0

Samuel Kwaku Gyamfi Gariba has been selected to proudly represent Ghana at the 2025 World Robofest Championship in Michigan, United States of America (USA).

Now a student of Our Lady of Grace Senior High School in Mamponteng, located in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region, Samuel is part of a team competing at the prestigious global robotics competition.

The 16-year-old rose to national recognition three years ago after emerging as the winner of the Literacy Challenge while he was a Junior High School student at D&D Academy.

Reflecting on his journey, Samuel highlights how the Literacy Challenge played a pivotal role in shaping his passion for technology.
“When preparing for the literacy challenge, I had to research topics like robotics, AI, and basically how electronics work, so preparing for the Literacy Challenge helped me.

“During that time, I learnt a lot of the skills that I am using now. I won’t view the Literacy Challenge as a competition but as an experience,” he said.

Accra, May 15, GNA- The Government has announced plans to institutionalise an Annual Performance Ranking Index for agencies under the Office of Government Machinery (OGM) to improve service delivery and transparency in their operations.

The initiative also intends to enhance transparent tracking of institutional performance of the agencies and incentivise continuous improvement in their service delivery.

Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the President, made this known during an Information Dissemination Session of the 2024 Public Opinion Survey Report in Accra on Wednesday.

The survey was conducted between October and December 2024 across the 16 regions to assess the level of public awareness of the existence, functions and services provided by the OGM agencies.

It was also to gauge public perceptions about the transparency, accessibility and responsiveness of the agencies and evaluate public satisfaction and efficiency of their services.

The OGM institutions are the central coordinating engine and operational arm of the Executive, which support the Presidency in policy implementation.

Madam Juliana Ama Kplorfia, Head of Research, Statistics and Information Management, Office of the President, presented the research findings and recommendations to chief directors, directors and representatives of the agencies.

Another 42 per cent said they had not received any services from OGM agencies, while 23 per cent said they may have received services but were unaware that those services came from OGM agencies.

On the effectiveness in fulfilling their mandates and objectives, 56 percent of the respondents viewed the agencies as effective while 44 per cent considered them ineffective.

With regard to transparency, only four per cent considered the agencies as “very transparent, nine per cent said they were “transparent” and 49 per cent believed they were either “not transparent” or “not transparent at all”.

On service accessibility, 40 per cent described the agencies as “somewhat accessible” while 12 per cent and six per cent described them as “accessible and “very accessible”, respectively.

However, 24 per cent of the respondents said the agencies’ services were “somewhat not accessible” and 18 per cent believed their services were “not accessible at all”.

The OGM Agencies are the operation arm of the Presidency that support the Executive branch of government to implement policy interventions to improve services to the citizens and enhance living standards.

The research saw over 1,000 responses from across the 16 regions of Ghana.

It used focus group discussions and interviews as well as online platforms for respondents to answer the questionnaires.

Some of the destroyed houses

About Fifteen (15) houses have been burnt by some unknown persons at Kogni Yapala, in the Sagnarigu Municipality of the Northern Region.

The burning of the houses is alleged to be related to a long-standing land dispute between Kogni Yapala and Janjori-Kukuo communities.

The situation resulted in the destruction of houses, farm produce, motorbikes and other properties belonging to residents of the Kogni Yapala community.

The Assemblyman for Yilonayili-Kogni Yapala Electoral Area, Osman Jato Alfred, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said the entire community is living in fear and panic.

According to him, the community believes the attack is as a result of the outstanding land dispute between the two communities.

He indicated that police presence have been beefed up in the Kogni Yapala community to protect lives and property.

The Assemblyman for Yilonayili-Kogni Yapala Electoral Area, however, called on authorities to, as a matter of urgency, resolve the dispute to avert any future attacks.

“I am appealing to the authorities to intervene and ensure that peace prevail, because three other communities are indirectly affected. I believe we don’t want to sit unconcerned for any disaster to happen,” he added.

Police re-arraign VDM over cyberbullying of Nollywood actresses, others

0

The Police on Thursday re-arraigned controversial social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, before a Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly cyberbullying Nollywood actresses, Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh.

The social activist is also accused of cyberbullying Nigerian producer and singer Samuel Oguachuba, popularly called Samklef, among others.

VDM was re-arraigned before Justice Musa Liman on a five-count charge to which he pleaded not guilty.

Recall that VDM was first arraigned on May 22, 2024, before Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon for the same offences, which are contrary to and punishable under Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

He was remanded in custody but later granted bail of ₦10 million on June 10, 2024. The bail conditions required two sureties who must either be employees of a reputable company or Level 17 officers in the federal civil service with evidence of three years’ tax clearance.

The charges, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/140/2024, dated and filed on March 28, 2024, were re-assigned to Justice Liman following Justice Olajuwon’s transfer to another division of the Federal High Court.

In the first count, VDM is alleged to have, on or about October 13, 2023, intentionally published a video on his Instagram handle (@verydarkblackman) containing threatening and bullying remarks aimed at Samuel Oguachuba.

The second count accuses him of intentionally posting videos on or about October 29, 2023, via his Instagram handle, which contained grossly offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing information against Iyabo Ojo.

In the video, VDM allegedly claimed that “one Iyabo Ojo is having an indecent sexual relationship with her daughter.”

In the third count, VDM is accused of knowingly publishing a false claim on January 19, 2024, that “King Tonto Dikeh is involved in the criminal conversion of the proceeds from the crowdfunding for the Justice for Mobbad Movement and is the person behind the Gistlover blog.”

The fourth count alleges that on March 19, 2024, the defendant intentionally posted videos on his Instagram handle containing insulting and annoying remarks about the Deputy Inspectors General of Police and lawmakers in the National Assembly.

After his re-arraignment before Justice Liman, VDM’s counsel, Deji Adeyanju, requested that his client be allowed to remain on the bail conditions previously granted by Justice Olajuwon.

Police counsel Victor Okoye did not oppose the request.

Justice Liman upheld the earlier bail terms and adjourned the matter until July 24, 2025, for trial.

Acting Chief Justice warns Enchi District Court Judge over galamsey excavators

0

The Acting Chief Justice of Ghana, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has issued a warning to the Enchi District Court Judge, Lawrence Buenor Buer, following a petition by Sulemana Issifu, Director of the Research Centre for Climate Change and Food Security.

The petition, dated April 6, 2025, demanded Buer’s removal for alleged incompetence in handling a case involving illegal miners (galamseyers) and excavators.

In a letter dated May 13, 2025, signed by Dr Cyriacus Badinye Bapuuroh, Acting Judicial Secretary, the Office of the Judicial Secretary confirmed that the petition had been received and the issues raised were duly appreciated.

The letter stated that Judge Buer has been warned to exercise circumspection in his judicial decisions.

Additionally, a refresher course will be organised for the magistrate to update his knowledge of laws related to mining.

“I have been directed by the Hon. Acting Chief Justice to inform you that your petition has been received and the issues raised duly appreciated.

“I have further been directed to inform you that the Judge has been warned to exercise circumspection in his judicial decisions. Also, the necessary refresher course will be organised for the Magistrate to update his knowledge of the law on mining and related laws,” the letter said.

Issifu, in a statement, accused Buer of corruption in initially releasing some arrested galamseyers and seized excavators, alleging the decision was not based on law but motivated by ulterior motives.

He argued that Buer’s backtracking after public backlash further indicated the ruling’s lack of legal grounding, stripping the judge of judicial protection.

Issifu also revealed that he had filed a separate petition with the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate Buer for possible corruption.

Expressing broader concerns about the judiciary, Issifu described it as the “most under-scrutinised arm of government,” asserting that its lack of accountability allows misconduct to persist.

He emphasised the judiciary’s critical role in combating corruption and galamsey, warning that he will continue to monitor judges’ conduct and take action if foul play is suspected.

NCCE, GHS sensitise public on importance of infant vaccination

0

By Eugenia Otenwaa

Accra, May 15, GNA – The Ga West Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) have held a sensitisation campaign to educate residents on the importance of infant vaccination.

The campaign aims to highlight the role of vaccination in child health and development.

The initiative follows a decline in the number of children vaccinated with the Penta 3 vaccine last year compared to previous years in the municipality.

The vaccine, administered in three doses, with the final dose at 14 weeks, protects against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, haemophilus influenzae type B, and hepatitis B.

Madam Edith Awudor, NCCE Municipal Director for Ga West, said the event was part of the African Vaccination and Child Health Promotion Week.

She said that the campaign was to support the GHS efforts to sensitise parents about the importance of early childhood vaccination.

“Our goal is prevention – ensuring children don’t suffer from diseases that are entirely preventable through timely immunisation,” she added.

Madam Lucy Akafia, Disease Control Officer, Ga West Municipal Health Directorate, urged caregivers to ensure infants receive all required vaccinations and are regularly weighed.

She stressed that these practices support infant growth and well-being.

“We are engaging everybody—the mother, the father…we call it male involvement. We expect that if the mother is not there, the father can bring the child to the weighing,” she said.

Madam Akafia said continuous public education would help achieve the 95 per cent vaccination target and herd immunity in the municipality.

“We can be able to achieve our target through education and also we can be able to achieve our herd immunity,” she stated.

Child Health Promotion Week, celebrated every May, raises awareness of exclusive breastfeeding, immunisation, and maternal healthcare.

This year’s theme is “Every Child Deserves a Healthy Future. Invest in your Child, Attend Weighing Regularly.”

Ashanti GNASSM appeals to the government over concession crisis, citing millions at risk

0

GNASSM has appealed to John Mahama (L) and Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah over the crisis GNASSM has appealed to John Mahama (L) and Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah over the crisis

Three million livelihoods are on the line as small-scale miners in Ghana’s Ashanti Region make a desperate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama and Lands Minister Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, warning that a shortage of mining concessions is pushing them to the brink.

“We’re losing everything!” declared Felix Yaw Andam, spokesperson for the group, capturing the sense of panic among Ashanti mining communities. Miners say the scarcity of accessible land, much of it tied up in leases held by multinational corporations and large domestic firms, is strangling their operations.

The situation extends far beyond simple economics. Andam emphasizes that the crisis directly threatens the survival of over three million young Ghanaians who rely on the small-scale mining sector for their families’ income. Further exacerbating the situation, the miners allege, is the ongoing harassment and intimidation they face from security personnel at the mining sites.

Despite these severe challenges, the miners are keen to demonstrate their commitment to responsible practices and reiterate their support for the government’s campaign against illegal “galamsey” mining.

They also emphasize their essential contribution to the local economy through the generation of significant tax revenue, which underpins crucial development projects and supports local government functions. Andam implored the government to act decisively, ensuring access to concessions so they can continue operating sustainably and contributing to Ghana’s economic growth.

Adu Gyamfi, Ashanti district secretary of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners, strongly backed the miners’ appeal. “I support the call on the government to do all it can to make available small-scale mining concession blocks for responsible mining, to create more employment opportunities for the youth within the mining enclaves,” he affirmed.

We had to prolong the red carpet to accommodate some people – Robert Klah

Robert Klah is the Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse Robert Klah is the Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse

The Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse, Robert Klah, has explained why the red carpet at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) was extended beyond the scheduled time.

In an interview on Hitz FM, Robert Klah revealed that although everything was technically ready to begin the main awards show, the organisers had to delay the start because some key people had not arrived on time.

“Technically, we were all ready, everything. We were waiting to begin. At the time when we wanted to start the main show, we were still waiting. Because at the end of the day, you don’t want to announce the winner of an award and the presenter is not there, or even worse, the winner is not there. Or you’re ready to begin and your opening act is not there,” he said.

He explained that to ensure a smooth flow of the event, organisers needed to confirm that all performing acts and award presenters were present and prepared before starting the main show.

“You want to make sure they are all there. You want to have like two or three acts ready, so when you finish with one, the next is ready to go. All the necessary preparations must be in place. So, if these people are not there, it becomes difficult to begin,” Robert stated.

According to the Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse, because of these delays, the red-carpet segment had to be extended to give more time for attendees to arrive and get ready.

Robert Klah clarified that the main event was originally scheduled to begin at 9:15 PM, but due to delays caused by late arrivals from some guests and participants, they had no choice but to push the start time to 10PM.

“At the end of the day, it drags. Initially, we wanted to start, let’s say, between 9:15 and 9:30, but we ended up starting at 10. We had to prolong the red carpet to accommodate a number of people,” he added.

GUTA calls for urgent VAT Reform to ease business costs

Dr Joseph Obeng is President of GUTA Dr Joseph Obeng is President of GUTA

The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has urged the government to swiftly review Ghana’s Value Added Tax (VAT) structure citing its cascading effect as a significant contributor to rising business costs.

Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Wednesday, May 14, as monitored by GhanaWeb Business, the President of GUTA, Dr Joseph Obeng stressed the need for VAT restructuring ahead of the 2025 national budget presentation in November.

“We have to revise the VAT, we have to restructure. The cascading effect of VAT is one major factor in costing, and it is not positively affecting businesses,” he stated.

He also revealed that the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson had previously assured stakeholders that a task force would be formed to address VAT-related concerns.

However, he expressed disappointment that no such engagement has taken place.

“The Minister of Finance, Dr Ato Forson, promised they were going to form a task force to work on this, but we haven’t had any meeting to that effect for us to make our inputs. They should fast-track this before the November 2025 budget,” he urged.

He stressed the importance of engaging stakeholders and swiftly reforming the tax system to promote business growth and economic stability.

Gambia probes sale of ex-leader’s luxury cars, cows and boats

0

The Gambian government has announced an investigation into the sale of assets seized from former President Yahya Jammeh, following widespread public concern.

Some of the assets, including livestock and luxury vehicles, were sold off while a panel was still investigating the wealth Jammeh amassed during his 22-year rule.

A newspaper investigation exposed alleged irregularities and an apparent lack of transparency in the sale of the assets, sparking protests organised by young people.

In a televised address on Wednesday night, President Adama Barrow pledged “full transparency” in the probe, saying assets recovered “belong to the people”.

Jammeh, who seized power in a 1994 coup, is accused of orchestrating the huge theft of government funds, as well as extensive human rights abuses, including killing and jailing his critics.

The former leader, who in 2017 fled into exile in Equatorial Guinea after losing elections, has previously denied allegations of wrongdoing.

In 2017, President Barrow set up a commission to investigate alleged corruption and financial misconduct by Jammeh during his two-decade-long rule.

The panel, popularly known as the Janneh commission, concluded its findings in 2019 and recommended the forfeiture of assets linked to Jammeh and his associates.

The investigation found that Jammeh had allegedly stolen at least $360m (£270m) and spent lavishly on expensive vehicles, aircraft and real estate.

He is yet comment on the accusations but his supporters in Gambia have dismissed the findings against him as a political witchhunt.

Jammeh’s livestock – including cows, sheep and goats, – farm tractors, vehicles, and other valuables were among the assets earmarked for seizure by the state.

In 2019, President Barrow authorised a ministerial taskforce to oversee the reclaiming of the assets, with regular updates to the cabinet.

But an investigative report published by the local Republic newspaper earlier this month accused senior government officials of selling the assets to themselves, friends and family at below market value.

The report went viral on social media, triggering protests in the capital, Banjul, where dozens of people, including journalists were arrested but later released.

Following the public pressure, the government published a detailed list of the assets already sold, which included some of Jammeh’s luxury cars, livestock, boats, construction equipment, household goods, parcels of land and heavy farm machinery.

The long list showed the buyers, prices and sale dates.

However, some of Jammeh’s luxury cars like his customised Rolls Royce and Bentley were not in the list.

It is not clear if the vehicles were sold or shipped out to him as the government had allowed him to take some items to Equatorial Guinea.

The list sparked further outrage over how many valuable items had seemingly been sold at suspiciously low prices.

No explanation was given by the government about the prices but the justice ministry in a statement said the sale had gone through a “legally grounded process”.

“At all times, the government acted within the confines of the law and in the public interest,” the ministry said in a statement.

In his address on Wednesday, Barrow said he had convened a cabinet meeting the previous day to discuss details of the sales, some of which he was learning about “for the first time”.

He said the country’s parliament and the National Audit Office were both conducting parallel inquiries into the matter.

“Their findings will be made public, and my government will enforce their recommendations to address the shortcomings discovered and hold accountable any individual or entity found culpable,” the president said.

He urged Gambians to remain calm, warning that his government “will not tolerate negligence, or any wrongdoing linked to safeguarding our nation’s resources”.

But activists and opposition parties have dismissed the president’s assurance, saying parliament cannot be trusted with the investigation.

Yayah Sanyang, an opposition MP, has called for an independent probe, saying parliament was “full of ruling party loyalists”.

The Edward Francis Small Center for Rights and Justice, a rights group, has demanded that the president take responsibility and freeze the sale of all seized assets.

In 2022, the US seized a luxurious mansion in Maryland, which was said to have been purchased by Jammeh through proceeds of corruption.

In its investigation, the US Justice Department said Jammeh had acquired at least 281 properties during his time in office and operated more than 100 private bank accounts.

Eight sanitation offenders arrested in Kasoa

0

Eight sanitation offenders have been arrested and prosecuted in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region. The culprits were apprehended for dumping refuse in the Central Business District (CBD) of Kasoa.

Their arrests were carried out by an ad-hoc task force established by the Assembly to monitor and clamp down on poor sanitation practices. All suspects were caught in the act of dumping refuse within the CBD.

Following their arrests, the offenders were arraigned before the court, with some of the cases already concluded and fines imposed on those found guilty.

Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, May 15, Municipal Chief Executive of the Kasoa Municipality, Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, disclosed that the Assembly is taking further steps to strengthen sanitation enforcement.

He announced plans to officially launch a main task force that will include members from all state security agencies to intensify patrols and arrest offenders.

“Eight persons have been apprehended by the task force. At the moment, a commanding force of about 40 people, specifically designated for our sanitation guard and other traffic decongestion-related issues, will be commissioned to begin work soon,” he said.

He emphasised that this move aims to complement the efforts of security agencies in the municipality, who have expressed their readiness and commitment to support the Assembly’s initiative.

“We are hoping this will beef up the efforts from the security agencies within the municipality, who have assured us and shown much enthusiasm about collaborating with the Assembly to ensure we patrol the Central Business District and apprehend miscreants who feel they can dispose of waste anyhow,” he added.

Echoing this commitment, the Kasoa District Police Commander, ASP Emmanuel Amponsah who is also a member of the task force reaffirmed the police service’s support for the initiative.

“We will give him all the support he needs to ensure that members of Awutu Senya East abide by the sanitation rules,” he stated.

Attributing Ghana cedi’s gains to the US is ignorant

0

Isaac Adongo is a member on the BoG board Isaac Adongo is a member on the BoG board

The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central and a Board Member of the Bank of Ghana, Isaac Adongo, has noted that attributing the appreciation of the Ghana cedi to external factors, such as the trade wars in the US, is “ignorance”.

According to him, the performance of the dollar in the US has no direct correlation with the performance of the cedi in Ghana.

He explained that the gains being recorded are largely due to measures being implemented by the government.

Speaking in a JoyNews interview on May 14, 2025, he said, “Let me tell you how ignorant that is.”

“You see, your currency, the cedi, is a function of liquidity. So, if a dollar is sold, one cedi is sold for one cedi in the United States, but it doesn’t feed into your economy. For the people who need the dollar in Ghana to buy it at one cedi, it’s going to do that.”

Adongo added that due to the actions of the previous government, it has become highly impossible to attract forex, therefore, the performance of the dollar does not imply that the cedi will perform better.

“One cedi over there is meaningless. And we are having an economy at the moment where, thanks to Bawumia’s people, we cannot even attract that forex into our economy through borrowing. Okay, so whether a dollar is going down in America or Japan, of what relevance is it to the man who needs a dollar in Ghana to go and buy things from abroad? It is about liquidity,” he added.

The Bolga Central MP further said he cannot estimate how much the dollar will gain.

“You see, technically, professionally, it’s never done that you set a goal variable for the depreciation of a currency. You know why? The reason for even appreciation, you don’t set. The reason is that, like I said, it is not Ghana cedi you are managing. You are managing the US Dollar. You are managing the European euro, which is also exposed to the European economy. And you are managing the British pound, also exposed to the British economy, and the Japanese yen.

“So, because of that, you are not able, as your country, to say that I can predict. But you cannot say that by the end of the year, my cedi must depreciate by 10%,” he said.

Speak Up Africa galvanises private sector engagement to accelerate malaria-elimination efforts in Africa

0

On the sidelines of the Africa CEO Forum, Speak Up Africa, in collaboration with the RBM Partnership to End Malaria, the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), and Malaria No More UK, launched the Francophone chapter of the Change the Story campaign and unveiled a new report, Change the Story, Save Lives: The Private Sector’s Role in Ending Malaria.

The campaign aims to amplify the voices of women and girls and mobilize the African private sector to accelerate malaria elimination. With the upcoming Global Fund 8th Replenishment and rising funding gaps, 2025 represents a critical moment to unlock new resources and scale up impact.

“This is your moment to co-invest for impact, because when Africa’s private sector leads, the world pays attention,” said Dr. Michael Adekunle Charles, CEO of the RBM Partnership to End Malaria.

“The Global Fund has saved millions of lives and strengthened health systems. Your investments now can safeguard both economic resilience and public health.”

The accompanying report calls on businesses to provide direct or in-kind support to national malaria control efforts, channel resources into the Global Fund’s 8th Replenishment, join End Malaria Councils to drive multisectoral advocacy and resource mobilization, and invest in the new Voix EssentiELLEs Fund for Malaria Elimination, focused on women-led, community-driven efforts.

“Africa’s fight against malaria needs to be bold and the private sector is a vital partner in that mission.” said Joy Phumaphi, Executive Secretary of ALMA and Board Chair of the RBM Partnership to End Malaria.

“By joining End Malaria Councils and Funds and investing in community-led solutions, companies can unlock the innovations and resources needed to deliver impact, protect lives, power economies, and achieve a malaria-free future.”

Launched during the event, the Voix EssentiELLEs Fund for Malaria Elimination aims to mobilize $4 million by 2030 to support flexible malaria funding for women and girls, and regional advocacy aligned with national priorities.

“To avoid losing years of progress in the fight against malaria, securing new and diversified sources of funding is urgent,” said Pierre N’gou Dimba, Minister of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal Health Coverage of Côte d’Ivoire.

“The private sector has a direct stake in malaria elimination. Healthy communities lead to thriving economies.”

Women and girls continue to carry the greatest burden of malaria, yet remain underrepresented in decision-making and funding.

“Investing in women and girls accelerates development. Women leaders strengthen communities, drive innovation, and help lift families out of poverty. And we know that for every $1 invested in malaria control, we gain up to $60 in economic returns. Malaria-free communities are not just healthier, they are more resilient, productive, and profitable,” said Yacine Djibo, Executive Director of Speak Up Africa.

A 2024 study found that reducing malaria incidence by 90% by 2030 could boost the continent’s GDP by $126.9 billion. Malaria is not just a health issue, it is an economic barrier that weakens productivity, drives household spending, and constrains growth.

As part of Speak Up Africa’s ongoing work with the private sector, the organization signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Canal+ Côte d’Ivoire and the National Malaria Control Program.

The agreement builds on a five-year collaboration between Speak Up Africa and Canal+ Group, which has contributed more than $1.5 million in airtime and in-kind support.

“Through our platform, we are proud to drive awareness and contribute to the fight against malaria,” said Adama Koné, Director General of Canal+ Côte d’Ivoire.

“Together with Speak Up Africa and their partners, we are committed to changing the story to end malaria in Africa.”

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has expressed strong confidence in his bid to become the party’s National Chairman.

Speaking on his Wontumi Radio on Thursday, May 15, 2025, Wontumi stated that he would not contest the position if he were not certain of victory, claiming that the people and regions have already decided in his favour.

“I know that the people have made their decision already, the people, the regions, and others have made their decisions already in terms of who will win as the general secretary. As I sit here, if I claim that I don’t know, I would be lying. If I am not confident that the people have chosen me as the national chairman, I won’t contest. They have chosen, and I know, the people have decided already. They know what we have done,” Wontumi said during the interview.

Wontumi, who has served as the Ashanti Regional Chairman since 2014, officially declared his intention to contest the NPP National Chairmanship on May 5, 2025, citing divine guidance and a commitment to lead the party to victory in the 2028 general elections.

He emphasised that his decision to run was rooted in spiritual conviction, stating in an earlier interview on Wontumi TV that he had “spoken to God” and received divine favour for his ambition.

He believes his track record and grassroots support position him as the ideal candidate to steer the party nationally.

“I want the opportunity to serve the NPP and help secure victory in the 2028 elections,” he affirmed in a previous statement.

Ghana’s power supply at risk as it faces critical fuel shortage

0

Speaking before the Parliamentary Committee on Energy on Thursday, 15 May, Mr Jinapor revealed that the Ministry is urgently seeking billions of cedis to pay for fuel already ordered, as current reserves are dangerously low.

“My greatest concern is securing the next shipment of liquid fuel. Our existing stock can only last for 2.6 days,” he told Members of Parliament.

The Minister noted that although some fuel supplies had been obtained on credit, the absence of immediate funds poses a serious threat to uninterrupted power generation nationwide.

“We’ve placed an order for fuel, but it must be paid for. We’re working closely with the Ministry of Finance to facilitate payment. However, the reality is that the Ministry is also financially constrained. We plan to take the matter to Cabinet to explore how we can strengthen the sector,” Mr Jinapor explained.

In the face of the crisis, the Minister suggested that government may renew efforts to engage the private sector in the management of some aspects of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to help improve efficiency and sustainability.

“This approach may not entirely solve the problem, but it would take us a step forward. For instance, if revenue collection inefficiencies drop from 40% to 5%, it means we can recover more of what is owed,” he stated.

Mr Jinapor also emphasised the need for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to fully meet their electricity obligations and reflect them accurately in their budgets. He pointed out that even key national institutions in sectors such as health, education, security, and the presidency must be adequately funded for their energy consumption.

“It’s imperative that all public entities, especially essential services, allocate sufficient resources for electricity in their budgets,” the Minister stressed.

As the nation teeters on the brink of power shortages, the Energy Ministry’s plea highlights a broader call for systemic reforms, fiscal discipline, and collaborative solutions to secure Ghana’s energy future.

Meet the Liberian chef who just broke cook-a-thon record

Evette Quoibia has always loved cooking. At age eight, she was cooking with little cups while her peers were playing with toys. As she grew up, she helped prepare meals for her family and loved to share her food with others.

Today, Quoibia is a chef who also owns a restaurant that is doing very well. She has also been certified as a Guinness World Record breaker for her longest cooking marathon hour (individual) —140 hr, 11 minutes, 11 sec. She broke Ireland’s Alan Fisher’s record time — 119 hr 57minutesn 16 seconds.

For six days, the Liberian-Australian chef shared the flavors of her native Liberia with her community, inviting all and sundry in her community in Melbourne, Australia to come and try her delicious cuisines of West Africa.

“I was born during the war, and we moved a lot. My parents fled to the Ivory Coast, then Ghana, then I came to Australia,” said Quoibia to Guinness World Records (GWR).

“I always dreamed of being great, or doing something out of the ordinary. I’m very ambitious, I dream big. But due to the life I had, I feel like I didn’t have the opportunity to do things that permit me to be the person I wanted to be,” she continued. “Until I found out about the Guinness World Records’ longest cooking marathon.”

She was excited about attempting the record because it was within her skills.

“So this is a good opportunity to achieve something big, or to do something different,” said Quoibia.

She used two months to prepare for the competition, speaking to an assistant chef and an event planner, her church, and her team of kitchen volunteers.

She also started a GoFundMe to help pay for the items she would need in the kitchen. To get everyone attracted to her meals, she cooked international-friendly Liberian food for the event, including jollof rice (Liberian-style), cassava leaves, and a variety of soups and stews like pepper, okra, and cabbage, which could be served with white rice, according to GWR.

Other meals were inspired by Nigerian, Asian, and Australian cooking.

Quoibia started strong, but along the way, she became weak because she had been standing and cooking for days in heated conditions.

During day four or five, she began struggling: “I relied on my team a lot because I was very weak mentally. I wasn’t there. I also found myself very slow, I would say. I couldn’t process things properly, because not sleeping for that long is an extreme thing to do.”

“But thank God for my team, who helped me during my process, and helped me stay on track.”

Her family, her community, and her church were also present to cheer her on, and that gave her immense energy to continue with her attempt. Before she knew it, she had broken the record.

“Honestly, I was not in the mental state to know where I was [time-wise]. I just kept going until someone from my church made an announcement and drew my attention to the time and said, ‘Evette, we are reaching the time of your record-breaking moment, and we need to celebrate… You have broken your record!” she said. “And I was extremely excited, and very happy.”

The Liberian-Australian chef now hopes that her feat will inspire others to never give up on their dreams.

“I wanted to encourage women, single moms, young women, and everyone else, that whatever you’re doing right now, if you have a dream to do it big, there’s hope for you. There’s a chance for everyone.”

New gas plant will reinvent Ghana’s energy economy – Energy analyst

0

Finance and Energy Policy Analyst, Richmond Eduku Finance and Energy Policy Analyst, Richmond Eduku

Ghana’s economic and energy future stands at a pivotal moment as government plans for a second Gas Processing Plant (GPP II) move forward.

According to Richmond Eduku, a Finance and Energy Policy Analyst, the project represents a transformational opportunity that must be embraced to strengthen the country’s economy, stabilize the power sector, and create sustainable jobs.

“The success of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant is clear evidence of what Ghana can achieve with strategic investment in gas infrastructure,” Eduku said.

Since 2017, when Ghana Gas transitioned operational control from Chinese firm Sinopec to an all-Ghanaian technical team, the country has saved over US$250 million.

“That transition not only demonstrated the technical competence of Ghanaian engineers, but also proved the financial and strategic benefits of localising major national infrastructure,” he added.

Gas from the Atuabo plant currently fuels thermal power stations in Aboadze and Tema, significantly reducing the country’s dependence on imported crude and heavy fuel oil.

This shift has helped cut operational costs for power producers like the Volta River Authority (VRA) and Independent Power Producers (IPPs), enhancing the financial sustainability of electricity generation.

“Every dollar saved on fuel imports strengthens the cedi, boosts local investment, and supports economic growth,” Eduku emphasized.

Additionally, the plant has created thousands of jobs and stimulated local economies, especially in the Western Region. From engineering and logistics to maintenance and ancillary services, Atuabo has become a key job creator, with ripple effects across communities.

“This is how infrastructure delivers real economic impact, by creating work and building skills,” he noted.

However, Ghana’s energy sector continues to face serious challenges, including a debt burden exceeding US$3 billion, unreliable power supply, and inefficiencies in distribution.

Eduku argues that a second gas processing plant is essential to address these problems.

With offshore gas output increasing, especially from the Sankofa, TEN, and Jubilee fields, Ghana needs additional processing capacity to avoid gas flaring, meet rising domestic energy demand, and expand industrial use.

The proposed GPP II would not only increase lean gas and LPG supply but also enable the development of petrochemical industries such as fertilizer, plastics, and methanol production.

“If Ghana fails to invest in new processing infrastructure, we risk wasting valuable gas resources and stalling our industrialisation drive,” Mr. Eduku warned. “GPP II is not a luxury; it’s a necessity.”

He called on policymakers, private investors, and international development partners to support the government’s efforts to fund and deliver the plant.

“This is a moment for national alignment. The new gas plant will lower energy costs, create jobs, grow industries, and improve our trade balance. It’s a smart, strategic investment in Ghana’s future.”

“The evidence is clear. The Atuabo Gas Plant worked. Now, let’s scale up with GPP II and take Ghana’s energy economy to the next level,” he added.

Museveni’s wartime driver seeks compensation, says govt ignored him

Muhammed Musana claims to have been President Museveni's driver during the Guerrilla War Muhammed Musana claims to have been President Museveni’s driver during the Guerrilla War

An 82-year-old man who claims to have been President Museveni’s personal driver during Uganda’s early 1980s liberation struggle is seeking compensation from the government, saying he was abandoned after facing life-threatening risks and losing personal property.

Muhammed Musana, a peasant farmer from Namalenha Village in Buwunga sub-county, Bugiri District, told Monitor he worked with Museveni between 1982 and 1983, a period marked by intense military activity that eventually led to Museveni’s rise to power in 1986.

“I survived two attempts on my life by Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) soldiers who were targeting my boss,” he said. “At the time, I was alone in the vehicle,” he explained.

Musana claims his Peugeot vehicle, registration number UWL 029, was destroyed by troops in Namunteire Village along the Jinja–Tororo Highway in Busia District.

He also says his house was burned down, leaving him to rebuild his life from scratch.

“I worked with him for two years. After my car was destroyed, he left me, and I returned home to struggle,” said Musana, who now supports his family of ten children and one wife through subsistence farming.

Musana is now appealing to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government for financial support, compensation, recognition, a house, education for his children, and jobs for them.

“If the government caters for the above, I will die a happy man because I have never benefited from government programmes,” he said.

Musana said his efforts to seek help started in 2000 when he approached then Fisheries Minister and Bukooli Central MP, Fred Mukisa, but received no response.

Letters sent to other officials, including former NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba, also went unanswered.

“I’ve written letters to government officials, but no one has helped me. Now that I’m aging, when will I benefit from the government?” he asked.

Bugiri Resident District Commissioner Paul Mwidu Kalikwani has promised to look into the case.

“As the president’s representative, I’m going to take this matter seriously,” Kalikwani said.

“I’m confident that all his requests will be considered. I want him to remain calm while we escalate the issue to our superiors,” he added.

Kalikwani added that his office would visit Musana’s home to gather further details and verify his claims.

Ada West Assembly Members confirm DCE nominee

By Opesika Tetteh Puplampu

Sege, May 15, GNA – Assembly Members of the Ada West District Assembly on Wednesday confirmed Mr Jerry John Foreigner Amornortey Tanihu Mills-Nkrumah as the District Chief Executive.

Mr Mills-Nkrumah received 16 yes votes, representing 69.9 per cent, and six no votes.

Madam Linda Akweley Obenewaa Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, sworn him into office to begin his official duty as DCE after the peaceful election which was observed by chiefs, security personnel, residents, assembly members and well-wishers of the nominee.

Ahead of the election, the regional minister urged the assembly members to confirm the nominee to fast-track development of the area as appointments and recruitments are ongoing.

Mr Lawrence Katey Nunekpeku, Presiding Member of the Assembly, also made a passionate appeal to the assembly members, indicating the need to unite to champion a common cause.

According to him, the presence of Mr Daniel Keshi Bessey, Member of Parliament for the area, and his contender Mr Dodzie Numekervor, former parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), at the programme spoke volumes of how politics could not divide them as a people.

Mr Bessey urged the Assembly members to confirm the nominee in a united manner to project a good image of the district.

The DCE, in his acceptance speech, thanked the president for nominating him, pledging to operate on the vision of the president to reset Ada West District.

He disclosed that he is not new to the district, as he was familiar with most of the problems faced by the people, including water, deplorable road networks, accommodation for teachers, shortage of furniture in schools, shortage of teachers, abandoned Community Day School, poor revenue generation for the district, lack of permanent structure for the fire and immigration services and lack of operative cars and equipment for the security services in the district.

“I also take cognisance of the Agenda 111 Project started under the NPP government but stalled at the moment,” he emphasised.

He assured the public of working hand in hand with the MP, assembly members and other stakeholders to improve the living standard of the marginalised.

He expressed satisfaction over the percentage of votes he attained, saying, “It’s only today that I have seen that I am a good man,” adding that the no votes were a sign that he was not a criminal.

“My dad disowned me” – Archbishop Agyinasare

0

Founder and Prelate of Perez Chapel International, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, has opened up about the painful childhood experiences that shaped his life, revealing how his parents’ divorce and youthful rebellion led to his father’s disownment.

In an exclusive interview on with Joy Prime’s Roselyn Felli on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the Archbishop recounted his troubled teenage years, marked by substance abuse and waywardness, which caused a major rift between him and his father, a military officer.

“My dad was a soldier in Teshie-Weija Barracks, so I grew up in the barracks. I attended Armed Forces Experimental School and later went to St. Martin’s Secondary School. In St. Martin’s, I went wild and did all kinds of things,” he confessed.

He admitted to engaging in harmful habits such as marijuana use, alcohol consumption, smoking tobacco, and chasing girls—all influenced by peer pressure.

“In Form 5 first term, I was thrown out of school for being a bad boy. If I hadn’t registered for the O’ Levels, I couldn’t have written them,” he added.

The turning point came when his father, disillusioned by his conduct, cut him off completely.

“It was so bad that my dad disowned me. He thought I was into drugs and all kinds of stuff. He felt this was not the barracks boy he raised, so he disowned me,” Archbishop Agyinasare revealed.

He explained that, at the time, he was on a personal quest for fulfilment and mistakenly believed the lifestyle he was living would fill the emptiness he felt inside.

Although his father relocated to Tamale in 1976, reconciliation came a year later when he was invited back home in 1978. Yet, the struggles didn’t end there.

“The same things that I had a problem with, that made my dad throw me out—when I came back, I continued doing them,” he admitted.

Beyond the personal rebellion, the Archbishop pointed to the early divorce of his parents as a root cause of his behavioural challenges. His parents separated when he was just seven years old—a development that left emotional scars.

“They would speak negatively about each other to us, the children. That affected me deeply,” he said.

Inspired by these experiences, Archbishop Agyinasare authored a book titled , which explores how fractured families can negatively impact children, often leading to psychological issues and destructive behaviour.

The Archbishop’s candid revelations serve as a powerful reflection on the long-term effects of broken homes and the importance of healing and guidance in the formative years.

Tema Metropolis, becoming haven for human trafficking – Police

0

By Isaac Newton Tetteh

Tema, May 15, GNA-The Tema Metropolitan Area in the Greater Accra Region has been identified as a soft haven for human trafficking activities, the officer in charge of the Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service in the Tema Region has revealed.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Raymond Mwinsori, Officer in Charge of the Tema Regional Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service, made the revelation during a stakeholder engagement with the Ghana Progressive Hotels Association (GHAPROHA) in Tema.

ASP Mwinsori hinted that the Tema Metropolis has become a hot spot for human trafficking activities, as some hoteliers have given their facilities to human traffickers to perpetuate such inhumane activities.

According to him, fighting human trafficking remained a tough battle, and the police would need the collaborations from the various stakeholders, including the Ghana Progressive Hostel Association and the relevant state institutions, to curb the human trafficking menace within the Tema Metropolis.

He further noted that the porosity of the various Ghanaian borders to other neighbouring West African countries, such as Nigeria, Togo, and Benin, has made the activities of human trafficking very lucrative for the perpetrators.

He urged landlords, caretakers, and hoteliers to conduct thorough investigations on people they offer their accommodations to, especially those who were non-Ghanaians.

Mr Emmanuel Gaedda Asando, the National President of the Ghana Progressive Hotels Association (GHAPROHA), in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), stated that most of the human trafficking activities could be carried out in unregistered motels, stressing that state institutions must crack the whip on non-registered accommodations and rentals in the country.

Mr Asando further said hoteliers must unite and support the law-enforcing agencies by providing relevant information to the security agencies to help curb the human trafficking activities.

He stated that the ultimate goal of the association was to help promote the tourism sector in the country but not to promote criminal activities, therefore calling on hoteliers to register their various hotels with the relevant institutions.

He said GHAPROHA was in collaboration with the Ghana Statistical Service to produce data on accommodation system units to gather the relevant information on the contributions made by the various hotels and the hospitality sector to the country’s economy.

People hated me because my dad is rich

Davido is a popular Nigerian musician whose father is a wealthy man Davido is a popular Nigerian musician whose father is a wealthy man

Nigerian musician, Davido, has stated that he is the most criticised artiste in Nigeria, largely because of his wealthy background.

Speaking on the Culture Knock Out podcast, the “Assurance” hitmaker reflected on how his privileged background has influenced public perceptions of his success.

“I’m the most criticised artiste in Nigeria. I mean, I’m on fire and I’ve been on fire for a while,” he said.

According to Davido, early in his career, the public was unaware of his wealthy family background, allowing him to gain popularity without being judged for his privileged upbringing.

“In the beginning, they didn’t know that my dad was rich. It was too late, I already did three hit songs before they found out that my dad had money,” he explained.

However, he noted that attitudes began to change once people learned of his father’s wealth.

“Over time, people started hating me because my dad is rich. But I keep on dropping good music, and it keeps working out,” Davido stated.

The award-winning artiste also touched on the inevitability of criticisms when one reaches a certain level of fame or influence.

“It happens to everyone. Once you become the biggest in anything, you will get criticised. You are doing an election; people love you and they vote for you. But when you become president, they hate you,” he added.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that Germany is open to entering a labour mobility agreement with Ghana, aimed at creating job opportunities for thousands of Ghanaian youths in Germany.

The potential agreement is expected to provide safe and rewarding employment under a structured bilateral framework.

Ablakwa made this known on his official Facebook page on May 14, 2025, after holding a series of high-level meetings with key German officials on the sidelines of the United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial currently ongoing in Berlin.

According to him, the agreement, which is still under discussion, would be modeled after a similar deal recently signed between Germany and Kenya.

That deal allows for the legal migration of Kenyan workers to Germany under fair and protected conditions.

Ghana’s version, Okudzeto Ablakwa noted, would ensure dignified employment for Ghanaian youth.

“This agreement would guarantee safe, rewarding, and dignified employment similar to what Germany and Kenya signed recently. We expect actual implementation soon. I am optimistic that the talks would lead to concrete outcomes in the near future,” he indicated.

In Berlin, Ablakwa met with Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul; Joachim Stamp, the Federal Government’s Special Representative for Migration Agreements; and other top officials from the German Interior Ministry.

The meetings focused on deepening bilateral cooperation and addressing youth unemployment in Ghana through migration partnerships.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stressed that President John Dramani Mahama’s administration is committed to pursuing proactive and impactful diplomacy that confronts the key challenges facing Ghanaians.

He highlighted job creation, migration management, and international cooperation as top priorities for the government.

“For God and Country, reaffirming the government’s dedication to advancing the welfare of Ghanaian citizens both at home and abroad through strategic global partnerships,” he added.

Visually impaired DJ breaks barriers in Tanzania’s music scene

0

DJ Sharifu is seen here in action DJ Sharifu is seen here in action

When the music drops and the crowd erupts into dance, no one thinks twice about who’s behind the decks. But when you walk up to tip the DJ and realise he is visually impaired, the moment becomes unforgettable.

This is the experience many have had with Sharifu Pinda, popularly known as DJ Sharifu—Tanzania’s trailblazing blind DJ who has redefined what’s possible in entertainment. From a distance, nothing seems unusual as his mixes flow seamlessly.

The beats hit just right, the transitions are smooth, and the vibe is electric. But DJ Sharifu is not reading from a screen—he’s mixing entirely by sound.

“I lost my sight in 2012 due to retina complications. My parents couldn’t get me early treatment, so I had to accept the condition,” DJ Sharifu told The Citizen in an exclusive interview.

He was then a journalism student, never imagining that one day he’d become a sensation behind DJ decks. His unexpected breakthrough came in 2021 during his internship at Ruangwa District’s community radio station.

“One day my colleagues didn’t show up, and I had to handle the programme myself. I realised if I wanted to succeed in broadcasting, I needed to learn to play music,” he explained.

With little more than curiosity and courage, he started learning DJing through online tutorials and self-practice. He soon began uploading mixes on social media platforms, drawing attention for both his talent and his resilience. His success is no accident.

DJ Sharifu uses a screen reader programme called Nonvisual Desktop Access (NVDA), which reads menus and song titles aloud, allowing him to operate complex DJ software.

“The programme guides me through different DJ functions. But more than anything, it’s my ears that do the work,” he said.

Unlike most DJs, DJ Sharifu doesn’t rely on visuals or monitors. He builds every set through memory and feel. “I have a mental library of over 1,000 songs. I know exactly how to pair them based on tempo, vibe, and mood. Blind DJs actually feel the music more deeply—we depend fully on sound,” he said.

Sharifu insists that being blind has actually heightened his musical sensitivity. “A blind DJ gives you 100 percent audio precision. Our mixes are more balanced, the selection is more deliberate, and the crowd can feel the difference,” he added.

However, challenges persist. His screen reader programme doesn’t always work smoothly with DJ software, forcing him to invent shortcuts.

“There are times the programme won’t detect certain features, so I’ve had to adapt a lot,” he said.

Another barrier is lack of access to professional DJ equipment. “I wish I had my own gear. I’d love to start mentoring others, one by one,” he said.

His dream is to open a DJ training centre for people with visual impairments—a space equipped with accessible tools and a mission to empower.

“There are many blind youths out there with talent. All they need is a chance. I want to help them become professional DJs and play at big events across Tanzania.” Sharifu’s message to the public is simple: “Believe in us. Give us the platform and we’ll show you what we’re capable of.”

Indeed, DJ Sharifu is not just playing music—he’s rewriting the rules of possibility.

No change to OTC foreign currency withdrawal guidelines

0

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has firmly stated that there has been no change to its existing guidelines on over-the-counter (OTC) foreign currency withdrawals, dismissing concerns over a possible restriction on dollar access in the country.

Addressing the matter in an interview with Channel One TV’s Bernard Avle, Ernest Nii Sowah Ahulu, Head of the Financial Market Department at BoG, emphasised the need for clarity on the issue, reassuring the public that they can access their funds without restrictions.

“The issue was about restrictions on the ability to withdraw foreign currencies at the bank. We haven’t changed or issued a new guideline replacing the existing one, and we felt that we needed to clarify that for the public to be confident that they can have access to their dollars when they want to withdraw,” Mr. Ahulu stated.

The clarification follows debates sparked by comments from Isaac Adongo, Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central and a Board Member of BoG, suggesting tighter withdrawal controls to stabilize the Ghana cedi.

However, the central bank has refuted those claims, maintaining that foreign currency withdrawals remain permissible under current regulations.

The BoG reiterated that OTC cash withdrawals from Foreign Exchange Accounts (FEA) and Foreign Currency Accounts (FCA) remain in effect, and banks are expected to comply with these guidelines.

Additionally, travelers without FEA or FCA accounts may purchase up to $10,000 per trip, provided they meet regulatory requirements, including passport and visa verification.

BoG has urged the public to remain assured of continued access to foreign currency services while reaffirming its commitment to maintaining stability in the financial sector.

Meeri has threatened to amputate Vivian Jill Lawrence Meeri has threatened to amputate Vivian Jill Lawrence

A controversy has erupted in the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency following a viral WhatsApp voice note in which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Women Organiser, identifying herself as Meeri, issued a threat against popular Ghanaian actress, Vivian Jill Lawrence.

The dispute evolves around the alleged awarding of a school feeding contract in the constituency to Vivian Jill, a decision which has incurred the anger of Meeri, who claims the process disrespects local party structures and her role as a grassroots organiser.

In the widely circulated voice note on social media platforms allegedly shared on one of the party’s WhatsApp platforms, Meeri expressed deep frustration over what she perceives as a lack of respect for NDC party hierarchy and local leadership.

She stated that she has not received an official appointment letter as the constituency women organiser, yet Vivian Jill, based in Kumasi, has allegedly been granted a contract to manage the School Feeding Programme in the Ahafo Ano South East.

“How does it happen that as the constituency women organiser, I have not received my appointment letter, but someone from Kumasi receives an appointment letter from Accra to be walking about in my constituency seeking to execute school feeding? Waalahi, it won’t happen,” Meeri declared.

Meeri also directed her anger at what she described as an unfair sidelining of local party faithful who campaigned tirelessly for the NDC.

She recounted driving to confront Vivian Jill upon picking intelligence on her presence in the constituency, only to find that the actress had left the area.

According to the NDC Women Organiser, she subsequently issued a direct threat to the actress in a phone call, daring her to go ahead and execute the contract.

“I have told Vivian Jill herself to dare come to cook if she is a woman. The very hand she intends to cook with, or the hand of whoever she will send to come and cook, she will return with amputated hands. I will personally chop off her hands, I, Meeri, said so,” she threatened.

She further stated her willingness to face legal consequences, saying, “I will chop off her hands and go to jail. I prefer just that.

“Do you think we are fools? When you finish using us to work, you begin to see us as fools. You think you are the only ones worthy of riding in cars, the only ones worthy of building houses. You want us to remain your uncivilised stooges,” she lamented, emphasising that the party belongs to all its members, not a select few.

She further accused the Ashanti Regional Women Organiser of sidestepping her to award the contract to the actress.

The School Feeding Programme, a key government initiative to provide meals to schoolchildren, has often been a contentious issue due to its economic and political significance.

Contracts for the programme are highly sought after, and their allocation have usually sparked tensions.

Meanwhile, neither Vivian Jill nor the NDC leadership has issued an official response to Meeri’s allegations or threats yet.

Speaking during a meeting between the Energy Committee and various power sector agencies on Thursday, May 15, Jinapor emphasised the need for MDAs to take responsibility for their electricity bills, explaining that critical institutions have been identified with some exemptions applied.

Ghanaian actress, Fella Makafui Ghanaian actress, Fella Makafui

Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur, Fella Makafui, has opened up on the unforgettable moment where she was awake throughout the Caesarean session procedure.

Speaking in an interview with Pulse Ghana, Fella disclosed that she had to undergo a caesarean section when the doctors realised her daughter couldn’t turn well in the womb, making natural delivery risky.

Fella described how she gave birth to her daughter, stating that “I was actually awake throughout the process, I was seeing myself because of the CS. I had 2 doctors, one on my left and one on my right. I could just feel myself moving, like they are forcing something to come out, but I wasn’t feeling any pain. The doctors kept asking if I was okay.

“The funny part was, I turned myself to watch the other nurse on my left side, that’s when I saw this mirror and I saw my stomach, then I panicked because it was so scary and traumatising. I didn’t know that’s what was going on so it was scary and I think a few minute later, I heard the baby’s cry. I remember that I was just crying especially when they brought Island. My partner then was asked to be inside but I think he was scared so he was outside, and they just rushed the baby to him. It was a very good experience,” she said.

According to Fella, she went through hell during her pregnancy journey.

She said she used to even cough up blood.

“The first 3 months were hell for me, I was literally sick. I lost weight because I had zero appetite. I could cough and cough blood, it was that bad. Along the line, I had to do CS because Island couldn’t turn well. I didn’t want to do CS, I wanted to deliver a normal birth, but I had no choice,” she stated.
