Stargo teases upcoming release with Lyrical Joe ‘Growing Pains’

0

Stargo has shared the release date for his upcoming collaboration with rising hotshot rapper Lyrical Joe.

The track, titled ‘Growing Pains,’ will showcase the two Hip-Hop stars’ conscious style of rap and sick flows, promising nothing but thrill.

The last time we heard from Stargo was on last year’s ‘Freaky’ with Richie Rhymes, a menacing Hip-Hop track that saw the rapper flex his beastly flow once again.

For those who can never seem to get enough of the skilled emcee, ‘Growing Pains,’ is poised to be a reprise of his elegance with the mic.

“As rappers, we wish to stay in the game forever because it is all we know. While fame comes with a lot of growth that we appreciate, it also comes with a lot of pain–growing pains. It’s a bittersweet feeling seeing those who once idolized us taking our place,” Stargo said of his upcoming release.

He adds, “After recording the track, I couldn’t think of anyone other than Lyrical Joe. He’s one of the new artists right now that is banging out there, so I had to put him on the song. I reached out to him, and all was done and dusted in a few days.”

‘Growing Pains’ will arrive in music stores worldwide on March 1, 2025. Don’t miss out on this lyrically rich song from two of Ghana’s best. Anticipate!

‘We’re going to remove you from Parliament’ – Dr. Tanko Computer to Annoh-Dompreh

NDC Director of Elections and IT Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer and Minority Leader Frank Annoh-Dompreh NDC Director of Elections and IT Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer and Minority Leader Frank Annoh-Dompreh

The Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer, has vowed that his party will remove the Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, from the House.

Speaking in an interview on ChannelOne TV on Monday, February 17, 2025, Dr. Tanko Computer alleged that Annoh-Dompreh, who is the Minority Chief Whip of the 9th Parliament, cheated his way into the House.

He claimed that fake pink sheets were used in the collation of the parliamentary election results for the constituency, leading to the declaration of the Minority Leader as the winner.

“We have filed an election petition against the declaration of Honourable Annoh-Dompreh as the winner of that contest, and the Koforidua High Court is handling the case. I have been reliably informed that his lawyers have been served. Lawyer Garry Nimako is representing him (Annoh-Dompreh).

“So, we are pursuing the case because the declaration was not proper. Fake pink sheets and scanned ones were used to declare him the winner while we were in court. We filed a stay of execution against the mandamus that was filed at the High Court, yet they went ahead and declared him. We are pursuing this matter vigorously,” he said.

The NDC Deputy Director of Elections and IT asserted that allowing Annoh-Dompreh to remain in Parliament would be an affront to the country’s democracy.

“He was not validly elected. The fact that he maneuvered his way into the House does not mean he was rightfully elected. He was not validly elected… The people voted him out, but he manipulated the process through these crooked means. We must ensure that the sanctity of our democracy and electoral processes is upheld. We are going to pursue this case to ensure that the rightfully elected person represents the people in the august House.”

About the Nsawam/Adoagyiri Parliamentary Election

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the incumbent Nsawam/Adoagyiri MP, was declared the winner of the constituency’s 2024 parliamentary election at the Greater Accra Regional office of the Electoral Commission, where disputes over the results were being resolved.

The EC Returning Officer for Nsawam/Adoagyiri announced that Annoh-Dompreh polled 29,660 votes, defeating the NDC’s Philibert Amenorpe Fummey, who secured 29,433 votes.

The collation of the results was not completed on election day after supporters of the candidates besieged the constituency’s collation center.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, indicated that only 143 polling station results had been collated when the process was halted.

“On election day, supporters besieged the collation center, bringing the process to a halt. The Commission attempted to resume and complete the collation on Friday, December 13. However, after results from 143 polling stations had been collated, there was an agreement to put the process on hold until the following day,” she said at a press briefing on December 19, 2024.

Jean Mensa added, “Unfortunately, the collation could not proceed the following day. We were informed by the police service that supporters of the parties were planning to storm the police depot and cause disruptions at the center. Based on police advice, we suspended the collation, leaving it incomplete, and therefore, we could not declare an outcome.”

On Friday, December 20, 2024, a High Court in Accra ordered the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) to proceed with the collation of the 2024 parliamentary election results for the Nsawam/Adoagyiri Constituency in the Eastern Region and declare the winner accordingly.

This ruling followed a mandamus application filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, compelling the EC to collate and declare the results.

Meanwhile, the NDC candidate in the constituency had filed a petition seeking a re-run of the election.

CDM raises concern over government’s management of energy sector

According to CDM, government's management of the sector has deepened public uncertainty According to CDM, government’s management of the sector has deepened public uncertainty

The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has strongly criticized the government’s management of the energy sector, citing poor crisis response, failure to secure stable power agreements, and the rising cost of fuel.

According to the organisation, the administration’s approach has deepened public uncertainty and worsened economic conditions for ordinary Ghanaians.

CDM highlighted the energy minister’s initial claims about fuel shortages at the beginning of the administration, which created panic and uncertainty.

“Such misinformation erodes public trust and reflects a lack of coordination in handling the sector,” the group stated.

It stressed that crisis management in the energy sector must be based on accurate information and clear communication to prevent unnecessary fear among citizens.

Another major concern raised by CDM was the government’s inability to secure stable power agreements.

The looming shutdown threat from Karpower, the organization noted, is a sign of weak negotiations and an inability to honor financial commitments.

“This further exacerbates the crisis and threatens the country’s industrial sector,” CDM warned, adding that a reliable energy supply is critical for economic stability and growth.

The movement also pointed to rising fuel prices and their impact on inflation, which is driving up the cost of transportation, goods, and services.

“With no clear strategy to mitigate these effects, ordinary Ghanaians bear the brunt of poor policy decisions,” CDM lamented.

It urged the government to take immediate steps to address the energy crisis, stabilize fuel prices, and restore confidence in the sector.

Tragedy struck the football community on February 2, 2025, when Nana Pooley, a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter, was fatally stabbed during the club’s match against Nsoatreman.

What began as an on-field altercation among players quickly escalated into the stands, resulting in the tragic incident.

Following the attack, the Ghana Police Service launched a thorough investigation to bring justice to the deceased’s family, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects, including Nsoatreman owner Ignatius Baffour-Awuah.

Now, in a significant development, Asante Kotoko’s lawyer, Sarfo Duku, has revealed that the Ghana Police Service has identified Pooley’s killer.

Speaking to reporters after a court appearance, Duku disclosed that police documents and statements from suspects all point to a man named Braimah as the individual who fatally stabbed Pooley.

However, he remains at large.

“One person is still at large. He’s called Braimah, and according to the police, based on their findings, he is the one who actually stabbed the deceased,” Duku stated.

“In fact, according to the police, I’m speaking based on their official report, which is now a public document, all the accused persons have admitted that it was Braimah, who is currently on the run, that stabbed Pooley to death.”

As investigations continue, Asante Kotoko held a one-week memorial celebration for their fallen supporter on Sunday, February 16, 2025.

The event saw fans from various Ghana Premier League clubs come together to pay their respects.

Detained Ugandan opposition figure treated in clinic overnight

Kizza Besigye has been in detention since November Kizza Besigye has been in detention since November

Detained Ugandan opposition figure Kizza Besigye, on hunger strike for a week, has been returned to prison after being in a health clinic overnight, his allies have said.

The 68-year-old was rushed to a private medical facility in a prison ambulance as his his health was deteriorating, his lawyer Erias Lukwago wrote earlier on Facebook.

Besigye was charged in a military court with illegal possession of a firearm, threatening national security, as well as treachery, which carries the death sentence. He denies the accusations.

The news about his health came hours after a cabinet minister said he had visited Besigye in jail and urged him to resume eating while pledging to drop his military trial.

The veteran politician, who has run for president against long-serving leader Yoweri Museveni four times, has been in detention since he was dramatically abducted in Kenya in November and taken back to Uganda to face a military trial.

Last month, the Supreme Court ruled that trying civilians in military courts was unconstitutional.

The government had insisted Besigye’s military trial would go on and President Museveni dismissed the ruling as “a wrong decision”, vowing to challenge it.

But on Sunday, Information Minister Chris Baryomunsi said he had seen Besigye in prison “in the presence of his doctors” and had asked him to end the hunger strike “as the government fast-tracks the transfer of his case from a court martial to a civil court”.

Besigye’s wife, Winnie Byanyima, however said the visit was “highly suspicious”.

“As a government minister, you are not a concerned visitor – you are his captor,” Ms Byanyima, who is the director of the UN’s HIV/Aids programme, posted on X.

“We will hold you and your government fully accountable for any harm that comes to him,” she added.

On Sunday night, a lawmaker allied to the detained politician said Besigye had been taken to a clinic in a suburb of the Kampala “amidst very heavy security deployment”.

The MP, Francis Mwijukye, said Besigye was “being pushed in a wheel chair”.

Wafula Oguttu, a former leader of the opposition in parliament and a Besigye ally, said prison officers around the clinic told him they would take him back to jail after a series of tests had been conducted.

He told the BBC that he had not been allowed to enter the clinic.

One of Besigye’s political aides, Harold Kaija, said he was now back in prison.

Besigye went on hunger strike a week ago to protest against his continued detention by the military, with his trial yet to start.

He is a former ally of Museveni – who has been in power since 1986 – and was once his personal doctor.

Besigye has previously accused the authorities of political persecution. In recent years he has been less active in politics and did not contest the 2021 election.

Besigye appeared before a court on Friday – in a separate case – looking frail. The Ugandan medical doctors’ association has since called for his “immediate release” on health grounds.
