A newly crowned queen mother of Nungua, Lawrencia Naa Borley Nelson, was shot during her installation, on Monday, February 24, 2025.
According to Accra-based Ablade TV Online, Naa Borley Nelson was appointed to be queen mother of GAMU Nungua West within the GaDangme Muslim community.
She was in line with other appointed traditional leaders awaiting their installation when she was shot.
A video of the incident shared by Ablade TV on Facebook showed the moment the queen mother was shot.
She was standing with a group of men who were supposedly the other appointed traditional leaders.
An initial gunshot was fired, which startled some of the people at the event, but there was no commotion.
Another gunshot was fired, which hit the queen mother, who could be seen falling after the impact of the shot.
The men standing with her were initially at a loss as to what was happening. After realising that she had been hit by a gunshot, they immediately began the search for the person who fired the shot.
Some of the men could be seen trying to help the queen mother.
Ablade TV indicated that the gunshot was from a musket which was fired unintentionally by a yet-to-be-identified attendee.
It added that the installation, per a flyer, was organised by the Greater Accra Council of GaDangme Muslim Chiefs, Queens, and Imams, under the auspices of the Nungua Traditional Council.

Economic policy analyst Senyo Hosi has urged the government to focus on developing Ghana’s human capital, emphasizing that “the most valuable asset any nation has is its people.”
He believes that prioritizing education, vocational training, and entrepreneurial support will ensure sustainable growth and help address pressing economic challenges.
Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints, Senyo Hosi commended the government for what he described as a constructive approach to negotiations regarding the recent 10% base salary increment for public sector workers.
“I am impressed by how the government has managed this entire process, and I commend labour for the cooperation they have shown,” he said, noting that the shift in tone and governance style has been critical in winning labour’s trust.
“There is a humility in the President’s submissions that we have not seen in a long time,” he added, attributing much of the progress in talks to an administration that appears more measured and reflective of national realities.
While acknowledging these positive developments, Senyo Hosi cautioned against a disconnect between leadership and public expectations.
“You don’t ask people to tighten their belts while you loosen yours,” he remarked, underscoring that policymakers should visibly share in the sacrifices they demand from citizens.
He emphasized that the credibility of reforms hinges on leaders demonstrating commitment and empathy in their economic decisions.
The latest agreement between the government and organized labour, signed last Thursday, raised the base pay for public sector workers by 10%, effective January 2025.
Labour Minister Dr. Rashid Pelpuo announced that, as a result of the new base pay structure, the daily minimum wage has increased to GH¢19.97.
This marks the second salary revision in less than a year, following a 23% increase in 2024 aimed at helping workers cope with the rising cost of living.
The increment is expected to provide some relief to public sector employees as the country continues to navigate ongoing economic pressures.
Beyond increasing the base pay, Senyo Hosi believes that harnessing the potential of Ghana’s workforce through better skill development will foster a culture of innovation.
He has also repeatedly called for disciplined fiscal policies to rein in government spending, reduce public debt obligations, and cultivate a stable economic environment attractive to both local and international investors.
In his view, “Ghana’s fiscal balance must be more than a line item on a budget report,” stressing the need for proactive measures to prevent debt servicing costs from hindering growth.
Highlighting the role of the private sector as a key driver of job creation, Senyo Hosi urged the Mahama-led government to reduce bureaucratic barriers that hinder entrepreneurship.
He advocates for diversifying the economy beyond traditional commodities such as cocoa and gold, arguing that technology-driven agriculture and modern supply chains can better shield Ghana from global price shocks.
Through this multi-faceted strategy strengthening human capital, fostering collaboration between government and labour, and maintaining prudent financial management Senyo Hosi believes Ghana can achieve a resilient and inclusive economic future.
English football legends, Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand, have shared differing opinions on the status of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), leading to a heated argument.
During the post-match analysis of Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Manchester City on February 23, 2025, on Sky Sports, Carragher asserted that although Mohammed Salah, an Egyptian, excels with Liverpool, the lack of a major tournament for his national team could hinder his chances of winning the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
“I think the problem is that he [Salah] is with Egypt, and he’s probably not playing in a major tournament, or maybe doesn’t have a great chance of winning. I think it’s either the Champions League or a major tournament.
“Normally, the player who excels in that, like Vini Jr. and Mbappe right now, Real Madrid looking really good going for the Champions League. Liverpool will be in that conversation, but right now, Los Blancos are certainly the front-runners,” he said.
In response, Ferdinand chided his colleague pundit for harboring an ignorant thought about AFCON.
“I think [what he said] is representative of most people out there, but I don’t think that’s right. It’s an ignorant thought process. Yes, it doesn’t get backed with resources like the Euros, but that doesn’t mean you have to devalue it. It should be respected more than it is. I understand what Jamie’s saying, but I don’t agree with it.
“That’s the majority’s fault, and it’s not right. I think federations like FIFA need to ensure they implement language around AFCON to equal the Euros and the Copa America. Jamie is right in what he’s saying; if Salah won AFCON, it would have no bearing on anyone when they vote for the Ballon d’Or, which is absolutely wrong,” he stated.
However, Carragher was displeased with the former Manchester United defender’s remarks, labeling him a “clown” for misinterpreting his earlier comment.
“I didn’t say that, you clown. Stop playing to the gallery like you always do,” Carragher wrote on Instagram in response to Ferdinand’s comment.
Meanwhile, the Liverpool legend has faced backlash for undermining the prestige of the AFCON and Salah’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or.

Mrs. Miracle Adoma, wife of popular journalist Kofi Adoma, has spoken out about her husband’s health condition, addressing speculations and misinformation surrounding his struggles. In an emotional revelation, she clarified that despite numerous public figures expressing concern, only Dr. Kwaku Oteng, the CEO of Angel Group of Companies, provided financial support during their difficult times.
According to her, Kofi Adoma has been battling serious health issues, which have placed a huge financial strain on their family. While many sympathizers and well-wishers have offered words of encouragement, she emphasized that Dr. Kwaku Oteng was the only one who stepped forward with real financial assistance. His generosity, she noted, helped them manage hospital bills and other medical expenses at a crucial time.
Mrs. Adoma also expressed disappointment at individuals who falsely claimed to have supported her husband. She revealed that while many people promised to help, only a few followed through. This, she said, has been an eye-opening experience, showing them who their true friends are.
Her statement has sparked discussions on social media, with some users praising Dr. Kwaku Oteng for his kindness and generosity. Others, however, criticized the lack of support from fellow media personalities and industry colleagues, questioning why more influential people did not step in to assist Kofi Adoma.
She further urged Ghanaians to be mindful of how they treat those in need, stressing that people should not wait for someone’s condition to worsen before offering genuine help. “We’ve learned a lot during this period. Some who claimed to care were nowhere to be found when we truly needed help,” she lamented.
As Kofi Adoma continues his recovery, many have taken to social media to send him well wishes, while others have called for more transparency in how people in the media industry support each other. For now, Mrs. Adoma remains grateful to Dr. Kwaku Oteng and those who genuinely stood by them in their time of need.
Those I Shared The Opportunities With Are Now Distancing Themselves- Ofosu Nkansah Laments
News Hub Creator12min
Former Chief Executive Officer of National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has expressed disappointment over how some individuals he once shared opportunities with when he was in office are now distancing themselves from him.
In a Facebook post, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah lamented that despite being warned against offering opportunities to certain people, he went ahead in good faith and shared the opportunities. However, those individuals have now turned their backs on him.
“When I was giving huge opportunities to some of these ingrates I was cautioned against it but I didn’t listen. But we do good for God and Country so no regrets.” He wrote.
He further criticised some particular individuals, who despite benefitting from his influence and even requesting additional support for others, has now publicly dissociated himself from the very system that helped the.
“Wonders will not end ooo. That someone who had his People as part of a system and even asked for more People to be added on will go out and lie that he wasn’t in support of it and condemn that very system. Suro nnipa” Kofi Ofosu Nkansah added.
His remarks have sparked discussions online, with some social media users sympathizing with his sentiments, while others argue that such betrayals are common in politics and leadership.
Kofi Ofosu Nkansah’s statement highlights the challenges of loyalty and trust in leadership, particularly in political and professional circles.
His sentiments follow recent dismissals of some temporary staff at the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme(NEIP) head office.
The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has announced the suspension of its planned demonstration against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over the withholding and cancellation of results for some students who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The protest, originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 25, was intended to exert pressure on WAEC to release the results of affected students, many of whom have been left in limbo regarding their admission into tertiary institutions and future academic prospects.
However, just hours before the planned demonstration, NUGS released a statement on its social media platforms announcing a suspension of the protest, citing new commitments made by WAEC.
According to the statement from NUGS, the decision to suspend the protest was reached after an emergency meeting with WAEC officials and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
During this meeting, WAEC gave firm assurances that all pending withheld results would be released by March 1, 2025.
“Following an emergency meeting with West African Examinations Council (WAEC) officials and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, NUGS – National Union of Ghana Students has suspended the planned demonstration scheduled for 25th February 2025.
“WAEC has given firm assurances that all pending withheld results will be released by the 1st of March 2025,” the statement read.
The news comes as a relief to thousands of students and parents who have been anxiously awaiting a resolution to the issue.
Many have expressed frustration over the delays, with some even alleging that WAEC has been unfair in its handling of examination malpractice cases, leading to unnecessary cancellations.
The controversy surrounding the 2024 WASSCE results began when WAEC withheld and canceled the results of several students over alleged examination malpractice.
This action affected hundreds of students across the country, sparking outrage among students, parents, and educational stakeholders.
NUGS, as the leading student advocacy body in Ghana, had initially demanded that WAEC immediately release the results or provide transparency on why certain results were withheld.
According to the union, WAEC’s decision to hold back the results had far-reaching consequences for affected students, many of whom need their results for university admissions and scholarship applications.

The Head of Accounts at the National Service Authority (NSA) has revealed how he was prevented from assuming his new position by the then Deputy Head of Accounts, who was unwilling to allow him to take over the office.
According to him, he received his appointment letter from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department while he was a staff member at the Regional Coordinating Council in the Bono Region. The letter directed him to take over as the new Head of Accounts at the NSA in April 2024.
Yaw Danso, who was invited by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) on Monday, February 24, 2025, in connection with the ghost names payroll scandal that has rocked the NSA, spoke in an interview with TV3 on Monday, February 24, 2025. He revealed that, to his surprise, he was made to wait for eight months before finally assuming office in December 2024.
“I was posted to the NSA in April 2024 as the Head of Accounts, but I only took over on December 23, 2024. When I arrived to assume office, the then Deputy Head of Accounts, who was deputizing for the outgoing head, refused to hand over to me due to his close ties with the political class.
“There were several issues that arose. I was asked to wait until he retired. So, in December, he retired and finally handed over to me on December 23, 2024. I believe he had strong connections with people in power at that time. During the waiting period, I remained as the Deputy Head of Accounts until his retirement. That was the challenge I faced. It was decided that I should use his former office while he occupied the Head of Accounts’ office. So, I stayed in his old office while he remained in the Head of Accounts’ office until he retired on December 23, and I officially took over from there.”
He added that although he reported the issue to his appointing authority, the then Executive Director of the NSA instructed him to wait until the deputy retired in December 2024.
Yaw Danso categorically stated that he had no involvement in the ghost names payroll scandal, as the illegal activity occurred before he became a staff member of the NSA.

Ghana Link Network Services Ltd, operators of the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS), has assured stakeholders in the shipping, logistics, and transport sectors that no data was lost following a temporary system interruption on October 23, 2024.
In a statement issued on Monday, the company confirmed that all attached documents and historical records from 2020 to 2024 remain intact.
“Some users may have experienced temporary access issues due to a scheduled system optimization, but all data is securely stored and remains retrievable,” Ghana Link said.
The company’s response follows concerns raised by The Transport Forum Ghana LBG regarding the impact of the system interruption on trade and customs operations.
Ghana Link explained that the event was a scheduled system upgrade rather than a failure or deliberate shutdown.
“The October 23, 2024, system event was not a failure or deliberate shutdown. Instead, it was a brief service interruption caused by a planned upgrade of storage infrastructure to improve system performance, data security, and storage efficiency,” a portion of the statement read.
This comes as digital infrastructure plays an increasingly central role in the nation’s trade sector, where system stability and data security remain critical for smooth business operations.
The upgrade, according to Ghana Link, was necessary to enhance the reliability and efficiency of ICUMS, the digital platform that facilitates customs processing and trade clearance in the country. The system was restored within a short period, allowing operations to resume as expected.
Ghana Link further reaffirmed its compliance with data protection regulations, stating that at no point was data confidentiality compromised.
“Ghana Link upholds the highest data protection and security standards, ensuring full compliance with Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). At no point has there been any breach of data confidentiality,” the ICUMS operator said.
Addressing concerns from freight forwarders and businesses, the company assured that trade records, customs entries, and attached documents remain accessible. It encouraged users experiencing retrieval issues to contact the ICUMS Support Team via phone or email.
“Any users experiencing difficulties retrieving their files are encouraged to reach out to the ICUMS Support Team,” Ghana Link stated.
The company also reiterated its commitment to maintaining a secure and efficient trade facilitation system in partnership with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Division.
“Ghana Link and the GRA Customs Division remain committed to delivering a robust, secure, and efficient trade facilitation system. We will continue to engage stakeholders and ensure seamless operations within Ghana’s trade and customs ecosystem,” the statement further read.

Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed concern over the increasing number of educated Ghanaians taking up security jobs overseas.
According to him, Ghana has numerous opportunities, particularly in land development, and he wonders why these resources are not being utilized to create job opportunities.
Speaking during a tour of Sege in Ada to explore business opportunities in a video shared on YouTube, the outspoken politician urged the community to unite and support him in bringing development to the area.
“We only need to change our mindset. When you go to Dubai, you see educated Ghanaians working as security guards. Such a beautiful place, with shopping malls everywhere, and an educated Ghanaian boy, is working as a security guard.
“How? With all the resources we have here, why can’t we develop them?” he questioned.
He also highlighted his latest project, the Volta Factory Project, which is set to begin in the Volta Region, stating that he is offering the people of the region 10% of the proceeds.

Owner of King Faisal Football Club, Alhaji Karim Grusah, has disclosed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) demanded a percentage of the $100,000 given to them during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
According to him, each member of the Black Stars management committee during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar received $100,000. However, some GFA officials asked for a 50% kickback of the money.
He indicated that when one of the officials called him, they requested the amount to be given to some individuals who did not attend the World Cup, but failed to reveal their identities.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Alhaji Grusah expressed concern about the situation, questioning some decisions made by the GFA.
“I was the one who made it public that we received $100,000 because people did not want to disclose it. After we were given the money, the GFA wanted a 50% kickback.
“They called me and said they wanted to share it with some people who did not go to the World Cup, but that was not the original arrangement. If you were born in Ghana, pray to God to give you daily bread because it is not easy,” he said.
There were public criticisms when it became known that the GFA had allocated $100,000 to Black Stars management committee members despite the team’s poor performance in the 2022 World Cup.
The Black Stars were kicked out of the group phase of the tournament after winning one of three matches played. The team lost to Portugal and Uruguay and picked their only win against South Korea in Group H.

Deputy Minister for Finance-designate, Thomas Nyarko Ampem has stressed the need for Ghana to start planning for a future without aid, following the decision by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to withhold funding.
The move by USAID has already prompted President John Mahama to direct Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to seek alternative sources of funding to bridge the estimated financial gap of $156 million.
Deputy Minister for Finance-designate, Thomas Nyarko Ampem during his vetting on Monday, February 24, 2025, observed that Ghana over the years has relied on donor support for various development initiatives, but there has been a consistent decline in aid inflows.
“This happened at a time that fortunately we are in the process of preparing the 2025 budget so I am sure the Minister will be able to make provisions to bridge the gap. This should bring us to the larger conversation about aid. We know that aid to our country has been dwindling over the years.
“DANIDA is no longer supporting programs in Ghana as they used to. United Kingdom for instance has reduced their aid budget from I think from 0.75% of GNP to 0.5%.
“This should tell us that it will get to a time when aids to our country will dwindle to zero. The only difference between DANIDA and other donor funding and that of the USAID is that the announcement of the USAID withdrawal came suddenly.
“But we have seen the trend that aid is dwindling and so it is important that we begin to plan our lives without aid and see what we can do for ourselves,” Thomas Nyarko Ampem told Parliament’s appointment committee.
They decision by the USAID to withhold funds raises concerns about the sustainability of donor-dependent projects in sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure. Over the years, Ghana has received substantial financial support from development partners, but recent global economic trends and shifting donor priorities signal a need for the country to rethink its financial strategy.
Thomas Nyarko Ampem noted that achieving economic self-reliance would require strengthening domestic revenue mobilization, expanding the tax base, and improving efficiency in public spending.
Thus policymakers will need to implement long-term solutions that ensure sustainable growth and reduce vulnerability to external funding decisions.

“You didn’t even add one inch of tarred road in 8 years in Bodi district” – Sampson Ahi fires NPP
News Hub Creator3h
Sampson Ahi, the deputy minister-designate for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, has refuted assertions that the eight-year Akufo-Addo administration constructed roads in the Bodi District, according to reports from GhanaWeb.
His remarks were in response to claims made by Patrick Boamah, the MP for Okaikwei Central, who stated that the NPP government had built roads in that area.
Ahi dismissed these assertions, stating that no tarred roads were added in the Bodi District during the eight years of the administration.
“A big false, you didn’t even add one inch of tarred road in 8 years in Bodi district,” Ahi stated.
During his vetting in Parliament on February 24, Ahi challenged his critics to provide evidence, expressing his willingness to retract his statement if presented with proof.
He welcomed any information from Boamah regarding specific roads that were paved.
“If the Hon. Member [Patrick Boamah] can show me where they tarred the road, I will be happy to retract my statement,” Ahi added.
Ghanaian fighting for the Russian army against Ukraine
A Ghanaian man in the Russian army has shared how tough it is to be fighting on the frontlines of the Russia-Ukraine war.
In a video shared online, the man, wearing camouflage trousers and boots with a black shirt, disclosed that one could easily be killed by the enemy if they lose focus, even for a moment, on the battlefield.
“The mission isn’t easy; I have killed plenty. If you don’t kill, they will kill you. One man, one magazine,” he stated.
In September 2024, one of the 14 Ghanaian men caught up in the Russia-Ukraine war gave more details about the ordeal he has been going through during his deployment by the Russian Army to the frontlines.
Speaking in an interview on TV3, the man, who was begging the government of Ghana to rescue them, said that his life was under constant threat on a daily basis.
He indicated that even though he has serious injuries in both legs and cannot walk, he is given injections and forced to go and fight.
On the battlefield, he said he always fears being shredded into pieces by a drone strike from the Ukrainian Army.
“It is quite unfortunate that I cannot go further, or else I will be crushed by a drone. Come to our aid and help us. As you can see, all the buildings here have collapsed. It is very scary. Please come and help us. We need your help.
“I’m not well; my legs are paining me, and I can’t stand on them. Please do something about it. Where I am now is extremely risky. I can’t stand on any of my legs. Please act quickly. Check on the embassy and speak to them on our behalf.”
He added, “My eyes well up with tears as I speak to you. I could not sleep last night. Please help us; otherwise, they will kill all of us,” he is heard saying in the video.
The 14 young men left Ghana for Russia through Togo on Sunday, August 4, 2024, on a journey they believed would turn their lives around and enable them to take good care of their families left behind in Ghana.
They had been lured by promises of securing well-paid jobs in Russia, but hopes of building better futures faded after they were confronted with the reality on the ground upon their arrival in Russia on August 6.
Soon after their arrival, they were transported to a city known as Kostroma to sign what they thought was an employment contract.
However, to their utter shock, it turned out to be an agreement for recruitment into the Russian Army to fight against Ukraine.
The young men had allegedly been deceived by a contractor, Abraham Boakye, popularly known in Ghana’s football circles as “One Man Supporter,” whom they trusted.

The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi, has filed a certiorari and prohibition application at the Supreme Court, seeking to overturn a February 19 contempt of court conviction against him.
Counsel for the MP, Gary Nimako Marfo, argues in the application that Justice Emmanuel Senyo Amadehe of the Koforidua High Court committed “a jurisdictional error of law apparent on the face of the record when he assumed jurisdiction in [the] Parliamentary Election Petition at Akwatia Constituency at the time when the Electoral Commission had not published the Gazette Notification of the results to which the Election relates in the Gazette.”
Justice Senyo Amadehe had convicted Ernest Yaw Kumi for contempt of court and issued a bench warrant for his arrest, citing his defiance of an interim injunction that barred him from being sworn in as a legislator.
However, the MP’s legal team contends that the High Court Judge breached the rules of natural justice, stating:
“The learned High Court Judge breached the rules of natural justice when he proceeded to hear and determine the Contempt application despite the pendency of Applicant’s Motion to set aside the said Contempt application for want of jurisdiction.”
The application further accuses Justice Amadehe of bias, arguing:
“The learned High Court Judge was biased and highly prejudiced against the Applicant when he, among others, refused to grant Counsel for the Applicant audience on the basis that Counsel had not filed ‘Appearance’ in the Contempt application.”
As part of its reliefs, the legal team is asking the Supreme Court to declare that:
“The Petition filed by the 1st Interested Party [Henry Boakye-Yiadom] on 31st December, 2024 in the absence of the Gazette Notification of the Parliamentary Election Results to which the election relates is incompetent, as same did not properly invoke the jurisdiction of the High Court, and that any Order founded on same is void and of no effect.”
Additionally, the MP is seeking:
“A declaration that the Contempt Proceedings and the Ruling dated 19th February, 2025, founded on the premature election petition filed on 31st December, 2024, is void and of no effect.”
“An Order quashing the Ruling delivered on the Contempt Application and the Execution of the Bench Warrant issued by the Court dated 19th February, 2025, by His Lordship Justice Emmanuel Senyo Amadehe.”
The Supreme Court is yet to set a date for hearing the application.

The Assistant National Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Philemon Gyapong, has clarified concerns surrounding health sector recruitment, emphasizing that financial clearance is now the backbone of employment for nurses and midwives.
Speaking on JoyNews’ on Monday, February 24, 2025, Gyapong stated, “If you don’t have financial clearance, it means you have not been budgeted for, and the government doesn’t have a provision for your salary.”
He explained that the recruitment process has evolved significantly from the past when newly employed health workers could wait up to a year before being added to the payroll.
“That is what has changed from the previous recruitment process, where you go to work, and it takes a bit of time, like six months, one year, before they are put on a payroll. At the moment, you are given financial clearance. It means you have been budgeted for,” he elaborated.
Addressing recent concerns, Gyapong confirmed that the Association is aware of financial clearance for 15,200 health professionals.
“The 15,200 which we are aware of have financial clearance. I don’t know of any outside recruitment. There is no recruitment outside of that that we are aware of,” he said.
When asked about the possibility of a strike, he clarified that the Association’s earlier comments were meant as guidance, not a threat.
“I think we cautioned the government on its directive—we were giving them advice, let me put it that way,” he said.
He expressed concern over the fate of nurses and midwives who have waited years after training but risk being laid off if bureaucratic processes aren’t completed promptly.
“If nurses and midwives, who are also the youth of this country, who have stayed on for four to five years post-training, are laid off based on the fact that maybe their financial clearance process didn’t complete before a certain period, it will be very unfair to do that,” he emphasized.
Reassuring health workers, Gyapong noted that the Ministry of Health has pledged to follow proper procedures.
“The ministry has made us aware that they are going to stick to the directives based on the emphasis they laid—those who went through due process and were given financial clearance are not supposed to go home,” he stated.
President John Dramani Mahama (L) and Iddrisu Musah Superior
A stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, Iddrisu Musah Superior, has called for the immediate removal of all the taxes President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) promised to scrap during the electioneering campaign.
In a statement on Monday, February 24, 2025, he insisted that the COVID-19 Levy, and the Betting Tax must be eliminated without delay.
“Betting Tax, COVID Levy and all the taxes Mahama and the NDC promised to scrap must go!” he stated.
Expressing his concerns, Musah Superior accused some pro-NDC groups of pretending to be financial experts while advocating for the retention of these taxes.
“We are aware that of some pro NDC, individuals and groups masquerading as finance experts, advocating that, some of the existing taxes must not be scrapped,” he noted.
He warned that any attempt to renege on the NDC’s manifesto commitments would be met with strong resistance.
“We are not some Paleolithic humans to be whipped into accepting this flapdoodle,” he declared, stressing that the public would not be deceived into accepting excuses for maintaining the taxes.
He further criticised what he described as a hesitant and indecisive approach to governance, pledging to remain vigilant.
Musah Superior also assured that he and others would closely monitor the administration’s actions, ensuring that John Dramani Mahama and the NDC fulfill their promises to Ghanaians.
“We will continue to keep watch on developments in this dithering government and hold the feet of the president to the fire,” he added.
In the run-up to the 2024 Election, John Mahama reiterated his vow to abolish both the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) and the tax on betting winnings if elected.
He criticised the E-Levy for not meeting its revenue targets and for imposing unnecessary financial strain on citizens.

Prophet Emmanuel Akwasi Boakye, also known as ‘Ogyaba’
Prophet Emmanuel Akwasi Boakye, popularly known as ‘Ogyaba,’ has recounted an incident in which a church member attempted to seduce him during a counselling session.
In a video shared on Instagram on February 24, 2025, Prophet Ogyaba, while preaching to a congregation, described how a woman came to him for prayers.
However, during the session, he discovered that she was not wearing panties.
He explained that the woman deliberately tried to tempt him by exposing herself when he laid hands on her.
“During one of my counselling sessions in Tarkwa, a lady came to me, and I realized she wasn’t wearing panties. When I asked her why, she told me that it was simply how they wore that particular dress. I had to rebuke her.
“As soon as I laid hands on her, she deliberately fell. When she fell to the ground, I looked and saw what she was exposing,” he recounted.
Prophet Ogyaba further admitted that the incident has stayed with him.
“Even now, I still have flashbacks of that day,” he added.

A young man traveling on a commercial bus in the Ashanti Region, suspected to be under the influence of drugs and extremely drowsy, was dropped from the vehicle midway through the journey by the driver’s mate and passengers.
According to the passengers, the young man took four tablets of Tramadol soon after boarding the vehicle, and in no time, he lost consciousness.
A video shared on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, shows the young man, who was neatly dressed in a yellow T-shirt and blue and white shorts, seated at the back of the bus, fast asleep with his mouth open.
As the journey progressed, the occupants of the vehicle, who sounded very worried about his condition, decided that they had had enough of him and dropped him off along the way.
When he was removed from the bus and placed on the ground, the intoxicated young man could not stand on his feet, as he had lost his sense of balance due to the suspected drug intake.
Speaking in Parliament, the then Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, disclosed that the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) was placing more restrictions on the use and distribution of Tramadol by registering it as a controlled substance.
He stated that regular use of Tramadol, even under a physician’s supervision, may cause side effects such as dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, nervousness, slow heart rate, or weak pulse.
An overdose could lead to increased blood pressure, convulsions, memory loss, seizures, hallucinations, coma, or even death.
Additionally, taking Tramadol with other unprescribed drugs can cause dependence, liver disease, renal dysfunction, or respiratory complications.
Agyeman-Manu issued this caution in response to a question on the proliferation and abusive use of analgesics, including Tramadol, in some parts of the country.

Singapore’s biggest bank says it expects to cut 4,000 roles over the next three years as artificial intelligence (AI) takes on more work currently done by humans.
“The reduction in workforce will come from natural attrition as temporary and contract roles roll off over the next few years,” a DBS spokesperson told the BBC.
Permanent staff are not expected to be affected by the cuts. The bank’s outgoing chief executive Piyush Gupta also said it expects to create around 1,000 new AI-related jobs.
It makes DBS one of the first major banks to offer details on how AI will affect its operations.
The company did not say how many jobs would be cut in Singapore or which roles would be affected.
DBS currently has between 8,000 and 9,000 temporary and contract workers. The bank employs a total of around 41,000 people.
Last year, Mr Gupta said DBS had been working on AI for over a decade.
“We today deploy over 800 AI models across 350 use cases, and expect the measured economic impact of these to exceed S$1bn ($745m; £592m) in 2025,” he added.
Mr Gupta is set to leave the firm at the end of March. Current deputy chief executive Tan Su Shan will replace him.
The ongoing proliferation of AI technology has put its benefits and risks under the spotlight, with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) saying in 2024 that it is set to affect nearly 40% of all jobs worldwide.
The IMF’s managing director Kristalina Georgieva said that “in most scenarios, AI will likely worsen overall inequality”.
The governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, told the BBC last year that AI will not be a “mass destroyer of jobs” and human workers will learn to work with new technologies.
Mr Bailey said that while there are risks with AI, “there is great potential with it”.

Mr. Vincent Opera, the Chief Executive Officer of Angel Broadcasting Network, ABN drops a sad message full of emotional after visiting Kofi Adomah for the first time after his shooting incidents occured.
Speaking in an interview on Angel TV, Mr Vincent Opera reveals that, he broke into tears after seeing Kofi Adomah when he paid a visit to him after he was shot in the eye.
Kofi Adomah Nwanwani, a Ghanaian broadcaster, was involved in a shooting incident in Dormaa. The incident occurred during a festival, and Kofi Adomah was left with blurry vision in both eyes.
He received initial treatment in Ghana and was later flown to Dubai for advanced medical care. Unfortunately, the incident left him blind in one eye, and he subsequently lost sight in the other.
Kofi Adomah’s wife, Miracle Adoma, criticized the traditional authorities in Dormaa, including the Dormaahene, for not reaching out to their family after the incident.

P.K Sarpong, a well-known commentator affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a strong response to Joyce Bawa Mogtari, a Special Aide to president John Dramani Mahama, over allegations regarding her acquisition of a state vehicle in 2017.
In a social media post, Sarpong accused Bawa Mogtari of hypocrisy, stating that while she justified her purchase of a state vehicle for GHS 14,700 on January 6, 2017, she had previously criticised others for similar transactions. He challenged her defense that the valuation of the vehicle was conducted by the State Transport Corporation (STC) based on established procedures, arguing that she had labelled others as corrupt for acquiring state assets through due process.
“You have accused so many people of acquiring state properties. You have labeled those who bought lands valued by the relevant state agencies as having committed the most egregious crimes under the sun. Those people have took to the cleaners also have proper documentation, yet you labeled them corrupt.
You referred to those lands they bought as state capture, even though they also went through due process. The same process that your car passed through which you deem to be legitimate was the same process others went through, yet you described it as state capture.
The only vice that cannot be forgiven is hypocrisy. The repentance of a hypocrite is itself hypocrisy, and this is a perfect description of you, Joyce!
You lack principles! What you dished out to President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Bawumia, Samira Bawumia, Ken Ofori-Atta would be dished out to you in tenfold” part of his statement read.
P.K Sarpong further warned Joyce Bawa Mogtari that if she attempted to take legal action over the issue, she would be met with strong resistance.
“Madam, if your only solution to gag us is to file suits against us if we come at you with attacks, then gird up your loins, for we are just warming up.
We are prepared to go to court with you. You better gather up your pity and tears and go and sit somewhere.” He concluded.

Attending an Owambe party requires dressing in a way that commands attention and exudes elegance. Choosing the perfect outfit involves selecting styles that blend cultural richness with modern sophistication. Lace fabrics, known for their intricate patterns, remain a top choice for stylish women who want to make a statement. When tailored into mermaid gowns, these fabrics create a graceful silhouette that enhances the body’s natural curves.
Adding dramatic sleeves or layered ruffles elevates the overall look, making it more fashionable. Many women opt for Aso Ebi styles that feature off-shoulder designs, which highlight the neckline and allow for bold accessories. A well-structured corset gown provides a snatched waist effect, giving a more defined shape to the wearer. Some prefer free-flowing boubou gowns, offering comfort without compromising elegance. These styles often come with embroidery or stone embellishments, adding a touch of royalty.
For a unique touch, many fashion-forward ladies experiment with mix-and-match styles, combining lace with velvet or Ankara fabrics. The right color choice plays a vital role in standing out, with bold shades like royal blue, emerald green, or wine red making a lasting impression. Monochrome designs also bring a sophisticated feel, especially when complemented with well-styled gele headpieces.
Men also take fashion seriously at Owambe events, with well-tailored Agbada or Senator suits making them appear dapper. Embroidered designs on native wears add depth, giving a rich and regal appearance. Accessories such as caps and beads complete the overall look, creating a balanced traditional outfit.
Choosing the perfect Owambe style involves blending creativity with class, ensuring that the wearer stands out in any gathering. Rocking a beautifully designed outfit not only boosts confidence but also makes a bold fashion statement that will be remembered long after the party ends.
NPP General Secretary, Hon. Justin Frimpong Koduah, reveals the truth behind Bawumia’s election loss
News Hub Creator1h
The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Honorable Justin Frimpong Koduah, has openly disclosed the reason behind the NPP’s defeat.
In a recent interview, Honorable Koduah attributed the loss to spiritual factors rather than physical ones.
He explained that spiritually, the party’s defeat was due to some pastors who were supposed to intercede for the NPP but refused because of their anger and bitterness. Speaking on a radio station, he emphasized, “I want to appeal to pastors who intercede for the NPP. A lot of spiritual forces were at play before the 2024 elections. I don’t mind what others believe, but I firmly stand by what I am saying.”
He further explained that there were spiritual events influencing the outcome, stating, “I believe we lost the elections spiritually. Some pastors who should have prayed for us, and some prayerful women who should have interceded for us, did not because of anger.”
Koduah linked his comments to the low voter turnout among the party’s supporters, noting that it was unusual for so many NPP members across sixteen regions to not cast their votes. “It’s strange that, on election day, a large number of NPP supporters chose not to vote. This just doesn’t happen,” he added.

President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the government will require $1.7 billion to complete nearly 90 unfinished hospitals under the Agenda 111 project started by the previous administration.
Speaking during a meeting with the Christian Council on Monday, February 24, 2025, the president encouraged religious bodies to collaborate with the government to complete the unfinished hospitals.
“So, there are many places where you have a mission hospital. We could have used that money to upgrade the facilities in the mission hospital. Government has gone to start a hospital but has not been able to finish it, and they are sitting there, some at foundation level, some at lintel level, and so many of them – almost 90 hospitals.
“We need $1.7 billion to be able to complete the hospitals. The one that they said they commissioned, there’s nothing in it, just one hospital. They finished the structure, but there’s not even a bed in the hospital,” he explained.
According to him, the issue had been discussed at the Cabinet level, with the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, expected to present a formal proposal on the way forward.
“We discussed it a bit in Cabinet, but the Minister of Health is going to come with a paper to see what we do. If some of the missions are interested, we could get them to finish the hospital and manage the hospital and provide the service,” he indicated.
He further explained that a combination of government funding and mission hospital partnerships could be an effective way to complete the stalled projects.
“It will be a mix. We can also raise money and finish some, but the mission hospital still can take some and complete them and run the hospital,” he noted.
The project was launched by the former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
It covers the design, procurement, construction, equipping and commissioning of 101 District Hospitals, 6 Regional Hospitals in newly created regions, as well as 1 Regional Hospital in the Western Region, 2 psychiatric hospitals in Kumasi and Tamale and a redeveloped Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
It is to ensure that Ghanaians nationwide have improved access to quality healthcare services.
The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been a staunch critic of President John Dramani Mahama for years.
From Mahama’s presidency between 2012 and 2016, through his time in opposition from 2017 until his second coming in 2024 as the 6th President of the 4th Republic, Abronye has never missed an opportunity to criticize him.
Mahama, a leader of one of Ghana’s two major political parties the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has on some occasions taken legal action against Abronye over various allegations made against him.
Some of these allegations were taken up by the state for investigation, relieving Mahama of the burden of personally pursuing legal action.
GhanaWeb profiles 3 instances where Abronye’s utterances against Mahama got him invited by the state security agencies
1.Allegations of Mahama plotting to kill NPP members
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) invited the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Abronye DC, for questioning over allegations he made against the then-former President John Dramani Mahama on May 21, 2020.
In a petition to the CID signed by his lawyer, Tony Lithur, Mahama stated that Abronye DC accused him of plotting to assassinate some members of the NPP.
According to the petition, Abronye alleged that some NPP members would be assassinated by NDC operatives on Mahama’s orders.
Mahama dismissed the claims as false and urged the CID to investigate Abronye DC.
“His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, has firmly instructed me to state that the allegations are, of course, false. For the avoidance of doubt, neither the NDC nor he has planned, hired, or instructed any person to murder or assassinate anybody,” portions of the petition read.
In response, Abronye DC criticized Mahama for lodging a complaint, arguing that the former president himself had made similar claims in the past.
“John Mahama has no moral or equitable right to lodge a complaint against me or any other person for peddling falsehoods because he is the grand lord of peddling falsehoods in this country,” excerpts of Abronye’s rebuttal stated at the time.
2.Mahama accused of plotting a coup
On February 15, 2022, the Ghana Police Service issued a press release announcing the arrest of Abronye DC following allegations that Mahama was collaborating with a terrorist group to stage a coup in Ghana.
Abronye had reported to the Accra Regional Police Command for questioning after being invited over his claims.
Preliminary investigations found his accusations untrue and deemed them likely to incite public unrest.
As a result, Abronye DC was formally arrested and charged with two counts: publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace.
He was detained and later arraigned before court on February 16, 2022.
However, on July 7, 2022, an Accra Circuit Court acquitted Abronye DC of all charges.
The court ruled that the prosecution had failed to comply with legal procedures and had demonstrated a lack of interest in pursuing the case further.
The lead prosecutor had also been reassigned to police training, preventing the case from progressing.
3.Abronye on the GH₵550 million claims
The National Investigations Bureau (NIB) has invited Abronye DC for questioning on February 26, 2025, over allegations he made against President John Dramani Mahama.
According to a letter from the NIB, Abronye claimed that Mahama was withholding GH₵550 million meant for dismissed appointees at the Jubilee House.
He made these allegations during an appearance on Accra-based Movement Television, further accusing the government of corruption in recruitment and appointment revocations.
GhanaWeb obtained a video of the interview, where Abronye alleged that Mahama had stashed the GH₵550 million in a bullion van at the Jubilee House.
“The first crime former President and now President John Dramani Mahama has committed against Ghanaians is the revocation of appointments. They have stolen a lot of money from Ghanaians through this action,” he claimed.
He further stated that the previous government, led by Nana Akufo-Addo, had allocated GH₵550 million in the 2025 budget to pay newly recruited public sector workers, including 15,000 nurses and 15,000 teachers. According to Abronye, Mahama’s administration revoked these appointments and redirected the funds elsewhere.
“The Akufo-Addo government budgeted GH₵550 million for these individuals to be employed. This money comes from taxpayers, yet another government cancels the appointments and allegedly transfers the funds to the Jubilee House. So, what are you doing with the GH₵550 million that was put in bullion vans and sent to the Jubilee House?” he questioned.
“You have revoked people’s appointments, taken their GH₵550 million, and put it in a bullion van. Meanwhile, Mahama and Okudzeto Ablakwa travel every week and have not spent more than three days in the country,” he claimed.

Dr. Proper Detti, interacting with some of the riders
A total of 100 Okada riders are undergoing a five-day intensive training programme aimed at enhancing their riding skills and knowledge of road safety measures.
The initiative comes as part of efforts to ensure safer and more efficient motorcycle transportation in Ghana ahead of the government’s plans to commercialize the sector.
Dr. Proper Detti, the Chief Financial Officer of Gold Coast Mobility Innovations Limited, popularly known as Okadamotto, spearheaded the training.
Speaking at the event on February 24, 2025, Dr. Detti emphasized the importance of equipping riders with defensive riding techniques, road sign interpretation, and accident prevention strategies.
“This is a limited liability company established to ensure safe, fast, and convenient driving and riding in Ghana, with a focus on motorcycle riders,” he stated.
“We want to ensure that they ride in a safe, convenient, and fast manner. This pilot program of 100 riders over five days has been designed to teach defensive riding, road signs, and accident prevention.”
He further noted that they are open to collaborating with the government to enhance motorcycle transportation in the country.
“If the government decides to come on board, we can collaborate to ensure a fast, safe, and convenient motor riding system,” he added.
Some of the participants expressed their appreciation for the training, acknowledging that it had significantly improved their awareness of road regulations.
Ishaak Haruna, a participant, shared his experience, “I started riding a motorcycle in Accra in 2014, but this programme has helped me understand road signs better.
“Before, I would see road signs and bypass them without knowing their meaning. Now, I realize that I was risking my own life.”
Basiru Imoro, known as Asomdweehene Manprusi in the Greater Accra Region, also highlighted the significance of the training.
“This training has been conducted so that we riders can understand road signs. There are laws and regulations guiding road usage, and it is important for our own safety,” he remarked.
The training session which spans from February 24, 2025, to February 28, 2025, is the first phase of a series of training activities lined up to enhance the capacity of Okada riders across the country.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has announced the government’s plan to officially license Okada riders as commercial transport providers.
During a recent visit to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office in Accra on February 10, 2025, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to regularizing the use of motorcycles for commercial purposes.
“You may recall that we made a campaign promise to regulate the use of motorcycles for commercial purposes. That process starts today. We are now examining the necessary regulations and legal frameworks to allow them to operate commercially,” Minister Nikpe stated.
He further assured that the initiative would ensure that Okada riders receive proper training and licensing, contributing to safer roads and reduced congestion.
“Our brothers in the Okada business will now have their own licenses, be certified, and be well-trained to transport passengers safely,” he added.

As Blake Lively’s drama with Justin Baldoni continues, people are turning their attention to an interview from 2009 where she confessed to “poisoning” her Gossip Girlco-stars against an actor.
The actor was none other than Penn Badgley, who played Dan Humphrey, her character’s love interest.
Blake told Glamour that she was “so upset” by Penn being cast as Dan that she turned her castmates against him.
“At first I was so upset that they hired him. I actually poisoned the whole cast against him,” she said.
“But then they noticed that he wasn’t a jerk and was actually a really nice, charming person.”

“Almost immediately, I realized that too, but it took me about a week to admit it.”
The teen drama show, which followed the lives of students at an elite private school in New York City, ran on CW for six seasons from 2007 to 2012.
Blake portrayed Serena van der Woodsen, a socialite and the it girl of Manhattan.
“We hang out after filming. We actually look forward to spending time together outside of work,” she told the magazine, refuting reports of a tense atmosphere on the Gossip Girl set.
Blake ended up dating Penn, her on-screen boyfriend, in real life from 2007 to 2010.

“I remember there was one point where we were just afraid of how our personal lives overlapping our work life could be perceived by our bosses,” the 37-year-old actress told Vanity Fair.
“[But then] we were like, ‘Oh no, that’s exactly what they want.’ They wanted us all to date.”
Penn now appears to be friends with Justin Baldoni, who Blake accused of sexual harassment last December.
The actors were seen together in New York in 2021 and follow each other on Instagram. Penn does not follow Blake.

Justin denied Blake’s accusations of sexual harassment. The It Ends With Us actor and director also refuted claims of orchestrating a media smear campaign against Blake in retaliation for her complaints about his purported misconduct on set.
Instead, they argue that Blake tarnished her own reputation with her interviews during the press tour for the film. At the time, many netizens complained that the Gossip Girl alum failed to address the movie’s theme of domestic violence, instead focusing on promoting her products.
Justin countersued Blake and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and is seeking $400 million in damages. He claims that he was the one to have his reputation “destroyed” by the Hollywood power couple.

“This is a case about two of the most powerful stars in the world deploying their enormous power to steal an entire film right out of the hands of its director and production studio,” the lawsuit states.
“When Plaintiffs have their day in court, the jury will recognize that even the most powerful celebrity cannot bend the truth to her will.”
The Jane the Virgin actor filed a lawsuit against The New York Times, which first reported on the alleged smear campaign against Blake and quoted messages sent from him and his publicists.

Justin’s legal team published a website they claim has all the “receipts” that would prove his side of the story.
The 41-year-old filmmaker claims Blake tried to hijack the film, including modifying an important rooftop scene where their characters meet.
A 2022 interview in which the actress discussed her need to “assert herself” and “have authorship” over her projects in order to feel “fulfilled” has recently resurfaced, leading some to side with Justin.

In December 2024, Blake accused her co-star of “invasive, unwelcome, unprofessional and sexually inappropriate behavior.”
She alleged that he walked into her trailer unannounced while she was undressed and “improvised physical intimacy” that had not been previously discussed.
Her team described Justin’s counter-suit as “another chapter in the abuser playbook.”

“This is an age-old story: A woman speaks up with concrete evidence of sexual harassment and retaliation and the abuser attempts to turn the tables on the victim. This is what experts call DARVO. Deny. Attack. Reverse Victim Offender.
“Wayfarer [Justin’s production company] has opted to use the resources of its billionaire co-founder to issue media statements, launch meritless lawsuits, and threaten litigation to overwhelm the public’s ability to understand that what they are doing is retaliation against sexual harassment allegations.”
A trial is scheduled for March 9, 2026.

The Minister of State-designate in charge of Public Sector Reforms, Ms Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has assured that she will leverage digital technology to eliminate corrupt practices towards improving the sector.
According to her, the use of technology would help ensure transparency and accountability and enhance productivity in the affairs and administration of the public sector.
Ms Akanvariba gave the assurance when she appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament in Accra yesterday.
She indicated that by strengthening the sector through training and capacity building, issues could be easily addressed through improved digital platforms.
Ms Akanvariba said even though digitialisation and e-governance were not enough, when incorporated it would help transform the sector into an efficient and effective entity.
The nominee opined that the public sector could not develop without the private sector, hence the need to engage and collaborate with the private sector for the development of the country.
Ms Akanvariba noted that the sector was facing a lot of challenges, citing corruption, bureaucracy, and limited resources hindering progress.
She cited the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) as one of the institutions having limited resources.
To address this, Ms Akanvariba said when given the nod, she will work collectively with the Ministry of Communications, agencies, and other private service providers to strengthen and build on already existing development of her predecessors.
She cited the use of technology and innovation, capacity building and engaging the services of relevant stakeholders as some of the measures she would employ to curb these challenges.
She said there was the need for a national dialogue to enable successors of the sector to know and learn more about the progress of the predecessors in a bid to review the recruitment process within the public sector.
Ms Akanvariba also emphasised the importance of efficiency, and transparency in the sector, to ensure better governance and service delivery.
Answering questions on the operations of the School Feeding and Free Senior High School food supply programme, the nominee indicated that a digital platform would be developed to track number of children that would be fed daily as well as the quantity of food supplied.
Ms Akanvariba reaffirmed her commitment to driving reforms that will modernise the public sector, and enhance its role in national development.

Apple plans to invest more than $500bn (£396bn) in the US over the next four years, starting with a new advanced manufacturing factory in Texas.
The tech giant said it expected to create 20,000 new jobs over that time, with the “vast majority” of roles in research and development, software and artificial intelligence (AI).
It is not clear to what extent the spending is an acceleration of the company’s current activities. Apple said the sum included everything from spending on suppliers to Apple TV+ productions.
The announcement comes days after Apple boss Tim Cook met with President Donald Trump, who has made increased corporate investment in the US a priority.
In its announcement, Apple said its investment was its “largest-ever spend commitment” and would expand its support for American manufacturing.
“We are bullish on the future of American innovation,” Cook said.
The new 250,000-square-foot factory in Houston, Texas, is set to produce servers that were “previously manufactured outside the US” to support Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI system, the company said.
The iPhone maker added it would open in 2026 and create “thousands” of jobs.
Apple is also expanding its data centre capacity in North Carolina, Iowa, Oregon, Arizona, and Nevada, and doubling its support for a fund dedicated to US manufacturing, which it created in Trump’s first term, from $5bn to $10bn.
Trump previewed the announcement last week, claiming it was partially a response to his trade policies, including tariffs.
On Monday, the president took credit for the news on social media, saying the reason for the investment was “faith in what we are doing, without which, they wouldn’t be investing ten cents”.
Trump has said he wants to see more companies making their products in the US, threatening to raise tariffs drastically in a bid to make domestic manufacturing more attractive.
Last month, he imposed a new 10% border tax on all imports from China, where Apple has a significant manufacturing presence.
He has also proposed tariffs on products made in many other countries, including neighbouring nations Mexico and Canada.
Dan Ives, analyst at Wedbush Securities, said the announcement was a “strategic move” to diversify the company’s manufacturing operations “while also playing well into Trump’s US investment theme”.
“Cook continues to prove that he is 10% politician and 90% CEO,” he wrote in a note.
Apple in 2021 said it was investing $430bn in the US and would add 20,000 new jobs across the country over five years.
Ives said the initiatives announced by Apple on Monday did not seem to signal a big shift in the company’s manufacturing plans for China, noting that the areas in question were not a focus of its activities there.

Former Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi, has blamed the appointment of Eugene Arhin, former Communications Director at the Jubilee House, as a major reason behind the party’s weakening relationship with the media ahead of the 2024 general elections.
According to Adomako Baafi, the party’s downfall can also be attributed to Eugene Arhin, whom he claims mismanaged communication during the presidency of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.
Speaking in an interview on Movement TV, he cautioned the party to learn from its mistakes and take corrective measures in future endeavours.
“One of the biggest problems the NPP faced was the appointment of Eugene Arhin as the spokesperson for the government at the Jubilee House. I am telling you.
“Nana could travel, and nobody would have any idea. The party lost touch with the media because of him. For certain reasons, I don’t like Felix Kwakye, but he is better than Eugene Arhin.
“And after our loss, I haven’t heard of him coming to defend us again. We had capable people who could have done the job, but just look at what happened,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to the flagbearer of the NPP in the 2024 general elections, the party’s defeat can be traced to low turnout and other factors, including key media houses not aligning with the party.
He asserted that over 2.1 million supporters of the party refused to vote.
Speaking to party communicators during a courtesy call on him on December 18, 2024, he assured them that the challenge has been identified and the leadership aims to address the issue in the forthcoming elections.
“It was a big disappointment; there was no doubt about it when the results came because all the work we had done pointed to the fact that we were winning this election. I mean, there was clear evidence on the ground as to all the 270 constituencies.
“It was clear that we were going to do well, but on the day of the election, something was amiss. The turnout was so low. Everybody was wondering what was happening, why, and where are our people. And that was from Axim all the way to Zebilla, and everybody was wondering, where are our people? What was going on?” he questioned.
Bawumia, who doubles as the Vice President of the country, continued, “It turned out that everybody decided to stay, that they wouldn’t vote. And it was almost as if they had a meeting and decided on the message. The same message, no matter which constituency you went to, they would tell you they are not voting.
“So, at least you know where the problem is. And to solve the problem, you have to know what it is, so our people didn’t vote. That was the problem.”
He added, “The question now is why they didn’t vote, and that is a research question we are going to answer now. I must say we worked very hard, and I am very proud of the communication team. We were working against their ownership of, or support from, key media houses. Isn’t it so? Put that as a disadvantage in many ways in terms of communication. We had a lot of these key media houses who were not on our side.”
The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, on Monday, December 9, declared John Mahama the winner in the 2024 presidential elections with a total of 6,328,397 votes.
Dr. Bawumia received 4,657,304 votes.
Mahama’s party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), achieved historic success by gaining a huge majority in Parliament.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled Nana Kusi Baaye II, the chief of Ohwim in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, following multiple allegations of misconduct and violations of traditional laws.
The chief, who ruled for 16 years, was removed from his position after being found guilty of several offenses, including the desecration of the Great Oath, extortion, illegal sale of lands, and illegal mining.
His actions were exposed during a Kumasi Traditional Council meeting on Monday, February 24, 2025.
During the proceedings, the Ohwimhene was accused of falsely testifying in a chieftaincy dispute.
According to the issues, despite being aware of the rightful owners of the stool land, he allegedly demanded ¢6,000 to testify in favour of the owners but later took money from the opposing party and testified on their behalf.
His dishonesty was uncovered by the Asantehene, proving that he had violated his oath of office and the sacred witness vow associated with the Great Oath.
Further allegations were made by his sister, Akosua Nyame, who recounted how Nana Kusi Baaye II dismissed the authority of the Great Oath after she invoked it three times to prevent him from illegally selling cemetery lands meant for royals and chiefs.
She stated that he contemptuously remarked, “If the Great Oath has legs, let it come and arrest me.”
A former Biemso Dikro also testified that the destooled chief unlawfully seized land under the pretense that it had been taken by the Asantehene for a solar project. It was later discovered that he was engaging in illegal mining on the land, which has since been destroyed.
Additionally, allegations were made against him for obstructing the burial of Asikasuhene, who passed away five years ago. It was revealed that Ohwimhene burned the belongings of Asikasuhene, leading to his prolonged stay in the mortuary. He also allegedly caused the wrongful arrest of several community leaders, six of whom have since died.
Following these revelations, the Asantehene ordered the necessary traditional rites to be performed to formalize the chief’s removal.
Sending a strong message, the Asantehene warned that any chief who takes the Great Oath and violates it will face similar consequences.
“This is not only about him but to you all, anybody that takes the great oath and goes against it will equally face consequences…from today you are no longer chief for Owhin,” Otumfuo said.
