Bryan Acheampong’s camp hits back at Boahen Aidoo over cocoa syndication claims

0

Allies of Bryan Acheampong have issued a forceful rebuttal to comments by former COCOBOD chief executive Joseph Boahen Aidoo, accusing him of distorting the record on Ghana’s cocoa syndication reform.

In a statement released on 24 September, the Bryan Acheampong Communications Directorate said Mr Aidoo’s suggestion that the agriculture minister secretly pushed the policy through Cabinet was “illogical” and contradicted documented facts.

Fourth Estate confuses NLA sponsorships with Good Causes Foundation – Sammy Awuku

0

Former Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Samuel Awuku, has criticised The Fourth Estate over what he described as a “fundamental and deliberate error” in its recent investigation.

The Akuapem North MP accused the outlet of conflating strategic marketing sponsorships with the funds of the NLA Good Causes Foundation.

In a rebuttal, the Akuapem North MP expressed disappointment that, despite granting the outlet an interview on August 18, 2025, the final publication was, in his words, “a lopsided story that omits the significant impact made by the Foundation.”

He argued that the report’s central claims stemmed from a misrepresentation of the NLA’s operational structure.

Awuku clarified that the NLA Caritas Lottery Platform, established under the National Lotto Act, serves as the Authority’s revenue-generating arm.

“The NLA Caritas Platform has Corporate Ghana as its primary stakeholder,” he explained. Sponsorships for high-profile events such as the Africa Prosperity Dialogue and the Ghana CEO Summit, he noted, were therefore marketing initiatives aimed at drawing key industry players to the Authority.

“The association with these brands brought several benefits to the NLA, including increased brand awareness and visibility, which helped the Authority pitch its brand to industry leaders for collaborations. These collaborations generated revenue for the Caritas Lottery Platform, which in turn funds the Good Causes Foundation,” he said.

According to Awuku, this strategy transformed the Caritas Platform from a negligible base into a revenue stream that generated over GHS 11 million between 2021 and 2024.

He dismissed the investigative report as an act of “mischief” intended to mislead the public by blurring the distinction between revenue-generation activities and the charitable disbursements they enable.

Ghana National Energy Compact launched to accelerate energy access

At the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Forum held in New York, President John Dramani Mahama officially launched Ghana’s National Energy Compact under the umbrella of Mission 300, a bold initiative aimed at significantly expanding access to electricity across Africa.

“Mission 300: Energising Africa” initiative seeks to connect 300 million people on the continent to clean, affordable, and reliable electricity by 2030.

The initiative is spearheaded by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank Group, in collaboration with key partners such as the Rockefeller Foundation and Sustainable Energy for all.

Under the Compact, Ghana has set out four transformative objectives:

1. Increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix from 4% to 10% by 2026 and 30% by 2035.

2. Mobilize significant investment in the energy sector.

3. Promote clean cooking solutions.

4. Advance the productive use of energy to support economic growth.

President Mahama rings NASDAQ bell

“Ghana believes universal access to energy is essential for empowering businesses, reducing poverty, and ensuring equal opportunities for all. Achieving this vision requires strong partnerships between governments and the private sector, supported by an enabling environment for sustainable investment,” the president stated.

The Minister of Energy and Green Transition John Abdulai Jinapor stated that Ghana’s embrace of Mission 300 serves as a blueprint for attracting $20 billion in investments over the next decade, focusing on grid modernization, renewable energy projects and energy efficiency.

This effort directly addresses Africa’s persistent energy access gap, where nearly 600 million people still live without electricity.

By connecting individuals, businesses, and entire economies to power, Mission 300 aims to transform lives, energizing hospitals and schools, creating jobs, and stimulating investment and trade across the continent.

Secular music is the doorway for demons to enter the church

John Wesley Amenuku Agble is the leader of Apostolic Recovery Movement John Wesley Amenuku Agble is the leader of Apostolic Recovery Movement

John Wesley Amenuku Agble, leader of the Apostolic Recovery Movement, Yeast, has warned that secular music is steadily opening doors for demons to enter the lives of Christians and even their churches.

In a video shared on his social media pages on September 24, 2025, he explained that once a believer begins to enjoy secular music, the spiritual energies of the artistes who created those songs begin to work in the listener’s life.

Why some men leave their wives for househelps – Marriage counsellor explains

“The infiltration of demons into the believer or into the church is what happens once you indulge in listening to secular music. Demons infiltrate your life. Demons infiltrate the church. How does that happen? You see, when it comes to the individual, you enjoy it.

“And once you’re enjoying it, those energies that the people are operating with enters you. And then that begins to also rule you and run your life,” he said.

According to him, this problem extends to churches that place emphasis on excellence in music. He argued that in their quest to have the best choirs, many pastors invite “worldly people” to train their singers, and this act, in his view, exposes the church to demonic influences.

No one should be sad; Apostle Safo Kantanka will reincarnate – Ajagurajah

“When it comes to the church, as pastors, the pastor is under pressure that his choir must be the best. They want a very excellent choir. So, in that vein, they pursue excellence. And in pursuing excellence, I’m not against excellence. They want to sing melodious songs. They bring people from the world to come and train the choir. And by the time the person finishes training the choir, he has left demons in the choir.

“We have worldly musicians who go to train choirs. They come and do voice training, all kinds of things. Before they finish, they put plaster of demons in those voices. Anytime you sing, you are releasing demons to the church. That’s the infiltration of demons,” he noted.

John Wesley went on to question the adoption of secular music styles in gospel.

He probed why churches now promote gospel reggae, gospel Afrobeats and similar fusions, noting that these genres were not birthed in Christianity.

“We have churches who have borrowed beats. We cannot create beats. So, we have to borrow their beats, their style of singing, their rhythms, and infiltrate it into the church. So right now, they say, okay, let’s sing reggae, gospel reggae.

“Where did that thing come from? Who invented it? What was the inspiration behind the invention? That has opened the door for demons to enter. Now I hear gospel afrobeat or whatever. Now people are doing afro gospel. The founder of that afro whatever was who? Was he a Christian? And it has entered the church. And that is the doorway for demons to enter the church,” he added.

UCC bows to GTEC to appoint interim vice chancellor after sanctions

The impasse between the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) appears to have taken another turn, with the university acting in accordance with GTEC’s directive by appointing an interim Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof Denis Worlanyo Aheto.

In a statement dated September 24, 2025, the institution stated that the development followed an emergency meeting held by its Governing Council.

GTEC vs UCC Saga: What we know so far

“The University Governing Council wishes to inform the University Community, its stakeholders and the general public that at an emergency meeting held on 24th September 2025, Council decided to abide by the directives from Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). Accordingly, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof Denis Worlanyo Aheto is to act in the interim,” the statement read.

The institution also indicated that its activities, including academic work, will continue to proceed without any interruptions.

“The Council wishes to assure all stakeholders and the University Community that the University remains stable. Academic and administrative activities continue without disruption,” it added.

Background

In a letter dated Friday, September 19, 2025, GTEC demanded the retirement of Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Johnson Nyarko Boampong, citing his attainment of the mandatory retirement age of 60, as stipulated under Article 199(1) of the 1992 Constitution, and adding that his continued tenure violates constitutional provisions governing public officers.

“Article 199(1) stipulates that a public officer shall, except as otherwise provided in this Constitution, retire from the public service on attaining the age of sixty years,” the letter read.

It further noted that the Vice-Chancellor’s office, established under Section 7(1) of the University of Cape Coast Act, 1992 (PNDCL 278), qualifies as a public office, mandating retirement at 60 years.

GTEC referenced the UCC Statutes (2016), which limit the Vice-Chancellor’s tenure to an initial four years, renewable for three additional years, provided the statutory retirement age is not exceeded.

The commission also in its Friday, September 19, 2025, letter added that it has appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Denis Worlanyo Aheto to act as Vice-Chancellor, in line with its regulatory authority under Section 7 of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act (Act 1023).

What Trump’s $100,000 H-1B visa fee means for employers and immigrant workers

0

Trump's administration has set a $100,000 fee for H-1B visas Trump’s administration has set a $100,000 fee for H-1B visas

President Donald Trump’s administration has unveiled a new policy that would require employers to pay $100,000 per H-1B visa when hiring foreign workers in specialised roles that cannot be filled domestically.

The move marks a dramatic shift in U.S. immigration policy, sending ripples through the technology sector, higher education, and industries that rely heavily on international talent.

While the fee and new restrictions will not affect current visa holders or renewals, they are set to take effect with the next visa lottery cycle, prompting many companies and workers to reassess their options.

Roughly 500,000 people currently live and work in the U.S. on H-1B visas.

Skilled worker visa applicants hit with $100K fee under new Trump order

According to data from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the majority, which accounted for 71% of H-1B holders in the 2024 fiscal year, are from India.

China was the second-largest source, representing 11.7%.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs responded by emphasising that cross-border movement of skilled professionals has contributed significantly to economic growth in both India and the U.S.

In 2024, most H-1B visas were issued for “computer-related” occupations such as programming and systems analysis.

Tech firms, outsourcing giants like Tata and Cognizant, and multinational corporations including Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta, rank among the top employers of H-1B holders.

Other sectors, including manufacturing, finance, and higher education, also employ skilled foreign workers, but Silicon Valley has voiced the loudest concerns.

Some companies have even advised employees not to travel abroad until the policy is clarified.

Data shows H-1B holders are typically well-compensated compared to the U.S. median household income.

In 2024:

– Median salary for new H-1B computer-related jobs: $101,000

– Median salary for experienced H-1B computer professionals: $135,000

– Median U.S. household income (2024): $83,730

The new $100,000 fee, nearly equivalent to the entire annual salary of many entry-level visa holders, has raised concerns that it could deter smaller businesses and startups from participating in the program, consolidating opportunities among only the largest corporations.

However, a report by washingtonpost.com noted that analysts warn that the policy could reshape how companies source talent, potentially driving more outsourcing overseas rather than bringing workers into the U.S.

It may also spark diplomatic tensions with countries like India and China, whose nationals make up the bulk of H-1B recipients.

For now, businesses, workers, and policymakers worldwide are bracing for the ripple effects of what could become one of the most consequential shifts in U.S. skilled migration policy in decades.

Why rapture dey trend for social media?

0

One South African man wey simply describe imsef as a believer and servant of God don cause tok-tok for social media afta e predict say Rapture, one Christian belief about di end time go take place weda on 23rd and 24th of September 2025.

Joshua Mhlakela for one TV interview tok say im see Jesus in a vision. For dis vision, Jesus return to Earth on Rosh Hashanah, di New Year in Judaism.

Di pastor also announce say Rapture go take place on either September 23 or 24.

“Di rapture dey upon us, weda you dey ready or not. God carry me to see di future and e bring me back. For heaven, I see Jesus for one throne room and I hear am very loud and clear I dey come very soon.

“E tell me say on di 23rd and 24th 2025, I go come to take my church,” Mhlakela tok.

Oga Mhlakela comments bin start di trend RaptureTok on TikTok, wey share how pipo dey react to im prediction of di ‘return of Jesus Christ’ on di 23rd and 24th of September 2025.

Di video wey dem share on YouTube for June don get more dan 560,000 views as at 22 September.

Rapture na belief of di followers of Jesus Christ say e go return to Earth for di Second Coming. Wen e hapun, all Christ followers – living and dead – go rise into di sky to meet am.

Wetin Mhlakela tok for di video

Though news reports don widely describe am as pastor, for di YouTube video from June, e say “I just be simple pesin, no title. I no be apostle, I no be pastor, I no be Bishop. I just be believer.”

For di video, e say Jesus appear to am for inside dream for 2018 and e tell am say, “On di 23rd and di 24th of September 2025, I go come take my church.”

Di context, as Mhlakela tok say im understand am na di 2026 FIFA World Cup. “E bin tell me say by June 2026, di world go dey prepare for di World Cup, but bicos kasala go burst afta di Rapture, World Cup no go dey for 2026.”

Im prediction bin somehow gada momentum and a lot of reactions and comments on social media as searches for “rapture” and “di rapture Tuesday” begin trend around Sept. 20, according to Google Trends.

One of di notable pipo wey react na di Senior Pastor of di Household of God church for Lagos, Nigerian Pastor Chris Okotie.

Okotie respond directly to di vision of Mhlakela. Wit some biblical history, Pastor Okotie establish say Rapture no go take place and no fit take place on a Jewish feast of Trumpets.

E say although di South African pastor tok dey sincere but “e dey sincerely wrong and im conclusion dey opposed to New Testament doctrines and say e dey at variance wit Biblical revelations.”

Wetin Rapture mean?

Some pipo believe say di Rapture na wen Christ followers go dey taken up to Heaven, while dos wey no follow am go dey left behind on Earth, changing life for humans forever.

However, no be all Christians hold dis belief. Di Rapture dey closely linked to evangelism.

Di word Rapture no dey mentioned specifically for di Bible. But for im First Letter to di Thessalonians, Paul – one of di Apostles – write say Jesus go return one day, and “we wey dey alive, wey dey left, go dey caught up” e share some of di imagery connected to di idea of di Rapture.

Some Christians believe say di world as we know am now go come to an end for di Apocalypse. Dis dey used to refer to God final and complete destruction of di world. Belief in di Rapture fit dey connected to interpretations of dat event.

Dis no be di first time wey pesin go predict di rapture. Pipo don dey predict say di rapture fit hapun anytime as far back as di 1800s, oda kinds of end-time prophesies even go farther dan dat.

Plenti books and movies about di rapture don sell millions of copies. Dem include, The Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey, wey be di bestselling non-fiction book of di1970s, according to di New York Times.

For di book, Lindsey bin write say Jesus return no go occur until afta di final great war called “Armageddon” wey dey triggered by di invasion of di “new state of Israel”.

E also claim say dis go only take place wen “mankind go dey on di brink of total destruction.”

More recently, na di popular Left Behind series of books wey bring out one of di major themes of di rapture, wey say non-believers go dey left behind on earth.

At least three of di 16 books for di series bin reach number one for di New York Times bestseller list, and dem also do feem wit one of di books wey feature ogbonge actor Nicolas Cage.

Plenty men of God for Africa don preach about di Rapture. Di General Overseer of di Redeemed Church of God, Pastor E.A. Adeboye for one sermon for 2020 bin tok about di vision of rapture wey im get, but e no tok di date or time wen e go occur.

Also, di founder of Loveworld Ministries a.k.a Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome for 2020 bin ‘predict’ wen rapture go hapun.

For one of im Sunday service , e bin explain to im members how much time dem get before rapture hapun and why dem need to dey ready.

E show im church members di chart wey im don use calculate am.

For inside di chart, e say im use di range of di time wey Jesus waka comot di temple as 30AD and wen dem born am within 4BC to 2BC to take calculate wen rapture go hapun again.

“If we just dey take an average of 30AD plus 2000 years from dia, we go enta year 2030.”

“From 2020 to 2030, na 10 years and e mean say e no go pass 10 years before di man of sin go dey revealed,” Pastor Chris tok.

Owusu Bempah Slams NPP Over ‘Hypocrisy’ On Galamsey Criticism

0

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Owusu Bempah, has openly criticised his own party for attacking the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) over illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking in a recent media engagement, Mr. Bempah said the NPP lacks the moral authority to accuse the NDC of failing to tackle galamsey because the governing party also fell short of addressing the problem when it was in power.

Education ministry rolls out PTAs nationwide with new guidelines

0

The Ministry of Education has announced nationwide rollout of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) under a new framework designed to strengthen collaboration between schools and families.

The announcement followed the submission of final policy guidelines on the operationalisation of PTAs, developed by the National Curriculum Review Committee.

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu urged parents and teachers to work together to improve learning outcomes, stressing that education is a shared responsibility.

“PTAs are back. Now there is an established norm with guidelines to facilitate and support their work. Socialisation is a shared responsibility, particularly for young learners. While the child spends time at home, significant hours are spent in school, making both parents and teachers equally responsible for shaping the child. Ghana’s concept of socialisation must be shared,” he said.

Chairman of the Committee on the Guidelines, Kofi Asare, emphasised that PTAs must play an active role in school-level decision-making rather than being seen merely as fundraisers.

“These guidelines seek to prevent PTAs from being reduced to contributors of funds. Their key role must be participation in decisions to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

“The scope of PTAs in school development has now been tailored more towards involvement in learning and decision-making processes,” he explained.

Mr. Asare also called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure the effective implementation of the guidelines.

A night that exposed power, politics, and Perez

0

Florentino Perez is the president ofReal Madrid Florentino Perez is the president ofReal Madrid

The Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris sparkled on Monday night, September 22, 2025.

Football’s biggest names, from Aitana Bonmatí to Mohamed Salah, walked the red carpet, cameras flashing, the world’s attention fixed on who would be crowned the best in the game.

Yet, in the middle of all the glitz, one glaring absence became impossible to ignore: Real Madrid.

For the second year running, the most decorated club in European football staged a boycott of the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

No Vinícius Júnior, no Jude Bellingham, not even Kylian Mbappé, who had been among the favourites for the men’s award. Thibaut Courtois, nominated for the Yashin Trophy, was missing too.

Meet Aitana Bonmatí, the only woman to win three Ballon d’Ors

Even the young prodigy Dean Huijsen, in the running for the Kopa Trophy, stayed away. Their absence spoke louder than any speech delivered that night.

The decision, as many close to the Bernabéu privately admit, was not the players’, it was Florentino Pérez’s.

At 78, the Madrid president has tightened his grip on every lever of power at the club.

Former employees, sponsors, and even Madrid insiders describe him as the sole voice behind such boycotts, guided not by footballing logic but by politics and paranoia.

Madrid staff still whisper about last year’s fiasco, when the club pulled out of the 2024 gala at the very last minute after learning none of their seven nominees would win.

Carlo Ancelotti missed his moment to collect the Johan Cruyff Award as best men’s coach, while nobody from the club was present to accept the Club of the Year trophy.

For some, the boycott reflects a “siege mentality” that Pérez has cultivated for decades.

Allies say he views football through the lens of enemies and allies, Madridistas and anti-Madridistas.

His fallouts with UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin over the failed Super League project still burn deep.

Inside the club, many believe last year’s Ballon d’Or votes, where Rodri beat both Bellingham and Vinícius, were influenced by Madrid’s ongoing war with UEFA.

Ironically, the Ballon d’Or was once a cornerstone of Pérez’s “galáctico” project. The arrivals of Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, and Owen were all tied to the prestige of the award.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s four golden balls in Madrid were paraded as proof of the club’s supremacy.

Today, however, the relationship has deteriorated to such an extent that the award is virtually nonexistent within Madrid’s official media ecosystem.

In Paris, football’s elite toasted new winners and celebrated the game’s brightest talents. In Madrid, the silence was deafening.

The boycott wasn’t just about trophies; it was a reminder of who truly runs Real Madrid.

AMA, Intellivision, Sign 100- Tonne Pyrolysis Plant MoU

Michael Kpakpo Allotey and Kelvin Boateng exchanging the signed document

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Intellivision Technologies Ltd. to establish a 100-tonne plastic-to-fuel pyrolysis plant in Accra.

The facility will deploy Hydroxy System’s patented pyrolysis technology to convert plastic waste into premium-grade petrol, diesel, kerosene and activated carbon.

Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, said the facility is a practical solution to Accra’s plastic menace, since it would help divert thousands of tonnes of low-value plastics from drains and landfills, cut open burning, and turn waste into useful oil and gas.

‘’Beyond the environmental gains, the plant will create jobs across collection, sorting, and operations, strengthen our sanitation efforts, and give the city a reliable end-market for sachets and films that recyclers cannot use. This is about cleaner neighbourhoods, flood prevention, and a circular economy that works for our people,” he said.

He said the initiative would create about 1500 direct and indirect jobs for the people of Accra and beyond.

MCE for Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, Alfred Allotey – Gaisie who was present at the event emphasised that the initiative was great and will help keep the city clean. He encouraged other Municipal Assemblies even outside Accra to adopt this initiative to help keep the country clean.

The Chief Executive Officer of Intellivision Technologies Ltd, Kelvin Boateng, stated that the agreement was intended to “ignite a movement” that places innovation at the centre of Accra’s waste management adding that the company’s strategy focused on the circular economy and described the project as a pathway to a cleaner, healthier and more prosperous future for residents.

He noted that the plant was expected to create jobs and unlock new economic opportunities, arguing that a clean city underpins dignity, social well-being and economic strength stressing that the partnership with the AMA demonstrated how collaboration could ensure that “nothing is wasted and everything has value.”

He said the initiative was only the beginning of a longer-term drive to scale resource recovery solutions, adding that outputs were being engineered to meet strict international specifications for industrial and commercial use.

Head of Waste Management at the AMA, Ing. Solomon Noi said even though there are some people who manage plastic waste, they do it in small quantities and embraced the initiative as a great one.

“A technology is going to convert these plastic waste into useful fuel for the consumption of our industries” he said.

Djokovic to return at Shanghai Masters

Novak Djokovic will return to action in Shanghai next month in his first tournament since his U.S. Open semi-final defeat by Carlos Alcaraz, organisers of the Masters tournament said.

The Serb has won the event four times and will be making his 14th main-draw appearance as he looks to finish the season strong after being shut out of the Grand Slams by world number one Alcaraz and number two Jannik Sinner.

“He’s back. Our four-time champ, @DjokerNole will return to Shanghai this year,” the tournament posted on social media.

The 24-times major winner has struggled to find a way past the new duo dominating men’s tennis in the last two seasons but had said in New York that best-of-three set matches gave him a better chance.

The 38-year-old reached the final in Shanghai last year, losing to Sinner in straight sets. This year’s tournament runs from October 1-12.-Reuters

Meet the 7-year-old priest born with a charm in his palm

Nana Kwaku Abrantie is a 7-year-old priest born with charm in his palm Nana Kwaku Abrantie is a 7-year-old priest born with charm in his palm

Amidst the many traditional priests who shook hands with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during the final burial rites of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, one personality stood out, a 7-year-old priest.

Captivating audiences, Okomfo Kwaku Abrantie has since been trending, with netizens eager to know more about him.

In response to the growing interest, excerpts from a recent interview has surfaced online on September 24, 2025, in which the young priest’s father shared more details about his extraordinary journey.

According to the boy’s father, an old priest, whose name the child now bears, prophesied that the boy would perform miracles.

‘Women, rival priests will be his downfall’ – Prophet Amoako Atta warns priest’s father

“We know he was possessed by the gods because he did everything differently. He could chant for an hour without resting. He could prophesy, and all of them came through.

“When her mother got pregnant, one of the gods named Kwaku Abrantie, who is the dwarf of Tano, prophesied that when he comes to this earth, we should name him Kwaku Abrantie. He also added that he will help the Ashanti kingdom,” he said.

Okomfo Kwaku Abrantie was reportedly born with a spiritual charm, known as dufa, in his palm, a rare and symbolic sign in traditional belief systems.

“He came to his earth with a dufa in his palm. He had two charms, one in his left palm and the other in his right,” he added.

He said attempts by nurses at the hospital to remove the charms were unsuccessful until spiritual rites were performed.

“The nurses were surprised, and they wanted to remove it from his palm. So they had to call me, and when I came, I had to pray and ask him to give me the charm to keep it for him until he is ready to use it,” he stated.

During the interview, the young priest himself, Nana Kwaku Abrantie, disclosed that he had been possessed by a deity named Asuo Kuma at the moment he approached Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the funeral ceremony.

“The powder I poured on Otumfuo was to strengthen him. It wasn’t my decision, I was possessed by a god called Asuo Kuma,” he said.

He further explained that defying the directive of the gods could have had dire consequences.

I wanted to be a musician, but the deity chose me – Abrewa Akua Tia

“Some spirits are stronger if I had stopped it. It could have done anything it wanted to do with me. It could have killed me or inflicted me with sickness. Most of them are aged, and they can even cry if you don’t do their bidding,” he said.

The FISU University World Cup Football is organized under the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the governing body for global university sports.

The event, launched in November 2019 in Jinjiang, China, was part of FISU’s innovative plan to bring elite student-athletes from around the world together in a university-versus-university format, distinct from national team events like the Olympics.

The inclusion of football in FISU dates back to 1966 when it was the European University Championship in Galicia, Spain and later gained optional status at the 1979 Summer Universiade in Mexico City.

The World Cup format, however showcased a bold evolution with annual editions for men’s and women’s teams, featuring 24 squads qualified through continental tournaments.

UDS’s spectacular rise at 2025 FISU

University for Development Studies (UDS), after dominating the Ghana University Games, the team swept the FASU Games to earned Africa’s ticket to China.

In Dalian, UDS announced their arrival with a 2-1 group-stage upset over the UAE’s University of Sharjah, followed by a 4-1 demolition of Spain’s Ramon Llull University.

Leading Group C unbeaten, they scored 11 and conceded only 3 before the quarterfinal demolition where Frimpong’s predatory instincts with Zakaria’s midfield mastery was on display.

News of UDS’ team exploits in China spread like wildfire across Ghana, igniting a social media storm of jubilation and calls for national recognition ahead of their next game with the University of Granada in the semi-finals.

Vice president, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang set the tone earlier by congratulating the team on reaching the quarterfinals as the first African university to do so, and urged them to continue playing with courage, integrity, and passion.

AG Seeks SC Clarification On Torkornoo Removal

0

Justice Gertrude Torkornoo

The Attorney General has filed a motion to refer to the Supreme Court, an interpretation of the constitution regarding whether a Chief Justice loses his or her place on the Supreme Court Bench upon removal from office.

This is in response to a legal challenge mounted at the High Court by former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who avers that the President had no constitutional power to remove her as a Justice of the Supreme Court as a result of her removal from office as Chief Justice.

Among her arguments is that the petition which led to her removal as both a judge and Chief Justice only questioned actions she supposedly took in her capacity as Chief Justice, and not as a Supreme Court judge.

Although the court is yet to convene for the matter, the Office of the Attorney General has filed a motion asking the court to refer some constitutional questions to the Supreme Court for interpretation regarding the issue.

Among the questions is whether “a person may retain his or her previous judicial office, if any, upon appointment to the office of Chief Justice.”

It is also asking the Supreme Court to interpret whether the Chief Justice’s membership of the Superior Courts of Judicature is as a result of her position as Chief Justice.

The Attorney General wants the Apex Court to decide whether “a person may retain his or her membership of the Superior Courts of Judicature upon removal from office of the Chief Justice.”

Suit

Former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has filed an application for judicial review challenging her removal as a Justice of the Supreme Court by President John Mahama.

According to her, the Gabriel Pwamang committee which recommended her removal as a judge acted in excess of its mandate as it was set up to probe three petitions calling for her removal as Chief Justice and not a judge.

She argues that the Chief Justice is the administrative head of the Judiciary, a function not performed by other Justices of the Supreme Court, therefore, removal as a Chief Justice does not imply automatic removal as a Justice of the Superior Court, which includes the Supreme Court.

She is seeking among others, a declaration that “the President is devoid of power to remove a Justice of the Superior Court from office without recourse to the mandatory procedure set out in Article 146 of the Constitution.”

Opposition

The Office of the Attorney General, in its response, argues that the Office of the Chief Justice is distinct from other judicial offices and attainable only by a fresh and whole appointment, rather than by accumulation or enlargement of, or elevation or promotion from other judicial office.

It also argues that a person’s membership of any of the Superior Courts, being wholly, absolutely, and exclusively dependent on his or her attainment of the office of the Chief Justice cannot remain upon his or her removal from the Office of the Chief Justice.

Mpohor-Fiase residents cry over poor state of their roads

0

By Emmanuel Gamson

Mpohor (W/R), Sept. 25, GNA-Residents in the Mpohor-Fiase District of the Western Region have expressed worry over the neglect by successive governments to construct roads within the district.

According to them, despite several campaign promises, their roads had been left in a deplorable state for years, a situation seriously impacting their living standards.

Mpohor-Fiase is situated in the South-Eastern part of the Western Region and is home to over 52,000 people, who are predominantly farmers, and despite its role as a major food basket for the region, the district has no single asphalted road.

The roads in the district have been riddled with deep potholes, making commuting uncomfortable, risking lives, and impacting access to healthcare and other essential services.

Community members said constructing their roads would not only ease commuting but also boost trade and unlock the economic potential in the district.

Mr Michael Kedja, a commercial driver, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the poor state of the road continued to have a negative toll on their livelihoods.

He said: “The poor state of our roads is killing us because we spend much of our income on maintenance and repair works, so we are not able to save anything for our families.”

He appealed to the government through the District Assembly to take urgent steps and bring contractors back on site to fix the roads.

Mr Kwame Safo, an “okada” rider, said: “We are suffering on our roads because not even one of them has been asphalted. In cases of health and other emergencies, we struggle a lot, so we are appealing to authorities to do something about it for us.”

Meanwhile, Madam Sophia Aubynn, the Mpohor-Fiase District Chief Executive, said the Assembly was working tirelessly to get contractors back on site to fix the deplorable roads in the area.

Donations Stopped After Viral Misinformation – YOLO Star

0

Michael Pesah

Actor Michael Pesah, popularly known as Drogba, says a viral video falsely claiming he had been healed of his medical conditions has stopped people from donating towards his treatment.

The video, which surfaced in August 2024, suggested that the YOLO star had miraculously recovered from a rare neurological disorder after visiting Christ Embassy Airport City (CEAC). While the clip sparked excitement among many, Drogba insists it was misinformation.

“When the misinformation happened, I was still going to the hospital. Some people who had donated said I should bring the money back. I am still getting medication as well. One thing I want to tell the general public is that what the blogger posted was actually false,” he said in an interview with DJ Slim on Street Is Watching.

He also revealed that the church released the footage without his knowledge or consent.

“No, they didn’t. I didn’t even know that video had come out. I don’t know why that video came out, and I feel like if you are winning souls for someone, you don’t have to step on someone’s toe because you don’t know what the person is going through,” he added.

In 2024, Drogba disclosed he was battling multiple illnesses, including sleep apnea, GAD-positive cerebellar ataxia, and Stiff Person Syndrome — a rare condition that causes muscle stiffness and spasms. He also suffers from tremors, dizziness, and visual disturbances.

The actor later launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $280,000 for treatment abroad, citing the heavy financial strain of ongoing care.

Fourth Estate confused NLA Marketing Sponsorships with Good Causes

0

Samuel Awuku, the former Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), has accused The Fourth Estate of a fundamental and deliberate error in its recent investigation, stating the media outlet has mischievously conflated strategic marketing expenditures with the core funds of the NLA Good Causes Foundation.

In a detailed rebuttal, the Akuapem North MP expressed disappointment that despite granting an interview to the outlet on August 18, 2025, the resulting publication was a “lopsided story that omits the significant impact made by the Foundation.” He argued that the report’s central claim is based on a misunderstanding of the NLA’s structure.

Awuku provided crucial context, explaining that the NLA Caritas Lottery Platform, established under the National Lotto Act, is the revenue-generating arm. “The NLA Caritas Platform has Corporate Ghana as its primary stakeholder,” he stated.

Sponsorships for events like the Africa Prosperity Dialogue and Ghana CEO Summit were, therefore, Marketing Department initiatives to attract key industry players.

“The association with these brands brought several benefits to the NLA, including increased brand awareness and visibility, which helped the Authority pitch its brand to industry leaders for stakeholder collaborations, thereby generating revenue for the Caritas Lottery Platform, which in turn, funds the Good Causes Foundation,” Awuku explained.

He revealed that this strategy grew the Caritas Platform from a negligible kitty to generating over GHS 11 million between 2021 and 2024. He framed the report as “mischief,” designed to mislead the public by blurring the lines between essential revenue-generation activities and the charitable disbursements they enable.

Private legal practitioner and social activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has cautioned that President John Dramani Mahama’s legacy risks being overshadowed by the negative effects of illegal mining, if his administration fails to decisively tackle the menace, popularly known as “galamsey”.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Barker-Vormawor argued that no matter the government’s economic achievements, the unresolved “galamsey” crisis would leave a lasting stain on Mahama’s presidency.

He stressed that even if the economy reflects significant growth, neglecting the fight against illegal mining would erode the administration’s credibility, given the environmental destruction and community devastation linked to the practice.

“The government seems to be prioritising economic expansion over addressing ‘galamsey’, and that could have lasting consequences for the President’s image and legacy,” Barker-Vormawor warned.

He further cautioned that the issue would continue to haunt Mahama’s presidency unless tackled head-on.

“Even if the cedi were to go to GH¢ 6 to a dollar, the ‘galamsey’ question is not going to leave the President; it’s going to haunt him,” he said.

Why water bills remain unchanged

Water bills witnessed only 0.1% marginal adjustment Water bills witnessed only 0.1% marginal adjustment

As the local currency continues to depreciate, the cost of living has been steadily climbing, affecting everything from groceries to utility bills.

In response to these economic shifts, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) announced on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, that electricity tariffs will increase by 1.14% starting in October.

However, PURC confirmed that water tariffs will remain unchanged for the final quarter of the year.

The reason being that water bills witnessed only a 0.1% marginal adjustment after detailed tariff computations.

According to the Director of Research and Corporate Affairs at PURC, Dr Eric Obutey, the commission decided to not increase water bills as the change was marginal and wouldn’t make any impact.

Electricity tariffs to increase in October, water bills unchanged – PURC

“When we did the computation, we realised that if we took all the factors into consideration – the exchange rate as well as inflation – the marginal change in tariff would have been 0.1% for water,” Dr Obutey said on citibusiness news.

He further said; “In the wisdom of the commissioners, they thought it wise that 0.1% and 0% – there is not much difference – so let’s leave it at 0%, so that there will be no change at all in the water tariff.”

The adjustment falls under PURC’s Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism, which evaluates key economic indicators such as inflation, currency fluctuations, and energy generation costs to determine fair pricing.

While water tariffs remain stable for now, some factors such as operational costs, outstanding debts, billing cycles, and future tariff reviews could influence adjustments in the future.

Foreign Minister Withdrew My US Trip Ticket – MP Asafo-Adjei

0

Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh

The Deputy Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, has alleged that he was deliberately prevented from travelling to the United States to participate in a United Nations conference because of his outspoken criticism of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In an exclusive interview with DAILY GUIDE, Mr. Asafo-Adjei recounted how his officially sanctioned trip was disrupted at Kotoka International Airport, despite being nominated by the Minority and cleared by the Ministry for the journey.

He explained that the Ranking Member of the Committee, Samuel Abu Jinapor, unable to attend the programme, had delegated him to represent the Minority.

“For about a month now, my Ranking had made it clear to both Parliament and the Minister that he could not attend. So the Minority delegated me, as Deputy Ranking, to represent him,” he said.

According to him, on September 18, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested his passport biodata for ticketing.

That same day, Mr. Asafo-Adjei Ayeh said he received an electronic ticket, adding that at the time, he was in Côte d’Ivoire on a Minority assignment investigating the condition of Ghanaian refugees.

He narrated that he returned to Ghana the following day, September 19, 2025, and prepared to depart for the conference on September 20, 2025.

However, the Deputy Ranking Member asserted that matters took a dramatic turn at the airport when he was turned away with an explanation that his ticket had been withdrawn by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

According to Mr. Asafo-Adjei, he was accompanied by the Committee Chairman, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije and the Committee Clerk.

“The clerk checked in successfully. When it got to my turn, the process delayed. Then Hon. Vanderpuije was directed to another counter and was cleared. Later, the lady at the desk told me, ‘Honourable, your ticket has been withdrawn’,” he narrated.

He said efforts to resolve the matter proved unsuccessful, pointing out that the Ministry, acting on instructions from the Minister, barred him from the trip.

“The clerk showed us a text message from the Minister instructing that only the clerk and Hon. Vanderpuije should be taken care of. As for me, I could not. So I returned the documents and left quietly,” he recounted.

The lawmaker believes the move was deliberate, linking it to his frequent disagreements with the Minister during committee proceedings and his comment on Ghanaian refugees in Côte d’Ivoire.

“It is obvious. The ticket was procured, my details were provided, and I had even just returned from Côte d’Ivoire on official Minority work. But suddenly, the ticket was withdrawn. This is not a coincidence,” he insisted.

Mr. Asafo-Adjei said the incident was not the first time tensions had flared between him and the Minister.

“Even in committee meetings, there have been heated confrontations. On one occasion, he questioned why I had addressed a press conference after asking questions in Parliament. Clearly, my criticisms of his leadership style are the reason behind this latest action,” he stated.

According to him, he has since reported the development to both the Minority leadership and the Committee.

“I have officially reported this to my leadership. When they return, we will take the appropriate steps and measures,” he said.
