This is not Ghana: The alarming rise of Kidnapping and Human Trafficking within our borders
Interior Minister Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak and IGP Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno
Kidnapping is no longer a distant story that happens “out there.” In October 2025, 18-year-old Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Touré was lured to Kumasi by fake “scouts,” abducted for ransom, and killed when his family could not meet a ransom demand. A young life full of promise, ended by a lie. His death is a gut-punch warning: criminal networks are testing Ghana’s defenses and our complacency. Authorities in Senegal and Ghana confirmed the case and opened a cross-border investigation. This is not a rumor; it is a warning [1].
These are not isolated cases; in recent years we have seen court-proven kidnappings including the Canadians’ case where four men were sentenced to jail for kidnapping Canadians in Ghana and demanding a ransom of $800,000 for the women that ended in 10-year sentences [2]. But the men’s prison terms did not dismantle the ecosystem that makes abductions profitable. We can’t keep measuring success in arrests made after families have already lived through terror and fresh arrests tied to abductions and armed robberies, each case says the same thing: the threat is real, organized, and learning fast. Two other recent operations in Ghana showed how trafficking networks weaponize opportunity. The Police busted a Nigerian-led ring, arresting three suspects and rescuing seven victims, with coordination for repatriations through Nigeria’s NAPTIP [3]. In a separate CID raid at Adom Estates (Community 25), five suspects were nabbed and 57 Nigerians freed from a human-trafficking/cybercrime hub [4]. This is not only a Ghana problem and that is exactly the point: criminals are moving fluidly across borders while we debate jurisdiction. In April 2025, a joint Côte d’Ivoire Ghana investigation backed by INTERPOL rescued 33 victims and arrested traffickers running exploitative pyramid-scheme scams.
A newer, quieter conveyor belt is the “opportunity” trap, fake trials, fake jobs, fake visas, fake clubs, fake trainings. Ghana’s EOCO only days ago rescued 26 people from a trafficking ring linked to fraudulent QNET-style offers. In another instance, INTERPOL reported a joint Côte d’Ivoire Ghana operation rescuing 33 victims from a pyramid-scheme network that sequestered and exploited recruits. This isn’t marketing; it’s abduction with paperwork [5].
The data tells us the threat is not episodic. The U.S. State Department’s 2024 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report documents hundreds of identified victims in Ghana each year, mostly labor trafficking with significant sex-trafficking cases, numbers that likely undercount the real scale because victims are hidden, shamed, or afraid to report. When we dismiss “network marketing” scams as annoying but harmless, we miss the darker reality: some “recruits” are victims [6].
So, we must ask without flinching: have kidnappers infiltrated Ghana? Or have we simply left the doors ajar, reacting after each case, issuing statements, waiting for the next family to beg strangers for help on the internet? A nation that prides itself on peace cannot become a soft launchpad for kidnappers and human traffickers. Economic management matters, yes, but security of the person is the first economy. If families do not feel safe, nothing else compiles.
Leaders, this is your charge: move from case-by-case policing to prevention by design. Stand up a permanent, multi-agency anti-kidnapping task force with clear public reporting; map hotspots; mandate due-diligence registries for recruiters, academies, “talent scouts,” and work-study agencies; require verification numbers of parents can check before a child travels; run quarterly stings on fake-job hubs; and publish outcomes, not promises. Partner with our neighbors because these syndicates already do. Measure success in lives not abducted and Fund prevention like you fund roads, own the fight openly. Reward units for victims prevented, not just suspects arrested. When a recruiter or “academy” fails verification, shut it down, seize assets, and publicize the action. When courts convict, name the offense and sentence in plain language. Silence protects the next predator.
Citizens, we have work too. Talk to yourselves and children plainly about online lures, “instant trials,” and “travel now, pay later” schemes. Verify every offer with the club, school, company, embassy, or ministry, never through the recruiter alone. Meet in public places, bring another adult, and share live locations. If money changes hands up-front “for processing,” walk away. Report suspicious approaches; your tip can save someone you will never meet. Remember: many victims were first pitched a “network business”, “a job/travelling opportunity’’ or “foreign placement.”
Sports bodies, agents, and academies: clean your house. Publish accredited scout lists, hotline numbers, and travel protocols; insist on written invitations on club letterhead confirmed by email from official domains; require chaperones for minors and keep custody of passports during trials. After Cheikh Touré, anything less is negligence with a human cost.
Media and clergy, amplify pre-incident education with the same energy as post-incident outrage. Universities and SHSs, integrate a one-hour “safe opportunities” module each term. Banks and mobile money operators, flag patterns of ransom transfers and fast “on-ramping” of mule accounts; work with police on rapid freezes.
Let’s be clear: Ghana is not helpless, and we are not doomed. But we cannot keep reacting to crimes and calling it security. The playbook against kidnapping is known; verification, transparency, cross-border policing, data, and relentless public awareness. We must run that play now at full speed, not after the next family receives a ransom call.
To every parent, coach, teacher, agent, and friend: be the hard question that stops a soft lie “Who invited you? What club? Which contact? Verified how?” One firm question today can keep a child alive tomorrow.
Cheikh Touré should have come to Ghana to chase a dream, not to meet his end. May these losses move us from sympathy to systems, from statements to safeguards, from “this is not Ghana” to “in Ghana, this will not stand.”

PSWU raises concerns over jobs in planned PURC–Energy Commission merger
The Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has requested an urgent engagement with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition over the government’s proposed merger of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and the Energy Commission.
In a letter dated October 22, 2025, and signed by the Union’s General Secretary, Bernard Adjei, the PSWU said the request was prompted by growing concerns from staff of the two commissions—who are members of the union—about the potential impact of the merger on their employment and working conditions.
The Union noted that workers feared the process might be finalised without adequate consultation or consideration of their inputs.
“There are further concerns that the process may be concluded without critical concerns from the Union being factored,” the letter stated.
The PSWU emphasised that the proposed merger has major implications for staff and therefore requires thorough dialogue between the Ministry and relevant stakeholders.

“Engagement on the matter will enable us to better appreciate the proposal, make possible inputs into it, with a view to arrive at more workable options,” the letter added.
Mr. Adjei underscored that the PSWU represents workers across more than 75 public sector organisations, including PURC, the Energy Commission, VRA, GRIDCo, NEDCo, and the Bui Power Authority, making it a key stakeholder in the proposed restructuring.
The letter, copied to the Chief of Staff at the Jubilee House, the Secretary-General of the TUC (Ghana), and executives of both commissions, expressed confidence that the Ministry would grant the Union an early engagement to address these concerns.

Producer Price Inflation Up To 3.2%
Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, Government Statistician
The year-on-year producer price inflation (PPI) for all goods and services stood has recorded a 0.2% increase reaching 3.2% in September 2025.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) in its latest PPI data said on a month-on-month basis, producer prices rose by 0.9% between August and September 2025.
This means that on average, producers received 0.9% more for their goods and services than they did the previous month.
The Mining and Quarrying sector — which carries the largest weight in the PPI basket (43.7%) — saw a marginal increase in its inflation rate from 4.9% in August to 5.0% in September.
Similarly, Manufacturing, which accounts for 35% of the PPI weights, recorded a modest uptick from 1.6% to 1.7% over the same period.
In contrast, Transport and Storage prices continued to decline, with inflation in the sector dropping by 8.2% in September, compared to a fall of 8.0% in August 2025.
The GSS urged businesses to cut waste, improve efficiency, and reinvest savings in technology and skills development to stay competitive amid fluctuating prices.
It further encouraged firms to transform inflationary pressures into productivity gains.
The agency also advised government to prioritise tax reliefs, address energy and transport bottlenecks, and strengthen local supply chains to make production cheaper and more efficient.
For households, the GSS recommended smart spending habits, urging consumers to compare prices, buy wisely, and support businesses that pass on cost savings.
“Spend with intention to stretch income and reward fair pricing,” the Service advised.

Ghanaian-American singer and songwriter, Moliy
Ghanaian-American singer and songwriter, Moliy Ama Montgomery popularly known as Moliy has recounted a motivating piece of advice she got from American singer, Tyler.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on October 23, 2025, Moliy was asked if she had learned a thing or two from working with Tyler and she disclosed that Tyler encouraged her to `fake it till you make it’.
According to her, that’s a phrase that inspired her to stay confident and composed while building her career.
“I got one piece of advice from her. Because when I met her, I’m like Tyler, I saw your blow up. I saw how it feels like everything happened and it just feels like you were ready” she said.
Ghana’s Moliy lands international milestone
She explained that she was impressed by Tyler’s rise to fame and her ability to maintain an authentic and confident presence despite the fast-paced nature of the music industry.
“Because you saw the song blow up and I think in this age of music blowing up on TikTok, like you see an artist and then the song is good, but it’s like what’s following. I think she’s managed to really create like a catalog of music that people fully love, even her presence on stage and like her aura in an interview” she shared.
Moliy stated that she found it remarkable that Tyler appeared so prepared for stardom and wanted to know how she managed it.
“I think it’s rare to see an artist like totally just pop out of nowhere and just have all those things in the bag. So I’m like how? Like this is beautiful to watch, it feels like you were ready when this happened and she’s like baby just fake it till you make it” she added.

The late Maadwoa and Ahmed Tsumasi
The Kumasi High Court has sentenced Police Inspector, Ahmed Twumasi to life imprisonment for the murder of his 26-year-old girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah in April 2023.
The ruling, delivered on Friday, October 24, 2025, brings an emotional close to a case that shocked the nation, a tragic tale of a law enforcer who used his service rifle to end the life of the woman he professed to love.
According to the court’s findings, Inspector Twumasi shot Victoria Dapaah, popularly known as Maadwoa, multiple times in the abdomen and chest at close range on April 20, 2023, at Adum in Kumasi.
Inspector Ahmed Twumasi arrested – Police confirm
The act, described by prosecutors as cold-blooded and premeditated, was carried out with a state-issued firearm.
The jury returned a 5-2 guilty verdict, a decision that was met with visible relief from the victim’s family members who had gathered in court.
Twumasi, who appeared emotionless as the sentence was handed down, was arrested three days after the incident on April 23, 2023 at Sekyere near Effiduase in the Ashanti Region, following a targeted police operation.
Friends of the late Victoria described her as vibrant, ambitious, and full of life. Her death, they said, has left an irreplaceable void in their lives.
Meanwhile, the defense team of Inspector Ahmed Twumasi has been given one month to file an appeal.

Amid ongoing discussions about dual-nationality players joining the Black Stars for the 2026 World Cup, old images of Nottingham Forest winger, Callum Hudson-Odoi meeting with Ghanaian government officials have resurfaced online.
The image shows former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and then sports minister Mustapha Ussif meeting Odoi and his father, Bismark Odoi, at the Presidency.
Officials from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), led by President Kurt Okraku and Vice president Mark Addo, were also at the meeting.
Are you the coach? – Fans react to Kurt Okraku’s remarks on players who rejected Ghana
Coach Chris Hughton was present to support the meeting’s success.
It was reported that President Akufo-Addo, Kurt Okraku, and other officials held extensive discussions with the player and his father about the possibility of representing Ghana at the international level.
Despite their efforts to convince the former Chelsea player and his family, their request was ultimately declined, and Odoi chose to represent England instead.
However, recent reports indicate that the player is now willing to switch allegiance to Ghana and possibly join the Black Stars for the 2026 World Cup.
This development has been rejected by many Ghanaians, with Kurt Okraku reiterating that such players will not be considered for selection for the tournament.

We won’t accept a stolen vote, Cameroon opposition leader tells BBC
Cameroon’s opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary
Cameroon’s opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who has declared himself the winner of the 12 October elections, has told the BBC that he will not accept a stolen vote, with the results due to be announced on Monday.
He says his team has compiled the overall picture based on results from individual polling stations, so there is no doubt.
Tchiroma Bakary, 76, is a former government minister who broke ranks with President Paul Biya, 92, who is seeking another term after 43 years in power.
The ruling party has dismissed Tchiroma Bakary’s victory claims and several officials have described it as illegal because only the Constitutional Council can proclaim official results.
Tchiroma Bakary said he had urged his supporters to defend their votes, adding: “We will never accept their votes being stolen by anyone.”
He said he was not concerned about being arrested or being put in jail, “but I know that I have already won the presidential election”.
“There is no doubt, no shadow of doubt whatsoever. My victory is undeniable,” he told the BBC in an interview.
He said the ruling CPDM party had “their backs against the wall” and could not accept the reality of the vote, and challenged them to show if what he was saying about the election was wrong.
He defended his decision to declare himself himself the winner, insisting that the law “does not prevent us from so doing”.
Asked whether he would accept defeat if someone else is declared the winner, he said he would agree “provided the Constitutional Council announces the results that comes from the ballot box, not ballot stuffing”.
Tensions over the delayed announcement of the election results have been growing, sparking fears of post-electoral violence in a country already rocked by a separatist conflict in the Anglophone regions and Boko Haram insurgency in the Far North region.
The highly respected and influential Catholic Church in Cameroon this week urged calm following fears that violence could erupt once official results are declared.
Catholic bishops said they hoped the official result would reflect the will of the electorate, and “nothing will be changed by any authority involved in this exercise”.

Dr. Zanetor Expresses Shock Over Mother’s Passing, Says They Are Still Processing Situation
News Hub Creator1h
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has publicly expressed her deep shock following the recent passing of her mother, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
In a statement that has resonated with many Ghanaians, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings candidly acknowledged the overwhelming nature of the loss, stating, “What a shock; we’re still processing the situation.” Her words reflect the profound emotional impact that the sudden bereavement has had on the family.
The shock expressed by Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings underscores the deeply personal nature of grief, even for public figures who must navigate their mourning in the public eye. Her admission that the family is “still processing” the situation reveals the raw, unfiltered reality of coming to terms with such a significant loss.
As a medical professional and Member of Parliament, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings has always maintained composure in her public duties. However, her vulnerable acknowledgment of being in shock demonstrates the universal human experience of grief that transcends professional or political status. The processing period she references is a crucial phase in bereavement, where families must gradually absorb the reality of their loss while managing the flood of emotions that accompany such moments.
The implications of this shock extend beyond personal grief. Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings must balance her roles as a daughter in mourning, a public servant, and a family spokesperson during this challenging period. Her honest expression of shock has garnered widespread sympathy and support from Ghanaians and well-wishers across the nation, who recognize the weight of losing a matriarch who played such a significant role in Ghana’s political history.

Greed Is A Fat Monster – Nana Aba Reacts To Buffer Stock Scandal
Nana Aba Anamoah, Abdul-Wahab Hanan
Broadcast journalist, Nana Aba Anamoah, has described the ongoing scandal involving former CEO of Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hanan, who allegedly stole GH¢78 million, as ‘monstrous’.
The outspoken journalist, on X (formerly Twitter), posted flier of alleged properties acquired with the proceeds of crime by the former CEO with the caption, “Greed is a fat demon with a small mouth, and whatever you feed it is never enough. Greedy monster!”
Nana Aba’s reactions follow an earlier revelation made by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, of freezing assets of the former Buffer Stock CEO and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, following alleged financial misconducts and acquisition of high-value properties using public funds.
The Minister for Justice further disclosed that investigators have frozen a fixed deposit account belonging to Mr. Hanan at Republic Bank’s Labone Branch in Accra, containing GH¢10 million.
He said steps are also underway to confiscate several vehicles and over 61 luxury handbags linked to the couple as part of ongoing investigations.
Dr. Ayine said between 2017 and 2024, the former Buffer Stock CEO in concert with Richard Sam Asante and Bismark Owusu Boakye allegedly orchestrated and transferred GH¢78,269,084.04 from the bank account of Buffer Stock Company to a private company linked to him, his wife and staff of Buffer Stock Company at Republic Bank and Ecobank.
Dr. Ayine indicated that they also made suspicious transfers amounting to GH¢40.5 million through Sawtina Enterprise, a company allegedly linked to the former Buffer Stock CEO.
They also traced some properties suspected to have been acquired illegally by him, including a five-bedroom house at Chain Homes, valued at $1.625 million; a three-bedroom house at Cantonments, purchased for $600,000; multiple plots of land at Airport Development Area, worth $750,000 among others.
Comments under her post witnessed varied views from followers, Onipa Nua wrote, “Nana, how do we conclude in believing this art work when the person in question hasn’t even been to court or given the chance to make his point. The Attorney General is doing too much of talking than working in my view.”
David Nkansa Anto added, “Pls be mindful of how you comment about ongoing court cases. Innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.”
Richwes added, “I usually don’t blame them, not at all. The whole system is faulty and needs a complete overhaul. Why would a real estate company and bank accept such huge sums of money in cash/cheque from a public servant without some kinda red flag? It can be stopped at the source.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Hanan has denied all the allegations of corruption levelled against him, describing the claims as “untrue and deeply unfortunate.”
In a statement released after the Attorney General’s address, Mr. Hanan said he had never been involved in the matters referred to by the Attorney General, and has instructed his lawyers to take steps to safeguard his reputation.

Africa Must Refine Its Digital Identity – Ibrahim Misto
Ibrahim Misto
Chief Digital Officer of MTN Ghana, Ibrahim Misto, has stressed the need for Africa to reclaim its digital destiny by redefining its digital identity and breaking free from decades of dependence on external technological systems and frameworks.
Speaking at the Mobex Africa Tech Innovation Conference and Awards 2025, he urged African nations to take decisive control of their digital infrastructure, data, and innovation, insisting that the continent’s future prosperity hinges on building a self-reliant, secure, and authentically African digital ecosystem.
“Africa’s digital identity must be authentic, secure, and sovereign. The time has come for us to reshape our digital future—one that is entirely African in character, secure in its foundation, and sovereign in its ownership,” he stated.
Ibrahim Misto revealed that MTN Ghana has already invested over $1 billion into the country’s digital infrastructure over the past five years, with an additional $214 million slated for 2025 to expand its 4G and 5G networks.
He emphasised that these investments are not just about improving connectivity but about laying the groundwork for a secure, inclusive, and prosperous digital economy for the entire continent.
Mr. Misto stressed that Africa’s digital solutions must be homegrown, reflecting the continent’s unique cultures, languages, and aspirations.
He also shared the success of MTN’s AI and UI electronics hackathons, which have provided young developers and students with a platform to co-create the digital future of Africa.
He indicated that security must not be an afterthought but a critical, foundational aspect of Africa’s digital future, requiring local expertise and robust national awareness campaigns to safeguard the continent’s digital infrastructure.
In support of the call for digital self-determination, Chief Executive Officer of MOBEX Africa, George Spencer Quaye, emphasised that real transformation lies not just in technological advancement but in solving African problems in African ways.
He stressed the importance of ensuring no one is left behind and measuring success by the lives changed.
Celebrating a decade of achievements, he noted that MOBEX Africa has connected thousands of young Africans to opportunities, bridged innovators with investors, and supported policy reforms such as mobile money interoperability.
However, he cautioned that the next decade demands acceleration, not celebration.

ACP Ansah-Akrofi, in her remarks, acknowledged the role of the Daily Guide newspaper in publishing stories about the Ghana Police and craved for a sustained cooperation between the internal security organisation and the Daily Guide Network.
She observed that there are people who erroneously think the Police Service belongs to personnel of the Service only and not the citizens whose security the organisation is mandated to ensure.
It is important to protect public confidence in the Police Service, as not doing so can impact negatively on security in the country, she said, adding that all should support the internal security organisation to serve citizens.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Daily Guide Network, Kwame Blay, on his part, welcomed the police entourage as he appreciated the words of commendation for the support his outfit is rendering the police.
He called on the Police Service Public Relations Directorate to share contents to the Daily Guide Network’s television to educate the public on security issues.
“I see what the police show on their Police TV, which is very interesting. We have a relationship through which you would share with us the Police Television contents so we can share with our wider audience,” he said.
Chief News Editor, Alhaji A.R. Gomda, on his part, called on the Police Service to organise seminars so reporters can specialise on security reporting.
“There are a lot of journalists who report on matters relating to the Police but lack adequate knowledge of the security service. I suggest that you organise periodic training programmes for such journalists to improve upon their knowledge of the operations of the Service,” he said.
He also commended the police for decentralising information dissemination, which has facilitated sourcing of news by the media.
Editor of the Daily Guide newspaper, Jamila Akweley Okertchiri, also informed the police public relations team of the newly introduced “ Stoppers Page” dedicated to reporting on crime related stories in the weekend newspaper.
She urged the team to contribute some safety tips to be featured on the page to better inform readers.
Guide Radio and DGN presenter, Abena Soreno Yankyera, lamented the increasing cases of misinformation on the part of journalists due to lack of prompt response by the Police Service.
She urged the Service to be prompt in their news briefings on crime-related occurrences in the country to reduce misinformation.

Belgium confirms its support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for The Sahara
Accra, Oct 24, GNA-Belgium has expressed its support for the autonomy Initiative presented by Morocco in 2007, placing the Sahara region “within the framework of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and national unity,” stressing that it will act “as of now on diplomatic and economic plans in line with this position.”
This stance was expressed in the joint Statement signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of Belgium, Maxime Prévot, at the close of their meeting in Brussels.
Recognizing “the existential importance of the Sahara issue” for Morocco, Belgium considers, in the same joint Statement, the autonomy Initiative presented by Morocco in 2007 to be “the most adequate, serious, credible and realistic basis to achieve a political solution.”
For his part, Bourita welcomed the significant evolution of the Belgian position, describing it as a “clear acknowledgement of the realistic and legitimate vision championed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, toward a definitive settlement of this regional dispute.”
This new position is part of the international support dynamic in favour of Morocco’s autonomy Initiative, already backed by numerous countries across the globe.
It also reflects a growing convergence on a pragmatic approach grounded in dialogue, stability and regional cooperation.

Green for Change Ghana honoured for driving Climate Action and Sustainable Livelihoods in Northern Ghana
Green for Change Ghana, a national environment-focused non-governmental organisation (NGO) committed to promoting effective environmental practices and policies for the benefit of local communities and the planet, has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to climate resilience and environmental sustainability.
The organisation received the “Excellence in Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action” award during the 2nd edition of the Northern Ghana Business Merit Awards, organised by The Business Executive Ghana on October 17, 2025, at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale.
Since its establishment in 2019, Green for Change Ghana (GCG) has implemented impactful programmes across the five regions of the northern ecological zone—Upper West, Upper East, North East, Savannah, and Northern—as well as parts of southern Ghana. The organisation’s work is anchored in restoring degraded ecosystems, building climate resilience, and promoting sustainable livelihoods that protect both people and the environment.
Speaking after receiving the award on behalf of the organisation, Mr. John Balankoo Sumbo, Executive Director of Green for Change Ghana, described the recognition as a profound validation of their ongoing efforts to restore degraded landscapes and support communities to adapt to the realities of climate change.
“This recognition is a powerful affirmation of our unwavering commitment to driving climate resilience, restoring degraded landscapes, and promoting sustainable livelihoods across Ghana,” Mr. Sumbo stated. “For us at Green for Change Ghana, local communities are the most affected by the adverse impacts of climate change. They grapple daily with food insecurity due to declining yields and limited coping strategies. That is why we promote adaptation and mitigation practices such as tree planting, the use of clean cookstoves, beekeeping, intercropping, soil and water conservation, dry-season vegetable production, and green value chain enhancement.”

Green for Change Ghana’s initiatives span a wide range of thematic areas that collectively advance the country’s sustainability agenda.
The organisation leads efforts in habitat and landscape restoration, climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental education, research and advocacy, natural resource governance, conservation agriculture, and renewable energy promotion.
Through its innovative approaches, GCG empowers communities to become custodians of their environment, ensuring that both people and ecosystems thrive.
Mr. Sumbo emphasised that while the award is a milestone worth celebrating, it also serves as a reminder of the continued work required to secure Ghana’s environmental future.
“This award reminds us that our work is far from over,” he said.
“We must deepen our efforts, work harder to build local resilience to climate change, sustain the livelihoods of vulnerable communities, and reduce anti-environmental activities such as deforestation, illegal mining (galamsey), unsustainable farming practices, and poaching.”
Over the years, Green for Change Ghana has become a trusted partner in community-based landscape restoration and climate-smart agriculture.
Its projects integrate environmental conservation with socio-economic development, demonstrating that protecting nature and empowering people can go hand in hand.
The organisation also promotes renewable energy adoption through solar and clean cooking technologies to reduce reliance on charcoal and firewood, thereby contributing to lower carbon emissions and forest preservation.

Green for Change Ghana’s approach places people at the centre of environmental transformation. By combining technical innovation with behavioural change strategies, GCG inspires community ownership and lasting impact.
Its work continues to galvanise collective action across government, civil society, and the private sector toward achieving Ghana’s climate goals.
“Every tree planted, every livelihood supported, and every partnership built brings us closer to a more resilient and sustainable future,” Mr. Sumbo concluded. “We dedicate this award to our hardworking staff, resilient beneficiaries, supportive stakeholders, visionary partners, and generous donors whose trust and collaboration continue to drive our mission forward.”
The recognition from The Business Executive Ghana not only celebrates Green for Change Ghana’s achievements but also underscores the critical role of grassroots organisations in leading climate action. As the impacts of climate change intensify, the organisation’s work stands as a beacon of hope—proving that with collective effort, commitment, and innovation, a greener and more sustainable Ghana is within reach.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a former Vice President of Ghana
A majority of NPP Members of Parliament have declared their support for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to become the party’s 2028 flagbearer, praising his leadership, loyalty, and transformative record in government.
Out of 87 NPP MPs on the minority side, 63 have reaffirmed their support for Dr Bawumia’s flagbearership bid ahead of the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries.
“We declare our total and unwavering support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the next flagbearer of our great Party. We have seen his work, his discipline, resilience and his readiness to serve. We believe that Dr Bawumia embodies the next chapter of the NPP’s vision, a future built on competence, innovation, unity and hope,” the group said at a press conference in parliament on Thursday, October 24, 2025.
NPP Primaries: 63 Minority MPs reaffirm unwavering support for Dr Bawumia
In a collective statement, the lawmakers described him as the embodiment of the NPP’s enduring spirit, a visionary, resilient, and pragmatic leader.
“Dr Bawumia represents the enduring spirit of our Party, visionary, resilient, diligent and pragmatic. From his days as a brilliant economist at the Bank of Ghana to his remarkable stewardship as Vice President, he has proven that leadership is not about words, but work; not about entitlement, but excellence and delivery,” the statement read.
The MPs highlighted Dr Bawumia’s central role in Ghana’s digital transformation agenda, noting his leadership in spearheading reforms that have modernised public services and enhanced transparency in governance.
They explained that, under his watch as Vice President, initiatives such as the digital addressing system, the Ghana Card integration, the paperless port system and the mobile money interoperability platform were rolled out, all aimed at improving efficiency and accountability across government institutions.
They credited Dr Bawumia with driving financial inclusion and promoting a modernised, technology-driven economy that benefits both businesses and ordinary citizens.
According to the MPs, his leadership has “brought clarity to governance, inspired innovation and built systems that work.”
The legislators also praised Dr Bawumia’s long-standing loyalty and service to the NPP, describing him as a leader who “respects the party’s history yet reimagines its future.”
“He has walked with the NPP through every season of victory and trial, serving faithfully, defending our record, and carrying our message with conviction and grace.
The MPs also appealed to party delegates nationwide to rally behind Dr Bawumia in the primaries, describing him as “the leader who can win the confidence of the Ghanaian people and secure victory for the NPP in 2028 and beyond.”
“To our cherished delegates across the country, this is our moment to make history once again. Let us reward loyalty, humility and hard work with trust. Let us renew the NPP tradition with a leader who represents continuity with innovation. Let us choose the man who has walked the path, carried the burden and delivered results,” the statement urged.

JAPP responds to Attorney General’s allegations on DRIP financing
Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine
The management of J.A. Plant Pool (Ghana) Limited (JAPP) has issued a response to clarify specific claims made by Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine concerning financial matters related to the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP).
The company stated that some of the allegations made by the Attorney General lack full context, which they believe is problematic.
According to the Attorney General’s statement: “In respect of the DRIP Programme, I have demanded a refund of Two Million United States Dollars ($2,000,000.00) from J.A. Plant Pool after investigations revealed financial irregularities. Although the contract sum was $176 million, records showed that a total of $178 million was paid, resulting in an excess of US$2 million.”
DRIP Contract: JA Plant Pool was overpaid by $2 million – AG reveals
However, JAPP has refuted the claims, noting that there was a formal agreement with the government regarding the contract, and all terms were duly acknowledged.
It was further noted that “the 2,420 units of equipment, which formed the subject matter of the contract, were fully itemised together with their individual prices in Schedule 1 of the agreement. The total contract price was stated as $178,704,739.50, consistent with Clause 3.1.1 of the contract, which expressly provides that, ‘this amount represents the full contract price for the supply of the equipment by the Supplier.”
The company also addressed other concerns and emphasised that the public should take note of its complete willingness to cooperate with authorities during the ongoing probe.

ActionSA wants DA to apologise to Gauteng residents
Funzi Ngobeni speaks at an event held at Newtown Junction
ActionSA in Gauteng said it will not support a proposed motion of no confidence against Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi by the DA.
The DA had indicated that it would submit a proposed motion of no confidence against Lesufi after the Public Protector (PP) found that his signature project, the Gauteng Crime Prevention wardens, was illegally established.
ActionSA provincial leader in Gauteng, Funzi Ngobeni, on Friday said the party had received an invitation to support the motion.
“ActionSA has received and formally responded to a letter from the Democratic Alliance (DA) seeking our support for a proposed motion of no confidence in Premier Panyaza Lesufi.
“As a matter of principle, ActionSA supports all initiatives aimed at strengthening accountability and improving governance in Gauteng.
“However, motions of no confidence must be grounded in a credible governance alternative, not political theatre,” he said.
A numbers game
Ngobeni said the DA should consult larger opposition parties to ensure there are sufficient numbers for the motion to succeed.
“Furthermore, a successful motion of no confidence requires at least 41 votes in the 80-seat Legislature. The current balance of forces makes such an outcome highly unlikely without a broader coalition consensus.
“For that reason, we have advised the DA to first secure meaningful engagements with numerically decisive blocs, such as the EFF and MK party, before seeking the participation of emerging caucuses like ActionSA. Building consensus among the major opposition forces would demonstrate seriousness of purpose and credibility of intent,” he said.
What did the DA do?
Ngobeni blamed the DA for supporting Lesufi’s election as premier after the 2024 government elections.
“It must also be said that many of the very shortcomings highlighted by the DA – maladministration, poor leadership, and failures of governance, could have been avoided had the DA not supported Mr Lesufi’s nomination as Premier in June 2024.
“That decision placed Gauteng under the very leadership they now seek to remove. If the DA has now reached a moment of reflection, it should begin by apologising to the residents of Gauteng for its historic misjudgement in that moment of GNU euphoria. Only then can its motion carry the moral authority to correct what it helped create,” he said.
Was the DA betrayed?
Following the ANC’s poor performance at last year’s general elections, it was understood that the DA would go into a coalition with the ANC, with Lesufi as premier.
However, Lesufi refused to give in to the DA’s demands in relation to positions after the party had helped him get elected.
It is unclear whether the MK party and the EFF would help unseat Lesufi, given that they have been seen as his allies.
Where are the wardens now?
Meanwhile, the Gauteng Provincial Government told The Citizen on Friday that the disbanded Amapanyaza are now assisting with various tasks related to the G20 leaders’ summit, which will take place in Johannesburg in November.
Lesufi said some of them will be trained to join the Gauteng Traffic Officers, the province’s traffic enforcement unit.
Daddy Lumba’s Alleged List Of Dumped Women Sparks Outrage
Social media in Ghana has erupted with mixed reactions following a viral trend titled #JusticeForTeamSideChicks, where several users have accused legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba of allegedly “chopping and dumping” numerous women during his long music career.
The conversation, which began as a playful post on X (formerly Twitter), has now taken a serious twist as users began sharing stories of women who were allegedly romantically involved with the “Aben Wo Ha” hitmaker and later abandoned. Some netizens claim that many of these women supported Lumba financially and emotionally during his early days, only to be sidelined when fame and fortune found him.
According to trending posts, a few of the women were said to be well-known figures in entertainment and business. Old songs and lyrics are now being dissected by fans who believe Lumba used real-life experiences from these relationships in his music. Many users argue that his love songs, often filled with deep emotions and pain, may have been inspired by some of these controversial encounters.
One user posted, “Daddy Lumba turned heartbreak into hit songs, and we danced to them without knowing the stories behind them.” Another commented, “It’s time the side chicks get justice, they made part of the Lumba brand.”
While the trend has sparked heated debate, others have defended the highlife legend, insisting that these allegations are an attempt to tarnish his image ahead of his 40th anniversary in music. Close associates of Lumba have reportedly dismissed the accusations as baseless, calling it social media propaganda fueled by envy and nostalgia.
Despite the controversy, Daddy Lumba has remained silent. Fans are now waiting to see if he will respond to the trending topic that has once again placed him at the center of national attention—not for his music this time, but for alleged romantic escapades that many say shaped both his career and personal life.

Berekum East NPP delegates dismiss claims Bawumia lacks grassroots support
Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates in the Berekum East Constituency of the Bono Region have dismissed claims that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia lacks grassroots support ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.
According to the delegates, the former Vice President remains the most marketable candidate capable of leading the party to victory in the 2028 general elections.
One of the delegates said the level of enthusiasm for Dr. Bawumia in the constituency is unmatched.
“He is the only candidate Ghanaians will vote for. The mistake we made in Berekum East will not be repeated. Even though there are five contenders, Dr. Bawumia will win with a great margin,” the delegate stated.
Another delegate, who serves as an electoral area coordinator in the region, said the former Vice President’s performance and dedication to the party will not go unrewarded.
“Dr. Bawumia’s contribution, particularly during the election petition, has not been forgotten. We are confident he will silence the opposition when he wins,” the coordinator said.
At the Kankaba polling station, the women’s organizer noted that all 17 polling station executives there have thrown their weight behind the Vice President.
“Claims that Dr. Bawumia lacks grassroots support are false. We believe he is the one who can secure power for the NPP in 2028,” she added.
Another delegate urged the party to allow Dr. Bawumia to continue the policies of President Akufo-Addo, stressing that his leadership would bring inclusive development.
Dr. Bawumia is concluding his campaign tour of the Bono Region today, with final stops in the Bono East, Sunyani West and Sunyani East constituencies.
Kwesi Arthur Inspires Me – Black Sherif
Black Sherif, Kwesi Arthur
Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Black Sherif, has disclosed that rapper Kwesi Arthur stands as an inspiration to his music craft.
Black Sherif made this revelation on X after a fan named Cyrus asked the “First and Second Sermon” hitmaker which acts inspire him in the music industry.
read, “@um_cyrus, @blacksherif_ which musician inspires you the most.” Black Sherif, in response, wrote, “Kwesi Arthur.”
Black Sherif, on several occasions, has publicly expressed admiration and love for Kwesi Arthur, stating, “I love Kwesi Arthur so much, I wish he knew”. This gesture has sparked mixed reactions from fans, with some appreciating Black Sherif’s sentiment and others wondering about his motives.
Rumours has it that following Black Sherif’s breakthrough in the music scene, he has overshadowed Kwesi Arthur. The two are said to have collaborated on music projects, including a song that was leaked but never officially released due to differences in their opinions about the track’s quality.

Eight galamseyers arrested for destroying Konkoma basic school park
National security operatives in the Ashanti Region say they are interrogating eight illegal miners arrested at Kokonma in the Bosomtwe District and indicated they are making extra efforts to identify individuals who spearheaded such activity.

Illegal miners have encroached on land designated for a school park at Konkoma in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region, leaving the area severely degraded and posing a serious threat to the only public school and health centre in the community.
The miners, in their search for gold, have dug dangerously close to the Konkoma D/A Basic School and the community health centre.

The mining activities, taking place barely 100 meters from the school and health centre, have left deep pits and loose earth behind.
According to school authorities, the situation poses a major safety risk to pupils, while the abandoned pits have become mosquito breeding sites, worsening health conditions for patients at the nearby facility.

Although the Bosomtwe District Assembly has intervened and initiated a reclamation exercise to restore the degraded land, security operatives say they are going after the real bosses behind the activity.
Ashanti Regional Securith Coordinator, Captain Retired John Kwame Jabari says officials are making progress with the interrogation.

Nana Konadu’s influence will never be forgotten
The Acting Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, together with the entire Judiciary and the Judicial Service of Ghana, has extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late former First Lady, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 24, 2025, the Acting Chief Justice described the late Nana Konadu as a woman of “remarkable vision, courage, and conviction,” whose life and work left an enduring mark on Ghana’s social and political landscape.
“Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was a woman of remarkable vision, courage, and conviction. Throughout her public life, she championed the causes of women and children, tirelessly advocating for gender equality and social justice,” the statement read.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie highlighted the former First Lady’s legacy through the 31st December Women’s Movement, which he said remains a testament to her lifelong commitment to empowering women and promoting national development.

“While her passing marks the end of an era, her influence will continue to resonate in the hearts of countless Ghanaians whose lives she touched through her service, compassion, and leadership,” the statement added.
The Judiciary expressed solidarity with the Rawlings family, noting that it joins the nation in mourning the loss of a stateswoman whose contributions helped shape Ghana’s democratic and social progress.
“We pray that the Almighty God grants comfort to the bereaved family and eternal rest to her gentle soul,” the statement concluded.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, passed away at the Ridge Hospital in Accra at the age of 76. She was Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady and a leading advocate for women’s empowerment and social justice.

I Lived With Hernia For 10 Years – Samini Reveals
Samini
Reggae and dancehall icon, Samini, has disclosed that he lived with hernia for 10 years before finally undergoing surgery to remove it.
Speaking on the Lifestyle and Health Show with Dr. Assan, the musician said he had unknowingly carried the condition for a decade because it did not show the usual signs associated with hernia.
“I had kept hernia with me for 10 years. It didn’t burst out like the typical hernia we know. Growing up, we used to think hernia meant swollen testicles, but I didn’t know it could also be an abdominal issue that develops gradually,” he explained.
Samini said he eventually decided to have surgery after realising the condition could worsen if ignored. “It took me about three months to fully recover. I kept it to myself and stayed calm throughout,” he added.
The award-winning artiste said he decided to share his experience to raise awareness about health issues and to encourage people to seek medical attention whenever they notice unusual changes in their bodies.

Bryan Explains Fertiliser Distribution Allegation
Dr. Bryan Acheampong
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ejura in the 2024 elections, Gifty Ndomah, has confronted Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Agriculture and one of the flagbearer hopefuls of the NPP with a charge that fertiliser meant for distribution to constituencies were withheld by some parliamentary candidates who, she alleged, intended to smuggle same.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi, has however refuted claims that he distributed government fertilisers to New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidates during the 2024 general election.
According to him, the fertilisers were distributed through the ministry’s district agricultural offices, not through political party structures.
Speaking later at a rally in Ejura as part of his campaign ahead of the NPP’s forthcoming presidential primaries, Dr. Acheampong described the allegations as false and misleading.
He insisted that fertilisers purchased with public funds could not have been allocated to political candidates, as that would constitute an abuse of government resources.
“The government can’t distribute fertilisers from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to your parliamentary candidate on the ticket of a political party. That’s not how government funds are used,” he said.
“If that were the case, then during election period, government funds would have been taken and given to our parliamentary candidates across the country — but that’s not how a country is governed,” he pointed out.
Dr. Acheampong further explained that all fertilisers under the government’s agricultural programmes were dispatched to the district level for accountability and proper supervision.
“When the fertilisers are sent to the district, then during its distribution, as your party is in government, you can have an influence, but in terms of accountability and responsibility, it is not in your hands,” he stated.
Extend ORAL’s mandate to expose more corrupt NPP’s deals
The combined team of ORAL and the Attorney General’s Department is doing an important job by revealing the corrupt actions of the previous government, showing that taxpayers’ money intended for development has been misappropriated by corrupt officials of the NPP government.
Thanks to ORAL’s diligence, Nana Akufo-Addo’s appointees could have stolen millions from the state unnoticed, but the investigative efforts of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) through ORAL have brought them to light, and they are now facing the consequences.
In a discussion with Ghanaians about the exposure of this financial wrongdoing by the Akufo-Addo government, Mr. Novihoho Afaglo, a staunch member of the NDC praised the President for appointing ORAL to reveal the corruption of the previous administration.
Mr. Afaglo emphasised that the work of ORAL and the significant corruption being uncovered should serve as a warning to current government officials, reminding them that their positions are meant to improve the lives of the people, not deny them their economic rights.

He suggested that President Mahama should extend ORAL’s efforts to uncover more corrupt activities of former officials and allow the law to take its course.
He urged Ghanaians to support the President, the ORAL team, and the Attorney General in holding the perpetrators of these serious crimes accountable.

A five-member audit committee has been officially inaugurated at the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) by the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, T.A. Thompson-Aryee, on Friday, October 24, 2025.
Speaking at the ceremony, NAFCO CEO, George Abradu-Otoo described the formation of the committee as a critical step toward ensuring prudent and efficient use of public resources.
He noted that the move aligns with Section 86(1) of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), which mandates all public entities subject to audit by the Auditor-General to establish an Audit Committee.
He added that NAFCO has already taken steps to strengthen its internal systems, including the recruitment of experienced professionals to lead both the Internal Audit and Procurement Departments.
Abradu-Otoo said this is the first time in NAFCO’s 15-year history that the legal requirement is being fulfilled.

They will review financial statements such as the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulations.
“For instance, we have strengthened the Internal Audit Department with the recruitment of an experienced officer to head it. We have also created a Procurement Department with another experienced officer to man it. Their duty is to scrutinize all spendings and purchases to ensure conformity with the laws. With these and many other interventions, it is our expectations that financial irregularities and audit infractions will be a thing of the past,” he said.
They are also responsible for ensuring that the organization operates within legal and ethical boundaries and complies with all relevant regulations.
Abradu-Otoo reiterated that with these measures in place, NAFCO is well-positioned to uphold strong corporate governance and eliminate financial missteps.
Below are the list of the five members:

Icardi’s ex-wife accused of sending flirty messages to Enzo Fernández
Icardi’s ex-wife has reportedly sent flirty messages to Enzo Fernandez
Chelsea star, Enzo Fernández has reportedly found himself in the middle of a growing controversy after Wanda Nara, the ex-wife of Argentina striker Mauro Icardi, allegedly sent him a flirty message.
According to reports from Argentina’s La Nación, Wanda, who currently hosts Celebrity MasterChef Argentina, is said to have messaged the World Cup-winning midfielder while his partner, Valentina, was filming the show.
The message reportedly read: “I just saw you around the neighbourhood, write to me if you want.”
The 27-year-old TV host’s bold message is said to have “surprised” Enzo, who immediately showed it to Valentina instead of replying.

But that gesture reportedly angered Wanda and created an awkward atmosphere on the MasterChef set.
Argentine journalist Santiago Sposato claimed the exchange has caused a rift between Wanda and Valentina, with sources suggesting the pair now avoid each other while filming.
Despite the media buzz, Valentina has publicly denied the reported problem between her and Wanda. She also dismissed the story when asked about it.
“Yes, I saw it. No, as far as I know, I haven’t seen any messages. No, no, Enzo never spoke to me about anything. No, he never spoke to me about any of that,” she told reporters.
Neither Wanda Nara nor Enzo Fernández has publicly addressed the claims, but the alleged flirtation has already sparked a storm in Argentina’s celebrity and football circles.

Shock at $100,000 fee to contest Guinea elections to replace junta
Junta leader Mamady Doumbouya has not announced if he is running for president
Guineans have reacted with shock after it was announced that presidential candidates would need to pay a deposit of 875m Guinean francs ($100,000; £75,000) to contest December’s election, which should see the military leaders hand power to civilians.
Guinea has been under military rule since Colonel Mamady Doumbouya seized power in a 2021 coup.
The elections are being held under a new constitution that allowed Doumbouya to run for the presidency – although he has not announced if he plans to.
While the previous deposit was almost as high – 800m francs – some analysts had hoped it would be reduced to encourage more people to stand in these historic elections.
“This amount is huge,” political analyst Kabinet Fofana told the BBC. “This decision adds to the growing criticism against the general direction of elections.”
Candidates who get more than 5% of the vote in the first round of the election will get their deposit repaid.
The authorities say the high amount is needed to ensure only credible candidates take part.
But presidential candidate Faya Millimono says the deposit used to be much lower.
“Until 2005, the deposit never exceeded 50 million [Guinean francs]. The madness began in 2010, when it was thought necessary to block certain candidates. The amount went from 50 million to 400 million, and today we’re talking about 900 million.”
The costs of participating in the elections are some of the highest in the region.
In 2022, the Nigerian electoral commission set a fee of 100m naira ($67,000 at the current rate – at the time it was more than $200,000) sparking widespread criticism.
In Cameroon, the deposit is $53,000 and Ivory Coast $90,000.
The electoral body also set a campaign spending limit of 40bn Guinean francs ($4.6m; £3.5m) per candidate.
One candidate believes these amounts “send a clear signal – only the very wealthy or those who have already benefited from state resources can truly compete”.
Some 50 candidates from political parties and 16 independent candidates have been approved so far.
The largest opposition parties, the Rally of the People of Guinea (RPG Arc-en-Ciel), led by former President Alpha Condé, and the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG), headed by former Prime Minister Cellou Dalein Diallo, are not included on the provisional list but they still have time to register.
Guinea is heading into an election without Condé, who was ousted by Doumbouya, as well as Diallo and former Prime Minister Sidya Touré of the Union of Republican Forces (UFR).
All three leaders are currently living outside the country.
Kennedy Agyapong’s Rare Family Moment Captivates Ghanaians
Known for his formidable presence in business and politics, Kennedy Agyapong has sparked a different kind of conversation online, this time for a rare and personal reason. The outspoken mogul has set social media abuzz after publicly sharing a moment with his daughter, offering Ghanaians a glimpse into a side of him they seldom see.
Images of Agyapong and his daughter, shared widely from the X (formerly Twitter) account of @DLFM1069, have quickly gone viral, drawing a wave of positive reactions from the public. The photos, which depict the businessman in a relaxed and proud pose with his beaming daughter, mark a departure from his usual public persona, which is often defined by political fervor and boardroom intensity.
The online community in Ghana has warmly embraced this familial display. Comment sections under the viral posts are flooded with heart emojis, fire emojis, and messages praising the duo. Many users have taken to complimenting his daughter’s appearance and expressing admiration for Agyapong in his role as a father.
“See beauty! Bravo, Ken,” wrote one commenter, encapsulating the sentiment of many.
Another added, “It’s always good to see this side of our leaders. A proud father and a beautiful daughter.”
This public flaunting, as described by many, serves as a poignant reminder of the personal lives that exist behind the headlines of successful public figures. For a man whose name is often associated with controversy and tough business negotiations, these images have successfully humanized him, shifting the narrative, if only for a moment, from tycoon to tender father.
The incident highlights the public’s fascination with the personal lives of celebrities and politicians, showing that a simple family photo can sometimes resonate more powerfully than any political statement or business achievement. In a digital landscape often filled with debate, this rare father-daughter moment has managed to unite Ghanaians in a shared sentiment of admiration and appreciation.

I’ll Quit If Kuami Eugene Rises Again – Kwame Yogot
Kwame Yogot and Kuami Eugene
Rapper, Kwame Yogot, has launched a blistering attack on fellow artist, Kuami Eugene, warning that he will quit the music industry if Eugene makes a comeback.
Speaking to Fiifi Pratt, Yogot left no doubt about his feelings: “If Kuami Eugene ever succeeds in music again, I, Kwame Yogot, will stop music,” he added.
The feud, Yogot says, stems from an alleged betrayal — claims that Eugene tried to sell Yogot’s music to a political party without proper payment.
Yogot has also accused Eugene of greed and short-changing artists who collaborate with him.
The pair previously teamed up on the hit “Biibi Besi,” but that shared history hasn’t cooled Yogot’s anger.

The power of digital payments – how Ghana is building a more inclusive digital economy
When a farmer in Ghana receives payment for her cocoa beans straight to her phone, a tro-tro driver accepts fares without cash and a young trader in Tamale receives mobile payments from customers hundreds of kilometres away, it shows how digital payments are quietly becoming part of everyday life in the country, changing how money moves and how people earn and trade.
Over the past decade, Ghana has built one of Africa’s most active digital economies, powered by bold policy decisions and strong collaboration between the government, banks, the telecoms sector and development partners. The Bank of Ghana reports that there are now around 76-million registered mobile-money accounts and 24-million active users, making the country a continental leader in mobile finance.
This growth flows from deliberate reform.
The Payment Systems and Services Act (2019) gives the Bank of Ghana clear oversight of payment service providers and fintechs, and protects users through stronger rules on transparency and consumer rights. The establishment of the bank’s Fintech and Innovation Office soon after helped guide the digital finance and fintech sector’s expansion while keeping systems secure and accountable.
In 2018, Ghana became one of the first African countries to achieve full mobile-money interoperability, allowing users to transfer funds freely across networks and between bank accounts and digital wallets. This simple step removed barriers and set a new benchmark for financial inclusion in Africa.
Digital payments are now woven into Ghana’s economy – from markets and farms to hospitals and schools. In one initiative supported by the Better Than Cash Alliance, 10 000 cocoa farmers received digital payments – improving transparency and giving many their first verifiable financial record.
Yet challenges remain.
Despite the rapid growth of digital payments, adoption is uneven. Many businesses, especially in agriculture, still rely on personal mobile-money accounts, which can be costly and limit growth. Only about a third of firms are using formal digital solutions, according to a report by the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) and Retail Finance Distribution (ReFinD).
Rural users and women remain less likely to use digital accounts, with the gender gap standing at roughly 7%. Many registered users remain inactive, highlighting challenges of trust, connectivity and digital literacy. Closing these gaps is essential. Access alone isn’t enough – digital payments must be easy, affordable and reliable for everyone if they are to translate into real economic opportunity.
The government’s plan for a “24-hour economy” depends on payments that work beyond business hours. Cash creates natural limits – it requires physical exchange, security and proximity, all of which slow trade after dark. Digital finance removes these barriers, allowing traders, artisans and service providers to transact safely and efficiently at any hour.
A model for Africa
As host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, Ghana is helping to shape the continent’s digital trade agenda. Its experience with interoperability, payment systems regulation and consumer protection offers lessons for countries looking to modernise their own systems.
Partnerships with organisations such as the Better Than Cash Alliance are helping to advance responsible digital payments, promoting systems designed around transparency, data protection and fair recourse for users.
Ghana’s digital payments story demonstrates what’s possible when policy and innovation work in tandem. The next step is helping people use digital access to build income, savings and financial confidence.
When small businesses, farmers and workers can move money safely and affordably, they trade more efficiently and keep more of what they earn. However, to sustain this progress, Ghana must continue to strengthen consumer trust, data protection and digital literacy.
Because in the end, it’s not about technology; it’s about people: the farmer checking his phone in Ashanti, the trader in Makola, the tailor in Tamale – each using digital payments to build a little more stability, a little more opportunity and a little more dignity.
That’s the real power in every payment.

Africa Loses $5bn Annually In Forex Transactions – AfCFTA
Dr. Tsotetsi Makong
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat has disclosed that the continent loses about $5 billion annually through foreign exchange transactions.
According to the Secretariat, the situation is a major contributor to the continuous raise in the cost of doing business across the continent.
According to the Secretariat, the losses have become a major barrier to Africa’s economic growth and competitiveness.
Speaking at the 2nd International Conference on Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) and Sustainable Development of Africa (ICESDA 2025) in Accra, the Director for Coordination and Programmes at AfCFTA, Dr. Tsotetsi Makong, said the Secretariat has identified similar losses in digital transactions and is developing measures to address them.
Dr. Makong also underscored the need for African countries to consolidate their resources to attract large-scale investments, stressing that no single nation can achieve sustainable development alone.
“Remember, we’ve been fragmented, and these artificial borders have been created. Nobody is going to invest in Ghana because Ghana is too small to attract huge investment. But if you put Nigeria together, Togo together, and you create one single market, which is what we’re doing in the AfCFTA, you increase the possibility and the possibility for investments to be made in the continent.
“Otherwise, individually, no single African country can advance. It doesn’t matter what we have in our national Vision 2020, Vision 30. All of those things, the markets are very small to justify huge investments. For the investments that we require, we need to make sure that we pull together as countries,” he added.

Parliament Adjourned –
Parliament yesterday suspended its sitting abruptly following the death of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
News of her passing reached the chamber while proceedings were underway, throwing the House into shock and grief. The atmosphere immediately turned somber, prompting the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, to move for an adjournment.
“The current circumstances couldn’t allow the House to continue sitting,” Mr. Ayariga announced, bringing proceedings to an unexpected close.
Before the adjournment, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, had presented several audit and accountability documents from Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies across the country.
These included annual statements by various audit committees for the 2024 financial year, as well as a risk-based internal audit work plan for the Offinso Municipal Assembly covering the period from April to December 2024.
The reports covered districts and regional coordinating councils such as Awutu Senya, Offinso, Bodi, Weija-Gbawe, Wassa Amenfi East, Kassena Nankana West, Sekyere Kumawu, Nkwanta South, Savannah, Ga Central, Techiman North, Bia West, Asante Akim South, and North Dayi.
However, the business of the day was quickly overshadowed by the news of the passing of the former First Lady, compelling members on both sides of the House to abandon debate and expressions of partisan interest.
Her passing has been met with deep sorrow across the political spectrum.
Parliament is expected to issue an official statement of condolence to the Rawlings family and honour her memory when the House reconvenes.
