Four officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) stationed at the Nadowli-Kaleo District office and two civilians have been remanded into police custody by the Wa District Court for their alleged involvement in the death of a 38-year-old farmer, Patrick Banoebuuri.
While the immigration officers were charged for murder, the two civilians were charged for abetment of crime.
Their pleas were not taken, and they are to reappear on March 17, 2025.
The four immigration officers are Senior Inspector Philip Adjei Boadi, 36; Assistant Immigration Control Officer (AICOII) Abdul Rawuf Abubakar, 22; AICOII Alex Nkrumah, 33; and AICO II Philip Oppong, 28, who were all charged with murder.
The two civilians are Pogee Antaa Julius, age not indicated, and Logu Seidu, 49, who have been charged with abetment of crime, to wit murder.
The court presided over by Maxwell Maxibriant Titriku, remanded them into police custody and adjourned the case to March 17, 2025 to allow the prosecution more time to complete its investigation.
The facts as presented to the court by the prosecution were that on March 6, 2025, Mr Banoebuuri, was alleged to have stolen 18 sheep and was arrested by members of the community.
The prosecution said 14 out of the 18 sheep were recovered, and he was thus set free.
However, on March 7, 2025, Pogee Antaa Julius, who is the Unit Community Chairman, led a group of people from Naro to the house of Mr Banoebuuri at Peeri-Kaangu, both communities within the Nadowli-Kaleo District, to apprehend him for failing to produce the remaining four sheep.
He was handed over to the four immigration officers who were on duty at the Naro checkpoint.
“They received him in good health and took him through ‘frog jump’ in the course of which he died,” said the prosecution.
The complainant in the case, Richard Banoebuuri, reported the case to the police for investigation, and the police proceeded to the scene and found the lifeless body lying at the GIS checkpoint at Naro covered with tent fabric and kept behind a zinc bathroom.
The body was conveyed to the Wa Regional Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

Accra, March 15, GNA – Dr Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, the Minister of Labour, Jobs, and Employment, has reaffirmed the government of Ghana’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to address key labour issues and promote decent work in Ghana.
Dr Pelpuo made the remarks during a courtesy call on him in Accra by Dr Vanessa Phala-Moyo, Country Director for the ILO Office covering Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and the ECOWAS Liaison Office.
Dr Pelpuo highlighted the longstanding partnership between Ghana and the ILO. He commended the ILO for its role in improving labour conditions and aligning Ghana’s labour policies with international standards.
The Ministry in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said the Minister outlined critical areas where the ILO’s support would be instrumental, including finalizing the Labour Bill, 2024 to ensure a comprehensive legal framework for labour relations and reviewing the National Employment Policy to reflect current labour market realities.
Others are interventions to eradicate child labour and ensure the protection of vulnerable workers and ratification of key labour conventions to strengthen Ghana’s commitment to global labour standards.
Dr Phala-Moyo, who was accompanied by National Project Officers overseeing various ILO interventions in Ghana, briefed the Minister on ongoing projects and areas for future collaboration.
Discussions centered on the finalization of the Labour Bill, 2024, the development of Decent Work Country Programme III, the elimination of child labour, and strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
Other key topics included Ghana’s participation in fair trade dialogue, the promotion of occupational safety and health (OSH), and the enhancement of labour rights and working conditions.
Dr Pelpuo emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a labour-friendly environment that promotes job creation and economic growth.
He welcomed continuous collaboration with the ILO and expressed optimism that the partnership would be impactful for workers and employers across the country.
Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for his perceived inaction during incidents of post-election violence.
Ahiagbah described Dampare’s silence during this critical period as a significant stain on his record.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, he stated: “If you saw immediately after the election, the violence that was happening and we having an IGP and the silence that came after the election when it was clear the NDC has won.
“He completely went into hiding because he didn’t want to do anything and rub anybody the wrong way.
“So he took a hiding and for me is a dent on his record.”

2025 budget has good prospects, let’s be patient – Economist to Ghanaians
Former Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr Stephen Amoah has acknowledged that some aspects of the 2025 Budget presented by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, if effectively implemented, could significantly benefit the country.
He has some reservations, however, about some aspects of the budget.
Mr. Amoah made these comments during an appearance onNewsfile on JoyNews on Saturday, March 15.
He said, “There are many aspects of the budget with which I disagree, but there are a few that, if implemented properly, could help us.”
He added, “Let’s wait and see. I am not saying this in anticipation of a negative outcome; I want to see the implementation, the fulfilment, and adherence to the plans.”
The legislator for Nhyiaeso in Kumasi, Ashanti region also argued that “Some of the government’s expenditure patterns, particularly when it comes to government machinery, don’t necessarily reflect a government that is cautious about spending.”
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions regarding the budget’s potential impact on the country’s economy and its citizens.
The 2025 budget has sparked intense debate, with various stakeholders examining its ability to address key national challenges, including economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare.

The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has called on the Mahama-led administration to implement stringent measures to address the widespread power outages, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor,’ affecting the nation.
His remarks come in response to the ongoing power outages, which have sparked numerous complaints from Ghanaians.
Afenyo-Markin stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has been in office for less than three months, yet the country is already grappling with dumsor.
“We are barely three months into office under this new administration, and we don’t expect dumsor to return,” he said.
During parliamentary proceedings on March 14, 2025, while discussing the dismissal of Dr. Akuffo Dampare as Ghana’s Inspector General of Police, Afenyo-Markin urged the government to channel the same vigour it demonstrated in removing the IGP into tackling the power crisis.
He emphasised the urgency of taking action to resolve the issue.
“Yesterday, we heard about the sacking of IGP Dampare. The president dismissed him, and COP Yohuno is taking over. The statement from the government spokesperson and the Minister in charge of Government Communication did not express any gratitude for his service.
“The statement simply announced that the president had made a new appointment. The IGP was dismissed yesterday, and there will be a swearing-in tomorrow. Mr. Speaker, during the business statement, I expected the honourable member presenting it to address the electricity situation,” he said.
Afenyo-Markin also highlighted the power outages affecting various regions across Ghana, emphasizing their negative impact.
He claimed that many people are suffering in their homes, students are unable to study, and businesses are already on the brink of collapse due to these interruptions.
As a matter of urgency, he called on the energy minister to present a comprehensive report on the power outage schedule to enable citizens to plan their daily activities effectively.
“Yes, Mr. Speaker, I read about the Electricity Company of Ghana’s scheduled outages on March 11 and 12 across Ashanti, Volta, Greater Accra, and Tema, while unscheduled blackouts, with some lasting 24 hours, were also reported.
“Mr. Speaker, these frequent power outages are disrupting businesses and students’ studies. I urge the Minister of Energy to come to this house and provide a clear schedule, and this can only happen if the leader of government business takes the matter seriously,” he added.

Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng
The Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, has denied reports of his arrest by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
Speaking to his congregation in a video shared by Asaase Radio on X on Saturday, March 15, 2025, Rev. Kusi Boateng stated that he had not been arrested.
“They are saying I tried to abscond, but who am I running from? I’m a law-abiding citizen, and I have not stolen from anyone, so why would I run?
“And now, people are claiming I’ve been arrested. How can someone who has been arrested be standing here? Maybe they arrested my ghost,” he remarked in Twi.
He went on to express concern over the increasing spread of misinformation, lamenting that dishonesty has become widespread, even among pastors.
“What has the world come to? It is now full of liars. Pastors are lying, and their congregants are doing the same… What kind of world is this?” he said.
Rev. Kusi Boateng clarified that he had only met with security officials regarding the National Cathedral project after returning to Ghana, insisting that he was never arrested while attempting to flee the country.
“I travelled and returned yesterday. When I arrived, I was informed that some people were accusing me of stealing money from the National Cathedral project and claiming I was being sought after.
“I spent only a few minutes where I went to discuss the matter, yet people are saying I was arrested while trying to escape from Ghana. What kind of generation is this?”
Background:
Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng was reported to have been arrested by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) over an alleged double identity scandal.
According to a report by Citi Newsroom, the embattled pastor was assisting with investigations.
In a 2023 exposé, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu and current Foreign Affairs Minister, alleged that Rev. Kusi Boateng had multiple passports under different identities.
“From unassailable and irreproachable documents in my possession, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, AKA Kwabena Adu Gyamfi, uses multiple passports and multiple identification cards with different names and different dates of birth as his special modus operandi,” Ablakwa claimed in a Facebook post.
He further alleged that JNS Talent Centre Ltd, a company owned by Rev. Kusi Boateng received GH¢2.6 million for the construction of the National Cathedral under the pseudonym Kwabena Adu Gyamfi.
Ablakwa maintained that documents in his possession confirmed that Kwabena Adu Gyamfi and Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng are the same person.
Despite these allegations, Boateng continues to serve on the National Cathedral Board as an Executive Council Member and Director.
On Thursday, July 13, 2024, the Human Rights Court dismissed an application by Rev. Kusi Boateng seeking to restrain MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa from discussing him in connection with the National Cathedral.
Although the specific allegations against him remain unclear, insider sources suggest that authorities are investigating his dual identity.

Celebrity Ghanaian media personality Afua Asantewaa has been caught pants down over claims she was only given sore throat medicine during her first Guinness World Record Singathon attempt in Accra.
Contrary claims about a litany of donations made to her and her husband during the event continue to emerge from persons within the New Patriotic Party(NPP) who either extended such gestures on their own accord or on behalf of their superiors.
Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has shed light on the tense relationship between former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and his then-deputy, now IGP, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
Ahiagbah’s remarks follow Yohuno’s recent appointment as the new IGP.
“I know about some friction between them, almost where he relegated the now IGP to the background,” Ahiagbah stated on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, describing their working relationship as less than ideal.
“Their working relationship was a bit frosty, and it wasn’t the best, and so Karma is such a thing—now he is the boss,” he added.
He emphasized the need for unity and collaboration moving forward, urging Dr. Dampare to support Yohuno in his new role.
“It’s time for him to take a back seat for the new IGP to do his work. I expect that he will give him full support,” he stated.

2025 Budget necessary but hinges on big bets – Joe Jackson
A viral video featuring a man, Fatai Odunsi, who claims to be the father of popular artist, Asake, has stirred controversy on social media since the early hours of Friday, March 14. In the video, Odunsi claimed he had not seen Asake since 2022, when his health began to deteriorate, and he now felt the need to seek help publicly. He pleaded with Nigerians for financial assistance, revealing that he has been battling a stroke since 2022. He further alleged that despite Asake’s fame and success, the singer has not been financially supportive of him.
“I am Asake’s father. I gave birth to him. I gave birth to Asake, Ahmed, the singer. Babatunde Ololade Odunsin, Mr. Money. Since I had a stroke, I haven’t seen him. The last time I saw him was March 29, 2022. He doesn’t pick my calls when I call him. Please, I only need your help,” Odunsi said.
Responding in a video, Asake was seen singing in Yoruba, seemingly addressing the controversy. The lyrics of his song conveyed a message about staying true to himself despite external pressures. He sang, “You can’t please the world. Whatever you do, do it for God and always remember the day you’ll die and meet your God. My people, can you see how it’s going? Even my father wants to cajole me, but I stand firm and they can’t off my light. I used to press money for him and I do it with one mind. If you strike, I will move on. No one can quench my fire. God is the one that is taking me ahead in life.”
Meanwhile, a prominent showbiz personality who spoke to Saturday Beats anonymously on Friday, alleged that Asake had not been caring for his father, whom he referred to as “Malo.” The source also claimed that Asake has a child who has been under Malo’s care since birth, and the child recently turned a year older on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. The source further stated that the only things Asake had ever given his father were a Lexus car and an apartment on Lagos Island, with the rent set to expire in December 2025.
Also reacting to the viral post, Asake’s ex-manager, Tunde Phoenix, criticised the singer’s alleged abandonment of his father, writing, “Operation GoFundMe for your favorite’s Papa. Please help us find that old man, his seed won’t listen. He abandons people who have helped him. Even if they left you, should you act like them when God has blessed you beyond your wildest dreams? A heart of a man reveals all you need to know. Please find Papa, let’s get him the help he needs. These children have the audacity.”
In another post, he further condemned Asake’s actions, adding, “One by one, God will show you who they are. Not my words anymore. Go and pick Papi up. We don’t care if he left as a child, in fact, I believe that man over anything you will say. If you don’t, we will handle your responsibilities for you and do a full interview with him to give us all the truths the masses want to know. You are a public figure. Get PR girl, put a statement together or I will. PS: PR girl is a vibe. Love her, I would definitely date her, she has a good heart but keeps bad company.”
The controversy continues to fuel online debates, with many Nigerians sharing their perspectives on the family dispute.
Reacting to Odunsi’s video, Sulaimon Alade recounted his past interactions with Asake and his father, writing, “I was Asake’s teacher when he was in nursery school, right in front of my family house (Ile Atapupa or Ile Oni Gelede at No. 70 Ojuolokun Street, Isale Eko, Lagos). Back then, I worked with my brother, Musbau Teacher, the proprietor of MPS Mussey Private School. His father took good care of him as a single parent, dropping him off at school every morning. I swear with the Quran. After school, he would go to Agboolokun, his mother’s house, and stay there until evening when his dad (Malo) returned from work. I don’t know why he neglected his dad to this extent.”
Echoing Alade’s sentiments, Adetola Adunade Oso also shared his thoughts: “Fact. Malo took care of Ahmed (Asake). He never failed in his responsibilities as a father. We both worked with the Lagos Island Local Government—though in different departments—but maintained a cordial relationship until I retired in 2022. I can’t believe Ahmed could neglect his father in this state. I pray the Almighty Allah restores his health. So sad. Always smiling, Lammedah.”
Ho (V/R), March 15, GNA – The Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, has held a meeting with officials from the Ghana Gas, and other stakeholders.
They include the project contractor, and the Ketu South Municipal Assembly aimed to address the delays in completing a 15-unit housing project meant for residents of Agavedzi, Amutinu, and Salakope – coastal communities severely affected by tidal waves.
The meeting was aimed at resolving bottlenecks in the project’s execution and ensuring that displaced families receive the housing relief they were promised.
During the discussions, each stakeholder provided updates on their responsibilities, highlighting key challenges that had stalled progress.
It became evident that the current site conditions were not suitable for construction completion, necessitating a more comprehensive engineering approach to ensure long-term stability.
Mr. Augustus Awity, the Volta Regional Chief Director, joined the Minister in posing critical questions to the project team and demanding clear timelines and action plans for the way forward.
In his remarks, Minister reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure that the affected communities received the support urgently needed.
“We recognize the urgency of this project and the need to deliver sustainable solutions for our people. We will continue to push for swift action and ensure that these families are not left without shelter,” he assured.
He emphasised that beyond short-term housing relief, the government was also exploring long-term coastal protection measures to safeguard these communities from recurring tidal wave disasters.
The engagement ended with renewed commitments from Ghana Gas and other stakeholders to fast-track the necessary engineering assessments and resume work on the housing project as soon as possible.
Residents of Agavedzi, Amutinu, and Salakope are hopeful that this intervention will lead to a lasting solution to their displacement and housing challenges.
Former Deputy Minister of Finance, Mona Quartey, has dismissed concerns raised by the minority regarding the oversubscription of short-term debt instruments, stating that it will ultimately benefit the private sector.
The minority had argued that the continued oversubscription of Treasury Bills (T-Bills) could force banks to turn to the foreign exchange market, potentially putting pressure on the cedi.
However, speaking on the matter, on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, on Saturday, March 15, 2025, Mona Quartey explained that the increased demand for government securities is creating opportunities for the private sector to access funds.
“Actually, there is a pent-up demand from the private sector for these funds. So, we are going to see the commercial banks being able to lend to the private sector. As we term it, there will be a crowding in of the private sector.
“In the past, we had a crowd out because the government was in that space; whether it was the NDC government or the NPP government. Now, we will see a private sector crowding into that space because those interest rates are attractive for them,” she stated.
Five Controversial Arrests That Were Made By Dampare
News Hub Creator2h
During his time as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare earned a reputation for his decisive and, at times, controversial actions in arresting high-profile individuals, including well-known pastors and influential members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). His approach was seen as a determined effort to enforce the law impartially, regardless of a person’s status or influence. Below are five of the most notable arrests made under his leadership:
Arrest of Reverend Owusu-Bempah and Associates
On September 12, 2021, Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah, leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, was arrested alongside three others—Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene, and Nathaniel Agyekum. This arrest followed the circulation of videos allegedly showing threats, weapon displays, and assaults on police officers. The police statement cited a thorough investigation and intelligence gathering before the arrest.
Arrest of NPP’s Abronye DC
Kwame Baffoe, known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, was arrested after making claims that former President John Mahama was conspiring with Al-Qaeda militants to stage a coup. Abronye DC was charged with publishing false news and engaging in conduct that could disrupt public peace. Following his release on bail, he continued to defend his actions and hinted at having personal issues with the IGP, which he promised to reveal later.
Arrest and Conviction of MP Francis Xavier Sosu
On November 3, 2022, Francis Xavier Sosu, the Member of Parliament for Madina, was arrested for reckless driving. He was seen driving dangerously along the Airport bypass in Accra, endangering others. The police impounded his vehicle and he was fined GH¢2,400 in court. Additionally, Sosu was ordered to remove illegal sirens and lights from his car, which the police supervised.
Arrest of Dr. Stephen Amoah, MP for Nhyiaeso
In December 2021, Dr. Stephen Amoah, the Nhyiaeso MP, was arrested along with six others during a police operation at the Airport bypass. The offenders were cited for various traffic violations such as reckless and dangerous driving. Dr. Amoah was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 and failed to adhere to traffic rules. He and the others were processed for court the next day.
IGP Dampare’s Personal Arrest of Reckless Driver
On November 28, 2021, Dr. Dampare himself apprehended a reckless driver on the Kumasi-Accra highway. While traveling, he noticed a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 dangerously overtaking vehicles and forcing oncoming traffic to swerve. The IGP pursued the driver, identified as 29-year-old Danso Gilbert Tweneboah, and handed him over to the Kibi Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) for further investigation. The vehicle’s insurance status was also checked as part of the arrest process.
Throughout his tenure, Dr. Dampare’s bold and unflinching stance in enforcing the law against both common citizens and high-profile figures set a tone for accountability, regardless of one’s position in society.
Ghana and Japan have signed a $13.44 million grant agreement aimed at improving power supply stability in Tamale and its surrounding areas.
The funding will be used to construct a primary power substation, which will help stabilize the power supply in the region.
The two-year project will also involve building a control room, installing transformers, and setting up interconnected sub-transmission lines.
The Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson signed on behalf of the Government of Ghana while the Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Ghana Office, Suzuki Momoko, signed on behalf of her government.
During the signing ceremony in Accra on Friday, Dr Forson expressed his appreciation to the Japanese government for its support, emphasizing the importance of the grant in stabilizing power distribution in the Tamale Metropolis.
He also affirmed the Ghanaian government’s commitment to collaborating with JICA and Japan to launch projects that will accelerate the nation’s development.
“We are committed to strengthening our relationship with Japan and are open to working closely together to build on our strong bilateral ties,” he stated.
Dr Forson also appealed to the Japanese government for support in the construction of the Volivo Bridge in the Volta Region, a project he described as a priority for President John Mahama Dramani.
He urged that all necessary preparations be completed to ensure the project is included in the 2026 budget and can begin next year.
Suzuki Momoko, in her remarks, highlighted the significance of the power supply project as a testament to the strong diplomatic ties between Ghana and Japan.
She confirmed that the project would be managed by the Northern Electricity Company Limited (NEDCo).
Ms. Momoko noted that this is the second project funded by Japan following the 2015 Power Distribution Project in Tamale and Sunyani.
The new project, which is expected to be completed within two years, will enhance power reliability for key areas in Tamale, including the Central Market, Central Business District, Central Hospital, educational institutions, and nearby rural communities.
She explained that the project will reduce both the frequency and duration of power outages in the region, leading to a decreased reliance on generators.
This, in turn, will lower fuel costs and CO2 emissions, contributing to a more sustainable environment.

Veteran Nigerian actor Chinedu Ikedieze, popularly known as Aki, has revealed that he endured traumatizing experiences during his early life due to his diminutive stature.
According to his account, there were times when people ridiculed him and called him all sorts of despicable names, which took a toll on him psychologically.
The award-winning Nollywood actor disclosed that the intense stigma he faced often left him weeping uncontrollably and even led to suicidal thoughts.
However, his mother’s unwavering encouragement to focus on his education helped him navigate those difficult moments and eventually rise to prominence in the movie industry.
“My mother told me, ‘If you want to go abroad, read your books.’ So, I knew the only weapon I had to conquer the world was education, so I paid more attention to my studies. When they threw those insults at me, I cried several times. They would call me different names. It got so bad that I sometimes thought of ending it all. I never told my parents. I felt like, ‘What am I doing? Society was just not fair to me. Kids would taunt me about my stature.’
“Whenever those negative thoughts crept in, I would remind myself, ‘Remember what Mom said? Mom said I’ll be a great man only if I study.’ So I thought, why not study, then? Until these books fail me, I will keep going. That became my source of comfort,” he shared in a viral video posted on X on March 14, 2025.

According to him, the initiative is geared toward the creation of trading companies that will serve as the backbone of intra-African commerce.
“These entities will streamline product aggregation from small and medium enterprises (SMEs), enforce quality standards, and establish efficient value chains to enhance global competitiveness,” he was quoted as saying by The New Crusading Guide Online.
Dr. McKorley acknowledged that access to capital remains a significant hurdle for SMEs and trading companies alike.
“For the AfCFTA Trading Companies framework to succeed, enabling policies and streamlined regulations are essential. Policymakers at the roundtable will examine ways to harmonize trade policies, simplify cross-border compliance, and introduce incentives that encourage the growth of trading companies. The aim is to foster an environment where SMEs can fully benefit from intra-African trade opportunities,” he emphasised.
Africa’s fragmented logistics networks continue to hinder trade efficiency and this initiative seeks to address these challenges through structured trade corridors, optimized transportation systems, and improved market linkages.
Additionally, experts will explore warehousing solutions, cross-border logistics, and digital trade facilitation strategies to unlock Africa’s full trade potential.
The AfCFTA Trading Companies framework is seen as a transformative force for Africa’s economy. By aggregating trade, unlocking financing, and addressing logistical and policy barriers, the initiative is set to redefine Africa’s trade ecosystem.
“This is about creating opportunities for businesses to thrive and for Africa to take its rightful place in global commerce,” Dr. McKorley concluded.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), a key project of Agenda 2063, was approved in 2012 to boost intra-African trade and strengthen the continent’s position in global markets.
The single-trade agreement aims to unify Africa’s trade policies, enhance economic growth, and amplify Africa’s voice in global trade negotiations.

Josephine Anan-Ankomah, Regional Executive at Ecobank for Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa and Managing Director of Ecobank Kenya, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Laws ( honoris causa) by the University of Ghana in recognition of her outstanding contributions to banking and finance across the African continent.
The honor was conferred after she delivered the 2025 Aggrey-Fraser-Guggisberg Memorial Lecture on the theme “Her Money, Her Power: Making Finance Work for Women.”
The two – day lecture highlighted the critical role of financial institutions in empowering women entrepreneurs, the need for gender-inclusive banking policies, and strategies to bridge the financial gap for women-led businesses.
The ceremony, held at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, was a brief but colorful congregation led by Chancellor Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Registrar Mrs. Emelia N.K. Agyei-Mensah, and other senior university officials.
Mrs. Anan-Ankomah’s recognition underscores her impactful leadership in Africa’s financial sector, her advocacy for financial inclusion, and her dedication to driving banking innovations that foster economic growth across the continent.
Delivering her lectures Mrs. Anan Ankomah noted that :”The global financial system is failing women —not incidentally, but structurally.
Despite being the backbone of economies, excelling as reliable borrowers, and launching businesses at unprecedented rates, women remain systematically excluded from mainstream financial services.”
She added that: ”This is not merely a gender disparity: it is an economic miscalculation that stifles global prosperity. For too long, finance has been designed as a one-size-fits-men model, ignoring the distinct financial behaviours, needs and challenges women face. The result? A staggering $17 trillion financing gap that is not just a missed opportunity for women-but for economies worldwide.”
Josephine Anan-Ankomah is a highly respected international Banker with over three decades of experience in treasury management, strategy execution, investment and commercial banking.
A dynamic leader, she has played a pivotal role in shaping Africa’s financial landscape.
She currently serves as Regional Executive for Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa (CESA) at Ecobank Transnational and doubles as Managing Director of Ecobank Kenya. Overseeing operations in 18 of the 35 African countries that the Ecobank Group operates in, she manages nearly 30% of the Group’s balance sheet and the second-largest revenue pool.
She drives strategy and business performance in one of Ecobank’s most critical regions while simultaneously leading Ecobank Kenya.
Retired Commissioner of Police (COP) Alex Mensah has expressed concerns about the public display of jubilation by some police officers following the appointment of a new Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
Speaking on The Pulse on JoyNewson Friday, March 14, he noted that while leadership changes in the police service are not new, the level of celebration this time is unusual and raises questions about the previous leader.
“This is the first time I have seen such a thing in the police service. There have been changes of IGPs anytime a new government comes. When Nana Akufo-Addo came, we had the first IGP, we had the second one, and Dampare became the third one. There were changes, but nobody jubilated, nobody did anything at the National Headquarters,” he stated.
COP Mensah questioned why officers at the National Headquarters and various police stations were openly celebrating the transition, suggesting that their reactions may reflect dissatisfaction with the previous leadership.
“When Akufo-Addo took over, the then IGP was retired, but nobody jubilated. Why are the police jubilating now? That should tell you what they were going through during his period.
When Mr Oppong Boadu was changed and Dampare was appointed, nobody jubilated. Why is it that police officers are jubilating at the National Headquarters and all the police stations? That should tell you something,” he said.
He expressed his hope saying that the new IGP would bring positive reforms. “I am not happy with the jubilation, but I am happy with the change in leadership because now we are going to have a leader who will listen and who will do the right thing,” he said.
The retired COP was once accused of undermining the immediate past IGP to the point that a parliamentary committee was set up to probe an alleged plot by him and others to get Dampare out of office.
The Black Stars will begin assembling in camp from Monday (March 17, 2025) to prepare for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
Ghanaians have always stood by the national team, either cheering through victories or agonising through defeats, but the pain of recent failures has left even the most loyal supporters disillusioned.
It is no secret that the love for the Black Stars has dwindled in recent years, attributable to a series of heartbreaking disappointments.
The most painful of them all is the failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) — the first time in two decades that Ghana will be absent from the continental showpiece.
For a nation that prides itself on being a football powerhouse, finishing bottom of the AFCON qualifying group behind Angola, Sudan and Niger is simply unacceptable.
This was not just a failure; it was an embarrassment. A country that once dominated African football and reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup in 2010 now finds it difficult to beat teams that were once considered underdogs.
Where did it all go wrong?
But perhaps the most frustrating thing is that we keep believing. We keep hoping that the team will turn things around, only to be met with disappointment time and again.
And yet, the passion of the Ghanaian football fan remains unmatched.
Even after the Black Stars’ disastrous exit from the last two AFCON tournaments in the group stage, fans still filled stadiums and tuned in to watch their games.
Hopefully, with the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, the Black Stars have a golden opportunity to make amends and restore the faith of the fans.
But this cannot be achieved by mere words and promises. Ghanaians are tired of excuses.
The only way to win back the love of the supporters is through results—by winning matches, playing with passion, and showing commitment on the pitch.
The head coach, Otto Addo, and his players must understand that they owe Ghanaians a response.
This is not just about football; it is about national pride.
The Black Stars are not just a team; they represent the hopes and dreams of millions of Ghanaians.
Every victory lifts the spirit of the nation; every defeat crushes it.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) also has a responsibility to fix the many issues plaguing the team.
From poor management decisions to lack of proper scouting and player development, the problems run deep.
If structural changes are needed to ensure success, then they must be made without hesitation.
The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has rightly called for accountability following the AFCON qualification disaster.
The GFA cannot simply take “collective responsibility” without making bold decisions to correct the errors.
If certain officials or decision-makers are not delivering, they must be replaced. Ghanaians deserve better.
Similarly, the players must recognise that representing Ghana is a privilege, not a right.
Wearing the Black Stars jersey should mean everything to them, and they must fight for the badge every time they step onto the pitch.
Anything short of that is a betrayal of the unwavering support Ghanaians have given them.
As Ghana prepares to face Chad and Madagascar, we remind the Black Stars of one thing: Ghanaians will always love football.
But it is time for them to return that love with performances that make the country proud.
The days of empty slogans and unfulfilled promises are over.
This is the moment to rewrite the story, to bring back the glorious days, and to make the Black Stars shine again.
The choice is simple: win back our trust or continue to lose the nation’s faith.
Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called for an unbiased working environment in which women are equally granted opportunities to lead.
To officially recognise the contribution of women, a commemoration was held in reverence of the 2025 International Women’s Day, at the Presidency, themed, Accelerating Action for a More Equitable Workplace”.
In her address, Prof. Opoku Agyemang said: “We gather not just to celebrate our collective contribution to governance and public service delivery but to commit to action to ensure that equity is not merely an aspiration, but a lived reality across our various Secretariats, Directorates, and Units.
“Let us remember that equity is not about favour, nor is it about division. It is about fairness, opportunity, and ensuring that every woman has the space to lead, thrive, and contribute at her fullest potential.”
Prof. Opoku Agyemang further stressed the need for a healthy working environment to support women in being productive.
She condemned the situation where some women are subjected to unfair treatment at the workplace, negatively impacting on their mental health.
The Vice President emphasized the need to enact policies that ensure a safe working space.
“I am particularly pleased that today’s discussion will focus on “Wellness in Women,” highlighting critical aspects of managing workplace stress. This is a fundamental pillar that determines the strength of our workforce. A healthy woman is a productive woman, and a well-balanced woman is an empowered woman.
“Our conversations today must not end here. They must lead to policies, practices, and actions that make our workplaces truly safe and equitable”, she added.
Dr Stephen Amoah, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Kumasi has acknowledged the expertise of Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, despite being on opposing political sides.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, 15th March 2025, Dr Amoah stated that his experience working with Dr Forson in Parliament has given him confidence in the Finance Minister’s competence.
His remarks followed the presentation of the 2025 Budget Statement by Dr Forson on Tuesday, 11th March.
While discussing the economic policies outlined in the budget, Dr Amoah emphasised that he would not shy away from giving credit where it is due.
“Ato Forson is a very knowledgeable Finance Minister. When I say it, people attack, but I have worked with him on the Finance Committee of Parliament, and I know what I am talking about,” he remarked.
Despite his praise for the Finance Minister’s expertise, Dr Amoah did not shy away from critiquing aspects of the budget.
He suggested that while the budget contains some promising initiatives, the government must take bold steps to address economic challenges, including inflation, debt sustainability, and job creation.
“Competence alone is not enough; we need strategic implementation to achieve real economic progress,” he added.
Dr Amoah also stressed the importance of bipartisan collaboration in addressing Ghana’s economic difficulties.
He urged policymakers from both the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition NPP to work together in the national interest rather than engaging in political point-scoring.
“The economy is bigger than political parties; we must prioritise the welfare of Ghanaians over partisan debates,” he stated.
Buenos Aires, Mar. 15, (dpa/GNA) – Cuba faced power cuts across much of the country on Friday, the Energy Ministry announced.
The power outages were caused by the failure of a substation, leading to the collapse of the power grid, it said on X.
The Ministry added that work was under way to restore supply.
In October, the power grid collapsed after an important thermal power plant went offline. Almost three weeks later, the power went out again when Hurricane Rafael hit the island.
Cuba is in the throes of one of its most severe economic crises since the 1959 revolution. The country’s thermal power plants regularly go off grid and require urgent repairs due to ageing infrastructure.
Power outages are a common occurrence across the country.

Ghana has seen several political dynasties that have played key roles in shaping the governments that have ruled the country over the decades.
The country has witnessed the influence of the Ahwoi brothers, Kwesi Ahwoi and Kwamena Ahwoi, who played significant roles in the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC)/National Democratic Congress (NDC) governments from the 1980s to the early 2000s.
Kwesi Ahwoi served as Minister for the Interior and Minister of Food and Agriculture, while Kwamena Ahwoi held positions such as Minister of Planning and Regional Economic Cooperation and Integration, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister for Local Government and Rural Development.
Similarly, Ghana saw the Kufuor brothers, John Agyekum Kufuor and Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor. John Agyekum Kufuor served as a Member of Parliament, Deputy Minister, Minister, and ultimately as the President of Ghana.
His brother, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, also served as a Member of Parliament for Manhyia, as well as Minister of the Interior and Minister for Defence.
More recently, the Jinapor brothers, Samuel Abu Jinapor and John Jinapor, have made their mark in both the NDC and the NPP.
Samuel, a member of the NPP, has been the Member of Parliament for Damongo since 2020 and has served as Deputy Chief of Staff, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, and in various acting ministerial roles under the NPP.
His brother, John Jinapor, a member of the NDC, is the Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu and Ghana’s current Minister of Energy and Green Transition. He previously served as a Deputy Minister of Energy.
From these examples, a clear pattern emerges; political dynasties in Ghana have predominantly been male-led brothers.
But guess what? Ghana also has a female political dynasty; the Tetteh sisters: Hannah Serwaa Tetteh, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, and Gabriella Tetteh.
These three sisters, all members of the NDC, are making their mark on Ghana’s political landscape, just like their male counterparts.
Meet the Tetteh Sisters
Hannah Serwaa Tetteh
Hannah Tetteh is a former Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya West Constituency in the Central Region.

Currently, she is the United Nations Special Envoy to Libya and has held several key positions within the organization, including Under-Secretary-General.
Hannah Tetteh, an internationally acclaimed diplomat, holds a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) degree from the University of Ghana. She also attended the Ghana School of Law, where she became a Barrister-at-Law.
Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui
Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui is Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Works, Housing, and Water Resources.
She has been the Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya West Constituency since 2021.

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has responded to reports of tension within the company over the reinstatement of former Tema East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Felicia Edem Attipoe, and the alleged unmerited promotions of individuals affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement issued by the management sighted by GhanaWeb, the GACL refuted claims that there is confusion at the company due to Felicia Edem Attipoe’s return.
The statement clarified that she has not resumed any position at the company since the beginning of 2025.
“Ms. Felicia Edem Attipoe has not resumed post at GACL since January 2025, contrary to claims in the publication,” parts of the statement read.
The GACL also dismissed allegations of undue promotions within the company, emphasising that all promotions are merit-based and follow established procedures.
“All promotions at GACL have been conducted in strict adherence to established protocols, including departmental recommendations and thorough evaluations by panels comprising no fewer than six members, including representatives from the Public Services Commission and appropriate professional associations. Interviews were conducted from May to July 2024, and appointment letters were issued in August and September 2024.
“The allegation that individuals were elevated to top management positions after only three months of engagement is categorically false. Staff members who received promotions have served the company for extended periods, with many having remained at the officer level for 15-20 years despite their contributions,” the statement explained.
The state-owned company also outlined the conditions under which certain individuals cited for receiving politically motivated promotions were actually elevated:
“Mr. Gideon Grumah’s promotion to the position of Director of Commercial Services was approved by the GACL Board in 2023, before the appointment of the current Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare.”
“Mr. Eric Nartey Yeboah’s appointment followed due process, including an interview, and was approved by the GACL Board,” the company noted.
Background
A report by StarrFM.com.gh on March 14, 2025 highlighted growing agitation and tension at the Ghana Airports Company Limited.
The report suggested that several management decisions had sparked dissatisfaction among workers, who believe these decisions are detrimental to the company’s progress.
Some staff accused the Managing Director, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, of promoting individuals affiliated with the NPP to top management positions within just three months of their engagement without following due process.
Workers cited appointments within the Commercial Department, which oversees key revenue contracts and landed properties, as a major concern.
Another issue fueling the unrest, according to the report, was the alleged reinstatement of Felicia Edem Attipoe, the immediate past MCE for Tema East.

Speaking on TV3’s Ghana Tonight on March 13, 2025, Kpebu explained that the NDC implemented various measures to safeguard the electoral process.
“NDC had a lot of people trained. It’s not everything we can say here,” he remarked, suggesting that the party took deliberate steps beyond regular campaign activities.

Economist Prof. William Brafu Nsaidoo has expressed optimism about the government’s 2025 budget, urging Ghanaians to adopt a patient and hopeful outlook.
His remarks come amidst ongoing debates about the budget’s potential to address the nation’s economic challenges.
“For me, I will say there is hope. There are prospects if you look at the budget carefully,” Prof. Nsaidoo stated on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday.
He emphasised the importance of giving the government time to implement its plans, rather than rushing to judgment.
“Rather than being skeptical, why don’t we wait for the mid-year budget and say that I don’t think there is anything substantial? There is something that is pointing to the fact that we are going to make any inroads,” he added.

Speaking on the matter in an interview with Joy News on Friday, he emphasised the principle that actions undermining or preempting a court’s decision while a case is ongoing are unlawful and disrespectful to judicial authority.
“When a case is before a court, it is contemptuous of the court for anybody to take an action that overreaches the court,” he stated. “What it means is simply that you don’t do anything to make nonsense of a court ruling where it is imminent.”
Bentil further criticised the executive branch for proceeding with the appointment despite the unresolved legal case, which has been pending for over a year.
He warned that such actions could lead to significant confusion and undermine the integrity of the judicial process.
“That confusion which will erupt is exactly the reason why no law-abiding person, when a case is before a court and the court is about to make a ruling, would go and try to overreach the court,” he added.
The Vice President of IMANI Africa also highlighted the existence of a school of thought suggesting that an injunction is already in place, necessitating confirmation to prevent any actions that could violate it.
“Indeed, there is a school of thought that believes that under the circumstance, there is already an injunction in place, which is why we filed to confirm that injunction, so that, if there is any doubt, nobody will act based on that,” Bentil explained.
Adding “Now being that, as it may, that they have done what they’ve done if the court ruled that indeed, the president should not remove any IGP or security head or whatever without just cause, what happens? We end up in a very, very terrible stalemate.”

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has called on the government to provide full support to the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) in its efforts to implement an export labour policy aimed at addressing the country’s high unemployment rate.
According to the Executive Secretary of the IEAG, Mr Samson Asaki Awingobit, the GMA plays a crucial role in training and certifying Ghanaian seafarers for employment on foreign vessels in various capacities, including seamen, boatswains, deckhands, officers, engineers, pilots, cooks, firemen, mates, service staff, and stewards.
He emphasised that with increased government investment, the GMA could expand its training programmes, equipping more unemployed Ghanaian youth with the necessary skills to secure jobs on international vessels, where there is a high demand for Ghanaian-trained seafarers.
Mr Awingobit noted, “Recently we heard the finance minister’s announcement on plans by the government to export labour as a means of addressing the country’s daunting unemployment rate.
“I believe that, with the right government support, the Ghana Maritime Authority can train and certify more unemployed Ghanaian youth who, upon completion, will have guaranteed jobs on foreign vessels. There is a high demand for Ghanaian-trained seafarers, and investing in this sector will not only reduce unemployment but also generate foreign remittances to boost the economy,” Mr Awingobit stated.
Mr Awingobit made this call during a courtesy visit to the acting Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Dr Kamal-Deen Ali, in Accra.
The visit was to formally congratulate Dr Kamal-Deen Ali on his appointment and to reaffirm the association’s commitment to collaborating with the GMA to achieve its mandate.
In response, Dr Kamal-Deen Ali acknowledged the IEAG as a key stakeholder in Ghana’s maritime industry and assured that his administration would introduce strategic reforms to enhance the sector.
He reiterated the Authority’s dedication to supporting the government’s export labour policy and contributing to the realization of the 24-hour economy agenda.
Dr Kamal-Deen Ali further emphasised that strengthening the maritime industry would not only create more employment opportunities for Ghanaians but also boost the country’s economic growth. “The maritime sector has the potential to drive significant economic growth, and we are committed to making the necessary reforms that will benefit both the industry and the country at large,” he said.”
“We fully support the government’s export labour agenda and will work tirelessly to ensure that Ghanaian seafarers gain more opportunities on the international market”, Dr Kamal Deen added.
The IEAG’s call for government support aligns with broader national efforts to position Ghana as a key player in the global maritime workforce while addressing the unemployment challenge through skill development and job creation in the seafaring industry.

She served in Ghana’s cabinet as Minister for Trade and Industry from 2009 to 2013 and as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2013 to 2017.
Born on November 30, 1970, she hails from Awutu Obrachire and is a Christian.
Gizella holds a BSc in Design and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
She also earned an MBA from the University of Ghana Business School and is an Associate of the Ghana Institute of Architects (AGIA).
Before entering politics, she was the Chief Executive Officer of Zella Architects.
Gabriella Tetteh
Gabriella Tetteh, the youngest of the three sisters, serves as the Central Regional Communications Officer of the NDC.
Before assuming this role, she was an active member of the NDC’s communications team in the Awutu Senya West Constituency.

Preferred by Nature pledges support to fully sensitize stakeholders on EUDR compliance
A leading sustainability organisation, Preferred by Nature, has pledged its support to fully sensitize and prepare organisations for compliance with the EU’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), set to take effect in December 2025.
The regulation, a directive by the European Union, aims to prevent deforestation and forest degradation linked to products placed on or exported from the EU market.
It requires companies to conduct due diligence, ensuring their products are “deforestation-free” and comply with relevant laws.
Speaking to GhanaWeb Business on the sidelines of a seminar organised by Preferred by Nature and the Danish Embassy on “Navigating EU Deforestation: Opportunities, Challenges & Collaborative Solutions from a Supply Chain Actors’ Perspective,” the organisation’s Global Director of Regional Engagement and Communications, Sandra Razanamandrato, emphasised the importance of bridging gaps in the supply chain to facilitate compliance for both the government and the private sector.
“We’re discussing the European Union Deforestation Regulation, a directive from the EU that will become mandatory for companies on December 31, 2025. Our organisation, Preferred by Nature, is committed to supporting companies in becoming ready and compliant with this regulation.
“We are also working to create awareness and educate people on what the regulation entails, its requirements, and how to comply with it.”
“Today, we have gathered key stakeholders from different sectors, including oil palm, rubber, timber, and cocoa, spanning the entire supply chain. We have representatives from government authorities, the private sector, and civil society to discuss the measures currently in place for compliance, as well as the challenges and opportunities this regulation presents. This dialogue is ongoing, and we are pleased to bring together different sectors in one room to advance this important conversation,” she added.
The Deputy CEO of the Tree Crop Development Authority, Rich Kofi Kofituo, who attended as a stakeholder, stated that the authority seeks to leverage its experience to ensure that all actors within the sector are registered under the law to help scale up the industry.
“We are going to leverage our experience from this initiative to ensure that we register all actors. The goal is to establish traceability so that when commodities such as oil palm are exported to the EU, their origin can be verified, ensuring they are not sourced from deforested areas. This can only be achieved by obtaining quality data from producers across Ghana, particularly those involved in oil palm and rubber cultivation,” he noted.
He also advised farmers to prioritize sustainable practices and avoid deforestation, as climate change has become a pressing global challenge affecting agricultural yields.

Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah has credited Michael Essien and Didier Drogba as two African footballers who have greatly influenced his career.
Essien and Drogba, teammates at Chelsea, enjoyed immense success together, winning domestic and European titles.
Reflecting on the African players who shaped his football journey and left a mark on the Premier League, the former Arsenal forward highlighted Drogba’s impact.
“There were loads! Growing up and being in Chelsea Academy, Michael Essien was a Ghanaian player at the time, but a big one would probably be Didier Drogba. He’s such an icon — a striker who left his footprint with Chelsea and in the Premier League,” he told NBC Sports.
Nketiah also spoke about the passion and energy Drogba brought to the game.
“The joy he played football with, the smile he used to have on his face, the way he used to celebrate — dancing with teammates — that left a real impression on me. That’s why I always try to celebrate my goals whenever I score and just have that joy in football because that’s why we play — to be able to smile and enjoy our work that we are blessed to be able to do every day,” he said.
So far this season, Nketiah has scored three goals in 23 appearances for Crystal Palace.
Security analyst, Professor Kwesi Aning, has raised concerns about the deep-seated political interference in Ghana’s security institutions.
According to him, this political interference threatens professionalism, discipline, and institutional independence in public institutions, particularly the security services.
“Historically, politicians have politicised almost every facet of our public space. The security institutions are only just one of them, but because they carry lethal weapons and they protect the state at the peril of their lives.
“We’ve undermined this loyalty and professionalism and institutional ethos and independence for a very long time – so much so that there’s a certain uncertainty as to who goes home, when and how. And that is what we seek to get clarity and interpretation,” he said on JoyFM Top Story on Friday, March 14.
His comments come in the wake of a lawsuit filed a year ago, which seeks to establish clear guidelines for the appointment and removal of security officials.
According to him, security officers should not be dismissed arbitrarily unless there is just cause or they have reached the retirement age of 60.
“The suit that was filed a year ago seeks to improve security governance and management in this country in which he to the state has been tested and to every single government has been proven when they are appointed into influential positions that except in cases where there is just cause, and if they are not above 60, then really there’s no cost to remove them.
“All that we are seeking for is a transparent approach and a certainty when one gets this job, you know that I can continue to deliver, but also that when the time comes for them to be removed, to be done in a decorous manner,” he explained.
His comment comes after he jointly filed a suit at the Supreme Court with IMANI Ghana, seeking to restrain President John Mahama from removing the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare and other heads of security agencies until an ongoing case relating to the matter is decided in May 2025.
According to the plaintiffs, the security heads in question would be unfairly treated if they were removed before the Supreme Court delivers its ruling.
“However, President Mahama relieved Dr. Dampare and appointed COP Christian Tetteh Yohonu as the new IGP, subsequently swearing him in on Friday, March 14.”
Prof Aning also commented on a viral video allegedly showing police officers spraying money on the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohonu, stating that such incidents, if true, raise critical concerns about the discipline and ethical standards within the police service.
“I think we are already beginning to see it, in which spraying of money—I think the video that has gone viral, I don’t know if it is true, but were it to be so, that it raises fundamental questions about morality, discipline, and professionalism,” he remarked.
Commenting further, he expressed hope that the Supreme Court’s ruling on the case will bring much-needed clarity and could pave the way for constitutional reforms to prevent excessive executive influence in security appointments.
“Well, I think we have a fairly good chance with the constitutional review process, where the Supreme Court will rule in our favour. The constitutional review process may not have ended by that time, or even if it’s ended, it gives us an opportunity to look at the specific article that we have cited from the Constitution from 200 onwards, and to say, how do we clarify and make them more specific,” he added.
Beautiful styles for stylish party guests and celebrants of special events have evolved to reflect both individuality and current fashion trends, ensuring attendees make a lasting impression. The choice of attire often depends on the event’s theme, location, and time of day, guiding guests toward outfits that strike the perfect balance between elegance and appropriateness. For evening galas, floor-length gowns with intricate detailing, such as sequins, lace, or beadwork, are a popular choice, as they exude sophistication and glamour. Men often opt for tailored tuxedos or suits in classic colors like black, navy, or charcoal, which provide a timeless and polished look. Daytime events, such as garden parties or brunches, call for lighter fabrics and softer hues, with women favoring floral dresses or chic separates and men choosing linen suits or smart casual ensembles.
Accessories play a crucial role in elevating these outfits, with statement jewelry, elegant clutches, and polished shoes adding the finishing touches. Hairstyles and makeup are equally important, as they complement the overall look and enhance the wearer’s confidence. Bold lip colors, smoky eyes, and sleek updos are often favored for formal events, while natural makeup and loose waves suit more casual occasions. Footwear choices, such as stilettos, block heels, or loafers, are carefully selected to ensure comfort without compromising style.
The rise of sustainable fashion has also influenced party attire, with many guests opting for eco-friendly fabrics or rented outfits to reduce their environmental impact. Ultimately, the goal is to create a cohesive and memorable look that reflects personal style while adhering to the event’s dress code. By paying attention to details and embracing current trends, stylish party guests and celebrants can ensure they stand out for all the right reasons, making every special occasion even more unforgettable.
Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asserted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) inherited a significantly better economy than the one it left behind in 2017.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, he emphasised that the economy under the NDC’s leadership from 2013 to 2017 was in a state of decline.
“This economy they inherited is doing or was doing much better than the economy they left in 2017. Clear fact, there is no controversial fact about that,” he stated.
He further described the 2017 economy as a contracting one, highlighting its progressive decline over the years.
“The 2017 economy was not a growing economy; it was a contracting economy that progressively from 2013 was declining all the way through,” Ahiagbah added.
