Maresca yet to speak to Mudryk after anti-doping charge

0

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says he has yet to speak to Mykhailo Mudryk since the forward was charged with violating the Football Association’s anti-doping rules but insists the player retains the club’s support.

Ukraine international Mudryk, 24, was provisionally suspended by the FA in December after an “adverse finding in a routine urine test” and now faces a potential four-year ban.

Mudryk, who at the time of his suspension said he was in “complete shock” and had “never knowingly used any banned substances”, last played for Chelsea in November but attended the Blues’ Uefa Conference League final win in Poland last month in a private capacity.

“Mischa is a Chelsea player and – as a Chelsea player – I trust all the Chelsea players,” said Maresca.

“I spoke with Mischa at the Conference League final in Poland but I haven’t spoken to him since.

“When I spoke to him he was quite good, I didn’t see him worried or not good, he was good and okay but I haven’t spoken to him since that day so I don’t know how he is now.”

Chelsea signed Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 in a deal worth up to £89m, and he is under contract at the club until June 2031.

Mudryk, who cannot currently train with the club, has scored 10 goals in 73 appearances in all competitions for the Blues.

Palmer wanted number 10 shirt to emulate Messi

Star attacker Cole Palmer has taken Mudryk’s number 10 shirt and wore it for the first time in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC at the Club World Cup.

Speaking on Thursday at the club’s training base at Subaru Park, home to MLS side Philadelphia Union, Palmer said he had not yet spoken to his team-mate but “will when the time is right”.

Asked why he had wanted to wear the number 10 shirt, 23-year-old Palmer said it was to emulate his footballing idols.

“I wore number 10 all my life growing up and I just like the number,” he said.

“It is an iconic number, which makes me think of Messi and Rooney.”

When in Manchester City’s academy, Palmer sent a private message to Belgium winger Eden Hazard, a former wearer of the number 10 shirt at Chelsea, but did not receive a response.

Palmer said Hazard still hasn’t replied to his message but added: “I have met him a few times at the training ground. He asked me for one of his shirts from his sons.”

Meanwhile, Maresca said he will rotate “three, four or five players in every game”, with his team next facing Brazilian giants Flamengo at Lincoln Financial Field.

He added that he expects winger Noni Madueke to remain at the club despite links to Arsenal.

Ghanaian radio presenter and women’s advocate, Oheneni Adazoa, known in real life as Genevieve Abrefa Yeboah, has openly declared that she feels no bitterness or discouragement over her childlessness, despite helping scores of women conceive and even give birth through her “Woman in Prayer” initiative.

In a recent interview on Zionfelix’s Uncut Show, the respected Sompa FM and Sompa TV host explained that although she has been married for 21 years without conceiving, her faith in God remains unshaken. She revealed that even though she is yet to conceive and give birth to a child of her own, over 50 women who joined her prayer group have successfully conceived, and two have already given birth.

She added that while this could have made her feel sad for herself, she is not bothered at all. “I know the God I serve is capable of doing anything. If He wants me to give birth, He will make it happen in His time,” she said.

She made it clear that her personal trials have not deterred her from pouring strength into others.

I’m back with a bang – Deborah Seyram speaks after 45-day jail term

Deborah Seyram Adablah, the young woman who once dominated headlines over her controversial lawsuit against a senior bank executive, has resurfaced on social media with a bold message following her release from Nsawam Female Prison, where she served a 45-day sentence for contempt of court.

In a TikTok video shared shortly after regaining her freedom, Deborah expressed heartfelt appreciation to those who supported her during her time behind bars.

“Thank you, OIC, chiefs, my Ewurabas, and the special inmates of Nsawam Female Prison for preservation, correction, and security. I love you all,” she captioned the video.

But it wasn’t all gratitude—Deborah followed up with a defiant declaration that hinted at a comeback, warning her detractors and doubters alike.

“I’m back with a bang. To all my haters, your battery will get low, and I will still be standing strong,” she proclaimed confidently.

The 45-day jail sentence, handed down for contempt of court, stemmed from the legal fallout of her high-profile civil case involving allegations of breach of promise, emotional distress, and financial obligations with her former employer at a major bank.

Now out of confinement, Deborah Seyram Adablah appears poised to reclaim her place in the spotlight—unshaken by controversy and ready to begin the next chapter of her life on her own terms.

Chiefs, MMDCEs to play key roles in galamsey fight – Lands minister

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has announced government plans to actively involve local authorities in the fight against illegal mining (galamsey).

This comes in the wake of approximately 16% of Ghana’s land reserves already being lost to the practice.

Speaking at an orientation session for Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the minister emphasised that the government intends to decentralise efforts to combat the widespread degradation caused by illegal mining.

“Chiefs and MMDCEs will play a crucial role in fighting galamsey,” the minister stressed, noting that traditional leaders and local government officials will now assume direct oversight responsibility for monitoring mining activities within their jurisdictions.

“The decentralised system will drive a bottom-up approach to allow your involvement in the issuance of mining licenses,” he added.

The new policy direction forms part of broader stakeholder initiatives aimed at curbing galamsey and restoring Ghana’s polluted water bodies and degraded lands.

The announcement comes amid increasing calls for traditional authorities to support government efforts to clamp down on illegal mining operations.

In his address, the minister further outlined the government’s five-pronged strategy to tackle the menace, namely:

Reclaiming degraded mining areas

Providing alternative livelihoods for affected communities

Strengthening law enforcement

Reforming licensing regimes

Enhancing stakeholder education and engagement

He therefore urged the newly appointed MMDCEs to fully commit to the cause of halting the devastation of Ghana’s lands, warning that defaulters and collaborators in illicit activities will face the full rigours of the law.

He assured them of the Ministry’s full support and unwavering dedication to the fight.

The involvement of local authorities is expected to ensure sustainable land management while safeguarding Ghana’s natural resources for posterity.

NPP needs a strong party to produce a president, not just a flagbearer – Patrick Boamah

0

Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has underscored the need for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rebuild its internal strength, cohesion, and discipline as it looks ahead to the 2028 general elections.

In a pointed post on Twitter (now X) on Thursday evening, 20 June, the lawmaker stated:

“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) needs a strong party, well organized and disciplined to produce a President not just a Flagbearer” he said.

The remarks come at a time when the party is grappling with the aftermath of its 2024 electoral defeat, with some members and analysts calling for introspection and comprehensive restructuring.

While Boamah did not mention names, his comment is widely interpreted as a subtle critique of the party’s early moves towards the next flagbearership contest—particularly after 60 of the NPP’s 88 MPs held a closed-door meeting with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s 2024 presidential candidate, pledging support for his 2028 bid.

The tweet has reignited debate over whether the NPP is rushing into succession politics without first addressing deeper organisational issues and the root causes of its electoral loss.

Growing Internal Disquiet

Some senior party figures and grassroots members have warned against what they describe as a “knee-jerk response” to the defeat, arguing that jumping into campaign mode without restructuring may only deepen internal divisions.

Critics have pointed to the need for:

  • Rebuilding grassroots support
  • Resolving factional tensions
  • Refreshing the party’s message and leadership culture
  • Empowering party structures at constituency and regional levels

“We must not repeat the mistakes that cost us the 2024 election,” one party organiser told Adom News. “The problem wasn’t just the candidate—it was that the party machinery was disconnected and disillusioned.”

Early Congress Divides Opinion

The NPP’s National Council recently approved an early congress in January 2026 to elect a new flagbearer, a move some interpret as an attempt to give Dr Bawumia a head start.

However, others, like Mr Boamah, appear to believe the timing may be premature, especially if the party has not yet completed a full post-election review and grassroots reorganisation.

As the NPP prepares for its national congress, calls are intensifying for the leadership to prioritise unity, renewal, and deep reforms—before turning its full attention to the 2026 primaries and the 2028 national elections.

Students risk their lives just to eat – Sammi Awuku on Mampong deaf school

0

Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku

On Wednesday, June 18, the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Hon. Sammi Awuku, brought urgent attention to Parliament regarding critical infrastructural and curriculum challenges facing the Senior High Technical School for the Deaf in Mampong.

Delivering a passionate statement during parliamentary proceedings, Hon. Awuku painted a troubling picture of the daily risks students endure due to the school’s disjointed infrastructure.

“Mr. Speaker, the school currently operates from two physically separated campuses—North and South,” he revealed. “This setup forces students to cross busy roads several times a day, risking their lives just to access food or attend classes.”

He went on to describe how students are often left stranded and hungry, as the school depends on taxis to shuttle food between campuses—an unreliable system that frequently fails.

“Students depend on taxis to transport food between the campuses. This unreliable system has often resulted in delays, and in some cases, complete failure to deliver meals, thereby affecting student nutrition and concentration.”

To address the problem, Hon. Awuku proposed a centralised campus layout and an on-site dining hall, noting that these measures would significantly improve both safety and the well-being of students.

“An on-site dining hall is recommended to ensure nutrition and eliminate reliance on external logistics,” he said.

“The recommendation for a centralised and accessible learning environment, complete with an on-site dining facility, must be taken up by the Ministry of Education with support from Parliament.”

The MP also turned Parliament’s attention to the curriculum deficiencies that hinder academic progress among deaf students.

“Mr. Speaker, the third issue relates to the inadequacy of the current national curriculum in addressing the needs of deaf learners,” Awuku stated.

He explained that teachers at the school often have to repeat lessons multiple times due to delays in comprehension, a situation made worse by assessment structures that do not reflect the needs of hearing-impaired students.

To bridge the gap, the students themselves made thoughtful proposals, which Awuku shared on the floor:

“The students proposed a comprehensive review of the National Curriculum for Deaf Learners to incorporate:

Sign language-based instructional materials

Visual learning tools

Simplified content structures

Extended teaching and assessment time.”

He also conveyed additional recommendations including the recruitment and training of more sign language interpreters, the provision of specialised learning aids, and professional development for teachers in deaf education.

In concluding, Hon. Awuku urged Parliament and the Ministry of Education to take the concerns seriously, describing them as essential to ensuring equity in Ghana’s education system.

“These are not luxury demands, Mr. Speaker. They are essential steps toward inclusion, dignity, and quality education for every Ghanaian child, regardless of ability.”

Four public officials charged with corruption over seized rice containers

0

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has formally charged four public officials, including a National Insurance Commission officer and a former Vice President’s staffer, following allegations of conspiring to steal 10 containers of imported rice at Tema Port.

According to an OSP statement on X, Issah Seidu, James Keck Osei, John Abban, and Peter Archibald Hyde are accused of using forged documents—one purportedly from the Office of the Vice President—to fraudulently claim rice imported from Thailand in 2022.

Seidu allegedly orchestrated the scam and attempted to auction the seized goods to himself.

OSP investigations revealed that Seidu and Osei, a former director at the Vice President’s Secretariat, collaborated with Customs officials Abban and Hyde to bypass standard clearance procedures, despite duties having been paid.

The illicit plot was uncovered through internal audits and a High Court ruling, which exposed the fake documents and halted the scheme.

Sources confirm that measures were taken following the seizure of the rice containers, triggering a full investigation by the OSP.

The four suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Friday, June 27, 2025, to face charges including corruption, wire fraud, and document forgery.

Campaign with decorum – Effia MP to supporters

0

The Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah Nyarko, has called on supporters of the various flagbearer hopefuls within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain decorous and respectful in their campaigns.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Thursday, June 19, the MP emphasised that maintaining unity and discipline within the party is crucial as it prepares for internal elections.

He urged supporters to focus on promoting the strengths and visions of their preferred candidates rather than attacking opponents, stressing that the goal should be to win the hearts and minds of the broader Ghanaian public.

“It is about the people. Let the message go down into the minds of the people. Let the people believe why you are the best to lead, and when they are convinced, it doesn’t matter, at the end of the day, how many people are voting, 200,000, how many voted in the last election? Millions. So we are only a small fraction making a determination.

“The bigger picture is the people down there as Ghanaians. It is important that we raise the standard and raise the bar beyond the little group, whether they are five here or seven there. All we need to do is go wherever you think you want, but let us be decorous in our speeches and let’s sell our candidates,” he said.

Inspired by her late mother, Asante Mampong businesswoman champions grassroots development

0

A businesswoman from Asante Mampong, Beatrice Siaw, says the giving spirit instilled in her by her late mother continues to drive her to support the vulnerable and tackle pressing community challenges through self-funded initiatives.

“As a young child, I always had a giving spirit, but my mum gave even more than I did,” she recalled, explaining how her mother’s compassion sparked her passion for philanthropy.

Beatrice has committed herself to improving the lives of residents in the Mampong Municipality, addressing issues in health, education, sanitation, security, and youth empowerment—often using her personal funds.

“Mampong lacks many basic needs like clean water, schools, and good sanitation. If I don’t do it, who will?” she asked.

So far, she estimates she has spent 20 million cedis on community projects, yet says the drive to do more remains.

Her numerous contributions include:

  • Renovating Krobo Junior High School to create a better learning environment.
  • Constructing boreholes in Kofiase and Apaa to provide clean water.
  • Evacuating a major refuse dump at Ashanti Mampong Newtown to improve sanitation.
  • Equipping the Asaam Police Station with a new Navara engine.
  • Constructing a kindergarten block at Asaam to boost early childhood education.
  • Providing tricycles to the communities of Nwadan and Naama for transportation.
  • Donating sanitary pads to female students in four schools at Kofiase to support girls’ education and hygiene.
  • Establishing VIP wards at the Asante Mampong Government Hospital to enhance healthcare delivery.
  • Donating roofing sheets to Nintin Primary School to improve school infrastructure.

Despite her impact, Beatrice believes the challenges in Mampong are too great for one person to solve alone.
“I said, no problem. I have the resources, let me help,” she explained. “But we need a united front. The issues are too vast for any one person.”

She also drew attention to the underdeveloped tourism potential in the municipality, urging government and private investors to help develop attractions that could boost the local economy.

“There are a few tourist attractions here, but they need serious development to bring lasting benefits to the people,” she noted.

Beatrice has announced her intention to seek a seat in Parliament, explaining that her motivation stems from a desire to scale up her development efforts and effect broader change.
“You have to show what you can do,” she said. “I want to improve living standards and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Mampong. Our culture is valuable and must be sustained.”

Looking ahead, she revealed plans to establish two factories in the area to address unemployment and reduce dependency.

“People constantly ask me for money, and I give. But it’s like giving someone fish without teaching them how to fish. I want to help people become financially independent through sustainable jobs.”

Her call to action was emphatic: “We must keep the youth engaged, because an idle mind becomes the devil’s workshop.”

With a legacy inspired by her mother’s generosity and a clear vision for change, Beatrice Siaw continues to make her mark as a determined advocate for community empowerment in Asante Mampong.

Government to establish passport offices in Western North, five other regions

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has provided a detailed update on the government’s plan to establish passport offices in the Western North Region and five other regions, as part of efforts to improve passport services across the country.

He made this announcement during a parliamentary session on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in response to a question from the Member of Parliament for the Suaman Dadieso Constituency, Frederick Addy, regarding the timeline for setting up passport offices in the six remaining regions, particularly the Western North Region.

The minister reiterated that, in line with the government’s goal to decentralize passport services and ensure equitable access, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will establish passport application centers in the six regions currently without them. These are the Savannah Region, Bono East Region, Ahafo Region, Oti Region, Western North Region, and North East Region.

“As part of our efforts to decentralize passport delivery and ensure equitable access to passport services, the ministry plans to establish passport application centers in the six newly created regions that currently lack such facilities,” he noted.

He disclosed that the ministry has adopted a phased approach, starting with the establishment of temporary passport offices in these regions due to funding constraints that currently hinder the construction of permanent structures.

“We have adopted this strategy because we do not have the funding at the moment for permanent structures. What we are doing is implementing the first phase by establishing temporary offices. We are collaborating with the Regional Coordinating Councils to make this happen, including one in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, which currently does not have a passport application center,” he highlighted.

He assured Parliament that the ministry intends to transition to permanent structures once funding is approved in the 2026 budget. However, he committed to establishing functional passport application centers in all 16 regions by the end of this year.

“In the 2026 budget, we hope to receive favorable approval from the Ministry of Finance to enable us to move into permanent structures and establish dedicated stand-alone passport application centers. But for now, I can make a commitment that, by the end of this year, passport application centers will be operational in all 16 regions through our partnership with the regional administrations.”

He added that the Upper East Region, where an earlier attempt to establish a center was halted, will also benefit from this renewed effort.

“We are determined to ensure that the people of the Upper East Region and all these newly created regions no longer suffer or face frustration due to long travel distances in search of passport services,” he asserted.

NPP will not return to power any time soon – Chris Dugan

The Head of Corporate Communications for the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Chris Dugan, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be in opposition for a very long time due to their mismanagement while in government.

Bryan Acheampong camp unfazed by 60 MPs show of support for Dr Bawumia – Aide

0

Aide to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr Bryan Acheampong, says the campaign team is unbothered by the recent visit of 60 Members of Parliament (MPs) to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to declare their support for his presidential bid.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story on Thursday, June 19, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi stated that their camp remains focused on charting a distinct path toward the 2026 primary, despite the growing endorsement of Dr Bawumia by some parliamentary members.

“Well, as far as we’re concerned, we are unperturbed – very key thing,” Dr Kissi said.

“We’re more interested in doing something very different from what we’ve always been doing. So I must admit that this noise, or as it is, statement of declaration, is shocking for me, or surprising, because in my discussions with their leadership, at some point, it was very clear in my mind that the ninth Parliamentarians will not, as it is, make a declaration.”

He expressed surprise at the public display of allegiance by the MPs, explaining that there was an earlier understanding that the NPP lawmakers would maintain neutrality in the interest of party cohesion.

Dr Kissi confirmed that while Mr Acheampong’s campaign had expressed some reservations during the NPP’s recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which set January 31, 2026, as the date for the presidential primary, they remain committed to working within the framework laid out by the party.

“Though we had reservations, I think during the meeting it was made known. Subsequent to that, we think that once the party has set a date, we will work within that,” he said.

He added that the camp intends to issue a formal statement next week.

“I will not do a preemptive statement, but I think the feedback is very positive.”

Bryan Acheampong, the MP for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, is one of the notable figures expected to contest the NPP flagbearership race for the 2028 general elections.

Using scanned pink sheets for Ablekuma North sets bad precedent – Mahdi Gibril warns

0

Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibril, has cautioned against the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rely on scanned pink sheets for the collation of parliamentary results in the Ablekuma North constituency, warning that it sets a dangerous precedent for future elections.

His remarks come after the EC ruled out a re-run of the 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency while insisting that results from three outstanding polling stations can still be collated.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Thursday, June 19, 2025, Mahdi Gibril expressed serious reservations about the integrity of using scanned documents not agreed upon by all parties involved.

According to him, allowing such a practice undermines transparency and trust in the electoral process and could encourage manipulation and mistrust in subsequent elections.

“Today, if we easily accept to say; use scanned document to collate results when all parties do not have, we don’t have future elections because everybody will now play this trick to bring a scaned document and say I have it and that if you do not have it, let’s use my scanned document to collate the results. Will anybody accept that for presidential elections?” he questioned.

It’s propaganda, Ken Agyapong will win – Stephen Amoah fires Bawumia camp over MP endorsements

0

A member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign strategy team, Dr Stephen Amoah, has dismissed the recent show of support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia by over 60 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament, describing it as “propaganda” and a sign of growing panic within the former Vice President’s camp.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story on Thursday, June 19, Dr Amoah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, said the Bawumia camp is exaggerating its strength, and the numbers being cited do not reflect genuine endorsements.

“It is extremely interesting and funny. You saw the numbers that were at the place, just go and look at it again, whether the number will be up to even 30,” he said.

“All those who went there did not necessarily go there because they support Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. That is not true.”

Dr Amoah alleged that many MPs who appeared at the meeting with Dr Bawumia did so under pressure or for appearances, insisting that true support lies elsewhere — particularly with the grassroots and former party appointees.

He revealed that more than 260 former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) had met with Kennedy Agyapong on the same day as Bawumia’s MP endorsement, and claimed 90% of them pledged support for the former Assin Central MP.

“Even today, over 260 former NPP MMDCEs and DCEs, all of them came and met Honourable Ken Ohene Agyapong. I can tell you that about 90% of such a large number support Kennedy Agyapong,” Dr Amoah stated.

He insisted they have the data to back their claims: “We will send their pictures. We have their names. They wrote their names and their numbers. We can send them to you.”

Dr Amoah also accused some party factions of intimidating MPs, particularly first-time legislators, to publicly support Dr Bawumia.

“There are other people who are being intimidated and blackmailed. Most of them went there and they support Ken. Some support Bryan, some support Adutwum.”

Although he declined to give a specific number of MPs supporting Mr Agyapong, Dr Amoah was confident of a strong showing in the upcoming contest.

“Trust me, most of the MPs support Honourable Ken, and they are quiet. The game is just about to be started.”

The NPP is expected to hold its presidential primary on January 31, 2026, but early endorsements and rising tensions suggest a fiercely competitive internal race is already underway.

NPP needs a strong party to produce a president, not just a flagbearer – Patrick Boamah

0

Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Okaikwei Central Member of Parliament Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Okaikwei Central Member of Parliament

Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Okaikwei Central member of parliament, has emphasized the necessity for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to regain its discipline, unity, and internal strength in preparation for the general elections in 2028.

The legislator said in a scathing statement on Thursday night, June 20, on Twitter (now X): “The New Patriotic Party (NPP) needs a strong party, well organized and disciplined to produce a President not just a Flagbearer” he said.

Despite not naming specific individuals, Boamah’s remark is generally seen as a subtly critical assessment of the party’s early preparations for the next flagbearership contest, especially after 60 of the NPP’s 88 MPs met behind closed doors with the party’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and pledged support for his 2028 campaign.

The tweet has rekindled discussion about whether the NPP is hurrying into succession planning without first tackling more serious organizational problems and the underlying reasons for its electoral defeat.

Meanwhile, a former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has criticised the party for failing to learn from the mistakes that led to their abysmal loss in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb on June 17, 2025, Obiri Boahen stated that if the party had truly learned its lessons, it would have made the registration of members and the issuance of party cards a top priority.

“Are you sure they have learnt lessons? Because if they had learnt lessons, they would have started vigorously campaigning for the registration of members and issuance of party cards,” he said.

Obiri Boahen, who is also a lawyer, did not mince words, stating that no serious party would have its members clamoring and campaigning for votes when they have not fulfilled their basic responsibilities.

He questioned why some party members are seeking positions despite neglecting duties such as maintaining a credible register and engaging prospective supporters.

“That is the majority of it but when people are not vigorously campaigning, when people are not joining me to mount a massive campaign, and people think about ‘oh, incoming national chairman, incoming general secretary, incoming national organiser,’ then it clearly shows that those individuals are not serious,” a displeased Obiri Boahen said.

He further questioned such individuals, asking how they expect to be voted for without a proper register and album in place for the party – the NPP.

He added, “Are you serious? So, as incoming, who is going to vote for you? What register are you going to use? What album are you going to use?”

Asante Kotoko says good-bye to nine[9] KEY players

0

2024/25 Ghana FA Cup champions Asante Kotoko have officially parted ways with nine players following the conclusion of the 2024/25 football season, signaling the beginning of a massive squad overhaul ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Among the most notable departures is club captain Justice Blay, whose contract expired at the end of the season.

Once a fan favorite and engine in midfield, Blay’s time at the club ends under a cloud, with reports suggesting disciplinary issues played a key role in the decision not to offer a contract extension.

Despite his leadership on the pitch, the Porcupine Warriors are moving in a different direction.

The club has officially announced the departure of former WAFA midfielder Michael Kyei Dwamena after completing his three-year stint with the Kumasi-based club. Known for his tireless work rate and consistent presence in the midfield, Dwamena now becomes a free agent, drawing interest from several local clubs.

The team captain Frederick Asare has also left the camp of Asante Kotoko. The club announced his departure after unsuccessfull contract renewal and thanked him for his services since joining the club.

Nigerian striker Fernando Wisdom Bassey, who joined Kotoko from Sporting Lagos in August 2024, has also been released.

Despite going through pre-season with the squad and making 16 league appearances, he found the net only once.

His underwhelming form failed to meet expectations, prompting the club to end ties just a year into his arrival.

Also shown the exit door are Daniel Adrian Adjetey, Kwasi Asante, Samuel Tenadu, and Sampson Eduku all of whom joined during the second half of the season.

The quartet struggled to make a meaningful impact, and the technical team has declared them surplus to requirements.

These decisions, according to sources close to the club, are part of a broader restructuring project aimed at building a more competitive team ahead of the 2025/26 season, where Kotoko will be Ghana’s sole representative in the CAF Confederation Cup.

In the transfer market, the Porcupine Warriors are reportedly in advanced discussions with Hubert Gyau, Zakaria Fuseini, Francis Acquah, and other prospects as they look to strengthen key departments on the field.

Asante Kotoko lifted their 11th FA Cup title after a hard-fought win over Golden Kick SC, to book them ticket for CAF Confederation Cup competition ticket.

Mahama to host King Mswati III of Eswatini for State visit

0

President John Dramani Mahama will host His Majesty King Mswati III, Ingwenyama of the Kingdom of Eswatini, for a four-day state visit to Ghana from Tuesday, June 24 to Saturday, June 28, 2025.

King Mswati III is expected to arrive in Accra on Tuesday, where he will be officially received at the Presidency. He will hold bilateral discussions with President Mahama and a high-level Ghanaian delegation.

The talks are expected to culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ghana and Eswatini.

Later that afternoon, the King will visit the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Accra, before departing for Kumasi.

In Kumasi, His Majesty will be hosted by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. His itinerary in the Ashanti regional capital includes official visits to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), a tour of the Manhyia Palace Museum, and an address to the National House of Chiefs.

A grand durbar of chiefs in honour of King Mswati III will be held at the Manhyia Palace, culminating in a royal banquet on Friday evening.

On Saturday, the final day of the visit, King Mswati III will join the Asantehene at a special event at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), after which he will depart Ghana.

The visit is expected to deepen diplomatic and economic relations between Ghana and the Kingdom of Eswatini and reinforce the cultural and historical bonds between the Asante Kingdom and the southern African nation.

Let’s stay united and civil – Oppong Nkrumah urges ahead of NPP internal elections

0

Former Information Minister and Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has appealed to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct their internal campaigns with decorum as the party prepares for its upcoming flagbearer election.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah stressed the need for mutual respect among party faithful during the internal contest to ensure unity after the elections.

“We have come to a point where there will be internal competition. I want to plead that all the candidates are party people, so we should be mindful of our words and how we campaign,” he said.

He warned that insults and personal attacks could damage the party’s cohesion, making post-election reconciliation difficult.

“Let us air our views respectfully. If we destroy one another now, it will be hard to come together after the elections,” he cautioned.

The former Minister also highlighted the disparity in energy and resources often spent on internal contests versus general elections, urging members to focus on unity and purpose.

“We are electing our flagbearer. Let’s do it in harmony so that whoever is elected, we can all rally behind that person. Let’s stay united and civil for the sake of our victory,” he added.

The NPP is expected to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.

The 2025 Korea Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Tourism (KOPIST) Forum, held in Yeosu, South Korea, on June 16, 2025, brought together officials from eleven countries under the theme “Fostering Regional Development through Ecotourism.” Participating countries included Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Ghana, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Tanzania, Uganda, and Vietnam.

Ghana was represented by Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie and her delegation from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.

During the session on ecotourism development and sustainability, the Minister highlighted Community-Based Ecotourism (CBET) as a powerful tool for inclusive and sustainable tourism.

Citing the Boabeng-Fiema and Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuaries, she demonstrated how aligning traditional beliefs with ecotourism fosters both environmental conservation and community development.

The Minister also outlined key best practices, including equitable benefit-sharing, capacity building, and community ownership and governance, emphasizing their role in promoting transparency, empowerment, and long-term sustainability.

The Minister also acknowledged ongoing challenges such as limited funding and socio-cultural tensions. She called for stronger coordination and inclusive governance frameworks to address these issues effectively.

In a panel discussion on the topic “Local Culture and Ecotourism,” the Hon. Minister emphasized the significance of local culture in enhancing ecotourism.

She highlighted Ghana’s efforts to integrate traditional dance, crafts, cuisine, and oral histories into tourism strategies. Further proposals included climate adaptation measures for coastal communities, academic partnerships for training tour guides, and youth engagement through social media to promote responsible tourism.

She also advocated leveraging cultural assets such as Kente cloth through UNESCO heritage sites to both boost tourism and preserve Ghana’s cultural identity.

Ghana’s participation reaffirmed its leadership in advancing community-led, culturally grounded, and environmentally conscious tourism. The forum fostered collaboration and shared learning among KOPIST countries in pursuit of sustainable tourism development.

On the second day, the Hon. Minister embarked on a guided tour of key ecotourism sites in Suncheon, including the Suncheonman National Garden, the Suncheon Garden Worcation Center, and the Suncheonman Wetland featuring expansive tidal flats and reed fields.

The visit offered valuable insights into Korea’s innovative approaches to ecological conservation, sustainable tourism, and the integration of nature with community-centered experiences.

NPP’s Ali Suraj backs party’s decision to rebrand National Nasara Coordinator position

Alhaji Ali Suraj, Aspiring National Nasara Coordinator Alhaji Ali Suraj, Aspiring National Nasara Coordinator

A prominent member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Ali Suraj, has welcomed the proposal to rechristen the position of National Nasara Coordinator to National Nasara Organizer.

According to Alhaji Suraj, the new title better reflects the purpose and significance underpinning the foundation of this particular role within the NPP.

In a post, he argued that the new name would elevate the focus of the position to a more prominent and active one, moving beyond its traditionally passive perception.

He further stated that the change would promote unity and foster a sense of oneness among the various Zongo and settler communities within the NPP.

Read his post below:

Ali Suraj supports the proposal by the Nasara founding members to change the name from National Nasara Coordinator to National Nasara Organizer!

I fully support the amendment of Article 15(5a) of the party’s constitution, which currently limits the scope of the Nasara wing’s operations to only Zongo communities. The core mandate of the Nasara wing, from its inception as stipulated by the founding members, extends to all other settler communities.

The title Nasara Coordinator should be changed to Nasara and Settler Organizer to ensure better coordination with all other wings of the party, i.e., the Youth Wing and the Women’s Wing.

The Nasara wing, which started as the Nasara Club of the NPP, is now a full wing of the party—just like the Youth and Women’s Wings. These two wings have representation at the polling station level. As a political party focused on grassroots mobilization, representation at the polling station is crucial. Therefore, I support the call for Nasara Organizers to also be represented at the polling station level.

Furthermore, at least five of the founding members of Nasara should be granted voting rights in any internal election of the party. Additionally, one founding member should be given a seat on the National Council, and two should be represented on the Council of Elders.

The founding members of Nasara have contributed immensely to the growth and development of the party. Their rich experience cannot be underestimated—it is vital to making informed and strategic decisions that advance the party’s progress.

Let me know if you’d like this adapted into a press release or social media caption.

Ahafo Ano South MP voices out concerns about government’s meagre investment in the agricultural sector

Ahafo Ano South, Elvis Osei-Mensah Dapaah Ahafo Ano South, Elvis Osei-Mensah Dapaah

Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo Ano South, Elvis Osei-Mensah Dapaah, has raised concerns over the government’s insufficient investment in the agricultural sector, stressing its pivotal role in sustaining the country’s economy.

He made these remarks on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, while reflecting on the recent State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered on Thursday, February 27, 2025, in which President John Dramani Mahama highlighted the government’s investments in agriculture.

“I closely followed the President’s SONA, and upon reviewing the budget allocations, I realised the agricultural sector received only $1.5 billion, which I consider a peanut — a relatively small investment,” he stated.

In his view, the agricultural sector’s contribution to the national economy is invaluable, and the funds allocated to it are far too meagre. He further pointed out that the communication sector received more funding, despite agriculture’s greater importance.

“In Ghana, agriculture is the backbone of our economy, so that amount is too small. Even the communication sector received more money than agriculture,” he said.

He further accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of undermining national welfare through poor prioritisation.

“I feel my colleagues in the NDC don’t want Ghanaians to be happy. Today, if we, as a country, rely heavily on agriculture and yet invest so little in it, then in the near future, we may be forced to import food,” he cautioned.

He argued that a vibrant agricultural sector would position Ghana as a net food exporter, create employment opportunities for the youth, and ensure a more comfortable standard of living for citizens.

He also lamented the growing number of unemployed agricultural graduates from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), despite their technical expertise.

“There are many graduates from KNUST’s Faculty of Agriculture with expertise in rice, maize, and cassava farming, yet they are sitting at home jobless. Why don’t we invest in agriculture so the youth can also find employment?” he queried.

He called on the government to make substantial investments in the sector, describing agriculture as a lucrative source of national revenue.

“I studied agriculture at KNUST, so I understand what it entails. If the government prioritises agriculture, the unemployment rate will decline,” he concluded.

The 60 MPs believe Bawumia is NPP’s best bet for 2028 – Dominic Nitiwul

0

Former Defence Minister and Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Dominic Nitiwul, has revealed that 60 New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs have declared their support for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

According to Mr Nitiwul, the MPs personally invited Dr Bawumia to a meeting on Thursday, 19 June 2025, to affirm their belief that he is the right man to become the party’s next flagbearer.

“Yes, I was actually part of the MPs who have been holding regular meetings,” Mr Nitiwul said in an interview on JoyFM’s Top Story.

“I think two weeks ago, we held a meeting in Dr Bawumia’s office to give him our support, and today, we again invited him into our meeting to formally let him know that all these MPs that he sees—willingly, individually—have come to let him know that we believe he’s the person who can lead us to victory in 2028.”

He disclosed that the number of MPs attending the meeting had grown from 42 at the previous gathering to 60 this time, with expectations that more will join in the coming weeks.

“The number keeps growing every time. I believe that in two weeks, when we meet again, the number will further increase,” he noted.

A Growing Movement, Not a Closed Race

Responding to concerns that the growing support may present Dr Bawumia with an unfair advantage over other potential candidates, Mr Nitiwul clarified that not all MPs support the former Vice President.

“There are 28 MPs who were not part of the meeting—not because they don’t like the former Vice President—but because they support another person. We also accept that there are even MPs who, themselves, are running or have indicated that they will run,” he explained.

He acknowledged that Dr Bawumia would not secure 100% support, as there are other viable aspirants and internal party dynamics at play.

“So obviously, Dr Bawumia cannot get 100% or even 95% because there are many more MPs who are running, and they have supporters. But we, as MPs, have come to say that we believe this is the best.

We are not saying just because we are supporting him, he is going to win the elections. No. We are taking one step at a time,” Mr Nitiwul stated.

Bawumia’s Popularity Within the Caucus

Mr Nitiwul argued that the strong support base within the Parliamentary caucus speaks volumes.

“If you are a presidential candidate, and the representatives of the people—three-quarters of them—decide to say that they support you, you have one leg already moving towards victory,” he added.

Dr Bawumia, who served as Vice President from 2017 to 2025, remains one of the leading contenders in the NPP’s presidential primaries, scheduled for January 2026. His allies argue that he is best positioned to unify the party and mount a strong comeback to power in 2028.

Police holding back on collation over AG’s pending advice – EC

0

The Electoral Commission (EC) has attributed the delay in completing the collation of parliamentary election results in the Ablekuma North Constituency to the absence of legal advice from the Attorney General’s Department.

Deputy Chairperson of the EC, Dr. Bossman Asare, made the disclosure on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, June 19, during a briefing on the status of the stalled collation process and the Commission’s intended next steps.

He explained that the Commission had taken several steps to complete the process but has been stalled due to the absence of security support, which is dependent on legal clarification from the Attorney General and the Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine.

“On 28th March, the Commission again wrote to the Ghana Police Service and informed them about the three polling station results which are still outstanding and the need to complete collation. In the same letter, the Commission requested a meeting at the earliest convenience of the security taskforce to agree on a date for the completion of the collation,” Dr. Asare noted.

According to him, at a scheduled meeting on April 10, 2025, the Commission was informed that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) had travelled to Bawku due to a conflict and would be briefed on the issue upon his return. Subsequently, the Commission wrote again to the Election Security Taskforce on May 2, 2025, requesting a meeting on May 8 to deliberate further on the collation.

“At the scheduled meeting on the 8th May 2025, the collation process was scheduled to be completed on 15th May 2025 at the old quarters of the Commission,” he added.

However, just two days before the scheduled date, the Police invited the EC to a meeting on May 13, where they revealed that a case regarding the Ablekuma North Constituency was pending before the Supreme Court. As a result, the Police stated they could not provide security for the EC to complete the collation, arguing that doing so could amount to contempt of court.

In response, the Commission wrote a letter dated May 15, 2025, to the Ghana Police Service and the National Security Taskforce, clarifying that no injunction or legal process was preventing the EC from completing the collation. They also requested protection and proposed a follow-up meeting on May 16 to agree on a new date for the process.

Despite these efforts, the Commission was informed that the matter had been referred to the Attorney General for legal advice. The Police and National Security Taskforce said they would only act upon receiving legal direction from the AG.

“…In the letter, the commission requested a meeting the next day, that is 16th May, to agree on a date for the completion of the election. The National Police Service and the National Security Taskforce in a response informed the commission that the issue of the completion of the collation of the Ablekuma North election has been referred to the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice for legal advice and further stated that because of the referral the National Security Taskforce will hold on until the legal advice is received. Since then, we have followed up with the police, and they have indicated they have not received advice from the AG.”

President Mahama, judiciary doing a good job – Samini declares

Award-winning dancehall artiste, Samini Award-winning dancehall artiste, Samini

Renowned Ghanaian dancehall artiste Samini has lauded President John Dramani Mahama and the judiciary for their “bold steps” to hold public office holders accountable for the finances of the state.

Speaking during his appearance on the first episode of PrimeTime with George Quaye on Joy Prime, the “My Own” hitmaker described himself as “a happy Ghanaian” over the recent prosecution of several high-profile individuals in cases of embezzlement and money laundering.

“As I speak to you currently, what we are seeing… I’m a happy Ghanaian,” Samini said. “I like the fact that people are being brought to book and justice is being served, or it seems like it is. Things like that, I am for.”

He stated that his support of government is based on the value-driven, not party-affiliated, “If you are put in public office, it’s your responsibility to serve Ghana, and do anything dubious, you should be brought to book. I like that. Things like that, we like to see… That’s how we build a better Ghana.”

When asked whether President Mahama and his government are doing well, Samini responded, “The President and judicial system are doing a good job so far. That’s the area I’ve seen a lot of action. Anything else, I think it’s too early to throw too much light on.”

Samini also expressed openness to supporting other parties based on their governance credibility: “If the New Force comes up with policies that I like. I’ll definitely go for that.”

MPs ignore presidential rivals’ provocative attacks; pledge loyalty to Bawumia

NPP MPs choose Dr Mahamudu Bawumia amidst verbal attacks from party’s presidential aspirants NPP MPs choose Dr Mahamudu Bawumia amidst verbal attacks from party’s presidential aspirants

A wave of solidarity swept through the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as dozens of Members of Parliament thronged the residence of former Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to declare their unwavering support for his presidential bid—an emphatic response to recent provocative attacks on him by some rival aspirants.

The MPs’ visit, seen as a show of defiance against divisive rhetoric, comes in the wake of sharp criticisms from presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, who accused Dr. Bawumia of underperforming in the 2024 general elections.

His public outburst which flouted the party’s directive for aspirants to avoid premature campaigning and personal attacks has sparked widespread concern among party loyalists.

At a recent National Council meeting held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, the NPP resolved to adopt a bottom-up approach to internal elections as a strategy to restoring calm and unity within the party.

The decision comes amid rising tensions and growing fears of factionalism that threaten the party’s cohesion ahead of the 2026 polls.

Political watchers believe the backlash against the verbal attacks on Dr. Bawumia catalyzed the MPs’ visit which many people interpret as both a public endorsement and a symbolic rebuke of attempts to discredit his candidacy.

In an emotional address, Dr. Bawumia thanked the MPs for their overwhelming show of support and singled out Hon. Kofi Ampratwum-Sarpong, MP for Mampong, for organizing the delegation.

He reaffirmed his commitment to leading a united, forward-looking NPP ready to win power and deliver results.

The development marks a significant moment in the party’s flagbearer race and signals a growing consolidation.

Sammi Awuku calls for legislative action to support deaf education in Ghana

0

The Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, Sammi Awuku has made a passionate appeal to the House to address the urgent needs of deaf students in Ghana, following a recent engagement with students and staff of the Senior High Technical School for the Deaf in Mampong.

Delivering a statement on the floor of Parliament, the MP for Akuapem North described the visit—organised by Parliament’s Department of Public Engagement—as a powerful reminder of the need for inclusive dialogue and meaningful democratic participation.

“The encounter provided a platform for students living with hearing impairments to interact directly with legislators and provide them with a real-world understanding of how Parliament works, including ways through which they can actively participate,” the MP noted.

The engagement, which featured contributions from several MPs including Hon. Fred Agbenyo, Hon. Edem Agbana, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Hon. Shirley Kyei, and Hon. Wallace Pele, revealed serious systemic challenges affecting the education and welfare of deaf learners in Ghana.

Urgent Need for Legislative Framework

Foremost among the concerns raised was the lack of a dedicated legislative framework for deaf education. The MP highlighted that the country’s only Senior High Technical School for the Deaf currently operates without legal backing to secure consistent funding, policy direction, and institutional support.

“This gap leaves the school vulnerable to inconsistent budgetary allocations, administrative neglect, and limited infrastructural development,” the MP warned, linking the issue to Ghana’s commitments under Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) on inclusive education.

Infrastructure and Safety Concerns

The school’s divided campus layout was also raised as a critical safety issue. Students must cross busy roads multiple times a day to access meals and classes, often relying on taxis to transport food between campuses—an unreliable system that has led to delays and hunger.

The MP called on the Ministry of Education, with Parliament’s backing, to construct a centralised dining hall and take steps to unify the school’s learning environment.

Curriculum Reform and Teacher Support

Teachers at the school shared concerns that the national curriculum does not adequately cater to the needs of deaf learners. Many lessons require repetition due to comprehension delays, and current assessment structures fail to reflect the learning realities of students with hearing impairments.

The students proposed key reforms, including:

  • Sign language-based instructional materials

  • Visual learning tools

  • Simplified content structures

  • Extended teaching and assessment time

They also called for more trained sign language interpreters, special learning aids, and enhanced professional development for educators.

“Parliament must ensure that inclusive education becomes a practical reality rather than a theoretical aspiration,” the MP urged.

The statement also noted that teachers at the school are overburdened and under-resourced, often providing psychological and emotional support without specialised incentives or adequate housing. The students proposed an “emotional allowance” for their teachers, similar to that provided to educators in underserved rural areas.

Access to Justice and Legal Inclusion

Another pressing concern raised was the exclusion of deaf individuals from Ghana’s justice system. Students recounted challenges in reporting crimes or navigating legal processes due to the lack of trained sign language interpreters at police stations and in courtrooms.

“This gap is a violation of basic human rights and contradicts SDG 10, which calls for the social, economic, and political inclusion of all people, regardless of disability,” the MP stated.

To address this, the MP recommended legislation mandating all public legal and justice institutions to provide accessible services for the deaf.

Recognition of Ghanaian Sign Language

In one of the most progressive proposals of the day, the students called on Parliament to officially recognise Ghanaian Sign Language as a national language. They cited international examples—including South Africa, Kenya, and Uganda—and referenced Article 21 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which supports the recognition and promotion of sign languages.

“Such recognition would affirm the identity of deaf citizens, improve public understanding, and foster greater national cohesion,” the MP said.

Proposed Interventions and Parliamentary Action

To move from dialogue to action, the MP proposed the following steps:

  1. Referral of the statement to a joint sitting of the Committees on Education; Gender, Children and Social Protection; and Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

  2. Introduction of a Public or Private Member’s Bill to establish dedicated funding, national standards, and legal obligations for inclusive education.

  3. Oversight to ensure that the District Assemblies Common Fund for Persons with Disabilities benefits institutions like the School for the Deaf.

  4. An infrastructure audit of special needs schools, with a plan for upgrades and staff housing.

  5. A motion mandating legal institutions to provide sign language interpretation.

  6. Annual reporting from the Ministry of Education on the state of special needs education, including enrolment, curriculum delivery, teacher retention, and infrastructure.

A Call to Conscience

Mr Awuku concluded with a stirring call to action, urging the House to listen not only with its ears but with its conscience.

“The students of the Senior High Technical School for the Deaf in Mampong are not asking for sympathy. They are asking for fairness and equity… Let this House be remembered as the Parliament that listened not just with its ears, but with its conscience.”

“May the deliberations that follow bring about real change—not just for the students who spoke, but for all marginalised communities in Ghana.”

I’m not a fraud boy, my success is from music – Shatta Wale on FBI arrest of ‘friends’

0

Controversial Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale has come out to defend his reputation after being linked to fraudulent activities.

The controversy arose following the arrest of several Ghanaian individuals, including his associate Isaac Kofi Oduro Boateng (Kofi Boat), by the FBI for alleged involvement in romance and inheritance scams.

In a video sighted by Graphic Showbiz, Shatta Wale maintained that his success stems solely from his music career, asserting, “I’m a clean boy; my success is from music.”

The Kakai hit-maker vehemently denied the rumours, claiming that he was being unfairly targeted.

He believes the claims stem from jealousy, citing unfair comparisons to less successful musicians.

Shatta Wale maintains his reputation, emphasizing his hard work in the music industry as the source of his success.

“You people are watching my life, and anytime there is an issue in Ghana, you like to drag me into it.

“You guys are making a mistake with my name. I am a very clean boy. Just because your artiste, your industry favourite, cannot pull the kind of things I can pull, you assume I am into fraud. You are free to tell people I am into fraud.

“One thing the white people coming here do is that they research. They are not stupid. They saw my Rolls-Royce and knew how I acquired the funds to purchase it. It’s music money. It’s not fraud; it’s hard work and dedication. So don’t make a mistake,” he said.

On Wednesday, June 18, Graphic Online reported that three separate indictments involving Ghanaian nationals have been unsealed in the United States, as part of a sweeping federal crackdown on transnational romance fraud schemes targeting elderly Americans. The U.S. Department of Justice announced the developments in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, highlighting the efforts of law enforcement agencies to dismantle criminal networks that prey on vulnerable seniors.

Among those charged is Ghanaian citizen Joseph Kwadwo Badu Boateng, also known as “Dada Joe Remix”, who was indicted in the District of Arizona on May 30, 2025. According to U.S. court documents, Boateng and his co-conspirators ran a romance and inheritance scam from 2013 to 2023.

The scheme involved tricking elderly victims into believing that gold and jewels were being held for them, but could only be released after the payment of fictitious taxes and fees.

It’s a shame Ablekuma North has no MP – Nimako

0

The Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Nimako, has expressed disappointment over the Electoral Commission’s delay in declaring the parliamentary results for the Ablekuma North Constituency, describing the situation as shameful.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Thursday, June 19, he questioned the inability of the Electoral Commission (EC) to finalise the collation process months after the 2024 general election.

“We do not see why it is difficult for the Electoral Commission to complete this exercise. It is not the best. It is a shame that we do not have a Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North,” he said.

Mr. Nimako also raised concerns about the lack of accountability following the disruption of the collation process on December 8, 2024, when electoral materials were reportedly destroyed by unidentified individuals.

“What is intriguing is that on the day of collation, on the 8th of December 2024, some men decided to destroy electoral material, yet the police have been unable to arrest and conduct an investigation for these people to be prosecuted, and that for me is a big shame,” he added.

However, the Electoral Commission has attributed the delay to the absence of legal advice from the Attorney General’s Department. The EC insists that it has made efforts to complete the process but has been unable to proceed due to the lack of security protection.

The Commission explained that the Ghana Police Service and National Security Taskforce have refused to provide the needed security until they receive legal clearance from the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine.

The Electoral Commission has, however, reiterated its readiness to complete the process as soon as security support is provided.

NPP vows to enforce discipline ahead of January 2026 presidential primary

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pledged to uphold strict internal discipline and ensure a sanitised political atmosphere in the lead-up to its presidential primaries scheduled for 31st January 2026.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Thursday, 19th June, Deputy General Secretary of the party, Haruna Mohammed, disclosed that the party’s National Council has formally adopted a motion confirming the date for the primaries. He further noted that detailed guidelines to govern the process will be announced in due course.

“The party has issued a statement indicating a decision that was made by the National Council, per a motion that was moved and adopted by Council for presidential primaries to be done,” he stated.

Mr Mohammed explained that, in line with party tradition, the NPP will publish the specific rules of engagement for the primaries following its upcoming National Congress on 19th July.

“In every presidential primaries, or any parliamentary primaries, or any elections in the party, we come out with the rules of the game,” he said.

“In July, when we finish with the Congress on the 19th, we’ll be issuing the directive for the election and opening of nominations for the presidential primaries.”

He also indicated that the party leadership is actively monitoring media appearances and political commentary from its members and affiliates, especially those backing presidential hopefuls.

“We were asked to make sure that we crack the whip. We ensure that there is sanity within the party. There is also discipline within the party,” he emphasised.

EC didn’t breach procurement procedures in reprinting leaked ballot papers – Dr Bossman Asare

Dr Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Dr Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission

The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Dr Bossman Asare, has dismissed allegations that the Commission violated procurement regulations in the reprinting of ballot papers for the 2024 general elections, following a reported leakage.

Addressing Parliament on Thursday, June 19, 2025, he stated that the Commission followed due process and secured the necessary approval from the Central Tender Review Committee (CTRC) before engaging the selected printing houses.

“There was no breach of the procurement law. The Commission wrote to the CTRC on December 2, 2024, and the elections were supposed to take place on December 7,” he explained.

Dr Asare further clarified that the CTRC had already approved the printing houses and the regions they were responsible for, hence the Commission did not need to go through the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) again.

“It was only appropriate that when we had to withdraw ballots for the Eastern and Central Regions, we had to go back to the same organization that permitted us to engage these printing houses,” he noted.

According to him, the time constraints following the leakage required swift action.

He recounted that the issue emerged on Friday, November 29, 2024, and by Sunday, December 1, 2024, a meeting was held with political parties to address the matter.

“In that meeting, the EC, together with the parties, identified three printers who would be able to do the work within the time available. We had to reschedule the special voting for these two regions. So, while all the other 14 regions were having a special voting, we had to reschedule for these particular two regions,” he stated.

The Deputy Chairperson maintained that the Commission acted transparently and within the limits of the law in response to the emergency.

Ken Agyapong meets 268 former MMDCEs, declares presidential ambition

In a bold political move aimed at solidifying his base ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has officially declared his intention to contest for the party’s flagbearership.

The former Member of Parliament and businessman made the announcement during a closed-door meeting with 268 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) at his private office in Accra.

The engagement, described by political observers as a strategic show of force, saw Mr. Agyapong outline his vision for Ghana, centered on job creation, economic empowerment, and radical decentralisation of governance.

“As of now, I employ over 7,500 Ghanaians across my businesses. My steel factory is logistically complete, we’re only waiting on electricity from GRIDCo. Once operational, it will provide an additional 1,000 jobs. This is the kind of practical leader you need to lead this country,” he told the gathering.

Agyapong also criticised the centralisation of power under the previous administration, saying it weakened the ability of MMDCEs to serve their communities effectively.

“You could not even award contracts or initiate projects that directly responded to the needs of your people. Everything was controlled from Accra,” he said, pledging to give MMDCEs greater autonomy under his leadership.

Addressing what he described as misconceptions about his public image, the outspoken politician urged the MMDCEs to judge him by his record, not media portrayals.

The meeting took an emotional turn when the MMDCEs, visibly energised by his remarks, spontaneously erupted into chants of “wo yɛ yɛ yaa, Ken bɛba!” — to wit, “You can’t stop Ken from coming.” The chant signaled strong grassroots support for Ken Agyapong’s candidacy.

Several former MMDCEs at the event pledged their support for his presidential bid, describing him as a transformational leader who understands both governance and enterprise.

Yaw Nsarkoh slams Ghana’s ‘Santa Claus Democracy’, warns against over-monetised politics

0

Former Executive Vice-President of Global Markets at Unilever, Mr Yaw Nsarkoh, has issued some alarming critiques of the country’s current political culture, describing it as a “Santa Claus Democracy”.

According to him, the current system of politics in the country is plagued by over-monetisation, shallow electoral cycles, and eroding civic purpose.

Speaking at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences’s occasional lecture 2025, on the theme “Iniquities of Iniquity in Our Santa Claus Democracy”, Mr Nsarkoh lamented how the democratic process has devolved into what he called a “public auction for the highest bidder”, where the electorate is reduced to mere ballots rather than active participants in governance.

“When politics becomes a high-cost, cyclical, and over-monetised ritual, citizens cease to matter as sovereign voices. Instead, they are bribed and swayed with gifts during elections by politicians who vanish soon after,” he said. “What results is not true democracy, but a transactional machine that rewards patronage and punishes principle.”

He argued that the expectation for elected officials to frequently attend social events such as funerals, naming ceremonies, and festivals bearing gifts, despite their modest official salaries, encourages a short-term, expedient style of governance that is incompatible with serious, long-term development.

“The people extract their pound of flesh this way,” he noted, “and what is born is a politics that delivers nothing enduring but thrives on appearance and largesse.”

Mr. Nsarkoh warned that over-monetisation of governance undermines the very fabric of democratic institutions.

He stated that this erosion is not exclusive to democracy alone, but weakens any system of governance, be it socialism, capitalism, or even dictatorship.

Citing troubling statistics, he pointed out that over 6.9 million Ghanaians live in extreme poverty, roughly 20% of the population. The housing deficit stands at nearly two million units, while 18% of the population still practises open defecation, in stark contrast to countries like Rwanda, where it has been almost eradicated. Ghana’s protein intake, he added, is 30% lower than the average of OECD countries.

He also remarked on the nation’s increasing religiosity amid economic despair, noting that church attendance has risen from 60% in 2000 to 72% in 2025. “We may not have much Abɛnkyi, but we certainly have plenty Hallelujah,” he observed pointedly.

Drawing from the late management scholar Sumantra Ghoshal’s concept of the “smell of the place”, Mr Nsarkoh described Ghana’s current political atmosphere as one where decay and dysfunction have replaced idealism and accountability.

He concluded by invoking the words of African philosopher Paulin Hountondji, stressing the importance of fostering open, inclusive dialogue in order to rebuild democratic legitimacy and reclaim the soul of governance.

Think beyond small scale – Absa’s William Nettey to Agribusinesses

0

Head of Agribusiness at Absa Bank Ghana, William Nettey, has called for a deliberate shift from Ghana’s overreliance on smallholder farmers to building stronger, growth-oriented agribusinesses.

Speaking at the Citi Business Festival Agribusiness Forum on Thursday, June 19, Mr. Nettey said agribusinesses must focus on a clear drive for expansion, noting that smallholder models alone cannot deliver the industrial-level transformation needed in the sector.

“And this is what we need to do, that we get stronger and bigger businesses. I think that we should try gradually and move away from the small holder, small holder, everyday small holder,” he stated.

He illustrated his point with a success story from Absa’s portfolio: an egg seller who received a GH¢90,000 facility and grew the business to GH¢1 million in less than three years, now actively involved in processing rather than basic distribution.

“I have seen people move, and they come to us and we’ve given them 90,000. As of now, two, three years, they are at 1 million. They started with selling eggs — just go and pick eggs, go and give, pick, go and give. Then he came [and asked], what can you do for me? 90,000, that’s all I can do for you. He said, fine, I will take it. He took it, did what he wanted to do. Now he is at 1 million. And he’s not just even going to pick eggs and just go… like he is processing. So there are stories.”

Mr. Nettey’s remarks formed part of a larger conversation around unlocking Ghana’s agribusiness potential at the 2025 Citi Business Festival Agribusiness Forum, themed “Harnessing Agribusiness Potential for Economic Growth: Expanding Agricultural Frontiers and Maximising Productivity in Ghana.”

The forum convened key stakeholders from finance, policy, and agriculture to discuss strategies to boost productivity, agro-processing, and agribusiness competitiveness.

Four public officials charged with corruption over seized rice containers

Bags of rice being carted at the Tema Port Bags of rice being carted at the Tema Port

Issah Seidu, James Keck Osei, John Abban, and Peter Archibold Hyde have been formally charged with corruption after allegedly conspiring to hijack ten containers of imported rice at Tema Port.

The rice, imported from Thailand in 2022, was fraudulently claimed by Seidu using fake documents and a letter falsely issued from the Office of the Vice President.

Seidu, who works with the National Insurance Commission, and Osei, a former Director at the Vice President’s Secretariat, allegedly teamed up with two senior Customs officials—Abban and Hyde—to override customs processes and secure the goods.

Despite the rice being legally imported and duties paid, the group tried to auction the containers to Seidu. Their plot collapsed after internal investigations and a High Court ruling exposed the scheme.

The four are due in court on Friday, 27 June 2025.

Ablekuma North: Help us get police protection to finish collation

0

The Electoral Commission (EC) has formally appealed to Parliament to intervene and facilitate security support from the Ghana Police Service to enable it to complete the long-delayed collation of results in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Appearing before Parliament on Thursday, June 19, Deputy EC Chairperson, responsible for Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, emphasised the Commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability throughout the electoral process, but warned that without adequate security, efforts to finalise the collation could remain stalled.

“Mr. Speaker, the collation has been transparent. As a Commission, we are desirous of ensuring that the people of Ablekuma North have a representation in Parliament,” Dr. Asare told lawmakers.

He added: “We urge this Honourable House to assist us in getting the support of the Ghana Police Service to provide the requisite protection to enable us complete this collation exercise.”

The plea comes amid rising political tensions and months of impasse following the December 2024 general elections. The collation of parliamentary results in Ablekuma North has remained incomplete, prompting growing concerns from constituents and political stakeholders alike.

Dr. Asare was unequivocal in defending the integrity of the process so far, stating that representatives of both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), along with the media, had been present and involved at every stage.

“The process has been transparent, participatory and accountable. The agents of the NPP and NDC have always been present throughout the collation as well as the media. The evidence of what transpired from the 9th of December was captured by the media. And this shows a transparent process devoid of bias and it was open,” he explained.

He added that both political parties had agreed to the use of scanned pink sheets, and their agents had formally approved the materials used in the process.

Despite these measures, the EC has been unable to complete the collation due to unresolved security concerns.

The Commission is now relying on Parliament to help secure the cooperation of the police to protect EC officials, party agents and stakeholders involved in finalising the exercise.

Dr. Asare’s appearance before the House follows persistent calls for clarity on the status of Ablekuma North’s representation in Parliament—an issue that remains unresolved more than six months after the national elections.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has ruled out a re-run of the 2024 parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North constituency in Greater Accra.

According to the EC, the results from three outstanding polling stations can still be collated.

Responding to questions on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, June 19, the Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, clarified that a re-run remains a last resort.

“So, for Ablekuma North, we have not reached the point where we will say we don’t have the results. When we try and we cannot get the results, that is when we will resort to the rerun. The rerun will be a last option,” he said.
