The turban hat, once associated with traditional or cultural attire, has become a bold and stylish accessory in the world of modern fashion. Women of all ages are embracing the turban hat as a versatile piece that adds sophistication, elegance, and a touch of mystique to any outfit. This headwear, often made from soft fabrics like silk, cotton, or jersey, has seamlessly transitioned from being a purely functional item to a statement piece in the fashion world.
One of the main reasons turban hats are gaining popularity is their versatility. They can be worn on a variety of occasions, from casual outings to more formal events. Whether paired with a chic dress for a night out or worn with a casual t-shirt and jeans, the turban hat elevates the overall look. The wraparound design and the variety of colors and patterns available make it easy to find a turban hat that complements different outfits.
Furthermore, turban hats have become increasingly popular in the fashion industry due to their ability to make a bold statement. Celebrities and influencers have been spotted wearing turban hats on runways, red carpets, and in daily street style. This trend has helped to break down the conventional boundaries of fashion, encouraging women to experiment with their looks and express themselves freely.
For many women, wearing a turban hat also symbolizes empowerment. The turban’s rich cultural history and its reimagining in modern fashion bring attention to the diverse ways women can incorporate heritage into contemporary styles. Additionally, the turban hat provides practicality by shielding hair from the sun, offering a chic alternative to traditional hats, and even serving as a stylish solution for bad hair days.
In conclusion, the turban hat is much more than just a fashionable accessory. It represents a blend of cultural history, modern style, and personal expression, making it a must-have for any fashionable woman’s wardrobe.
Healthcare workers in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region are facing significant challenges following the imposition of a nighttime curfew, which they say is affecting their ability to provide essential medical services.
The curfew, enforced by the Ministry for the Interior from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, was introduced on January 28, as a security measure in response to violent tribal clashes that resulted in multiple fatalities.
While the curfew aims to restore peace and order, it has unintended consequences on health service delivery, particularly emergency response services, community outreach programmes, and general hospital operations.
The Oti Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Osei Kuffour Afreh expressed deep concern over the impact of the restrictions, stating that healthcare workers are now fearful and hesitant to move around, especially at night, for fear of violence.
Speaking to journalists after the 2024 Regional Health Review, Dr. Afreh revealed that healthcare delivery has come under intense pressure since the curfew was implemented.
He lamented that the ongoing insecurity has already claimed the life of a health worker, further heightening anxiety among medical personnel.
“The curfew is really affecting healthcare delivery in the Nkwanta South Municipality. Unfortunately, during the recent clashes in January this year, through that, one of our health workers, an IT manager, was shot dead at home.
“And this has put a lot of fear in the health workers here. And it is really affecting them going out to deliver health care services. One of our vehicles that was en route to the community for outreach services also received some bullets of about 30 bullet holes.”

NPP Contracted us to Burn All Markets: NPP boys confess as Police Arrest them
News Hub Creator1d
Recent developments have surfaced involving members of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) in connection with a series of market fires across the country. A video circulating online features individuals purportedly affiliated with the NPP confessing to being contracted to set ablaze various markets. These confessions have led to their arrest by the police, who are currently investigating the veracity of these claims and the extent of the involvement of political figures.
Historical Context of Market Fires
Ghana has experienced several market fires in recent years, leading to significant economic losses and affecting the livelihoods of many traders. The causes of these fires have often been subjects of debate, with accusations and counter-accusations between political parties. In previous instances, the NPP accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating market fires to create instability. For example, in December 2020, the NPP alleged that the NDC was behind a series of market fires, citing threats by some opposition elements to burn markets as a form of protest against election results.
Official Responses
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the recent arrests and allegations. The police are expected to conduct thorough investigations to ascertain the facts and hold accountable those responsible, irrespective of their political affiliations.
Public Concern
These allegations have sparked public outrage, with citizens demanding transparency and justice. Market traders, who are the primary victims of these fires, are particularly anxious for swift action to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of their businesses.
Conclusion
The implications of political parties engaging in or endorsing such destructive acts are profound, threatening the nation’s stability and the public’s trust in its leaders. As investigations proceed, it is imperative for the authorities to act impartially and ensure that those found culpable face the full extent of the law.

Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo believes he can do better in terms of performances for the national team after his latest goal.
Semenyo scored the first of five goals as Ghana put up a five-star performance at the Accra Sports Stadium against Chad on matchday five of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The goal against Chad was his third for the Black Stars in 21 games since making his debut in 2022 and his first since scoring against Angola in March 2023.
In an exclusive interview with Lawrence Baidoo for SuperSport, the Bournemouth attacker revealed his desire to keep improving in front of goal.
“I definitely want more goals. For sure. I think any player that plays in an attacking position wants more goals, but I feel like it’s been some decent performances, some not great performances, but I mean, I’m quite humble. I know when I’ve played well. I know when I’ve played pretty badly,” he said.
I spoke to Bournemouth star, Antoine Semenyo on the back of his goal for @GhanaBlackstars and their #FIFAWorldCup chances as they gear up for the clash vs. Madagascar on Monday.
— Lawrence Degraft Baidoo (@kweku_lawrence) March 23, 2025
Semenyo admitted he has not been clutch for the national team, but he’s optimistic that he can only get better.
“So I’ll just say it’s just like a steady slope. It’s just been very average, and I feel like I can still give, give more,” he added.
“So I hope no one’s judging me from these 26 games I’ve played so far. But yeah, there’s more to come.”
After scoring against Chad, Semenyo will hope he can get on the scoresheet again when the Black Stars face Madagascar in their next game on Monday, March 24, in an attempt to stretch their lead in Group I of the World Cup Qualifiers.

Hearts managed to halt their poor run of consecutive defeats on Sunday
Bibiani Gold Stars and Hearts of Oak battled to a 1-1 draw at Dun’s Park on Sunday, a result that proved costly for the home side as they dropped to second place in the Ghana Premier League standings.
Hearts of Oak, on the other hand, managed to halt their poor run of consecutive defeats, easing some pressure on coach Aboubakar Ouattara. The Phobians were without first-choice goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who is currently with the Black Stars in Morocco, but his replacement, Kwesi Nketiah, delivered a steady performance.
The match saw a controversial moment when the referee awarded a penalty to Bibiani Gold Stars, only to rescind the decision after consulting the fourth official following protests from the Hearts of Oak bench in the second half. The decision led to heated reactions from Gold Stars players and supporters, forcing police intervention on the pitch.
Despite the setback, Gold Stars eventually broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute when Gideon Anaba converted from the spot. Just as they thought they had secured all three points, Stephen Appiah Asare struck late for Hearts of Oak to salvage a draw.
The result keeps Hearts of Oak in the top four as they prepare to face fellow top-four contenders Nations FC. Bibiani Gold Stars, now second in the standings, will look to bounce back against Heart of Lions.
Full List Of Possible NPP flagbearer contenders for 2028: Afenyo-Markin Reveals
News Hub Creator1d
In a recent interview on The KSM Show, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, discussed potential contenders for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position.
He mentioned that former Vice President and 2024 flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is considering another run. Additionally, Kennedy Agyapong, who previously contested in 2023, is expected to make a comeback. Afenyo-Markin also noted that other possible candidates include Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong and former Education Minister Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum. Reflecting on the NPP’s performance in the recent elections, Afenyo-Markin acknowledged the party’s disappointing results, with their parliamentary seats reduced to 88 compared to the NDC’s 187. He emphasized the necessity for internal restructuring, rebranding, and revitalizing the party base. As the current Minority Leader, he feels a responsibility to lead these efforts, especially in the absence of a designated party leader or flagbearer.
Afenyo-Markin stated, “As a Minority Leader, you must also lead the rebranding. Now, there is no party leader. We don’t have a flagbearer yet. So now, as a leader in Parliament, de facto, everything is on my shoulders. The party is looking at it, members in Parliament must activate themselves. I also see that I have a responsibility to lead the rebranding of the party.”
These insights shed light on the NPP’s current introspection and the potential figures who may steer its future direction.

The airline is poised to revolutionize the palm oil industry as the world’s premier organic vegetable oil producer, empowering Ghana to repay its debts within 12 to 36 months. This groundbreaking initiative is set to become a hallmark achievement of the new administration, showcasing Ghana’s commitment to sustainable economic growth and environmental stewardship.
People’s choice Goldstar Air, a private Ghanaian and United States registered company with an issued Air Carrier Licence (ACL) from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to operate passenger and cargo flights across West Africa and Intercontinental routes is well positioned to play a key role in resetting Ghana’s agricultural sector and elevating it to an industrial level.
Goldstar Air is expecting the new administration to compel the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority to assemble a new certification team within this month to take the airline through the remaining phases of its Safety Certificate (AOC), as the airline is above halfway through the process to help reset Ghana’s economy and fulfill the over two million direct and indirect job opportunities for Ghanaians. The Ghanaian youth cannot wait any longer in the gettos, they need their well-paying jobs.
The airline will team up with some farmers for 24-hour production, aiming to make Ghana the largest exporter of organic agricultural products and one of the highest contributors to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Investment in the agricultural sector is also the way to alleviating poverty in Ghana.
Organic farming is the production of food without the use of synthetic chemicals or genetically modified components. While organic foods are not entirely chemical free, their pesticide residues are significantly lower than those found in produce manufactured with synthetic chemicals.
Organic foods may be grown on land previously used for conventional farming, which means they might contain trace amounts of chemical residues. However, compared to conventional farming, organic agriculture drastically reduces pesticide exposure by eliminating synthetic chemicals from the production process.
Goldstar Air’s in-flight menu policy is to serve only organic meals. To support this initiative, the airline will assist farmers in producing the required ingredients and foodstuffs through large-scale, 24-hour industrial farming for both local consumption and export markets. As a result, Ghana will be positioned as one of the leading producers of organic agricultural products.
The introduction of Ghanaian cuisine and traditional drinks on board Goldstar Air flights aligns with the airline’s mission to reset the agricultural sector and customize its catering school and services to reflect the airline’s brand identity. This initiative will provide significant opportunities for Ghanaian food and beverage companies, as Goldstar Air showcases local delicacies to a global audience.
Goldstar Air will introduce an integrated platform to support Ghanaian exporters of agricultural products who are registered with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA). Through this initiative, the airline will offer free advertising space to participating companies on: In-flight magazines, the airline’s digital platform, and screens during takeoff and landing.
The global food service market reached $2.52 trillion US dollars in 2021 and was projected to grow to $4.43 trillion US dollars by 2028, reflecting a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 9.9% from 2021 to 2028.
Ghana, known for its rich and diverse agricultural landscape, produces a wide variety of farm produce across its sixteen regions. The country’s fertile soils and favorable climate support the cultivation of numerous crops essential for both local consumption and export markets. Goldstar Air will support and promote agricultural festivals and events that showcase Ghana’s agricultural heritage and products.
Northern Ghana contributes up to 80% of Ghana’s food basket for both local and international markets. Major crops include yam, groundnuts, millet, cassava, maize, sorghum, rice, and beans, while livestock production includes cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, and pigs. Goldstar Air aims to help increase this contribution to over 90%.
Agriculture is the backbone of every economy, creating jobs and funding schools, roads, hospitals, and public services. Even if you live in the city, agriculture affects you in ways you might not understand. The food you buy, the gas you pump, the clothes you wear, they all connect back to farming.
According to the United Nations, the global agriculture sector contributes over $3.5 trillion USD annually, accounting for 4% of the world’s GDP and 27% of total global employment.
Goldstar Air will support farmers to focus on value chain development in agriculture, an area where Ghana has the potential to reduce imports and enhance 24-hour local production. Ghana should not need to import certain products when it has the resources to produce them locally, 24/7.
Goldstar Air’s 24-hour agribusiness initiative will focus on creating, transporting, and supplying agricultural products for end consumption. Agricultural products are naturally produced resources used for human consumption or other purposes. The agriculture value chain requires the support of multiple sectors and industries to ensure efficiency and sustainability. Food security generate the necessary resources for the development of other sectors including industry, education, health and infrastructure in the medium to long term.
Goldstar Air’s agribusiness initiative will encompass all providers engaged in value-added activities within Ghana’s agricultural sector. It will connect input providers, producers, processors, and other service providers to consumers of crops, livestock, and other natural resources.
Agribusiness is the entire agricultural value chain, from raw materials and resources used to cultivate biological products to distributors and retailers responsible for delivering finished goods to consumers. This value chain consists of four key segments: Input Providers are suppliers of seeds, fertilizers, machinery, and other essential agricultural inputs. Producers are farmers and agricultural enterprises cultivating crops and livestock. Processors are entities that refine and package agricultural products. Service Providers are marketers, distributors, logistics companies, and retailers.
The government must secure large tracts of farmland for industrial farming to attract big investors with the financial muscle to invest in agriculture 24/7. Expanding irrigation systems to support these round-the-clock industrial farms will enable the cultivation of hundreds of thousands of acres all year round. During both day and night, heavy duty equipment with headlights should be used.
Industrial farming is the key to unlocking Ghana’s self-sufficiency in food and income. Goldstar Air will harness technology, innovation, and scale up processing capacity which will transform agriculture in the Country into a thriving industry, boosting productivity, creating jobs, and propelling Ghana towards economic prosperity.
This effort must be supported by large scale organic fertilizer manufacturing plants to reduce reliance on imports and to supply the industrial farms, creating thousands of jobs for the teeming Ghanaian youth. Operating these farms 24 hours a day will make Ghana self-sufficient in food production and a net exporter of organic foods, thereby reducing the country over reliance on food imports.
According to Eric Bannerman, Chairman and CEO of Goldstar Air, the airline will support farmers in 24-hour large-scale production of six key organic product categories: Grains (Rice, millet, groundnuts, maize), Staples (Yam, cassava, beans, plantain, cocoyam), Vegetables (Carrots, tomatoes, onions, garden eggs, lettuce, chili, and sweet peppers), Cooking Oils (Palm oil, soybean oil, coconut oil), Desserts (Cocoa, coffee, oranges, tangerines) Livestock & Fish (Poultry, cattle, goats, tilapia, red snapper)
Goldstar Air will allocate portion for in-flight catering services to promote Ghanaian cuisine and the remaining products will be supplied to markets the airline will create. This initiative will reset Ghana’s agricultural sector, providing the necessary push to increase revenue and help offset the country’s national debt, which currently stands at GHS 761.2 billion (representing 75.7% of Ghana’s GDP). The airline projects that this transformation could be achieved within 12 to 36 months.
Goldstar Air is championing a proactive approach to help Ghana cultivate self-reliance by enhancing agricultural investments aimed at achieving sustainable food security, job creation, and economic independence. This initiative aligns with the airline’s goal of creating over two million direct and indirect jobs.
Globally, agricultural production is categorized into two main systems; crop production and livestock production. Other systems include aquatic and forestry production. Crop production involves providers who convert inputs into crops on land or in greenhouses. Some inputs, such as sunlight and water, are naturally occurring, while others, like fertilizers and pesticides are sourced from input providers. Livestock production involves producers who take feed and other inputs and convert animals into meat, milk, eggs, and other animal products.
The reset of agriculture to 24-hour service will promote and publicize made-in-Ghana agriculture products, making them more competitive in international markets. Additionally, the 24-hour farmers will have the opportunity to sell their products as duty-free items onboard. However, companies must be willing to sign an agreement with Goldstar Air as their exclusive transportation partner.
Goldstar Air will also produce documentaries, cooking shows, and digital content showcasing the stories behind Ghanaian cuisine. By collaborating with food influencers and bloggers, the airline aims to increase visibility and generate interest in Ghanaian food culture worldwide to reset agriculture.
Ghanaian cuisine, renowned for its rich flavors, diverse ingredients, and cultural significance, has the potential to captivate international taste buds. Through strategic promotion of its unique dishes and culinary traditions, Ghana can position its cuisine for global recognition and acclaim.
Goldstar Air is proud to serve in-flight meals which will feature exclusively organic produce, sourced from the industrial farms in Ghana. Harvested all year- round, these fresh ingredients will not only delight our passengers but also support local communities and contribute to Ghana’s economic growth through the export markets.
Food is an essential part of the travel experience, and Goldstar Air’s introduction of Ghanaian cuisine aims to make flights more enjoyable and memorable. Passengers will savor the rich flavors of Ghana while flying, creating a unique and immersive travel experience.
Goldstar Air has collaborated with local chefs and culinary experts to develop and refine its in-flight menu. This partnership ensures the authenticity of the dishes while promoting Ghanaian culinary talent on an international platform.
The airline’s commitment to quality and authenticity will ensure that all dishes will be prepared using traditional recipes and fresh organic ingredients, offering passengers an authentic culinary experience at 30,000 feet above sea level. Goldstar Air’s in-flight catering is dedicated to enhancing passenger experience, satisfaction, and comfort during air travel.
Goldstar Air looks forward to serving passengers authentic indigenous African traditional drinks, including Chapman, Asaana, Sobolo, Pito, Burkina, Lamugin, Palm wine (a sweet alcoholic drink fermented from palm tree sap, traditionally served in a local calabash). Additionally, passengers will enjoy Ghana’s signature Golden Tree chocolate drinks and bars.
The in-flight menu will also feature a variety of popular Ghanaian delicacies, including Plantain chips, Koose, Roasted plantain, Tapioca, Ekuegbemi, Tiger nut pudding, Oblayoo, Massa, Kuli-kuli, Akpiti, Adonlee, Kelewele, Acheke, Waakye, Fufu, Kenkey, Banku, Red red, Abolo, Yakayaka, Aboboi, and Tatale.
Goldstar Air patrons will soon delight in a range of scrumptious meals that align with the airline’s brand. The use of traditionally designed calabashes for serving local drinks will further enhance the experience.
The introduction of Ghanaian cuisine on Goldstar Air flights will also serve as a gateway to culinary tourism. Passengers who enjoy the in-flight meals will be inspired to visit Ghana and explore its rich culinary landscape. This interest in Ghanaian food will contribute to increased tourist arrivals and boost agribusiness, reflecting on the overall economy growth.
Goldstar Air will also organize cultural exchange programs for chefs and host free Ghanaian food-tasting events at Ghanaian embassies worldwide. These initiatives will include cooking demonstrations, cultural presentations, showcasing Ghanaian cuisine to international diplomats and communities.
Additionally, Goldstar Air will encourage all five-star hotels and bed & breakfast establishments in Ghana to incorporate Ghanaian cuisine into their menus. This effort will encourage international hotels to follow suit, promoting Ghanaian hospitality globally and supporting the farmers. This initiative will create a global footprint and aligns with the airline’s mission to create over two million direct and indirect job opportunities for Ghanaians.
Goldstar Air will champion regenerative farming practices that nourish the soil, conserve water, and minimize pollution. By advocating for techniques like crop rotation, cover cropping, and precision agriculture. It will leave the land in better condition for future generations. The airline will also collaborate with farmers to participate in international trade fairs and exhibitions to showcase Ghanaian agricultural products and attract foreign buyers.
Mr. Bannerman emphasized that fresh organic foods and vegetables are becoming increasingly popular year-round, and the demand for air transportation of perishable goods is rising. Goldstar Air will have a shorter travel time from Ghana, the center of the world to most international destinations. With controlled temperature logistics, Ghana will become the preferred country for transporting perishable goods by air.
Goldstar Air will showcase Ghana’s rich agricultural heritage with our onboard beverage selection, featuring refreshing coconut water and an array of indigenous organic fruit juices. This innovative approach will promote Ghana’s fruit juice and beverage industry globally, unlocking new opportunities for agribusiness and economic growth .
According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), air cargo is a key driver towards the achievement of the United Nations Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Air cargo plays a critical role in trade facilitation, particularly for: Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), and Least Developed Countries (LDCs), offering the opportunity to link remote markets and to connect them across continents as well as to the global supply chain.
Goldstar Air will implement training programs to educate farmers on best practices for post-harvest handling and packaging for air transport. Specific steps and regulations apply when shipping perishable goods by air. It is essential to determine whether the cargo is acceptable, properly marked, and labeled, and if it meets prescribed conditions. Additionally, both shippers and carriers must fulfill their respective responsibilities in compliance with industry standards.
There is a wide array of perishable goods, each with different rates of deterioration. Appropriate packaging and handling are crucial to the perishable goods being delivered in good condition. The packaging must facilitate both the integrity of the goods as well as the handling and storage of the goods. The packaging must meet food safety regulations and meet food-grade standards while still being durable enough to withstand temperature changes and stacking.
The air transport industry’s most important economic contribution is through its impact on the performance of other industries and as a facilitator of their growth. It affects the performance of the world economy, improving the efficiency of other industries across the whole spectrum of economic activity, referred to as catalytic or “spin-off” benefits.
Goldstar Air will facilitate global trade, enabling the country to access international markets, globalize production, and specialize in areas of comparative advantage. By resetting Ghana’s agricultural sector, the country can tap into new markets, with Goldstar Air serving as the primary facilitator.
Air transport enhances productivity across the global economy by expanding market access for businesses. Improved transport links allow companies to operate on a larger scale, enabling them to take advantage of economies of scale, reduce costs, and specialize in areas of comparative advantage. By opening markets, air services increase competition, driving businesses to become more efficient and innovative.
Air transport also improves supply chain efficiency, as many industries rely on fast and reliable air freight to support just-in-time delivery systems. This enables businesses to deliver products quickly, minimize storage costs, and enhance customer satisfaction. Additionally, strong air transport links attract foreign and domestic investments, influencing where international companies choose to establish operations.
Goldstar Air aims to reset Ghana’s agriculture to 24-hour service to enhance agric cargo movement across the continent under the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) initiative. Each year, over 52 billion tonnes of cargo are transported by air, sustaining a high demand for industry jobs. The airline is projecting operating over 100 aircraft and creating sustainable employment opportunities for Ghanaians while facilitating trade among Africa’s 44 million Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). To support this vision, the airline has introduced Afrik Allianz, a multi-modal, single air transportation alliance that connects Africa with the rest of the world to create a larger market for agribusiness.
Regional operations expansion will make Volta Regional capital Ho, the 24-hour Industrial Zone will be an economic driver for agribusiness in the region. Additionally, Hajj and charter flights to and from Saudi Arabia will also expand agric business opportunities in Volta.

The gang attacked a team embarking on an anti-galamsey operation in the Offinso Forest belt
A member of the Rapid Response Unit of the Ghana Forestry Commission is battling for his life after being attacked by a gang of armed illegal miners.
According to journalist Erastus Asare Donkor, the attack, in the form of an ambush, occurred in the Offin Shelterbelt Forest Reserve on Sunday, March 23, 2025, when the team was embarking on an anti-galamsey operation.
“These armed illegal miners just ambushed and attacked members of the Forestry Commission’s Rapid Response Team, wounding one critically. A member of the Forestry Commission’s Rapid Response Team is struggling for his life after being slashed in the knee with a machete by armed illegal miners in the Offin Shelterbelt Forest Reserve.
“The team was ambushed by the miners carrying assault rifles and machetes. The officer, who is yet to be identified, is in critical condition at KATH. Before they entered the area, the team took pictures of these armed thugs, but upon entry, they realized a number of them had laid an ambush,” he wrote.
Pictures shared by the journalist show some of the illegal miners wielding weapons such as machetes and assault rifles.
The attack comes amid growing concerns over the proliferation of weapons and heightened security issues in the fight against illegal mining.
In recent years, the proliferation of weapons in galamsey areas has escalated, with miners using firearms—ranging from locally made guns to sophisticated rifles—to protect their operations from law enforcement and rival groups.
This trend, linked to weak regulations and the involvement of armed foreign and local actors, poses a growing threat to public safety and national security.
The Acting Executive Secretary of the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA), Dr. Adam Bonaa, recently highlighted disarmament as the most effective means to end the security issues in areas plagued by illegal mining, chieftaincy disputes, and ‘landguardism’.
Dr. Bonaa argued that removing weapons from these hotspots would drastically reduce the impunity with which perpetrators operate.
“If you take away guns and bullets from galamsey sites, Bawku, and areas of landguardism, these bad activities will come to an end. Because they wield these weapons, they have no fear of taking your land away from you,” he said.

Renowned Nollywood actress has spoken candidly about her marital struggles, revealing the emotional and physical challenges she faced while trying to conceive, as well as the pain inflicted by her husband’s behavior.
She explained that after getting married in 1988, she experienced a miscarriage soon after the wedding and then endured years of infertility. After seeking medical help, doctors recommended surgery, assuring her it would improve her chances of conceiving.
However, instead of standing by her, her husband abandoned her during the crucial three months following the procedure, offering neither financial support nor emotional comfort.
When he eventually returned, she expressed her frustration, only to be met with indifference. He told her she was free to leave if she wasn’t happy. Seeking help, she turned to her mother-in-law, but instead of support, she was asked to pack her things and leave. Her father-in-law, however, showed her compassion.
Although she later reunited with her husband and moved back into their home, their relationship had deteriorated.
She recalled how he would place pillows between them in bed, preventing any intimacy, which was especially painful because she was hoping to conceive after her surgery.
Eventually, the emotional toll became too much to bear, and she decided to leave.
“After returning to my husband’s house, nothing was the same,” she said. “Whenever I wanted to get intimate to conceive, he would build a pillow barrier between us. I was heartbroken. I couldn’t take it anymore and left. Just weeks after I moved out, I discovered another woman had moved in and was pregnant for him. I was shattered and cried endlessly.”
The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari II, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to rename the Yakubu Tali International Airport in Tamale after Naa Gbewaa, the founder of Mole-Dagbon.
He pointed out that the renaming of Tamale International Airport as Yakubu Tali International Airport by the previous government was done without consultation with traditional rulers and relevant stakeholders.
That, the overlord of Dagbon said, created seeming dissatisfaction and tension in the area.
Upon consultations with the Overlord of Mamprugu, Nayiri Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, Regent of Nanung, Nyelinbulgu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, and other traditional rulers, Ya-Na Abukari said they collectively preferred the airport to be named after Naa Gbewaa, the founder of the Mole-Dagbon ethnic group, which symbolised the identity of the people.
“In consultation with the Overlord of Mamprugu and the Regent of Nanung and other stakeholders, we want the airport to be renamed Gbewaa International Airport and not Yakubu Tali,” he stated.
“Naa Gbewaa is our identity and renaming the facility after him will symbolise oneness and also preserve the rich cultural heritage of the people,” the Ya-Na reiterated.
Thank you tour
He made the appeal when President John Dramani Mahama paid a courtesy call on him at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi last Saturday as part of his “Thank You tour”.
The tour is to show appreciation to the people for the overwhelming endorsement in the 2024 general election.
As part of the tour, he addressed the public and party faithful at the Tamale Jubilee Park to thank and reassure them of his resolve to deliver on his campaign promises.

The Ya-Na Abukari also urged the government to work on phase three of the Yakubu Tali International Airport project, which had stalled since the completion of phase two a few years ago.
Response
Responding to the request of the Overlord, President Mahama gave an assurance that the request would be taken into consideration in consultation with the relevant stakeholders.
He asked the Members of Parliament and Ministers from the region to lay the request before cabinet for deliberation.
Background
While presenting the 2024 State of the Nation address on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, in Parliament, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced the renaming of the Tamale International Airport after the late Tolon Naa, Yakubu Tali.
The late Tolon Naa was an astute traditional ruler, politician, diplomat and a founder member of the Northern People’s Party (NPP).
He said the late Tolon Naa deserved the honour for his years of sacrifice for his people and the nation.
Following the renaming, Ya-Na, many other traditional rulers and a section of the public, raised concerns with the proposed renaming, saying renaming the airport after the late Tolon Naa was contentious and could create needless controversies in Dagbon.
Born in 1916 at Tali, a village near Tolon in Northern Region, he died in 1986 at age 70.
Water crisis
President Mahama also reaffirmed his commitment to resolve the perennial water crisis in Tamale, Yendi and other parts of the Northern Region before the end of his tenure.
He outlined plans to construct the Tamale and Yendi Water Projects which would source raw water from the White Volta and River Oti for production, adding that in the interim, existing water supply systems would be rehabilitated to enhance water supply to the residents.
“At the end of my tenure, Yendi will have enough water to drink. Tamale, too is suffering from perennial water shortages due to its fast-growing population, and we must address this challenge as a matter of urgency,” President Mahama assured the people.
For the past decades, Tamale, Yendi and many parts of the Northern Region have been battling with a perennial water crisis, compelling many residents to rely on untreated water for domestic purposes.
The situation has been attributed to ageing infrastructure and a rapidly growing population that has outpaced the system’s supply capacity.
Established in 1972, the Tamale Water System has only undergone one major expansion in 2008.
To address the situation, then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in July 2020 cut the sod for expansion works on the Tamale and Yendi water projects.
The $223.28 million Tamale water supply facility funded by the UK Export Finance and the Deutsche Bank AG, London Branch, to produce 29.7 million gallons of water per day could, however, not be delivered.
The Yendi Water Supply Project being financed by a $30 million facility from the India Exim Bank, also to produce 15,000 cubic metres of water daily to meet the water demand of the area, could also not start, five years down the line.
Infrastructure challenges
Beyond water supply, President Mahama acknowledged the persistent low-voltage electricity issues affecting the Eastern Corridor, particularly in Yendi, Bimbila and Gushegu and announced plans to establish a new bulk supply point to stabilise power distribution in the area.
Among other projects, he said the government would also complete the remaining sections of the Eastern Corridor Road, particularly around Nkwanta and Kpassa, to improve transportation between the Northern and Greater Accra regions.
The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has asked the management of the Kumasi City Market (Kejetia) to step aside pending investigations into some trader complaints.
According to a report by 3news.com, the directive comes on the back of a petition by trader unions to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, demanding his intervention over allegations of extortion and poor management.
According to the Secretary of the Kumasi City Market Traders Union, Michael Adu Gyamfi, some pertinent issues affecting their operations include unpaid electricity bills, lack of individual meters, and the delayed reconstruction of a fire-damaged section of the market.
“For years, we have been grappling with power cuts by the Electricity Company of Ghana due to debts owed by the facility. As traders, we’ve been paying our bills, yet the market remains in debt. Our calls for individual meters have been ignored. It’s been over a year since part of the market was gutted by fire, but reconstruction has not begun. Management seems unconcerned about our demands,” the secretary is reported to have said when the group met the Regional Minister.
The Regional Coordinating Council, days after receiving the petition, formed an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the operations of the market pending the outcome of the investigations.
“The Regional Coordinating Council has received a number of petitions from traders and other stakeholders concerning the management of the market. The RCC has decided that the current management of Kumasi City Market should step aside to allow for the establishment of an Interim Management Committee. This decision aims to facilitate an investigation into the allegations and verify their authenticity,” a statement signed by the regional minister said.

Salifu broke the deadlock with a composed finish in the 81st-minute
Dreams FC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Young Apostles at the Tuba Astro Turf on Sunday afternoon, thanks to an 81st-minute strike from young forward Abdul Razak Salifu.
The match was evenly contested, with both sides creating opportunities and pushing for the breakthrough. However, it was Dreams FC who showed more determination in the latter stages. 18-year-old Salifu, who had been a constant threat, finally broke the deadlock with a composed finish, sealing all three points for the home side.
This result marks Dreams FC’s third consecutive victory, a significant turnaround for a team that had spent much of the season battling relegation. The three points lift them to ninth place, a major boost in their bid to secure a strong finish to the campaign.
For Young Apostles, the defeat halts their impressive run, denying them a third straight win. Despite a competitive performance, they could not find a way past the resilient Dreams FC defence.
Both teams now turn their focus to their next fixtures. Dreams FC will host Bechem United, looking to extend their winning streak, while Young Apostles face Aduana FC in Dormaa, a notoriously tough venue for visiting teams.
Afua Pokua, widely known as Vim Lady, a prominent media figure, has raised serious concerns about the current condition of Kofi Adomah Wanwani following recent remarks by the Overlord of Dormaa. In his statement, Dormahene (the King of Dormaa) condemned certain individuals whom he accuses of using deceptive tactics to damage the reputation of Dormaa and its people, referring to them as propagandists.
Afua Pokua shared that Kofi Adomah’s health has significantly declined after hearing the Dormahene’s comments, which included claims that his medical issues were part of a propaganda effort. She explained that Kofi has been in intense distress, unable to eat, drink, or sleep, feeling personally attacked by these accusations. She also mentioned that his physical and emotional pain is so severe that his family is now desperately seeking emergency medication to help him cope.
Vim Lady expressed grave concern for Kofi’s mental state, revealing that he has even considered suicide since hearing the statement. She pointed out that Kofi has devoted much of his life to promoting the Bono region, and the allegations of propaganda have deeply affected him. She also questioned how his situation could be viewed as propaganda, given that Kofi has already undergone seven surgeries and is facing an eighth in the near future.
Afua Pokua added that she stayed on the phone with Kofi through the night and morning, offering support during this incredibly difficult time. The situation has become so urgent that Kofi’s family is searching across Tema and Accra for medication to relieve his suffering. If they are unable to find the right treatment, Afua fears his condition could deteriorate further, leading to a crisis.
Her heartfelt message concluded with a plea for Kofi to receive medical treatment abroad as soon as possible, calling the situation painful and tragic.
What Mahama Did To Dampare Before Sacking Him Exposed – Reverend Ntim Drops Details
News Hub Creator21h
His Excellency John Dramani Mahama recently dismissed Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from his role as the Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service. The news sparked widespread discussions online, with social media users and Ghanaians across various platforms sharing their reactions and opinions.
During a radio interview on Peace FM on March 17, 2025, Reverend Ntim Fordjour weighed in on the matter, shedding light on how the President carried out the dismissal. He noted that this is the first time in Ghana’s history a president has treated an outgoing IGP in such a manner.
Reverend Fordjour revealed that after reading the dismissal letter addressed to Dr. Dampare, he was dismayed to find no expression of gratitude from the President. He criticized President Mahama for failing to acknowledge the former IGP’s service, describing it as highly inappropriate.
“This is something I’ve never seen before. I honestly expected the President to show some appreciation in the letter,” Reverend Fordjour said. “It’s truly surprising that not even a single word of gratitude was included. Regardless of how one judges Dr. Dampare’s tenure, he should have been commended in some way before being relieved of his duties.”some way before being relieved of his duties.”
According to Ghanaweb report, Ghanaian journalist Kofi Adomah Nwanwanii is reportedly struggling with suicidal thoughts after remarks made by Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, regarding his condition, according to a Facebook post by fellow journalist Afia Pokuaa, popularly known as Vim Lady.
The emotional distress of Adomah, who has been battling a severe eye injury, was reportedly worsened after Dormaahene described the journalist’s ordeal as “propaganda.” Afia Pokuaa shared that she had been providing emotional support to Adomah over the phone for hours as he grappled with the impact of the comments. She also revealed that his family had to urgently search for emergency medication due to his distress. “Kofi Adomah has become suicidal since last night after hearing you describe his shooting as propaganda,” Afia Pokuaa wrote.
The injury that Adomah sustained on January 15, 2025, occurred while he was covering the Kwafie Festival and Dormaahene’s 25th enstoolment anniversary in Dormaa Ahenkro. Initially, reports suggested the injury resulted from musketry during the festival. However, his wife, Miracle Adomah, later clarified that the journalist had been deliberately shot in the face.
Since the shooting, Adomah has undergone several surgeries, with the most recent taking place in Dubai. An eighth operation is scheduled in the coming weeks. A fundraising campaign was launched by supporters to assist with his medical expenses, underscoring the severity of his condition.
Dormaahene, who had previously remained silent about the incident, recently dismissed the claims surrounding Adomah’s condition, suggesting that the reports were politically motivated. His comments have sparked widespread criticism, with many, including Afia Pokuaa, urging the traditional leader to reconsider his stance and offer an apology to the journalist and his family.
The Monterey Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) will hold its 123rd regular meeting from today Monday, March 24, 2025, to Wednesday, March 26th 2025.
The meeting is to review developments in the economy.
The meeting will conclude with a press conference on Friday, March 28 to announce the decisions of the committee.
Ahead of the meeting, the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, had an engagement with banks in Accra to discuss issues relating to the economy.
During the meeting, the Finance Minister assured banks that the government remains committed to responsible economic management and will not return to the financial instability of 2022.
Speaking at a meeting with over 22 Managing Directors of banks this morning, he emphasized that fiscal discipline and policy coordination will guide the country’s economic recovery.
“We will not be reckless,” Dr. Forson stated. “We recognize the heavy lifting required to restore stability, and we are taking decisive measures to ensure sound financial management.”
The meeting was attended by Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Johnson Asiama, and his deputy. Dr. Asiama welcomed the Minister’s assurances, describing them as a positive signal ahead of his first Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting next week.
As part of this commitment, the Minister announced massive investment cuts and a reset of goods and services expenditure to 2023 levels. The government is also targeting a primary surplus of 1.5%, a crucial step toward stabilizing the economy.
Additionally, he revealed plans to submit a fiscal responsibility rule to Parliament, which will set a debt ceiling that the Ministry of Finance cannot exceed. This, he said, will help prevent excessive borrowing and ensure long-term financial stability.
Also present was Mr. Kwamina Asomaning, President of the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) and CEO of Stanbic Bank Ghana. He commended the Minister for a well-received budget and pledged the banking sector’s support in deepening financial inclusion and strengthening capital markets. He also called for continued dialogue between the government and financial institutions as the country works toward economic recovery.
Dr. Forson’s message was clear: Ghana is committed to responsible fiscal management. The government is focused on stability, collaboration, and prudent financial decisions to avoid repeating past economic challenges.
“We need each other,” he told the bank CEOs. “We want you as partners in our development. We will not be reckless.”
Franklin Cudjoe, president of the policy think tank Imani Africa, has urged the governing National Democratic Congress not to be distracted.
According to him, they need to focus on retrieving the country’s stolen money from persons in the previous government.
He argues that there is a long list of alleged and some easily provable economic crimes under the previous administration.
“An apology was rendered to Dr. Addison the same day the raid took place. Please let us proceed cautiously. We all want accountability, retrieval, and retribution. There is a tall list of alleged and some easily provable economic crimes under the previous government.
The current government must not distract itself from the goal. It must make little or no mistakes. We need our money, even if it takes 5 to 6 years in some of the cases. God give us life for the week ahead. Good night,” he said in a post on social media.
The current government is investigating persons in the previous administration for some financial crimes.
The Attorney General is expected to brief the media on various ongoing investigations and how they are dealing with the document the ORAL Committee presented.
Chelsea hold strong interest in bringing Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior to the Premier League in an ambitious move, according to a report that cites one reason why they think he could be tempted to Stamford Bridge.
Vinicius has been one of the best players in the world over recent years, finishing as the runner-up for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. It’s not too harsh to say Chelsea haven’t matched that level, so a move for a player like the Brazil international would seem ambitious on the surface, even despite their financial power.
And yet, there’s speculation online that Chelsea could be willing to try and persuade Vinicius to join them in a move that could break the world transfer record.
According to TBR Football, Chelsea are ‘huge admirers’ of Vinicius and would be willing to pounce if they got a sense he was available.
They would be walking a tightrope with financial regulations, since a move would cost £200m – matching the world-record fee set by Neymar’s move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 – and they would have to balance the books to fund it.
Furthermore, Chelsea would face competition for Vinicius from the Saudi Pro League, where there’s serious interest in landing the 24-year-old.
However, the Blues think they have an ace up their sleeve that could convince Vinicius to join them. According to the report, moving to London would appeal to the former Flamengo talent.
Whether he would pick Chelsea as his preferred destination remains to be seen, especially given their absence from recent editions of the Champions League. But their location could work in their favour if Vinicius decides it’s time to get out of Madrid.
He has played in the Spanish capital since 2018 and remains under contract with Los Blancos until 2027.
Saudis serious for Vinicius
Sources told TEAMtalk’s Ben Jacobs in February that the Saudi Pro League was prepared to smash the transfer record for Vinicius.
They could test Real Madrid’s resolve with a bid worth €350m (£295m).
But our understanding is that Vinicius has no intention of leaving Madrid just yet and wants a long career at the club.
If the riches on offer from Saudi Arabia might not be enough to tempt him away from the Bernabeu, Chelsea could find it difficult to convince Vinicius too, even if they do play at a more competitive standard.
Chelsea transfer latest
While a move for Vinicius this summer would be incredibly ambitious by Chelsea, they could well have gaps to fill in their attack.
Two of their forwards out on loan – Joao Felix at AC Milan and Raheem Sterling at Arsenal – are expected to be sold, even if not to the clubs they’re currently turning out for.
Chelsea have also reportedly decided to sell Christopher Nkunku after he failed to make the most of his chance to start regularly in the Premier League in Nicolas Jackson’s absence.
There are also rumours that Chelsea could sell Jadon Sancho as soon as they activate their obligation to buy him from Manchester United.
Therefore, there will be a shake-up in the Chelsea attack this summer – but it still seems unlikely that Vinicius would be arriving to fill the void.

Ossai Ovie Success, a media aide to the Governor of Delta State, has slammed Nollywood actress Ini Edo for attending a birthday party in Ghana less than 24 hours after her father’s funeral.
Kemi Filani reported in February that the movie star had announced the death of her father, Elder Edo Jonathan Ekim.
On Friday, the movie star and her siblings laid him to rest in Akwa Ibom, his hometown. Rita Dominic, Ruth Kadiri, Nancy Isime, Lilian Afegbai, Uche Jombo, Real Warri Pikin, Desmond Elliot, and IK Ogbonna attended the burial.
Just a day after his burial, Ini Edo had stormed Accra, Ghana, for the 40th birthday of one of Ghanaian’s billionaire businessmen. Also in attendance at the party were Rita Dominic and Ramsey Nouah.
Videos from the party made rounds online, which left many slamming her.
Joining them, Ossai, via his Facebook page, expressed disappointment in Ini for such a move. He described her action as a wrong way of mourning the dead.
According to him, it isn’t about the financial aspect but about showing respect and spending quality time with her loved ones during the difficult period.
“I am disappointed in Ini Edo for travelling to Ghana for a birthday party just 5 hours after her father’s burial ceremony.
This is the wrong way of mourning.
To me, this is not a suitable way to mourn.
It’s not about the financial aspect but about showing respect and spending quality time with her loved ones during this difficult period.
Ini Edo buried her dad yesterday and was visibly emotional. Less than 24 hours later, she’s already in Ghana attending a birthday party.
Her trip to Ghana for a birthday party is insensitive, disappointed and disrespectful to her family”.
Since her divorce from her ex-husband, Ini Edo has kept her relationship life private.
Ini Edo was once married to Edo businessman, Philip Ehiagwina in 2008, but the marriage hit the rock in 2014. The movie star has since welcomed a child through surrogacy.
In 2023, it was alleged that the movie star was in a relationship with her colleague, IK Ogbonna. Confirming it, Ini had poured out her heart to IK on his birthday, calling him her King and love, she praised him for his unique qualities and prayed for him.
Despite being unmarried, Ini Edo welcomed her first child, a baby girl, through surrogacy. Opening up about it in an interview, she revealed that the eggs belong to her; hence genetically, the baby is her blood. However, Ini failed to disclose the sperm donor stating that her baby’s peace of mind is paramount to her, and expressed how awesome it feels at finally being a mother.
The disturbing trend known as ‘Porta Potty’ parties subjects women to adult acts, coming to light only after a model was reportedly left with a shattered spine – unwilling participants can even be charged with a crime
Some women can apparently make up to $100,000 at the parties
A disturbing trend in Dubai known as ‘Porta Potty’ parties subjects women to sex acts and a model was reportedly left with a shattered spine, but unwilling participants can be even charged with a crime. Adult star Maria Kovalchuk was left for dead at the side of the road after she was allegedly lured into one of these ‘Porta Potty’ parties during which she may have had to perform sex acts involving human faeces.
The 20-year-old Ukrainian vanished after apparently attending a party at a Dubai hotel that she had been invited to by two men who said they were modelling agents.
Ukrainian Telegraf said Kovalchuk told her mother she would stay with the men for the night, but she then missed her flight to Thailand, encouraging her parents to file a missing persons report.

Ten days later on March 19, her brutalised body was found on the roadside, with Russian media reporting that she had a shattered spine and broken limbs that required surgery. Kovalchuk remains in a critical condition and she is unable to speak – but Dubai authorities say she fell from a height on a restricted construction site.
Dubai police released a statement saying: “Dubai Police confirm that the Ukrainian citizen previously reported missing is currently hospitalised, receiving medical care with her family present. A comprehensive investigation has revealed that she sustained serious injuries after entering a restricted construction site alone and falling from a height.”
‘Porta Potty’ parties have become notorious in Dubai, shedding light on the dark underbelly of the city’s luxury influencer scene, and they can pay women up to $30,000 to attend.
These events reportedly involve women performing horrifying sex acts involving bodily fluids like human faeces for money. AOL reported that, for $50,000, some women would have their teeth knocked out, get beaten, get shaved bald, or be hung up by metal hooks.
Apparently, the more attractive and popular a woman, the more they made, with some earning up to $100,000. Russian lawyer Katya Gordon said: “Model Maria Kovalchuk was found dying on the side of the road in the UAE after a party with Arab sheikhs.
‘Porta Potty’ parties have become notorious in Dubai
“The scandal with the Porta Potty parties has been raging…for over a year.”
The lawyer highlighted horrible online videos that purportedly show shields abusing girls, including cutting their hair and subjecting them to other humiliating treatment.
But these parties may have other consequences for its participants – including being charged with adultery.
Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, claims several influencers have been coerced into participating in such acts and there are serious legal consequences.
She warned: “Sex outside marriage has been legalised in Dubai and events organisers have been quick to take advantage of the new ‘relaxed laws’. Women need to be aware that they may face confronting and even dangerous situations, and if there is a married man involved, they can still be charged with adultery.”
These parties may have other consequences for its participants – including being charged with adultery
Kovalchuk’s mother told Ukrainian media: “There is an assumption that she went to a party. But the promoter who organised these parties did not see her. Today, [she] was found in the hospital in serious condition. She has no documents, no phone, nothing. She has undergone three operations. And she cannot speak.”
VoxNews reported that the phrase “Porta Potty” gained notoriety after a Nigerian schoolgirl’s explicit video with wealthy Dubai men went viral.
Kovalchuk had reportedly been travelling with fellow adult model Angelina Doroshenkova, who told Ukrainian media: “We all hope for the best and are very grateful to everyone who took part in the search and helped with information.”
President Mahama Calls for Review of Ghana’s Presidential Term Limits Sparking National Debate
News Hub Creator14h
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has reignited discussions around the country’s constitution, particularly regarding the two-term limit for presidents, which was established in the 1992 constitution. In a recent statement, Mahama suggested that the term limits may need to be revisited, raising questions about whether the existing framework should be revised. He called for a thorough constitutional review, emphasizing that any changes to the term limits should be carefully considered and involve consultations with the public and political stakeholders. Mahama stressed that the main goal should be to ensure that amendments reflect the country’s evolving needs and priorities.
Mahama’s comments come amid increasing debate over presidential term limits in Ghana, with some arguing that the current system may restrict experienced leaders from continuing to serve if they still have the capacity and public support. Many countries, Mahama pointed out, have adjusted their constitutions in response to changing political environments, and he suggested that Ghana should explore similar flexibility. He argued that a system should be in place that allows capable leaders to remain in office if they are still willing and able to serve.
While Mahama’s remarks have sparked significant debate, some political analysts have speculated that his push for a constitutional review could be motivated by personal ambition. Critics have pointed out that the former president’s call for reform could open the door for him to return to office in the future. The current constitution restricts presidents to two four-year terms, a provision that has long been a subject of debate. It remains to be seen whether the government will take action on Mahama’s call, but his comments have certainly reignited conversations about the future of term limits in Ghanaian politics.
Man Exposes Those Behind The Adum BlueLight Market Fire
News Hub Creator1d
A man has come forward with claims that the fire outbreak at the Adum BlueLight Market was caused by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). According to him, the fire was a result of unstable power supply from ECG, which had affected electrical appliances in the area the night before the incident.
In an interview with Ghanaian Blogger Boateng Ameyaw, he explained that on the night before the fire, many shop owners in the market experienced unusual electrical issues. He said that several light bulbs in different shops suddenly burnt out due to irregular power supply. According to him, the voltage kept fluctuating between high and low, causing instability in the electrical system. This situation damaged many electrical appliances in the shops.
The man further stated that he strongly believes the fire outbreak in the morning was a direct result of the unstable electricity supply. He said that the previous night’s power issues had already caused harm, and it was not surprising that a fire broke out the next morning. In his opinion, ECG’s poor management of electricity in the area was responsible for the disaster.
Watch the video below
The fire incident has raised concerns among shop owners and residents, who are now demanding answers about what truly caused the fire. Many are calling for an investigation into the matter to determine whether ECG’s unstable power supply played a role in the fire outbreak.
While ECG has not yet responded to these allegations, the affected shop owners are hoping for a proper investigation to prevent such an incident from happening again. They believe that if the electricity supply had been stable, the fire might not have occurred.
The fire destroyed several shops and properties, leaving business owners counting their losses. Many are now appealing to the government and relevant authorities to take action and support the victims.
The Mahama government has announced the appointment of Dr. Jacob Paarechuga Anankware as the new Deputy Chief Executive (General Service) of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Environmental advocates have welcomed Dr. Anankware’s appointment, describing it as a step in the right direction. However, they have also urged the government to provide the necessary resources and support to enable the EPA to fulfill its mandate effectively.
Real Madrid has seen legends like Zidane, Kroos and Modric grace their midfield.
Some players struggle to meet expectations due to the weight of the Madrid jersey.
One Los Blancos flop claimed to be better than the Zidane, Modric and Kroos in stunning admission.
To play for Real Madrid, you have to be one of two things. Either, you’re one of the very best in your position and are a ready-made star capable of handling the pressure of playing for one of the biggest sides in club football. If not, you have to be a young talent whose potential is undeniable and could become the face of the franchise as you mature and turn into a future superstar.
There are rare instances where both can be the case. A player who still has years before he reaches his peak, already showing signs that he is at the very top of the game, even with room to improve. That is a dream scenario for any club, including Los Blancos. All that has to happen is they must live up to the hype.
That is exactly the sort of pressure that James Rodriguez found himself under when he joined the club following his incredible 2014 World Cup campaign. Unfortunately, history would show that the Colombian did not become all he hoped to be in the Spanish capital. Yet, despite largely being considered a flop, the playmaker still has an incredible amount of confidence in his abilities and even claimed to be better than some of the greatest midfielders who have ever put on the famous white jersey.

Rodriguez Claimed to be Better Than Zinedine Zidane
The Colombian star was full of confidence when discussing how he compared to Madrid greats
During an appearance on Spanish television show El Chiringuito, Rodriguez was asked for his opinion on how he compared to several midfield greats of the 20th century. Styled in a winner stays on format, the 33-year-old was asked who was better between he and former boss and Madrid legend, Zinedine Zidane. His response appeared to even shock the interviewer, who took a moment after the Colombian answered by saying:
“Zidane was very good, at his peak he won the World Cup, but… in their prime? James.”
The questions progressed as Rodriguez was also asked how he compared to both Toni Kroos and Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric, with the former Porto youngster unwavering in his assertions that he was better than both of his former teammates. He continued this trend when asked about World Cup-winning midfielder Xavi but refused to pick himself over the man who scored the winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final, Andres Iniesta.
Despite claiming to be better than all three of Zidane, Kroos, and Modric, Rodriguez did have the humility to admit that the Frenchman was his idol growing up and could understand why his former coach preferred to line up with the other two midfielders in big games instead of himself.
“Zidane has always been my idol. Sometimes he would train with us and he had more quality than us. I had nothing against him, I wasn’t upset as people said, but he found a great team that I didn’t fit into,” the ex-Everton man explained.
“I played with him, but in the important matches he would put Kroos, Casemiro and Modric in.”
Rodriguez’s Real Madrid Career
The attacking midfielder failed to live up to expectations
After his impressive 2014 World Cup display, where he even managed to score one of the greatest goals in the tournament’s history, Rodriguez secured a dream move to the Bernabeu from Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco on a deal believed to be worth £62 million.
Despite the promise and the hefty investment placed on him, injuries and inconsistency marred the Colombian’s development, and he never truly cemented his place as a focal point in the Madrid squad. He wasn’t helped by the fact that the spots out wide were taken up by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, while he was complete enough as a midfielder to dislodge the likes of Modric and Kroos.
In terms of trophies, Rodriguez’s spell in Madrid was at least fruitful as he picked up two Champions League and two La Liga titles. He would also find success during a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich, where game time was slightly easier to come by, but the Colombian did not do enough for the Bavarians to purchase him on a permanent basis. He would eventually swap sunny Spain for Merseyside as he linked up with Carlo Ancelotti at Everton in 2020.
For the eighth consecutive year, Finland has retained its position as the world’s happiest country, according to the 2025 World Happiness Report.
The report, released annually on the United Nations’ International Day of Happiness, ranks nations based on residents’ self-assessed quality of life, using a scale from 0 to 10. This year, Finns rated their lives at an average score of 7.74, maintaining their dominance at the top of the global happiness index.
The Nordic nation was followed by Denmark in second place, Iceland in third, Sweden in fourth, and the Netherlands in fifth. Notably, Costa Rica and Mexico entered the top 10 for the first time, ranking sixth and tenth, respectively. In contrast, the United States dropped to 24th place—its lowest ranking ever—continuing a downward trend that saw it exit the top 20 for the first time last year.
What makes Finland so happy?
Experts attribute Finland’s sustained happiness to factors such as social trust, economic equality, and a strong sense of community. Jan-Emmanuel De Neve, one of the researchers behind the report, emphasized the role of economic equity in Finland’s success.
“In these Nordic Scandinavian countries, a rising tide lifts all boats, so the levels of economic inequality are much less, and that reflects in well-being as well,” De Neve explained. “In Finland, most people will rate themselves as seven or an eight, whereas if you look at the distribution of well-being in the States, there’s a lot of 10s out there, but there’s a lot of ones as well.”
Another key factor contributing to Finland’s top ranking is the nation’s ability to find contentment in simplicity. “They’re content with less,” De Neve noted. “They had less, and they’re more content with less. They’re happier with what they’ve got.”
Social trust and happiness
Beyond economic factors, the report highlighted the strong link between social trust and happiness. Researchers found that believing in the kindness of others significantly boosts both individual and collective well-being. In Finland and other Nordic nations, people are more likely to believe that a lost wallet will be returned, a belief that aligns with real-world behavior.
“The more you believe in the kindness of others, or in other words, are socially trusting, the higher your individual well-being and the higher collective well-being,” De Neve stated.
Costa Rica and Mexico’s entry into the top 10 also supports this finding. Researchers observed that Latin American countries ranked highly in social connectedness, particularly in shared meals with family and friends.
“They do spend time dining and lunching with others, having friends, and it’s not all cannibalized by social media, and so we picked this up in the data,” De Neve added.
Ghana drops in happiness ranking
Ghana’s ranking in the 2025 World Happiness Report has declined, with the country now placed 125th out of 147 nations. This marks a drop from its 120th position (out of 143 countries) in 2024, reflecting worsening happiness levels among Ghanaians.
The decline raises concerns about economic hardships, governance challenges, and overall social well-being. Ghana now ranks below Burkina Faso (120th), Benin (121st), and Somalia (122nd) but remains ahead of Togo (126th) and Liberia (129th).
Happiest Countries in Africa
On the African continent, Mauritius emerged as the happiest country, ranking 78th globally. It was followed by:
South Africa – 95th
Mozambique – 96th
Gabon – 97th
Côte d’Ivoire – 98th
Congo – 100th
Namibia – 103rd
Cameroon – 104th
Nigeria – 105th
Senegal – 107th
Mauritania – 114th
Ghana’s lower ranking suggests that the country faces increasing socio-economic difficulties affecting the overall quality of life. Addressing these challenges through better governance, economic reforms, and strengthened social support systems could improve the nation’s position in future reports.
How is happiness measured?
The World Happiness Report is compiled by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford in partnership with Gallup, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and other institutions. The rankings are based on a three-year average (2022–2024) of survey responses, with key factors including:
✅ GDP per capita ✅ Social support ✅ Healthy life expectancy ✅ Freedom to make life choices ✅ Generosity ✅ Perceptions of corruption
While economic performance remains important, the findings indicate that factors like social cohesion, fairness, and trust play a more significant role in determining happiness.
Global happiness trends
Nordic countries continue to dominate the rankings due to their strong social structures and equitable distribution of wealth. Meanwhile, the U.S. has seen a steady decline, attributed to increasing economic disparity and weakening social trust.
Elsewhere, Israel maintained a spot in the top 10 despite the ongoing war in Gaza, while Costa Rica’s rise to sixth place marks a historic achievement for Latin America.
In Africa, Mauritius remains the leader in happiness, though the region continues to have some of the lowest scores globally. At the bottom of the rankings, Afghanistan remains the world’s least happy country, plagued by conflict, economic hardship, and restrictions on freedoms.
Looking ahead
Happiness remains a universal aspiration, but achieving it requires more than just economic prosperity. The 2025 World Happiness Report underscores the importance of social trust, fairness, and community engagement in fostering well-being.
For Ghana, the drop in ranking serves as a wake-up call. Policymakers must prioritize economic stability, corruption reduction, and social support to reverse the downward trend and improve the happiness of citizens in the coming years.
Tullow Ghana to undertake 16-day maintenance shutdown at Jubilee Field

Business News
Tullow Ghana and its partners have announced a scheduled 16-day maintenance shutdown of the Jubilee oil field, set to commence on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
The planned works aim to enhance production capacity, upgrade operations, and reduce operational risks in the offshore field.
The maintenance exercise will focus on critical repairs and improvements to the Kwame Nkrumah FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) vessel. Key activities will include the retooling of essential equipment, leak tests, and facility upgrades to accommodate increased gas export capacity.
The announcement comes shortly after Tullow Ghana successfully completed a 4D seismic survey on both the Jubilee and TEN fields, a move aimed at identifying future drilling prospects and ensuring long-term resource sustainability.
To mitigate the impact of the shutdown on Ghana’s energy supply, Tullow Ghana has reached an agreement with the government to temporarily source gas from the TEN fields during the maintenance period. This arrangement is expected to ensure an uninterrupted gas supply to power producers and industrial users.
Additionally, the shutdown forms part of long-term efforts to extend the operational life of the FPSO and is a precursor to a mini-drilling campaign scheduled for May 2025.
Speaking on the planned maintenance, Jean-Medard Madama, Managing Director of Tullow Ghana, highlighted the company’s commitment to efficient and responsible resource development.
“This maintenance shutdown is a very important step to protect and maintain our field assets and enhance production efficiency at the Jubilee field. It also reflects our role as lead operator of Ghana’s main oil fields, and our commitment to developing Ghana’s resources in a responsible manner that creates value for all stakeholders,” he stated.
Ghana coach Otto Addo is demanding perfection and focus ahead of their game against Madagascar.
The Barea will host the Black Stars in the Matchday six games of the 2026 World Cup qualifier tonight at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium.
After a resounding 5-0 win against Chad on Friday in Accra, the 49-year-old, speaking ahead of the game, said they must focus on winning the game to enhance their chances of qualifying for the tournament next year.
Addo, however, admitted that it will be a tough clash.
“I think the most important thing is that I know everybody’s excited; everybody was happy about our last win, but we still have a long way to go, and we need everyone to be on their toes,” the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach told the GFA media.
“We don’t need 98 percent; we don’t need 99 percent; we need 100 percent. This is like a small final, and if we win this game, then we are really going to qualify, but it’s going to be very, very tough,” he added.
Kick-off for the game has been scheduled at 19:00 GMT.
Ghana, who sits top in Group I, hopes to maintain its position by winning against Madagascar, as they desire to make their fifth appearance at the global showpiece in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

For days now, the investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and the former NPP MP Kennedy Agyapong have been trending due to a $18 million defamation suit reportedly won by Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Apparently, Kennedy Agyapong’s employee Kweku Annan has broken his silence as he declares war on Anas.
Speaking on his show “The Frontline Ghana”, Kweku Annan claims he will fight and expose Anas Aremeyaw Anas until they both die. According to the journalist Kwaku Annan, he is a clear victim of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ entrapment.
Kwaku Annan claim in the year 2015, a group of chiefs came to him with a a request that he help them get back their lands from Anas Aremeyaw Anas as he was trying to use wrongful means to take away their lands for them.
He contacted Anas Aremeyaw Anas over the complains but he denied being involved in the scandal. To ensure that what the chiefs were accusing Anas of was true, Kwaku Annan claim he went to the site only to realize that all the accusations were true and were far from what he imagine.
According to Kwaku Annan, his attempt to talk to Anas Aremeyaw Anas to put a stop to what he was doing turned out unproductive, thus, he decided to publish a documentary to expose him. Unfortunately, Anas Aremeyaw Anas got to know about the document and set him up.
Kwaku Annan claims a man approached him wanting to sponsor his document. On three occasions, the man gave him money for the sponsorship. Little did he know that the man in question was sent by Anas.
A feew days before the release of his document against Anas, a video of him came out with the narrative that he was corrupt and was receiving bribes.
According to Kweku Annan, Anas has proven beyond doubt that he is not the person he claims to be and he will keep exposing him. Kwaku Annan further dared Anas to take him to court just like he did to Kennedy Agyapong and he will defend himself.

Ghana is home to some of the world’s best arable lands, yet it is the country with one of the biggest food import bills.
Food imports cost the country over $3.5 billion in 2023, according to Statista, a German-based online data portal – draining Ghana’s already strained foreign exchange and further straggling local farmers.
As a nation, we import almost everything edible – from rice to offal, locally called ‘yemuadie,’ as local production continues to suffer largely due to limited policy interventions that can stand the test of time.
These are even though the country has a bubbling young population and worsening unemployment rate. The 2021 Population and Housing Census showed that nearly 40 percent of Ghanaians are aged 15-35 years, the age bracket considered golden, youthful, energetic and smart for national development.
Sadly a 2020 World Bank report shows that 12 percent of the youth are unemployed and more than 50 percent are underemployed.
With many youths idling after fruitless searches for jobs, one would have thought that farming and food production would have become the ‘go to’ or at least ‘makeshift’ occupation or jobs for these youngsters to make ends meet while hoping to land their dreams jobs to build careers.
Unfortunately, this is not the case. As the population increases, Ghana has failed to produce adequate food for its people, creating food insufficiency that is almost a national security challenge, if not for the growing imports.
Past efforts
This is not a new problem. Since independence, Ghana has struggled to produce enough food for its citizens, resulting in various interventions by previous governments to address the bottlenecks, soar up domestic food production and cut down on imports for the economy to breath.
Perhaps, the most popular of them is Colonel (rtd) I.K. Acheampong’s Operation Feed Yourself launched barely a month after he captured power in 1972.
The program aimed to encourage more Ghanaians into farming while energizing traditional farmers to increase production.
To achieve this, the government supported the program with subsidized farm inputs, access to credit facilities and duty-free importation of agricultural machinery. It also recruited extension officers to support farmers apply good agronomy practices to help increase production.
There were also sustained public sensitizations, drawing enthusiasm from Ghanaians for the program and resulting in broad-based participation by the populace.
The results were largely satisfactorily though the fruits could not be sustained beyond the Acheampong regime.
Subsequently, various governments embarked on similar programs with similar intentions.
Planting for Food and Jobs
The most recent government intervention to address the food security challenge is the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative. Introduced in 2017, the program was spearheaded by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture aimed at supporting farmers and other citizens to produce food.
It took different shades, with people interested in raring also supported to increase livestock production. A phase two was also launched in 2023.
Though a great initiative, reports from farmer-based organization, civil society groups and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) showed that the PFJ faced several challenges, leading to limited successes.
Indeed, the country’s sustained and worsening food import bill shows that none of these agricultural programs succeeded as expected. And if they did succeed, today’s food challenges show that the successes and/or the programs have not been sustainable.
This is despite the fact that millions, if not billions of Ghana cedis, from state and donor funds have been poured into these interventions.
In the case of the PFJ for instance, reports showed that almost GHS3 billion have been poured into the phase one (between 2017 and 2023). Additional spending was done on the phase in 2023 and 2024.
Tracking the mistakes
With the scarce national resources being used to fund these programs, everything must be done to ensure that we get adequate and sustainable results from such interventions.
This begs the question what did we get wrong in the previous programs? This is critical given that efforts are underway for the government to intervene in similar fashions to help encourage food production and reduce the import bill.
Key among these is the need to leave agriculture and professionals and experienced people.
Like all professions, agriculture is a specialized area, requiring one with adequate expertise and experience to succeed in it. Policy interventions and programming must, therefore be initiated and led by professionals.
The tendency to allow politics lead the way is dangerous as has been seen in the most recent past.
There are also low hanging fruits that the country must aim to plunk.
I list them below in no order.
1. Rice production
Rice remains a staple food in Ghana, yet domestic production covers only 40 percent of the demand.
By increasing investment in irrigation, mechanized farming, and improved seed varieties, Ghana can significantly boost local rice production.
The National Rice Development Strategy is a step in the right direction, but additional government and private-sector partnerships are needed to enhance processing and reduce post-harvest losses.
2. Poultry business
Ghana imports nearly 95 percent of its poultry meat, amounting to a market value of approximately $400 million every year.
With the right investment in modern poultry farms, feed production, and processing facilities, local production can be scaled up to meet domestic consumption needs.
Encouraging smallholder poultry farmers and providing them with access to financing and technical training will be crucial.
3. Livestock and meat processing
With meat and edible meat offal imports surpassing $210 million in 2023, there is a strong case for expanding the local livestock industry.
Investments in cattle, sheep, and pig farming, along with the development of meat processing plants, will help Ghana reduce its reliance on imported meat.
4. Value-added food processing
Ghana’s food processing industry remains underdeveloped, leading to increased importation of processed foods.
Investing in agro-processing infrastructure can help add value to locally produced crops such as cassava, maize, and soybeans. Supporting food entrepreneurs through incentives and financing will enable them to produce high-quality consumer-oriented food products, reducing imports.
5. Irrigation and water management
One of the major constraints to increased agricultural productivity in Ghana is the lack of irrigation infrastructure. With only 11,000 hectares under irrigation, expanding water management projects will enable farmers to produce crops throughout the year. Implementing modern irrigation techniques such as drip irrigation and solar-powered water pumps can significantly boost agricultural output.
6. Leveraging youthful population
With 67% of Ghana’s population between 15 and 64 years old, there is a large workforce available for agricultural activities. Encouraging youth participation in agribusiness through training programs, financial support, and modern technology can enhance food production. Youth-led agritech startups can also contribute by introducing innovative farming solutions.
Conclusion
Ghana has the potential to transform its agricultural sector by utilizing its vast arable lands, water resources, and youthful workforce.
Reducing agricultural imports will not only save foreign exchange but also create jobs and ensure food security.
As the International Trade Administration said in 2023, by investing in irrigation, mechanization, livestock farming, and agro-processing, Ghana can position itself as a food self-sufficient nation, reducing its reliance on costly imports while boosting economic growth.

Portugal’s Francisco Trincao came off the bench to score twice and Cristiano Ronaldo also netted as they beat Denmark 5-2 after extra time for a 5-3 aggregate win that set up a Nations League semifinal against Germany.
Ronaldo bounced back from missing an early penalty to play a crucial role in his team’s recovery on Sunday, and though he had to watch extra time from the bench, he continued to drive the crowd on as Portugal finally found a way to end Denmark’s resistance.
With the Danes leading the tie 1-0 thanks to Rasmus Hojlund’s goal in Thursday’s first leg in Copenhagen, and fullback Joakim Maehle having left the camp to attend the birth of his child, his replacement, Patrick Dorgu, handed Portugal an early gift, bundling over Ronaldo to concede a penalty in the third minute.
Ronaldo stepped up to take the spot kick himself, but Denmark keeper Kasper Schmeichel won the battle of nerves and got down smartly to his left to deny the Portuguese captain.
Ronaldo almost made amends in the 17th minute, ghosting in at the far post to head a ball from Nuno Mendes at goal but again Schmeichel got the better of him.
Portugal eventually took the lead on the night in the 38th minute, thanks to an own goal from Danish defender Joachim Andersen, who headed a corner won by Ronaldo into his own net.
That goal was cancelled out by a Rasmus Kristensen header from a corner of their own in the 56th minute, and though Ronaldo gave the home side the lead again with a finish from a tight angle, Christian Eriksen put Denmark back in front on aggregate in the 76th minute.
Trincao then took over, scoring in the 86th minute to make it 3-3 on aggregate and force extra time before netting again with a superb clipped finish in the 91st to put his side in the driving seat.
Denmark defended heroically but ran out of steam after Trincao’s second goal, and substitute Goncalo Ramos added the coup de grace with Portugal’s fifth to send them through to the last four.
Portugal’s semifinal opponents, Germany, survived a spirited second-half fightback from Italy, letting a three-goal lead slip to draw 3-3 in Dortmund on Sunday, before reaching the last four 5-4 on aggregate.
The result not only secured Germany a first-ever Nations League semifinal spot, but it means the remainder of the tournament will be held on German soil, in Stuttgart and Munich in June.
Nations League holders Spain reached the final four with a 5-4 win on penalties against the Netherlands, after a thrilling 3-3 quarterfinal second-leg draw on Sunday (5-5 on aggregate).
In sudden death, Donyell Malen missed and Barcelona’s Pedri slotted home to settle a gripping match in which the Netherlands came from behind three times to force the shootout.
France beat Croatia 5-4 in a penalty shootout on Sunday to seal a place in the final four after their quarterfinal tie had ended 2-2 on aggregate.
Les Bleus won 2-0 on the night at Stade de France to wipe out their first-leg deficit, with Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembele scoring their goals in normal time. Dayot Upamecano converted their winning penalty in the shootout to set up a semifinal in June against Spain.

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has insisted that football fans and the entire country must not think about the 2026 World Cup, saying it is too early.
Ghana strengthened their position in Group I with a resounding 5-0 win against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium last Friday in the Matchday five game.
The senior national team will be hosted by Madagascar in Morocco at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium in the Matchday six games on Monday, March 24, 2025.
A win against the Barea will further strengthen the Black Stars’ chances of playing at the Mundial in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
However, Addo, 49, says the team will take it step by step.
“Nobody should be thinking about the World Cup yet. We need to take it step by step. It’s very, very important that we stay focused until the job is done,” he said.
Ghana currently leads Group I with 12 points, with Madagascar close behind on 10.
The four-time African champions are pushing for their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has questioned President John Mahama’s decision to appoint Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan to two high-profile positions.
He raised concerns over the Brigadier General’s simultaneous appointments as Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Commissioner of the Customs Division at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
In a social media post on Sunday, March 23, Ntim Fordjour criticised the move, suggesting that it was politically motivated and lacked due process.

“Few days after JM appointed Stan Dogbe’s bosom friend Brig Gen Ashong Annan as Chief of Staff of Ghana Armed Forces, even before his assumption of duty, same Brig Gen Ashong Annan secures another appointment as Commissioner of Customs at GRA,” he remarked.
He also questioned the officer’s suitability for the role, alleging that Brig. Gen. Annan was the most junior among his peers and was promoted ahead of others for partisan reasons.
The appointment of Brig. Gen. Annan as Commissioner of Customs was announced in an official statement signed by Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
The statement described Brig. Gen. Annan as a distinguished officer with the expertise to reform the Customs Division and assist the GRA in meeting its revenue targets as part of broader economic recovery efforts.
However, the statement did not address concerns regarding his prior appointment as GAF Chief of Staff.
Ntim Fordjour further challenged the transparency of the appointment process, demanding clarity on whether Brig. Gen. Annan’s initial role in the Ghana Armed Forces had been revoked.
“Is JM too confused? Or Stan Dogbe wants to grab multiple juicy positions for his friends to aid easy chop-chop?” he questioned.
“Where is the letter that revoked Brig Gen Ashong Annan’s earlier appointment as CoS in GAF?”

Ghanaian actor Agya Koo has disclosed that he almost became a victim of the notorious occultist, Dr. Sri Yogi Ram Beckley.
Speaking on his Tete Mmofra Online TV podcast, the movie legend shared his near encounter with the dreaded ritualist during his early days as a cobbler roaming and hustling on the streets of Accra.
According to the actor, but for the intervention of an unknown woman, he might have been drawn into an uncertain encounter with the occultist at his infamous Fadama residence.
“Someone called me to come and work for him. I turned around, and upon seeing the house, I had the inclination that there was going to be a lot of money to make, which was natural thinking for cobblers when we are called to work in a big house.
“The person called me to come and went back into the house, and just as I was about to enter, a woman called me from behind, sounding urgent, insisting that I rather come and work on her shoe for her. She pleaded fervently, and I agreed to sort her out before returning to the big house,” he shared.
He said the woman, upon getting close to him, warned him to stay away from the house, which turned out to be the residence of Dr Beckley.
“As soon as I got closer to the woman, she warned me not to go into the house. She repeated herself, to my shock, and pushed some money into my palm and directed me to leave immediately. As soon as I left the place, the owner of the big house, who turned out to be Dr Beckley, was arrested two days later,” he said.
Dr. Sri Yogi Ram Beckley was a Ghanaian medical doctor and occultist who gained infamy in the 1990s and early 2000s for his alleged involvement in ritual killings. Based in Accra, he was widely feared for reportedly kidnapping schoolchildren and women, sacrificing them in occult rituals.
In 1994, police raided his home in Fadama, discovering numerous school uniforms and human skulls, leading an enraged mob to burn down his residence. Despite facing charges, including kidnapping and assault, Beckley was released on bail and later discharged from some cases due to insufficient evidence or legal interventions.
He resurfaced in 2002 in Gbawe, Accra, where he was accused of abducting two teenage girls, tying one to a tree and dragging the other into his home. The missing girl was never found, and his house was again torched by an angry mob. Beckley’s actions instilled widespread fear, with parents hiding their children or escorting them to school armed for protection.

The Friday, March 21, 2025, edition of Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Morning Show witnessed a tense banter between Sam Pyne, former Kumasi Mayor, and the Executive Secretary of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability, Mensah Thompson, over the recent raid at the private residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison.
During the discussion, Mensah Thompson insisted on the former governor facing prosecution for crimes committed during his time in office, claiming he has a dossier on Dr. Addison’s infractions against the law.
However, Sam Pyne, unimpressed by Mensah Thompson’s claim, questioned the capacity in which the civil activist claims to have a dossier on the former governor.
“It is this tangent that introduces populism and hate talk that leads to people’s deaths in our discourse. You are saying you have a dossier—who are you? You, Mensah Thompson, who are you to claim to have a dossier on Addison?” Sam Pyne fumed.
In his defence, Mensah Thompson said his capacity, among other things, emanates from his constitutional rights and his role as a civil activist whose aim is to fight for the national interest.
He insisted that the printing of currency by the Bank of Ghana during Governor Addison’s tenure, without proper recourse to constitutional provisions, among other infractions, forms part of his dossier against the former governor.
“If I take the annual report of the central bank as a Ghanaian and I see that the Bank of Ghana printed money without seeking approval from Parliament as stipulated by the law, how do you question my capacity for raising these allegations against him? He has breached the law, and you don’t need gunmen to go to his home,” he stated.
On March 19, 2025, the residence of Dr. Ernest Addison, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, in Roman Ridge, Accra, was raided by approximately 20 armed National Security operatives led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat. The early morning operation, which began around 5 a.m., involved heavily armed personnel, some wearing balaclavas and carrying AK-47 rifles.
Reports indicate that the team disabled the CCTV system at the property and demanded that Dr. Addison lead them to “vaults” allegedly containing cash, which he denied possessing. The search, lasting about three hours, was part of an ongoing investigation into suspected financial misconduct and mismanagement during Addison’s tenure, which ended on February 3, 2025.
However, according to Mensah Thompson, the state did not need to raid Dr. Addison’s house, as existing evidence of his mismanagement forms a sufficient basis for his prosecution.
Meanwhile, critics, including members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), have accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of using state security to harass, intimidate, and persecute appointees of the former government.

The appointment of Dr Johnson Asiamah as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) should serve as an inspiration for professionals in the banking and financial services sector to aspire to the highest office, Ghana Association of Banks president, Kwamina Asomaning, has said.
Speaking on PM Express Business Edition on Joy News on Thursday, the Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Ghana, lauded the decision to appoint Dr Asiamah, describing it as a progressive move that highlights the importance of internal growth within institutions.
“Well, first of all, we would like to congratulate him again. We’ve congratulated him in person, but I think it’s totally proper that we congratulate him again and wish him a very successful tenure,” Asomaning said.
He stated that Dr. Asiamah’s elevation sends a strong message to the banking industry that hard work, competence, and dedication can lead to the highest leadership positions in the country’s financial space.
“He served as one of the deputy governors, and so it’s quite exciting to see that the central bank has gone for one of its own to rise through the ranks,” Mr Asomaning noted.
“We feel that the signalling to the financial services industry, the signalling to his colleagues at the Central Bank, is a positive one that encourages people to aspire for that high office.”
Beyond the symbolic importance of his appointment, Kwamina Asomaning stressed that banks are looking forward to forging a strong and productive relationship with the new Governor, particularly at a time when the country’s financial sector is navigating major challenges.
“We’re looking for a very close relationship with the Governor. The role that banks play in promoting economic growth cannot be underestimated.
“And considering some of the fiscal challenges that the sovereign is facing, the expectations that the private sector will carry a lot of the load, and banks provide financing to the private sector, principally,” he explained.
According to Kwamina Asomaning, ensuring that Ghana’s banking sector remains strong and resilient is key to driving economic recovery, and collaboration between the central bank and the commercial banking industry will be critical.
“Having vibrant banks, having banks that are set up to promote economic activity, is extremely important, and we do hope for a very strong relationship with the Governor to ensure that we can fulfil our mandate,” he concluded.
Dr. Johnson Asiamah’s appointment comes at a time when Ghana’s banking industry is working to recover from recent economic shocks, including the impact of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) and inflationary pressures.
Stakeholders are optimistic that his extensive experience within the Bank of Ghana will foster a regulatory environment that balances stability with growth.

The teans shared the spoils at the end of 90 minutes
Vision FC were held at home by Nations FC to a goalless draw on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
Both teams had their sights on returning to winning ways, but their match at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex failed to produce any goals in either half.
The spoils were shared at full time, which leaves the hosts in 13th position on the league standings with 25 points. They are now winless in four consecutive games.
Nations sit in sixth position with 36 points, six behind league-leading Asante Kotoko.
Vision will host the defending champions, Samartex, for their next league game while Nation makes a short trip to the capital to play Hearts of Oak.
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has highlighted the urgent need for the Ghana Police Service to establish a dedicated 24-hour policing unit to support the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.
According to the Minister, ensuring security and stability for industries, businesses, and organisations operating around the clock is crucial for the successful implementation of the policy.
Speaking at a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Police Service, Mr. Muntaka Mubarak emphasized the indispensable role of law enforcement in making the initiative effective.
He stressed that businesses adopting the 24-hour economy model will require robust security measures to protect their operations, employees, and assets.
Without adequate security, he warned, the effectiveness of the initiative could be compromised.
“The aim of this Secretariat is to implement a robust and sustainable policing model that ensures security is guaranteed in both urban and rural areas. Activities do not cease, and neither can our vigilance.
“We are laying the groundwork for a system that is dynamic and responsive to the unique challenges posed by the 24-hour economy. As we embrace this new approach, the safety of businesses, citizens, and workers will be prioritised to ensure that every hour of the day is protected,” he stated.
The 24-hour economy initiative is a strategic policy aimed at maximizing economic productivity by encouraging businesses to operate beyond traditional working hours.
The policy is expected to boost employment, increase revenue generation, and improve service delivery across various sectors.
It particularly targets industries such as manufacturing, transportation, retail, healthcare, hospitality, and financial services, which can benefit from round-the-clock operations.

The Bank of Ghana’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will commence its 123rd meeting today to assess economic conditions and implement measures to maintain financial stability.
This three-day meeting, the first under newly appointed Governor Dr. Johnson Asiamah, will conclude with a key policy announcement on Friday, March 28, 2024.
The MPC last held the policy rate at 27% in January 2025, citing persistent inflationary pressures. However, the Central Bank now faces a more complex decision, as inflation remains high, and debt concerns persist among other economic issues.
For over two years, inflation has hovered in the low twenties, recording 23.2% in 2023 and 23.8% in 2024, with the latest rate standing at 23.1% as of February 2025. Meanwhile, Treasury bill rates have been steadily declining, raising concerns about liquidity management and investor confidence in government securities.
With the government targeting an end-of-year inflation rate of 11.9% and a 4.4% overall real GDP growth target, businesses, investors, and economic analysts are eager for signals on potential interest rate adjustments and other monetary policy interventions that could shape the economic landscape.
As the committee deliberates, the key question remains: Will the Bank of Ghana maintain its cautious stance in the face of underlying inflationary pressures and global economic uncertainties, or will it pivot towards policies that support economic growth amid ongoing financial pressures?
Ghanaian artist King Jerry has publicly expressed his disappointment over being snubbed from what many are calling the biggest event of 2025 — Richard Nii-Armah Quaye’s lavish birthday celebration in Accra.
The extravagant event, which has dominated headlines and social media discussions, saw a host of A-list celebrities from Ghana and Nigeria, including Diamond Platnumz, Ramsey Nouah, Ini Edo, and event host Joselyn Dumas in attendance.
Reports indicate that these stars received substantial payments simply for their attendance.
King Jerry did not hold back his frustration in a video making rounds online.
“Nii Armah Quaye, why?
“Why was I not invited?” he questioned, visibly displeased. He expressed shock over being left out, emphasising his personal connection with the Ghanaian billionaire.
“I have a whole collection of songs ready to entertain any audience. This was the perfect opportunity, yet I was overlooked,” he lamented.
While the reason for his exclusion remains unknown, his remarks have sparked a debate about the criteria used to select performers and attendees for the high-profile event.
Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Seidu Agongo has warned that excessive comfort in childhood can hinder success, arguing that hardship is the key ingredient in shaping responsible and resilient individuals.
Speaking in an interview with TV XYZ on Thursday, 13 March, Mr. Agongo criticised modern parenting, saying that many children today are being pampered to the point where they cannot think critically and solve problems.
“My problem with today’s upbringing is that we pamper our kids too much. Sometimes we make it look as if we are going to be there for the kids forever,” he said. “What brings success is the hardship that we go through. Only when you go through hardship can you think as a human, flourish, and become your true self.”
The businessman shared insights from his own life, highlighting how his early experiences helped shape his success.
Despite his father being financially stable, Mr. Agongo did not grow up in a privileged environment; rather, he grew up in Burma Camp with an uncle who was a military officer.
The challenges he faced during his upbringing, he said, instilled in him the resilience and problem-solving skills that led to his achievements today.
The Risks of Soft Upbringing
According to Mr. Agongo, modern parents who shower their children with luxury risk raising people who cannot sustain their family’s wealth and legacy.
He questioned the logic behind giving children expensive choices without them having worked for them.
“You are giving your kids options to choose which car to drive, which school to attend, what shoes to wear, on money that the kids didn’t make. And your money, no matter how rich you are, you can’t sustain it for up to two generations after you if you don’t train the kids well,” he warned.
He argued that comfort eliminates the need for critical thinking, creativity, and self-reliance. “Pampering doesn’t make the brain think. Just imagine that today everything you want in life, you get it – what do you have to think for? So you don’t think. It’s only when there is difficulty that creativity sets in.”
Discipline Over Luxury
Mr. Agongo stressed that discipline is essential for raising responsible children.
He lamented that many parents lack the strength to instil discipline, fearing that it might make them unpopular.
“Most parents are not strong. They easily give up. At the end of the day, I’m training my child to take over from me one day, and you can’t train a child by pampering them,” he asserted.
He further argued that children must be exposed to life’s challenges to develop problem-solving skills. “You should let them understand difficulties. Once there are difficulties, you think of alternative solutions.”
Decision-Making and Legacy Preservation
Beyond parenting, Mr. Agongo pointed to a broader issue in Ghanaian and African decision-making, where personal relationships and emotions take precedence over merit. He contrasted this with Nigeria, where he claimed business mogul Aliko Dangote’s success is not solely due to family connections but a result of strategic investments based on competence.
“A typical Ghanaian or African leader takes decisions based on attachment – this person is my son, this person is my daughter, this person is my cousin. We don’t make decisions based on the wisdom or knowledge of the person,” he said.
He cautioned that making decisions based on personal relationships rather than merit is a fundamental flaw that affects not only businesses but also governance and family wealth sustainability.
“Until we make decisions based on wisdom and knowledge – that I didn’t even know him from anywhere, but I think this person is worth my support – we’ll go nowhere.”
For Mr. Agongo, the message is clear: success is earned through hardship, and only by instilling resilience in the next generation can parents hope to preserve their legacies.
For the first time this year, the government has fallen short of its Treasury bill target, missing it by GH¢2.8 billion.
Data from the Bank of Ghana (BoG) shows that the government aimed to raise GH¢6.14 billion from short-term instruments but received bids totaling GH¢3.32 billion, representing a 45% undersubscription.
Despite the shortfall, authorities rejected GH¢1.67 billion in bids.
A breakdown of the auction results reveals that out of GH¢3.6 billion tendered for the 91-day Treasury bill, GH¢2.33 billion was accepted. The 182-day bill attracted GH¢741 million in bids, with GH¢574 million accepted. For the 364-day bill, GH¢622 million was tendered, but only GH¢406 million was accepted.
Meanwhile, interest rates on Treasury bills remained stable, ranging between 15% and 18%. The 91-day bill dipped by 15 basis points to 15.73% from last week’s 15.88%. The 182-day bill was unchanged at 16.93%, while the 364-day bill saw an 87-basis point increase to 18.85% from 17.98%.
Market analysts believe the undersubscription was expected, given the gradual decline in bids over the past two weeks. This suggests the market is approaching a yield equilibrium as demand and supply stabilise.
In the next auction, the Treasury aims to raise GH¢5.64 billion.
The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, is expected to brief the media today [Monday, March 24] on ongoing investigations and actions taken under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a social media post.
The briefing follows the submission of the ORAL Committee’s report to President Mahama in February, detailing over 2,000 complaints of suspected corruption.
In response, the President directed Dr. Ayine to launch immediate investigations, emphasizing that Ghana will no longer be a safe haven for corruption.
