Asante Kotoko have completed the signing of defensive midfielder Lord Hilary Adabo on a three-year deal, after exchanging final documents with FC Samartex.
The 21-year-old joins from FC Samartex and previously played for Real Tamale United. In just two seasons in the Ghana Premier League, he has made over 60 appearances, showing consistency and maturity well beyond his age.
Adabo is a tough, intelligent midfielder who protects the back line with strong positional discipline. He reads the game well, tackles cleanly, recycles possession quickly, and keeps things calm in midfield. His timing, awareness, and ability to win second balls are key traits that strengthen the spine of any team.
“There were a few offers, including some from outside,” Adabo said when speaking with Kotoko Media. “But I believe playing for Asante Kotoko puts me in the best place to grow and earn a call- up to the Black Stars. This is a big step for me, and I’m confident it’s the right one for my career.”
Adabo, who impressed with his ball-winning ability, composure, and tactical intelligence at Samartex, is viewed as a key addition to bolster Kotoko’s midfield depth and defensive solidity.
Meanwhile, the club has already announced eight players so far to strengthen their squad ahead of upcoming season. Kotoko first announced the signing of midfielder Hubert Gyau on a four-year deal from Berekum Chelsea, Francis Acquah, Johnson Oppong, Zackaria Fuseini, Aziz Haruna Dari , Seth Kwadwo, oseph Amoah and Lord Hilary Adabo.
Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly defended her party’s recent parliamentary victory in Ablekuma North, dismissing allegations of intimidation and electoral misconduct.
Her comments come in response to accusations from some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, who claimed the NDC “bullied” its way to securing the seat, long considered an NPP stronghold.
In the rerun held on Friday, July 11, NDC candidate Ewurabena Aubynn emerged victorious in a closely contested race.
Appearing on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Dr. Bisiw-Kotei rejected the claims as baseless and an affront to the voters.
“When they say we bullied our way, it will be like people didn’t vote, and we pushed and counted ballots that didn’t exist. I mean for you [NPP] to say that somebody bullied their way in a democratic dispensation where we all participated, then I don’t really know what they mean.
“I think that it’s also an insult to the electorate in Ablekuma. They queued, some went to work, and hurriedly came back to vote.”
She continued, “They voted on December 7, 2024, and their will didn’t reflect in whatever results were declared. There was a rerun and they spoke again, so I don’t think that is fair for anybody to say that they or we bullied our way to victory.”
The rerun was marred by chaotic scenes, including an incident at the St. Peter’s Methodist Church polling station, where unidentified men reportedly overpowered police officers and assaulted several people, including former Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson.
Viral videos from the scene showed Koomson using pepper spray as tensions escalated between party supporters and unknown assailants. Calm was eventually restored, and the voting process continued.
The Electoral Commission later declared Ewurabena Aubynn the duly elected Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North.

President John Dramani Mahama has declared a national emergency in response to the spike in illegal mining activity in several regions of the nation and vowed to step up efforts to confront the escalating situation.
He reaffirmed the government’s determination to crack down on illicit mining activities and specifically denounced the environmental damage that galamsey had caused in Awaso, Dadieso, and Sefwi Anhwiaso.
President Mahama made the following remarks at a durbar on Tuesday, July 15, while on his “Thank You Tour” of the Western North Region: “We are alarmed by the environmental destruction that is reported across Awaso, Dadieso, and Sefwi-Anhwiaso, mainly due to illegal mining. I must be honest, this is a national emergency.
The national taskforce will continue its efforts to halt illegal mining in our forest reserves and on our water bodies,” he said.
Additionally, he sent a strong warning to so-called anti-galamsey task groups that are allegedly extorting small-scale mining firms with licenses.
“I have also noticed the activities of the illegal anti-galamsey taskforces that go round extorting money from legitimate small-scale mining companies.
“I have requested the authorities to arrest and prosecute any individuals involved in this illegal anti-galamsey activity,” President Mahama warned.

Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama has identified three persistent threats to Ghana’s economic stability despite the cedi’s 42% appreciation this year.
Speaking at a financial forum, Asiama warned that commodity volatility, dollarization, and policy trade-offs could undermine recent gains without coordinated action.
The governor noted Ghana’s heavy reliance on gold, cocoa, and oil exports leaves it vulnerable to global price swings, while seasonal import surges strain foreign reserves. He particularly condemned businesses pricing services in dollars despite legal tender laws, citing real estate and education sectors as key offenders.
Simultaneously, the government advanced major reforms:
Scrapping political appointees’ fuel allowances amid opposition claims of “populist gimmickry”
Abolishing teacher licensure exams by August 30
Signing international partnerships for new universities in Jasikan and Kintampo
Mandating mining equipment registration to combat illegal operations
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu confirmed memoranda with Egyptian and Moroccan firms for the university projects, targeting regional skills gaps. The Births and Deaths Registry also resumed operations after resolving a two-month security paper shortage that halted certificate issuance nationwide.
Ghana National Chamber of Commerce President Stephan Miezah emphasized that successful implementation of Mahama’s flagship 24-hour economy policy requires “non-negotiable” utility reliability and agricultural modernization. These developments unfold against ongoing opposition scrutiny of fiscal reforms under the National Democratic Congress administration.
Founder and CEO of the MILLS Institute, Samuel Koku Anyidoho
Founder and CEO of the MILLS Institute, Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has criticised former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for using the Coat of Arms of Ghana as a letterhead on a correspondence dated July 14, 2025.
Anyidoho argued that the Coat of Arms, which serves as the official Seal of the State, is a symbol reserved strictly for the sitting president, and its use by any other person constitutes a breach of protocol.
He said this in a post on X on July 15, 2025.
“The Coat-of-Arms is the Seal of the State and must only be used by a Sitting President. This anomaly must be rectified,” he stated.
His remarks come in response to a letter issued by former President Akufo-Addo, which bore the national Coat of Arms as its official header.
The statement has triggered public debates about the proper use of state symbols by former heads of state.
Some critics say such use could confuse the public or blur the lines of constitutional authority.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Office of the former president.
The Coat of Arms is a central emblem of state power in Ghana and is used exclusively by the president and selected state institutions in the execution of official duties.

Lamine Yamal recently celebrated his 18th birthday
The Spanish government is set to open an investigation into Lamine Yamal’s 18th birthday party, which took place on July 12, 2025, in Barcelona.
Reports from Spain indicate that “dwarves”, who could be described as midgets, were hired to entertain guests at the event, sparking criticisms from a section of the public.
The Association of People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias (ADEE) fumed that the entertainment was degrading to people with related conditions.
One of the models who attended the party, named Claudio Calvo, also claimed Yamal paid for 12 women with a certain breast size to attend the bash.
In light of the criticisms, the Spanish government is planning to take legal action against the Barcelona prodigy for alleged exploitation of dwarfism.
However, one of the accused entertainers denied claims of exploitation during the party, saying they were treated with dignity and criticising ADEE for disregarding them which negatively affects their job as entertainers.
“No one disrespected us; let us work in peace. I don’t understand why there’s so much hype. We’re normal people who do what we want in an absolutely legal way.
“(ADEE) is humiliating people with dwarfism. For a couple of years now, these people have been harming us; they want to ban a job that we like, and in no case have they offered jobs or courses to affected people. We work as entertainers; why can’t we do it? Because of our physical condition?” he questioned as quoted by Goal.com.
Yamal’s father has denied any wrongdoing and refuted the accusations.

The Ministry of Education has directed the National Teaching Council (NTC) to collaborate with its Registrar to finalise arrangements for a final sitting of the current teacher licensure examinations, stressing that this opportunity must not go beyond August 30.
The directive was issued by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu during the inauguration of the newly constituted board of the NTC.
He explained that the deadline is part of a broader transition plan toward a new framework for assessing teacher qualifications.
While commending the board for its progressive proposals, the Minister revealed that the upcoming framework will prioritise academic training and practical fieldwork over standardised licensure exams, aiming to better align teacher preparation with classroom realities.
“The last of it must be concluded not later than 30th August. If there is a last opportunity for those who sat and couldn’t make it, that process should not travel beyond 30th August. You are to work with the registrar, get us a firm date, and we’ll put that off,” he stated.
In a powerful move to combat fraudulent activities and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation, QNET and Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have joined forces in a formal collaboration.
This strategic partnership, anchored in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), is a unified response to the alarming rise in fraud, illegal migration schemes, and human trafficking operations. It underscores a shared determination to protect the public and hold accountable the criminal networks responsible.
Joining Forces to Protect the Public
This collaboration reflects the shared concern of both EOCO and QNET over the deceptive practices of criminal syndicates who use fake job offers, scholarship scams, and false promises of international opportunities to exploit Ghanaians and other West Africans.
These scams often misuse the names of legitimate international companies to lend credibility to their operations and deceive unsuspecting victims.
“EOCO and QNET have signed an MOU to collaborate to identify and dismantle these criminal networks. We appreciate QNET’s proactive stance and willingness to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to protect the public as well as their brand,” said Raymond Archer, Acting Executive Director of EOCO, on July 15.
“This partnership is a significant step towards combating organised and cross-border crime in Ghana. Through this partnership QNET and EOCO are seeking to leverage our expertise and resources to disrupt and dismantle these criminal networks, protect our citizens and maintain the integrity of our economy.”
Raymond Archer, Acting Executive Director of EOCO
Key Objectives of the Collaboration
Under the MoU, QNET and EOCO will work together to:
Support the proactive investigation and disruption of criminal schemes involving brand impersonation and fraud.
Facilitate knowledge exchange and capacity building on detecting and preventing fraud and human trafficking.
Raise public awareness about how syndicates operate and the signs of a potential scam.
Share information on suspicious activities in a structured and timely manner to improve enforcement action.
An Alliance Rooted in Responsibility
This partnership represents a shared commitment to safeguarding individuals and communities from exploitation. It builds on QNET’s ongoing efforts to support law enforcement agencies and community education, and EOCO’s mandate to investigate and prosecute organised crime.
“This collaboration with EOCO is timely, as QNET is about to open our new compliance office in Ghana, which will serve as a touchpoint for all regulatory and security agencies,” said Biram Fall, Regional General Manager of QNET in Sub-Saharan Africa.“This partnership is not about protecting a brand—it is about protecting people. Fraudsters have hijacked the names of reputable companies to exploit others. Together, we are drawing a line”, he added.
Biram Fall, Regional General Manager of QNET in Sub-Saharan Africa
Over the past few years, QNET has actively undertaken several public awareness initiatives in Ghana to help communities identify and avoid fraudulent schemes. These include media engagements, educational outreach, and stakeholder collaborations. Most notably, in August 2024, QNET launched the nationwide
“QNET Against Scams” campaign, which utilised radio, television, social media, and billboards to alert the public to common scam tactics and empower them to recognise red flags. These sustained efforts reflect QNET’s ongoing dedication to education and transparency.
“Over the last two years, we have done everything within our power to combat this issue. But as a private company, there is a limit to how far our voice can carry. That is why today matters. Because today, we have EOCO standing beside us,” added Ramya Chandrasekaran, Chief Communications Officer of QI Group, the parent company of QNET.
Ramya Chandrasekaran, Chief Communications Officer of QI Group, the parent company of QNET
“With EOCO’s reach, authority, and investigative powers, and our commitment to transparency and education, we now have the collective strength to take this fight to the next level. Together, we can disrupt these criminal networks.
“Together, we can warn and educate communities in even the most remote corners of Ghana. Together, we can give victims a voice and potential victims a shield.”
In 2024-2025, QNET has aided various West African law enforcement agencies in prosecuting over 150 people for brand misuse-related fraud and helped nearly 400 victims recover funds or return to their home countries.
Public Vigilance and Reporting
QNET and EOCO urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities or scams. If the public encounters individuals who are promoting job offers or overseas travel opportunities in the name of QNET, they can report it through:

A raging fire has broken out at Madina Ritz Junction in Accra, engulfing multiple wooden structures and triggering an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The GNFS, in a post on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, July 15, confirmed that three fire engines from the Madina, Legon, and Abelemkpe fire stations have been deployed to the scene to battle the flames.
“Rigorous firefighting operations are currently underway,” the post stated, as personnel on the ground tirelessly work to bring the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established, and there have been no immediate reports of casualties. The fire, which involves densely packed wooden structures, poses a high risk of rapid spread, prompting the urgent response.
“Trust your gallant firefighters to swiftly work hard to bring the situation under control,” the GNFS assured.
Accra, July 15, GNA – The ECOWAS Community Court of Justice has adjourned for a ruling on an application for provisional measures filed by Ghana’s Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.
The application, suit No. ECW/CCJ/APP/32/25, seeks suspension of ongoing removal proceedings and her reinstatement with full entitlements, pending determination of the substantive case.
Accra, July 15, GNA- Crystal heights international School has graduated over 200 pupils during its 7th speech and prize-giving ceremony at Amasaman Shikpontele in Ga south municipality.
They include Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High School and those pursuing international studies.
It was held on the theme: “innovators of tomorrow: rising with purpose and possibility”
Speaking at the ceremony, the Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences, as well as an Associate Professor and Founding Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Ghana, Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, thanked parents, guardians, and educators for their support and emphasized the importance of innovation, creativity, and problem-solving.
Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, shared stories of innovators, including Alexander Fleming, who discovered penicillin, and highlighted the principles of innovation, including curiosity, knowledge, persistence, and collaboration.
The graduates were encouraged to apply these principles in their future endeavours and to work together to achieve their goals.
Professor Kauffmann upon a successful sharing of stories about some innovators of yesterday and today, noted, “you should realize that innovation sometimes finds you and not the other way round”.
To become an innovator, she empathised, there is the need to be observant, cultivate curiosity and never stop asking questions as there are solutions to problems around.
“If you find yourself in an uncomfortable situation, you may not be alone.Choosing to analyze the problem instead of ignoring it could be the starting point for finding the solution”, the keynote speaker added.
Professor Kaufmann further admonished the graduates to be bold enough to find out why things are done in a certain way.
“Don’t feel you are too young or get discouraged by the things you do not understand. Remain grounded in purpose. This means that instead of blindly following what everyone else is doing, have a plan and an expected outcome for everything you set out to do”, she urged.
The director of Crystal Heights international school, Emmanuel Dadzie Entsie, delivering his welcome address, recalled the conscious engagements to equip every student with tools which aided the learning process, helped the connections, and creation in a rapidly evolving world culminating into the foundation upon which the school had chalked up the milestone.
He emphasized the importance of virtual classrooms and interactive platforms as ways that have created the needed innovations.
Describing those innovative initiatives as the bridge to broader heights.
“Since our founding in 2014, Crystal Heights has grown from a single campus to a vibrant community of learners, thinkers, and doers. We have strategically expanded our laboratories —Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Robotics—to ensure that theory meets practice and curiosity becomes discovery”, he disclosed.
“This year’s Robotics and Computing display, is a testament to that commitment: watch our students translate code into motion and algorithms into solutions. But technology alone does not define an innovator. Innovation springs from purpose”, he intimidated.
He noted that partnering with the Ga West Municipal Education Directorate to champion STEM education across the municipality as real impact begins when skills serve community needs.
The graduation themed“Innovators of Tomorrow: Rising with Purpose and Possibility”—invites each of you, graduands, to ask not just what you can create, but why.
This year’s graduation saw the pupils perform various activities from, culture dance, talk show, choreography and poetry. The digital department also showcased some innovations. Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama has cautioned citizens against relying on unverified exchange rate projections from black market operators (“Zabarma”).
Speaking at a financial forum, he emphasized that informal traders’ predictions fuel panic-driven decisions while obscuring fundamental economic improvements.
“Expectations should be formed using verified data not street-corner Alhajis,” Asiama stated, citing Ghana’s doubled trade surplus and strengthened current account. He urged the public to reference the central bank’s Monetary Policy Committee reports, which confirm the cedi’s stability stems from tangible export growth and $11.1 billion reserves.
The Governor acknowledged exchange rates as “endogenous variables” that naturally fluctuate to absorb external shocks. His remarks counter recent claims by economist Dr. Solomon Fokuo that the cedi’s 42% appreciation is artificial. The guidance aligns with President Mahama’s economic transparency agenda under the National Democratic Congress administration.
President John Dramani Mahama has promised to build stadiums for the new six regions
President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to developing sports infrastructure across the country, announcing that modern sports stadiums will be built in the six newly created regions and other areas currently without such facilities.
Speaking during his nationwide ‘Thank You’ tour in the Western Region on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, President Mahama explained that the move is part of his government’s broader vision to expand sports and recreation infrastructure across the country.
“Under sports and recreation, modern sports stadia are to be built for the six new regions and other regions that do not have them. As I speak, the Minister of Sports and Recreation is overseeing the design of modern sports stadia for the six new regions and the regions that don’t have them, and so Western North is going to receive a modern sports stadium,” he said.
His visit forms part of a nationwide tour to express gratitude to Ghanaians for his election victory in December 2024.
In the Western North Region, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured eight out of the nine parliamentary seats in the last polls, a stronghold that turned out in large numbers to welcome him.
The minister of sports and recreation is expected to continue overseeing the design phase, paving the way for construction to begin in the coming months.
The six new regions, which were officially created on February 12, 2019, are Ahafo with its capital at Goaso, Bono East with its capital at Techiman, North East with its capital at Nalerigu, Oti with its capital at Dambai, Savannah with its capital at Damongo, and Western North, which has Sefwi Wiawso as its capital.
Each of these regions was carved from existing ones to bring the government closer to the people and accelerate local development.

Former Subin Member of Parliament, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot reclaim power in the 2028 general elections if it relies on the efforts of individual factions instead of promoting unity.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing stressed the need for collaboration among all party stakeholders, cautioning that internal divisions could derail the party’s chances.
Accra, July 15, GNA – A Human Rights Court has adjourned to July 23 an application seeking to strike out suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo’s judicial review.
The adjournment followed submissions by State Attorney Reginald Odoi, who informed the Court that the Attorney-General, Dr Dominic Ayine, and his deputy, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, were outside the jurisdiction on national assignment.
Mr. Odoi requested an adjournment and noted that the Chief Justice’s legal team had been informed.
The team, led by Mr. Kwabena Adu Kusi and Ms. Benedicta Asamoah, did not oppose the request.
Mr. Kusi expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved expeditiously.
The Court directed that an affidavit in opposition to the respondent/applicant’s motion be filed and proved in court.
Justice Torkornoo’s judicial review challenges the dismissal of her earlier application to halt her suspension and removal proceedings.
She is seeking a declaration that the five-member committee hearing the petitions is null and void, citing violations of her rights, the rules of natural justice, and Article 282 of the 1992 Constitution.
The Eastern Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has firmly refuted rumours circulating on social media suggesting that Mrs. Mavis Kumi, widow of the late Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi, is preparing to contest the vacant parliamentary seat.
In a press release signed by Eastern Regional NPP Chairman Jeff Konadu Addo on Tuesday, July 15, the Party described the claims and the accompanying campaign flyers as false, misleading, and “deserving of the utmost contempt.”
“We wish to categorically state that this information is false, misleading, and should be treated with the utmost contempt it deserves,” the statement said.
According to the NPP leadership, the Party has been in close contact with Mrs. Kumi and her family following the passing of Ernest Kumi, and she has made her position clear.
“She has unequivocally communicated that she has no interest in contesting the seat or participating in active politics at this time. Her current focus… is to mourn her husband with dignity and in peace,” the release added.
The Party called on its members, supporters, and the general public to disregard the unauthorised flyer and avoid spreading false information, particularly during a period of mourning.
“Misinformation of this nature only adds pain to an already grieving family… such conduct must be strongly discouraged,” the statement noted.
The late Ernest Kumi was remembered in the statement as a “committed patriot and loyal servant” of both the NPP and the people of Akwatia.
The Party urged all well-wishers to honour his legacy with truth and dignity, and to uphold its core values during this time.
“Let us uphold the values of unity, decorum, and integrity that our Party stands for,” Jeff Konadu Addo emphasised.
The Eastern Regional leadership also encouraged the public to continue offering prayers and support to the bereaved family, and to focus on celebrating Ernest Kumi’s legacy rather than engaging in political speculation.

Accra, July 15, GNA – The Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) and the Civic Forum Initiative (CFI) have called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of assault during the Ablekuma North re-run election.
In a joint statement signed by Mr. Kwesi Jonah, Head of Advocacy and Institutional Relations at IDEG, and Dr Angela Dwamena-Aboagye, Chairperson of CFI, the organisations said prosecution would deter electoral violence and uphold the rule of law.
They expressed grave concern over violent incidents recorded at 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency, citing disturbing video evidence of physical assaults on journalists, voters, and a former Member of Parliament.
“These incidents reflect a dangerous pattern of electoral violence and impunity that continues to threaten the integrity of Ghana’s democratic process. Elections must be peaceful expressions of the people’s will, not battlegrounds for political intimidation and fear,” the statement said.
Referencing past incidents in Ayawaso West Wuogon, Tolon, and Ahafo Ano South West, the CSOs attributed the recurrence of violence to political inertia in holding perpetrators accountable.
They called for bold measures to eliminate violent political tactics and vigilantism and urged the National Elections Security Task Force to adopt a proactive and preventative approach ahead of the Akwatia by-election.
The statement urged civil society organisations to engage major political parties to break the cycle of electoral violence.
It advocated constitutional and institutional reforms, along with media-police collaboration, to restore public confidence in Ghana’s electoral and law enforcement systems.
IDEG and CFI also empathised with victims of political violence and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting a peaceful, inclusive, and accountable democratic culture.
Kadjebi (O/R), July 15, GNA-Mr. Frank Adjei-Worlanyo, the Communications Officer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akan Constituency, has strongly criticised the recent chaotic events during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun held on July 11.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he described the turmoil as a serious threat to Ghana’s democracy, likening it to a siege.
The rerun, necessitated by a legal dispute in the constituency, related to the 2024 parliamentary elections, quickly devolved into scenes of violence and intimidation, of which Mr. Adjei-Worlanyo described as “institutional failure”.
He expressed concern that this deterioration in the electoral process reflects a deepening vulnerability to political thuggery and the potential for democratic backsliding in the country.
This incidence, he said, if not addressed decisively, could threaten to erode public trust in democratic institutions and plant seeds of widespread instability.
Mr. Adjei-Worlanyo pointed out that the events at Ablekuma North echoed previous violent episodes in Ghana’s democratic history, raising alarms about the need for decisive action to prevent further erosion of public trust in democratic institutions.
He warned that unless these issues are addressed, they could instigate widespread instability and undermine the foundations of Ghana’s democracy.
The chaotic environment during the rerun serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing the country’s political and security frameworks, prompting urgent calls for reforms and greater accountability to safeguard the integrity of electoral processes.
Mr. Adjei-Worlanyo emphasised that the ongoing incidents of electoral violence and vandalism during elections-including general elections, by-elections, and other electoral events-pose a significant threat to Ghana’s democratic framework, which has garnered the country a reputation as a beacon of democracy.
He noted that Ghana’s image is largely built on the peaceful transitions achieved through four consecutive elections.
He stressed that the chaos witnessed in Ablekuma North is more than a singular instance of electoral misbehaviour, saying “it represents a fundamental threat to the very foundations of Ghana’s democracy.”
Election integrity, he argued, requires not just the act of voting but ensuring that elections are conducted fairly, safely, and credibly, allowing citizens to participate without fear.
Mr. Adjei-Worlanyo warned that when violence is used as a mechanism for gaining electoral advantage, it undermines the legitimacy of election outcomes and fosters cynicism among voters, particularly the youth and first-time voters.
This trend, if allowed to persist, risks normalizing electoral violence, potentially disenfranchising key demographics such as women, youth, and vulnerable populations ahead of future elections-especially the upcoming 2028 general elections.
He highlighted that diminished confidence in the Electoral Commission and security agencies could drive political parties to take actions that might trigger retaliatory violence in subsequent elections, leading to cycles of instability.
Such a scenario threatens to damage the democratic ideals that Ghanaians hold dear, ultimately endangering the very democracy that the nation has worked hard to build and maintain.
Mr. Adjei-Worlanyo emphasised the critical importance of upholding the integrity of Ghana’s democratic processes considering recent violence during the Ablekuma North rerun.
He warned that if citizens lose faith in the electoral system, believing that “ballots no longer matter”, the democratic foundation of the country could be at risk.
He called for strong action against the perpetrators of the violence, urging that justice must not only be pursued but demonstrated, to prevent a recurrence of such chaos.
As the Communications Officer pointed out, Ghana has made significant strides in its democratic journey, and it cannot allow the actions of a few to derail this progress.
He posed a challenge to all stakeholders, and asked: “Will we act now, or will we wait until it’s too late?
“This stark query reflects the urgency of the situation and the need for immediate, decisive action to protect and strengthen Ghana’s democracy.”
CHELSEA PRODUCED a dominant display to beat European champions Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 and win the first edition of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Cole Palmer was the standout performer, scoring twice and assisting a third in a blistering first-half performance. The England midfielder opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a low shot past Gianluigi Donnarumma after a smart run from Malo Gusto. He added a second eight minutes later with a similar strike after a clever dummy.
Palmer then set up new signing João Pedro with a defence-splitting pass, which the Brazilian finished with a calm lob to make it 3-0 before halftime.
PSG responded after the break, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembélé both testing Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, who stood firm. Missed chances earlier in the game by João Neves and Désiré Doué proved costly for the Parisians.
Frustration boiled over in the 85th minute when Neves was sent off after a VAR check showed he pulled Marc Cucurella’s hair. Tempers flared again after the final whistle as PSG boss Luis Enrique appeared to slap João Pedro, prompting intervention from substitute Presnel Kimpembe. Enrique later claimed he was trying to calm tensions.
The match was watched by a crowd of over 81,000, including U.S. President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The win earned Chelsea an estimated £90 million in prize money and marked a major milestone under new manager Enzo Maresca.
Veteran Nollywood actress Tola Oladokun has made a surprising revelation — she has never kissed anyone in her entire life, not even her husband.
The actress, known for her role as Mama Jenifa in Jenifa’s Diary, shared this during an interview on Talk2Dunni, where she opened up about her strong dislike for kissing.
“I don’t kiss, oo. I haven’t kissed in my life. If someone tries it with me, we will fight,” she said.
She explained that even in marriage, she never allowed her husband to kiss her, so the idea of kissing anyone else — even in acting — is completely off limits.
“When even my husband can’t bring his lips to kiss me, and I agree, who will I now do such with?” she added.
Police in the Bunkpurugu Yonyoo District of the North East Region have arrested four individuals in connection with the murder of a 70-year-old woman who was accused of being a witch.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 15, the police said the suspects fled Sangbana village after the incident but were later apprehended through intelligence-led operations at separate hideouts. Several other suspects remain at large.
The arrested individuals will be arraigned before court upon completion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the police have cautioned residents of the North East Region to desist from accusing others of witchcraft and subjecting them to physical violence.
Sammi Awuku is a Member of Parliament for Akuapem North
The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has criticised the government’s decision to scrap fuel allowances and allocations for all political appointees, describing it as a populist move and a mere public relations gimmick.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, he challenged the government to take decisive and meaningful action if it is truly committed to the directive.
“If the President really wants to show commitment to cutting down on fuel allowances, I challenge him to shut down the fuel depots at the Castle and Jubilee House. That would mean they are no longer taking fuel for free,” he said.
Awuku also expressed concern over the lack of clarity surrounding the directive.
“Does it include ministers? Does it include CEOs? Does it include presidential staffers? Who exactly are considered political appointees? Are we just talking about ministers and their deputies, or does it cover CEOs as well?” he queried.
He demanded transparency regarding the financial implications of the policy.
“Does this mean fuel for any political appointee is completely scrapped? Are they saying the money used to provide fuel will be refunded, or that appointees will now have to pay for it themselves? We need clarity. Furthermore, how much is currently being spent on fuel allowances, and how much will be saved through this policy? These are serious questions that deserve answers.”
He continued, “If the Minister of Communications drives from here to Ada or Ningo-Prampram on government business, will the fuel used for that trip, made in a state-owned vehicle, be reimbursed, or are we saying there won’t be any fuel support at all?”
Awuku concluded, “I just see this as populist. It’s a public gimmick and clearly a case of PR spin. That’s how I see it.”
President Mahama has directed the immediate cancellation of fuel allowances and fuel allocations for all political appointees, as part of broader measures to reduce government expenditure.
The move is aimed at redirecting public funds to priority areas, while demonstrating that national leadership is willing to share in the sacrifices being demanded of citizens.
“The President believes that leadership must also bear its share of the sacrifices it is calling on the people to make,” a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister in Charge of Government Communications, said.

Accra, July 15, GNA- Dr. Johnson Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), has highlighted the persistent volatility of the Ghanaian Cedi despite its recent appreciation against major trading currencies.
The Governor noted that while the Cedi has appreciated by 42 per cent year-to-date as of June 2025, it remained exposed to significant volatility risks.
Speaking at the Graphic Business and Stanbic Breakfast Meeting in Accra, on the theme: “Sustaining Forex Gains: Business and Economic Impact,” the Govenor said that the cedi’s vulnerability stemmed from Ghana’s heavy reliance on a few commodity exports to bolster its current account and foreign reserve strength.
Dr. Asiama pointed out that Ghana’s top export earners gold, cocoa, and oil were highly susceptible to price fluctuations driven by external factors beyond the government’s control.
“For instance, gold prices, which have significantly boosted our export earnings, are currently above US$3,200 per ounce, influenced by geopolitical uncertainty, including the recent Iran-Israel conflict. While beneficial for now, a future price correction could swiftly narrow our trade surplus,” he said.
He further explained that Ghana’s import profile was heavily skewed towards energy, capital goods, and essential commodities, creating seasonal spikes in foreign exchange demand, particularly in the second half of the year.
“Without diversification, even minor shifts in global sentiment or commodity cycles can trigger renewed pressure on the Cedi,” the Governor said.
Dr. Asiama also stressed additional risks, particularly behavioural and policy dilemmas.
He highlighted the delicate balance the central bank must strike between maintaining forex stability without over-tightening liquidity, which could stifle private sector credit and economic growth.
The Governor said the true measure of success was in whether Ghana could translate forex stability into broad-based economic transformation.

The National House of Chiefs has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take immediate and decisive action to address the escalating threat of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, across the country.
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of the National House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso in the Western North Region, expressed deep concern over the public health risks posed by galamsey, particularly to newborns in affected communities.
Speaking at a durbar held during President Mahama’s ‘Thank You Tour’ of the region on Tuesday, July 15, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II highlighted the increasing number of health complications being reported in communities located near illegal mining sites—many of them linked to contaminated water sources.
“Galamsey is seriously impacting our water bodies and causing illnesses. I know the President has made several commitments to fight this menace. We acknowledge your efforts, but the situation is urgent. We must curb galamsey now to prevent the outbreak of disease,” he said.
He further emphasised that health facilities in galamsey-prone areas are recording alarming cases of illness, including complications affecting fetuses. He pledged the full support of traditional authorities in the fight against illegal mining.
“We, as chiefs, promise to support you in curbing the menace,” he assured.

The Ajumako District Police Command has launched a manhunt for a woman believed to be in her early 50s, who was captured on CCTV allegedly stealing an 11-month-old baby from the Ajumako market in the Central Region.
The disturbing footage, retrieved from a CCTV camera installed at the market centre, shows the woman walking away briskly with the infant after luring the baby’s caregiver into a conversation.
According to the child’s mother, Esi Sekyiwaa, she had left the baby in the care of her sister-in-law while selling cassava at the market.
The suspect reportedly approached the caregiver under the pretense of offering help, but took advantage of a moment of distraction to flee with the child.
“When I returned and asked for my baby, my sister-in-law told me the woman had taken her. We were shocked,” the distraught mother told Adom News, breaking down in tears.
Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, family members confirmed that the woman was seen leaving the market with the baby.
They suspect the woman may have come from Winneba, Apam, or Mankessim and have called on the police and the general public to help locate her and rescue the child.
The Ajumako police are appealing to anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station to assist with investigations.
Accra, July 15, GNA – Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, has called for equitable distribution of jobs across regions to promote inclusive growth and national development.
He said concentrating employment opportunities in capital cities while neglecting underserved communities could “sparrow conflicts.”
Speaking at the 2nd Sahel Peace Initiative (SPI) National Forum in Accra, Dr Boamah assured that recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces and jobs under the 24-Hour Economy Programme would reflect regional equity.
“No matter the number of jobs that will be created, the number of jobs that will be generated, if they are not equitably distributed and they are concentrated in just the capitals, that inequality will in itself sparrow conflicts in communities that violent extremists and terrorists would want their activities to thrive,” he said.
The Forum, organised by the National Catholic Secretariat in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), was on the theme: “Political Economy of Conflict in Ghana: Addressing Youth Unemployment as a Catalyst for Security and Social Cohesion.”
Dr Boamah pledged support for the Sahel Peace Initiative and called for greater awareness of the crisis in the region.
“We need to listen to the people on the ground. We must engage them in security planning and decision-making. By doing so, we can build trust and promote a sense of ownership of the ingredients that must end up giving us,” he said.
According to the World Bank, over 110,000 Ghanaian youth graduate annually, yet more than 12 per cent are unemployed and four times that number are underemployed.
Dr Anthony Yaw Baah, Executive Director of the Kaizen Institute for Labour Economics, said over one million young people were unemployed and warned the figure could rise sharply by 2030 “if we don’t do anything radical.”
He called for national consensus to sustain job-creation programmes, backed by social contracts between citizens and government.
“Employment creation should be at the centre of our social policies. It should be the priority of our priorities,” he said.
Ms Anna Lena Sabroso-Wasserfall, Country Director of KAS, said Ghana’s stability in the Sahel region did not make it immune to conflict.
She described youth unemployment as both a development and political issue and urged strategic initiatives to create sustainable jobs for the region’s growing youth population.
“If we want to build lasting peace across borders, we must tackle the root causes that transcend borders. And if we are serious about peace building, the youth cannot remain on the sidelines,” she said.
Most Reverend Matthew K. Gyamfi, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, said youth unemployment was “a matter of national security.”
“We cannot ignore the disaffection of a jobless graduate,” he said, adding: “A nation’s cohesion is not shaped by slogans but well-articulated policies.”
New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organizer Sammy Awuku has denounced President John Mahama’s cancellation of fuel allowances for political appointees as a “populist public relations stunt.”
In a media interview, Awuku demanded concrete transparency measures to validate purported cost savings, challenging the government’s fiscal sincerity.
“The directive lacks substance without shutting fuel depots at the Castle and Jubilee House primary sources for officials’ fuel,” Awuku stated. He insisted the government must disclose annual allowance expenditures and define which positions qualify as “political appointees,” noting varied contractual entitlements for CEOs and public servants.
Awuku’s critique follows the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers’ (COPEC) initial praise for the policy, which aims to redirect funds under Mahama’s “Reset Agenda.” He dismissed the move as theatrical without verifiable savings metrics: “Where are the figures? Without them, this is mind games.”
The Presidency has not yet responded. The dispute highlights deepening partisan divisions over austerity measures under the National Democratic Congress administration.
The Ambassador of Mexico to Ghana, Norma Ang Sanchez, paid a courtesy visit to the National Sports Authority (NSA) boss, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, on Monday, July 14, 2025, to discuss a potential collaboration that could boost Ghana’s sports sector and tourism industry.
According to Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the visit marks a positive development for Ghana’s sports sector, particularly as the country gears up for the World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Comoros.
“We’re very honored to have hosted the Ambassador of Mexico,” Ankrah stated.
“Ghana is in a good position to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Mexico for the third time, the USA, and Canada.”
The NSA boss emphasized his office’s shift towards sports tourism, highlighting Mexico’s rich cultural heritage as a valuable asset for potential collaboration.
“As you can see, the NSA is tilting more closely to sports tourism than we have in the past, and Mexico has a rich culture, rich history of culture,” Ankrah noted.
The meeting culminated in the signing of a sports collaboration document, which Ankrah described as a “sports collaboration culture, sports tourism document.”
He added that further discussions would be held at the embassy to explore the details of the partnership. “Yes, it’s a private love letter, but it’s a sports collaboration culture, sports tourism document which they will look at and then we’ll go to the embassy to have further discussions on that,” Ankrah explained.
This potential partnership between Ghana and Mexico could significantly enhance Ghana’s sports infrastructure, promote cultural exchange, and foster cooperation between the two nations.

Rising Ghanaian rapper, Awal Muhammed, has opened up about the challenges he’s facing in the music industry, disclosing that he feels rejected by many industry players.
In a candid interview on Hitz FM, Awal expressed his frustration, saying, “Most people think I have a problem with Sarkodie and that also affects me.”
According to him, this belief has made it difficult to secure collaborations and support from key figures in the industry.

He mentioned rapper, Kofi Mole, as someone who used to be close with him when he was relatively unknown, but now appears distant.

Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe is suing the club for alleged negligent medical advice.
The 27-year-old, who joined Burnley earlier this month, filed a legal claim with the High Court against United last week.
It relates to a period from July 2022 involving an unknown injury and is considered a high value claim, which is understood to be more than £1m.
Tuanzebe was out for 195 days in his final season at the club before he was loaned to Stoke in January 2023, where he made just five appearances.
He joined the club when he was eight, making his debut in 2017, and played 37 times for them before leaving in the summer of 2023, joining Ipswich as a free agent that September.
The right-back captained United at every level and his final appearance for the club was in the 2021 Europa League final loss to Villarreal, where he scored in the shootout as they lost 11-10 on penalties.
The former England Under-21 international – who now represents DR Congo – also had three spells on loan at Aston Villa, while he also spent time at Napoli in 2022.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Jacob Adongo Atule, has advocated for the enactment of a Legislative Instrument (LI) to mandate a minimum 5% employment quota for persons with disabilities (PWDs) across both public and private institutions in Ghana.
Speaking during a stakeholder engagement on Tuesday, July 15, under the theme “Championing Inclusivity Among Young People with Disabilities,” he stressed that despite national efforts and ongoing conversations about inclusion, PWDs continue to face significant exclusion, particularly in employment and leadership roles.
He emphasised that the proposed LI would provide the necessary legal framework to ensure compliance and hold institutions accountable for meeting inclusive employment targets.
Mr. Atule further revealed that participants at the forum strongly supported the idea of translating the policy proposal into law, noting that many highly educated individuals with disabilities remain unemployed, underscoring the urgency for legislative action.
“Persons with disabilities have commended His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for including in his budget proposal a provision to reserve 5% of jobs for persons with disabilities. Speaking at a forum, they called for this commitment to be backed by legislation, urging Parliament to pass a law that enforces the quota to ensure access to decent employment.
“Many of them noted that despite having completed university, they remain unemployed. They are therefore advocating for President Mahama and Parliament to formalise this provision into law to help secure meaningful job opportunities for persons with disabilities,” he said.
The government has rolled out an official order requiring all machinery used in mining operations to be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) by 1st August.
A statement issued by the Ministry of the Interior on Tuesday, July 15, states that the state will go ahead to confiscate unregistered mining equipments after the deadline.
Accra, July 15, GNA- At a glance, the transformation might seem modest: a Cleaner, more conscious of disinfection routines, a Nurse adhering to protocols for wound dressing, or a Medical Officer being more attentive to patient interactions and documentation.
But beneath these subtle changes lies a quiet revolution, SafeCare, which is impacting Ghana’s healthcare system – one facility, one worker, one patient at a time.
“It may be the best hope yet for improving the quality of healthcare in Ghana,” According to the internationally certified SafeCare assessors, who recently participated in the SafeCare Assessor Refresher Training in Koforidua. It was under the theme: “Consistency, Integrity, and Excellence: Elevating SafeCare Assessment Process for Facilities’ QI”.
Silently and gradually, SafeCare is helping to shape quality in healthcare delivery in Ghana. SafeCare was introduced to Ghana in 2011 but took off on a larger scale through the strategic partnership with the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) and PharmAccess in 2019.
Through the partnership, selected healthcare professionals are trained to become Internationally Certified SafeCare assessors, utilizing the SafeCare standards to assess CHAG member facilities and supportingthem through improvement initiative using the digitally enabled quality improvement approach.
Healthcare facilities networks using the SafeCare programme get their facilities introduced to a system for measuring, improving and benchmarking quality using ISQuaEEA accredited standards.
The SafeCare standards are categorised into 13 service elements (covering both clinical and non-clinical areas).
The focus areas include Accident & Emergency Care, HIV, TB & Malaria, Infection Prevention, Mother & Child, Life & Fire Safety, Customer Care, Business Performance, Staff & Training, Stock Management, and Clinical Management.
Since its introduction in Ghana, healthcare organisations and networks such as CHAG, private healthcare partners and now Ghana Health Service (GHS), are using the SafeCare system to progress andimprove trajectories from low quality to high quality.
They are demonstrating that systemic improvement is possible even with limited resources.
“SafeCare has the key to unlock remedies to the quality challenges in our health sector,” says Dr. Jennifer Salman, a pediatrician at Sunyani Municipal Hospital.
“It’s more than guidelines and SOPs. It’s a way of thinking that transforms everyone in the healthcare facility – from the cleaner to the medical director.”
Training the Change Agents
The Assessor Refresher Training Programme, organised by PharmAccess, aims to empower individuals to become agents of change. Participants include doctors, nurses, pharmacists, hospital administrators, quality officers, all trained to use the SafeCare standards and improvement methodology to support healthcarefacilities with the provision of safer, efficient and more compassionate care.
“As a nurse, I used to think quality improvement was just about bedside care,” says Severa Kyeremaa, a paediatric nurse specialist from the CHAG network and a SafeCare certified assessor. “But SafeCare helped me understand that even cleaners and orderlies contribute to patient outcomes.
“Now I walk into a facility with confidence, knowing I have the tools to help close quality gaps.” For many, the training was an eye-opener. It pushed health professionals out of their silos, encouraging them to engage with broader aspects of service delivery.
This is from governance, management, procurement & resource management, care coordination to data systems and waste management.
“SafeCare takes you beyond your area of specialisation,” says Benjamin Amoa-Menyah, another SafeCare certified assessor and a specialist ENT nurse, from the CHAG network.
“You start thinking about laboratory, pharmacy processes, documentation -things that seemed outside your role before. It sharpens your practice.”
A Proven Model, A Growing Movement
The success story with CHAG is proof of concept. Since 2019, SafeCare has helped the faith-based facilities adopt and integrate a culture of continuous improvement.
Under the guidance of the CHAG Director for Quality, Dr Abraham Baidoo and with the support of dedicated professionals at the newly set up Quality Hub, CHAG has embedded the SafeCare approach as a major strategic direction to support effective and efficient service delivery among member facilities.
“We have institutionalised SafeCare within CHAG, and the results are evident,” says Dr. Baidoo. “Our facilities are safer, better managed, and more accountable. It is no surprise that Ghana Health Service has adopted the same model. We are proud to share what we’ve learned.”
The Ghana Health Service began a small-scale rollout of the SafeCare Programme in the Savannah and Bono East regions in 2022. In a one-year period, several facilities recorded significant quality gains.
Subsequently, after expansion into 100 other healthcare facilities in additional regions, four of the facilities have obtained SafeCare Level 4 quality rating in 2024. This is a leap that would have seemed impossible without the programmes’ structured guidance powered by digital innovation.
The Ghana Health Service is looking to scale the SafeCare system to all healthcare facilities of the Service using local ownership approach.
“We have moved from fragmented quality initiatives to a system-wide framework,” explains Joyce Amponsah, who works with the Quality Assurance Department at the Ghana Health Service Institutional Care Division.
“SafeCare has made it possible to track real progress, not just intentions.”
Restoring Trust, Raising the Bar
With healthcare organisations becoming more sensitive to medico-legal issues and striving to gain public trust, the SafeCare system is helping facilities to restore confidence of patients, communities and healthcare professionals.
“SafeCare is not just a checklist,” says Bonifacia Benefo- Agyei, Country Director for SafeCare Ghana. “It is a culture of integrity. Our assessors are trained not just to evaluate, but to inspire change.”
“When patients know that every step of their care is being guided by internationally recognised standards, it creates trust,” adds Dr. Maxwell Antwi, Country Director of PharmAccess Ghana.
“Our goal is for every Ghanaian to feel safe seeking care here, not to feel they must go abroad for better service.”
The growing SafeCare movement is also aligned with Ghana’s national commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) – not just coverage in numbers, but care that is safe, equitable, and effective.
What’s Next: Building for the Long Term
The Certified Assessors will continue to work across Private, CHAG and GHS network of facilities to evaluate quality performance, support improvements, and track facilities’ progress through SafeCare’s digital assessment tools. But the work doesn’t stop there. SafeCare’s ultimate promise lies in its sustainability -training teams who can train others, embedding standards into daily operations, and changing mindsets from the inside out.
SafeCare has transformed my approach to work,” says Dr Salman. “I now view quality not merely as a target to achieve, but as a responsibility to maintain.” This sentiment resonates with the experiences of nearly every health worker who has adopted the SafeCare model. For them, it is not just about improving scores, it is about elevating standards. And in doing so, fostering hope.
