The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced that Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has successfully completed repairs on the pump at the Kpeve Headworks.
Water production resumed at approximately 6:52 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
In a statement issued on February 8, the PURC indicated that due to dried pipelines, it would take an average of 5 to 6 hours for consumers to start receiving water.
The Commission urged consumers to remain patient as the distribution team works to restore supply to all affected areas.

DCOP Lydia Donkor has pledged that security measures at match venues will be “standardized” as part of measures to halt hooliganism.
Her remarks follow the stabbing to death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, during the Porcupine Warriors’ Matchday 19 game against Nsoatreman FC in Nsoatre.
The fatal incident led to the suspension of the Matchday 20 games of the Ghanaian topflight as part of the measures to bring an end to such acts.
Since then, Asante Kotoko has also withdrawn from the competition “until justice is served.”
“We are looking into all of these things [concerns at various stadia], and hopefully, going forward, things are going to be more standardized,” DCOP Lydia, who is the chairperson of the security committee of the GFA, told Joy Sports.
“In our football space, we do not have stewards as a standard form of security, adding to what the police are doing.
“We are looking at that, encouraging clubs and all of the people involved in football to start formalizing and looking at the issue of stewards so that those numbers complement what the police provide.”
The resumption date for the Premier League is yet to be communicated by the country’s football governing body.
Meanwhile, six arrests have been made, including Nsoatreman FC bankroller Ignatius Baffour-Awuah.
For lack of knowledge, my people perish (Hosea 4:6), the Holy Bible declares. Similarly, King Jehosaphat reassured his people, “Believe in Jehovah your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper” (2 Chronicles 20:20).
In Ghana’s 2024 elections, political brands like the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) seemingly took these lessons to heart, strategically aligning themselves with prophets and leveraging prophecies in their branding practices.
Indeed, some prophets have become intrinsically linked to particular political brands. This provides those brands with significant awareness and cultivates powerful “Brand Ambassadorial” partnerships. Given these prophets’ substantial followings, prophecies favoring either the NDC or NPP often lead church members to follow suit and vote accordingly.
This dynamic was evident when then-Vice President Dr. Bawumia visited Prophet Adom Kyei Duah shortly after H.E. John Mahama (then in opposition) paid a courtesy call at the prophet’s church. Both sought divine favor and, perhaps more strategically, to expose their brands to the prophet’s large congregation during the crucial 2024 election cycle.
Effective political branding hinges on reaching the masses, engaging key influencers, and projecting a charismatic leader with a significant following. Prophets, as representatives of God through whom He speaks and directs, naturally fill this role.
Political brands increasingly weave prophecies into their branding strategies, particularly through social media engagement, to outmaneuver opponents and garner voter acceptance.
The use of prophecies can be seen as a form of political brand endorsement akin to celebrity endorsements. Consider Nana Ama McBrown – a celebrity who endorses multiple brands in Ghana.
Her high social status and massive following translate into an appeal for the endorsed brands among her fans and followers. Similarly, political brands capitalize on prophets and their prophecies to attract larger audiences. This may partly explain the NDC’s success in attracting votes from certain congregations.
The shift in the allegiance of Prophet Owusu Bempah – once a staunch supporter of the NPP – from Dr. Bawumia to H.E. John Mahama (reportedly based on divine mandate) undoubtedly had a significant impact on the 2024 election outcome. A similar fate befell King Saul when God’s spirit departed from him, and Prophet Samuel was tasked with anointing David as the next King of Israel (1 Samuel 16).
Therefore, political brands seeking to regain or retain power should strategically embrace prophecies from renowned prophets to further boost brand awareness, attract voters from opposing parties, solidify their base, and expand their voter base. Political branding is no longer limited to colors and emblems; prophets, wielding divine authority, can evoke profound “brand resonance” – the highest level of voter affinity and loyalty.
So, should political brands engage in prophecies? History provides some precedent.
Judges 13 recounts that the birth of Samson, a significant figure in the Bible, was revealed by an Angel of the Lord to his mother, outlining God’s purpose for him to lead and liberate the Israelites from the Philistines.
Similarly, 1 Samuel 8 details how, when the Israelites requested a King, Prophet Samuel inquired of the Lord, who revealed the characteristics and demands of the King. The people accepted this divinely-guided framework. Even in the New Testament, after Judas Iscariot’s death, the Apostles prayed to God and cast lots to elect Matthias against Barnabbas.
Former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey
Former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey, has alluded that the lack of consultation in managing the 2024 campaign of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may have contributed to the party’s defeat.
According to Okraku Mantey, the party failed to do due diligence and ended up using a profane song as part of their campaign, which did not augur well for the brand of the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“Do you know that the song we were playing,’sisifia’, is profane? It is profane. This party has people like me, George Quaye, those of us in the music industry. Take me as an example; nobody will consult you on music. Then we take a profane song for someone like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, look at his brand, then we as a party will ask Dr. Bawumia to dance to it…” he stated in an interview on Peace FM.
“Makoma” by award-winning musician King Paluta was a key feature of the NPP’s campaign ahead of the December 7, 2024, elections.
The party’s flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, during his campaign tour, was captured on several platforms dancing to the popular song, which, according to some critics, contains explicit lyrics.
The NPP lost both the presidential and parliamentary elections to the National Democratic Congress.

Chairperson of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Security Committee, DCOP Lydia Donkor, has disclosed that the stabbing incident which led to the death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, did not occur within the premises of Nana Koramansah II Park as widely believed.
According to the senior officer of the Ghana Police Service, the evidence gathered, including from the scene as part of the ongoing investigation, shows that the late Asante Kotoko fan was stabbed outside of the home grounds of Nsoatreman FC.
“We had to go and investigate; we’ve been to the ground and gathered our evidence and everything. So it’s important to make that distinction that the unfortunate stabbing did not happen inside the stadium, although it’s related to football activity,” She told Joy FM.
DCOP Donkor explained that the stabbing incident occurred outside the stadium; however, the rider of a tricycle picked up the deceased and dropped him at the stadium with the belief of getting him medical attention.
“No, it didn’t happen inside the stadium, and I have to say this because there are all kinds of sayings. People are saying how did the police allow someone to come into the stadium with a knife, and let me mention that the police have a strict search regime.
“At least that is something that I speak with my various commanders about, and we insist, and we do it. There is a strict search regime; when you are entering the stadium, we search everybody who is coming in, and this unfortunate incident didn’t happen inside the stadium.
“It was outside, and after he had been stabbed, he was picked up by a driver in this vehicle they call aboboyaa or something, a tricycle, and dropped him at that section of the stadium. I believe that he did that because he knew that the ambulance was at that side,” she explained.
Pooley tragically lost his life during a violent clash between fans at the Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman and Asante Kotoko on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Nana Konamansah Park.
The Ghana Police Service has since announced the arrest of multiple suspects, including the owner of Nsoatreman FC, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, who has since been granted bail.

Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi
New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, has explained that the actions of the Minority Caucus, which contributed to the chaos during a sitting of the Appointments Committee, were in the interest of Ghana’s democracy.
Addressing an event in his constituency in a video shared by Citi FM, the MP said the actions of his caucus were to help correct the notion that politicians are hypocrites.
“There is too much hypocrisy in the system, and that is becoming a problem, and politicians have become somehow victims of hypocrisy. That is one thing I think you don’t know; people will think that politicians are fighting on TV. No, we are not fighting; we are protecting democracy. We were not fighting,” he said.
Confusion rocked Parliament’s Appointments Committee sitting on the night of Thursday, January 30, 2025, when members of the Minority and Majority caucuses clashed over the vetting of Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health-designate, and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, designated for Foreign Affairs.
The disagreement began after 11 p.m. when the vetting of the nominee for Transport, Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, had been concluded. The ensuing confusion led to the destruction of properties in the committee room.
However, according to the MP for New Juaben South, his caucus acted to prevent the Majority from forcing through the vetting of some ministerial nominees to avoid scrutiny by the Minority.
“We were told by the conclave that we were going to vet only three people at the meeting. Then they said we should add one more, so we agreed on four. So when we entered the vetting room, we were going to vet four people; after vetting four, the chairman called our caucus head that let’s add one more, and he said okay, and we added one to be five.
“After the fifth one, they said, let’s add one more, and we said, okay, we will do that. Then, when we were about to finish the sixth one, we saw that they had paraded about six more ministers that we should vet them. It was around 10:30, very late, and because we were few, we had only seven members of the caucus there; the only way out was for us to leave.
Note, if we had left, people wouldn’t have known Okudzeto Ablakwa well because they were going to vet him that night, so all the questions we asked, we wouldn’t have had the opportunity to ask him that question in the morning. So, the only way out was for us to stay and make the place ungovernable. Because if we exit, they will go ahead because they had a quorum, they had the numbers. So we had to stay and make sure that they don’t do it,” he stated.
He, however, apologised to his constituents while asking for their understanding of the actions of his caucus.
“So understand us; I apologise unreservedly,” he added.

The Saturday, February 8, 2025, edition of UTV’s United Showbiz programme is live with Empress Gifty discharging her duties as host.
Today’s edition of the entertainment show will see panelists discussing the major entertainment issues of the week.
Guests for the show are gospel musician Diana Hamilton and highlife sensation Kwabena Kwabena.
Industry players, including Ola Michael, MC Yaa Yeboah, Nana Romeo, and Bullgod, are also on the bill to bring some nuance to the conversations about the respective issues.
The ongoing water shortage in the Ho municipality and its surrounding areas in the Volta Region is having a severe impact on education, as students are reporting to school late due to the crisis.
Speaking to some students within the municipality, they described the situation as unfortunate and critical.
Many explained that they are forced to walk long distances in search of water or spend hours in queues before securing enough for bathing.
In some cases, they are unable to find water at all, leading to them attending school without bathing or even missing school altogether.
Students are appealing to the government, stakeholders, and the Ghana Water Company Limited to urgently address the situation.
Meanwhile, teachers have also expressed their concerns, stating that the water crisis is affecting their daily activities.
Some revealed that they struggle to find water for basic needs, making their work even more challenging.
Teachers and students alike are calling for immediate intervention to resolve the issue and restore normalcy to academic activities in the municipality.
“Is there a record label here in Ghana?” Kwabena Kwabena asked rhetorically.
He had been asked by Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z if he was interested in signing with any local record label.
While labels like Lynx Entertainment, Highly Spiritual, and Rufftown Records were being mentioned, he had a belly laugh.
“No, no, no. I’m sorry, there’s no record label in Ghana,” the highlife star insisted.
While the cited record labels have scouted, mentored, and groomed stars like MzVee, Kuami Eugene, and KiDi (Lynx); Kurl Songx and Mr Drew (Highly Spiritual); and Ebony and Wendy Shay (Rufftown Records), among others, none has yet broken the glass ceiling and successfully given a local act global recognition.
Most of Ghana’s most successful acts with international accolades are independent artists, like Sarkodie (with two BET awards), Samini (MOBO award), and Shatta Wale (with six IRAWMA trophies).
Others are managed by a combination of local and international labels, like Stonebwoy (self-established Burniton Music Group and Def Jam Recordings); Black Sherif (RBA and EMPIRE); King Promise (Legacy Life Entertainment and Sony); and KiDi (Lynx Entertainment and EMPIRE).
Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh
Mr. Abraham Koomson, Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), has called for the immediate arrest of the Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, following a viral video in which Annoh-Dompreh allegedly incited supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) against members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ablekuma North Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.
In the video, Annoh-Dompreh was heard urging NPP members to confront NDC supporters, stating, “If you’re an NPP member and you find an NDC supporter fighting a fellow NPP member, help the NPP member to beat up the NDC supporter.”
This statement has sparked significant controversy and concern over potential political violence.
Koomson emphasized the need for law enforcement agencies, including the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), the Ghana Police Service, and National Security, to take swift action against Annoh-Dompreh to prevent further unrest.
“I am calling on the law enforcement agencies to hold Annoh-Dompreh accountable. I urge the National Investigation Bureau, the Ghana Police Service, and National Security to step in and question him. What did he mean by saying that NPP supporters should attack NDC supporters? How can an Honourable Member of Parliament make such a reckless statement?” Koomson asserted.
He further warned that failure to address such incitement could set a dangerous precedent, leading to widespread lawlessness and threatening the country’s stability.
The controversy arises amid heightened tensions in the Ablekuma North Constituency, where both NPP and NDC parliamentary candidates have declared themselves winners of the 2024 parliamentary elections. Annoh-Dompreh has also issued a one-week ultimatum to the Electoral Commission to declare the NPP candidate as the winner of the Ablekuma North election, further intensifying the situation.
Mr. Koomson made this demand while speaking on Sakumono-based Ahotor FM.
Dr. Bret Batchelor returned from his sixth visit to Ghana’s northern city of Tamale with lighter luggage but a fan of touching letters from community members, thanking him and other Revelstokians for their latest round of electronics donations.
“Hi friends,” reads one letter. “I received an iPhone 6s from your kind generosity through Dr. Bret. Thank you very much, and may God bless you and your family.”
“It’s every year that you touch my heart with your special gift, and this time was not different,” read another from a Samsung Galaxy A series smartphone recipient.
“Many of these people would never have gotten access to the internet or (been able to) keep in touch with their loved ones,” added a third writer. “So, thank you for your kindness. We truly appreciate you all.”
Batchelor, a Selkirk Medical Group family physician and Queen Victoria Hospital surgery chief, performed 96 operations during his latest volunteer appearance at Tamale’s Shekhinah Clinic, Jan. 13 to 29.
He also handed out between 30 and 50 smartphones and laptops to volunteer Shekhinah medical staff, with people continuing to drop off devices at his Revelstoke practice, an initiative he’s run since starting annual trips to Ghana in 2018.
“I get to know the people really, really well,” he said.
Read Black Press Media’s previous reporting on Batchelor’s work in Ghana.
Starting after a 2017 work visit to Zimbabwe, Batchelor was approached the next year by a fellow in Wawa, Ont., from his Canadian network who was pooling together medical professionals to volunteer at Shekhinah. The clinic has supported impoverished communities in Tamale since 1991.
Batchelor calls the legacy of Shekhinah and its founder, the late Dr. David Abdulai Fuseini, unique for a clinic in Ghana, and perhaps across Africa more widely.
“It’s inspiring,” he said. “Doesn’t look like it’s going to stop any time soon.”
Batchelor hopes to next return to Tamale in 2026, and his newest aspiration for these visits is getting his wife out to Ghana with him. He also remains welcoming of any smartphones and laptops the Revelstoke community would like to contribute.
“People know that I’m always accepting them, so they can just drop them off at the Selkirk desk,” Batchelor noted.
While he emphasized that “my small contribution is a drop in the bucket,” continuing his yearly visits to Tamale means more and more members of this Ghanaian community will benefit from a level of medical service that often remains inaccessible.
“I approach every patient anywhere in the world the same – with dignity,” Batchelor said. “Really, the thing is I’m doing it for the people down there who wouldn’t be able to get it otherwise.”

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama is spearheading diplomatic efforts to reintegrate Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso into the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The three Sahel nations announced their departure from ECOWAS in January 2024, citing dissatisfaction with the regional bloc’s approach to governance and security issues. Their exit raised concerns about regional stability, economic cooperation, and the fight against terrorism in West Africa.
Ablakwa stated that President Mahama has already appointed a special envoy to engage with the leaders of the three countries that broke away from ECOWAS and is planning diplomatic visits in the coming weeks.
“President Mahama is leading the charge to ensure that Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso return to the ECOWAS fold. He is actively holding talks and has appointed a special envoy to facilitate the process. I do not doubt that, given his track record in diplomacy, he will succeed,” Ablakwa said during an interview with TV3.
Ablakwa, who was recently sworn-in as Minister for Foreign Affairs, emphasized that Ghana’s foreign policy under a Mahama-led administration would prioritize economic diplomacy and strategic partnerships.
“We are determined to demystify foreign affairs. Diplomacy should not be abstract but should yield tangible benefits for ordinary Ghanaians. We will prioritise economic diplomacy and ensure that our international relations impact people’s livelihoods.”
Ablakwa also discussed Ghana’s potential engagement with BRICS, the economic bloc made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
He noted that a Mahama-led government would assess the benefits of joining BRICS, while continuing to maintain strong relationships with traditional partners like the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.
“The world is shifting towards multipolar alliances, and Ghana cannot be left behind. We must explore all options, including forging stronger ties with BRICS, to ensure that our economic interests are well-positioned on the global stage.”
Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, Acting CEO of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), has directed regional and area offices to intensify monitoring efforts in their respective jurisdictions as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining (galamsey).
During a visit to Beposo in the Western Region, Prof. Klutse emphasized the importance of proactive field monitoring to address the pollution of water bodies caused by galamsey activities.
“I’m on the field as the CEO, monitoring galamsey issues, monitoring the situation of the water pollution. All my staff in all the regional offices, and area offices, must get out there on this same mission to make sure that people are complying with the environmental rules.”
Expressing concern over the deteriorating state of water bodies, including the Pra River, she highlighted the visible impact of illegal mining activities.
“We are currently standing below the bridge of Beposo and you can see that the Pra River is contaminated. And this is as a result of illegal mining people are doing inside the water right from the Eastern regional part of River Pra, then the polluted water gets to this side.”
Prof. Klutse urged community members and traditional authorities to take an active role in protecting water resources by reporting and preventing illegal mining activities.
“EPA is pleading with the community members, especially areas where illegal mining in our water bodies is happening to let EPA know. They have the capacity to prevent people from mining illegally in their water bodies.
“We’re also pleading with chiefs and elders that they should also stamp on their authority so that the rivers community members use for their domestic purposes will not be destroyed or polluted the way we’re seeing it.”

Social media users are trolling Shatta Wale on what is supposed to be a good day for him following his purchase of a new Rolls Royce.
Wale took possession of his new Rolls Royce Cullinan after its arrival at the Tema port earlier today. He shared numerous videos of the car’s arrival and took to social media to mock his main music ‘rivals’ over his new acquisition.
According to him, he’s now leading them by $15m to Ghc 1.
Wale’s joy has been short-lived though as social media users have ganged up to troll him.
Watching videos of the arrival of the vehicle, netizens claim that it is an old car and not brand new.
“Shatta Wale has gone to buy a 2006 Rolls Royce. Something Davido and Wizkid don use taya,” one netizen shared.

Mr Korto urged the new CO to embrace the challenges ahead, knowing that with teamwork, dedication, and discipline, she will succeed.
He also appreciated the corporate institutions that played significant roles in supporting key infrastructural projects at the base.
The Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics, at the General Headquarters, Rear Admiral Samuel Agyenim-Boateng, commended Commander Korto for his exceptional leadership.

Addressing the new Commanding Officer, Rear Admiral Agyenim-Boateng encouraged her to embrace responsibilities and challenges with confidence and determination to achieve even greater success.
“The success of the unit will depend on your ability to inspire, coordinate, and ensure efficiency in logistics operations,” he stated.

The 812-seater state-of-the-art facility includes a basketball and lawn tennis court with four popular stands, two VIP stands, washrooms and a gym.
This was revealed at the unveiling of a newly constructed multipurpose sports arena in Adausena, one of its ten (10) host communities in the Municipality.
“This project was one of the target areas for the board, as it will serve as a central point for talent development, youth empowerment, community development and social cohesion. It represents the work of all our stakeholders and we must be proud of the results” said Paul Suchmann Apenu, Community Development Manager – Newmont Akyem.
“The modern arena, funded by Newmont through its foundation, will serve as the hub for various sports disciplines in the assembly. In addition to basketball and long tennis, it will also explore sports like table tennis and netball, thus providing a comprehensive sports experience for the community and Ghana”, he added.
In response, the Chief of Adausena, Nana Boni Abankro V commended Newmont for the project and called on all stakeholders to take ownership to ensure its proper management.
The commissioning was attended by traditional authorities, Newmont’s Foundation board, employees, the assembly’s sports directorate and the media.

The Foundation also completed other projects including a one-bed semi-detached teachers’ bungalow in Hweakwae, CHPS compound in Nkwateng and a durbar ground in Abohema.
Students at Bimbilla Senior High School in the Northern Region are facing a worsening water crisis that is severely impacting their education and daily lives.
The scarcity has left many students spending long hours searching for water, causing them to miss classes. Some even risk their lives crossing the busy Eastern Corridor Highway in pursuit of potable water.
The persistent shortage in the Nanumba North Municipality has reached a critical point, affecting students’ academic performance and well-being.
Many are forced to wake up at dawn or roam the town late at night with containers in search of water, with some going days without bathing.
Speaking to Channel One News, students expressed their frustration about the dire situation.
“The main challenge here at Bimbilla Senior High School is water. We face serious difficulties accessing water, and this is seriously affecting our studies. We lose concentration in class—sometimes, the teacher will be teaching, and you will see students sleeping, all because they spent long hours searching for water.”
“The water crisis in Bimbilla is very serious, and we, the students, are affected the most. At dawn or in the evening, we are all over town searching for water instead of focusing on our studies. The government must come to our aid—we are suffering.”
One of the dangers the students face is crossing the highway to fetch water. Students called on the government, philanthropists, and organisations to step in and provide a lasting solution.
“We are unable to concentrate on our studies because we spend most of our time searching for water. We are appealing to the government, philanthropists, and NGOs to urgently assist us in getting a reliable water supply for the school.”
Despite numerous efforts by the school’s management, a permanent solution remains elusive. The school’s location makes it difficult to access groundwater, and previous borehole drilling attempts have been unsuccessful.
Additionally, the town’s main water system is unreliable, with supply occurring only once every two weeks or even less frequently.
Senior Housemaster, Tanko Awesu, who spoke to Channel One News about the ongoing challenges said “The main challenge of the school is water. It’s a serious concern for us, and management is not ignoring it. Several attempts have been made to secure a reliable water supply for the school, but all have failed.
“Sometimes, even in the kitchen, we rely on water tankers, but the cost is very high. One concerned resident of Bimbilla, Alhaji Salam, has tried to help, but we are still unable to get a stable water source.”
He mentioned that while the school recently resolved its security concerns by completing a perimeter wall, the water crisis remains the most pressing issue.
He joined the students in calling for immediate assistance.
“We are making a passionate appeal to the government and other well-meaning individuals to come to the aid of the school. Our main challenge is water—we need assistance,” Mr. Awesu stated.
The crisis is not only affecting students but also the people of Bimbilla, who struggle with accessing clean water. Some community members have voiced their concerns, acknowledging the difficulties students face.

Ghana’s President John Mahama has banned governmental personnel from traveling first class in an effort to save government spending. This policy, which is effective immediately, requires all ministers and high officials to avoid “unwarranted” international trips paid by the state. The plan is consistent with Ghana’s continuing three-year program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to revitalize the country’s economy, which has experienced issues such as high deficits, growing public debt, and currency volatility.
Finance Minister Seth Terkper stated that the government is deliberating on a financial accountability measure. This proposed legislation will punish public officials who are proven to have committed financial malfeasance with penalties such as dismissal or imprisonment. The purpose is to increase openness and enable the public to identify and hold accountable any agency that engages in wrongdoing.
Government ministers and officials have expressed a variety of views to the restriction. Some have expressed support, recognizing the importance of fiscal discipline during difficult economic times. They feel that such actions are critical to restoring public trust and ensuring the effective use of governmental resources. Others have expressed concern about the potential influence on their capacity to conduct official tasks successfully, particularly when overseas relations are critical.
This measure is comparable to those taken in other African countries. To decrease government spending, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has previously put travel limitations on ministers and agency leaders, limiting international travels and canceling first-class jet tickets.
As Ghana prepares for its next presidential and legislative elections, government expenditure and financial accountability are expected to be major concerns in political discourse. The administration’s latest directives highlight its commitment to budgetary restraint and openness, with the goal of addressing economic issues and restoring public trust.

Players within the agricultural sector and export value chain have a lot to cheer about following President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of Hon. Sylvester Adinam Mensah as Acting Chief Executive of the country’s leading policy and development bank, the Ghana Export–Import Bank (GEXIM).
News of the appointment of the consummate finance professional and former senior banker, prominent for his expertise in public sector banking, fund management, strategic financial management, and governance with a proven record of accomplishment of delivering innovative financial solutions was received with excitement across various sectors.
The Ghana Export-Import Bank Act 2016 (Act 911) was promulgated to establish the Ghana Export – Import Bank with a mandate to facilitate international trade, improve export competitiveness, enhance foreign exchange earnings and improve balance of trade. In addition, the Bank is to play a pivotal role in Ghana’s quest for a feasible and sustainable export led economy.
Under Hon. Mensah’s leadership, the Bank’s core strategic direction, is expected to focus on prioritizing agribusiness and introducing carefully designed initiatives to bridge the export gap to foster Ghana’s greater participation in global export value chains, from small and medium-sized enterprises to larger corporations.
Over the years, agriculture has remained the major driver of Ghana’s economy and the primary way the majority of Ghanaians earn their living. As an agrarian economy, it has become important to focus on agribusiness in order to enhance the development of the value chain, and build the ecosystem to our advantage.
Agribusiness, as we are aware, examines the structure and organization of the agricultural food sector as well as the entire value chain extending from farm inputs, through on-farm businesses, to processing, transportation, credit and marketing.
In addition, Agribusiness plays a crucial role in the world economy, responsible for producing, packaging, preserving and distributing food and other agricultural products to consumers and industries worldwide. For this reason, we cannot afford to neglect agribusiness as a priority for the country.
Low and medium income countries always battle with currency depreciation due to unfavourable balance of trade (BoT) which also serves as a major indicator of economic growth potential and an important part of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). To reduce our trade deficit will require a bold step to increase exports to earn more foreign currency from the goods and services exported.
In realizing this, Ghanaian businesses are to be aided to leverage on innovation and technology to improve their processes to be able to compete favourably in the global marketplace.
This will ultimately lead to the building of local capacity, enormously contribute to Ghana’s industrialisation, and export drive agenda. Without a doubt, these will certainly culminate into job creation and the introduction of special purpose initiatives targeting the youth and women to benefit from jobs to bae created.

Loyalists view this as a commendable decision by President John Dramani Mahama, ensuring a seamless synergy between the party and government.
Having played a critical role in the NDC’s operations before, during, and after the 2024 elections, Gbande is expected to bring his vast experience to his new role, enhancing efficiency at the Presidency as the government works to reset the country.

Ankara and lace combinations have become a fashionable choice for women who love to stand out with their style. The fusion of these fabrics strikes a perfect balance between bold prints and delicate elegance, making it suitable for various occasions such as weddings, church services, and social gatherings. With endless styling options, Ankara and lace blend outfits offer a unique and sophisticated look.
One of the most stunning ways to wear this combination is through a fitted gown featuring lace accents on the sleeves, neckline, or hem. This design highlights the vibrancy of Ankara while incorporating the refined touch of lace. A mermaid-style dress with lace inserts or an Ankara gown with a high slit and lace embroidery creates an elegant and graceful appearance, ideal for formal settings.
For those who prefer two-piece outfits, an Ankara skirt paired with a lace top offers a stylish and versatile option. A peplum lace blouse combined with either a pencil or flared Ankara skirt enhances the silhouette, adding charm and sophistication. Likewise, an Ankara top with lace sleeves, matched with tailored trousers or palazzo pants, provides a chic and comfortable alternative for modern fashion lovers.
Jumpsuits and wrap dresses also look exquisite when designed with Ankara and lace. Adding lace detailing to the bodice or sleeves of a jumpsuit enhances its appeal, making it suitable for both casual and semi-formal occasions. Meanwhile, a wrap dress with lace trimmings along the edges creates a soft, feminine touch, perfect for a striking fashion statement.
To complete the look, accessories should be kept minimal to complement the bold patterns and delicate lace details. Elegant heels, subtle jewelry, and well-styled hair can enhance the overall sophistication of the outfit. By exploring different designs and tailoring techniques, women can create breathtaking Ankara and lace outfits that effortlessly showcase their personal style.
An Irish tourist visiting Ghana for the first time was left shocked and impressed by the country’s modern urban landscape, which defied his initial expectations of a rural, underdeveloped environment.
Speaking about his experience, the tourist admitted that he had pictured Africa as largely rural but was taken aback by the presence of global franchises like KFC as well as modern corporate buildings in Accra.
I had always perceived Africa as a particularly rural part of the world, but I was surprised to see KFC, Starbucks, and large building corporations similar to those in the Western world when I walked through Accra.
His experience in Ghana changed his perspective, and he encouraged others to visit the continent, describing it as a safe and culturally enriching destination.
What I would say to anyone who has thought of coming over to Africa, it is just a fantastic place to be. We had a great time, we met lovely people. It is really safe and you’d get a fantastic cultural experience that you’re not going to get anywhere else in the world.
Beyond the urban scenery, the tourist also explored Ghanaian cuisine, particularly enjoying Banku with groundnut soup and beef.
So last night I tried Banku with my family, with some kind of mix of groundnut soup and beef, and it was delicious.

Former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Inusah Fuseini, has criticized Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene over his approach to tackling illegal mining, arguing that lawbreakers should not be given time to prepare before facing consequences.

Togbe Borbordzi Xevi VII has urged President John Mahama to launch an investigation into the military brutalities in Ashaiman and hold those responsible accountable.
In 2023, military officers rounded up hundreds of Ashaiman residents and subjected them to severe torture following the death of a junior officer.
Addressing the press in Ashaiman, the Battor Mankrado called on President Mahama to ensure justice for the victims by investigating the incident and prosecuting the perpetrators.
“I’m calling on the president to investigate the army commander who commanded his army to beat people in Ashaiman, and disgrace elders because they lost one member,” he stated.
According to him, the military could have handled the situation differently instead of resorting to violence against residents.
“It’s a very bad thing. We shouldn’t disgrace our own country. They do that and put it on the net that they the military of this nation can beat their people.
“We are calling on the president to do something about it. It’s very bad and Ghana must be protected,” he said.
He emphasised that the military’s duty is to protect citizens, not to subject them to harmful treatment.
“We are proud of them because other nations are also proud of them. We love them but the way they behave sometimes is not good.”
Togbe Borbordzi Xevi VII also criticised Nsawam-Adoagyiri Member of Parliament, Frank Annoh-Dompreh for what he described as reckless and inflammatory remarks regarding the Ablekuma North parliamentary election dispute.
The Minority Chief Whip urged members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to firmly support their fellow party members in all political situations.
He asserted that NPP members should unite and support their fellow party members in any confrontation with members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“If you are truly an NPP member and you come across an NPP member in a fight with an NDC member, you should help the NPP member,” he declared.
Togbe Borbordzi condemned the statement as irresponsible and called on the MP to apologise to Ghanaians for inciting political violence.

Member of Parliament of Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah
The Member of Parliament of Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 elections to the attitude of the heads of some state-owned enterprises and agencies under the Ministry of Energy.
According to him, the appointees of those institutions are wicked people who do not have the party’s interest at heart.
Speaking in an engagement on Peace FM, he said: “The NPP has learnt a lot within this short time. When you come to power you give the post to those who know the work. The agencies under the Ministry of Energy, the people there are wicked people who did not help the party. They did not help the party. If you don’t help the party to get votes for you to become CEO, what is the sense in that.”
The Old Tafo MP intimated that power should be given to persons who actually put in the work to ensure the party’s victory.
“Some of the CEOs are wicked. They are the reason NPP lost woefully. It is as if the position is for them. When you need resources to help the party you have to beg,” he stressed.
He added that “We have to give positions to people who suffered.”

Kumawood actor Big Akwes has shared his thoughts on the role of money in relationships, saying it’s embarrassing for a man not to buy his partner a Valentine’s Day gift.
Speaking on Max TV, he responded to a male viewer who asked what to do if he couldn’t afford a gift for his girlfriend. Big Akwes didn’t mince words: “You have to put some money down and get something nice for your girlfriend. If you can’t afford a gift for Valentine’s, why is she still with you? Sell your phone and buy something for your partner.”
He stressed that financial stability is important in relationships and that love alone isn’t enough to keep things going. He added: “She should run away from the relationship. It is a disgrace for you not to be able to afford even a bar of chocolate for your girlfriend. It is a big insult.”
Big Akwes also had advice for women, urging them to pay attention if their partners don’t get them anything for Valentine’s Day. However, he encouraged them to also give back. “If your boyfriend can’t buy anything for you, leave the relationship. But if he does, you should also be able to get something for him, a watch or something will be okay,” he concluded.

On this earth, there are those people who truly glow. Without a question, Michelle Obama is one of those people. That much is evident when you see her smiling for family vacation photos, hugging one of her devoted admirers, or strutting across the stage in a pair of silver glittery boots. Carl Ray, a makeup artist, is responsible for enhancing that radiance.
Since 2009, Ray has been Obama’s preferred makeup artist, and it’s likely that his skillful work produced every stunning appearance you’ve seen of her, from State Dinners to several international visits. I had a lot of questions for him, of course. Continue reading for his advice on how to glow like Obama.
1. How can you apply makeup to appear more alert following a significantly reduced sleep duration?
On days when obtaining eight full hours of sleep is a pipe dream, Ray has some brilliant tips for making Michelle Obama appear more awake. Michelle Obama’s schedule isn’t exactly the most sleep-friendly (being an international superstar takes a lot of time out of the day). He advises applying a small amount of concealer to the inner corner of your eyes. The inside of your nose typically has dark patches. If you apply a small amount of concealer, it will appear as though you slept for a few more hours. Additionally, if you’re fatigued, keep the glob liner on the bottom instead of continually using it.
2. Regardless of what you have on your plate, how do you make your makeup last all day?
Ray uses two things to help makeup endure over a long day of book tours, changing the world, and all of the above. He adds that he uses the technique on his bridal clients. “Primer helps to keep makeup in place from budging and smudging, and you can use fishing sprays so the makeup lasts and stays in place,” he says. NARS, Hourglass, and Make Up For Ever are some of his favorite setting sprays available.
3. What gives Michelle Obama her radiant appearance?
To put it simply: Highlighter. According to Ray, “you can use highlighters to bounce light to the skin to make it glowy.” “Depending on the situation, I like to apply a C-shaped brush stroke to the cheekbones, the area around the eye, the Cupid’s bow, the nose, and the eyebrow.” Depending on the occasion, he begins with the cheeks and works his way up from there. For example, a party might have highlighters all over the place, while a daytime function might only receive the C shape.
Ray has some guidelines to follow when choosing the appropriate merchandise. Because glitter can make the skin appear more old and pearlised particles tend to look nicer in photos, he says, “I usually like something that’s much more pearlised and less glittery.”
Agree or Disagree, Don Lemon was correct that Michelle Obama is so much more of a beautiful person, inside and out, then Melania will ever be? ♥️ pic.twitter.com/rHe1Dvg4TO
4. Without going overboard with color, how can you create a beauty look that isn’t boring?
Now that she isn’t representing the United States on the international scene, Michelle Obama may be taking some chances with her wardrobe choices (let me remind you about those glitter boots, please), but she isn’t exactly taking the same chances with neon mascara or blue eyeliner.
Nevertheless, her attractive appearance is anything but uninteresting. Ray says you can keep things fresh by adding a modest little something to your final appearance, even though he usually goes for a more neutral palette with golden and bronze tones. “You can add a little color to your liner without being too garish, or you can add a pop of color to your lips,” he says, noting that he tends to stay away from major color moments for big events.
5. How can you accentuate your natural characteristics using makeup?
Ray’s skill as a makeup artist is partly due to the fact that everything he does is simultaneously understated and striking. How does he do it, though? He claims that he is more of a neutral, “bring out your inner beauty” kind of man. Enhancing their attributes is what I prefer to accomplish for all of my customers, not just Michelle. For instance, experiment with the lips, apply liner to highlight the eyes, and apply bronzer to give the face a sun-kissed appearance. I’m not crazy about anything. Most importantly of all: “It’s all about bringing out the inner beauty for me,” says Ray. “And accenting the beauty and just making the person feel and look beautiful.”

GhanaWeb reports that Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has refuted claims that the ruling party lacks strength in Parliament, stating that real strength is shown through the implementation of policies rather than through confrontational strategies.
Despite the seeming showmanship of ministerial approvals, Ayariga stated in an interview with Kafui Dey on GTV that MyNewsGH reported that the majority was able to accomplish its objective without stifling opposing viewpoints.
Instead of stifling criticism, he underlined that the core of democracy is promoting discussion.
He said the goal was to make sure all the candidates who had been screened were approved, giving the minority a chance to express their concerns and, in the end, achieving the intended results quickly.
Ayariga responded to allegations of Minority pressure by stating that their strategy was intentional.
He clarified that it is crucial to let conversations develop organically before reaching a decision.
He also talked about how the Speaker had suspended certain whips, saying it was an essential measure to keep Parliamentarians in line.
While many new MPs are still getting used to parliamentary procedures and etiquette, Ayariga admitted that this will change with time.
He noted that wearing casual items like T-shirts or jeans could lead to ridicule from colleagues.
“You cannot wear a T-shirt or jeans to Parliament. If you do, expect to be heckled by your colleagues,” he added.
Ayariga reiterated his dedication to upholding democratic principles while ensuring the smooth functioning of government operations, stating that achieving their goals without resorting to intimidation exemplifies true political strength.
Newmont’s Akyem mine has invested over $400,000 in sports development in the Birim North Municipality.
In addition to the sports arena, Newmont instituted an annual inter-community sports competition in 2006 and continues to serve as a key part of strengthening its partnership with the host communities.
The Foundation also completed other projects including a one-bed semi-detached teachers’ bungalow in Hweakwae, CHPS compound in Nkwateng and a durbar ground in Abohema.

Birmingham’s game plan has been very evident from the kick-off. They are going to use as much energy as they can to match Newcastle and try and go a little bit more.
At the moment, Newcastle haven’t had a second to put their foot on the ball and grow into this game. They are already a goal down and they need to find a way of calming things down and find their way back into this game.
Renowned Ghanaian songwriter, record producer and lead singer of the award-winning urban gospel group Preachers, Obed Awelinga-Nzuh known as Obed Psych has expressed concerns over the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA)’s newly introduced “Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Song” category.
According to him, this new move could either benefit artistes or inadvertently confine them.
In a recent Facebook post, Obed Psych shared his perspective on the development, expressing both excitement but also questioning whether it would truly benefit urban gospel artists or inadvertently confine them.
“To start with, as a pioneer of Christian hip-hop, I was excited about it, but I couldn’t help but wonder if this will actually help us, or will it box us in?” he stated.
He reflected on Preachers’ historic achievement in 2016 when they secured three TGMA nominations despite the absence of an urban gospel category.
He raised a fundamental question: “If it’s ‘Urban/Contemporary Gospel,’ then it’s clearly not just for gospel rappers, dancehall, or afrobeat artists like Preachers, Kingzkid, and Kobby Salm. It also encompasses contemporary gospel singers such as Joe Mettle, MOG, and Cwesi Oteng.
He cautioned against assuming that the new category guarantees nominations and wins for Christian hip-hop artists, emphasizing that “It’s only hard work and determination that can get us a TGMA”.
About Preachers
Preachers is a gospel group. Obed Psych started his music career in 2009 as a founding member of Preachers, pioneering Christian hip-hop music in Ghana. The group consist of three members: Obed Psych, Emani Beats, and Edmund Baidoo.
Preachers gained recognition in the music industry after releasing their debut album, “Mark 16:15,” in 2012, with their hit song “Go Hard”.
As a solo artist, Obed Psych aims to inspire, uplift, and spread positivity through his music.
He has performed on major stages in Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa. In addition to his musical career, Obed Psych is also a businessman and a father. In January 2025, Obed Psych and Lamisi released a single titled “Together Forever,” which celebrates loyalty, resilience, and love.
Media personality Nana Yaa Brefo has jumped to the defence of the immediate past Managing Director of State Insurance Company Limited (SIC), Hollistar Duah-Yentumi, amid criticisms regarding her entitlements.
She indicated that the former SIC MD cannot be entirely blamed because the entitlements are given to her by the institution, not by herself.
The Onua FM journalist stated that the criticisms towards Hollistar are unfair, as other Managing Directors of state institutions receive equal or more entitlements than she does.
“The criticisms towards the SIC boss should cease. Is she the one who assigns herself such monies? I don’t even understand why she ran away. Don’t we know the salary the GOIL boss takes?
“The Bank of Ghana Governor also takes a lot. So, why is a monthly salary of GH₵70,000 a problem?” Yaa Brefo questioned while speaking on Onua FM.
Hollistar faced scrutiny following her lawsuit against the company and her successor, James Agyenim-Boateng, which included what many considered unrealistic and shocking demands.
Her decision to reportedly refuse to hand over the office keys sparked backlash.
She accused the company of wrongfully terminating her contract, which was supposed to last until January 1, 2028.
