The former Minister of Food and Agriculture has officially declared his intention to join the party’s flagbearership race, following extensive nationwide consultations conducted by an exploratory team over the past month.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, after a meeting with the leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the lawmaker said his decision followed extensive nationwide consultations conducted by an exploratory team over the past month.
He explained that informing the General Council and Moderator of the church was a matter of principle and respect for his Christian upbringing, adding that he was also seeking divine guidance.
“…A decision has been made that I will contest when the party opens nominations, but to do that, as a product of the church, it will be a disappointment per my tradition, if the Moderator of the church hears it for the first time on the radio,” he stated.
“So, before the formal announcement is made, I thought it wise to inform the General Council and the Moderator of the Presby Church. Most importantly, I am here to also seek the blessings of God,” he noted.
The NPP is expected to elect its next flagbearer at its presidential primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Big Brother Naija, Zion Edet, has broken his silence following the explosive reunion episode where his ex-girlfriend, Chinwe, accused him of exploiting her financially and abandoning her after he collected money.
In a lengthy statement posted on social media, Zion clarified the situation and defended himself against what he described as “twisted narratives.”
Zion acknowledged that he usually keeps quiet, but he said, “Enough is enough.” He disclosed that when he and Chinwe started dating, he had just returned from studying overseas and was still attempting to establish his brands.
According to him, Chinwe was aware of his situation and initially respected his hustle, but later began to “broke shame” him publicly despite their differences in lifestyle and values.
“You make money through means I could never and would never pursue yet I never judged you,” he wrote. “Because I chose a clean, slower path, I deserve to be disrespected?”
He also responded to allegations that he was never fair to Chinwe. Zion enumerated his activities with her, including organizing a spa day, purchasing presents, and even cooking her birthday dinner.
“You claim I never took you out? I gave gifts, planned a spa day, hosted your birthday dinner with friends… but none of that matters without respect.”
Regarding the notorious N270k he asked for on his birthday, which Chinwe brought up at the reunion, Zion clarified that their club bill exceeded N1 million and that he had only asked her to contribute a portion of it. He now says that he regrets relying on someone who “didn’t have his back” to help him.
But Zion didn’t end there.
He disclosed that her team still owes his team N1 million, a debt he claims he instructed them to disregard “out of care” for her.
Regarding Chinwe’s claims of being unfaithful, Zion retorted bluntly that she, too, lacked loyalty.
“You disrespected me and my people repeatedly while having sodomic relationships with women behind my back. Now you’re shocked that I left?”
He concluded the statement with a pointed closing:
“Like you said, ‘Good riddance.’ So be it. Spin your narrative however makes you sleep at night. I’m focused, I’m grinding, and I’m winning regardless.”
Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for the handling of a message sent by Professor Ransford Gyampo during an investigation into Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) as per reports from MyNewsGH on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
The OSP had implied that Gyampo interfered with a search warrant by sending a WhatsApp message to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
Barker-Vormawor took to Facebook to share the contents of the message, which read, “Your shut down of the SML Server would rather cause financial loss to the State.
He expressed disappointment in the OSP’s interpretation of the message, calling the press statement issued by the office “bad faith.”
He further stated that the office’s response was aimed at tarnishing Gyampo’s reputation.
Barker-Vormawor stated that the Special Prosecutor’s office should have exercised greater maturity in handling the matter.
“Let’s be circumspect in public office,” he advised, adding that public criticism should not lead to personal attacks.
In his defense, Prof. Gyampo clarified that his message was intended to express concern, not interfere with the investigation.
“I only expressed the hope that your intentions are patriotic and not personal,” Gyampo explained, asserting that the OSP’s insinuations were unwarranted.
Barker-Vormawor concluded by urging the public to make their own judgments on the issue, pointing at the need for restraint in sensitive investigations.

The smart casual dress code strikes the perfect balance between formal and relaxed, allowing women to showcase their personality without compromising on workplace standards. Whether you’re working from the office, remotely, or attending meetings, here’s how to build a chic smart casual wardrobe.
1. Tailored Blazers
A tailored blazer is a versatile must-have. Opt for neutral shades like black, navy, or beige for maximum mix-and-match potential. Layer it over a blouse or basic tee, and pair it with trousers, skirts, or even dark-wash jeans for a refined yet relaxed appearance. It’s a go-to piece that transitions seamlessly from office hours to after-work events.
2. Elegant Blouses and Shirts
Classic button-downs or blouses with minimal prints—like stripes or polka dots—bring both style and sophistication. Soft colors such as blush, white, and pastel blue add freshness to your look. Details like bows, ruffles, or pleats subtly enhance the outfit without appearing overly formal.
3. High-Waisted and Straight-Leg Trousers
These pants provide both comfort and a flattering silhouette. Materials like cotton blends or light wool work well year-round. Match them with tucked-in tops or structured blouses for a clean and polished look.
4. Midi Skirts and Dresses
Midi lengths offer elegance with ease. Whether it’s a fitted midi skirt with a blouse or a simple midi dress, these options are effortlessly stylish. Complete the look with flats or ankle boots.
5. Comfortable Yet Classy Footwear
Flats, loafers, or low heels are ideal for smart casual outfits. Choose neutral tones for versatility. These shoes provide comfort without sacrificing sophistication.
6. Thoughtful Accessories
Accessorize with simple jewelry, structured handbags, or subtle belts to complete your ensemble. A classic watch or silk scarf adds personal flair.
Conclusion
Smart casual workwear for women is all about creating harmony between elegance and ease. With the right combination of tailored pieces, soft details, and refined accessories, any woman can confidently navigate her workday in style.

The National Youth Authority (NYA) has disclosed that over 150,000 Ghanaians have enrolled in its National Apprenticeship Programme, surpassing the anticipated 10,000 for the first phase of the initiative.
According to the National Youth Authority, this oversubscription demonstrates the enthusiasm of Ghanaian youth to seize the opportunities offered by the National Apprenticeship Programme.

For nearly a decade, UK-based Ghanaian content creator Mcjoel Cudjoe, popularly known as 4everjoeyy, has been reshaping digital comedy through his unique blend of sharp satire, cultural commentary, and relatable storytelling.
With viral skits that regularly surpass a million views and collaborations with global brands like Nike and McDonald’s, Joey has cemented his position as one of Africa’s most influential digital creators.
From his early recognition by Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o to features on BuzzFeed and The Shade Room, Joey’s journey reflects both consistency and creative evolution.
His iconic “in-law of Bill Gates” persona and viral hits like “POV: Your Friend Just Joined the Gym” (25M+ views) showcase his ability to turn everyday scenarios into comedic gold while maintaining global appeal.
Beyond laughs, Joey’s work, spanning political satire, biblical reenactments, and social humor—has made him a marketing powerhouse, with over 370K Instagram and 220K TikTok followers.
In this exclusive interview with culture journalist Kenneth Awotwe Darko for Myjoyonline.com, Joey reveals his creative process, brand collaboration philosophy, and vision for the future of digital comedy.
Here’s what ensued during the interview:
1. You’ve spent nearly a decade shaping digital comedy. How did you find your niche in blending humor with cultural commentary, and how has your content evolved since your early days?
“I found my niche by leaning into my reality. My earlier content was more reactive and random, but over time, it’s become more intentional. I started by making content that reflected my experiences growing up Ghanaian, moving abroad, being part of different cultures and I noticed people connected most when it felt real.
Over the years, I’ve shifted from just being funny to being intentional. Now, I focus on intelligent comedy, the kind that still makes you laugh, but also makes you think. Whether I’m touching on identity, social norms, or politics, I like when someone watches a skit and goes, “Wait… that’s actually true.” The goal isn’t just virality anymore; it’s to create stories that spark both laughter and reflection.“

2. What do you think makes your comedy so universally relatable, and which viral moment surprised you the most?
“I think it’s the way I tap into shared human experiences. I tell stories from my world, but I make sure they’re rooted in things everyone can feel: embarrassment, pride, confusion, joy. For example even if you’re not African, you know what it feels like to be misunderstood by parents or embarrassed in public. These are things people all over the world go through, regardless of where they’re from.
I also play a lot with nuance so even when I’m talking about something specific to Ghana or the diaspora, there’s always a deeper emotion or truth people can connect with. One viral moment that really surprised me was the “In-law of Bill Gates” skit. I was just having fun with the idea of false entitlement, and it ended up blowing up globally. That’s when I realized comedy doesn’t have to be loud or forced, if it’s honest and clever, it travels.“
3. Your skits, from biblical reenactments to political satire, require sharp wit and storytelling. Walk us through your creative process: How do you turn everyday scenarios into comedic gold?
“It usually starts with one silly “what if?” moment. This is one of the tactics I always use anytime I have a mental block. That allows you to think of scenarios people never think of . Like, “What if Judas Iscariot did a street interview?”
Then I sit with that idea and stretch it. I look for the layers the cultural undertones, the subtext, the double meanings. From there, I write the dialogue to feel real, like something you’d overhear on a bus or during FaceTime. I also try to twist the ending people know I love a good plot twist. That’s how I make it memorable.“
4. One of your most memorable roles is the self-proclaimed “in-law of Bill Gates.” How do you develop these recurring characters, and do you have a personal favorite?
“I actually don’t have a favorite character. Each one has its own moment and purpose and once it’s done what it needs to do, I move on. The “in-law of Bill Gates” stands out because it was just pure delusion and confidence — and that kind of bold, unnecessary entitlement is hilarious and oddly familiar to a lot of people. But honestly, none of my recurring characters are ever planned.“
I don’t go in with the mindset of building a series. I just create freely. I experiment a lot and when the audience really connects with something, that’s what signals me to revisit it or build on it. It’s never strategic at first it’s instinctive. I hate being boxed in, so I give myself the freedom to try all types of comedy. And when something hits, I double down not because it’s trending, but because it still feels fun.“
5. Your humor often highlights social and political issues. How do you balance satire with sensitivity, especially when tackling controversial topics?
“For me, comedy is how I express myself and speak on things that matter. It’s not just about making people laugh it’s a way of showing concern and starting conversations. Yeah, it might come across as funny at first, but if you really watch, there’s usually a deeper truth in it.
I’m intentional with what I say and how I say it. I don’t like attacking people I prefer to highlight the systems, behaviors, or mindsets we’ve normalized. That’s where I find the humor and the message. I also try to be mindful of timing. Some topics are still raw for a lot of people, so I approach them with care. If someone can laugh and then pause and say, “Wait, that’s actually true,” then I know I’ve done what I set out to do.“
6. You’ve partnered with some major brands. How do you maintain authenticity while creating branded content, and what’s your key to making ads entertaining?
“I always tell brands: “The audience comes first.” And also not all money is good money. If it doesn’t feel like something I’d actually post, I won’t do it. I always ask myself, “Would my audience still enjoy this if they didn’t know it was an ad?” That’s the standard.
What’s worked for me is finding the humor in the product’s purpose not just promoting it, but building a storyline around it that’s entertaining on its own. Whether it’s a skit, a plot twist, or a parody, I make sure the ad blends into my world naturally. The best compliments I get are when people watch a brand deal and still forget it’s an ad because to me, that means I’ve done it right without losing myself in the process.“
7. What sparked your transition from being just funny to using comedy as a marketing tool?
“I noticed that people skip ads — but they don’t skip jokes. So I thought, why not put the ad inside the joke? I didn’t want to be another guy just holding a product awkwardly on camera. I wanted to weave the brand into the story so well that even if you weren’t interested in the product, you’d still share the video because it made you laugh.“
8. How do you strike that balance between making people laugh and subtly delivering a brand’s message?
“Simple, I start with the story because that’s what makes people stay. The best way to spotlight a brand is to wrap it in something people actually want to watch. I always ask, “How can this product live inside a moment that feels real or funny?” That way, the brand isn’t just inserted it’s integrated. Viewers laugh, stay engaged, and the brand ends up being the punchline they remember in a good way. People want to laugh, not feel like they’re in a digital market. But with the right balance, they’ll laugh — and still remember the brand.”
9. With such a strong digital presence, where do you see the future of online comedy heading? What mark do you hope to leave as Joey?
“I think we’re moving into a space where comedy isn’t just about making people laugh, it’s about making them feel something too. People are drawn to creators who can entertain but also offer depth, originality, and a unique point of view. It’s no longer just about quick trends it’s about building something that lasts.
For me, I want to be remembered as someone who made intelligent comedy engaging and global the kind of content that’s funny, but also clever and thought-provoking. I’m definitely considering stand-up in the future, but only when the timing is right. I want it to feel natural, not forced. When I step into that space, I want it to hit just as hard as my skits sharp, honest, and unmistakably me.“
10. You’ve built a loyal global fanbase. How do you stay connected with your audience, especially those back home in Ghana, and what’s the most rewarding part of being a content creator?
“I’m very intentional about keeping my content rooted in home, even when I’m abroad. Whether it’s shooting in Ghana, using local slang, or referencing our culture it’s my way of saying, “I haven’t forgotten.”
The most rewarding part? I would say the networks and opportunities this gives you and also when someone messages me from a random part of the world saying, “You made my day” or “This reminded me of home.” That’s when I realize it’s bigger than views — it’s impact. It’s legacy. And it’s laughs that travel.“
11. You’ve got fans across the world. How do you manage to stay relatable across borders?
“I tap into the universal truths. No matter where you’re from, you’ve felt those things. My goal has always been to go global so I create content that cuts across. I avoid relying too heavily on language or hyper-local references that might box me in.
I focus on human experiences that translate universally. I want someone in Accra, London, or Atlanta to laugh the same way without needing someone to explain the joke to them .The goal has never been to blow in one country. It’s to connect everywhere.“

Kwabena Agyapong is a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party
Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyapong, has refuted claims that he was the person who came up with the ‘top-from-bottom’ approach to elect a flagbearer first before electing party’s executives, as announced by the party’s National Executive Committee.
Speaking in a viral video clip from a recent event sighted by GhanaWeb, Agyapong indicated that the proposal he sent to the leadership of the party is very different from what has been announced.
“I was one of the people the committee called to say that the proposals I made were very good, and I thank them. So, I was thinking that they had accepted everything I proposed, because I was confident that they would help the party,” he said.
He, however, pointed out that some of the proposals — including the expansion of the party’s electoral college to include former constituency chairmen, former regional executives, former national executives, former Members of Parliament, former Ministers of State, former DCEs, and polling station executives — seem to have been ignored.
He indicated that he questioned the leadership of the party on the part of his proposal that involves the expansion of the electoral college to make it more inclusive, but they did not give him any tangible answer.
“Some people who had their own agenda took only the aspect of my proposal that had to do with presidential [elections]. I keep hearing in the news that Kwabena Agyapong says ‘top-from-bottom,’ but I never said that, nor did I mention ‘bottom-from-top’,” he said.
He added that his suggestion was that, due to the current situation the NPP finds itself in — which seems to be creating division — the party could hold its flagbearership election first, after expanding its electoral college.
Watch the video below:
Kwabena Agyapong only echoed what every honest delegate is thinking, the NPP cannot afford to impose leadership from the top down again. It failed us in 2024, and repeating it will be our biggest mistake.

The Ghanaian economy has showed early signs of potential out-performance in 2025
Despite projections that Ghana’s economy will grow between 4.5% and 4.8% by the end of 2025, IC Research has indicated that the country’s GDP could surpass these estimates.
In its paper titled “Ghana’s Q1 2025 Real GDP Growth: Green Shoots in Tight Soil”, IC Research noted that the strong performance of the economy in the first quarter of 2025 suggests a higher-than-expected growth rate.
According to the report, the Ghanaian economy showed early signs of potential out-performance in 2025, as real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth defied the negative impact of fiscal restraint and posted a better-than-expected result in the first quarter of 2025.
Overall, real GDP growth reached 5.3% year-on-year, compared to 4.9% recorded in the same period of 2024.
“We foresee full-year 2025 overall growth likely exceeding our upper-band forecast of 4.8%. However, we have opted to maintain our current forecast range of 3.8% – 4.8% as we await the extent of fiscal drag on the second quarter 2025 performance,” the report stated.
The research firm highlighted that, excluding the oil and gas sector, which contracted during the period, non-oil real GDP grew by an impressive 6.8% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025.
“This reflects strong underlying momentum in the real economy and has significantly boosted our optimism about Ghana’s growth outlook for 2025, despite the downside risks posed by fiscal tightening,” the report added.
Growth in the first quarter was driven by several key sectors, including Fishing (16.6%), ICT (13.1%), Finance and Insurance (9.3%), Transport and Storage (8.6%), Trade (7.1%), Crops and Cocoa (6.7%), and Manufacturing (6.6%).
IC Research also noted that the agriculture sector delivered a surprising 6.6% growth in the first quarter of 2025, largely due to robust growth in the high-weight crops sub-sector (6.7% year-on-year). This, the report said, is likely contributing to the declining trend in annual food inflation observed since February 2025.
“We note that the impressive performance in the crops sector has yet to reflect the government’s ongoing investments in agriculture, which aim to support lower food inflation,” it emphasised.

Ghanaian sound engineer and producer GuiltyBeatz has shared the unexpected story behind how he landed a major collaboration with global superstar Beyoncé.
Speaking in an interview with Sincerely Accra, which was shared on X on Monday, June 23, 2025, GuiltyBeatz recounted how a routine studio session turned into a career-defining moment.
“I had just landed in Ghana from a trip. I was a bit jet-lagged but had a session scheduled with a few other producers. We were just vibing in the studio when Beyoncé’s team suddenly showed up,” he stated.
According to GuiltyBeatz, the visit was unannounced, and none of the producers had been informed in advance.
“Her team didn’t waste time. They came in, connected some aux cables, and simply asked each of us to play what we had. No pressure,” he laughed.
When it was his turn, he decided to play the instrumental for ‘Thomas Pompoyɛyaw’, a track he had previously produced for Ghanaian rapper Pappy Kojo.
“I wasn’t sure what to expect, honestly. It’s a very local, highlife-inspired beat, very authentic to the Ghanaian sound. But to my surprise, they were feeling it! They liked the energy, the bounce, everything. That was the beat that caught their attention,” he recounted.
Shortly after, GuiltyBeatz received word that he had been selected to work with Beyoncé on a project.
“The very next day, she came to my studio with her entire team. We locked in and started working right away. It was surreal. She was down-to-earth, focused, and really open to experimenting with African rhythms,” he said.
This collaboration became part of Beyoncé’s widely acclaimed 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift, where she spotlighted African artists and sounds.
GuiltyBeatz went on to contribute to multiple tracks on the album, including ‘Already’ featuring Shatta Wale and ‘Keys to the Kingdom’.
Reflecting on the experience, he said, “It taught me that sometimes, all you have to do is show up and stay true to your sound. You never know who’s listening.”

Dr. Bryan Acheampong being prayed for during his visit
Dr Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi, has made a faith-driven declaration after he officially announced his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a symbolic gesture of spiritual alignment, the former Minister of Food and Agriculture visited the Moderator and members of the General Council of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
The meeting, described by Dr Acheampong as deeply moving, was filled with prayer, reflection, and anointing.
“Today, I visited the Moderator and some members of the General Council of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. I reaffirmed the spiritual roots that have shaped my values, my leadership, and my sense of purpose. It was a deeply moving encounter filled with reflection, prayer, and anointing. Faith is not just a part of my story, it is the foundation on which it stands,” he posted on X following the visit.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting, Bryan Acheampong explained that given the spiritual weight of his presidential ambition, it was important to first seek the Church’s blessings and prayerful support before moving forward.
“I want to start with God and finish with God. I’m a politician and you know how treacherous the political journey can be, and God is the requirement for a journey like this, and the requirement for life. Therefore, I needed to see the church and seek their blessings and continuous prayer while I embark on this journey,” he said.
Dr Bryan Acheampong is expected to face stiff competition from former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong in the race to become the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate for the December 7, 2028, general elections.

Electrochem gives interest-free loans to over 120 women
Electrochem Ghana is deepening its commitment to women’s empowerment and local economic development through its Women Support Scheme which has already provided interest-free loans to more than 120 women in the Ada region this year alone.
The initiative enables women to start or expand businesses in sectors such as agriculture, retail, beauty, and tailoring.
Beneficiaries have used the funds to invest in critical tools and infrastructure— from market stalls to sewing machines — creating sustainable income streams that support families and uplift communities.
Since its launch in 2021, the scheme has supported over 500 women entrepreneurs, financing diverse ventures including poultry farms and tailoring cooperatives.
By eliminating interest on loans, Electrochem ensures that every cedi borrowed goes directly into the hands of women building their futures.
“Empowering women is essential to building stronger communities and resilient local economies,” the company stated, highlighting that beyond financial support, recipients also benefit from mentorship and peer networking opportunities that help grow their confidence and leadership.
Electrochem is now calling on NGOs, microfinance institutions, and corporate partners to join forces in scaling the impact of the initiative.
The company is also encouraging eligible women to connect with its Sustainability team to learn more about how to access the scheme.
“These 120 new recipients are not just business owners—they’re catalysts for growth, innovation, and dignity in Ada,” the statement added, underscoring the transformative ripple effect of empowering women at the grassroots level.
Julian Álvarez’s streak of silverware success has finally come to an end. For the first time since his professional debut, the Argentine forward finishes a season without winning a single trophy, following Atletico Madrid’s group-stage exit from the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Since breaking into River Plate’s senior team in 2018, Álvarez had enjoyed an unbroken run of annual triumphs.
His debut season saw him lift the Copa Libertadores, and from there, the titles kept flowing.
Between River Plate and his time at Manchester City, Álvarez collected an enviable list of honours including the Copa Argentina, Copa América, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and a historic treble with City in 2023.
That season alone brought him the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, Super Cup and the Club World Cup, further cementing his reputation as one of the game’s most decorated young forwards.
But 2025 has been different.
After joining Atletico Madrid in a big money move to La Liga, Álvarez’s brilliance continued.
He finished as the club’s top scorer with 29 goals across all competitions, seamlessly adapting to Diego Simeone’s system and becoming a fan favourite at the Metropolitano.
Despite his efforts, Atletico’s collective shortcomings proved costly. They were eliminated in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, fell short in the Copa del Rey semifinals, and ended the La Liga campaign in third place, ensuring no domestic silverware.
The final blow came at the 2025 Club World Cup. Atletico’s hopes were dashed in the group stage despite a 1-0 win over Botafogo, with a heavy 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain all but ending their tournament.
That result sealed Álvarez’s first-ever trophy-less season, marking a stark contrast to the winning culture he had known year after year.

Accra, June 24, GNA-Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has urged the Management Committee of the Parliamentary Friendship Association to foster strategic diplomacy, promote peace, expand trade and encourage cultural exchanges with sister parliamentary associations across the world.
He, therefore, urged the Management Committee to develop comprehensive guidelines for its engagements and activities, as well as promote innovation and strategic partnerships.
Mr Bagbin gave the advice at Parliament House in Accra on Tuesday, during the inauguration of the Management Committee of Parliamentary Friendship Association of the Ninth Parliament.
He said that the inauguration of the Association would usher in a new chapter for international diplomacy and thus entreated them to work with integrity, purposefulness, transparency and accountability.
“This is why the inauguration of this Management Committee is so critical. It must not only exist in name, but must be driven by action and focus on results,” he advised.
Mr Bagbin charged the Association to make frantic efforts to exchange experiences and ideas with sister associations for renewed hope and peace across the world.
He encouraged the Association to sign memorandum of understanding (MoU) with their counterparts worldwide in key thematic areas including trade, technology, cultural exchanges, education and sustainable development.
Mr Bagbin underscored the need for the Management Committee to rope in the independent and female legislators into its setup, noting that with the right leadership, it would strengthen international diplomacy that would benefit all Ghanaians.
Mr Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan, the Chairman of the Management Committee of Parliamentary Friendship Association and Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, said the Committee was an important management structure and pledged to work assiduously to ensure it functioned effectively to realise the desired goals.
“It will take its oversight responsibilities seriously to bring renewed hope in the governance of the Association’s cooperation,” he assured.
Mr Maher Kheir, the Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Lebanon Ambassador to Ghana, pledged to work collaboratively with Ghana’s Parliamentary Friendship Association to promote co-operation and integration among sister associations across the country.
Mr Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, was of the belief that national parliamentary friendship associations served as a critical avenue for parliamentarians to network and resolve challenges in sister parliament across the world.
More also, parliamentarians could leverage their friendship with other sister associations to contest for international positions, the lawmaker stated.
Mr Jerry Ahmed Shiab, the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, who represented the Minority Leader, said in view of the complex global challenges, it was crucial to leverage national parliamentary friendship associations to build bridges, deepen interactions and diplomacy among parliamentarians globally.

Ace Ghanaian gospel musician Jacob Kwaw, popularly known as Jack Alolome, has revealed how a bitter experience with the NPP propelled him to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on June 23, 2025, Alolome, who was originally a supporter of the NPP and raised by diehard members of the party, shared how he once supported an NPP event in Kumasi, abandoning his own show in Breman Asikuma to perform at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.
“There was an NPP programme at the Kumasi Sports Stadium, for which Sam Pyne asked me to perform. I had to stop my own programme at Breman Asikuma. We came and gave a great performance,” he narrated.
He recalled being introduced by Lord Inusah and improvising a campaign song on the spot. However, when it came to payment, nobody took responsibility.
“Whoever I called for payment referred me to someone else. We were never paid,” he lamented.
His turning point came later that year when NDC MP Kofi Buah invited him to perform at a campaign event.
“On the day, the DJ struggled to play my song, so I had to perform a cappella. I did that for about five minutes on stage. Later, when I returned to my hotel, they came to thank me for gracing the occasion.
“When I checked the money they had left for me, it was GH¢20,000, back in 2016. I placed it on my bed, took a picture, and sent it to my family, telling them this party was better and that we should be with them instead,” he shared.
Alolome clarified that his alignment with the NDC wasn’t driven by greed but by respect and gratitude.
Their willingness to honor his contribution, he said, showed that he would be treated better compared to his experience with the NPP. Since then, he has thrown his support behind the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama.
Kumawood actor-turned-comedian, Dr. Likee, has broken his silence over swirling fraud allegations linked to his camp, firmly distancing himself and his team from any shady dealings.
In the wake of the recent FBI arrest of Ghanaian businessman Kofi Boat, social media users began pointing fingers at individuals from Breman UGC — particularly some members associated with Dr. Likee’s team — alleging involvement in fraudulent activities.
Former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has revealed that integrity and competence should be the primary considerations when selecting a flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), rather than an individual’s wealth as per reports from Ghana Web on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
In an interview with 1957 News, monitored by GhanaWeb, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu highlighted that the NPP’s Constitution mandates that any aspiring flagbearer must have been a party member for at least four years and be in good standing.
He stated that this requirement shows a commitment to the party and their values.
“Governance is not about someone saying, ‘I have money to do this, I have money to do that,’” Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu pointed out.
He added that no single person can fully finance a campaign, stressing that financial contributions, while significant, should not overshadow the qualities needed to lead the nation.
The former Majority Leader argued that it’s not enough for a candidate to possess wealth competence, character, and integrity are paramount.
“You are looking at the competence of the person, the integrity, the character, and the ingenuity to lead,” he explained.
His remarks come amid statements from flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, who pledged to raise $7 million for the party if it adopts a bottom-up approach in conducting its internal elections.
Former Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC), Nana Akomea, has stated that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) post-election Thank You tour was gradually becoming a popularity contest instead of a unity-building exercise.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Akomea expressed concern that some party members used the tour to showcase their loyalty to certain flagbearer hopefuls, rather than promoting party unity.
“Our Thank You tour started becoming a popularity contest. People felt they needed to show they supported one person more than the other, and that created tension,” he said.
His comments follow widespread controversies that surrounded the party’s nationwide tour in May this year.
Former presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong even pulled out of the tour after a student was reportedly stabbed during one of the tour’s events at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
“In all the regions we visited, there were misunderstandings. At Berekum and Bantama, there was chaos – and this was supposed to be a Thank You tour,” Nana Akomea lamented.
He also cited an incident involving the arrest of Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, saying, “Even when Chairman Wontumi was arrested at EOCO, people were fighting over who would pay his bail – just to show who supports who in the flagbearer race. That was pure showmanship.”
According to the former National Communications Director, the NPP is becoming increasingly divided along the lines of religion, ethnicity, and loyalty to various flagbearer hopefuls.
“There is division over religion, over tribe, and all because of people eyeing the flagbearer slot. This is not good for the party,” he stressed.
He revealed that the growing disunity forced the party’s leadership to take swift action.
“The National Council decided we can’t wait any longer for the congress. With all these divisions, sitting idle was not an option,” he explained. “That is why we have scheduled the flagbearer election for January 2026, to end all the chaos and confusion.”
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially announced that its presidential primary will be held on Saturday, 31st January 2026, following a crucial meeting by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Tuesday, 17th June 2025.

Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has officially announced his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He made the declaration during a meeting with the leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, where he sought their prayers and blessings ahead of the contest.
Addressing the media after the meeting on Tuesday, June 24, Dr. Acheampong said his decision was influenced by an exploratory team that spent a month assessing the sentiments of delegates across the country.
According to him, the feedback indicated a strong desire for new leadership, one whose qualities, he believes, align with his own.
“…A decision has been made that I will contest when the party opens nominations, but to do that, as a product of the church, it will be a disappointment per my tradition, if the moderator of the church hears it for the first time on the radio.
“So, before the formal announcement is made, I thought it wise to inform the general council and the moderator of the presby church. Most importantly, I am here to also seek the blessings of God.”

A spokesperson of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, Kwasi Kwarteng, has revealed a shocking development between the former president Akufo-Addo and the former vice president Dr Bawumia.
According to Kwasi Kwarteng, Akufo-Addo has abandoned Bawumia.
Kwasi Kwarteng is quoted by GHONE TV as having stated, I can say for a fact that former President Akufo-Addo has abandoned Bawumia”.

Ghana’s “reset agenda” is a bold attempt to reboot its democratic systems, tackle corruption, and restore trust in public institutions. At the heart of this transformation is a powerful actor with the potential to make or break the vision: the media. Whether traditional or digital, the media is not just a platform for information—it is a force that molds how people think, what they believe, and how they act, especially regarding leadership and democratic values. But for Ghana’s reset agenda to truly gain traction, the media must rise above partisanship and impunity and fulfill its role as an independent, ethical, and fearless pillar of democratic governance.
The Media’s Influence: Power with Purpose
At its best, the media sets the tone for national discourse. It can normalize values like transparency, integrity, and civic responsibility simply by spotlighting them. It educates the public on democratic processes, breaks down complex policies, and connects people to their rights and responsibilities. Through investigative journalism, it can expose corruption, challenge abusive power, and hold public figures to account.
This power to shape perception is not abstract. How the media frames leadership—who gets coverage, what language is used, what stories are prioritized—directly impacts public behavior and belief. A media landscape committed to ethical storytelling reinforces positive leadership models and builds a culture where accountability is the standard, not the exception.
The Challenge: Polarization and Complicity
Despite its promise, Ghana’s media ecosystem is deeply fractured. Political polarization has entrenched media outlets in partisan echo chambers, where the facts are often bent to serve political interests. This undermines trust and fuels public cynicism. Complicity in promoting impunity—whether by ignoring wrongdoing, parroting government narratives, or demonizing dissent—erodes the watchdog role the media is supposed to play.
The consequences are stark. When media platforms become mouthpieces for power instead of its challengers, corruption festers. When journalists abandon critical inquiry in favor of party loyalty, the public loses its most vital tool for holding leaders accountable. Without a reliable media, Ghana’s reset agenda risks becoming just another slogan.
The Way Forward: Reclaiming Media Integrity
To fulfill its mandate, the media in Ghana must return to first principles: truth, independence, and service to the public good.
Professionalism First • Media houses must invest in training that prioritizes ethical reporting, investigative skills, and the courage to speak truth to power. • A strong, enforceable code of ethics should be the foundation of every newsroom.
True Independence • Editorial decisions must be protected from political and corporate interference. • Ownership transparency is critical to prevent hidden agendas from dictating narratives.
Accountability Through Journalism • Investigative reporting must be supported, funded, and celebrated—not punished. • Stories that expose misuse of power should not be exceptional—they should be the norm.
Regulatory Reform and Protection • The National Media Commission must be empowered with real enforcement capabilities. • Journalists must be protected from harassment, threats, and violence—conditions that silence critical voices.
Civic Engagement and Education • Media must not only inform but activate. • Programs that educate citizens about their rights and inspire political participation should be a staple, not a side note.
A Cultural Force for Democratic Change
The media shapes more than headlines—it shapes culture. What is normalized in media becomes normalized in society. When the media celebrates integrity, exposes impunity, and centers the voices of everyday citizens, it drives cultural shifts toward democratic accountability. It changes how leadership is understood, how power is questioned, and how people behave in the public square.
Ghana’s reset agenda is a call for a renewed democracy. For that call to be answered, the media must lead—not from behind a curtain of bias, but from the front lines of truth. This isn’t just about better journalism. It’s about reshaping the national imagination around leadership and civic duty. A credible, independent, and principled media is not a luxury—it is the engine of Ghana’s democratic revival.

The Minority in Parliament has strongly condemned the mass dismissal of over 100 employees of the Bank of Ghana, describing the action as unconstitutional, unlawful, and morally unacceptable.
At a press conference on Tuesday, 24 June, the Minority expressed outrage over the terminations, which they claim were carried out without due process, prior consultation, or any justifiable cause.
Terminations in Violation of Labour and Constitutional Rights
According to the Minority, the dismissed employees were legally recruited, duly vetted, and had been contributing meaningfully to national development. However, they were abruptly removed following a directive from the Chief of Staff, dated 11 February 2025, which called for the revocation of all public sector appointments made after 7 December 2024.
“This directive is wholly unconstitutional and unlawful,” the Minority asserted. “No such directive has legal authority, and institutions must not act on political whims.”
They cited Article 24 of the 1992 Constitution, which guarantees every Ghanaian the right to work under fair and satisfactory conditions, and Article 23, which requires public institutions to act fairly and in accordance with the law.
Additionally, the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) outlines specific grounds under which terminations may be lawfully carried out, including misconduct, incapacity, or redundancy. The Minority insists that none of these grounds applied in the Bank of Ghana’s decision. Procedural Breaches Ignored
The Minority further pointed out that, even if the dismissals were based on redundancy, the Bank of Ghana failed to meet legal obligations such as notifying the Chief Labour Officer, consulting affected staff, or providing compensation — actions required by law. Probation Status Not a Justification
They also dismissed claims that the dismissals could be justified on the basis that some staff were on probation.
“Probation is not a licence for arbitrary or unjustified termination,” they argued, stressing that probationary employees are still entitled to fair assessments, documented feedback, and constitutional protection.
The Minority has therefore called for the immediate reinstatement of the affected workers, insisting that Ghana’s labour laws and constitutional safeguards must be upheld by all public institutions, including the central bank.
Disrespect to Parliament and Democratic Oversight
The Minority further decried the Bank of Ghana’s decision to proceed with the dismissals despite a pending motion for a parliamentary inquiry into the matter.
This, they said, was a clear affront to Parliament and a disregard for democratic accountability.
Human and Social Impact
Beyond the legal issues, the Minority emphasised the human cost of the dismissals. The affected workers are described as young professionals, parents, and breadwinners who now face economic hardship and psychological distress due to the sudden loss of employment.
“This is more than a legal issue — it is a moral crisis,” the statement stressed.
Calls for Immediate Action and Accountability
The Minority has put forward a series of demands:
Immediate Reinstatement: All dismissed workers should be reinstated without delay, recognising the lawfulness of their original appointments and the unlawfulness of their terminations.
Accountability from the Bank Governor: The Governor of the Bank of Ghana must appear before Parliament to explain the mass dismissals and be held accountable for what the Minority described as an abuse of power.
Intervention by Labour Authorities: The Chief Labour Officer, National Labour Commission, and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) are called upon to intervene promptly to protect the rights of the workers and halt what is described as lawlessness.
Legal Support for Affected Workers: The Minority assured dismissed employees that they have the right to seek justice through the courts under Article 33 of the Constitution and pledged to support their legal efforts.
Parliamentary Inquiry: The Minority vowed to pursue a vigorous parliamentary inquiry to expose the injustice, reverse the dismissals, and hold those responsible accountable.
A Stand for Rule of Law
The statement concluded with a resolute affirmation of commitment to the rule of law, democracy, and protection of workers’ rights.
“This is not just about these 100 workers. It is about the soul of our Republic. We must choose between rule of law and rule by decree. Parliament must stand firm. Institutions must act within the law. Workers must be protected,” the Minority declared.
They warned the Bank of Ghana that it cannot hide behind secrecy or power and that the people of Ghana are watching closely.
They pledged unwavering support for the dismissed workers until justice is achieved, and their jobs restored.

Despite initial forecasts that estimated GDP growth between 4.5% and 4.8% for the year, early indicators suggest the country could outperform these projections.
Q1 GDP growth exceeds expectations
In its latest publication titled “Ghana’s Q1 2025 Real GDP Growth: Green Shoots in Tight Soil”, IC Research revealed that Ghana’s economy grew by 5.3% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, outperforming the 4.9% recorded in Q1 2024. This growth came in spite of fiscal restraints aimed at stabilising the economy.
“We foresee full-year 2025 overall growth likely exceeding our upper-band forecast of 4.8%. However, we have opted to maintain our current forecast range of 3.8% to 4.8% as we await the extent of fiscal drag on the second quarter 2025 performance,” the report stated.

One of the report’s most optimistic revelations is the strong growth in the non-oil sector, which recorded a year-on-year increase of 6.8% in Q1. This growth occurred despite a contraction in the oil and gas sector during the same period.
“This reflects strong underlying momentum in the real economy and has significantly boosted our optimism about Ghana’s growth outlook for 2025, despite the downside risks posed by fiscal tightening,” the report noted.
Sectoral Contributions to Growth
Several key sectors contributed to the overall economic performance:
Fishing: 16.6%
Information and Communication Technology (ICT): 13.1%
Finance and Insurance: 9.3%
Transport and Storage: 8.6%
Trade: 7.1%
Crops and Cocoa: 6.7%
Manufacturing: 6.6%
Agriculture sector surprises analysts
The agriculture sector posted a remarkable 6.6% growth in Q1, driven mainly by a 6.7% increase in the high-weight crops sub-sector. IC Research highlighted this performance as a contributing factor to the consistent decline in annual food inflation since February 2025.
“We note that the impressive performance in the crops sector has yet to reflect the government’s ongoing investments in agriculture, which aim to support lower food inflation,” the report emphasised.
While the research firm is optimistic about the trajectory of Ghana’s economy, it remains cautious due to potential fiscal constraints in subsequent quarters. For now, the strong Q1 performance has raised hopes that Ghana could close the year with GDP growth that surpasses earlier estimates.
Ghanaian musician, D-Black (pictured) says he had a mental break but kept it to himself
Ghanaian musician, Desmond Kwesi Blackmore popularly known as D-Black, has disclosed the emotional challenge he faced in 2024.
In an interview with Pulse Ghana, shared on social media on June 24, 2025, D-Black noted that he kept such challenging times to himself.
He explained that the reason why he keeps such issues to himself is because he believes such situations can’t be solved when discussed with people.
“Last year, I was doing so much business-wise, I broke down and nobody knew. I told you I don’t show emotions so I just kept it because it is between me and my God. If I tell you, what are you going to do about it?” he said.
D-Black further noted that the only person he communicates with when facing emotional challenges is God.
He added, however, that he is currently in a good place.
“The only person who can help me is God so I tell him and in his time he makes everything work. But right now I am good,” he added.

Cletus Seidu Dapilah, Member of Parliament for Jirapa, has heavily criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their approach to rebuilding after their defeat in the 2024 general elections as reported by Ghana Web.
Speaking on GHOne TV’s GHToday, Dapilah expressed disappointment that the party was focusing on rebuilding from the top rather than addressing the concerns at the grassroots level.
He argued that the NPP’s failure to learn from their loss had led to a misplaced plan.
“You cannot organise a party using a top-bottom approach,” he said. “When the foundation is weak, you will lose elections. Nothing can save you.”
Dapilah emphasised that the party should have focused on restoring confidence among the base first, particularly after losing by over 1.7 million votes.
The Jirapa MP highlighted that the party’s swift move to internal activities like organizing communicators and advancing leadership ambitions ignored the underlying dissatisfaction among their supporters.
He stated, “You’ve lost elections. Why did you lose the elections? It is because your base was disgruntled.”
Dapilah pointed out that proper rebuilding begins with organizing polling station executives, zonal coordinators, and ward structures.
He reminded the NPP of President Akufo-Addo’s reflective pause after his 2012 defeat.
He also warned that the criticism from senior NPP members like Kennedy Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong signalled deeper issues within the party, which, if left unaddressed, could affect theiir performance in future elections.
Asante-Akim North MP and leading member of Dr Bryan Acheampong’s campaign, says the former Minister for Food and Agriculture possesses unmatched political experience that sets him apart from other flagbearer hopefuls in the New Patriotic Party’s 2026 primary.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, June 24, Andy Appiah-Kubi argued that despite facing key contenders such as former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Acheampong’s long-standing political journey gives him the edge.
“Dr Bryan Acheampong has been a fourth-term Member of Parliament. Just contesting in one particular election doesn’t give you the experience that he has, having contested on four different occasions to qualify to Parliament,” he stated.
According to him, the experience gained across multiple political roles gives Dr Acheampong deeper insight, knowledge, and the networks necessary to lead both the NPP and the country.
Commenting further on the issue of delegate mobilisation, Mr Appiah-Kubi dismissed the notion that Mr Acheampong’s campaign lacked visibility, stressing that strategic engagement was underway.
“Our strategy is not just to advertise before we implement the strategy. Our focus is to implement the strategy and to generate the results. We have met with a lot of people, conferred with them, and some are already working for us,” he revealed.
The NPP is expected to hold an early presidential primary in January 2026 to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Former Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) for Mfanteman, Ike Lord Ennu says the former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) never endorsed former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their presidential candidate.
In clarifying the public notion on behalf of his colleagues, he urged Ghanaians to disregard such claims.
The Speaker of Parliament has upheld the validity of the Appointments Committee’s report on the vetting of Supreme Court nominees.
He dismissed objections raised by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who claimed the Minority side had not endorsed the document.
The ruling followed heated exchanges on the floor over procedural fairness and the integrity of the vetting process.
Mr Afenyo-Markin had opposed the report’s presentation, insisting it lacked his side’s signatures and accusing the Committee of sidelining their inputs.
However, Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, countered that the Minority’s preliminary written comments had already been incorporated.
He revealed that Afenyo-Markin had submitted a last-minute request for further revisions this morning, which he deemed procedurally untenable.
After all these, the Speaker concluded that the report was duly prepared and vetted.
According to him, he is aware of what transpired prior to the report presentation, explaining that “you even sought my assistance in some of these matters in my conference room, and went through them together.”
“We thought we had settled them. Now they are being rehashed. I don’t think that is proper. When we are talking about a report of a committee, we are talking about the whole committee. We are not talking about individuals in certain things to suit their understanding of a report of the committee.”
Alban Bagbin added that the Minority will still have the opportunity to present its other concerns regarding the report when it’s laid before the house.
“Whatever you have to say, you can say it here on the floor as part of your contributions to the deliberations of the house. I will give you enough time to say it. We cannot expect the report to capture everything. Please. You will not be prevented from saying what you want to say. But when we talk about the report, we are talking about the report capturing the decision of the whole committee. That is what we are looking at. So please, I think the report is properly before the House and it will be presented. And it will be taken by this house today.”

Patrick Yaw Boamah, Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central
The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could have performed much better in the 2024 general elections if the party’s leadership had paid closer attention to the concerns of Ghanaians.
Speaking on ChannelOne TV’s The Point of View on June 23, 2025, Boamah reflected on the party’s past electoral fortunes, comparing the NPP’s landslide victory in 2016, when it won by a margin of about one million votes and secured approximately 169 parliamentary seats, with its performance in 2020, when it won with over 500,000 votes and 137 seats, plus an independent seat.
However, the story was different in the 2024 general elections.
According to him, the 2024 election presented a different dynamic across the country, with noticeable dissatisfaction in key regions such as Ashanti, Eastern, and Greater Accra.
He noted that voters in these key regions were expressing discontent, and internal party members were calling for a reshuffle of long-serving appointees.
“Party folks were calling for a major reshuffle. People had stayed in office for four, five, six, seven, even eight years, DCEs, some chief executives, and others. But it did not happen. The elections told us that if we had listened, we would have done far better than we did,” he stated.
He further remarked that God was speaking to the NPP at the time, and had the party listened and implemented the right measures, it would not have lost to the NDC.
“I believe God was talking to the NPP at the time, and we should have listened to the good people of this country and put in place the right measures and policies to make the people happy,” he said.

Former Ambassador of Ghana to the USA Hajia Alima Mahama (L) challenges Okudzeto Ablakwa’s claims
A former Ambassador of Ghana to the USA, Hajia Alima Mahama, has refuted a claim by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, that Fred Kwarteng, a former staff member of the country’s embassy in Washington, made $4.8 million annually through illegal means at the expense of the state.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on June 23, 2025, Hajia Mahama said that the numbers given by the minister on the operations of Fred Kwarteng’s company, GTC, which she said had a valid contract with the embassy, were incorrect.
She also refuted the minister’s assertion that the monies made by Kwarteng’s company, which basically renders courier services for passport and visa applications of the embassy, were to the detriment of the state.
“I don’t know where he got his calculations from, but it can’t be true. How can it be a loss to Ghana? Like I have been saying, Ghana isn’t involved in courier services. We have hired this company to do courier services for us.
“He (Fred Kwarteng) went to these various companies to negotiate for a discount, and they gave him a flat rate. He charged his client $29.75 per delivery… even if he puts three passports in an envelope, he will still charge $29.75. And we don’t make more than 2,000 (passports) a quarter.”
She disclosed that even the revenue the embassy gets from the issuance of visas annually is less than $4 million.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who is also the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, disclosed that findings in the ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct at Ghana’s Embassy in Washington showed that the key suspect in the scandal, Fred Kwarteng, earned a staggering $4.8 million annually while serving at the embassy.
“Mr Speaker, investigations conducted by the top management of our ministry revealed that GTC dispatched between 150 and 350 visas and passports daily. On average, about 250 visas and passports were dispatched per day.
“Right Honourable Speaker, this implies that GTC dispatched approximately 62,500 visas and passports annually. Mr Fred Kwarteng was therefore raking in an estimated $1.8 million each year from courier services alone. Mr Speaker, you can comprehend the substantial sum he earned annually when you add the fees he charged between $60 and $100 for assisting applicants in completing their visa and passport forms. By a conservative analysis, he made about $4.8 million annually from this unlawful enterprise,” Ablakwa disclosed this on the floor of Parliament on June 18, 2025.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has announced the dates for the 2025 Closed Fishing Season, a key government initiative aimed at restoring Ghana’s dwindling marine fish stock.
In a press release dated June 23, 2025, the Ministry revealed that industrial trawlers will be banned from fishing between July 1 and August 31, 2025, while semi-industrial inshore vessels will observe a one-month closure from July 1 to July 31.
The directive, issued in collaboration with the Fisheries Commission, forms part of national efforts to ensure the sustainability of Ghana’s fisheries industry, which supports millions of livelihoods and contributes significantly to the country’s food supply.
“These measures are in line with Ghana’s national fisheries strategy and global best practices aimed at the regeneration of fish stocks in our oceans,” the statement said.
While marine canoe fishers have been exempted from the closed season, the Ministry insists this does not free them from other fishing regulations.
They are required to respect traditional fishing holidays, such as the no-fishing Tuesdays, and to avoid illegal practices like light fishing, as well as the use of harmful chemicals and explosives.
“Undersized nets, explosives, light fishing, and all forms of IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing will not be tolerated,” the statement stressed.
The Fisheries Enforcement Unit (FEU), in collaboration with local and national authorities, will be on high alert during the season to crack down on violators.
The Ministry has warned that strict penalties will be imposed on individuals or groups that flout the rules.
It is also working with scientists and environmental experts to evaluate the long-term impacts of the closed season. Plans are underway to establish Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to further support Ghana’s fisheries sustainability goals.
Local assemblies, fisheries associations, and community leaders are being called upon to raise awareness and ensure compliance.
The Ministry believes that through collective responsibility and adherence to the rules, Ghana can secure a healthier, more resilient fisheries sector.

Aboubakar Ouattara is now the Special Advisor to the Board of Hearts of Oak
Accra Hearts of Oak have officially reassigned Aboubakar Ouattara from his position as head coach to a new role as Special Advisor to the club’s Board of Directors.
The reshuffle comes in the wake of the club’s appointment of Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as head coach on a two-year deal.
Ouattara, who has guided the Phobians for the past two seasons, was instrumental in steering the team clear of relegation and finishing fourth in the just-concluded Ghana Premier League campaign.
In an official statement released by the club on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Hearts of Oak confirmed Ouattara’s new role.
“The Board of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club has reassigned Aboubakar Ouattara from the role of Head Coach to Special Advisor to the Board of Directors. As a Special Advisor, he will work directly with the Board on special assignments and duties. The Board extends its congratulations to Aboubakar Ouattara and looks forward to a fruitful collaboration in his new role,” the statement read.
Dramani’s immediate assignment will be to lead the team into the 2025 President’s Cup, where Hearts face fierce rivals Asante Kotoko. The high-profile encounter is set for July 6, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Political scientist Dr Kwame Asah-Asante has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prioritise competence, credibility, and electability over endorsements and media optics as the party intensifies its search for a flagbearer.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, 24 June, Dr Asah-Asante noted that while aspirants are actively engaging in campaign activities—including touring churches and courting support from former MPs and MMDCEs—delegates must exercise discernment in their decision-making.
“Who are the leaders that they want?” he queried. “It doesn’t matter if somebody visits a church or if MPs visit contestants. What matters is the person they are rooting for—are they knowledgeable about the problems facing the country and what they can do if given the mandate?”
With high-profile figures publicly declaring their support for various contenders, Dr Asah-Asante warned against being swayed by such endorsements, stressing that the true power lies with delegates who hold the vote.
“It’s a numbers game,” he explained. “Those with numbers gather support and use it to their advantage, but it’s not just about numbers. It’s about those with the political authority to elect the right leader.”
He emphasised the need for a marketable candidate who can compete effectively against any opponent from rival political parties. “Can the person stand toe to toe with any political contender and win? Is the individual popular and experienced enough to lead the party and transform its fortunes?”
Dr Asah-Asante argued that the ideal candidate must have a proven track record—whether in public service or private enterprise—and the charisma to energise and unify the party base.
He further cautioned that the NPP risks undermining its democratic credentials if it fails to enforce the rules guiding its internal elections. “It is unfortunate that the rules the party set have been flouted. There is no point in setting rules only to allow them to be undermined.”
He called on party leadership to ensure a level playing field and hold all aspirants to the same standards, warning that unchecked infractions could erode internal unity and diminish public confidence in the party’s processes.

Former Anyaa Sowutuom MP, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has cautioned that public declarations of support in internal party contests do not guarantee actual votes, warning former MMDCEs that their endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia could backfire and affect their credibility within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, June 24, Dr. Adomako Kissi questioned the political wisdom behind the move, especially when discussions are ongoing about formally including MMDCEs in the party’s electoral register.
“It is politically immature for the MMDCEs to do this,” he said. “Because Dr. Bryan Acheampong was making a strong case in the NEC meeting that the MMDCEs should be added to the next register for the elections. So if you are being considered to be put in a register, and you make an open declaration for one candidate, it worsens your appeal to be added.”
He criticised the move as misguided and not well thought through, urging party stakeholders to exercise caution and prioritise unity over personal preferences.
According to him, declarations do not necessarily translate into votes and could create unnecessary political tension within the party.
“Declaring to me is not a guarantee that you will vote. My key point is that any upstart politician is even more worried when people are giving him fans. In the interest of the party, [we need] cohesion, and for us to move forward,” he noted.
Dr. Adomako Kissi’s comments come in the wake of a declaration by 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), who announced their support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
At a press conference held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Monday, June 23, the group, under the banner “Forum of Former MMDCEs for Dr. Bawumia,” described their endorsement as a practical commitment to ensure Dr. Bawumia’s victory in both the internal primaries and national elections.
A former National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan, has expressed strong opposition to any move that would allow President John Dramani Mahama to seek a third term through constitutional interpretation as per reports from Ghana Web on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
His comments come in reaction to recent remarks by Freddie Blay who indicated he would support a Supreme Court decision permitting Mahama a return bid for the presidency.
Boateng Gyan dismissed such suggestions, insisting that Ghana’s constitutional framework is clear on presidential term limits.
According to him, altering the Constitution to accommodate an extended presidential tenure would be detrimental to the country’s democratic gains.
He referenced the vetting of recent Supreme Court nominees, where questions on presidential term limits were raised, and all nominees reaffirmed the constitutional two-term provision.
One nominee specifically stated, “two consecutive terms,” reinforcing the interpretation that a president cannot serve beyond two terms under Ghanaian law.
Boateng Gyan noted that while some Francophone nations have a history of modifying their constitutions to allow extended rule, Anglophone countries like Ghana and Nigeria maintain stricter term limits.
“It’s the Francophone countries closer to us that usually do such things,” he said, comparing them with Ghana’s constitutional principles.
He cautioned that any attempt to push for a third term, even through legal interpretation, would undermine public trust and democratic stability.
“When a president’s time is up, they should step aside and allow another person to take over,” he said, urging respect for constitutional boundaries and leadership transitions.
Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi is former Board Chair of GIIF
Lawyers for Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi have filed a motion at the Accra High Court seeking to halt his ongoing trial on constitutional grounds.
The former Board Chair of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) is standing trial alongside the Fund’s former Chief Executive Officer, Solomon Asamoah, for willfully causing financial loss to the state, intentional dissipation of public funds, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
In their application, Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi’s legal team is urging the High Court to strike out the charges, describing them as premature.
They are also invoking Article 130(2) of the 1992 Constitution, asking the court to refer key constitutional questions to the Supreme Court for interpretation.
Article 130(2) requires lower courts to suspend proceedings and refer matters to the apex court if questions arise regarding the interpretation or enforcement of the Constitution, or whether an enactment exceeds constitutional powers.
Specifically, the defence wants the Supreme Court to determine whether Sections 1 and 7 of the Public Property Protection Law (SMCD 140) are consistent with Article 19 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to a fair trial.
Section 1 of SMCD 140 prescribes up to ten years’ imprisonment for the intentional dissipation of public funds and up to five years for other forms of misuse.
Section 7 extends criminal liability to directors, officers, and partners of institutions for offences committed by their organisations, unless they can prove the offence was committed by someone else or that they exercised due diligence.
The defence is also seeking a stay of proceedings at the High Court pending the Supreme Court’s determination of the constitutional questions.
The High Court has adjourned the case to July 9, 2025, for a ruling on the motion.
Meanwhile, prosecutors have amended their case, withdrawn four witness statements, and now intend to rely on eight witnesses in total.

EXCLUSIVE: GhanaWeb investigation uncovers far worse environmental scare than digging for gold
Gospel musician Jack Alolome has opened up about his political alignment, revealing how a single event changed his allegiance from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, monitored by Adomonline.com, the singer recounted how a short performance—lasting just five minutes—became a defining moment in his political journey.
According to Jack, he initially supported the NPP, following the footsteps of his parents, whom he described as “die-hard sympathisers,” along with most of his close friends.
However, he said his experience with the party left him disheartened. He recalled performing at an NPP event in 2016, where he was neither paid nor appreciated.
“I wasn’t paid anything, nothing even for the boys I had come with. They didn’t even recognise that I was doing business. Music is my work,” he lamented.
Jack said he was later invited by an NDC candidate to perform at a campaign launch, after which he was handsomely rewarded.
Despite technical issues cutting his set short, he said the NDC valued his contribution and responded in a way that shocked him.
“Some time back in 2016, I was invited by a politician friend for his campaign launch. I had technical issues on stage and only performed for about five minutes. I even thought I had underperformed.”
To his surprise, party executives visited his hotel room afterward with a thank-you package of GHS 20,000.
“I was shocked. For just five minutes? I knew instantly that these were people who valued others—people who see your effort even when things don’t go as planned. I made up my mind right there—this is a party for the people,” he stated.
Beyond that moment, Jack said he has grown to appreciate the NDC’s policies and their warm reception, even after knowing he once sympathised with the opposing party.
While gospel musicians are often expected to remain politically neutral, Jack Alolome believes otherwise, insisting that politics is about the betterment of the nation and everyone should be involved.
