See this rare photo of young Kwame Nkrumah and his mother

0

Despite being a revolutionary thinker and Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah always found time to connect with his family.

This rare photograph of him, shared by X user JasperZiggle on Saturday, October 4, 2025, shows Nkrumah seated beside his mother, Elizabeth Nyanibah, offering aa glimpse into the bond they shared.

Believed to have been taken in the late 1940s after his return from studies abroad, the image captures Nkrumah in a neatly tailored suit while his mother, dressed in traditional Ghanaian attire, sits gracefully at his side.

Dr Nkrumah was the 9th child of his father, a goldsmith and the only child of Elizabeth Nyanibah, a retail trader from Nkroful who often engaged him in petty trading and fish mongering.

She ensured her son never lost sight of education.

“Nyanibah was a strong woman — hardworking, gentle, yet firm. She carried her son on her back to the village school every morning when he was too small to walk the distance. She sold food in the market and used her earnings to buy him books, always reminding him,” the post accompanying the photo said.

A biography by the New York Public Library notes, “Early in his life, Nkrumah’s mother strongly insisted that he start his formal education. His father supported the idea and Nkrumah was sent to a local elementary school operated by a Roman Catholic mission. He disliked school initially but eventually developed an interest and started enjoying his lessons to the point he was always looking forward to being in school. He did well at school and became a pupil-teacher after eight years in elementary school.

“Nkrumah’s performance as a pupil-teacher was quite impressive. Thus, in 1926, he was sent to train at the Government Training College that later became the Achimota College in Accra, the present-day capital city of Ghana. He graduated from Achimota in 1930 and became a teacher at a Roman Catholic primary school in Elmina. He soon moved on to take up a headmaster position at another Roman Catholic school in the coastal town of Axim. Later on, Nkrumah also taught at a Catholic seminary at Amissano and even considered priesthood as a career.”

This rare photo is a reminder of the sacrifices of a mother who nurtured Ghana’s first president.

How Obetsebi-Lamptey journeyed from Ghana to New Zealand

0

Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey used more than a month to travel from Ghana to New Zealand Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey used more than a month to travel from Ghana to New Zealand

In today’s world, a trip from Ghana to New Zealand takes just over 8 hours. But in 1950, that same journey took more than a month! as captured in the very first issue of The Daily Graphic.

A snippet from the first issue of the newspaper published on Monday October 2, 1950 featured a report that the Hon. Emmanuel O. Obetsebi-Lamptey, one of the “Big Six” leaders of pre-independence Ghana, had embarked on a marathon voyage from the Gold Coast to New Zealand to attend a conference of the Empire Parliamentary Association.

Obetsebi-Lamptey had left his home in Accra on Saturday , September 30, taking the “first lap” of his journey to London.

From there, he was scheduled to sail by ship on October 5 and arrive in New Zealand on November 6, a full month and one day later!

The conference was to begin on November 24 and end on December 1, followed by post-conference activities until mid-December.

In his remarks before departure, Obetsebi-Lamptey noted that if he arrived in time for pre-conference sightseeing, he would still leave New Zealand by the end of November to reach London by December 28.

From there, he planned to head back to the Gold Coast just in time for the General Elections scheduled for January 1951.

His month-long journey, by air and then sea, is a reminder of how far global travel has come.

Today, what took Obetsebi-Lamptey over 30 days could be done in just 8 hours.

Yet, in 1950, such voyages were a testament to the determination of Ghana’s early leaders who carried the nation’s voice to the world, no matter how far the destination.

NDC must focus on governance, not flagbearer for 2028 – Hamza Suhuyini

0

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Hamza Suhuyini, says the party’s immediate focus must be on delivering on its promises to Ghanaians, not early competition over who will lead the NDC into the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Citi FM’s The Big Issue on Saturday, October 4, amid growing debate over succession following a new Global InfoAnalytics poll that places Haruna Iddrisu as the frontrunner to succeed President John Dramani Mahama, Suhuyini said the NDC must remain committed to governance and delivery.

“For us in the NDC, I think that the objective now is to stay true to the social contract that we signed with the good people of this country, based on which they gave us an overwhelming mandate on 7th December 2024,” he said.

“That should be the focus of any operative of the NDC, and of course His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.”

He added that President Mahama’s performance in his current term would be decisive for both his legacy and the party’s long-term political fortunes.

“His performance will go a long way to impact on our political future,” Suhuyini stated.

The latest Global InfoAnalytics poll ranks Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu as the leading contender to lead the NDC in 2028, with 30% support, followed by NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia at 24% and Finance Minister Ato Forson at 18%. Other figures, including Julius Debrah and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, trail behind.

The poll also suggests a tight race if Haruna Iddrisu does not contest, with Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson running neck and neck—particularly among core party supporters and in key swing regions.

Galamsey crisis goes beyond small-scale mining – Security expert warns

0

Security expert, Major Dr Ebenezer Kwakye Agyemang, has called for a reframing of the national conversation around illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, October 4, he warned that the scale and influence behind the practice far exceed the traditional image of small-scale “galamsey” operations.

His comments come in the wake of a high-level stakeholder engagement held at the Jubilee House on Friday, October 3, where President John Dramani Mahama met with major civil society organisations (CSOs) to discuss the persistent challenge of illegal mining and its environmental impact.

Major Dr Agyemang questioned the continued use of the term “galamsey”, arguing that it masks the true scale and sophistication of what has become a deeply entrenched, well-funded, and politically sensitive operation.

“For me, as a country, we should not even call it galamsey,” he said. “Because of the involvement of people who have power, people who have money, people who can control decisions and indeed external influence which were not known in the galamsey space.”

He pointed to the widespread use of excavators, a symbol of large-scale and often illegal operations, as evidence that illegal mining is no longer dominated by artisanal workers but is instead being driven by powerful interests.

“For example, how many people can procure a single excavator? If you do the last count based on data available, at least more than 5,000 excavators are in Ghana,” he stated.

“And they are not on the roads, they are not in the registered mining companies but elsewhere working for people who are lining their pockets with proceeds from such activity.”

He stressed that this level of industrial-scale illegality highlights the depth of the challenge and demands a far more robust and honest national response.

Dan Drizzy’s “R2BEES”: Ghana’s rising star redefines Afrobeats ambition

0

Dan Drizzy Photo

In the ever-expanding soundscape of Afrobeats and African urban music, Ghanaian-Nigerian artist, Dan Drizzy, is carving a lane that’s both unapologetically street and undeniably global. His new EP, “R2BEES (Refuse to Be Broke)”, is more than a record; it’s a manifesto of survival, defiance, and self-made ambition. Listen here: https://waverlymusik.lnk.to/R2BEESEP

Blending West African grit with the fluidity of R&B, Dancehall, Afroswing, and Hip-Hop, “R2BEES” captures the mindset of an artist determined to transcend limits. It is the voice of a generation that has weathered betrayal, poverty, and doubt, and turned them into fuel for something greater.

Dan Drizzy’s versatility makes “R2BEES” a project that resonates beyond Ghana’s borders. On ‘Can’t Kill a Man (CKAM)’, he blends Afroswing bounce with Dancehall-rooted drums and silky R&B melodies, a defiant anthem declaring that no obstacle can break his spirit.

‘Thy Kingdom Come’, with Ghanaian heavyweight Yaa Pono and DJ Perbi, offers a spiritual yet celebratory anthem of faith and loyalty, a song as fitting in Accra’s streets as on a global playlist. ‘10,000 Men’ leans into Reggae-infused Afro-rhythms, combining prayer-like introspection with a war cry for resilience, echoing a sound deeply rooted in African struggle and uplift.

‘We$t $ide Boy$’ delivers swagger and groove, celebrating the rise of a new generation of West African dreamers who live large without apology. ’Throwback’ dives into personal battles with frenemies and doubt, transforming pain into confidence and a bold declaration of survival.

‘Sariki’, featuring Nigerian legend Duncan Mighty and Ghana’s Spl Daddy, expands the project into a continental conversation, a declaration of kingship, street legacy, and cultural pride that bridges Ghana and Nigeria.

For Drizzy, “R2BEES” is not just about refusing poverty, but it’s about refusing limitations. “It’s about more than money,” he explains. “It’s about resilience, building a legacy, and defining myself on my own terms.”

With “R2BEES”, Dan Drizzy proves he is more than a rising act. He’s part of a wave of African artists pushing boundaries, refusing to be boxed in, and carrying the sounds of the continent to the world stage.

Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah is the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah is the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources

Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has declared that Ghana’s war against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, cannot be won with violence but through a strategic and people-centered approach.

Addressing civil society organisations and key stakeholders at a high-level meeting convened by President John Mahama, the minister presented disturbing images of destroyed forest reserves and polluted rivers, evidence of the devastation caused by illegal miners.

Rejecting calls for a “shoot-to-kill” crackdown, Mr. Buah insisted that sustainable victory lies not in the barrel of a gun but in changing hearts and minds.

“The galamsey fight cannot be won by guns,” he said emphatically.

Adding that, “We must speak to the soul of the people so they truly understand the irreversible damage they are causing.”

Semenyo overtakes Yeboah to become Ghana’s second-highest scorer in Premier League history

0

Antoine Semenyo has surpassed Tony Yeboah to become Ghana’s second-highest scorer in Premier League history after his sensational brace for Bournemouth in their 3-1 comeback win over Fulham on Friday night.

The 25-year-old moved two goals clear of the Leeds United cult hero with his 25th and 26th Premier League goals at a wet Vitality Stadium, taking his tally for the season to six.

Only Erling Haaland (8) has scored more league goals than Semenyo this season. With his assist on the night, he now ranks just behind Jack Grealish in assists, having registered three so far.

Semenyo has featured in 88 Premier League matches — 41 more than Yeboah, who played 47 times across three seasons for Leeds United.

Meanwhile, the Bournemouth forward’s 26 goals leave him 16 behind Ghana’s all-time top Premier League scorer, Jordan Ayew, who has netted 42 goals in 305 appearances over 11 seasons.

Semenyo averages a goal every three Premier League matches, while Ayew requires more than seven games to find the net.

In fourth place is Jeffrey Schlupp, the only Ghanaian in the top five to have won the Premier League title.

The 2016 champion with Leicester City has scored 22 goals in 280 appearances — just one more than Ghana’s Black Stars’ most capped player, André Ayew.

Mahama’s galamsey meeting a diversion from State of Emergency calls

0

Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Lands and Natural Resources Committee, Akwasi Konadu, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama for using his engagement with CSOs to divert the demand for a state of emergency to end illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey

Speaking on Eyewitness news on Friday, October 3, 2025, Mr Konadu said that the meeting with the CSOs, which he calls “a meeting with praise singers”, was to divert attention from its fundamental failure to tackle the galamsey menace

“He called praise singers just to come and quench the demand for the declaration of a state of emergency and a proper effort at tackling and eliminating illegal mining activity called galamsey, as he told us when he was an opposition leader.

“What exactly did he say that would have been different or contributed or will contribute to the fight against galamsey activities in this country none. Everything that he said was a way to divert attention from the effort that he has not put in,” he said.

President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, October 3 2025, hosted a high-level meeting with civil society organisations (CSOs) and key stakeholders to discuss sustainable solutions to the devastation caused by illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

The meeting provides a platform for stakeholders to share perspectives and propose strategies to complement ongoing government efforts to curb the menace.

Actor Tyrese Gibson arrested over dog attack that left neighbour’s pet dead

Fast & Furious star Tyrese Gibson arrested over dog attack that left neighbour’s pet dead

Hollywood actor and R&B singer Tyrese Gibson has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after one of his Cane Corso dogs allegedly mauled a neighbour’s pet to death in Atlanta.

The 46-year-old star, best known for playing Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious franchise, turned himself in on Friday morning, October 4, at Fulton County Jail. He was officially booked around 6 a.m. and later released on a $20,000 bond.

According to police, the incident happened on September 18 in the Buckhead area of Atlanta while Tyrese was away from home. A neighbour’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was reportedly killed in the attack, with authorities linking one of Tyrese’s four Cane Corsos to the fatal mauling.

The actor had previously been warned multiple times about letting his dogs roam off-leash, officials said.

Following the tragedy, Tyrese rehomed all four of his dogs and, through his lawyer, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased pet. His attorney also stressed that Tyrese has been fully cooperating with investigators and will continue to do so until the case is resolved.

Police, however, maintain that his negligence directly led to the death of the smaller dog, with Captain Nicole Dwyer confirming that all four of Tyrese’s dogs are to be handed over to the authorities as part of the ongoing case.

The arrest has stirred reactions online, with many shocked that the star — who recently spoke publicly about taking a “mental health break” and even travelled to Dubai — is now facing legal troubles back home.

Tyrese, who rose to fame as a singer before becoming a Hollywood regular, has yet to personally address the case.

Government urged to reform prisoners to support fight against galamsey

0

By Elizabeth Larkwor Baah, GNA

Tema, Oct. 04, GNA – Dr Worlanyo Mensah, an Economist, has called on the government to adopt innovative reforms within Ghana’s prison system, to help address the illegal mining (galamsey) menace.

Dr Mensah argued that the country could tap into the knowledge and skills of inmates if proper policies were introduced to rehabilitate and reintegrate them into society.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the prisons were places of reformation, and many inmates possessed valuable skills in information technology and other technical fields which, if harnessed, could be directed into productive national service.

He noted that the government could introduce structured training programmes that could provide inmates with employable skills, especially in areas such as environmental management, reclamation of mined lands, and digital monitoring of mining activities.

Dr Mensah said by so doing, prisoners would not only gain practical experiences but also contribute to curbing the destruction of water bodies and forests caused by galamsey.

He suggested that reformed prisoners could be deployed in supervised national projects aimed at restoring degraded lands; therefore, training and paying were important, saying, “When prisoners realise the state is committed to their training and welfare, they will not run away.”

Dr Mensah emphasised that such reforms would not only benefit the nation but also reduce the rate of reoffending among ex-convicts, pointing out that when inmates acquired useful skills and were engaged in meaningful employment after serving their sentences, their likelihood of returning to crime would be less.

He reiterated that illegal mining continued to pose serious environmental, economic, and social challenges to Ghana, threatening water security and the livelihoods of thousands of citizens; hence, the need for a multi-dimensional approach.

0

Savannah Sonics Logo
Savannah Sonics Logo

Savannah Sonics is crafting a new paradigm under the intensity of the blazing northern sun. It’s challenging the status quo and setting bold new standards for how artists in the Northern Region are represented in music nationwide.

In the heart of Ghana’s Northern Region, a new rhythm is rising. It’s sweeping over the country in a powerful wave of musical synergy. Behind this daring movement is Savannah Sonics, a young record label based in Tamale. The team is sparking a creative revival poised to reshape how Northern talent is seen and celebrated through collaborations. Unlike traditional record labels that focus on signing talent, Savannah Sonics is making a name for itself by forging partnerships and collaborations with local artists.

It doesn’t take a discerning listener to notice Northern-made music has long been underrepresented in Ghana’s mainstream. But a group of regional creatives and entrepreneurs decided it was time to intervene. United by a shared vision to spotlight their region’s creative potential and indigenous musical styles, Savannah Sonics was founded in 2024 by Mubarak Kassim.

“For years, artists from the Northern Region have struggled for visibility in mainstream Ghanaian music conversations, which is unfortunate,” a spokesperson from the label shared. “There is a uniqueness here that deserves to be amplified. We made it our mission to facilitate powerful collaborations among regional stars, mainly to reflect the vibrant community we have here and showcase their exciting stories and ingenuity.”

In less than a year, Savannah Sonics’ vision has cultivated a thriving space for emerging local talent. Releases such as 2024’s ‘Trap Prayer,’ featuring Ntelabi, Gingsen, and Ricch Kid, and ‘Good Times,’ featuring Zizi, Gingsen, and Ntelabi, followed by 2025’s ‘Biem,’ featuring singer Wiz Child, and ‘Tas Tas,’ featuring Wiz Child, Gingsen, and Ntelabi, have gained traction on streaming platforms and radio stations nationwide. And with more releases underway, the movement is quickly becoming a beacon of Northern pride.

Through music collaborations, Savannah Sonics hopes to propel a new wave of Northern artists into the mainstream. The label is investing in innovative production techniques and strategic marketing to give regional stars a much-needed edge in Ghana’s vibrant music industry. As their spokesperson reiterates, “Our vision isn’t just about making hits. It’s also about empowerment, cultural preservation, and of course, legacy.”

“See How Adom Kyei Duah Boldly Condemned Otumfuo Over Mustapha’s Beatings — Story Shocks Ghanaian

News Hub Creator1d

A heated storm has erupted after a viral video surfaced showing Adom Kyei Duah openly condemning the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, over the alleged beatings of a man identified as Mustapha.

In the footage, Kyei Duah did not mince words, accusing Otumfuo of “failing to intervene” and allowing injustice to prevail. He argued that as the custodian of Ashanti tradition and authority, the Asantehene should never remain silent when one of his people suffers such humiliation.

The passionate condemnation has divided Ghanaian. While some hailed Kyei Duah as brave for speaking truth to power, others blasted him for being disrespectful to the Golden Stool and the revered Asantehene.

Social media has since exploded with reactions, with the phrase “Mustapha’s Beatings” trending on multiple platforms as people demand clarity on what exactly happened to the victim.

For now, neither Otumfuo’s palace nor any official spokesperson has responded to Kyei Duah’s comments. But the debate continues to rage, leaving many to wonder: will this bold attack spark a confrontation, or force traditional authorities to speak out?

Do you think Adom Kyei Duah was right to condemn Otumfuo publicly?

Video Shows Beautiful Four-Lane Road Where Akufo Addo’s Statue Once Stood In Takoradi

0

A new video on social media has shown how beautiful the road looks at the place where a statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was once built in Takoradi.

The video captures the Effia-Nkwanta – Sekondi road, which is now almost fully completed and has changed the look of the area.

The road project was started under President Akufo-Addo’s government to improve movement between Sekondi and Takoradi. It also made access to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital much easier for drivers and pedestrians.

To honour the then President for completing the project, some residents decided to build a statue of him at the roundabout near the hospital.

The statue was officially unveiled on November 6, 2024, during Akufo-Addo’s visit to the Western Region as part of his “Thank You Tour.”

The pedestal of the statue carried an inscription that read: “Thank you from Western Region. H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana. 6th November 2024.”

Sadly, the statue faced several challenges. In December 2024, part of the statue’s leg got damaged but was later repaired. However, on the night of January 12–13, 2025, unknown persons completely destroyed it.

The head was cut off, and other pieces were scattered around the area. The act angered many residents, and the police began investigations, but no one has been held responsible so far. Since then, the statue has not been rebuilt.

The new video shows a neat and smooth four-lane road meeting at the roundabout where the statue once stood. The area looks very modern and organized, with many people praising the quality of the roadwork. Drivers say the smooth road has made travel easier and safer.

While many viewers online are impressed by how beautiful the road looks now, some feel sad that the statue is no longer there to honour the former President for the project. The empty space at the centre of the roundabout serves as a reminder of the statue that once stood there.

TMA declares public installations as security zone

0

By Laudia Sawer, GNA

Tema, Oct. 04, GNA – Madam Ebi Bright, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, has directed the declaration of public installations and places as security zones.

This was contained in an explanatory note on the enforcement of development control issued to assembly members by the MCE and available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

“The Mayor has directed that all schools, hospitals, security installations, government premises and environs, and service utility corridors be declared Security Zones,” it stated.

The move, according to the TMA, meant, no temporary structures (kiosks, containers, etc.) were permitted along the fence walls, buffer areas, corridors, or access routes of these facilities.

This forms part of a comprehensive eight-month plan to reorganise temporal structures in the metropolis in line with the MCE’s agenda to restore order in Tema, improve safety, and protect the livelihood of traders.

It stated that the zones were important because they would ensure children’s safety and help to shorten the response time for emergencies.

“The Assembly is acting under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), Sections 94-97 & 106, which empower Assemblies to stop and demolish unauthorised development. The Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016 (Act 925) and the Regulations, 2019 (L.I. 2384) grant authority to enforce zoning, buffer zones, and public safety requirements. TMA Bye Laws (2018 & 2019) prohibit obstruction, nuisance, and unlicensed trading structures.”

The TMA explained that even schools must remain safe learning environments; temporary structures around fence walls created congestion and served as hiding spots for criminal activity, which distracted teaching and learning.

According to the assembly, hospitals and clinics must be reachable by ambulance, fire service, and emergency responders, therefore, temporary structures along their perimeter walls block access routes and endanger lives.

Encroachment, the assembly stated, made it difficult to protect lives and properties in times of emergency, stressing that assembly offices, courts, and civil service facilities must remain accessible to serve the public, and encroachment undermines the dignity and efficient operation of these institutions.

“High-tension poles, transformers, water pipelines, sewage systems, and underground telecom/fibre lines are considered critical infrastructure. The siting of temporary structures near this infrastructure exposes people to all forms of health hazards, such as contamination, fire, electrocution, etc., and also causes a disruption in the provision of essential services.

These buffer zones must remain clear from all forms of encroachment to provide for uninhibited access in the case of any eventuality.”

National Sanitation Day marked nationwide amid calls for accountability

0

Ghana’s observance of National Sanitation Day has reignited national conversations around civic responsibility, leadership accountability, and the urgent need for a cultural shift in environmental cleanliness.

Leading the charge in the Eastern Region is its Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, who personally joined a desilting exercise in Koforidua’s central business district.

She called on all 33 Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region to make sanitation a top priority, warning that cleanliness will now serve as a key performance indicator in evaluating their effectiveness.

Flanked by the New Juaben South MCE, Ransford Owusu Boakye, they supervised the clearing of choked drains, urging the public, technocrats, and civil servants to support the government’s sanitation drive.

A similar scene is playing out in the Greater Accra Region, where in Ablekuma West, the MP Rev. Kweku Addo, and MCE George Kpakpo Allotey are present for a community clean-up.

In the Northern Region, the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive also led a clean-up exercise alongside the Municipal Coordinating Director, security agencies, and party members.

However, citizen participation remain noticeably low, raising concerns about public apathy toward such national initiatives.

Gold-for-Oil Programme led to losses, deserves further investigation – Bright Simons

0

Vice President of IMANI Africa, Bright Simons, has shed light on Ghana’s controversial Gold-for-Oil programme, explaining how its conception and execution deviated from sound economic logic and ultimately resulted in financial losses to the state.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Mr. Simons provided a detailed analysis of how the policy was designed to stabilise the Cedi and reduce pressure on Ghana’s foreign reserves, but instead created inefficiencies that warrant further scrutiny and possible prosecution.

He explained that Ghana’s fuel consumption has been rising sharply over the years, yet weak industrial policy has prevented the country from refining its own crude oil.

Despite having two major refineries, neither operates at full capacity, forcing Ghana to spend between $250 million and $400 million monthly importing refined fuel.

He said this dependency created pressure on the local currency, prompting government officials in 2021 and 2022 to propose the Gold-for-Oil scheme as an innovative alternative.

The idea, he explained, was to use domestically purchased gold, paid for in Cedis, to acquire oil directly, bypassing the need for dollars and thereby easing pressure on the Cedi.

“The logic was that since we mine gold locally and can buy it in Cedis, we could use the gold to acquire oil without demanding dollars. The expectation was that this would moderate pressure on the currency,” he explained.

However, Mr. Simons noted that the model only makes sense if the gold-for-oil barter produces a better rate than selling gold for dollars and then buying oil with those dollars, something that, he argued, was never economically justified.

“The barter model would only make sense if you could show that trading gold directly for oil gives you a more favourable rate than selling gold for dollars and using those dollars to buy oil. That was never demonstrated,” he said.

He stated that the flawed implementation of the policy, coupled with poor oversight and lack of transparency, contributed to inefficiencies and financial losses that must now be examined.

“The programme’s structure and execution created conditions for losses that could have been avoided. These are material losses to the state that deserve investigation,” he stressed.

Media personality Genevieve Abrefa Yeboah, popularly known as Oheneni Adazoa, has sparked a conversation among netizens with a bold statement she made on social media.

In a video shared on X on October 3, 2025, Oheneni Adazoa advised men not to pursue jobless and uneducated women.

She explained that men should also raise their standards when entering into a relationship since they also deserve better.

“Men should listen to me because this part is also essential. Don’t go in for a lady who doesn’t have anything for herself. Don’t date a lady who is not educated, jobless, and broke.

‘They laughed at me for wanting to adopt’ – Oheneni Adazoa speaks

“Such women have a lot of burden. When her mother is sick, you will take care of her. In fact, her family burden will be on you,” she said.

Oheneni further noted that men should not pursue women solely for their beauty, as it fades with age.

“If they have made up their minds not to go in for broke guys, you people should also not go in for them. Don’t settle with a woman because of her beauty. You also deserve the best.

“It is equally good for a man to marry an educated and wealthy woman,” she added.

‘Fine event, ruined by propaganda’ – Miracles tackles Mahama after CSO meeting

Miracles Aboagye (L) accused President Mahama (R) of hiding data on 35 polluted water bodies Miracles Aboagye (L) accused President Mahama (R) of hiding data on 35 polluted water bodies

Former presidential staffer and spokesperson for former vice-president Dr Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has accused the government of selectively publishing data about Ghana’s water bodies while concealing the true scale of the crisis.

In a post made on X on October 3, 2025, Aboagye noted that the Water Resources Commission has monitored 41 water bodies since 2005, yet only 6 of them were highlighted, leaving the remaining 35, which, he claims, are in a worse condition.

“All you have done is invite others to prove to you that, out of the 41 water bodies being tracked by the water resources commission, 35 of them are in a worse situation now than in the past, and that is why you refuse to show the data,” he wrote.

He claimed that there is a rising contamination in the Ayensu River, where turbidity jumped from 14,000 NTU in 2024 to 94,000 NTU currently.

He also dismissed claims that turbidity alone defines quality, stressing that water quality indices, which combine multiple measures, are the proper gauge.

“The central region is in crisis as we speak, the turbidity level in the Ayensu River has risen from 14,000 NTU in 2024 to 94,000 NTU as at now. Why isn’t that part of the rivers you displayed today?

“Water turbidity levels are not the measure for water quality. The true measure of water quality is the WATER QUALITY index which uses turbidity levels, nutrients and two other elements to determine the purity of the water levels,” he added.

Aboagye accused the government of engaging in propaganda, saying that spotlighting only the six better-off rivers is a deliberate attempt to mislead the populace.

He also renewed calls for the government to fulfil its anti-galamsey promises and curb mining destruction, especially in regions like the Central Region, which he said is already in crisis.

“Nice stakeholder engagement organised, very progressive conversation and then out of no where “boom” you start mounting pressure on your own selves about some progress you claim you are making even in the face of contrary facts.

“The attempt by this government to use 6 water bodies out of 41 to gaslight the entire country is not only laughable but unnecessary. Fine event but they are spoiling it with propaganda. I mean how??” he wrote.

His intervention comes in the wake of a high-profile meeting between President John Mahama and civil society organizations (CSOs) on October 3, in Accra to address illegal mining and environmental concerns.

AFC Bournemouth fans were treated to a rollercoaster evening at the Vitality Stadium as the Cherries came from behind to secure a 3-1 win over Fulham, powered by the inspirational Antoine Semenyo.

Fulham broke the deadlock in the 70th minute when Ryan Sessegnon finished a slick move orchestrated by Chukwueze. But the home crowd’s anxiety lasted just eight minutes.

Semenyo pulled Bournemouth level with a sensational effort from a tight angle, threading the ball through Leno’s legs in the 78th minute.

Momentum shifted, and it was Semenyo again making the difference, this time providing for Justin Kluivert, whose stunning solo run and long-range strike gave Bournemouth a 2-1 lead.

With Fulham pushing desperately for an equaliser in stoppage time, Bournemouth struck on the counter: Gannon-Doak charged upfield and laid it on a plate for Semenyo to fire past Leno, sealing all three points in the dying moments.

Antoine Semenyo has played seven games, scored six goals, and assisted three in the Premier League this season.

AFC Bournemouth will play Crystal Palace on October 18 at Selhurst Park.

Alleged Photo Of Apostle John Prah And Son Sparks Speculation Online

News Hub Creator1h

A recent photograph featuring veteran Ghanaian actor and Apostle John Prah alongside a younger man in a barbershop has ignited intense speculation across social media platforms regarding the man’s identity. The image, which shows Apostle Prah and the man posing side-by-side, quickly became a focal point of online discussion, with many suggesting a familial relationship.

The unverified claim that the younger man is Apostle Prah’s son has driven the commentary, with users pointing to the resemblance and the casual nature of the photo as evidence. The younger man is believed by some commenters to be a celebrity barber, while others suggest he might be Ghanaian musician Fameye, further complicating the narrative. Regardless of his professional identity, the visible tattoos on the young man in the photo have prompted a separate layer of dialogue among the audience, particularly those who associate a strict conservative outlook with a man of Apostle Prah’s religious standing.

Furthermore, a significant portion of the online discourse has centered on the nature of the relationship, with numerous users suggesting that a DNA test should be conducted to definitively confirm or deny the paternity claim. Other reactions focus on a simple paternal responsibility, urging the actor to take care of the young man irrespective of the alleged biological link. The incident highlights the rapidity with which unverified personal information spreads and dominates public conversation in the digital age. As of now, neither Apostle John Prah nor the individual in the photo has officially commented on the widespread speculation.

Familiarity and fear of change fuelling Bawumia’s dominance – Mussa Dankwah

0

The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has offered insight into why former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is enjoying a commanding lead over his rivals in the race to become the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.

In an interview on Citi FM’s The Big Issue on Saturday October 4, following the release of the latest Global InfoAnalytics tracking poll, Dankwah pointed to two key factors behind Bawumia’s dominance: his long-standing presence in NPP politics and the conservative nature of the party’s delegate base.

“I will pin this down to two factors,” Dankwah explained. “One, Bawumia has been the face of NPP since 2008. He’s been on every election ticket since then. So he is the familiar face for many people. That makes it easier for him to be organised and more likely for people to want him back on the ticket.”

The poll shows Bawumia leading the NPP presidential race with 57% support among general voters, compared to 29% for his closest contender, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong. Other aspirants trail significantly behind, with Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum at 6%, Dr. Bryan Acheampong at 5%, and Kwabena Agyapong at 3%.

Dankwah also noted that age and tradition play a crucial role in how NPP delegates make decisions.

“The NPP delegates are conservatives. They are much older people, and the older you are, the less vibrant and dynamic and change-oriented you tend to be,” he said. “These people want to go with what they know, and they kind of dominate the NPP.”

According to the poll, Bawumia leads among NPP delegates with 47%, while Kennedy Agyapong stands at 17%. A significant 27% remain undecided, a potential opening for Agyapong’s campaign — but only if he can shift mindsets.

“If Kennedy wants to make an impact, he has to drive home a message that challenges this status quo and changes the mindset of these voters,” Dankwah said.

In key battleground regions such as Greater Accra, Central, and Western, Bawumia continues to hold a strong lead, polling at 57% compared to Agyapong’s 32%. In a potential runoff between the two, the margin widens further — Bawumia would secure 62% of the vote against Agyapong’s 38%.

As the NPP’s internal contest heats up, Dankwah’s analysis provides a window into the deeper currents shaping voter behavior — from name recognition to the role of entrenched conservatism within the party ranks.

Charles Owiredu and Bridget Otoo Charles Owiredu and Bridget Otoo

Media personality cum Presidential Staffer, Bridget Otoo has taken a swipe at the Member of Parliament for Abirem, Charles Owiredu, over a post he made concerning President Mahama’s decision to declare a state of emergency over galamsey.

Recently, during his engagement with Civil Society Organisations on October 3, 2025, President Mahama had stated that he would only declare a state of emergency on the galamsey crisis upon recommendation by the National Security Council.

Reacting to this, Charles Owiredu, in a post on X, shared a list of the members of the council made up of some cabinet ministers and director of security services.

However, Bridget Otoo, in reply to Owiredu’s post, stated that the MP has no mandate or moral standing to advise President John Mahama, especially given what she described as his past silence during the Nana Akufo-Addo administration.

Galamsey Fight: ‘We won’t leave poisoned rivers for our children’ – President Mahama

She recalled how Owiredu had previously labelled aspects of Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report as “hearsay” during the previous government, implying inconsistency in his approach.

“Without overstating the obvious, you had the opportunity and you failed to use your voice under Nana Addo. You called Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s report “hearsay,” she said.

She warned that under Mahama, criticisms and advice are welcomed, but that does not mean everyone is fit to offer them.

“So you are in no capacity to advice him on what to do. and yes maybe under Nana Addo, he didn’t listen to his advisors cos he appointed them, but this is John Mahama, who welcomes and takes his harshest critics very seriously. Takes expert opinion seriously! He would act when all other options have been exhausted so sit this one out!” she wrote.

Tomato sellers dispute Agric Minister’s claims of falling prices

0

Traders in several markets in Accra have dismissed claims by the Food and Agriculture Minister Eric Opoku that food prices — particularly tomatoes — are declining.

The Minister attributed recent reductions to government policies and bumper harvests. Official figures support his position, with the Ghana Statistical Service reporting that food inflation, which was over 26 percent in March, dropped to 14.8 percent in August and further declined to 11 percent in September. Overall inflation has also eased to 9 percent — the lowest in more than three years.

Mr. Opoku said the gains were the result of bumper harvests and targeted interventions.

However, some traders insist that the reality on the ground is more complex. Tomato sellers, in particular, strongly disagreed with the Minister’s assertion, saying their prices remain high despite the official statistics.

“Tomatoes are currently very expensive, with a box selling for about GHC2,200. If it is true that there is an excess of tomatoes in Kumasi, then that supply has not made its way to Accra,” one seller said.

Another trader explained that while prices fluctuate, the trend has been upward.

“At times, the price is a bit affordable, but in the past two weeks, it has gone up. Customers keep saying there is abundance, yet the box used to measure quantity has been reduced,” she lamented.

Suppliers also questioned the claim of surplus, maintaining that if there were truly excess tomatoes in Kumasi, suppliers would have brought them to Accra.

The tomatoes currently on the market are transported from Ada and the Volta Region.

However, onions told a slightly different story. Onion seller Abigail Teye said she avoids local onions altogether, since its usually of low quality, rot easily and are not preferred by customers.

Other sellers, however, admitted that prices of onions have eased since they patronise local produce.

“Onion prices in general have reduced this year. Last year [2025], a bag was selling at around GHC3,200. But now it goes for between GHC1,000 and GHC1,800 cedis, depending on the market. This is because of the large harvest,” An onion wholesaler said.

Maize, a staple in most households, has also seen significant drops from 1,400 cedis to about 900 cedis.

The traders credit the government interventions and call for the introduction of more to drive prices further down.

At a rice shop, prices of even imported brands had inched down slightly, though traders believe this is due to the reduction in the cedi-dollar rate.

Dormaahene speaks after John Mahama’s appointment

Agyemang Badu II, also known as Daniel Mensah (real name before his enthronement in 1999), has served as a High Court judge in Ghana for many years and presided over several high-profile cases, including the bail application for activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor in 2022.

The Dormaahene deemed his new role a huge responsibility as he reflected on John Dramani Mahama’s expectations of the new judges.

During an interview after the ceremony, the Dormaahene weighed in on the menace of illegal mining (galamsey) and John Mahama’s efforts in combating it.

The new Court of Appeals judge praised John Dramani Mahama’s efforts and established that the menace has reduced since the president took office this year.

He further acknowledged that any declaration of a state of emergency on galamsey, as promised by John Mahama, before winning the election, was thus unnecessary.

The President, during his first media encounter on September 10, stated he would only declare a state of emergency on galamsey when it becomes necessary.

Fuel stations and galamsey fight

0

Fuel suppliers are not just service providers — they are enablers of a growing national security threat.

In a previous report based on field studies in three communities across different regions, I called for Ghana’s small-scale illegal gold mining (SSIGM) sector – commonly referred to as galamsey – to be reclassified as a transnational organised criminal enterprise.

That recommendation still stands. However, today I want to draw attention to a neglected but critical enabler of this crisis: fuel stations and their agents. Without their involvement, much of the illegal mining industry would not be able to operate at its current state and scale.

Across the country, more than 5,000 excavators—along with Chang fa machines, water pumps, air compressors, and power generators—are used daily in illegal mining operations. These machines require a constant supply of fuel, oils, and lubricants (FOL) to function, often running for a minimum of eight hours a day.

Many of the excavators are leased from mining contractors or owners—mostly foreign nationals, particularly Chinese and Indian actors, though increasingly, Ghanaians are also involved. Regardless of ownership, the fuel that powers these machines is largely supplied through informal and unregulated means.

Some fuel stations accept cash. Others accept gold directly or operate on a barter or credit system based on agreed fuel-gold conversion rates. In such arrangements, fuel station operators are no longer passive sellers.

They become accomplices, financiers, and logistical backbones of an activity that is devastating our environment and undermining national security.

And yet, discussions on illegal mining have largely focused on miners and excavator owners—while fuel station operators remain absent from the conversation.

Time for Accountability and Reform

To disrupt the operations of illegal mining, the state must act on this critical supply chain. This includes policy reforms and stronger enforcement backed by intelligence to hold fuel stations accountable.

I propose the following measures:

License Revocation: Fuel stations found to be supplying SSIGM operations must face penalties, including suspension or permanent revocation of their licenses.

Ban Bulk Sales in Containers: The sale of diesel and other fuels in canisters, gallons, drums, or makeshift tankers should be banned or tightly regulated, especially in illegal mining hotspots.

Targeted Surveillance: While it may be impossible to deploy security officers to every station, targeted surveillance in high-risk areas—backed by intelligence—can be an effective deterrent.

These are not extreme proposals. They are necessary responses to a national crisis that has evolved far beyond the control of the traditional enforcement paradigm. Without urgent action, illegal mining will continue to destroy farmlands, pollute rivers, and erode the very foundations of our national development.

The State Must Act

The sale of fuel is not an innocent transaction when its end use is the destruction of the country’s ecological systems. Those who supply fuel to illegal miners—particularly on a barter basis—must be recognised as part of the criminal network sustaining galamsey.

The time has come for fuel station owners and their agents to be brought into the national dialogue on illegal mining. They are no longer invisible actors. Their role is too central to ignore.

A deliberate clampdown on fuel supplies to illegal mining sites could significantly reduce operational capacity. This is a low-hanging fruit in the broader fight against galamsey—and we cannot afford to overlook it any longer.

Ghana : Cocoa Price Hike for 2025/26 Season

Ghana, the world’s second-largest cocoa producer, announced on Thursday, 3 September 2025, a 12.3% increase in the price paid to cocoa farmers for the 2025/26 season. The price rises from 3,228.75 to 3,625 cedis per 64 kg bag (58,000 cedis per ton, €3.92/kg). The measure aims to improve farmers’ income despite global cocoa prices stabilizing around $7,000/ton. The government also continues support programs, including free agricultural inputs and scholarships for cocoa farmers’ children.

Reactions as Nacee’s anti-galamsey song unveiled at Mahama’s meeting with CSOs

Nacee released the song on October 3, 2025 Nacee released the song on October 3, 2025

During the Civil Society Organisations (CSO) engagement with President Mahama on October 3, 2025, the meeting had a brief pause for a musical interlude, but it wasn’t an ordinary performance; it was an official anti-galamsey song composed by gospel artiste Nacee.

The new song entitled “Stop Galamsey Now,” and its accompanying music video were officially premiered publicly at the engagement.

The song serves as a clarion call against illegal mining, spotlighting its devastating impact on rivers, forests, and the health of citizens.

In the video, viewers saw images of poisoned waters and scarred forests, a visual testimony to the environmental harm caused by galamsey.

The soulful song contained the chorus “Stop galamsey now, save Mother Ghana,” and “Let’s stop galamsey now, let’s save our motherland Ghana.”

Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb on October 4, 2025, Nacee highlighted the song not just as art, but as an advocacy to every Ghanaian.

“When we rise together, change happens. This campaign is for every Ghanaian who believes in a cleaner, brighter, and safer tomorrow,” he wrote.

Meanwhile Nacee’s “Stop Galamsey Now” song has been viewed as the government’s official anti-galamsey anthem.

Dr Joshua Jebuntie Zaato is a Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana Dr Joshua Jebuntie Zaato is a Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana

A Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Joshua Jebuntie Zaato, has raised concerns over the omission of Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang from the latest Global Info Analytics poll on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer race.

Speaking on TV3’s Keypoints on October 4, 2025, Dr Zaato questioned the research methodology, especially given the popularity of President John Dramani Mahama.

“Why is the President so popular in the party, and the Vice President is not popular? Why was she not polled?” Dr Zaato asked.

Prior to Dr Zaato’s comments, Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, had explained the criteria for the poll.

47% for Bawumia, 17% for Ken: Breakdown of latest Info Analytics poll on NPP delegates

He clarified that the survey was limited to four personalities, Haruna Iddrisu, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Julius Debrah, and Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, because they were the only ones who had scored 10 percent or more in the firm’s tracking polls.

“You and I have an opinion, and that opinion in the NDC, these guys are potential candidates. What we have done is to pick the four names that score 10 per cent in our tracking polls, Asiedu Nketia, Julius Debrah, Haruna Iddrisu and Ato Forson,” Dankwah stated.

The Global Info Analytics poll, released earlier this week, showed Haruna Iddrisu leading the pack to lead the NDC with 30%. He is followed by Johnson Asiedu Nketia with 24%.

The results for the other key personalities are: Dr Cassiel Ato Forson – 18%, Julius Debrah -10%.

Government has increased producer price from GH¢3,228.75 per 64kg to GH¢3,628.75 Government has increased producer price from GH¢3,228.75 per 64kg to GH¢3,628.75

The Cocoa, Coffee and Sheanut Farmers Association has expressed appreciation to the government and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) for the increment of the producer price from GH¢3,228.75 per 64kg to GH¢3,628.75 per 64kg for the 2025/2026 cocoa season.

This gives farmers an additional increment of GH¢400.00.

In a statement signed by Alhaji Alhassan Bukari, National Chief Farmer, on behalf of the National Executive Committee and the entire members of the Association, the Association said the increment in price marked a notable improvement and affirmed the government’s willingness to listen to the legitimate concerns of farmers across the country.

The Association also commended COCOBOD and the government for maintaining the additional interventions that demonstrated a commitment to making cocoa farming more profitable, sustainable, and attractive to the next generation.

The statement highlighted, in particular, the introduction of free fertilisers (liquid and granular), the forthcoming Ghana Cocoa Traceability System, and the planned Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for the children of cocoa farmers for the 2026/2027 academic year.

While embracing these initiatives, the Association called for the timely distribution of subsidised inputs to all eligible farmers across regions and increased investment in extension services and community-level education on the traceability system.

“We believe this additional producer price announcement, coupled with the broader set of reforms, presents an opportunity for renewed trust and stronger cooperation between farmers, COCOBOD, and the government,” the statement said.

“We therefore urge all cocoa farmers across Ghana to appreciate and cooperate with the government and stay the course toward a more equitable and sustainable cocoa future,” it added.

Ignore the propaganda; NPP does not vote on tribal lines – Bawumia

0

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia tours the Central Region as part of his campaign for the January NPP primaries.

Former Vice President and flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed claims that the party operates on tribal lines, describing such assertions as unfounded political propaganda.

Speaking at Lapaz in Accra on Friday, October 3, as part of his campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region, Dr Bawumia said the NPP’s tradition has always been rooted in inclusiveness and merit, not ethnicity.

“The tribal propaganda which is there, I want everybody to know that our party, the NPP, does not vote on tribal lines. It is not part of our tradition,” he said.

He traced the party’s political philosophy to the early years of Ghana’s independence, noting that its historical roots show a commitment to unity and national purpose rather than regional or ethnic loyalty.

“If you go back to 1950 during Nkrumah’s time, he passed the Avoidance of Discrimination Act and we formed the United Party (UP). We didn’t need parties based on regions,” he explained.

Dr Bawumia recounted that after the formation of the United Party, the Northern People’s Party led by S.D. Dombo had the largest number of seats—13 in total while Dr K.A. Busia’s Ghana Congress Party had only one.

“Normally, Dombo should have been the leader of the United Party because he had more seats. But the Northern People’s Party sat down and decided that we want to take power from Nkrumah.

“And Busia is the one most likely to help us win power. So they gave the leadership to Busia, even though they had more numbers,” he said.

Dr Bawumia stated that this historic decision reflected the NPP tradition of prioritising competence and unity over tribal affiliation, urging party members to reject divisive narratives ahead of the 2028 elections.

Kluivert describes Antoine Semenyo as world class after heroics against Fulham – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

0

Bournemouth forward Justin Kluivert has hailed teammate Antoine Semenyo as “world class” following the Ghanaian’s breathtaking display in the Cherries’ 3-1 comeback win over Fulham on Friday night.

Semenyo produced yet another stellar performance, scoring twice and providing an assist as Bournemouth climbed to second in the Premier League table, just a point behind leaders Liverpool.

The 25-year-old’s influence has been central to Bournemouth’s early-season surge, proving invaluable after a summer in which the club lost several senior players.

“He is incredible,” Kluivert said after the match. “He shows it every game now. He is just world class.”

Semenyo’s first goal was a moment of brilliance as he glided past Fulham defenders on the left flank before slotting home through Bernd Leno’s legs.

Moments later, he turned provider, setting up Kluivert to give Bournemouth the lead. The Ghanaian then capped his night with a composed left-footed strike deep into stoppage time.

The in-form winger now has six league goals this season — second only to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland — and has been directly involved in 12 Premier League goals since May, more than any other player.

Signed from Bristol City in 2023, Semenyo’s rapid rise has made him one of the most complete attacking threats in the English top flight.

The Fashion Trend Everyone Is Talking About

0

Lace and fine native attire are two popular fashion choices that reflect elegance, culture, and style. Lace is a delicate fabric known for its intricate patterns and see-through designs. It is widely used in dresses, blouses, skirts, and gowns. Lace is a favorite for weddings, parties, and formal events because it adds a touch of sophistication and class. Designers often combine lace with other fabrics or use it as an overlay to create a luxurious look.

Fine native attire, on the other hand, celebrates cultural heritage. In Ghana, traditional fabrics like Kente, Batakari, and Adinkra-printed cloth are commonly used. These textiles are often handwoven, embroidered, or printed with symbolic patterns that carry meaning. Fine native attire is worn during festivals, weddings, naming ceremonies, and other important occasions. It represents craftsmanship, identity, and status, making it more than just clothing.

Combining lace with native attire has become a modern trend. For example, a lace blouse paired with a Kente wrapper or skirt creates a perfect blend of contemporary and traditional style. Accessories such as beads, headwraps, and gold jewelry enhance the overall look. Footwear can range from elegant heels and sandals to traditional leather slippers, depending on the occasion.

Both lace and fine native attire allow individuals to express personal style while honoring tradition. Whether worn separately or together, these fabrics create outfits that are visually stunning and culturally significant. Fashion enthusiasts continue to explore creative ways to mix lace and native textiles, making them a staple in modern wardrobes.

In conclusion, lace and fine native attire are more than just fabrics; they are statements of elegance, heritage, and creativity. Embracing both allows people to celebrate culture while staying stylish in contemporary settings.

Private schools call for probe into sexual misconduct in SHSs

0

The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has called for the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry into growing reports of sexual misconduct in Ghana’s Senior High Schools, describing the situation as a national crisis threatening the safety and dignity of learners.

In a press release dated October 3, 2025, GNACOPS condemned what it called a systemic failure to uphold child protection principles in the country’s education system, following two high-profile cases of alleged sexual abuse involving senior educators in the past week alone.

On September 29, the Ghana Education Service (GES) confirmed the removal of Mr. Charles A. Aidoo, Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST Senior High School, after a viral video surfaced allegedly showing him in a compromising position with a female student.

Just days later, on October 2, Mr. Mfo Richard Tibetor of Okadjakrom Senior High Technical School was interdicted over another case of alleged sexual misconduct involving a student.

“These incidents are not isolated,” GNACOPS said. “They are symptoms of a deeper, more pervasive culture of abuse, fear, and institutional neglect within our schools.”

Citing Article 278 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, GNACOPS is urging President John Dramani Mahama, Parliament, and the Council of State to establish a Commission of Inquiry to independently investigate the extent of the problem and recommend structural reforms.

“The exploitation of school girls and boys by teachers in positions of power is a matter of urgent national public interest. It strikes at the heart of our national morality, undermines the integrity of our education system, and traumatizes the very citizens our schools are meant to protect.”

GNACOPS outlined a four-point mandate for the proposed commission:

1. Investigate the prevalence and patterns of sexual misconduct in all Senior High Schools nationwide.
2. Identify and expose networks of complicity, including school authorities and district officials who cover up or ignore abuse.
3. Recommend reforms to strengthen learner protection, school accountability, and legal frameworks.
4. Propose collaboration mechanisms between education stakeholders, law enforcement, and civil society to combat abuse.

Worryingly, GNACOPS also revealed that in some cases, female educators have allegedly become complicit, either in silencing victims or enabling the abuse, further deepening the culture of secrecy.

Calling for immediate national consensus, GNACOPS appealed to teacher unions, school heads, parent associations, civil society organizations, and religious bodies to join the demand for justice and systemic reform.

“Silence is no longer an option. Let us act now to restore public confidence in our education system. Ghana’s children deserve no less,” urged Obenfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, National Executive Director of GNACOPS.

The press release ends with a firm reminder that every Ghanaian child has the right to an education in a safe, respectful, and abuse-free environment, whether in public or private institutions.

As investigations into the recent incidents continue, public pressure is mounting for Ghana’s leadership to move beyond disciplinary press statements and take concrete, structural action to protect the nation’s learners.

Vehicle registrations surge 29% in first five months of 2025

0

Transport sector activity is showing strong momentum, with new vehicle registrations rising significantly in 2025, according to the Bank of Ghana’s July 2025 Monetary Policy Report.

Fresh data from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) shows that in May 2025 alone, 20,202 vehicles were registered, up 24.5 percent from 16,220 recorded in the same period last year.

Cumulatively, registrations in the first five months of the year hit 108,542 units, a 29.4 percent jump compared with 83,878 over the same period in 2024.

The growth in registrations reflects improving economic sentiment, with households and businesses more confident to invest in vehicles.

This may also signal easier access to auto financing, renewed fleet expansion by logistics and ride-hailing operators, and stronger demand for commercial transport services.

The development comes at a time when Ghana is pushing for higher efficiency in transport and logistics as part of its economic recovery strategy.

Rising registrations, while positive for mobility and trade, also present challenges such as increased fuel demand, congestion in urban centers, and the need for expanded road infrastructure.

Already some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have begun increasing fuel prices at the pumps in line with projections for the first pricing window of October 2025.

Again ,the rebound in transport activities could translate into higher revenue for government through registration fees, road use charges, and associated taxes.

Market watchers will also be monitoring the trend closely, given its potential implications for inflation through transport costs, one of the key drivers of the consumer price index.

With transport being a critical enabler of commerce, the surge in vehicle registrations underscores renewed momentum in Ghana’s broader economy.

Industry players believe sustaining this growth will require continuous investment in road infrastructure, affordable credit schemes for vehicle acquisition, and policies that balance rising mobility with environmental sustainability.

NPP does not vote on tribal lines, ignore the propaganda

0

Former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia Former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has strongly rejected claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) selects its leaders based on tribal or regional biases.

He made this statement during a campaign stop in Lapaz, Accra, on October 3, ahead of the NPP’s presidential primaries.

Dr Bawumia labelled the idea of tribal politics “propaganda” and stated that tribalism “is not part of our tradition.”

“I want to make it clear that we, the NPP, we don’t vote on tribal lines. It is not part of our tradition,” he said.

He traced the party’s roots back to the formation of the United Party (UP) following the Avoidance of Discrimination Act, citing how multiple regional parties, including the Northern People’s Party (NPP), Ghana Congress Party, Anlo Youth Congress, Ga People, and the Muslim Association Party, united under the UP.

He noted that after the formation of the UP, the Northern People’s Party, led by S.D. Dombo had won the largest number of seats in Parliament with 13, while Dr. K.A. Busia’s Ghana Congress Party had only one seat.

However, Dr. Busia was made leader of the United Party, irrespective of his tribal background because of his competence.

“Normally, Dombo should have been the leader of the UP, but the Northern People’s Party agreed for Busia to lead because they saw him as the one who could help UP attain political power,” Dr. Bawumia explained.

Using this scenario, Dr Bawumia asserted that the NPP has always been about national character, inclusiveness, and merit, not tribal loyalties.
