Board member of Accra Hearts of Oak, Vincent Sowah Odotei Board member of Accra Hearts of Oak, Vincent Sowah Odotei

Ghana Premier League giants, Accra Hearts of Oak, have reiterated their willingness to work with their rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, and the Ghana Football Association to introduce sweeping changes to the Ghana Premier League.

The club, through their board member, Vincent Sowah Odotei, believes that effective collaboration is crucial to addressing the challenges that have bedevilled the country’s flagship sports competition.

While Hearts are determined to see changes in the Ghana Premier League, they are unwilling to hold the FA to ransom by demanding the immediate implementation of their demands before they return to the field.

Vincent Sowah-Odotei stated in a radio interview that the club are working with Kotoko and the GFA to reform the Ghana Premier League.

However, Hearts of Oak will not boycott the league until their wishes and demands are met, as they have absolute belief in the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku to address their issues.

“Let me commend the FA president for his forthright position on what needs to be done to reform our game. Let me make it very clear that Hearts of Oak are going to collaborate with Asante Kotoko and the GFA to make sure that we bring reforms to the game.

“Asante Kotoko have never told Hearts that they want to suspend the league indefinitely. When we met last week, we all agreed that the league could have started this weekend. If Kotoko have a problem with the FA, then they have to resolve it, but in terms of the general interest of the game, we are very resolute with Asante Kotoko for the long-term reforms of the game. We are going to work with the GFA on this matter. We have immediate and long-term changes, and the FA are prepared to work on it,” he said.

His comments come on the back of the declaration by Nana Apinkrah, the chairman of the Interim Management Committee of Asante Kotoko, that the club will not return to the pitch until their demands, which include justice for the murder of popular fan Francis Frimpong, alias Nana Pooley, are met.

“We will go to every length to ensure justice. All those who incited the fans against us, including Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, will be dealt with. The GFA should have by now instituted a probe, but they are sitting somewhere issuing fines,” he said.

Nana Apinkrah also expressed anger over the FA’s supposed lack of proactiveness on the matter.

“You [GFA] are only issuing fines, to the extent that you are fining people who were not even involved. It’s as if you don’t care,” Apinkrah told the Ghana FA in a meeting. “We are angry because it’s painful. It’s very painful.

“I was expecting that by this time, the GFA would have probed into the whole situation, including Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, who incited the fans against us,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested some persons believed to be involved in the chaotic incident that led to the demise of the Asante Kotoko supporter.

Pooley was stabbed during Kotoko’s game against Nsoatreman on February 2, 2025.

MP Slams Ashanti Council Of State Election Vandalism

0

Mavis Nkansah- Boadu

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Sekyere East, Mavis Nkansah-Boadu, has condemned the acts of vandalism and violence that marred the Council of State elections in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

The MP described the events as “unacceptable” and called for immediate action to ensure that such disruptions do not undermine the country’s democratic process.

In a statement released yesterday, Ms. Nkansah-Boadu referenced Article 89 of the Constitution, which mandates the election of regional representatives to the Council of State, who play a crucial advisory role to the President.

According to her, the elections, held nationwide on February 11, were marred in the Ashanti Region by violent disruptions at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council premises, where thugs assaulted Electoral Commission (EC) officials, leading to severe injuries that required hospitalisation.

The MP noted that the violence also targeted police officers, media personnel, and bystanders, with several properties being damaged.

She said as a result of the disturbances, the EC was unable to declare a winner, despite one candidate securing 49 out of the 86 votes cast.

Ms. Nkansah-Boadu pointed out that the election process was halted as the chaos unfolded.

“The violence we have witnessed in recent days is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated,” she said, reflecting on the broader trend of election-related violence that has tarnished the country’s recent democratic processes.

She again condemned the attacks on Electoral Commission officials, the unlawful takeover of state agencies, and other forms of lawlessness that undermine Ghana’s democratic values.

The MP called on all Ghanaians to strongly denounce violence as a means of resolving political differences, asserting that such acts betray the principles of democracy and the trust the nation has worked hard to build.

“We must work together to prevent further violence and restore peace in our nation,” she stated.

Ms. Nkansah-Boadu outlined clear steps for restoring peace and ensuring the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.

She called for the full enforcement of the rule of law, urging that all perpetrators of violence be brought to justice.

She also emphasised that the EC and the Police Service must carry out their duties with courage and impartiality, free from fear or favour.

Additionally, she urged all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation, to promote peace and understanding.

The MP expressed her disappointment over the Electoral Commission’s decision to call for a re-run of the election in the Ashanti Region, despite there being a clear winner.

She called on the Police Service to step up security measures to ensure that the re-run takes place without further disruptions.

MP Nkansah-Boadu reminded Parliament and all Ghanaians of the country’s proud history of peaceful power transitions, emphasising that any act of electoral violence is an affront to the rule of law and Ghana’s democratic legacy.

“We must take an unequivocal stand against such acts, ensuring that those who seek to subvert democracy through violence are met with the full force of the law,” she intimated.

The MP also called on all citizens, political leaders, security forces, and civil society groups to reject violence in all forms and commit to safeguarding Ghana’s peace, stability, and democratic integrity.

Top prosecutor resigns after being told to drop case against NYC mayor

0

The top US prosecutor in Manhattan has resigned after refusing an order to drop a corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Danielle Sassoon, a conservative lawyer recently promoted by President Donald Trump, said dismissing the case would set a “breathtaking and dangerous precedent”.

Sassoon’s departure – along with at least two other top justice department officials – is the latest sign of disquiet over sweeping changes the Trump administration is making in federal law enforcement.

In an indictment last September, Adams is alleged to have accepted gifts totalling more than $100,000 (£75,000) from Turkish citizens in exchange for favours, but he denied the charges.

The case was initially brought by officials appointed by former President Joe Biden.

But on Monday, a Trump appointee, acting deputy attorney general Emil Bove, ordered Sassoon and New York prosecutors to drop the case, saying it “restricted” the mayor’s ability to address “illegal immigration and violent crime” – a key goal of Trump’s administration.

Bove did not address the merits of the case and noted that the justice department would reserve the right to reinstitute the charges after New York City’s mayoral election in November.

Sassoon refused to drop the case, however, setting out her reasoning in a letter to Bove’s boss, Attorney General Pam Bondi, on Thursday and saying she saw no “good faith” reason for dropping the case.

“Because the law does not support a dismissal, and because I am confident that Adams has committed the crimes with which he is charged, I cannot agree to seek a dismissal driven by improper considerations,” she wrote.

Sassoon said her office held a meeting with Bove and lawyers for Adams on 31 January in which the mayor’s representatives offered “what amounted to a quid pro quo”, saying Adams would be able to help with administration policies “only if the indictment were dismissed”.

Alex Spiro, a lawyer for Adams, denied that there was any deal tying immigration enforcement with the dropping of the case.

He said in a statement that  “the idea that there was a quid pro quo [with the Trump administration] is a total lie. We offered nothing and the department asked nothing of us.”

In a letter accepting her resignation, Bove accused Sassoon of attempting to “continue pursuing a politically motivated prosecution despite an express instruction to dismiss the case”.

He also said that other prosecutors who worked on the Adams case would be placed on leave and would be subject to an internal investigation – and that Sassoon would be investigated as well.

Two other justice department prosecutors resigned on Thursday: John Keller, acting head of the public corruption unit, and Kevin Driscoll, a senior official in the department’s criminal division.

Later on Thursday, US media outlets reported three additional prosecutors with the Justice Department’s corruption unit also resigned.

Sassoon, 38, joined the federal prosecutor’s office in Manhattan in 2016 and was part of the team that prosecuted FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried.

The mayor and Trump
Mayor Adams, a Democrat, has expressed a willingness to work with the Trump administration when it comes to the president’s hardline immigration policy. On Thursday, after a meeting with Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan, the mayor agreed that immigration officials could re-establish an office at the city’s Rikers Island jail.

In a statement, Adams said, “I want to work with the new federal administration, not war with them, to find common ground and make better the lives of New Yorkers.”

The New York mayor met with Trump in Florida days before his inauguration and then attended his swearing-in ceremony on 20 January. Adams denied at the time that he discussed his legal issues with the incoming president.

On Thursday, February 14, Trump told reporters that he had not asked for the case against Adams to be dropped.

However, Bove’s letter described his instructions to drop the case as “direct orders implementing the policy of a duly elected President”.

Adams indicted last September
Adams was indicted last autumn on charges of wire fraud, bribery, and receiving campaign contributions from foreigners.

According to a 57-page indictment, the mayor allegedly accepted hotel stays, lavish meals and airline upgrades from Turkish nationals beginning in 2016, when he was president of the New York City borough of Brooklyn.

In one instance, Adams is alleged to have paid $600 for a two-night stay at a luxury hotel in Istanbul, a visit that was valued at approximately $7,000.

He has pleaded not guilty and denies any wrongdoing.

Ghanaians Respond as NPP Minority Rejects Speaker Bagbin’s Suspension of Three MPs

0

The Minority Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament has strongly opposed the suspension of three of its Members of Parliament by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin. The suspended MPs—Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Hon. Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli (Gushegu), and Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib (Weija-Gbawe)—were penalized following disruptions during the vetting of ministerial nominees.

In a statement, the Minority condemned the Speaker’s decision, calling it an abuse of parliamentary authority, selective justice, and a threat to democracy. They argued that the Speaker’s actions contradicted Parliament’s role as a platform for open debate and fair discussion.

The Minority clarified that the chaos during the vetting was not a deliberate attempt to disrupt proceedings but rather a reaction to the Majority’s refusal to ensure fairness and consensus. They claimed tensions arose due to the Majority’s handling of the process, bypassing due process and making unilateral decisions without proper debate.

They also criticized the Chairman of the Appointments Committee for lacking impartiality, which they believe contributed to the disorder. Instead of addressing the root causes of the disturbances, the Speaker chose to unfairly suspend the three MPs.

The NPP Minority further argued that Speaker Bagbin’s decision violated parliamentary procedures and constitutional rights, citing that:

– The Speaker did not follow the proper disciplinary procedures outlined in Standing Orders 130(a) and (b).

– The suspended MPs were not given the chance to defend themselves, as required under Article 19(1) of the Constitution.

– Internal disciplinary procedures were not utilized before resorting to suspension.

The Minority warned that this action sets a dangerous precedent where the Speaker could punish MPs at his discretion, bypassing established parliamentary rules.

They also accused the Speaker of applying double standards based on political affiliation, pointing out that similar or worse incidents had occurred under his leadership without any suspensions.

“This decision seems politically motivated, aiming to intimidate certain MPs and silence opposition voices in Parliament,” the statement concluded.

Declaring Ofori-Atta Fugitive National Embarrassment – NPP

0

Henry Nana Boakye

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described actions of the Special Prosecutor (SP), Kissi Agyebeng, as a national embarrassment given the circumstances in which  the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta was labeled as a ‘fugitive from justice’ by the Special Prosecutor.

Speaking at a press conference at the party’s headquarters yesterday in Accra, the National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, questioned why the SP could make such public statements in spite of the ongoing communication between the former Finance Minister and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Such actions, he explained, if left unaddressed could collectively undermine the due process and provisions of the constitution and the human rights of citizens, rubbishing the judiciary, and further affecting the democratic gains of the country.

He questioned why a lawyer and law lecturer could make such a basic mistake in labeling a person of interest who has not been charged and remains in contact through his lawyers as a wanted individual or fugitive, stressing that Ken Ofori-Atta was not evading accountability as the SP erroneously claimed.

According to Nana B, on January 2, 2025, the former Finance Minister informed the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare of travelling to the United States for a follow-up medical visit, and also included his current and reliable contact information at the end of the letter.

He indicated that on January 22, 2025, Mr. Ofori-Atta again wrote to the new Chief of Staff, under President John Mahama, Mr. Julius Debrah, and also informed him that he was overseas for a medical examination, and asked him not to hesitate to contact him for any information in the interest of the state regarding his former position in government.

The National Organiser of the party stated that Mr. Ofori-Atta also provided reliable email addresses for any required communication and attached his letter to the former Chief of Staff for Mr. Debrah’s reference.

He mentioned that on January 24, 2025, the Special Prosecutor sent a letter to Mr. Ofori-Atta’s residence regarding a directive to appear at the Office of the Special Prosecutor on Monday, February 10, 2025, to discuss “suspected corruption and corruption-related offences while enumerating four matters being investigated by the OSP.”

He said on January 31, 2025, Mr. Ofori-Atta also responded to the Special Prosecutor’s letter through his lawyers.

On February 5, 2025, the Special Prosecutor responded to Mr. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers declining the request to be away from the jurisdiction indefinitely on medical grounds based solely on his statement.

The SP went ahead  to  ask that Mr. Ofori-Atta return to the jurisdiction by the close of business on Monday, February 10, 2025,  failure to that  “the OSP will take all necessary legal steps to secure your return to the jurisdiction and your attendance at the OSP at our discretion.”

He said in response to the  Special Prosecutor’s letter on February 5, 2025,  Mr. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers replied the OSP that he was receiving medical attention at the Mayo Clinic in the US,  suggesting appointment  date  after  March  when  his client  may be able to   return  to Ghana.

He said despite all the correspondence between the OSP and the lawyers, on February 11, 2025, twelve men, including one police officer, four military personnel, and seven unidentified individuals in plain clothes, raided Ken Ofori-Atta’s home.

“The OSP is unreasonable and inhumane considering the ongoing communications between Ken Ofori-Atta and the OSP office concerning his health. Additionally, the treatment letter from the Mayo Clinic should demonstrate that he is indeed receiving care,” Nana B stated.

National Chocolate Day to boost local cocoa consumption – GTA

0

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has reiterated that the establishment of the National Chocolate Day is to enhance the local consumption of chocolate and cocoa products.

This initiative, originally instituted by the Ministry of Tourism in 2005, aims to promote the health and nutritional benefits of cocoa, as well as using chocolate as an expression of love during Valentine’s Day.

Jones Nelson, from the Corporate Affairs Department of the GTA, explained the motivation behind this celebration in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday February 14, 2025.

“It was instituted by the Ministry of Tourism in 2005 to increase the local consumption of chocolate, use chocolate as an expression of love during Valentine, and highlight the health and nutritional benefits of cocoa and other cocoa-based products. The idea is to use chocolate as a symbol of love and care,” Nelson stated.

Nelson further highlighted the collaboration with COCOBOD and the Cocoa Processing Company since 2001 to promote cocoa products. In 2021, the celebration was extended to a week-long event, featuring media engagement and visits to cocoa communities for activities such as “melting moments” and the chocolate experience.

“We go to schools in deprived areas and share chocolate with them. This year we’ve outlined a number of activities, and our regional offices are visiting the pediatric departments of every regional hospital to distribute some chocolate to them,” he added.

National Chocolate Day is expected to not only boost local chocolate consumption but also raise awareness about the importance of cocoa in Ghana’s economy and culture. By promoting the health benefits of cocoa and fostering a love for chocolate, the GTA hopes to create a lasting impact on the local market.

‘Give Charlotte Oduro a break’ – Mimi Andani fires back at detractors

0

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Golden Movie Awards, Mimi Andani Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Golden Movie Awards, Mimi Andani

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Golden Movie Awards, Mimi Andani, has expressed support for Counsellor Charlotte Oduro following the announcement of her divorce from Apostle Solomon Oduro.

In a video shared on social media on February 14, 2025, Mimi Andani called on social media users to stop their constant criticism, pointing out that Charlotte Oduro is not the first person to go through a divorce.

“Rev Charlotte Oduro’s issues catch my eye because, for someone who has been in a relationship for five years, got married for eight years, lived with the same man for thirteen years, and got divorced on the thirteenth year, I think I have an opinion on this. For those of you who are happy criticising her left and right because she is divorced.

“Your reason is just because you are not bold enough, and tolerating disrespect and abuse doesn’t mean your marriage is successful. What right have you got to criticise somebody? Charlotte Oduro, I have so many things to tell. You, based on your teachings… All I want to say from a sister to another is I wish you healing, protection, and I wish the Holy Spirit would comfort you and be with you,” she stated.

She added that most people are in unhealthy marriages, however, are stuck because of endurance to toxicity.

“I respect you because you are enduring, and everybody has an endurance rate, and yours might be hard. You have your reason for being there. Those of you who have successful marriages should keep thanking God because you have not seen the end of it yet.

“Also, those of you who have been married for twenty to twenty-five years don’t make your marriage a successful one. It could mean you are used to disrespect and abuse,” she added.

Mimi Andani, who officially ended her marriage in November 2023, further urged singles to avoid criticising divorcees, as they lack firsthand experience of marriage.

“For those who are not married, can you take a seat at the back where nobody can see? Take a seat and learn from the crowd. You have no reason to throw your opinions. You have not been married before, so you can’t have an opinion. You are just assuming,” she stated.

Be reminded that power is transient – Minority Caucus to government

Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei play videoMember of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has reminded the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to tread cautiously, emphasising that power is transient.

Their comment follows a recent incident involving individuals purported to be from National Security who allegedly invaded the home of former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

At a press conference led by Patricia Appiagyei, the Member of Parliament for Asokwa, she described the government’s actions as dangerous and cautioned them to tread carefully.

According to the Caucus, history will not be kind to those who turn state institutions into instruments of oppression.

They also emphasised that they will not allow tyranny to replace democracy and vowed to continue fighting for justice and fairness in the country.

“The government must be reminded that power is transient, and history will not judge kindly those who turn state institutions into instruments of oppression. The path this government is taking is a dangerous one. We will not allow tyranny to replace democracy, and we will continue to champion justice, fairness, and democratic governance,” she told the media.

The Caucus, therefore, condemned these actions and demanded that the government take full responsibility by ensuring that those involved are arrested and prosecuted without delay.

“We, in the Minority, demand that if the government claims no knowledge of such actions, then it must ensure that all those responsible are arrested and prosecuted immediately. God bless our homeland, Ghana,” the Minority Caucus said.

Donald Trump signs plan for reciprocal tariffs on U.S. trading partners

0

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday rolled out his plan to increase U.S. tariffs to match the tax rates that other countries charge on imports, possibly triggering a broader economic confrontation with allies and rivals alike as he hopes to eliminate any trade imbalances.

“I’ve decided for purposes of fairness that I will charge a reciprocal tariff,” Trump said in the Oval Office at the proclamation signing. “It’s fair to all. No other country can complain.”

Trump’s Republican administration has insisted that its new tariffs would equalize the ability of U.S. and foreign manufacturers to compete, though under current law these new taxes would likely be paid by American consumers and businesses either directly or in the form of higher prices. The rates to be charged would be studied over the weeks ahead, which could create the potential space to resolve challenges or prolong a degree of suspense and uncertainty.

The politics of tariffs could easily backfire on Trump if his agenda pushes up inflation and grinds down growth, making this a high stakes wager for a president eager to declare his authority over the U.S. economy.

The tariff increases would be customized for each country with the partial goal of starting new trade negotiations. But other nations might also feel the need to respond with their own tariff increases on American goods. As a result, Trump may need to find ways to reassure consumers and businesses to counteract any uncertainty caused by his tariffs.

The United States does have low average tariffs, but Trump’s proclamation as written would seem designed to jack up taxes on imports, rather than pursue fairness as the United States also has regulatory restrictions that limit foreign products, said Scott Lincicome, a trade expert at the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank.

“It will inevitably mean higher tariffs, and thus higher taxes for American consumers and manufacturers,” he said. Trump’s tariffs plan “reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of how the global economy works.”

Trump’s proclamation identifies value-added taxes — which are similar to sales taxes and common in the European Union — as a trade barrier to be included in any reciprocal tariff calculations. Other nations’ tariff rates, subsidies to industries, regulations and possible undervaluing of currencies would be among the factors the Trump administration would use to assess tariffs.

A senior White House official, who insisted on anonymity to preview the details on a call with reporters, said that the expected tariff revenues would separately help to balance the expected US$1.9 trillion budget deficit. The official also said the reviews needed for the tariffs could be completed within a matter of weeks or a few months.

The possible tax increases on imports and exports could be large compared to the comparatively modest tariffs that Trump imposed during his first term. Trade in goods between Europe and the United States nearly totaled $1.3 trillion last year, with the United States exporting $267 billion less than it imports, according to the Census Bureau.

The president has openly antagonized multiple U.S. trading partners over the past several weeks, levying tariff threats and inviting them to retaliate with import taxes of their own that could send the economy hurtling into a trade war.

Trump has put an additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports due to that country’s role in the production of the opioid fentanyl. He also has readied tariffs on Canada and Mexico, America’s two largest trading partners, that could take effect in March after being suspended for 30 days. On top of that, on Monday, he removed the exemptions from his 2018 steel and aluminum tariffs. And he’s mused about new tariffs on computer chips and pharmaceutical drugs.

But by Trump’s own admission, his separate tariffs for national security and other reasons would be on top of the reciprocal tariffs, meaning that the playing field would not necessarily be level.

In the case of the 25% steel and aluminum tariffs, “that’s over and above this,” Trump said. Autos, computer chips and pharmaceuticals would also be tariffed at higher rates than what his reciprocal plan charges, he said.

The EU, Canada and Mexico have countermeasures ready to inflict economic pain on the United States in response to Trump’s actions, while China has already taken retaliatory steps with its own tariffs on U.S. energy, agricultural machinery and large-engine autos as well as an antitrust investigation of Google.

The White House has argued that charging the same import taxes as other countries do would improve the fairness of trade, potentially raising revenues for the U.S. government while also enabling negotiations that could eventually improve trade.

But Trump is also making a political wager that voters can tolerate higher inflation levels. Price spikes in 2021 and 2022 severely weakened the popularity of then-President Joe Biden, with voters so frustrated by inflation eroding their buying power that they chose last year to put Trump back in the White House to address the problem. Inflation has risen since November’s election, with the government reporting on Wednesday that the consumer price index is running at an annual rate of 3%.

The Trump team has decried criticism of its tariffs even as it has acknowledged the likelihood of some financial pain. It says that the tariffs have to be weighed against the possible extension and expansion of Trump’s 2017 tax cuts as well as efforts to curb regulations and force savings through the spending freezes and staff reductions in billionaire adviser Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency initiative.

But an obstacle to this approach might be the sequencing of the various policies and the possibilities of a wider trade conflict stifling investment and hiring amid the greater inflationary pressures.

Analysts at the bank Wells Fargo said in a Thursday report that the tariffs would likely hurt growth this year, just as the possibility of extended and expanded tax cuts could help growth recover in 2026.

Trump tried to minimize the likelihood that his policies would trigger anything more than a brief bump in inflation. But when asked if he would ask agencies to analyze the possible impact on prices, the president declined.

“There’s nothing to study,” Trump said. “It’s going to go well.”

I’ll soon receive briefing on OSP cases

0

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has revealed his intention to meet with the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, to receive an update on the cases currently being investigated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Dr. Ayine, while acknowledging that the OSP is expected to function as an independent body, emphasised the need for his office to stay informed about the various cases being handled by the Special Prosecutor.

He made these remarks during a press conference held in Accra, where he addressed several legal and governance issues.

Speaking on the subject, the Attorney-General explained that although the OSP operates independently, it remains an agency within the broader framework of the Attorney-General’s department.

According to him, under Article 88(3) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, the prosecutorial authority of the state is vested in the Attorney-General.

Therefore, he believes it is appropriate for his office to have oversight of the work being carried out by the Special Prosecutor.

“I think that it is only right that because he [Kissi Agyebeng] is exercising prosecutorial authority which belongs to me, under Article 88(3) of the Constitution, I should be in the known regarding his actions. So the OSP is one of the agencies under the Attorney General’s department.

“And at the appropriate time, I will call for a briefing on everything that he has done, including the press conference that he held. I myself woke up to the press conference.
