Why Adwoa Safo relocated her children abroad

While it was not her desire to have her children live abroad while she remains in Ghana, circumstances left her with no other choice than to live with such a difficult situation.

This decision stemmed from repeated calls from Sarah Adwoa Safo’s children’s school principal, alerting her about unknown drivers attempting to pick up her children from school.

The former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya and former Minister of Gender said events like the one above compelled her to relocate her children abroad several years ago.

She explained that her children’s safety was at risk due to her exposure as a public figure in politics.

She recounted instances where the school principal would call to confirm whether she had sent drivers to pick up her children.

In an interview with Okay FM, she stated that, “It wasn’t deliberate that I took my children abroad. My children are abroad because of sacrifices I made for the party, while I live here. During the chaos of the 2012 Election, which led us to court, I was constantly accompanying Nana Akufo-Addo to court proceedings.

“… One day, I received a call from my children’s school principal informing me that someone claiming to be a driver had come to pick them up. I told him I didn’t know the person and instructed him not to release my children. That was the second time such an incident had occurred,” the former MP said.

Reflecting on these dangers, she said she realised they were all politically exposed. For the sake of her children’s safety, she decided to relocate them abroad to avoid waking up to tragic news someday.

“After reflecting on these dangers, I realized that both their father and I were politically exposed. For the sake of the children, it was in their best interest to relocate abroad, ensuring we wouldn’t wake up to tragic news one day. Politics is a dirty game, and that’s why my children now live abroad while I remain here,” Adwoa Safo remarked in the interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese.

Guide Sports Xtra Team Discuss Black Stars Preparations

0

As the Black Stars gear up for their crucial FIFA World Cup qualifying match today, Guide Sports Xtra host Ben Osei Bonsu (BOB) and sports analyst, Stephen Kwaku Asare (V-Pawa) discussed preparations so far.

During the discussion, V Pawa delved into the team’s preparations and the key factors that could determine their performance.

“We must go through the pain of watching the AFCON (in Morocco) on TV because our beloved Black Stars will not be there,” said V Pawa, referring to Ghana’s failure to qualify for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. “We must ensure that we don’t add salt to injury by not qualifying for the World Cup,” he added.

He highlighted the involvement of the current government’s administration, including the Sports Minister, in ensuring the team is well-supported, noting the importance of adding a psychologist to the technical team to help address any lingering psychological issues that may have affected the team’s previous performances.

However, V Pawa emphasized the need for the players to show maturity and unity, rallying behind the team’s captain and focusing on the national agenda.

“As the team prepares for their first match in Accra, the spotlight will be on the technical team’s decisions, particularly in the goalkeeping department and the deployment of key players like Antoine Semenyo and Inaki Williams. The experts believe the coach’s ability to adapt and get the best out of these players will be crucial to the team’s success,” he added.

Ahead of the pre-match conference, fans and analysts alike will be eager to hear the team’s strategies and the players’ mindset as they aim to secure a spot in the World Cup. The Black Stars’ performance in these crucial qualifiers will undoubtedly be a defining moment in their quest to return to the global stage.

‘We will do everything to stay top of Group I’ – Otto Addo

0

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has shifted focus to Ghana’s crucial clash against Madagascar after his team’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Goals from Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Mohamed Salifu, and Ernest Nuamah secured all three points for the Black Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium, propelling them to the top of Group I with 12 points — two ahead of second-placed Madagascar, whom they face on Monday, March 24, in Morocco.

Speaking after the game, Otto Addo stressed the importance of maintaining their position at the top of the table.

“It’s always easier when you’re on top. We want to stay there. We will try to do everything to beat Madagascar on Monday to keep the top spot,” he noted.

He also acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming fixture but emphasised the need to stay focused.

“There’s nothing we can do [about the fixture schedule]; we have to accept it. It will be tough; they [Madagascar] have a really good team,” he said.

Addo further highlighted the urgency of preparations ahead of the game.

“The preparations start now, and it’s good that we won so we can focus on Madagascar,” he added.

A win in that match would further solidify the Black Stars’ place at the top and move them closer to securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Thomas Tuchel’s first England game: Five talking points from Wembley win

0

Before the game Tuchel created plenty of headlines when he said England looked like they had played with fear at Euro 2024 under his predecessor Gareth Southgate.

He also suggested he wanted them to play Premier League-style physical football.

Known for his tactical flexibility, nobody was quite certain what formation Tuchel would opt for – but he sent England out in a 4-2-3-1.

While Tuchel’s teams are normally known for their intensity and pressing, it was hard for England to show either against a team who set up as defensively as Albania, especially in the first half.

And the German is also still in the early stages of his reign – having only met his players four days ago for the first time since officially taking over in January.

“Thomas Tuchel’s had the squad for three days – you can’t expect to see a different England team,” said former Three Lions midfielder Leon Osman on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“We won the football match. Once we got ahead there was no urgency.

“We want to be entertained. There is a certain element of control which is good in tournament football.

“At the minute we’re not in a tournament, we want to be entertained.”

England had 74% of the ball and 12 shots to Albania’s three – with the hosts recording all six efforts on target in the game.

In the opening 45 minutes they completed 437 passes, the most on Opta’s records of any England first half.

The visitors did try to play more after the break, but England’s backline were only tested a few times by substitute Armando Broja.

The result itself was routine – new England manager or not. The Three Lions are unbeaten in 38 home qualifiers for World Cups or Euros since November 2007, with 34 wins.

“It was a difficult game from a spectating perspective,” said former England defender Matt Upson on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Once we got into the rhythm, it was very much an England game at Wembley against inferior opposition where they struggled to break them down.

“We are all wanting to see how Thomas Tuchel’s plan is going to happen.

“There are so many questions, but ultimately they have to manage the game itself and England did that well.”

Upson added that Tuchel probably learned to “understand what it feels like and looks like tactically” to play against a team in a low block like Albania’s.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has expressed worry over the surge in illegal mining activities in the country popularly known as galamsey.

He noted that such individuals involved in such activities carry out attacks on civilians including forest guards without any justification

According to a report by myjoyonline.com, he made these remarks while speaking at a Regional Police Commanders’ Conference on Friday, March 21, 2025.

He charged Regional Commanders to step up their efforts to tackle the menace, underscoring its impact on the environment.

“This lawlessness must not be allowed to continue. We are declaring war on illegal mining, and I expect every regional commander to take decisive action, to bring perpetrators to justice,” he stated.

As part of government’s effort to fight illegal mining, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, announced on March 17, 2025, the commencement of a four-week training program for the first batch of 460 Blue Water Guards.

Firefighters still at scene, battling residual fires

0

Firefighting teams are still on-site battling residual fires following a blaze that erupted in the early hours of Friday, March 21, 2025, at Adum, the central business district in Kumasi.

The fire caused significant damage to several shops, prompting an immediate response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) which continued their efforts into the evening to control and extinguish the blaze.

At one point in the evening, the firefighters exhausted their water supply and had to return to the station for a refill before resuming their efforts to suppress the remaining flames.

In addition to the firefighting challenges, law enforcement arrested two individuals suspected of attempting to loot goods from the affected shops during the chaos.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities working diligently to determine its origin.

Speaking to Channel One News’ Hafiz Tijani, the Ashanti Regional Fire Commander ACFO II Peter Tetteh, attributed the rapid spread of the blaze to the market’s congested layout, which hindered effective access to the affected shops.

He emphasized the importance of traders adhering to fire safety guidelines to prevent such incidents and expressed concern over the limited accessibility for emergency responders.

Drawing a comparison, ACFO II Tetteh highlighted the Kaneshie Market’s strict enforcement of safety protocols, noting its resilience against fire outbreaks.

He advised the management of the market to enforce laws to prevent future occurrences.

“We don’t live here with you, you are doing your business, when we educate you, you accept the message and do the right thing. The management of this area must set rules of engagement for them. You know Kaneshie, since Kaneishe market was built they have never experienced a fire, because they have strong rules of engagement,” he said.

The commander also noted that earlier access to heavy machinery could have expedited firefighting efforts, mentioning that excavators were brought in later to create pathways for firefighters.

“It’s only this evening that the excavators came, we could have finished this job if we had had the excavators in the morning,” he stated.

He assured that fire personnel would remain on-site overnight to safeguard merchandise and restrict access until investigations are concluded.

Additionally, ACFO II Tetteh confirmed that some of the individuals who sustained injuries during the incident have received treatment and been discharged.

President John Dramani Mahama visited the scene to assess the damage and engage with affected traders, pledging government support to those impacted by the disaster.

He also advised traders to avoid cooking and using gas cylinders within market premises to mitigate fire risks.

Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has revealed that over 107 foreign nationals have been repatriated since he assumed office, following their involvement in illegal mining activities, known as galamsey, and fraudulent practices.

The announcement underscores the government’s commitment to addressing these issues and safeguarding Ghana’s resources.

Speaking at the Regional Command Conference at the Police Headquarters on Friday, March 21, 2025, Muntaka stated “Since I became the Minister of the Interior, we have returned over 107 citizens of other countries that we have found in fraud and in galamsey activities.”

Black Stars’ 5-0 win made dinner better, but stay focused!

0

President John Dramani Mahama has lauded the Black Stars following their emphatic 5-0 victory over Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, celebrating the team’s performance while cautioning against complacency.

In a social media post after the game, President Mahama expressed his delight, humorously noting that the impressive win gave him a “good appetite for dinner.”

“Congrats guys! Let this victory not make us complacent. This should be the beginning of bringing back the LOVE,” he wrote, calling for sustained momentum as the team prepares for its next fixture.

With Ghana’s qualification hopes still in the balance, the President urged the Black Stars to remain focused ahead of their upcoming clash against Madagascar, emphasizing the need for consistency in their World Cup campaign.

His message echoes the growing optimism among Ghanaians, who are eager to see the national team return to the global stage after missing out on the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars will now shift their focus to their crucial encounter against Madagascar, with hopes of building on their dominant performance and strengthening their push for a spot at the 2026 World Cup.

Ebo Buckman slams NPP leadership, accusing it of operating with lawlessness since 2007

A Communication Team Member of the Movement for Change, Ebo Buckman, has condemned the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) leadership, stating that if today’s NPP was the same as in 1992, he would never join it.

He accused President Akufo-Addo of promoting a culture of lawlessness when he assumed office in 2007.

Speaking on TV3 on March 21, 2025, Buckman said, “I joined NPP 1992. I’ve always said that if this NPP was the NPP of 1992, there was no way I would have joined. You see, this NPP has operated with a culture of lawlessness since Nana Addo took over in 2007. That’s the NPP we have now.”

He further lamented how internal party rules were disregarded, dissent was suppressed, and how impunity became the norm.

“His leadership ushered in an era where internal party rules were disregarded, people with dissenting views were suppressed, and arrogance and impunity became the norm in the party. Look at the way Afoko was forced out of the party, Kwabena Agyapong and all that. At that point in time, the party was practicing rule of man instead of rule of law.

“That is the fruit of the of the seed they themselves sowed in the past that they handed the party to an individual. That is why the party is suffering as we speak today. What is happening in the party is just the beginning,” he added.

Reacting to recent issues concerning the NPP, Buckman acknowledged the bold stance of former MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, particularly on corruption and alleged mismanagement of the School Feeding Program.

“As we move on, you see a lot of things… Adwoa Safo, I think she’s talking too much. People have spoken the same way, along the same line, except that she’s bringing out certain issues like the corruption issues like school feeding. And it’s making the party people uncomfortable because the general secretary has also said a lot of things. My own good friend, Ayew Afriye has said a lot of things – even former Majority Leader. They are all speaking but it is because she is bringing issues that is making them uncomfortable – the issue of corruption. That is why I’m saying that I like this, that bit of what she’s saying. She’s saying that she’s being honest that this government should investigate the issue of school feeding because there is a lot of rot in there,” he added.

Kumasi Dumsor: ‘Provide Solutions Not Rhetoric’

0

Collins Adomako, John Abdulai Jinapor

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako, has urged the Energy Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, to present practical solutions to the persistent power outages in Kumasi rather than engaging in rhetoric.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, March 19, during the debate on the 2025 Budget Statement, Mr. Adomako expressed disappointment at the minister’s failure to outline clear measures to resolve the worsening electricity crisis in the Ashanti Region.

He argued that businesses and households continue to suffer, and mere speeches would not alleviate their struggles.

Mr. Adomako emphasised that even the Energy Minister himself had recently acknowledged the severity of the power situation in the region.

“During the visit of the Minister himself (Energy Minister), he had cause to complain about the power situation in the Ashanti Region.

“So I was hoping that when the Energy Minister was on his feet debating, he would have sympathised with the businessmen whose cost of business has gone up and give concrete solutions to resolve the problem, but he failed,” he stated.

His remarks underscored the frustration of many residents and business owners who have endured prolonged and erratic power cuts, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor.’

The MP stressed that Kumasi, as a major economic hub, could not afford to operate under such unreliable power conditions.

He called on the Energy Minister to prioritise the needs of the people by implementing immediate and sustainable measures to stabilise the electricity supply.

He also questioned why, despite numerous assurances, the government had not been able to put in place effective interventions to address the issue comprehensively.

According to him, businesses are struggling due to increased operational costs caused by the erratic power supply, and this is negatively affecting the local economy.

No one should be treated as guilty until proven – Deputy A-G on arrest of Kwabena Adu Boahene

0

Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem Sai

The Deputy Attorney-General (A-G), Dr. Justice Srem Sai, has emphasised the importance of due process, cautioning against treating individuals as guilty before a court of law determines otherwise.

His remarks come in the wake of the arrest of the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Mr Boahene was apprehended at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) upon his arrival from London on a British Airways flight.

The joint operation, conducted at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, involved EOCO investigators led by Deputy Director Raymond Archer and officials from the Attorney-General’s Department.

In a Facebook post on Friday, March 21, Dr. Srem Sai disclosed that he had visited Mr Boahene and his wife, Madam Angela Adjei-Boateng, who are currently in custody assisting with investigations.

He noted that both individuals had access to legal representation and were being treated well.

Dr Sai stressed the need for fairness in legal proceedings, stating, “No one, regardless of the nature of the suspicion or accusations, should be treated as guilty until they’re actually proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.”
