FDI in Ghana soars 382% in 2025 H1 as China leads inflows

0

Ghana has recorded a major rebound in foreign investor confidence, with foreign direct investment (FDI) surging by 381.9% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to fresh data from the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

The country attracted 76 new projects valued at US$862.96 million between January and June 2025, a significant jump from US$179.07 million in the first half of 2024.

The surge underscores renewed optimism in Ghana’s economic outlook amid ongoing reforms to stabilise the macroeconomic environment and improve the investment climate.

The manufacturing sector dominated in project numbers, accounting for 32 new investments, while general trading led in terms of value with US$622.92 million worth of capital commitments.

Once fully operational, the new projects are expected to create over 4,700 jobs across various sectors of the economy.

China emerged as Ghana’s largest investment partner, spearheading inflows with 22 projects during the period. It was followed by India (14 projects), Nigeria (8), and the UAE and UK (4 each).

The United States ranked sixth with three projects, while Liberia, Mauritius, Singapore and Turkey each recorded two projects.

Ghana’s improving policy environment, strategic location, and targeted investment promotion efforts are reinforcing its position as a leading destination for capital in West Africa.

The sharp uptick in FDI is also expected to boost growth in manufacturing, trade and job creation, further supporting the government’s medium-term economic recovery agenda.

Bolt Food partners with major grocery and retail brands to expand services in Ghana

0

Bolt Food Ghana has announced a series of partnerships with leading grocery and retail outlets as it marks its fifth year of operations in the country, reinforcing its position as one of Ghana’s fastest-growing on-demand platforms.

The company confirmed that it has signed agreements with all major retail and grocery brands, including Melcom, Maxmart, Fairway, Palace, Sneda, and Kwikmart. The expansion also extends beyond groceries, with electronics chain Telefonika, pharmacies, pet care outlets, flower shops, frozen food distributors, and alcohol retailers now featured on the Bolt Food platform.

According to Bolt Food, the move reflects both a response to shifting consumer demand and a long-term strategy to diversify its services beyond food delivery. The company believes this step positions the app as a comprehensive convenience platform, offering customers access to everyday essentials on one trusted digital channel.

“This milestone shows how far we’ve come since announcing our entry into the grocery and retail space last year. By bringing Ghana’s leading retail and grocery brands onto the platform, we’re proving that Bolt Food is more than a food delivery app. It’s becoming the go-to platform for everyday essentials,” said Ali Zaryab, General Manager of Bolt Food Ghana.

He added that the expansion also benefits local businesses and couriers. “Customers increasingly want one trusted platform that gives them access to everything they need, while retailers are seeking digital channels to reach more households. Our partnerships with major brands mark a strong step forward in reshaping convenience in Ghana and creating more opportunities for businesses and couriers alike.”

The company stated that the expansion would empower its ecosystem by generating wider earning opportunities for couriers and enabling both small and large businesses to reach new customers through Bolt Food’s platform.

As part of its growth plans, Bolt Food says it will continue to invest in strategic partnerships, technology upgrades, and new retail categories, with the aim of becoming Ghana’s most reliable on-demand services platform.

Globally, Bolt operates in over 50 countries and 600 cities, serving more than 200 million lifetime customers. Its services include ride-hailing, e-bike and scooter rentals, car rentals, corporate mobility, as well as food and grocery delivery.

Founder of the Ebenezer Miracle Worship Centre, Prophet Opambour, has issued a stern warning to some critics who have allegedly wished for his death.

In a video making rounds online, Opambour unleashed a series of curses on those he claims desire his downfall, warning that anyone who wishes him harm will die prematurely.

“Some of you are sitting somewhere telling a mallam to make me blind or to die just so you can be happy. My downfall is your happiness.

‘You will all die!’ – Opambour tackles ‘doom prophets’

“No true man of God would speak evil against me or wish for my death, because I don’t wish death on anyone. If you hear a media personality insulting me on the radio, I have given you people the chance to insult the director,” he stated.

He even declared that his head should be chopped off if the prophecy that drove people to consult mallams and plot his downfall fails to come true.

“Ghana will be like hot water. If my prophecy does not come to pass, cut off my head. Ghanaians will witness what will happen,” he added.

Background

Recently, while preaching to his congregation, Prophet Opambour issued a stern warning to some prophets in the country following the passing of Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

During his sermon, Opambour accused these prophets of delivering what he called “doom prophecies” and alleged that they collaborate with witches.

He further claimed that most of their prophecies are false.

According to him, pastors who spread such false messages will eventually fall victim to their own doom prophecies, warning that death awaits them.

President John Dramani Mahama has said Ghana’s economy is currently rebounding under the government’s “Reset Agenda,” citing major improvements in stabilising the economy and restoring investor confidence.

Speaking at the 80th UN General Assembly on September 25, 2025, President Mahama highlighted a drop in inflation from 23.8% in December 2024 to 11.5% by August 2025.

He also noted that the cedi has appreciated recently against major global currencies.

“In just eight months, we have achieved a significant reduction in inflation — from 23.8% in December 2024 to 11.5% in August 2025, restoring price stability for our citizens. Additionally, the Ghana cedi has appreciated considerably against other currencies,” he said.

According to financial data firm Bloomberg, the cedi was at one point the best-performing currency in the world this year, an achievement that underscores Ghana’s improved economic fundamentals.

President Mahama further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to long-term structural reforms, including the ambitious 24-Hour Economy initiative.

The program, designed to promote round-the-clock productivity across sectors, is expected to generate jobs, boost industrial output, and significantly expand economic opportunities.

“Our improved sovereign credit rating reflects increasing investor confidence. Our 24-Hour Economy initiative promises to transform our economy. There is a renewed willingness among the people to trust that their elected officials have Ghana’s interests at heart and that we are progressing together,” he shared.

“I Don’t Know How He Came to the Conclusion That He Too Can Be President” — Kwesi Pratt Blows Hot

0

According to a report by GhanaWeb, veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Junior has sharply criticized certain government appointees, accusing them of inappropriate conduct.

He claimed some officials are already maneuvering to position themselves as potential successors to President John Mahama, who cannot contest the next general election after serving two terms.

Pratt urged the President to take decisive action against such individuals before their ambitions undermine the administration’s work.

He stressed that the campaign to select the ruling party’s next presidential candidate has not officially begun, yet some officials are behaving as if it has.

Their actions, he said, amount to misconduct that threatens the government’s focus and effectiveness.

The journalist also targeted a particular minister, whose name he withheld, questioning the ability to manage the ministry effectively while simultaneously harboring presidential aspirations.

He expressed incredulity at the minister’s public statements, suggesting that such claims reveal poor judgment and a lack of commitment to current duties.

Pratt criticized the notion that leadership roles are divinely predetermined and warned that such attitudes could distract from the administration’s goals.

“I don’t know how he came to the conclusion that he too can be president, whether it is the reflection of himself he saw in the mirror or whatever,” he fumed.

He commended President Mahama’s firm approach to governance, including asset declaration, and urged him not to allow the remaining term to be compromised by a few ambitious appointees.

Pratt’s recommendation is clear: remove officials displaying disruptive behavior to safeguard the government’s achievements and maintain focus on national priorities.

He emphasized that decisive action would prevent personal ambitions from undermining the administration’s legacy.

The future is African – President Mahama tells UN General Assembly

0

By James Amoh Junior

Accra, Sept. 25, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has declared that Africa will play a defining role in shaping the world’s future.

He stressed that the continent’s demographic growth, resilience, and untapped potential made it central to global peace, development, and economic transformation.

President Mahama, delivering a speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday, reminded world leaders that although Africa’s contribution as the founding of the UN in 1945 was “minimal and relatively insignificant,” the global order had changed.

He said: “According to this organisation’s own projections, by the year 2050, more than 25 percent of the world’s population is expected to come from the African continent. Additionally, by 2050, one-third of all young people, aged 15 to 24, will be residing on the African continent,” he stated.

“So, you see, the future is African. Allow me to say this once again, a little louder for the people in the back. The future is African!” President Mahama said, drawing a resounding applause from the world leaders.

President Mahama noted that Africa was already a catalyst for human potential, economic reform, and ecological stability.

He challenged lingering biases rooted in racism, colonialism, and imperialism, arguing that such perceptions underestimated Africa’s proven capacity to overcome adversity.

Citing Ghana’s recent economic turnaround, he said his administration’s “reset agenda” had reduced inflation from 23.8 per cent in December 2024 to 11.5 per cent in August 2025, while stabilising the cedi, which Bloomberg at one point ranked as the best-performing currency in the world.

He urged the UN to embark on its own “reset agenda,” particularly reforming the Security Council to reflect today’s realities.

“If this were truly the case, a continent as large as Africa with its numerous UN Member states would have at least one permanent seat on the Security Council. Furthermore, veto power should not be restricted to five nations, nor should it be absolute,” he argued.

President Mahama called for a reset of the global financial architecture, removal of the blockade on Cuba, and reparations for slavery and colonialism.

He insisted Africa must gain a greater voice in multilateral financial institutions and exercise sovereignty over its natural resources to fund development.

The President also condemned global indifference to conflicts and humanitarian crises, singling out the war in Gaza and the tragedy in Sudan.

“The crimes in Gaza must stop,” he urged, stressing that migrants and refugees from Africa should not be treated with suspicion but recognised for their contributions, citing examples of distinguished Africans in the diaspora.

On climate change, he highlighted the disproportionate impact on the Global South, despite its lower emissions.

“We cannot normalise cruelty. We cannot normalise hatred. We cannot normalise xenophobia and racism,” President Mahama warned.

The President further expressed hope for a world that guaranteed equality for women and girls, lauding Ghana’s first female Vice President, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, as a symbol of progress.

President Mahama reaffirmed the UN’s critical role as the “proverbial town square of our modern global village,” urging members to protect multilateralism and pursue genuine reform for a just and inclusive world.

He believes the president’s leadership style is too accommodating and is causing frustration within the party.

Mahama urges UN to protect multilateralism in era of rising nationalism

0

President John Dramani Mahama has warned that the breakdown of multilateralism poses grave risks to global peace and security, drawing parallels with the collapse of the League of Nations before World War II.

Addressing the UN General Assembly on Thursday, September 25, he said the current era bore “all too similar” conditions.

“These are dangerous times. Our world is experiencing a rise in nationalism and economic instability. Various acts of aggression have been committed against the sovereignty of others, and nations are attempting to circumvent the very safeguards put in place to prevent large-scale global conflict,” he said.

Mr Mahama described the UN as “the proverbial town square of our modern global village,” which must be protected at all costs.

“It has never been more critical for us to protect this one space that brings and holds the world’s nations together as a community,” he told delegates.

He cautioned against the illusion of connectivity fostered by artificial intelligence and social media.

“These platforms reinforce isolation by using algorithms that ensure we do not receive new ideas and perspectives. We are served alternative facts and manipulated images, making it easier to disseminate disinformation and sow seeds of division,” he warned.

The Ghanaian leader called on world leaders to recommit to cooperation, saying, “We cannot normalise cruelty. We cannot normalise hatred. We cannot normalise xenophobia and racism. If we are going to tell a story, let’s not tell it slant. Let’s tell all the truth.”

80th UNGA: ‘If it quacks like a duck, then it’s a duck’

President John Dramani Mahama spoke at the United Nations General Assembly President John Dramani Mahama spoke at the United Nations General Assembly

President John Dramani Mahama has condemned the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling for an immediate end to the violence and what he described as the “collective punishment” of innocent Palestinian civilians.

Speaking during a session of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, September 25, 2025, Mahama dismissed views that a two-state solution would benefit Hamas; instead, he emphasised that peace must prioritise the suffering of ordinary Palestinians.

“Since then, and I say contrary to the claims of some, a two-state solution would not be a reward for Hamas. It would rather be a retreat for the hundreds of thousands of innocent women, children, and people who are facing collective punishment and forced starvation for no reason other than the fact that they are Palestinians,” President Mahama said.

The president also criticised world leaders for what he believes is their reluctance to speak plainly about the atrocities unfolding in Gaza, accusing them of using carefully selected language to avoid addressing the reality.

“For nearly two years, and for the fear of reprisals, we here in this General Assembly have been playing hide and seek with language to find the right words to help us avoid or excuse what we all know is taking place in Gaza.

“But here’s the thing; it doesn’t matter what you call it. If it looks like a duck, it swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, well, then it must be a duck. The crimes in Gaza must stop,” he stated.

The president further called for an end to the violence in Gaza, while also drawing attention to war-torn Sudan, which is facing a humanitarian crisis that has displaced millions of people.

“The crimes in Gaza must stop. But, Madam President, I also want to draw particular attention to the conflict in Sudan, which this body has described as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Twelve million people have had to flee their homes,” he stated.

Ghana Stock Exchange Breaks 8,000-Point Barrier

Ghana Stock Exchange
Ghana Stock Exchange

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) achieved a significant milestone on September 25, 2025, with the benchmark Composite Index (GSE-CI) breaking through the 8,000-point barrier for the first time in months, closing at 8,046.69 points during Trading Session 7057.

The remarkable single-day gain of 217.60 points represents a 2.78 percent increase from the previous session’s close of 7,829.09 points, marking one of the strongest daily performances recorded by the exchange this year. The index has now achieved a year-to-date return of 60.15 percent, significantly outperforming most emerging market benchmarks.

The GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) also posted strong gains, advancing 43.49 points to close at 3,738.36 points, reflecting broad-based strength across the banking and financial services sector. The financial index has generated a year-to-date return of 0.57 percent, indicating resilience in Ghana’s financial sector amid challenging economic conditions.

Market capitalization reached GH¢160.7 billion, representing substantial wealth creation for investors and highlighting the exchange’s recovery from earlier periods of volatility. The current valuation reflects growing investor confidence in Ghana’s economic prospects and corporate sector fundamentals.

Trading activity remained relatively modest with 416,360 shares changing hands valued at GH¢1.51 million, continuing a pattern of lower volumes that has characterized recent sessions. Previous trading days showed significantly higher volumes, with Tuesday recording 4.99 million shares valued at GH¢20.74 million, suggesting institutional participation varies considerably across sessions.

Individual stock movements contributed to the market’s strong performance, with notable gains across multiple sectors. Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) posted the most significant percentage gain, rising GH¢1.00 from GH¢10.00 to GH¢11.00 per share, representing a 10 percent increase that reflects ongoing interest in utility sector investments.

MTN Ghana (MTNGH), which has dominated trading activity in recent sessions, continued its upward trajectory with a gain of GH¢0.17, maintaining its position as one of the exchange’s most actively traded securities. The telecommunications giant’s market capitalization of GH¢56.78 billion makes it one of the largest companies by market value on the exchange.

Other notable performers included Total Ghana, which advanced GH¢0.41, while Unilever Ghana declined marginally by GH¢0.01, demonstrating the mixed performance across consumer goods companies. The diverse sector representation in daily gainers suggests broad-based market momentum rather than concentration in specific industries.

AngloGold Ashanti Ghana (AGA) maintained its substantial market capitalization of GH¢18.64 billion, while Tullow Oil Ghana (TLW) retained its position with a market value of GH¢17.43 billion. These resource sector companies continue providing significant market capitalization weight to the overall index calculation.

The strong performance comes amid ongoing discussions about market development initiatives and potential new listings. The Finance Minister has previously announced plans for ECG to be listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange, which could provide additional market depth and investment opportunities for both institutional and retail investors.

ECG’s revenue generation capacity has been compared to MTN Ghana’s operations, with monthly revenues reaching GH¢1.5 billion, suggesting the utility company’s potential listing could significantly impact market dynamics and provide investors with exposure to Ghana’s growing energy sector.

The exchange continues operating under its established trading framework, with the Ghana Alternative Market (GAX) and odd lot trading segments showing minimal activity during the session. This concentration of trading in the main market reflects investor preference for established, liquid securities over alternative market offerings.

Market observers note that while trading volumes remain below historical peaks, the consistent index gains reflect underlying confidence in listed companies’ fundamentals and Ghana’s broader economic trajectory. The breakthrough above 8,000 points establishes new technical resistance levels and may attract additional investor attention to Ghanaian equities.

The performance positions the GSE among the strongest-performing African stock exchanges this year, with the substantial year-to-date gains attracting both domestic and international investor interest. The market’s ability to sustain momentum above the 8,000-point level will be closely monitored as a key indicator of continued investor confidence.

Looking forward, market participants will monitor whether trading volumes increase alongside index gains, as sustained market advancement typically requires both price appreciation and increased participation across investor categories. The current combination of strong index performance and modest trading activity suggests potential for significant volume expansion if investor sentiment continues improving.

Three dead, four rescued after being trapped in abandoned galamsey pit at Twifo-Mampong

0

Three people have died while four others were rescued after being trapped in an abandoned mining pit at Twifo-Mampong in the Twifo Atti-Mokwa District.

Local reports indicate that the victims, mostly young men, had secretly entered the site, which has been inactive for nearly five years following the closure of a Chinese mining company’s operations.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Isaac Yawson, confirmed the incident to Adom News, adding that the bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Twifo Praso morgue for autopsy and further investigation.

While the identities of the victims are yet to be officially confirmed, they are believed to be natives of Mampong.

Mr. Yawson revealed that the tragedy occurred on a Wednesday, a day traditionally observed as a no-go day for the forest, when activities such as farming and mining are prohibited. Investigations indicate that many youths in the community engage in illegal mining at night.

“The chief has assured me that anyone caught engaging in such activities at night will be arrested,” the DCE emphasized.

Railway Workers Union suspends strike, awaits NLC negotiation

0

The Railway Workers Union of Ghana has announced the suspension of its intended strike and peaceful picketing originally scheduled for September 30, 2025, following a directive from the National Labour Commission (NLC).

In a letter addressed to the Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, the union indicated that the NLC had responded to its earlier communication dated September 16, 2025, and directed that the planned industrial action be put on hold to allow for negotiations.

“The Commission has directed that we stay our intended action and appear for negotiations on 30th September 2025. We remain committed to this process and will honour the Commission’s directive in good faith,” the union stated.

The union, however, warned that if its concerns are not addressed during the talks, it will proceed with its industrial action at a later date.

The union earlier threatened a nationwide strike and peaceful picketing on September 30, 2025, over 12 months of unpaid salaries and entitlements.

In a notice to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, the union said wage arrears, dating back to October 2024, have caused severe financial hardship, broken homes, health issues, and disrupted children’s education.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has backed the RWU, giving the government until September 30 to clear the arrears or face a nationwide strike.

TUC General Secretary, Joshua Ansah, stressed the urgent need for government intervention, urging authorities to “find any means” to settle the debt.

‘Why include Yemi Alade’s Johnny song in basic 3 book?’

The parent has quizzed GES for including Yemi Alade's song in a basic 3 book The parent has quizzed GES for including Yemi Alade’s song in a basic 3 book

A Ghanaian parent has taken to social media to express displeasure with the Ghana Education Service, accusing them of overloading her child with studies.

In a post shared on X on September 25, 2025, the unidentified lady slammed the GES for including the entire lyrics of Nigerian singer Yemi Alade’s “Jonny” song as part of the syllabus.

She explained that the workload was already too much for her 7-year-old class 3 pupil and questioned why a song with adult themes was featured in a text book for minors.

“I have a problem, and in my opinion, it’s a very serious problem, so this textbook here is the creative arts book for the basic three, that’s my daughter’s textbook first and foremost. The book is too big. I’m going through the book to see what at all it says that the kids are supposed to be learning in the basic three from such a big book, and then I came across this page where it’s talking about Afrobeats.

My child defied everything I knew, parenting is more than theory – Lecturer

“I think it’s bad enough. The whole lyrics of the song Journey by Yemi Alade are in the book, word for word, in a class three child’s book, my daughter is just seven years old,” she said.

She also called on the Ghana Education Service to revisit its curriculum and cross-check what is published in the textbooks for students in the country.

“You will agree with me that a seven-year-old child. Should have no business being exposed to this, like in school at that age? Like, really, there’s so much else you can teach the kids than Johnny. Oh my goodness.

“GES needs to set up the curriculum. If you don’t have anything to teach the kids, like, I don’t know, do something else,” she added.

A road user on the Adukrom-Somanya Road in the Eastern Region captured the moment a truck transporting furniture overturned and spilled its load after slamming into concrete barriers along the stretch.

In a video published on X by EdHub on September 25, 2025, the driver of the truck is seen ramming the side of the vehicle into the concrete barriers while navigating sharp curves on the hilly road.

The video captured from the front seat of a pickuo then cuts to a scene where the truck is lying on its side, with the load scattered along the roadside.

“The issue is that down there, my brake burst,” he stated.

A half-year report by the National Road Safety Commission, covering the period between January and June 2025, showed an upward trend in road crashes compared to the same period in the previous year.

The Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, is confident that GNPC Explorco will strike oil in commercial quantities as it commences the next phase of exploration activities in the Voltaian Basin.

The Voltaian Basin covers about 460 communities in 13 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies (MMDAs), 10 in the Northern Region and three in the Savanna Region.

President Mahama recently announced at the Africa Oil Week event in Accra that GNPC and Explorco are moving closer to drilling two exploration wells by the end of the third quarter of 2026.

GNPC targets drilling in Voltain Basin in 2026 – Petroleum Commission

According to Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, the attempt to uncover hydrocarbons in commercial quantities in Northern Ghana will become a reality and serve as a game-changer, especially for people in the North.

“You come to us at a time when Ghana’s energy future is being shaped, and the possibility that our northern lands might contribute to the nation’s petroleum resources is both exciting and significant,” he noted.

The Dagbon overlord added, “For generations, our region has been blessed with agricultural abundance and rich cultural heritage. The prospect that we might also be blessed with oil reserves underground adds a new chapter to our story of resource endowment.”

Addressing the board and management of Explorco, who paid a courtesy call on him at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, the Yaa Naa pledged to provide the team with all the support needed in their next exploration phase, just as he did in their earlier activities, to make the dream of turning the Northern Region into a petroleum hub a reality.

“Today, as you prepare to embark on more extensive drilling activities to assess the viability of oil wells in our region, you have our continued blessings and full support,” he said.

The visit was also to introduce the board and management of Explorco to the King and to announce that Explorco is now leading exploration activities under the Voltaian Basin Project.

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of GNPC, Explorco operates with growing technical capacity, fiscal discipline, and a vision to drive the nation’s upstream petroleum ambitions by leveraging exploration and production expertise.

The Explorco delegation, led by Board Chairman Dr Aaron Issa Anafure, confirmed President Mahama’s announcement about drilling two exploratory wells by the end of the third quarter of 2026.

He assured the King that the board is determined to make it happen.

“This is a new Explorco, and we want to assure you that our second coming is to reset Explorco. It will not be like before. This is a very serious mission,” the board chairman asserted.

Dr Anafure assured the Yaa Naa, on behalf of the board, management, and staff of Explorco, that everything possible will be done to fulfill the company’s mandate to lead exploration and production in the Voltaian Basin.

He emphasised that a solid partnership with the Dagbon Kingdom and the people of the Northern Region is crucial at this stage to successfully discover hydrocarbons in commercial quantities.

Dr Anafure further stated, “The facelift in terms of development that the Northern Region will witness is the reason all hands must be on deck, under a peaceful atmosphere, to offer Explorco the support needed to make history.”

He also noted that if Explorco is successful in discovering oil, rural-urban migration from the Northern Region will significantly reduce due to the many employment opportunities that will be created.

“This is a new Explorco and, Your Majesty, we really mean business,” Dr. Anafure added.

The delegation, which included Managing Director Samuel Opoku Arthur, also updated the Yaa Naa on the next phase of their campaign to discover hydrocarbons in commercial quantities.

Other members of the delegation included board members Benjamin Narteh Ayiku and Madam Stella Bondzie, as well as Deputy Managing Director (Technical), Iddris Abukari Abdul-Mumin.

In recent years, the Sarkcess Music record label CEO has been accused of having an affiliation with the main opposition party after he praised former president Nana Akufo-Addo in his 2020 hit single, Happy Day, which featured former Lynx Entertainment signee Kuami Eugene.

Rapper Sarkodie’s use of the phrase “Nana Toaso” in the song was seen by many as an endorsement of the former president, who campaigned with that slogan as he vied for a second term in office during the 2020 general elections.

The allegations continued to persist after the rapper remained silent on national issues during Nana Akufo-Addo’s tenure, despite being vocal about the previous John Dramani Mahama administration.

Sarkodie speaks on alleged NPP affiliation

On Thursday, September 25, 2025, Sarkodie attended the Kumasi Rising Music, Media, and Tourism Dialogue event as a guest speaker at the IDL Conference Hall in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

In a conversation with media personality Serwaa Amihere, the rapper, who is preparing for his highly anticipated upcoming Rapperholic Homecoming concert, denied having any connection with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Sarkodie stated that he did not know any official from the main opposition party and had not taken any money to campaign for them.

He said:

“Do I have a connection with the NPP? I do not know any member of the party. People keep saying that I did a song for them, but they have not given me any money. I said a line in a verse about our ex-president, for which I still stand by.”

The BET Award winner stated that he only supported former President Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party’s Free education policy during his tenure.

Sarkodie also noted that he had never had the opportunity to meet political leaders and hold discussions about the Ghanaian entertainment industry.

He said:

“I was all for the Free Education policy. I am still in support of it, and I will praise it. Whether you bash me or not, I will still stand for it. I have not had the opportunity to sit with people in power.”

The rapper and his entourage received a rousing reception from numerous residents, who joined the walk to promote the upcoming Rapperholic Homecoming concert.

After the event ended successfully, Sarkodie showed appreciation to the fans for their massive turnout for the peace walk with some financial compensation.

In a video shared by blogger Vimbuzz TV, bundles of cash rained on the fans as the BET award-winning rapper made his exit in a luxurious Toyota Land Cruiser.

Members of Sarkodie’s entourage, including his manager Angel Town, also threw stacks of five Ghana cedi notes on the fans, who hurriedly rushed to pick them from the floor.

I am the most qualified person with the training and skills to represent NPP — Ing Kwabena

0

According to a report by GhanaWeb, Ing Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has raised concerns about the New Patriotic Party’s move to create a special committee to monitor the activities of presidential hopefuls, their campaign teams, and supporters ahead of the party’s primaries set for January 31, 2026.

The committee was established following a meeting with the aspirants on September 11, 2025.

Agyepong criticized the approach, suggesting that the party already knows which individuals are engaging in misconduct.

He argued that lumping all candidates together is unproductive and that those causing problems should be addressed individually.

Reflecting on his own experience, Agyepong emphasized his long-standing commitment to disciplined political conduct.

Drawing from his time as Press Secretary to former President John Agyekum Kufuor, he highlighted his training in respectful engagement and his avoidance of derogatory politics.

While questioning whether the committee was necessary, he acknowledged its formation.

He encouraged party members to recognize that his campaign approach remains professional and issue-focused.

Agyepong stressed that the party is at a pivotal moment and that Ghana requires rejuvenation and forward-thinking leadership.

He called for a shift from outdated practices toward a new, dynamic approach.

With respect to his competitors, Agyepong presented himself as a highly qualified candidate, noting his extensive training, grassroots understanding, and dedication to the party’s ideals.

“I believe we need a drastic departure from our old ways and a commitment to a new path,” he stated.

“With all humility and respect to the other candidates, I believe I am the most qualified person, with the training and skills to represent the party and its interests.”

Confident in his ability to lead the NPP to success, he expressed readiness to secure the outcome the party seeks in the upcoming primaries.

“You will hit oil” – Yaa Naa blesses Explorco’s Voltaian basin project

0

The overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, is certain that GNPC Explorco will hit oil in commercial quantities as it begins its next phase of exploration activities at the Voltaian Basin.

The Voltaian Basin spans about 460 communities in 13 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs), 10 of which are in the Northern Region, with three others located in the Savanna Region.

President Mahama announced last week at the Africa Oil Week event in Accra that GNPC and Explorco are inching closer to drilling two exploration wells by the end of the third quarter of 2026.

According to Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, this attempt to uncover hydrocarbons in commercial quantities in Northern Ghana will be a reality and a move that will be the game changer, especially for Ghanaians in the North.

“You come to us at a time when Ghana’s energy future is being shaped, and the possibility that our northern lands might contribute to the nation’s petroleum resources is both exciting and significant,” he noted.

The Dagbon overlord added that “for generations, our region has been blessed with agricultural abundance, rich cultural heritage, and the prospect that we might also be blessed with oil reserves underground adds a new chapter to our story of resource endowment”.

Addressing the board and management of Explorco, who paid a courtesy call on him at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, the Yaa Naa pledged to provide the team all the support they will need in their next exploration phase, as he did in their previous activities, to make the dream of making the Northern region a potential petroleum hub, a reality.

“Today, as you prepare to embark on more extensive drilling activities to assess the viability of oil wells in our region, you have our continued blessings and full support,” he said.

The visit was, among other things, to introduce the board and management of Explorco to the King and to announce to him that Explorco is now leading exploration activities on the Voltaian Basin Project.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of GNPC, Explorco operates with growing technical capability, fiscal discipline, and a vision to drive the nation’s upstream petroleum ambitions by leveraging exploration and production expertise.

The Explorco delegation, led by the Board Chairman, Dr. Aaron Issa Anafure, confirmed President Mahama’s announcement of drilling two exploratory wells by the end of the third quarter 2026 and assured the King the board is bent on ensuring it happens.

“This is a new Explorco, and we want to assure you that our second coming is to reset Explorco, and it will not be like before. This is a very serious mission,” the board chairman asserted.

Dr. Anafure assured the Yaa Naa on behalf of the board, management, and staff of Explorco that everything possible will be done to achieve the mandate handed to Explorco to lead exploration and production in the Voltarian Basin.

He told the Yaa Naa solid partnership from his kingdom and the people of the Northern region is what Explorco requires at this juncture to carry through its mission to find hydrocarbons for Ghana in commercial quantities.

Dr. Issa Anafure said, “The face-lift in terms of development the Northern region will witness is the reason all hands must be on deck under a peaceful atmosphere and offer the needed support to Explorco to make history”.

The Explorco Board chairman again noted that when Explorco is successful in discovering oil, the rural-urban migration the Northern part of Ghana continues to witness will be a thing of the past because of the many employment opportunities this will offer.

“This is a new Explorco and your majesty, we really mean business,” Dr. Anafure added.

The delegation, which included the Managing Director of Explorco, Samuel Opoku Arthur was at the Yaa Naa’s palace in Yendi to also update him on the next phase of their campaign to find hydrocarbons in commercial quantities.

The Explorco delegation included two board members, Hon. Benjamin Narteh Ayiku and Madam Stella Bondzie, and Deputy Managing Director (Technical) Iddris Abukari Abdul-Mumin.

Other management members and staff were also part of the delegation.

President John Dramani Mahama held up Ghana’s remarkable economic turnaround under his administration’s “reset agenda” as a compelling model for the United Nations to follow in its own reform process.

Detailing the challenges he inherited in January 2025, including a rapidly depreciating currency, high inflation, and low national morale, President Mahama reported significant progress in just eight months.

“We have achieved a significant reduction in inflation, from 23.8% in December 2024 to 11.5% in August 2025, restoring price stability for our citizens,” he announced at the 80th UN General Assembly on September 25. He also highlighted that “the Ghana cedi has appreciated considerably against other currencies, with Bloomberg reporting it as the best-performing currency in the world at one point,” a feat that has boosted investor confidence.

Drawing a parallel, President Mahama suggested that the 80-year-old UN must also undergo a “process of serious recalibration.”

He reflected on how much the world had changed during the eight-year gap between his non-consecutive terms, stating his return felt like awakening from a “Rip Van Winkle-style slumber.”

He then posed a rhetorical question to the assembly: “imagine, then, what it would be like after eighty years,” urging the UN to establish its own “reset agenda” for the modern era.

The late Ernest ‘Bahubali’ Akushey

Ghanaian professional boxer Ernest Akushey, widely known in the ring as Bahubali, has died just 11 days after his last fight against Jacob Dickson at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.

The 29-year-old took part in the super middleweight contest on September 12, losing to Dickson in the eighth round. Reports suggest Akushey suffered internal bleeding following the bout, which led to his passing in the early hours of Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

Akushey, who fought in both the super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions, ended his career with eight professional bouts, winning six.

His sudden death has reignited concerns over safety in Ghanaian boxing, with calls expected to grow for stronger medical protocols and improved protective measures for fighters.

The Ghana Boxing Authority is yet to release an official statement.

God bless Mahama and grant him long life – Oppong Nkrumah [Audio]

0

Ofoase-Ayirebi Member of Parliament and former Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has prayed for God’s blessings and long life for President John Dramani Mahama following his acknowledgement of the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on Ghana’s economy.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah recalled that ahead of the 2024 general elections, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), then in opposition, dismissed claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that global shocks—including the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war—had contributed significantly to Ghana’s economic challenges.

“God bless President Mahama and grant him long life for speaking the truth. Before the elections, he and his team insisted our difficulties were due to mismanagement. They even mocked us on social media, nicknaming Dr. Bawumia as ‘Bawuliar.’ Today, he goes to the United Nations to admit that COVID-19 has derailed the global economy for 20 years,” he said.

The lawmaker described Mahama’s recent statement as a U-turn, pointing out that during the election campaign, the NDC argued that Ghanaians’ economic hardships were solely caused by poor leadership and not by global crises.

“Their main argument was not about the management of COVID-19 funds, but that the hardships were solely caused by mismanagement. Now he admits COVID played a major role. Unfortunately, it is too late because they secured power on the back of propaganda,” Mr. Oppong Nkrumah noted.

During the 2024 campaign, the NPP government had consistently highlighted the pandemic and other global shocks as factors that strained Ghana’s economy, while the NDC maintained that corruption and reckless economic management were to blame.

At the time, former President Mahama downplayed the international impact, even stating that “the Russia bomb is not close to Ghana” and that the economic challenges were mismanaged locally.

His recent remarks at the United Nations, acknowledging that the effects of COVID-19 will disrupt global economies for two decades, have reignited political debate in Ghana.

For Mr. Oppong Nkrumah, the significance lies in the fact that Mahama lived long enough to make this confession.

“This shows Ghanaians have a short memory, just as he once said. But at least, by God’s grace, he has lived to set the record straight, even if it comes after winning power,” he added.

Family lessons for nation-building in Ghana

0

“Grandpa, sending you hugs, love, and wishes on your birthday.”

On September 1, I received this simple but heartfelt message from my grandchildren. While it filled me with joy, it also sparked reflection: what can a personal act of love teach us about the larger work of nation-building?

In many ways, Ghana mirrors a large family—diverse, vibrant, and full of potential—but often challenged by divisions, distrust, and unfulfilled promise.

1. From Family Bonds to National Cohesion

In families, love and care are shown through simple gestures: a hug, a kind word, a wish for well-being. These acts nurture trust and strengthen bonds. Ghana, like a family, thrives when its citizens care for one another and work toward shared goals.

Peaceful interactions in families remind us of the social glue that holds communities together. When citizens extend empathy and support beyond themselves—through mentorship, volunteering, or civic engagement—national cohesion grows.

Pull Quote: “Just as a hug strengthens family bonds, acts of empathy and care can bind a nation together.”

2. National Love in Action: Lessons from Elections

Love for the nation is more than sentiment—it is commitment. A striking example in Ghana’s recent political life was Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s quick concession after the elections. By prioritising national stability over personal pride, he helped prevent chaos and affirmed the importance of collective well-being.

Peaceful elections, fair political competition, and respect for institutions are acts of love for the nation. They show that the understanding of national interest exists. What remains is translating that understanding into long-term, tangible action.

Pull Quote: “If concessions and peaceful elections are acts of national love, it shows understanding is present; now we must act.”

3. Hope and Vision: From Birthday Wishes to National Aspirations

Receiving birthday wishes is an expression of hope—a belief in continued life, health, and happiness. For Ghana, hope represents a shared national vision: educated children, thriving businesses, clean communities, and accountable governance.

When communities take action—planting trees in Accra, mentoring youth in Kumasi, supporting local traders in Tema—these gestures mirror the care we exchange in families. Small acts collectively build resilience, social cohesion, and a sense of shared destiny.

4. Understanding Without Action Is Not Enough

Understanding Ghana’s challenges—political, economic, or social—is necessary but insufficient. Peaceful elections and responsible concessions signal comprehension of national priorities, but action is essential to turn understanding into progress.

Practical pathways include:

• Empowering the Informal Sector: Supporting street traders in Accra and Tamale through cooperatives, microfinance, and skills training.

• Strengthening Civic Education: Teaching young people about responsibility, ethics, and active participation.

• Investing in Communities: Improving schools, healthcare, sanitation, and local infrastructure.

• Promoting Ethical Leadership: Rewarding integrity and holding leaders accountable.

Pull Quote: “Understanding alone cannot build infrastructure, create jobs, or improve schools—action must follow insight.”

5. Civic Responsibility: Every Ghanaian Counts

Receiving birthday wishes reminds me of intergenerational responsibility. Similarly, every Ghanaian, regardless of profession, can contribute to nation-building. Students, professionals, artisans, and farmers all play roles in strengthening our social and economic fabric.

Every act of integrity, mentorship, and service becomes a “hug” sent to the nation—an investment in collective prosperity. Ordinary citizens, like family members, can be catalysts for transformation when they act intentionally and responsibly.

6. Empathy as a Development Strategy

Family life teaches us empathy. A birthday wish shows care; national policies should reflect the same principle.

• Education as Embrace: Schools that nurture students morally, intellectually, and socially create a generation capable of national contribution.

• Healthcare as Love: Accessible and affordable care protects lives, reduces suffering, and demonstrates societal value.

• Economic Inclusion as Hope: Integrating informal workers into structured economic systems enhances dignity, opportunity, and social stability.

Pull Quote: “Empathy, when scaled from family to nation, becomes a blueprint for development.”

7. Turning Understanding into Tangible Action

Ghana stands at a pivotal moment. Peaceful elections, concessions in the spirit of national love, and citizen comprehension indicate a strong foundation. The challenge is to act:

1. Translate understanding into action: Civic engagement, ethical leadership, and community participation.

2. Support local communities: Invest time, resources, and expertise in neighbourhood initiatives.

3. Empower citizens economically: Promote cooperatives, vocational training, and entrepreneurship.

4. Celebrate empathy: Encourage mentorship, volunteering, and acts of care.

Each act, like a heartfelt birthday wish, may seem small but carries immense cumulative impact.

8. Conclusion: From Personal Hugs to National Transformation

Receiving birthday wishes from my grandchildren is deeply personal—but it carries a universal lesson for Ghana: care, empathy, hope, and action are pillars of nation-building. Peaceful elections and ethical concessions demonstrate understanding, but love must manifest in concrete, consistent action.

Ghana can become a nation of achievement if citizens extend their “hugs” to communities, their “love” to policies, and their “wishes” to national progress. Each act of care strengthens bonds, nurtures resilience, and builds trust. When all Ghanaians participate consciously, the nation flourishes not by chance, but by deliberate, collective effort.

Pull Quote: “Let every Ghanaian send their own hug, love, and wish—not just to family, but to the nation itself.”

Solomon Owusu to petition for removal of Sophia Akuffo from Council of State

Solomon Owusu (R) has called for the removal of Sophia Akuffo (L) from the Council of State Solomon Owusu (R) has called for the removal of Sophia Akuffo (L) from the Council of State

A member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has hinted at his plans to petition for the removal of former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo from the Council of State.

According to him, Akuffo’s recent comments regarding the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo constitute a breach of the oath of secrecy as a member of the Council of State.

Why Ghana is yet to file a response to Torkornoo’s case at the ECOWAS Court

Owusu expressed the view that Akuffo’s actions could set a dangerous precedent in the country, criticising her for also serving as a witness for Justice Torkornoo during the Pwamang-led committee’s probing of petitions against Torkornoo.

“I’m happy to announce to you also that she will be the next person that I will petition to be removed from the Council of State for breaching of oath of secrecy. What she has done is so dangerous, it must never be encouraged in this country. And I’m serving notice to her that I will go after her. We need to rid this country of such people.

“She has occupied the position of the Chief Justice of this country before. If you go to the Council of State, she is in charge of the legal, constitutional and petitions committee. Every petition that goes to the Council of State, it goes to her first. She took part in the consultation with the President to establish the prima facie case. You knew all the issues surrounding it, how on earth would you then turn and go back to the committee and serve as a witness?” he said on TV3 on September 24, 2025.

His comments follow Akuffo’s condemnation of the removal of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office as Chief Justice, arguing that her successor was not given a fair hearing.

Akuffo made the remarks in an interview on TV3 on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

“She did not get a fair trial. Even though it is not a trial strictly speaking, it was handled as though it were a treason trial,” the Member of the Council of State said.

For years, Sarkodie has been at the center of political speculation, with critics suggesting he subtly endorsed the NPP in his 2020 hit song ‘Happy Day.’

The song, which featured Kuami Eugene, included the line “Nana Toaso” a phrase that was also the campaign slogan of then-President Nana Akufo-Addo as he sought a second term in office.

Many interpreted the lyric as an endorsement, with the ruling party at the time even adopting it during campaign rallies.

Former minister compares Mahama’s deportee deal to controversial ‘Gitmo 2’ agreement

Seth Acheampong is the former Eastern Regional Minister Seth Acheampong is the former Eastern Regional Minister

Former Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama for repeating past mistakes in handling international agreements, following the government’s decision to accept a group of West African deportees from the United States without parliamentary approval.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Thursday, September 25, 2025, Acheampong said the government’s approach mirrors the infamous ‘Gitmo 2’ controversy, where two Guantanamo Bay detainees were admitted into Ghana during Mahama’s first term without seeking Parliament’s ratification.

He argued that Ghana had failed to learn from history, stressing that proper procedures should have guided the latest agreement.

11 West African nationals deported despite pending court case

“This shouldn’t have been a matter we revisit because we have gone through this before. If in times past we had a similar situation and people felt we didn’t execute the international relations adequately, I was hoping history would guide us, so we handle it more appropriately,” he stated.

Acheampong recalled that the Supreme Court later ordered the ‘Gitmo 2’ agreement to be brought before Parliament for approval, warning that a similar legal challenge could arise from the current deal.

“It is becoming concerning because it happened in my senior brother John’s first term, and we are experiencing it in the second term. When it goes on and on, it is as if we are not learning anything as a country,” he decried.

He also expressed support for the Minority in Parliament, who have raised constitutional objections to the deal and demanded its suspension.

“My colleagues in Parliament are saying let’s do things right, and I believe in summary that is what they are asking us to do, and I hope that we eat humble pie,” he said.

The Minority caucus insists the agreement violates Article 75 of the 1992 Constitution, which requires that all treaties, agreements, or conventions signed by or under the authority of the President must be laid before Parliament for ratification.

How suspected drug addict shattered trader’s dreams

Ephraim Kasujja displays the injuries he sustained after the attack in Kangulumira, Kayunga District Ephraim Kasujja displays the injuries he sustained after the attack in Kangulumira, Kayunga District

Lying on a bed moved into the sitting room, 55-year-old Ephraim Kasujja groans in pain as he gazes at his plastered left hand — severed by a suspected drug addict in a horrifying attack.

His wife, Ms Rehemah Nassuna, a breastfeeding mother, gently tries to convince him to eat some cooked beans, but Mr Kasujja can barely focus. Mr Kasujja, a prominent livestock trader in Kayunga District, was on September 9 attacked while walking to a nearby shop. Until that day, he had been an energetic, healthy man without any disabilities.

The assailant, 22-year-old Joel Kabaale, wielded a machete in the centre of Kangulumira Town. The attack left four people dead, including two adults and two children, and resulted in Kasujja losing part of his left hand. Kabaale was later killed by an angry mob.

“I no longer sleep because of the intense pain. All my dreams have been shattered,” Mr Kasujja says, frustration etched across his face.

“At this age of 55, I had always been careful and healthy, but now I have lost a hand,” he adds.

The fateful evening

Narrating his ordeal from his modest two-roomed home, Mr Kasujja, a polygamous father of 10, recalls the day vividly. Heavy rain fell that evening, and around 7:45pm, he asked his wife to prepare tea. When she discovered there was no sugar, Mr Kasujja set off to a nearby shop. “But before I reached the shop, a voice shouted, ‘Why do you want to kill me?’” he recalls weakly. “In the dark, I wondered who the person was and who wanted to kill him,” he adds. Before Mr Kasujja could make sense of the situation, he was attacked. Kabaale hacked him on the head multiple times. As Mr Kasujja tried to flee, his left hand was severed and fell into a nearby ditch.

Bleeding profusely, he raised an alarm, causing the attacker to run. On the way, Kabaale hacked two other people, killing them instantly. Due to a town-wide power outage, he vanished into the darkness, making it difficult for angry residents who had responded to the commotion to track him immediately.

Covered in blood, Mr Kasujja and the two other victims were rushed to Kangulumira Health Centre IV, where responders feared all were dead. “I don’t know how I reached the health centre. I regained consciousness only in the theatre,” he says. Medical staff confirmed that the two others had died, but Mr Kasujja survived.

Life after the attack

After a brief stay, he was transferred to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital in an ambulance while undergoing a blood transfusion. There, doctors treated his head injuries before operating on his severed hand. After four days, he was discharged — still in pain and struggling to adjust to life with a disability.

Mr Kasujja now requires help even for basic tasks like bathing. “I thank God I am still alive. All four other victims did not survive, but I think God gave me a second chance,” he says.

Despite surviving, he continues to suffer from traumatic hallucinations, seeing the attacker in his dreams. “Although a mob killed my tormentor, the incident is still fresh in my mind. I had no grudge against him,” Kasujja says. As the family’s sole breadwinner, Mr Kasujja worries about providing for his 10 children. “All the capital I had for my business has been spent on treatment. I now rely on handouts from well-wishers. I also worry about paying for my children’s education,” he says. Doctors have informed him that he will likely regain some function in six months, but for now, Kasujja is dependent on others.

The aftermath

The following morning, residents tracked down Kabaale after he attacked two juveniles near the initial scene. The children, aged six and four, were among the victims. Kabaale was killed by the mob, and all bodies, including his, were handed over to families for burial, says Ms Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Regional Police spokesperson. A police source in Kayunga, speaking on condition of anonymity, attributed the incident to drug abuse. Authorities had recently carried out operations in Kangulumira Town to arrest suspected drug addicts, some of whom had already been taken to court.

Mr Wilberforce Kirya, who lived near the attacker, says Kabaale began smoking marijuana in Primary Seven and later dropped out of Uganda Martyrs Secondary School, Kangulumira, after assaulting a teacher. “He slept in a makeshift structure in Kituti Village and associated only with fellow drug users,” Kirya said.

Mr Robert Kiggundu, Kangulumira Town mayor, used the incident to caution youth against drug abuse and alcoholism.

“This is a tragic reminder that substance abuse destroys lives, families, and communities,” he said.

The Timeless Allure of the Modest Laced Dress

0

In today’s fashion world, modesty is no longer just a choice — it is a celebrated statement of elegance and self-expression. Among the many wardrobe staples that embody this trend, the modest laced dress stands out as a perfect blend of sophistication, romance, and simplicity. As one fashion enthusiast once said, “Modesty is not about hiding yourself; it’s about revealing your dignity.” This sentiment is beautifully captured in the design and purpose of a laced dress that embraces both style and grace.

The Art of Lace Detailing

What makes the modest laced dress so enchanting is its intricate detailing. Lace adds texture, depth, and a soft femininity that instantly elevates any look. Whether it’s a full lace overlay or subtle lace trims along the neckline, sleeves, or hem, these delicate patterns offer a sense of refinement that turns a simple dress into a masterpiece. The subtle transparency of lace allows a whisper of allure while maintaining full coverage, striking a perfect balance between beauty and modesty.

Versatility for Every Occasion

Another strength of the modest laced dress is its incredible versatility. It can be worn year-round, easily adapting to the season. In spring and summer, its breathable fabric makes it light and comfortable, while in autumn and winter, it pairs beautifully with a tailored coat, warm shawl, or even chic boots for a cozy yet polished look. The modest silhouette — often featuring longer sleeves, high necklines, and midi or maxi lengths — ensures that you feel confident and comfortable no matter the occasion.

A Dress for Every Event

From weddings and church services to dinner dates or casual outings, the modest laced dress offers timeless charm. It is formal enough for special events but can also be styled down for a more relaxed day look. Add a pair of elegant heels and a clutch for a sophisticated evening outfit, or go with flats and minimal accessories for a laid-back afternoon with friends.

More Than Just Fashion

Choosing a modest laced dress is about more than style — it’s about celebrating grace and self-respect. It reflects a fashion philosophy that values comfort, confidence, and timeless beauty over fleeting trends.

Jasmine Paolini

Italy successfully defended their Billie Jean King Cup crown after Jasmine Paolini sealed a 2-0 triumph over the United States in Shenzhen on Sunday.

World number eight Paolini delivered a commanding performance to beat American top seed Jessica Pegula 6-4, 6-2, securing Italy’s sixth title in the women’s team competition.

The 29-year-old has been outstanding throughout the tournament, going unbeaten in both singles and doubles this year and winning nine of her last 10 matches in the competition.

Her heroics came after world number 91 Elisabetta Cocciaretto set Italy on their way with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 victory over Emma Navarro.

The 24-year-old recovered from 4-2 down in the second set to defeat the world number 18 in just under 80 minutes.

“It’s amazing, I didn’t expect it,” Paolini said after clinching the title. “It’s been a really great week and it’s amazing to play this competition. The United States were very strong today. It was really tough.”

The victory marks Italy’s second consecutive Billie Jean King Cup title, following last year’s success against Slovakia, and their first back-to-back triumphs since 2010.

For the United States, the defeat means their wait for a record-extending 19th title continues. They were playing in their first final since 2018 and have not lifted the trophy since 2017.

Konsa Defends Unai Emery Over ‘Lazy’ Comment

0

Unai Emry (L) and Ezri Konsa

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa says head coach Unai Emery was right to label his players “lazy”.

Emery was furious with his side after Sunday’s 1-1 draw at 10-man Sunderland, saying: “We were lazy sometimes in defence. When we conceded, we were lazy.”

Wilson Isidor levelled with 15 minutes left after Matty Cash’s opener, with the Black Cats playing one short for an hour after Reinildo Mandava’s red card.

“Yeah, it’s a fair comment. I think everyone has seen the picture, seen the goal,” said Konsa.

“Here we pride ourselves in trying to play a high line, it is something the boss has instilled since he first came.

“We didn’t quite get it right. Things have not been good for us so far this season. But there are blips in the season and we are going through that now. Hopefully we can move on.

“When your manager doesn’t speak too well of you, it is not a good thing for you. It does bring a bit of fuel into you and you just want to play the next game as soon as possible, to prove everyone wrong. It starts from tomorrow.”

Asked if Emery had called his players lazy privately, Konsa added: “No. The boss is not a big speaker. Sometimes he keeps himself to himself.

“As players, we have been in the game a long time and we know what we need to do. It is down to us at the end of the day. We are on the pitch, not the manager. We have to figure it out for ourselves as well.”

Speaking before Bologna’s visit to Villa Park in the Europa League on Thursday, Emery said he was “angry” after the match against Sunderland.

“I was frustrated and disappointed but when I analysed it I was getting the balance,” said Emery.

“I am demanding and always trying to understand how we can feel stronger. After the match I told the players we have to be more demanding.”

The draw against Sunderland left Villa 18th in the Premier League and winless in their opening five games, out of the Carabao Cup and having scored just one league goal.

Konsa, though, says the club are not in “crisis”.

“I don’t think we are at the stage where we need to have meetings,” he said. “People will talk about crisis meetings and things like that but we have got a great captain in John McGinn, who really takes the lead in stuff like that.

“After the game, he said a few words to keep us going, to keep encouraging us. Look, we haven’t started the season well. We know that. But I’m sure it’s going to go well soon.

“It shows how far we have come over the last three years [that people have criticised Villa’s start to the season]”.

Ghana updates renewable energy masterplan to advance gender, responsive and timely green transition

MoEnGT is in strong collaboration with the MEST, with support from UNDP MoEnGT is in strong collaboration with the MEST, with support from UNDP

Ghana’s Renewable Energy Masterplan (REMP), first developed in 2019 to

guide the country’s transition to sustainable energy, is undergoing a strategic

update to reflect emerging priorities, evolving development policy, new

technologies, and challenges.

The update led by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition (MoEnGT) is in

strong collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology

(MEST), with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

under the ‘Climate Promise – Pledge to Impact initiative’.

In July 2025, a National Taskforce was established, comprising sector experts from the MoEnGT as chair, MEST, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Environmental Protection Authority, Energy Commission, Association of Ghana Solar Industry, and the Renewable Energy Association of Ghana.

Following the first National Taskforce review meeting held in early September, a second review meeting was convened in Koforidua from 11th to 13th September 2025.

The Taskforce is expected to ensure strong technical and policy guidance,

promote gender-responsive and inclusive planning, and ensure effective

stakeholder engagement, thereby strengthening the foundation for Ghana’s

green transition pathway.

Once updated, the Renewable Energy Masterplan will accelerate the shift toward a green economy by embedding gender-responsive approaches and ensuring the transition is both timely and inclusive.

This update reflects Ghana’s commitment to aligning national energy planning with global climate goals, while actively ensuring all segments of society benefit from the renewable energy transition.

Ing Seth Mahu, Director for Renewable Energy and Green Transition at the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, and Chair of the Taskforce, emphasised the importance of UNDP’s role in Ghana’s renewable energy journey:

“We are grateful to UNDP for the support in the initial project, which led to the Development of the Renewable Energy Masterplan, which became effective in

2019.”

He explained that reviewing the Masterplan every five years is critical to ensure its relevance and effectiveness. “Everything around the plan is dynamic; nothing is static.

The economy is growing, and energy demand is rising. There is a shift in global energy architecture, and we think it is important for us to

ensure that we review the plan to reflect what is happening globally,” he noted.

According to him, the review also provides an opportunity to take stock of progress made so far, check consistency in implementation, and whether targets are on track to be achieved.

Adjustments will be made where necessary to strengthen delivery.

The review process is also timely, given global conversations on energy transition following on from COP26 in Glasgow, as well as Ghana’s expanded mandate under the newly established Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.

Speaking on UNDP’s support to the review and update of Ghana’s Renewable

Energy Masterplan (REMP), Dr Abdul-Razak Saeed, Head of Environment and

Climate at UNDP Ghana emphasized the strategic importance of the process.

He noted, “This update aligns with Ghana’s preparation of its third generation

Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). It presents a critical opportunity

for the REMP to integrate concrete actions that contribute to national emission

reduction targets, particularly within the energy sector, as will be outlined in the revised NDC. By doing so, it ensures that Ghana’s energy transition is not only ambitious but also aligned with its climate commitments and inclusive

development goals.”

The Taskforce is examining national, regional, continental, and global policy documents to ensure the updated plan aligns with broader energy and climate goals.

Following its technical review, the team will engage civil society organisations, power utility providers, academia, financial institutions, and other stakeholders to enrich the process before presenting the final document to the Minister for cabinet approval.

As Ghana advances its energy transition agenda, the updated Renewable Energy

Masterplan is set to serve as a blueprint for a clean, inclusive, and sustainable energy future.

Mahama Assigns Global Coordinator Role To MiDA

Alex Mould, MD, MiDA

President John Dramani Mahama has formally designated the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) as the government’s primary focal institution for coordinating philanthropic and grant-based partnerships.

In a letter dated September 19, 2025, addressed to the Chairperson of MiDA and copied to the Ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs, President Mahama cited MiDA’s track record of technical excellence, fiduciary discipline, and effective delivery as the basis for the new designation.

The move is intended to streamline and enhance the country’s engagement with major international philanthropic entities.

“This designation affirms Government’s confidence in MiDA’s institutional strength,” the letter stated, emphasising MiDA’s historical success in implementing large-scale development projects such as the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compacts.

The new role empowers MiDA to serve as the central coordinating body for all government engagements with philanthropic partners.

This includes strategic alignment with national priorities like the Feed Ghana Programme and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As part of its expanded mandate, MiDA will now be responsible for acting as the lead institution for aligning philanthropic efforts with national development goals, managing secured funds grants, and implementing robust procurement systems.

MiDA’s designation specifically includes, but is not limited to, collaboration with global philanthropic giants such as the Open Society Foundation (OSF), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Mastercard Foundation, and other similar entities.

President Mahama has instructed MiDA to work proactively with the Ministry of Finance, relevant sector ministries, and designated organisations to unlock impactful development financing opportunities for Ghana.

“We are confident that under your leadership, MiDA will excel in this strategic role,” the President’s letter concluded, expressing optimism about Ghana’s potential to become a trusted global partner in international philanthropy.

This strategic shift is expected to bolster Ghana’s capacity to attract and manage international grants effectively, ensuring that partnerships deliver measurable, lasting benefits to the Ghanaian people.

Researchers train on Remote Sensing for Biodiversity Conservation

0

By Florence Afriyie Mensah, GNA

Kumasi, Sept. 25, GNA – A three-day training workshop has opened for some selected postgraduate students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to acquaint themselves with remote sensing technologies in addressing the increasing biodiversity losses.

The training is being organised by the West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) at the KNUST in collaboration with the Earth Observation Capacity Building for Africa (EOCap4Africa) Project.

It is designed to equip the students with both technical knowledge and practical skills in electromagnetic radiation, atmospheric and surface interaction.

Again, the researchers will be exposed to potential challenges of spatial data, forest ecosystems and remote sensing, image classification and change detection, creating scientific maps, among others.

The German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) and the German Environment Ministry (BMUV) funded the training through the EOCap4Africa Project.

Professor Kwaku Amaning Adjei, Dean, Faculty of Civil and Geo-Engineering, at the KNUST, highlighting the significance of the training, said biodiversity loss was occurring globally with negative impacts on ecosystem function and human well-being of which Ghana was no exception.

He said: “Our forests, wetlands, savannahs, and coastlines are home to an extraordinary diversity of life.

“Yet, these ecosystems and their services face threats from illegal mining, climate change, and urban expansion.

He indicated that, remote sensing offered a powerful lens through which one could observe, understand, and protect ecosystems, adding that, from satellite imagery to UAVs, these technologies allowed for monitoring changes in land cover, track species habitats, and assess water quality.

Prof Amaning Adjei said especially in our part of the world where data was scarce but several remotely sensed data made available through European Space Agency (ESA), NASSA and others were helping to bridge the gap.

Dr Insa Otte, Project Coordinator, EOCap4Africa, citing scientists’ estimation of losing species at a rate at least 100 times faster than the natural background rate, called for remote sensing to track wildlife and monitor wetlands and coastal areas.

She believed that exposing conservationists, policymakers and innovators to these technologies would not only contribute to global science but also shape the future of our own communities and country.

“This is not about importing solutions from outside.

It is about creating solutions here in Africa, that are relevant, effective and rooted in local realities – while also contributing to the global effort of conserving life on earth,” Dr Otte envisioned.

Prof Wilson Agyei Agyare, Director of WASCAL, said the workshop had become crucial considering the countless challenges in managing natural resources.

Remote sensing data, he believed, was the best approach to addressing biodiversity conservation challenges, and called for expansion of knowledge to enable more professionals to manage natural resources effectively.

Bahubali lost his life after a boxing bout play videoBahubali lost his life after a boxing bout

The boxing fraternity in Ghana has been plunged into mourning following the death of Ernest Akushey popularly known as Bahubali.

The boxer passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, just eleven days after suffering a punishing technical knockout defeat to Jacob Dickson at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

His death has reopened painful conversations about the health and welfare of fighters in Ghana.

But beyond that, the details of his final hours, as recounted by his twin sister, Naa Akweley, reveal a desperate struggle that relied first on faith and spiritual intervention before medical help was sought.

Bahubali’s twin sister reveals circumstances surrounding his death

According to her, the ordeal began when Bahubali’s wife rushed to inform her that something was terribly wrong.

But instead of taking him to a hospital, the family sought spiritual help from multiple pastors before finally rushing the boxer to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

“I was in Accra trying to take a nap after smoking fish when his wife came running to me. She said my brother was not in a good state, so we rushed to his room. He wasn’t waking up when she called him. I got scared. We brought him out and took him to a church. The pastor prayed for him, and he got better,” she recalled.

The pastor had also directed them to proceed to the hospital, but instead of heading straight there, as advised, the family made another stop.

“The pastor told us to take him to Korle Bu, but I said no, I was taking him to another pastor in Teshie. They also prayed for him, and again, he looked better. But soon after, my brother started shrinking. I called the pastor again and begged him to come,” she added.”

Only then did they arrange transport to Korle Bu, where Bahubali was placed on oxygen.

For a brief moment, it seemed like he would recover. But while his sister tried to rest, tragedy struck.

“One of our sisters woke me up asking if I couldn’t see that my brother was being covered with a cloth. I jumped, started hitting his chest, calling him to wake up, but he didn’t. My brother did not wake up,” she further stated.

Bahubali’s death has sparked mourning across Chorkor and beyond, but his sister’s testimony adds another layer to the tragedy.

As Coco Chanel famously said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” This statement perfectly captures why top-and-trouser styles are thriving—they suit the rhythm of modern life.

1. Silk and Satin Tops with Tailored Trousers

Silk and satin remain timeless symbols of elegance. A silk blouse, camisole, or tunic instantly adds a touch of sophistication, especially when paired with tailored trousers. High-waisted and wide-leg cuts are especially popular right now, creating a polished, elongated silhouette that works for the office or a formal dinner. The softness of these fabrics balances beautifully with the structured look of tailored trousers.

2. Knit and Sweater Tops with Wide-Leg Trousers

Perfect for colder months, knit tops and chunky sweaters have made a major comeback. Pairing them with wide-leg trousers creates a cozy yet elevated look that’s ideal for casual meetups, lunch dates, or city strolls. This combination blends warmth with style while providing maximum comfort.

3. Cotton and Linen Tops with High-Waisted Trousers

Breathable fabrics like cotton and linen are a must for warm weather. A crisp button-up or a breezy linen blouse paired with high-waisted trousers gives off a fresh, effortless vibe. This look is ideal for vacations, brunch dates, or even casual Fridays at work, offering both comfort and a flattering silhouette.

4. Leather Tops with Skinny Trousers

For a bold, statement-making look, leather tops are the way to go. Whether it’s a leather blouse or a cropped jacket, pairing it with black skinny trousers creates a sleek, edgy appearance that’s perfect for a night out. Add heels or boots to complete the daring ensemble.

5. Denim Tops with Straight-Leg Trousers

Denim never goes out of style. This season, pairing denim shirts or jackets with straight-leg trousers is a smart yet relaxed option. This outfit works well for casual office days, shopping trips, or coffee dates, offering durability and style in one.

Final Thoughts

The combination of tops and trousers is proof that fashion can be both practical and stylish. From the luxe touch of silk to the casual cool of denim, these pairings offer endless outfit possibilities for modern women. The key is to experiment with different textures, cuts, and accessories until you find what makes you feel confident and comfortable.
