The recent uproar over alleged attacks on Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings in Parliament has reignited a long-standing debate about decorum and accountability in Ghana’s legislature.
Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini has weighed in on the matter, cautioning against attempts to justify past misconduct with new instances of indiscipline in an interview on Joy News, monitored by MyNewsGh.
Fuseini condemned the growing trend of disruptive and inflammatory conduct among MPs, noting that Parliament is increasingly becoming defined by “indiscipline, immaturity, and impunity.”
Addressing comparisons between the attacks on Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings and previous incidents, such as those directed at Lydia Alhassan in the eighth Parliament, Fuseini rejected the notion that past wrongs should serve as a precedent for current behaviour.
“Some are beginning to argue that the majority today does not have the moral right to complain about what was said against Zanetor because of what they did against Lydia Alhassan. But if you make that argument, you clearly don’t understand what Parliament is,” he asserted.
He stressed that the ninth Parliament cannot be held accountable for the actions of the eighth Parliament, stating: “You can’t justify an action of the eighth Parliament by an action of the ninth Parliament. What happened in the past is gone, and comparisons can only serve historical purposes, not as an excuse for present misconduct.”
Attorney General has dropped charges against Dr. Asiama
Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako has, on behalf of the Minority in Parliament, called on President John Dramani Mahama to ensure the legal suit against the newly appointed Governor of Bank of Ghana resumes.
Dr. Gideon Boako found it distasteful the president’s decision to drop the charges against Dr. Johnson Asiama and appoint him to head the Central Bank.
Speaking on the “Kokrokoo” morning show on Peace FM, he alluded to Dr. Asiama’s case pending in court whereby he has been charged with financial-related crimes.
Dr. Gideon Boako explained that the president, upon appointing the new Governor, had subsequently dropped the charges.
He also narrated that Dr. Asiama was jointly sued with former finance minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, Dr. Kofi Amoabeng, Chief Executive of the defunct UT Bank and two others.
He therefore wonders why Asiama should be left off the hook while the others continue to stand trial.
To him, the Minority seeks for Asiama’s case to be dealt with conclusively saying “Just as the four persons including Kwabena Duffour, Amoabeng of UT Bank, have their cases pending in court, we sent them together with Asiama to court, it behoves President Mahama to allow Asiama’s case to continue in court and if the court acquits him, then we all can have the hope and guarantee that the person who is in charge of Ghana’s purse is innocent”.
Meanwhile, the Minority has admonished Dr. Johnson Asiama to refrain from engaging in any activities at the Bank of Ghana (BoG) until his nomination as the Governor is approved by the Council of State.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, has explained why she has remained absent from Ghana’s political scene, despite public calls for her return.
She highlighted her commitment to her new international role and emphasized the importance of allowing her sisters to grow politically without competition in an interview on 3FM monitored by MyNewsGH.
Tetteh, who was recently appointed to a new role by the United Nations, described the appointment as an honour, reflecting the confidence the UN Secretary-General has in her capabilities.
However, some Ghanaians have questioned why she did not stay to support President John Mahama’s administration.
Addressing this, she clarified that Mahama had already signalled his intention to run a lean government, making it clear that not everyone who contributed to his campaign could be appointed.
Beyond this, Tetteh pointed out that having multiple family members in government could raise concerns about nepotism. With her sisters now actively involved in politics—one serving as an MP and another managing communications in the Central Region—she believes stepping aside allows them room to grow.
“As the eldest, I want to avoid competition among ourselves,” she said, adding that she will always be available to support them when needed.
Despite speculations about her possible return to high-level politics, including suggestions of a vice-presidential candidacy, Tetteh dismissed such discussions, stating that the focus should be on improving governance rather than individuals holding positions.

Entertainment pundit and media personality Ola Michael has expressed concern over the growing trend of young Ghanaian musicians glorifying hard drugs in their songs.
According to him, such music could lead to an increase in social vices, particularly among high school students who may emulate the behaviors promoted in these songs.
“Musicians are happily singing about smoking and taking certain mixtures, and children are consuming it. These songs are part of why many forms of drugs are common among the youth,” he stated.
Speaking on United Showbiz on UTV on February 8, 2025, Ola Michael highlighted the potential long-term consequences of this trend.
“With time, the country might be in a bad position as several of the youth may abuse these drugs,” he said.
He urged authorities in the music industry to take immediate action to address the issue and prevent a future surge in mental health problems.
“We should have some sort of censorship on these songs. Nobody has banned any song; it was a media house that said it won’t play a certain song. There is no censorship board anywhere. Why is everybody quiet?” he questioned.
His comments come in the wake of the deteriorating mental health of Ghanaian musician Okomfour Kwadee, who has struggled with drug use and abuse for several years.
“Kwadee’s issue has come up, and now we are talking. But what about those who have it worse than him? Right now, smoking and drugs have become so common because they have been normalized by these artistes,” he lamented.

Tariq Lamptey delivered a standout performance as Brighton & Hove Albion secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the Emirates FA Cup, earning him the Man of the Match accolade.
The Ghanaian full-back, who started in an advanced role, played a key part in the Seagulls’ triumph at the AMEX Stadium on Saturday.
Chelsea took an early lead courtesy of an own goal by Brighton’s Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
However, Brighton remained composed and responded with goals from Georginio Rutter and Japanese star Kaoru Mitoma, sealing their place in the next round of the competition.
Lamptey’s influence on the game was undeniable.
Despite his diminutive stature, the 24-year-old was a dominant force on the pitch, winning the most tackles and duels while also completing the most dribbles.
His electrifying pace and relentless work ethic were instrumental in disrupting Chelsea’s defence and launching counterattacks for Brighton.
With three goals and two assists in just 14 matches this season, Lamptey is proving to be a key asset for Brighton.
His consistent form could see him earn a spot in Otto Addo’s Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar next month.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has reaffirmed its constitutional independence, asserting that it cannot be coerced into declaring the results of the Ablekuma North Parliamentary race outside due process.
The Commission emphasised that its authority is enshrined in the 1992 Constitution, and no amount of pressure or ultimatums from political groups will influence its procedures.
Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director of Research at the EC, made this declaration following growing agitation from political parties and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) demanding the immediate release of the constituency’s results.
In an interview with Accra-based GHOne TV, Mr. Tetteh said the EC is committed to transparency and accuracy in its electoral process and will not succumb to external pressures that may compromise the integrity of the election.
He further explained that the collation of results in Ablekuma North had encountered certain challenges, necessitating a more cautious approach before the final declaration.
Reports indicate that discrepancies in the figures from three polling stations had delayed the collation process, with political party agents raising concerns over inconsistencies between the initial tallied results and what was recorded on the official pink sheets.
There were also allegations of missing electoral materials, which required the Commission to conduct a thorough verification before proceeding with the final collation.
Mr. Tetteh remained resolute and assured that the declaration would be made in due time.
“One thing that I will like people to know is that the Electoral Commission, as per Article 46 of the 1992 Constitution, doesn’t work under the direction or authority of any individual or body.
“The Commission’s independence is assured in the Constitution, and therefore, giving ultimatum will not amount to anything. The Commission, in its own time, will come out and have the three polling stations added up and a declaration made,” Mr Tetteh said in an interview with GHONE TV.
National Security operatives have intercepted a significant haul of counterfeit money and suspected gold bars concealed within twelve 20-foot shipping containers.
Acting on a tip-off, officers raided a warehouse in Sapeiman, within the Ga South Municipality, where the illegal stash was uncovered.
Upon inspection, bundles of fake US dollars were found inside wooden boxes, which had been hidden within cement to avoid detection. Other items seized included counterfeit Ghana cedi notes, as well as fake Ghana Army uniforms and boots, raising further security concerns.
Authorities have confirmed that two of the containers remain unaccounted for, with intensified efforts underway to locate them.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for four individuals, including a suspected ringleader identified only as Alhaji. National Security has assured the public that investigations are ongoing to dismantle the operation and bring all culprits to justice.

Members of the ORAL Committee advised to also direct their investigations towards themselves
Socio-political commentator, Atik Mohammed has asked the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team to extend their mandate by encompassing corrupt acts not just involving government officials of the previous administration but also look within themselves.
His admonition comes after certain discoveries were made during the vetting of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who chairs the ORAL.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa while being vetted for the position of the Minister of Foreign Affairs was asked a number of questions by Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin. It was discovered that the nominee has been residing at Airport Hills, one of the plush and expensive areas in Ghana, as a tenant for over 8 years.
Mr. Okudzeto told the Appointments Committee that he didn’t own his house at Airport Hills, rather he’s been paying rent over the years, hence raising eyebrows over his source of wealth as he noted before the committee that he was a “full-time politician”.
Commenting on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Atik seemingly sought investigations into Mr. Ablakwa’s property acquisition, particularly regarding his residence at Airport Hills.
“Ablakwa has done a very good job pursuing issues of public interest but all these show that the (ORAL) compass should go round. It should not be fixated on just one direction. Whoever, whether a prosecutor, inspector or any person, everybody involved must be first checked before we check others or while checking others, they must be checked as well”, he asserted.

Hanna Serwaa Tetteh has advised the Minister for Foreign Affairs, urging him to take a broader perspective on regional and international affairs.
She emphasized the need for Ghana to recognize both its strengths and weaknesses in global diplomacy, cautioning against overestimating its influence.
Tetteh noted that while Ghana has historically positioned itself as a leader in Africa, other nations equally see themselves as important players.
“Every African country considers itself unique and special. We must collaborate, not compete,” she stated. She urged Ghana’s foreign policy leaders to engage with key allies while being mindful of how competitor nations position themselves for economic and security advantages.
Reflecting on the late President John Atta Mills, she praised his leadership style, describing him as a thoughtful statesman who prioritized service, healing, and reconciliation.
According to her, Mills had a disciplined approach to governance, providing clarity to his ministers without unnecessary interference.
The Volta Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sorkpa Kafui Agbleze, has noted that the erstwhile government sought to gag Dr. Johnson Asiama through a baseless court case for seven years.
According to him, the BoG Governor was innocent and has been vindicated by the current government.
He noted that the move by the opposition in recent times to distract Dr. Asiama is unfounded and unnecessary.
In a statement quoted by myjoyonline.com, he said: “For seven good years, the NPP pursued a wicked and baseless agenda against him simply because he defended the Bank of Ghana’s decision – approved by its board – to provide liquidity support to some banks. The NPP government deliberately dragged Dr. Asiama through a prolonged legal ordeal, curtailing his freedom and imposing a heavy financial burden on him.”
“Yet, after all these years, they failed to prove any violation of the Bank of Ghana Act or establish that he caused financial loss to the state,” he said.
He believes that the governor acted in good faith to preserve banks during his tenure and should not be tried for seeking to help Ghana’s banking sector.
“So why was Dr Asiama singled out? His innocence has now been vindicated. It is clear he was targeted for political reasons because he defended legitimate financial decisions taken under the NDC government,” he said.
Therefore, “The clearance of all allegations against him is a well-deserved victory. It is high time the NPP clearly understood that their days of using Voltarians as scapegoats for their Machiavellian political tactics are over,” he further added.
Agbleze however called on Dr. Asiama to remain resolute in the midst of seeming distractions in his pursuit to “reset” Ghana’s banking sector.
“Finally, we urge the newly appointed, turbocharged Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, to remain focused and not be distracted by the empty noise of the opposition’s micro-minority – who, under their watch, plunged Ghana’s economy into hardship and instability.
“The people of the Volta Region and all well-meaning Ghanaians stand by him, confident that he will impeccably deliver in his new role to the shock of the marauding NPP naysayers,” he concluded.
His concerns come after the Minority caucus in Parliament petitioned the International Monetary Fund over the legitimacy of the appointment of the BoG Governor by President Mahama.

Gospel musician Diana Hamilton has suggested that there is a need for artistes to have therapists on their teams.
Speaking on United SHowbiz, she expalined that having therapists will help artistes open up about their challenges and help address drug usage among musicians in Ghana.
“I seek the face of the holy spirit before I get on the stage. People who do have any form of backing think they have to take some drugs to give them the adrenaline to get on that stage. Most people in other parts of the world who are creatives have therapists.
“These people visit their therapists and tell them their problems. They explain whether their songs are doing well or will do well. So if you don’t have a therapist and God who will help you gather yourself and go during your down moments, then they resort to these drugs,” she said.
Diana Hamilton, who was speaking on the state of Okomfour Kwadee, said it is imperative that creatives in Ghana are helped to know that they don’t need drugs to be able to perform or write good songs.
“We need to pray for Kwadee. We need to make creatives realize that you don’t need drugs to jump on stage. Don’t let us glorify drugs. Don’t preach these drugs, which may encourage these kids to go and look for them,” she said.
Kwasi Kwarteng (L) and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (R)
The former Spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng, has challenged Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to be forthcoming with the truth regarding a property at Airport Hills that is occupied by the lawmaker.
He stated that Ablakwa, recognised as a prominent advocate against corruption in the country, should demonstrate transparency and accountability by revealing the rent paid for the residence he occupies at Airport Hills.
Kwarteng argued that the general public is not concerned with the ownership of the property in question rather, the focus should be on how the lawmaker can afford and make payments for the property, especially given his claim of receiving only a government salary as his sole source of income.
“The real issue is not whether you own the Airport Hills property; no one is interested in that! What Ghanaians want to know is the cost of your rent and how you can afford it, given your own claim that your only source of income is a monthly salary from the Government of Ghana,” he wrote on X on February 8, 2025.
Kwarteng expressed his belief that there is something suspicious about the North Tongu lawmaker that he is unwilling to disclose to the public, accusing him of acting in a manner contrary to the principles he advocates as an anti-corruption campaigner.
“You have a famous history of intercepting and publicizing other people’s private information. So, what stops you from sharing your own tenancy agreement to bring closure to this matter? You’re definitely hiding something. And the jury out there knows you’re not what you present,” he added.
His comments followed official documents from Finali Limited, the company that owns the Airport Hills residential property in the Greater Accra Region, which confirmed that Ablakwa does not own the property.
The company stated that a tenancy agreement was signed on March 1, 2017, between Husni Altheebeh, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Nuhela Seidu, with Finali Limited granting consent for the arrangement on August 8, 2018.
The letter further confirmed that a renewal agreement was signed on March 1, 2022, and the tenancy is still in effect.
This official statement contradicts claims by the Minority that Ablakwa owns the Airport Hills residence under a different name.

Southampton manager Ivan Juric has expressed concerns over Kamaldeen Sulemana’s decision-making following the Saints’ 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Burnley on Saturday.
Despite showing flashes of brilliance, the Ghanaian winger struggled with his end product, leading to frustration from his coach.
Juric acknowledged Kamaldeen’s talent but urged him to be more composed in key moments.
“He did some really good things, I think he’s a little bit impatient at the moment, and he wants to do one-on-one in the situation that he has to play,” Juric told Daily Echo.
“I think it’s normal because he’s really feeling good, he wants to do his best, and I’m sure that what I saw in training, even today, he will score the goals.”
Kamaldeen was lively throughout the match, completing six of his ten attempted dribbles and recording 49 touches with an 81% passing accuracy.
However, he managed just one off-target shot and had another attempt blocked before being substituted in the 86th minute.

The InTouch report revealed that Kim has specifically cautioned Bianca about her son Saint West’s online presence, stating that if he breaks any rules under Bianca’s care, there will be serious consequences.

Kardashian has requested that Bianca limit the amount of candy in the kids consume, preventing them from returning home “wired” from excess sugar. The children have a strict bedtime routine so they stay on schedule when transitioning between parents. Dressing appropriately for different occasions enhances confidence and social appeal. A well-curated wardrobe ensures readiness for both formal and casual settings. Women benefit from categorizing their attires into two essential groups: formal wear and casual wear. These categories serve distinct purposes and cater to varied social and professional interactions.
Formal wear includes outfits suitable for professional settings, official gatherings, and elegant occasions. Structured dresses, tailored suits, and sophisticated skirts with blouses fall into this category. These attires project confidence and authority, making them essential for career advancement and social prestige. Accessories such as minimal jewelry, elegant handbags, and polished footwear complement the look, reinforcing a refined appearance. Wearing formal attire enhances credibility, creating a lasting impression in professional and ceremonial environments.
On the other hand, casual wear provides comfort and flexibility for everyday activities. Relaxed jeans, comfortable dresses, and stylish yet functional tops define this category. Such outfits allow ease of movement, making them suitable for leisure, errands, and informal social events. Casual attire fosters relaxation while maintaining an element of personal style. The versatility of casual clothing makes it easy to mix and match pieces, ensuring a dynamic and cost-effective wardrobe. Sneakers, flats, and casual handbags further enhance the practicality of these outfits, ensuring a well-put-together appearance without compromising comfort.
Both categories contribute to a woman’s ability to navigate different social and professional landscapes with ease. Having a balanced wardrobe ensures preparedness for any event, reducing stress and enhancing self-expression. Thoughtful selection of both formal and casual attire enables a seamless transition between various aspects of life. By maintaining a collection that reflects both categories, women achieve a harmonious blend of sophistication and comfort in their daily dressing choices.
Multiple award-winning Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Francisca Gawuga, popularly known as Sista Afia, has made a surprising revelation about her creative prowess.
The talented musician disclosed that she personally records most of her songs before sending them off to her producer for final touches.
In an exclusive interview on The Chat on Channel One TV with host Ekow Koomson, the Jeje hitmaker shared insights into how she takes control of her music production from the comfort of her home studio.
According to Sista Afia, before most of her songs reach the hands of her music producer, she ensures that the fundamental aspects, including her vocal recordings, are already completed.
“I record most of my songs at home because I have a studio at home. I recorded Jeje, Conner Conner, Whether, and others all by myself. I record the vocals and send the files to my producer to master it and everything.”
Her statement highlights the growing trend of artistes taking charge of their own recording sessions, a move that grants them more creative freedom and control over their sound before the final production process.
Despite her ability to self-record, Sista Afia noted that she does not see herself transitioning into a full-time music producer.
While she appreciates the flexibility of having her own recording space, she prefers to leave the technical aspects of music production to the experts.

Ghanaian highlife crooner Kwabena Kwabena has reignited the conversation on whether there are record labels in Ghana.
The ‘Adult Music’ hitmaker, in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, expressed doubt about the assertion that the Ghanaian music industry has record labels.
When asked if he would accept a deal from a Ghanaian record label under favorable terms, he replied, “Are there record labels in Ghana?”
“No, no, no. I am sorry, there is no record label in Ghana,” he said.
Just like Kwabena Kwabena, some people believe that many music companies described as record labels are merely music management and promotional enterprises. He argues that most of these entities only provide label services but do not function as traditional record labels.
Others have countered that the size of a record label has nothing to do with its function, as businesses worldwide vary in scale but often serve similar purposes.
Some music companies described as record labels in Ghana include RuffTown Records, Highly Spiritual Music, Lynx Entertainment, Black Avenue Musik, Mimlife Records, SarkCess Music, MicBurnerz Music, and Flip the Music, among others.
Talent manager George Mensah Britton has underscored the crucial role that record labels play in helping musicians achieve global recognition, including winning prestigious awards like the Grammys.
Speaking on The Chat on Channel One TV, George Britton lamented Ghana’s prolonged absence from the Grammy winners’ circle and stressed the need for a more structured music industry that prioritises promotion and marketing, rather than focusing solely on raw talent.
During the discussion, George Britton referenced the recent success of Nigerian singer Tems, who won the Best African Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards.
Tems’ victory placed her ahead of fellow Nigerian nominees such as Burna Boy and Yemi Alade, and other artistes.
George Britton pointed out that one of the key factors contributing to Nigerian musicians’ Grammy successes is the presence of well-structured record labels and music executives who actively invest in promotion and marketing.
He argued that Ghanaian musicians are equally talented but lack the industry infrastructure to push their music beyond local borders.
According to George Britton, the issue in Ghana is not a lack of talent but rather the absence of strong industry backing. He compared the Ghanaian music industry to Nigeria’s, noting that while Ghana focuses heavily on talent, Nigeria invests significantly in music promotion and marketing.
“The problem is not the talent because in Nigeria, there are music executives who invest in promotion and marketing but in Ghana, what we focus on about is the talent. In Ghana, the only time a musician is mentioned is when they are present. The guys with Tems for example, they are very active and present in the United States.”
With Tems’ Grammy win serving as an inspiration, there is hope that Ghanaian artistes and industry players will take cues from Nigeria’s model, fostering an environment where artistes are supported not just locally, but on the global stage as well. Whether Ghana can make the necessary adjustments to finally break into the Grammy winners’ circle remains to be seen, but the conversation around structured music promotion is certainly gaining momentum.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the interdiction of Adams Mahama Issahaku, headmaster of Piina Senior High School in the Upper West Region, following a directive from the Director-General of the Service.
The action, effective immediately, is in connection with an ongoing investigation into allegations involving food items found in Mr. Issahaku’s official pick-up vehicle on his way from Piina SHS to Wa on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
A February 7 letter signed by Razak Z. Abdul-Korah, Regional Director of GES for the Upper West Region, emphasised that the interdiction is a procedural measure and does not amount to a presumption of guilt.
The GES assured all stakeholders that the investigation would be thorough, and Mr. Issahaku would be notified of the findings and any subsequent decisions.
As part of the directive, Mr. Issahaku has been instructed to hand over the administration of the school and all associated property to the Upper West Regional Director of Education.
He has also been urged to cooperate fully with the investigation by making himself available as needed and avoiding any actions that might compromise the process.
The letter further assured the public of GES’s commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in the education sector.
It called on Mr. Issahaku and all relevant parties to adhere to the directives and facilitate the smooth progression of the investigation.

In a thought-provoking statement, renowned media personality Captain Smart offered his insights on the intricate relationship between politicians and media platforms, particularly in the context of a notable incident involving Kwame Sefa Kayi, the host of Peace FM’s popular Kokrokoo show, and Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The incident, which occurred some time ago, involved Gyamfi being dismissed from the Kokrokoo show following a heated exchange with Sefa Kayi. At that time, the decision elicited a wave of reactions, with some audiences expressing satisfaction over Gyamfi’s removal. However, in a surprising development, Captain Smart revealed that Sefa Kayi has since issued a public apology regarding the incident, altering the initial narrative surrounding the confrontation.
“When Sefa Kayi sacked Sammy Gyamfi from his show, some of you were happy, but now the senior man is apologizing; the table has turned,” Captain Smart remarked, pointing to the unpredictable dynamics that characterize media and political interactions. His comments reflect a broader sentiment about the shifting allegiances and public perceptions that often accompany political discourse in the media.
Captain Smart took the opportunity to delineate his own approach to media engagements, stating unequivocally that he does not actively seek out politicians to appear on his show. In his characteristic straightforward manner, he asserted, “Personally, I don’t entertain politicians. When I hear that NPP representatives say they won’t come on my show, I don’t care because I don’t need them.” This declaration underscores his commitment to maintaining an independent and unbiased platform for his audience.
By emphasizing his independence, Captain Smart conveyed a clear message about the importance of neutrality in media reporting. He expressed that his platform is not designed to cater to political figures or their agendas. “I don’t need any NPP representatives on my show,” he boldly stated, reinforcing his dedication to providing balanced coverage free from political influence.
Captain Smart’s remarks resonate with viewers who value objectivity in media reporting, especially in a landscape where political narratives can heavily influence public opinion. His critique of the power dynamics that often shape media engagements is particularly relevant in the current political climate, where media outlets frequently find themselves navigating complex relationships with politicians and political parties.
The discourse surrounding the incident between Sefa Kayi and Sammy Gyamfi, coupled with Captain Smart’s reflections, serves to highlight the evolving nature of media and politics in Ghana. As public figures grapple with the implications of their interactions, the need for transparency and accountability in media practices becomes increasingly critical.
In conclusion, Captain Smart’s insights on the Sefa Kayi and Sammy Gyamfi incident underscore the complexities of political engagement in media. His commitment to independence and neutrality offers a refreshing perspective in an environment often marked by partisanship and bias. As discussions surrounding media ethics and political accountability continue, Captain Smart’s stance may inspire other media practitioners to prioritize the integrity of their platforms.
Mothers often find themselves juggling numerous responsibilities, which can leave little time for complex hair routines. However, simple and chic hairstyles can help them look polished while saving time. One quick option is a sleek ponytail, which can be elevated with a simple hair accessory like a scrunchie or a decorative clip. This hairstyle not only keeps hair out of the face but also adds a sense of sophistication, making it perfect for busy mornings. For mothers with medium to long hair, loose waves are another easy option. By using a curling iron or even braiding the hair overnight, soft waves can be created without much effort. These waves add volume and texture, giving a relaxed yet put-together appearance that works for both casual and more formal settings.
If you’re short on time but still want a polished look, a messy bun is a go-to choice. It’s quick to pull together and can be made to look effortlessly stylish. By leaving a few strands loose around the face, this style gives a softer, more natural vibe. For mothers looking for a bit of variety, a half-up, half-down style is perfect for showing off both the length and texture of their hair without the hassle of managing it all. It’s easy to achieve with just a few twists and pins, and it’s a great way to keep hair out of the face while still leaving some hair to flow freely.
These hairstyles are practical yet stylish, offering busy mothers a chance to look their best without spending too much time on their hair. Whether choosing a sleek ponytail or a relaxed messy bun, each option provides both convenience and beauty.
A woman and her two children have been tragically murdered in Bawku after gunmen who were reportedly dressed in military uniforms stormed their residence and shot them.
The incident occurred in Tensungo, a few metres from a military camp in the Bawku township. Though it is not clear what provoked this incident, however, it is reported to be linked with the ongoing chieftaincy conflict in the area.
This has tallied the total number of deaths in the area since the re-emergence of the conflict in October 2024 to 45 people.
The last incident was on January 25, when a 13-year-old boy was killed around the same spot of the Bawku township.
This has intensified tension in the area after two weeks of relative calm.
Assemblymember for the Tensungo Electoral Area, Mohammed Saani confirmed the incident to Citi News, stating that the bodies have been deposited at the morgue after a doctor’s confirmation.
“Around 2am this morning, a gunman entered a house and killed a woman and her two children, and the incident was reported to me, and I informed the police, and the military also came, and we took the bodies to the hospital for confirmation.
“When I got to the residence, the family was alleging that the gunman was in uniform, and they believed he will be back to commit more atrocities.”

In a political landscape where cohesion is paramount, the recent incident involving Ekow Vincent Assafuah, the MP for Old Tafo Constituency, cannot be overlooked. Dismissed from an office for not having a scheduled appointment, Assafuah’s experience highlights a deeper malaise within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that demands our attention. As citizens, we should be concerned about the implications of such incidents on governance, party unity, and the broader political environment in Ghana.
Assafuah’s dismissal is more than just a personal setback; it sheds light on the lack of respect for hierarchy and protocol within the NPP. His vocal disappointment during a discussion on Hello FM underscores a worrying trend of internal divisions that could weaken the party’s strength and credibility. When party members like Assafuah feel disregarded, it creates an atmosphere of discontent. This issue is not just about one MP but reflects a growing sentiment among the grassroots that their voices are not being heard.
Furthermore, the failure to promote unity and accessibility within the party could lead to a disconnect between leadership and ordinary members. Many Ghanaians remember the days when party loyalty was synonymous with community engagement. Today, however, voters are increasingly skeptical, and incidents like this only fuel that skepticism.
In conclusion, the NPP must address the internal discord that Assafuah’s experience highlights. As we reflect on these developments, one must ask: How can the NPP restore trust and unity to ensure that every member feels valued and heard? The future of Ghanaian politics may depend on the answer.
According to Mr. Tetteh, the EC is committed to transparency and accuracy in its electoral process and will not succumb to external pressures that may compromise the integrity of the election.

The late Grace Coleman was a former Deputy Minister of Finance
On many occasions, when Africans, particularly Ghanaians, travel abroad in search of better opportunities and achieve success, they often become reluctant to extend a helping hand to their relatives back home or go the extra mile to assist them in joining them for a better life.
Many wonder why this happens, with some sharing the opinion that those who behave this way are selfish, among other reasons.
While some may have genuine reasons for making such decisions, there is a common perception that family members who receive help and are brought abroad to join their relatives often repay them with ingratitude.
This mirrors the unfortunate story of the late Barbara Coleman-Blackwell, a once-successful Ghanaian woman who was happily married and living in the US. Her decision to help a family relative, however, drastically changed the trajectory of her life and that of her family.
During her burial, Barbara’s family recounted her ordeal in a heartbreaking and touching tribute. They shared that Barbara, whose late mother was a former Deputy Minister of Finance under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, had helped facilitate a visa for a relative to move abroad and assist with caring for Barbara’s children while she attended work.
Margaret Owusuwaa, the relative in question and Barbara’s mother’s cousin pleaded and begged when the conversation first arose. Barbara was in search of someone from Ghana to help babysit her second child, and after repeated pleas from Margaret and other relatives, their efforts ultimately yielded positive results.
According to the tribute which went viral on social media, Margaret received a six-month visa stay in the US. With help from Barbara and her mother, Grace Coleman, she traveled to join them.
The tribute further revealed that just days before the expiration of Margaret’s visa, she fled and reported Barbara and her husband, an American citizen, to US immigration, accusing them of enslaving her without pay.
As the incident unfolded, Barbara was apprehended by law enforcement and made to stand trial. Her mother, Grace Coleman, was relieved of her position as Deputy Minister, following demands by the US court for her to be extradited to the US to face trial for her alleged role in the matter.
Barbara faced several charges including conspiring to induce an illegal alien to come to the United States, harboring an illegal alien, harboring an alien for financial gain, forced labor, confiscating an alien’s passport and visa, making a false statement to U.S. officials, and visa fraud.
Her husband, Kenneth Blackwell, 37, was also charged with harboring an illegal alien, harboring an alien for financial gain, and recruiting an illegal alien to come to and remain in the United States.
Barbara was sentenced to five years imprisonment and her husband who is also late, was sentenced to six months of home detention and three years’ probation.
Margaret Owusuwaah in the end got political asylum and was given a residency permit.

An announcement by the Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA) cautioning persons and companies exporting raw cashew nuts (RCN) without registration and licence to desist demonstrates the authority’s regulatory powers.
Consequently, TCDA reminds all and sundry that the act constitutes a violation of laws governing the country’s cashew export trade and stipulates sanctions.
Indeed, worry has been expressed about the surge in illegal exports which has been contributing to the high volume of raw cashew nut trade from the country. Back in 2016, the government experimented with an export ban on raw cashews in order to encourage homegrown processing.
However, the policy had to be abandoned within a couple of weeks after vociferous protests from farmers and traders. Ghana remains the third-largest exporter of unprocessed cashew nuts in the world – behind Ivory Coast in first place and Cambodia in second.
The country grows some 180,000 tonnes of the commodity annually but almost 90 percent of the cashew produced is exported in its raw form. The Africa Cashew Alliance says Ghana generates some US$300million in export revenues each year.
The Alliance however maintains there could be significantly higher returns if the commodity is processed to add value.
Lack of value addition in the cashew sector has warranted cashew farmers relying on exporting the raw nuts, since that is their only viable option to make money.
Last month, the Cashew Traders and Exporters Association of Ghana expressed concern over unlawful practices by some unauthorised foreign traders in the market. The Association claims foreign traders were manipulating the market by purchasing the commodity at inflated prices, thereby undermining established trade practices.
The Association claimed foreign players are unlawfully purchasing cashew as high as GH¢25, significantly exceeding the official selling price of GH¢15 per kilogramme.
Cashew pricing has been a major issue of contention among farmers, buyers and processors in Ghana.
Price volatility of cashew makes it difficult for actors of the sector, especially local processors, to effectively plan their operations for the year; and this not only affects these actors but also growth of the entire cashew sector.

DCOP Lydia Donkor is the Chairperson of the GFA’s Security Committee
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor, who has been tasked by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to lead investigations into the tragic stabbing of Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, has revealed that the Asante Kotoko fan was stabbed outside the stadium during the violent clash that led to his death on Sunday, February 2,2025.
Her statement contradicts initial reports suggesting the incident occurred within the match venue.
Speaking to JoySports, the Chairperson of the GFA’s Security Committee shed new light on the circumstances surrounding the attack, providing a step-by-step account of what transpired while emphasizing that strict security measures were in place at the stadium.
“This unfortunate incident did not happen inside the stadium. It happened outside, and he was later picked up by a tricycle and dropped at that section of the stadium.
“I have to clarify this because there are all kinds of comments suggesting the police allowed someone to enter the stadium with a knife. Let me state that the police enforce a strict search regime,” she said.
Addressing reports of a longstanding feud between the deceased and some Nsoatreman fans, DCOP Donkor noted that Pooley could have sought police protection if he had felt threatened.
“The best advice I can give is that if he had any genuine concerns about threats to his life, he could have approached the police or informed someone in the area so that we would be aware,” she added.
With the Ghana Police Service having arrested six suspects so far, investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Ghanaian comedian and actor Mmebusem has fired back at critics who mock his wife by calling her “Kasongo.” In a recent statement, he expressed disappointment over the negative comments, insisting that his wife is more beautiful than those making fun of her.
Mmebusem, popularly known for his Ghana Jesus skits, addressed the issue after some social media users insulted his wife’s appearance. He condemned the attacks, stating that beauty is subjective and that he loves his wife regardless of public opinion. According to him, those criticizing her do not even compare to her in looks or character.
He further questioned why people feel the need to mock someone else’s spouse, urging critics to focus on their own lives. Mmebusem emphasized that his marriage is built on love and respect, not shallow judgments about physical appearance.
His response has sparked reactions online, with some social media users supporting him while others continue to mock his wife. However, Mmebusem remains firm in his stance, making it clear that he will not tolerate disrespect toward his family.
Former Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has explained that people who had power during the tenure of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, appointees, never put the interests of the party first.
He says powerful people (Appointees and non Appointees) always put their parochial interests above those of the party, and that led to the defeat they chalked in the 2024 elections.
South Africa boasts a rich and diverse cultural heritage, which is reflected in the traditional dresses worn by its women. These garments, worn for various ceremonies, celebrations, and everyday life, represent the unique customs and identities of the country’s different ethnic groups. From the vibrant colors to the intricate designs, each piece of clothing tells a story of history, culture, and tradition.
One of the most iconic traditional dresses is worn by the Zulu women. The Zulu attire typically consists of a isidwaba (a beaded skirt), umqhele (a headband), and a beaded necklace. Zulu women often wear these garments during ceremonies such as weddings or cultural festivals. The attire is complemented with beadwork, which is a significant aspect of Zulu culture. Beads in different colors and patterns represent various meanings, such as marital status or social position.
Another well-known traditional dress comes from the Xhosa community. The Xhosa women are known for their elaborate iduku headscarves, often paired with a brightly colored umqhwebo (a large, flowing dress). The Xhosa also make extensive use of beadwork, and their dresses are often adorned with intricate patterns, which carry symbolic meanings. The Xhosa attire is worn during important ceremonies, including initiation rituals and weddings.
The Ndebele women are famous for their striking clothing, often brightly colored with geometric patterns. Ndebele women wear iziqu (aprons) and izipho (beaded necklaces) that symbolize their status and role in society. Their dresses are not just functional but are also a form of self-expression, with the bold patterns representing beauty and strength.
South African traditional dresses, regardless of the community, emphasize beauty, pride, and identity. Ghana Rubber Estates Limited (GREL) faces one of its factories’ potential shutdowns due to severe encroachment on its plantation by illegal mining activities.
The Corporate Affairs Manager-GREL, Perry Acheampong, laments that “we cannot access parts of the plantation”. Once the land is taken over the trees are destroyed, leading to a loss in production,
Describing the situation to this Paper’s Western Region correspondent, Acheampong noted that illegal mining activity is threatening the company’s operations and sustainability.
GREL operates two factories in the Western Region with a combined capacity of 20 tonnes per hour. Other processing factories include NARUBIZ Ltd. (1 tonne per hour), Rubber Plantations Ghana Ltd. (RPGL) (0.8 tonnes per hour) and APEX Rubber Processing (1 tonne per hour).
Additionally, the company is facing a water crisis as all nearby water sources have been polluted by illegal mining activities.
“We use a lot of water at the factory but illegal mining has polluted our water sources, making it unusable for operations. At one point, we had to temporarily shut down the factory due to this issue. If it persists, we may be forced to close one of our factories, which employs 600 direct staff,” said Acheampong.
His concerns raise the urgent need for stakeholders in the sector to develop new strategies for addressing the illegal mining issue and prevent the factory from collapsing. GREL is one of the country’s largest agribusinesses, playing a crucial role in job creation and economic growth.
Currently, the company has 13,093 hectares of land planted with rubber. A total of 9,555 hectares are under-tapping.
In 2022, exports of Technically Specified Rubber – processed natural rubber graded for industrial use—and natural rubber sheets generated approximately US$ 131.3 million, according to data from the Ghana Export Promotion Authority.
The state holds a 26.75 per cent stake in GREL’s operations and, in addition to statutory payments, the company also pays dividends.
From the foregoing, it is imperative that the state has an interest in protecting this vital agri-business concern which contributes to the growth of the economy. There is a renewed call to tackle the illegal menace and GREL’s instance illustrates why this administration cannot rest on its oars.

Convenor of the Indigenous Freight Forwarders, Dr. Godfred Mawuli Tettey, has called for calm among National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in Tema and Ashaiman who are expressing dissatisfaction with recent appointments by President John Dramani Mahama. The discontent primarily revolves around the selection of Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono as the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
President Mahama appointed Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono, a distinguished military officer and legal professional, to the GPHA position on February 7, 2025. Prior to this appointment, Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono served as the Deputy Commandant of the National College of Defence Studies at Burma Camp, Accra.
Some NDC supporters in Tema and Ashaiman have voiced concerns that appointing an ex-military officer may not align with the needs of the GPHA. Additionally, there is a sentiment that the President overlooked qualified local candidates from Tema, despite the region’s significant support for the NDC in the recent elections.
In response, Godfred Mawuli Tettey emphasized the importance of patience, noting that the current appointments are on an acting basis. He stated, “This is a time for cool heads to prevail, to enable the President to concentrate on the tasks ahead instead of distractions that can cause hatred and mockery to the new government.”
Tettey further urged the new appointee to be mindful of public scrutiny. “Eyes are watching them to show proof of their ability to fulfill the vision of the NDC in making the port community work again,” he added.
President Mahama has recently appointed heads to key institutions such as the Ghana Shippers Authority, the Ghana Maritime Authority, and the GPHA, all of which play crucial roles in the economy and the livelihoods of the people of Tema.
As the new appointees assume their roles, stakeholders are encouraged to support them in achieving the administration’s objectives for the maritime sector.
