Former Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, has called on party supporters to rally strong support for former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in his bid to lead the party again as its flagbearer.

Addressing a crowd of party supporters at a yet to be identified event, Samira Bawumia described her husband as a ‘good man’ who had served the nation’s interests diligently.

She asserted that his achievements and work ethic as vice president were unmatched by any of his predecessors in the country’s history.

“Let us support Dr Bawumia because he is a good man. He is the only vice president in Ghana’s history who worked very well for the country and served diligently,” she said in a video shared by Daily Graphic on Facebook.

Samira Bawumia also emphasised that Dr Bawumia has demonstrated both the competence and commitment necessary to serve the country dutifully, and therefore deserves the support required to realise and implement his visionary agenda for the nation.

“He served well and supported former President Akufo-Addo. He has done everything he needs to do and now the time has come for him to also implement his visionary ideas for the country,” she continued.

The former Second Lady noted that her husband, like other candidates in the party, deserves a second chance to lead the NPP.

“Just as we did for others, let us do same for Dr Bawumia. Just as others got second chances, Bawumia deserves same second chances to lead the New Patriotic Party for him to serve the country. We have learned and grown and we know the way forward. We have all learned what we need to do to help Ghanaians and Dr Bawumia is ready to do what Ghanaians want,” she added.

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to end the persistent power cuts in parts of the North East Region, assuring residents that his government will stabilize electricity supply as part of a broader energy reform agenda.

A former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has shot down claims that the previous NPP administration was responsible for the country’s challenges.

He instead offered a different perspective on the former government’s performance, stating that the NPP’s administration was one of the best in the nation’s history.

He stated that despite the challenges faced during its eight-year tenure, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, along with former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, delivered a ‘solid performance’ in advancing the country’s development.

“The government didn’t cause the mess. The NPP under the circumstances for the eight years, I would say, go into history as one of the best governments that had ruled this country irrespective of what people’s opinion would be.

“But of course, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but I am saying, closely that I’ve worked with that government as a party chairman and as a member of the cabinet, I don’t think the performance can be described as bad. It was a solid performance on the part of the government, particularly the president of the republic and indeed the finance minister that you mentioned,” he said in an Oyerepa interview on June 14, 2025.

Blay further remarked that the legacy and achievements of the NPP government would ultimately be judged by posterity.

He added, “Of course, when you are keeping the past, sometimes people will have their own opinion about you for not opening your arms widely and stick it to some of the policies that may be controversial. GES has extended the 2025 SHS school selection process

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has extended the deadline for the 2025 Senior High School (SHS) selection process for Junior High School (JHS) candidates to Wednesday, 25th June 2025.

The extension, communicated in a circular dated 13th June 2025, is aimed at providing candidates and their guardians with additional time to make informed decisions regarding school placements.

According to the GES, the decision follows the inclusion of private Senior High Schools in this year’s placement system, which expands the range of options available to students.

The Service assured that all existing procedures and guidelines remain unchanged.

Candidates have been advised to consult with their teachers and parents before finalising their selections.

To support the updated process, GES has also released a supplementary list featuring newly added private SHSs to help students make well-considered choices
