I’ll fulfill all campaign promises
The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency, Sammi Awuku, has reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling all promises made to his constituents, despite the New Patriotic Party, losing the 2024 elections.
As part of his efforts to support local communities, Mr. Awuku has been facilitating a monthly trade initiative by providing free transportation for farmers to bring their produce from villages to the Ofie Market Square at the Amanokrom Durbar grounds.
Additionally, he has partnered with rural banks to offer soft loans to farmers and market women to help them expand their businesses.
In an interview with the media after the successful launch of the initiative, Mr. Awuku pledged to personally cover 25 percent of the 30 percent interest on the soft loans provided to the farmers and traders.
Looking ahead, Mr. Awuku plans to launch a Teacher’s and Nurse’s Fund by mid-year, following productive discussions with the Education and Health Directorates. He is optimistic that this fund, which will provide seed capital for teachers and nurses, will encourage them to accept postings and remain in remote areas within the Constituency, thereby improving access to education and healthcare services.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the launch of Ofie Market at Amanokrom, Sammy Awuku pledged not to touch a penny of his MP’s common fund but to use it judiciously to help lift them from the shackles of poverty into prosperity.
“I told them that by the middle of the year, we will set up this fund so that they will also be able to assess some of the credit. That one is a seed fund given to the teachers and the health professionals.
“As an MP I have made a firm commitment that anything meant for the constituency as part of their common fund, I will not take a cedi for what is meant for them. I will also help them from the shackles of poverty to prosperity,” he stated.

Various associations under the National Health Students Association of Ghana have expressed profound disappointment and disillusionment with the 2022 administration’s blatant attempts to manipulate the association’s leadership. The administration’s actions, deemed utterly unacceptable, involved exploiting their positions to install their preferred candidates, thereby undermining the democratic process.
In a statement released by the presidents of the various associations under NAHSAG, they unequivocally dissociated themselves from the purportedly illegal election, affirming Ernest as the legitimate and rightful president of the association. They urged their members to rally behind him, citing their satisfaction with his exemplary leadership and commendable achievements.
The associations also drew attention to a court ruling that explicitly restrained the 2022 executives from conducting any elections, rendering their actions null and void. Despite the overwhelming support of health students for the current administration, the 2022 executives orchestrated an election with a paltry 20 students, brazenly attempting to impose their preferred candidates on the student body. Notably, all the candidates ran unopposed.
The National Associations, including the Federation of Ghana Medical Laboratory Students Association, Physician Assistants Students Association,University Nursing Students Association of Ghana,Federation of Ghana Medical Imaging Students Association,Ghana Association of Health Training Institutions,Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association Pharmaceutical Sciences Federation Ghana, among others, have unequivocally condemned the election, labeling it a flagrant disregard for democratic principles. They have called upon all members to rally behind the 2024/25 administration, led by Obama(Ernest), in a show of solidarity and support for legitimate leadership.

Ghana’s urgent quest to battle childhood cancer
1,200 children under 15 diagnosed of cancer annually, according to the Ghana Health Service
GhanaWeb Feature by Joycelyn Kyei Baffuor
World Childhood Cancer Day, observed annually on February 15, serves as a global reminder of the struggles faced by children diagnosed with cancer and the stark disparities in survival rates between high- and low-income countries.
This year’s observance underscored the persistent challenges in Ghana, where limited access to care and financial barriers continue to claim young lives.
Childhood cancer remains a silent crisis, with approximately 400,000 new cases diagnosed globally each year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
While survival rates in high-income countries exceed 80%, in low-resource settings like Ghana, they plummet below 30% due to late diagnoses, inadequate treatment options, and crippling costs.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) identifies cancer as a critical public health challenge, with many cases detected at advanced stages, complicating treatment outcomes.
At this year’s World Cancer Day commemoration in Accra, Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Acting Director General of the GHS, pointed out alarming statistics.
“In 2022, Ghana recorded 27,385 new cancer cases and 17,944 deaths. Prostate and liver cancers were leading causes of mortality, with liver cancer claiming 90% of those diagnosed. Childhood cancer remains devastating, with an estimated 1,200 children under 15 diagnosed annually.
“Leukemia, lymphoma, and retinoblastoma are common, yet treatment costs push care out of reach for families, leading to late diagnoses and poor survival rates,” he stated.
Financial barriers remain a major obstacle. Although Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) now partially covers childhood cancer treatment, families still shoulder significant expenses for chemotherapy, surgeries, and post-care.
Additional burdens like transportation and lost income due to caregiving further strain households.
The tragic case of 10-year-old Lisa Laryea, who lost her battle with leukemia on December 19, 2023, epitomized these systemic gaps.
Her family struggled to secure specialized care until philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama funded her $110,000 treatment in South Africa.
While her story galvanized national attention, her death underscored a harsh reality: countless Ghanaian children face similar fates without access to lifesaving resources.
To improve outcomes, advocates urge expanded NHIS coverage, increased government investment in pediatric oncology, and stronger public-private partnerships to subsidize care.
Although World Childhood Cancer Day has passed, its urgent call to action endures. Without sustained efforts to dismantle financial and systemic barriers, Ghana’s children will continue to lose their lives to a disease that is increasingly treatable, but only for those who can afford it.

Chelsea target Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo as key addition to Maresca’s project
Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo
Former Manchester United scout, Mick Brown, claims Chelsea have identified Bournemouth forward, Antoine Semenyo, as a key target in their plans under new manager, Enzo Maresca.
Brown, who previously had doubts about Semenyo’s ability to succeed in the Premier League, now acknowledges the Ghanaian’s remarkable progress this season.
“I always had doubts about his ability at Premier League level, but he is one of the most improved players in the country this season. His strength, running power, shooting, and movement have come to light at Bournemouth. It doesn’t shock me to hear Chelsea are interested in him,” Brown said.
Since joining Bournemouth from Bristol City in January 2023, Semenyo has played a vital role in the Cherries’ campaign, drawing attention from top clubs.
Chelsea are reportedly leading the race for his signature as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
Bournemouth are expected to fight to keep their in-form forward, but a major offer from Chelsea could prove difficult to resist.
If the move materialises, it would mark a significant step in Semenyo’s career and provide Chelsea with the attacking dynamism they are seeking.

RSF escalates attacks on Sudan’s famine-stricken Zamzam refugee camp
The RSF has been besieging the area for months, claiming that the camp is a base for the Joint Force
The Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has stepped up its attacks on the Zamzam refugee camp near el-Fasher, capital of the North Darfur state.
On Friday, residents and medics said the RSF attacked the camp, which it surrounded three times within a week.
At least seven people were killed in the camp this week, Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF, said, adding that medics were unable to perform surgeries in Zamzam.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the United Nations secretary-general, said the renewed fighting included the use of heavy weapons and urged the warring parties to stop the violence.
The RSF is said to be trying to tighten its grip on its Darfur stronghold, losing ground to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in the capital, Khartoum.
‘They terrorise’
Nearly 22 months since the war erupted in Sudan between the RSF and the SAF, the paramilitary group still controls most of Darfur in Sudan’s west and much of the neighbouring Kordofan region.
The army controls Sudan’s north and east and has recently made crucial gains in Khartoum.
Zamzam houses 500,000 people displaced by fighting in this and past wars in Darfur, while nearby el-Fasher is home to 1.8 million people and is the last significant holdout against the RSF across Darfur.
The RSF has been besieging the area for months, claiming that the camp is a base for the Joint Forces, former rebel groups now fighting alongside the army.
Some camp residents have burrowed holes into the ground for shelter and protection, fearing constant attacks, according to one resident and a video shared by activists.
“Inside the neighbourhoods, they terrorise, steal, and kill … people hide in these holes when they are firing and when they are raiding, because there is nowhere else to flee,” a resident of the camp told the Reuters news agency.
The top UN humanitarian official in Sudan, Clementine Nkweta-Salami, said on Thursday she was “shocked by the attacks on Zamzam IDP camp and the blockages of escape routes”.
Aid restrictions
The RSF has also restricted aid efforts to the camp, according to the UN and aid workers.
In August, a UN-backed report found that it is plausible that parts of North Darfur – especially the Zamzam camp – are experiencing “the worst form of hunger”, known as IPC Phase 5.
IPC Phase 5 is a step in an internationally recognised Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) which indicates that at least one in five people or households severely lack food and face starvation and destitution, which would ultimately lead to critical levels of acute malnutrition and death.
After the latest violence, MSF said it had to stop a nutrition programme for 6,000 malnourished children.
Earlier this month, the group had announced that the proportion of the camp’s children who were malnourished had risen to 34 percent, a similar level to the nearby town of Tawila, to which many have fled from RSF attacks.
Speaking on Friday at a high-level humanitarian conference in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the situation in Sudan as a catastrophe on a “staggering scale and brutality”.
“We must do more – and do more now – to help the people of Sudan out of this nightmare,” he said, calling on world leaders to use their influence for peace and boost humanitarian aid efforts before the holy month of Ramadan, which begins in about 10 days.

Ofori-Atta has grounds to sue OSP over “fugitive” tag – Kwame Adofo
A private legal practitioner Kwame Adofo has urged former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to take legal action against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for what he describes as an unlawful declaration of him as a “fugitive from justice.”
Mr Adofo made these remarks during a discussion on Asaase Radio’s current affairs program, The Forum, on Saturday, February 15.
He criticized the OSP’s handling of high-profile cases, accusing the Special Prosecutor of overstepping his legal authority.
He argued that the OSP has no legal basis to declare someone a fugitive, especially when no formal charges have been filed against the individual.
“I cannot see what gives the OSP the power to declare somebody a fugitive from justice. This is wrong and should never have been done. Ken Ofori-Atta has not been charged with any offense, yet he has been publicly maligned. This is a serious ground for legal action,” Adofo stated.
He added, “I think Ken Ofori-Atta’s lawyers should consider suing the Special Prosecutor personally.”
Adofo also pointed to the OSP’s track record, citing the Cecilia Dapaah investigation, later dismissed by the courts, as evidence of incompetence. He argued that the Special Prosecutor’s approach to investigations is flawed and damages the institution’s credibility.
“What serious investigator announces an investigation before even starting? He did the same thing with the NPA case. When you do that, people hide evidence and obstruct investigations. This clearly shows incompetence, and he needs to be removed,” Adofo asserted.
He further questioned the Special Prosecutor’s performance since taking office in 2021, asking, “We are in 2025—can he account for his stewardship? Has he secured a single conviction in four years?”
Adofo called on the government to reevaluate the leadership of the OSP, stating that the current Special Prosecutor has failed to deliver on his mandate and should either resign or be removed from office.
“The OSP’s credibility is at stake, and the government must act to restore public trust in the institution,” he concluded.

‘No nation can develop without mathematics’
Professor Ibrahim Yakubu Seini, Dean of the Department of Physical Sciences at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala has said no nation can develop without mathematics.
He explained that mathematics played a critical role in unlocking the potential in students and preparing them for opportunities for the future.
Professor Seini said this while delivering the 17th professorial inaugural lecture in fulfilment of his appointment as a Professor of Applied Mathematics in Tamale.
He said mathematics drove innovation and was key to addressing global challenges such as climate change, healthcare, and cyber security, among others.
“Mathematics opens numerous opportunities to students in virtually all fields of studies, its influence has expanded to areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning and climate science” he added.
The lecture was delivered under the theme “Beyond Computations: Mathematics is Key to National Development” and was attended by various stakeholders in academia, including some traditional authorities from the Northern Region.

Stop attacking Apostle Oduro; he is the victim – Bullgod amidst social media backlash
Lawrence Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bullgod
Artiste manager Bullgod has expressed discontent over the criticism Apostle Solomon Oduro has faced after publicly revealing the news of his divorce from Rev. Charlotte Oduro.
In a discussion on United Showbiz on February 16, 2025, Bullgod urged netizens to cut Apostle Solomon Oduro some slack, emphasising that he particularly endured suffering during the marriage.
Bullgod insisted that the pastor should be seen as the victim, not Charlotte Oduro, pointing to videos circulating on social media in which Charlotte confessed to abusing her ex-husband.
“I don’t see any reason why a man of God like that would lie to the public… With all seriousness, what she did wasn’t right. For her to consistently go out there and wash their dirty linen in public… If the man had been the one to beat her, or done all that the woman did, Ghanaians would have dragged him,” he said.
Bullgod further explained that Apostle Solomon Oduro’s decision to publicly announce the divorce was not to tarnish Charlotte Oduro’s reputation, but rather a result of a lack of communication between the couple.
“If there had been some understanding between them, I think they would have issued a joint press statement. But because something was wrong, that is why he said that alone,” he added.
Bullgod also stated that if he had been in Apostle Solomon Oduro’s shoes, he would have retaliated to some of the physical confrontations from his wife.
“If I were the one she hit in the balls, I would have hit her back. If a woman can beat a man, then we can also conclude that a man can beat a woman. We can’t sit here while a man is being bullied. Hitting him doesn’t pain me as much as tarnishing his image in public,” he stated.

Dr. Afua Asabea Asare shares her story
Former CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Dr. Afua Asabea Asare
In Ghanaian society, many people frown upon both men and women wearing dreadlocks for several reasons.
From claiming it is fetish to calling it dirty, these preconceived notions often blind people from seeing the bigger picture or appreciating the beauty of the hairstyle.
People with locs are sometimes stigmatised in society, whether in school, the office, or elsewhere.
One such person who has faced this is Dr. Afua Asabea Asare, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA).
In an interview with YouTuber Wode Maya, Dr Afua Asare recounted how she lost her job years ago because of her dreadlocks.
According to her, although the company [which she did not mention] did not explicitly state that her hairstyle was the reason for her dismissal, she was effectively frustrated out.
Dr Asabea Asare noted that she didn’t see anything wrong with wearing dreadlocks, as many girls in the office also wore wigs.
She explained that the reason for keeping her locs, which are 5 feet 4 inches long, is because she made a “covenant” with God in a time of need.
She said when God delivered, she felt she had to leave her hair untouched by a razor.
Clad in white with her 20-year-old natural hair that sweeps the floor, she told Wode Maya, “I don’t pay anybody to do anything. I can take care of it myself…I had a contract with God. I asked him to do something for me. If he did it, I wasn’t going to cut my hair for 20 years, and he did it, so I decided to keep my hair for 20 years, and it is now almost 20 years.”
She addded, “It wasn’t common when I was doing this. I was in corporate, and I almost lost my job, and I lost my job, and I think it was partly due to this…they couldn’t say that it was because of your hair, but they found a way of frustrating me out of the place because then, I didn’t fit in because of this kind of hair, and that is why I even intended to keep it.”
Dr. Afua Asabea Asare added, “I don’t care about anyone wearing their wigs, and if I want to wear mine too and it is my hair, I will fight it, and so I fought it.”

Sulemana scored an incredible goal, finding the back of the net for the first time in the ongoing Premier League season.
Speaking after the game, Southampton head coach Ivan Jurić commended the performance of the former Stade Rennais winger, describing him as a great player with great quality.
“He’s a great guy with great quality. I think he can do really well. Today he scored a great goal; he was dangerous throughout the match, and I’m very happy with him,” he said.
Meanwhile, fellow countryman Antoine Semenyo assisted Marcus Tavernier’s goal.

DR Congo’s M23 rebels enter centre of strategic city Bukavu
Residents walk next to a vehicle with M23 fighters on in Bukavu
Rwandan-backed M23 rebels have entered Bukavu, the second-largest city in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), after advancing rapidly in the country.
A local official, a security source, and five witnesses reported seeing the rebels there on Sunday, while a spokesperson for the militia told the Reuters news agency: “We are there.”
The armed group had been advancing on the capital of South Kivu province since seizing the city of Goma in late January. The fall of Bukavu, if confirmed, would represent the most significant expansion of territory under the M23’s control since the latest armed rebellion started in 2022.
M23 spokesperson Willy Ngoma said in a telephone message that the group was in the city.
The Congolese army did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“I’m at home, and I can see with my own eyes the M23 entering our town,” a local official said, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons.
Claude Bisimwa, a Bukavu resident, was transporting the bodies of two slain men who were hit by bullets “inside … their house”.
“They were in their room. We are taking their bodies to the morgue. These were not stray bullets – the soldier did this out of his own will,” Bisimwa told Al Jazeera.
As panic swept through the city, there were reports of widespread looting, including at a World Food Programme depot, while thousands of civilians fled.
A day earlier, the rebels took control of Kavumu airport serving Bukavu. They reportedly faced minimal resistance as they advanced through the town.
The airport was the last significant military barrier for the rebel forces before reaching Bukavu, a city of more than one million people.
The development comes as the African Union (AU) summit continues in Ethiopia. The conflict in the DRC has been a key topic of discussion at the annual two-day meeting.
Addressing the summit, United Nations chief Antonio Guterres said a “regional escalation must be avoided at all costs” and the DRC’s “territorial integrity” must be preserved.
“The entrance of M23 and the Rwandan Defence Force into Bukavu is a violation of DRC’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a breach of the UN Charter,” a UK Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement.
“The UK calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, withdrawal of all RDF from Congolese territory and a return to dialogue through African-led peace processes. There can be no military solution,” the spokesperson added.
The AU has been criticised for its timid approach, and observers have demanded more decisive action towards the conflict.
Rwanda denies giving military support to M23 but has accused hardline Hutu groups in DRC of threatening its security. A report by UN experts said last year Kigali maintained about 4,000 soldiers in the DRC and had de facto control of the rebel group.

Relationships, in their myriad forms, are the cornerstones of human existence. They provide us with love, support, and a sense of belonging. However, like any aspect of life, relationships are susceptible to challenges and pitfalls. Over time, certain destructive patterns have emerged, often referred to as the “seven deadly sins” of relationships.
Otumfuo urges government to go after ‘big fishes’ in galamsey fight
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on the government to go beyond targeting small-scale miners and pursue the key financiers and powerful figures behind illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
Otumfuo urged the government should go after the ‘big fishes’ in the galamsey business and prosecute them, instead of focusing only on the youth involved in the illegal act.
The Minister’s visit was part of efforts to seek Otumfuo’s support and guidance for the government’s planned reforms in the mining and forestry sectors. He commended the Asantehene for his exemplary leadership, particularly in ensuring litigation-free land administration in the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Buah lamented the devastating impact of galamsey, revealing that 44 out of the country’s 288 forest reserves had been severely degraded due to illegal mining. He also highlighted the alarming deterioration of major water bodies, with turbidity levels rising from 5,000 NTU to 12,000 NTU.
Outlining some immediate measures taken by the government, the Minister mentioned the establishment of an 18-member working committee to review the licensing regime, reclassify mining categories, and overhaul the Community Mining Schemes.
“We are grateful for Otumfuo’s advice and support for the reset agenda that we have embarked on. We’ve laid out a plan to deal with key initiatives, and it started with the inauguration of the 18-member working committee. We are also reclassifying the mining categories and introducing medium-scale mining,” Mr. Buah stated.
The Asantehene acknowledged the efforts being made but urged the Minister to address the root causes of illegal mining by providing alternative livelihood programmes for youth in mining communities. He emphasised that if young people had meaningful and sustainable sources of income, they would be less likely to engage in destructive mining activities.
Otumfuo further advised the Lands Ministry to curb the indiscriminate sale of public lands to politically exposed persons, stressing that such practices must not continue under the Minister’s tenure.
He also commended the government for its afforestation drive and pledged his full support for the initiative, particularly the Tree of Life project, describing it as laudable.

Anlos support Dr Asiama’s BoG Governor nomination
By Ewoenam Kpodo
Aflao (VR), Feb 16, GNA – The Anlo Dukor Council has welcomed Dr Johnson Asiama’s appointment as Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), commending President John Mahama’s commitment to upholding competence and experience in key national appointments.
Dr Asiama’s appointment as the new BoG Governor, pending approval by the Council of State, has faced some opposition from the New Patriotic Party Minority in Parliament over charges against his involvement in the collapse of Unibank and UT Bank, charges the office of the Attorney-General recently withdrew.
A press release signed by Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, the Awadada of Anlo on behalf of Togbi Sri III, the Awoamefia of Anlo, said the appointment and exoneration of Dr Asiama were in place as it saw the attacks and allegations that had trailed him over the years as “politically motivated and baseless.”
“Dr Asiama’s track record as a seasoned economist and central banking expert makes him the ideal choice to lead the BoG at this crucial moment. His wealth of experience, particularly in monetary policy formulation and financial sector stability is a valuable asset that will guide Ghana’s economic recovery and ensure a resilient financial system…”
The Anlo Dukor Council stands in full support of Dr Asiama as he embarks on his mandate to steer the BoG towards economic stability and growth.”
The release expressed the Council’s confidence in the former second Deputy BoG Governor, saying he would work to restore confidence in the financial system, promote sound monetary policies and ensure the overall economic wellbeing of the nation.
“Once again, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency President John Mahama for recognising and reaffirming Dr Asiama’s expertise and leadership capabilities. We are confident that under his stewardship, the Bank will regain its strength and fulfill its mandate to the people of Ghana,” it added.

Daughter of a Murderer Comment: Have you heard that Rawlings killed someone before?
National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has quashed claims that the founder of the party, the late Jerry John Rawlings, was a killer.
According to him, members of the New Patriotic Party who label Rawlings as a murderer because of the June 4th Revolution, where people lost their lives, are detached from history.
He stated that the NPP, led by Kotoka and Afrifa, were the first to carry out a coup d’état after Ghana gained independence.
Asiedu Nketiah stated on Radio Gold, monitored by GhanaWeb, that he was taken aback when the Member of Parliament of Klottey Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, was called the daughter of a murderer in Parliament.
In his view, the NPP should rather be labeled murderers if embarking on a coup qualifies one to be a murderer.
“I was shocked when I heard this daughter of a murderer comment… these new NPP members do not know their history. They are completely detached from their history and that is why such a comment will come out from the mouth of an NPP MP that someone is the daughter of a murderer. A murderer means to kill someone, but have you heard that Rawlings has killed someone before?” he quizzed.
He added, “What they say is he carried out a coup or a revolution and people died, so because he was the leader, he murdered people. But my brother… who did the first coup d’état in Ghana after independence? It is the grandfathers of these NPP members… so, if you do a coup and you are labeled a murderer, then you are the murderers.”
On February 4, 2025, the daughter of the late former president, Jerry John Rawlings, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, who is also the MP of Klottey Korle, attempted to catch the eye of the Speaker of Parliament in order to make a contribution.
However, she was not given that chance since the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, was also speaking on the floor of the House.
As the Minority Leader spoke, other MPs interrupted, with the chamber descending further into disorder.
In a disturbing moment that exposed what some have described as the toxic political culture in Parliament, a voice from the Minority side was heard hurling a deeply derogatory remark at Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.
The voice referred to her as the “daughter of a murderer,” while ordering her to sit down.
Another unknown MP, also believed to be on the Minority side, followed up, claiming, “But there is evidence that her father killed people.”
The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, then calmed the MPs down before continuing his contribution on the floor.

Ghana targets plant construction by 2028
Ghana is working towards the construction of her first nuclear power plant by 2028.
The country had initially targeted to construct and operate her first nuclear power plant by 2030, per the original roadmap.
Dr Stephen Yamoah, the Executive Director of Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG) told journalists in Accra on Friday, that although the country was not departing from the roadmap developed in 2015, the 2030 operationalisation target “is not technically feasible.”
He said the selection of a vendor and financing arrangements were key to determining the commencement of construction of the nuclear power plant.
“As a technical organisation, we consider that we can review the roadmap now. However, the longer it takes us to have our agreement with the vendor and the financing, the further away it would go,” Dr Yamoah said.
“I am certain that within the next three or four years, we should begin to start construction,” he added.
Ghana is racing to add nuclear power to her energy mix to support industrialisation and boost socio-economic development.
The country has already settled on a preferred site at Nsuban in the Western Region and a backup site at Obotan in the Central Region.
The NPG is currently undertaking further studies and evaluation of the selected sites to secure Site Approval License from the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, the regulator.
The NPG on Friday welcomed a team of experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the country to review Ghana’s site selection process as part of the Nuclear Power Programme.
The five-member Site and External Events Design Review Service (SEED) Review Mission will among others assess Ghana’s conformity to national regulations for siting and design of nuclear installations per the IAEA Safety Standards.
Mr Kazuyuki Nagasawa, the Leader of the IAEA’s SEED Review Team, said the mission would provide a summary report on the review of Ghana’s site selection process within next week.
He said the Final Mission Report would be provided within two months and asked the Ghanaian team to cooperate with the Mission to make the exercise successful.
Professor Samuel B. Dampare, the Director-General of GAEC, told the review team that Ghana had fulfilled all obligations required for Phase 1 of the Nuclear Power Programme, including the 19 infrastructure issues, the establishment of relevant institutions, and the declaration of the Government’s commitment.
On the second Phase of the Programme, he said the selection of the preferred site was a key milestone, adding that the activity strictly followed the IAEA Safety Standards.
“The addition of nuclear power to our energy mix represents a great transformative opportunity for our diversification efforts to ensure energy security, industrial expansion, and drive environmental sustainability,” he said.

Kofi Adams calls for ‘reset’ in Ghana sports development
Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams
The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has emphasised the need for a nationwide commitment to sports development, stating that the government must take all necessary steps to support its growth.
Speaking after a meeting with Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) and the club’s supporters’ union on Friday, 14 February, Adams acknowledged the passion Ghanaians have for sports and the need for meaningful progress.
“It’s been a fruitful journey. A lot has been learned from the engagement with Asante Kotoko IMC and the supporters’ union from the issues they raised. It tells you that they still love their sport, and all they yearn for is for it to grow. Anything and everything that must be done by the government to help the growth of our sports must be done,” he told the media.
The minister also stressed the need for a broader restructuring of Ghana’s sports sector, calling for a fundamental shift in approach.
“We have reached a point where all of us, including the GFA, must realise that there is a need for a reset in everything, which includes our sports and our football. That is what I gathered from my engagement with Asante Kotoko IMC and the supporters,” Adams added.
His comments come at a time when discussions on improving Ghana’s football and sports landscape have intensified, with various stakeholders calling for policy changes to strengthen the sector.

Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy Plan Seeks to Tackle Unemployment, Spark Growth
President John Mahama unveiled a sweeping proposal to transition Ghana into a 24-hour economy during his January 7 inauguration speech, framing it as a cornerstone of his administration’s strategy to combat unemployment and modernize the nation’s economic framework.
The ambitious policy, rooted in the National Democratic Congress’ 2024 manifesto, “Resetting Ghana for Jobs, Accountability and Prosperity,” aims to keep markets, industries, and public services operational round-the-clock while generating 1.7 million “decent” jobs by 2029.
At its core, the plan targets Ghana’s pervasive issue of vulnerable employment—a reality where over 60% of workers lack formal job security, fair wages, or social protections. Mahama argued that a functional economy should guarantee not just employment but dignity, safety, and stability for all laborers. “This is not merely about keeping lights on at night,” he emphasized. “It is about creating pathways to sustainable livelihoods.”
Four pillars underpin the strategy. First, governance reforms aim to rebuild trust in institutions battered by corruption scandals and inefficiency. The administration plans to restructure oversight bodies and appoint specialized advisors to curb graft—a critical move for attracting foreign investment. Second, regional diplomacy and domestic security initiatives will prioritize stability, particularly amid rising tensions in West Africa.
Economically, the government faces steep hurdles. Despite recent signs of recovery, inflation remains stubbornly high at 24%, with interest rates stifling business growth. Mahama pledged to overhaul the Bank of Ghana to align monetary policy with job creation, a delicate balancing act between curbing prices and stimulating employment. Meanwhile, infrastructure gaps in energy, transportation, and digital connectivity loom large. The manifesto proposes targeted investments to support night-time logistics, such as expanded public transit and reliable electricity—a nod to the chronic power shortages that have hampered productivity for decades.
Analysts acknowledge the vision’s potential but stress execution risks. “Round-the-clock economies thrive on robust systems and trust,” said Accra-based economist Nana Asante. “Ghana must address basics first: stable power, safe streets, and affordable credit. Without these, even the boldest plans may falter.” Skeptics also question how small businesses, which dominate Ghana’s informal sector, will adapt to nighttime operations without subsidies or training.
For now, the proposal has ignited debate. Supporters view it as a catalyst for formalizing Ghana’s economy and absorbing its youth bulge—60% of the population is under 25. Critics, however, warn against overpromising in a nation where previous job-creation schemes have fizzled. As Mahama’s team begins drafting legislation, the world will watch whether this 24-hour vision can transition from rhetoric to reality—or if it becomes another footnote in Ghana’s struggle to harness its potential.
Your leadership is needed now more than sver – NPP USA to Bawumia
The First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) USA, James Owusu, has called on Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to continue his leadership in shaping Ghana’s future.
Speaking on behalf of the party’s diaspora branch, Mr Owusu emphasised that Dr Bawumia’s expertise and vision remained crucial for the nation’s progress.
His statement followed Dr Bawumia’s address at Harvard University on Saturday, February 15, where the former Vice President of Ghana spoke about economic transformation and digital innovation.
Acknowledging the strides made during Dr Bawumia’s tenure, Mr Owusu highlighted the importance of continuity in leadership to sustain the gains achieved.
“Your journey is far from over, and your leadership is needed now more than ever,” Mr Owusu declared.
He stressed that, despite challenges and political opposition, Dr Bawumia’s policies had laid a strong foundation for economic growth and governance reforms.
The NPP USA leadership reaffirmed its unwavering support for Dr Bawumia, urging him to remain steadfast in his commitment to Ghana’s development.
They expressed confidence that his contributions would continue to shape the country’s future and inspire the next generation of leaders.

Apostle Solomon Oduro and Charlotte Oduro’s divorce feels like a dirty game – Vida Adumtwumwaa
Entertainment pundit Vida Adumtwumwaa
Entertainment pundit Vida Adumtwumwaa has expressed her views on the dissolution of the marriage between Apostle Solomon Oduro and counsellor Charlotte Oduro.
During a discussion on United Showbiz on February 15, 2025, Vida Adumtwumwaa expressed that the social media back-and-forth between the former couple is irrelevant.
She highlighted that the ongoing exchange between Rev. Charlotte Oduro and her embattled husband, Apostle Solomon, on social media seems like a dirty game fuelled by revenge.
“The statement Apostle Solomon Oduro made, that he had sex 12 times during their 16 years of marriage, is irrelevant… It has become a battle, and they all want to win in the court of public opinion. There is no sense in what they are doing… It is a dirty game; they have hired bloggers to write negative things about each other.
“It appears more like a revenge marriage because Charlotte Oduro had initially noted that she didn’t love her former husband,” she said.
Vida Adumtwumwaa further added that Apostle Oduro is capitalising on his embattled wife’s popularity to build his own church.
“Apostle Oduro has seen how famous Charlotte Oduro is right now, so he is taking advantage of it to gain followers for his church,” she added.

‘Wherever Ken Ofori-Atta is, we will find him’ – Asiedu Nketiah vows
Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah (L) and Ken Ofori-Atta (R)
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has stated that former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta must be held accountable for allegations of corruption.
In a video that has gone viral online on Sunday, February 16, 2025, Asiedu Nketiah emphasised that all former government officials implicated in corruption cases must submit themselves for investigation.
“Wherever Ken Ofori-Atta is, we will find him. He has to avail himself for questioning in the corruption cases he has been mentioned in. He must be held accountable for his actions.
“All the former government officials who have been mentioned by the OSP will also have to submit themselves for further investigations. Under this government, accountability will work”, he declared.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) recently declared Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted fugitive.
At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng disclosed that all indications suggest Ofori-Atta has absconded from Ghana to evade investigations into alleged corruption.
He stated that Ofori-Atta has two choices, either return to the jurisdiction voluntarily or face the consequences.
The former finance minister is under investigation regarding contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for revenue assurance in the petroleum and minerals sectors.
Another investigation concerns the termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Beijing Technology Limited for distribution loss reduction and network improvement.
He is also being investigated over procurement, payments, and activities related to the controversial National Cathedral project.
He has further been linked to contracts awarded by the Ministry of Health, initially through the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives, to Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for the purchase and maintenance of 307 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 305 CDI ambulances for the National Ambulance Service.
Also, the OSP is examining payments made from and the utilization of the Ghana Revenue Authority’s tax refund account.
Following these allegations, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng has demanded Ofori-Atta’s immediate return to Ghana to face investigations.

Taxation is crippling many industries in Ghana – Abraham Koomson
Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Abraham Koomson
The Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has bemoaned the numerous taxes paid by businesses in Ghana.
According to him, the over 16 taxes paid are hindering the growth of businesses and collapsing others that cannot stand this pressure.
Speaking on GhanaWeb TV’s BizTech program hosted by Ernestina Serwaa Asante, he stated that the government tends to lose if businesses fold up, as no taxes can be collected from them.
To solve this high taxation problem faced by the business community, Abraham Koomson said the government must rather expand the tax net by roping in those in the informal sector instead of burdening the few that pay their taxes with new ones.
He told the host of BizTech, Ernestina Serwaa Asante, that, “If you [government] impose too much taxes on these industries, they will collapse and you will end up not getting any taxes at all. What we are saying is that, don’t overtax. Rather, help the industries to grow, expand and by doing that, you will end up getting more taxes from the employees and from the companies themselves but if you impose too many taxes, you’ll end up running down these companies.”
“They should expand the tax net so that everybody, whether you are in the informal economy or formal, can at least contribute. But you don’t impose this thing on the few investors that have come to establish and create jobs for your own people. You want to drive them away? They don’t care,” Koomson stated on BizTech.
He indicated that taxation for production was the best approach to deal with unemployment by creating more jobs.
He added that the high production rate recorded would attract more investors and that Ghana would remain the best investment destination in West Africa.

Traveling with business class is not a cost-cutting measure—Nana Aba Anamoah
Television personality Nana Aba Anamoah has indicated that the directive that government officials must not take the first class when traveling out of the country is not a cost-cutting measure.
She argues that in Ghana, it is only the Emirates that offers first-class services and so appointees will continue to take business class, which comes at a very high cost and has always been the flight option appointees use.
Sacking public servants deemed NPP dangerous – Ofosu Nkansah tells NDC
Former Chief Executive Officer of The National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has counseled the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) against sacking public servants who they deem to have ties with the New Patriotic Party.
He is of the view that if the NDC continues on the tangent of sacking public servants just because they think they are affiliated with the opposition political party, it sends a wrong signal and sets a dangerous precedent for the future.

The Killing of Francis “Pooley” Frimpong and Ghana’s Football Crisis
The brutal murder of Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, has reignited urgent questions about violence, accountability, and neglect in Ghana’s Premier League.
A lifelong supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Pooley’s dedication to his club and the local league stood in stark contrast to the apathy of those entrusted with safeguarding the sport. His death, following a violent clash at a match involving Nsoatreman FC, has become a grim symbol of systemic failure.
Pooley embodied the spirit of grassroots fandom. Like die-hard followers of English Premier League clubs, he traveled extensively to support Kotoko, often facing hostility at away games. His crime? Passion. Friends recall his motorbike, borrowed from a relative, adorned with the team’s flag as he zipped across Kumasi to defend Kotoko on radio shows. Even while working in Ivory Coast, he returned regularly to trade goods and attend matches. “Everything I do for Kotoko is from my heart,” he once told journalist Joe Laka. His reward, he said, was simply seeing the team thrive.
But Pooley’s unwavering loyalty collided with a league plagued by chaos. Football hooliganism, escalating since the 2001 May 9 Stadium disaster, has spiraled unchecked. Players, referees, and fans now routinely face violence. Former national coach Maxwell Konadu was attacked by fans in Sunyani. A female referee was assaulted in Tamale, her attacker escaping meaningful punishment. The Ghana Football Association (GFA), under President Kurt Okraku, has issued hollow condemnations while doing little to address the rot.
Pooley’s killing lays bare this negligence. During a match in February, he was stabbed to death by a mob allegedly linked to Nsoatreman FC. Witnesses claim the violence was instigated by individuals close to the club’s financier, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, a former MP and minister. Pooley reportedly apologized to Awuah for a perceived slight moments before the attack. His plea was met with brutality. Among those implicated are a bodyguard and a woman accused of taunting, “The job is finished,” as Pooley bled out.
Critics argue the GFA’s inertia stems from complicity. Many officials own clubs or benefit from the league’s dysfunction. Okraku’s “Game-Changer” manifesto, promising to eradicate violence, now reads as a cruel joke. “The FA is preoccupied with the Black Stars’ faded glory while the local game burns,” remarked a veteran sports analyst.
Pooley’s death is more than a statistic. He leaves behind a widow of six months and five children. His murder, like countless others, risks fading into obscurity without decisive action. Kotoko, the club he loved, must demand justice—not just for Pooley, but for every fan who still believes in the game.
The tragedy underscores a painful truth: Pooley was a devoted consumer of a product its owners had long abandoned. As journalist Saddick Adams noted, he was “harmless,” a rare advocate for an “ailing” league. His betrayal lies not only in the violence of his killers but in the silence of those who let the chaos fester. Until accountability replaces apathy, Ghana’s football will remain a league of broken promises and buried dreams.
Benedicta Gafah cannot snatch my husband from me – Florence Obinim dispels rumours
Gospel musician, Florence Obinim and her husband, Daniel Obinim
Gospel musician and wife of Bishop Daniel Obinim, Florence Obinim, has stated that no other woman has the ability to take her husband from her.
In a video shared on social media on February 16, 2025, Florence Obinim addressed rumours about actress Benedicta Gafah allegedly stealing her husband and taking over her marriage.
Florence Obinim stated that she is not aware of any such developments, adding that no woman can take her husband away from her.
“My husband hasn’t married any other woman apart from me. If he has secretly married someone else, I am not aware. As long as God is alive, my husband can’t marry Benedicta Gafah as a second wife. No prostitute can snatch him away from me,” she said.
She also called on Ghanaians to stop tarnishing Benedicta Gafah’s image.
Florence Obinim also denied rumours circulating on social media that her weight loss was due to depression.
According to her, she decided to slim down as part of a personal promise she made to herself.
“I haven’t slimmed down because of anything. I decided to slim down. I made a promise to myself that after giving birth, I would lose weight. Besides, when I got married to Obinim, I was slim,” she explained.

Bawumia wows Harvard University with impressive achievements of Ghana’s digitalisation drive
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President of Ghana, captivated an audience at Harvard University on Saturday, 15th February, as he detailed Ghana’s remarkable strides in digital transformation.
Addressing students, faculty, and policy experts at the prestigious African Development Conference, he outlined how Ghana has strategically leveraged digitalisation to modernise its economy, improve public service delivery, and create employment opportunities.
“Africa does not lack talent. What we lack is deliberateness, leadership, and investment to create the ecosystems where innovations and innovators thrive,” Dr Bawumia asserted, emphasising the importance of embracing technology for economic progress.
At the heart of his speech was Ghana’s adoption of the Ghanacard, a biometric national ID system that has provided over 85% of adults with unique identities, streamlining financial inclusion, taxation, and access to government services.
The digital property address system, another groundbreaking initiative, has mapped every square inch of the country, solving a decades-old problem.
“A modern economy simply cannot function without a reliable address system,” he stated, highlighting the efficiency gains these innovations have brought to governance and business.
Dr Bawumia also spoke extensively on Ghana’s leadership in digital payments, particularly the implementation of Mobile Money Interoperability (MMI), which has transformed financial transactions. He noted that the initiative has enabled over 90% of the adult population to access financial services, making Ghana the only African country with universal financial inclusion.
“Ghana is at the cutting edge of digital payments technology,” he proudly declared, citing the country’s recognition as the best in the world for mobile money regulation.
This has facilitated e-commerce growth and empowered small businesses, particularly those operating online.
Another highlight of his address was Ghana’s digitisation of the health sector, which has streamlined medical records and improved service delivery.
He described how drone technology, through a partnership with Zipline, has revolutionised emergency medical supply deliveries to remote areas, saving countless lives. “Ghana now has the largest medical drone delivery service in the world,” he revealed, underscoring the impact of innovative solutions in addressing long-standing healthcare challenges.
He further pointed to digitalisation efforts in agriculture, where the introduction of a biometric farmer database has enhanced planning, transparency, and financial access for farmers.
In concluding his speech, Dr Bawumia championed Africa’s potential to lead in the digital revolution, urging policymakers to adopt a mindset of possibilities.
He stressed that digitalisation is not merely a luxury but a necessity for survival and prosperity in the 21st century.
“By working together—governments, businesses, educators, and innovators—we can build a future where every African has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to a brighter tomorrow,” he said.
His compelling presentation received a standing ovation, cementing Ghana’s reputation as a leader in digital transformation on the African continent.

Digital economy holds the keys to Africa’s prosperity and job creation – Bawumia
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President of Ghana, has highlighted the transformative power of the digital economy in shaping Africa’s future.
Speaking at Harvard University on Saturday, 15th February, he emphasised that digitalisation is no longer a luxury but a necessity for survival and prosperity in the 21st century.
“We are in the midst of a global digital revolution,” he stated. “Artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things are not just buzzwords; they are reshaping our world.”

According to him, Africa must act with boldness and foresight to avoid missing out on the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as it did with previous ones.
Dr Bawumia detailed Ghana’s strides in digital transformation, citing the significant progress made over the past eight years.
He explained that digitalisation was key to solving long-standing systemic issues, particularly in areas such as financial inclusion, healthcare, agriculture, and public service delivery.

“Our focus is on digital technology that can solve our problems,” he asserted.
“We are not looking to have driverless cars or humanoid robots at this stage. We want technology that can improve access to credit, enhance public service efficiency, and boost economic opportunities.”
He noted that initiatives such as the GhanaCard, the digital property address system, and mobile money interoperability had created a more formalised, transparent, and financially inclusive economy.
One of the standout achievements Dr Bawumia highlighted was Ghana’s success in financial inclusion, facilitated by mobile money interoperability.
“When we assumed office in 2017, 70% of Ghanaians had no bank accounts,” he revealed.
“However, with mobile money interoperability, we have extended financial services to over 90% of adults, making Ghana the only country in Africa with 100% access to financial inclusion.”
This has not only facilitated seamless transactions but has also fostered entrepreneurship and e-commerce, enabling businesses to thrive without the need for physical infrastructure.
Beyond financial services, he underscored the impact of digitalisation on governance, agriculture, and healthcare.
The introduction of the Citizens App and the integration of government databases have improved efficiency and accessibility in public services. In the agricultural sector, the digitisation of farms and farmer databases has enhanced productivity and ensured better traceability of produce.
“Ghana is the only cocoa-producing country in the world with a fully digitised cocoa management system,” he said.
He also noted that Ghana now has the largest medical drone delivery service in the world, helping to address healthcare challenges in remote areas.
Concluding his address, Dr Bawumia stressed that Africa’s economic future depends on its ability to harness digital technology effectively.
“The digital economy holds the key to unlocking Africa’s vast potential and creating jobs for the youth,” he said. He called for increased investment, leadership, and collaboration across governments, businesses, and educational institutions to build a strong digital ecosystem.
“By working together, we can build a future where every African has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to a brighter tomorrow.”

IMF issues update on Ghana after 4-day engagement with officials
A staff team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Stéphane Roudet, has concluded a four-day visit to Ghana, engaging with government officials and stakeholders on key economic issues.
At the end of the visit which lasted February 10-14, Mr. Roudet issued a statement highlighting the discussions held with Ghanaian authorities.
“The mission team engaged the Ghanaian authorities on recent macroeconomic developments. It also started discussions on the policies that will underpin the 2025 budget. This dialogue is set to continue over the coming weeks.”
The visit also focused on reviewing Ghana’s commitments under the IMF-supported program. According to Mr. Roudet, “We also took stock of the authorities’ progress in meeting key commitments under the Fund-supported program. This is what Kendrick Lamar will earn for the Super Bowl halftime show
American rapper, Kendrick Lamar
The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the most-watched musical performances in the world. Last year’s Super Bowl drew in an estimated 123 million viewers worldwide, according to Forbes.
For artists, it’s a career-defining moment, a chance to showcase their talent on a stage that has a global audience. However, when it comes to payment, the numbers might surprise you. Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar is no exception to the unique financial dynamics of the Super Bowl halftime show.
So, how much does he actually get paid for his performance?
Prestige over Paycheck
According to WCNC, artists who perform at the Super Bowl halftime show don’t receive a traditional performance fee. Regardless of the artists, be it Lamar, Rihanna, or Jay-Z, the NFL does not pay artists for their time on stage. Instead, the league covers production costs, which can run into the millions, but the artists themselves perform essentially for free.
This might seem shocking, especially considering the scale of the event. The Super Bowl regularly attracts over 100 million viewers worldwide, and the halftime show is often the most-watched segment of the broadcast. Artists perform without a direct paycheck, however, the benefits extend far beyond immediate financial gain.
Exposure and building a legacy
While Lamar isn’t pocketing a hefty fee for his halftime performance, the exposure he gains is invaluable. The Super Bowl halftime show is a cultural phenomenon, and performing on that stage cements an artist’s place in music history. For Lamar, whose work often explores themes of identity, race, and social justice, the halftime show offers a platform to amplify his message to an audience that might not typically engage with his music.
Moreover, the halftime show often leads to a significant boost in streaming numbers and album sales. For instance, after Rihanna’s 2023 performance, her music saw a 640% increase in streams. Lamar, whose catalogues include critically acclaimed albums like good kid, m.A.A.d city, To Pimp a Butterfly, and DAMN., is likely to experience a similar surge in interest. This renewed attention can translate into millions of dollars in revenue from streaming platforms, merchandise sales, and increased ticket demand for future tours.
The NFL’s rationale for not paying performers is rooted in the belief that the exposure is payment enough. The league invests heavily in the production of the halftime show, often spending upwards of $10 million to create a visually stunning and technically flawless performance. For artists, the opportunity to collaborate with the NFL’s production team and reach such a massive audience is seen as a fair trade-off for the lack of a direct paycheck.
The bottom line
While Lamar won’t receive a direct payment, he will earn a small, union-mandated minimum fee, reportedly around $1,000, as per the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). Under union agreements, this minimal compensation typically amounts to around $1,000 per day for rehearsals and the performance itself, WCNC reports.
About Lamar
Lamar, born on June 17, 1987, was inspired by Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre. He started rapping while in elementary school and even released his first mixtape at the age of 16 while still in high school.
Since then, he has not only redefined the boundaries of hip-hop but has also built an impressive financial empire through his craft. As of 2025, his net worth is estimated to be between $85 million and $140 million, solidifying his status as one of the wealthiest and most influential artists in the music industry.
Recently when Lamar, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and 50 Cent performed at the Super Bowl halftime show, they also saw a major boost to their catalogs. There was a 183% increase in album sales for Dr. Dre a week after the show. Blige’s album sales also rose 999%.

Former GEPA CEO shares her story
In an interview with YouTuber Wode Maya, the former CEO of GEPA recounted how she lost her job because of her dreadlocks.
According to her, although the company did not explicitly state that her hairstyle was the reason for her dismissal, she was effectively frustrated out.
The former CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority noted that she didn’t see anything wrong with wearing dreadlocks, as many girls in the office also wore wigs.
Dr. Afua Asabea Asare explained that the reason for keeping her locs, which are 5 feet 4 inches long, is because she made a “covenant” with God in a time of need.
GEPA was established by Act 396 in 1969 as an agency of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
It is mandated to develop and promote Ghanaian exports, as well as diversify Ghana’s export base from the traditional gold and other unprocessed minerals, cocoa beans, timber logs, and lumber.
