DRC prosecutor seeks death penalty for former leader Joseph Kabila

Democratic Republic of Congo's former President, Joseph Kabila Democratic Republic of Congo’s former President, Joseph Kabila

A military prosecutor in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is demanding the death penalty for former President Joseph Kabila, who is on trial in absentia.

General Lucien Rene Likulia, the Congolese military auditor general, on Friday called on judges to condemn Kabila to death for treason and war crimes, including homicide, torture, and organising an insurrection, the court heard.

The former president went on trial in his absence in July for his alleged support for Rwanda-backed M23 rebels, who have seized large swaths of mineral-rich eastern DRC this year.

Kabila, who has been outside the DRC for two years, is also accused of having plotted to overthrow President Felix Tshisekedi and other war crimes charges linked to the M23 group.

The charge sheet against him, seen by the AFP news agency, also listed the “forcible occupation of the city of Goma”, which was captured by M23 fighters in January before they agreed a ceasefire with the government in July.

Kabila has denounced the trial, calling the courts “an instrument of oppression”.

Ferdinand Kambere, Kabila’s political party secretary, told the Reuters news agency on Friday that “it is an act of relentlessness and persecution against a member of the opposition.”

The DRC lifted a moratorium on the death penalty last year, but no judicial executions have been carried out since.

The brains behind M23?

Kabila spent almost two decades in power before stepping down in 2018. He has been abroad since late 2023, mostly in South Africa.

He announced that he was returning to the DRC to help push for peace in the war-ravaged east in April. The DRC’s government swiftly moved to ban his political party later that month, and seized his assets.

In May, the DRC’s senate voted to lift his immunity from prosecution.

Kabila made an appearance in the rebel-held east in late May, meeting local religious leaders in the presence of M23’s spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka.

Tshisekedi, his successor as president, has branded him the brains behind the armed group, which has seized cities in the resource-rich east, reportedly with Rwanda’s help.

The charge sheet described Kabila as “one of the initiators of the Congo River Alliance” (AFC), M23’s political arm, and accuses him of having colluded with Rwanda to try to “overthrow by force the power established by law”.

It also accused Kabila of being responsible for atrocities committed by the movement in North and South Kivu provinces.

Rwanda has denied providing military backing to M23, but United Nations experts say its army played a “critical” role in the group’s offensive in the region.

The AFC and M23’s executive secretary, Benjamin Mbonimpa, distanced the movement from Kabila in comments to journalists in Goma in July, dismissing his trial as part of a “malevolent strategy” against him.

Kabila ruled the DRC between 2001 and 2009, taking power following his father, Laurent Kabila’s, assassination.

Although he left the country in 2023, the former leader still has influence over Congolese political life. He has criticised Tshisekedi’s government as a “dictatorship”.

For more than three decades, eastern DRC has been ravaged by conflict between various armed groups. The unrest has intensified since M23’s resurgence in 2021.

“NDC Wasted Malik Basintale’s True Talent” – Oliver Barker-Vormawor Fires at Party Strategy

0

Convener of the #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for mismanaging the political potential of Malik Basintale as per reports from MyNewsGH.

However, the party made a poor choice by assigning Basintale to an administrative role rather than harnessing his strength in grassroots mobilisation.

Barker-Vormawor argued that Basintale’s ability to connect with the youth and inspire enthusiasm was far more valuable to the NDC than bureaucratic duties.

He emphasised that politics thrives on emotional engagement and constant interaction with the people, not on “sorting contracts and per diem allowances” in Accra.

He lamented that by confining Basintale to office responsibilities, the party had wasted an opportunity to build him into a national figure capable of galvanising support across the country.

According to him, deploying Basintale as a full-time organiser could have expanded the party’s reach among young people and injected renewed energy into its campaign efforts.

Barker-Vormawor further suggested that Basintale’s charisma had the potential to give him an appeal reminiscent of former president Jerry John Rawlings, a figure who commanded nationwide enthusiasm.

He acknowledged that some within the NDC might find such rising popularity threatening but urged the leadership to adopt a long-term perspective.

Drawing comparisons with Kwame Nkrumah’s Convention People’s Party, he noted that successful political movements never relented in mobilisation.

“The CPP never stopped mobilising. They defined high-energy politics. This is why they won elections by a landslide always,” he said.

Barker-Vormawor concluded by calling on the NDC to reconsider the strategy, insisting that Basintale belongs on the streets, actively engaging young people, not behind a desk.

Ghana must tighten laws on unexplained wealth – Appiah-Danquah

0

Private legal practitioner and spokesperson for the Movement for Change, Andrew Appiah-Danquah, wants Ghana to adopt tougher laws on unexplained wealth and lifestyle audits to strengthen the fight against economic crime.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, August 23, he argued that Ghana’s current legal regime is fragmented and unable to deal decisively with illicit wealth accumulation.

“So EOCO, FIC, I think they need to look seriously at lifestyle audit issues. I think in the UK they have ‘Unexplained Wealth Order.’ I don’t think we have anything of that nature here. So we also need to find a way of putting all these laws into one full law to make it easier,” he explained.

His comments come in the wake of EOCO’s probe into dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale’s purchase of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, a car authorities suspect is linked to the proceeds of a US$4 million crime. The scam was orchestrated by Ghanaian national Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving a prison term in the United States.

The luxury vehicle was seized by EOCO in a joint operation with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ). According to an EOCO statement, Shatta Wale was questioned for nearly four hours but failed to identify the individual who sold him the car, only saying that he bought it from “the street.”

Investigators also noted that the artiste could not produce any ownership documents apart from a customs declaration form bearing Amuah’s name. He was later released on revised bail conditions after days of legal processes and public scrutiny.

Appiah-Danquah, while commending EOCO for broadening its scope beyond political cases, urged the agency to intensify enforcement of anti-money laundering laws and clamp down on unexplained wealth.

“I will encourage EOCO, I think they are doing a great job. In fact, EOCO for a long time has been weaponised as a political tool going after politicians. But EOCO’s job is not just to deal with politicians because economic crime isn’t just about politicians,” he said.

“I think it is high time they treat the Anti-Money Laundering Act seriously and they treat all the various bits of laws that deal with unexplained wealth seriously,” he added.

Sand-winning site owner responds after police taskforce raid

Correspondence from Ashanti Region

Samuel Oppong Peprah, owner of the sand-winning site at the center of the Bonteso clash, has spoken out to clarify the nature of his business and dispelled accusations of illegal mining. He maintains his operation is entirely legitimate and hopes recent scrutiny will lead to a peaceful resolution.

According to Mr. Peprah, the land was legally acquired years ago from a defunct mining company. “We bought the tailings, the waste material, from Bonte Gold Mines,” he explained, referencing documentation he says proves his claim. “There are no illegal mining pits here. We simply stockpile the sand and load it onto trucks for transport.”

He emphasized that his company’s activities are well-known and benefit the local community. “Most of the buildings around here were built with sand from our site,” he revealed. “We’ve had other task forces visit before, and they always acknowledge that we’re doing nothing wrong.”

Mr. Peprah believes the recent raid was a result of unfamiliarity with his operation. “This new task force was visiting our site for the first time, and I think they mistakenly suspected us of illegal mining,” he stated. “We tried to explain that we’re not involved in any mining activities, but they wouldn’t listen.”

He further revealed that he called upon the arrested assembly member to vouch for the legitimacy of the sand-winning business. “Our sole responsibility is to load the sand,” Mr. Peprah explained, adding that the chiefs even levy the operation for community development initiatives.

With recent visits from NDC executives, GNASSM representatives, and police commanders, Mr. Peprah hopes the truth is becoming clear. “Now that they have seen the site and understand our operation, I am hopeful we can finally have peace of mind to continue our business without fear of unjust accusations,” he concluded.

He further disclosed that the company was dedicated to operating legally and contributing to the well-being of the people.

Akandoh’s actions sent wrong message to victims – Appiah-Danquah – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Private legal practitioner and spokesperson for the Movement for Change, Andrew Appiah-Danquah, has criticised Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh’s conduct following the assault on nurses at Ridge Hospital, arguing that his actions sent the wrong message to the victims and exposed deeper systemic failures in governance and law enforcement.

According to the Ministry’s Head of Communication, Tony Goodman the Minister visited the facility because staff morale was low. But Appiah-Danquah contends that the Minister’s conduct — especially as captured in viral footage showing him hugging and patting the back of the alleged perpetrator — undermined the very purpose of the visit.

“The Minister of Health — you want to tell me that you did not have any briefing on who caused it? Then your actions, beyond the hugging seen on the video, patting the back of the gentleman… If his purpose was to go and raise the morale of the people, then the action he took was not right,” he said on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, August 23.

He stressed that at a time when healthcare workers needed solidarity and assurance, the Minister’s public friendliness toward the alleged attacker sent a damaging signal.

“The job of the politician is not just to shake hands. Even after you were told that this is the perpetrator, to shake him was to signal to the nurses that, ‘I side with your aggressor as against you.’”

Appiah-Danquah further pointed to wider institutional lapses, particularly the police’s failure to act promptly in what he described as a clear criminal situation.

“I think the systemic failure is not just with regards to the hospital itself but with the entire system,” he said, adding “Because the question is: must the Minister call the police before they effect an arrest?”

He insisted that the nature of the incident — an alleged assault and public disturbance — was criminal and should have triggered immediate law enforcement action without political intervention.

“Even without going into the nitty-gritties of the case, there is an alleged assault, which is a crime. There is an alleged disturbance of the peace and public, which is an offence,” he added.

“NDC Has Taken Its Foot Off the Pedal” – Barker-Vormawor Blasts Malik Basintale’s Appointment

0

Oliver Barker-Vormawor has taken aim at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the decision to assign Malik Basintale to what he describes as a bureaucratic role in Accra, arguing that the move undermines Basintale’s true political strength as reported by Ghana Web.

The private legal practitioner and activist believes Basintale’s greatest value to the party lies in grassroots mobilisation rather than handling administrative duties.

According to Barker-Vormawor, Basintale had shown himself to be “a revelation” during the campaign period, earning credibility among young people and energising the party’s base.

He stressed that politics thrives on passion and civic enthusiasm rather than bureaucracy, insisting that the NDC should have positioned Basintale where he could continuously rally support.

“Malik should have been kept outside government. His full-time job should have been deploying him across the country to rally young people,” Barker-Vormawor stated in his post.

Barker-Vormawor warned that shelving Basintale’s ability until election season would weaken the party’s momentum, stating that the NDC has taken its “foot off the pedal” when it comes to grassroots engagement.

He expressed concern that many young supporters now feel sidelined, with several submitting CVs to party offices in hopes of opportunities that may never materialise.

He also cited the example of Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, pointing to his work as the type of energy the NDC should replicate nationwide.

However, returning Basintale to a frontline mobilisation role and resourcing him fully would reinvigorate the base and sustain long-term enthusiasm.

Barker-Vormawor concluded that such strategic choices might unsettle some within the party, but they remain critical for its survival and growth.

Oscar Korbla Mawuli, a young Ghanaian artist who is breaking boundaries with his artwork, has shared how he reacts to criticism surrounding his craft.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb’s Joseph Henry Mensah on Talkertainment on August 18, 2025, Oscar noted that feedback from his audience is an integral part of his work.

‘I don’t mix pleasure with work’ – Korbla Mawuli on painting naked bodies

He explained that he includes nudity in his craft as a sign to attract attention to the story pictured in his drawings.

“I see the criticisms, and they are quite interesting, how people perceive them, and that is one thing about art. It is interesting because art is supposed to speak for itself and get people talking, so when I see these comments.

“I believe the works are actually doing what it is meant to do. For me, nudity in my work is more like a hook to draw people to the concept that the work actually holds,” he said.

Oscar Korbla Mawuli, who currently has a book titled “Anansinisim” which captures most of his art, further noted that he doesn’t consider negative comments about his craft as harsh.

According to him, he sees such criticism as a way for people to want to know more about his craft.

“I honestly don’t see them as harsh. I see them as intrusive, and they really want to learn and know what inspires what I do. I don’t see any comment as harsh,” he added.

Meanwhile, Oscar Mawuli is expected to stage his solo exhibition and book launch at the Accra Arts Center from 6-10 PM.

Guinea military rulers suspend three opposition parties before referendum

Guinea's military ruler Mamady Doumbouya, who took power in a 2021 coup, addresses a news conference Guinea’s military ruler Mamady Doumbouya, who took power in a 2021 coup, addresses a news conference

Guinea‘s military rulers have suspended the country’s three main opposition parties, including that of former President Alpha Conde, in the run-up to a constitutional referendum next month.

The order on Saturday prevents Conde’s Rally of the Guinean People, the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea, led by former Prime Minister Cellou Dalein Diallo, and the Party of Renewal and Progress from engaging in any political activities for 90 days with immediate effect.

“These parties have not fulfilled the obligations required of them,” the order stated.

In a separate order read on state television late on Friday, Guinea’s military rulers also declared that the start of the election campaign period for a revised constitution had been pushed back a week, to August 31.

Since Friday, parties have been allowed to advertise their proposals for a new version of the constitution. The referendum is scheduled for September 21.

The suspension comes as the West African nation’s main parties and civil society groups prepared to hold demonstrations from September 5 to condemn what they see as a power grab by military leader General Mamady Doumbouya.

The country’s opposition has come out against the referendum on a new constitution organised by Doumbouya, who took power in September 2021 when a coup toppled Conde, who had been president for 10 years.

Doumbouya’s military-run government has banned all demonstrations since 2022, and it has arrested, prosecuted or pushed into exile several opposition leaders.

Reporting from Dakar in neighbouring Senegal, Al Jazeera’s Nicolas Haque said that for Guinea’s opposition parties, Saturday’s suspension “strips away any pretence that the transition was actually working to protect democracy”.

“When Colonel Doumbouya came to power in a coup … he promised not only to bolster democracy but to give more space to political parties and civil society,” Haque explained.

“What we’re seeing now is three main political parties – including the one of the former president, Alpha Conde – banned, unable to go out and canvass, to post [on] social media. It feels for them like a clamping down on their voice.”

Haque added that the move will prompt more people to take to the streets in protest. “We’re going to see more people going out on the streets, confronting the security forces,” he said.

A draft constitution was presented to Doumbouya in June.

Its text opens the way to a return to civilian rule, though it does not make clear whether Doumbouya could stand as a candidate in the next presidential election.

A “transition charter” drawn up by the military government shortly after the coup had stipulated that none of its leaders, government members or heads of institutions would be able to stand in elections.

The adoption of a new constitution could do away with that restriction, in a country that has spent decades ruled by dictatorial governments.

Bryan Acheampong will win NPP presidential race – Pius Hadzide

0

Pius Enam Hadzide, aide to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Dr. Bryan Acheampong, says the campaign remains confident of victory in the party’s presidential primaries set for January 31, 2026, despite recent polling figures suggesting otherwise.

Speaking in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News on Friday August 22, Hadzide dismissed concerns over a new Global Info Analytics poll that showed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia leading with 52% support, followed by Kennedy Agyapong with 17%, and Dr. Acheampong with just 3%.

In a bold projection, Hadzide said the campaign team believes delegates will ultimately rally behind Dr. Acheampong as the most suitable candidate to secure victory for the NPP in the 2028 general elections.

“We are confident that by 31st of January 2026, when NPP goes to the polls, the delegates will be convinced that if indeed we are looking for victory in the 2028 elections, then the candidate we must elect is none other than young, bold, decisive, deliverer, Dr. Bryan Acheampong,” Hadzide declared. “We are confident of a victory in January.”

While acknowledging the results of recent polls, Hadzide earlier described such research as potentially misleading and sometimes politically motivated.

“I don’t know about it, but many of these researches are a psychological operation sometimes sponsored by politicians who seek to deceive unsuspecting audiences and to create a misleading impression,” he said, responding to the Global Info Analytics poll.

NDC Spain condemns attack on nurses, urges discipline and compassion in healthcare

0

The Spain branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned the recent attack on nurses at the Ridge Hospital, describing the incident as “unacceptable” and demanding swift justice.

In a statement signed by Branch Secretary Hanson Dartey, the group called on authorities to ensure that the assailant, identified as Ralph, faces the necessary sanctions for his actions.

“We call on the authorities to take immediate action to hold those responsible accountable,” the statement read.

While expressing solidarity with the nurses, the NDC Spain branch also raised concerns about attitudes within the profession, pointing to past instances of neglect and disrespect shown to patients.

The group cited a case in which a family member of one of its members was allegedly treated poorly by a nurse and made disparaging remarks about the patient’s condition.

“We urge the Nurses and Midwives Council to take steps to address such attitudes and ensure that patients are treated with respect and dignity,” the statement continued.

The group emphasised the need for a culture of compassion in healthcare delivery, noting that humane and respectful treatment should be the standard in Ghana’s health facilities.

It urged the Nurses and Midwives Council to proactively promote care and empathy among its members.

The NDC Spain branch welcomed the Minister of Health’s swift condemnation of the attack and the establishment of a committee to investigate the incident.

It called for a thorough probe into the circumstances and urged that concrete recommendations be implemented to prevent future occurrences.

Ghana must tighten laws on unexplained wealth – Appiah-Danquah – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

Ministry of Transport holds 2025 Mid-Year Strategic Review in Ho

0

By Michael Foli Jackidy

Ho (V/R), Aug 23, GNA – The Ministry of Transport has held its 2025 Mid-Year Strategic Review in Ho to assess the progress of programmes and projects being undertaken by its agencies since the beginning of the year.

The review, which brought together all agencies under the Ministry provided an opportunity for them to present updates on their two key priority projects assigned during earlier stakeholder consultations held in February this year.

Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the Minister of Transport, said the exercise was crucial to ensure accountability and delivery on promises made to Ghanaians.

He noted that the presentations highlighted significant progress in critical sectors of transport—maritime, aviation, roads, and railways—stressing that Ghanaians would soon witness the commissioning of massive projects.

“I am highly impressed with the level of work and commitment shown by our agencies. This review has reaffirmed my determination to continue holding each agency accountable, while also providing them the needed support to deliver on their mandate,” he stated.

He said dredging works had commenced at the ports to restore depth and allow larger vessels to dock.

He also announced that a long-standing backlog of uncleared containers had been completely addressed, ensuring smooth cargo movement.

He said the Ministry was repurposing Terminal Two of Kotoka International Airport to decongest Terminal Three and better serve both domestic and international passengers.

Additionally, construction of a nine-storey car park is underway to ease vehicular congestion at the airport.

The Minister said over 266,000 backlog driver’s licence cards have been printed and distributed.

The DVLA has also rolled out a 24-hour service at its Adenta office and is on course to commission 46 satellite offices across the country.

At the Railways, the Western Line construction, from Takoradi Port to Huni Valley, has resumed with contractors returning to site, while the Tema-Mpakadan Railway line is nearing operational readiness.

Plans are in place for three daily train trips on this corridor to ease congestion and boost trade.

He said the Tema Shipyard, once run down, was being revitalised with four vessels currently undergoing maintenance and overhaul.

The Minister described this as a sign of renewed capacity in shipbuilding and repair services.

Mr. Nikpe emphasised that the collective vision was to make Ghana the hub of aviation, maritime, road, and rail transport in the West African sub-region.

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, who joined the review, underscored the broader impact of transport on livelihoods.

“Transport is more than just moving people and goods. It is a driver of economic growth, food security, and job creation. For us in the Volta Region, these improvements are not just infrastructure projects—they are lifelines that connect our farmers, traders, and communities to greater opportunities,” he said.

He reiterated the need to build an inclusive transport system that leaves no community behind and directly supports Ghana’s broader development agenda.

Akufo-Addo gave GFA $3million after 2022 World Cup

0

Former president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Former president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

Jamaludeen A. Abdullah, Executive Assistant to former Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif, has refuted claims that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration failed to make significant investments in sports.

In a social media post, Jamaludeen outlined numerous achievements in the sports sector during the Akufo-Addo era, challenging assertions of neglect.

Abdullah, widely known as Jamal, revealed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports, under Mustapha Ussif’s leadership, allocated $3 million to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

These funds, derived from Ghana’s 2022 World Cup prize money, supported renovation and development projects at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

He emphasized that this financial support was part of the Akufo-Addo government’s commitment to advancing Ghanaian football.

“Unlike the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, where the government retained all prize money, the Akufo-Addo administration allocated approximately $3 million to the GFA to enhance the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence. This aligns with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) legacy of reinvesting World Cup earnings into football development, as seen under President Kufuor in 2006,” his post stated.

Abdullah also highlighted the government’s support for Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the league’s suspension, the Akufo-Addo administration disbursed GH¢900,000, with each GPL club receiving GH¢50,000 to mitigate financial challenges—a pioneering initiative.

Additionally, he said women’s league players received monthly stipends through the Youth Employment Agency, and national team players, including the Black Queens, benefited from targeted support.

Infrastructure and transparency key to road development and 24-hour economy – Prof. Gyasi

0

Associate professor in International Trade and Director of Trade Growth Network, Professor Evans Akwasi Gyasi, has stressed that infrastructure is crucial for the success of the government’s 24-hour economy policy.

Speaking on Prime Morning’s News Flash, he described it as unfortunate that such a critical issue is being discussed at this stage, considering that infrastructure remains the foundation for the policy to succeed. He, however, noted that the government is only eight months old and cannot be entirely blamed, adding that it is commendable that steps have been taken swiftly.

“The good thing is, they have acted swiftly, and I think the issues around mobilization have been resolved. Funds have been released, and we hope this will be the last of it so contractors do not abandon projects. Money must be released on time so passengers do not suffer for the negligence of those who ought to act in the nation’s interest,” he remarked.

Addressing why successive governments often abandon road projects started by their predecessors, Prof. Gyasi attributed the problem to a lack of transparency. He explained that some projects are handled in secrecy even though the public funds them.

“NDC will come, NPP will come and go, but these roads are for us, the Ghanaian people. If there are no secrets and we know where the money is coming from, whether it is NDC or NPP, the roads should continue,” he stated.

Citing the 2016 transition when contractors were asked to halt projects for review, he noted that some contractors waited two to three years without payment, a practice he says still persists, although not on the same scale.

Prof. Gyasi insisted that once contracts are awarded and value-for-money audits are conducted, contractors must deliver.

“Whether there is a new government or not, contractors must do their jobs, and funds should be released according to agreed timelines established before contracts are signed,” he emphasized.

Afriyie Ankrah calls for TVET focus, urges prophets to envision Ghana’s progress

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah is the Presidential Envoy for Inter-Faith and Ecumenical Relations Elvis Afriyie Ankrah is the Presidential Envoy for Inter-Faith and Ecumenical Relations

Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has urged Ghanaians to embrace Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a pathway to national transformation.

Speaking at the launch of a TVET school in honour of Cardinal Appiah Turkson’s late brother, Dr J. Kofi Turkson, he noted that countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan were once on the same economic footing as Ghana at independence but have since surpassed it by prioritising TVET.

“My hope and belief is that, with President Mahama’s vision, Ghana can achieve similar progress. I even pray that our prophets will begin to see visions of Ghana becoming like Malaysia and Singapore – and not just visions of death,” he said.

‘Enough of your death prophecies, my office isn’t for receiving prophecies’ – Elvis Afriyie Ankrah

Afriyie Ankrah also used the occasion to clarify his new role, emphasizing that as Presidential Envoy, his mandate is to promote interfaith and ecumenical dialogue, not to receive prophecies, as has been suggested in some circles.

He explained that the issue of prophecy only emerged as an emergency intervention following the wave of doomsday predictions that flooded the country after the tragic helicopter crash, which claimed the lives of eight gallant men on national assignment.

Family cries out after discovering their missing daughter has been living with ‘African’ Tribe in bushes of Scotland

0

The family of Kaura Taylor, a missing Texas woman recently discovered living with a self-proclaimed “African” tribe in the Scottish Highlands, says they fear she has been manipulated by the group’s leaders, a couple calling themselves King Atehene and Queen Nandi — and are growing deeply concerned about her well-being.

Taylor, 21, now goes by “Asnat, Lady Safi, of Atehene” and lives in the so-called Kingdom of Kubala, a claimed patch of forest near Jedburgh, Scotland. She reportedly serves as a handmaiden to Queen Nandi.

“She went missing in May. But she wasn’t missing at all, she left to go live with these people,” Taylor’s aunt Vandora Skinner told The Independent.

“It is very stressful and difficult. It breaks our heart. We’re overly concerned about Kaura, but she doesn’t think anyone is concerned about her,” her other aunt, Teri Allen, added.

Taylor, a single mother to a one-year-old, left Texas on May 25 and entered the UK on a six-month tourist visa. Relatives only learned of her new life after she vanished, leaving a cryptic message saying she and her daughter “had to get out and explore a little bit.”

Allen described her niece’s upbringing as “very sheltered and protected.” She added, “She was brought up in church, but not their religion. Not this thing that they got going. It’s a bunch of hogwash.”

According to reports, Taylor first connected with the “kingdom” in 2023 via a Facebook group linked to a high school acquaintance.

The Kingdom of Kubala is led by Kofi Offeh, an opera singer from Ghana who calls himself King Atehene, and his wife Jean Gasho, a mother of seven who goes by Queen Nandi. The group claims to be descendants of a lost Hebrew tribe returning to reclaim land allegedly taken from their ancestors over 400 years ago.

Taylor has defended her decision to stay with the group, claiming she fled abuse at home. In a Facebook post dated August 20, she wrote:

“Yes, I’m very happy with my King and Queen. I was never missing. I fled a very abusive, toxic family who abused me sexually since I was a child! So you don’t go ‘missing’ to your abusers.”

Scottish Borders Council confirmed it is “working with Police Scotland” regarding Taylor and the group, saying it has provided “advice and information about housing options and other support services.”

Taylor’s family hopes she will return to Texas when her visa expires in November.

“Minister would have resigned elsewhere” – Adomako Kissi – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has criticised the handling of the recent assault on health workers  at Ridge Hospital, saying the incident reflects a deep systemic failure in Ghana’s healthcare security framework.

Speaking on Channel  One  TV‘s The Big Issue on Saturday August 23, he noted that in other countries, such a breach of hospital safety would have warranted the resignation of the Health Minister, regardless of political affiliation.

“In other jurisdictions, trust me, the minister would have resigned—Australia, other jurisdictions—because of this incident. It’s not about [Health Minister] Akandoh. It is about the fact that this is a system failure,” he said.

His comments follow the violent altercation on August 17, where nurses and medical staff at Ridge Hospital’s emergency unit were assaulted by relatives of a patient, sparking public outrage and renewed calls for better hospital security.

Dr Kissi, who is also a medical doctor, said the lack of adequate security in emergency areas in health facilities is unacceptable and pointed to a broader issue that goes beyond any individual minister.

“Hospitals should have good security to begin with—especially emergency areas,” he stressed. “There was a flaw in security system at Ridge.”

He also criticised the Health Ministry’s response, particularly the lack of thorough briefing and engagement with those directly affected before the Minister’s visit to the hospital.

“I’m not happy with the preparation before the minister visited the hospital. There should be appropriate briefing which should have involved the characters involved.”

Meanwhile, Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has set up a committee to investigate the Ridge Hospital incident, giving them a one-week ultimatum to present their findings and recommendations.

Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, a nurse at Ridge Hospital assaulted during the violent incident has also filed a GHS 7 million civil lawsuit against social media personality and activist Ralph Saint Williams, also known as “Ralph De Fellow Ghanaian,” for alleged physical assault and defamation.

Archbishop urges President Mahama to end illegal mining

0

By Albert Oppong-Ansah

Accra, Aug. 16, GNA – The Catholic Archbishop of Accra has urged President John Mahama to use his executive powers to bring an end to illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Most Reverend John Bonaventure Kwofie described galamsey as a “devilish business” that continues to destroy human lives, farmlands and water bodies across the country.

The Archbishop made the call in a homily during a Eucharistic celebration to mark the Feast of the Assumption of Mary at the Christ the King Parish in Accra.

Most Rev. Bonaventure said the rising number of deaths linked to the practice required urgent and decisive intervention from the highest office.

He recalled that as far back as the 1980s, the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference had actively campaigned against galamsey through peaceful marches and public advocacy.

“Sadly, our persistent voices seemed to have fallen on deaf ears, as the practice continues with devastating consequences,” he said.

Most Rev. Bonaventure stressed that while mining could contribute meaningfully to national development if done responsibly, the current scale of illegal mining was unsustainable and posed a direct threat to future generations.

“We are pleading with the President to act. Enough lives have been lost, and the time has come to stop this destructive practice once and for all,” he added.

Galamsey has been widely blamed for polluting major rivers such as the Pra, Ankobra and Offin, which serve as vital sources of drinking water for millions.

Farmers in several affected regions have also reported losing farmlands to irresponsible mining activity.

Although various governments have launched anti-galamsey campaigns, including the deployment of the military-led Operation Vanguard, the results have been limited, with the activity persisting despite arrests and equipment seizures.

The Church’s call adds to ongoing appeals from civil society groups, traditional authorities and environmental advocates for stricter law enforcement and the promotion of alternative livelihoods for the youth.

On August 6, eight individuals – including senior government officials and military personnel – died in a helicopter crash while on a mission to launch a new initiative against illegal mining in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region.

Bryan Acheampong will win NPP presidential race – Pius Hadzide – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

Obaapa Christy drops 15th studio album “Odeneho” featuring Sarkodie

0

In a time when the music industry is shifting toward quick singles and viral moments, Ghanaian gospel powerhouse Obaapa Christy has taken a bold step in the opposite direction, delivering not just a song, but a full spiritual experience.

Her 15th studio album, Odeneho (The Sovereign One), was released on July 31, 2025, and it’s already making waves across both gospel and secular circles.

But it wasn’t just the album that got people talking. It was the moment the world saw Obaapa Christy and Sarkodie, two giants from different ends of Ghana’s musical spectrum, come together on a track that is now being called a spiritual crossover, “Odeneho.”

“This was more than a feature. It was a testimony,” Sarkodie reacted to the collaboration.

The track is raw, reverent, and real. Sarkodie, known for his lyrical precision, opens up like never before, pouring out one of the most emotional verses of his career. According to him, this wasn’t just a studio job, it was a “bucket list achievement.”

“If you see how Sarkodie sang ‘Odeneho’ with such emotion,” Obaapa Christy shared, “you’d know he truly loves God. I’ve never seen him sing with so much feeling. God bless him.”

A short teaser of the music video has already gone viral, sparking a wave of curiosity and anticipation. Both artistes promise the full video is coming soon, and it’s set to be more than a visual; it’s a testimony.

Meanwhile, Odeneho is not just a collection of songs, it’s a spiritual journey. With 12 tracks that cover themes of hope, worship, thanksgiving, and personal breakthrough, the album feels like a modern-day psalm book.

Among the standout tracks is “No Weapon”, a soul-piercing message of resilience and spiritual warfare. The official video is slated for release on September 4, 2025, and fans are already calling it one of the most comforting gospel songs in recent memory.

Other powerful tracks include: “Gyae Su” ft. Brother Sammy – a cry of comfort; “Thank You Jesus” ft. Junior (Obaapa Christy’s 2nd Son) – a celebration of gratitude.; “Yesu Mo”, “Waye Yie Nwom Ni”, and “Omma Me Nte Nhwe” – solo works full of depth and fire among others.

A Night to Remember: The Official Launch:

The Alisa Hotel in Accra set the stage for a historic launch event. The red carpet was lined with celebrities, politicians, and spiritual leaders, a rare fusion of entertainment and ministry.

Attendees included Kwabena Kwabena, Dr. Likee, Andy Dosty, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Sammy Awuku, Kwame A Plus, loved ones and a host of pastors who filled the room with prayer and presence.

What was supposed to be a launch became a night of worship, testimonies, and heartfelt music, a true reflection of Obaapa Christy’s identity as both an artist and a minister.

Why An Album — and Why Now?

In an exclusive reflection, Obaapa Christy shared what makes this release so significant in an era dominated by singles and streaming stats:

“God gives me songs, in dreams, in worship, during church services, driving in a car, listening to other songs, even in silence. I’ve had songs sitting in the studio for years, waiting for the right time. I don’t want to serve snacks; I want to offer a full spiritual meal. That’s why I do albums.”

And that decision wasn’t just personal, it was spiritual. After her powerful collaboration with Prof. Kofi Abraham on “Wiase Mu Abrabo”, gospel legends began reaching out. Many asked her to help revive their classic songs, not for fame, but to keep the fire burning for future generations.

“They don’t want to be forgotten,” she said. “They want today’s youth to feel the power that moved crowds decades ago. I owe it to them.”

Prof. Kofi Abraham himself responded with deep admiration: “She’s not just singing. She’s preserving history. Gospel music is safe in her hands.”

More Than Music – A Ministry of Memory;

Obaapa Christy’s Odeneho is not just an album; it’s a bridge between generations, a movement that honours the past while pointing to the future. It reminds listeners that the gospel is not about trends, it’s about truth. And sometimes, truth sounds like worship, rap, drums, tears, or even silence.

From her early days with “Me Te Ase”, to this landmark 15th album, Rev. Obaapa Christy has carried one mission: to uplift souls and draw people closer to God.

“This is more than music. It’s ministry. It’s memory. It’s me answering my calling.” – Obaapa Christy

Now available on all digital streaming platforms! Stream or download Obaapa Christy’s new album ODENEHO today and be blessed by every song. May the good Lord/Allah pour His everlasting blessings upon you as you listen.

Goodman stated that the committee, which was formed by health minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has completed its work.

“Yesterday, we were ready with the report. By Monday, the team will submit the report to the minister,” Goodman said.

He explained that the committee examined various aspects of the incident, including “the system issues, the cause of the delay, and what exactly happened at the hospital.”

It would be recalled that the health minister mandated the committee to complete its investigation within one week, following public outrage over a viral video that showed a violent altercation between a patient’s relatives and medical staff in the hospital’s emergency department.

NDC wasted Malik Basintale’s true talent – Barker-Vormawor

0

Convener of the #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has questioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s decision to appoint Malik Basintale to a bureaucratic role in government, describing it as “one of the least strategic decisions” ever made by the party.

In a lengthy Facebook post sighted by MyNewsGh, Barker-Vormawor argued that Basintale’s strength lies in grassroots mobilisation and emotional connection with young people, rather than administrative work.

Stephen Amoah awards scholarships to 165 tertiary students in Nhyiaeso – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has awarded scholarships to 165 students in his constituency to support their education.

The ceremony, held on August 22, 2025, at the State Experimental School in Kumasi, saw beneficiaries drawn from institutions such as the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Garden City University College, University of Ghana, as well as other tertiary institutions across the country.

Speaking to the media after the event, Dr. Amoah reaffirmed his commitment to supporting bright but financially challenged students to pursue their academic dreams.

He noted that the initiative seeks to create a conducive learning environment for students, ensuring they are not distracted by financial difficulties.

“My main focus is on the Human Development Index, ensuring that we develop the human resource in the constituency. Once one has the ability, they can perform any task in this world to survive economically,” he stated.

Dr. Amoah further emphasised that the scholarship programme is not limited to supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but is open to all deserving students, regardless of political affiliation.

“The scholarship is not party-specific, but I must be honest with you: NPP members benefit more because they apply. When they apply, we don’t even know their background, but we give to all of them.

“We don’t look at faces, we don’t look at height, and we don’t look at one’s social status. We only ensure that we have enough resources to support students in tertiary institutions,” he added.

Don’t lose faith in God – Obuobia Darko-Opoku consoles families of 16 children who lost their lives in Obogu crash

0

The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, has shared a heartfelt message of comfort with the families of the sixteen children who tragically perished in a road accident while returning home from a church program.

The accident occurred on Monday, July 28, along the Juaso-Nkawkaw stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway, as the children were returning from the annual gathering of the Saviour Church of Ghana, Obogu branch, in the Asante Akyem South Municipality.

As part of her birthday celebration, Madam Obuobia visited the bereaved families and the church community to commiserate with them, offering both words of encouragement and donations worth thousands of cedis.

The items included bags of foodstuffs and essential supplies.

In her message, she urged the grieving families not to lose faith in God or in the church despite the devastating loss.

“The Bible says that in all things we should give thanks. It didn’t say give thanks for some things, but in all things,” she reminded them.

Acknowledging the pain and questions the families may be grappling with, she added:

“I know this incident will challenge your faith. You’ll ask why, especially when these children were just returning from the presence of God after serving Him. But in all things, God has His ways and His timing.”

Madam Obuobia also shared her own personal struggles to strengthen the families’ faith:

“From January till date, I’ve known no peace. I’ve been tested in many ways. Yet, I go before God daily, asking for His strength and light. It is only His grace that keeps me standing.”

She encouraged the families to see this tragedy as a test of faith, she said.

“Take this incident as God testing your faith and waiting to see if you can stand the test of time. And I pray that the Lord gives you the strength to bear this huge loss.”

Her visit, marked by both compassion and generosity, left many comforted as she stood with the bereaved during their darkest hour.

Step away from danger at work – GRNMA to Nurses – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

The Greater Accra Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Jefferson Asare, has urged nurses to step away from unsafe work environments if they feel threatened, following last week’s violent assault on staff at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge).

Speaking on The Big Issue on Saturday, August 23, Asare stressed that the Labour Act empowers health workers to protect themselves when their safety is at risk.

“This information is to every nurse: at any point in time when you feel the environment in which you serve is not safe, please take yourself out of that environment. The Labour Act supports this — it is explicit that if the environment is harmful, you must take yourself off it, not necessarily go home,” he said.

He disclosed that Ridge Hospital alone has recorded no fewer than five separate attacks on nurses this year, describing the trend as deeply troubling.

“I am not saying they shouldn’t go to work again. But if you have about 50 rowdy men in the small space of the emergency ward, and you still stand there to work, they can kill you. In such cases, put yourself out of that environment,” he cautioned.

The comments follow a viral video showing a violent clash between relatives of a patient and staff at Ridge’s emergency department, which has reignited public concern over the safety of health workers.

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has since set up a committee to investigate the incident, directing it to submit its report by Monday, August 25.

Meanwhile, one of the victims, nurse Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, has filed a GHS 7 million civil lawsuit against social media personality Ralph Saint Williams, also known as Ralph De Fellow Ghanaian, for alleged assault and defamation linked to the incident.

Apologise to Ghanaians for poor handling of cocoa sector – Prof Bokpin jabs NPP, NDC

Professor of Finance at the University of Ghana Business School, Professor Godfred Alufar Bokpin, has heavily criticised both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he calls the “poor management” of Ghana’s cocoa sector.

Speaking on the JoyNews program Newsfile on Saturday, August 23, Professor Bokpin argued that successive governments have failed farmers and the nation through short-sighted policies and politically motivated pricing.

Higher cocoa prices unlikely to benefit Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire – Fitch Solutions

“Both the NPP and NDC owe Ghanaians an apology big time for their handling of the sector,” he asserted.

According to the economist, the recent controversy over the new cocoa producer price is merely a symptom of a deeper, systemic problem.

He stated that the cocoa industry, once the backbone of Ghana’s economy, has been weakened by a lack of investment, poor transparency, and an unsustainable pricing model that fails to adequately reward farmers for their hard work.

Why Mahama has called on Japan to revamp Ghana’s cocoa processing plant

“We cannot continue like this. Farmers are treated unfairly, promises are made and broken, and the sector is left vulnerable,” he said.

Professor Bokpin called for a bipartisan approach to reform the cocoa sector, emphasising that the industry needs a “structural overhaul, accountability, and a new vision that treats farmers as true stakeholders” to survive and remain competitive globally.

Mr Eazi to release new single ‘Casanova’ in September – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Grammy-winning afropop star Mr Eazi returns with “Casanova,” the new single from his forthcoming Maison Rouge EP, set for release this September via emPawa Africa.

“Casanova,” which was produced by Ghana’s TMXO and Nigerian super producer Kel-P, is a playful yet emotionally revealing track about love, temptation, and self-awareness. Inspired by real conversations and moments of vulnerability, the song explores the tension between loyalty and attraction, honesty and misunderstanding. It’s a confession, both cheeky and sincere, about being drawn to women but wanting to hold onto the one he truly loves.

“Casanova is me being honest in the most unfiltered way,” Mr Eazi says. “I’m saying, ‘Yes, I love women, but my heart is with you.’ It’s about the reality of relationships and how we navigate our flaws, temptations, and the little things that can make or break love.”

The track is supported by an artful music video shot in Spain by director Ademola Falomo (Tems, Davido, Joeboy). Packing a movie’s worth of plot and intrigue into its 2 ½ minute run time, the “Casanova” visual follows the travails of a cab driver who finds himself in the crosshairs of a jealous wife after she catches him with another woman without knowing the full details behind their rendezvous. Blending humor, flirtation, and a hint of suspense with colorful urban backdrops, intimate close-ups, and a lighthearted storyline, the visuals bring the song’s cheeky and romantic spirit to life.

“‘Casanova is a playful record but it’s also about that moment when someone catches you off guard” says Mr Eazi, who previously tapped Falomo to direct his “Patek” (2022) and “E Be Mad” (2021) videos. “I wanted the video to feel like a little movie with twists, laughs, and energy. Barcelona gave us the perfect mix of romance and chaos, and Demola captured that perfectly.”

“Casanova,” along with the rest of Eazi’s forthcoming Maison Rouge EP, was recorded in Cotonou, Benin, at the titular Hotel Maison Rouge, which became a creative oasis for Mr Eazi while working on his 2023 album slash art project, The Evil Genius.

“Casanova” follows the July release of “Corny,” a mellow, emotionally honest love song which showcases Mr Eazi’s signature blend of vulnerability and melody, and “Attention,” Eazi’s contribution to this summer’s blockbuster F1 movie soundtrack.

“Casanova” is OUT NOW on all DSPs.

Medical Director should have been sacked – BPS – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

The Executive Secretary of the Bureau of Public Safety, Dr. Nana Yaw Akwada, has criticised Ridge Hospital’s leadership following the recent assault on nurses, insisting that the Medical Director should have already been relieved of her post.

Dr. Akwada said the August 17 attack, in which relatives of a patient allegedly assaulted staff at the hospital’s emergency unit, highlights a serious breach in hospital security that warrants accountability.

“If I were the Minister of Health, considering all this talk about accountability, the Medical Director would be cooling off at home by now to start with — because security has been breached,” he said in an interview on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, August 23.

He further questioned why a major hospital like Ridge, situated in the capital and designated as a regional facility, still lacks proper security infrastructure in 2025.

“It doesn’t make sense to me that in 2025, a hospital such as Ridge has no security systems in place,” he stated.

Dr. Akwada added that removing the Medical Director would have sent a strong message to healthcare leaders nationwide about the importance of safeguarding staff and patients.

“The Medical Director should be cooling off at home, and it should send a signal to all medical directors to put in place proper security systems within their health facilities to ensure that these things do not occur,” he emphasised.

Kwesi Botchwey Jnr, an aide to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has stated that the campaign team for former Vice President will not become complacent, despite a new poll that positions him as the frontrunner in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race.

The comments follow the release of a Global Info Analytics survey on August 21, 2025, which indicates that Dr Bawumia leads the race to become the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

According to the poll, Dr Bawumia garnered 52% of support among NPP delegates, while his closest competitor, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, received 17%.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, on August 22, Botchwey Jnr acknowledged the poll’s findings but emphasised that the team is not getting “flattered or swollen-headed.”

He views the results as a “call to action” and a form of positive feedback from the grassroots.

“We believe it’s a true reflection of what is happening on the ground. When you engage the delegates, they want a winnable candidate,” he said.

He added that the team will continue to intensify its efforts to increase the lead.

Other candidates received significantly less support in the poll: Dr. Bryan Acheampong polled 3%, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum received 1%, and Kwabena Agyapong, Boakye Agyarko, and Addai Nimo each polled less than 1%.

Akandoh didn’t know Ralph before handshake – Tony Goodman – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

The Head of Communications at the Ministry of Health, Tony Goodman, has rejected suggestions that Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh was aware of Ralph St. William’s identity prior to shaking hands with the social media activist accused of assaulting a health worker.

The clarification comes after a video circulated showing the minister exchanging pleasantries with the suspect at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, shortly after meeting hospital authorities over the alleged incident. The viral footage followed a violent altercation between relatives of a patient and medical staff at the hospital’s emergency department.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Saturday, August 23, Mr. Goodman explained that the minister only realised the activist’s identity after the handshake.

“After the handshake, I told the minister that this is the Ralph guy, and he asked me if I was sure. I confirmed, and he then questioned him on why he did that. Ralph responded that he would come to the office to explain. So, for anybody to think that the handshake came after the action, it is wrong. He didn’t know the guy until I prompted him,” Mr. Goodman stated.

He added that the minister was merely extending courtesy expected of a public official and was not endorsing the alleged assault. Mr. Goodman also noted that Ralph’s behaviour was unsettling, observing that the activist was “laughing and shaking hands with everybody,” which prompted him to step back.

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh had earlier defended his actions during a press briefing on Thursday, August 21, insisting that the handshake was part of his duties as a public servant and should not be misinterpreted.

Meanwhile, Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, a nurse assaulted at Ridge Hospital during the August 17 incident, has filed a GHS 7 million civil lawsuit against Ralph St. Williams for alleged physical assault and defamation.

RNAQ Food Bank: Adjetey Anang and Gloria Sarfo serve up hope in the community

0

Ghanaian screen icons Gloria Sarfo and Adjetey Anang have demonstrated their commitment to uplifting the Ghanaian community.

They took part in the launch of the RNAQ Foundation food banks in Madina and Odorkor, respectively, by serving hot meals to those in need.

This act of service highlights the power of celebrity influence when channeled toward positive social impact.

This initiative, spearheaded by Richard Nii Armah Quaye, founder of the RNAQ Foundation, is a direct response to the pressing issue of food insecurity in Ghana.

The food banks aim to provide free, nutritious meals to thousands of Ghanaians, embodying a vision where no one goes to bed hungry.

This commitment extends to supporting vulnerable populations, including homeless children, less privileged parents struggling to make ends meet, and individuals facing temporary food insecurity due to unforeseen circumstances.

The project’s core principle is rooted in the belief that access to basic necessities, such as food, is a fundamental human right.

During the launch of the event on August 1, 2025, held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, Mr. Quaye shared his vision and the driving force behind the RNAQ Foundation food bank. He pledged to sustain the Food Bank Project, committing 90 per cent of the dividends from his diverse business ventures to ensure its longevity and expansion across Ghana.

This financial commitment underscores the foundation’s dedication and the founder’s personal investment in its success.

The goal is not only to provide immediate relief but also to create a sustainable system that addresses the root causes of hunger and poverty.

The “One Celebrity, One Ladle” theme highlights the involvement of figures like Gloria Sarfo and Adjetey Anang and serves as a powerful symbol.

It’s a reminder that even small acts of kindness, when amplified by the reach and influence of public figures, can create a ripple effect of positive change. This initiative is a testament to the power of community, compassion, and the belief that everyone deserves a warm meal and a reason to smile.

It is a call to action, inviting others to join the movement and contribute to a future where food security is a reality for all Ghanaians.

University of Ghana Stadium to host second edition of Democracy Cup

0

The second edition of the Democracy Cup will now be held at the University of Ghana Stadium, following a change in venue and date announced by Parliament.

Originally slated for August 29 at the Accra Sports Stadium, the fixture has been rescheduled to September 5 and will see Accra Hearts of Oak lock horns with city rivals Accra Great Olympics.

The Democracy Cup, an initiative of Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, uses football as a platform to promote the values of democracy, unity, and civic engagement.

Explaining the decision, Parliament stated, “The decision to reschedule was made after careful consideration to ensure optimal facilities, security, and a premier experience for spectators, players, and supporters nationwide.

“The University of Ghana Sports Stadium offers premier amenities and a capacious environment to host this high-profile contest in the spirit of fair play, sportsmanship, and peaceful civic engagement.”

Last year’s inaugural edition was held at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Asante Kotoko narrowly defeated Hearts of Oak to lift the trophy.
