‘Shatta does real Dancehall, Stonebwoy focuses on Afro-Dancehall’– Bullgod

Artiste manager and entertainment analyst Bullgod has reaffirmed his belief that Shatta Wale is the true Dancehall king in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, Bullgod, who once managed Shatta Wale, responded to a listener’s question about who he considers the Dancehall king.

According to him, while Stonebwoy is talented, his focus has always been on Afro-dancehall rather than pure Dancehall.

‘Doing music videos in 2025 doesn’t make sense’ – Bullgod

“Shatta has been true to that genre. I think Stonebwoy does well as well. I’m not sure Stonebwoy will sit anywhere and claim that. Stonebwoy claims Afro-dancehall. For real Dancehall, you cannot take the crown away from Shatta. He has it, and he has championed it not just today, but from way back. When the facts are there, you cannot deny it,” Bullgod said.

Bullgod’s comment come at a time when there is debate about the roots of Afro-dancehall and who should be credited with originating the sound.

Stonebwoy recently addressed the matter in a separate conversation on the same platform, clarifying his position on the origin of the term.

He explained that although the style existed before he popularised it, he was the one who coined the name “Afro-dancehall.”

At the same time, he paid tribute to Samini as the undisputed king of African Dancehall.

“My African dancehall king is one and only Samini, yeah, with all respect and with full chest. The king of African dancehall, because there are accolades to show. The first winner of MOBO awards from Ghana, which is high. It means the work has been done and names have been said,” Stonebwoy said.

Daniel Boamah-Duku, a former Assistant Headmaster of KNUST Senior High School play videoDaniel Boamah-Duku, a former Assistant Headmaster of KNUST Senior High School

Daniel Boamah-Duku, a former Assistant Headmaster of KNUST Senior High School, has shared details about the recent viral video capturing the current Assistant Headmaster, Charles Akwasi Aidoo, in a compromising situation with a female student.

According to Boamah-Duku, his long-time friend Aidoo, whom he affectionately called “Stonebwoy” since their early days, has surprised him with his actions.

He alleged that the girl seen in the video is known on campus for bad behaviour and was once disciplined by school authorities.

Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV on October 1, 2025, Boamah-Duku alleged that the student “smokes wee” and had been expelled from the school’s boarding house due to misconduct, which forced her to continue as a day student.

He remarked, “No matter who you are, you cannot extort money from children. The law even says that we should not manhandle them. Even if a child offers herself to you, you must not engage her. So, God should help us all.

“The child in question, from what I know she is not a good girl. She smokes wee. And I am surprised that Stonebwoy would associate with her because this is a child we disciplined and expelled from the boarding house.

GES removes assistant headmaster over ‘dirty’ viral video scandal

“Why would you give your phone to such a girl and involve yourself with her? She is a bad girl. Stonebwoy has been my friend for years, and he is also an old student.”

Meanwhile, Charles Akwasi Aidoo has been removed from the school following the circulation of the viral video on social media.

In a statement issued on September 29, 2025, the Ghana Education Service (GES) said it had taken the matter seriously and acted swiftly to protect the integrity of the teaching profession and ensure the welfare of students.

According to the statement, Aidoo has been barred from accessing the school while the investigation continues.

The Service explained that the decision was necessary to safeguard a safe learning environment for students and protect the institution’s credibility.

The GES assured parents, students and the general public that due process would be followed, stressing that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken in line with its code of conduct.

“The GES remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and child protection in all our schools. We strongly condemn any acts that compromise the safety, dignity and well-being of students,” the statement read.

The Service reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of the teaching profession and emphasised that misconduct of any kind would not be tolerated.

Gov’t hikes cocoa producer price from $3,228 to $3,625 per bag

0

The government has announced a further increase in the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 season, raising it from GH¢3,278.75 to GH¢3,625 per 64kg bag. This translates into GH¢58,000 per tonne.

The decision was taken by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), chaired by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. This marks the second adjustment in the cocoa price since the government assumed office in January 2025.

It will be recalled that on August 4, 2025, the government announced a significant increase in the producer price for the 2025/2026 season, raising it from $3,100 to $5,040 per tonne — a 62.58% jump in dollar terms.

Speaking at a press briefing to announce the latest review, Dr. Ato Forson explained that the upward adjustment was necessary to ensure Ghana’s farm gate price remains competitive after the Ivory Coast raised its price on Wednesday, October 1.

“You will recall the government on August 4, 2025, announced a producer price of cocoa for the 2024/2025 season at GH¢3,278.75 per bag or GH¢51,660 per tonne. This translated to about $5,040 per tonne, representing 70% of the gross FOB price. That announcement was based on a forecast of the world market price and exchange rate projections.

“Subsequently, we have seen some changes, and we needed to review the price. After meeting with stakeholders, we are pleased to announce a new producer price, which takes effect from Friday, October 3, 2025. On this basis, the price has been increased to GH¢3,625 per bag or GH¢58,000 per tonne. This means every cocoa farmer will now earn GH¢400 more per bag,” he stated.

Naa Torshie To Switch Her Support For Ken Agyapong To Fulfil Her Vice Presidential Ambition

0

Former Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Irene Naa Toshie Addo-Lartey, is reportedly considering shifting her political allegiance to Kennedy Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer contest.

Sources close to her suggest that this move is being explored as part of her long-term ambition to occupy the Vice Presidency of Ghana.

DStv saga: You’re unfit, apologise and resign

0

The Minority in Parliament has asked the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, to resign over what they describe as his failed handling of the recent standoff with MultiChoice, operators of DStv in Ghana.

At a presser in Accra on Thursday,  October 2, Deputy Ranking Member on the Communications Committee, Charles Owiredu, accused the Minister of misleading Ghanaians, wasting public resources, and abandoning his commitment to secure a 30% reduction in DStv subscription fees.

“We of the Minority demand that, one, the Minister renders an unqualified apology to Ghanaians for the waste of the nation’s time and resources on this venture,” Owiredu stated.

“Two, we call on him to refund the funds levied on DStv. And three, we deem him unfit to lead this strategic Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, and therefore call on him to resign—or for His Excellency the President to relieve him of his duties.”

The Minority contends that the Minister completely shifted from his initial bold promise of a 30% reduction in subscription fees, only to later claim that MultiChoice’s ongoing promotional campaign was a “generational success.”

According to them, this move represents a betrayal of public trust and a failure to deliver on his own stated objectives.

“Instead of addressing legitimate questions posed by Ghanaians—such as why he prioritised MultiChoice’s PR efforts over his price-reduction agenda, or how much revenue has been accrued from fines imposed on MultiChoice—the Minister resorted to attacking the Minority Committee and well-meaning citizens,” Owiredu added.

He further highlighted that MultiChoice has been running its “Step Up” promotional campaign since January 13, 2025, offering subscribers the opportunity to upgrade to a higher package at no extra cost. The company also reduced decoder prices in July to appreciate customers, a move Owiredu claims was misrepresented by the Minister as a government-brokered success.

“It is important to note that these promotional offers are standard across several countries and are not the result of any negotiations led by the Minister. This is someone who, having failed to deliver on his promises, is now seeking cover behind corporate marketing strategies,” he said.

Owiredu also criticised the Minister’s conduct during committee engagements, accusing him of lacking the “mental rigour” to effectively understand and communicate key issues, and suggesting that his public claims about negotiations with MultiChoice may have been entirely fabricated.

“The Minister’s failure to grasp key issues during meetings and to communicate the actual negotiated outcomes to Ghanaians—or worse, his deliberate fabrication of what he was never able to broker—is evident,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, MultiChoice Ghana on Wednesday, October 1 issued a public clarification, stating that they fully support the government’s recently announced DStv value upgrade and that a misleading FAQ published on their website was an error.

This followed confusion among customers and media reports suggesting a contradiction between a government statement by Minister of Communication, Samuel Nartey George, and a new three-month DStv promotion running from 1 October to 31 December 2025.

MultiChoice clarified three key points:

1. The company fully supports the joint statement made by Samuel Nartey George regarding the value upgrade for DStv packages and has already started implementing it.

2. A review committee will meet again in three months to assess the impact of the initiative, suggesting that the rollout is being monitored and may evolve based on feedback and data.

3. The offer applies to all DStv customers—new, returning, and existing—with no restrictions on which bouquet they can choose.

MultiChoice also apologised for the earlier website FAQs, admitting they created the wrong impression of a contradiction with the Minister’s announcement.

Cocoa is a key export commodity for Ghana Cocoa is a key export commodity for Ghana

The government has announced an additional GH¢400 on every 64kg bag of cocoa for farmers for the 2025/2026 crop season.

Farmers had been earning GH¢3,225 per 64kg bag of cocoa since the start of the season.

The decision was approved by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), chaired by the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.

With the additional GH¢400, Ghanaian farmers will now earn GH¢3,625 for every 64kg bag of cocoa.

Government raises cocoa producer price to $5,040 per tonne for 2025/2026 season

Speaking at an emergency press conference in Accra on October 2, 2025, Minister of Finance Dr Cassiel Ato Forson said the review will help improve the financial well-being of farmers.

He explained that changes in the government’s forecast informed the Producer Price Review Committee’s decision to adjust the price for farmers.

“This means that for every bag purchased, the cocoa farmer will receive an additional GH¢400. Simply put, for every bag a cocoa farmer sells, they will get GH¢400 more,” he said.

Government tightens energy sector rules with competitive bidding requirement

0

John Abdulai Jinapor is the Minister for Energy and Green Transition John Abdulai Jinapor is the Minister for Energy and Green Transition

The government has introduced a Legislative Instrument (LI) that mandates the procurement of power generation through competitive bidding, as part of the energy sector reforms.

The Energy Commission (Planning and Competitive Procurement of Additional Electricity Generation Capacity) Regulations, 2025. L.I. 2508 represents a major policy shift aimed at enhancing transparency.

The new policy framework is also expected to foster innovation, reduce costs, and create an attractive environment for investment, as Ghana works toward a resilient and sustainable energy future.

The LI is a milestone in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to deliver affordable electricity tariffs to spur industrial growth and economic transformation, a statement from the Energy Ministry issued in Accra yesterday, copied the Ghanaian Times said.

Currently, power generation accounts for approximately 65 per cent of the total cost in Ghana’s electricity value chain, and the introduction of competitive procurement is intended to address this imbalance by driving down costs, improving efficiency, and ultimately delivering better value to consumers.

“This reform marks a new era for Ghana’s power sector. Competitive bidding will not only ensure value for money, but also unlock innovation and greater private sector participation,” the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, said in the statement.

The LI outlines a comprehensive framework to guide future power generation procurement. Its core objectives include enhancing transparency in the energy sector, promoting cost-effectiveness and affordability, and attracting a diverse mix of technologies and investors.

It also seeks to ensure predictable and streamlined procurement processes, effective implementation, while steps are being taken to strengthen the capacity of regulatory institutions.

This includes improving the vetting of license applications and maintaining a comprehensive, up-to-date Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) register, enhancing transparency and oversight.

The Ministry is, therefore, working closely with international partners, including the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and the Energy for Growth Hub, to standardise Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), build local capacity in PPA design and negotiation, ensure fair and balanced returns for investors, and deliver high-quality electricity at competitive prices.

The collaboration aims to make Ghana’s power sector more bankable, efficient, and aligned with global best practices—while ensuring long-term sustainability and consumer protection.

With the passage of this LI, Ghana positions itself as a regional leader in energy sector reform, demonstrating a strong commitment to transparent governance, fiscal discipline, and inclusive growth in the power industry.

First killings in Morocco since Gen Z protests erupted

0

Police and private vehicles have been torched in the unrest in Morocco Police and private vehicles have been torched in the unrest in Morocco

At least two people have been killed in Morocco after police opened fire to prevent protesters from storming a police station in Lqliaa, near the coastal city of Agadir, state media says.

These are the first deaths reported since huge youth-led protests broke out across Morocco on Saturday as anger grew over the government’s decision to build football stadiums for the 2030 Fifa World Cup rather than improving public services and tackling the economic crisis.

“Stadiums are here, but where are the hospitals?” is a popular chant among the Gen Z protesters.

One protester told BBC Newsday that going to the hospital in his city, Oujda, on the border with Algeria, was like “entering a jail”.

It was dirty, and patients had to bribe security officers and nurses to see a doctor, said the protester, who spoke on condition of anonymity as he feared reprisals.

The protests have been happening at night, with police saying they were forced to open fire “in legitimate self-defence” on Wednesday evening to repel the “attack” in Lqliaa, the state-owned news agency reported.

Earlier on Wednesday, the interior ministry said the right of people to protest within the law would be upheld.

Organisers of the youth-led protest movement known as GenZ 212 – the number refers to Morocco’s international dialling code – have distanced themselves from the violence. They have been rallying mainly through social media, and do not have a formal leadership structure.

Official statistics show that Morocco’s unemployment rate stands at 12.8%, with youth unemployment soaring to 35.8% and 19% among graduates, Reuters news agency reports.

Protests have also hit the capital, Rabat, the main commercial city, Casablanca, and the port city of Tangier – often the arrival point for tourists going to Morocco by ferry from Spain.

Morocco’s tourist hub, Marrakech, was also hit by violence, with protesters burning a police station, according to local media.

Interior ministry spokesman Rachid El Khalfi said that 409 people have been detained across Morocco following the unrest.

More than 260 police officers and 20 protesters have been injured, while 40 police vehicles and 20 private cars have been torched, he was quoted as saying.

The uprising follows similar youth-led, large-scale demonstrations this summer in Nepal, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Madagascar.

The uprising in Nepal led to the prime minister resigning, while Madagascar’s president dissolved his government on Monday in an attempt to placate the protesters there.

Morocco’s governing coalition issued a statement on Tuesday expressing willingness to engage in dialogue with the youth “within institutions and public spaces to find realistic solutions”.

It also praised what it called “the balanced reaction of security authorities in line with relevant legal procedures”.

True identity of African ‘king’ living in Scottish forest with ‘tribe’ before arrest

0

The African ‘king’ who was living in a Scottish forest with his ‘tribe’ has a rather different true identity.

King Atehene, Queen Nandi and their ‘handmaiden’ Asnat were evicted by law enforcement officers this morning (2 October), having set up camp on a plot of land owned by the council.

The members of the so-called Kingdom of Kubala had been living in woods near Jedburgh in the Scottish borders for several weeks, having claimed they were staying on land stolen from their ancestors 400 years ago.

Real name Kofi Offeh had moved there with his wife, Jean Gasho, previously claiming ‘all nations belong’ to him and that he is ‘the chosen one’.

They were joined by Asnat, whose real name is Kaura Taylor, while members of her family said she had been ‘groomed’ into doing so from the US.

Deputy leader of Scottish Borders Council, Scott Hamilton, said there was a ‘heavy police presence’ at the site and was currently being cleared.

“There are still a few things at play with regard to the situation, but I think this morning has been a good result for the community and for them as well in terms of the outcome,” he added, as it’s reported Offeh and Taylor were placed in separate vans after being removed.

Before he reinvented himself as the ‘King of Kubala’, the 36-year-old was reportedly a director of entertainment, retail, property and performing arts firms.

A former opera singer from Ghana, Gasho boasted about his supposed fortunes on her blog.

The 43-year-old claimed back in 2021: “My husband within a year has acquired 10 properties to his name. He now runs an empire and, in assets, he is now a millionaire in his own right.

“He gets properties that need renovation and invests thousands into them, making them look gold. Today he is a millionaire king and I can’t help but give thanks.”

However, The Scottish Sun on Sunday found records to reveal that the man’s businesses in the UK typically failed within a few years of being set up.

This included retail and entertainment businesses being struck off while Gasho was making claims that Offeh was showering her with gifts worth tens of thousands.

She wrote in one post that her husband went ‘from nothing to having 13 properties in two years’, claiming he ‘made so much money’.

But businesses he is linked to in public records – including Black British Entertainment, Northern Bridge Ltd and Lookgold Ltd – were all dissolved by compulsory strikeoff within a few years of being incorporated.

After years of struck off businesses, the couple then showed up in the Scottish woods, claiming to be leaders of the Kingdom of Kubula, said to have received income from subscribers on social media.

When asked about his failed firms, Offeh told the Sun: “All these businesses were the road to where we have come. It was a journey of discovery. We have left the world behind.

“The world of luxury is perishing. The world of the wilderness is what awaits everyone.

“It’s more rewarding than cash, gold and silver. This is our destiny.”

Borrowers to see relief as Ghana's lending benchmark falls again Borrowers to see relief as Ghana’s lending benchmark falls again

Ghana’s benchmark lending rate has fallen to 17.86% in October, down from 19.86% in September, according to the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB).

The two-percentage-point drop in the Ghana Reference Rate (GRR) follows the Bank of Ghana’s aggressive 350-basis-point policy rate cut in September, which lowered the monetary policy rate to 21.5%.

The reduction is expected to ease lending and borrowing costs across the banking sector.

At the start of the year, the GRR stood at 29.72%, edging up slightly to 29.96% in February before steadily declining over the past six months to 19.67% in August.

Lending rates to drop in October after policy rate cut – BoG

Industry analysts have linked the latest cut to a consistent decline in key economic indicators such as inflation, treasury bill yields, and, most notably, the Bank of Ghana’s policy rate, which has been slashed by over 600 basis points to 21.5%.

According to the Bank of Ghana’s recent Monetary Policy Report, average lending rates have eased from 26.6% to 24.2%, while yields on money market instruments are also trending downward.

For instance, the 91-day treasury bill rate fell from 13.4% at the end of July 2025 to 10.3% in August.

The cut in the GRR could provide relief for businesses with variable-rate loans, which may be reviewed in line with the decline. New borrowers are also expected to benefit from lower lending costs as commercial banks adjust their rates.

The GRR, introduced in 2017 by the Bank of Ghana and GAB, was designed to improve transparency in loan pricing and guide banks in setting interest rates.

The maiden rate was pegged at 16.82% in April 2017.

Nicki Minaj sparks new fight with Cardi B in online ‘war of words’

0

In the rap world, time does not heal all wounds.

The longstanding feud between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj is far from over after the rappers rekindled their tension with each other on social media this week.

The “Starships” rapper reportedly bashed the sales of Cardi B’s new album, “Am I the Drama?”, following its Sept. 19 release in a series of since-deleted X posts, according to Complex and E! News.

Minaj allegedly insinuated that Cardi B inflated the sales of her new album. To which Cardi B responded with comments of her own on X, saying: “Nothing more annoying than a bored (expletive)” and “You must’ve missed me, huh crazy?? Now kiss my feet.”

In more X posts, Cardi B wondered why Minaj keeps “bringing up the album,” adding that it’s “not the gag that she thinks it is.”

“You been in the game like 16 years.. you need to compare yourself to YOUR peers that started around YOUR time,” Cardi B wrote on X in a separate Sept. 29 post, referring to Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Drake.

“Those are the numbers you need to be competing wit and you can’t cuz you doing lower than all of them,” she wrote.

The two rappers have a history of trading jabs with one another throughout the years.

Dating as far as 2018, during their infamous New York Fashion Week fight, when someone saw Cardi B try to attack Minaj at a party before security guards intervened, per The Associated Press.

Video circulating on social media at the time showed Cardi B lunging toward someone before being escorted out.

Cardi B is currently expecting her fourth baby with boyfriend Stefon Diggs. She shares kids Kulture, 8, Wave, 3, and Blossom, 12 months, with ex Offset.

What did Nicki Minaj say about Cardi B?

According to screenshots shared by Complex, Minaj made fun of Cardi B on X in several posts, including one that claimed the “I Like It” rapper had undergone surgery to resemble her.

“Fallin off the charts wit a big bellyyyy / RUNNING TRAINS,” Minaj reportedly wrote. “Barefoot, still smellyyyyy / Still. You. Could. Not. outsell. meeeeee.”

She also mocked a lyric off the new track “Magnet” where Cardi B rapped: “A-B-C-D-E-F-G / these [expletive] can’t [expletive] with me.” Minaj, in her post, allegedly wrote: “Abcdefgeeeeeeee. SUR GER REE TO LOOK LIKE MEEEEE.”

Among Cardi B’s online responses was one that read: “She was streaming Magnet hard as hell huh??”

What did Cardi B say about Nicki Minaj?

The heated exchange between the two went into Wednesday, Oct. 1, as Minaj and Cardi B continued to call each other names and went as far as involving their respective family members, including their parents and children.

Cardi B made a supposed final response where she said Minaj needs to go to therapy and heal from trauma. “YOU NEED TO GET HELP!! You need to heal that trauma.. you always coming at people everytime you see them happy because you got so much trauma and pain that you wanna put on others,” she wrote.

She added that she refuses to throw away her own career and endorsements, going back and forth with Minaj, whom she called a “possessed drug addict.”

Nicki Minaj urges fans to boycott Cardi B

Taunts and insults weren’t enough for Minaj, who seemingly asked her fans to boycott every company that has ties to Cardi B.

“We will boycott every company attached to her. Just like we did with BET,” she wrote, referencing her decision to pull out of a summer 2019 performance for BET after the network aimed a rude tweet at her following Cardi B’s best rap album win for “Invasion of Privacy.”

“Every company that enabled her disgusting remarks about children & other marginalized groups FOR YEARS you have 3 days to cut ties. That is it,” Minaj added. “That is all. Enjoy your day. We have the receipts.”

“And if you are still underestimating my influence, try me.”

Cardi B tension comes after Nicki Minaj feuds with SZA

Minaj is no stranger to public feuds, having publicly argued with artists from Megan Thee Stallion to SZA.

On July 15, the rapper aired grievances with Grammy-winning singer SZA with digs toward her music, popularity and appearances. Minaj claimed she was being bullied by SZA’s manager and Top Dawg Entertainment label president, Terrence “Punch” Henderson.

She also criticized SZA’s decision to release a deluxe album titled “LANA,” a continuation of her 2022 “SOS” record, last December.

Minaj wrote that SZA “put out a whole new album as a deluxe to an already existing album that was out for like a year or 2 so the original album could break records. Like what in the insecure lack of morals & integrity you doing?”

In her response, SZA replied, with alleged text evidence screenshots: “Nicki. You absolutely know my music and what I contribute, cause you’ve asked for features twice to no response.”

“Lol ur having a moment ..im not sure why but be blessed,” SZA added.

There was also a very public feud between Minaj and “Hot Girl Summer” collaborator Megan Thee Stallion last year.

Megan released a scathing diss track titled “Hiss,” that allegedly took aim at Minaj and her husband Kenneth Petty with one lyric referencing the sex offender law Megan’s Law (Petty was convicted of attempted first-degree rape in 1995, while Minaj’s brother Jelani Maraj is also a registered sex offender).

Details of the case shared on the Prosecution Service website indicated that three of the men, Fawaz Ali, Ebenezer Tackie, and Michael Quartey, were found guilty of money laundering offences and sentenced to four years and 10 months’ imprisonment, four years and six months’ imprisonment, and five years and six months’ imprisonment, respectively.

Kwabena Edusei, who had admitted to conspiracy to defraud, money laundering, supplying articles for use in fraud, and possession of ID documents with an improper intention, was sentenced to seven years and 10 months’ imprisonment.

Hajia4Real, Kofi Boat, Others: List of Ghanaians extradited to the US in recent past

George Melseaux, who admitted to money laundering and possession of ID documents with an improper intention, was sentenced to three years and nine months’ imprisonment.

The report indicated that the five men executed their scam by creating fake profiles and fictional biographies on dating websites to trick their victims.

“They used flirtatious language to manipulate people into thinking they were entering into a genuine loving and caring relationship. But this was all a build-up to the fraudsters asking victims for money for fake reasons including loans to pay for business trips gone wrong, fines being incurred in remote locations, or a stolen wallet and urgently needing money to pay these off.

“Victims transferred money to the bank accounts of the men or even sent cash in the post. This romance fraud was repeated many times until the victims had no money left or became suspicious, stopped making payments, and alerted the authorities,” parts of the report read.

It added that the stolen funds were laundered through the bank accounts of the members of the criminal gang.

The report also indicated that 40 people, out of a total of 99 suspects, had been confirmed as victims of the romance fraud.

The money the gang stole from the victims was estimated to be around £2 million.

Prudential Bank Limited (PBL) has donated a Nissan Navara 4×4 pickup truck for the sixth consecutive year to support the Ghana Teacher Prize.

The vehicle will be presented to the first runner-up at the upcoming awards ceremony, scheduled for October 5, 2025, at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Cedi Auditorium in Ho.

At a brief ceremony in Accra, the Executive Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking at PBL, Edward Commey, handed over the vehicle to the National Teaching Council (NTC) on behalf of the Bank.

He expressed pride in the partnership with the Ministry of Education, the NTC, and the Ghana Teacher Prize, saying the initiative continues to inspire teachers nationwide.

“Quality education is fundamental to societal advancement. Education equips individuals, fuels economic progress, and strengthens community bonds,” Mr. Commey noted.

He was accompanied by the Bank’s Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Akosua A. Boahen.

Receiving the vehicle, NTC Registrar Dr. Christian Addai-Poku commended Prudential Bank for its sustained contribution toward improving teacher motivation and performance.

He stressed that recognising excellence in education aligns with national development goals and urged other corporate institutions to emulate PBL’s commitment.

Since 1994, teachers have been honoured with houses, vehicles, and monetary awards to motivate excellence and dedication to service.

This year’s celebrations will kick off with a two-day symposium and exhibition at the Volta Serene Hotel from October 3 to 4, before culminating in the grand ceremony on World Teachers’ Day, October 5.

Digitalisation without cybersecurity will cripple economies – President Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has warned that Ghana risks severe economic and social disruption if investments in digitalisation are not matched with equal commitment to cybersecurity.

Launching the 2025 National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) and inaugurating the Joint Cybersecurity Committee (JCC) in Accra, the President said digital transformation must be underpinned by resilient systems capable of safeguarding national infrastructure, financial institutions and citizens’ data.

Citing an IMF report from April 2024, he revealed that 20 percent of all cyberattacks globally target the financial sector, resulting in losses estimated at US$12 billion. Ghana’s own financial system, he noted, has also been spared.

“Digitalisation investment without cybersecurity enhancement is unsustainable for any economy. A single vulnerability can cripple entire sectors—whether power grids, banking systems, healthcare or defence. Cyber incidents cost not only money but also jobs, lives and growth opportunities,” President Mahama stressed.

He highlighted ongoing interventions such as the One Million Coders Programme, the Digital Jobs Initiative, ICT parks including the Dawa ICT Park, and a US$50 million Fintech Growth Fund—all designed to advance innovation and secure digital infrastructure. These, he said, feed into the 24-hour economy policy to drive growth and job creation.

Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, emphasised Ghana’s digital reach, with 24.3 million internet users ranking the country 15th globally. He disclosed that plans are underway to establish sector-specific cybersecurity frameworks and a specialist Cybercrime Court, alongside a Cybersecurity Fund to finance national resilience.

Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), Divine Selase Agbeti, announced nationwide school curricula, community engagements and public campaigns throughout October to boost awareness. He admitted, however, that the CSA faces a shortage of skilled professionals, underfunding and a persistent brain drain.

Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak added that the Police Service’s Cybercrime and Digital Forensic Unit is advancing in proactive intelligence gathering, though it requires greater technological support.

Kenyan activists abducted in Uganda, opposition leader says

0

The Kenyan activists were helping Bobi Wine campaign The Kenyan activists were helping Bobi Wine campaign

Two Kenyan human rights activists have gone missing in Uganda after reportedly being abducted by armed men while attending opposition leader Bobi Wine’s campaign event.

Bobi Wine strongly condemned the “abduction” of Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, saying the pair had been “picked up mafia-style” at a petrol station and driven off to an unknown destination.

Kenyan police spokesman Michael Muchiri told the BBC he was not aware of the matter. The Ugandan police have been approached for comment.

Bobi Wine, a pop star whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, is running for the presidency in next year’s elections, challenging President Yoweri Museveni, 80, who has held power since 1986.

Bobi Wine said the two Kenyans were being targeted by the Ugandan government for associating with him.

“We condemn the continuing lawlessness by the rogue regime and demand that these brothers are released unconditionally! The criminal regime apparently abducted them simply for associating with me and expressing solidarity with our cause!” he posted on X.

Kenyan rights group Vocal Africa has also condemned the reported abductions and demanded their unconditional release.

A fellow activist who witnessed what happened on Wednesday afternoon said that four armed men forced the pair into a vehicle and sped off.

“There were four of them. There was also a lady who was seated in front; they took Bob and Oyoo Ochieng, who is the secretary general of the Free Kenya Movement,” the witness, who wanted to remain anonymous for security reasons, told Kenya’s Citizen TV.

He said both were unreachable on the phone and their whereabouts were unknown.

Videos shared online show Njagi actively participating in Bobi Wine’s campaign, and he appears on stage beside the opposition leader.

The activists had reportedly travelled to Uganda on Monday with some Ugandans before linking up with the campaign.

Njagi was also picked up in Kenya last year by masked men during a wave of abductions believed to have been targeting government critics in the country.

He remained missing for over a month before resurfacing, after a court ordered police to produce him. He later recounted the harrowing conditions in captivity – isolated and denied food for most of the days.

Their latest disappearances mirror past incidents involving politicians and activists across the East African region.

Earlier this year, Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi and his Ugandan counterpart Agather Atuhaire were detained in Tanzania and held incommunicado for days before being abandoned at their respective national borders.

They later recounted being brutally mistreated, including sexual torture at the hands of the Tanzanian authorities – allegations which police dismissed as “hearsay”.

Last year, another Ugandan opposition figure, Kizza Besigye, mysteriously disappeared in Nairobi only to surface four days later in a military court in Uganda, where he faces treason charges.

The cases have since sparked widespread condemnation and concerns that East African governments could be collaborating to contain dissent.

TikTokers Hail PAC Committee For Public Service Accountability

0

Abena Osei-Asare, Chairperson, PAC

A NUMBER of TikTokers have applauded members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament for their thorough investigation of some public servants in government agencies in recent times.

A video excerpt of the PAC sitting to scrutinise the audited accounts of some government institutions have sparked conversations on social media.

In its recent sitting, PAC raised serious concerns about financial irregularities at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), after the latest Auditor-General’s report revealed the payment of unearned salaries amounting to GH¢1,449,000 to a deceased staff member for 26 months.

This made TikTok sensation, Prisy1, to question the nature of corruption embed in state institutions, hence commending PAC for their investigations into the audited accounts of government agencies and public servants.

“Tamale Teaching Hospital what a shame, what a disgrace, 26 good months of paying a dead person, and there are newly posted teachers who for 13 good months are not been paid, I saw it on Twitter (X) that they are demonstrating to be paid for 13 good months.

“Public Accounts Committee, I commend you for the good work. You have done so well, I’m urging the committee to take a second look at other institutions, because there are other places you are to also look at where corruption is ongoing. Scrutinise them and bring them to book,” she stated.

Similarly, another TikToker, Quecy Official, commented on the directive by the PAC to recover over GH¢17,000 in physically challenged allowance wrongly paid to an able-bodied teacher.

He said, “The Public Accounts Committee audit is a step in the right direction; you need to continue with it. If we are able to name and shame, Ghana will be a better place for us all. How can you wrongfully pay GH¢17,000 to someone who is not disabled? So you can imagine how many people are receiving salaries who are not working.”

15 Pro-Bawumia MPs Hit Back At Bryan

0

The MPs

Fifteen (15) Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Eastern Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have strongly dismissed claims made by Dr. Bryan Acheampong suggesting that they privately apologised to him after endorsing former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the most capable candidate for the party’s flagbearership.

In a statement issued and signed by the MPs on Tuesday, September 30, they described the claims as false, divisive, and damaging to party unity.

“There is absolutely no truth in Hon. Bryan Acheampong’s assertion that some of us privately called him after our press conference to downplay our declaration,” the MPs said.

“We challenge him, in the spirit of truth and accountability, to publicly name the MPs he alleges contacted him. Until he does so, his claim remains nothing but a fabrication intended to discredit our genuine and resolute support for Dr. Bawumia,” the statement noted.

The MPs listed include Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo Frempong, Kingsley Agyemang, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, Sammi Awuku, Ida Adjoa Asiedu, Kwame Appiah Kodua, Laurette Korkor Asante, and Duke Ofori-Atta.

The others are Alexander Agyare, Michael Okyere Baafi, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, and Charles Asuako Owiredu.

They accused Dr. Acheampong and his campaign team of deliberately spreading falsehoods to create disaffection within the constituencies.

According to them, threats had earlier been issued by his team that MPs who failed to support his candidature would face sabotage in their constituencies.

The statement further dismissed claims that campaign funds for the 2024 elections in the Eastern Region came from Dr. Acheampong’s personal resources.

The MPs explained that the funds were contributions from party financiers and businessmen supporting Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, which Dr. Acheampong only facilitated as Regional Campaign Coordinator.

“This is a calculated attempt to sow division among the rank and file of the party. For the avoidance of doubt: campaign funds disbursed in the Eastern Region during the 2024 elections did not come from the personal resources of Hon. Bryan Acheampong,” the statement added.

The MPs explained that the funds had specific instructions attached and were not intended for direct payments to polling station executives.

They noted that, in many cases, they had to supplement campaign expenses with their own resources due to discrepancies between what was promised and what was received.

“It is therefore misleading and self-serving for Hon. Bryan Acheampong to now portray himself as the personal benefactor of the Eastern Region campaign effort,” they stated, calling for transparency from the central campaign leadership on the actual disbursement.

The group reaffirmed their commitment to Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy and urged Dr. Acheampong to immediately retract what they described as “baseless and divisive” allegations.

“We, the undersigned Eastern Regional MPs, remain firm, united, and unwavering in our support for Dr. Bawumia,” the statement concluded.

‘Mahama Must Apologise For Galamsey Strategy’

0

Haruna Mohammed

The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama over what he described as a flawed and inconsistent approach to tackling illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

His comments come after the government announced plans to engage civil society organisations (CSOs) in a renewed dialogue on addressing the menace.

According to Mr. Mohammed, this latest move contradicts President Mahama’s earlier position on the matter.

“This clearly shows that the President is not committed to the fight against galamsey. When he was in office, he had enough time to consult civil society, who were already raising concerns and pushing for solutions. But he failed to act on their proposals,” he said.

He recalled that civil society groups had previously recommended measures such as declaring a state of emergency and amending sections of the Legislative Instrument (L.I.) governing small-scale mining—proposals that then-President Mahama acknowledged but never implemented.

“So, if today the President says he is inviting CSOs to the table, it only proves he has not been clear or sincere with Ghanaians about how he intends to deal with galamsey.

“This is a clear departure from his own earlier position, and instead of being praised, he should apologise to the people of Ghana,” he added.

Ablakwa explains why Ibrahim Mahama, Wode Maya, Rocky Dawuni, Dentaa and Anita Erskine got diplomatic passports

0

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has officially presented diplomatic passports to five distinguished Ghanaians in recognition of their exceptional contributions to promoting the country’s image internationally.

The honourees are travel video blogger Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, popularly known as Wode Maya; Grammy-nominated reggae artiste Rocky Dawuni; broadcaster and entrepreneur Anita Erskine; contemporary visual artist Ibrahim Mahama; and British-Ghanaian entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng.

They received their passports at a short ceremony in Accra on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, which was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Acting Chief Director of the MFA, Ambassador Kadidja Iddrisu, and joined virtually by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

The announcement was first made during the launch of the 2025 Diaspora Summit on September 17, where the MFA, in collaboration with the Office of the President – Diaspora Affairs, confirmed the five would be honoured under NLCD 155.

Mr Ablakwa stressed that the process was objective and devoid of any lobbying, political or partisan considerations. “None of our distinguished Ghanaians receiving these diplomatic passports applied for it. They did not lobby for it and they did not initiate the process. This is entirely a country that says it is time to honour our heroes,” he said.

He added: “We want to also state that there was no political or partisan consideration at all. We have not asked anybody to show us a party card. We are not interested in that because this is about Ghana. It’s about the flag of Ghana. It’s about the image of our country. You have made us so proud across all regimes.”

The Minister emphasised that the initiative was only the beginning, with scope to recognise more individuals in future. “We want to send a clear message that diplomatic passports are not only for the politicians or for our revered chiefs or pastors or diplomats, but we can broaden it when we see that you are really promoting our country,” he said.

Joining the event virtually, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, urged the honourees to continue leveraging their platforms to project Ghana’s culture, arts, and tourism potential despite the country’s infrastructure limitations. She said the diplomatic passports symbolised a shared responsibility to promote Ghana’s interests globally.

Speaking on behalf of the honourees, Anita Erskine expressed gratitude to the government for the recognition. She praised the unique contributions of her fellow recipients, describing Wode Maya’s adventures, Rocky Dawuni’s music, Ibrahim Mahama’s innovative art, and Dentaa Amoateng’s diaspora engagement as powerful tools of national promotion.

Ms Erskine stressed that the diplomatic passports represented more than personal honours. “They belong to the nation,” she said, pledging that the recipients would continue to showcase Ghana’s greatness and inspire future generations to follow their passions.

Ghana moving towards dangerous water stress levels

Dr Mawuli Lumor is the Director of Policy, Planning, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at WRC Dr Mawuli Lumor is the Director of Policy, Planning, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at WRC

The Director of Policy, Planning, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Water Resources Commission (WRC), Dr Mawuli Lumor, has warned that Ghana’s renewable water supply per person is declining at an alarming rate, raising the possibility of severe water restrictions in the near future if urgent measures are not taken.

Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Dr Lumor explained how the Commission computes the country’s water stress levels.

“We compute our report annually, and basically the computation is quite simple. Ghana is estimated to have around 53 billion cubic meters of renewable water per annum. Then we look at our population,” he said.

Ghana risks clean water crisis by 2030 – Dr Aduko warns

According to him, the calculation involves dividing the total renewable water by the population.

However, while the water volume remains constant, the population keeps growing, reducing the per capita share.

“In 2016, Ghana’s renewable water per person was around 1,900 cubic meters. Today, it has dropped to about 1,500 a significant decline in less than a decade,” he indicated.

He further stressed that this figure includes polluted water, which means the actual usable supply per person is even lower.

“So, by nature, we are already getting less water, and our activities are polluting what we’re already getting. That means we are moving towards dangerous grounds,” he cautioned.

Mahama will fix Tamale water crisis as part of reset agenda – Oti Bless

Dr Lumor warned that if the trend continues, Ghana may have to follow the example of countries such as South Africa, where governments imposed strict limits on water use in some areas due to critical shortages.

“Possibly, as happened in South Africa about two or three years ago, government will have to step in and limit the use of water for particular locations considering the stress levels,” he stated.

The President of GhIE also used the occasion to express appreciation to Ing Samuel Magnus Asiedu for his dedicated service to the institution. During Ing Asiedu’s 10 months of dedicated service to GhIE, he is credited with a lot of project initiatives and accomplishments.

Notably among them include, the streamlining of the accounts unit, help in recruiting 2 new directors, the execution of the GhIE Engineering Conference and AGM, the Inauguration of the GhIE Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre (ADR Centre), and the remodeling and refurbishment of the GhIE e-Library. Under his eagle eye, the state of the institution’s finances has considerably improved.

Ing Ludwig Annang Hesse explained that the Executive Director’s role is a sacrificial job for GhIE members, therefore, he thanked the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for allowing Ing Kpekpena to provide this service to GhIE on secondment.

“We didn’t ask for you because you are a woman, we asked for you because you are competent to take on this role for the institution,” the GhIE President concluded.

In his handing over address, the outgoing Executive Director of GhIE, Ing Samuel Magnus Asiedu said, it had been an honour and a privilege to serve as Acting Executive Director of GhIE over the past 10 months.

“I am grateful to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for releasing me on secondment and for their continuous support to the engineering profession. I am equally thankful to my husband, Ing Kwame Kpekpena, my mum Madam Josephine Matanawui, my dear sisters, family, colleagues, Women in Engineering (WinE) Ghana members, mentors, and partners who have encouraged me along this journey.”

She pledged her full support to Ing Enyonam Kpekpena to succeed as the new Executive Director of GhIE. The President of WinE Ghana, Ing Jane Naki Tetteh-Anowie, on behalf of WinE, said, “Dr. Kpekpena has been a shining light for women in engineering, an inspiration, a mentor, and a trailblazer. Who Told You My Wife Is UnHappy- Bishop Obinim Fumes

0

Bishop Daniel Obinim and his wife

Founder of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has lashed out at critics spreading rumours about his marriage to gospel singer, Florence Obinim.

In a video shared on GHPage’s YouTube channel on September 30, 2025, the controversial pastor dismissed claims that his wife of 21 years is unhappy.

“I am not afraid to divorce Florence, and she is equally not afraid to end our marriage, but we respect, love, and cherish each other. Who told you she is not happy?” Obinim retorted.

He insisted his wife has never complained about their union and warned critics to stop dragging his family into public gossip. The bishop went further, issuing a spiritual curse on those peddling the rumours.

“I swear on my kids and our 21 years of marriage, if you judge me or speak evil about our relationship, your own marriage will end, or your business will collapse,” he declared.

Obinim urged Ghanaians to allow him and Florence to enjoy their marriage in peace, stressing that while his wife’s public life as a gospel singer is open for discussion, their private relationship should be respected.

Ranking Member of the Committee has given a 90-day ultimatum for Muniru to refund the money Ranking Member of the Committee has given a 90-day ultimatum for Muniru to refund the money

The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has directed Ibrahim Muniru, the Deputy Head of Human Resources (HR) at the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, to refund an amount of GH¢31,847.00.

This follows revelations in the Auditor-General’s Report that Muniru allegedly continued to validate the salary of Abdul-Hakeem Iddrisu, an employee who had vacated his post.

According to the report, Abdul-Hakeem Iddrisu was absent from work for a total of 109 working days between March and August 2024, despite receiving two absenteeism queries from his immediate supervisor.

Despite these red flags, the Deputy HR allegedly continued to authorize payments, a move the Committee described as a clear breach of financial regulations and administrative procedures.

During PAC’s public hearing on Wednesday October 1, 2025, in Parliament House, Accra, Samuel Atta-Mills, the Ranking Member of the Committee, gave a 90-day ultimatum for Muniru to refund the money.

“Madam [referring to the HR of the ministry], we will make it simple; whoever did the validation will pay GH¢31,847.00 as ruled. Auditors make sure that the person pays. He’s in the office; he’s probably watching us. He has to pay GH¢31,847.00, and we’re giving him 90 days to pay this amount,” he said.

On her part, Madam Abena Osei-Asare, the Chairperson of the Committee, in her reaction said: “You knew he wasn’t at work; his supervisor had written a query that had been raised, and yet you kept paying him. All these things were brought to your attention, yet the validator kept validating.”

PAC on Monday, September 29, reconvened to continue its public hearings to review the Auditor-General’s report for the year ending December 31, 2024.

The Committee has been scrutinizing various government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for alleged financial irregularities.

Among the agencies and ministries appearing before the Committee are the Ghana Statistical Service, the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry for the Interior, the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General’s Department and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.

Others are the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Art, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Transport.

The PAC’s scrutiny of the Auditor-General’s report highlights the Committee’s commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency in government financial dealings.

The Committee has adjourned to Monday, October 27, 2025.

Cassie Fears For Safety Ahead Of Diddy’s Sentencing

0

FLASHBACK: Diddy and Cassie

Singer Cassie Ventura says she fears for her life as her ex-boyfriend, Sean “Diddy” Combs, awaits sentencing this week.

In a victim impact statement submitted to court, Cassie revealed she moved her family out of New York because she believes Combs could seek revenge if he is released.

“I am so scared that if he walks free, his first actions will be swift retribution towards me and others who spoke up,” she wrote.

Cassie, the government’s key witness, testified during the trial that the hip-hop mogul abused her throughout their 11-year relationship, forcing her into drug-fuelled sex parties. She described the experience as leaving her with “tremendous emotional pain.”

Combs was convicted in July on two counts of transporting for prostitution involving Cassie and another ex-girlfriend, though he was cleared of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.

Prosecutors are asking for an 11-year sentence, while Combs’ defence team is pushing for just 14 months, citing time already served and claiming he has changed.

Cassie, however, disputes that claim, insisting in her letter: “He has no interest in changing or becoming better. He will always be the same cruel, power-hungry, manipulative man that he is.”

The judge is expected to deliver the sentence later this week.

Unpaid nurses and midwives protest over 10-month salary arrears

0

The Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives has staged a protest on Thursday, October 2, 2025, to demand the payment of salary arrears owed by the government.

According to the group, over 7,000 nurses and midwives have been working without salaries for the past nine to 10 months, despite being formally recruited through official government processes.

The protest, which began at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, will see demonstrators march to the Ministry of Finance and later the Ministry of Health, where petitions will be submitted to demand immediate resolution of the matter.

Convenor of the coalition, Stephen Kwadwo Takyiah, expressed frustration over the situation, describing it as unfair and unsustainable.

“We are not comfortable hitting the streets, but it has become necessary. We are citizens, trained as professional nurses and midwives from nursing training colleges and universities.

“We graduated in 2020, completed our rotations, and waited at home for three years. In July 2024, the Ministry of Health announced it had secured financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance for our employment.

“The portals were opened, we registered, and by October 2024, we received postings and reported to work in December. Out of the 15,000 announced, about 13,000 took up postings.

“But in April 2025, only some of our colleagues started receiving salaries. As we speak, just over 6,500 have been paid, while nearly 7,000 of us have worked for close to 10 months without pay,” he lamented.

The coalition insists the government must act swiftly to address their plight, warning that the delay in payments is demoralising and undermines healthcare delivery nationwide.

Diplomatic passports for the creatives were not influenced by politics – Ablakwa

Okudzeto Ablakwa with the recipients of the diplomat passports Okudzeto Ablakwa with the recipients of the diplomat passports

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said that the decision to hand diplomatic passports to five figures in Ghana’s creative space was taken purely on merit after consultations with the Ministry of Tourism.

He noted that the recipients neither applied for nor lobbied for the honour, saying the move was a national gesture of gratitude for their roles in carrying Ghana’s image across the globe.

Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 1, 2025, during the official presentation of the passports, and captured by Ghana Weekend, Ablakwa said that the initiative was meant to honour individuals who have consistently brought pride to the country.

“None of our distinguished Ghanaians here who have been honoured to receive these diplomatic passports applied for it. They did not lobby for it. They did not initiate the process. This is entirely a country that says that it is time to honour our heroes and that these people are deserving. And it was done very objectively, meeting as management, consulting our colleagues at the Tourism Ministry,” he said.

McBrown should’ve been included on diplomatic passport list – Nana Aba Anamoah

The minister explained that the decision was also practical, noting that many Ghanaian creatives struggle with travel restrictions when invited abroad for international events.

He recalled an instance in which a Ghanaian group billed to perform in Barbados nearly missed the opportunity due to visa complications.

“There was a group recently that had to perform in Barbados; very, very big appointment they had to really project our country. But they needed to get to Barbados, they needed a transit visa, either with the Americans or the British, and they couldn’t get a date.

“And it was really difficult for them. If they had a diplomatic passport, they could go through Europe, because, for example, with a diplomatic passport, you don’t need a visa to get to Germany. And then from Germany, you can connect to the Caribbean,” he added.

The five creatives selected for this recognition represent different branches of Ghana’s cultural and creative expression: travel vlogger Wode Maya, Grammy-nominated reggae artiste Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster Anita Erskine, visual artist Ibrahim Mahama, and entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng MBE.

Watch as parts of Accra, Kasoa get submerged after hours of downpour

Some roads were blocked by the flood waters leading to traffic Some roads were blocked by the flood waters leading to traffic

Parts of Accra were left submerged in floodwaters after several hours of torrential rain on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

The rains, which started around 5pm in some locations, wreaked havoc and caused significant damage to properties in certain areas, leaving major roads blocked.

Watch videos of how Sunday’s heavy downpour flooded major streets and homes in Accra

On the Mallam-Kasoa highway, videos sighted by GhanaWeb on October 2, 2025, show roads connecting parts of Accra and Kasoa, as well as, Cape Coast and Takoradi, completely flooded, causing heavy vehicular traffic and leaving commuters stranded.

The intensity of the floods also washed a wooden kiosk into the middle of the road, just a few meters away from the West Hills Mall.

Some parts of Dansoman were also affected by the flooding, with floodwaters covering the road surface and causing vehicular traffic.

Haatso, also situated close to Madina, had some of its streets flooded.

The downpour once again exposed the vulnerabilities of the capital’s drainage systems, as vehicles struggled to move through the waterlogged streets.

Urban planning experts have long criticised the lack of efficient and sustainable solutions to manage the impacts of climate change in Accra.

Despite policies aimed at building resilience, authorities in charge of the city’s infrastructure appear to be reactive rather than proactive in managing such situations.

Ahead of the 2025 rainy season, President Mahama set up a seven-member Anti-Flood Taskforce to address Accra’s perennial flooding challenges.

The Taskforce, chaired by Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations), Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, began its work on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, with a comprehensive assessment of flood-prone areas across the capital.

Odo Broni Drags Oheneba Media To Court Over Marriage Claims

0

The late Daddy Lumba and Odo Broni

The Accra High Court has granted a temporary injunction in favour of Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, and her mother, Cecilia Minta, restraining Oheneba Media and two of its presenters from making further publications about them.

Justice Forson Agyapong Baah delivered the ruling on September 26, 2025, following an application filed earlier on September 15. The order, which surfaced online via Ayisha Modi’s Instagram page, specifically bars Oheneba Media, Oheneba Agyei Nimako, and Oheneba Serwaa Bonsu from continuing their commentary on Odo Broni.

The legal action comes after several weeks of heated criticism against Odo Broni since the passing of her partner, Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, on July 26, 2025. In a series of broadcasts, Oheneba Media presenters challenged her legitimacy as Lumba’s wife, insisting that his first wife, Akosua Serwaa, based in Germany, remains the only lawful spouse.

Presenter Oheneba Serwaa repeatedly referred to Odo Broni as merely a “baby mama” and dismissed claims by Lumba’s family head that both women should be allowed to perform widowhood rites. The attacks extended to her mother, who was accused of pushing her daughter to replace Akosua Serwaa in the late musician’s family.

Transport Minister directs DVLA, Police to get rid of rickety cars

0

The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nipke, has directed the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Police to intensify efforts to remove rickety vehicles from Ghana’s roads.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, October 2, 2025, the minister said that no vehicle should be issued a roadworthy certificate unless it has undergone a thorough inspection and meets safety standards.

“As a government, we will need to sit down on getting rickety cars off the roads. I have had conversations with the DVLA that any vehicle that is not inspected properly should not be given a roadworthy certificate. But it goes beyond them. The police should come in and be able to take out that vehicle as well,” he said.

Mr. Nipke cautioned against the activities of middlemen, popularly known as “goro boys,” who facilitate the acquisition of roadworthy certificates for vehicles without proper inspection.

He said the government is expanding DVLA offices across the country to improve access and eliminate such practices.

“DVLA should not give a roadworthy certificate to any vehicle when they have not seen it. If they have seen it and it is not roadworthy, it should not be certified,” he added.

On the government’s role, the transport minister disclosed that plans are underway to inject more vehicles into state-run transport services to reduce dependence on unsafe vehicles.

“We should take it upon ourselves as a government to bring in more vehicles to support Metro Mass Transport, STC and others to be able to service more people. If they have the alternatives, they will not be moved to enter those rickety cars,” Mr. Nipke stated.

Govt to integrate aviation, rail, road and water into transport system

0

The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nipke, has outlined plans by government to integrate Ghana’s four main modes of transport to make travel easier and more seamless for citizens.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Mr. Nipke explained that the government’s vision is to create an interconnected system that allows travellers to conveniently switch between air, rail, road, and inland water transport.

“Our vision is how we can integrate the four modes of transport to make travel easier or seamless for people. When you take the aviation sector, although people say it is expensive, it is the fastest, depending on where you want to go and what you want to do,” he said.

He added that beyond aviation, the government is working to improve other modes, particularly rail and inland water transport, to complement the road network.

“We are looking at how to improve on the rest of the modes of transport—railway, and also the inland water transport services. That will integrate the transport system, so you can use one to a point and continue with the other options,” the minister explained.

According to him, the goal is to ease mobility, reduce travel times, and expand accessibility across the country by leveraging the strengths of each transport mode.
