The hardworking minister stated that the United States has officially reversed its visa restrictions placed on Ghanaian citizens.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Ablakwa outlined that Ghanaians will now have access to five-year multiple-entry visas, along with additional enhanced consular privileges that facilitate travel and diplomatic engagement.

This announcement came after an important bilateral meeting on September 26, 2025, during the United Nations General Assembly, where US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison, conveyed the positive development.

Ablakwa, who represents the North Tongu Constituency, expressed his gratitude for the outcome, attributing this success to months of meticulous diplomatic negotiations between the two nations.

“Big win for Ghana. The US visa restrictions imposed on Ghana has been reversed. Ghanaians can now be eligible for five-year multiple-entry visas and other enhanced consular privileges.”

“This good news was directly communicated to me by US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison at a bilateral meeting earlier today, in the margins of the UN General Assembly.”

“I am really pleased that months of high-level diplomatic negotiations has led to a successful outcome.”

“It will be recalled that the US imposed visa restrictions on Ghana and other countries in July this year. The affected countries were slapped with a maximum three-month single entry visas and other limitations. In the specific case of Ghana, the Trump Administration said they were reacting to many years of visa overstays mainly by students. It’s good to see healthier and stronger Ghana 🇬🇭 USA 🇺🇸 relations. For God and Country. 🇬🇭 🙏🏾

Legal Green Association applauds President Mahama’s bold stand on Gaza genocide

0

The Legal Green Association of Ghana (LGA), a left-wing association of law students, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for what it describes as a courageous and morally upright address at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Association said President Mahama distinguished himself by speaking truth to power at a time when many world leaders are silent in the face of injustice.

Quoting the President’s remarks – “The crimes in Gaza must stop. It doesn’t matter what you call it: if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, well then… it must be a duck” – the LGA noted that his words will “echo for generations to come,” describing them as a fearless indictment of global inaction.

The Association stressed that Ghana, which has historically stood on the side of liberation struggles, Pan-African unity, and global peace, cannot afford to be a “mute spectator to genocide, regardless of which global power stands behind it.”

While acknowledging Minority concerns about Ghana’s traditional neutral stance in international conflicts, the Association argued that neutrality should not mean silence in the face of grave humanitarian crises.

“Speaking out on such issues can enhance our moral authority, as long as it aligns with our commitment to peace and international law,” the statement said.

The LGA also praised former Finace Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, for what it described as balanced and honest commentary on the issue, noting that he showed maturity by recognising President Mahama’s leadership on the global stage while constructively addressing domestic challenges.

The group warned against political “fence-sitters and apologists for colonial masters,” insisting that Ghana’s legacy must remain one of “courage, conviction, and justice.”

It called on civil society organisations, religious bodies, academic institutions, and citizens of conscience worldwide to rise above political affiliations and amplify the message that “the crimes in Gaza must stop.”

“We are proud to have a leader who dares to speak, who dares to stand where others have fallen silent, and who dares to hold the powerful accountable when others cower in fear. President Mahama did not only represent Ghana; he represented humanity.”

The release was jointly signed by Festus Matey, Leader of the Legal Green Association, and Evans Mawunyo Tsikata, Head of Politics and Elections Affairs, LGA.

US Embassy breaks silence after Ablakwa announced reversal of visa restrictions on Ghana

The United States Embassy in Ghana has confirmed the news by the minister The United States Embassy in Ghana has confirmed the news by the minister

The United States Embassy in Ghana has confirmed the full restoration of visa privileges for Ghanaians, hours after the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that the US had rescinded its earlier decision to impose visa restrictions on the country.

In a social media post on September 27, 2025, the US Embassy stated, “The US Embassy is pleased to announce that the maximum validity periods for all categories of non-immigrant visas for Ghanaians have been restored to their previous lengths.

“The maximum validity allowed for the B1/B2 visitor visa is again five years, multiple entry. The maximum validity for the F1 student visa is again four years, multiple entry.”

The announcement follows Okudzeto Ablakwa’s disclosure on September 26, 2025, that the United States had reversed its visa restrictions on Ghana.

The restrictions, imposed in July 2025, limited Ghanaians to a maximum of three-month single-entry visas.

Taking to social media, Ablakwa described the development as a major diplomatic victory for Ghana.

“Big win for Ghana! The US visa restrictions imposed on Ghana have been reversed. Ghanaians can now be eligible for five-year multiple-entry visas and other enhanced consular privileges.

“This good news was directly communicated to me by US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, at a bilateral meeting earlier today, in the margins of the UN General Assembly,” he wrote.

He further noted that months of high-level negotiations had paid off, strengthening relations between the two countries.

“I am really pleased that months of high-level diplomatic negotiations have led to a successful outcome. It is good to see healthier and stronger Ghana–USA relations. For God and Country,” the minister added.

It will be recalled that the United States, citing years of visa overstays by Ghanaian citizens, particularly students, had tightened visa rules in July, restricting issuance to short-term single-entry visas.

Kwesi Pratt’s Submission Wins Hearts — Calls For Ghana To Lead Africa In Global Affairs

0

Veteran journalist and political commentator Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has once again earned praise after delivering a powerful and insightful submission on Ghana’s foreign policy and the broader outlook of Africa’s role in international relations.

Speaking on a panel discussion in Accra, the outspoken managing editor of the Insight Newspaper highlighted the need for Ghana and other African nations to adopt bold, independent, and strategic policies in order to secure respect and progress on the global stage.

Pratt stressed that the era of over-dependence on external powers must come to an end if Africa is to achieve genuine development.

“We cannot continue to blame colonial history while we repeat the same mistakes. If Ghana is serious about becoming a true player in international relations, then we must craft policies that prioritize our own interests first,” Pratt noted.

He further emphasized that foreign aid and external loans have created cycles of dependency that limit Africa’s bargaining power in international trade, peacekeeping, and diplomacy.

His submission, described by many as “brilliant,” touched on:

The need for Africa-centered education that prepares leaders for global competition.

Stronger economic cooperation among African states to reduce reliance on Western donors.

Building mutual respect-based partnerships rather than subservient ones.

Pratt’s perspective has attracted widespread applause on social media and among academics. Many citizens have hailed him for boldly articulating solutions that leaders often shy away from discussing publicly.

Analysts believe his intervention is timely, especially as Ghana faces challenges with debt restructuring, IMF programs, and global diplomatic negotiations.

Pratt concluded by urging policymakers to think beyond partisan politics:

“International relations is not about NPP or NDC. It’s about Ghana and Africa’s place in the world.”

His words have since gone viral, with many calling on the government to take concrete steps to implement some of his suggestions.

US Embassy confirms reversal of visa restrictions on Ghana

0

The United States has officially reversed the recent visa restrictions imposed on Ghanaian nationals, effective immediately.

The U.S. Embassy in Ghana announced the significant policy change via its official X (formerly Twitter) page, confirming the restoration of maximum validity periods for all categories of non-immigrant visas.

This confirms a similar announcement by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa the previous day.

The decision marks a major diplomatic success for the government of Ghana, following months of high-level negotiations aimed at restoring healthier bilateral relations between Accra and Washington.

Specifics of the Reversal: 5-Year Multiple Entry Restored

The key takeaway for Ghanaian citizens is the immediate return to the long-standing, more flexible visa terms that were curtailed earlier this year.

The reversal brings back multiple-entry privileges and extended validity periods, as confirmed in the U.S. Embassy’s post on X:

The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that the maximum validity periods for all categories of non-immigrant visas for Ghanaians have been restored to their previous lengths. The maximum validity allowed for the B1/B2 visitor visa is again five years, multiple entry. The maximum validity for the F1 student visa is again four years, multiple entry.

This restoration means:

  • Business and Tourism (B1/B2 Visas): Ghanaians traveling for short-term business or tourism are once again eligible for a visa with a maximum validity of five years and multiple entries. This simplifies travel for professionals, families, and frequent visitors.
  • Student Visas (F1 Visas): Students pursuing academic programs can now apply for a maximum validity of four years, multiple entry, a crucial provision that prevents the need for annual visa renewals during their studies.

Diplomatic Breakthrough Confirmed by Ablakwa

The “good news” was swiftly acknowledged by Mr Ablakwa, who confirmed the reversal had been communicated during a recent bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In a corresponding post on X, Mr Ablakwa celebrated the development, attributing the policy shift to persistent diplomatic efforts.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s X Post: “The US visa restrictions imposed on Ghana have been officially reversed. This good news was delivered by US officials on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and is the result of months of high-level diplomatic negotiations. Ghanaians can now be eligible for five-year multiple entry visas and other enhanced consular privileges.”

The Minister’s statement suggests that in addition to the restored validity periods, there may be “other enhanced consular privileges” that will be clarified through official channels, further boosting travel and mobility for Ghanaians.

Context: Why the Restrictions Were Imposed

The restrictions, which were implemented in July 2025 and affected Ghanaian applicants (alongside citizens of countries like Cameroon, Ethiopia, and Nigeria), had severely limited most non-immigrant visas to a maximum of three months and a single entry.

U.S. officials had previously cited concerns over high rates of visa overstays among certain applicant groups—particularly students—as the stated basis for the reciprocal policy measures. This move was described as a tool to address irregular immigration patterns and compliance issues.

The reversal brings an end to the restrictive visa terms, which had placed a significant financial and logistical burden on Ghanaian travellers seeking education, business, or family engagements in the United States.

US Restores Long-Term Visas for Ghanaians

Us Visa Update
Us Visa Update

Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says the United States has reinstated five-year multiple-entry visas for Ghanaian citizens. He made the announcement in New York after talks with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker during the UN General Assembly.

The U.S. had cut visa validity in July, limiting most applicants to three-month, single-entry permits. Officials in Washington said the step was driven by high overstay rates, particularly among students.

Ablakwa called the restoration a “welcome outcome” after months of negotiations. The move is expected to ease travel for business, education, and family visits.

American authorities have not yet issued a public confirmation. Some analysts suggest Ghana’s recent agreement to accept deported West African nationals may have influenced the decision, though no official link has been stated.

Cedi Records Fresh Decline As BoG Drops New Exchange Rates For Today Friday 26 September, 2025

0

The Ghanaian cedi has once again slipped against major international currencies, according to the Bank of Ghana’s official daily exchange rates released on Friday, September 26, 2025.

Data from the central bank’s interbank market showed that by the close of trading on Thursday, September 25, the local currency lost value across all major trading pairs.

The decline reflects the ongoing pressure on Ghana’s foreign exchange market, influenced by both global shifts and domestic challenges.

Against the US dollar, the cedi traded at ¢12.3438 for buying and ¢12.3562 for selling. The dollar remains the most closely watched currency in Ghana, given its role as the main reference point for importers and international trade.

The British pound sterling posted even higher values, with buying at ¢16.4815 and selling at ¢16.4992. This deepened the currency’s losses and highlighted the growing disparity between the cedi and stronger foreign currencies.

Similarly, the euro traded at ¢14.4144 for buying and ¢14.4287 for selling. The consistent depreciation across all three currencies underscores the broad weakness of the cedi.

The Bank of Ghana’s official rates serve as benchmarks for commercial banks and businesses engaged in foreign transactions. For importers and consumers, however, the rising cost of foreign exchange brings increased import bills, mounting inflationary pressures, and heightened economic uncertainty.

Economists warn that the latest fall points to unresolved challenges in Ghana’s balance of payments. They stress the importance of policy measures that can strengthen reserves, promote local production, and restore investor confidence in the economy.

If the downward trend continues, both businesses and households may experience more financial strain, making currency stability a key issue for economic managers in the months ahead.

Many girls acquire HIV during first sexual experience – GAC

0

The Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) has revealed that research confirms many adolescent girls in the country contract HIV during their very first sexual experience.

Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Bimbilla, the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regional Technical Coordinator of the GAC, described the situation as alarming and advised sexually active girls to abstain from premarital sex.

He cautioned that those unable to resist sexual urges should at least avoid unprotected sex and multiple partners, emphasizing that total abstinence remains the surest protection against HIV and AIDS.

Mr. Bimbilla gave the advice while addressing a radio clinic and community forum of the Sunyani Adolescent Parliament, an initiative of the Global Media Foundation (GloMeF).

The Adolescent Parliament was established under the “Resilient City for Adolescents (RCA)” project, being implemented by GloMeF in partnership with the Women Empowerment Network and Citizens Watch Ghana, with funding from the Swiss Botnar Foundation. The £300,000 project aims to improve the wellbeing of adolescents.

Mr. Bimbilla noted that although HIV and AIDS remain incurable, the rising desire among adolescents to engage in sexual activity continues to expose them to health risks. Beyond HIV, he warned that sexually transmitted infections (STIs) were also common among young people, urging both boys and girls to protect themselves.

He, however, stressed that hope was not lost for adolescents living with HIV, noting that those infected could be placed on antiretroviral therapy to enable them to live long, healthy lives and achieve their dreams.

Mrs. Joseph Yalley, Bono Regional Officer of the Girls Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service, disclosed that 500 schoolgirls became pregnant in 2023, but the figure dropped to 181 in 2024. She attributed the reduction to intensified sexual education programmes and called for greater community support.

Similarly, Mrs. Felicia Konadu, a Health Promotion Officer at the Bono Regional Directorate of Health, advocated for the creation of adolescent health clubs in basic schools. Such platforms, she explained, would provide young people with accurate information on sexual and reproductive health, helping reduce teenage pregnancies.

Mr. Edward Ayabilah, Programme Manager of GloMeF, added that the RCA project also seeks to strengthen citizen participation in local governance while improving the lives of adolescents.

Confusion as DCE allegedly blocks NPP MP with National Security thugs from commissioning astroturf

Police officers intervened in the chaos and whisked the MP away from the scene for her safety Police officers intervened in the chaos and whisked the MP away from the scene for her safety

Confusion broke out in Atiwa West after the District Chief Executive (DCE) allegedly prevented the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Lawyer Laurette Korkor Asante, from commissioning an Astroturf project she claimed to have lobbied for.

In a video shared on social media by Wontumi Communications, the MP was seen at the site to commission the facility when tensions arose.

Before the programme could begin, a confrontation occurred.

While the MP was addressing the gathering, a man stepped forward, warning her that he had already communicated his decision to her and insisting that she could not proceed with the event.

According to the MP, alleged thugs described by her as “national security operatives” began disrupting the scene, overturning tables and creating chaos.

“It is because of you that in 2022 I lobbied GNPC to build the Astroturf for you people. But the DCE said he won’t allow me to commission the facility, so he has brought national security to beat us here. Before I became MP, I lobbied to get this project done,” Korkor Asante told the crowd.

Police officers, believed to be the MP’s security detail, later intervened and whisked her away from the scene for her safety.

Meanwhile, Wontumi Communications, in a post accompanying the video, claimed, “Member of Parliament for Atiwa West, Korkor Asante, was attacked by NDC thugs who were deployed by the DCE at Kwabeng during the commissioning of an Astroturf.”

Funny Face Regrets Outing With His Children After Video Goes Viral

News Hub Creator1h

Ghanaian comedian and actor, Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Funny Face, has once again found himself at the center of online conversations after what was meant to be a joyful outing with his children turned into an experience he described with regret.

In a video shared online, Funny Face attempted to enjoy some bonding time with his kids, but the moment did not unfold as planned. Instead, it left him visibly uncomfortable, prompting him to admit that the memory will remain etched online forever. “The internet never forgets,” he remarked, highlighting how quickly personal moments can spiral into public scrutiny in the digital age.

The comedian, who has had a turbulent few years with issues surrounding his personal life, co-parenting, and public image, has often used social media as a space to express his emotions and experiences. While his intention was to showcase fatherhood and love for his children, the viral clip has drawn mixed reactions—some sympathizing with his struggles, while others teased him about the awkward outcome.

Despite the setback, many of his fans encouraged him to stay strong and focus on building a positive relationship with his children. The incident serves as yet another reminder of the double-edged nature of social media: moments meant to be private can quickly become public talking points.

Mahama Silent As P.K Sarpong Attacks Him For Saying He Wants a Safe Place For His Daughter

0

President John Mahama’s recent address at the United Nations has drawn sharp criticism at home, with opponents accusing him of hypocrisy in his advocacy for women’s rights.

Speaking at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Mahama made an impassioned plea for a safer and more equitable world for women and girls. Referencing his own daughter, he said: “For the sake of my 18-year-old daughter, Farida, I hope that the future is one where women and girls feel safe and are treated as equals.”

The message was lauded internationally as a powerful reminder of the need for global action on gender equity. At home, however, it has sparked backlash, particularly from political opponents who question the consistency of the President’s stance. P.K. Sarpong, a political commentator aligned with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), publicly criticized the President’s speech. “Is Gertrude Torkornoo not a woman? Didn’t you remove her from office?” he wrote on social media, referencing the controversial dismissal of Ghana’s former Chief Justice earlier this year. His remark, ending with “Karma is a beautiful person,” has since circulated widely online.

Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, one of the few women to serve as Chief Justice in Ghana’s history, was removed under circumstances that continue to stir public debate. While government officials insist the decision was constitutionally sound, many critics view it as politically motivated and damaging to the President’s credibility on issues of gender equality.

Supporters of Mahama have pushed back, defending his UN remarks as a genuine call for change and dismissing the criticism as politically charged. Still, with national elections approaching in 2026, the controversy has amplified existing tensions, raising questions about how domestic actions may undercut the President’s international message.

Ghanaian prophet Apostle Amoako Attah has cautioned the guardians of the little traditional priest who recently led Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in an age-old ritual at the Manhyia Palace.

It was a surreal moment when the young traditional priest, identified as Kwaku Abrante, got the attention of the Asantehene during Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s Dote Yie at Manhyia Palace.

He boldly led the Asante monarch through an age-old ritual. Videos of him during and after the ritual have garnered significant traction on social media.

According to Amoako Attah, the young boy’s viral moment with the Asante monarch appears to have done him more harm than good.

During an interview on Angel FM, the prophet claimed that a tragedy could befall the seven-year-old Kwaku Abrante when he turns nine, going on 12 years.

“Tell the father of that young boy that if he wants to enjoy the benefits of his child, he must keep him under wraps. If I see him falling while performing a ritual. Once he fell, that was it,” Amoako Attah said.

He also emphasised that the kid must stay chaste until he was 19 years old or else a river deity would try to harm him.

Prophet Amoako Atta said he was not against the young traditional priest. However, he just wants him to be protected.

According to him, the self-proclaimed Global Seer claimed that he had a vision, where he saw himself being transported to the deep sea in a boat.

He claimed to have seen an unidentified individual about to dump a Schnapp bottle, which contained Sammy Gyamfi’s photograph, into the deep sea as part of a sinister plot against him.

President Mahama reaffirms Ghana’s commitment to Palestine Statehood and two-state solution

0

John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, addresses the general debate of the General Assembly’s eightieth session.

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to Palestine Statehood and a two-state solution to the Israel/Palestine conflict at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) in New York

Delivering his address at the UNGA80 Session in New York on Thursday, September 25, President Mahama said the denial of visas to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian delegation to the UNGA80 Meeting was a bad precedent that should be deeply worrying to all member nations of the United Nations.

He said Ghana recognized the state of Palestine in 1988 and supported a two-state solution to the conflict since then.

“And I say, contrary to the claims of some, a two-state solution would not be a reward for Hamas,” President Mahama said.

He noted that it would rather be a retreat for the hundreds of thousands of innocent women and children and people who were facing collective punishment and forced starvation for no reason other than the fact that they are Palestinian.

He said for nearly two years and for the fear of reprisals, UN Member States at the General Assembly Meeting had been playing hide-and-seek with language to find the right words to help them avoid or excuse what they all know was taking place in Gaza.

“But here’s the thing. It doesn’t matter what you call it. If it looks like a duck, it swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck. Well, then it must be a duck,” President Mahama said.

“The crimes in Gaza must stop. The crimes in Gaza must stop.”

President Mahama also drew particular attention to the conflict in Sudan, which the world body described as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.

“12 million people have had to flee their homes. And when we speak of migration, we refer to the 12 million new Sudanese refugees, whom we as a global community should be willing to assist in much the same way that many member nations readily assisted new refugees coming out of Ukraine,” he said.

“Let’s dispense with the euphemisms and dog-whistles and speak frankly. It is not a mystery that when leaders of Western nations complain of their migration problems, they are often referring to immigrants from the global south,” he said.

President Mahama asked that but many of those immigrants were climate refugees; adding that interestingly, the global north emits 75 per cent more greenhouse gases than the global south.

He said, however, the effects of climate change were more severe in the global south because they lacked the resources to address them effectively.

“And so when the desert encroaches on our villages and towns and they become unlivable, we are forced to flee.”

He said Warsan Shire, a Somali-British poet born in Kenya to Somalian refugee parents, was London’s first Youth Poet Laureate.

“She writes in her poem titled “Home”. You have to understand that no one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land, No one burns their palms under trains beneath carriages,

No one spends days and nights in the stomach of a truck feeding on newspaper unless the miles travelled means something more than journey,” he said.

“We cannot normalise cruelty. We cannot normalise hatred. We cannot normalise xenophobia and racism. If we are going to tell a story, let’s not tell it slant. Let’s tell all the truth.”

“I’m Not Ready for Marriage – Even If I Do, Otumfuo Must Approve” –23-Year-Old Fetish Priestess Nana

0

Nana Afia Sika, the 23-year-old fetish priestess who gained attention during the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, has opened up about her life, spiritual journey, and deep ties to the Asantehene that she says date back three centuries.

In an exclusive interview with GhPage, Nana Afia Sika revealed that she has been spiritually possessed by the powerful Twedie Akuatia deity since she was four years old. This possession has guided her path, shaping her responsibilities as a custodian of tradition, even though she once dreamed of becoming a musician.

When asked about marriage, the young priestess was candid, stating, “I’m not ready to marry, and even if I decide to, Otumfuo has to be the one to approve.” She explained that her strong spiritual connection to the Asante Kingdom and its history obliges her to seek the Asantehene’s blessing for any major life decision, particularly marriage.

Her remarks have sparked heated discussions on social media, with some lauding her courage and dedication to her spiritual duties, while others criticize her for involving the revered Otumfuo in her personal affairs.

Despite the differing opinions, Nana Afia Sika remains firm that her life is not entirely her own, being guided by the deity she serves. She described her role as both a blessing and a burden, admitting that she sometimes wishes she could live a “normal” life, yet her destiny is inseparably linked to her priestesshood.

Her story sheds light on the delicate balance between tradition, spirituality, and modern identity in Ghana, sparking conversations about how young traditional leaders navigate fame, cultural expectations, and personal desires in contemporary society.

ghana news Illicit drug epidemic growing security concern – E/R Peace Council Chairman sounds alarm

0

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Peace Council, Dr Mark Boadu, has stated that the intake of illicit drugs and alcohol among the youth is no longer a health crisis but a security threat to the country.

He, therefore, called on all, especially relevant stakeholders, to join forces to address the issue before it gets out of hand.

Dr Boadu made the call during the commemoration of this year’s International Peace Day celebration in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, last Thursday.

Act now

The event, on the theme: “Act Now for a Peaceful World: Addressing Youth Substance Abuse as a Pathway to Violence Prevention”, was attended by the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey; the Regional Coordinating Director, Yaw Adu Asamoah, and the Regional Education Director, Dr Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, among other dignitaries.

The Paramount Chief of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III; the Aburihene and Adontenhene of Akuapem, Otoobour Djan Kwasi, and the Nkosouhene of Kwahu Nkwatia, who is also the Eastern Regional Ambassador of the Peace Council, Nana Owiredu Wadie, were also present.

Others were the municipal and district chief executives (MDCEs) of New Juaben South and North, heads of departments and agencies, members of the Regional Peace Council, youth and women groups in the region, students and religious bodies.

Financial burden

Dr Boadu averred that the youth with potential were being lured into illicit drugs and alcohol, and if not checked, would lead to violence in society.

He explained that substance abuse impaired the judgment of the users; as such, they behaved aggressively to engage in physical violence and conflicts.

Dr Boadu also stated that substance abuse created a financial burden, leading the youth to resort to theft, robbery and other crimes just to get money to take care of their addictions.

Substance abuse also fractured the fabric of communities, breeding distrust, fear and insecurity, while destroying the individual’s capacity for learning, productivity and formation of gun and violence groups.

Dr Boadu stressed that Ghanaians must “act now” to shield the youth from such a menace.

The Regional Peace Council Chairman appealed to parents, families, educational institutions, and traditional and religious leaders to act in concert to fight the menace.

Lives destruction

The Eastern Regional Minister, who pointed to conflicts in the country and in other countries displacing millions of people, with the associated harrowing stories, said they were undesirable circumstances that should be dealt with in dispatch.

“This year’s celebration is a reminder for us to come together to promote peace,” Ms Awatey said, stressing that peace was the very foundation upon which every society thrived.

“As we reflect on the significance of peace, we are also reminded of the pressing threats, among which is the increasing menace of youth substance abuse”.

“The abuse of drugs and harmful substances among our young people does not only destroy their potential but also fuels crime, violence and insecurity in our communities,” the Regional Minister stated.

Ms Awatey called on stakeholders to rise to the occasion and speak against violence, hate speech, discrimination, inequalities and substance abuse.

“Peace is not just a vision; it is a call to action that each and every one should answer by promoting understanding, respect and justice in daily lives,” the minister charged.

“When violence threatens, let us defend with dialogue.

When poverty silences voices, let us empower with development,” she added.

Eagle eye

For his part, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, who chaired the event, advised parents and guardians to keep an eagle eye on their children and wards as they were likely to be influenced by their peers during their formative years to get themselves involved in illicit drugs and alcohol.

“As stakeholders, it is imperative to demand that we identify the specific threats to our collective peace and confront them with courage and seriousness,” he stated.

The Eastern Regional Peace Council’s Ambassador, Nana Owiredu Wadie I, urged the youth to choose life and not drug addiction, as they constituted Ghana’s future leaders and protectors of peace.

Viral Post About Ex-President Nana Addo Sparks Online Buzz

0

A trending social media post featuring a composed image of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with the caption, “Do You Miss Him”, has set off a lively wave of online reactions, laying bare the divided sentiments that continue to surround his legacy.

The photo, which shows Akufo-Addo in a calm yet authoritative posture, struck a chord with many Ghanaians, prompting both affectionate and critical responses. For some, the post evoked nostalgia, with users fondly referencing his signature voice, speaking style, and public mannerisms. Others affectionately used nicknames and appellations long associated with him, blending humour with respect as they recalled his time in office.

However, not all reactions were positive. A significant number of commentators pushed back against the question, openly rejecting the idea of “missing” the former president. Their responses ranged from sharp rhetorical questions to satirical remarks, reflecting lingering frustrations tied to his governance record. This critical counter-narrative ensured that the digital debate was not merely about policy, but also about Akufo-Addo’s leadership style, personality, and the symbolic weight he still carries in Ghana’s political memory.

The sharp contrast between nostalgic admiration and pointed skepticism underscores the polarising nature of Akufo-Addo’s legacy. While his supporters see a figure whose presence shaped an era, critics remain firm in questioning the impact of his administration, particularly on issues of economy and governance.

What began as a simple, emotive question has become a mirror of Ghana’s political mood. The discussion demonstrates how digital spaces have become instant arenas for gauging public opinion, where humour, satire, and serious critique blend seamlessly. Above all, it reveals that Akufo-Addo remains a towering figure in the nation’s political conversation, even after leaving office.

IF You Look At My Face And Ask Me What I Bring To The Table, I Know You’re Sènseless

0

A young Ghanaian woman has drawn widespread attention after making a bold statement on self-worth and maturity that has sparked intense debate online. In her words, “If you look at my face and ask me what I bring to the table, I know you’re senseless, you do not think and you are not mature.”

Her comments, which quickly circulated on social media, have been praised by many as a powerful defense of dignity and a sharp critique of shallow perceptions. Supporters argue that her response captures the frustration of women who are constantly undervalued or reduced to appearances. One admirer wrote, “She is speaking for countless women who are tired of being underestimated and dismissed with silly questions.”

The woman later explained that her message was directed at those who fail to appreciate the intelligence, strength, and contributions of women in society. She stressed that respect and maturity should form the basis of human interaction, not stereotypes or assumptions. Her stand has inspired a wave of conversations on respect, confidence, and self-awareness.

Analysts note that her words go beyond personal pride, touching on broader issues of social behavior and gender relations. According to one observer, “Such statements push society to reflect on how women are treated and remind us that real value goes beyond appearances.”

Many online users praised her for showing courage in confronting condescending attitudes directly. “It takes guts to say what many are thinking but afraid to voice out,” one person commented. Others added that her bluntness serves as a reality check, especially in cultures where women’s worth is often questioned.

Though some critics described her tone as harsh, the majority applauded her for standing firm. Her remarks have since become a rallying point for young women who are embracing self-respect and demanding recognition for their true value.

Fuel costs go beyond Black Stars team bus

0

Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director Henry Asante Twum Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director Henry Asante Twum

Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has cleared the air on reports that the fuel component in the Black Stars’ budget is only for the team bus.

He noted that such claims were misleading, stressing that the allocation also covers transportation for referees, match commissioners, and other officials appointed by CAF and FIFA during international matches.

Henry Asante Twum emphasized that these arrangements, which include fuel and car rentals, are a mandatory responsibility of the host nation and not solely expenses for the Black Stars.

“When Black Stars is set to play football first of all there are referees CAF or FIFA appoints them when they reach Ghana from the day they will arrive, picking them from the airport to their hotel to stadium rounds they will make it is all on Ghana. If match commissioner arrives you will give them a car and Land Crusier sometimes the referees you will give them SUV or family car.

“Because these days they can give you four referees and a referee assessor so five you need a car with enough space to ferry them from airport their rounds they will go to town they will go to training and all that,” he told Peace FM as monitored by Ghanasoccernet.com

“If they will stay for four days throughout that four day period you have to make sure their internal rounds is your job.

“If you go and rent a family car at a car rental if you are given the car the tank has been filled if you are going back you have to fill it. Again if you go and rent a car for four days and you charged everyday the cheapest I have seen is 2500 the cheapest 2500 cedis.

“So if you rent it four days it means that you must account for referees, match commissioner four days, referee…four days, the recent game we played now FIFA they have someone called the FIFA data analyst he is also not a citizen here he is from somewhere if he comes and stays for four days you have to give him a car and a hotel before you come to you your home team us for your movement.

“So that component of the budget it is not Black Stars bus it is unfortunate it was described as team bus but it is transportation for officials from the beginning of preparation till the end of the preparation,”

MTN MoMoFest Storms Kumasi with Sarkodie’s Rapperholic Concert

0

MobileMoney Limited, a subsidiary of MTN Ghana, is set to thrill customers in Kumasi as the MoMo Festival (MoMoFest) makes its stop at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium tomorrow with an electrifying Rapperholic Concert headlined by award-winning rapper Sarkodie.

The MoMo Festival, which has been running in different parts of the country, is designed to deepen financial inclusion, raise awareness about MoMo fraud prevention, and showcase how mobile money can make everyday transactions easier and more rewarding.

Alfred Hammond, SeniorManager, Fintech Marketing, MobileMoney LTD explained that MoMoFest is more than just an entertainment event. He said MoMoFest is a movement to make financial services accessible, relatable, and rewarding for all, while educating the public on how to stay safe from fraudsters.

Tomorrow’s event features a Cashless Market and Fair where over 50 vendors will offer goods and services to patrons who can conveniently pay with MoMo. There will also be fun activities including the MoMo Keteke, drama performances, a game show, and the grand Artiste Night in partnership with Sarkcess Music. In Kumasi, the climax will be the Rapperholic concert, which promises an exciting line-up of artistes to entertain patrons.

Entry to the cashless fair is free, and all that is required is for customers to download the MoMo app. For the Rapperholic concert, tickets can be secured by referring friends through the app. Customers who refer five friends will receive two regular tickets, while those who refer twenty friends will receive two VIP tickets. MTN has also arranged transportation for 100 winners from Accra to join the event in Kumasi.

Mr. Hammond reminded the public to stay alert during the festive period by observing the three golden rules of MoMo: never disclose your PIN, never allow strangers to transact on your behalf, and remember that official MTN/MoMo calls only come from 0244300000. He cautioned customers against falling for scams such as MoMo Capital investment offers, stressing that details of all legitimate MTN promotions and activities can be confirmed on the official social media handles. A trader has been put before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly sexually exploiting and harbouring a 17-year-old female for over one year.

Cesar Victoire Tsala, 55, is alleged to have promised the victim of securing her a football team but ended up subjecting her to sexual bouts.

Tsala, a Cameroonian, is facing charges of human trafficking, abduction of unmarried female under 18 and Raping a female aged 17.

The court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah could not take his plea because the accused person chose that his plea should be taken in French.

According to him, he was fluent in French.

However, there was no French interpreter available hence the court adjourned the matter to September 29, 2025, by which time arrangement would have been made to get a french interpreter.

Tsala is alleged to have abducted the victim who was writing her West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the year 2024 from Spintex- Accra for a year and her whereabouts was unknown to the family.

On September 12, 2025, the victim, a Nigerian, managed to flee from the suspect and lodged a report that she was forcefully transported to Kasoa and subsequently to East Legon where she was sexually abused by Tsala.

Tsala is said to have lured and abducted the victim under the pretext of protecting and providing her with basic necessities, teaching her French language and securing her a football team to join but failed.

Energy minister cuts sod for 1MW solar plant at Dawhenya

John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Energy and Green Transition, has cut the sod for the construction of a 1MW solar power plant at the Dawhenya Irrigation Scheme in the Greater Accra Region to boost agricultural production.

The project forms part of the Korean Government–funded Water-Energy-Food Nexus Project (WEFP), being implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition (MoEn&GT) in collaboration with the Korean Association of Machinery Industry (KOAMI).

Other partners are the Ministry of Finance, Energy Commission, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

Speaking at the ceremony on Friday, Jinapor described the initiative as “a foundation for innovation, sustainability, and prosperity for generations to come,” stressing its role in addressing the twin challenges of energy transition and food security.

“Without clean, affordable, and reliable energy, irrigation systems cannot function; without water, we cannot grow food; and without food, our people cannot thrive,” he said.

The Minister said the plant would provide reliable power for irrigation, reduce dependence on costly diesel generators, and boost rice production and food security in Dawhenya and beyond.

It would also lower greenhouse gas emissions in line with Ghana’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and create green jobs for youth and women in agriculture and renewable energy.

The project, estimated at $5 million, covers construction, training of MoEn&GT staff on operation and management of the plant, and other technical assistance.

It is expected to be completed within eight to twelve months.

Jinapor observed that Ghana’s dependence on rain-fed agriculture remained a major setback.

While South Korea had irrigated over 800,000 hectares and partially irrigated 200,000 hectares of farmland as far back as 2009, Ghana irrigates only about three per cent of its cultivated land, despite irrigation potential of between 360,000 and 1.9 million hectares.

He noted that food inflation had been a key driver of Ghana’s overall 23.8 per cent consumer price inflation in 2024, citing rising costs of staples such as rice, yam, and tomato.

The Minister outlined government’s target of bringing more than one million hectares under irrigation in the next five years, beginning with the deployment of 400 solar water pumps in 2026, and scaling up to 3,500 pumps by 2028 to irrigate about 400,000 hectares.

He assured that the Ministry was working with the Ministry of Finance to secure tax exemptions on imported materials and equipment for the plant and urged the Renewable Energy and Green Transition Directorate to ensure timely completion.

The minister appealed to farmers and residents of Dawhenya to take ownership of the facility and safeguard it, adding that encroached irrigation lands must be reclaimed for their intended agricultural use.

Madam Kim Hyunjoo, Second Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, said the project was more than just a source of clean energy, stressing its direct link to both Ghana’s “Feed Ghana” Programme and Korea’s “K-Rice Belt” initiative.

She commended the collaboration between Ghanaian institutions and Korean agencies, including KIAT, KOAMI, KOPIA, and the Korea Rural Community Corporation, noting that their joint efforts were deepening bilateral relations.

Kyu Young Hwang, President and Chief Executive Officer of Kunhwa Engineering and Consulting Co. Ltd, said his company was proud to be part of the milestone initiative, which he described as both historic and transformative.

He explained that since the launch of the MW Solar Power Project in 2023, under the “Construction of Energy Infrastructure for Rural Development in Ghana” programme, Kunhwa had faced many challenges.

However, the company successfully completed the design phase in 2024 in close cooperation with relevant Ghanaian agencies, including the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, ECG, and the Energy Commission.

Kotoko eye qualification as they face Kwara United in CAF Confederation Cup return leg

Asante Kotoko head into Sunday’s decisive CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round second leg against Kwara United in Abeokuta with a slender 4-3 advantage from the first leg in Accra.

The Porcupine Warriors produced an attacking masterclass at the Accra Sports Stadium last week, with Albert Amoah netting twice in a thrilling contest. Though Kwara United managed three away goals, Kotoko’s victory showed their pedigree and attacking sharpness on the continental stage.

Coach Karim Zito’s men know the job is far from finished.

Defensive lapses proved costly in the first leg, but the Ghanaian giants remain confident of completing the assignment away from home.

With Amoah in fine form and the likes of Emmanuel Antwi pulling the strings in midfield, Kotoko will look to combine efficiency at the back with clinical finishing upfront.

Kwara United, playing away from their traditional base due to renovations at the Rashid Yekini Sports Complex, have moved the tie to Abeokuta and announced free entry to attract fans.

But Kotoko will draw on their rich continental experience to stay composed and push through the pressure.

Victory on Sunday September 28, 2025, will send the Porcupine Warriors into the next round, where Moroccan powerhouse Wydad AC await. For Kotoko, it is a chance to reaffirm their continental ambitions and continue their quest for glory.

Hohoe Municipal Assembly spends over GH₵27,000 on DRIP servicing, repairs

Prosper Kumi, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has disclosed that the Assembly spent GH₵27,398.05 on servicing and repair works on the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines.

He explained that the DRIP initiative was designed to equip Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with modern machinery and technical training to enhance their road maintenance and construction capacity.

Addressing the media on projects and activities within the review period, Kumi said the Assembly took delivery of several DRIP machines on his assumption of office.

These included three concrete mixers, a pail loader, a tipper truck, a water tanker, a motor grader, a roller compactor, and a backhoe loader.

Except for the motor grader, all machines were certified roadworthy. He noted, however, that growing complaints from communities about deteriorating roads necessitated urgent servicing. As a result, the Assembly engaged JA Plant Pool Ghana Ltd. to repair and service the motor grader and backhoe loader in July and August 2025.

The servicing costs included GH₵19,003.65 for changing the motor grader’s cutting blade and general servicing, GH₵5,011.65 for replacing its hydraulic seal, and GH₵3,383.20 for servicing the backhoe loader.

Kumi said the machines had since been deployed to reshape 5.10km of road networks, supported with 56 trips of gravel valued at GH₵5,600. Additionally, operator allowances for July to September amounted to GH₵25,500.

He said GH₵14,100 was spent on shaping and gravelling works at the UHAS Campus, during the Regional Minister’s visit, and at the Franco Campus during the COESA Games. Fuel expenses for road shaping from May 14 to September 9, 2025, stood at GH₵93,102.88, bringing the grand total on DRIP to GH₵165,700.

The MCE assured residents that roads from Wli through Likpe to Hohoe, Hohoe township roads, and the Alavanyo stretch would soon be awarded for construction.

“We are committed to ensuring that the face of our inner roads will significantly improve, enhancing mobility, business, and social interaction,” he stressed.

Kumi also announced measures under consideration to reduce traffic congestion, including making entries to the main station, market, and Hohoe Regional Hospital one-way routes on designated days.

He added that under the Big PUSH agenda, contractors were already on site along parts of the Eastern Corridor and Fodome roads, which would improve access to major trading centres in the Volta and Oti regions.

The Assembly, he said, also intended to retool its Parks and Gardens Department using internally generated funds (IGF) to redevelop parks within the Municipality.

I would love to have a wedding like that – MzGee gushes over Mr Eazi and Temi Otedola’s wedding

MzGee is a popular broadcaster MzGee is a popular broadcaster

Ghanaian broadcaster MzGee has expressed her admiration for the fairytale wedding of Nigerian singer Mr Eazi and actress Temi Otedola, describing it as the kind of glamorous celebration anyone would dream of.

On her Gee O’clock show, MzGee could not hide her excitement over the opulent three-part ceremony.

“What a perfect marriage ceremony it was. Who wouldn’t like to marry in three different places with family and friends, billionaires around, and people already picking bills for your first baby? I would definitely love to have something like that,” she said with laughter.

The couple’s wedding unfolded across three countries in 2025. On May 9, they exchanged vows in Monaco, a date chosen to honor Mr Eazi’s late mother’s birthday, with the Otedolas hosting the event in their family home.

In July, a traditional Yoruba wedding was held at their residence in Dubai, followed by a lavish backyard reception adorned with thousands of lanterns and chandeliers, capped off with a shisha lounge after-party.

The finale came in Iceland, Temi’s favorite place on earth, where she wore a Fendi Haute Couture gown to walk down the aisle at Reykjavik’s iconic Hallgrimskirkja church.

The celebrations began with a rehearsal dinner at the Harpa Opera House, before guests witnessed the dreamy ceremony the next day.

For MzGee, the wedding was not only a spectacle but also a joyful reminder of what it means to celebrate love in style.

“If wishes were horses, I’d love to have something like that too,” she said, with a sparkle of admiration in her voice.

The man who fired indiscriminately while the Ghana Service personnel were busily dousing an August 3, fire outbreak at Madina Redco has been granted bail.

Mustapha Iddrisu Danlad was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with three sureties who are to be residents within the jurisdiction of the court.

The court ordered that one of the sureties should be justified with a land title deed not less than GH¢50,000.

The court further ordered Danlad to report to the Madina Police every Wednesday.

Prosecution was also ordered to file their disclosures by October 23, 2025.

The substantive case has been adjourned to October 24, 2025.

Danlad was granted bail after the Police had verified and confirmed his fixed abode at Redco Flats in Accra.

Due to Danlad’s action, six persons were said to have been hit by the pellets from his pump action gun.

Danlad has been charged with discharge of firearms without authority, possession of firearms without authority, and three counts of causing harm.

Accused, who claims to be a Task Force Officer with EOCO, pleaded not guilty.

Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Daniel Danku earlier on narrated that the complainant in the case was the Madina Divisional Police Command.

Prosecution said on August 3, 2025, at about 1300 hours, Officers from the Madina Police Command responded to a fire outbreak at Redco Flats, Madina.

According to the prosecution, while police officers were assisting the Fire Service personnel to douse the fire, a misunderstanding ensued between the accused and a group of people.

The court heard that soon after tempers were calmed down, Danlad left the scene and returned with a pump action gun and without any provocation, the accused persons started firing indiscriminately.

Due to the firing, people started running helter skelter.

The prosecutor said while people were running from the fire outbreak, the accused was busily firing towards the people and in the process six people were hit by the pellets from the pump action gun.

Prosecution said the victims were rushed to the hospital where some were treated and discharged and others were referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

According to the prosecutor, Danlad after the act went into hiding. On September 12 at about 0500 hours, Danlad was spotted at Madina Redco and he was picked up by the Police.

Danlad in his investigation caution statement admitted the offence.

Foster Wumbei Jagri, the Bono East Regional Operations Manager of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has advised unemployed young people in the region to visit the office for job opportunities.

He said the Agency’s models were designed to create employment opportunities for the youth, assuring that those who leverage on that would fetch themselves decent jobs and enhance their socio-economic livelihoods.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman, Jagri said several opportunities abounded for the young people interested in the employable skills training, agriculture, forestry and sanitation sectors.

He said the Agency in the region had just activated the “Job Abroad” model that recruited and exported the youth with employable skills to work abroad.

Jagri said the Agency had recruited and trained the first batch of the police, National Ambulance Emergency Unit and Fire Assistants who would soon be deployed to their respective stations.

He emphasised that the YEA remained committed to deliver its mandate of creating decent job opportunities for the youth and urged the teeming unemployed youth in the region to capitalize on their models too.

Jagri said the Agency would roll out additional models to absorb more young people in tackling the nation’s unemployment situation and also enable them to contribute meaningfully to national development.

More than just fun, transforming Ghana’s guture: The National Recreation and Wellness Programme

0

Did you know? Ghana is facing a significant health crisis driven by lifestyle-related diseases. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease now account for nearly 45% of all deaths in the country (WHO, 2022).

Adding to this challenge are over 50,000 drug abuse cases, with about 35,000 involving young people aged 12–35. Sedentary lifestyles and the lack of safe, inclusive recreational spaces are major contributors to these issues.

Shockingly, only 20% of Ghanaian adults meet the World Health Organization’s recommended physical activity levels, and less than 15% of schoolchildren engage in regular structured exercise.

These trends threaten not only the health of individuals but also the socio-economic stability of the nation. Lifestyle diseases are silently draining the national health budget and cutting short the lives of Ghana’s most productive citizens. The rise in NCDs presents a dual health and economic crisis—but it also offers an opportunity for transformation.

Recreation: More Than Just Fun

Recreation is often seen as leisure, but its benefits extend far beyond entertainment. It is a vital tool for preventive health, youth empowerment, rehabilitation, wellness, and nation-building.

Just 30 minutes of daily moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) can reduce the risk of NCDs by 40%. Moreover, children involved in school sports are 50% more likely to excel academically and avoid risky behaviours (UNICEF, 2021).

At the community level, recreation fosters social bonds, reduces crime, and promotes peace and inclusion.

The Government’s Response: Introducing NARWEP

To address these pressing challenges, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, under the leadership of Kofi Iddie Adams, is launching the National Recreation and Wellness Programme (NARWEP). This innovative initiative seeks to embed recreation and wellness into the fabric of everyday Ghanaian life by:

  • making physical activity and wellness part of daily routines;
  • strengthening school sports as platforms for fitness, talent discovery, and essential life skills; and
  • using community-based recreation to promote peace, inclusion, and cultural pride.

Aligning with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of placing recreation at the heart of national development, NARWEP complements ongoing efforts in health, education, and social cohesion. It is designed to build a healthier, stronger, and more productive Ghana.

Why Recreation and Wellness Are Critical

Ghana loses billions of cedis annually to the treatment of lifestyle-related diseases. The economic burden of NCDs is staggering, and inactivity has become a silent epidemic. With less than one in five adults and one in seven children meeting recommended activity levels, the nation faces wide-ranging implications.

NARWEP is not just a sports initiative; it is a strategic social investment. Its benefits cut across sectors by:

  • reducing NCD prevalence and promoting preventive health in healthcare;
  • enhancing academic performance and student engagement in education;
  • providing pathways for talent development, skills, and employment in youth empowerment; and
  • cultivating a healthier population as part of national development.

Seizing the Opportunity

Investing in recreation is cost-effective. Every dollar spent on promoting active lifestyles can save three dollars in future healthcare costs (WHO, 2019). Recreational activities also contribute to safer communities by reducing crime and substance abuse while fostering inclusivity for women, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.

Focus Areas of NARWEP

NARWEP is built around four interconnected pillars:

  1. Active Recreation – promoting community participation through wellness walks, aerobics, indigenous games, and informal play to improve cardiovascular health, mental well-being, and community bonds.
  2. Wellness – introducing health screenings, nutrition education, and inclusive therapeutic activities that restore dignity, promote recovery, and foster social inclusion.
  3. School Recreation – strengthening physical education, inter-school competitions, and recreational festivals to build discipline, teamwork, and leadership among students.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement – involving citizens in embracing active lifestyles; schools in prioritising recreation and sports; businesses and corporate entities in supporting through sponsorships and wellness programmes; development partners and civil society in expanding reach; and traditional and religious leaders in mobilising communities.

A Call to Action

Recreation and wellness are investments in Ghana’s future—not luxuries. By supporting NARWEP, we choose prevention over cure, inclusion over exclusion, and health over illness.

Together, we can make Ghana a nation that moves, plays, and thrives.

Let us walk, play, and build a healthier Ghana. The time to act is now.

Political influence fueling illegal electricity metering – ECG boss

0

The Acting Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Julius Kpekpena, has accused some Members of Parliament (MPs), District Chief Executives (DCEs), and Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) of facilitating the installation of illegal electricity meters in their constituencies.

Speaking at a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Energy on Friday, September 26, 2025, he touched on the financial impact of these illegal connections.

ECG cancels over 200 questionable contracts

“Some of the meters we encounter in our network that have not come through us, they don’t record anything; they are not proper meters. So, when you put them there, they exist but ECG cannot read the meters. The meters are not measuring, so we cannot read the consumption, and we cannot bill it.

“So, we face two problems. First, we don’t have you in our records, so we cannot bill you. The second problem is that we cannot even track the power you are using. Unfortunately, many of the facilitators are friends in Parliament, assemblymen, and DCEs. We need your cooperation to curb the proliferation of illegal meters,” he noted.

He also commented on the company’s recent cancellation of contracts as part of its wider reform program.

ECG records highest-ever monthly revenue

“We have terminated over 200 contracts that were deemed non-performing or unnecessary,” he added.

Position Ghana’s brand for unprecedented growth – Chief of Staff tells marketers

0

The government has described the marketing profession as a critical driver of Ghana’s development, describing marketers as the “custodians of our national narrative” and “architects of our economic future.”

This comment came from the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, in a speech read on his behalf by Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah at the 36th Annual National Marketing Performance Awards of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG).

The awards ceremony, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel, was themed “Repositioning Brand Ghana: Marketing for Economic Growth and Transformation.”

In his address, the Chief of Staff emphasized that in an interconnected world, a nation’s brand is its most valuable asset.

He stressed that the success of Ghana’s journey towards sustainable prosperity hinges on how effectively its unique value propositions are marketed to both domestic and international audiences.

“Your work transcends traditional marketing as you are the storytellers who shape how the world perceives Ghana, the strategies that position our industries for global competitiveness, and the innovators who drive our economic transformation agenda.”

He congratulated the CIMG for its “exemplary leadership,” recognizing that the strategies employed by professional marketers are essential for attracting investment, tourists, and promoting national development.

The Chief of Staff clearly linked the marketing profession’s role to the core of President John Dramani Mahama’s research agenda for national development.

The agenda, which calls for a bold reorientation of the economy, is anchored on key pillars:

  • Industrialization
  • Job Creation
  • Export-Led Growth
  • Full Harnessing of Ghana’s Human and Natural Capital

Mr. Debrah noted that this national vision challenges every sector, especially marketing, “to rethink strategies, realign priorities and champion the kind of innovation that will reposition Ghana not just as a participant, but as a leader in economic renaissance.”

He cited various sectors requiring strategic marketing to unlock their potential, from the thriving agricultural sector to the emerging FinTech ecosystem, and from the nation’s rich cultural heritage to its stable democratic governance.

The government affirmed that through the expertise of the CIMG and its members, Ghana is marketing a vision far beyond selling mere products.

“We are marketing a vision for Ghana as a preferred investment destination, a hub for innovation, a beacon of democracy, and a gateway to the African markets,” the Chief of Staff conveyed.

He specifically lauded the profession’s direct contributions to job creation, export growth, and economic diversification through successful campaigns that attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and showcase Ghana’s readiness for the digital economy.

In closing, the Chief of Staff challenged the award winners and nominees to continue their innovative work.

“I challenge you to continue pushing boundaries, embracing innovation and leveraging emerging technologies to position brand Ghana for an unprecedented growth. Together, we shall build a Ghana that is not only beyond aid, but also a model for Africa prosperity and transformation.”

The government reiterated its commitment to supporting the profession through policy reforms, digital infrastructure development, and support for creative industries.

Prominent international businesswoman files defamation suit against online publishers

A respected international businesswoman, Ms. Niharika Handa, has filed a defamation lawsuit in Ghana’s High Court against online publishers alleged to have circulated false and malicious claims about her and her son, Mr. Punar Vasu Handa.

The lawsuit, filed through her legal counsel, Sory & Partners @ Law, seeks GH¢5 million in damages, a mandatory retraction and apology, as well as a perpetual injunction restraining the further publication of defamatory material.

Ms. Handa, who has significant business interests in hospitality, telecommunications, and real estate, previously served as Managing Director of a leading hospitality management company, overseeing projects for major global hospitality brands.

She also serves as a board member of an international resort company with operations across 25 countries.

In a statement following the legal action, Ms. Handa emphasised that the case is not only about safeguarding her personal reputation but also about protecting the integrity of journalism in Ghana.

“This action is not only about protecting my reputation, but also about upholding accountability in journalism. False publications harm not just individuals but also the confidence of international investors who view Ghana as a trusted destination for business,” she stated.

The defendants have been served and are required to respond within eight days. The case will be heard before the High Court of Justice in Accra.

Alongside the court filing, Ms. Handa issued an official statement, describing the allegations as “completely untrue and intended only to damage our reputation.” She reaffirmed her confidence in Ghana’s judicial system to uncover the truth.

She further urged the media and the public to act responsibly in their reporting and discussions.

“I respectfully urge the public and media to avoid spreading unverified claims that only perpetuate harm. My family and I stand firm in truth and integrity,” she said.

The matter has already sparked conversation within media and business circles, given its potential implications for press accountability and Ghana’s investment climate.
