The Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST Senior High School, Charles Akwasi Aidoo, has been removed from office following the circulation of a viral video on social media allegedly involving him in a compromised position with a female student.
In a statement issued by the Ghana Education Service (GES) on September 29, 2025, the management of the school said it had taken the matter seriously and acted swiftly to safeguard the integrity of the teaching profession and ensure the welfare of students.
According to the statement, Aidoo has been prohibited from going to the school while thorough investigations are being conducted into the allegations.

The senior two student is led to Mukono Police Station shortly after his arrest
Police in Mukono District are holding a Senior Two student of Panorama College for allegedly kidnapping two of his cousin’s children and demanding a ransom from their parents.
According to Ms Marvis Iriko, the children’s mother, her cousin picked up the children, aged 2 and 4, from their home in Kigunga Cell, Mukono Municipality, on Friday, September 26, at around 6 pm.
She had taken a nap, leaving the children playing in the compound with other neighborhood kids. When she woke up to bathe them, she discovered they were missing.
“I was tired and decided to take a nap while the children were playing in the compound with mates from the neighbourhood, only to find them missing when I woke up to bathe them,” she said in an interview on September 29.
The desperate parents immediately reported a case of missing children to Seeta Police Station, which referred them to Mukono. A search for the children was launched.
Ms Iriko said an anonymous call later came in on Saturday, demanding a ransom.
“I received a call that claimed they had the children and was asking me to deposit money that I felt was worth my children on the same telephone number, but a sum of Shs30,000 was needed to feed the children,” she said.
Police tracked the kidnapper and arrested Ms Iriko’s cousin. The suspect had kept the children in a rented room in Nabuti Village. The children were rescued unharmed, and the suspect is currently detained at Mukono Central Police Station pending further investigations.
On arrest, the suspect told Monitor that he was broke and thought of the abduction as a quick way of earning money.
“I had no bad intentions but only wanted to have some money, and when the children came to me, I decided to have them. But I was planning to take them back since they had turned expensive to feed,” he said.
The children’s father, Mr Ronald Tibesigwa, expressed suspicion that his wife’s family might have plotted to extort money from him, citing their seemingly nonchalant attitude toward the abduction. Police, however, are focusing on investigating the suspect’s motives and possible accomplices.
Child abductions have become a growing concern in Uganda, with several notable cases reported in recent months.
Recently, a 7-year-old pupil was kidnapped from Ddimo Landing Site in Masaka District. Twelve suspects were arrested in connection with the crime after the kidnappers demanded Shs200,000, which was paid, but communication ceased thereafter.
In another case, a 15-year-old girl, Fiona Kiconco, was abducted in Rukungiri District. Police identified a suspect, Moses Katosiire, who claimed he had only helped the girl find a job as a housemaid.
In some instances, abductors demand ransom only for families to later find their children killed. Police continue to urge communities to remain vigilant, work closely with law enforcement, and avoid negotiating with kidnappers independently.
Authorities say these incidents highlight the urgent need for awareness, vigilance, and cooperation between communities and security agencies to curb child abductions.

THE NATIONAL Sports Authority (NSA), in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, has announced the immediate suspension of all boxing activities in Ghana after the tragic death of professional boxer Ernest “Bahubali” Akushey.

The actor in a video he shared on social media called on John Dramani Mahama to change his mind about running for president for the third time.
According to Wayoosi, who is a staunch supporter of the president and his party, the National Democratic Congress, John Mahama is Ghana’s best bet for the future.
In his passionate appeal, Wayoosi compared John Mahama to Ghana’s first prime minister, Kwame Nkrumah and established that his third term was crucial for the country’s future.
“The country is crying for you. It needs your help. You have two-thirds of the parliament. Use the opportunity to amend the constitution and run for a third term,”
Wayoosi said.
During his appeal, Wayoosi referenced John Mahama’s appearance and address at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He claimed that the president’s profound speech about global immigration laws by the West influenced the US to reverse its visa sanctions against Ghana.
“If you don’t consider this, there could be demonstrations across Ghana for you to go for the third term,” he added.
Ghana’s 1992 Constitution stipulates presidential terms as four years, with an individual serving two terms.
Speculations of him running for a third term began when minority leader and Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, alleged that Mahama had an agenda to be president for more than eight years.
The president has shut down the speculations, reaffirming his commitment to Ghana’s constitutional order.

In a statement dated Monday, September 29, 2025, and signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the Armed Forces said the decision was aimed at ensuring fairness and accessibility in the recruitment process.
The statement cautioned the public against fraudulent recruitment links being circulated on WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms. It warned that such messages were fake and should be ignored. According to GAF, no invitations are issued directly by officers of the Armed Forces or the High Command.

The Nalerigu Circuit Court has sentenced two men, Mumuni Iddrisu and Alhassan Braimah, to 10 years’ imprisonment each for possessing restricted drugs.
In a statement issued on September 27, 2025, the North East Regional Police Command explained that the accused appeared before the Nalerigu Circuit Court, presided over by His Lordship Justice Francis Asobayire, on Friday, September 26, 2025.
The two men pleaded guilty to two counts: conspiracy to commit a crime and possession of restricted drugs without lawful authority.

“The court sentenced each of the convicted persons to ten years in prison on each count. The court also fined each of them five thousand penalty units, equivalent to GH¢60,000. In default of payment, they are to serve a further ten years’ imprisonment,” the statement added.
Investigations revealed that 100 boxes of tramadol were directly in the possession of the convicts, who had also concealed over 4,500 packs of the restricted drug in 25 five-litre yellow gallons.
Four other suspects, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik, were discharged for want of prosecution after police established that they were not linked to the crime.
According to the police, “The two convicts have been taken to the Gambaga local prison to begin their sentences.”
The statement also commended the support of residents in the region during the operation.

Starting October 1, 2025, DStv customers in Ghana will receive major value upgrades across all subscription packages, following a landmark agreement between the government and MultiChoice Africa.
Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, announced the new arrangement at a press briefing on Monday, September 29.
The changes follow weeks of negotiations between the Ministry, the National Communications Authority (NCA), and MultiChoice over DStv’s pricing in Ghana.
According to the Minister, the new value offering exceeds the government’s expectations, with Ghanaian subscribers set to receive between 33 and 50 percent more value depending on their bouquet.
Below are the packages :
Padi Bouquet (GHS59): Subscribers will be upgraded to the Access Bouquet (GHS99), gaining 35 extra channels and saving 40 percent.
Access Bouquet (GHS99): Will be upgraded to the Family Bouquet (GHS190), adding 19 channels and saving 48 percent.
Family Bouquet (GHS190): Will be upgraded to the Compact Bouquet (GHS380), with 22 more channels, including live football matches — a 50 percent value gain.
Compact Bouquet (GHS380): Subscribers will receive the Compact Plus Bouquet (GHS570), adding 12 more channels and saving 33 percent.
Compact Plus (GHS570): Will be bumped up to the Premium Bouquet (GHS865), with 18 extra channels and a 34 percent increase in value.

Samuel George praised MultiChoice for what he called a goodwill gesture that directly responds to the concerns raised by the government and Ghanaian consumers.
“I went into this with a request for 30 percent [value increase]. What we have now — the lowest is 33 percent, the highest is 50 percent — and I extend my warmest gratitude to the MultiChoice team for that,” he stated.

In addition, MultiChoice Africa has slashed the price of its Zapper decoder and dish kit package by 50 percent, reducing the cost to GHS555 for new customers.

Background to the Agreement
The announcement follows the work of a stakeholder committee formed by the NCA on the Minister’s directive. The committee was tasked with assessing the fairness and commercial viability of DStv pricing in Ghana and developing a roadmap to address concerns around affordability and cross-border decoder piracy from Nigeria.
The regulatory pressure came after public outcry over rising subscription costs, leading to a standoff between the Ministry and MultiChoice Ghana. The Minister had previously threatened regulatory action if pricing concerns were not resolved.
With the new value arrangement now in place, the standoff appears to have eased, with both government and MultiChoice signaling a more collaborative relationship moving forward.
“The committee is of the view that this increased value offer addresses the government’s concerns. It reduces pressure on Ghanaian households while ensuring the sustainability of DStv’s service in Ghana,” Samuel George concluded.

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued a public alert over a rising trend of AI-generated deepfake videos falsely featuring high-profile individuals endorsing fake investment schemes and unapproved drugs.
In a statement released on Monday, September 29, 2025, the CSA said that these videos, which have been widely circulated on social media platforms—especially Facebook—feature digitally manipulated images and voices of public figures, including the President, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, government appointees, and media personalities.
According to the Authority, the videos promote fraudulent financial platforms by promising unrealistic returns or advertise dangerous and unapproved medical products, including weight-loss and diabetes drugs. The goal is often to scam victims into sending money, sharing personal information, or purchasing fake products.
How the Scammers Operate
The CSA explained that cybercriminals use advanced AI tools to create highly convincing video and audio imitations of prominent individuals. These videos are designed to mislead the public and are part of a broader advance fee fraud and identity theft operation.
Some key signs of deepfake content include:
* Lip movements not matching the audio * Robotic or overly polished voice tone * Unnatural eye movement or blinking * Lighting or background inconsistencies
Public Advised to Be Vigilant
The Authority has urged the public not to trust promotional videos featuring national leaders or well-known figures unless they are verified through official government or media sources.
It also advises:
* Never send money or share personal details in response to unverified ads or messages. * Always check with relevant regulators like the Bank of Ghana or the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) before making financial or health-related decisions.

The CSA says it is actively working with social media platforms, law enforcement agencies, and other government bodies to identify and remove the fake videos and to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Riek Machar has been under house arrest since March
A special court in South Sudan has ruled that it does have the jurisdiction to prosecute suspended Vice-President Riek Machar and seven co-accused, who are charged with murder, treason, and crimes against humanity.
The court dismissed all objections by Machar’s legal team regarding its authority, the constitutionality of the proceedings, and the claim that he was immune from prosecution. The case will continue on Wednesday.
Machar has dismissed the charges brought against him two weeks ago as a political “witch-hunt”. They have raised fears of a return to civil war.
The charges stem from an attack in March by a militia allegedly linked to Machar, which killed 250 soldiers and a general.
Since then, he has been under house arrest.
Machar’s defence team had argued that the alleged crimes should not be tried by a national court but by a hybrid court under the African Union, in accordance with the 2018 Peace Agreement that ended the five-year civil war between his forces and those loyal to President Salva Kiir.
Presiding Judge James Alala however, said that the special court did have the authority to try national offences, as a hybrid court had not yet been established.
“The special court enjoys jurisdiction to try this case according to the Transitional Constitution 2011 as amended,” he said.
He also denied that Machar had immunity from prosecution, saying this was only enjoyed by the president.
“The First Vice-President does not have constitutional immunity, according to the transitional constitution,” the judge ruled.
The court also expelled two of Machar’s lawyers after the prosecution argued that they did not have valid licences.
The presiding judge ruled that the two could only participate once they have renewed their licences.
After the ruling, Machar’s SPLM-IO party said the entire case was “unconstitutional” – nothing more than a “rigged court case” and “sham trial” led by a “kangaroo court” that lacked “jurisdiction, legality and competence”.
It also alleged that the motives behind the trial were “tribal”.
Machar’s lead lawyer, Geri Raimondo Legge Lubati, told the court that his client and the co-accused had been “subjected to a politicised media campaign” by ministers and other senior officials.
“This conduct amounts to unlawful and prior conviction of our accused and a blatant violation of the constitutional guarantee of presumption of innocence,” he said.
The charges have sparked fears of renewed conflict in the country, with the UN, African Union, and neighbouring countries all calling for calm in the world’s newest country, which only gained independence from Sudan in 2011 following decades of war.

Founder of the FosCel Foundation, Amos Andoh, has revealed plans by the organisation to intensify advocacy and public education on sickle cell disease, particularly in underserved communities across Ghana.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, on Monday September 29, Mr Andoh noted that despite the growing number of people living with the condition, public awareness remains alarmingly low, particularly regarding the importance of knowing one’s genotype.
“We have seen that we lack education. People are very ignorant about knowing their genotype or anything concerning sickle cell,” he stated.
The FosCel Foundation, which is headquartered in Winneba in the Central Region, is rolling out several new programmes this year, many of which are aimed at increasing understanding, reducing stigma, and improving access to medication for persons living with sickle cell.
A key highlight of these efforts is the upcoming Sickle Cell Funfair, scheduled for December 2025 at the forecourt of the Accra Mall.
“This funfair is going to unite people living with sickle cell to help clear the stigma. We’ll also partner with some pharmaceutical companies in Ghana to make access to medication easier,” Mr Andoh disclosed.
He explained that some medications used in managing the condition can be self-administered at home without a prescription, and ensuring easy access to such drugs is part of the Foundation’s broader health advocacy strategy.
Beyond raising awareness, the event is also expected to provide a platform for individuals particularly “sickle cell warriors” to share their stories, helping to normalise conversations around the condition and foster greater inclusion and empathy within families and communities.
Secretary of the Foundation, Dr Yaw Asamoah, emphasised that genotype testing should become a standard practice in relationships, in order to reduce the prevalence of sickle cell disease in Ghana.
“We want to have a society where every single one, before you say ‘I do’, you know who or what you are going in for,” Dr Asamoah stated.
He explained that the Foundation’s top priority is to ensure that every Ghanaian knows their genotype, describing it as the most effective long-term strategy to ease the burden of sickle cell on both families and the national healthcare system.
“To us, if that one is done, we think the government will have some relief not to even think of sickle cell again,” he added.
Dr Asamoah also revealed that the Foundation is advocating for sickle cell medication to be included on the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) list, to help ease the financial strain on affected individuals and families.

Editor-in-chief of the Daily Searchlight newspaper, Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie, has filed a writ at the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of a government-backed anti-corruption initiative known as Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).
In a writ filed on September 24, 2025, Kuranchie invoked the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court under Article 2(1)(b) of the 1992 Constitution and Rule 45 of the Supreme Court Rules (C.I. 16), seeking several declarations and orders against the Attorney-General, who is named as the defendant.
Kuranchie argues that the establishment and operations of ORAL, including its investigations, decisions, reports, and prosecutions involving present and former government officials, are unconstitutional. He claims that ORAL lacks the legal mandate required under the Constitution to perform such functions.
Among the reliefs he is seeking are:
1. A declaration that all reports, decisions, investigations, and conclusions made by ORAL are unconstitutional and therefore null and void. 2. A declaration that all prosecutions arising from ORAL’s activities are unconstitutional. 3. An order directing the Attorney General to halt all actions stemming from ORAL’s operations until the Supreme Court rules on the case. 4. An order for a full audit of all public funds spent on ORAL’s activities. 5. An order to surcharge individuals involved in ORAL for any government expenditures identified in the audit.
The Attorney General is expected to respond within 14 days of being served with the writ, per the Supreme Court’s procedures.

Ghana’s Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to international aviation safety, security, and sustainability at the ongoing 42nd Triennial Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
In his address to the Assembly, Nikpe commended ICAO’s leadership in guiding global aviation toward “recovery, resilience, and transformation,” particularly as the industry faces challenges from artificial intelligence, evolving security threats, and sustainability demands.
The Minister emphasised Ghana’s strong support for ICAO’s ‘No Country Left Behind’ initiative and called for enhanced cooperation to help African States close safety oversight gaps, modernise air navigation systems, and develop climate-resilient infrastructure.
Ghana reaffirms aviation safety and sustainability goals at ICAO Assembly
Highlighting Ghana’s recent aviation progress, he announced the launch of the Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) Systems in August 2025.
He noted that “these systems comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2178 and ICAO standards, marking a major step forward in strengthening Ghana’s aviation security framework.”
Nikpe also highlighted the government’s continued investment in modern airport infrastructure. He mentioned that the Kotoka International Airport remains the hub of Ghana’s aviation sector, while Kumasi and Tamale Airports have been upgraded to international status.
“Plans are also underway to establish a state-of-the-art flight training school and a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) center to serve Ghana and the wider West African sub-region,” he added.
On environmental sustainability, the Minister reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to ICAO’s Long-Term Global Aspirational Goals (LTAGs) for achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
He noted that Ghana is implementing the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) and exploring the use of sustainable aviation fuels.
He further emphasised Ghana’s commitment to inclusivity, noting that the country is represented at ICAO by a distinguished female delegate in line with ICAO’s Gender Equality Programme.
Following his address, Nikpe paid a courtesy call on ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano, sharing Ghana’s aviation achievements and future ambitions.
He revealed plans to establish a national airline to enhance connectivity across Africa and beyond and expressed appreciation for ICAO’s continued support.
Sciacchitano commended Ghana’s leadership in African aviation and pledged ICAO’s continued assistance in sustaining the country’s progress.
In addition, Nikpe held meetings with the Ministers of Transport of Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates to explore opportunities for closer aviation cooperation.

West Africans deported by the United States to Ghana are now fending for themselves in Togo after being dumped in the country without documents, lawyers and deportees have told AFP.
The latest chapter in US President Donald Trump’s vast, opaque deportation programme, their saga became public earlier this month when Ghanaian leader John Mahama disclosed that his country had struck a deal to accept deportees from the region.
Eight to 10 west African nationals have since been forcibly sent by Ghana to Togo, bypassing a formal border crossing and left on the street without passports.
“The situation is terrible,” said Benjamin, a Nigerian national, who told AFP over the weekend he was staying in a hotel room with three other deportees and only one bed, living off money sent from their families in the United States.
Benjamin said an immigration judge had ruled in June that he couldn’t be deported to Nigeria, citing risks to his life because of his past involvement in politics.
He had expected to be released to his wife and children, who are US citizens.
He said he was beaten by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents when he said he would not board a US military plane headed to an unspecified location — which turned out to be Ghana.
ICE did not respond to a request for comment.
Up to 28 people have arrived in the west African nation so far.
Accra disclosed an initial batch of 14 and US-based lawyer Meredyth Yoon said a second plane that could carry that same amount had since landed — though it was unclear how many people were on it.
The initial 14 deportees had won protections in US immigration courts preventing their removal to their home countries for fear of persecution, their lawyers said.
But Washington is sending them to Ghana as a loophole, Yoon told AFP — with Accra making it clear people will be forwarded on to their home countries.
One, a bisexual man from Gambia, was immediately sent home by Ghanaian authorities and is living in hiding because same-sex relations are criminalised in the socially conservative country, according to court filings.

Two Togolese nationals were deported to the Togo border with Benjamin, a pseudonym he is using to protect his identity, as he fears persecution from the Nigerian government.
They were crying, repeating “it’s over, it’s over,” he said, adding that they’ve since gone into hiding.
Benjamin and another deportee, Emmanuel also a pseudonym, said they spent more than two weeks under military guard in Ghana’s Dema Camp, in the town of Bundase, 70 kilometres (43 miles) outside Accra, with nine other deportees who suffered from exposure to heat, mosquitoes and unsanitary water.
The Ghanaian military eventually told them they were taking them to a hotel.
Instead, they were driven to the Aflao border crossing, on the outskirts of Togolese capital Lome, and with the cooperation of Togolese border officials taken “through the back door” of the facility and left on the other side.
“We are in hiding right now because we have no type of documents, ID whatsoever,” said Emmanuel, a Liberian national.
Emmanuel came to the United States in the 1990s during the first Liberian civil war and was granted asylum.
Both he and Benjamin had been green card holders and are married to US citizens. Both were sent to ICE detention after serving prison sentences for separate fraud charges.
Emmanuel was fighting his removal in court when he was deported, Yoon said.
The UN human rights office has called on Ghana to stop deporting those sent by the United States “to Nigeria, The Gambia, Togo, Mali, Liberia or any other third country where there are substantial grounds for believing that they would be in danger of being subjected to torture”.
The State Department told AFP “we will pursue all appropriate options to remove aliens who should not be in the United States”.
The Togolese and Ghanaian governments have not commented on the developments.

A man identified only as Sharisu tragically lost his life last Friday when he was dragged under a KIA truck on the Tesano Police Training Academy Road near Alajo Junction in Accra.
According to Abdul Rahman Karim, the conductor of the KIA truck, the incident occurred at about 12:10 pm when the vehicle was on its way from Achimota to deliver bags of rice.
He told the DAILY GUIDE reporter that the driver of the KIA truck, who heard an unusual sound behind the truck, stopped to check only to discover the lifeless body of the man lying face down under the truck.
He explained that the deceased, believed to be in his early 30s, had been dragged along the road after falling from the motorbike.
The conductor mentioned that they observed from the road that the long-sleeved jeans shirt the deceased was wearing had been trapped between the truck’s tyre, pulling him under the moving vehicle, and leading to his death.
A driver of a private car involved in the incident said the motorbike, which was speeding, hit the back of his vehicle and veered off.
He said moments after the motorbike veered off, he also heard some sounds and stopped, only to see the rider lying under the KIA truck, with some parts of the motorbike mangled.
Police officers who noticed heavy traffic in the area quickly arrived at the scene and reported the incident to the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD).
MTTD officers and investigators arrived at the scene at about 1:30 p.m. and conveyed the deceased to the morgue.
Two men who later showed up at the scene identified the deceased as their colleague from APSONIC Motors, located at Caprice near Circle.
They said that the deceased was among three other colleagues who had worked just a few hours earlier to service a client’s motorbike, and died while returning to the office.
The tragic incident, which caused heavy traffic along the Tesano stretch, drew the attention of several commercial motorbike users, popularly known as okada riders.
The okada riders expressed disappointment over the delay in conveying the body of the deceased to the morgue.

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has made a U-turn on his earlier call for a reduction in DStv package prices for Ghanaians.
He stressed that economic stability goes beyond pricing. After initially advocating for lower subscription fees to ease the burden on consumers, the minister now emphasises that a stable economy and a strong currency are the real solutions.
He explained that when the economy is stable, multinational companies like MultiChoice can better forecast, plan, and invest in Ghana, ultimately benefiting consumers.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, September 29, 2025, Sam George praised the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, for his efforts to stabilise the cedi and the local economy.
“But trust me, Ato is forcing. Our finance minister is on his bit. He knows his job and he will deliver a stable currency and a stable economy. Because you see, what a stable currency does is not to make Sam George go and ask for reductions. It allows companies like MultiChoice to forecast and plan in bringing more investment into your country,” the communication minister said.

Just weeks earlier, in August 2025, Sam George had criticised the pricing disparity of DStv packages across African countries. He argued that Ghanaians were paying nearly 30% more than their neighbors, calling for fairer treatment.
He noted that the same premium bouquet package offered to Ghanaians at the equivalent of $83 was available to Nigerians for just $29.
He also revealed that in June 2024, MultiChoice had reduced premium package prices in Liberia by $30, despite similar market conditions to Ghana. Lower-tier bundles were also reduced by $17.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series in Accra on August 1, 2025, Sam George warned that if MultiChoice failed to reduce its prices in Ghana, the company’s broadcasting license would be suspended effective August 7, 2025.
Meanwhile, effective October 1, 2025, DStv subscribers in Ghana will benefit from value adjustments to subscription packages, depending on their bouquet.
This development follows a series of meetings between the Government of Ghana and the MultiChoice Group.
According to Sam George, Ghanaian subscribers can expect value increases of between 33% and 50% across DStv packages.

What began as a heated standoff between boxing promoter Michael Ayitey Okine, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, and National Sports Authority (NSA) boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has ended in reconciliation.
The controversy arose from the NSA’s decision to suspend all boxing activities following the tragic death of Ghanaian boxer Ernest Akushey, alias Bahubali, who passed away on September 23, 2025, just days after a sanctioned bout.
On September 26, 2025, the NSA announced its directive, sparking outrage within the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and among promoters.

Ayitey Powers openly criticised the NSA, accusing the authority of disrespect for failing to formally consult their offices before enforcing the suspension.

Ampofo Ankrah, in his defense, explained that he had reached out to Powers to discuss possible rescheduling of his upcoming promotion, but said their conversation was cut short. Tensions, however, began to ease over the weekend.

“I’m very happy to be with the honourable himself,” Ayitey Powers said, smiling as he shook hands and embraced the NSA chief.

Mbeya Regional Police Commander, SACP Benjamin Kuzaga
Police in Mbeya have confirmed that two suspects were fatally shot during an attempted arrest in Chunya District and that a third suspect later died after allegedly jumping from a police vehicle, in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Mzumbe University student Shyrose Mabula.
The victim, a second-year law student, was reported missing on September 14, 2025, and her charred body was discovered on September 16, 2025, in the Nane Nane area of Isyesye Ward, Mbeya City.
Regional Police Commander Benjamin Kuzaga said preliminary inquiries indicate the perpetrators intended to abduct Ms Mabula for ransom and, when that failed, killed her, poured herbicide, strangled her with a rope, and set the body alight in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.
Commander Kuzaga told The Citizen’s sister paper, Mwananchi, on Monday that police arrested Marwa John (25), a resident of Uzunguni A, on September 24, 2025.
Marwa is said to have confessed and identified Edward Kayuni.
Mwantembele, described by police as a security guard, later cooperated and guided officers to locations in Chunya District where the other suspects were believed to be hiding.
According to the commander, on September 27, officers travelled to Chalangwa Village, Chunya District, after Mr Mwantembele led them to a rendezvous point where Mr Kayuni was believed to be hiding.
When officers moved to arrest Mr Kayuni, he drew a knife and threatened the team.
He was then shot in the leg.
“Warning shots were fired but the suspect resisted and was subsequently shot in the leg,” Commander Kuzaga said.
During that fracas, Mwantembele also attempted to flee despite warnings and several shots being fired into the air; he was subsequently shot in the leg and the chest.
Both men were rushed to Chunya District Hospital but died while receiving treatment, Commander Kuzaga said.
After killing Shyrose, it was alleged that Marwa chopped off her right-hand finger and took it to a witch doctor who was alleged to be concealing items believed to be linked to the killing.
The police ordered Marwa to take them to the witch doctor. But on the way, he, allegedly, jumped from the police vehicle.
Inquiries into the exact circumstances of his death are continuing.
In searches carried out by investigators, police said they recovered two handcuffs (locally known as pingu), two forged Tanzania People’s Defence Force identity cards, mobile phones containing images alleged to be linked to criminal activity and the victim’s undergarments, which, police say, were reportedly taken to a traditional healer for ritual purposes.
Commander Kuzaga characterised the case as one motivated by financial gain.
“Our preliminary investigations show the suspects intended to obtain money from the victim’s family through abduction and, when that failed, they killed her to conceal evidence,” he said.
Family reaction
Reacting to the arrests and the subsequent deaths of the suspects, Dr Mabula Mahande, the victim’s father, praised the police for their professionalism and the assistance given to the family throughout the inquiry.
“I commend our police for fulfilling their duties. I request that they be equipped with modern tools because criminals change their methods every day; with better communication equipment, they will be more effective,” he said, urging residents to help expose criminals living in their communities.
The Regional Police issued a public appeal against pursuing wealth through criminal means.
“The police call on citizens to abandon the desire to obtain money and property by unlawful means. Crime does not pay, and the long arm of the law will reach those responsible wherever they are,” Commander Kuzaga said.
Investigations into the circumstances of Ms Mabula’s death remain ongoing, and police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward and assist in the inquiry.

Ghanaian DStv subscribers are set to enjoy significantly improved service offerings following what the government describes as a major concession by MultiChoice Africa.
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that MultiChoice Africa has committed to an “unprecedented increased value offer” specifically for the Ghanaian market.
The move comes after weeks of regulatory pressure and negotiations over DStv pricing in the country.
“MultiChoice Africa has committed to an unprecedented increase in value offer only in Ghana, which will result in Ghanaian DStv subscribers getting more services for less,” the Minister stated.
“Depending on the DStv package or bouquet you use, subscribers will get between 33% to 50% more value,” he added.
Under the new arrangement, subscribers on the Paddy bouquet will be upgraded to Access, while subscribers on the Access bouquet will automatically be upgraded to Family, and those on the Family bouquet will move up to Compact. Subscribers on Compact will be upgraded to Compact Plus, and those on Compact Plus will enjoy access to the Premium bouquet.
The Minister further explained that subscribers already on the Premium bouquet will not be left out — they will automatically be entered into a draw for a chance to win a fully paid trip to Dubai.
This arrangement will run for the next three months, after which the committee will reconvene to review the packages.
The announcement came at a press briefing scheduled for Monday, September 29, 2025, where the Minister officially presented the report of the stakeholder committee tasked with reviewing DStv’s pricing structure and operations in Ghana.
The committee, established by the National Communications Authority (NCA) on the Minister’s directive, began work on September 8, 2025. It was tasked with evaluating the fairness and commercial viability of DStv subscription fees, and addressing public concerns over affordability and service delivery.
The negotiations between the government and MultiChoice Ghana has been marked by tension, with the Minister repeatedly threatening regulatory action if price reductions were not implemented. MultiChoice, on the other hand, had resisted the push, citing operational and market challenges.
With this new value offering, the standoff appears to be easing, paving the way for a more collaborative relationship between the government and the satellite TV provider.

MobileMoney Limited’s MoMoFest 2025 has set a new benchmark for Ghana’s digital economy, fusing financial innovation with cultural engagement to drive cashless adoption and empower small businesses.
MoMoFest is showcasing the ecosystem approach as a transformative strategy to formalize informal trade, enhance revenue collection, and advance financial inclusion nationwide.
The festival wasn’t just another corporate event. It boldly demonstrated how mobile money can go beyond convenience to drive financial inclusion, support SME growth, and engage youth through culture and entertainment.
The two-day event took place at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium and climaxed with Sarkodie’s Rapperholic Concert. It became a live demonstration of how digital finance can transform both business and everyday life.
Cashless Market Redefines Trade At the heart of the festival was the MoMo Cashless Market and Fair, where more than 50 vendors including food sellers, artisans and fashion retailers traded exclusively through mobile money. For many SMEs, the experience highlighted the speed, safety and efficiency of going digital.
“This experience showed us that going cashless is not only safer but also more efficient. I was able to track every transaction on my phone, something I could never do with cash,” said a local artisan.
Organizers emphasized that digital transaction histories can help SMEs access loans, insurance and other financial services that often elude Ghana’s largely informal sector.
Financial Literacy and Inclusion
MoMoFest was also designed as an education campaign, raising awareness about fraud prevention and promoting financial literacy. Roadshows, interactive sessions and live demonstrations encouraged Ghanaians to embrace mobile money as a secure, transparent and convenient tool.
By promoting electronic payments, the initiative underscored long-term economic benefits such as lower transaction costs, better tax compliance and reduced risks linked to cash handling.
Partnerships Powering Growth
The festival highlighted the role of partnerships in Ghana’s fintech ecosystem. Collaborators such as MTN Enterprise Business, GCB Bank PLC, FNB Bank and aYo Insurance showcased products tailored to SMEs, from digital business accounts to micro-insurance and credit solutions.
Entertainment Meets Fintech
While business was at the core, entertainment amplified the message. Rapperholic 2025 drew thousands of fans, with tickets accessed through the MoMo app and all stadium purchases made cashless.
For many young attendees, it was their first encounter with a fully digital event. By linking entertainment with fintech, organizers turned mobile money from a financial tool into part of daily lifestyle.

The night peaked with a surprise collaboration between Sarkodie and Shatta Wale, alongside performances from Medikal, Kofi Kinaata, Efya, Donzy and Kweku Smoke. The show ran until dawn, ending MoMoFest on a high-energy note despite heavy rains.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam, to refund GH¢113,00 to the state.
The directive follows the hospital’s failure to recover the sum from officers whose negligence led to the payment of two separate judgment debts. One case involved a patient’s death due to an overdose of medication, while the other concerned the exhumation and reburial of a body after a mix-up in mortal remains.
During the session with the PAC, on Monday, September 29, the Ranking Member Samuel Atta-Mills questioned, “We recommended that the Acting Chief Executive Officer should recover the total amount of GHC113,000 from the officers whose negligence occasioned the payment of judgement debt and the same paid into the Auditor General’s Recoveries Account at Bank of Ghana, failing which the Acting Chief Executive Officer should pay. Have you done that?”
In response, Dr Adam admitted the hospital had not been able to recover the funds: “Hon. Chair [Abena Osei-Asare], we haven’t done that,” he said, before attempting to explain the delay.
The Ranking Member, however, cut in sharply to emphasise accountability and issue a clear directive: “Our Chief Executive Officer, we give you 90 days to pay this GHC113,000.”
The PAC’s directive underscores the committee’s commitment to enforcing financial accountability in state institutions and ensuring that lapses resulting in avoidable compensation payments are promptly addressed.

The Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to addressing critical concerns within the Mamponteng Municipality.
Her assurance comes in response to appeals from residents for the resumption of construction on the Mamponteng Jubilee Market project, which was initiated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2013.
According to the Kwabre East Municipal Assembly, the stalled market facility has deteriorated into a hideout for criminals, posing a threat to the safety of both residents and traders.
During a tour of the facility on Monday, September 29, the Vice President said that the Government would explore all possible avenues to secure funding and ensure the project’s completion.
“We need to explore all possible avenues to secure funding for the completion of the market. Let us come together to build the country in peace, and we will gradually complete all outstanding projects,” she said.
She also pledged that the educational needs of children in the municipality would be prioritised.
“The education of our children needs to be prioritised,” she stated

Ghanaian actor Kwaku Manu has challenged dancehall star Shatta Wale to stage a major concert in Kumasi before the end of 2025.
His call follows the success of Sarkodie’s Rapperholic Homecoming concert, held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 27, 2025.
The show marked the first time in more than a decade that Sarkodie moved his flagship event from Accra to Kumasi. Fans in the Ashanti Regional capital turned out in huge numbers, proving the city’s capacity to host major entertainment events.
How Sarkodie honoured late Daddy Lumba during Rapperholic concert
Kwaku Manu, reacting to the success of the show, dismissed the notion that Kumasi is not a viable location for mega concerts compared to Accra.
In a video circulating online, he urged Shatta Wale to follow Sarkodie’s lead.
“Sark tried it and it worked. When you do the same, it will also work. It has already worked. Kumasi has proven that when you guys come, the fans will come too. I’ll entreat Shatta Wale to host a concert in Kumasi this Christmas,” he said.
The actor also encouraged other top musicians, including Stonebwoy, to consider Kumasi when planning their shows.
Kwaku Manu further applauded Sarkodie for the way he handled the Kumasi edition of Rapperholic.
He praised the rapper for inviting Hiplife legend Obrafour to the stage and honouring him before the crowd, while also commending him for acknowledging comedian Dr Likee, popularly known as Akabenezer

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, September 29, 2025, he stated that MultiChoice Africa has committed to rolling out an unprecedented value offer in Ghana, providing subscribers between 33% and 50% more value depending on the package they use.

Sam George further outlined the new DStv packages set to take effect on October 1, 2025.

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has criticised some Ghanaians for subscribing to Nigerian DStv services due to their cheaper rates.
Labeling these individuals as unpatriotic, he questioned how the government can generate revenue for developmental projects if subscription fees are flowing to the Nigerian government instead.
Sam George suggested that Ghanaians who remain indifferent to this practice should face revocation of their citizenship.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, September 29, 2025, the minister was clear that those using Nigerian set-top boxes were denying Ghanaian shareholders and MultiChoice Ghana vital revenue.
He said, “If you are a Ghanaian and you love this country, you would love to see the country progress…we must never be afraid or run away from paying taxes as responsible citizens. Our concern must be what our government uses our taxes to do and that is why we have the opportunity every four years to change the government if we think they are not managing our taxes very well.”
“If you are a Ghanaian and you use the ghost boxes from Nigeria, you do two things. You deprive the Ghanaian shareholders and MultiChoice of revenue because you are paying to the Nigerian owners of Multichoice Nigeria. But more importantly, you deprive your own homeland of tax revenue…you don’t expect the Nigerian government to fix your road or connect water or electricity to your household,” he added.
Sam George further said, “You don’t expect the Nigerian government to come and give you healthcare. You expect the John Mahama government to do that for you. You cannot work for Coca Cola and at the end of the month, go to Pepsi for your salary…”
He revealed that for every legitimate DStv box in Ghana, authorities have deactivated five Nigerian ghost boxes so far.
The minister said a committee has been established to collaborate with MultiChoice to strengthen enforcement, crack down on ghost boxes, and block their operation.

Guinea will on December 28 hold its first presidential election since a coup in 2021, according to a decree read on state television.
The announcement was made on Saturday, a day after the Supreme Court validated the results of a referendum approving a new constitution that could allow coup leader Mamady Doumbouya to run. Doumbouya has not said whether he plans to.
The coup in Guinea was one of eight that swept West and Central Africa between 2020 and 2023.
Guinea is of international financial significance as the home to the world’s largest reserves of bauxite.
It also has the world’s richest untapped iron ore deposit at Simandou.
Some countries that experienced coups, such as Chad and Gabon, have since held elections formally marking transitions to civilian rule, while others, including Mali and Niger, have approved lengthy transition periods without the need for a vote.
Doumbouya’s government proposed a two-year transition to elections in 2022 after negotiating with regional bloc Ecowas, but it missed that deadline.
The new constitution replaces the transitional framework that had barred members of the junta from contesting elections, opening the door for Doumbouya’s candidacy.
It also introduces institutional changes, such as longer presidential terms, from five years to seven, renewable once, and a new Senate.
It passed with 89 percent of the vote, according to results published late Friday by the Supreme Court that put turnout at 92 percent.
Opposition politicians have contested the turnout figure, saying it did not square with their observations at polling stations that indicated sparse voter participation.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atiwa West, Amo Johnson, has clarified the confusion surrounding the recent commissioning of an astro turf project at Kwabeng, attributing the near-chaos to the Member of Parliament’s disregard for agreed procedures.
Speaking on Adom FM’s , Mr. Johnson said security personnel had maintained order in the district since Friday. He explained that any disruptions could only have arisen from the actions of MP Korkor Asante, who went ahead to commission the incomplete project despite warnings from the District Security Council (DISEC) and the police.
The facility, fully funded by GNPC, was initiated under former MP Kwasi Amoako-Atta’s tenure and is currently about 60 percent complete. According to the DCE, significant work remains before it can be officially commissioned.
“The fact that the carpet is on the field doesn’t mean the project is complete. It is one package that includes a 200-capacity facility. The contractor was not present, neither were GNPC representatives, traditional authorities, or the assembly—the true custodians of government projects,” he said.
Mr. Johnson accused the MP of sidelining key stakeholders and attempting to score political points ahead of the general election. He noted that the assembly had petitioned the Eastern Regional Minister, after which Ms. Asante agreed in a two-hour meeting to collaborate with the assembly, only to later defy the directive.
He added that all government projects are formally handed over to the assembly once completed. Commissioning without the contractor and stakeholders, he said, violated standard procedures.
“Where were the landowners? Where were the assembly members? Where was the assembly, which is the administrative head of the district? Can an MP alone run a government?” he questioned.
The DCE also rejected claims that the assembly was trying to frustrate the MP, emphasizing that the confusion was caused by her ignoring established processes.
“We have tried every means to engage her but to no avail. I don’t know whether she just wanted to attract media attention. I am just four months in office—if I had started a project the day I stepped in, it would not be ready to commission today,” he said.
Mr. Johnson assured that the assembly will only permit the official commissioning when the project is fully completed, handed over by the contractor, and all stakeholders are involved. The MP is yet to comment on the matter.

Twenty-three national service personnel from the Young Agribusiness Professionals (YAPP) Programme – Cohort 3 have been commended for their outstanding hard work and dedication to driving youth agribusiness in the country.
The personnel, under the initiative, organised by Agri-Impact Limited and the Mastercard Foundation, underwent flagship mentoring, technical training, field experiences and capacity-building programmes to equip them with the skills, experiences and opportunities in the agribusiness sector.
Speaking at the grande finale and awards night for the cohort, group CEO of Agri-Impact, Daniel Fahene Acquaye, said the YAPP Programme through the training and field experiences resulted in three of the personnels generating GH¢350,000 revenue from managing a one-acre greenhouse farm in Dawhenya, within eight months.
The CEO added that service personnel have played critical roles beyond farming— with some now serving as marketing officers, Information Technology innovators introducing digital solutions, and safeguarding specialists conducting independent field assessments.
“This proves that when given the right training, responsibility, and dignity, our young people are more than capable of delivering excellence. We are proving that young people, when mentored and trusted, can drive productivity, reduce imports, and contribute directly to food security,” he stressed.
Mr. Acquaye, advised the private and public sectors to reimagine the role of national service personnel, positioning them as valuable assets capable of driving innovation, productivity, and national development rather than relegating them to errands and menial tasks.
“Too often, when young people are posted for national service, they are seen as a burden. Institutions assign them to buy food, run errands, or move files.
“The narrative that young people don’t like agriculture is changing. We are ready to absorb between 1,000 and 2,000 service personnel annually and link them to relevant industries for national impact,” he affirmed.
The Director-General of the National Service Authority, Ruth Dela Seddoh, expressed appreciation to Agri-Impact and the Mastercard Foundation for their partnership in equipping young graduates for leadership roles in agribusiness.
“We couldn’t have had it any better than what they have done for us. With their support and our readiness to work together, the future is very bright. Congratulations to us.” she said.
The awards night witnessed Calvin Adjei (Agri-Impact Limited), Francis Mbroh (Fresh Logistics), Emmanuel Osom (Technoserve), and Esinam Yanka (Catholic Relief Services) winning the Overall Best category.
Special recognitions went to Francis Mbroh for Innovation, Esinam Yanka for Leadership, and Abigail Sume for Team Player.
A Special Group Award was presented to the Habanero Team from Fresh Logistics, comprising Francis Mbroh, Dennis Bamflo, and Edward Darko, for their collaborative excellence.
