Stop attacking the First Lady or women will mobilise to ‘discipline’ you – Abronye warned

The Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, a non-governmental organisation, has issued a strong warning to Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, demanding that he cease his attacks on First Lady, Lordina Mahama.

Madam Nyonkopa Daniels declared that she is prepared to mobilise women across the country to confront the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if he fails to desist.

According to her, Abronye has persistently and without provocation targeted the First Lady.

She explained that his recent attacks, following Madam Lordina Mahama’s speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, were the final straw.

Madam Daniels described his comments as unfair, particularly criticising him for ridiculing the First Lady and unjustifiably comparing her to former First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo and former Second Lady Samira Bawumia.

She emphasised that while “we all have our strengths and weaknesses,” this does not grant anyone the right to denigrate and ridicule a woman who has served the nation.

“Abronye is gradually losing control, and it appears everyone has remained silent. His unwarranted attacks on the First Lady are unacceptable,” Madam Daniels stated firmly.

“For someone who hails from her region to insult and ridicule her in this manner exposes his erratic behaviour. I believe he may be experiencing a mental breakdown, but we will not stand by and allow him to continue. He must stop immediately, or we will mobilise Ghanaian women to demonstrate against him and ensure he is disciplined.”

She further questioned, “He has misbehaved for too long and because we allowed him to continue, he now believes he is untouchable. He must halt his attacks or we will discipline him.”

Madam Daniels also urged women in the Bono Region, the First Lady’s home region, to rise up and speak out against Abronye’s behaviour.

“Their daughter is being treated unfairly, and they must stop him immediately,” she concluded.

NDC can’t use 8 months to solve 8 years of NPP galamsey mess – NDC New York

Secretary of the New York Chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Suwari Secretary of the New York Chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Suwari

The Secretary of the New York Chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Suwari says the sympathizers and followers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should not expect the NDC government to use eight months to solve the galamsey mess caused by the previous administration.

According to Alhaji Suwari, the rise of illegal mining popularly known as galamsey did not start in this current NDC administration, stating that “everyone is aware some known NPP gurus were involved in galamsey and destroyed our lands, forests and river bodies to an extent that seized excavators got missing under the Akufo Addo and Bawumia government.”

Alhaji Suwari was speaking in an interview on Adinkra Radio New York with Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman and added that President Mahama has said the fight against galamsey will be a process and not an event.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has invited major civil society organisations (CSOs) to the Jubilee House for a high-level engagement on illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

The meeting will bring together government officials and civil society leaders to deliberate on lasting solutions to the environmental and social crisis caused by galamsey.

“This engagement aims to provide a platform for frank and constructive dialogue between the Government and civil society on the menace of illegal mining, with a view to harnessing collective expertise, perspectives, and solutions to address this national challenge,” the letter stated.

The engagement comes at a time when illegal mining continues to spark widespread public concern over the destruction of water bodies, farmlands, and forest reserves, amid calls for stronger government action.

I don’t profit from galamsey

0

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his government’s determination to end illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, assuring Ghanaians that he has no personal or political interest in the menace.

Speaking at a meeting with civil society organisations on Friday, October 3, the President dismissed suggestions that he or his administration benefit from illegal mining.

“We will continue to fight. I believe we will win the fight against galamsey. We have nothing to hide; I don’t gain anything from galamsey. I’m not personally involved in galamsey. I have no interest in galamsey continuing,” Mahama said.

He stressed that the fight requires collective effort, assuring stakeholders of his government’s continued partnership.

“You can be sure that we’re all on the same side. And we will continue to do this together,” he added.

The President’s remarks come amid heightened calls from religious leaders, civil society, and communities for stronger action to halt the destruction caused by galamsey to the country’s water bodies, farmlands, and environment.

NAIMOS to patrol galamsey sites 24/7 with troops, drones and hotlines

0

The National Inter-Agency Taskforce on Illegal Mining (NAIMOS) says it will deploy around-the-clock patrols, drones, and new reporting lines to crush illegal mining after zoning the country into operational sectors and sending hundreds of troops to sensitive areas.

Speaking at a meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), NAIMOS Head of Operations, Colonel Dominic Buah, outlined a tougher new posture against galamsey, promising continuous presence at hotspots, tighter surveillance, and harsher treatment for offenders.

“What should Ghanaians expect? There is a lot more. The NAIMOS is going to deploy fully, firmly as the minister has been highlighting across the length and breadth of the country,” Colonel Buah said, explaining that the force has zoned the country into seven illegal mining regions, further divided into 21 sectors.

“We are going to deploy troops enough at every centre — they will be there 24/7. The illegal miners think they can operate in the night, no. We will picket every location and make sure that life is made unbearable for them going forward, and we will be ruthless with them because they are environmental terrorists and must be treated as such,” he warned.

Colonel Buah said NAIMOS will target every vulnerable point in those zones: “every water body within those zones, every forest reserve, the roads and railways which are being dug and then foreigners who have come to destroy our environment.” He added that legal miners who comply will still have access to designated, sustainable areas.

To boost citizen participation, NAIMOS will soon launch a 24-hour toll-free line for public reporting. “These lines have been procured; we are just renovating the secretariat, and all citizens will have the right to call in. If you see any illegal mining going on somewhere, say something, do something,” he said.

Technology will also play a central role in the campaign. “On the technology, there are a lot of drones. We are collaborating with the National Signal Bureau to get the drones and the right technology so that once we deal with the place, we are able to see or follow through with the surveillance of the place and don’t get the return of these illegal miners,” he explained.

Colonel Buah issued a stark warning to financiers and organisers of galamsey operations: “With your permission, I would like to send this warning to illegal miners, their assigns, and financiers that they are the first or prime enemies of the state and they will be dealt with as such. There will be no room for them to escape or to hide. NAIMOS will smoke them out very soon; there is no resting place for them.”

On personnel, the operations chief revealed that the task force has trained and begun deploying an initial batch of more than 400 troops to sensitive locations, with reinforcements to follow.

“We have already trained over 400 troops who are the first batch deployed or under deployment to sensitive areas. We will continue to deploy more so that we will all go to bed knowing that NAIMOS is firmly on the ground and illegal mining will be a thing of the past,” Colonel Buah said.

Bechem United hold Hearts of Oak to stalemate in Bechem

0

Hearts of Oak were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Bechem United in their Week 4 Ghana Premier League clash at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Friday afternoon.

The Phobians went into the match full of confidence after picking up seven points from their opening three games, but they were unable to break down a resolute Bechem defence despite creating a number of chances.

Coach Didi Dramani’s side dominated possession for large spells of the game, with Abdul Karim and Raphael pulling the strings in midfield.

The game did not see many chances despite as both sides were cautious with their approach.

Bechem United, who are yet to register a win this season, looked content with the draw despite extending their winless streak.

The result leaves Hearts unbeaten after four matches, though they will rue the missed opportunity to extend their winning run. Bechem, meanwhile, will take encouragement from holding one of the league’s title contenders.

‘Stop forming cartels’ – Grace Ashly tells gospel fraternity

Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician, Grace Ashly Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician, Grace Ashly

Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Grace Ashly has expressed disappointment over what she termed the rise of “cartels” within the gospel music scene.

During an interview with bloggers on October 2, 2025, to celebrate her 25 years in music, she urged her fellow gospel artistes to prioritize love and unity rather than forming cliques that divide the industry.

“We should be real. Many gospel musicians fake for the camera. If you love me, love me. Don’t pretend to love your colleagues on camera and hate them in private,” she said.

According to Grace Ashly, some groups of musicians only support projects from those within their circle, sidelining others.

“I have seen that some gospel musicians have formed cartels. And are dictating what should happen in the industry.

“When a musician has a project, they will come and support, but when another musician not in their group has a project, none of them will show up,” she lamented.

‘The creative industry is fake, there is a cabal running it’ – Obibini

She emphasised that gospel musicians, as Christians, should reflect true love and solidarity.

“Once we are in the industry, you must learn to love yourselves just as Christianity dictates. So I urge them to love each other… When I hear about divisions within the industry, it hurts me,” she added.

UNICEF, AU Launch Initiative To Combat Child Malnutrition

0

Some dignitaries with the document

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Government of Benin, has launched the First Foods Africa Initiative, a continental effort aimed at tackling child food poverty and malnutrition through nutrition-sensitive food systems.

The programme was unveiled at a high-level event in Cotonou on Monday, September 29, with regional leaders, policymakers, and civil society groups in attendance.

Director of Health and Humanitarian Affairs at the AUC, Prof. Julio Rakotonirina, described the launch as a step towards eradicating child malnutrition and building resilient food systems across the continent.

“Nutrition is a right for every child, regardless of their geographic or economic background. Investing in children’s first foods means investing in Africa’s greatest wealth — its people,” he added.

Globally, one in four children under five (around 181 million) suffer from severe food poverty, according to UNICEF. Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for nearly a third of these cases, with 57 million children affected. Many survive on just breastmilk and a starchy staple, diets that leave them dangerously short of essential nutrients.

Although Africa has made progress in reducing stunting rates from 41.5% in 2000 to 32.3% today, population growth has increased the total number of stunted children from 55 million to over 62 million. More than 11 million children across the continent also suffer from wasting, a condition linked to acute malnutrition.

UNICEF officials argue that traditional food security efforts often prioritise staple crops and yields while neglecting the specific nutritional needs of infants and young children.

The First Foods Africa strategy seeks to close that gap through three main pillars; by encouraging local production of safe, affordable, and nutrient-rich foods for children under five; strengthening policies that guarantee children’s access to those foods; and promoting healthy diets through social marketing, behaviour change programmes, and community engagement.

The initiative will roll out in 14 priority countries across West, Central, East, and Southern Africa. It will be supported by governments, African food companies, and international partners such as Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP), World Health Organisation (WHO), and the World Bank.

To finance the programme, UNICEF is setting up a Child Nutrition Fund (CNF) to channel investments, de-risk private sector involvement, and provide technical support.

Speaking at the launch, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Omar Abdi called the initiative “a transformative moment for Africa’s children.”

Benin’s Minister of State for Government Action Coordination, Abdoulaye Bio Tchane, reaffirmed his country’s support: “Benin reaffirms its commitment today to champion child nutrition. It is essential to building a resilient continent.”

Civil society and private sector representatives at the event also expressed strong backing for reshaping food systems to meet children’s needs.

If successful, First Foods Africa could significantly reduce malnutrition rates and ensure millions of African children gain access to healthier diets. UNICEF says the initiative is central to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the AU’s Agenda 2063.

By addressing the root causes of food poverty, UNICEF and its partners hope to secure a healthier, more prosperous future for Africa’s youngest citizens.

Sack our MCE for lying about galamsey in his municipality – Residents agitate

Pressure is mounting on President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tano North, Pius Opoku, following allegations that he misled the public about the extent of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in the municipality.

The calls come after a Facebook post by JoyNews journalist Erastus Asare Donkor on Friday, October 3, accused Mr Opoku of leading traditional leaders upstream to record videos suggesting the Bisi River was unaffected by galamsey, when in reality the downstream section at Adrobaa Bisi was badly polluted.

Claim: President Mahama has restored GN Bank’s licence

Source: Social Media

Verdict: False

Researched by Nusrat Essah

Claims circulating on social media since September 27, 2025, suggest that President John Dramani Mahama has restored the banking licence of the Groupe Nduom (GN) Bank owned by Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom.

A Facebook post showing a photo of President Mahama and Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, who is the founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), shaking hands, was captioned: “Gn Bank is back. As his licence has been restored!!Thanks to H.E. President Mahama. Commencing 2026.” The post has gained 3,400 comments, 41,000 likes, and 1,000 shares.

False! President Mahama has not restored GN Bank’s licence

Fig.2 – Screenshot of post on X

Another post on September 28, 2025, said: “Back in 2019, under President Akufo-Addo, GN Bank’s licence was revoked. But yesterday, President Mahama restored the licence to Dr Paa Kwesi and assured Ghanaians that the bank will be fully operational next year. Big Kudos to President Mahama and his government team!”

This report seeks to verify whether President Mahama has restored the licence of GN Bank.

Fact-Check

In June 2024, then presidential candidate John Mahama, during his campaign, pledged to restore collapsed banks and financial institutions after a thorough assessment, once elected.

“After a thorough and unbiased assessment, collapsed banks and financial institutions shall be restored,” he said in the JohnMahamaLIVE interaction on June 9, 2024.

In July 2024, during a meeting with John Mahama, Paa Kwesi Nduom appealed for the restoration of GN Bank’s licence should Mahama win the December 2024 elections.

False! President Mahama has not restored GN Bank’s licence

Screenshots of Dr Nduom appealing to Mahama

The image circulating with the current claim is old and was captured when Dr Nduom petitioned the President in July 2024.

Furthermore, since President Mahama won the election and was sworn into office, there has been no official statement confirming the restoration of GN Bank’s licence.

GhanaFact searched the official social media page of the Presidency, the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and the Bank of Ghana, but found no information regarding the restoration of GN Bank’s licence. Our emails to known BoG addresses were not delivered.

PPP official speaks

During an interview on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa show on October 1, 2025, the Director of Operations of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah, debunked the claim, saying the licence cannot be restored because of an ongoing Court of Appeal case.

This is what ensued between Divine Nkrumah and Kwame Appiah Kubi.

Host: “Is Paa Kwesi Nduom there?  I heard he has gotten back his licence, so he will be resuming work at GN Bank soon.”

Divine Nkrumah: “The story is not accurate, it is not a true reflection of what is happening on the ground. The discussions around the restoration of the license are ongoing. But where it is right now is that…

“You know, at the time of the revocation of the licenses of all the banks, some of the owners, the CEOs and the management were sued by the government for either misappropriation, mismanagement, financial whatever. But in the case of GN Bank, Dr Nduom was not sued; he rather sued the government.

“At the first ruling, the court upheld the Bank of Ghana’s decision to revoke the licence. Subsequently, GN and Dr Nduom went to the Court of Appeal because they did not accept the outcome of the first ruling.

“So, as we speak, the case is still in court, and there’s a legal vacation. So because of the ongoing court case, it is impossible to restore the licence even if the President, the BOG or any other person wants to.”

Host: “So it is not true, like we see on social media, that GN Bank’s licence has been restored?”

Divine Nkrumah: “No, it is not true.”

Verdict

Therefore, the claim that the GN Bank’s licence has been restored is False.

The Member of Parliament for Trobu, Gloria Owusu, has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 Election to the party’s attitude, rather than the 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Addressing party members during Dr Mahamadu Bawumia’s two-day tour of the Central Region on Friday, October 3, 2025, she stated, “I must emphasise that the 2024 electoral defeat was not caused by a particular candidate; it was the behavior and attitude we exhibited at the polling stations, especially by our executives.”

The lawmaker also stressed the need for party members to maintain the former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as the party’s flagbearer in the 2028 Election.

“I was at the Dome Market when a market woman approached me. The woman said that if the NPP does not present Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer in the 2028 Election, it would be a grave mistake. She said, ‘We do not want a candidate who attacks the personality of others,'” she said.

As part of the tour, Dr Bawumia is expected to hold meetings with constituency and regional executives across the region, continuing a series of engagements designed to harness support for his flagbearership bid.

GEXIM Bank CEO rallies Volta MMDCEs to embrace 24-Hour Economy

0

Chief Executive of the Ghana EXIM Bank, Sylvester Adinam Mensah Chief Executive of the Ghana EXIM Bank, Sylvester Adinam Mensah

The Chief Executive of the Ghana EXIM Bank, Sylvester Adinam Mensah, has rallied Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Volta Region behind the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Policy.

Speaking at a preparatory retreat for the MMDCEs at Tegbi in the Volta Region ahead of the Volta Economic Forum scheduled for October 31, 2025, Mensah challenged the Chief Executives to take advantage of the policy and position their districts to tap into its benefits.

“The task now is to position our Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to be relevant to this policy. If we find relevance in the policy, our people will find prosperity in the region,” he said.

GEXIM affirms support to garment, textile and apparel industry players

According to him, “we have transitioned from party work to development work. Things don’t just happen, we have to make them happen. At the moment, we are at the forefront of President Mahama’s reset agenda that is moving across every district and region. We must ensure that it succeeds.”

He clarified that the 24-Hour Economy is not simply about working longer hours, but about creating an enabling environment where industries, logistics, and services operate seamlessly across time zones to make Ghana globally competitive.

“This requires local government commitment to provide land, planning, and regulatory facilitation. It also requires private sector innovation to invest in enterprises that generate jobs and wealth. It needs financial support and discipline, where GEXIM stands ready as a reliable partner, but expects accountability and repayment to ensure sustainable financing,” he stated.

Don’t just compete, let’s lead – Sylvester Mensah to exporters

The MMDCEs’ retreat, organised by the Volta Economic Embassy, was aimed at preparing participants to meaningfully engage at the Volta Economic Forum, which will take place in a couple of weeks as part of activities marking this year’s Hogbetsotso festival.

While pledging GEXIM’s support through partnership, Mensah urged the MMDCEs to “focus on bankable ideas that align with Ghana’s industrial and export development goals.”

He emphasised that the Volta Economic Corridor, a key component of the 24-Hour Economy strategy, “should not be an abstract concept. It should translate into rice mills in Hohoe, cassava processing factories in Adaklu, logistics hubs in Aflao, beach resorts in Tegbi, and renewable energy farms across the region.”

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, who addressed the meeting virtually, assured the MMDCEs that government was making the necessary efforts to connect cities and towns in the region through its flagship infrastructure programme, the Big Push.

The event was attended by officials from the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and several other government agencies.

Attorney-General says Chairman Wontumi will be arrested on Monday if …

The Attorney-General, Dr Dominic Ayine, has disclosed that charges against the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and his Akonta Mining firm, have been completed and signed.

He announced that Mr Boasiako has been directed to report to Accra on Monday, October 6, 2025, for his charges to be read. Dr Ayine warned that failure to comply would result in his arrest.

Speaking during President John Dramani Mahama’s engagement with civil society organisations on illegal mining in Accra on Friday, October 3, Dr Ayine stated: “The charges against Wontumi, Akonta Mining have been signed. He should be here on Monday. If he doesn’t come by Monday, I will order his arrest, and his charges will be read to him.”

The development follows ongoing investigations into the operations of Akonta Mining. The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, earlier confirmed that probes were underway, adding that one other person connected to the company had been arrested.

She explained that Chairman Wontumi had engaged with investigators on several occasions but had recently delayed further appearances due to illness, a claim supported by his lawyer. DCOP Donkor stressed that “the investigations are actively ongoing” and assured the public that the final outcome would be communicated.

The CID had also arrested and taken statements from a business associate of Mr Boasiako, identified as Akuoko, in connection with the matter.

Chairman Wontumi was first invited by the CID on May 26, 2025, and appeared in the company of his legal counsel, former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, and former Asante-Akim North MP Andy Appiah-Kubi.

He has consistently denied any involvement in illegal mining. Speaking on his TV station, Wontumi TV, he said: “I want to tell the public that I am not into galamsey. I have a large-scale company, which Akonta Mining is under… All the required documents I have, I will make all available.”

He added that he was prepared to cooperate fully with investigations. “I am appealing to them to use the law. They should do their investigations, and we should let the law work,” he said.

We can win galamsey fight without State of Emergency

0

President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the National Security Council does not currently see the need to declare a state of emergency in response to the ongoing fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Speaking during a stakeholder engagement on illegal mining in Accra, the President stated that although he holds the constitutional power to declare a state of emergency, such action must be based on advice from the National Security Council, which, at present, believes the battle against galamsey can be won through existing legal and security frameworks.

“Yes, I have the power to do it,” Mahama said. “But the president acts not only on his authority but also on the advice of the National Security Council…as of now, the National Security Council believes that we can win the fight against galamsey without a state of emergency,” he affirmed.

However, the President also made it clear that he would not hesitate to declare it should the security leadership deem it necessary in the future.

“The day they advise me otherwise — that now we need a state of emergency — I will not hesitate in declaring it,” he said.

Mahama’s remarks come amid renewed pressure from civil society organisations and faith-based groups urging the government to take more drastic measures to stop the environmental destruction caused by illegal mining.

Despite not invoking emergency powers, Mahama reiterated his government’s full commitment to the fight, referencing ongoing reforms, prosecutions, and inter-agency operations aimed at dismantling illegal mining networks and restoring Ghana’s degraded lands and water bodies.

“We still believe we have the power to win this fight,” he concluded.

Strategic Evolution of a Decade-Long Initiative Sees Record Impact with Free Health and Education Services, Paving the Way for Year-Round Support

What began as a single-day health and educational support outreach has blossomed into a lifeline for thousands. The Empowerment Care Foundation, the humanitarian arm of Empowerment Worship Centre, today announced the monumental success of its LIFECHECK 2025 initiative, which provided critical health screenings, surgical procedures, and essential educational materials to a record 17,000 residents of Adenta, Madina, and surrounding communities.

The main event, held on September 27th at the Adenta Village Astro Turf, was the culmination of a week dedicated to proactive wellness, kickstarted by a community-run-a-thon. This year’s effort propels the initiative’s total impact to over 65,000 lives touched since its inception in 2014, cementing its legacy as a powerful force for community transformation.

The true success of LIFECHECK, however, is measured not just in numbers, but in restored sight, mended health, and the confident smiles of children equipped for school.

We treated a grandmother who had been living with debilitating cataracts for years. After a simple procedure at our eye clinic, she saw her granddaughters face clearly for the first time, shared Prophet Gideon Danso, Global Lead Pastor of Empowerment Worship Centre. That moment is why we do this. LIFECHECK is our commitment to turn compassion into action and to ensure that no one is left behind in our community.

A Symphony of Services, A Chorus of Impact

LIFECHECK 2025 was a meticulously organized hub of hope, offering a comprehensive suite of free services designed to address both immediate and long-term needs:

Health as a Foundation:The medical team became a temporary field hospital, performing 13 life-changing surgeries, conducting 157 ultrasound scans, and attending to over 1,200 medical cases. Dedicated dental and eye clinics performed 101 procedures and treated 487 cases, respectively. A robust blood donation drive also contributed 78 units to the National Blood Service.

Education as Empowerment:

Understanding that a childs future hinges on being prepared for school, the initiative empowered the next generation by distributing 10,000 school bags, 30,000 exercise books, and 1,000 pairs of shoes, directly supporting over 11,000 students.
Holistic Care for Dignity: Beyond clinical and educational support, the foundation restored dignity and eased financial burdens for families, providing 853+ NHIS registrations, 6,000+ free meals, and 220+ free haircuts for children.

Our vision is expanding beyond a single, powerful day, Prophet Danso added. We are laying the groundwork for a needs banka sustainable model to move from an annual intervention to a source of year-round inspiration and support. This is the heart of our church in action, 365 days a year.

The Empowerment Care Foundation extends a heartfelt invitation to corporations, philanthropists, and the public to join this transformative mission. Financial contributions, in-kind donations of medical or educational supplies, and volunteer support are vital to scaling this impact and making the vision of a year-round community lifeline a reality.

About Empowerment Care Foundation:

The Empowerment Care Foundation is the humanitarian and social intervention arm of the Empowerment Worship Centre, dedicated to expressing Gods love through practical acts of service. Driven by a mission to empower communities, the foundation focuses on critical areas including health, education, and social welfare, believing that every life is worthy of care, support, and the opportunity to thrive.

Ken Agyapong campaign team’s ‘KOKA’ reference not about me

Former NPP chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, widely known as COKA Former NPP chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, widely known as COKA

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, widely known as COKA, has distanced himself from a statement issued by the campaign team of Ken Ohene Agyapong that mentioned the name “KOKA”.

According to Chairman COKA, the reference in the release was not to him but rather to Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu (KOKA), a known supporter of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He explained that the confusion had triggered a flood of calls and enquiries from supporters and members of the public who assumed the statement was directed at him.

“Please be informed that the statement made by Hon. Ken Agyapong’s team is not in reference to me (Chairman COKA). The person in question is Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu (KOKA). I kindly ask everyone to take note,” he clarified.

The clarification follows a strongly worded release from the Ken Agyapong campaign, accusing Dr Bawumia’s camp of “vicious and unprovoked attacks” allegedly spearheaded by Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu.

Speaking on Dess FM in Bekwai on Friday, October 3, and later posting a note on his Facebook wall, Chairman COKA emphasised that he does not wish for his name to be drawn into the ongoing exchanges.

He ended his message by reaffirming his personal mantra: “COKA, I care.”

‘Diddy’s crimes were more than a rockstar lifestyle’

0

Sean Combs, popularly known as P. Diddy or Puff Daddy Sean Combs, popularly known as P. Diddy or Puff Daddy

Sean “Diddy” Combs is in court in New York where he will be sentenced on two counts of transportation for prostitution.

The defence has tried to paint Combs conviction as just a side effect of a “sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle”, but it’s more than that, she goes on.

Prosecutor Christy Slavik, speaking on behalf of the government. Said, “Today is about accountability and justice. This isn’t just a case about sex.”

“It’s a case about real victims who suffered real harm at the hands of the defendant.”

Slavik reiterates that the government recommends a sentence of 135 months (just over 11 years), saying it adequately addresses the separate harms to Cassie Ventura and Jane (who testified under a pseudonym).

“The defendant admitted to violence,” she says and urges the judge to consider that this case is about more than just so-called “freak offs”.

Dozens of reporters, photographers, and news teams are posted out front, alongside content creators livestreaming the events of the day from their phones.

A number of people gathered both in support of and against Combs.

Judge Arun Subramanian is the one who will decide the sentence for Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.

He has been on this bench for about two years and was nominated by former President Joe Biden and confirmed in a 59-23 US Senate vote.

He was recommended to Biden by New York Senator Chuck Schumer, who said in his Senate hearing introduction that “our courts need more people like Arun Subramanian”.

Schumer also said Subramanian, the son of Indian immigrants, is the first South Asian judge in the Southern District of New York.

This is Subramanian’s first high-profile, celebrity case. Before his nomination in 2022, he had a private law practice. Schumer said that as a lawyer, Subramanian defended victims of trafficking and child pornography.

Combs was spotted wearing a white sweater, black pants, and glasses. As well as a noticeable grey beard.

His five adult children and mother were also spotted. Combs was reported to have sounded chipper when the judge greeted him, responding “Morning judge!”

Victim four, an anonymous witness who testified under the name “Mia”, will not be speaking today.

Prosecutors said her decision was in part due to a letter submitted by the defence “which can be described as no less than bullying,” prosecutors said.

The judge agreed, calling the tone of the letter “inappropriate” and telling the defence not to repeat it.

Federal judges have to work within a designated set of guidelines when issuing sentences.

Sentences can be made more severe with certain “enhancements”, or increased penalties, that a judge applies based on a convicted person’s conduct while committing the crime.

Right now, Combs’ side is trying to eliminate as many enhancements as possible, while government prosecutors are trying to add them, by raising objections.

The judge has overruled objections from both parties. But notably, he overruled Combs’ request to not consider conduct that was part of the charge against him for alleged sex trafficking – for which Combs was acquitted. The judge has also overruled his request not to consider “coercion” when calculating a sentence.

Cassie Ventura and “Jane Doe” were both victims, the judge said. He added that Combs’ threats to release videos of Cassie participating in “freak-offs” and to not pay housing costs for “Jane” if she did not go along with hotel nights qualified as coercion.

We must arrest the kingpins, not the boys in the pit – Mahama on galamsey fight

John Dramani Mahama is the president of Ghana John Dramani Mahama is the president of Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has stressed the need for law enforcement agencies to shift their focus from arresting small-scale miners working in illegal pits to apprehending the financiers and masterminds behind such operations.

Speaking during an engagement with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on the galamsey crisis, on Friday, October 3, 2025, Mahama argued that targeting only pit workers does little to curb the menace.

“Those who run the operations are the ones we must arrest, not the boys. We need to change the mode of arrest. We can look rather for the kingpins and deal with them so that we are able to get something from this,” he stated.

We will lay new LI 2501 on October 14 to revoke LI 2462 – Dr Ayine

Mahama emphasised that illegal mining has become an entrenched activity due to the powerful individuals who fund and benefit from the operations, often at the expense of the environment and local communities.

He called for a coordinated approach involving law enforcement, community leaders, and policymakers to dismantle the networks sustaining illegal mining.

The president further noted that tackling the financiers of galamsey would serve as a more effective deterrent and signal the government’s seriousness in addressing the crisis.

Okada riders urge government to reduce motorbike registration fees by 70%

0

According to them, the current costs remain too high According to them, the current costs remain too high

The Commercial National Motor (Okada) Riders Union has appealed to the government to drastically reduce the cost of registering motorbikes and acquiring riding licences as part of efforts to legalise their operations.

In a statement reacting to comments by the transport minister, Joseph Nikpi Bukari, the union welcomed the move to regularise their business but insisted that current costs remain too high.

“We wished our businesses would have been legalised by now, but we will still keep enduring till the time the government is working to get the legalisation done completely,” the union said.

The riders emphasised that the motorbike number plate registration fee was “too expensive” and called for a 70 percent reduction from the current cost, in addition to lower charges for riding licences.

They stressed that the merit of legalising their business was just as important as addressing affordability. “The merit of the legalisation of our business is as crucial as the reduction of the cost of the rider’s licence as well as the cost of the number plate registration of the bikes,” the release noted.

According to the union, their expectations from the government, particularly President John Dramani Mahama, go beyond legalisation and must also take into account the financial burden on riders. “We want to remind the government, especially His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, our beloved President, that our expectations from the government, apart from legalising our business, are as follows,” the statement pointed out.

They cautioned that ignoring these concerns would undermine the government’s efforts. “On the other hand, if the above disturbing concerns are ignored, the entire efforts made by the government regarding okada operations in Ghana will not be appreciated as expected,” the statement added.

This comes after Transport Minister Joseph Nikpi Bukari announced that Cabinet had approved the amended Road Traffic Regulations Bill, paving the way for Parliament to consider legalising commercial motorbike services when the House reconvenes. He explained that the new law will make okada passenger operations lawful by the end of the year once the amendments are passed.

The minister further indicated that the legislation will introduce stricter requirements for riders and their bikes. Riders will need a licence specifically for carrying passengers, and operators must belong to recognised unions, which will work with the DVLA to provide training and certification.

Bukari stressed that both riders and motorbikes must meet safety and roadworthiness standards, adding that unions will play a central role in ensuring compliance.

We welcome your pressure – Mahama to CSOs

0

President John Dramani Mahama has assured civil society groups, faith-based organisations, and environmental advocates that his administration remains fully committed to winning the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking at a high-level stakeholder engagement on Galamsey in Accra on Friday October 3, President Mahama emphasised the importance of public advocacy and accountability in holding the government to its promises.

“I want to assure you that we are determined to win this fight,” the President said, referencing his administration’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities that have devastated Ghana’s forests and water bodies.

In a rare show of openness to criticism, Mahama acknowledged the critical role of civic pressure in driving political action.

“Your contributions, your criticisms, your pressure — putting fire under our feet — we don’t have any problem with that,” he stated.

He further encouraged stakeholders to continue their advocacy, adding that such pressure acts as a necessary force to keep the government accountable and focused on delivering real results.

“You must continue to do your advocacy to urge us on, to encourage us to win the fight,” Mahama said.

The President’s remarks follow renewed calls from groups such as the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, which urged the government to set clear benchmarks, prosecute galamsey kingpins, and establish fast-track courts for environmental crimes.

Mahama Calls for National Ownership in Fight Against Illegal Mining

0

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling illegal mining, widely known as galamsey, stressing that enforcement alone cannot resolve the deep-rooted problem without the active ownership and participation of Ghanaians.

Speaking at the 2025 PR Knowledge Sharing Conference hosted by IPR Ghana and the Africa PR Association, the President said that illegal mining remained one of the most urgent threats confronting the country and warned that it continues to erode Ghana’s environment, public health, and long-term development prospects.

Unlock Volta Region’s agricultural potential to cut food imports – Dr. Dodoo

0

By Michael Foli Jackidy

Tegbi (V/R), Oct 03, GNA – Dr. Ishmael Nii Dodoo, Head of Innovation, Partnership and Markets at the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, has urged Ghana to reduce its heavy dependence on food imports by harnessing the vast agricultural potential of the Volta Region.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the Volta Economic Forum and Retreat for Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) at Tegbi in the Anloga District, Dr. Dodoo described Ghana’s annual food import bill of over $3.5 billion as unsustainable for a nation blessed with fertile land and natural resources.

He disclosed that the country spends about $350 million yearly on animal offal and gallbladders, $450 million on poultry products, and nearly $300 million on fish imports.

Rice imports alone exceed one million metric tons annually, costing Ghana more than $500 million.

“These numbers are untenable. Ghana cannot continue to import what it can produce. The Volta Region, with its vast arable land and strategic location, must become the hub of our national agricultural transformation,” he stressed.

Dr. Dodoo outlined the Secretariat’s flagship initiative, Eden Volta, which seeks to develop two million hectares of irrigated land for year-round cultivation of rice, maize, cassava, vegetables, and aquaculture.

The project aims to substitute at least 60–70 per cent of food imports in the medium term, moving towards 80 per cent in the long term.

He further highlighted the need for value addition through agro-processing, citing cassava for starch, flour, ethanol, and beverages; soybeans and maize for poultry feed; and tomatoes—especially in Anloga—for a processing plant and cold storage facilities.

“The 24-Hour Economy is not just about longer work hours. It is about building highly productive, technology-driven, and sustainable local economies,” Dr. Dodoo explained.

He added that the Secretariat was working with engineers, project managers, accountants, trade unions, and industry players to align professional expertise with national development priorities.

He called on MDCEs to mobilize farmer cooperatives, facilitate access to land, and promote private sector partnerships to drive the transformation.

Mr. Moses Klu Mensah, Deputy CEO (Banking) of Ghana EXIM Bank, reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting the initiative.

He encouraged the MDCEs to collaborate with EXIM Bank for financial and technical support to develop agro-industries, industrial parks, and logistics infrastructure across the Volta Economic Corridor.

All 18 MDCEs present pledged to harness the knowledge gained from the retreat to drive investment and position the Volta Region as a key pillar of Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy.

Kudus Mohammed reveals childhood love for Hearts of Oak

Black Stars winger, Kudus Mohammed Black Stars winger, Kudus Mohammed

Black Stars midfielder, Kudus Mohammed has revealed his affection for Accra Hearts of Oak, describing the Ghanaian giants as the team he passionately supported while growing up.

The Tottenham Hotspur star, who moved to North London this summer after leaving West Ham, recalled how his elder brother would go to great lengths to secure tickets so they could watch Hearts of Oak matches at the Accra Sports Stadium..

“I supported Accra Hearts of Oak; they were my main team. My brother hustled to get money to buy a ticket so we could watch their games. It’s a pleasure for me to play in those stadiums now I’ve spent time watching the Ghana league,” Kudus told Sports Illustrated.

Don’t judge me by 90 minutes – Kudus hits back at media criticism

Hearts of Oak remain one of the most decorated clubs in African football. Founded in 1911, they have won the CAF Champions League (2000), the CAF Confederation Cup (2004), and numerous Ghana Premier League titles, cementing their place as a powerhouse in Ghana.

For Kudus, the connection with the club and the stadium is personal and symbolic. The venue where he once sat as a fan is now the stage where he represents Ghana in Black Stars colours.

Now settling into life at Spurs, Kudus has quickly become a key figure under manager Thomas Frank. Yet despite the demands of Premier League football, the 25-year-old has not lost touch with his boyhood bond with the Phobians.

‘Electrical Cables Must Meet Quality Standards’

0

Prof. George Agyei

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has stated emphatically that all electrical cables, manufactured or imported into Ghana must meet acceptable safety and quality standards.

The GSA is therefore taking steps to ensure that consumers of electrical cables in the country will find it easier to verify product quality before making a purchase.

The consumers will be equipped with mobile-friendly verification tools to allow them check the authenticity of the products in real time.

The Director General of GSA, Prof. George Agyei, disclosed this in an interview with journalists after the launch of the Digital Programme for Quality Assessment or Conformity Pilot Project in Takoradi.

He said a mobile application has been designed to help consumers assess the quality of cables produced by local manufacturers.

“We are trying to introduce a Quick Response (QR) codes on electrical products. So that a consumer can use a phone to scan and get some basic information about the products.

“We are trying to pilot the initiative with six electrical manufacturing companies in Ghana and later incorporate foreign ones,” he added.

Prof. Agyei explained that the initiative aims to protect consumers from substandard electrical cables circulating on the market.

He revealed that the Authority is getting feedback which would assist his outfit to correct some challenges with the technology before the initiative is fully implemented in 2026.

“We are still at the design stage and engaging the suppliers to see how best we can all help to resolve the challenges,” he stated.

In a related development, the GSA has begun a nationwide enforcement exercise to remove sub-standard mattresses from the market.

Prof. Agyei said the move is to protect consumers from health risks and ensure fair competition among mattress producers.

He stated that under the Ghana Standards Authority Act, 2022 (Act 1078), it is illegal to manufacture, distribute, or sell any product that does not meet the required Ghana Standard.

He has therefore appealed to consumers to always look for the GSA certification mark on mattresses before buying them.

He also urged the manufacturers, distributors, and retailers to ensure that their mattresses are certified before they are put on the market.

Galamsey fight weakened by politicians, law enforcers – Lands Minister

0

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has identified a range of factors driving illegal mining in Ghana, stressing that addressing them is key to resolving the crisis.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement on Friday, October 3, the minister said limited awareness of the environmental and health risks associated with galamsey continues to fuel its prevalence in many communities.

He added that weak enforcement of mining regulations has allowed illegal operators to thrive, while high levels of unemployment, poverty, and limited access to opportunities push many Ghanaians into illegal mining as a source of livelihood.

Mr. Buah also highlighted corruption among political actors and law enforcement agencies, noting that it undermines efforts to combat the menace.

“Law enforcement agencies and politicians who were supposed to lead the effort were all complicit,” he asserted.

Beyond Ghana’s borders, he pointed to the strong global demand for gold, driven by high international prices, as a factor incentivising illegal mining.

The minister stressed that tackling galamsey requires a multi-pronged approach that addresses both domestic shortcomings and external market forces.

Ghana better without a floating nuclear power plant

0

Dr Steve Yamoah is the Executive Director of Nuclear Power Ghana Dr Steve Yamoah is the Executive Director of Nuclear Power Ghana

The Executive Director of Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG), Dr Steve Yamoah, has dismissed proposals to introduce Russia’s Floating Nuclear Power Plant (FNPP) technology into the country, insisting that it has never been part of Ghana’s nuclear roadmap.

Speaking on the sidelines of a technical workshop, Dr Yamoah mentioned that Ghana must stay focused on its approved nuclear programme, warning that embracing untested alternatives such as the FNPP could derail the country’s ambitions and damage its international credibility.

“Ghana without a nuclear power plant is much better than Ghana with a floating nuclear power plant. The nuclear agenda is not just about electricity. It is about adding value to raw materials, creating jobs, and driving industrial growth,” he noted.

According to him, comprehensive assessments, vendor evaluations, and requests for information conducted by Ghana’s nuclear agencies have never included floating reactor technology.

He emphasised that the FNPP idea appears to be a market-driven attempt to sell electricity at unknown costs rather than a credible project for Ghana.

Dr Yamoah cautioned that pursuing such technology could undermine the country’s reputation within the global nuclear community.

Ghana considers Russian Floating Nuclear Plant for short-to medium-term power needs

“So much is expected of us as a country. If we dilute the agenda, the international community will eventually consider Ghana unserious because we don’t know what we want,” he warned.

Reaffirming NPG’s focus, he explained that the corporation’s nuclear plan is anchored on a land-based reactor that supports electricity supply, industry, knowledge transfer, and technology export.

He admitted financing remains a challenge, but assured that progress is being made to secure funds for the project.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director in charge of Alternative and Nuclear Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Dr Robert Mawuko Sogbadji, told Ghanaweb Business on the sidelines of the World Atomic Week celebration that Russia is in talks with Ghana over a possible deployment of three floating power units of 100MW each to help enhance the country’s electricity supply base.

Actress and TV host Nana Ama McBrown has urged bloggers and TikTokers to behave respectfully during the funeral of the late social media personality Osanju, set for October 4, 2025, at Atwima Koforidua School Park.

During a visit to the deceased’s family on October 2, 2025, McBrown acknowledged that some individuals may want to create content at the funeral, but she made it clear that any form of disrespect toward the grieving family would not be tolerated.

Addressing bloggers and TikTokers directly, McBrown said she has no issue with people filming, as long as they respect the privacy and space of the family and mourners.

Popular TikToker Osanju confirmed dead

“When you arrive at the funeral on Saturday, do not come and misbehave. Don’t think that just because it’s a young man’s funeral, you can push people around in your quest to record videos. You must show respect to the family,” she warned in a video sighted by GhanaWeb on TikTok.

She mentioned that anyone who crosses their boundaries would regret it, stating that she would personally confront those who disregarded her warning.

“If you know you want to record, don’t put the camera in anyone’s face. If you do that to me, I swear to God I’ll smack your phone or camera out of your hand. You can record your videos, but respect the family’s space. If you do too much, don’t try me,” McBrown added.

‘I will honour Osanju’s wishes’ – McBrown speaks on funeral plans

Elvis Frimpong, popularly known as Osanju died on September 1, 2025, after suddenly falling ill at his home in Kumasi.

He was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), but was pronounced dead on arrival.

His death shocked many, especially as he had been active online just the night before, sharing a video about Barcelona’s La Liga performance.

McBrown, who had often referred to the late TikToker as her “husband,” is expected to join mourners and friends of the late entertainer at burial on October 4, 2025.

‘Adom-Otchere wanted me to create a position for him under NDC government’ – Ato Ahwoi

Paul Adom-Otchere is a former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited Paul Adom-Otchere is a former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited

A founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ato Ahwoi, has disclosed that the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Paul Adom-Otchere, once approached him seeking a position under an NDC government.

He made this known on the October 3, 2025, edition of the Good Morning Ghana program when he called into the show to share his sentiments on issues concerning President John Dramani Mahama’s successor.

‘Keep quiet and shut your mouth’ – Ato Ahwoi jabs Paul Adom-Otchere, critics

Ahwoi stated that the former GACL board chairman once approached him, asking that a position be created for him at a certain point.

“… Paul Adom-Otchere is a person who has never found anything correct with the NDC. He is one of the people who always wants to be on the side of Akufo-Addo. I know the relationship between him and Akufo-Addo, and he, Paul knows that the things I’m talking about are correct.

‘People I thanked in video merely protested my ‘harsh’ bail conditions’ – Adom-Otchere clarifies

“This is the Paul Adom-Otchere, when NDC was in power, who came to my office and wanted me to create a position for him, but let him do the mischief that he’s trying to do. He’s on a mischief assignment and it’s not going to help him in any way, shape or form,” he disclosed.

Adom-Otchere, who was also present on the show as a panelist, responded to the claim by stating that although he used to visit Ahwoi frequently, he doesn’t recall asking him for such a favour.

‘One of the most brilliant people I ever met’ – Ato Ahwoi pays tribute to Dr Omane Boamah

“… I have friends in the NDC. I am generally a political animal, so I like to follow politics a lot. It is true that when Uncle Ato was at Church Street in those days of Mills, I would go there often with Harry (sic). I don’t remember asking him to give me a position, but yes, I visited him all the time. I will harass him for this and that and that’s also true,” he said.

In addition to the direct payment to NLA, the KGL digital lottery operation also contributed GH¢87 million in taxes to the Ghana Revenue Authority and paid out a record GH¢2 billion in winnings to Ghanaian lottery players.

The figures cement the KGL-NLA partnership as one of the most lucrative digital ventures for a state agency in Ghana, demonstrating the tangible benefits of leveraging private sector efficiency and technology for public good.

This injection highlights KGL’s partnership with the NLA in boosting revenue streams to unlock unprecedented value without bearing the associated costs and risks.

Nigeria pledges stronger ties with Ghana as it marks 65 years of Independence

0

By James Amoh Junior, GNA

Accra, Oct. 2, GNA – Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening relations with Ghana, describing the bilateral partnership as a cornerstone for peace, stability, and prosperity in West Africa, as the Federal Republic marked its 65th Independence Anniversary in Accra on Wednesday.

The celebration, hosted by the Nigeria High Commission, brought together members of the diplomatic corps, Ghanaian government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, the Nigerian community in Ghana, and friends of Nigeria.

Guests were treated to cultural displays, a documentary on Nigeria’s history and development, and an array of Nigerian delicacies, including jollof rice, which was presented with a light-hearted invitation to taste and perhaps settled the long-running jollof rivalry between the two nations.

Ambassador Moses Dayo Adeoye, Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigeria High Commission in Accra, delivering an address on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said the milestone offered both reflection and renewal of the deep bonds between Nigeria and Ghana.

He said the two countries shared not only a colonial history and a vision for Africa’s development but also people-to-people ties that had grown stronger through trade, education, culture, and migration.

“Since independence, Nigeria and Ghana have walked together through triumphs and challenges,” Ambassador Adeoye said.

He added that, “Our peoples are bound by kinship and camaraderie, and these bonds manifest daily in our markets, schools, businesses, and communities.”

Mr Adeoye emphasised Nigeria’s contribution to Ghana’s development, particularly in the energy sector, noting the importance of natural gas supply through the West African Gas Pipeline.

He said under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria remained committed to sustaining this lifeline, crucial for powering Ghanaian industries and households.

On regional security, the envoy said both nations had intensified collaboration through intelligence sharing, joint border efforts, and coordinated action against crime and terrorism.

This, he said, had not only curbed illicit networks but also enhanced safety for citizens and businesses across the sub-region.

Ambassador Adeoye also used the occasion to highlight reforms by the Tinubu administration to stabilise Nigeria’s economy, and said the removal of fuel subsidies and unification of the foreign exchange market had helped moderate inflation.

This, he stated, had dropped to 20.12 per cent in August 2025, while foreign exchange reserves had nearly doubled from $22 billion to $42 billion in a year, even after settling $7 billion in arrears.

He added that Nigeria had exceeded its OPEC production quota for consecutive months, with crude oil output averaging 1.71 million barrels per day, while non-oil exports and domestic revenue mobilisation had outperformed expectations.

Nigeria, he noted, had already achieved its 2025 revenue target by August, a sign of renewed economic momentum.

The envoy said the Federal Government had also prioritised social protection and human capital development to cushion citizens from economic reforms.

He cited the disbursement of N330 billion to over 8.1 million households under the National Social Safety Net Programme and the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which provides tuition support and stipends to students pursuing higher education.

“These measures, combined with investments in infrastructure and human capital, demonstrate Nigeria’s orientation toward inclusive growth and resilience,” he said.

Ambassador Adeoye further underscored Nigeria’s role in regional peace and security, pointing to its active participation in ECOWAS peacekeeping, counterterrorism, and mediation efforts.

“Nigeria remains committed to working with Ghana and our neighbours to secure stability and prosperity across West Africa,” he added.

Addressing Nigerians living in Ghana, the envoy praised their resilience and contributions, stressing that the country’s greatest resource was its people.

He called on Nigerians abroad to be law-abiding, uphold the country’s positive image, and embody values of hard work and unity.

“A nation of over 230 million people, endowed with immense talent and boundless passion, Nigeria’s brightest asset is its people,” he said, adding “Nigerians excel across academia, business, the arts, and innovation. Wherever we go, we shine, and we must always be ambassadors of our nation’s good name.”

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s friendship with Ghana, describing it as enduring and essential for the region’s future.

“On this 65th Independence Anniversary, we reaffirm our friendship with Ghana as a cornerstone of our regional peace and prosperity,” Ambassador Adeoye declared.

“May our cooperation continue to be guided by mutual respect, shared opportunity, and hope for a brighter future,” he added.

The Chargé d’Affaires expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Ghana for their warm hospitality and longstanding partnership with Nigeria.

He urged both countries to continue building bridges across trade, culture, and development that would benefit not only their peoples but the entire West African region.

26-year-old farmer sentenced to 30 years for armed robbery

0

The Assin Nsuaem-Kyekyewere Circuit Court in the Assin South District of the Central Region has sentenced a 26-year-old farmer, Frank Owusu, to 30 years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty on two counts of robbery and possession of a firearm without lawful authority.

Owusu pleaded guilty to both charges. He was sentenced to 30 years for robbery and two months for unlawful possession of a firearm, with the sentences to run concurrently.

The presiding judge, His Lordship Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, handed down the sentence after the prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nana George Akomeah, presented compelling evidence.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on March 28, 2025, at about 11 p.m. when the complainant, a baker named Lucy Bremah, was asleep with her two children at her residence in Assin Praso. Owusu, alias “Lifer”, armed with a locally manufactured pistol, unlawfully entered her room.

ASP Akomeah told the court that Owusu stole two mobile phones valued at GH₵250 and a pair of reading glasses worth GH₵200. He then pointed the pistol at the complainant and threatened to kill her if she did not surrender her money. Out of fear, Ms Bremah handed over GH₵3,000 in a container, after which Owusu fled.

Some tenants gave chase and confronted him at the Assin Adansi school park, managing to retrieve the pistol and the stolen phones after a struggle. However, Owusu escaped with the money.

The matter was reported to the police the next day, and Owusu was later arrested on September 27, 2025. During interrogation, he admitted to possessing the firearm and committing the robbery.

The judge expressed concern over the growing incidence of robbery in rural communities, stressing that the sentence should serve as a deterrent to others.

FIFA launches 2026 World Cup match ball

TRIONDA, the official match ball of the FIFA World Cup 2026 TRIONDA, the official match ball of the FIFA World Cup 2026

The countdown to the game-changing FIFA World Cup 26â„¢ has reached its latest significant milestone with the launch of the adidas TRIONDA, the Official Match Ball of the competition.

The name TRIONDA can be translated from Spanish as “three waves”, and, alongside other unique and innovative design features, celebrates the fact that, for the first time, three host countries – Canada, Mexico and the United States – are uniting to host the FIFA World Cupâ„¢.

This reveal builds upon other recent landmark tournament events, including the unveiling of Official Mascots, the news that FIFA will donate USD 1 to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund for every FIFA World Cup 26 ticket sold and the announcement that more than 4.5 million fans from 216 countries and territories entered the Visa Presale Draw – the first of several ticket sales phases for the eagerly anticipated event.

“The Official Match Ball for the FIFA World Cup 26 is here and it’s a beauty!” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “I am happy and proud to present TRIONDA. adidas have created another iconic FIFA World Cup ball, with the design embodying the unity and passion of next year’s host nations Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

“I can’t wait to see this beautiful ball hitting the back of the net. The countdown to the greatest FIFA World Cup ever is on – and the ball is rolling!”

The ball’s vibrant design features a red, green and blue colour scheme that pays homage to the three host countries, while a brand-new four-panel construction with fluid geometry replicates the waves referenced in the ball’s name. These panels connect to form a triangle in the centre of the ball in a nod to the historic union of the three host nations.

Iconography that represents each host country adorns the ball, with the maple leaf for Canada, an eagle for Mexico and a star for the United States, while gold embellishments pay tribute to the FIFA World Cup Trophy, underlining the significance of the stage provided by FIFA’s flagship tournament.

TRIONDA boasts several key performance innovations. The four-panel construction incorporates intentionally deep seams, creating a surface that produces optimal in-flight stability by ensuring sufficient and evenly distributed drag as the ball travels through the air. Additionally, embossed icons that are only visible up-close elevate grip when striking or dribbling the ball in wet or humid conditions.

Connected ball technology again features in the Official Match Ball of the FIFA World Cup, with a state-of-the-art 500Hz motion sensor chip delivering insight into every element of the ball’s movement. This technology sends precise data to the video assistant referee system in real time, enhancing match officials’ decision-making, including in relation to offside incidents.

TRIONDA’s arrival continues the momentum leading up to the 23rd edition of the global extravaganza and comes ahead of important international match windows in October and November, during which more nations are set to seal their berths at the tournament, and the Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup in Washington DC on Friday, 5 December 2025.
