Afua Asantewaa Speaks On Dr. Bawumia’s Sing-a-thon Donation

0

Afua Asantewaa

Guinness World Record sing-a-thon contender Afua Asantewaa has addressed recent controversy over a GH¢20,000 donation reportedly made by former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during her first sign-a-thon attempt.

Speaking on UTV, she clarified that her team only informed her about the donation this Saturday evening and emphasized that she did not personally receive the money.

“I was told just this evening that Dr. Bawumia donated GH¢20,000, but I did not receive the cash myself,” Asantewaa said when she spoke on UTV’s United .

“Dr. Bawumia personally gave me medicine for my sore throat. I don’t know who on my team received the money—some even claim my husband took it—but I am unaware of that. Nana Reagan and Socrate Safo mentioned that the donation was meant for the boys, so I’m not sure why I’m being linked with it.”

Her comments come after the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, reiterated that the former NPP flagbearer did indeed donate GH¢20,000 to support her sing-a-thon. This was after Afua Asantewaa said on Accra Fm that she didn’t receive any cash donation from Dr. Bawumia.

Despite the differing accounts, Afua Asantewaa maintained that she is grateful for the gesture of receiving medicine but wants to clarify that she did not benefit directly from the cash donation.

ABA Fuseini explains why soon to retire Yohuno deserves to be IGP

0

Alhassan Bashir Alhassan Fuseini, former Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu Constituency Alhassan Bashir Alhassan Fuseini, former Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu Constituency

The former Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu Constituency, Alhassan Bashir Alhassan (ABA) Fuseini has vehemently rejected the assertion that President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, as Inspector General of Police (IGP) was a clandestine move to ensure that he retired with the honor of having served as an IGP.

Responding to the claim by Kwame Owusu Danso, host of ‘Good Morning Africa’ on Pan African TV that Yohuno is almost due for retirement, ABA Fuseini argued that Yohuno at the time of appointment was still in active service and deserves the appointment just as any other person in the police service.

The former MP for Sagnarigu further dispelled rumours that the position was a reward for Yohuno to exit the service as an IGP.

Addressing these concerns on Pan African TV on March 14, 2025, ABA Fuseini alluded to the fact that, as long as Christian Tetteh Yohuno was in active service, he had the right to be promoted to any position that became vacant in the service.

“These are legitimate concerns, but as legitimate as these concerns may be, he was not brought in from retirement. We must not be oblivious of the fact that he also has the right as a serving officer. So, when there is a vacancy, the senior most officers are entitled to be promoted to the available position,” he said.

He stressed that he is confident that Christian Tetteh Yohuno would not abandon the good initiatives started by his predecessor George Akuffo Dampare and ensure a seamless transition.

What the law says about extending the contract of a public servant who reaches the age of retirement

The Public Civil Service Act 1993 (PNDCL 327) Amended in 1996 to add Article 199(4) makes provision for the executive to extend the contract of a public servant who reaches retirement while in active service by not more than two years at a time.

Per Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, the Civil Service Act 1993 (PNDCL 327) and the Labour Act of 2003 (Act 651), government workers must compulsorily retire at the age of sixty (60).

However, an extension has legal backing in Ghana’s 1992 Constitution as Amended in 1996 to add Article 199(4) where its framers foresaw that public officers who attain the retirement age of 60 may be engaged for a limited period of not more than two (2) years at a time but not exceeding five (5) years in all.

It is, however, uncertain what action President John Dramani Mahama would take in relation to the newly appointed IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno was sworn in on March 14, 2025, after he was appointed Inspector General of Police by President John Mahama on March 13, 2025.

In a statement by the Minister of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the president, in accordance with the Constitution and the Council of State, made the appointment.

“President John Dramani Mahama has in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Inspector-General of Police,” part of the statement reads.

Tech expert calls for regular security audits after hack on President Mahama’s X account

A tech consultant, Kobby Spiky is calling for regular security audits and enhanced tech education within President Mahama’s tech team following the recent hacking of his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.

President John Mahama’s X account was reportedly compromised in the early hours of March 17, 2025, though it was quickly restored.

The specifics of the hack remain unclear, but unauthorized individuals temporarily gained control of the account.

During the breach, the president’s X account was used to promote meme coins, with a post stating, “Ghana is leading the way for Africa’s fintech sector by making payments fast and free across the continent, with support from Solana and the Bank of Ghana through the Solanafrica project. We look forward to other African nations joining us soon. Support Solanafrica by purchasing the Solanafrica memecoin, which helps cover transaction fees.”

In an interview with GhanaWeb Business, tech consultant Kobby Spiky pointed out that such incidents often occur when multiple individuals have access to the president’s account.

He emphasised that the weakest link in any hacking incident is typically human error, underscoring the need for stricter security protocols.

“These things happen when multiple people handle an account. The weakest link in any hacking incident is usually human error, people are often too trusting and can make simple mistakes that give hackers access to a system.”

He further stressed the importance of frequent security audits to prevent such breaches.

“There should be regular security audits ideally every week to review account activity and check where logins are coming from. In fact, if possible, this should be done daily. Always check emails sent from the account, as hackers can gain access and remain dormant for months or even years, waiting for the right time to attack. Continuous monitoring is essential,” he added.

Spiky also noted that incidents like this could significantly impact the fintech space by undermining trust in digital financial platforms.

Former Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has disclosed that André Dede Ayew is unfazed about his omission from the Black Stars squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The former Udinese midfielder indicated that he held a conversation with Ayew after the announcement of the Black Stars squad and that the Le Havre forward is not perturbed by his absence from the Black Stars.

“I spoke to Dede Ayew, and he is not worried,” Agyemang-Badu said during an interview with Connect FM.

The retired footballer noted that, although Dede’s recent performances for his club side have improved, head coach Otto Addo’s decision to exempt him from the squad should be respected by the players and the public.

“We all know that player selection for the Black Stars is based on performance. Dede is delivering, but we must respect the coach’s choice,” he added.

Prior to the announcement, Dede Ayew reiterated that he remains committed to the national team and has no intention of retiring anytime soon.

The squad announced by Otto Addo saw Thomas Partey’s return to the team following a short absence, while André Dede Ayew was left out once again.

‘Most Ghanaian men lack wisdom in relationships’ – Adu Safowaa claims

0

In an exclusive interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM, the 34-year-old media figure expressed concern over the way single men manage romantic relationships.

Most single men know how to build brands or pursue success in life, but they do not understand how to live peacefully with their girlfriends, she stated.

Adu Safowah went on to make a bold confession: she has dated two married men, and according to her, those experiences were among the happiest periods of her life.

You can ask any of my ex-boyfriends — I don’t date two men at the same time. I’ve had eight partners in total; two were married and six were single. I really enjoyed dating the married ones. They were often busy with work and family, but I always felt at ease around them,” she revealed.

Single Men Come With Pressure, She Claims

According to her, relationships with single men often come with unnecessary stress and lack of emotional maturity.

Most single men bring a lot of pressure. They lack the insight needed to care for their partners. They are usually more focused on work and external pursuits, she explained.

Safowah also shared her deeply involved approach to relationships, likening her boyfriends to personal projects.

Most single men bring a lot of pressure. They lack the insight needed to care for their partners. They are usually more focused on work and external pursuits, she explained.

I always want to be there for my boyfriends — they are my projects. I love to take care of them and keep tabs on all aspects of their lives, she said.

However, not everyone appreciated this level of attention. “One of my exes even said I care too much, as if I have nothing else going on in my life,” she added with a laugh.

A video of Adu Safowah’s candid interview is currently circulating online, generating significant conversation on social media about gender roles, dating preferences, and emotional compatibility in modern relationships.

Bawumia would’ve polled 30% if 2024 election was held in August – Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

0

Former Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has stated that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would have performed worse if the 2024 presidential election was held in August instead of December.

According to the 2024 manifesto committee chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), there were early signs of defeat, and the party’s candidate, who was then the vice president, would have suffered from the implications of economic conditions at the time, which had improved by December.

“I started seeing signs that the election would not be easy, but we still hoped for a better outcome. The fact that the elections were held in December allowed us to regain some support,” he is reported to have told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM in an interview.

“If they had been conducted in August, Dr. Bawumia would have polled around 30% against John Mahama because, at that time, economic hardships were severe.

“However, conditions improved as we approached the elections, including the economic situation,” the former MP added.

Dr. Bawumia polled 4,877,611 votes (41.75%) against the winner of the 2024 election, John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress, who polled 6,591,790 (56.42%).

Following the party’s defeat, the Ashanti Regional chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi, inaugurated a fact-finding committee led by the former Majority Leader.

A report by the committee highlights key factors that led to the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Some of the highlighted factors include internal wranglings, economic factors, as well as the attitude of party and government officials.

NPA donates Ramadan package to National Chief Imam for the needy

0

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has donated assorted food items to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, to help needy Muslims observe the Ramadan fast.

The items included bags of rice, sugar, cooking oil, and packs of milo, milk, and water.

In his remarks after the donation at the Fadama residence of the National Chief Imam on Friday, the NPA Chief Executive, Mr Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., said the visit was to share in the bliss of the holy month of Ramadan.

“In this holy month of Ramadan, is an opportunity to share so that those who have can share with those who do not have. One of the things I admire about Islam is the opportunity to share” he said.

He expressed the hope that NPA’s gesture, which he described as a token, would inspire others to follow suit.

Flanked by his Deputies, Dr. Sheila Addo and Dr. Dramani Bukari, Mr. Tameklo Esq. lauded the National Chief Imam for his peaceful disposition and indicated that he had been instrumental in maintaining peace and stability in the country.

“I have always maintained that 32 years since 1992, one person who has been a source of stability in this country is the National Chief Imam.

“When he speaks, everybody listens. That is the extent of his control and influence”, he said.

The NPA Boss said in some countries, he would be said to be the shock absorber, working to resolve issues to ensure peace.

He said Ghanaians would continue to pray to the Almighty Allah to give him more life so that he continues to be stabilizing factor.

Mr. Tameklo Esq. said in his readings about Islam, one person he admired in the religion is Caliph Abu Bakr, who was the first Caliph (Supreme leader) to succeed Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). Caliph Abu Bakr succeeded in expanding the religion.

He, therefore, asked the National Chief Imam to pray for him to also manage and grow the affairs of the NPA in the interest of the country.

Mr. Tameklo Esq. called for a special prayer for President John Dramani Mahama, whom he acknowledged as the son of the National Chief Imam to deliver on his mandate to promote the country’s socio-economic development.

Responding, the National Chief Imam commended Mr. Tameklo Esq. for the relief he had given to the Muslim staff of the Authority during the Ramdan.

He said Allah would reward the NPA Boss abundantly for the care shown to the Muslims to observe the fast.

“If you help people, Allah will help you especially in this month of Ramadan”, he said.

Sheikh Sharubutu prayed to Allah to preserve Ghana’s peace and prayed for President Mahama and his team to succeed in the governance of the country.

Sheikh Sharubutu thanked the NPA for the gesture and prayed to Allah to support Mr. Tameklo Esq. and his executive management in all their endeavours.

Cease gold smuggling operations or face full rigours of law …Sammy Gyamfi warns

0

The Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Mr Sammy Gyamfi, has warned gold smugglers to cease their operations or face the full rigours of the law.

He said, government through the establishment of the Gold Board (GOLDBOD), would streamline gold exports and check illicit trade, adding that, any person who smuggled gold, commits an offence and liable to a minimum prison term of 10 years and a maximum of 20 years.

Mr Gyamfi gave the warning at a stakeholders’ engagement held at Tarkwa in the Western Region, on Friday, on the

to-be-established (GOLDBOD), aimed at streamlining the gold trading sector in Ghana.

The event, which brought together gold buyers, small-scale miners, commercial mining companies and chiefs, was to address misinformation and misconceptions, clarify the objectives and benefits of the GOLDBOD, solicit inputs, gather feedback and suggestions from stakeholders on the GOLDBOD Bill.

He said “We know where you are, and soon, we will be tracking you. So don’t be tempted to smuggle the gold. There will no black market. No foreigner will be given an aggregator to buy gold. Foreigners are enjoying from the gold Industry, and why should we allow this? If you want to buy gold, go the GOLDBOD.”

Mr Gyamfi told participants that, the GOLDBOD would have the powers of entry, inspections, audit, search, seizure, confiscation, detention and arrest, subject to the constitution, and, in collaboration with other relevant state agencies.

He, therefore, urged the industry to support GOLDBOD in order to inject sanity into Ghana’s gold trade and Forex to stabilise the cedi, improve the economy and welfare of miners “who are the bulwark of the economy.”

He added that: “when we arrest you, you will lose your gold and your future prospects. Come for the licence and we will give you money to buy the gold,” the PMMC MD explained.

The GOLDBOD, Mr Gyamfi envisaged, was capable of bringing Forex inflows of between $4 billion to $6 billion per annum at the current market rate through strategic forward sales of gold from the small scale mining sector to support forex accumulation and exchange rate management by the Bank of Ghana.

Furthermore, he emphasized that GOLDBOD would have the right to buy all portion of gold production by large scale mining companies in line with government’s peremptory rights.

This arrangement, he said, could significantly augment the Forex and gold reserve accumulation programme of the BOG for a stronger national economy.

Moreover, he told the participants that GOLDBOD would issue licences to persons engaged in a business or related activity in gold trading and marketing industry or an ancillary business activity.

These include the aggregator licence, buying license, refining license, export partnership license, storage license and importation license.

The General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners, Godwin Armah, called on all stakeholders to ensure the success of the GOLDBOD initiative for it to be passed into law.

I Once Thought About Killing Myself – Aki

0

Chinedu Ikedieze

Nigerian actor Chinedu Ikedieze, popularly known as Aki, revealed in a recent interview that he once contemplated suicide due to the relentless bullying he endured because of his small stature.

“I thought about ending it all,” Aki confessed, describing how the constant ridicule and the hurtful names people used to call him took a severe toll on his emotional well-being. The psychological impact of the stigma he faced was profound, often leaving him weeping uncontrollably and overwhelmed by despair.

However, Aki credited his survival and eventual success to his mother’s unwavering support and practical advice. “My mother told me, ‘If you want to go abroad, read your books.’ I knew then that the only weapon I had to conquer the world was education,” he explained. This encouragement steered him away from his dark thoughts, as he focused on his studies and eventually rose to prominence in Nollywood.

Reflecting on those difficult moments, Aki recalled how, whenever negative thoughts crept in, he would remind himself of his mother’s words. “I would say to myself, ‘Remember what Mom said? Until these books fail me, I will keep going.” This steadfast determination became his source of comfort and a crucial factor in overcoming the emotional challenges of his youth.

Newspaper vendors bemoan decline in sales as digital media takes over

0

Newspaper vendors are lamenting the rapid decline of their trade, attributing the downturn to frequent newspaper reviews on broadcast media and rising production costs, which have forced publishers to increase cover prices.

For instance, the Ghanaian Times recently announced a new cover price of GH₵10.00, effective Monday, March 17.

A major newspaper distribution hub, Orion Cinema at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, sees vendors gathering every morning to collect their stock. However, sales have dwindled significantly due to the widespread availability of online news and morning reviews by media houses.

Vendors Call for Change in Newspaper Reviews

Kwame Nyame, a vendor with 45 years of experience, believes shifting newspaper reviews to the afternoon could help salvage their business.

“If the media agrees to postpone newspaper reviews to the afternoon instead of mornings, it would help us. Now, many of our clients have stopped working with us because all the newspaper content ends up on social media early in the day.

“This has severely affected our business. I used to sell about 300 copies daily, but now, even selling 50 is a challenge. The government must step in to support us,” Nyame told Citi News.

William Odame, who has been selling newspapers since 1989, cites rising production costs as another major challenge. Frequent price hikes discourage buyers, further reducing sales. To supplement his income, he now sells lotto papers alongside newspapers.

Despite declining sales, some loyal readers still prefer physical newspapers. Vendor Victoria Antwi notes that a few customers continue to buy newspapers, even after reading the news online.

“Recently, when Daily Guide raised its price to GHS 8.00, other papers followed. The Ghanaian Chronicle is now also GH₵8.00. Many of my customers have stopped buying it, but a few still prefer to purchase it regardless of having already heard the news,” she said.

Publishers Struggle Amid Rising Costs

With the cost of printing materials soaring, publishers are struggling to stay afloat. A former editor of The Ghanaian Chronicle, Christian Lartey, explained that these rising costs are the main driver behind price increases.

A check with some publishers in Accra Newtown reveals that the price of a 15 × 20-sized newspaper, which cost GH₵1.50 last year, now averages GH₵2.00.

With the Ghanaian Times leading the charge with its GH₵10.00 price, vendors fear that more publications will follow suit, worsening their already dire sales situation.

CDM lays into President Mahama over ‘reckless’ dismissal of public workers

0

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to end his government’s dismissal of public workers.

Since assuming power on January 7, the government has been involved in a mass dismissal of workers recruited by the previous government, following a directive by the Chief of Staff.

Addressing the widespread dismissals in a statement, the CDM, said the government has been “reckless”, and urged President Mahama to reverse the dismissals.

“The recent wave of mass terminations of public and civil servants by President John Dramani Mahama is a dangerous precedent that undermines Ghana’s democracy, constitutional order, and labour rights,” the statement said.

“The termination letters issued to affected officials such as the one from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations to its senior managers at regional offices, as well as other institutions such as the Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Service, National Health Insurance Authority, and many others show a blatant disregard for due process, job security, and fairness in governance.

“This reckless exercise of executive power is not only legally questionable but also socially and economically disastrous,” parts of the statement read.

The CDM urged fellow civil society organisations, as well as labour unions, to rise up and resist the “unconstitutional” mass dismissals and protect the rights of those affected.

“At this critical juncture, labour unions, civil society organizations, and all well-meaning stakeholders must rise against this unconstitutional mass termination.”

“The Trades Union Congress (TUC), Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), and other workers’ unions cannot remain silent while public servants are subjected to unjust dismissals.”

“These organizations have a duty to protect their members from political victimization and must use all legal and advocacy means to challenge this blatant abuse of power. Ghanaians must collectively resist this injustice to safeguard job security, professionalism, and stability within the public sector.”

FC Barcelona mounted a comeback to defeat Atletico Madrid 4-2 at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on March 16, 2025, in the Spanish La Liga.

Argentine forward Julian Alvarez scored in the 45th minute after capitalizing on a cross from Giuliano Simeone to break the deadlock.

Things got worse for Barcelona when Sorloth put the ball into the net following a cross from Conor Gallagher in the 70th minute.

However, the Blaugrana were revitalized when Robert Lewandowski scored two minutes after conceding the second goal. Right after that, Ferran Torres leveled the score with a nice header that beat Atletico goalie Jan Oblak.

Despite Atletico’s resilient defensive work, Lamine Yamal stepped up and fired a shot that took a deflection and found the back of the net, giving Barcelona the lead.

Ferran Torres scored his second goal to give his side an emphatic 4-2 victory in the game.

The result has put Barcelona in a stronger position to win La Liga, as they lead the table with 60 points from 27 matches, with a game in hand.

Real Madrid are second with 60 points, and Atletico Madrid are third with 56 points, with both teams having played 28 games.

The South African Police Service (Saps) in Nelspruit have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old schoolgirl in Kanyamazane, Mpumalanga.

The suspect, who initially presented himself as a complainant, is set at the Kanyamazane District Court on Monday, facing murder charges.

Matric teenage girl disappearance turns to murder

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said the victim was last seen by her family early Friday morning as she left for school.

“The family last saw their daughter on Friday, 14 March 2025 at about 05:45, when she was on her way to catch a bus going to school,” said Ndubane.

According to Ndubane, police responded to a call reporting an inquest at Extension 16, Kanyamazane, at approximately 17:30 on Friday.

Ndubane added that upon arrival, officers encountered the suspect, who claimed to be reporting the incident.

“The man directed the members to a room where the lifeless body of the victim was discovered.

“He informed police members that the room belonged to his brother and knew nothing about what had happened,” Ndubane explained.

The police discovered the victim’s body covered with a duvet, still wearing her school uniform.

Ndubane revealed that a rope was found around the victim’s neck, with another piece hanging from the roof.

While the exact circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation, preliminary findings led police to identify the suspect as the primary person of interest, resulting in his arrest on murder charges.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has strongly condemned the incident.

“The sad killing of the young girl who was a learner with a promising future ahead of her is deeply troubling,” said Major General Mkhwanazi.

Abeiku Santana also emphasised the importance of preserving Ghana’s cultural heritage through music, especially highlife, which is deeply rooted in the country’s history.

“The Ghana Tourism Authority, as a government agency is responsible for creating awareness and sensitisation of Ghanaian culture and heritage. Music is an integral part of our culture, particularly highlife, and it’s important that we cherish this heritage and pass it down to future generations,” he added.

From elegant updos to flowing locks, there is a vast array of beautiful hairstyles that cater to various hair types, lengths, and occasions.

One timeless option is the classic loose waves. Soft, voluminous waves can add texture and movement to the hair, creating a natural yet polished look. This style works for almost any hair type, whether straight, wavy, or curly, and can be achieved with the help of a curling iron or rollers. Loose waves are ideal for casual outings or can be dressed up with accessories like hair clips or a chic headband for a more formal look.

For a more sophisticated and polished appearance, updos such as the bun, chignon, or French twist are popular choices. These styles elevate the overall look, making them perfect for weddings, parties, or professional events. A sleek bun or chignon, especially when paired with some delicate hairpins or a veil, offers an elegant and timeless feel, while the French twist is a chic and sophisticated way to style medium to long hair.

Braided hairstyles are also a beautiful and versatile option. From the simple three-strand braid to intricate styles like fishtail braids, Dutch braids, or halo braids, braids are perfect for adding a unique touch to your look. They can be styled in various ways, whether incorporated into a loose ponytail or wrapped into an updo, offering both function and beauty. Braids are particularly great for keeping hair tidy while still looking stylish.

For ladies who love to keep their hair down, a sleek straight look is always in vogue. Using a flat iron to create a smooth and glossy finish gives an elegant, minimalist appearance that complements any outfit, from casual to formal. For those with curly hair, embracing natural curls with a bit of definition and product can also result in a beautiful and effortless look, showcasing the beauty of curls in their natural form.

In addition to these classic styles, the modern trend of shaggy cuts, bob hairstyles, and pixie cuts has gained popularity, offering a more daring and bold option. These haircuts exude confidence and are ideal for women looking to make a statement with a fun, edgy look.

In conclusion, beautiful hairstyles for ladies are all about finding the right look that complements your features, lifestyle, and personal preferences.
