Ghanaian-American comedian and actor, Michael Blackson, has taken to social media to express gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama following the government’s announcement to settle Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) coupons worth GH¢6.081 billion.
In a tweet on February 17, 2025, Michael Blackson expressed joy and declared that he is now a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“Look at God, this is a very great start for all bondholders. As of today, I’m officially a member of the NDC party. Mahama, you just put a smile on the faces of the kids at my free school,” he posted.
His comments come after a recent interview in which the comedian blamed the NPP government led by Akufo-Addo for his $1.2 million Eurobond investment being tied up as part of a debt restructuring program.
Michael Blackson’s investment, which was meant to fund his free school in Agona Nsaba, Central Region, was trapped in the DDEP under the previous administration.
He had since accused the NPP government of misusing his funds to service foreign debts, including those owed to China.
In the recent interview, he apologized for initially blaming Ghana, clarifying that the fault lay with the NPP.
Meanwhile, the government’s recent payment includes a GH¢3.46 billion Payment-In-Kind (PIK) portion deposited into bondholders’ securities accounts and a GH¢9.7 billion allocation to the Debt Service Recovery Cedi Account (Sinking Fund) as a buffer for future obligations.
President Mahama emphasized his administration’s commitment to fiscal prudence, transparency, and accountability, aiming to stabilize the economy and create jobs for Ghana’s youth.
The move has been hailed as a significant step toward restoring investor confidence in Ghana’s economy.

President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, officially declared his assets in accordance with Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
Article 286 mandates public office holders, including the president and his appointees, to complete and submit Assets Declaration Forms to the Auditor-General’s office.
Presenting his Assets Declaration Forms to the Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, on Tuesday, President Mahama pointed out that the declaration is essential to Ghana’s fight against corruption.
He indicated that in the past, he used to declare his assets in private but has chosen to do so publicly as an example to his appointees and other persons required to declare their assets.
“In times past, I would privately present these forms to the Auditor-General in fulfilment of my statutory obligation. I have taken the step of presenting these forms publicly as a way of injecting some openness and transparency into the process of asset declaration.
“I have maintained that while it is all well and good to punish corruption, a more effective way of addressing the canker is preventing it from occurring in the first place,” he said.
He added, “I honestly believe that if properly created and enforced, asset declaration can become a sustainable tool for tackling corruption.”
The president went on to give his appointees up to March 31, 2025, to declare their assets.
He said that appointees who fail to declare their assets before the stated deadline will face severe sanctions including the possibility of being removed from office.
Media personality Nana Yaa Brefo has rendered an apology to former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, for lambasting him over the Number 12 exposé.
She stated that her fierce criticisms of Nyantakyi when the documentary, which purported to depict the former GFA boss involved in corrupt activities, was released were hasty and that she should have waited for the legal proceedings to conclude.
The Onua FM journalist asserted that she and other people who subjected Nyantakyi to harsh public backlash have been disgraced after the court’s ruling.
Speaking on Onua FM, Yaa Brefo conceded that she regrets criticizing Nyantakyi and asked for forgiveness.
“Kwesi Nyantakyi is a fantastic person. I regret speaking against him during the issues. Honestly, I have realized that I spoke nonsense when his issue with Anas came up. I was carried away then, so I would like him to forgive me.
“All those who lined up to watch the exposé video have been embarrassed now. Despite all the criticisms levelled against Nyantakyi, the person who was supposed to testify in court failed to do so and ran away,” she said in Twi.
Nyantakyi was discharged following the failure of Anas Aremeyaw Anas to testify in court.
According to reports, the Accra High Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Marie-Louise Simmons, on Thursday, February 13, 2025, discharged Kwesi Nyantakyi and Abdulai Alhassan, a former Northern Regional FA chairman.

Fighting between Sudan’s army and rebel RSF forces continues to spread 21 months into the war
Sudanese rebels have killed hundreds of people in a three-day assault in the southern White Nile state, according to a rights watchdog.
The attacks on villages near the town of al-Gitaina by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed more than 200 people, Emergency Lawyers, a group tracking rights violations in the 21-month war between the Sudanese army and the RSF, said on Tuesday.
“Field executions, abductions, forced disappearances and lootings,” were carried out, the group said. Some victims drowned after being shot at while trying to flee across the Nile River, in what Emergency Lawyers branded a “massacre”.
Sudan’s army-aligned Ministry of Foreign Affairs said later the number of victims had “so far reached 433 people, including infants”.
The Paris-based Sudan Tribune reported that RSF forces killed or injured dozens on Monday alone.
A resident quoted by the media described how RSF fighters on motorbikes fanned out, opening fire on people in the streets and inside their homes.
The reported attacks come as Sudan’s government gained ground against the RSF in and around the capital, Khartoum, about 100km (62 miles) north of al-Gitaina.
On Monday, the army claimed to have regained control of the capital’s Abu Hamama neighbourhood and dismantled an RSF checkpoint connecting it with the downtown.
Turkiye’s Anadolu news agency reported that Sudan’s army now controls most areas in southern-central Khartoum.
Plans for rival governments
The RSF and aligned factions have been preparing to sign a charter this week in Nairobi to declare a parallel government in areas under RSF control.
However, the declaration of a “Government of Peace and Unity” was postponed.
Politician Fadlallah Burma Nasir, head of the National Umma Party which is split over whether to participate, said the signing of the charter had been put back to later in the week to allow for a fuller representation from rebel leader Abdelaziz al-Hilu’s SPLM-N.
The SPLM-N is a large military faction that controls wide swaths of the famine-stricken South Kordofan and Blue Nile states and had not previously taken a firm position in the conflict between the army and the RSF.
The RSF maintains control over some parts of the capital, sections of Kordofan and much of the famine-threatened Darfur region.
Sudan has been engulfed in civil strife since April 2023, with forces of army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan battling fighters aligned with his former deputy, RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, widely known as Hemedti.
Both sides have been accused of abuses and war crimes.
The war has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced more than 12 million and created what the International Rescue Committee has called the “biggest humanitarian crisis ever recorded”.
Last week, Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced plans for a transitional government to pave the way for elections and end the war, as it also made strategic advances against RSF forces in the states of Sennar, Gezira and the key city of Umm Ruwaba in North Kordofan.
On Tuesday, the UN Human Rights Office warned in a report that “entrenched impunity” is prompting gross human rights violations and abuse in the country as fighting spreads to new areas.
The office has warned that the civilian death toll continues to rise as hostilities between the rival parties sharply escalate, and in its new report it called for a broader international effort towards accountability and to stem the flow of arms.
“The continued and deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian objects, as well as summary executions, sexual violence and other violations and abuses, underscore the utter failure by both parties to respect the rules and principles of international humanitarian and human rights law,” said UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk.
“Some of these acts may amount to war crimes. They must be investigated promptly and independently, with a view to bringing those responsible to justice,” he added.
Former Directors-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi and Mustapha Ussif, have responded to allegations made by the Fourth Estate in a recent media publication.
The publication accused the former NSA officers of various irregularities related to enrolment, verification, and payment processes within the Authority.
In a press release sighted by Citi News on Tuesday, February 18, the former officers expressed their concerns about the publication, describing it as “laden with a misapprehension of the enrolment, verification, and payment processes of the National Service Authority, as well as selective omission of information, calculated to achieve contrived conclusions of imputing wrongdoing to former officers.”
The publication claimed a significant discrepancy between the figures submitted to Parliament for budgetary purposes and those available to the public. The former officers clarified that the Fourth Estate relied solely on figures from the general posting done in September, omitting two cohorts of nursing trainees and one cohort of teacher trainees.
The NSA, in partnership with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Teachers Council, runs additional enrolment cycles for nurses and teachers, respectively. The former DGs argued that the shortfalls in figures were accounted for by these additional cycles.
The Fourth Estate also alleged that the NSA payroll was padded with “ghosts” due to discrepancies between the budgeted personnel and verified postings.
The former officers explained that the payroll is only activated after stringent verification processes, and only personnel who pass verification are paid through the GhiPPS System, a Bank of Ghana subsidiary.
The publication also claimed the NSA system was full of overaged individuals, foreign pictures, and wrong IDs. The former DGs in their statement countered this by explaining that initial data often contains errors, which are addressed during regional verification processes. Personnel with inconsistent information are categorized as banned or pending verification and do not draw from the payroll.
The former officers expressed shock that the Fourth Estate relied on entry data without verifying the actual number of personnel paid per year through GhiPPS. They argued that this reliance betrayed a malicious intent to publish a sensational story rather than diligently establish facts.
Throughout their tenure, Assibey and Ussif stated that they were committed to implementing robust enrolment and verification mechanisms to reduce fraudulent attempts. They urged journalists to be thorough in their work to avoid publishing misleading stories that malign individuals without basis.
The former officers welcomed President Mahama’s directive for an investigation, expressing confidence that the investigation would reveal the true state of affairs and counter the allegations made by the Fourth Estate.

Congratulations on your appointment as Ghana’s Minister of Food and Agriculture. I write to you as someone who believes deeply in the boundless potential of Ghana’s agriculture to shape our nation’s destiny. For decades, agriculture has been hailed as the backbone of Ghana’s economy.
Yet, we still import basic food items, our farmers remain impoverished, and post-harvest losses continue to cripple the industry. The paradox is glaring: How can a country so richly blessed with fertile lands, favourable climatic conditions, and industrious people still struggle to feed itself and generate sustainable wealth through agriculture?
We stand at a crossroads where food security, economic prosperity, and national development can either be accelerated through a bold agricultural revolution or stifled by continued neglect and half-hearted interventions.
The Missed Opportunities
While we commend past and present initiatives such as “Planting for Food and Jobs,” we must also admit that without significant structural changes, these programs will be short-lived interventions rather than catalysts for long-term transformation. Our failure to fully commercialize and industrialize agriculture is a self-inflicted wound.
The absence of modern irrigation infrastructure leaves our farmers at the mercy of the rains, turning agriculture into a seasonal gamble rather than a reliable enterprise. The lack of mechanization means that many farmers are stuck with rudimentary tools that limit productivity. And the weak link between agriculture and industrialization ensures that raw materials are exported cheaply while we import processed versions at exorbitant prices.
The Path Forward: A New Agricultural Vision
Honourable Minister, Ghana’s destiny must be defined by a reimagined agricultural sector, one that is efficient, technology-driven, and globally competitive. To achieve this, I urge you to consider the following imperatives:
1. Irrigation as a Priority, Not an Afterthought:
The success stories of Israel and Egypt in desert agriculture should inspire us to take bold steps in building sustainable irrigation systems. We must invest in large-scale irrigation projects to break the dependence on rainfall.
2. Agro-Industrialization and Value Addition Establishing Agro-processing
Instead of exporting raw cocoa, why not create policies that incentivize large-scale local processing? Why should we import tomato paste when Ghanaian farmers produce an abundance of tomatoes?
3. Access to Credit and Market Structures
Many farmers cannot expand due to financial constraints. We need a dedicated fund for the agricultural development bank to offer fair lending rates that support farmers and agribusinesses. Moreover, the government must facilitate guaranteed market structures so that farmers are not left at the mercy of exploitative middlemen.
4. Technology and Research Integration
Agricultural success today is built on innovation. We must strengthen agricultural research institutions and link their findings directly to farmers. Precision farming, drought-resistant crops, and smart mechanization should not be foreign concepts in Ghanaian agriculture.
5. Attracting the Youth into Agriculture
The perception that agriculture is for the old and uneducated must be shattered. By modernizing the sector, we can make farming an attractive and profitable career path for young Ghanaians. Digital platforms that connect farmers to markets, drone technology for monitoring farms, and AI-driven solutions must be actively encouraged.
6. State-Led Agricultural Enterprises
Instead of solely encouraging individuals to engage in agriculture, the state must take the lead by establishing state farms in every region, producing staple food crops under government management and supervision. Your statement during your vetting about reviving school farms is commendable, and I urge you to take it further by encouraging other state agencies to operate their own farms.
• The Ghana Armed Forces can establish farms to supply food for military personnel and barracks, reducing dependency on external suppliers.
• The Ghana Prisons Service can develop prison farms to provide food for inmates and generate revenue by selling surplus produce.
• The Ghana Police Service can run farms to support feeding programs for officers in training academies and barracks.
• The Ghana Education Service (GES) can mandate every senior high school and tertiary institution to operate a farm, supplying food for their students while providing practical agricultural training.
• The Ghana Health Service (GHS) can cultivate medicinal plants and nutritional crops to improve the diet of patients and hospital staff.
• The National Service Scheme (NSS) can scale up its agricultural initiatives, allowing service personnel to gain hands-on farming experience while contributing to national food production.
• Local Government (MMDAs) can create community farms that enhance food security and generate employment at the district level.
• The Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Immigration Service can also establish farms to provide food for their personnel stationed across the country.
• COCOBOD and other agricultural agencies can set up model farms to train farmers in best practices while ensuring a steady supply of quality raw materials for local processing.
These state-led farms will not only boost food production but also create employment, reduce government food expenditure, and ensure Ghana’s food security.
A Call to Action
Honourable Minister, Ghana’s fate is intertwined with agriculture. If we get it right, we will not only achieve food security but also build a robust economy that generates jobs, reduces poverty, and positions Ghana as a leader in agribusiness within Africa and beyond. If we get it wrong, we will continue down the path of dependency, importing what we should be exporting and perpetuating economic struggles for millions of Ghanaians.
The time to act is now. Let us be bold, visionary, and uncompromising in our pursuit of an agricultural revolution that truly defines Ghana’s destiny.
I wish you well, Honourable Minister. I pray you succeed.

Adamus Resources Limited (ARL), based in the Western Region, has called on the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah to, as a matter of urgency, intervene and help halt all illegal mining activities in the area, particularly, on its concession.
ARL is a gold mining company at Ellembelle in the Nzema enclave of the Western Region.
Adamus Resources has expressed concern over illegal mining activities on its concessions at the company’s Nzema Gold Project.
The mining company asserted that the illegal mining activities, also called ‘galamsey,’ is being spearheaded by the Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Annor-Kwofie and his alleged counterparts.
The company has, therefore, called for a halt of the illegal activities in order to help save the water bodies in the area, particularly the Ankobra River.
In a petition dated Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the company wondered why the NDC Constituency Chairman should embroil himself in galamsey activities just a month after his party took over power.
The company has also written letters signed by Adamus Resources Nzema Gold Operations General Manager, Kwadwo Opoku Ansah, to the Regional Police Commander and copied to all regional and national stakeholders on the issue.
The company accused Annor-Kwofie of collaborating with his alleged Chinese counterparts in the illegal activities, adding that they are already on the verge of destroying the Ankobra River’s banks as well as sections of the Gwira enclave’s virgin forest.
Adamus Resources further stated that the ongoing galamsey actions at Akango North in the Nzema area, are negatively impacting its operations despite several attempts to cease it.
“The company is not able to stop the activities due to the sophisticated weapons the men guarding Mr. Annor-Kwofie’s employees are wielding.
“The constituency chairman is known to have launched other operations in localities such as Amgbasie, Duale, Awulezu, and Kukwaville, all of which are located in the Gwira and Ajomoro enclave of Nzema East Municipality of the region,” the statement noted.
It said several stakeholders have expressed deep concern about Annor-Kwofie’s alleged notorious behaviour, which started immediately after the NDC won the 2024 general elections.
According to some traditional, opinion leaders and party members, the NDC Chairman’s actions contradict President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise to protect water bodies and forest reserves.
The management of Adamus Resources claim that Annor-Kwofie’s actions are damaging to their operations, necessitating immediate government intervention.
They have also urged the party’s leadership to implement measures to punish Mr. Annor-Kwofie, to dissuade others from engaging in similar conduct.
Meanwhile, the Health, Safety, and Environment Manager of Adamus Resources, Philip Thompson, has confirmed that police in the Nzema area on Friday embarked on an operation to help halt the illegal mining activities. However, the situation has not changed.
Efforts by DAILY GUIDE to get Mr. Annor-Kwofie’s side of the story were not successful, as he failed to pick calls from the paper and did not respond to WhatsApp message sent to him.
The government’s major tasks ahead in resetting the country are amending the constitution, holding past and present government officials accountable and stabilising the economy, President John Dramani Mahama has stated.
During a meeting with the Ghanaian community in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, last Sunday evening, President Mahama painted a candid picture of Ghana’s economic struggles, revealing that the country had been grappling with a severe economic crisis marked by unstable macroeconomic indicators.
“We have been going through a severe economic crisis with very unstable macroeconomic indicators,” he said.
The economic woes have been further complicated by Ghana’s debt crisis. President Mahama said that under the previous administration, the country was forced to admit to the international community that it was unable to pay its debt.
“For the first time in recent memory, we had to tell the rest of the world that we can’t pay our debt,” he said.
Solution
To mitigate the risk, President Mahama said the government would re-establish the Sinking Fund to be used for retiring long-term loans to prevent future defaults.
However, the President added that the government’s fiscal space remained severely constrained amid high expectations from citizens and limited resources to meet them.
He said a significant challenge facing the administration was the legacy of unfinished projects initiated by the previous government, including over 80 hospitals that required more than $1 billion to complete.
Touching on accountability, President Mahama said while the government would go after corrupt officials in the previous government, appointees in his government would also be held accountable according to their stewardship.
“Those of us in leadership must lead by example, be prepared to be held accountable for taking the public trust,” President Mahama said.
The President said while people were excited about receiving appointments, they all must be reminded that “The green letter comes with a lot of responsibilities.”
He emphasised the need to amend Ghana’s 1992 Constitution to address current challenges, acknowledging its remarkable service to the nation while stressing its evolution as a living document.
International roles
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, highlighted Ghana’s impressive performance in the recent African Union (AU) elections, where the country secured three positions.
Mr Ablakwa attributed the success to the trust and confidence that Africans had in Ghanaians, saying, “Everyone on the continent believes that Ghanaians can be trusted; they will deliver.”
He also stressed the need for Ghana to increase its representation in international organisations.
Mr Ablakwa said Ghana had only filled 43 per cent of its allocation at the AU and called for more resources to be committed to support Ghanaians in leadership positions.
To address that, the Foreign Affairs Minister announced that President Mahama would provide budgetary support to hire professionals to assist Ghanaians in leadership positions at the AU.
He said the government would also make resources available to Ghanaians seeking leadership positions in international organisations to campaign and draw the necessary support for successful bidding.
Solidarity
The President of the Ghana Community in Ethiopia, Joseph Ofosu-Appiah Duah, who spoke on behalf of the community, congratulated President Mahama on his re-election.
He expressed the community’s confidence in his leadership, vision and dedication to national development, expressing the belief that Ghana would continue to be a beacon of democracy, stability and progress on the African continent under his stewardship.
The community acknowledged President Mahama’s commitment to fighting corruption and promoting transparency in governance, as well as his efforts to strengthen institutions and uphold the rule of law.
They encouraged him to deepen the reforms to ensure accountability and good governance for generations to come.
They also appreciated President Mahama’s dedication to empowering the youth of Ghana.
However, they appealed to the President to champion the placement and advancement of Ghanaians in international organisations, particularly the African Union Commission (AUC) and the United Nations (UN).
Accra, Feb. 18, GNA – Mr Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, the Minister of the Interior, has expressed concern over the inadequate budget allocation for feeding prisoners and assured the Ghana Prisons Service of measures to find a lasting solution to the issue.
He said he would discuss with the Minister of Finance how best to tackle the challenge to ensure a holistic rehabilitation of inmates.
Mr Muntaka said this when he paid a working visit to the Ghana Prisons Service Headquarters in Accra on Monday.
The visit, which was aimed at interacting with the management and staff, afforded the Minister the opportunity to gain firsthand information on the Service’s operations.
The Minister emphasised the importance of rehabilitation and reintegration programmes for prisoners, highlighting the government’s initiatives to provide skills training and employment opportunities to prisoners, which would enable them to reintegrate into society upon their release.
He acknowledged the crucial role the Ghana Prisons Service played in maintaining public safety and security and commended it for the efforts in providing safe custody, welfare, and rehabilitation of prisoners.
Mr Muntaka stressed the government’s efforts to prioritise the decongestion of the prisons through the implementation of non-custodial sentencing options.
He discussed the need for modernisation of prison infrastructure, including the development of digital record-keeping systems, biometric identification, and security surveillance.
Mr Isaac Kofi Egyir, the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, commended the Minister for the visit and assured him of the Service’s commitment to delivering effective services to the nation.
The John Dramani Mahama government has announced the reintroduction of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in basic and senior high schools in the country.
Speaking in a viral video clip from a recent event, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, announced the reintroduction of the PTA, which was limited to Parent Associations (PAs) by the previous Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.
He indicated that the move would ensure that parents and teachers are involved in the running of the country’s education system.
“I am particularly happy to announce that PTAs will be introduced back into the management of education in Ghana under the presidency of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for parents and teachers to work together to improve learning outcomes in our educational institutions.
“And for PTAs to support our educational institutions to produce quality human capital for our country,” he said.
The Ghana Education Service (GES), under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government, introduced new guidelines that rebranded Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in pre-tertiary schools as Parent Associations (PAs).
The move was to address issues where certain PTA activities, such as imposing levies, hindered the government’s efforts to provide universal access to education, particularly under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.

The borrowing cap is a key component of Ghana’s broader debt restructuring strategy
Ghana has been restricted from borrowing more than $250 million in external loans, including commercial loans, in 2025 under a borrowing cap established as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with its Official Creditor Committee (OCC).
This borrowing limit has been set as a structural benchmark under Ghana’s International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, allowing the Fund to monitor and evaluate the country’s compliance annually.
The MoU, signed by all participating creditor nations, facilitates bilateral agreements to enforce the $250 million disbursement ceiling.
According to a report by myjoyonline.com, the borrowing cap is a key component of Ghana’s broader debt restructuring strategy, which began in 2022 when the country suspended external debt servicing.
It aligns with the ongoing Eurobond restructuring, where the government is exchanging $13.1 billion in outstanding Eurobonds for new notes.
With the borrowing limit in place, the Ministry of Finance is collaborating with bilateral creditors to prioritize funding for critical ongoing projects.
Government agencies have been directed to exclude externally funded capital expenditure (CAPEX) from their 2025 budgets until the Ministry finalizes its list of priority projects.
The borrowing restriction presents a significant challenge for the new National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, which campaigned on ambitious infrastructure promises while grappling with substantial restructured debt obligations.
Speaking to Bloomberg at the Munich Security Conference in February 2025, President John Mahama indicated that his administration does not intend to extend the IMF program beyond its scheduled conclusion in May 2026.
Meanwhile, Ghana is actively engaging with commercial creditors, including Eurobond holders, to finalize restructuring agreements in line with the comparability of treatment principle.

With its transition to an independent event, organizers say the awards will now expand their scope to recognize excellence across various fields, including business, leadership, innovation, science, and humanitarian efforts.
“This move aligns with our mission to celebrate the spirit of achievement and innovation that defines Ghana and strengthens our connection to the broader Pan-African and global community,” a statement from organisers noted.
Details on categories and selection criteria are expected to be announced in due course, with organizers promising an event that will spotlight the best of Ghana and its influence on the global stage.
Gary Nimako is the Legal Affairs Director of the New Patriotic Party
The Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gary Nimako, has expressed a differing perspective on the party’s decision to hold a press conference in response to the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) declaration of Ken Ofori-Atta as a wanted fugitive.
The legal practitioner believes that the press conference was premature, questioning the factors that may have influenced the party’s decision to address the matter so hastily.
Nimako stated that had he been consulted for legal advice, which he was not, he would have provided a different opinion and advised against addressing the press.
“Looking at the dates on the letters, I hold the view that the timing was too short to have come to that conclusion. Nana B is also a lawyer, so maybe he proceeded based on his understanding of the matters available to him.
“I was not consulted on the press conference, and if I had been, I would have given a different opinion. Some of these matters require engagement and consultation before reacting,” he said during a phone-in interview on Neat FM on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
Gary Nimako further emphasised that the party should have consulted widely, sought legal advice, and allowed for ongoing investigations before making the rushed decision to hold a press conference.
He added that the case involving the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, requires thorough deliberation and engagement among all parties involved rather than being fueled by drama and unnecessary rhetoric.
“I would have advised that the press conference should have been delayed pending further investigation and consultation. In certain cases, you don’t just react immediately. You must consult, ask questions from all parties involved, and come to a conclusion before proceeding.
“… This matter should not be surrounded by drama or excessive discussion but rather handled with calmness, engagement, and mutual understanding,” he continued.
The legal luminary further advised the legal representatives of the former minister to engage with the OSP and reach an agreement on a suitable date for their client to honor the invitation.
“Lawyers representing Ken Ofori-Atta should write to the OSP, proposing a suitable date for him to appear based on his availability. Given that he is seeking medical care, his doctors will determine when he is fit enough to honor the invitation,” he added.
NPP’s Press Conference
During its press conference, the NPP rejected the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) declaration that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is a fugitive, describing it as “unreasonable.”
At the press briefing held at the party’s headquarters on February 13, 2025, the party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, vehemently condemned the OSP’s decision.
He stated, “Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta can never be a fugitive. He is not a fugitive, and he will never be a fugitive. The OSP got it wrong.”
play videoProf. Chris Gordon, Founding Director, IESS
The Founding Director of the Institute for Environmental and Sanitation Studies at the University of Ghana, Prof. Chris Gordon, has expressed concern over the devastating impact of the ongoing heat wave on the productivity and mental health of Ghanaians.
According to him, research has shown that the current heat wave is slowing down the pace of work, inducing fatigue, and preventing people from achieving their work targets due to sleep deprivation.
Prof. Gordon made these remarks while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of his team’s presentation to the Minister of State in charge of Climate Change and Sustainability on February 17, 2025, as the minister resumed office.
The University of Ghana lecturer noted that his centre is conducting various studies to assess the heat situation and provide necessary interventions for affected individuals.
He explained that the research focuses on evaluating heat conditions in low-income, semi-informal settlements.
“The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) tells us that the number of hot nights has increased, and these hot nights affect people’s ability to sleep and rest. Climate change also increases mosquito activity; when it’s warmer, they bite more,” he said.
“A lot of factors are working together to make people’s lives very uncomfortable when the weather is warm. We are experiencing temperatures of 35°C and above, and in these external settlements with metal walls and roofs, you may have eight or nine people sharing a room,” he added.
However, he was quick to point out that some interventions have already begun to alleviate the situation for affected individuals.
“We have already started some of the interventions. We have a certain type of reflective paint that prevents heat from entering houses. Moving forward, we will also explore solutions like improved ventilation systems,” he stated.
Athletic Bilbao striker Iñaki Williams has strongly condemned Espanyol fans for racially abusing his teammate, Maroan Sannadi, during their match on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
The Moroccan international was subjected to racist slurs from sections of the crowd at the RCDE Stadium. The incident occurred in the first half, prompting Williams to immediately alert the referee.
As a result, the anti-racism protocol was activated, which included a warning announcement over the stadium’s speakers. Had the abuse continued, the game could have been temporarily suspended, with players leaving the field.
Williams, who was nearby, confirmed that he personally heard the insults directed at Sannadi.
Speaking to Cadena SER after the game, Williams passionately called for unity in the fight against racism, emphasizing that this is a widespread issue affecting the entire sport, not just one club.
“Football is meant to be enjoyed, and things like this should never happen. Maroan made a simple play, and they insulted him, calling him a ‘f**** Moor.’ This isn’t the first time it has happened here, it happened to me before. But that shouldn’t define Espanyol’s fan base,” he said.
However, he urged authorities to take swift action against the perpetrators.
“Football needs to be protected. Espanyol needs its true fans, not a handful of people ruining the game. It’s a shame. The referee handled it well, but I don’t understand why Espanyol fans whistled at me afterward. I hope action is taken, awareness is raised, and those responsible are punished,” he added.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving Espanyol just one point above the relegation zone while also hindering Bilbao’s chase for Atletico Madrid, who had dropped points a day earlier.

Get Ready for Change: Automatic Fuel Dispensers Hitting Ghana’s Petroleum Sector
News Hub Creator2h
The Ghanaian government is set to revolutionize its petroleum sector with the deployment of automatic fuel dispensers nationwide. This announcement was made by Godwin Kudzo Tamakloe, CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), signaling a significant step towards enhancing transparency and curbing fuel theft.
The initiative aims to address long-standing concerns surrounding fuel dispensing accuracy and potential malpractices. Manual dispensing, the current method, leaves room for human error and manipulation, leading to revenue losses for the government and unfair practices for consumers. Automatic dispensers, however, utilize precise metering systems, eliminating the possibility of shortchanging customers or siphoning off fuel.
This move is expected to bring several benefits. Firstly, it will significantly reduce fuel theft, a major problem contributing to revenue losses for the country. Secondly, it will ensure fair pricing for consumers, guaranteeing they receive the exact amount of fuel they pay for. Thirdly, it will enhance the overall efficiency and transparency of the petroleum sector, promoting greater accountability and trust.
The NPA CEO did not provide a specific timeline for the full-scale deployment of these automatic dispensers, but emphasized the government’s commitment to this crucial project. Further details regarding the procurement process, the phased rollout plan, and the potential impact on existing fuel stations are expected to be released in the coming weeks. This bold step is hailed as a crucial component of the government’s broader strategy to modernize the petroleum industry and ensure its sustainable development for the benefit of all Ghanaians. The transition to automatic dispensing represents a significant investment in the nation’s future and a clear commitment to good governance and economic stability.
Josephine Oppong-Yeboah, a Ghanaian media figure and gender advocate, has urged the government to prioritise appointing more women to political positions.
She emphasised that empowering women in leadership roles is essential for Ghana’s growth and development.
Ms. Oppong-Yeboah highlighted the significance of equal representation in decision-making, pointing out that women offer distinct perspectives and solutions.
While applauding the government for its appointment of women in key leadership positions so far in a media interview, she urged the government to do more, considering the untapped potential of women in Ghana.
“Women are a vital part of our society’s fabric. To advance our nation, we must elevate more women to leadership positions,” she said.
Ms. Oppong-Yeboah also emphasised that women in political offices must deliver concrete results and prove themselves capable of leading effectively.
She encouraged women in political positions to go beyond ceremonial roles and improve the lives of Ghanaians.
Her advocacy is part of a broader push for gender equality, as she believes that empowering women is essential for societal and economic growth.

Ndan Ya Naa Abukari II with Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I
The King of Dagbon, Ndan Ya Naa Abukari II, has embarked on a historic visit to the Jakpa Palace in the Savannah Region.
The visit forms part of efforts to strengthen the bond between the two kingdoms and consolidate peaceful coexistence.
All paramount chiefs and elders with hundreds of people from Dagbon accompanied the King of Dagbon to the Jakpa Palace for the historic visit.
Last year, the King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom and President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, visited the Ya Naa at the Gbewa Palace.
Even though the Dagbon and Gonja kingdoms have existed for several years, there has not been such a historic visit by both kings before.
The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom and President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, in his welcome address at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo, said the visit by the King of Dagon is not merely a ceremonial exchange but symbolises the reaffirmation of both kingdoms commitment to working collaboratively for the betterment of their people.
“This historic visit will rekindle the opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest, economic development, security, education, and the advancement of our youth. We will explore avenues to align our resources and strengths in a way that will uplift the development of both kingdoms. By investing in our people and unearthing their potentials, we can create a legacy that will be felt by the present and future generations,” he stated.
The Yagbonwura noted that the chiefs serve as peace builders, reconcilers, and dispute resolvers within their communities, stressing that their role in fostering peace is not just essential; it is a prerequisite for meaningful development.
“Therefore, our secondary role as agents of development hinges on our ability to promote lasting peace. Peace represents well-being, healthy living, sustainable livelihoods, security, and justice. Peacebuilding involves creating a conducive environment for holistic development, enabling individuals within our chiefdoms, especially those in farming communities, to reach their full potentials,” he pointed out.
He thanked the King of Dagbon for his royal visit to the Jakpa Palace in Damongo.
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my brother, Ndan Ya Naa, for honouring us with this royal visit. May this occasion strengthen our resolve as leaders and bring blessings to both the Dagbon and Gonja Kingdoms. The ancestors of Dagbon and Gonja Kingdom will lead you to discharge your traditional governance duties creditably,” he stated.
The King of Dagbon, Ndan Ya Naa Abukari II, indicated that with social development, both kingdoms can work together to address social challenges, such as poverty, illiteracy, “sakawa”, drug abuse, child prostitution, early marriage and unemployment, adding that when these issues are tackled, they can create a brighter future for their people.
Ya Naa stated that economic empowerment is critical for the prosperity of the teeming youth, and that both kingdoms can explore opportunities between them and government, for economic cooperation, trade, investment and especially agriculture, ultimately strengthening the economic foundations of their kingdoms.
“As we yearn for accelerated development, we should also keep an eye on the conservation of our environment through sustainable agricultural practices and protection of our economic trees from bush burning and charcoal overlords. Environmental Sustainability will ensure that we continue to develop without irreparably destroying our arable lands, rivers and forests,” he added.

The Deputy Director of Operations at the presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama is carefully navigating the challenge of balancing technical expertise with loyalty while making key appointments.
In an interview on the JoyNews in Accra on Friday, he explained that the President’s decisions were based on a thoughtful evaluation of both competency and loyalty.
He stressed that those appointed must not only be qualified for the roles but also align with the broader goals of the administration.
The President has been criticised for some of his appointments by some grassroots supporters who have, in some cases, demonstrated their opposition through protests.
Mr Gbannde emphasised that such reactions to appointments were neither new nor surprising.
“It’s not news, nor a novelty. This happens regularly in government. Whenever these situations arise, we engage with the grassroots, explain the rationale behind these decisions, and ensure that people understand the President’s perspective,” he elaborated.
Mr Gbande further noted that this approach marks a shift from previous administrations, where public engagement was often limited.
“We are now consistently engaging with the grassroots, helping them understand our direction and why certain decisions are being made,” he indicated
Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has raised concerns about the legality of a recent raid conducted at the private residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Speaking in an interview on UTV, monitored by GhanaWeb on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Pratt clarified that while he was not asserting Ofori-Atta’s innocence regarding ongoing corruption allegations, the manner in which the operation was carried out was questionable.
He specifically criticized the role of Richard Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, questioning his authority to lead such an operation.
“I am not in any way suggesting that Ken Ofori-Atta is innocent of the charges. He could very well be guilty of the alleged corruption charges, and investigations by the OSP will determine that. However, that does not give Richard Jakpa the right to lead a raid on his private residence, regardless of his role at National Security. It shouldn’t have happened, and that is all I am saying,” he stated.
Pratt further demanded clarification on the legal framework under which Jakpa operated.
“On what legal basis did he lead the raid at Ken Ofori-Atta’s residence? Which laws in the country back his actions? I simply do not understand his actions,” he added.
The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has confirmed Jakpa’s involvement in the operation, revealing that the raid was conducted by a team comprising military and police personnel.
Addressing the issue in Parliament on Thursday, February 13, 2025, Ayariga stated, “Mr. Speaker, it is true that the private residence of the former Finance Minister was entered by operatives of the military and the police, led by someone who we believe works at the National Security Coordinator’s office. His name is Richard Jakpa.”
Ayariga expressed regret over the incident and extended an apology to Ken Ofori-Atta, describing the situation as unfortunate.
“We have investigated the matter, and we want to assure our fellow countrymen and our colleagues in this House that we have received assurances from the Office of the National Security Coordinator that it was never intended for such an incident to occur. This occurrence is most regrettable and unfortunate. I personally extend my apologies to the former Finance Minister, and I believe that this should suffice,” he said.
CCTV footage allegedly showing individuals raiding Ofori-Atta’s Cantonments residence surfaced on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Reports indicate that the group consisted of about 12 individuals, including five in military uniforms, one in police uniform, and others in plain clothes.
The former minister was reportedly out of the country receiving medical care at the time.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has declared Ken Ofori-Atta wanted in connection with allegations of causing financial loss to the state.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng stated that Ofori-Atta was being investigated for his role in multiple transactions, including the controversial National Cathedral project and the Ghana Revenue Authority’s contract with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).
Kissi Agyebeng dismissed suggestions that the OSP was behind the raid, insisting that it was an attempt to discredit the office and obstruct its work.
“Our intelligence indicates that the purported raid on Ofori-Atta’s residence was staged, or at best, an impostor action intended to discredit the OSP and derail the investigation. The OSP will not be deterred by such occurrences, and the investigations will continue as prescribed by law,” he stated.

Lydia Contraceptives, Ghana’s leading brand in female contraception, on Valentine’s Day celebrated motherhood and love with 25 new mothers in Accra and Kumasi.
The campaign, titled ‘My First Love; Lydia and Mom,’ was aimed at celebrating mothers who gave birth on February 14 and their babies.
The surprise initiative took place at the Maamobi General Hospital, Salvation Army Hospital, Nima Polyclinic in Accra, and Manhyia Government Hospital, and Mother and Child Hospital in Kumasi.
During the event, new mothers were presented with hampers containing baby essentials, chocolates, Valentine’s Day cards, and a service uptake voucher redeemable at any Lydia Partnered Clinic (LPC).
The hampers were handed over by Manager of DKT International Market AWA, Jonathan Mensah, distributors of Lydia Contraceptives, alongside hospital authorities who supported the surprise event in the maternity wards.
Speaking with the media, Mr. Mensah addressed a common misconception about the role of family planning in the country’s healthcare system.
“There’s a common misconception that contraceptive brands are against childbirth, but that’s totally false,” he explained. “Lydia Contraceptives are here to support individuals and families by helping them prevent unintended pregnancies, space births, and plan their futures.
“We want to help women make informed choices about their reproductive health and give birth when ready, not by mistake. This campaign is a way to celebrate the new lives born on Valentine’s Day and to offer these mothers the support they need to plan their next steps, especially through our safe and effective IUD options.”
The mothers, overwhelmed with gratitude, expressed their appreciation for Lydia’s thoughtful surprise on such a special day.
“It was such a pleasant surprise to be remembered on Valentine’s Day,” one mother said. “The gifts were so thoughtful, and it feels good to know that Lydia is here to support us not just in family planning but also in celebrating this new chapter in our lives.”
Lydia Contraceptives continues to stand at the forefront of reproductive health in Ghana, supporting families and women to take control of their futures with comprehensive family planning options and initiatives that prioritise education, access, and care. ‘My First Love; Lydia and Mom’ campaign is yet another example of how the brand is making a meaningful impact on the lives of Ghanaian women.

Ashaiman, Feb. 18, GNA – Mr. Ernest Henry Norgbey, the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, has commenced the construction of an emergency dialysis centre for the Ashaiman Municipal Hospital.
The project is currently at the foundation level, with block work done and iron rods in place awaiting concrete works.
Mr. Norgbey, who visited the site, indicated that last year, during the commissioning of the hospital to municipal hospital status, the management appealed for a dialysis centre, which he took up.
He added that the project would be done in phases, stating that he would personally equip the centre to serve the needs of the residents in his constituency.
“A dialysis centre in the community for the people will go a long way to help and alleviate pressure on patients to travel very far to get care,” he said.
Dr. Mavis Oppong-Addoh, the Medical Superintendent of Ashaiman Municipal Hospital, expressed joy at the commencement of the project, noting that they were happy when the MP gave them his word to help construct the emergency dialysis centre.
Dr. Oppong-Addoh noted that they made the request because they realised that when patients visit the hospital and need acute care for dialysis, the person must be moved to a higher centre, and sometimes the cost and movement involved prevent them from accessing care.
She explained that when care is not provided on time, it could lead to the patient developing chronic kidney disease, which all health practitioners are worried about.
She noted that without a dialysis centre, patients needing care must travel to the 37 Military Hospital or Korle Bu to get access, which might delay care.

The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yammin, has warned the Majority in Parliament against issuing any further apologies to Ghanaians regarding the happenings in the country.
According to Joseph Yammin, any further apologies from the Majority, mostly composed of NDC Members of Parliament, will result in a response from the party’s caucus.
He explained that what he termed as the “Father for All” act in Parliament would no longer be entertained.
“The next time we hear any apology from the Majority in Parliament, everyone will hear from us. The same goes for government officials. Any act of ‘Father for All’ will not be entertained. The country must and will be reset,” he said in a social media post on February 17, 2025.
His warning comes after the Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, issued an apology to the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, following a raid by armed men in military uniforms at his residence in Cantonments.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, February 13, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central provided further details on the incident, describing it as an unfortunate occurrence that should not have taken place.
“So, Speaker, it is true that the private residence of the former Minister of Finance was entered into by operatives of the military and the police, led by somebody who we believe works at the National Security Coordinator’s office. Mr. Speaker, his name is Richard Jakpa.
“I personally extend my apologies to the former Minister of Finance, and I believe that this should suffice,” he apologized.
According to Ayariga, the security agencies, along with the Ministries of Interior and Defence, have assured that such an illegal incident will not be allowed to happen again.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to its resetting agenda, emphasizing the goal of building a country with properly functioning institutions, law-abiding citizens, and officials dedicated to safeguarding the rights of all.
“Mr. Speaker, I have spoken to the Minister of Interior, who has spoken with his IGP and Minister of Defence, and all of them give their assurance to this House that a thing like that will not happen again.
“Let me indicate to my colleagues on the other side [Minority] that this side of the House remains committed to ensuring the country is reset, its institutions function properly, its officials act in accordance with the law, and the rights and liberties of every citizen are upheld and protected under the regime of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama,” he said.
Reports emerged on February 11, 2025, regarding a raid by armed men in military uniforms at the Cantonments residence of former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has disclosed that the widely reported raid by alleged military personnel at the residence of Ken Ofori-Atta was staged by dubious individuals.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, to declare Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng stated that the reported raid was orchestrated with the intent to create disaffection for the OSP and obstruct the ongoing investigations into him.
Kissi Agyebeng further emphasized that such attempts would not deter his office, assuring the public that the investigations would proceed as required by law.
“Our intelligence indicates that the purported raid on Ofori-Atta’s residence was staged, or, at best, an impostor action intended to discredit the OSP and derail the investigation. The OSP will not be deterred by such occurrences, and the investigations will continue as prescribed by law,” he said.
Ghanaian gospel minister, Empress Gifty, has shared some valuable lessons on how to spice up one’s sex life in a recent video.
Empress Gifty’s comments on sex and relationships have since generated interest and attention especially as her background as a gospel musician.
In the video making rounds online, the gospel musician emphasized the importance of communication and emotional connection in a romantic relationship, adding that sex alone doesn’t sustain a relationship.
“Sex alone doesn’t hold marriage because there are some women who know how to really make out with the men but are not happy because they don’t have their emotional needs met,” she stated.
She then went on to share some sexual tips one how one how can spice up their marriage.
Empress Gifty taught men how to handle the breast during foreplay and also maintain hygiene before and during sex.
She made these points while emphasising how properly stimulating a woman’s private part can lead to orgasm and eventually a happy marriage.
“Many marriages don’t work sometimes because the women don’t reach orgasm. She doesn’t get wet, she is always dry and whenever she gets a man who makes her feel like a woman, caress her and handle her well in bed, then she stays glued to the man.
“Men should hold the breast well; they need to fondle it properly and hold it the right way to enhance pleasure. They should make sure they are clean enough because they are going to be using the fingers often during the intimacy. Men are supposed to pamper women’s body because women are fragile and sweet” she said.
She also encouraged couples to prioritize open and honest communication, to listen to each other’s needs and desires.

CEO of the Angel Group of Companies, Dr. Kwaku Oteng, has shared an inspiring story of his entrepreneurial journey, revealing that his road to success began in a carpentry workshop.
In an interview on Angel FM, Dr. Oteng recounted how, in 1995, while working as a carpenter making household furniture, he launched Angel Cream.
“I started in the ’90s with Angel Cream. I was actually a carpenter when I started. I was into furniture making, room dividers, wardrobes, and all kinds of furniture. I was into that,” he recalled.
With limited resources, Dr. Oteng said he took to the streets of Kumasi, hawking the cream from market to market during his free time.
He described the challenges he faced, including being chased away from homes, but emphasized his persistence.
“There was no house in Kumasi that I didn’t enter. It got to a point that people started chasing me out of their houses. But I kept on selling, day and night,” he said.
Despite these challenges, Dr. Oteng credits Angel Cream as the stepping stone to his current success.
Starting the business with his wife and child, he said he gradually expanded, employing workers as the business flourished.
“That cream helped me a lot. It was a stepping stone to where I am now. I started it with my wife and child, and later, when the business was booming, I employed workers and started branching out until I got to where I am now,” he said.

Technical Advisor of the Black Stars, Winfried Anton Schafer, has expressed his sadness over Ghana’s inability to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
According to him, it is a great concern that the Black Stars, with their reputation, were unable to qualify for the continental showpiece.
The German coach noted that his previous stint with the Cameroon national team, which helped them win the AFCON title, makes him feel the loss the team have suffered.
“I am a keen follower of African football, thanks to my previous experience with Cameroon and our AFCON title win. I am sad about Ghana’s absence. That’s all I can say for now,” he said, as reported by AfricaSoccer.com.
This comes after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON sparking widespread criticism.
Following the disappointment, the GFA restructured the technical team, retaining Otto Addo and John Paintsil in their roles as head coach and assistant, respectively.
To strengthen the team, Winfried Schafer was appointed as Technical Advisor.
Their task will be to qualify the team for the 2026 World Cup, with the qualifiers set to resume in March 2025.

The allegations came as the RSF plans to announce plans to form a rival government in Sudan
More than 200 unarmed civilians have been killed in a cluster of villages in Sudan over three days by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that is involved in a brutal conflict with the military, a local rights group has said.
The Emergency Lawyers network said the attacks happened in al-Kadaris and al-Khelwat towards the north of White Nile state – areas where the military had no presence.
RSF fighters were guilty of “executions, kidnappings, enforced disappearances and property looting”, the network added.
The RSF, which was allied to the military before the civil war broke out in April 2023, has not commented on the allegations.
The two had come to power together in a coup – but fell out over an internationally backed plan to move towards civilian rule.
Some senior RSF leaders are currently in Kenya where they are expected to announce plans to form their own government in areas under their control.
Analysts warn the move could deepen divisions in Sudan.
Humanitarians have been sounding the alarm over Sudan, where the conflict has forced about 12 million people from their homes.
Tens of thousands of civilians have been killed, with both the RSF and army accused of committing atrocities.
At the heart of this conflict is a falling out between Sudan’s de facto ruler and army chief Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and his deputy-turned-rival Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedti” Dagalo, who leads the RSF.
The RSF was recently dealt a significant blow when the army regained control of parts of the capital, Khartoum – including its military headquarters.
Beyond the capital, the army has also won near total control of the crucial state of Gezira.
Following the setbacks, the RSF has rebounded with plans to launch a rival government in areas still under its control, which are mainly in Darfur and parts of Kordofan state.
The RSF is meeting allied groups in Nairobi to finalise the adoption of what it calls a “political charter for the Government of Peace and Unity”.
Gen Burhan has rejected the move, and has vowed to reclaim the whole of Khartoum.
He is currently based in Port Sudan, having been forced to leave Khartoum months after the civil war broke out when the RSF seized the military headquarters and the presidential palace.

Accra, Feb 18, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has in compliance with Act 550 of the Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act 1998, Tuesday, February 18, officially declared his assets.
The Act is in line with Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution.
Act 550 states that “A person who holds a public office shall submit to the Auditor-General a written declaration of all properties or assets owned by, or liabilities owed by him, whether directly or indirectly, before taking office at the end of every four years; and at the end of his term of office.”
President Mahama made the declaration when he submitted a declaration of all his assets and properties in writing to Mr Johnson Akuamoah-Asiedu, the Auditor-General at the seat of Government in Accra.
The move by the President is part of his commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in his leadership, a key theme in his 2024 campaign.
President Mahama after the declaration of his assets, also instructed all his appointees to do same by March 31, 2025, or face consequences, including removal from office.
The President said a look at the Statutes on Assets Declaration and Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution, named the President, the Vice-President, Ministers and Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament and Judges.
He said under Act 550, Public Office Holders Declaration of Assets, all Public Officers, including those in the Civil Service, Public Corporations and Statutory Boards, Chief Executives of all Public Corporations, District Chief Executives and then Members of the Council of State.
He said there were many people in public office who do not know that they were covered under this Assets Declaration Regime.
He reiterated that there must be a reminder to all those people that they were covered under the Assets Declaration Regime.
“And so, I have presented mine this morning…”I’ve just performed a simple but brief, very important act of presenting my completed Assets Declaration forms to the Auditor General as
required by Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution and the Public Officers, Public Office Holders Declaration of Assets and Disqualifications Act 1998, Act 550.”
President Mahama said Ghana’s Assets Declaration Regime and its related activities had often been shrouded in secrecy and only unless in special circumstances, compliance was often difficult to measure.
He noted that in times past, he would privately have presented the forms to the Auditor-General in fulfillment of his statutory obligation.
“I’ve taken this step of presenting these forms publicly as a way of injecting some openness and transparency into the process of Assets Declaration,” the President stated.
“I’ve always maintained that while it is all well and good to punish corruption, a more effective way of addressing the canker is preventing it from occurring in the first place.
“I honestly believe that if properly curated and enforced, the Assets Declaration process can become a sustainable tool for tackling corruption.”
President Mahama said corruption by nature was insidious and thrives under the cover of darkness.
He noted that the more light that was shown on it, the more likely that it would be fought successfully.
He said he had also taken the step to send an unmistakable signal to all public office holders, especially those that he had appointed, that he takes the Declaration of Assets very seriously and expects full compliance from them.
“I’ve asked the Chief of Staff to send word to all appointees to ensure that they declare their assets by the end of the first quarter of this year, that is by 31st March 2025,” President Mahama said.
“I wish to stress that any appointee failing to meet this deadline would face severe sanctions, not excluding removal from office”
President Mahama said even as they strived to hold past government officials accountable for their stewardship, he deemed it even more imperative to enforce anti-corruption among the present public office holders; declaring that “Charity, they say, begins at home”.
The President said he was therefore determined to take the necessary steps to ensure that they fought corruption vigorously, so that the precious little resources that had been entrusted to them by the Ghanaian people were used only in their interest.
He said that there had been issues raised about the effectiveness of the current Assets Declaration regime, which they must take advantage of the current Constitution Review process to strengthen the Assets Declaration regime to make it more relevant to changing times.
He proposed that a shift to a regime where the assets so declared could be published before and after public office so that the phenomenon of unexplained and overnight wealth, obviously and through the proceeds of corruption, could be checked.
He called for a healthy debate over the issue and consensus built on the way forward so that collectively, Ghanaians could defeat the canker of corruption.
A Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) survivor Muniru Ibrahim has called on benevolent organizations to support the Ghana Health Service in combating the ongoing outbreak in the Upper West Region.
Sharing his harrowing experience, Ibrahim highlighted the immense financial strain the disease placed on his family and stressed the importance of timely medical intervention.
To prevent cost-related fatalities, the government has introduced a free treatment policy for CSM patients through the Ghana Health Service, however, with 129 suspected cases, 22 confirmed, and 16 deaths recorded so far, additional external support is vital for the policy’s success.
Muniru Ibrahim, the survivor vividly recalls his near-death experience with CSM, stating that, while returning from a funeral, he was suddenly overcome by weakness, fever, and immobility. With limited healthcare access, his desperate family tied him to a bicycle and rushed him to the hospital.
Now grateful for his survival, Ibrahim has advocated for early medical care and urged organizations to help ease the financial burden on affected families.
In a bid to curb the outbreak, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has donated GHC 300,000 worth of medical supplies to support free treatment for CSM patients. The donation includes: 8,400 doses of Ceftriaxone injection,1,600 doses of Reception injection,
2,100 units each of Ringer’s Lactate and Normal Saline, 12 packs of spinal needles, 300 doses of Dexamethasone
Bagbin revealed that the Upper West Caucus of MPs raised awareness of the crisis in Parliament, prompting his swift intervention.
He commended healthcare workers for their dedication and urged continued support, assuring that every effort would be made to save lives in the region.
Dr. Damien Punguyire, Upper West Regional Health Director, painted a grim picture of the outbreak, noting that nearly every district has been affected. Lawra has emerged as the latest hotspot, underscoring the urgency of early detection.
He stressed that survival depends on swift medical intervention and lamented that many early deaths resulted from delays and lack of health insurance.
Upper West Regional Minister, Lawyer Charles Lwanga Puozuing, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling the crisis.
Following an emergency session on February 10, he launched a sensitization campaign, emphasizing that public awareness is key to preventing further casualties.
One of Ghana’s favourite musicians, Empress Gifty Adorye has shared valuable relationship advice, urging both men and women to focus on more than just intimacy in their marriages.
In a video posted on her social media platform, Empress Gifty pointed out that many women mistakenly believe that offering different styles in the bedroom is enough to keep a man.
She advised young women to instead focus on learning how to keep a home, emphasizing that a strong marriage requires more than just physical connection.
Addressing men, she stressed the importance of understanding women’s needs and treating them with care. She encouraged men to learn how to properly engage with their partners before intimacy, highlighting the need for affection and foreplay.
“Women have delicate bodies. As a man who wants to sleep with a woman, make sure you wash your hands very well because during intimacy, you will use your hands. If they are not clean, you risk giving her infections. Learn how to fondle her breasts, massage her, and make her feel good,” she advised.
Her message has sparked discussions online, with many agreeing that emotional connection, respect, and care play a crucial role in sustaining a lasting marriage. She gave this advice on Valentine’s day.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has reported on the ongoing cholera outbreak, which began over five months ago in October 2024 in Ada West in the Greater Accra Region, stating that as of February 13, 2025, the outbreak has spread to multiple regions, resulting in 6,145 recorded cases, 719 confirmed cases, and 49 deaths.
“Mr. Speaker, I must put on record that the current cholera outbreak began over 5 months ago – in October 2024 in Ada West in the Greater Accra Region,” said Akandoh in Parliament on Tuesday, February 18.
“Since the outset in October 2024, it has unfortunately spread to other districts in Greater Accra and four other regions, namely Central, Western, Ashanti, and Eastern Regions.”
“As of 13th February 2025, we have recorded 6,145 cases, 719 confirmed cases, and unfortunately, forty-nine (49) deaths. In all, five regions have reported cases since the outbreak began. These are: Greater Accra, Central, Western, Ashanti, and Eastern Regions.”
Despite the concerning statistics, the Health Minister highlighted some positive developments.
“It is worth noting that the situation is improving with active cases now concentrated in the Central Region only,” he stated.
He elaborated on the situation in the Central Region: “This region has been particularly affected by the current outbreak, with a significant number of cases reported in recent weeks. The districts of Agona West and Effutu have been particularly hard-hit. In the past week alone, these two districts reported 133 cases, twenty-three (23) admissions, and unfortunately two (2) deaths.”
However, Akandoh shared some encouraging news: “Despite the worrying situation in the Central Region, I bring encouraging news. New cholera cases are decreasing, and the districts of Agona West and Effutu, which were initially hard-hit, are now showing a decline in new cases.”
As of February 16, the Central Region reported a total of 28 active cases on admission, with the distribution as follows: – Effutu: 18 cases – Cape Coast: 6 cases – Agona West: 4 cases
“This positive shift is a testament to the relentless efforts of our healthcare workers and partners, who have been diligently implementing a robust response plan,” Akandoh emphasised.
“This plan includes heightened surveillance to swiftly identify and manage cases, strengthened laboratory capacity for accurate and timely diagnosis, and environmental assessments to pinpoint and address risk factors.
“We have also established cholera treatment centres and are conducting public awareness campaigns to educate communities. The strategic deployment of oral cholera vaccines in high-risk areas is further contributing to this positive trend.”

Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has urged the public to disregarded claims circulating on social media suggesting that the government has announced an increase in cocoa prices stating that such reports are entirely false.
The cocoa regulatory body thus urged stakeholders and the public to rely only on official communication channels for accurate updates on cocoa pricing.
A social media flyer suggested that the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, had declared that cocoa farmers would be paid 70% of the world market price, but this has been labeled as misleading by COCOBOD.
“Our attention has been drawn to a false flyer circulating on social media claiming that the Minister for Food and Agriculture has announced an increase in cocoa prices. This information is completely untrue,” it said.
COCOBOD reassured the public that any changes in future price would be communicated through the appropriate official channels to prevent misinformation.
“We urge our cherished stakeholders and the public to disregard this fake news and rely only on official communication from COCOBOD and the Ministry,” COCOBOD wrote on it social media page.
The development comes at a time when cocoa farmers and industry players are keenly watching for any potential price adjustments amid global market fluctuations.
The issue of cocoa pricing remains a sensitive one as the country continues to grapple with challenges in the sector, including rising production costs, declining output, climate-related risks, and the impact of global cocoa supply and demand trends.
Cocoa farmers have been advocating for better prices to reflect the realities of their operational costs, but COCOBOD says any price changes will be announced through the appropriate channels.
The functional executive committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intervened to prevent any potential disruption within the party due to internal disagreements surrounding the vetting process for Metropolitan and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Greater Accra Region.

Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams has called for punishment against Espanyol fans who racially abused his teammates in their matchday 24 fixture on Sunday.
Moroccan international Maroan Sannadi was subjected to racist insults at the RCDE Stadium.
The incident occurred in the first half, prompting Williams to inform the referee, which led to the activation of football’s anti-racism protocol.
As part of the protocol, an initial warning was issued over the stadium’s loudspeaker.
If the abuse continued, the match would be temporarily halted, with players leaving the pitch only on a third occurrence.
Williams, who was near the incident, confirmed he heard insults directed at Sannadi.
Speaking to Cadena SER after the game, the Ghanaian international emphasized that football as a whole must unite against racism and stressed that the issue was not exclusive to Espanyol.
“Football is meant to be enjoyed, and things like this should never happen,” Williams said.
“Maroan made a simple play, and they insulted him, calling him a f**** Moor. This isn’t the first time it has happened here it happened to me before but that shouldn’t tarnish Espanyol’s fan base.”
He continued, “Football needs to be protected. Espanyol needs it true fans, not the handful of people ruining the game. It’s a shame. The referee handled it well, but I don’t understand why Espanyol fans whistled at me afterwards. I hope action is taken, awareness is raised, and those responsible are punished.
Racism has become a growing issue in Spanish football, with repeated incidents, including abuse aimed at Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior in recent years.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw which leaves Espanyol a point above the relegation zone.
While stricter punishments, including prison sentences, are now being enforced, there remains debate over whether these measures are enough to deter racist behaviour in the sport.

Ghana stands at the face of a great transformation. A nation of promise, with a rich history and boundless potential, now finds itself at a crossroads.
The choices made today by the new government will determine whether Ghana emerges as a shining beacon of investment and prosperity for years to come or falters under the weight of inaction.

The time for bold leadership is now. For Ghana to fully harness its economic potential, it must prioritize regulatory stability, transparent governance, and investment-friendly policies. Without these pillars, efforts to attract and retain foreign investment will be severely hampered.
The challenge before us
For decades, Ghana has been heralded as the ‘Black Star of Africa’, a symbol of stability and economic opportunity in a volatile world. And yet, recent years have tested that reputation. Capital is not patriotic; it flows where it finds security and returns. The decline in Ghana’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from US$1.35 billion in 2022 to US$649.58 million in 2023 (https://gipc.gov.gh/)- signals a growing apprehension among investors.
The World Bank’s Business Ready 2024 report highlights inefficiencies in business registration, permit issuance, and market competition as significant deterrents to investment. These challenges create an unpredictable business environment that erodes investor confidence. The international community watches with concern as regulatory inconsistencies, prolonged arbitration disputes, and the paralysis of essential infrastructure projects cast a shadow over Ghana’s future.
The world does not stand still, and neither can Ghana. The greatest nations of our time did not rise on potential alone—they thrived because they seized their moment with clarity, vision, and determination. Ghana must do the same and the new Government has the power and I believe, determination, to do just that.
A new era of digital progress
One such moment is upon us. Ghana stands at the threshold of a new digital era with the launch of 5G services—an essential step toward accelerating data growth and driving nationwide digitalization. This milestone will unlock new opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development, positioning Ghana as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation.
The rollout of 5G aligns with the country’s Digital Agenda 2030 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, marking significant progress toward a more connected and prosperous future. Next Gen Infraco (NGIC), as the country’s only licensed 5G wholesale enabler, will play a key role in supporting this transformation.
But progress is not guaranteed. A promising future can be derailed by hesitation. If the regulatory environment remains unpredictable, if contract sanctity continues to be questioned, and if bureaucratic inefficiencies are left unresolved, then this moment of transformation will slip through our fingers. Investors do not seek guarantees of success, but they do demand fairness, transparency, and consistency. The government must ensure that these principles are upheld, for they are the foundation upon which great economies are built.
The gravity of commitment
One of the most pressing concerns in Ghana today is the issue of contract enforcement. The US$251 million owed to American companies, that US Senator James, E. Risch stated recently is not just a financial liability—it is a test of credibility. The global business community watches closely. Will Ghana reaffirm its reputation as a reliable partner, or will it send a message that agreements are fleeting and obligations optional? The answer to this question will shape our investment decisions.
Nations that uphold the rule of law flourish. Those that waver in their commitments find themselves isolated, struggling to regain trust. Every investor, whether Ghanaian or foreign, asks one fundamental question: “Will my investment be protected?” The answer must be a resounding yes, anything less will lead businesses to reconsider not only future investments in the country but, more critically, their existing commitments.
The call for leadership
Ghana is no stranger to adversity. Its people are resilient, its potential boundless. But the prosperity of tomorrow requires the courage to act today. The new administration has an opportunity—a duty—to take decisive steps that will shape the next decade.
First, regulatory frameworks must be strengthened and applied consistently. Policies need to be predictable, fair, and transparent.
Second, stalled infrastructure projects—especially those vital to digital and economic transformation—must be unlocked. The cost of inaction is far greater than the effort required to resolve disputes and move forward.
Third, Ghana must champion its role as a leader in Africa’s digital future. The NGIC 5G rollout is a testament to what is possible when vision meets determination. The government must work hand in hand with the private sector to build on this momentum, ensuring that connectivity infrastructure reaches every corner of the country.
A defining moment
History does not wait for those who hesitate. Ghana’s moment is here and now. The actions taken in the coming months will determine whether this nation rises as an economic powerhouse in Africa or lingers in uncertainty. To the policymakers, I say: choose progress over paralysis. To the regulators, I urge: uphold the rule of law and earn the confidence of investors. And to my fellow investors, I say: we stand ready to be part of Ghana’s future, but we do so with the expectation that our commitments will be met with the same certainty we offer in return.
Ghana’s potential is not in question. Its destiny, however, is in its own hands.
