VOA goes off air in Ghana, Nigeria, and others as Trump cuts funds

Voice of America goes off air in Ghana, Nigeria, and several other African countries Voice of America goes off air in Ghana, Nigeria, and several other African countries

The United States-funded Voice of America (VOA) has gone off air in Ghana, Nigeria, Niger, and several other African countries after President Donald Trump cut financial support to the global broadcaster.

The shutdown, first noticed by millions of listeners in northern Nigeria, sparked panic when music began playing in place of scheduled broadcasts, a haunting reminder in the region of military coups or political takeovers.

“People started calling in, worried that there had been a coup in America,” said Babangida Jibrin, a journalist who previously worked with VOA’s now-defunct Hausa-language service, as quoted by Daily Trust.

The station’s abrupt disappearance from the airwaves last month left stunned reporters scrambling to explain what had happened to their loyal audience.

Founded during World War II to counter Nazi propaganda, VOA later became a major player in Cold War-era broadcasting, offering an American perspective against Soviet disinformation.

Over the decades, it evolved into a beacon of credible journalism worldwide, especially in authoritarian regions where press freedom is under threat.

In northern Nigeria, where insurgency, banditry, and government corruption are part of daily life, VOA Hausa provided in-depth, unbiased coverage often missing in local media.

Its disappearance has now left a gaping hole in a media landscape already struggling with state repression and misinformation.

Critics blame Trump’s ideological war on independent institutions and his administration’s push to dismantle U.S.-backed international media.

The US president slashed VOA’s funding as part of a broader effort to bring the outlet under tighter political control, effectively killing off several regional language services.

Sahara Reporters also reported that more than 1,100 “Hands Off!” protests and meetings were scheduled to take place across all 50 states in the US on Saturday.

These were in response to the significant cuts to the federal workforce, reportedly overseen by Trump adviser and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

By Dennis Peprah

Sunyani, (Bono), April 6, GNA – Mr Mustapha Omar Copson, the Bono Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) at the weekend urged university students to leverage on the government’s one million Coders Programme to fetch themselves online jobs.

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance announced that the government has allocated GHC100 million to the National Coder’s Program, when he presented the 2025 budget statement to parliament in March.

Mr Copson, gave the advice when addressing the annual freshers summit (Akwaaba) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) branch of the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Sunyani.

The summit, on the theme, “Empowering the next generation: strengthening leadership and activism for a brighter future” sought to welcome and induct the ‘level 100’ students who were loyal members of the NDC into the Network.

Mr Copson, also Deputy Bono Regional Youth Organiser of the NDC indicated that the implementation of the Coder’s Program sought to train young people and students in web design, web hosting, and other such activities along the ICT value chain.

“So, as you are in school now, you can still leverage on that, browse through for online opportunities and to get decent jobs for yourselves,” he stated.

Mr Copson told the network that President John Dramani Mahama had prioritised job creation and youth employment, saying the National Apprenticeship Programme, which had received GHC300 million seed money reflected the commitment of the government to create more job opportunities for the youth.

He emphasised that the NDC and President Mahama was aware about the integral role the TEIN and other NDC youth wings played in the 2024 electoral victory of the party, saying “the NDC can’t leave the young people behind”.

“In fact, the role we played in the General Election had been rewarded because key elements of the 2025 budget are youth-centered policies that create life changing opportunities for all of us”, Mr Copson stated.

Describing the Coder’s programme as a home-grown policy, he said, “what we have to do is to identify what we can do, think outside the box, and come out with realistic business ideas”.

“Funding is not a problem under President Mahama’s administration and so let leverage on the government job creation interventions and opportunities and come out with real business ideas to access the funds and become real time entrepreneurs,” Mr Copson advised.

He said the YEA Directorate in the region was ever ready, prepared and opened to receive business ideas from the youth that could be translated into jobs.

Let’s defend, propagate achievements of our government — MCE Nominee

By Dennis Peprah

Sunyani, (Bono), April 6, GNA –The various Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been urged to always defend the party, and propagate achievements of the government.

Mr Vincent Antwi Agyei, the President Nominee for the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive who gave the advice, asked the student bodies to remain loyal and serve the party, encouraging them to make their presence felt in the party activities at their respective constituencies.

He said the TEIN remained the lifeblood of the NDC, assuring that the NDC would also reward their hard work accordingly.

Mr Agyei gave the advice when addressing the annual freshers summit (Akwaaba) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) branch of the TEIN in Sunyani.

The summit, on the theme, “Empowering the next generation: strengthening leadership and activism for a brighter future” sought to welcome and induct the ‘level 100’ students who were loyal members of the NDC into the Network.

Mr Agyei emphasised that the NDC acknowledged and appreciated the immeasurable contributions of TEIN towards the party’s electoral victory in the 2024 General Election.

However, he asked them to avoid complacency, instead continuing working hard in sensitizing the masses about the good policies of the government, as they also learn their books.

“In fact, you will never regret working for the NDC because the government will definitely reward you.
I was sacked by the previous administration in 2017 as the Public Relations Officer of the Municipal Assembly however my dismissal inspired me to work hard for the NDC.

I never dreamt of becoming a Municipal Chief Executive, but our President John Dramani Mahama just rewarded my hard work with that position,” Mr Agyei inspired the network.

The President Nominee said, “indeed hard work truly pays” and asked the network to remain faithful to the party, saying the government would also create opportunities for them too.

Describing the TEIN as the lifeblood of the NDC, Mr Seid Abdul Basit, the President of the branch, said the network played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of the NDC, and the future of the nation.

“As the youth wing of the NDC, TEIN is not just a student organisation, but the beating heart of youth activism, leadership and progress,” he stated, and stressed the network’s commitment to remain loyal and promote the course of the party.

NPP disciplinary committee summons Sarah Adwoa Safo

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo

The disciplinary committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has summoned the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo.

A letter from the party to the former legislator indicated that she is required to appear before its disciplinary committee on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down.

The letter stated that Adwoa Safo, a former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, is to appear before the committee to assist with an investigation into a matter currently under consideration.

“Pursuant to the directive of the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, you are hereby invited to appear before the Committee to provide assistance in an inquiry into a matter currently under its consideration,” part of the letter reads.

The party also stated that the former MP should provide evidence related to the matter being investigated, adding that she may appear before the committee with her lawyer.

“You are advised to present any documentary evidence or witnesses pertinent to the matter under investigation. Furthermore, you are entitled to legal representation during the proceedings should you so require. Kindly acknowledge receipt of this correspondence and confirm your attendance.

“The Party remains committed to upholding principles of transparency, fairness, and due process. Your cooperation in this regard is greatly appreciated,” it added.

Background:

The NPP referred former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to the National Disciplinary Committee of the party for anti-party conduct.

In a statement dated March 20, 2025, and signed by the General Secretary of the party, it was stated that Adwoa Safo is expected to set a good example and adhere to the principles of discipline, loyalty, and unity that define the party.

Her failure to do so contravenes Article 3(5) of the party’s constitution, hence the party’s action against her.

“Following the directives issued to all members of the New Patriotic Party to cease discussions on matters that create disaffection within the party in the media, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo’s comments in the media, particularly on the Pulse show on Joy News, are a clear contravention of the directive issued to all NPP members.

“As she is aware, the directive explicitly states that all party members must cease discussing party issues that create unrest, negativism, and disaffection in the media and other related platforms. Her actions are not only in disregard of this directive but also undermine the party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward,” part of the statement read.

The statement further explained that directives have been issued to all party members and leaders to refrain from making utterances that create disaffection within the party in the media.

Hence, Adwoa Safo’s recent media comments contravene this directive.

“As a former Member of Parliament, former Deputy Majority Leader, and former Minister of State under the erstwhile NPP government, she was expected to set a good example and adhere to the principles of discipline, loyalty, and unity that have always defined our great party.

“Her failure to do so not only reflects poorly on her but also contravenes Article 3(5) of the party’s constitution, which, among other things, enjoins us to promote and defend the good name of the party.

“In breach of the above provision of the party’s constitution and the directives issued earlier, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo is hereby referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the party for further action,” the statement added.

Adwoa Safo, in a recent media tour, expressed what she referred to as her long-endured unfair treatment, despite her previous apology to the party and her constituency after having family issues and abandoning her constituency for some months.

VOA goes off air in Ghana, Nigeria, others as Trump cuts off funding

0

The United States-funded Voice of America (VOA) has gone off air in Nigeria, Ghana, Niger, and several other African countries after President Donald Trump cut financial support to the global broadcaster.

The shutdown, first noticed by millions of listeners in northern Nigeria, sparked panic when music began playing in place of scheduled broadcasts, a haunting reminder in the region of military coups or political takeovers.

“People started calling in, worried that there had been a coup in America,” Babangida Jibrin, a journalist who worked with VOA’s now-defunct Hausa-language service, was quoted by Daily Trust.

The station’s abrupt disappearance from the airwaves last month left stunned reporters scrambling to explain what had happened to their loyal audience.

VOA’s Hausa service, a lifeline for millions of listeners in rural and conflict-prone areas of Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, and Niger, had become a trusted source of international and regional news, especially in places where local media is either censored, inaccessible, or compromised by state influence.

With internet access unreliable or non-existent in these regions, shortwave and radio broadcasts like VOA filled a crucial void.

“People are now cut off from the world, especially from critical international news,” lamented Moussa Jaharou, a listener from southern Niger.

He described the shutdown as a “deliberate silencing of the poor.”

Founded during World War II to counter Nazi propaganda, VOA later became a major player in Cold War-era broadcasting, offering an American perspective against Soviet disinformation.

Over the decades, it evolved into a beacon of credible journalism worldwide, particularly in authoritarian regions where press freedom is under attack.

In northern Nigeria, where insurgency, banditry, and government corruption are everyday realities, VOA Hausa provided in-depth, unbiased coverage that is often missing in local media.

SaharaReporters had also reported that over 1,100 “Hands Off!” protests and meetings were scheduled to take place across all 50 states in the U.S. on Saturday.

This was in response to the significant cuts to the federal workforce, reportedly overseen by Trump adviser and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

These nationwide demonstrations aim to voice opposition to the dramatic reductions in the federal workforce, which organisers believe are part of a broader effort to dismantle public services, including Social Security, Medicaid, and public education.

The protests are being organised by a coalition of over 150 organisations, including Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Service Employees International Union, and the American Civil Liberties Union, according to Yahoo News.

“Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them,” the organisers say on their website. “They’re taking everything they can get their hands on, and daring the world to stop them.”

A Desperate Attempt to Divert Attention from ECG Missing Containers and Scandals of the Previous Government

The recent press conference held by Rev. Ntim Fodjour, in which he made wild allegations of “Airmed Cocaine” and money laundering, has sparked public debate across the country.

However, a closer look at the circumstances surrounding this sudden outburst reveals a clear and calculated attempt to divert public attention from the very issues that Ghanaians are demanding accountability for — particularly the missing ECG containers scandal and the numerous unresolved corruption scandals associated with the previous administration.

Restaurants, chop bars urged to prioritise traditional cuisines

0

By Solomon Gumah

Tamale, April 05, GNA – Mr Abubakari Iddrisu Saeed, Northern Regional Director, Centre for National Culture, has emphasised need for restaurants and chop bars across the country to prioritise traditional cuisines on their menus to popularise the eating of nutritious local meals.

He said promoting traditional dishes was essential in preserving the Ghanaian culture and showcasing the country’s rich tourism potential, which could lead to job creation and business opportunities especially for the youth.

He made the call at the third edition of the traditional food exhibition, held in Tamale as part of activities to mark this year’s Ghana Month celebration.

The event, themed: “Display Your Cooking Pot,” was organised by the Centre for National Culture with support from Nkulenu Industries Limited and Tasty Tom.

The exhibition provided a platform for various groups to compete in cooking local dishes, allowing them to showcase their culinary skills while encouraging members of the public to embrace Ghanaian meals.

Mr Saeed said “We are gathered here to honour our rich and time-tested cultural heritage through one of its most essential elements, our traditional foods.”

He added that “Food is not just sustenance; it reflects who we are, where we come from, and the values we uphold. The dishes prepared and displayed here tell the stories of our ancestors, our communities, and the traditions that have shaped our identity.”

He urged the citizenry to embrace the diversity of local cuisines, engage in meaningful conversations about culture, and remain committed to preserving and promoting Ghana’s cultural heritage for future generations.

Six groups representing different ethnic backgrounds participated in the cooking competition.

They prepared dishes such as rice balls, tubani, local snacks, drinks, jollof rice amongst others, each showcasing the richness of their cultural backgrounds.

Mr Alhassan Abdul-Waris, a judge for the event, commended all participants for their exceptional culinary skills and encouraged them to keep improving.

Madam Susanna Sampana, Northern Regional Activation Representative of Tasty Tom, also urged members of the public to embrace traditional Ghanaian dishes to improve their overall well-being.

NPP calls for gov’t transparency on suspected drug and money laundering concerns

0

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the government to provide transparency and accountability regarding concerns over suspected drug trafficking and money laundering activities in the country.

The party has raised questions about the unexplained presence of two foreign aircraft in the country, AirMed flight N823AM and the Cavok Air Antonov An-12B.

In a statement released on Sunday, April 6, the NPP condemned the government’s response to concerns raised by the opposition.

“The NPP vehemently condemns the government’s intimidation of the minority, who have expressed valid concerns regarding the unexplained presence of specific foreign aircraft in Ghana, AirMed flight N823AM and the Cavok Air Antonov An-12B,” the statement read.
“Considering their origin, a satisfactory explanation of these aircraft’s mission in our country is required.”

The NPP expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the situation.
“Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu’s explanation regarding the aircraft’s presence and operations in Ghana has not met public expectations. His response was scanty and primarily defensive, deepening public suspicion and concern,” the statement read.

The NPP pointed out the strange circumstances surrounding the aircraft’s operations.

“Curiously, both aircraft developed faults while in Ghana. The story about the two jets is baffling, and the idea that the government will politicize citizens’ legitimate desire to know that the aircraft were not on an illegal mission reinforces the suspicion that the government’s explanation is contrived,” the statement said.

The NPP also highlighted that the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has urged the Ghanaian government to investigate the flights’ mission.

“The UN Office on Drugs and Crime has urged the Ghanaian government to investigate the flights’ mission,” the statement noted.

Additionally, the NPP demanded updates on two high-profile drug trafficking cases.

“In addition, we demand the government provide an update on the status of two major drug trafficking cases, the S350 million cocaine bust in Cape Coast and the S150 million cocaine seizure in Sekondi, allegedly belonging to a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” the NPP said.

The party criticised the government’s failure to address these cases effectively.

“The political explanation Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu offered failed to address the request for an update on these drug arrests,” the statement read. “The silence on these high-profile arrests undermines public trust, particularly given the alleged involvement of a senior member of the NDC.”

The NPP concluded by warning the government not to downplay the seriousness of drug trafficking and money laundering issues.

“We wish to caution the government that it should not trivialize issues concerning drug trafficking and money laundering, as we have witnessed thus far. These are matters of international interest, and Ghana’s credibility and compliance with international obligations are at stake,” the party said.

The party reiterated its commitment to holding the government accountable.

“We will not relent in our duty to hold this government accountable. Ghana deserves better.“

Provide accountability for suspected drug trafficking and flight incidents – NPP to govt

0

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strong call for transparency and accountability from the government over recent incidents involving two foreign aircrafts in Ghana, and a high-profile drug trafficking cases.

In a statement, the NPP condemned what it described as the government’s intimidation of minority voices raising legitimate concerns about the presence of AirMed flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B in the country.

The party questioned the aircrafts’ origin and mission, insisting that the public deserves a satisfactory explanation.

The NPP expressed concern that the government appeared to be politicizing public curiosity, warning that this approach only “reinforces the suspicion that the explanation is contrived.”

The party noted that the UN Office on Drugs and Crime had also called on the government to investigate the purpose of the flights.

Beyond the aircraft issue, the NPP demanded updates on two major drug trafficking cases—the $350 million cocaine bust in Cape Coast and the $150 million cocaine seizure in Sekondi.

The party claimed the government has failed to provide meaningful information on these matters, especially regarding alleged links to a senior member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“This silence on high-profile arrests undermines public trust,” the statement continued. “The government must not trivialize matters of drug trafficking and money laundering, as we have seen so far.”

The NPP urged security agencies to provide a detailed, professional account of the cargo and mission of the aircraft in question and called on the government to demonstrate seriousness in the fight against transnational crime.

Dr. Daniel McKorley, popular Ghanaian business mogul and Group Chairman of the McDan Group, widely known as McDan, believes that Ghanaian musicians Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are currently the most talented artists in Africa.

According to him, their stage performances and talents of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are exceptional, surpassing even most of Nigerian artists.

Speaking in an interview with NY DJ on BMT Afrika on YouTube, McDan emphasized that these artists deserve greater support from Ghanaians.

He urged businessmen to invest in them, describing musicians as ambassadors and highlighting music as a lucrative industry.

“I can tell you that Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are some of the most talented artists in Africa. I believe in my heart they need serious support. As a businessman, I see them as our ambassadors, and I feel we need to invest more in them. There are some young people coming up too. I’m not really in that space, but I can say that our musicians are ambassadors, and music is a big business,” McDan said.

“Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are my brothers. I am very close to them. Look, all these Nigerian boys—none of them come close to their talents. Though they are also talented, I am Ghanaian, so I have to speak for Ghana. Their stage presence and style of music are amazing, but I believe some of us need to get closer to them to offer support,” he added.

The business mogul reiterated that musicians serve as ambassadors and that music is a significant business.

However, he admitted that he cannot invest in the industry himself but is willing to support others who wish to enter it.

“It brings in a lot of money—where there’s good money, I smile—but it’s not my space. I’d like to stay back as a godfather, supporting people to get into that space. Not me directly, but guiding and supporting them with both finances and advice. You can’t be everywhere or do everything, but if you’re part of a system, you have to give people a chance,” he explained.

Scrap exam fees for basic pupils – Eduwatch

0

Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch) has condemned the practice of imposing examination fees on parents of pupils in public basic schools, highlighting concerns over the potential exclusion of students from assessments due to financial constraints.

With term-end examinations scheduled to begin on Monday, 7th April 2025, Eduwatch, in a statement dated April 5, revealed that some school heads are demanding fees for examinations and printing, threatening to bar pupils whose parents fail to comply.

While Eduwatch acknowledges the value of voluntary parental contributions towards school development, it insists that such contributions should align with policies governing free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (fCUBE).

Citing the Pre-Tertiary Education Act of 2020 (Act 1049), Eduwatch emphasised that basic education in Ghana is free, compulsory, and universal, with explicit provisions ensuring no child is excluded due to economic challenges.

The organisation reiterated its commitment to equity and denounced any practices that limit children’s full participation in education, particularly due to socio-economic factors.

Eduwatch has called on the Ministry of Education to ensure timely funding for school-based assessments and criticized the recurring reliance on fees to address systemic funding gaps.

The organisation stressed that this approach undermines effective implementation of government policies.

Additionally, Eduwatch urged the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to guarantee that no pupil is denied access to end-of-term examinations due to unpaid fees.

The statement further called for disciplinary measures against school heads who exclude students based on financial constraints.

Eduwatch concluded by emphasizing that the right to basic education is fundamental and unconditional, calling on the government to prioritise direct funding to uphold this principle.

Signed by the organisation’s representatives, the statement underscores the urgency of addressing the issue to safeguard equitable access to education for all Ghanaian children.

Joy in Atronie as Asantehene Approves Elevation to Paramountcy

Chief Of Atronie
Chief Of Atronie

The Chief of Atronie in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region, Diawusie Nana Amponsem Darko II, has expressed profound appreciation and joy on behalf of the Atronie Traditional Authority following the pronouncement by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, regarding the elevation of Atronie’s traditional status from Obrempong to Paramountcy.

Speaking during one of their weekly sittings, Diawusie Nana Amponsem Darko II reaffirmed that Atronie belongs to Otumfuo, including its land, waters, forests, and the powerful deity, Atronie Apomasu. He emphasized that as the overlord, the Asantehene has full authority to elevate their current traditional standing without seeking approval or consulting any neighboring paramount chiefs.

Highlighting Atronie’s distinct identity and historical autonomy, Diawusie Nana Amponsem Darko II noted that Atronie shares boundaries with Yamfo to the east, Sunyani to the north, Wamfie to the west, and Ntotroso to the south. However, he clarified that Atronie does not owe allegiance to any of these stools except Asanteman and, by extension, the Asantehene.

Providing a brief historical overview of Atronie’s origins and its longstanding affiliation with Asanteman, he recounted that the Atronie people originally came from Akyim Twereso.

Due to war, they migrated to Kumasi under the protection of the then Adumhene during the reign of Otumfuo Opoku Ware I in 1741. Recognizing their exceptional hunting skills, Otumfuo Opoku Ware I instructed the Adumhene to relocate them to Amoaman to continue their hunting activities.

They later moved to Subonpan before eventually settling at their current location. Upon arriving, they encountered a special breed of antelope called ‘Tromo’ in large numbers, which led them to name the area ‘Tromo Adidie’ (Tromo Feeding Place), a name that evolved into ‘Atronie’ over time.

Diawusie Nana Amponsem Darko II expressed optimism that their elevation to a paramountcy will bring significant development and prosperity to the Atronie township and its surrounding satellite communities. He listed some of these communities, including Antwikrom, Nwowasu, Atuahenkrom, Ohukrom, Adedase, and Ankamakrom, as key beneficiaries of the anticipated growth and progress.

Atroniehene said his Traditional Authority remains committed to working closely with Asanteman and the Asantehene to ensure that this new status translates into tangible benefits for its people, fostering unity, cultural pride, and sustainable development in the region.

IDEG submits key reform proposals to Constitution Review Committee

0

The Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) has presented a memorandum to the Constitution Review Committee (CRC), outlining key proposals for constitutional amendments and institutional reforms.

The presentation took place on Friday during a sitting of the CRC in Accra. IDEG’s memorandum highlights proposed reforms in four key areas: Local Governance, Political Parties, Public Service, and Public Enterprises.

Making the presentation on behalf of the Institute, Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey, Executive Director of IDEG, was accompanied by Professor Kwesi Jonah, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute.

Receiving the document, Professor H. Kwesi Prempeh, Chairman of the CRC, acknowledged IDEG’s long-standing commitment to research, advocacy, and policy development in the promotion of good governance and democratic practices in Ghana.

He expressed appreciation for IDEG’s active participation in the constitution review process and welcomed its contribution to the ongoing national dialogue.

The CRC, established by President John Dramani Mahama in January 2025 as part of his campaign pledge, is currently soliciting views and recommendations from citizens, institutions, and civil society organizations across the country.

With a six-month mandate, the committee is tasked with reviewing Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, addressing gaps, and providing actionable recommendations to the government. The exercise also includes revisiting earlier works, such as the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.

IDEG’s submission forms part of a broader national effort to strengthen democratic governance through inclusive and participatory constitutional reform.

Typical propagandist – Kwakye Ofosu clashes with Akosua Manu over aircraft inspection video

Akosua Manu and Felix Ofosu Kwakye Akosua Manu and Felix Ofosu Kwakye

Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Minister of Government Communications, has refuted claims made by Akosua Manu, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, regarding a video of an aircraft inspection.

Manu alleged that the controversial Covak aircraft’s tires burst while it was in the air.

The government had earlier released video footage of the inspection conducted on the Covak aircraft, which had been accused of carrying illicit substances upon its arrival in Ghana.

The footage showed a cargo consisting of oil drills and jerrycans of oil, imported for specific purposes, with officials seen working on a burst tire.

On April 6, 2025, Akosua Manu took to X (formerly Twitter) to question how the aircraft’s tire could have burst mid-air while in motion.

She accused the minister of attempting to mislead the public with the video.

“Staged!! A flight takes off and, while in the air, its tires get damaged?? Jokes. Simple questions are asked and within minutes your posture is unnecessarily rude and antagonistic. The matter still remains that over $400 million worth of cocaine has passed through this country in the first quarter. New York City can’t even record such high figures!

“Your former NDC parliamentary candidate was allegedly also involved in a $150 million bust—a case we know won’t go anywhere, given the fantastic ‘wipe-the-slate-spotlessly-clean’ approach the Attorney General has taken regarding any NDC person. This issue doesn’t wash away the historic quantum of drugs that has taken root in this country in just three months!” she fumed.

Kwakye Ofosu responded to the claims, slamming Manu for twisting facts to serve her propaganda agenda.

He clarified that the aircraft had a flat tire upon its arrival in Ghana, which forced a delay for repairs before departure.

He emphasised that the tire did not burst mid-air, as claimed.

“Typical propagandist. Shift the goalpost when exposed. You heard me clearly say in the video I posted on Thursday that the Air Med plane was here for refueling and crew rest but had a tire burst after landing, compelling them to stay a while for it to be fixed. Where did you hear anyone mention a tire burst in the air?” he wrote on X on April 6, 2025.

I don’t think Ghana will ever honour me like Real Madrid did for Di Stéfano – Rev Osei Kofi

0

Triple Ghanaian Olympian, Reverend Osei Kofi, has voiced his frustration over the lack of recognition despite his immense contributions to the country.

A pivotal figure in Ghanaian football, Osei Kofi played a crucial role in the Black Stars’ success, securing the AFCON title three times in 1963, 1965, and 1982.

In an interview, the three-time Ghana Premier League champion pointed to how Real Madrid honoured their legendary player, Alfredo Di Stefano, by naming one of their stadiums after him, giving him global recognition.

Osei Kofi expressed his desire for a similar tribute to be made in Ghana for former footballers who have greatly contributed to the Black Stars’ success on the international stage.

“Real Madrid honoured me with a match at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium. They made me feel like a legend. I asked myself, ‘When will I be honoured with a stadium in Ghana when I saw the Di Stéfano Stadium,” he told Sporty FM after receiving recognition from Real Madrid as one of Africa’s legendary football players.

Osei Kofi, who was the joint-top scorer of the 1965 Africa Cup of Nations held in Tunisia, and the third-highest scorer in the 1968 edition, hopes such acknowledgement will inspire future generations.

2 minutes read

The Ghanaian government has announced plans to urgently engage the United States over the newly imposed 10 per cent universal tariff on imports, including goods from Ghana, which took effect on April 5, 2025.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry, the government assured exporters and investors of its commitment to resolving the issue to avoid trade disruptions. “The Ministry as a matter of urgency, is also engaging relevant stakeholders to determine the extent of the effect and assess the full impact of the US tariffs on the country’s economy,” the statement read.

The high-level meeting, scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, will involve the Ministers of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry, Finance, and Foreign Affairs, who will discuss the implications of the tariffs with the US Ambassador to Ghana.

The tariffs, announced by the US on April 2, 2025, under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 (IEEPA), cite economic and national security concerns linked to global trade deficits. While the 10 per cent levy applies broadly, certain products—such as copper, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and critical minerals—are exempt.

Ghana’s export sector, particularly under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), stands to be significantly affected. AGOA provides duty-free, quota-free access to the US market for key Ghanaian products like apparel, cocoa derivatives, shea butter, and horticultural goods. The government is exploring strategies to mitigate the immediate impact on these exports.

The Ministry emphasized its dedication to keeping the private sector informed, stating, “The Government is committed to ensuring that the private sector is well informed on the details of the imposition to avoid trade disruption as well as ensure predictability of investment decisions in the country.”

30-year-old pregnant woman killed by truck, family demands justice

0

A 30-year-old pregnant woman, Susana Fosuaa Agyeman, has tragically died after an articulated truck with the registration number AS 636-14, carrying wood, struck and killed her.

The incident occurred around 4:30 PM on Friday, April 4, 2025, in Noberkow, in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region.

Her body was torn into pieces, with intestines, liver, and the unborn baby exposed, and blood oozing. Her remains were conveyed with a shovel and deposited at the morgue.

Williams Asare, an eyewitness at the scene, recounted, “We were seated at the Indomie vendor’s stall when we heard a loud noise. A speeding articulated truck came down the road and blew its horn once. At the same time, the pregnant woman got out of a taxi, and we shouted to her to move. She tried to step back but fell to the ground. The truck couldn’t stop and ran over her, causing a terrible accident.”

Her mother, Afia Fremah, medically unfit, is broken, shattered, and torn apart. She said, “The truck crushed onto my pregnant daughter, causing severe injuries. Her internal organs and unborn baby were exposed.

“Unfortunately, she died on the spot. She had gone to the market to sell goods when the accident occurred. The driver, responsible for her death, fled the scene. I hold him accountable and leave his actions to God.”

“My late daughter’s three young children are still in school, and their future is uncertain. As their grandmother, I’m struggling to care for them due to my poor health and financial difficulties. I’m humbly appealing to kind-hearted individuals and charitable organizations for support to help raise these children.”

Mr. Kofi Agyeman, Susuna’s father, is speechless. He also said, “We were deeply disturbed, stunned, and grief-stricken when we heard that our relative, a dedicated single mother who worked tirelessly to provide for her children, had been fatally struck by a vehicle.

“By the time we arrived at the scene, the police had already taken her body to the morgue. When we saw her lifeless body at the mortuary, it was a heart-wrenching moment that was hard to accept.”

Although the driver and his mate are on the run, Kwame Agala demands justice for his cousin.

“The owner and driver of the truck involved in the accident have not contacted us, and they appear to have fled the scene. It’s unclear whether they’ve surrendered to the police. We intend to take all necessary steps to seek justice for our deceased loved one and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”

How Ntim Fordjour is hiding behind NPP to erase Ghana’s progress and image

0

The NDC has denied any involvement in drug trafficking and money laundering, while accusing the NPP of making baseless claims to destabilize the government.

The allegations of drug trafficking and money laundering in the country, raised by Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have sparked intense debate and speculation about the motivations behind these claims.

FDA destroys 2.5 tons of unwholesome products

0

Residents of the Eastern Region witnessed a significant public health intervention as the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) safely disposed of approximately 2.5 tons of unwholesome products.

The exercise was conducted with the consent of product owners and under strict supervision.

The items destroyed included a wide range of products, drugs, cosmetics, canned foods, beverages, and medical equipment confiscated from information centres, supermarkets, over-the-counter medicine sellers, food retail joints, and pubs across the region.

The disposal exercise took place at the Akwadum dumping site near Koforidua, under tight security and expert monitoring to ensure public safety.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Anita Owusu-Kuffour, the Eastern Regional Head of the FDA, emphasized the Authority’s mandate to ensure the safety of all products under its regulatory scope. She noted that while the FDA actively monitors market products, manufacturers and vendors also have the responsibility to report unsafe or expired goods for safe disposal.

“The FDA seeks the services of the management of the landfill site and uses appropriate equipment to burn, bury, crush, or churn the non-conforming products to prevent the activities of scavengers,” she explained.

Specialized equipment, including excavators and bulldozers, was deployed during the destruction process to ensure thorough and environmentally safe disposal.

Owusu-Kuffour reiterated the FDA’s broader role in protecting public health by ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of human and veterinary medicines, vaccines, medical devices, and biological products. The Authority also regulates the safety of Ghana’s food supply, cosmetics, dietary supplements, radiation-emitting electronic products, and tobacco products.

The FDA’s latest operation underscores its ongoing commitment to ridding the market of harmful goods and ensuring consumer safety across the country.

According to the poll, the former vice president commands 48% of the overall vote in the prospective 2028 NPP leadership race.

His closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, garners 25%, while Dr Osei Adutwum follows with 13%. The remaining candidates collectively secure 14% of the votes.

Among NPP supporters specifically, Dr Bawumia’s lead is even more pronounced, with 57% backing him, compared to 22% for Kennedy Agyapong and 11% for Dr Osei Adutwum.

“Oversight isn’t child’s play” – Dr Aning urges parliament to use powers, not press conferences, in drug probe

0

The Director of the Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Dr Kwasi Aning has criticised the handling of recent drug trafficking allegations raised by Reverend Ntim Fordjour, urging Parliament to use its constitutional powers rather than holding press briefings.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Newsfile programme on Saturday, April 5, 2025, Dr Aning said Parliament possesses the authority, capacity, and mechanisms to scrutinise national security matters without resorting to public accusations based on suspicion.

He described such press conferences as premature and warned they could undermine public confidence in state institutions.

“The way forward… is about rebuilding trust, respect, and collegiality centred on what makes Ghana work best,” he told host Samson Lardy Anyenini. “This is a conversation that takes place in all parliamentary democracies, where the opposition may receive credible intelligence, but that intelligence is not first made public.”

Dr Aning outlined at least seven parliamentary procedures available to MPs for raising security-related concerns.

These include inviting ministers to answer questions on the floor, filing motions, delivering statements, reviewing quarterly expenditure reports, and visiting relevant institutions such as airports and security agencies.

He noted that Reverend Fordjour and his committee could have exercised these options rather than going public.

“Security oversight is serious business,” he said. “If the committee had concerns, they could have conducted in-camera hearings or used their powers to subpoena documents like flight manifests.”

Dr Aning emphasised that national security issues should be approached in a bipartisan manner.

“If resistance is met, then escalation may be necessary, but public accusations without evidence damage institutional trust,” he added.

He also referenced Ghana’s past involvement in the global narcotics trade, saying:

“About 13 percent of Europe’s cocaine once passed through Ghana. That is not something to take lightly, but allegations must be investigated properly and not made loosely.”

Dr Aning urged Parliament to approach its oversight responsibilities with gravity and professionalism.

“Parliament must act with authority, ability, and the right attitude,” he stated. “Oversight isn’t a child’s play.”

His comments follow recent claims by Reverend Ntim Fordjour, who alleged that suspicious flights linked to possible drug trafficking were landing at Ghana’s airports under the pretext of technical stops.

The government has since rejected the claims, describing them as baseless.

Kusaug youth disappointed in Mahama’s handling of Bawku conflict

0

President John Dramani Mahama has come under intense criticism from aggrieved Kusasi youth over the escalating tensions in the Bawku area.

According to the youth, they voted overwhelmingly for Mr Mahama in the belief that his administration would resolve the longstanding Bawku conflict— a promise he made during his campaign. However, they now accuse the President of abandoning their plight, with violence worsening and lives lost since he assumed office three months ago.

“Mr President, when we heard your promise to bring a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict, we were overwhelmed with hope and thought the NDC was our saviour. That is why Kusaug gave the NPP zero and voted massively for the NDC,” the group stated at a press briefing.

They added, “Mr President, you yourself acknowledged that the Overlord, Naana Asigri Azorka II, is the legitimate chief of Kusaug—and everyone knows that. So what has changed, Mr President? We never expected that it would take you so long to resolve the Bawku issue after we voted you into power.”

The group lamented the worsening security situation in the area, stating that rather than the promised peace, the region has seen increased bloodshed under President Mahama’s tenure.

“Your Excellency, did you know that since you assumed office as President, more than 18 people, including women and children, have been killed in this Bawku conflict? Is that what you intended, Mr President?”

Expressing deep disappointment, the youth accused President Mahama of using their support for political gain, criticising the tendency of politicians to exploit the Bawku conflict for votes without delivering genuine solutions.

“We now realise that politicians have been using the Bawku conflict for their own selfish political advantage. They keep deceiving us with false promises of peace just to win our votes.”

In a stark warning, the group hinted at possible electoral apathy in future polls.

“It will shock politicians to see empty ballot boxes in 2028 with not a single vote cast. We are tired of the lies and broken promises of politicians,” they concluded.

Skin disease outbreak leaves Mepe-Avetakpo residents in agony

0

The sub-divisional chief of Mepe Gbavie-Dekume, Togbe Kwasi Amedor III, has expressed concern over a communicable skin disease outbreak affecting many children and adults in Avetakpo enclave, a farming community in Ghana’s Volta Region.

According to the chief, the infected residents are experiencing sleep deprivation, acute, and prolonged bodily pains.

Despite the severity of the outbreak, he indicated that affected individuals are unable to access medical treatment due to a lack of funds.

Based on the request by the Queen Mother of the area, Mama Aku Seme II, officials from the Ho East District Health Directorate of Ghana Health Service (GHS) visited the area, but a budget of GH₵ 6,642.50 was set for the community to pay before treatment could begin.

Unfortunately, the community couldn’t raise the funds.

“We are pleading with the government to come to our aid because we are not able to raise the total of GH₵ 6,642.50 estimated budget,” Chief Togbe Amedor III stated.

He disclised that the disease has spread to neighboring communities, with over 46 people affected so far.

Togbe Amedor III is calling for immediate government intervention to support the community with funds for mass medical treatment.

He emphasized the need for contingency measures to prevent infections and maintain residents’ well-being.

The chief expressed frustration that health officials didn’t provide the actual name of the disease or its source, leaving the community uncertain about the situation.

The lack of access to clean drinking water, with residents sharing sources with cattle and animals, may be contributing to the outbreak.

The chief’s appeal highlights the need for government support to address the skin disease outbreak in Mepe-Avetakpi.

With the situation becoming increasingly serious, urgent action is required to provide medical treatment and prevent further spread of the disease.

He said that the organisers of the programme were ‘fabricating messages’ against him.

“Samson Ayenini, your producer has denied sending you those ‘fabricated messages’. So inform Ghanaians where you manufactured those smear messages you derogatorily read on your show.

“Where lies professionalism and ethics in journalism? Samson, these are the messages viewers sent onto #Newsfile. Where from the deliberately fabricated smear messages you read? None can be found in your feed,“ he wrote on X on April 6, 2025.

Meanwhile, a video of the Assin South legislator walking off the programme has gone viral.

In the said video, an animated Rev Ntim Fordjour could be fuming and issuing threats.

“We are raising matters and you are (sic)… I’m waiting for them to commit themselves… when I release the bombshells (sics),” he fumed.

One man is heard saying in the video, “Reverend this is a national issue, it is not a partisan issue.”

Background:

The MP for Assin South and the Minority’s Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee claimed at a press conference on April 1, 2025, that two flights, an air ambulance and a private jet, might have been involved in drug trafficking or money laundering.

He alleged that one of the aircraft, Air MED flight L823 AM, landed in Ghana on March 20 and stayed for five days without any record of transporting a patient.

These allegations led President John Mahama to order security agencies to “immediately and fully collaborate with the honourable Member of Parliament so he provides all necessary information to investigate the allegations and take all action necessary to expose any drug dealing.”

President Mahama also directed all security agencies to work with Rev Ntim Fordjour to investigate the drug trafficking and money laundering claims involving the two suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

He emphasised that Ghana has a zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking and will not allow the country to be used as a transit or final destination for illicit drugs.

As a result, all security agencies must act urgently to address the issue.

How Olivetheboy defied his father to defer from the university to pursue music

0

Ghanaian musician Olivetheboy has revealed that his father was unhappy with his decision to defer from university to pursue a music career.

According to his account, he was studying Business Administration at the University of Ghana, Legon, until he reached level 300, when he developed a strong interest in pursuing music.

The ‘GoodSin’ hitmaker explained that, in order to prevent his studies from being negatively affected, he made the bold decision to defer from the university. However, his father rejected the idea.

Speaking on The Delay Show on April 5, 2025, Olivetheboy stated that he disregarded his father’s advice to quit school and focus solely on music.

“I was at the University of Ghana Business School, studying Business Administration at level 300. I had to defer because there were many things I needed to do for my music career. To avoid disrupting my studies, I decided to defer and focus on other things. My father, who is a pastor, was not happy with my decision, but I didn’t care,” he told Deloris Frimpong Manso, also known as Delay.

The musician further shared that he intends to establish himself in the music industry before returning to complete his studies at the university.

“I will definitely go back to finish it. Probably within the next two years, I should be able to complete it. It’s because I want to solidify my brand before taking any break,” he added.

TOR to implement 24-hour shift system to boost terminal operations

0

The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has announced plans to implement a 24-hour shift system in its terminal operations.

The introduction of this system, as highlighted in the March 2025 edition of TOR’s newsletter, aims to enhance and streamline the refinery’s operations.

This move is part of a broader strategy to maximize the utilization of TOR’s assets and improve overall efficiency.

It is believed that the systematic roll-out of the three-shift system will initially focus on the loading gantry, a key area of the Refinery Terminal Operations.

The loading gantry plays a critical role in the refinery’s operations, where refined petroleum products are loaded onto tankers for distribution.

With the implementation of the 24-hour system, TOR’s management hopes to significantly enhance the terminal’s operations, increase productivity, and ensure a continuous supply of refined products to meet domestic demand.

The 24-hour system will be divided into three shifts, allowing staff to work in rotations around the clock. This will not only help TOR to operate more efficiently but also create employment opportunities by increasing the number of shifts and staff required to manage the operations.

The shift system forms part of a broader initiative by the government of President John Dramani Mahama to foster a 24-hour economic system in Ghana.

The government aims to encourage businesses and state institutions across the country to adopt shift systems, thereby increasing productivity and contributing to a more dynamic economy.

The Tema Oil Refinery is Ghana’s premier oil refinery. With an ideal refinery configuration and sufficient storage tank capacity, it ranks among the best refineries in Africa and plays a critical role in supporting the country’s economic growth and investment initiatives.

However, despite its strategic importance, operational risks and managerial challenges have left the refinery in disarray in recent years.

Issues such as outdated infrastructure, inconsistent maintenance, and financial mismanagement have hindered its full potential and led to fluctuating performance, thereby impacting its ability to meet the increasing demand for refined products.

Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has paid a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the king of the Ga Traditional Area.

The visit was an expression of appreciation for the king’s support following Asare’s recent call-up to the Black Stars.

In a Facebook post by Accra-based radio station Hot FM, Asare also sought the king’s blessings for the remainder of the football season.

Asare is currently the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper for the Black Stars, following an impressive debut with the national team in March 2024.

He kept two clean sheets in two matches against Chad and Madagascar during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, earning the trust of head coach Otto Addo, who has since named him the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.

After missing Hearts of Oak’s last two games, Asare has been named in the squad and is set to make his return in the upcoming match against Medeama on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

Is Marriage Really A Favour To Women?

0

Marriage has long been regarded as one of the most significant life events, a cultural cornerstone that brings two individuals together. However, the notion that marriage is somehow a favour to women has been a point of contention for many.

While some see marriage as an opportunity for women to settle into a more stable and fulfilling life, others question whether it perpetuates outdated societal expectations.

Deputy Energy Minister appeals for public help over missing ECG containers

0

Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan Mensah, has called on the public to assist with information regarding the disappearance of several containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), which are currently at the center of an ongoing investigation.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, April 5, Gyan Mensah addressed growing public concern over the loss of the containers, which were designated for ECG’s operations.

His appeal follows the establishment of an investigative committee tasked with probing the circumstances surrounding the missing containers. The committee’s preliminary report has sparked serious questions about ECG’s management of its logistics chain.

According to the findings, out of 2,491 containers expected to be cleared and distributed, 1,357 remain unaccounted for. These containers are said to contain critical equipment intended for ECG’s nationwide operations, but were reportedly left at the port for an extended period without clearance.

“Currently, the security agency has not given us a report within the last three days. I am very hopeful that when we start the new week, we will take a brief, and they will also be able to relay it back to the media,” Gyan Mensah stated, indicating the ministry had not yet received updates from security agencies.

He confirmed that arrests had been made in connection with the case, and those involved were cooperating with investigators.

“The arrested people have been handed over to the police and are currently under investigation. They have also disclosed where they bought [the equipment] from, and we are investigating everyone,” he said.

The Deputy Minister also suggested that more individuals may be brought in to assist with the probe and encouraged public cooperation.

“Even as Manager Dubik says he wasn’t involved, I hope the security agency will also engage him, because once the report comes up, anyone who has information—we are calling on the public to come up with any information that you know about the issue to the media, to help with the investigation,” he added.

Ghana can’t be a cocaine coast – CDM to Mahama gov’t

0

In a hard-hitting statement, the Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has warned that Ghana risks being labelled a “Cocaine Coast” if allegations surrounding suspicious international flights are not addressed swiftly and thoroughly.

CDM cautioned that lax oversight or the appearance of it could result in increased scrutiny of Ghanaian travellers and exports, a potential drop in investor confidence, and reputational damage on the international stage.

“Ghana must not become a permissive corridor for narcotic trafficking,” the group asserted.

“We advise the government to act decisively to protect the nation’s integrity.”

The CDM reiterated its call for full disclosure from the Civil Aviation Authority and National Security Secretariat, and for Parliament to conduct a transparent inquiry with support from international partners if necessary.

Also, CDM criticised the conduct of Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, describing his recent derogatory remarks towards Rev. Ntim Fordjour as “a stain on the dignity of the presidency.”

Mr. Ofosu had referred to Rev. Fordjour as a “clown” in a social media post, a move CDM says violates both Parliamentary ethics and public expectations.

Government spends US$15 million on Foreign Service Officers’ rent – Ablakwa laments

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that the ministry allocates US$15 million annually to cover rent for Foreign Service Officers, a financial burden that has significantly strained the ministry’s budget over the years.

In addressing this challenge, Okudzeto Ablakwa announced a strategic plan to purchase two properties each year.

This initiative is aimed at reducing long-term rental costs while enhancing investments in the welfare of the ministry’s staff.

However, he raised concerns about the deteriorating state of several state-owned properties abroad, attributing the issue to poor maintenance practices.

These conditions, he noted, pose serious safety and welfare concerns for staff.

Ablakwa further disclosed that Foreign Service Officers stationed in challenging environments will be reassigned every two years, ensuring their well-being while maintaining efficiency.

During his engagement with staff at the Ghana High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, the Minister reassured them that their welfare remains a top priority.

He emphasised his commitment to addressing their concerns and improving their working conditions.

The Minister’s visit to Nigeria is part of a broader working tour of Benin, Nigeria, and Togo, an initiative aimed at fostering connections with Ghanaians living abroad.

Inspired Official Wears for Your Next Presentation

0

First impressions are crucial in professional settings, and your attire plays a pivotal role in how your message is received during a presentation. Dressing appropriately not only boosts your confidence but also commands respect and attention from your audience. Here’s how to curate inspired official wear that aligns with your goals and leaves a lasting impact.

Embrace Tailored Precision

Ill-fitting clothing can distract from your message. Invest in well-tailored pieces—a structured blazer, fitted trousers, or a sleek dress—that enhance your silhouette without restricting movement. Tailoring conveys professionalism and attention to detail, signaling preparedness to your audience.

Leverage Colour Psychology

Colors evoke emotions. Opt for navy or charcoal to project trust and authority, while soft blues or greens can foster calm and approachability. Add pops of color with a burgundy tie or a pastel blouse to inject personality without overwhelming your audience. Avoid overly bright hues that may divert attention.

Prioritize Comfort and Fabric Quality

Choose breathable, wrinkle-resistant fabrics like wool blends, cotton, or technical fibers that maintain polish throughout your presentation. Comfort is key—stiff or itchy materials can hinder your focus. Ensure layers adapt to room temperatures (e.g., a lightweight blazer over a blouse).

Accessorize Strategically

Subtle accessories elevate your look. A classic watch, minimalist jewelry, or a leather portfolio adds sophistication. Avoid excessive embellishments that jingle or distract. Footwear should blend professionalism and comfort—opt for polished loafers, pumps, or ankle boots with cushioned soles.

Respect Cultural Contex

Research your audience’s norms. In conservative industries or regions, modest cuts and neutral tones are safest. For creative fields, experiment with bold patterns or statement pieces. Align your attire with organizational culture while retaining individuality.

Final Touch: Confidence

Your outfit should reflect your personal brand—whether minimalist, innovative, or traditional. Rehearse in your chosen attire to ensure ease of movement and eliminate last-minute adjustments.

Ultimately, inspired official wear is about balancing professionalism with authenticity. By thoughtfully selecting each element, you’ll project competence, connect with your audience, and deliver your message with unwavering confidence. Plan your ensemble in advance, and step into the spotlight ready to inspire.

Jomoro residents will benefit from Petroleum Hub project – CEO assures Chiefs

0

The CEO of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Dr. Tony Aubynn, has reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that the people of Jomoro benefit significantly from the multi-billion-dollar petroleum hub project.

Responding to concerns about the lack of Nzema representation in PHDC’s new leadership, Dr. Aubynn dismissed suggestions that it reflects a diminished focus on the region.

He said he had received direct instructions from President Mahama to prioritize local participation across all levels of the Corporation’s operations.

Dr. Aubynn also assured that compensation for landowners affected by the project would be fair and transparent.

“President Mahama is determined to ensure that landowners are duly compensated so that the project’s foundation is secure. He is also committed to ensuring that the people of Jomoro start benefiting from this initiative immediately. One of his key directives is to begin training the youth in skills that will be essential when the hub becomes operational,” Dr. Aubynn stated.

He also called on chiefs and residents of the Western Region to disregard misconceptions that the administration would sideline their interests.

Dr. Aubynn stressed that under his leadership, PHDC is committed to engaging local stakeholders at every stage of the project’s implementation.

“The President wants us to empower the people of Jomoro. They should look forward to the immense benefits this hub will bring. This project will be a game-changer for Ghana—its impact will surpass that of mining, oil, and other sectors,” he added.

Dr. Aubynn expressed confidence in the project’s success, highlighting the strong backing from the government and the promising prospects it holds for both the Nzema people and the entire nation.

About PHDC

The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) is envisioned as a world-class integrated petroleum complex aimed at adding value across Africa’s upstream and downstream oil and gas value chains.

Spanning over 20,000 acres, the hub will feature a sophisticated network of onshore and offshore infrastructure, including refineries, petrochemical plants, and storage facilities, set to redefine Africa’s petrochemical industry.

The project is projected to create 780,000 jobs throughout its development and operational phases, significantly boosting Ghana’s economy. By 2030, it is expected to generate $1.56 billion in export tax revenue, contribute to an estimated 70% GDP growth, and drive large-scale industrialization across the country.

Why the US is banning diplomats from dating Chinese nationals

0

In a move reflecting heightened diplomatic tensions, the United States has imposed a sweeping ban on romantic and sexual relationships between its government personnel in China and Chinese nationals.

According to an AP report, the directive, introduced in January 2025 by then-U.S. Ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns, extends to American diplomats, their family members, and contractors with security clearances stationed across mainland China and Hong Kong.

It prohibits any intimate involvement with Chinese citizens — a stark departure from previous protocols.

Previously, U.S. staff were only required to report romantic contact with Chinese nationals or avoid relationships with specific individuals, such as embassy guards. Under the new guidelines, however, such associations are outright forbidden unless formally exempted.

“This is a Cold War-era level of restriction,” said one diplomatic analyst, commenting on the policy’s breadth. “American diplomats commonly date or even marry locals in host countries, but this new rule makes clear the U.S. sees China as a unique threat.”

The policy stems from growing concerns about espionage, particularly China’s alleged use of “honeypots” — romantic traps designed to extract intelligence from foreign officials. Peter Mattis, a former CIA analyst, said, “Chinese state security agents have been known to seduce American diplomats, and even ordinary Chinese citizens who date them could be vulnerable to coercion.”

According to reports, personnel with pre-existing relationships may apply for exemptions. If denied, they must either end the relationship or vacate their post. Violation of the policy would lead to immediate expulsion from China.

The rule applies to U.S. government personnel stationed at the embassy in Beijing and consulates in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenyang, Wuhan, and Hong Kong. It does not, however, affect diplomats based outside of China.

The Chinese government has remained tight-lipped about the move. When asked for comment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it would be “more appropriate to ask the U.S. about this question.”

Ironically, China already maintains stringent controls over the private lives of its own officials. Civil servants with foreign spouses are barred from senior appointments, while diplomats are not permitted to remain in any one country for extended periods. Chinese government staff are similarly forbidden from engaging in romantic relationships with foreign nationals.

The new U.S. directive comes amid rising tensions between Washington and Beijing over trade, technology, security, and global influence — a geopolitical rivalry that continues to reshape foreign policy on both sides.

Don’t be misled; flights landed due to technical issues, not drugs

0

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Government Spokesperson, has once again addressed allegations surrounding recent aircraft landings at Kotoka International Airport, dismissing claims of drug trafficking and emphasising technical reasons for the incidents.

This follows the insistence of the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour that the flights allegedly carried drugs and cash.

In a Facebook post on Sunday April 6, Ofosu explained that the Air Med Aircraft landed due to damaged tyres on its landing gear.

Engineers were flown in on a separate aircraft to repair the damage, which accounted for the three-day stay at the airport.

“These pictures show engineers fixing damaged tyres on the landing gear of the Air Med Aircraft at the Kotoka International Airport. The damaged parts and engineers were brought in by a different aircraft, reason why it stayed here for three days. Don’t let anyone lie to you,” he stated.

He also provided clarity on the Cavok flight, noting that security officials inspected the aircraft upon arrival and confirmed its cargo consisted of oil drills and oil stored in jerrycans.

“This is actual footage of the inspection of the Cavok flight by security officials at the Kotoka International Airport on arrival which shows it carried a cargo of oil drills and oil in jerrycans. Don’t let anyone lie to you and shift the goal post when pressed for evidence,” Kwakye Ofosu added.

The spokesperson urged the public to disregard misinformation and assured transparency in addressing concerns related to the airport’s operations.

Eastern Region FDA destroys 2.5 tonnage of unwholesome products

0

By Emelia B. Addae

Koforidua, April 06, GNA – The Eastern Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has carried out a massive disposal of about 2.5 tonnage unwholesome products from some places with the consent of their owners.

The disposed products which included drugs, cosmetics, canned foods, drinks, and medical equipment, were seized from places such as the information centers, supermarkets, Over the counter, food retail joints, and pubs.

The items were safely disposed of at the Akwadum dumping site near Koforidua amid tight security and expert watch.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency Mrs. Anita Owusu-Kuffour, Eastern Regional Head of the Food and Drugs Authority, said that the authority was mandated to check on the safety of products under their regulatory control.

But the manufacturers and producers too had the right to report the unsafety status of their products to the FDA for proper disposal.

“The FDA seeks the services of the Management of the Landfill Site and uses the appropriate equipment to burn, bury, crash or churn for safer and successful disposal of the non-conforming products to prevent the activities of scavengers,” she said.

The equipment used for the destruction exercise included an excavator and bulldozers.

The FDA protects public health by assuring the safety, effectiveness, and security of human and veterinary drugs, vaccines and other biological products for human use, and medical devices.

It is also responsible for the safety and security of Ghana’s food supply, cosmetics, dietary supplements, radiation-emitting electronic products, and regulating tobacco products.

Why Stonebwoy will win ‘Artiste of the Year’ back-to-back for the first time – Vida Adutwumwaa explains

0

Reggae Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy Reggae Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy

The Public Relations Officer of Burniton Music Group, Vida Adutwumwaa, has stated that Reggae Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy will win the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year accolade.

She explained that the artiste released several hit songs and performed at various concerts, including Tidal Rave, the 3FM All White Party, and other reputable events across the nation.

The entertainment pundit also noted that the BHIM concert, which featured high-profile artistes like Davido and Spice, helped project Ghanaian music and bridge the gap with the international music industry.

“Apart from King Promise, Stonebwoy has the most category nominations. He has eight nominations, with multiple nominations in some categories. We have a host of shows lined up on our record, including the African Games and other events across the country. Stonebwoy has performed live in Denkyira, at the 3FM All White Party, Tidal Rave, and the BHIM Festival, which featured Davido, Spice, and other top-class international artists.”

“We will not succumb to pressure; we are very optimistic about breaking and setting that record – winning Artiste of the Year back-to-back,” she said while speaking on United Showbiz aired on UTV on April 5, 2025.

Adutwumwaa also shut down claims that musicians who have already won awards should make way for up-and-coming artistes, arguing that such views undermine the spirit of consistency.

“The assertion that musicians who have won awards should allow others to win is something that needs to stop, as it undermines the spirit of consistency,” she added.

The TGMA main awards event is scheduled to take place on May 3, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The awards night will be preceded by a pre-party on May 2, 2025, bringing together nominees and industry stakeholders for networking and discussions.

The nominees’ jam, commonly referred to as the TGMA Xperience, was held on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
