Popular Ghanaian preacher, Prophet Eliphaz Kutin of the House of Prophecy Ministries, has reportedly passed away.
News of his death spread quickly on social media after the host of the Odo Ahomaso show announced it live on air.
In a video circulating on TikTok and sighted by DailyNewsGhana, the host, Bella De All Rounder, broke the sad news, revealing that one of their regular panellists had died.
New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kwabena Agyei Agyepong says the monetisation of Ghanaian politics has eroded the values of sacrifice and service that once defined the country’s political tradition.
He insists this must be uprooted for the nation to progress.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, he declared, “The fact that the country has been gripped by materialism worries me, and the monetisation of our politics, especially our UP tradition, Adu Boahen’s tradition, Da Rocha’s tradition, R.R Amposah tradition and many others who put their lives, their houses, their everything, Stephen Krakue, J. A. Addison and the rest.
“Otherwise, we would have said that Addison would have won in 1992 because he was a big businessman. But Adu Boahen, the university lecturer, won because people believed in his drive, his vision, what he wanted to do for our country. So it’s never been about money.
“I’m worried that we are allowing money to rule us in this country, and hopefully if I become President, I’ll restore those values of service, sacrifice and selflessness to the party and to the society in general.”
He lamented the decline of the spirit that built the party.
“That, as I said, really animated the formation of this party, that spirit of volunteerism, sacrifice, fellow feeling, all for one, one for all, as has virtually disappeared, you know, to the extent that people are not prepared to work for the party with the kind of gusto that we saw when we were young. You know, you put in a lot and you don’t expect anything in return.”
For Kwabena Agyepong, politics must return to a place of integrity. “And that’s why I’ve been talking about the fact that we need to usher in a new era, a new dawn, a new direction, a new Ghanaian led by a new politician, you know, a politician who earned the respect and the belief of the ordinary Ghanaian, because that belief has taken a big hit.
“When you look at all the surveys, and politicians are the rock botto,m is because of some of the things they have seen from us, the politicians. So we have to lead by changing the narrative.”
He pointed to his own record in public office.
“And I use myself because I’ve been in high office as press secretary to President Kufuor for close to six years. I did not abuse my position. I did not rack up real estate. I did not go after state property. And I think you can serve your country and have a sense of fulfilment without being marvelously rich.”
Kwabena Agyepong said contentment, not money, should define leadership.
“Absolutely vital that we do that for the younger generation to learn something and be able to admire and say, look, I want to become a politician, because you can have a fulfilled life without being fabulously rich anyway, when you grow up like I am now, okay, you realise I don’t need that much money.
“Money is important, but I think it’s not the overriding factor to make you happy. So that spirit of contentment that is missing is divine.”
New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has declared himself the bridge between Ghana’s past and future.
The presidential spokesperson during the Kufuor era pointed to his unique political journey that spans the country’s military era, democratic transition, and the technological age.
“I am lucky enough to have transitioned the changes in politics in this country from the military era through the civilian transition to now, and also the technological advances.
“I see myself as a bridge, because I’m old enough to have seen what happened in 1980 through 1992 to the handover in 2001 and to now, where a lot of things are happening that our fathers never could have dreamed of. If they woke up today, they would be shocked by the world that we are living in,” he said on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition.
Mr Agyepong argued that the roots of the New Patriotic Party were anchored in values forged during some of the country’s toughest periods.
“It’s important that those values that really anchored the formation of our political party. It is a political party that was formed at a time of extreme difficulty in this country.
“It needed men of courage, dedication, you know, values, principles, sacrifice and selflessness, to be able to even identify yourself with this political tradition.”
He stressed that democracy must be protected despite its challenges.
“We have to acknowledge that the dividend, the economic dividend that we’re expecting from democracy, hasn’t really yielded what we were expecting. That’s a fact, and therefore it’s created a new population that is disillusioned, angry, and that is justified.
“We understand that, but it is also important for them to understand that democracy is so much better than autocracy or military dictatorship, and it took the sweat, the toil, the blood and tears of many well-meaning Ghanaians to get us this far.”
He cautioned against political deception.
“It’s important, because we have to do things for the interest of the larger community, not for ourselves. I believe politics is not about ourselves. It’s about the larger good. The centrality of it is the welfare of the ordinary person, especially the underprivileged.”
The NPP flagbearer hopeful also reflected on his upbringing and values.
“I was brought up as a staunch Methodist, and I believe in that. And I mean those days we were brought up to respect our elders. It doesn’t mean that you cannot disagree with your elder, but in a respectful manner.”
He warned that Ghana’s challenges go beyond politics and the economy.
“So it’s not only economic problems we face or political problems, a lot of social problems that we are not dealing with as a country, and that goes to the core of our nation and is eating at us gradually.
“And there’s been a population explosion. Right now, we are heading towards 35 million, and so that has increased drastically over the last 10–15 years.
“The infrastructure that we have and the nation hasn’t expanded too much to be able to assimilate and contain all these teeming youth, and it’s come with it, an army of disappointed and disillusioned youngsters that we’ve got to find a way. And I feel if we are not careful, we’ll be sitting on a time bomb.”
Bawumia’s donation is to help with the preparations for the celebration
The family of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba paid a courtesy call on former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to officially inform him of the musician’s passing and to invite him to the upcoming one-week celebration.
The visit took place on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the NPP presidential candidate hopeful’s office.
The delegation, led by Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu of the Ekuona Royal Family of Nsuta and former Deputy CEO of MASLOC, Madam Afia Akoto, formally extended an invitation to Dr Bawumia for the one-week celebration.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the University of Ghana, Legon Sports Stadium.
During the meeting, Dr Bawumia reiterated his earlier commitment to support the family, a promise he had made during his visit to the musician’s East Legon residence in July.
To honour this pledge, he presented a cash donation of GH₵100,000 to help with the preparations for the celebration.
The money was handed to Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu by the former Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
Dr Bawumia also promised to assist the family with the funeral arrangements, which will be held in the Ashanti Region once a date is announced.
play videoJohnson Asiedu Nketiah is the National Chairman of the NDC
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has refuted claims suggesting that the party intends for President John Dramani Mahama to run for a third term in office.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on August 26, 2025, on recent speculations about the NDC’s succession plans, Asiedu Nketiah stressed that the party remains fully committed to Ghana’s constitutional provisions, particularly the presidential term limit.
“We have never run our party in ways that conflict with the national constitution, and we don’t intend to do that. We will stick by the tenets of the constitution,” he stated.
His clarification comes amid growing debate over who could lead the NDC after President Mahama’s current mandate ends in 2029.
It may also be recalled that a former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, criticised former National Chairman of the party, Freddie Blay, over his stance of having no objection if the Supreme Court interprets the constitution to allow President Mahama to run for a third term.
President Mahama will not yield to calls for a third term – Kwesi Pratt Jnr
Freddie Blay, weighing in on the national debate over President John Dramani Mahama’s eligibility to contest the 2028 general elections, welcomed the idea of a possible interpretation of the provisions stipulated in the 1992 Constitution.
“The law is in the bosom of the judges. If it goes to the Supreme Court which has the exclusive judicial right to interpret the constitution and that body decides that what it means by two terms is conservatively this or that, I don’t have a problem with it,” he said in an interview on Oyerepa FM on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
However, in response to Blay’s remarks during an exclusive GhanaWeb interview on June 17, 2025, Obiri Boahen chided him for hiding behind semantics to praise the president’s work, emphasising that while there is nothing wrong with commending the president, Blay should not do so openly.
According to Boahen, the constitutional provision regarding the number of terms a president can serve is explicitly clear and does not require interpretation, emphasising that it is not ambiguous and should be easily understood by anyone.
He further explained that legal interpretations are sought in court only when the wording of a law is unclear or susceptible to misinterpretation.

The 25-year-old striker, once captained Ghana’s U17 national team
Ghanaian forward Eric Ayiah has sealed a season-long loan move to Portuguese Liga 3 side Varzim Sport Club from second-tier outfit FC Felgueiras ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
The 25-year-old striker, who once captained Ghana’s U17 national team, completed the switch before the close of the transfer window as he looks to secure more regular playing time in the coming season.
Varzim officially announced the capture of Ayiah via their Facebook page, stating: “Eric Ayiah is loaned out from FC Felgueiras until 2026.”
Ayiah enjoyed a solid campaign with Felgueiras last term, registering five goals and three assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.
His work rate and versatility in attack earned him admiration from the club’s supporters, but with increased competition for places in the squad, a move to Varzim was agreed to help him continue his development.
Once a highly-touted prospect at AS Monaco’s academy, Ayiah has gradually carved a career in Portuguese football after spells with several clubs in the lower tiers.
Despite his impressive displays at youth level for Ghana – where he earned 10 caps with the Black Starlets – he is still waiting for his first senior national team call-up.
Ayiah’s arrival is expected to bolster Varzim’s frontline as they push for promotion from Liga 3, with the Ghanaian attacker eager to rediscover his best form and make a strong impact during his loan spell.

Kofi is the leader of a small group which calls itself the Kingdom of Kubala. The group consists of three members: King Atehene, Queen Nandi, and a Texas woman named Kaura Taylor, now known as Asnat, who was previously reported missing.
The group deems itself the ‘rightful occupants of Scotland’. They believe they are descendants of native black Jacobites, who were black Highlanders living in Scotland over 400 years ago.
In a recent video, Kofi, the Kubala King, announced that he had foreseen a great exodus of Africans, particularly Ghanaians and Kenyans, to inherit their lost life in Scotland.
“The creator has sent me to the land to bring you back home to the place you belong. You have lost your identity, pride, home and heritage. I am your messiah,” King Atehene said in his message to Ghanaians and Kenyans.
The viral sensation referred to the upcoming exodus to the Biblical version led by Moses.
“Prepare yourselves if you’re in Ghana and Kenya. You shall be seeing the messiah and the tribe of Kubala soon. You shall walk on foot through the wilderness to the promised land,” he added.
The self-styled king identified two items: Fugu (a traditional hand-woven cloth predominantly worn by the Northern tribes of Ghana) and bodua (an Akan term for a whisk usually wielded by royal leaders and priests during functions), as the requirements for the pilgrimage.

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana’s constitutional two-term limit, stressing that his decision not to contest the 2028 elections puts him in a stronger position to enforce fiscal discipline and avoid the election-year spending overruns that have historically triggered economic instability.
Speaking during bilateral talks with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam as part of a three-day state visit, Mahama condemned the practice of incumbent governments bending fiscal rules to win voter support.

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has opened registration for additional delegates as part of its expanded voter register in preparation for the presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
In a statement signed by William Yamoah, Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee, the party directed all qualified officers and dignitaries falling under newly approved categories to immediately register with their respective organisational structures, including the national secretariat, regions, constituencies, and external branches.
The exercise, which began this week, will run until Friday, September 19, 2025.
The party said an online registration link would also be made available to external branch executives for ease of access, while other qualified members have been advised to liaise with their constituency and regional offices.
The expanded voter register follows a decision taken at the party’s National Annual Delegates Conference in Accra on July 19, 2025.

According to the party, the Presidential Elections Committee will undertake a thorough verification and validation of the updated register to ensure authenticity and credibility before the election.
Youth Sounding Board Ghana members and dignitaries in a group photograph
THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) has unveiled 20 young leaders, aged 18-32, as the inaugural cohort of the Youth Sounding Board Ghana.
For the next two years, these selected members will collaborate closely with the EU Delegation to Ghana and the Netherlands Embassy. The initiative, launched in January 2025, aims to amplify youth voices and provide a platform for young Ghanaians to shape discussions, policies, and programmes related to youth development.
EU Ambassador to Ghana, Irchad Razaaly, in his address stated that the 20 young leaders were selected from across the country after a highly competitive process that received more than 500 applications.
“The launch of the Youth Sounding Board of Ghana is a concrete example of how we put youth at the centre of our partnership. It reflects our EU Youth Strategy, which stands on three key pillars: Engage, Empower, and Connect,” he said.
He indicated that, “across all our programmes (from climate action to digital innovation, from skills and jobs to peacebuilding and inclusion), EU strive to mainstream youth perspectives, ensuring that young people’s voices shape every aspect of our work.”
“The Youth Sounding Board will be a key channel for making this principle tangible in Ghana. Dear young leaders, this is your platform. Use it boldly. Speak with courage. Push us to do better. We are counting on your ideas, your creativity, and your energy to make Team Europe’s work in Ghana more relevant, more inclusive, and more impactful,” he urged.
Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana, Jeroen Verheul, said the Youth Sounding Board fits in perfectly with what the embassy has been doing already to strengthen the position of young people and to give them a meaningful voice in the spaces they move in.
“We believe strongly that the Youth Sounding Board can help us to include young people even better, making sure that we are properly addressing the actual needs of Ghana’s youth. That is why we fully support and embrace the Youth Sounding Board – an important platform for young people to contribute meaningfully to issues that affect their lives,” he added.
The CEO of National Youth Authority (NYA), Mr. Osman Abdulai Ayariga Esq., said the Authority will integrate Youth Sounding Board Ghana recommendations into its quarterly policy reviews.
“We will provide capacity building on government systems and budget processes. We will facilitate access to existing programmes and help identify funding sources for viable initiatives,” he added.

CONTROVERSIAL MEDIA personality, Afia Schwarzenegger, has stated that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia advised her to stop attacking political figures in the country.
This disclosure follows her meeting with Dr. Bawumia and some New Patriotic Party (NPP) leaders in the USA, where they celebrated the 33rd anniversary of the NPP-USA branch.
In a Tiktok Live Session, Afia Schwarzenegger said she was angered after Dr. Bawumia advised her to stop attacking Kennedy Agyapong, NPP presidential aspirant, and other political figures.
“After encountering Dr. Bawumia yesterday, he advised me to stop attacking Kennedy Agyapong and other political figures in the country if l love him. I was shocked to hear those directives from him,” she said.
Afia Schwarzenegger and Kennedy Agyapong have a long-standing feud, frequently exchanging harsh words. The feud reportedly started in 2016, with both parties engaging in public insults and unprintable language.
The two have hurled insults at each other, with Afia Schwarzenegger calling out Kennedy Agyapong’s behaviour and him labeling her a prostitute and accusing her of bedwetting.
Afia Schwarzenegger has also accused Kennedy Agyapong of masterminding an attack on her using soldiers, further fueling their animosity.
Eight (8) persons arrested in connection with violence that characterised the parliamentary election re-run in Ablekuma North last month, have been convicted by a Circuit Court in Accra.
This followed a plea of guilty entered by all the accused persons who were hauled before the court on charges of conspiracy to commit assault and a substantive charge of assault.
The eight are Mohammed Abubakari, 32, private security; Tijani Mahmudu, 38, driver; Prince Dzakpasu, 39, businessman; Anas Mohammed, 42, estate developer; Mohammed Hamda, 35, mechanic; Darko Otibu Samuel, 33, businessman; Musah Muntari, 46, station manager and Ali Saeed aka Bomba, 43, businessman.
The convicts, according to court documents, assaulted former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hawa Koomson; Deputy Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei and Majeed Mohammed Saana, a trader.
They all pleaded guilty to the four counts of conspiracy, and the court presided over by His Honour Isaac Addo convicted them on their own plea but deferred the sentencing to Friday, August 29, 2025.
However, the court after convicting the eight, granted them a bail of GH¢80,000 each pending the sentencing, a decision that many have described as strange.
Court document noted that the convicts assaulted the complainants on July 11, 2025 when they visited the Methodist Church Polling Station to monitor the election re-run.
It stated that Hawa Koomson and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei were initially attacked and assaulted by the convicts.
“After they were rescued by the security men at the polling station, the accused persons (convicts) proceeded to assault the 3rd complainant (Majeed Mohammed Saana) who was also at the polling centre without any provocation,” the document said.
It further stated that all the complainants were rescued and taken to Odorkor Police Station and Regional CID, where they formerly lodged a complaint of assault.
Police Medical Forms were issued to them after which they proceeded to the hospital for treatment.
The convicts were subsequently arrested. The document added that they all denied the allegations in their caution statements.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially filed his nomination at the party’s headquarters in Accra, expressing confidence, gratitude, and a strong desire to serve both party and country.
Addressing a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters on Wednesday, August 27, Dr. Acheampong described his decision to contest as one driven by duty, clarity, and readiness to lead.
“I share this exciting news with you with clarity in my mind, energy in my body, and duty in my spirit. I speak as a servant ready to offer myself fully once again for party, for country, for a future that must belong to all of us,” he said.
Reflecting on his life story, Dr. Acheampong spoke of his humble beginnings and rise through hardship, emphasizing that his background shaped his values and leadership.
“I come from humble beginnings, where values were taught day by day. The son of a teacher who struggled to raise three children—myself and two siblings—in the bathrooms of Mile 7. From there, I’ve built reputable businesses and a career in politics,” he shared.
He noted that his experience in both private and public service has prepared him for the responsibilities ahead.
“I know what it means to build from the ground up. I know the weight of responsibility. I know how a single opportunity can transform not just one’s life, but an entire family’s future,” he stated.
Dr. Acheampong highlighted his longstanding service to the NPP and Ghana, adding that his journey through the ranks of the party and government has equipped him with insight and leadership.
“I have served faithfully in both party and government. I have been a grassroots activist, a politician, a policymaker, and a servant of my community,” he said. “I understand the potential of Ghana, and I believe in the potential of our people.”
He urged his supporters to remain respectful and avoid personal attacks, warning that such behaviour could harm the party’s unity and electoral chances.
“My supporters from north to south, east to west must shy away from comments and commentaries that smear individuals and ultimately affect the fortunes of our party,” he cautioned. “I come to unite, I come to build, I come to lead with conviction, and I come to win power for the NPP.”
Dr. Acheampong also expressed deep appreciation to his supporters, some of whom travelled long distances to show their solidarity.
“Let me take the opportunity to thank all those who have come here to support me. I am aware that some people have driven for 20 hours from Tumu to Wa, and from Wa to Accra. I thank you,” he said.
He concluded his remarks with a bold announcement: “In November, I shall launch my campaign. It will be the NPP’s campaign — a big campaign — and we will fight, and we will win.”
Dr. Bryan Acheampong is one of several prominent figures vying to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.

Kennedy Agyapong is one of the leading aspirants of the NPP
A leading contender in the upcoming presidential race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has tasked the party’s delegates to open themselves up and pay attention to the larger Ghanaian voting populace as they prepare to elect a flagbearer.
This, according to him, has become eminent in view of the fact that not only NPP delegates will cast their votes to determine who becomes the next president of Ghana in 2028 when general elections are held.
The aspirant stated this on August 27, 2025, while speaking to a crowd of party delegates who had gathered at the party’s headquarters, where he formally filed his nomination documents, affirming his participation in the presidential race.
He said, “You must note that not only NPP delegates will vote in 2028, but the entire voter population in the country. What did you hear from the streets when coming here?”
He posited that his name has become a household name across the country, asserting that “everywhere you go, you hear the people shout that if you don’t bring Kennedy Agyapong, we will not vote.”
“So my appeal to the delegates is that, listen to what Ghanaians told you when you were leaving home. The message on the street and in trotro is that if you don’t’ bring Ken Agyapong, we won’t vote; at the beer bar, the message is that we will vote for the love of Kennedy Agyapong,” he stated
He appealed to the delegates to let the message from the streets inform their decision when they queue on January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer of the party, insisting that a vote for him to lead the party will be a vote for the party’s victory in 2028.
Kennedy Agyapong has officially submitted his nomination forms at the party headquarters ahead of the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries.
Kennedy Agyapong, who is contesting for the second consecutive time, has promised that job creation for the youth will be his top priority if he wins the votes of Ghanaians to become the nation’s president.

Shatta Wale’s bold pronouncement comes on the heels of a week of legal troubles
Controversial Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah, has made a defiant statement just days after his release from detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
During a performance of his song “Rising Youth” at the Osu Homowo Festival, the self-proclaimed “African Dancehall King” declared that if he is “dared,” he will buy another Lamborghini within the next two months.
EOCO detains Shatta Wale
Shatta Wale’s bold pronouncement comes on the heels of a week of legal troubles.
He was detained by EOCO as part of an ongoing investigation into the ownership of his distinctive yellow Lamborghini Urus.
According to a statement released by EOCO on Thursday, August 1, 2025, Shatta Wale, during his interrogation, claimed to have purchased the luxury vehicle “on the streets,” a statement that has raised eyebrows among investigators and the public alike.
The vehicle has been confiscated by the anti-graft agency as part of their probe, which reportedly involves US officials.
The interrogation led to his detention, but the musician was later granted bail.
The initial bail amount was set at a staggering GH¢10 million, but it was subsequently reduced to GH¢5 million with two sureties whose properties must be verified.
Shatta Wale’s performance at the Homowo Festival was his first major public appearance since his release and he wasted no time in addressing his recent ordeal.
His defiant message seems to be a direct response to the confiscation of his car and the legal challenges he is currently facing.
The confrontations reportedly involved factions loyal to different traditional leaders
Two people have lost their lives and several others sustained injuries following violent clashes during the Homowo Kpokpoi Sprinkling Ceremony at the Teshie Traditional Area on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, according to a 3news.com report.
The deceased have been identified as Eddy Blessing, 30 and Patrick Maamah Martey Fio, 27.
According to a news report, both were pronounced dead on arrival at the Lekma Hospital after suffering gunshot wounds. Several others remain hospitalised, with one person reported to be in critical condition.

The Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) of the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly in a statement explained that the disturbances began in the early hours of the ceremony when rival groups disrupted the festival.
Stones were thrown, and sporadic gunfire erupted, prompting a swift police response.
Although security personnel managed to briefly restore calm, allowing Paramount Chief Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akonfra III to perform his traditional rites, renewed clashes broke out later in the day.
The confrontations reportedly involved factions loyal to different traditional leaders.
The violence triggered chaotic scenes at nearby health facilities as relatives rushed injured victims to hospitals.
Emergency units were overwhelmed, but health authorities, supported by police, managed to stabilise the situation.
MUSEC has assured residents that investigations are ongoing to track down and prosecute those responsible for the violence.
In the statement, the council expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
It also appealed to residents and traditional factions to remain calm and support security agencies in their efforts to ensure lasting peace in the community.

Kofi Kapito, has called on Ghanaians to boycott DSTV
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA), Kofi Kapito, has called on Ghanaians to boycott DSTV to pressure MultiChoice, the service provider, to reduce subscription prices of its bouquet.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Kofi Kapito emphasised the power of consumer action in addressing high costs, urging subscribers to discontinue their subscriptions to signal their dissatisfaction.
“We can send them a strong message by just showing our displeasure by switching our subscriptions off to let them know that if they don’t reduce it, we will keep disconnecting our subscriptions,” he stated.
He stressed that such action avoids government interference and diplomatic concerns as it directly conveys consumer discontentment.
MultiChoice Ghana given 30 days to respond to suspension notice from NCA
“We, the consumers who subscribe to their business, are telling them that enough is enough,” he said.
“They need to listen to the consumer, the subscriber, who makes them money. Just like in any business, if you are selling and I keep telling you that the cost of your product is too high and you don’t listen, if I stop buying from you, eventually your business might fold up. There is some power afforded a consumer to use to let a business understand that they are unhappy with their services,” the CEO added.
He cited examples of consumer-driven actions in other countries, including Nigeria and the United States, where similar pressures led to corporate responses.
Government imposes GH¢10,000 daily fine on DSTV over failure to submit pricing data
The call by the COE, comes on the back of growing public discontent in Ghana over the rising cost of DSTV subscriptions, with many subscribers advocating for affordable pricing from MultiChoice, which operates the satellite television service across Africa.
In 2025, the government of Ghana, led by Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, demanded that MultiChoice Ghana, operator of DSTV, reduce subscription fees by 30% due to high prices compared to other African markets, despite the cedi’s 40% appreciation.
After DSTV rejected the proposal, citing economic constraints, Sam George directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to initiate license suspension proceedings if the company does not comply by August 7, 2025.
When DSTV failed to submit required pricing data, a daily fine of GH¢10,000 was imposed starting from August 15, 2025, under the Electronic Communications Act.
The government extended the deadline to September 6, 2025, for a price cut agreement, threatening further sanctions, including potential license revocation, to ensure fair pricing for Ghanaians.

Residents of New Bakpa and surrounding communities in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region have officially begun using a newly constructed market facility provided by the Citi FM Foundation.
For many farmers, the market is a “game-changer,” expected to reduce post-harvest losses, cut down the need to travel to bigger markets outside the district, and improve household incomes.
Traders who have already started operating say the facility is a long-awaited intervention that will stimulate economic activity in the area. They are, however, appealing for an expansion to accommodate the growing number of users.
“We are happy this market has begun operating. Today, being the first market day, you can see the number of people who are coming to buy and sell. This has reduced our transport fares to other towns to trade, and it will also open up the community to opportunities. We are thankful to Citi FM for the support,” said resident Sandra Gidisu.
An Environmental Health Expert in the New Bakpa enclave confirmed that measures have been put in place to prevent possible disease outbreaks resulting from poor sanitation.
The Chief of New Bakpa, Togbe Kwabla Sakpiti V, and his elders also raised concerns about poor road access to the market.
“There is no good road leading to the market, so we are pleading with the government to speed up construction of the road that leads to the market,” he said.
Despite these challenges, community leaders expressed deep gratitude to the Citi FM Foundation for prioritising their needs with a project they believe will serve generations.
District Chief Executive for Central Tongu, Dodzi Addison Mornyuie, also commended the initiative and assured that government will prioritise the market’s expansion while working on road construction to ease movement of goods and services.
The New Bakpa market was handed over by the management of Citi FM/Channel One TV alongside gender-specific washroom facilities and a mechanised borehole water system for displaced residents of New Bakpa in November 2024.
These residents, affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage by the Volta River Authority, continue to face significant challenges rebuilding their lives.
Funded through donations from Citi FM listeners and Channel One TV viewers, the facilities were completed at a cost of GH₵1.3 million. The New Bakpa project is part of several interventions across the Volta Region to support recovery efforts following the 2023 Akosombo disaster.

Ghana’s corn imports are projected to climb sharply in the 2025/2026 marketing year, rising to 500,000 metric tonnes.
This is a 67 percent increase over the 2024/2025 estimate, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Grain and Feed Annual 2025 Report.
Per the report, the jump follows the government’s decision to maintain the suspension of restrictions on corn imports, a policy first introduced by the previous government to ease supply pressures and stabilise prices.
Corn prices reached a high of GHȼ380 ($24.52) per 50kg bag in February 2025, prompting policymakers to keep the market open to imports in order to avert sharp hikes during the lean season.
The increased supply from imports is already driving prices down, offering relief to consumers and agribusinesses.
However, the policy has also raised concerns among local producers. Reports from the Afram Plains indicate a glut in maize production, with farmers struggling to find buyers for their harvests.
Some stakeholders within the agriculture value chain warn that without a clear strategy to balance imports with domestic production, farmers risk being crowded out of the market.
Anthony Morrison the CEO of the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana and he has been speaking to Citi Business News.
“We may have to look at a long term strategy, not just beating down the production costs,” he said.
The report also disclosed that the extended dry spells of 2024 severely constrained domestic output, leading to earlier plans to facilitate more than 300,000 MT in corn imports.
That administration ultimately relied on tax exemptions and private sector incentives to bring in corn, resulting in a nearly 18-fold increase in imports compared to the previous year’s levels.
President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed growing speculation that he may seek another term in 2028, firmly stating that he will not contest in Ghana’s next general elections.
The President, who arrived in Singapore on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, for a three-day State Visit, reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana’s presidential term limit, stressing that his decision would allow him to enforce fiscal discipline without political pressure.
For months, sections of the public and political commentators had suggested that President Mahama could be persuaded to run again.
But the President has now put those rumors to rest, making it clear that he has no intention of returning to the ballot.
Explaining his decision, President Mahama said stepping aside in 2028 would give him the moral authority to prioritise the national interest over electoral considerations.
“I will not be a candidate in the next elections and therefore I can hold the line when it comes to fiscal discipline,” he said.
President Mahama reaffirms his commitment to two-term presidential limit
During bilateral discussions with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President Mahama also criticised the practice of incumbent governments circumventing fiscal safeguards to curry favor with voters, a cycle he said he was determined to end.
As part of his visit, he will meet Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, deliver the keynote address at the 8th Africa, Singapore Business Forum (ASBF), and headline a Ghana country-specific Investment and Business Forum to deepen trade, investment and partnerships between the two nations.

“Derrick Arthur has gladly agreed to switch his nationality from Germany to Ghana. Derrick Arthur is an exceptional talent who has very good attributes as a defender,” he said.
Arthur agreed to switch nationality from Germany to Ghana after discussions with the GFA and Black Stars coach Otto Addo.
His decision adds depth to Ghana’s defensive unit at a time when the team is seeking long-term options in the left-back position.
The highly-rated fullback is expected to bolster Ghana’s defensive options as the Black Stars prepare for two crucial fixtures — away to Chad on September 4 and at home against Mali on September 8 — in the race to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
A South African influencer linked to a controversial job scheme in Russia has apologised for her role in promoting it in a country where many young people are desperate to find jobs.
Cyan Boujee, whose real name is Honour Zuma, came under scrutiny after one of the videos she posted online advertising jobs for women aged between 18 and 22 went viral.
It prompted the government to issue a warning about the scheme and alert people to the dangers of human trafficking and “unverified job opportunities overseas”.
“Immediately when I saw the comments on my stories and on my videos… I knew that this is not something I stand with,” the 24-year-old told her 902,000 followers on Instagram.
Popularly known as Cyan, the influencer has removed the promotional videos from her social media pages. They had described an opportunity for a “fresh new start” for young women at the start of their careers.
In a video shot in Tatarstan in Russia and posted over the weekend on TikTok, where she has 1.7 million followers, Cyan had said it was a two-year “start programme” for those wanting to acquire professional skills, though it was not made clear in what professions.
She had explained those hired would be given jobs and taught how to speak Russian.
There have been allegations that some of those recruited to work in Tatarstan have ended up working in a weapons factory, making drones that have been used in Russia’s war in Ukraine.
In her Instagram apology, Cyan acknowledged that “human trafficking is a very, very serious matter”, adding that the backlash had been a “huge learning curve” for her and “and all the other influencers”.
“I knew this is something I had to delete immediately, I didn’t care about the money,” she said.
“I apologise and I believe that this is not something that will be repeated again.”
There has been a huge fallout on social media over the job videos, with a petition launched calling on influencers to use their platforms to instead “spread awareness about the signs and dangers of trafficking”.
The authorities have launched an investigation into the scheme. Deputy Justice Minister Andries Nel said “so-called opportunities” were often “linked to serious risks of labour exploitation and human trafficking”.
“Never rely solely on social media promotions or unsolicited social media advertisements; always cross-check and verify job opportunities through official channels,” he said on Wednesday.
One of the main recruiters in the scheme promoted by Cyan and other influencers is a special economic zone in Tatarstan, which is where weapons are believed to be produced.
A report by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime released in May looked into the recruitment of people for the “start” programme.
It said that “potential recruits are enticed to participate under false pretences regarding the nature of the work, the working conditions and opportunities for education”, adding that the objective is to support the “drone production programme”.
Most work “directly in drone production, while others work as support staff – cleaners and caterers”.
In one of her now-deleted videos, Cyan had said, “apparently girls are treated fairly here – Africans, Asians, Latin Americans”.
Ghanaian actor-turned-politician, John Dumelo, and his wife, Gifty, have shared the joyful news that they quietly welcomed a son last year.

John Dumelo also joined in the celebration, sharing photos and showing love to his little boy on his special day.
Ellen Ama Daaku is a member of the NPP’s Communications Team
A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Team, Ellen Ama Daaku, has condemned attempts by some individuals within the party to introduce tribal and religious sentiments into the NPP internal contest for the 2028 presidential primary.
Speaking in an interview on Angel FM and monitored by GhanaWeb on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Daaku described the trend as troubling, stressing that tribal sentiments consistently resurface during elections, whether internal or national.
“It is interesting that tribalism always rears its head during election, be it internal party elections, district assembly elections, or national elections. However, when it comes to nation-building, we hardly hear about it. So, those NPP supporters who have suddenly raised questions about Dr Bawumia’s tribe, why didn’t they do so in 2012, during the election petition hearing?” she questioned.
Daaku urged party members to be measured in their public commentary, stressing that tribal politics must be condemned.
“As a party, we need to be guided in our utterances. Tribal politics must be condemned. If the person is capable of leading the country, his tribe should not be a hindrance. We all know John Dramani Mahama will not run again, so as we anticipate what will happen, let’s also see how the NDC will handle it,” she added.
Her remarks come in the wake of a viral video featuring NPP flagbearer hopeful Dr Bryan Acheampong, who urged delegates to reject the former Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia as a candidate for the 2028 elections.
Dr Acheampong argued that the NPP lost votes in the 2024 polls due to Bawumia’s Mamprusi background, claiming that the Kusasi people, who have a long-standing conflict with the Mamprusi withheld their support from the party as a result.
Meanwhile, Dr Acheampong has clarified that his comments were misrepresented.
According to him, his submission was about the challenges facing the party and its choice of candidates, not about ethnicity.
The NPP has scheduled its presidential primary for January 31, 2026.

National Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yammin, has alleged that the task forces mandated to stop illegal mining are exploiting their positions to extort money from innocent and legally registered miners.
According to Yammin, the task forces have abandoned their core mandate and are worsening the illegal mining menace. He has, therefore, called on President Mahama to immediately disband all the task forces.
“I’m telling the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, that as a matter of urgency, he should immediately order a stop to all operations of these task forces,” Yammin declared.
He argued that the activities of the task forces cannot be described as an attempt to fight illegal mining. Instead, he accused them of extorting money and creating more problems.
“The President should order the IGP and the Interior Minister that whichever task force is working should immediately halt all their operations,” he insisted.
Mr. Yammin made the remarks while addressing a gathering of miners in a meeting captured on video. Although the venue and time of the address could not be established by this paper, the video has since gone viral on social media, sparking heated debate about the credibility of government’s commitment to ending galamsey.
In his address, Yammin questioned the strange manner in which the task forces were operating. “Don’t we have legally registered miners in this country?” he asked, accusing the group of harassing licensed miners without justification.
Highlighting further inefficiencies, he queried: “Where do these task forces check the documents of miners? Where do they verify whether someone has a permit to mine or not?”
The NDC National Organiser stressed that many critical questions remain unanswered about how the task force conduct its duties, and called for a pause and a re-think.
“That’s why I’m asking the President to halt all operations and let us sit down to find a lasting solution to these problems,” he said.
He alleged that certain individuals were profiteering from the chaos while the real fight against illegal mining remained unresolved.
“Some people are making a lot of money, meanwhile we haven’t solved the problem at hand,” he lamented.
The government has pledged its support to the family of late highlife legend Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, as preparations for his final rites begin.
During a courtesy call by the family of the iconic musician at the Jubilee House on Monday, August 25, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah assured the bereaved family of the state’s involvement in honouring the late artiste, who he said deserved a dignified farewell.
“If money could save a life, we would have found a way. This is not just a loss for the family, but for the entire nation… As a government, we will support the family in this difficult time,” he said.
Mr Debrah paid glowing tribute to the singer, describing his passing as a significant national loss.
He acknowledged Daddy Lumba’s extraordinary influence on Ghanaian music and culture, noting that his work went beyond entertainment to touch lives across all walks of life.
“The President loved Daddy Lumba’s songs. When he sits in his car and sings along his songs, you’d be amazed — so this is a great loss to us all. I can’t sing like that, so you can see there was a special connection.”
“His songs touched all of us — whether we were sad or happy. Daddy Lumba made a lasting impact. We can’t say we won’t honour him, especially considering how well he honoured Ghana with his music.”
The visit formed part of traditional customs to formally inform the government of the musician’s passing and initiate discussions around funeral arrangements and potential state support.
Daddy Lumba, who died in July at The Bank Hospital in Cantonments, Accra, was widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most celebrated musical icons. His death has sparked a wave of tributes from musicians, fans, and national figures.
With a career spanning over three decades, Lumba released more than 30 albums and gave Ghanaians unforgettable hits such as ‘Aben Wo Ha,’ ‘Theresa,’ ‘Yentie Obiaa,’ and ‘Playboy.’
Born on September 29, 1964, he first rose to fame in the 1980s as part of the Lumba Brothers, a duo with Nana Acheampong, before launching a successful solo career that redefined the highlife genre.
His lyrical depth, soulful voice, and innovative sound earned him a loyal following and cemented his legacy in Ghana’s musical history.

A senior New Patriotic Party official has condemned viral comments by Dr Bryan Acheampong urging party members to reject former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia based on his ethnic background.
Yamusah Ibrahim, the NPP’s North East Regional Deputy Secretary, issued a sharp rebuke after footage emerged showing Acheampong advising delegates against supporting Bawumia due to his Mamprusi heritage. The controversial remarks linked Bawumia’s ethnicity to ongoing tensions between Mamprusi and Kusasi communities in Bawku.
Speaking from the party’s North East regional office, Ibrahim called the comments “divisive, unnecessary, and contrary to the principles of unity, peace, and inclusiveness upon which our party is built.”
The deputy secretary, known locally as Brainmaster, demanded an immediate retraction and public apology from Acheampong. He warned that such rhetoric could damage party unity ahead of the 2028 elections.
In the disputed video, Acheampong suggested that nominating Bawumia could reignite ethnic conflicts and cost the NPP electoral victory. Ibrahim firmly rejected this reasoning, describing it as harmful to national development goals.
“The NPP draws its strength from diversity and from the collective contributions of people across ethnic, cultural, and religious lines,” Ibrahim stated. “Any attempt to reduce the party’s fortunes to ethnic rivalries is not only misleading but also harmful to our broader vision.”
The controversy highlights internal party tensions as the NPP prepares for leadership changes following its 2024 electoral defeat. Bawumia served as vice president under former President Nana Akufo-Addo before the party lost power to John Mahama’s National Democratic Congress.
Ibrahim urged all party aspirants to focus on policy proposals rather than ethnic divisions during the leadership selection process. He specifically called on the National Executive Committee and National Council to intervene and force Acheampong’s retraction.
The deputy secretary emphasized that inflammatory language undermines party cohesion at a critical rebuilding period. With the NPP now in opposition, maintaining unity becomes essential for future electoral prospects.
Ethnic politics remain sensitive in Ghana’s northern regions, where historical conflicts between different groups occasionally flare up. Political leaders typically avoid references that could inflame community tensions.
The Bawku area has experienced periodic unrest between Mamprusi and Kusasi communities over traditional authority disputes. However, many political observers reject linking these local issues to national electoral calculations.
Ibrahim’s public condemnation signals that party leadership may not tolerate ethnic-based campaign rhetoric as internal selection processes unfold. The NPP faces pressure to present a united front while rebuilding after losing the presidency.
Whether Acheampong will heed calls for retraction remains unclear, but the controversy already threatens to overshadow substantive policy debates within the party.
The official opening ceremony for the Sankofa Day Celebrations took place on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Sankofa Square, Toronto – Canada, formerly Yonge Dundas Square.
The day and change of name from Yonge Dundas Square to “Sankofa Square” is very significant to the history of Ghana as it marks the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition.
The change of name is as a result of a two-year consultation process led by the Toronto City’s Recognition Review Community Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising black and indigenous leaders, residents and business owners. The process to rename the iconic square in Toronto’s downtown core was precipitated by a petition claiming that its namesake, Henry Dundas, a Scottish politician from the 1770s to the early 1800s was a major proponent in delaying the abolition of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.
Following two years of community consultation, research and discussion, the Toronto City’s Recognition Review Community Advisory Committee reached consensus choice on the name “Sankofa Square” for Yonge Dundas Square.
Representing President John Dramani Mahama were the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie and the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, James Gyakye Quayson.
Speaking on behalf of the President, Ms. Gomashie stated that “the renaming of the Yonge Dundas Square to Sankofa Square is not merely a change of name, it is an act of remembrance and an act of reclamation and an act of reparations. It is a bold step towards justice and healing not just for the people of Toronto but for all Africans, at home and in the Diaspora.”
She further noted that “in renaming the Sankofa Square, Toronto sends a powerful message to the rest of the world that it is possible to face history with honesty, to dismantle legacies of oppression and commit to building an inclusive and equitable future. By choosing Sankofa, the city of Toronto affirms the importance of African heritage in the global struggle for freedom, justice and acknowledges the centrality of memory in the journey towards freedom.”
On behalf of the Canadian Government, Toronto City Mayor – Olivia Chow and Toronto City Councillor – Chris Moise expressed the desire of the Canadian Government to continue supporting the project and maintain the cordial diplomatic relations between both countries.

The weapons include eight pump-action guns and one locally manufactured single-barrel gun.
The police, in a statement, confirmed that these seizures form part of intensified efforts to prevent the unlawful possession and use of weapons during the electoral process.
The arrest occurred when police intercepted a vehicle driven by one of the suspects, Bernard Kumi Ofosu on August 22, 2025, near St. Dominic Hospital in Akwatia.

Later that evening, police intercepted a Toyota Hilux pick-up at the Boadua Livingstone snap checkpoint and arrested other suspects identified as Enoch Asiedu, and Lu Youyan, a Chinese national, after four live BB cartridges were retrieved from the vehicle.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the ammunition allegedly belonged to their employer, a man identified only as Mohammed, who is said to own the vehicle the suspects were driving in.
The police say efforts are underway to trace and arrest Mohammed for interrogation, while the two suspects remain in custody assisting investigations.
The third arrest occurred on August 23, 2025 when police officers on duty at the Boadua Livingstone Junction snap checkpoint arrested Pieterson Joseph, after retrieving one (1) Adler Tulpar pump-action gun and 46 AAA and BB cartridges from his vehicle.

Stephen Nkansah, who was driving the car, claimed ownership of two of the pump-action guns, and claimed that the third gun belongs to his chief.
He was subsequently arrested and detained for investigation.

Bukom’s fiery boxing rivalry is set to ignite again on September 12, as former national cruiserweight champion Jacob “The Beast” Dickson locks horns with the undefeated but wounded Ernest “Bawubali” Akushey in what has been billed as a battle for supremacy at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Accra.
The fight, promoted by Sports, Education and Management (SEM) Promotions, promises to be a bruising encounter between two men desperate for redemption after recent setbacks in the same iconic venue.
Dickson, 27, suffered a crushing defeat last June in the headline clash dubbed “Battle of the Beasts”, where he was outclassed by Nigerian-American Andrew Tabiti in a bout for the inaugural WBC Africa Bridgerweight title. For Akushey, his unbeaten run was shattered on May 10 when Jonathan “Worldwide” Tetteh stopped him with a seventh-round TKO to snatch the national light-heavyweight crown.
That loss was the first blemish on Akushey’s record after six straight victories — five by knockout — since his professional debut in 2019. Dickson, meanwhile, has now dropped two of his 16 career bouts but insists that this fight will restore his reputation and cement his place at the top of Ghana’s cruiserweight division.
And if his words are anything to go by, fans should expect fireworks.
“This guy is no match for me because he is not a boxer. I will beat him mercilessly, knock him out and, in fact, end his career,” Dickson declared at the official launch last Friday.
Akushey, 32, was unfazed by the verbal onslaught, offering a measured but confident reply.
“I’ve heard all the rubbish Dickson said; the mouth does not know its master is afraid. I’ll do my talking in the ring. My fans should come in their numbers to celebrate another victory,” he retorted.
SEM Promotions president, Lord Edward Coleman, revealed that the September 12 event is backed by partners from Germany, the Netherlands and Canada, with the ambition of projecting Ghanaian boxing onto the global stage.
The undercard will also pack a punch. Highlights include the return of Daniel Selassie Gorsh, looking to rebound after losing his unbeaten record and WBO Africa bantamweight strap to Theophilus Allotey in June.
Fans’ favourite John “Expensive Boxer” Laryea is also set for action after his US outing last November, while former Black Bombers captain Musah Rahman Lawson will make his SEM Promotions debut.
