The Ghana Police Service has arrested four persons in connection with the killing of a Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor at Aflao in the Volta Region.
In a statement released by the Volta Regional Police Command on May 12, 2025, the police indicated that the arrests followed a joint intelligence-led operation conducted on May 10, 2025.
The operation involved the Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPD), the Police SWAT Unit, the Operation Motherland Taskforce, and XCTION NOW, a local neigbourhood watch group.
“On May 10, 2025, between 1:00 and 00:00 hours, the Volta Regional Police Intelligence Department, in collaboration with partner units, arrested four suspects allegedly involved in the robbery and killing of a mobile money vendor in Aliba on April 18, 2025,” the statement noted.
The suspects, Michael Scworm, 34; Kortu Aghoubi, 43; Azua Aplaqib, 56; and Usulub Ouyeto, 22; a Nigerian national are currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.
The incident occurred on the evening of April 28, 2025, at around 6:15 PM., when about five armed men opened fire on Christopher Ahordo, a Mobile Money vendor, at Gbagblakope, near the Diamond Cement factory.

Frimpong Manso is the coach of Ghana’s U-17 national team
Head coach of Ghana’s U-17 national team, Frimpong Manso, has highlighted a growing trend in youth football development across the country, pointing to a noticeable rise in young players aspiring to become wingers, largely influenced by global football icons like Lionel Messi.
Speaking in an interview on Kessben TV, the experienced coach explained how recent scouting efforts have shown a clear shift in player profiles coming through the system.
“Most of the players we are getting through scouting are wingers. In the past, we used to see more midfielders coming through, but now the trend has changed,” Manso stated.
He attributed this change partly to the global appeal and influence of modern attacking stars.
“The influence of Messi and others has made playing on the wings more attractive to young talents,” he added.
While the emergence of exciting attacking prospects is a positive sign, Manso cautioned against neglecting the other key positions necessary for building a balanced and competitive team.
“We must make sure that in our quest to nurture these wingers, we don’t neglect the need to develop quality midfielders, defenders, and goalkeepers,” he warned.
As the Black Starlets gear up for upcoming competitions, Manso remains confident in the talent pool but called for sustained investment in grassroots development and technical training to maintain Ghana’s long-standing reputation for producing well-rounded footballers.

Former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kweku Ansa-Asare, has raised serious constitutional concerns over what he describes as a potential “power vacuum” in the country due to the simultaneous absence of the President, Vice President, and the Speaker of Parliament from Ghana, without the proper activation of presidential succession protocols.
He made the statement during an interview on Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, May 13, in reaction to growing national concerns following the Minority Caucus’s strong condemnation of what they deem a blatant violation of the 1992 Constitution.
“If the president is absent and the vice president we all know is not well, and therefore she is not performing the functions assigned under the constitution and the speaker is also absent, then the acting Chief Justice is supposed to be sworn in to perform the function of the presidency, so if that has not been done then one can say that legitimately that there is a power vacuum,” Ansa-Asare said.
His comment comes on the heels of a press statement issued by the Minority Caucus on Monday, May 12, 2025, in which they criticised the government for neglecting constitutional procedures.
The Minority pointed out that Article 60 of the 1992 Constitution stipulates that when both the President and the Vice President are unable to perform their duties, the Speaker of Parliament should be sworn in to act as President.
In cases where the Speaker is also unavailable, further constitutional arrangements must be triggered to avoid any leadership void.
However, Ansa-Asare emphasised that without adherence to the constitutional succession plan, the country is exposed to a legitimacy crisis in the executive arm of government.
The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the government’s intention to establish a new public university dedicated to health, agriculture, and life sciences in Kintampo, located in the Bono East Region.
The proposed institution will serve the broader Bono Region and contribute significantly to Ghana’s national strategy for agricultural development.
This announcement was made during the official inauguration of the Governing Council of the S.D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies in Wa.
According to the Minister, the Ministry of Education is in the final stages of preparing a bill that will be presented to Parliament to provide the legal framework for the establishment of the University of Health, Agriculture and Life Sciences, expected to focus on agricultural innovation, life sciences and rural development, with the overarching aim of enhancing Ghana’s food security and promoting sustainable development.
The Minister reiterated the President’s commitment to ensuring that each of Ghana’s 16 regions hosts a public university.
“It is the desire of the government that every region of Ghana will be host to one higher education institution of learning. It is the dream and desire of President Mahama that in each region there will be an established university, but we have to begin somewhere, and we have begun somewhat in getting that done,” he stated
“One of the new universities that I will lay a bill in Parliament for will be the University of Health, Agriculture and Life Sciences at Kintampo to serve the Bono Region. I intend to table the bill in Parliament as soon as Parliament reconvenes,” he announced.
In addition to unveiling plans for the new university, the Minister also revealed the Government’s intention to revert the names of certain public universities that were changed under the previous administration. He emphasised that this policy is aimed at restoring the historical identities of these institutions and reaffirming their foundational missions.
“I’ve heard people, some very critical of us, saying, ‘Why did we announce that the names of the universities will change?’ Yes, it will change; that’s the policy decision of the government, and we intend to get the bill into parliament for the names to change to reflect the historical names of those institutions,” the Minister explained.
“It’s not to say that we do not appreciate the sacrifices and contributions of those individuals the institutions were named after. If I were to be very political, I would have just said that President Akufo-Addo was busy naming universities he didn’t build, but I will not say that,” he clarified
The Minister gave his assurance that the bill would be tabled in Parliament promptly upon its return from recess.

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Ekumfi is former GIIF Board Chair
The Office of the Attorney General has filed charges against former Minister of Education, Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, and one Solomon Asamoah over their involvements in the Accra Sky Train project.
The filing of the charges comes after the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, indicated that both Asamoah and Prof Ameyaw-Ekumfi will face charges, with some board members offering to testify as prosecution witnesses.
He stated that it has been established that the $2 million payment made by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund was unauthorised, with only former CEO Solomon Asamoah and former Board Chairman, Professor Ameyaw-Ekumfi, aware of and involved in the transaction.
“In respect of the Skytrain matter, we have completed investigations and will be filing charges hopefully next week. We have established that the two million United States dollars (US$2,000,000.00) paid by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund was paid without board approval.
“The only persons who knew and acted on the payment were the former CEO, Mr Solomon Asamoah, and the former Board Chairman, Professor Ameyaw-Ekumfi. Both will be charged next week. Some of the board members have offered to testify as witnesses for the prosecution and I am considering their offers,” the AG said while briefing the media at a recent press briefing.
A portion of the charge sheet sighted by GhanaWeb showed that at least two charges had been slapped on the two men, including “Conspiracy to commit a crime” and “Wilfully causing financial loss to the Republic.”

play videoKwabena Adu-Boahene is former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau
The embattled former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has reportedly been arrested for another crime.
The announcement of his arrest was made by his lawyer, Sammuel Atta Akyea, during court proceedings on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Speaking to the media after court proceedings on Tuesday, Atta Akyea, a former Member of Parliament for Akyem Abuakwa South, said his client was arrested again after his release on Tuesday, after serving his seven-day remand in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
He indicated that the arrest was in relation to a different crime that had to do with National Security providing internet services to Ghana Water Limited.
It can be recalled that the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akurutinga Ayine, disclosed that ongoing investigations have uncovered yet another fraudulent scheme involving Adu-Boahene.
It has been revealed that Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has been making monthly payments of at least GH¢1.3 million into the private accounts of Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau.
Speaking at a press briefing on April 30, 2025, the Attorney General said that these payments were disguised as part of an internet provision contract with the National Signals Bureau (NSB), raising serious concerns about the misuse of public funds.
Dr Ayine further disclosed that the payments had been occurring for several months, with no clear evidence linking the transfers to any legitimate services provided by Kwabena Adu-Boahene or the NSB.
He stated that his office is currently scrutinising the details of the contract, which appears to have been fabricated to conceal the illicit payments.
The Attorney General has already charged Adu-Boahene with 11 offences for allegedly transferring GH¢49 million (approximately $7 million) from the bureau’s account to his personal account, among other crimes.
“In his capacity as Director of the National Signals Bureau, Mr Adu-Boahene on 30 January, 2020, signed a contract on behalf of the Government of Ghana and the National Security on one hand, and on the other hand, an Israeli company named RLC Holdings Limited. The contract was for the purchase of a cyber defence system software at a price of $7 million,” the Attorney General said.
Providing further details, Dr Ayine disclosed that just days after signing the agreement, Adu-Boahene initiated a suspicious transaction.
“On 6 February, 2020, he then transferred an initial amount of GH¢27,100,000 from the National Signals Bureau account at Fidelity Bank to a private BNC account at UMB. Official documentation on the transfer reveals that the amount was for the payment of cyber defence system software. He transferred the money to his private company,” he told the media.
According to Dr Ayine, investigations further uncovered that the former NSB boss allegedly channeled the funds not only into his personal account but also into accounts belonging to his wife.

The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has filed a defamation lawsuit against his colleague, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South, over a social media post he claims has severely damaged his reputation.
The legal action follows a post made by Rev. Ntim Fordjour on May 8, 2025, via the platform X (formerly Twitter), in which he alleged that Mr. Dafeamekpor—who also serves as the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament—acted as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Subsidiary Legislation during a period when embattled former National Signals Bureau boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, allegedly paid GH¢360,000 to the committee to help facilitate the passage of a Legislative Instrument (L.I.).
Kwabena Adu-Boahene, in his defence against claims that he fraudulently misappropriated GH¢49.1 million, explained that allowances of GH¢960,000 and GH¢309,000 were paid to MPs on the Defence and Interior Committee and the Subsidiary Legislation Committee, respectively, during the passage of the NSB Act and its accompanying Legislative Instrument.
In the same post, Rev. Fordjour called for a full-scale investigation involving Mr. Dafeamekpor and others, claiming that once a probe begins, the NDC and all individuals implicated in the alleged misappropriation would be held accountable.
In response, Mr. Dafeamekpor filed a statement of claim, categorically denying the allegations and describing the post as “false, malicious, and defamatory.”
“The Plaintiff has further suffered economic harm, loss of business, disruption to his professional activities, and extreme emotional distress as a result of the widespread dissemination and continuous accessibility of the defamatory statements,” the suit reads.
“The Plaintiff says that the defamatory statements made by the Defendant and published on ‘X’ formerly ‘Twitter’ are untrue and same was made with calculated malice, aforethought in order to paint the plaintiff as a person who is corrupt and accepts bribes to pass Legislations of Parliament.”
Mr. Dafeamekpor is seeking a retraction and public apology from Rev. Fordjour, along with an interlocutory injunction to restrain the MP and his associates from making or sharing further statements pending the outcome of the case.
“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from making or in any other way, causing to be published any further defamatory statements about the Plaintiff. An order directed at the Defendant to retract the said defamatory statement made about the Plaintiff and posted online,” the suit demands.
The case arises amidst ongoing legal proceedings against Kwabena Adu-Boahene, who is facing charges of stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state. The matter has been adjourned to May 26 for a case management conference.

A Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah-Bonsu, has cautioned party members against the incessant attacks on his person, after he publicly stated his views on Sammy Gyamfi’s dollar gift to Agradaa.
Mr. Bempah-Bonsu said he can no longer tolerate the insults and attacks on his personality by members of the NPP while expressing his views on a national discussion.
Ghana’s President, John Mahama, on Tuesday urged global firms to ramp up crude oil production in the West African nation before the global shift to renewable energy renders the resource worthless.
He warned that Ghana risks seeing its oil resources stuck in the ground if drilling is not fast-tracked while demand still exists.
Many countries have pledged to reduce their use of oil and gas to meet international targets for reducing carbon emissions that drive deadly climate change.
“Oil is in transition. Everybody who has any assets should be pumping like there’s no tomorrow,” Mahama told the Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
“I will lay a red carpet to anybody who wants to drill and pump oil because in the next decade or two, the world would have made a transition to renewables.”
Mahama, who took office in January, accused the previous government of Nana Akufo-Addo of stalling oil exploration through regulatory bottlenecks and disputes with key investors such as British-based company Tullow and ENI of Italy.
He said the sector suffered “a lot of disinvestment” as the previous government had “squabbles” with Tullow.
Ghana’s petroleum sector has seen a steady decline in output, according to the statutory body that monitors petroleum revenues in Ghana, the Public Interest and Accountability Committee.
It said crude oil production dropped to 48.25 million barrels in 2023 from 71.44 million in 2019 largely due to reduced investment in new wells.
Mahama blamed regulatory uncertainty for the exodus of some key players.
“ENI was held in contempt and they had to move all their expatriate management to Cote d’Ivoire,” he noted, adding that now the company was “back and they are drilling again”.
Ghana’s major offshore oil assets include the Jubilee Field, operated by Tullow Oil, as well as the TEN and Sankofa fields, with players including Kosmos Energy, PetroSA, and the state-owned GNPC.
While calling for aggressive oil drilling, Mahama stressed Ghana must not abandon its clean energy goals.
He said the country’s Renewable Energy Act required that “at least 10 percent of our energy mix should come from renewable sources.”
Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Chair of the Independent Constitutional Bodies Committee, Mahama Ayariga, has expressed the committee’s commitment to ensuring legislation is passed to combat disinformation, which he described as a threat to Ghana’s democracy.
He expressed concern about the menace of disinformation, which also contributed to the lingering ethnic conflicts in Bawku and its enclave.
“Cybersecurity, information management, and disinformation are a result of some of these that he’s going to track, these things fuel the Bawku conflict.
“We should work to have at least the Traffic Bill modelled along what we have experienced in Europe, America, and all other countries. And let us as Parliament, push it and try and get our executives on board to speed up the process of enacting the legislation, that is a major thing we should seek to achieve as a committee,” he said.

Accra, May 13, GNA – The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has launched a pioneering training course on Youth in Leadership and Peacebuilding, aimed at equipping young Africans with the skills to drive sustainable peace and development across the continent.
The initiative, supported by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), seeks to challenge negative stereotypes of youth in conflict zones and empower them as key agents of change.
Africa, with over 75 per cent of its population under the age of 30, is the most youthful continent in the world.
While young people possess the energy, creativity, and perspectives to drive development, they continue to face barriers such as limited access to education, unemployment, economic hardships, and systemic exclusion from leadership.
These factors not only hinder their contributions but also expose youth to vulnerability, often making them active agents in conflict situations including electoral violence and cybercrime.
Recognising this dual reality, KAIPTC, through Women, Youth, Peace and Security Institute (WYPSI), initiated the five-day specialised training to harness the positive potential of the continent’s youth.
The programme targets youth leaders and activist involved in governance, peacebuilding and community development initiatives, youth-led and youth-focused civil society organizations, members of youth-focused NGOs and grassroots movements working on conflict resolution, human rights and advocacy.
Participants will engage in interactive sessions, conflict resolution simulations, and leadership exercises designed to strengthen their ability to mediate disputes and advocate for inclusive governance
Air Commodore David Anetey Akrong, Commandant of KAIPTC, in a speech read on his behalf by Mrs. Sylvia Abra Nutsukpui, Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Acting Director of WYPSI, highlighted the urgency of nurturing young leaders in a world grappling with division and conflict.
She highlighted the gathering as an opportunity to inspire and equip future leaders who will promote peace, resilience, and unity within their communities and beyond.
Mrs Nutsukpui noted that the training was developed following extensive stakeholder consultations in Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Senegal, and Ghana, ensuring that the curriculum addresses real-world challenges.
These engagements, followed by a validation symposium and a Learning Design and Development workshop, helped shape the course content to directly address the real-world challenges faced by youth leaders and influencers.
“This course is expected to solve problems and your feedback as the first cohort will be invaluable in refining this programme for future leaders,” she said.
She underscored the importance of equipping young leaders with the tools to champion peace, resilience, and social cohesion in their communities and beyond.
The WYPSI Director acknowledged that although the participants were young, many of them were already assuming leadership roles in their respective organisations.
Their participation, he said, symbolized hope in a world increasingly challenged by conflict and division.
“You are the change-makers of today,” she noted, adding that their ability to influence peers, engage in constructive dialogue, and spark action would be essential in driving long-term peace.
She further encouraged participants to take full advantage of the sessions, stressing the importance of collaboration, reflection, and mutual learning.
The Commandant also expressed gratitude to the SIDA for their financial and strategic support in making the training possible, describing the partnership as a demonstration of a shared commitment to empowering youth to make meaningful contributions to peace and development across the continent.
Dr. Fiifi Adu-Afful, a consultant on the course, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, emphasized the need to move beyond the perception of young people as mere perpetrators of violence.
He said, “oftentimes, we think young people are spoilers, used for all kinds of nefarious activities. But the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 paved the way for us to understand the important role youth play in peacebuilding and fashion out ways to engage them.”
Resolution 2250, adopted in 2015, recognizes the critical role of youth in conflict prevention and resolution, urging greater inclusion in decision-making processes.
Dr. Adu-Afful therefore stressed that empowering young leaders was essential for fostering long-term stability in Africa.
Quoting former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the he reminded participants: “A peaceful world is a prosperous world” and urged them to seize the opportunity to become ambassadors of peace in their respective countries.
Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has urged President John Dramani Mahama not to punish the Acting Chief Executive of the Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, for gifting dollars to popular former fetish priestess now turned evangelist, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem and monitored by GhanaWeb on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, he acknowledged the public outrage surrounding the matter but indicated that the incident is being blown out of proportion for political reasons.
“Absolutely, there should be no punishment, but it should be a lesson to all of us, and Sammy Gyamfi should know that his foes are many because of how he demolished the bad governance of the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government with his analysis and work.
“The people trying to score political points must exercise restraint. I know there are attempts to exaggerate the matter by some people with a political agenda. Some individuals are peeved, particularly NDC foot soldiers, but he cannot settle or give money to everyone,” he stated.
The viral video, which quickly gained traction on social media, drew mixed reactions, with some NDC foot soldiers and political commentators calling for Gyamfi’s resignation or removal.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has stated that the government has taken into account concerns raised about the public regarding the recent conduct of Sammy Gyamfi.

Accra, May 13, GNA – Ghana is set to receive a wave of investment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following the official visit of Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to the Gulf nation.
Mr Ablakwa, during the two-day working visit, engaged in high-level meetings with senior UAE government officials and key industry leaders, securing concrete commitments from Emirati companies to invest in Ghana’s priority sectors.
Mr Ablakwa was received by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE.
The Ghanaian minister also held strategic discussions with key UAE officials including Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State; Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs; and ministers responsible for foreign trade and investment.
The investment drive, a central part of the Minister’s mission, aligns with President John Mahama’s economic recovery agenda themed “Ghana is Open for Business Again.”
The UAE private sector expressed keen interest in Ghana’s emerging opportunities, particularly in renewable energy, artificial intelligence, education, healthcare, aviation, and defense.
Several UAE companies are expected in Ghana within the coming weeks to begin due diligence and initiate projects, marking a significant post-visit development.
The delegation’s interest in renewable energy comes at a time when Ghana is diversifying its energy mix to improve reliability and sustainability.
Mr Ablakwa, in a social media post, noted that discussions touched on the development of Ghana’s aviation sector.
In a major boost for youth employment, the Minister disclosed that agreements were reached in principle to facilitate large-scale labour export to the UAE.
This initiative is expected to create thousands of jobs for skilled Ghanaian workers in various fields.
The implementation is contingent on the finalization of the ongoing Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries.
The Foreign Minister described the outcome of the visit as a “milestone in Ghana’s international economic diplomacy,” and thanked the UAE government and Ghana’s diplomatic team for their support in securing the investment pledges.
The post-visit engagements will now focus on fast-tracking investment frameworks and ensuring a smooth entry for UAE businesses into the Ghanaian market.
Award-winning Afrobeats artiste, KiDi, has shared how he deals with online trolls, describing them as “sad people” projecting their own unhappiness onto others.
In a recent conversation on the Talk No Dey Cook Rice podcast, the “Lomo Lomo” hitmaker shared that his experiences with trolls has given him a tough skin, especially when he realised that such individuals are struggling with their own lives.
“Once I began to understand that I’ll never please everybody, life became easier.
“Even if I give someone 1 million, they’ll ask why it wasn’t 2 million. Some people are just unhappy, they hate themselves and project that onto others,” he shared.
According to KiDi, these internet trolls are having their internal battles and resort to making negative comments on celebrities to feel better.
“There are people out there who will come onto social media and say something to you — it’s not personal. They woke up this morning, they’ve not eaten. You come and post, ‘Hey, stream my music,’ and they’ll respond, ‘Look at this kwasia, why should I stream your music?’ It’s not personal. He’s angry inside about something happening in his personal life and is just projecting it onto me,” he shared.

play videoKwabena Adu-Boahene (L) and his lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea (R)
Samuel Atta Akyea, counsel for the embattled former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has hinted that his client may be compelled to disclose classified national security information in order to defend himself in court over allegations of a $7 million fraud involving a cybersecurity contract.
Addressing journalists following Adu Boahene’s rearrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Samuel Atta Akyea expressed concern over what he described as unfair treatment of a man who had served the national interest.
He noted that Adu Boahene is now facing fresh charges related to services provided by the NSB to the Ghana Water Company Limited, involving internet connectivity and technological support.
“It’s unfair, when push comes to shove, he (Adu Boahene) will divulge other national security secrets to defend himself. He has no choice. Why should a man be found guilty when he’s innocent, and when he’s dealing with national security matters?” he quizzed.
The lawyer questioned the apparent lack of coordination between national security agencies and EOCO, suggesting that matters of this sensitivity should have prompted internal consultations rather than criminal prosecution.
“I thought National Security would look into these matters and probably have a good conversation with EOCO, it’s a very dangerous path we’re treading”, he stated.
Atta Akyea warned that the ongoing case may deter others from serving in sensitive state institutions.
“Nobody will be ready to serve national security if serving national security leads you to court,” he added.
Attorney-General Dr Dominic Ayine has charged Adu Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei Boateng, and two others, Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited with 11 counts, including stealing, money laundering, defrauding by false pretenses, and willfully causing financial loss to the state.
According to court documents filed on April 30, Adu Boahene, who supervised key national security infrastructure and managed contracts with foreign firms, is alleged to have signed a deal with Israeli firm ISC Holdings Limited to procure cyber defence software for $7 million.
He is accused of transferring approximately GHS 49 million from NSB accounts into his personal accounts under the guise of executing that contract.
Meanwhile, the Accra High Court has directed the prosecution team in the ongoing criminal trial to file all witness statements by May 26, 2025.
The High Court has also reinstated his bail conditions.

According to the Central Bank, on July 19, 2025, the cedi will mark 60 years as Ghana’s sole legal tender.
It noted that since its issuance on July 19, 1965, to replace the Ghanaian pound as the sole legal tender in Ghana, the cedi has remained a strong symbol of Ghana’s economic sovereignty and development.
In a communique to announce the anniversary, the bank said, “To adapt to the changing demands of the Ghanaian economy, the Cedi has evolved through several modifications in form and policy direction, over the last 60 years. Ghana’s tenacity, innovation and quest for economic stability are all embodied in the Cedi’s reforms, from the first note and coins to the safe currency we use today.”

The Essipong (L) and Cape Coast (R) stadiums are to be revived
The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reviving Ghana’s crumbling sports infrastructure, with specific focus on the Cape Coast and Essipong Sports Stadiums.
Speaking in an interview with Original TV, Ankrah acknowledged the urgent need for major upgrades at both venues, which have struggled from years of neglect and lack of maintenance.
“We have a lot of work to do. Cape Coast Stadium is not in the best shape; the grass is very bad but we are working hard to fix it,” he stated.
The Cape Coast Stadium, once a regular venue for the national team, has not hosted an international fixture since Ghana’s 1-0 win over South Africa in 2021.
Its failure to meet CAF licensing requirements led to Ghana being temporarily barred from using it as a venue for international games.
Meanwhile, the Essipong Sports Stadium, which has not seen renovation since it was built for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, has suffered significant deterioration.
Roofing systems have collapsed, the steel framework has corroded, and utilities like electricity are non-existent. But Ankrah is optimistic that the necessary repairs can get the stadium to its old state.
“We can upgrade the Essipong Stadium, but we need to invest a lot of money in it. I went there last month, the roof of the stadium is almost done, and it looks good, but there is no electricity there. Also, there’s encroachment of lands close to the stadium,” Ankrah added.
Despite a $3 million renovation promise made in 2020 by then Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, progress at Essipong has stalled, adding to growing concerns over Ghana’s preparedness to host major sporting events.
In a parallel move, new Minister for Sports and Recreation in the Mahama administration, Kofi Adams, has proposed that the Cape Coast Stadium be reserved exclusively for the Black Stars to prevent further wear and allow focused upgrades.
Ankrah emphasised that while challenges are steep, the government is determined to bring the country’s sports facilities back up to CAF and FIFA standards.

Even though the chicken is not blamed for the crime committed by the snake, Nana Agradaa has stated that the nose equally does not stand unconcerned when the eyes are crying.
In her feud with former staunch member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hopeson Ardoye, that has escalated to an extremely worrisome level, Ghanaian fetish priest turned woman of God, Nana Agradaa also known as Evangelist Tupac has dragged the wife, Empress Gifty.
A mortician, identified as “Akok) Specs” has confirmed rumors that Ghanaian pastors approach them to buy human parts from them.
“Akok) Specs”, as he is affectionately called made the shocking disclosure during an interview with Razak Ghana on Razak Ghana TV, stating that morticians who sell dead bodies and dead human parts are those that have untutored minds about the work they do.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has set an ambitious target to raise at least GH¢360 billion in tax revenue by the end of 2028 as part of its medium-term strategy to boost domestic revenue mobilisation and increase the country’s tax-to-GDP ratio.
Acting Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Sarpong, made this known during an X-Space discussion with the media, on the theme, “Resetting Ghana’s Revenue Mobilisation”.
“This year, we’re targeting GH¢ 200 billion in tax revenue, up from GH¢ 153 billion in 2024. But in the medium term, by 2028, we aim to reach a minimum of GH¢ 360 billion,” Mr Sarpong stated.
The “360 by 28” campaign, as described by the acting Commissioner-General, seeks to more than double Ghana’s 2024 tax revenue performance.
Mr Sarpong noted that achieving this target would move Ghana’s tax-to-GDP ratio from the current 13.8 per cent to between 17 per cent and 18 per cent by 2028.
Reforms
Mr Sarpong attributed recent improvements in tax mobilisation – averaging growth rates between 25 per cent and 30 per cent from 2020 to 2024 – to ongoing reforms within the authority; he, however, emphasised the need to “look within” and intensify efforts to broaden the tax base.
Outlining key strategies to reach the 2028 target, the acting Commissioner-General cited digitalisation and data analytics as critical enablers.
“We are in a digital and automated world, and GRA must not be left behind in terms of technological transformation. That is why we’re digitising tax administration to reach more taxpayers, including those outside the net,” he said.
Mr Sarpong highlighted ongoing data system integrations with institutions such as the Registrar of Companies and SSNIT, leveraging the Ghana Card as a unified tax identification tool to enhance compliance.
Data analytics
“Through data analytics and integrations with other institutions, we can now identify registered businesses and individuals and match their activities with tax obligations. The same goes for the informal sector, which we are targeting through mobile money transactions and other data points,” he added.
While acknowledging the revenue potential of Ghana’s large informal sector, Mr Sarpong stressed the importance of building a taxpayer partnership rooted in trust, integrity, and professionalism.
“Taxpayers are our customers, and we must build public trust and confidence in the tax system. When that happens, we can mobilise the needed revenue to support the nation’s reset agenda,” he concluded.
The GRA’s revenue drive aligns with broader economic objectives set out by the government and is expected to play a key role in achieving fiscal stability and supporting national development.
Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Agribusines, Sampson Ahi
Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Agribusines, Sampson Ahi, has come to the defense of Sammy Gyamfi, following public criticism over a viral video showing him handing US dollar notes to evangelist Mama Pat also known as Nana Agradaa.
Addressing the issue, Member of Parliament for Bodi and a leading figure in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ahi emphasised that Gyamfi’s action was a personal gesture and did not involve any misuse of state funds.
In an interview with Piesie Okrah on Power FM’s Dwaboase morning show, the minister stated, “Sammy Gyamfi dashed his own money to Agradaa and not state funds.”
“I believe the hardworking young man is yet to receive his first salary.”
Ahi further argued that calls for Gyamfi’s suspension or resignation are unwarranted, noting that the CEO of GOLDBOD has acknowledged the lapse in judgment and expressed remorse.
“He has apologized and shown contrition. We should allow the party’s internal mechanisms to address the matter appropriately,” Ahi added.
The incident has generated public discourse, with various stakeholders calling for appropriate actions to uphold the standards expected of public officeholders.
Minority’s Concerns
At a press conference in Accra on Monday, May 12, 2025, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), represented by MP for Walewale and a member of the Finance Committee Dr Kabiru Tia Mahama, criticised Sammy Gyamfi for openly displaying and giving out U.S. dollars.
The main opposition party described his actions as a clear violation of the recently launched Code of Conduct for Political Appointees and called for his dismissal or suspension as acting CEO of the Ghana GOLDBOD.
But Sampson Ahi, an experienced legislator, has condemned the Minority over the press conference, saying their demands are dead on arrival.
The Minority’s press conference on Sammy Gyamfi is empty. Their act was borne out of sheer hatred,” he noted. “I believe they called the press out of sheer hatred, and I’ll say they are hypocrites.”
He quizzed, “Which politician in this country does not give money to the needy?”
“We [MPs] have been sharing money with our constituents in need all the time. The Minority MPs do the same too, and there’s nothing wrong with that, so I’m surprised our opponents are calling for Sammy Gyamfi’s head when they do the same for people who are always in need.”
Commending Mr Gyamfi for the roles he played as a main spokesperson for the NDC in the run up to the 2024 elections, the MP stated that he [Gyamfi] raised funds on his own to support every constituency with logistics.
“Are they [Minority members] saying that Sammy Gyamfi, who donated 276 motorbikes to the NDC in all the constituencies before the 2024 elections, is not financially strong to support someone with $800?” he questioned in Akan.
Sampson Ahi went on to urge Ghanaians to ignore the Minority and rather focus on the achievements of the new government.
“The new government is doing so well to fix the economy and create jobs for the unemployed youth. Within this short time that we came to power, we have stabilised the cedi and are doing a lot to ensure that the economy is brought back on track. That is what Ghanaians should focus on,” he added.

Accra, May 13, GNA – The Sika African Tourism Art and Culture Club (SATACC) has welcomed a group of African diasporans returning to Ghana for the first time in an emotional ceremony.
The event celebrated their reconnection with their ancestral homeland.
With traditional drums and colourful displays of Ghanaian heritage, the ceremony began with libation pouring to honour ancestors and seek spiritual guidance.
A prayer was offered to “Grant them wisdom, strength, and prosperity as they reconnect with their roots. Make them walk in the paths of our forefathers, honouring our traditions and culture.”
The group was then purified with sacred herbs and water, cleansing them of negative energies before their initiation into the homeland.
Adepa Sika Onyamekese, Chief Executive Officer of SATACC, noting the significance of the event, said Ghana continued to strengthen ties with the African diaspora and promote cultural tourism.
“It comes in the spirit of the ‘Year of Return’ initiative and its successors, which have welcomed thousands of diasporans seeking to reconnect with their heritage.
“Our brothers and sisters from the diaspora are not visitors; they are family. This is their land, their heritage, and their story. We are honoured to stand with them as they reclaim their place in the African narrative.”
Mr Onyamekese noted that the group was also in Ghana for discussions on the upcoming Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC).
A representative from the group acknowledged their ancestral ties, pledging to remember their roots and share Ghana’s cultural heritage globally.

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has tasked the newly-constituted Western Regional Lands Commission Board to reduce the turnaround time for land registrations to just 30 working days.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, and monitored by GhanaWeb on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, he stressed the need for faster, more accessible and decentralised land administration systems.
“Reduce land registration turnaround time and, in your particular case, I want you to limit it to 30 working days. Also, lower the cost of land services by making them accessible at the district level,” he remarked.
He questioned the concentration of services in the regional capital, Takoradi, urging the board to work towards decentralisation.
“What is the point in bringing everybody to Takoradi? We must decentralise land services, and at the end of your tenure, your performance will be evaluated based on how effectively you help the government implement this land service decentralisation,” he stated.
Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah also entreated the board to intensify the fight against encroachment of public lands.
“Combat encroachment on public lands, including open spaces, nature reserves, wetlands and coastal areas. Prevent the unlawful conversion of school lands to family lands where it contradicts customer law.
“Addressing this issue will require proactive strategies and diligence and I have no doubt that you are equal to the tax. The public and the government have high expectations, especially as you owe out your projects to revive the economy and create jobs for our young people. Since land is the foundation for these initiatives, your role is very critical,” he added.

He cited Debrah’s track record as a former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, and his mentorship under Presidents Rawlings, Atta Mills, and Mahama as proof of his readiness for national leadership.

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has been petitioned to investigate allegations of corruption against Samuel Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board.
The petition, submitted by a citizen identified as Eric Dumenu Akatsi, calls on CHRAJ to invoke its powers under Article 218(e) of the 1992 Constitution to probe what the petitioner describes as conduct inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of a public official.
The Office of the Attorney General has filed charges against suspects involved in the $2m Sky Train scandal.
The charges have been filed against the former Board Chair of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi and one Solomon Asamoah.
According to reports the charges brought under Section 23(1) and Section 179A(3)(a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), indicate a $2 million payment made in 2019 to Africa Investor Holdings Limited for the development of an urban Sky Train system in Accra—a project that was never executed.
The Patriotic Action Forum (PAF) has demanded the immediate dismissal of Mr Sammy Gyamfi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, following the emergence of a viral video showing him publicly gifting US dollars to controversial preacher Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
In a press conference held in Accra on 13th May, PAF described Mr Gyamfi’s conduct as “reckless, offensive, and a flagrant betrayal of the public trust.”
The group criticised President John Dramani Mahama’s administration for tolerating such displays of “opulence and arrogance” at a time when many Ghanaians are grappling with severe economic hardship.
“Barely four months into his tenure, Mr Sammy Gyamfi is already at the centre of a shameful new culture,” said one of the convenors, David Prah.
“The very man who has built a reputation attacking public servants is now reportedly spending a staggering $10,000 (approximately GHS 140,000) on fuel for a luxury Lexus V8—not in service of the state, nor in response to any national crisis, but merely to chauffeur a former fetish priestess turned evangelist,” he added.
PAF accused the current administration of betraying its “Reset Ghana” agenda, which, according to the group, has instead resulted in worsening power cuts (dumsor), soaring prices of essential goods, and widespread job losses in the public sector.
“Ghanaians are being punished for placing their trust in what has proven to be a deceptive ‘Reset’ agenda,” said another convenor, Adamu Musa Raha.
PAF further condemned Mr Gyamfi’s conduct as a “grotesque abuse of office” and “a vulgar insult to the intelligence and suffering of ordinary citizens,” many of whom are struggling to afford basic necessities such as cement or utility bills.
The group also highlighted what it described as Mr Gyamfi’s hypocrisy, citing his past criticisms of figures such as former Minister Cecilia Dapaah and Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. “There is a saying: ‘He who seeks equity must come with clean hands.’ Clearly, Mr Gyamfi’s hands are soiled by the very extravagance and impunity he claims to oppose.”
In light of these developments, PAF has called on President Mahama to demonstrate leadership by dismissing Mr Gyamfi or demanding his immediate resignation.
According to the group, the situation represents a litmus test for the newly introduced Code of Conduct for government appointees, which places emphasis on integrity, impartiality, and professionalism.
“Failure to act will only confirm what many Ghanaians already suspect—that the so-called ‘Reset’ is a smokescreen for rewarding party loyalists with public funds,” the Forum warned.
The group has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the President, threatening to initiate legal proceedings to challenge the credibility of the Code of Conduct should Mr Gyamfi remain in office.
“With such blatant waste and impunity, it has become abundantly clear that this administration is more interested in plunder than public service. “The good people of Ghana must not be deceived. Come 2028, we must use the ballot to reject this corrupt, indifferent, and dollar-spraying NDC government once and for all,” the group emphasised.

Ghana and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have taken a significant step in strengthening their bilateral relations following a successful two-day official visit by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to the UAE.
Ablakwa revealed this in a post on his X handle on May 13, 2025.
The visit, which concluded on May 13, 2025, resulted in the signing of an agreement to initiate the first-ever high-level political consultations between the two nations.
According to the minister, he was warmly received by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The two leaders discussed avenues to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including economy, trade, investment, and energy.
Ablakwa added that he held constructive meetings with Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State; Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs; and other key officials where they focused on fostering partnerships that align with Ghana’s national development goals.
“A significant outcome was the signing of an agreement to commence the first ever high-level political consultations in the strategic interest of both countries,” he said.
According to Ablakwa, a notable outcome of the visit was the commitment from UAE companies to explore investment opportunities in Ghana across essential sectors of the economy.
“We obtained commitments from UAE companies who will be arriving in Ghana over the next few weeks to invest in sectors such as renewable energy, AI, education, health, aviation and defense — consistent with President Mahama’s declaration that Ghana is open for business again,” he added.
Additionally, the two countries discussed plans to facilitate the export of skilled Ghanaian labor to the UAE and to collaborate on establishing a new national airline for Ghana.
“Massive job openings in UAE will soon be announced for the Ghanaian youth when we finalize our CEPA negotiations shortly,” he said.
Both nations acknowledged the success of the bilateral engagements, describing them as historic and a significant milestone in Ghana-UAE relations.
Minister Ablakwa expressed gratitude to Ghana’s diplomats and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament for their contributions to the accomplishments of the visit.
The establishment of high-level political consultations and the commitment to mutual investment mark a new chapter in the strategic partnership between Ghana and the UAE, promising enhanced cooperation and shared prosperity for both countries.

Evangelist Nana Agradaa says she will burn down her church to defend Sammy Gyamfi
Evangelist Patricia Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has issued a wild response to the controversy surrounding a viral video in which she was seen receiving dollars from Sammy Gyamfi, the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board.
In a recent live video, Agradaa vowed to burn down her church if Sammy Gyamfi faces any consequences for giving her money.
“If Sammy Gyamfi is at risk of losing his job because he gave me money, I will burn down my church,” she declared.
The Heaven Way Chapel founder also promised to return the money, and even double the amount, to clear Sammy Gyamfi’s name.
According to her, she intends to visit his office with a camera crew to publicly return the funds.
“I will return the $800 and even add more to it. I’ll go to his office with my camera and show all of Ghana that I have returned the money with an extra amount. If it’s because of me, a powerful woman of God, that Sammy Gyamfi is facing backlash, then I will act to make things right,” she stated.
Agradaa added that she sees nothing wrong with Gyamfi’s gesture, insisting that she is also worthy of receiving gifts.
“If Sammy chooses to give me money, I deserve it. But if it’s going to bring him trouble, then I’ll return it. It’s no big deal, I am worth it,” she added.
Addressing the viral footage, Agradaa claimed she was unaware that she was being filmed at the time.
“Someone secretly took the video and shared it online. I didn’t know I was being recorded, that’s why I was seen showing off the money. When I later heard it was trending, I decided to speak up, even though I was advised to stay silent,” she explained.
Meanwhile, the incident has stirred strong reactions online, with many questioning the appropriateness of the exchange between a public official and someone as controversial as Agradaa.

Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer is a player of Hamburg
Hamburger SV are in talks to renew the contract of Ghana international Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer following his standout performances in the 2024/25 season, which helped the club secure a long-awaited return to the German Bundesliga.
Yeboah, 23, has been a key figure for HSV, scoring 14 goals in 32 matches, the second-highest tally for the club this season.
His impressive campaign was capped off with a brilliant brace in a 6-1 demolition of SSV Ulm 1846, sealing promotion with one game to spare.
It marks Hamburg’s return to the top flight for the first time since 2018, ending a seven-year stay in the Bundesliga.
Since joining from Dynamo Dresden in 2022, Yeboah has played over 90 league matches for the club, growing into a vital attacking force.
His speed, versatility, and eye for goal have made him a fan favourite and a key part of coach Steffen Baumgart’s system.
According to reports from Kicker, club officials are eager to tie him down ahead of the 2025/26 campaign to fend off potential interest from other Bundesliga sides.
Yeboah’s rise is, however, yet to catch the eye of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, who has left him out of the team since his second coming.
But with Yeboah’s current form, he looks set to be a crucial asset for both club and country in the years ahead.

People walk in Martyr’s square in Libya’s capital Tripoli on May 10, 2025.
The United Nations mission in Libya called for de-escalation Monday after fighting erupted in the North African nation’s capital.
The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is “alarmed by the unfolding security situation in Tripoli with intense fighting with heavy weaponry in densely populated civilian areas,” it said in a post on X late Monday.
“The Mission calls on all parties to immediately cease fighting and restore calm, and reminds all parties of their obligations to protect civilians at all times,” UNSMIL added.
“Attacks on civilians and civilian objects may amount to war crimes.”
Gunfire was heard in Tripoli as reports emerged that a prominent commander, Abdulghani Kikli of the Support Force Apparatus SSA, one of the capital’s most powerful armed groups, was killed, Reuters reported. The Support Force Apparatus SSA is a state-backed security institution affiliated with the Presidential Council, according to its website.
Libya has been embroiled in a political conflict since long-time dictator Moammar Gaddafi was overthrown in 2011, leading to the emergence of several armed groups.
While a 2020 ceasefire brought some peace, the country remains fragile and divided, with the internationally recognized Government of National Unity (GNU) ruling in Tripoli and the northwest and the Government of National Stability ruling in Benghazi in the east.
Armed clashes have occasionally been reported, with major factions vying for control over Libya’s substantial oil and gas reserves.
Amid reports of violence, the GNU’s health ministry told local hospitals and medical centers in Tripoli to prepare for emergencies, according to a post on its Facebook account.
The GNU’s interior ministry called on citizens in a short statement to stay at home “for their own safety,” according to Reuters.
The University of Tripoli Presidency also announced on Facebook the suspension of all studies, exams, and administrative work until further notice.
The latest instability comes as the Trump administration mulls plans to deport migrants to Libya from the United States. CNN first reported the administration was communicating with Libya to have the country take migrants from the US.
The administration appeared to be moving forward with those plans as recently as Wednesday, when migrants believed to be bound for Libya sat for hours on a bus before abruptly being returned to a detention facility. The White House declined to comment on those flight plans.

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has taken a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of lacking the moral authority to criticise the party over the recent dollar gift incident involving acting Goldbod CEO, Mr Sammy Gyamfi.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, 13 May, Mr Gbande dismissed the NPP’s reaction to the viral video, which captured Mr Gyamfi handing over a cash gift to self-styled preacher Nana Agradaa, describing the opposition’s criticism as hypocritical and self-serving.
“It doesn’t give anybody from the NPP the audacity to sit on TV and want to criticise this matter because they don’t have any moral credibility as far as corruption-related offences are concerned. They themselves represent corruption,” he asserted.
While acknowledging that the incident, which occurred on Saturday, 11 May, has sparked public backlash and raised questions about ethical leadership, Mr Gbande insisted that the NDC would not allow the NPP to weaponise the situation for political gain.
He noted that although the gesture by Mr Gyamfi was not unlawful, it was poorly timed and inappropriate given his public role and the political context.
“At this point, I would like to align myself with a number of reasonable Ghanaians who say, ‘Okay, it should never have happened, it shouldn’t happen again.’ He hasn’t broken the law, but we think that because of where he is, it shouldn’t have happened,” he admitted.
Mr Gbande, who also serves as a presidential staffer, further noted that the gesture — despite its good intentions — did not sit well with the public and that the party accepts responsibility.
“That gesture, even though it was of good intention, didn’t sit well with a lot of people. I think they are right, and we take responsibility and join our colleague to still apologise to the people of Ghana. It will never happen again. We would keep learning,” he added.

Barcelona edged closer to the La Liga title with a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over Real Madrid at the Estadi Olímpic on Sunday.
Real Madrid raced into a 2-0 lead within 14 minutes thanks to a quickfire brace from Kylian Mbappe — the first from the penalty spot and the second after a well-timed run behind Barca’s high line.
But Barca responded with a stunning first-half turnaround. Eric Garcia pulled one back with a header in the 19th minute before Lamine Yamal curled in a brilliant equalizer. Raphinha then scored twice — capitalizing on defensive confusion and finishing with precision to make it 4-2 at halftime.
Mbappe completed his hat-trick with 20 minutes left, taking his tally to 39 goals in all competitions — the highest ever by a Real Madrid player in their debut season. Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez thought he had sealed it late on, but his goal was ruled out for handball after VAR review.
Despite the tense finish, Barcelona held on for all three points and now lead the table by seven, with just three games remaining. The win puts Hansi Flick’s side firmly in control of the title race.

He was named Best Player at the Montelido Promise Tournament in April, a competition Ghana went on to win.
He then lived up to expectations at the African Schools Championship, ending the tournament as Ghana’s joint top scorer with two goals—tied with teammate Ignatius Cyril Hagan and added one assist to his tally.
His performances earned him the title of Ghana’s Best Player at the tournament.

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has issued a public apology on behalf of the party and the government following the controversial dollar gift incident involving the acting CEO of Goldbod, Mr Sammy Gyamfi.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, 11 May, and has since gone viral on social media, shows Mr Gyamfi handing dollars to a self-styled preacher, Nana Agradaa, after a brief exchange. The footage sparked public backlash and reignited conversations about ethical leadership.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, 13 May, Mr Gbande admitted that while Mr Gyamfi’s actions were not unlawful, they were inappropriate given his status and the sensitivity of the political landscape.
“At this point, I would like to align myself with a number of reasonable Ghanaians who say, ‘Okay, it should never have happened, it shouldn’t happen again.’ He hasn’t broken the law, but we think that because of where he is, it shouldn’t have happened,” Mr Gbande said.
He noted that although the gesture may have been well-intentioned, its execution did not resonate well with the public. “That gesture, even though it was of good intention, didn’t sit well with a lot of people. I think they are right, and we take responsibility and join our colleague to still apologise to the people of Ghana. It will never happen again. We would keep learning,” he added.
However, Mr Gbande, who’s also a presidential staffer, criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he described as hypocritical criticism, questioning their moral authority on matters of corruption.
“It doesn’t give anybody from the NPP the audacity to sit on TV and want to criticise this matter because they don’t have any moral credibility as far as corruption-related offences are concerned. They themselves represent corruption,” he asserted.
The NDC’s apology comes amidst growing calls from civil society and political observers for accountability and discipline in political office, especially in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take immediate and decisive action in response to the controversy involving the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, following the circulation of a viral video showing him handing U.S. dollar bills to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, May 13, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye condemned what he described as reckless behaviour by Mr. Gyamfi and urged President Mahama to take the matter seriously.
“We call on President Mahama to show leadership to act swiftly, decisively, and not give Sammy Gyamfi a pat on his back for this reckless conduct,” he stated.
Mr. Boakye went further to accuse the Gold Board CEO of breaching the President’s Code of Conduct for political appointees, insisting that the conduct in question erodes public trust and demands accountability.
“Unsurprisingly, Sammy Gyamfi, like an incorrigible child, has blatantly violated both obligations under the Code and the President must in accordance with Section 6 and his pledge at page 9 of the Code, deal swiftly and decisively with Sammy Gyamfi for the breach,” he said.
He also called on the Mahama administration to enforce compliance with legal and ethical standards among political office holders, stressing the importance of separating political activities from official government responsibilities.
“We urge the current government to take immediate steps to rectify this situation by ensuring that all public officers, especially those holding political positions, comply with the relevant legal provisions. The clear delineation of political roles and governmental functions will reinforce the credibility of the administration and strengthen public confidence in the democratic process,” he added.
The NPP’s call comes amid growing public debate over ethics, accountability, and transparency within the public sector.

It seems some Nigerians are still not ready to ‘forgive’ Desmond Elliot.
The Nollywood actor and politician shared new photos of himself looking dapper in a green native set. But while many were focused on the fashion, one Instagram user, @iam_valasor, was focused on something else entirely.
Dropping a comment under Desmond’s post, the user wrote:
“I really don’t know why… But ever since that year you went and spoke against us ‘Nigerian youths’, seeing your post just dey vex vex me, no offense but it is what it is.”
The comment quickly got attention, with others agreeing that the wounds from the End SARS era and Desmond’s infamous speech during that time are still very fresh.
In response, Desmond Elliot kept it short and calm:
