Ghana striker Inaki Williams continued his bountiful run of form in La Liga with a ruthless goal in Athletic Bilbao’s 7-1 trouncing of Real Valladolid on Sunday afternoon at San Mames Stadium.
The Ghanaian international fired home in the 87th minute to wrap up a dominant display by the Basque side. His goal was his fifth of the season.
Williams has been a fixture in Athletic’s frontline, using his lightning speed, astute movement, and clinical striking to give defenders headaches.
His ability to pull defences apart and find room out wide of the defence has made him a nuisance for opposition defences, and his latest goal is an indication of his growing confidence in front of goal.
The Black Stars forward has enjoyed a decent season so far, proving his worth not just in terms of goals but also at work rate and his interplay.
His contribution has helped Athletic maintain their competitiveness in La Liga, hoping to end on a high in the league.
The 30-year-old delivered an assist for the sixth goal after setting up Gorka Guruzeta, taking his assists tally in the season to eight after 24 La Liga appearances.

Okudzeto Ablakwa Urges Vincent Ekow Assafuah to Put in More Effort During Vetting
News Hub Creator47min
During a recent ministerial vetting, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa told Vincent Ekow Assafuah that he needs to do more work, as the efforts he had put in so far were insufficient.
In his remarks, Ablakwa stated, “Chairman, my good friend and honorable Vincent Ekow Assafuah has to do more work. With all due respect, the work he has done is not enough. I made an RTI request and asked the DACF administrator if he had paid duties on the trucks, and he said no. There are people importing the trucks and paying duties, so of course, this situation is bound to happen. I keep talking about comparing apples to pepper, and this has to stop. When it comes to tipper trucks, there are many different types, models, and years. So, Mr. Chairman, oversimplifying matters is not helpful, and I am ready to submit the work we did.”
Ablakwa further explained, “I mentioned procurement breaches, no value for money, and inflationary pricing, and I am convinced that Ghana could have saved 100 million dollars. We need to stop comparing vehicles that have been imported with duties to those that are being bought without paying duties, as this comparison isn’t helpful.”

The force of prophecy should never be underestimated, and Ghana’s renowned seers continue to prove their influence in shaping public discourse. In a recent interview on Kwaku Sampah TV on YouTube, influential prophet Telvin Sowah, a leading figure in Ghana’s prophetic ministry, shared startling predictions concerning the future of former President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo.
Prophet Telvin Sowah, whose earlier forecasts regarding former President John Dramani Mahama were validated during the 2024 elections, now turns his attention to Nana Addo. According to his prophecy, Nana Addo is set to retreat from the limelight of mainstream politics. The prophet foresees a future where the former president’s absence from national debates sparks widespread speculation among Ghanaians—many will wonder if he has effectively abandoned his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Unlike his predecessor, President Kufuor, who was known for engaging in national issues, Nana Addo is predicted to maintain a notable silence on key matters. This quietude, according to Telvin Sowah, will soon become a subject of intense discussion across social television and social media platforms.
The prophet also recalled Nana Addo’s political journey: after losing the 2012 elections to John Dramani Mahama, he made a dramatic comeback by defeating Mahama in both the 2016 and 2020 contests. Despite his vigorous efforts to rally support for his Vice President, Bawumia, during those elections, challenges persisted.
As the political landscape evolves, Prophet Telvin Sowah, the founder of one of Ghana’s respected churches, promised to return in his next interview with further revelations about the 2028 elections. He hinted that his prophecy may even signal a resurgence for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), suggesting that a win for the party could be on the horizon—whether it comes with or after Mahama’s era.
This latest prophecy is already stirring discussions among political enthusiasts and social media users alike, as many eagerly await further details that could redefine Ghana’s political future.

Haruna Iddrisu Invited Me To The Front Bench To Teach Me How To Become A Good Debater- Edem Agbana

Honourable Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament for the Ketu North Constituency, has expressed gratitude to Honourable Haruna Iddrisu for mentoring him on how to excel as a debater in Parliament.
In a Facebook post, the first-time MP revealed that Haruna Iddrisu invited him to the front bench for a discussion on mastering the art of debating in the chamber. He expressed deep appreciation to the education minister for the rare opportunity to sit on the front bench as a new MP, noting that he gained valuable insights during their thirty-minute conversation.
He wrote, “Today, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu walked into the chamber and invited me to join him on the front bench for a conversation. For those familiar with parliamentary culture, as a first-time MP, it’s uncommon to even stand near these prominent seats. During our 30-minute discussion, he generously shared invaluable insights on becoming a better debater in the House. The best mentors guide us not just to learn but to unlock our own potential.”
Edem Agbana entered Parliament after winning the 2024 parliamentary elections on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The former president of the University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council (SRC) has impressed many with his maiden speech in Parliament, with some already seeing him as a potential future leader of the NDC.

The Administrator of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Mr Paul Adjei, has called for the diversification of funding for developing educational infrastructure in the country.
According to him relying solely on the fund for such development was not sustainable, stressing that “We must begin to find innovative and diversified funding sources to address Ghana’s school infrastructure needs across all educational levels.”
Speaking at the three-day National Education Forum which came to a close at the Volta Regional capital of Ho over the weekend, Mr Adjei explained that the over reliance on GETFund as the primary funding source for developing educational infrastructure across levels was having a toll on the fund.
This, he said could lead to the ultimate collapse of the fund stressing that “The time has come for stakeholders to explore alternative financing models, including private sector investments, community-driven initiatives, diaspora contributions, endowment funds and philanthropic foundations.”
Mr Adjei who also delivered a paper on “Government and Stakeholder Partnerships in School Infrastructure Development in Ghana” during one of the forum’s five breakout sessions, highlighted the need for cost-effective and time-efficient solutions to addressing the infrastructure deficit in schools.
He said the country must start exploring the use of high-quality prefabricated materials and green solutions in school construction projects.
These materials, he said could significantly reduce costs and expedite project delivery.
The discussion also underscored the importance of fostering community ownership and involvement in school facility management and maintenance.
Additionally, participants advocated a phased-approach to large-scale infrastructure projects, especially at the tertiary level to enable partial use of facilities before full completion.
The forum, was on the theme: “Transforming education for a sustainable future.”
In attendance was President John Dramani Mahama, academic experts and teachers.
The forum encouraged all Ghanaians to actively participate in shaping a comprehensive blueprint for education development.

In an exclusive interview with Ghana Weekend News seen by zionfelix.net, the controversial fashion icon revealed that his much-anticipated wedding is scheduled to take place on August 15, 2025.
Speaking about the dignity of his bride-to-be, Osebo mentioned that the new woman in his life is a private person, someone completely unknown to the media space.
Unlike his previous relationships that often attracted public attention, Osebo emphasized that his fiancée prefers to stay away from the spotlight.
Speaking passionately about his future wife, the 24/7 Boutique owner described her as respectful, humble, God-fearing, and very submissive.
He added that the names she calls him, like Daasebra, Ohene, and many more, make him love her even more.
The upcoming wedding marks Osebo’s return to the altar after a complicated romantic history.
The fashion star was previously married, though that union ended controversially.
He also gained significant media attention for his relationship with celebrated Ghanaian broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah, with whom he shares a son.
Members of Parliament, whose primary functions include the enactment of laws, are generally expected to be law-abiding at all times.
When they fail, they are not treated with kid gloves, as the law is no respecter of persons, and they are dealt with just like any other citizens.
One such legislator who has recently received media and public attention is the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi. He is the latest MP to have a bench warrant issued for his arrest.
GhanaWeb takes a look at four MPs who have erred on the wrong side of the law and have had a court issue a bench warrant for their arrest in the last four years.
Ernest Yaw Kumi, MP for Akwatia
On February 19, 2025, a Koforidua High Court issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the presumed winner of the Akwatia parliamentary seat in the Eastern Region, after convicting him of contempt of court.
The court issued the bench warrant for Kumi’s arrest after he failed to attend court.
The conviction followed his disobedience of an interim injunction against him on January 7, prohibiting him from being sworn in and admitted as the Member of Parliament-elect for the Akwatia constituency due to an ongoing legal contest over his election.
Despite this injunction, Mr. Kumi presented himself in Parliament to be sworn in on January 7, 2025.
The judge, Justice Senyo Amedahe, held that the convict, throughout the hearing of the contempt case, failed to appear in court in person.
He also rejected a letter from the minority side of Parliament claiming the MP was busy with parliamentary duties, hence his continuous absence from court.
The judge dismissed the letter, insisting he would be going against his own ruling should he accept the letter from the minority caucus.
Stephen Amoah, MP for Nhyiaeso
In 2021, the La Magistrate Court issued an arrest warrant for the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, over his failure to appear before the court for flouting road traffic regulations.
The lawmaker and six other drivers were arrested on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, around the Airport Bypass during a police operation to arrest drivers of V8 vehicles who were not complying with road traffic regulations.
A police statement signed by the Director-General of Public Affairs, ACP Kwesi Ofori, stated that of the seven, only Dr. Amoah and another driver, Samuel, failed to appear before the court.
Five of the suspected drivers appeared before the court, where four—namely, Dominic Atuahene-Ababio, Daniel Boateng, Emmanuel Kofi Ofori, and Joseph Brown—were sentenced to pay a fine of One Thousand, Eight Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC 1,800.00) each or, in default, serve three-month prison terms. All four convicted drivers paid their fines.
Another driver, Thomas Atinga, was convicted and ordered to sign a bond to be of good behavior for three months or, in default, serve a three-month prison term.
The statement further directed all police formations throughout the country to clamp down on recalcitrant drivers, especially those who drive V8 vehicles.
“They (recalcitrant drivers) are cautioned to stop flouting road traffic regulations or face the full rigors of the law if arrested,” the statement said.
“We are determined to enforce the laws of the country and therefore urge the public to support us in this endeavor.”
Francis-Xavier Sosu, MP for Madina
On November 29, 2021, the Kaneshie District Court in Accra issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Madina MP, Francis-Xavier Sosu.
The warrant followed his absence from a hearing at the Kaneshie District Court on Monday morning.
Mr. Sosu had been absent from the two previous court hearings, citing parliamentary work.
However, according to correspondence from the court outlining exchanges between the Madina MP’s lawyer and the prosecution, the prosecution deemed the warrant necessary because the MP was showing disrespect to the court by being absent.
Mr. Sosu’s lawyer, however, argued that the MP was involved in work for the Constitutional and Legal Committee of Parliament, which had resumed public sittings on the anti-LGBTQ bill.
Mr. Sosu faced these legal challenges after leading a demonstration in his constituency to protest bad roads on October 25, 2021.
The police contended that the protest included some unlawful acts, leading to an attempt to arrest the MP. Mr. Sosu claimed that police manhandled him on the day of the protest when they first tried to arrest him.
As a result, he filed a complaint in Parliament against two police officers.
There were also police officers present at a church service to arrest the MP, although the police denied any attempt to arrest him at the church.
This compelled the police to secure a criminal summons for Mr. Sosu on November 8, 2021.
The MP, however, missed the court date because he was out of the country.
On November 16, 2021, he again failed to show up in court.
In response to his legal troubles, Mr. Sosu filed a motion seeking the enforcement of his right to freedom of movement, right to protest and demonstrate, right to personal liberty, right to freedom of expression, and protection against unlawful arrest and malicious prosecution.
The motion was accompanied by an injunction application to restrain any further arrest until a determination was made in the human rights case.
Affo Toffey, MP for Jomoro
On December 7, 2021, a Sekondi High Court issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Jomoro MP, Dorcas Affo Toffey, whose eligibility to contest the 2020 parliamentary election was being challenged on the grounds of dual citizenship.
Presiding over the case, Justice Sedina Agbemava issued the warrant following the MP’s absence from a court hearing on Monday.
A contempt case was filed against Madam Toffey by Joshua Emuah Kofie, a resident of Nuba-Mpataba in the constituency, after the MP allegedly failed to appear before the court registrar to produce documents proving her supposed renunciation of her Ivorian citizenship, as ordered by the Sekondi High Court.
Earlier in 2021, the NDC legislator was sued for allegedly possessing dual citizenship before the 2020 election.
Her qualification to represent the Jomoro constituency in Parliament was, therefore, challenged.
Although the embattled lawmaker filed a stay of execution of the High Court’s order for her to produce documents proving the renunciation of her alleged Ivorian citizenship, the application was dismissed in July.

The North East Region has faced a turbulent start to the year, marked by protests, communal violence, and rising insecurity.
The unrest began with demonstrations in the eastern part of the region, where residents of Chereponi, Yunyoo, and Bunkprugu constituencies protested against what they describe as the government’s lack of representation.
Despite strongly supporting President Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), residents say no local representatives, including their Members of Parliament (MPs), have been appointed to significant positions.
Tensions escalated in the Bunkprugu-Nakpanduri district when protests turned violent. Party properties were destroyed in Nakpanduri as demonstrators demanded that President Mahama appoint their MP to a deputy ministerial role.
This followed earlier chaos in January when NDC supporters seized government offices and warehouses in Chereponi.
Meanwhile, communal clashes erupted in Ngagma-Gbregu, a small farming community near Binde.
The violence, which lasted from February 5 to February 8, was reportedly triggered by the installation of rival chiefs, allegedly sanctioned by the Paramount Chief of the Piib Traditional Area.
The clashes left nearly 100 houses burned and displaced over 500 residents.
Touring the affected communities, MP Abednago Bandim urged the government to provide immediate humanitarian assistance, including shelter and food for the displaced.
Adding to the region’s turmoil, insecurity in Bawku sparked violence in the Walewale area.
Unidentified gunmen targeted the Nasia-Walewale-Bolga Road, attacking commercial vehicles and killing travellers in apparent retaliation for similar attacks along the Bolga-Bawku-Pulmakom Road. Reprisal attacks on January 14, February 5, 8, and 11 reportedly claimed eight lives.
In response, the government imposed an unprecedented curfew on Walewale and surrounding communities.
However, enforcement of the curfew has been marred by reports of military brutality. Two residents in Walewale and Loagri have reportedly died from clashes with security forces, with many others injured and properties destroyed.
Local authorities are urging calm and calling on the new government to intensify efforts to restore stability to the region.

John Dramani Mahama made a historic return to the presidency, but his promise to reset the Ghanaian economy to fix the shortcomings of the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government carries high stakes. The journey ahead demands tough choices.
Tough choices that must balance social relief with fiscal discipline in the midst of mounting pressure to deliver on the numerous promises made to the electorate. But the country’s economy has been battered both on the domestic and international fronts, the worst of it being a total shut-out from the international capital market.
Fixing this will require urgent recalibration , but can Mahama 2.0 lead Ghana out of its current economic quagmire?
John Mahama’s victory, just like that of his predecessor President Nana Akufo-Addo, was won on the back of ambitious policies targeted at stimulating job creation, economic growth, and industrialisation. While Akufo-Addo promised one-district-one-factory, Mahama has promised the 24-hour economy. For policies like the Year of Roads, One-District-One-Dam, and Agenda 111, which promised massive infrastructural investment in the erstwhile government, Mahama has proposed the Big Push, and so on.
In spite of all the grand promises, the past administration was marked by prolonged currency volatility, rising inflation, high cost of living, stifled private sector growth, and unsustainable debt levels. Worse still, external shocks like the COVID-19 pandemic and global commodity price fluctuations exposed structural weaknesses in the economy, forcing a $3 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout.
Even as Mahama assembles his team to deliver on his promises, many of the issues that got the erstwhile NPP government booted out still linger and could threaten the success of his reset agenda.
Aware of this reality, President Mahama’s first major move is a national economic dialogue for stakeholder engagement to unpick the challenges and align public needs with government policies.
At a period when public debt sits at more than 70% to GDP, nothing could be timelier. A dialogue is a good start. After the talk comes the inevitable heavy lifting. Debt servicing, including the double whammy of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) and External Debt Restructuring alone, currently accounts for nearly half of government’s annual revenue. Consequently, the country’s debt stock remains profoundly unsustainable.
Mahama’s first budget to be presented in March is not only a critical test of his policy intentions but also an economic balancing act of improving domestic revenue while yet, removing unpopular taxes such as the E-Levy, Betting tax and COVID-19 Levy. With an apparent potential loss in revenue, it waits to be seen whether the government’s ‘priority of priorities’ – easing the burden on consumers and businesses – will deliver the needed growth to justify the act itself.
This is especially because there isn’t until now, any clear direction of alternatives to fill the multi-billion-cedi hole expected to be created by the scrapping of these tax handles.
Without sustained revenue, the huge energy sector debt, for example, can not be cleared, and the cycle of poor program implementation and infrastructure implementation will continue. As finance minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson eyes raising tax revenue-to-GDP ratio from 13.8% to 16%,he faces a big question of how and the maiden budget should answer this.
Mahama’s handling of the local currency will be important. Investors, businesses, and ordinary citizens alike are keen to see clear plans and actions that will stabilise the cedi’s performance against other major trading currencies. Whether through foreign direct investment, strategic commodity exports, and regulation through its Gold Board initiative, for example, or even building strong buffers with the reserves at the Bank of Ghana, nothing should be off the table.
In the midst of all these, there is growing uncertainty about the future of the current IMF programme as President Mahama and his finance minister Dr. Ato Forson contradict each other on whether the programme may be extended or not. With or without an extension, there is a strong appetite to review the programme. This may mean flexibility in fiscal targets to allow for more growth-oriented spending. Care is to be taken so as to not vitiate the resurging investor confidence brought by the change of government, however small that confidence is.
For many Ghanaians, Mahama and the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) return is a good sign for the economy. The oversubscription in treasury bills and the massive rejections in some of the bids may well be a foretelling of what the reset agenda may bring. But such is the goodwill that comes with new governments and Mr Mahama must learn from errors of the one-time shining economic star of Africa called Ghana – which was the world’s fastest growing economy in 2019 – and be prudent.
Yes, Ghana’s economy needs a reset to deliver an improved standard of living and prosperity for all. But Mr Mahama’s true test lies ahead – Can he turn the promise of a reset into a sustainable economic rebound for Ghana? Only time will tell. In the meantime, I wish the government well.

Speaking on the maiden edition of his For the Records show, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah questioned the necessity of the fact-finding committee established by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to investigate the cause of its embarrassment in the 2024 elections.
He blamed former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the party’s defeat.
Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has reaffirmed her commitment to bringing wisdom and experience to the Council of State.
She is among the 31 distinguished members of the Council, a key advisory body to the President.
Akuffo and her fellow members were officially sworn in by President John Dramani Mahama on February 19.
In an interview with Accra-based TV3 on Sunday, February 23, she reflected on her extensive career and leadership roles, expressing confidence in her ability to contribute meaningfully to national governance.
“I think I am bringing on a lot of wisdom and a lot of experience. Sometimes, when people see my very detailed CV, they are kind of surprised that it looks like I have done everything. I have been in management, I have been in corporate life, I have been in private corporate life, I have been a private legal practitioner.”
Her impressive legal career spans decades, during which she played pivotal roles in shaping Ghana’s judiciary.
She served as Chief Justice from 2017 to 2019, overseeing significant judicial reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and integrity within the legal system.
Beyond her judicial work, the former Chief Justice has also contributed significantly to legal education and corporate governance.
“Even as a judge, I was very much involved in judicial education and so many different things, varied things, all of which one can bring to bear in whatever area of life one finds oneself involved in,” she remarked.
Her tenure as Chief Justice was characterised by efforts to modernise court processes, advocate for legal education improvements, and champion judicial independence.
Prior to assuming the role of Chief Justice, she served on Ghana’s Supreme Court for over two decades, during which she adjudicated landmark cases that shaped the country’s legal landscape.

Am I hearing well and rightly that President Mahama described Ghana rhetorically as an “economic crime scene” before 7 January 2025 that has to be reset? I am more interested in knowing what President Mahama in opposition and his minority in Parliament did concretely for Ghanaians during the interregnum when the economy was being turned into an economic crime scene with Parliament approving the yearly budget and economic policy statement along with the yearly appropriations before January 2025.
President John Agyekum Kufour sent Ghana to HIPC using this same empty “economic crime” scene rhetoric as his smokescreen upon his assumption of power on 7 January 2001.
After Agyekum Kufour’s eight-year tenure, the succeeding President Mills and the John Mahama regime also employed the same or similar rhetoric after 7 January 2009 to enable it to go to China for the Three Billion US Dollar loan facility.
The NPP used this same “economic crime scene” rhetoric or words to the same effect to describe what it inherited on 7 January 2017 from President Mahama’s former tenure. The STX, and Saglemi housing projects respectively, Waterville/Woyome, Isofoton SA, “create loot and share” projects, and others became part of that economic crime scene rhetoric.
What of the “political crime scene” unfolding under President Mahama’s watch between 7 January 2025 and 18 February 2025, less than two months after his assumption of office, preceded by all his promises of repentance and redemption? The whip would not crack?
The rhetoric of inheriting politico-economic crime scenes has been part of the rhetoric of every new government under the 1992 Constitution since 7 January 2001 to date, and that is precisely the reason for the electorate wagering their luck with President John Dramani Mahama again on 7 December 2024 upon his can-do promises.
We the people voted for President Mahama for firm and impartial leadership and not worn-out politico-economic rhetorical excuses. Hopefully, Mr. President’s “economic crime scene” rhetoric is not a preparation of our minds for another HIPC or China loan as has been usual with NPP and NDC governments under the 1992 Constitution. Straight to the point!
The electorate is not foolish and unthinking, Mr. President, that is the import of my articles before the path you are making gets more crooked behind you through the unbridled sycophancy surrounding you, junior brother! When Cadman Mills warned you earlier about sycophants and sycophancy, the sycophants mercilessly verbally assaulted him.
I also have a vested interest in your success. You must not fail again and send the NDC into opposition come 7 December 2028.
Please, brother, walk your pre-election can-do talk! Asalamalekum! Shalom aleichem! Peace be upon you!

Economist and finance lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, Professor Lord Mensah, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to prioritize individuals with independent thinking in appointing the Bank of Ghana (BoG) deputy governors.
His comments come in the wake of the President naming Dr. Zakari Mumuni as the First Deputy Governor of the central bank pending approval from the Council of State, with a second deputy governor expected to be named soon to replace Dr. Elsie Awadzi who is taking an early retirement from the Central Bank, effective February 28, 2025.
Speaking to Citi Business News, Professor Mensah stressed the importance of maintaining the Bank of Ghana’s autonomy, noting that those appointed to such critical roles must have the ability to act in the best interest of the economy rather than align strictly with political directives.
He pointed out that the Central Bank plays a pivotal role in shaping monetary policy and financial stability, making it essential for its leadership to be composed of professionals who can make independent decisions without undue influence.
“The Central Bank has some operational autonomy but when it comes to appointment on to the boards and top hierarchy of the bank, it has to do with the Executive. Even if you are appointed, you need to look at the function rather than looking at the person who appointed you. It is very key.
“The independence is very important so that as a Central Bank, even though our constitution does not give us enough leeway to get an independent Central Bank, the individuals that are appointed should be able to stand on their own.
“There should be respect that the Executive will give to the Central Bank. We didn’t get that in the previous administration when it comes to the relationship between the Executive and those spearheading the Central Bank.
“The two deputies and the governor himself, they compromised their independence. They gave too much respect to the Executive and that is what brought us to where we find ourselves now. The Finance Minister of the day should have enough respect for the Central Bank because it forms a bank for the State,” Professor Lord Mensah said.
Following the U.S. government’s issuance of a stop-work order on USAID funding, civil society organizations (CSOs) in the northern region have come together to assess its impact on communities, share their experiences, and explore alternative funding opportunities.
This gathering serves as a platform to highlight their resilience and innovative responses to the challenges posed by the funding halt, with a particular focus on the way forward.
CSOs are facing uncertainty, fearing that the progress they have made could be reversed due to the abrupt funding suspension. Stakeholders worry that without immediate intervention, the gains achieved so far may be lost.
The directive to suspend all USAID funding has left many organizations in turmoil, leading to job losses and disruptions in critical development programs. The stop-work order follows concerns about excessive spending that, according to U.S. authorities, does not align with the interests of the American people. Nearly three weeks into the suspension, CSOs in the region remain uncertain about what will happen after the 90-day review period.
Speaking to the Executive Director of Norsaac, Mohammed Awal Alhassan, emphasized that northern Ghana has been the largest beneficiary of USAID funding—amounting to over $200 million.
He stressed the urgent need for intervention to prevent further widening of the development gap between the northern and southern regions. “With this type of challenge, there will be a need for the sector to be given attention, to look at how to mobilize resources to fill the gap. Otherwise, we will widen the gap that currently exists between the north and south, and I think it is not something that we want to see.”
Some CSOs attributed the current funding freeze to the previous administration’s “Ghana Beyond Aid” policy, arguing that public declarations should be backed by concrete policy actions. They urged the government to focus on achieving tangible results rather than making broad policy statements.
Hardi Tijani expressed concerns that USAID funding might not return to its previous form, potentially having a long-term impact on Ghana’s ability to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. “The USAID will not come back the same. Countries, including Ghana, need to include their civil society to come together and work towards reorganizing and also looking at the development trajectory generally and how to reallocate resources to areas that they are not doing so well with so that we can meet the target of the country in terms of the SDG goals set.”
Despite these challenges, CSOs have commended the president for engaging with the finance minister on the issue. However, they are also looking at alternative funding sources. If USAID does not resume its support after 90 days, they hope to collaborate in mobilizing resources from other donors to sustain stalled projects.
Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, has made a solemn call on President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider his directive that appointments and recruitments made post-election last year should be revoked.
The government has cancelled appointments and recruitments following the president’s directive issued through his Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.
This has affected many nurses and other public sector workers, including recruits made under the Akufo-Addo regime.
Tackling the issue during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Vincent Ekow Assafuah noted many young Ghanaians are wailing under this new administration.
According to him, this decision is compounding the plight of the youth; hence, he pleaded with President John Mahama to rescind his decision for the sake of the masses.
“His Excellency the President, respectfully, on behalf young men and young women in this country, we are appealing to you that please put your empathy cap on… The toils of these young men and young women cannot be sacrificed on the altar of partisanship,” he exclaimed.
He further intimated that the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, and himself have petitioned the Supreme Court on grounds that the revocation of the appointments and recruitments is “unconstitutional.”

The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCO) has announced plans to conduct feasibility studies this year to explore expanding its gas supply to additional areas.
This announcement follows ongoing maintenance work, which has resulted in the temporary suspension of the reverse gas flow from Takoradi to Tema and led to the shutdown of key facilities in Lomé, Togo, and Cotonou, Benin. The maintenance is expected to be completed by March 2, 2025, after which gas flow will resume.
During a press briefing, Ing. Benoni Owusu Ayeh, the Operations and Maintenance Superintendent for Western Operations at WAPCO, emphasized that the company is evaluating the financial investment required to achieve this goal.
“We need standby compressors, so additional investment is necessary, but it depends on demand. This will influence further investment in these facilities, which require upgrades to meet full capacity. We will begin the study this year, “he noted.
Meanwhile, the company has announced that 70% of its ongoing maintenance works have been completed, bringing the company closer to resuming gas supply to Tema.
The comprehensive cleaning and inspection exercise is a key regulatory requirement and aligns with industry best practices to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP). The project encompasses the entire pipeline infrastructure, from Itoki in Ogun State, Nigeria to Takoradi in Western Region, Ghana.
The cleaning exercise is in two phases. The first phase, completed in December 2024, involved cleaning and inspecting the onshore section of the pipeline within Nigeria.
The second phase scheduled to run from February 3 to March 2, 2025, will focus on the offshore section of the WAGP, stretching from Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria to Takoradi, Western Region, Ghana.
WAPCO is required to conduct these inspections every five years, as part of efforts to maintain the integrity of the WAGP and ensure its continued safe and reliable operation across the West African region.

Godwin Kudzo Tameklo assured businesses operating in the LPG distribution chain of the petroleum downstream industry of the NPA’s continued collaboration to deal with the lingering issues and promote growth.
He gave the assurance when he toured LPG Bottling Plants belonging to Goil, New Gas and Blue Ocean in the Tema enclave, to acquaint himself with the new LPG distribution chain.
Mr. Tameklo was accompanied by his two deputies, Dr. Sheila Addo and Dr. Dramani Bukari.
He stated that the NPA is very pro-business in the exercise of its regulatory mandate as it protects Ghanaian businesses that comply with the standards and play by the rules.
Commenting on the challenges enumerated by the bottling plant owners, the NPA Boss said the Authority would address the issue of unlicensed companies offering LPG door-to-door services which undermines safety protocols for handling LPG.

Nana Akomea, Former Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation
Former Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has criticized former President John Mahama over his decision to revoke public sector appointments made after December 7, 2024.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, recently issued a directive that all public sector appointments and recruitments made after the December 7 elections be annulled, citing concerns about non-compliance with good governance practices and principles. The move has sparked significant debate, with many questioning the timing and intentions behind such a decision.
Speaking on the Kokrokoo morning show on Peace FM, Nana Akomea raised questions about the reason for the revocation.
“Is this Mahama’s method of resetting the nation as he pledged during his campaign?” he inquired. Akomea also expressed worries about the larger consequences of such moves, wondering if it suggests that when a government loses an election, it essentially forfeits its decision-making authority until the new president is inaugurated.
“Does this mean when a government loses an election, it has no power to do anything until the next president is sworn in? Meanwhile, he also did the same thing in December 2016. What is this? Is this the reset you talked about?” Akomea asked the President.
The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has urged the government to implement targeted policies to boost local manufacturing as part of its economic reset efforts.
AGI emphasized that the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy initiative—set for full rollout—must incorporate strategic support for the manufacturing sector to drive long-term economic transformation.
Speaking after a high-level engagement with government officials at the Association’s 2025 National Council Retreat, AGI President Dr. Humphrey Ayim-Darke stressed the need for bold policy reforms to spur industrial growth.
The discussions, featuring Presidential Advisor on the Economy Seth Terkper, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy Goosie Tanoh, and Ghana Revenue Authority Commissioner-General, focused on key interventions to strengthen local industries and enhance their competitiveness.
“Our areas of focus were the poultry value chain, the metal fabrication and metal works, pharmaceuticals including the vegetable oils and cosmetics industries. To the best of our abilities we believe that once government focuses on these and we develop the value chain the Association of Ghana will be very useful in resetting the economy with government as well as resetting manufacturing industries,” he said.
“In the context of our discussions, issues that were limiting against our operations i.e the forex, the taxes and other policy related reforms were tabled by the membership of the association,” he added.
For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Association, Seth Twum-Akwaboah, emphasized that assurances from the new administration to streamline tax administration must be fully implemented.
He added that: “One key issue that stood out was the tax arbitration system where if there are issues with taxes you don’t necessarily have to resort to court but you must go to the tax arbitration system which is a composition of both the private sector, institutions and individuals to deal with the issues.”
The 2025 AGI National Council Retreat which was under the theme: “Resuscitating Industries to Spur Growth: Fiscal Balance and Job Creation “ collated ideas from over twenty sectors for the National Economic Dialogue and the 2025 Budget.
For obvious reasons, super gross movies aren’t going to be for everyone, and even those who don’t mind gross movies are probably going to have times when they’d rather not experience something shocking. But it’s the sign of a healthy art form if boundaries are tested, pushed, or even obliterated, because otherwise, things run the risk of feeling too stagnant.
The school has been shut down on the orders of the he Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC)
The Sokode Senior High Technical School has been shut down following a violent clash between students and residents of the Sokode community.
The decision to shut down the school was taken by the Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC) on Sunday, 23rd February.
Details indicate that on Friday, 21st February, 2025, some students entered the community without permission and engaged in confrontations with local residents, resulting in one resident sustaining an injury.
On Sunday, 23rd February, some young people from the community stormed the school seeking revenge, leading to a confrontation between the student population of over one thousand and the smaller group of town residents.
The community members sustained injuries, with some students also being hurt, and school property, including a vehicle belonging to a staff member, was damaged.
The Regional Minister, James Gunu deployed security officers to restore calm.

Former president Akufo-Addo [L] and Ken Ofiri-Atta
A post-mortem of the NPP’s disastrous 2024 election performance has revealed that President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to reshuffle his Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, and deepening party factionalism were key factors in the party’s downfall.
The report which is available to MyNewsGh, highlights that 87% of respondents believed Akufo-Addo’s unyielding stance on Ofori-Atta’s removal was a turning point that alienated both voters and party members.
In 2022, 87 MPs, mostly from the Ashanti Region, returned from recess after listening to their constituents and publicly demanded Ofori-Atta’s dismissal.
However, the President dismissed these calls, which was widely perceived as putting personal loyalty over party interest.
The consequences were severe. The report suggests that Akufo-Addo retaliated against those who championed Ofori-Atta’s removal, allegedly ensuring that some lost their ministerial roles or were pushed out of their constituencies.
This deepened divisions within the party, with many in the Ashanti bloc believing they were being sidelined by what they referred to as the “Akyem Mafia” — a faction accused of favoring individuals from the Eastern Region over the party’s traditional stronghold.
One of the most controversial decisions was the forced resignation of Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the NPP’s parliamentary leader and a respected MP from Ashanti. His removal was seen as a strategic error, as the replacement from the Central Region failed to deliver results.
The report also recounts the case of Hon. Kweku Kwarteng, a respected Ashanti MP and former Deputy Finance Minister. Despite his loyalty and sacrifices for the party, he was abruptly removed as Finance Committee Chairman, a move that angered his supporters and nearly cost the NPP his seat in the 2024 elections.
In the end, the report paints a picture of a party torn apart by loyalty battles, internal purges, and factional mistrust, with Akufo-Addo’s leadership at the center of the crisis.

Former Vice President, Dr. Bawumia [L] and former President Akufo-Addo
A special committee’s post-election report has revealed that despite Nana Akufo-Addo’s massive infrastructural projects, his government’s failure to prioritize Ashanti Region’s development and poor campaign messaging led to the NPP’s historic defeat in 2024.
The report available to MyNewsGh, found that 88% of respondents acknowledged major projects like the Prempeh I International Airport, multiple hospitals, town roads, and Free SHS, but noted that these did not translate into votes.
“Most of these projects were either commissioned too late or poorly communicated to voters,” some party members lamented.
Additionally, 87% of respondents criticized the unequal distribution of projects, claiming Ashanti Region was sidelined in favor of Greater Accra and the Eastern Region.
“We built five interchanges in Accra and Tamale, but Suame’s interchange hasn’t even reached 5% completion in five years,” a frustrated party supporter noted.
“Kumasi Central Market, Race Course Market, Boankra Inland Port—none were finished in time to make a difference at the polls.”
The deep-seated resentment was summed up by a Senior High School teacher from Kumawu: “We realized Ashanti Region votes to help other regions get development.
“This time, we wanted those regions to vote for their own development. We stayed away from the polls.”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has long relied on the Ashanti Region as its electoral stronghold, but the 2024 elections told a different story.
A special committee report investigating the party’s historic defeat which MyNewsGh has sighted revealed that voter discontent in Ashanti was a major factor, with party supporters feeling ignored and sidelined.
Despite the government’s massive infrastructural projects, such as the Prempeh I International Airport, multiple hospital projects under Agenda 111, and major road developments, these efforts did not translate into votes.
The report found that 88% of respondents acknowledged these achievements, but 84% admitted they were either rushed or poorly communicated, making them seem like last-minute attempts to win votes.
“Some of these projects were commissioned just a week before the elections. It felt like an afterthought,” one respondent noted.
Beyond the timing of projects, the Ashanti Region felt neglected compared to other areas.
87% of respondents pointed to an imbalance in development, arguing that Greater Accra and the Eastern Region received more attention.
“Five interchanges were built in Accra and Tamale, yet the Suame Interchange, promised years ago, is barely 5% complete,” a frustrated party loyalist stated.
Additionally, key projects in Kumasi, such as the Kumasi Central Market Phase 2, Krofrom Market, Boankra Inland Port, and the Komfo Anokye Maternity Block, remained unfinished.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator, Ellen Ama Daaku has criticized the government for failing to address economic hardships while allegedly targeting political opponents.
Daaku speaking on Asaase Radio monitored by MyNewsGh, called out the economic struggles Ghanaians are facing, urging the government to focus on real solutions.
“You are supposed to reset the economy, making sure kenkey is sold at GHC1,” she added.
“Ghanaians are not interested in what happened in the past. That is why they voted for you.
She condemned the reported raid on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s residence and questioned the government’s priorities.
“They voted for you to reset Ghana, not to reset people’s houses by sending Jakpa to go into people’s homes,” she remarked.
Her comments come after a group of about 12 individuals, including five in military uniforms, one in a police uniform, and others in plain clothes, stormed Ofori-Atta’s residence in Cantonments on February 11, 2025, while he was abroad for medical treatment.
His wife and family members were reportedly at home during the incident.

A post-election report investigating the NPP’s crushing defeat in the 2024 elections has pointed fingers at President Akufo-Addo’s leadership style, describing it as unyielding and indifferent to public concerns.
According to the findings sighted by MyNewsGh, 87% of respondents viewed the President as resistant to advice, with some lamenting that while he was approachable in his first term, his second term was marked by stubbornness, vindictiveness, and intransigence—factors that severely harmed the party’s electoral chances.
One of the key grievances was his refusal to reshuffle ministers, particularly Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, his cousin.
When 87 MPs, mostly from the Ashanti Region, called for Ofori-Atta’s removal, the President remained defiant. Many of those MPs were subsequently sidelined, fueling internal divisions.
The forced resignation of Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, a respected MP from Ashanti, further deepened resentment.
The report suggests that his removal in favor of a Central Region representative—who ultimately failed to revive the party’s fortunes—was widely seen as a strategic blunder.
At the constituency level, discontent was rife. In Obuasi West, Hon. Kweku Kwarteng, a deputy finance minister, was pressured to leave his post to chair the Finance Committee, only to be later removed under unclear circumstances. Internal opposition nearly cost him his seat, further highlighting the party’s internal fractures.
The report paints a grim picture of deep-seated factionalism, with some respondents citing an “Akyem Mafia” agenda against Ashanti MPs.
Ultimately, the findings suggest that the NPP’s downfall was self-inflicted, driven by poor leadership choices and unresolved internal conflicts.

Veteran Yoruba movie actor Oluwasegun Ajagbe has shared a disturbing account of his marriage breakdown in the UK. In an interview with Kunleafod TV, Ajagbe disclosed that his ex-wife threw him out of their home after he caught her having an affair with another man.
“My wife threw me out in the UK when I caught her having sex with a man in our home. I cried a lot that day, and I went to meet her sister, but she didn’t interfere in the matter, and that was when I decided to move on,” Ajagbe revealed.
Ajagbe claimed that his ex-wife’s infidelity was not an isolated incident, as one of her friends had previously confessed to him that she had aborted a pregnancy when she heard he was coming to London from Nigeria. This revelation, according to Ajagbe, was a sign of the underlying issues in their marriage.
He also alleged that his ex-wife had threatened to have him arrested by the police when he confronted her about her infidelity. Ajagbe stated that he was devastated by the experience and eventually decided to move on with his life. Despite his efforts to reconcile, Ajagbe claimed that his ex-wife’s family did not intervene to resolve the issue.
The actor also revealed that he still has naked pictures of his ex-wife with another man, which he found in their home. Ajagbe’s shocking revelations have sparked a heated debate about marriage, infidelity, and the challenges of relationships.
Ajagbe’s experience serves as a reminder that relationships can be complex and challenging, and that infidelity can have devastating consequences. His courage in sharing his story may help others who have gone through similar experiences to find solace and healing.

Ellen Ama Daaku, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team, has sharply criticized former President John Mahama over his recent comments describing Ghana’s economy as one that has been “criminally mismanaged.”
In a direct response to Mahama’s interview on The Forum on Asaase Radio, Daaku reminded him of his economic record, particularly as he left office in 2016.
“I think he himself has forgotten that he is in his second term. When he was leaving in 2016, what economy did he leave?
“It is very easy to get information on the economy and do a comparison between that of 2016 and 2024,” Daaku stated, urging Mahama to reflect on the state of affairs he handed over.
She continued to highlight the challenges the nation faced under Mahama’s leadership, saying, “He [Mahama] is lucky.
“He didn’t have any international crisis or pandemic, but what did he leave us? He left us with dumsor.”
Daaku underscored the power crisis that plagued the country in 2016, accusing the former president’s administration of neglecting the sector.
“The power sector was terrible. We had Nana Addo Dankwa’s government for eight years that stabilized it. But now, in 2025, our lights are still off,” she added, a clear critique of Mahama’s handling of the energy sector.

Sokode traditional authorities in the Ho Municipality have called to quickly investigate a violent clash between some students of the Sokode Senior High Technical School and some residents.
They also want a swift publishing of findings of the investigations to ensure the incident does not affect the academic calendar of the school which was indefinitely closed down on Sunday by the Volta Regional Security Council.
This was after a series of engagements with school authorities and community leaders.
“We are pleading with the police and other security bodies and ensure the school is opened in earnest for academic activities to resume”, said the Dutor of Sokode Traditional Area, Togbe Awee Japhet Amoako at a press encounter in Sokode Etoe.
He assured of the community’s readiness to provide the needed assistance to investigate the incidents and bring perpetrators to book.
He condemned the decision by some natives to engage in such violent clashes with students and emphasised the need for the community to identify the school as its property and protect it as such.
“We are not in support of the unfortunate incident. If students misbehave, you should report to the authorities for them to be punished, not to take things into your hands and engage in such violent acts”, he said.
The Secretary to the Council of Gborgame Chiefs, Godwin Ofori Avorsi, who equally condemned the incident denied reports in a section of the media that the youth were not directed by the Chiefs to mobilize and attack the students.
Addressing the media in Ho, he said, “Our attention is being drawn to all the flood rumours that are making the news headlines that this violence was under the instruction of the traditional leaders of Sokode Gborgame. We hereby refuse any claims or false rumours.”
He explained that the youth, who were dressed in war costumes chanting war songs and wielding weapons, had visited the campus on Sunday morning to report some students who engaged in a fight with some community members on Saturday night.
“The youth of Sokode Gborgame, who decided to match to the school and report the issue and inquire from the headmaster “Why all this?”. Upon the youth reaching the school premises, the youth were again attacked by the students with stones and all kinds of weapons”, he explained.
Background
According to an eyewitness account, the clash was triggered by a student being beaten by town folks after he was reported by a colleague, who he had a misunderstanding with.
This led to a clash between the students and town folks on Friday, 21st February 2025, at a popular food joint in the vicinity of the school, which spanned between 10 pm and 1 am on Saturday.
On Saturday, 22nd February 2025, there was another clash with community members at the Manacura Bar, a recreational centre.
A timely intervention by a joint military and police team foiled a bloody clash when town folks dressed in war costumes besieged the campus on the morning of Sunday 22nd February 2025.
There was a seeming stone war between the students and the community folks, with a journalist, Evand Aklangla being caught up in the heat of the clash, sustaining various degrees of injuries on the wrist, back and head.
The violent incident destroyed the properties of the school, staff, community members, and the Manacura Bar.
Indefinite closure of school
For fear of reprisal, and to protect life and property, the school was indefinitely closed down to ease tension, after a series of meetings between the Volta Regional Security Council, school authorities and community leaders.
This was announced by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, who said the Regional Security Council took such a decision, to allow time to restore a cordial relationship between the students and community, to restore peace and unity.
“We want the environment for teaching and learning to be peaceful for both the students and the teachers. We want a situation where the community will see the school as their property so that they will not come and cause any damage. Then the students are also seen as their children so that they can both coexist”, he said.

As Ukraine marks three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion, the global landscape has shifted significantly.
The war has had profound humanitarian, economic, and geopolitical consequences, reaching far beyond Europe to Africa, including Ghana.
In this exclusive interview, JoyNews sat down with the Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine in Ghana, Ivan Lukachuk, to discuss Ukraine’s resilience, the war’s impact on Africa, and the future of Ukraine-Ghana relations.
JoyNews: As Ukraine marks the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, can you reflect on the country’s resilience and key achievements during this period?
Ivan Lukachuk: Thank you for this opportunity. Despite Russia’s expectations of a swift takeover, Ukraine has stood firm. We have reclaimed key territories, including parts of Kharkiv and Kherson, and secured continuous military, economic, and humanitarian support from our allies. Beyond the battlefield, Ukraine has reinforced its diplomatic ties with NATO, the EU, and global partners while ensuring economic stability by diversifying trade routes and sustaining agricultural exports. Above all, this war has strengthened our national identity and unity.
JoyNews: How has the war affected Africa, particularly Ghana, in terms of economic and geopolitical shifts?
Ivan Lukachuk: The impact has been significant. Russia’s blockade of Ukrainian seaports disrupted global grain supplies, leading to food price hikes and inflation across Africa, including Ghana. Trade between Ukraine and Ghana declined drastically from $300.06 million in 2021 to $34 million in 2023. However, alternative trade routes have helped stabilize the situation, and trade has started recovering. Geopolitically, Russia has attempted to influence African nations through disinformation and coercion, making it crucial for countries like Ghana to navigate these pressures wisely.
JoyNews: Russia has been accused of spreading misinformation globally, including in Africa. What are some of the most persistent false narratives you’ve encountered here?
Ivan Lukachuk: Russia has used misinformation to manipulate public perception. Some of the most common falsehoods include portraying the USSR as solely Russian, exaggerating Russia’s global influence, and misrepresenting its economic strength. Another misleading claim is that NATO’s expansion threatens Russia—when in reality, it is Russia’s aggression that has forced nations to seek stronger security alliances. Russia also tries to frame itself as an ally of the Global South while downplaying its own colonial past.
JoyNews: How is Ukraine countering these disinformation campaigns in Africa?
Ivan Lukachuk: We are taking several steps. First, Ukraine is expanding its diplomatic presence in Africa, including opening an embassy in Accra. We are also collaborating with African media outlets to ensure factual reporting and engaging directly with civil society to strengthen media literacy. Additionally, we work with African governments to debunk Russian propaganda and ensure a transparent flow of information.
JoyNews: Ukraine has proposed a 10-point peace plan. Can you explain its key aspects and why you believe this is the best path forward?
Ivan Lukachuk: Our Peace Formula is rooted in international law and includes the withdrawal of Russian forces from all occupied territories, holding Russia accountable for war crimes, and ensuring food and energy security. We must prevent Russia from using ceasefires to regroup for further aggression. This plan aligns with the UN Charter and global principles of justice, ensuring a just and lasting peace rather than a temporary halt to hostilities.
JoyNews: Some African leaders have called for dialogue and neutrality. What is Ukraine’s response to those advocating negotiations without Russia’s withdrawal?
Ivan Lukachuk: We appreciate Africa’s desire for peace, but any settlement that allows Russia to retain occupied Ukrainian territories legitimizes aggression and sets a dangerous precedent. This is not just about Ukraine—it’s about upholding the sovereignty of all nations, including those in Africa. We urge African leaders to recognize that neutrality, in this case, can be exploited by Russia as a sign of tacit support.
JoyNews: How can countries like Ghana contribute to a just and lasting peace for Ukraine?
Ivan Lukachuk: Ghana has been a strong supporter of Ukraine at the UN and in global forums. Ghana’s participation in the Global Peace Summit and its endorsement of Ukraine’s Peace Formula demonstrate its commitment to global stability. Additionally, Ghana can help counter Russian disinformation by promoting accurate reporting and advocating for international law. Strengthening diplomatic and trade ties with Ukraine will also foster long-term cooperation.
JoyNews: Looking ahead, how do you see the future of Ukraine-Ghana relations beyond the war?
Ivan Lukachuk: Our relationship has grown significantly, especially since 2022. The opening of our embassy in Ghana symbolizes our commitment to deeper engagement. We see strong potential for cooperation in trade, agriculture, technology, and education. Strengthening economic and cultural exchanges will be key to building a lasting partnership.
JoyNews: As Ukraine’s Ambassador to Ghana, what has been the most challenging and rewarding aspect of representing your country during this critical time?
Ivan Lukachuk: The greatest challenge has been countering Russian disinformation and explaining to Ghanaians why this war matters globally. However, the most rewarding aspect has been witnessing the solidarity of the Ghanaian people. Their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and their interest in strengthening ties with us gives me hope for the future.
JoyNews: Finally, what message would you like Ghanaians and the world to remember on this third anniversary of the invasion?
Ivan Lukachuk: Ukraine’s fight is not just about defending our territory; it is about defending democracy, sovereignty, and the rule of law—values that resonate with Ghanaians and all freedom-loving nations. We must not allow aggression to be normalised. Standing with Ukraine means standing for a world where might does not make a right. We deeply appreciate Ghana’s support and look forward to strengthening our partnership in the years to come.

Former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been appointed as Feyenoord’s new head coach.
The 41-year-old, who retired from playing in 2019, has left fellow Dutch side Heerenveen to take charge of the club he had two spells at as a player, making 122 appearances for them and scoring 46 goals.
Van Persie was also an assistant coach at Feyenoord under Dick Advocaat and worked with their youth teams before taking charge of Heerenveen in May last year.
The former Netherlands international leaves the club ninth in the Eredivisie after winning seven of his 23 games in charge.
Van Persie has signed a contract until 2027 and will be assisted by Rene Hake, who was previously part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff at Manchester United.
“Everyone knows how special my bond with Feyenoord is,” he said.
“I am enormously looking forward, together with a strong staff, to working with the player group.”
Feyenoord are third in table and 11 points behind leaders Ajax. They dismissed Dane Brian Priske last week after a run of one win in six league games.
Priske had succeeded Arne Slot last summer after the Dutchman left to join Liverpool.
Van Persie spent eight years at Arsenal from 2004 and helped them to win the FA Cup before joining Manchester United in 2012 where he won the Premier League in his first season at the club.
‘We are delighted that with Robin van Persie we can appoint a true club icon as the new coach of Feyenoord,” said general manager Dennis te Kloese.
“Robin knows the club incredibly well and knows exactly what is needed to achieve results.”

Ambassador Ivan Lukachuk: Ukraine’s fight is not just about defending our territory; it is about defending democracy, sovereignty, and the rule of law—values that resonate with Ghanaians and all freedom-loving nations. We must not allow aggression to be normalised. Standing with Ukraine means standing for a world where might does not make a right. We deeply appreciate Ghana’s support and look forward to strengthening our partnership in the years to come.

Member of Parliament for Assin South, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour
The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, has alleged growing disappointment among religious leaders in Ghana with the John Dramani Mahama administration.
According to the MP, who previously served as Deputy Minister of Education, this discontent arises from President Mahama’s decision not to nominate a clergy member as a representative to the newly constituted Council of State.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen program, Reverend Ntim Fordjour described the President’s decision as a departure from the precedent set by his predecessors, including Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor, John Evans Atta Mills, and Nana Akufo-Addo.
“Senior members of the clergy who were instrumental in President Mahama’s election are deeply pained. Some might say it’s early in his term and too soon to judge him on promises made to the clergy; however, they are genuinely disappointed. During President Mills’ era, he nominated a Christian leader from the Christian Council, Reverend Dr Nii Amo Darko, to serve on the Council of State. Similarly, President Akufo-Addo nominated Reverend Justice Akrofi during his tenure. With all the support the clergy provided—holding meetings and interceding on his behalf—this was a promise Mahama made to them. It’s not as if the clergy are actively pushing for it, but they had hoped he would honor his word by nominating at least one representative from the Christian Council to the Council of State, giving them a voice on the highest constitutional body tasked with advising the President on critical national matters,” he stated.
Ghana’s Council of State, established under Articles 89 to 92 of the 1992 Constitution, serves as a constitutional advisory body to counsel the President on national issues. On February 18, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama swore in the 31 members of the 9th Council of State. The Council comprises 16 elected representatives from Ghana’s 16 regions, four ex-officio members, and 11 representatives nominated by the President.
Some members of the clergy who have previously served on the Council of State include Rev Prof Asante Antwi, who was nominated by President Kufuor, Rev Dr Nii Amo Darko, who was nominated by President Mills, and Bishop Justice Akrofi, who was nominated by President Akufo-Addo.
The Christian Council of Ghana and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference recently criticized the Mahama government for excluding them from the National Education Forum held in Ho.
The President subsequently acknowledged this as an oversight, apologized to the religious leaders, and assured them of his administration’s commitment to inclusivity in national discussions on education.
