The new Naa Gamu of the Ga-Muslim community in Nungua West has been reportedly shot dead by an unknown individual.
According to reports, the Nungua Gamu Queen was shot during the enskinment ceremony of the new Naa Gamu of the Ga-Muslim community in Nungua West.
The information gathered indicates, that she was rushed to the hospital after the incident but she sadly passed away.
The 2025 Hajj Taskforce has announced that March 13, 2025, will be the final deadline for payment of the Hajj package.
This announcement was made on February 26, 2025, at the Hajj Village, Kotoka International Airport.
The Taskforce emphasised that no extension will be granted beyond this deadline and urged both prospective pilgrims and agents to adhere strictly to the timeline for the benefit of all parties involved.
This decision aligns with directives from the Ministry of Hajj and Umra Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which aim to ensure a smooth and well-coordinated pilgrimage process for this year.
The Taskforce has called on all prospective pilgrims and accredited Hajj agents to expedite payments and complete all preparatory procedures within the stipulated timeline.
In a bid to facilitate a seamless Hajj experience, the Taskforce has implemented measures to assist fully paid pilgrims in acquiring their passports with ease. Accredited Hajj agents are encouraged to take advantage of this initiative to streamline the process for their clients.
Additionally, the Taskforce has recently reduced the 2025 Hajj package fee from GHS75,000 to GHS 62,000, providing much-needed financial relief to potential pilgrims. This move is expected to make the pilgrimage more affordable and accessible to a broader segment of the Ghanaian population.

Dr. Mark-Oliver Kevor has been appointed as the Acting Director-General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor is an IT expert and a Lecturer.

Lucas Perez was a striker for Arsenal
Former Arsenal striker Lucas Perez has opened up about a traumatic experience from his past that has followed him into adulthood, revealing how it still haunts his life.
In an interview shared by The Sun, the striker disclosed how his parents abandoned him at the age of two at an orphanage, and as such, he had to be raised by his grandparents.
“I was raised by my grandparents, my father’s parents. When I was two, my parents left me in an orphanage because they couldn’t or didn’t want to take care of me,” he said.
Despite not taking care of him, Perez revealed how his father and mother have continuously pestered him for money since his days at Arsenal.
“This season, I received a complaint from my father demanding that I pay maintenance for the rest of his life.
“From then on, I spent several months until I left Deportivo with a lot of stress and a lot of anxiety because I had to relive very difficult moments in my life. When I signed for Arsenal, my mother also sent me a burofax demanding money… but she can’t claim it because she’s not listed in the joint custody,” he further added.
Perez further shared how the continuous demands from his father have become a factor in his exit from Deportivo La Coruna.
“I left Deportivo now because the issue with my father continues. I met him several times this Christmas and it’s not a pleasant experience,” he added.
After playing 19 games for Deportivo in the 2024/25 season, the former Arsenal striker joined PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer in January but has yet to start a game for his new club.

The Minority members of the Appointments Committee have rejected the nomination of Justice Srem-Sai as Deputy Minister for Justice and Attorney-General.
Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, announced the decision during the nominee’s vetting on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
The vetting, which had been progressing smoothly, took an unexpected turn when a disagreement erupted between Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor and Ranking Member Afenyo-Markin, bringing the proceedings to an abrupt end.
The disagreement began when Afenyo-Markin asked the nominee to display a cultural dance from his heritage (Likpe).
The Chairman overruled the request, prompting Afenyo-Markin to describe the action as “whimsical and capricious.”
In response, Afenyo-Markin stated, “I wish to announce a decision we have taken as the Minority Caucus of the Appointments Committee. We have taken note of the abrupt end of the vetting of the nominee for Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney-General. We reject the nomination of the Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney-General. Any decision to approve the nominee shall be the sole responsibility of the Majority.”
Girl child education has seen significant improvement in the Oforikrom municipality of the Ashanti Region as each government school in the area now has a girl child coordinator.
Despite notable achievements in advancing girl child education in Ghana, girls continue to face challenges in accessing counseling within various districts.
The government schools, which in the past had one coordinator for three schools, had difficulties in focusing on the specific needs of girls.
But steps have been made to improve the situation under a new initiative.
Dorothy Oye Debrah, the Girl Child Education Officer at the Oforikrom Education Directorate, organized a workshop for new coordinators, themed: “Empowering Voices, Changing Lives: Strengthening Support for the Girl Child in Schools.”
“You will realize our children, both boys and girls need a lot of counseling and interactions with adults. When I took office, I realized that most schools had 3 schedules for one person, which was too many students for one person. So I insisted that I need someone to be assigned to just one school. And when there is one in every school, they can be able to assist effectively,” she said.
“There are some of them who come from homes where they have no one to talk to even when they’re going through an emotional crisis. They need constant guidance, mentorship and education. It is more effective when a particular person is in charge of a particular school so they can pay more attention to our girls,” she added
The Municipal Director of Education, Dorothy Opare-Baidu, emphasized the importance of continually improving girl child education, describing the roles as ‘critical in this journey.’
“At the heart of our vision lies the vision of the Girls’ Education Unit, where every Ghanaian child regardless of gender, attends safe and welcoming schools. You are frontline advocates, you provide guidance, mentorship, and support, ensuring that girls remain in school, feel safe, and receive the quality education they deserve. This is why your role as Girl Child Coordinators is critical in this journey,” she said.
Attendees included Girls’ Education Officers, Guidance and Counseling officials, Police Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit, and teachers from both basic and secondary institutions across the city.
They emphasized the significance of nurturing the voices of girls and ensuring that they have the resources and support necessary to thrive academically, emotionally and socially.
Girl Child Education Officer for Asokore Mampong, Eunice Korantema, said “coming here I have realized that most of the issues cut across all municipalities. I’m also leaving with the bits and pieces I have picked here to help my own municipality.”
“We are dealing with girls in our schools and we have to get strategies and so many things to cater for them when they are in need. I believe I was appointed for this role because of certain qualities I possess and through this initiative, we’ll be able to train and shape the girls in a good way,” another coordinator said.

The vetting of Deputy Attorney General and Justice Minister-designate, Justice Srem-Sai, took an unexpected turn following a heated exchange between the Chairman of the Appointments Committee and Ranking Member, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Tensions flared after Afenyo-Markin requested the nominee to demonstrate a particular dance, stating, “We are here to learn about our country. It is also about our culture.”
However, the Chairman found the request inappropriate for the setting and overruled the question, leading to a sharp disagreement.
Displeased with the ruling, Afenyo-Markin accused the Chairman of being “whimsical and capricious” in his handling of proceedings.
The Chairman then demanded that Afenyo-Markin withdraw his remarks, but he stood his ground, responding, “Chairman, I won’t withdraw. You rudely overruled me.”
As the standoff intensified, Chairman Bernard Ahiafor firmly asserted his authority, declaring, “To demonstrate to you that I am the chairman of this particular vetting committee, that may be your last question.”

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin led his people out of the vetting room
The Minority Caucus has announced its decision to reject the nomination of Dr. Justice Srem-Sai as Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice-designate following a contentious vetting session that ended abruptly due to a heated exchange between Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, and Ranking Member, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin.
During the vetting on Wednesday, February 26,2025, tensions escalated when the Ranking Member of the Appointments Committee and Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin requested the nominee to demonstrate a traditional dance, emphasising the importance of cultural understanding.
Bernard Ahiafor deemed the request inappropriate and overruled it, leading to a sharp disagreement.
Subsequently Afenyo-Markin accused Ahiafor of being whimsical and capricious, while Bernard Ahiafor demanded a retraction, asserting his authority over the proceedings.
Afenyo-Markin firmly stated that the Minority has rejected the nomination of Dr. Srem-Sai as Deputy Attorney General following the heated dispute.
“We are protesting your conduct in abruptly ending the nominee’s vetting on the grounds that I refused to withdraw my dissatisfaction with your ruling. I described your actions as whimsical and capricious, and I also noted that you rudely made those expressions.
“We do not think that, in the spirit of cooperation, you should put up such a posture,” he noted.
Afenyo-Markin further accused Bernard Ahiafor of bias in handling proceedings, citing an earlier incident involving Member of Parliament of Weija/Gbawe, Ahmed Jerry Shaib, whom they claim was also unfairly interrupted.
“The Attorney General himself interrupted, yet you curiously claimed you never heard him. Then the Majority Chief Whip also disrupted the session, though not into the microphone. This was clearly meant to obstruct the process. Eventually, you allowed him to ask a so-called follow-up question,” he added.
He noted that despite smooth vetting sessions since Monday, February 24, 2025, they have also rejected the nominations of Alhassan Suhuyini, Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways-designate who had been vetted already, Sulemana Yussif, Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources-designate, and Yussif Issaka Jajah, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts-designate.
The Minority eventually staged a walkout from the vetting.

Kwesi Nyantakyi and Kurt Okraku
Owner of King Faisal Football Club, Alhaji Karim Grusah, has stated that Kwesi Nyantakyi performed better than Kurt Okraku as President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
He justified that Nyantakyi was someone who paid attention to criticisms and took the positives out of them to improve the fortunes of his administration.
However, Kurt Okraku does not have such a trait because he does not listen to advice from people when things are going wrong, which complicates things for his administration.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Alhaji Grusah accused the current GFA boss of being a dishonest person, adding that his advice has gone unheeded.
“Nyantakyi was sincere in doing good things, but Kurt is not like that. He called me in the new year, and because I have eye problems, I asked who called, and someone said, ‘It’s your son Kurt.’ He does not want the truth, and due to that, you can’t even help,” he said in Twi when quizzed on the performance of both presidents.
Okraku has faced criticisms from some football personalities, players, and journalists over the abysmal performances of the various national teams.
The Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), the tragic demise of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Yaw Frimpong also known as Pooley and other issues infuriated most Ghanaians, who expressed their fury towards the GFA.

The Wadi Seidna air base is an important hub for the military near Khartoum
At least 46 people have been killed and 10 others injured after a Sudanese military plane crashed in a residential neighbourhood in Omdurman, the twin city of the capital Khartoum, state media says.
The Russian-built Antonov aircraft came down after take-off from the military’s Wadi Seidna air base on Tuesday evening.
The cause of the crash, which killed military officers and civilians, is unclear – but military sources have been quoted as saying that it was likely to have been a technical malfunction.
The crash came a day after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) – which is at war with the army – said it had downed a fighter jet in South Darfur.
The conflict has devastated large parts of Sudan – including Khartoum and Omdurman – with thousands of people killed and about 12 million displaced.
The health ministry said that emergency teams rushed injured civilians, including children, to a nearby hospital following Tuesday’s plane crash.
A senior army commander in Khartoum was among those killed, Reuters news agency quoted unnamed military sources as saying.
Witnesses said there was a loud explosion and several homes were damaged when the plane came down, the AFP news agency reports.
The crash also caused power outages in nearby neighbourhoods, it added.
Sudan has been in a civil war that began in April 2023 after the army and the RSF became involved in a vicious power struggle.
The war has split the country, with the army controlling the north and the east while the RSF holds most of the Darfur region in the west and parts of the south.
In recent weeks, the army has retaken parts of Khartoum and surrounding areas from the RSF.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has clarified that it is not the commission’s policy for its members, including the chairperson and deputies, to attend swearing-in ceremonies unless they receive an official invitation.
Speaking at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Wednesday, February 26, to review the 2024 general elections, Jean Mensa revealed that the commission did not receive an invitation to attend the swearing-in of President John Dramani Mahama or any ministerial inaugurations.
Her remarks come in response to questions about her absence at President Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony.
Mahama was officially sworn in on January 7, 2025, at Black Star Square in Accra, marking the start of his second term after securing victory in the 2024 general elections. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, political leaders, and citizens who gathered to witness the event.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo administered the oath of office, reaffirming Mahama’s commitment to serving Ghana and upholding the Constitution.
Addressing the matter, Jean Mensa stated: “I was here in the country, but per policy, the commission members, chairperson, and deputies don’t attend swearing-ins. Indeed, it is also by invitation, and we have never received an invitation to the swearing-in.
“I know that dignitaries and special guests are invited. But it has always been a matter of policy that we do not attend swearing-in ceremonies. At least for the duration that we have been in office, we have never attended any swearing-in ceremony,” she explained.

Accra, Feb. 26. GNA- SEND Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) focused on advocacy for pro-poor policies, has urged the government to make national budgetary allocations to Epidermic Preparedness and Response (EPR).
The organisation said while outbreaks could not be prevented, they can be effectively managed if the nation was well prepared.
Speaking at a National Dialogue on Public Health Emergency Financing in Ghana, Madam Harriet Nuamah Agyemang, Country Director, SEND Ghana, said preparing for epidemics required investment in health worker training, surveillance and infrastructure with a focus on mobilising domestic resources rather than relying on global funds.
“This year, we are looking forward to a budget that includes funding for Public Health Emergencies in Ghana, we anticipate that the government will prioritise this to safeguard the health of the people,” she said.
Madam Agyemang cited the lack of a dedicated fund for preparedness and specific budget line for epidemic preparedness and response as issues which needed the urgent attention of the government.
“Epidermic preparedness is important, and we need funding to do that, we must not depend on global funding anymore, we need to look inward, mobilise funds from our domestic resources and set it aside for epidemics,” she stressed.
Madam Agyemang encouraged Local Government Authorities to also set aside funds for Public Health Emergencies at the District and Municipal level.
She commended the Adaklu and Aligye Kwabre districts for including Epidermic Preparedness Response in their 2023 to 2024 budgets for the first time and recognised several assemblies like the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), Keta North, Birim South for consistently increasing funding for emergency preparedness and response.
Madam Agyemang mentioned that four districts; Lower Manya Krobo, Birim South, Lambussie and Gushegu, were at various stages of setting up district public health emergency fund.
Mr Rex Manu Yeboah, Deputy Director, General Administration at the Ministry of Local Government encouraged Local Government Authorities to find innovative ways to finance Epidermic Preparedness and Response, stating that it was more cost effective to prevent an epidemic than to respond when it had escalated.
The Dialogue served as a platform to assess progress made in Send Ghana’s efforts in advocating the provision of a Domestic Fund for Public Health Emergencies in Ghana highlighting it as a vital step to ensuring that Ghana is well equipped to manage future health crises.

The selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, as the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had a detrimental effect on the New Patriotic Party’s fortunes in the 2024 general elections.
This is the conclusion of a study conducted by the Department of History and Political Science Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The key findings;
The study revealed that 85.45% of respondents are aware of Dr. Prempeh’s candidacy.
However, opinions on his influence are divided, with 47.29% believing he negatively impacts the campaign and 32.24% viewing him positively. Satisfaction with Dr. Prempeh’s performance is largely negative, with 36.31% very unsatisfied.
In contrast, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is preferred by 53.14% of respondents as the ideal running mate and is seen as having the most positive impact by 58.56%.
The research on the prospects of the 2024 election, conducted by the Department of History and Political Science at the KNUST, was based on public perception and preference of the NPP’s Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
Lead researcher, Professor Samuel Adu-Gyamfi, sheds light on the findings.
“The data reveals mixed perception and a notable 47.29% of respondents, who believes that Dr. Prempeh negatively impacted the campaign,” he said.
Prof. Adu Gyamfi made some recommendations for Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s candidacy going forward.
“The running mate in any political party should potentially, if not galvanize support, serve as an icing on the cake of the campaign” he warned.
Dr. Amakye Boateng, a Political Scientist at the KNUST, also cited public dissatisfaction towards the NPP’s running mate.
The conclusion of the findings indicates that while Dr. Prempeh is widely recognised, his candidacy faces significant challenges due to dissatisfaction and mixed perceptions of his impact.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is perceived as a more favourable choice, suggesting that his proven track record and public appeal could offer strategic advantages for the NPP.
To enhance campaign effectiveness, addressing public dissatisfaction and aligning candidate selection with voter expectations will be crucial for the NPP’s success going forward.

He emphasized the need for responsible hiring decisions, insisting such measures are necessary to prevent the collapse of institutions already burdened by an unsustainable wage bill.
His remarks follow a directive from Chief of Staff Julius Debrah on February 11, 2025, ordering the revocation of public service appointments and recruitments made after December 7.
Minister of State for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, justified government’s decision and accused the previous Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration of bypassing due process in making last-minute public service appointments.
Speaking on the sidelines of a symposium organized by the Africa Center for Governance and Economic Management (ACGEM) on February 26, 2025, in Accra, Tanoh explained that the measure is necessary to prevent institutions from collapsing, as no budgetary provisions were made for these recruitments.
“As a responsible government that wants to see change, it is important to balance costs with revenues. We cannot hire people reck and leave institutions to suffer. Some of these actions are necessary to save those institutions from collapsing because the wage bill is high. Unfortunately, nobody wants to see a fellow Ghanaian out of work but the reality is that many of these appointments were made without considering the employment budget, hiring plan, or HR budget,” he stated.

The suspect, Samuel Adjei has been remanded
A District Court has remanded Samuel Adjei into police custody in connection with a fatal shooting incident during a recent enstoolment ceremony at Nungua in the Greater Accra Region.
According to a statement released by the police on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly fired live ammunition from a single-barrel gun during the enstoolment ceremony, hitting the deceased, Naa Borley Ahmed, in the right thigh.
“Preliminary investigations have indicated that during the enstoolment ceremony, the suspect allegedly discharged live ammunition from a single-barrel gun, striking the deceased, Naa Borley Ahmed, in the right thigh. She was rushed to the Hospital for medical attention but died while receiving treatment.

Medeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko has shed light on the passing of former Asante Kotoko coach Michael Osei, revealing that he succumbed to heart complications.
Tanko made the revelation during a roundtable discussion with former Black Stars players on the Inside PFAG YouTube channel.
He confirmed that Michael Osei had a history of heart problems and had undergone surgery, though he was uncertain about the exact location of the procedure.
“I think his passing was related to his heart. Yes, he had surgery. I believe it was in London,” Tanko stated.
“I spoke with him while he was in Germany. He went to London before arriving in Germany, so I’m not sure whether he had the operation in England or Germany.”
Tanko’s statement aligns with earlier remarks from Tony Oduro, the secretary of Asante Kotoko Legends, who also cited heart issues as the cause of Osei’s death.
In an interview with GhanaWeb, Oduro disclosed that the former Bibiani Gold Stars coach had been fitted with a heart enhancer due to his condition.
“He collapsed. Michael had heart issues and had a heart enhancer, but I can’t confirm if that was the cause,” Oduro said. “I spoke with him last Thursday, and he mentioned receiving offers from Ghanaian clubs but was waiting on Klopp. They were teammates, and he said Klopp was willing to help him secure a coaching role.”

A prominent figure of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Iddrisu Musah Superior, has emphasised the importance of electing good leaders with the necessary qualities to make the party attractive and attractive for election in the 2028 general elections.

He stated that in its effort to rebuild and restore the party to its former glory, it is essential to cleanse the NPP and make it appealing to the grassroots, ensuring they believe in its vision before presenting themselves and seeking the attention of the voting public.
Musah Superior also called for committed and dedicated effort from all members, urging them to demonstrate sacrificial willingness to work in the best interest of the party.
“As we rebuild and re-energise our ‘fallen’ party to make it electable in 2028, we must solemnly declare our unflinching determination to make our party attractive again; first to our grassroots and then to the larger voting population,” he added.
The NPP stalwart’s comments follows the party’s poor performance during the 2024 general elections, which led to it losing many of its parliamentary seats.

Weta (V/R), Feb. 26, GNA – A team of engineers and officials from the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) has visited the Weta Irrigation Scheme to assess the critical challenges affecting rice farmers in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region.
The inspection tour was aimed at identifying immediate and long-term solutions to restore the scheme’s efficiency and safeguard the livelihoods of over 1,200 farming families.
Speaking with GNA, after the visit, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Mr. Eric Edem Agbana, assured farmers that urgent measures would be taken in the coming weeks to provide short-term relief before the start of the new farming season.
“Our priority is to restore the scheme as quickly as possible so that farmers can reclaim their lands and prepare for the next planting season. This is crucial in preventing further losses and ensuring food security in the region,” Mr. Agbana said.
He added that long-term rehabilitation efforts would also be implemented in the next few months to make the irrigation scheme sustainable for farmers.
The Weta Irrigation Scheme, one of the largest in the country, has fallen into a state of disrepair, threatening over 1,000 hectares of arable land, and affecting the incomes of thousands of people.
The breakdown of infrastructure, including irrigation canals and water pumps, has reduced the scheme’s efficiency, leaving farmers struggling to cultivate their fields.
The economic impact has been severe, with over 10,000 indirect dependents across 23 surrounding communities facing difficulties due to declining agricultural productivity.
Mr Agbana reassured farmers that he remains committed to fully resolving the crisis and ensuring that they can return to productive farming.
“To the over 1,200 families affected by this crisis, I want you to know that I will not rest until this issue is fully resolved. Our farmers are the backbone of our community, and their success is our collective success,” he said.
He also promised transparency and open governance, pledging to keep the public informed of every step taken to rehabilitate the irrigation system.
“As I promised during the election campaign, I will ensure transparent and open governance, keeping you informed every step of the way. We are in this together, my dear farmers,” he assured.
The visit by GIDA engineers marks a significant step in addressing the long-standing issues affecting the Weta Irrigation Scheme.
Farmers remain hopeful that the government’s intervention will restore the scheme’s functionality and boost rice production in the region.
Meanwhile, stakeholders, including local authorities and agricultural experts, are expected to collaborate to ensure a lasting solution to the challenges facing the irrigation project.

The Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has urged the Ministry of Communications and the National Communications Authority (NCA) to consider a more consultative approach to regulatory enforcement on the six radio stations that have been shut down.
According to the LPG, instead of immediate shutdowns, the two authorities should have engaged the affected media houses, provided clear and considerable timelines for compliance, and explored flexible payment arrangements to ensure struggling businesses meet their obligations without being forced to close.
The General Secretary of LPG, Jerry Owusu, in a press statement dated February 19, 2025, stated that the media serves as a vital pillar of the country’s democracy, providing a voice for the people, facilitating national discourse and creating employment opportunities.
It would be recalled that the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam George, on February 18, directed the Acting Director General of the NCA to take immediate enforcement action against several entities for operating without valid frequency authorisations in violation of Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775).
The entities affected include Fire Group of Companies, Sunyani-90.1 MHz; I-Zar Consult Limited, Tamale- 89.7MHz; Abochannel Media Group, Adidome-105.7MHz; Okyeamen Radio Limited, Bibiani- 99.7MHz; Mumin Bono Foundation, Techiman-99.7MHz and Osikani Community FM – Nkrankwanta-99.7MHz.
The Communications Ministry, in a statement on Tuesday, February 18, noted that the six radio stations failed to renew their authorisations, fulfil statutory payment obligations, or submit the required documentation within the stipulated timeframe.
But, while acknowledging the importance of regulatory compliance, the LPG strongly believe that a more constructive approach could have been taken to prevent job losses, especially in these difficult economic times.
“The abrupt shutdown of these stations without thorough engagement and alternative solutions has put the hardworking journalists and media workers at risk of unemployment. This decision will not only affect those directly employed by the affected stations but also their families and dependents, worsening the economic hardship many Ghanaians are already facing,” the LPG General Secretary asserted.
He extended his sympathy to the affected media houses and their employees, who now face uncertainty due to this decision, encouraging them to engage with the NCA, take the necessary steps toward compliance, and explore all possible measures to have their licenses reinstated.
The LPG, he noted, remains committed to advocating for a regulatory environment that supports businesses while ensuring adherence to the law.

The Deputy Attorney General and Minister Designate for Justice, Justice Srem-Sai, has indicated that the scrapping of ex-gratia, as promised by President John Dramani Mahama, could be achieved through various approaches, with some taking less time than others.
In June 2024, then-flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, reaffirmed his commitment to abolishing ex-gratia payments to public officials if elected. He also pledged to address disparities in the remuneration of Article 71 officeholders compared to the broader public service.
“Abolish the payment of ex-gratia and cut out waste and ostentation in government. Address the disparities in the remuneration of Article 71 officeholders and the broader public service,” Mahama declared while launching the NDC’s manifesto in Winneba, Central Region, on August 24, 2024.
During his vetting before the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Justice Srem-Sai explained that while amending Article 71 of the 1992 Constitution is one way to eliminate ex-gratia, it is a lengthy and complex process.
However, an alternative approach involving regular legislation could provide a faster solution.
“There are a couple of ways by which the ex-gratia matter can be dealt with. One could be through a constitutional amendment. If you read Article 71 critically, the Constitution itself doesn’t prescribe a formula for determining the remuneration and entitlements of the specified class of persons. It only states that a committee will determine that.
“Last year, the committee sought to expand the list of beneficiaries, but the Supreme Court halted it. What I see is that it is the committee’s recommendation that is the problem. That can be resolved by passing an act of parliament to prescribe the formula,” he stated.
He further suggested that instead of abolishing ex-gratia through a constitutional amendment, which could be time-consuming, parliament could pass a law regulating the committee’s recommendations.
“If you want to go by the constitution, it will take a longer time. But you could solve that problem with regular legislation. It could determine what the committee recommends. If the committee decides there will be no payment or recommends any payment, parliament may approve it, and the president may also approve that of parliament. So, depending on the approach used, the process could be either long or short,” he added.
Habib Iddrisu and Kojo Preko Dankwa
President of the Foundation of Concerned Arts Professionals (FOCAP), Kojo Preko Dankwa, has strongly criticised the Member of Parliament of Tolon, Habib Iddrisu, for his recent comments during the vetting of Deputy Minister of Agriculture-designate, John Dumelo.
Iddrisu has been under fire from some industry personalities and netizens on social media after he advised Dumelo, a former actor, to focus on his role as he was “no longer in the movie industry” and that he should be “as serious as he can.”
However, speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie on February 26, 2025, Dankwa described the MP’s remarks as ignorant, disrespectful, and insulting to the creative arts industry.
“Frankly speaking, the MP has clearly shown ignorance. He has clearly shown disrespect. He shouldn’t forget that he’s sitting there talking into a microphone, which is a product of creativity. The clothes he’s wearing were made by a creative. Without creatives, he would have gone naked,” Dankwa stated.
He emphasised the vital role creatives play in society and demanded that the MP apologises for his comments.
“It was very insulting for him to say what he said. He should apologise to the industry. We are not going to sit down for anybody to use any language on us,” Dankwa added.
Dankwa also called for a shift in the perception of creatives in Ghana, arguing that such outdated views have been disadvantageous to the sector for too long.
“The narrative needs to change. We’ve held onto the old perception that becoming a lawyer or doctor is more important than being a creative. Little do we know that creatives are among the most important people in our lives,” he said.
He urged creatives to take charge of their narrative and advocate for their value in nation-building.
“If we as creatives begin to tell our own stories correctly, we can rewrite the history of creatives in this space. Unfortunately, many of us are still waiting for someone else to do it for us. It has to start now, or we’ll pass the same outdated perceptions to our children,” Dankwa emphasised.
The comments have reignited discussions about the value of creatives in Ghana, with many calling for greater recognition and support for the industry.

The Supreme Court has reportedly thrown out embattled New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP), Ernest Yaw Kumi, according to GhOne TV.
The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, when the NPP MP appeared before the apex court of the land.
The court refused to give Yaw Kumi audience, stating that he refused to show respect to the High Court that convicted him.
“Supreme Court refuses to grant audience to Ernest Yaw Kumi, stating he has failed to show respect to the Koforidua High Court,” a post shared by GhOne TV on Wednesday.
A Koforidua High Court issued a bench warrant for Ernest Yaw Kumi, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Akwatia in the Eastern Region, after convicting him of contempt of court.
According to multiple reports, the bench warrant was issued after Kumi failed to appear in court.
The MP had disobeyed an interim injunction issued on January 7, 2025, which barred him from being sworn in and admitted as the Member of Parliament-elect for the Akwatia constituency due to an ongoing legal dispute over his election.
Despite the court order, Kumi presented himself in Parliament and was sworn in on January 7, 2025.
Presiding Judge Justice Senyo Amedahe ruled that the convict had consistently failed to appear in court throughout the contempt case.
He also dismissed a letter from the Minority Caucus, which argued that the MP was occupied with parliamentary duties and, therefore, could not attend court sessions.
The judge rejected the letter, stating that accepting it would contradict his ruling.
Yaw Kumi’s party, the NPP, announced that a legal action would be made against the justice who convicted him at the Supreme Court.
Addressing the press at Parliament on Thursday, February 20, 2025, the MP of Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, reading a statement on behalf of the caucus, stated that multiple legal actions had been taken in response to the judge’s ruling, including an application before the Supreme Court.
“At this stage, let me further state that legal steps have been taken, and a notice of appeal has been filed against the High Court’s ruling at the Court of Appeal. An application for a stay of execution pending appeal has also been filed at High Court Number 3 in Koforidua.
“Moreover, all parties to the prohibition application, including the judge, His Lordship Justice Emmanuel Senyo Amedahe, who is the respondent in this application before the Supreme Court, have been duly served. Further legal steps will be taken, and the Minority Caucus in Parliament will keep the Ghanaian public informed on the way forward,” he said.
The Weija-Gbawe legislator also argued that the High Court judge erred in his ruling. He stated that it was improper for the judge to demand the filing of an appearance in a quasi-criminal matter.
“When someone previously came before you, you allowed the person to open a phone to provide details of a certain WhatsApp message or publication. But when a lawyer stands in for a client in a contempt matter, you insist the lawyer must file an appearance in a quasi-criminal case? Eii, Justice Senyo Amedahe,” he said.
