The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, says plea bargaining remains a lawful option in ongoing criminal cases, provided the accused persons meet the legal conditions set out under Ghana’s Plea Bargaining Act.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, 24 March 2025, Dr Ayine explained that plea bargaining introduced into Ghana’s legal system in 2022 offers an alternative to full trials in suitable cases and is grounded in established legal procedures.
“We have not ruled out the possibility of plea bargaining in any matter,” Dr Ayine said. “Where an accused person shows genuine willingness to cooperate with prosecutors, make restitution, and help recover public funds, we are open to engaging within the law.”
He explained that such arrangements could help speed up judicial processes, reduce court delays, and allow the state to retrieve misappropriated assets more quickly than through lengthy trials.
Dr Ayine was quick to add, though, that plea deals would not be available to every suspect.
“This is not a blanket offer,” he stressed. “The seriousness of the offence, the behaviour of the accused, and the value or extent of restitution will all be taken into account.”
He disclosed that his office is currently in talks with lawyers representing some individuals under investigation, though no agreements have yet been concluded.
Responding to questions about whether the use of plea bargaining could allow influential individuals to avoid proper punishment, Dr Ayine insisted that every agreement must go through the courts.
“No plea deal becomes valid unless it is approved by a judge,” he said. “The court must be satisfied that the agreement is voluntary, lawful, and serves the public interest.”
He encouraged the public to see plea bargaining as a lawful and practical tool within the justice system—one that, when used appropriately, can support efforts to recover public funds and bring closure to certain cases without compromising due process.
Among those present at the press conference was Mr Charles Bissue, who is part of the Attorney-General’s delegation. Discussions at the briefing also touched on wider concerns about delays in high-profile investigations and the balance between public expectations and the rule of law.
Dr Ayine maintained that while the state is determined to pursue credible cases of wrongdoing, all actions must remain within the bounds of the law.

Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine has confirmed the arrest of Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), who is facing charges related to embezzlement, fraud, and illicit financial transactions.
Adu-Boahene, who served as the head of the NSB from 2017 until his departure in February 2025, is accused of diverting millions of Ghanaian cedis of state funds into personal accounts.
The arrest follows a complex investigation by the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO), which began after Adu-Boahene allegedly attempted to evade authorities by flying out of the country.
Full Breakdown
On February 25th, 2025, EOCO received intelligence that Adu-Boahene had left Ghana for the UK aboard British Airways flight BA078. However, further information suggested that he had continued his travel to Dubai, where he had booked a return flight to Ghana on Emirates Flight EK187 for March 21st, 2025. On March 20th, it was revealed that Adu-Boahene had canceled his flight and rescheduled his return for April 8th.
In response, EOCO expanded its surveillance operations, considering the possibility that Adu-Boahene might have returned to London to avoid detection. The operation took a crucial turn when authorities discovered a name similar to that of Adu-Boahene on a British Airways flight, suggesting that he had altered his name in official documents. On March 21st, 2025, Adu-Boahene was intercepted by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at the Kotoka International Airport as he attempted to use the Commercially Important Persons (CIP) terminal.
Addressing journalists in Accra on Monday, Dr Ayine said Adu-Boahene is believed to hold multiple passports, including two service passports and potentially a foreign passport, which raises suspicions of him holding dual or multiple nationalities.
EOCO also revealed that his wife holds a British passport. The investigation into his financial dealings has uncovered significant evidence of illicit activity.
During his tenure as Director of the NSB, Adu-Boahene was responsible for overseeing critical national security infrastructure, including contracts with foreign companies. In 2020, he signed a deal with an Israeli company, ISC Holdings Limited, to purchase cyber defense software for $7 million.
However, an audit of the National Signals Bureau’s finances revealed that substantial amounts of money were transferred from the Bureau’s account to Adu-Boahene’s private company, BNC Communications Bureau Limited, which he co-owns with his wife.
In total, Adu-Boahene is alleged to have transferred approximately GHS 49 million (around $7 million) from the NSB’s funds into his personal accounts, falsely justifying these transactions as payments for the cyber defense systems.
While an initial payment of GHS 9.5 million (about $1.75 million) was transferred to ISC Holdings, no further payments were made to the company. Instead, subsequent funds were diverted for personal use, including investments and transfers to unknown parties.
Dr. Ayine confirmed that EOCO is continuing its investigation into Adu-Boahene’s financial dealings and has identified several individuals who may have received transfers from his private accounts.
The Attorney General’s office vowed to hold all those involved in this scheme accountable and ensure that justice is served.

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has officially launched Ghana’s first-ever certificate course in sports psychology, with a call for more focus on the critical role of mental preparedness in athletic performance.
Speaking at the opening ceremony at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, March 24, 2025, the Minister stressed that Ghana’s sports sector must embrace psychology as a core element in training, coaching, and management.
“Sports cannot develop without looking at all the components. In the past, we cared less about the mental conditioning of athletes, but psychology contributes hugely to their success,” he stated.
He pointed out that psychological resilience is what enables para-athletes and other physically challenged sportsmen to excel despite their limitations. He also noted that psychological barriers could impact otherwise talented athletes, saying:
“That is why you can have an athlete who performs exceptionally well during training but fails in competition—because we did not factor in psychology during training. Some athletes struggle with stage fright, while others feel intimidated by international competitors. If our trainers understand this and incorporate psychology into their work, our athletes will be better prepared to perform at the highest level.”
The Minister also called on the media to play a constructive role in shaping the psyche of athletes, urging journalists to focus on positive narratives that encourage and motivate Ghanaian sportsmen and women.
Course
The five-day course, jointly organised by the National Sports College (NSC) and the National Sports Authority (NSA), is the first of its kind in Ghana. It aims to bridge the gap in psychological training within the sports sector.
Acting Director General of the National Sports College, Fuseini Bawa, highlighted the importance of the course, explaining that while sports psychology is typically studied at the PhD level, this programme provides an accessible professional certificate course.
“In Ghana, we have never lacked talent, strategy, or competition. What we have always lacked is the psychological aspect of sports,” he noted.
Bawa revealed that the programme had been oversubscribed, with 70 registered participants and an additional 20 observers. Due to high demand, he assured stakeholders that similar courses would be organised soon, with plans to expand to diploma and degree levels in the future.
He also urged sports federations and clubs to utilise the trained professionals from the programme.
“If you sponsor people to come for this course and don’t use them, what is the point? We want to ensure that the knowledge and skills acquired here are put to effective use,” he emphasised.
Calls for long-term investment in Sports Psychology
One of the course facilitators, Dr Elvis Hagan Jnr., underscored the global importance of sports psychology and called for sustained investment in the field in Ghana.
“Many nations are giving huge scientific support for sports psychology, but in Ghana, we have paid lip service to this for too long. This initiative is a crucial step in the right direction,” he remarked.
Dr Hagan suggested that the course be institutionalised as an annual or biennial programme to ensure continuity and increase the scientific capacity of local coaches and PE teachers.
NSA pledges support for sports psychology
The Acting Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, also lauded the initiative, describing it as historic.
“We know how important psychology is, not just in sports but in everyday life. This is a groundbreaking moment, and I am honoured to be part of it,” he stated.
He expressed optimism that the course would yield long-term benefits for Ghana’s sporting community and pledged the NSA’s support for future training initiatives in sports psychology.
The five-day certificate programme is being facilitated by Dr Elvis Hagan Jnr. from Germany and Dr Medina Srem-Sai from the University of Education, Winneba.
Participants will receive a professional certificate from the National Sports College, the only accredited institution in Ghana authorised to issue such qualifications.
Veteran Ghanaian hiplife artiste, Mzbel, has opened up on her two-decade-long career, disclosing that she has never received an award despite her contributions to the Ghanaian music industry.
“I have been in the industry for 20 years, yet I have never received an award,” She stated on Joy FM’s ‘Showbiz A-Z
Mzbel was once among the top female artistes who gained popularity beyond the borders of Ghana, particularly in Nigeria, Liberia, Ivory Coast, and Kenya.
But speaking on her achievements and contributions to the industry, she noted that while she has been appreciated in other African countries, Ghana has yet to officially recognise her with an award.
Speaking further on this situation, Mzbel reflected on what she would do differently if she were starting her music career in today’s world.
She also acknowledged that her approach at that time was not well-structured, which may have impacted her recognition in the industry.
“I am not blaming anyone. I think it comes down to branding. If I were starting today, I would be more intentional about it. Back then, I didn’t put much thought into branding. I would go on the radio and say anything, wear whatever I felt like, and attend events without careful consideration,” she explained.

He noted that the Barea (the nickname of the Malagasy national team) are deploying their best tactics and strategies in training to be fully prepared for the test Ghana will pose.
The coach indicated that the Black Stars are in their best form after thrashing Chad 5-0, with some key players from major European leagues.
Speaking ahead of the game, Coach Martins insisted that the result against the Black Stars will not determine their fate in the 2026 World Cup qualification, as there are more matches ahead.
“We’re going to play our way. We’re going to try to annoy them [Black Stars] as much as possible. Ghana have great players who play in major European leagues.
“We have to play a similar kind of game to stand a chance of winning points from Ghana. This game is not decisive because there are four other games still to be played,” he said as reported by ghanasoccernet.com.

US-based Ghanaian musician and socialite, Dennis Anane, popularly known as Archipalago, has shared his thoughts on a recent incident involving Sarkodie’s bodyguard shoving Edem away from approaching the musician.
In a post shared captured on X on March 23, 2025, Archipalago stated that Edem should not have tried to draw Sarkodie’s attention during his performance.
He explained that the rapper was in a focused, heated moment as he was making his way to the stage and Edem should have waited for him to finish before attempting to speak with him.
“Edem should have waited because Sarkodie was heated when making his way to the stage. And you know with such a situation, people will guard him, so you should have waited for him to finish,” Archipalago said.
He added, “You could have spoken to him after his performance because you are also an industry player.”
Archipalago expressed disappointment in Edem’s actions, stating that the rapper should avoid doing things that would provoke social media criticism.
“Edem, you are also my friend, but to be frank, what you did was wrong. You shouldn’t have done that at that point in time. Moreover, it was through you that Sarkodie became who he is today. So next time, refrain from actions that will bring social media trolls,” he advised.
His comments are in response to a viral video in which Edem attempted to get the attention of Sarkodie, whiles he was performing through the audience during the 40th birthday celebration of businessman Richard Nii-Armah Quaye.
According to a report by Ghanaweb, Franklin Cudjoe, President of the policy think tank IMANI Africa, has called on the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to remain focused on retrieving stolen public funds from officials of the previous administration despite recent controversies.
In a social media post yesterday, Cudjoe emphasized the need for the government to maintain its course on accountability while avoiding distractions.
“An apology was rendered to Dr. Addison the same day the raid took place. Please let us proceed cautiously. We all want accountability, retrieval, and retribution. There is a tall list of alleged and some easily provable economic crimes under the previous government,” Cudjoe stated.
His comments come in the wake of a controversial raid on former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison’s residence at Roman Ridge, Accra, on March 19, 2025.
The operation, led by national security operatives, reportedly involved disabling the CCTV system before conducting a search.
The raid sparked criticism after Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin alleged that GHC10,000 and jewelry went missing during the operation.
National Security has denied these allegations, stating they discovered empty money storage boxes at Dr. Addison’s residence and retrieved the CCTV hard drive as part of standard investigative procedures.
Cudjoe had initially questioned the President and Inspector General of Police about the incident, writing: “Thieving thugs, supposedly from National Security raided the home of former BoG governor? Mr. President, IGP, what is going on?”
Despite these concerns, Cudjoe now urges the government to stay focused on its primary objective.
“The current government must not distract itself from the goal. It must make little or no mistakes. We need our money, even if it takes 5 to 6 years in some of the cases,” he emphasized.
The Attorney General is expected to brief the media on various ongoing investigations, including how the government is addressing documents presented by the ORAL Committee.
President John Dramani Mahama with Ndan Ya Na Abukari II in Yendi
President John Dramani Mahama has assured residents of the North that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will solve the Yendi and Tamale water crisis.
The Tamale metropolis and the Yendi municipality have been hit with a severe water crisis that has significantly disrupted economic activities, forcing residents to purchase water from tanker contractors.
This situation has severely impacted businesses, including restaurants, schools, hospitals, and homes among others.
Residents threatened to embark on a demonstration against the management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) due to the worsening water crisis in the region.
Ing. Albert Nyeteng, the Regional Production Manager of GWCL, has indicated that the current water demand in Tamale is 90,000 m³, while production levels are only between 35,000 m³ and 38,000 m³, adding that the discrepancy has necessitated the implementation of water rationing in Tamale and its environs.
He indicated that a long-term solution to the water crisis lies in the construction of the Yapei Water Project.
Addressing the gathering at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi during a visit to the King of Dagbon as part of his thank you tour of the Northern Region, President Mahama said the water issues in Tamale and Yendi are his priorities, adding that he will work tirelessly to ensure that the crisis is resolved.
“There are two important water projects that we intend to undertake during my tenure, thus Yendi and Tamale water supply projects. Ndan Ya Na, I can assure you that by the time I come to say goodbye after my tenure, Yendi will have enough water supply,” he disclosed.
He disclosed that government intends to draw water from Yapei in the Savannah Region to the Northern Region to solve the water crisis.
“My intention is to draw water from the south of Tamale as far as Yapei on the White Volta and bring that water through Tamale South to supplement the water from Dalun, so that we can increase the amount of water Tamale is getting,” the President stated.
He disclosed that the Water Treatment Plant at Dalun will be renovated to ensure efficient water supply.
“We are going to renovate the Water Treatment Plant at Dalun, so that additional clean drinking water can be pumped to Tamale,” he added.

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening economic cooperation with the United Kingdom following a high-level meeting with the UK Trade Envoy to Ghana, Bell Ribeiro-Addy, and Akosua Dentaa Amoateng MBE.
During the discussions, he underscored the urgent need to finalize the bilateral agreement between Ghana and the UK.
He noted that ongoing debt restructuring had delayed several critical projects, and securing this agreement would provide the necessary support for their swift commencement.
With France already committing to a similar agreement, he expressed optimism that the UK would follow suit soon.
Beyond trade and investment, the meeting also explored opportunities for technical collaboration, particularly in tax administration.
The Minister highlighted Ghana’s plans for a major VAT reform and expressed interest in learning from the UK’s highly efficient VAT system.
He emphasised the importance of fostering collaboration between the UK’s HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to strengthen Ghana’s tax policies and enhance revenue mobilization.
Bell Ribeiro-Addy, a UK Member of Parliament with Ghanaian heritage, reassured the Minister of the UK’s commitment to resetting its relationship with Ghana and other Commonwealth nations.
She stressed that the UK views Ghana as a strategic partner rather than merely a former colony and is keen to work together towards shared economic prosperity.
Dr. Ato Forson welcomed these assurances and reiterated Ghana’s readiness to enhance cooperation with the UK across various sectors.
He expressed hope that the discussions would soon translate into concrete actions that drive economic growth and development for both nations.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale was shot and killed on January 16,2029
A member of the legal team of suspect Daniel Owusu Koranteng, also known as Amakye Hussien, in the murder of late investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussien-Suale, has said that Ghana would have been shaken if the journalist had revealed secrets behind Tiger Eye Investigations.
She indicated that these details were captured in some text messages at their disposal from the deceased.
The lawyer added that in those text messages, Suale stated that the exposure by the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, on Tiger Eye’s operations titled, “Who Watches the Watchman,” would have hit in the country substantially.
“In one of the messages, he says if he was to talk, Agyapong’s expose of ‘Who watches the watchman’ will be small on the operations of Tiger Eye, adding that you will do all this and will not be appreciated,” she said.
Speaking on Good Evening Ghana, the legal team member noted that the narrative that Ahmed Hussein-Suale’s killing relates to images of him circulating is baseless and that everyone he engages knows him because he is not an undercover journalist.
She added that Ahmed was first seen in a Tiger Eye documentary on the school feeding programme and that if it was about his image, he has a Facebook account with pictures of his wife and children all over social media.
“Suale has a Facebook page with his photographs everywhere with wife and children so it is strange why his death is related to leaks of his pictures.
“Someone is behind bars because of speculation, allegation of releasing pictures, such a high crime” she said.
She stated that Amakye has been around on his usual duties assisting the police over the last six years on the killing of Ahmed and that it is surprising he is being tagged a fugitive of the justice.
“He is been in the country every time doing his usual things of supporting family, assisting the vulnerable and is not hiding,” she added.
The legal team member added that conversations and messages from Ahmed Hussein-Suale showed that he fell out with his boss at Tiger Eye, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, before his death and that there are a lot of complaints against him in the messages.
She alleged that the baby mama of Amakye, who has also fallen out with him, was in touch with Anas.
She indicated that this baby mama told her that Anas said, “He will deal with Ahmed that he thinks he has forgotten about him”
The suspect, Amakye, has been remanded in custody by the Madina Magistrates Court in the murder of undercover journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
He faces a provisional charge of murder in connection with the assassination that has remained unresolved for years, raising significant concerns about the safety of journalists in Ghana.
Koranteng is the first individual to be arrested in relation to Hussein-Suale’s death and could play a key role in uncovering the identities of those behind the cold-blooded killing.
Ahmed Hussein-Suale was shot and killed by armed men near his family home at Madina on January 16, 2019.
A member of the Tiger Eye PI group, he had collaborated with the BBC on an investigative report that exposed corruption in African football, which is believed to have made him a target.
His murder drew widespread international attention, highlighting the risks faced by investigative journalists in Ghana.
Koranteng’s arrest follows an extensive investigation led by the FBI in the United States, in collaboration with local law enforcement.

Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, is presiding over his first Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting today, March 24, 2025, as the central bank assesses the country’s economic outlook and inflation trends.
The three-day meeting, concluding on March 26, will lead to a press briefing on March 28, where the committee is expected to announce its decision on the policy rate.
Key Issues on the Agenda
A major focus of the discussions is inflation, which currently stands at 23.1%, as the government aims for a year-end target of 11.9%. The MPC will evaluate measures to control inflation and ensure economic stability.
Analysts predict a potential hike in the policy rate, given recent declining Treasury Bill rates. Insiders suggest the MPC may adjust rates to attract investors and strengthen economic stability.
Reforms to Enhance Transparency
Ahead of the meeting, Dr. Asiama outlined new reforms to improve the transparency of the MPC’s operations, including:
Changes to the Monetary Policy Framework.
Publishing meeting minutes.
Disclosing how each committee member votes on policy decisions.
Additionally, the Governor plans to engage directly with the private sector and the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) after the meeting, ensuring that key stakeholders are informed of the central bank’s policy direction.
With businesses, investors, and policymakers eagerly awaiting the MPC’s verdict, Friday’s announcement is set to shape Ghana’s economic trajectory in the coming months.
The Minority in Parliament has condemned what it describes as the increasing weaponisation of state institutions for political purposes, warning that such actions are unconstitutional and undermine the country’s democracy.
Speaking at a press conference in Parliament today, the Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, expressed deep concern over the rising incidents of unlawful raids on political opponents.
The Minority specifically referenced the recent raid on the residence of Dr. Ernest Addison, the immediate past Governor of the Bank of Ghana, as well as several former government appointees.
According to Mr. Shaib, who is also the MP for Weija-Gbawe, these actions, carried out by National Security operatives, raise serious concerns about the conduct of state institutions and the principles of justice and accountability in the country.
“The exercise of state power must be in good faith, not as a tool for political intimidation. Law enforcement and security agencies exist to serve the public interest, not to be used as instruments of oppression by those in power,” he asserted.
The Minority accused the Attorney General and the Minister for Justice of overstepping his constitutional mandate by directly ordering raids and influencing investigations.
They argued that the Attorney General’s role is to provide legal guidance after investigations have been completed, not to lead inquiries or predetermine the guilt of suspects.
“The Attorney General is an officer of the court and must uphold justice impartially. However, what we are witnessing now is a dangerous departure from that role. The AG is acting as investigator, prosecutor, and judge, which is unacceptable,” MP Shaib emphasised.
He further criticised the Attorney General’s handling of politically charged cases, stating that convictions should only be determined by the courts, not through public opinion or political maneuvering.
“If there is evidence against someone, take it to court. If not, stop maligning people through press conferences,” he added.
The Minority outlined a pattern of intimidation through arbitrary arrests and raids on the homes of former government officials.
They cited cases involving former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, whose residence was raided without a warrant; former Energy Minister and MP for Hohoe, John Peter Amewu, whose residence was similarly invaded; former Director of Operations at Jubilee House, Lord Oblitey Commey, whose vehicles were seized; former Public Procurement Authority Chairman, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, who was arrested at his residence; and former Director of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu Boahene, who was detained upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport.
The Minority contended that these incidents reflect a broader effort to harass and silence political opponents rather than pursue legitimate legal processes. They described the actions of the security agencies as violations of Article 18 of Ghana’s Constitution, which guarantees protection against arbitrary searches and seizures.
The Minority also raised questions about the legality of the raids, particularly regarding the search conducted at Dr. Addison’s residence.
“If the search was truly lawful, why was no warrant presented? Why was brute force used to overpower his private security? Why was the CCTV camera dismantled and taken away?” Mr. Shaib asked.
He also revealed that the National Security Coordinator had reportedly called Dr. Addison to apologize for the raid, further casting doubt on its legality and intent.
The Minority warned that the country’s democracy cannot thrive in an environment of fear and selective justice. They called on civil society, the media, and all well-meaning Ghanaians to resist the growing trend of intimidation through state institutions.
“Today it is Dr. Addison; tomorrow it could be anyone who dares to think independently or disagree with the status quo,” the NPP MP cautioned.
The Minority vowed to continue fighting against the misuse of state power, urging the government to focus on governance rather than political persecution.
“The weaponisation of state institutions for political ends is not only dangerous, it is unconstitutional. Ghana deserves better,” the Minority declared.
The Armed Forces Council (AFC) has pledged its commitment to upholding the trust placed in them by President John Dramani Mahama, assuring him of their dedication to duty and national service.
Their assurance comes in response to President Mahama’s call for transparency, accountability, and integrity within the military, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening national security and stability.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Chairperson of the Council and Vice President of Ghana, affirmed the council’s resolve to serve with diligence and patriotism.
“As members of this council, we will rise to the responsibility and ensure that his confidence is not misplaced.
“As a council, we accept to service deligently, loyaly with patriotic zeal to reset Ghana and the Ghana Armed Forces too to ensure that we have peace, stability for our believed nation.
Osei Assibey Antwi
Former Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi, reportedly paid a Ghanaian Member of Parliament (MP) to suppress media coverage of the ghost names scandal.
This was revealed by Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine during a briefing to parliament on Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).
Dr. Ayine confirmed that significant progress had been made in uncovering corruption within the scheme.
Dr. Ayine disclosed that eight suspects linked
The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has raised concerns about what he described as growing pressure from sections of the public to fast-track prosecutions, warning that such actions could undermine democratic governance and the rule of law.
At a press conference on Monday, March 24 2025, Dr Ayine stated that while public accountability remains important, prosecutions must not be driven by media campaigns, political commentary, or popular sentiment.
“We must be very clear that prosecutions are not governed by populist sentiment,” he said. “We operate within a constitutional framework that guarantees due process. Prosecutors cannot and should not act simply because a section of the public demands it.”
His remarks follow increased calls from some civil society organisations and political commentators for swift legal action against former public officials facing allegations of corruption.
The Attorney-General stressed that these cases require thorough and lawful investigation before any charges can be laid.
“Any attempt to undermine the procedural integrity of our judicial system for the sake of political optics is not only unhelpful , it is dangerous,” Dr Ayine noted.
He maintained that his office would pursue all credible cases of wrongdoing but reminded the public that investigations often take time, especially in complex financial crime matters.
“If you’ve done your investigations and forwarded a docket, and the docket is not complete, I cannot prosecute,” he said. “If we go and prosecute and the person is acquitted and discharged, they will come back and say we are incompetent.”
Dr Ayine also urged the media to avoid speculation and reporting that could affect ongoing investigations or court proceedings, warning that inaccurate or premature information could jeopardise cases.
“The independence of the judiciary and the prosecutorial discretion of the Attorney-General’s Office are core pillars of democratic governance. We will not sacrifice them on the altar of expediency,” he said.
He added that while his office values public interest in justice matters, it would not act outside the bounds of the law to satisfy political or social expectations.
Shatta Wale has expressed discontent after being “dragged” online, following claims that he was not included in the list of artistes who performed at businessman Richard Nii-Armah Quaye’s 40th birthday party.
It is worth noting that the dancehall musician had previously expressed interest in attending the business mogul’s “showstopping” birthday celebration.
However, his absence from the event sparked massive reactions from netizens online.
Some fans of Shatta’s key industry rivals, Stonebwoy and Sarkodie, took the opportunity to throw jabs at him.
They mocked him for not being chosen while Stonebwoy and Sarkodie were.
In response to these criticisms, Shatta Wale fumed in a Facebook Live session, saying:
“If you talk about ‘power darkness,’ I am the one. If at any point you are told to pray against principalities and you are fond of insulting me, I am the one. I will continue worry you people because you are always talking about me. Ask Nii Armah how much he paid those artistes,” he said.
Shatta Wale also expressed dismay, pointing out that while he is working hard in the music industry, some individuals seem poised at tarnishing his image.
“You people don’t want me to prosper, so how do you expect me to also wish you well? I’m trying in the music industry. I’ve bought a car, a house, and even started my Shaxi business, yet you don’t want to accept that they are all mine.” he added.

Kwabena Adu-Boahene is a former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has revealed that Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has been arrested in connection with the alleged diversion of public funds meant for a cybersecurity defense system.
Addressing the press on Monday, March 24, 2025, Dr. Ayine stated that Adu Boahene was implicated in the unauthorised transfer of $7 million, originally allocated for cybersecurity infrastructure, into his private accounts.
“In his capacity as Director of the National Signals Bureau, Mr. Adu-Boahene on January 30, 2020, signed a contract on behalf of the Government of Ghana and the National Security on one hand and on the other hand, an Israeli company named RLC Holdings Limited. The contract was for the purchase of a cyber defense system software at a price of $7 million,” the Attorney General said.
Providing further details, Dr. Ayine disclosed that just days after signing the agreement, Adu Boahene initiated a suspicious transaction.
“On February 6, 2020, he then transferred an initial amount of GH¢271,000 from the National Signals Bureau account at Fidelity Bank to a private BNC account at UMB. Official documentation on the transfer reveals that the amount was for the payment of cyber defense system software. He transferred the money to his private company,” he told the media.
According to Dr. Ayine, investigations further uncovered that the former NSB boss allegedly funneled the funds not only into his personal account but also into accounts belonging to his wife.
The Attorney-General however assured the public that legal proceedings would follow in due course.

Rasool said the old way of dealing with the US was not going to work under the Trump administration
The South African ambassador who was expelled from the US after a row with Donald Trump’s government has said he has “no regrets”.
Ebrahim Rasool arrived back home on Sunday and was welcomed by hundreds of raucous supporters at Cape Town International Airport.
Tensions between South Africa and the US have been on a downward spiral since Trump came into office in January.
Rasool, 62, was declared unwelcome in the US after Secretary of State Marco Rubio called him a “race-baiting politician who hates America”. It followed a statement by the ambassador that Trump was “mobilising a supremacism” as the States’ white population faced becoming a minority.
Rasool defended his comments on Sunday morning after touching down in Cape Town.
The remarks, made during a webinar organised by a South African think tank, were meant to “alert” South African intellectuals and political leaders “to a change of the way we live, to a change of the way we are positioned in the United States, that the old way of doing business with the US was not a good one”, Rasool said.
While waiting for Rasool to arrive at the airport, members of the African National Congress, South African Communist Party and trade unionists sang and danced.
Some held placards reading “Ebrahim Rasool, you have served our country with honour!!!”
Rasool’s expulsion marked a rare move by the US – lower-ranking diplomats are sometimes expelled, but it is highly unusual for it to happen to a more senior official.
But ties with South Africa have been deteriorating for months.
In January, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa signed into law a bill allowing the state to seize land without compensation, provided it was in the “public interest”.
The move followed years of calls for land reform, with activists and politicians seeking to redistribute farmland from the white minority.
In response to the law, Washington cut aid to South Africa. An executive order cited “unjust racial discrimination” against white Afrikaners – descendants of mainly Dutch settlers who first arrived in the 17th Century.
South Africa has strongly denied this claim.
On Sunday, Rasool lamented that he had not been able to challenge the Trump administration’s views.
He was appointed as ambassador to the US just last year, because of his experience and extensive network of Washington contacts.
He had previously served as US ambassador from 2010 to 2015, when Barack Obama was president.
Rapper Ayigbe Edem has responded to a viral video suggesting he was snubbed by Sarkodie during the exclusive RNAQ40 party hosted by business mogul Richard Nii Armah Quaye.
The incident unfolded as Sarkodie made his way to the stage to entertain guests. Edem attempted to engage him in a conversation, but Sarkodie’s security team intervened, seemingly pushing him aside.
The brief exchange, captured on camera, sparked widespread speculation about tension between the two artists.
However, Edem has dismissed any claims of bad blood, clarifying that there was no issue between them.
Additional footage from the event showed Sarkodie later returning to shake hands with Edem, countering the narrative of an intentional snub.
When asked if Sarkodie had apologized, Edem laughed off the suggestion, stating, “Apologize for doing nothing? Full Agenda boy… One Redbull for you… Keep the energy.”
He also hit back at trolls, making it clear that he was unbothered by the incident.
Despite the controversy, Edem remained focused on enjoying the star-studded event, refusing to entertain unnecessary drama.

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dominic Ayine, has disclosed that the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, was arrested in connection with a controversial $7 million cyber defense system contract which was diverted into his private account.
The revelation was made during a press conference on Monday, March 24, where the Attorney-General detailed the circumstances surrounding the case.
According to Mr. Ayine, the arrest was linked to alleged financial misconduct involving the transfer of public funds intended for the procurement of cybersecurity infrastructure.
Ayine said the contract was valued at $7 million, with the objective of strengthening Ghana’s ability to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats, data breaches, and digital espionage.
Despite the strategic importance of the project, the Attorney-General revealed that Kwabena Adu Boahene engaged in unauthorized financial transactions, diverting funds meant for the cyber defense system.
“In his capacity as Director of the National Signals Bureau, Mr. Adu-Boahene on January 30, 2020, signed a contract on behalf on the Government of Ghana and the National Security on one hand and on the other hand, an Israeli company named RLC Holdings Limited. The contract was for the purchase of a cyber defense system software at a price of $7 million.

Kotaa, (Bono), March 24, GNA – Mr Frank Asamoah, the Headmaster of the Kotaa Methodist Municipal Assembly School in the Berekum Municipality has appealed for support towards the re-roofing of some of the classroom blocks.
A downpour hit the Kotaa community and ripped up some classroom blocks, forcing the school children to study under trees.
The rains, which accompanied a heavy storm, caused extensive destruction to property and structures in the farming community. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kotaa, Mr Asamoah said the classroom blocks that accommodate the form one, form two and form three students were the worst affected.
He said the damage had significantly slowed down academic work, worrying that several textbooks, and other teaching and learning materials had been destroyed and appealed for assistance.
Mr Kwasi Nketia, the Assembly Member for the Kotaa/Domeabra Electoral Area, also highlighted damages caused by the rains, saying the public toilet in the area had also been badly affected.
He said some compound houses in the community were also affected, displacing many of the residents who were currently perching with their relations and friends, adding that he had since reported the incident to the Berekum Municipal office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) awaiting their response.
Mr Nketiah appealed to NGOs, wealthy people and religious organisations and corporate bodies to come to the aid of the affected people.

PwC Ghana, a firm responsible for generating audits, assurance, and tax services across various sectors, has conducted a rigorous review of the 2025 Budget presented by the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, on March 11, 2025.
According to PwC, the government, through its budget presentation, has given clear expression to the economic reset agenda, a commitment it made to Ghanaians during the campaign trail.
Referencing PwC’s 2023 Mid-Year Budget Digest, published in August 2023, the firm stated that its long-standing stance on the urgent need for an economic reset. It stated, “Ghana’s economy urgently needs a reset, perhaps more urgently than many might have thought.”
The report further emphasized that “…the economy remains vulnerable and urgently needs the structural adjustment (i.e., reset) that we [PwC] have long spoken about.”
Additionally, PwC cautioned in its 2023 report that “…businesses and households should continue to tighten their belts before things get better.”
PwC Ghana specializes in audits, assurance, and tax services, offering local expertise and support while delivering a distinctive experience that exceeds clients’ expectations.
The 2025 Budget, as presented by the Finance Minister, outlined several initiatives aimed at fulfilling the government’s promise of resetting the economy.
One major highlight of the budget is the planned scrapping of the electronic levy, a move expected to take effect by March 31, as revealed by Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko, during the Oxfam Tax Dialogue on Channel One TV.
This policy shift, among others, is expected to shape Ghana’s economic landscape as the government seeks to implement reforms to stabilize and strengthen the economy.
Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony on Monday, held at the Defence Ministry, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, who was appointed by President John Mahama as Chairperson of the Council, said, “As a Council, we accept the responsibility to serve diligently, with loyalty and patriotic zeal, to reset Ghana and the Ghana Armed Forces, ensuring that we have peace and stability.”
Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has strongly rebuked Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin over allegations regarding a search conducted by National Security operatives at the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.
Afenyo-Markin had claimed that during the operation, personal belongings, including jewellery and money belonging to Addison’s wife, were stolen by the security personnel.
Addressing these allegations at a press conference on Monday, March 24, 2025, Dr. Ayine dismissed them as baseless and an “insult to the security service.”
“If Afenyo-Markin is daring me, I will make that recording available, so he should resist maligning law enforcement officers who are conducting investigations, and myself for the work we are doing,” Dr. Ayine warned.
He further assured the public that all investigative procedures were conducted ethically and in the best interest of the nation.

The Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South East, Yakubu Mohammed, has called for increased public education on the use of footbridges and the implementation of speed control measures on highways to prevent road accidents.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, March 19, the Ahafo Ano South East lawmaker stressed the need to educate the public, particularly those from rural communities, on the importance and proper use of footbridges.
“Some of us who come from rural areas may not fully understand the importance of footbridges.
“It should not be limited to road signs alone, because people without formal education may not be able to read and understand their purpose. There should be awareness campaigns on radio and TV to inform the public about the location of footbridges and the need to use them for their safety,” he stated.
His call comes at a critical time when Ghana is grappling with rising road fatalities.
In 2024 alone, 2,494 people lost their lives to road crashes, marking a 9.58 percent increase compared to 2023.
Between January and June 2024, 1,237 lives were lost due to road accidents, reflecting a 12.97 percent increase from the same period the previous year.
Additionally, pedestrian-related accidents continue to be a major concern, with 1,219 pedestrians struck by vehicles in the first half of 2024.
Beyond footbridges, the MP also highlighted the urgent need for speed control measures in his constituency, particularly in Edugyama, the capital of Ahafo Ano South East, which is situated along the Kumasi-Sunyani highway.
He lamented the absence of speed bumps on the newly-constructed road, which has led to frequent accidents.
“Every day, we wake up to news of people being knocked down while crossing the road. Just this past weekend, a District Chief Executive (DCE) was involved in an accident due to over speeding. In my hometown, Abesewa, residents keep complaining about the dangers posed by speeding vehicles,” he said.
Research shows that implementing speed control measures such as speed bumps can significantly reduce accidents. Studies indicate that speed bumps can lead to a 40% reduction in vehicle speeds, decreasing speed-related crashes.
Furthermore, the presence of speed humps have been associated with a 53 percent to 60 percent reduction in the odds of injury or death among children.
Yakubu Mohammed also urged Parliament and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to prioritise the installation of speed bumps in accident-prone areas, emphasising that the safety of citizens should take precedence over maintaining high-speed limits on highways.
“The lives of individuals are more important than the speed at which drivers are allowed to move,” he concluded.
His statement has reignited discussions in Parliament about pedestrian safety measures and the role of government agencies in preventing avoidable road accidents.

Kwabena Adu-Boahene is a former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has disclosed that the immediate past Director of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, allegedly diverted and embezzled up to GH¢39 million from the agency.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, March 24, 2025, the Attorney General outlined the findings of an ongoing investigation into financial irregularities at the NSB.
“GH¢39,462,480 million went into Adu-Boahene and his wife’s pockets from one transaction,” the Attorney General said.
“We are still tracking suspect Adu-Boahene, his wife, and their assets. In the coming days, we will file the necessary charges against them,” he stated.
Dr. Daniel Armateye Anim, Business strategist and financial analyst
Business strategist and financial analyst, Dr. Daniel Armateye Anim, has advised the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, to maintain the policy rate at 27 percent to further monitor Ghana’s macroeconomic environment.
According to him, this would allow the central bank to make timely decisions and projections for the next quarter.
“Considering the recent dynamics of macroeconomic indicators, particularly inflation rates, my view is that the Bank of Ghana should maintain the policy rate at 27 percent to allow for further monitoring of the macroeconomic environment. This would enable the bank to make appropriate projections for the next quarter. In my opinion, that would be the most prudent approach,” he told GhanaWeb Business on March 24, 2025.
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Ghana is holding its 123rd regular meetings from Monday, March 24, 2025, to Wednesday, March 26, 2025, to review economic developments over the past two months.
The meetings will conclude with a press conference on Friday, March 28, 2025, where the Committee will announce its decision on the new policy rate.
Speaking to GhanaWeb Business, Dr. Anim emphasised the need for the central bank to maintain the current policy rate despite calls by some market watchers for an adjustment.
He stated that maintaining the policy rate would enable the Bank of Ghana to make well-informed decisions to address Ghana’s inflationary pressures by tightening its monetary policy appropriately.
“While I acknowledge that some are calling for a revision, I believe the rate should be maintained to provide the BoG with clarity on the direction of the economy. This will allow the bank to make meaningful and effective projections that support the overall objective of curbing inflationary pressures,” he added.

A stunning moment during businessman Richard Nii Armah Quaye’s 40th birthday has gotten social media talking, as Nigerian actor Ramsey Nouah was spotted having a good time with Ghanaian actress Joselyn Dumas.
Ramsey Nouah was spotted dancing on the dancefloor with Joselyn Dumas by him. As they both danced, Dumas started tw*rking, taking her into Nouah’s space.
Nouah at a point hooked Dumas by the waist as they both wiggled their bodies to Sarkodie’s ‘Baby’.
Despite the good time they were having, another lady had her hands all over the Nigerian actor, indicating how he was a ‘hot cake’ on the night.
Social media users spotted the lady and dragged her for ‘spoiling’ things for Ramsey Nouah in regards to Joselyn.
“Why is the other lady messing things up for Ramsey 😂😂😂” one user commented.
The #RNAQ40 party, the largest of its kind in Ghanaian history, was the 40th birthday bash for business mogul Richard Quaye. Aside from Ghanaian celebrities and businessmen, he invited numerous top Nigerian celebs, including Nouah, Rita Dominic, Ini Edo, Swanky, Enioluwa, Toke Makinwa, and others.
Parliament has summoned the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, to appear before the House tomorrow, March 25, 2025, to brief members on circumstances leading to the search of the residence of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Ernest Addison, last Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
The Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, announced this when he presented the Business Statement for the ensuing week on the floor of Parliament last Friday.
“Mr Speaker, the Business Committee has scheduled the Minister for the Interior to brief the House on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, on the circumstances leading to the raid of the residence of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025,” he said.
“Honourable Members are to take note and avail themselves for the briefing on the said date,” the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South said.
Some armed men said to be security operatives last Wednesday dawn allegedly stormed Dr Addison’s residence at Roman Ridge searching for cash in a supposed vault.
Minority presser
Following the incident, the Minority in Parliament held a press conference at the Parliament House last Thursday to condemn what they described as a pattern of unlawful raids targeting appointees of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who addressed the press conference recalled a similar incident where another high-profile former official had also been subjected to a similar raid.
“First was a raid on the home of the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, led by Richard Jakpa, a known NDC activist, who describes himself as Director of Operations at the National Security,” he said.
Mr Afenyo-Markin said these raids were being conducted in a manner that violated the rights of the individuals involved, adding: “This Rambo-style approach must cease.”
Government response
Since the incident happened, some government officials, including the Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, have said it was a search that was conducted at the private residence of the former Governor of the BoG as part of ongoing investigations into the alleged misappropriation of state assets.
He stated that the operation, which took place last Wednesday, was carried out legally with a valid warrant.
“We take full responsibility for these searches, and I can confirm they were conducted in accordance with legal procedures,” he said.
Current BoG Governor briefs Parliament
Presenting the Business Statement, Mr Ricketts-Hagan also announced that the current Governor of the BoG, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, has been scheduled to brief the House on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, on the circumstances leading to the collapse of some banks and other financial institutions for consideration of the House.
Based on this, the First Deputy Minority Chief Whip and New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Tolon, Habib Iddrisu, cautioned the House to be specific on which of the banks and the financial institutions the Governor of BoG was coming to speak on, since some of these banks’ cases were in Court.
Responding to his concerns, the Deputy Majority Leader said the briefing by the BoG Governor was not about the issues in court but to provide information for MPs who were the representatives of the people and not to prejudice the cases.

“The rain fall is erratic and so the government is targeting irrigation development because without water, farming becomes difficult and I remember last year after our farmers had planted at a point the rains stopped for about 10 weeks and many farmers lost their crops and so our intention is to focus on irrigation and agriculture and the Northern Region will get its share of the initial 10,000 hectares of land that we will put under irrigation,” he said.
According to him, the Northern Region has great potential in agriculture and can provide the food security the country needs.
“Agriculture is the backbone of the Northern Region’s economy and to support all year farming, solar powered irrigation systems will be established at various parts of the Northern Region to ensure water access to small and large scale farming.”
He made this known when he paid a courtesy call on the King of Dagbon, Ndan Ya Naa, Abukari II at his Gbewah palace in Yendi as part of his thank you tour of the Northern Region.
President Mahama, stated that farm to market roads will be constructed to reduce post-harvest losses and improve market accessibility.
He assured the Ya Naa and the people of the North that roads, infrastructure among other projects will be prioritised by his administration.
“I want to assure the people of the Northern Region that when we share the national cake you will always get your fair share,” he said.
The King of Dagbon, told President Mahama that enhancing agricultural productivity will boost local economy, food security and improve the income of families.
He urged him to renovate the existing irrigation dams that have not seen renovation for several decades, especially the Bontanga irrigation dam, adding that setting up new irrigation dams will greatly enhance the productivity of peasant farmers and improve their income generation for better lives.
President John Dramani Mahama has called on members of the newly sworn-in Ghana Armed Forces Council to execute their duties with wisdom, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to national service.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony on Monday, March 24, President Mahama underscored the crucial role the council plays in maintaining Ghana’s stability, strengthening national security, and ensuring that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) operates at the highest level of professionalism.
He reminded the council members that their decisions would have far-reaching implications for the country’s defense strategy and the overall well-being of the military.
In his address, the President underscored the council’s responsibility to protect and preserve the peace Ghana has enjoyed over the years.
He urged them to be proactive in identifying and addressing emerging security threats.
The President noted that in an era of evolving security challenges, the Armed Forces Council must be vigilant and forward-thinking in its approach to national defense.
“The decision you make as a council will shape the future of our Armed Forces and it is therefore imperative that you approach this job with wisdom and integrity and a deep commitment to national service.
“In today’s world, the nature of our security threats are rapidly evolving. From terrorism and cyber crime to political instability and climate-related security challenges.”
March has been an inspiring month for women as the world came together to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 7th.
Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang in a speech at the 2025 Women’s Dialogue rightly said there was the need for inclusive efforts to uplift all Ghanaian women, “whether parents, traders, farmers, fisherfolk, other professionals…”
It was exciting to hear the vice president acknowledge the role of women farmers and fisherfolks, as they represent a vital but often overlooked segment of our society.
Women contribute to every stage of the agrifood systems, from farming to food processing, trading, and distribution. They are the backbone of our food systems.
Although women constitute more than 50% of the agricultural workforce globally, the Food and Agricultural Organisation 2023 Status of Women in Agrifood Systems Report notes women in agricultural production often work under extremely challenging and unfair conditions.
Edith Akosah Wheatland, CEO of Rockland Farms
Women still face significant barriers in accessing essential assets and resources crucial for agrifood systems – such as land, inputs, services, finance, and digital technology – leaving them at a disadvantage compared to men. Women in agriculture frequently work as unpaid family labourers or casual workers.
On average, they earn 18.4% less than men in the agrifood systems. Although 63% of women in sub-Saharan Africa are engaged in agriculture and contribute between 60 to 80% of the continent’s food production, they receive only 10% of the revenue generated from the sector.
Despite these challenges, some women entrepreneurs in agrifood systems are breaking barriers, demonstrating resilience, innovation, and leadership.
Through their determination, they are transforming their own businesses, driving social change and reshaping the agricultural landscape for future generations.
One such trailblazer is Edith Akosah Wheatland, CEO of Rockland Farms. After working in the UK and the USA, she returned to Ghana in 2012 to help build the local economy through poultry farming.
Today, she leads Rockland Farms, Rockland Meats, and Eco Feeding Ghana Limited in the Sekyere Central District of Ghana.
Rockland Farms produces and sells eggs and broilers while supporting women poultry farmers through an out-grower scheme.
This initiative provides women with essential inputs to raise chickens, which they sell to Rockland Meats at competitive prices for processing. Additionally, Edith supports maize farmers through another out-grower scheme, supplying them with inputs in exchange for maize, which is used for animal feed.
To further empower women, she established a Village Savings and Loans Scheme, enabling women farmers to access financial resources.
Speaking at an International Women’s Day event organized by AGRA and FAO in Accra, Edith reflected on the challenges she has faced in building her agribusiness: “Everybody says Rockland is a success story but no one goes back to look at the challenges that she has to go through to get to that point… I started processing three birds in a plucker, then doing 100, 200, 500. Now we are doing 2000 birds a day,” she said. A plucker is a machine designed to remove feathers from poultry.
Edith expressed gratitude to AGRA’s VALUE4HER initiative for the support that has made it possible for her business to grow into one of Ghana’s biggest agribusiness success stories.
“In my village where my farm is, I had the women always coming to me for support. And I set up one Village Savings and Loans group. When AGRA found me, I had 35. They supported me. Now we have over 200 VSLA groups,” she explained.
“Last year, among themselves, they contributed GH¢2 million. They borrow from the farm, they grow the maize, I buy the maize, and they put their own interest in it. And now it is a successful story. But starting it wasn’t easy. Because when you give up, they will be at your door,” Edith added.
Edith’s journey is a show of resilience, innovation, and the power of women-led change. From starting with a simple plucker to building one of Ghana’s most impactful agribusinesses, she has not only transformed her own enterprise but also uplifted hundreds of women farmers through financial inclusion, mentorship, and sustainable business models.
Embracing collaboration and continuously adapting to industry needs has positioned her as a true social shifter who is redefining the role of women in agriculture and paving the way for a more equitable and thriving agrifood sector.
Edith told the event she is seeking support in the form of a loan to expand.
“We need about $5 million to set up a processing plant. With that, we can do three shifts. With those three shifts, we can do 48,000 birds a day. We have the market there. With that, we can create 260,000 jobs across the value chain,” she said.
Women agribusiness entrepreneurs leading change like Edith deserve the necessary support from state and non-state actors.
Women bring unique perspectives and innovations to agribusiness, like value addition, market diversification, and community-based approaches, which should be encouraged With the right support, these entrepreneurs can drive significant innovation within the agri-food systems sector.
Supporting women in agribusiness benefits society as a whole, helps ensure stronger communities, and ultimately ensures broader economic and social development.

The minority caucus in Parliament has accused the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine of abusing his office by ordering searches, arrests, and conducting investigations into former government appointees.
The group claim that the current actions of national security operatives ordered by the AG undermine the constitutional mandate of the office.
Addressing journalists in Parliament on Monday, March 24, Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, called on the Attorney General to immediately halt such actions.
According to Ahmed Shaib, photographs circulating on social media show signs of destruction and ransacking.
Ahmed Shaib raised several questions regarding the legality and conduct of the raid, particularly questioning why, if a court-issued warrant truly existed, it was not presented to Dr Addisson before or during the operation.
“Brute force was used to overpower his private security” and why “the CCTV camera was dismantled and taken away.”
“Transparency is a hallmark that ensures lawful enforcement,” Ahmed Shaib continued.
He has raised serious concerns about the conduct of a recent raid, questioning the legality and intent behind the operation.
“The failure to follow basic procedures casts doubt on the legality and intent of the operation. No amount of legal contortion or public relations spin can undo the facts,” he queried.
He added, “If indeed a court-issued warrant truly existed, why was it not presented to Dr Addisson before or during the raid?”
The Minority is also demanding that an apology must be rendered to the former governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison for the search at his residence.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Akrofuom, Joseph Azumah, has called for a comprehensive review of all small-scale mining operations in the country, urging authorities to take swift action against illegal mining.
According to him, this review is essential to halting the environmental devastation caused by unregulated mining.
Speaking on Ahotor FM, he emphasized the urgent need for transparency and pledged to provide crucial evidence to expose unlawful mining activities.
Exposing Illegal Mining Networks
MP Azumah reaffirmed his full support for an in-depth investigation into the sector, vowing to assist in uncovering unauthorized operations.
He said the country could not afford to ignore the widespread destruction of its forests and water bodies.
“I am ready to provide all necessary evidence to expose those engaging in illegal mining. This country cannot continue to suffer because of a few greedy individuals,” he declared.
The lawmaker alleged that the previous government strategically issued small-scale mining licenses to its party executives, which allowed them to exploit the country’s forest reserves under the guise of legal mining.
He asserted that these licenses were used as a political tool, leading to massive environmental degradation.
“The NPP deliberately granted mining licenses to their own people, disguising it as small-scale mining. This is why our forests have been destroyed,” he asserted.
Government’s Response
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, recently stated that the government had revoked all small-scale mining licenses issued after December 7, 2024.
According to him, this move follows recommendations from a technical committee seeking to restore order in the sector.
The Akrofuom MP urged the government to act decisively and ensure that the review process exposes those who have abused the system for personal gain.
“The people of Ghana deserve accountability. If this review is conducted properly, the truth will come out about those responsible for the destruction of our forests. No one should be shielded,” he asserted.
Tensions have erupted within the Ghana Air Force following President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong as the Acting Chief of Air Staff.
The decision has not only sparked discontent among junior and senior officers at the Military Airforce Base but has also ignited strong opposition from within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Party loyalists are questioning Agyen-Frempong’s allegiance to the Mahama-led administration, citing his marriage to a known New Patriotic Party (NPP) member as a major concern.
Reports suggest that NDC grassroots supporters fear his close ties to the opposition party could compromise the government’s agenda and create conflicts of interest in national security operations.
“The president cannot appoint someone whose wife is an active NPP executive. How do we trust him to fully support the NDC government’s vision when his household is aligned with our political opponents?” one NDC member expressed.
Dissenting voices within the party argue that the appointment undermines the sacrifices of dedicated NDC members who fought to bring the party back to power in the 2024 elections. Some foot soldiers have even accused Agyen-Frempong of harboring sympathies for the NPP, citing instances where his actions allegedly worked against the interests of the NDC.
As the controversy grows, insiders indicate that President Mahama has been made aware of the widespread concerns, with calls intensifying for the appointment to be rescinded.
Party members fear that retaining Agyen-Frempong in such a critical military role could lead to governance gridlocks, policy conflicts, and even internal sabotage.
Dr. John Krah-Klenam, a leading NDC foot soldier, warned that appointing a perceived opposition figure to a key security position could disrupt government operations and create instability within the administration.
“We are preventing political instability. Since we know him to be an NPP mole, he could prioritize his party’s interests over the ruling government’s agenda, potentially undermining key initiatives. This could lead to distrust within the administration,” he argued.
While some acknowledge Agyen-Frempong’s professional competence as an Air Commodore, they insist that his alleged political affiliation makes him unsuitable for the role.
NDC members demanding his removal believe that allowing him to remain in office could erode confidence in the party’s leadership.
With pressure mounting, all eyes are on President Mahama to determine whether he will stand by his decision or heed the growing calls to revoke the appointment.
The Chairperson of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, has emphasised the need for greater transparency in decision-making and improved communication of forward-looking guidance as the Committee begins its 123rd regular meeting.
Speaking at the opening session on Monday, March 24, 2025, Dr. Asiama acknowledged growing public concerns that MPC decisions are made behind closed doors without clear, data-driven reasoning.
To address this, he proposed enhancing the accessibility of decision factors, either by publishing voting outcomes or by strengthening the narrative content of policy statements.
“We need to simplify the way we present forecasts so the public and market participants can better understand the underlying policy story. These changes, in my view, will strengthen our credibility and deepen trust in the policy framework,” he stated.
The MPC Chair also provided an overview of the macroeconomic environment in which the meeting is taking place.
“While inflation is easing, it remains uncomfortably high, at over 23 percent, and progress has been slow, particularly on a month-on-month basis. For instance, structural drivers of food inflation remain persistent. The external environment, though currently supportive, is becoming increasingly volatile.
“We’ve seen a strong trade surplus and solid reserve build-up on the back of gold exports and remittance flows. But a possible escalation in global tariff wars, rising geopolitical tensions, and weakening Chinese demand could quickly shift the dynamics. These global factors could also have spillover effects on inflation, capital flows, and exchange rate stability,” he pointed out.
Touching on the domestic front, the BoG Governor said, “The 2024 fiscal outturn was expansionary, with the deficit exceeding program targets. We have seen encouraging signs of consolidation early in 2025, but questions remain as to whether current measures are adequate to anchor expectations and satisfy upcoming IMF program reviews.”
The MPC Chair also highlighted evolving financial conditions, noting increased liquidity in the system and concerns from commercial banks about the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) framework.
The current policy rate is pegged at 27%.
