Unfortunately for him, investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) suggest these acquisitions were funded through fraudulent financial transactions linked to a $7 million government contract scandal.
The Centre for Economic Research and Policy Analysis (CERPA) has emphasised the need for the government to adopt strategic policy interventions to address pressing economic challenges and ensure long-term stability.
In a statement released on Monday, March 24, CERPA proposed that the government enhance revenue collection mechanisms while ensuring that businesses and households are not unduly burdened.
This approach, CERPA noted, would create a balanced and equitable fiscal environment.
It also stressed the importance of improving public financial management systems to promote transparency and accountability.
This, they argued, would build public trust and ensure efficient use of resources.
The statement highlighted the need for targeted investments in agriculture, industrialisation, and digital transformation. CERPA believes these sectors hold significant potential for driving economic growth and creating employment opportunities.
CERPA urged the government to implement sound macroeconomic policies to tackle inflation and stabilize the currency. These measures, they argued, are critical for maintaining economic confidence and protecting the purchasing power of citizens.

The Speaker’s directive came after the issue was raised on the floor of Parliament by Subin MP, Kofi Obiri Yeboah, who expressed deep concern over the losses suffered by traders and called for urgent government intervention.
“In my interaction with affected traders and eyewitnesses, it was revealed that this fire was allegedly triggered by a power outage, ‘dumsor.’ Power had been out, and the moment electricity was restored, it sparked and ignited the fire. Mr. Speaker, this is most unfortunate considering how far we have come as a nation,” Obiri Yeboah emphasized.
He further appealed to the government and relevant stakeholders, including the international community, to provide support to the affected traders to help them rebuild their livelihoods.

Lawyers representing Kwabena Adu Boahene, former Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, have accused Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine of violating their clients’ rights by publicly declaring them guilty before trial.
The accusation follows a March 24 press conference where Dr. Ayine linked Adu Boahene’s arrest to an alleged $7 million fraud involving a cybersecurity contract.
According to the Attorney General, funds meant for a national cyber defense system to combat digital threats were allegedly diverted into private accounts.
In a strongly worded statement, the legal firm Zoe, Akyea & Co. condemned the Attorney General’s remarks, describing them as a “prejudicial press engagement.” The lawyers argued that his comments amounted to a public conviction while investigations by the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO) were still ongoing.
They stressed that due process must be followed before public scrutiny, stating:
“The power to investigate any Ghanaian for alleged criminal offenses has no party colours.
“It is a painstaking exercise to ensure that the rule of law is observed and that persons with material stakes are not unfairly targeted by those who wield the powers of the State.”
The statement further emphasized the need for impartiality in criminal investigations:
“All professional investigations, and not politically motivated ones, must be devoid of razzmatazz and propaganda. The suspect, who is the subject of the investigation, must first be charged before he is subjected to public trial—so that if he is innocent, he is not destroyed by prejudicial attacks and trial propaganda before his day in court. These considerations must guide our jurisprudence.”
The lawyers maintain that the Attorney General’s comments undermine the principle of fair trial and have the potential to bias public perception against their clients.
She revealed that these details were contained in text messages from the deceased, which they have in their possession.
According to her, the messages indicate that Hussein-Suale believed the revelations made by former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, in his exposé ‘Who Watches the Watchman’ were minor compared to what he could have disclosed about Tiger Eye’s operations.
In one of the messages, she explained, Hussein-Suale suggested that if he had spoken out, his revelations would have surpassed Agyapong’s expose.
He also reportedly lamented that such efforts often go unappreciated.
During an interview on Good Evening Ghana, the spokesperson dismissed claims that the journalist’s murder was linked to the circulation of his images.
She argued that Hussein-Suale was not an undercover journalist and was widely recognized by those he interacted with.
She pointed out that he had previously appeared in a Tiger Eye documentary on the school feeding programme and maintained an active Facebook profile featuring photos of himself, his wife, and children.
She questioned the narrative that his killing resulted from leaked photographs, emphasizing that there was already public access to his images.
She also criticized the imprisonment of an individual based on allegations of sharing pictures, calling it a severe injustice.
The spokesperson further stated that Amakye had consistently cooperated with authorities over the past six years regarding the case and was not evading justice.
She insisted that he had remained in Ghana, carrying on with his regular activities, supporting his family, and assisting vulnerable individuals.
A member of the suspect’s legal team alleged that Hussein-Suale had fallen out with his boss at Tiger Eye, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, before his death. She claimed that their conversations and messages contained several complaints against Anas.
She also suggested that Amakye’s former partner, with whom he had a strained relationship, had been in contact with Anas.
According to her, this woman alleged that Anas had once stated he would take action against Hussein-Suale, implying unresolved tensions between them.
Amakye has since been remanded by the Madina Magistrates’ Court on a provisional murder charge in connection with the journalist’s assassination, a case that has remained unresolved for years and raised concerns over the safety of journalists in Ghana.
Koranteng is the first suspect to be arrested in relation to the killing and could provide critical information about those responsible.
Ahmed Hussein-Suale was shot and killed near his home in Madina on January 16, 2019.
As a member of Tiger Eye PI, he had collaborated with the BBC on an investigative report that exposed corruption in African football, which is believed to have made him a target.
His murder attracted global attention, highlighting the dangers faced by investigative journalists in Ghana.
Koranteng’s arrest follows an extensive investigation led by the FBI in collaboration with local law enforcement.
The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested Nii Baah Afful, the man seen in a viral video assaulting a young woman who was carrying a baby.
The video, which drew widespread condemnation from the public, depicted the suspect violently attacking the woman, sparking calls for swift action.
Advocacy groups and concerned citizens have urged law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
A statement from the police confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
Authorities have assured that he will be put before the court to face justice.

With London’s Heathrow Airport shut Friday, global air travel is expected to be disrupted for days, potentially costing the airline industry hundreds of millions of dollars.
The chaos in air travel caused by a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport could last days, according to aviation experts. Heathrow’s closure is expected to affect more than 1,300 flights in the coming days, and airline analytics firm Cirium estimated that “upwards of 145,000” passengers could be affected.
Shukor Yusof, founder of Singapore-based Endau Analytics, an advisory firm that focuses on the aviation industry, told CNN the financial losses from the shutdown could be in the “hundreds of millions of pounds.”
The fallout “will cause chaos, undoubtedly, for the weekend and into next week because they have to resolve all those flights that couldn’t come in, all those problems that have piled up because of this shutdown,” he said.
Heathrow was the world’s fourth-busiest airport in 2023, according to the most recent data, with a record-breaking 83.9 million passengers passing through last year.
John Grant, senior analyst at travel data provider OAG, estimates that it will take up to four days for the flight disruptions to fully resolve, he told CNN.
Likewise, Cirium said: “The impact of this incident can cascade over several days as aircraft, crew, passengers are out of place, with limited spare aircraft and seats available to recover passengers.”
Airlines rely on precisely coordinated networks to ensure planes and crews are in the right place at the right time. Now, dozens of carriers must rapidly restructure their operations to reposition aircraft and staff.
Yusof at Endau Analytics said a closure like this could affect entities and people beyond airlines and travelers. It’s a “whole network of people involved” in running the operations of an airport and adjacent areas, ranging from retailers, cargo firms, jet fuel suppliers and surrounding communities that depend on the airport for their livelihoods, he added.
“At the moment, I think that the real focus is how to mitigate the impact of the airport closure on airlines and also on the people who work there,” Yusof explained, as it could take days, or even weeks, for airlines to clear the backlog of passengers.
Shares of airlines operating out of Heathrow tumbled Friday.
British Airways owner International Airlines Group sank as much as 5% early morning local time, before paring losses to trade 2.2% down on the day by mid-afternoon. Compensation for travelers is likely to be the largest immediate cost for the airline, analysts at Jefferies, an investment bank, said in a note.
Shares in Germany’s Lufthansa were down 2.1% by the same time, while Air France-KLM had fallen 2.5%. Shares in Australian airline Qantas closed 2.4% down.
British Airways canceled all short-haul flights to Heathrow Friday but said it had been given clearance by Heathrow Airport “to depart eight of our long-haul flights today from 7pm.”
All customers booked for travel to or from Heathrow between Friday and Sunday will have the option to rebook for free for a later travel date, according to the airline.

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has accused the previous Akufo-Addo administration of engaging in a third-party contract that allegedly diverts revenue from the National Information Technology Agency (NITA).
He claims that although services are operated using NITA’s infrastructure, the generated revenue is funnelled to a third-party firm, leaving a meagre 25 Ghana Cedis in NITA’s account.
Addressing journalists on Monday, March 24 Sam George described the situation as a case of state capture.
“National Information Technology Agency (NITA), for example, has 25 Ghana Cedis, 8 pesewas as its bank balance at the Bank of Ghana. Meanwhile, the agency owes GHC813,486,505.89. This is the ministry we took over,” he lamented.
He further revealed that NITA has a contractual agreement with a third-party vendor, which he has summoned for questioning.
“NITA has a certain contract arrangement with a third-party vendor. I have summoned that third-party vendor to appear before me tomorrow because I do not understand how all the revenue coming to NITA is being redirected. The previous administration signed a contract that diverts all of these funds, giving them to a third party,” he alleged.
He added that despite services running on NITA’s infrastructure, payments meant for the agency are instead directed to a private company.
“The payment for services using NITA’s infrastructure, which I was supposed to approve to a third-party company, was almost four million Ghana Cedis. I have refused to sign it and have referred it to the Attorney General.
“I will not authorise such payments until I understand why NITA is not receiving a dime while a private sector player is using NITA’s infrastructure and earning almost four million Ghana Cedis. Meanwhile, all the debt is sitting on NITA’s books while the revenue goes to the private sector,” he stated.
Describing the situation as a “true definition of state capture,” the Minister vowed to provide a detailed briefing to Parliament on the alleged financial mismanagement within the ministry.
“The ministry is a true definition of state capture. I will come to the house and brief the house extensively on the rot in the ministry.”

A 100-year-old World War II veteran, Warrant Officer 1 (W01) Joseph Ashitey Hammond, has shared his harrowing experiences from the battlefield, offering a firsthand account of the chaos, fear, and resilience that defined his years in service.
In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb TV, he also reflected on the historic February 28, 1948, shooting incident, which marked a turning point in Ghana’s struggle for independence.
Born on May 10, 1925, Hammond served in the British Army during World War II, fighting in battles across India and Burma.
He vividly recalled witnessing the horrors of war, including the deaths of fellow soldiers on the battlefield.
“I have seen many people die around me, screaming in pain before their deaths. The wars I have gone through would surprise you. But if God loves you, He loves you,” he said.
His experiences, he noted, shaped his outlook on life, reinforcing the importance of endurance and faith.
Hammond also spoke about the February 28, 1948, shooting of ex-servicemen in Accra.
The event occurred when former soldiers of the British colonial army, demanding unpaid benefits, were fired upon by colonial police, leading to the deaths of three veterans.
While he did not provide specific details, Hammond’s ability to recall the incident highlights its lasting impact on Ghana’s history.
Reflecting on his century-long life, Hammond credited forgiveness and faith as the keys to his longevity.
“If you want to live long and for God to help and love you, ‘forgiveness’ is the key. Anyone who offends you must be forgiven because mistakes are inevitable; nobody is perfect,” he advised.
He emphasised the importance of seeking God’s forgiveness and extending the same grace to others, stating that this has been his guiding principle throughout life.
Beyond his military service, Hammond played a crucial role in Ghana’s development.
As a civil engineer, he contributed to major infrastructure projects, including Kotoka International Airport and El Wak Stadium.
“I was one of the engineers who built the airport and also the El Wak Stadium. I don’t like to talk about myself, but since you are here as a journalist, I can share everything you need to know,” he recounted.
He also worked as the first store manager of the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel before leaving to join Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana National Construction Company (GNCC).
Following the 1966 coup d’etat that ousted Nkrumah, the company was renamed State Construction, where Hammond continued to serve for 15 years.
Hammond also recounted key moments in Ghana’s fight for independence, including a conversation involving lawyer Ako-Agyei, who advised against a violent struggle and instead suggested Kwame Nkrumah as the leader to guide the country to independence.
“Nkrumah was my teacher at Lincoln University in America,” Hammond revealed, adding that he had witnessed first-hand the leadership qualities that would later define Ghana’s first president.
Having lived through Ghana’s transformation from colonial rule to independence, Hammond remains one of the few surviving voices of that era.
“I am much older than Ghana. I am 100 years old, and Ghana is 68,” he remarked, underscoring his deep connection to the nation’s history.

Traders to receive support for business growth
Global Affairs Canada has pledged CA$20 million to empower women traders in Ghana and five other West African countries through the Making Trade Work for Women in West Africa project.
The Making Trade Work for Women in West Africa project would be implemented in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.
Launched in collaboration with CECI and TradeMark Africa, the five-year initiative aims to support 80,000 traders, 70 per cent of whom are women, by improving their access to markets, financial services, and sustainable trade practices.
The project also seeks to address gender-based barriers at border crossings, which have long hindered women’s participation in regional trade.
Speaking at the launch, the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Myriam Montrat, emphasized that the initiative aligned with Canada’s feminist foreign policy.
“To us, it wasn’t a no-brainer to collaborate with CECI and with TradeMark Africa to ensure the project comes to fruition.
As was mentioned today, Canada is providing CA$20 million so that we can support women traders and ensure that they can prosper. When women thrive, communities thrive, the country thrives, and the whole society and families thrive,” she said.
Madam Montrat explained that while the fund’s disbursement would be managed by CECI and TradeMark Africa, Global Affairs Canada would ensure the money was used effectively to benefit women traders.
A World Bank report highlighted the many obstacles women traders face, including limited access to markets and financial services, harassment at border crossings, and systemic gender-based barriers.
A study along key trade corridors—Tema-Ouagadougou and Abidjan-Lagos—revealed that women comprise 30 to 61 percent of traders, with many reporting negative experiences linked to border and market infrastructure.
“These issues are exacerbated by women’s additional burdens of productive and reproductive roles,” the report noted.
The Making Trade Work for Women in West Africa project includes initiatives such as capacity building where women traders would be trained in financial literacy, business skills, and market access strategies as well as introducing digital tools to enhance trade efficiency.
The project would again champion gender-responsive policies that promote fair trade conditions for women and strengthen the capacity of border officials to protect women traders from harassment and gender-based violence.
Again the initiative would empower the associations and networks of women traders to advocate for their rights in policy-making spaces.
The project aims to increase the number of women traders using sustainable trade practices by 50 per cent and enhance their income levels by 40 per cent. It will also promote knowledge sharing on trade, environmental sustainability, and climate change across Africa and Canada.
Organizers stressed that collaboration among civil society organizations, women’s groups, government ministries, and regional bodies would be key to ensuring a fair and inclusive trading environment.
“This initiative is not just about trade; it is about transforming lives and building stronger economies by investing in the backbone of West Africa’s markets: women traders,” said a representative from CECI.
With this investment, Canada reaffirms its commitment to fostering economic growth and gender equality in the region, offering women traders the opportunity to thrive in a more inclusive and sustainable trade environment.

“I think what the AG did was right in the sense that the office is not pronouncing the accused person guilty. In fact, he is not even an accused person at this point because charges haven’t been proffered against him yet,” he explained.
He stressed the need for transparency in a democratic society, noting that the Attorney General was fulfilling his duty by informing the public.
“In the name of democracy, there has to be transparency, there has to be information flow. That is what the AG is doing,” he stated.
Prof. Appiagyei-Atua also argued that failing to provide updates could have led to public dissatisfaction.
“I am very sure that if he had not done so, the people would still turn against him and say, ‘Why did you arrest this person? We don’t know what has happened to the person,’ and so on,” he added.
Dismissing concerns that the Attorney General’s remarks were inappropriate, he said, “It is not about pronouncing the person guilty before the case actually goes to court, and it is also not embarrassing.”

As part of the project, Danish water treatment company Alumichem, renowned for its sustainable solutions for polluted water bodies, will provide support.
“We’ve worked with Alumichem in the past, alongside local authorities here in Ghana, to build highly efficient and effective water treatment facilities,” Nørring added.
The Danish Ambassador also highlighted contributions from other European Union partners toward establishing lasting water solutions.
“This mission is not Denmark’s alone. We will be bringing other EU member countries on board to join this initiative,” he noted.

The Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah, has called on Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, to publicly disclose the identity of the Member of Parliament who was allegedly paid to suppress media reports on the National Service Authority (NSA) ghost names scandal.
Braimah’s demand follows revelations by Dr. Ayine during an update on the ongoing investigations into the fraudulent payroll scheme.
The Attorney General revealed that former NSA Director General, Osei Assibey Antwi, had paid a sitting MP to prevent media coverage of the scandal, which involved the illegal inclusion of ghost names on the payroll.
He further confirmed that significant progress had been made in exposing corruption within the scheme.
Reacting to the disclosure in a Facebook post, Braimah underscored the need for transparency in the matter, stating:
“We call on the Attorney General (AG) to name the said MP to whom money was given to kill the story. Doing so will be in the interest of transparency and also to protect the reputation of Parliament.”
Former NSA Boss paid MP to kill ‘Ghost Names’ scandal

Accra, March 24, GNA – Kwabena Adu- Boahene, former Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NBC) and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng have been arrested and detained for allegedly diverting state funds.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Dr Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, said the couple diverted state funds following the signing of Government of Ghana contract for the purchase of “Cyber Defense System Software” at a cost of Seven million United States dollars.
According to the Minister of Justice, GHC39,462,480 is with Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng for “no lawful reason and work done.”
Dr Ayine said currently the couple had been admitted to bail in the sim of GHC260 million cedis.
The Attorney General (AG), who termed the said contract as “GOG-ISC Contract,” explained that the signing of the said contract took place on January 30, 2020, between Ghana and an Israeli company called ISC Holdings Limited.
Dr Ayine said on February 6, 2020, Mr Adu- Boahene transferred an initial amount of GHC 27.1 million from the state (National) BNC Operations Account at Fidelity Bank to his private BNC account at UMB Bank.
“Official documentation on the transfer revealed that the amount was for the payment of a ” Cyber Defense System Software” which the National BNC was buying from ISC Holdings in Israel.
Mr Adu- Boahene, in effect, transferred the money from the National BNC to his private company – Private BNC,” the AG said.
Dr Ayine explained that a review of the Bank accounts revealed that once the funds from National BNC landed in the account of Adu- Boahene’s private BNC at UMB, he caused his private BNC to transfer GHC 9, 537,520 to ISC Holdings Limited.
“By the exchange rate at the time, this amount was the Ghana cedi equivalent of $1,750,000.
According to the AG, to justify or facilitate the transfer of $175,000, Mr Adu-Boahene fraudulently attached a copy of GOG-ISC Contract as well as an invoice which he held as an invoice issued by the ISC Holdings Limited on the contract.
Dr Ayine told the media that on March 18,2020, and March 30, 2020, respectively, the suspect (Adu- Boahene) again transferred GHC 21 million from the National BNC Directors Account at Fidelity Bank to Private BNC account at UMB.
“The transfers from the National BNC bank Account brought the total transfer that Mr Adu- Boahene made to his private BNC to GHC 49 million.
Apart from the initial transfer of the $1,750,000 from the Private BNC to ISC Holdings, no further payments were made to ISC Holdings.”
Dr Ayine said a review of the transactions on the private BNCs bank Account revealed that Adu Boahene and his wife began applying the rest of the funds for their personal use, “making transfer to local third parties, making personal investments as well as transfer to unknown persons.”
“Investigations have revealed that so far the Suspect and wife have registered companies which we are tracking.”
The AG said investigations also revealed several movements of money in both local and foreign currencies across multiple companies and the state had alerted some banks of the effects of various transfers.
The AG mentioned that some of the banks as Universal Merchant Bank, Fidelity Bank and Stanbic Bank.
According to him, three banks were to desist from various electronic money transfers and any manager who ignores the directive would be dealt with under the law.
He said the state would come after all those who engaged in acts of criminality as he had the full backing of the President.
Dr Ayine said over 10 assets of Adu-Boahene and wife had so far been identified.
“We are still tracking suspect Kwabena Adu-Boahene’s assets but will conclude in the next few days and file charges against him and other suspects.
We are open to plea bargaining and we will be using some of the suspects as prosecution witnesses.” Dr Ayine said.

The aviation industry is mourning the loss of seasoned test pilot James O’Connell
Spectators have shared their shock and horror as they watched a decorated South African Air Force pilot crash to his death at a local air show, while they recalled his final moments.
James O’Connell died after the plane he was flying crashed during a performance at the West Coast Air Show held in Saldanha, 112 km (70 miles) north of Cape Town, over the weekend.
According to organisers, Mr O’Connell was performing a “routine display” on a retired military aircraft when it “experienced a sudden loss of altitude and entered a steep dive”.
An investigation into the accident is currently underway as tributes pour in for the seasoned former Air Force pilot.
Mr O’Connell’s crash was captured by numerous videos and images which have since been shared widely on social media.
In one, the 68-year-old aircraft, an Impala Mark 1, can be seen flying upside-down before returning to its original position and then nose-diving to the ground.
A huge cloud of smoke and fire can then be seen as it crashes to the ground, while gasps of shock can be heard from the watching crowd.
Air show commentator Brian Emmenis, who was present at the show and provided running commentary on Mr O’Connell’s performance, can then be heard urging the stunned crowd to “stay calm and remain where you are”.
Speaking to the BBC two days after the horrific crash, Mr Emmenis shared his final exchange with the decorated pilot.
Mr Emmenis said he had known Mr O’Connell from the latter’s time as a test pilot at the South African Air Force.
According to him, Mr O’Connell worked at the Air Force for nearly three decades before moving to the Test Flying Academy of South Africa (TFASA), where he worked as chief flight instructor and was head of the test pilot school. The academy confirmed the Impala was one of its display aircraft.
“James O’Connell was an incredible test pilot… a very popular guy [and] a thorough professional but also a great friend and good guy to work with,” he told the BBC on Monday.
Mr Emmenis said the pair spoke about Mr O’Connell’s upcoming performance before he took off.
Mr O’Connell at this point was “in a good frame of mind”, he noted.
“As he taxied past… my words [to him] were: ‘Have a good [display] my friend’ and he [replied]: ‘Thanks’.”
Mr Emmenis later explained in a statement released by West Coast Air Show organisers that Mr O’Connell had gone into a “dirty configuration” – described as a move where the undercarriage is extended – where he turned the aircraft over and “the undercarriage was down”.
“But when he turned, I could see that the aircraft was in a nose-down attitude and that concerned me. I stopped talking and I looked because I thought: ‘Wow, he’s low and diving down to the ground’ and sadly, that’s exactly what happened. And I waited and suddenly saw the flame, I never heard the impact, I was too far away but I saw this huge [flame].”
The seasoned commentator described the shock and devastation felt across the aviation industry at the news of Mr O’Connell’s death.
“South Africa is devastated. In fact, not only South Africa – I’ve been getting calls from all over [the world]. Aviation is a small world and it’s a band of brothers …especially [in] air show flying because usually it’s the best of the best that get chosen to go do these displays.”
While it is too early to speculate on what exactly went wrong, he reasoned that as a “highly qualified test pilot”, Mr O’Connell would not have attempted anything he didn’t think he could manage.
“I don’t think anybody would do a manoeuvre like that if you didn’t know what it’s about,” he said.
Clive Coetzee, organiser of the West Coast Air Show, said that he was “deeply saddened by the event” and spoke of the shocking effect it had, not only on attendees, but other participants.
Among them was a young pilot who was set to do his first show that same day but pulled out when he witnessed Mr O’Connell’s crash.
And while Mr Coetzee only met Mr O’Connell on the day of the fateful accident, he described him as a “funny guy” and “very nice” based on their final chat.
Both men declined to comment on the Impala’s track record, but Mr Emmenis said: “It was kept in immaculate condition and when the test flight school took it, they stripped it down and checked for any faults. So there was nothing wrong with it, it was absolutely perfect.”
The Impala is a retired Air Force aircraft that first took to the skies in 1957.

The Member of Parliament for Bongo, Charles Adongo Bawaduah, has appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), state institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and corporate bodies to assist in rebuilding efforts after a devastating rainstorm struck the area.
The storm caused significant damage, completely ripping off the roofs of eight schools, and severely disrupting teaching and learning.
Speaking to Citi News, the MP stressed the urgency of the situation and called on NADMO and other relevant agencies to act swiftly in restoring the affected schools to ensure students can resume their studies without further delays.
“We are still engaging with the authorities, and they have assured us they will get back to us on the situation. This is extremely urgent, and I urge the government, in particular, to act expeditiously so we can fix this issue,” he stated.
Mr. Bawaduah also noted that his office had already initiated some efforts to support the affected communities but emphasised the need for more assistance.
“I have personally made some contributions to address the situation, but more support is needed. I appeal to individuals, companies, NGOs, and any organisation capable of helping to come forward so we can resolve this issue together,” he added.
Five individuals have been sentenced by the Tamale Circuit Court for various drug-related offences, including the unauthorised sale, possession, and distribution of restricted and narcotic drugs.
The convicts, identified as Iddrisu Fidaws, Alhassan Wumpini, Bassit Iddrisu, Alhassan Adam, and Haruna Mohammed Sadais, were arrested on March 5, 2025, during a police patrol in Tamale.
They were found in possession of tramadol, rohypnol, and cannabis.
The court, after reviewing the evidence and considering the accused persons’ admissions, handed down varying sentences.
Iddrisu Fidaws was convicted on four counts, fined GH₵90,000.00 on two counts (or 15 years imprisonment in default) and GH₵7,200.00 on the other two counts (or 10 years imprisonment in default).
Alhassan Wumpini was convicted on four counts, fined GH₵90,000.00 on two counts (or 10 years imprisonment in default) and GH₵10,800.00 on the other two counts (or 10 years imprisonment in default).
Bassit Iddrisu was convicted on two counts, fined GH₵19,200.00 on each count (or 6 years imprisonment in default).
Alhassan Adam was convicted on three counts, fined GH₵90,000.00 on one count (or 15 years imprisonment in default), GH₵10,800.00 on another count (or 10 years imprisonment in default), and an unspecified fine on the third count.
Haruna Mohammed Sadais was convicted on two counts, fined GH₵99,996.00 on one count (or 17 years imprisonment in default) and GH₵84,000.00 on the other count (or 10 years imprisonment in default).
Following their inability to settle the fines, the convicts have been placed in prison custody.

She made this assertion while contributing to a discussion on the depletion of forest cover due to illicit mining activities on JoyNews Newsfile on March 22, 2025.
Addressing the claim by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources that revoking L.I. 2462 would hinder the EPA’s operations, she stated that the assertion was false.
“The EPA has the mandate to operate irrespective of L.I. 2462. Let’s be absolutely clear; the President was informed and had all this information when he said he would revoke the L.I. He knows the difference between revocation and amendment,” she said.
She accused both the minister and the president of being disingenuous in handling the fight against illegal mining.
“What is the point of growing new trees when you are happily supervising the destruction of our forest reserves? Let’s stop deceiving ourselves. The review of the L.I. is slightly disingenuous. L.I. 2462 is not what gives absolute protection to our forests,” she said.
She also alleged that the government had declassified portions of the Achimota Forest, the last remaining forest in Accra under L.I. 144, lamenting the alarming rate of environmental degradation in the country.
She subsequently demanded that the L.I. be recalled and revoked, pending proper consultations with the Forestry Commission, environmental protection organizations, and all relevant stakeholders.
The Environmental Protection (Mining in Forest Reserves) (Revocation) Instrument, 2024, a new legislative instrument, will revoke the Environmental Protection (Mining in Forest Reserves) Regulations, 2022 (L.I. 2462) and make any form of mining in forest reserves illegal.
However, on March 19, 2025, the minister announced a ban on small-scale mining and justified the revocation of small-scale mining licenses, stressing that they had been granted without due process.
This move aligns with the government’s commitment to fighting illegal mining, including stricter controls on excavator imports, a complete ban on the fabrication and importation of floating mining equipment, and other regulatory measures.
The revocation takes retrospective effect; hence, all licenses for small-scale mining issued after December 7, 2024, are now null and void.

President John Dramani Mahama, acting on the advice of the Armed Forces Council, has promoted five senior officers to the rank of Major General or its equivalent across the Ghana Armed Forces.
The promotions take effect from Monday, March 24, 2025, ahead of the formal handing over by the outgoing administration.
A statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communication, confirmed the appointments, with Major General William Agyapong now serving as the Chief of Defence Staff.
Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu has been named the Chief of Army Staff, while Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing assumes the role of Chief of Naval Staff.
Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong has been appointed Chief of Air Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai will serve as Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The President extended his best wishes to the newly appointed officers, urging them to work with dedication and unity in safeguarding the nation.
“The new Service Chiefs must work loyally and diligently with patriotic courage as a united team cooperating to protect and defend our dear nation, Ghana,” the statement read.
The Minority in Parliament has attributed the recent devastating fire outbreak at Adum in the Central Business District of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to erratic power supply, commonly known as dumsor.
The fire, which ravaged several shops and properties, left nine people injured and caused extensive damage, raising concerns about fire safety and emergency response in the region.
Addressing the issue on the floor of Parliament on Monday, March 24, Member of Parliament for Subin, Kofi Obiri Yeboah urged the government to urgently resolve the ongoing power crisis and called on international organizations to assist affected traders.
“In my interaction with traders and eyewitnesses, it was revealed that this fire was allegedly triggered by dumsor. Power had been out, and the moment electricity was restored, it sparked and triggered the fire. Mr. Speaker, this is most unfortunate, considering how far we have come as a nation.” he urged.
His statement further highlighted the challenges faced by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in responding to the incident.
“Reports indicate that the Fire Service was handicapped in their attempt to salvage the situation due to non-existent fire hydrants at nearby stations and major logistical constraints. The congested nature of the market, coupled with the lack of modern firefighting infrastructure, worsened the situation, making it almost impossible for firefighters to contain the blaze,” he stated
However, the Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, cautioned against jumping to conclusions, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to determine the actual cause of the fire.
“The issue of what caused the fire should be properly investigated,” he stated, adding, “You can speculate on radio, but on this platform, we must rely on facts. If my members also come and claim the fire was deliberately set by someone, it could lead to unnecessary chaos. Our focus should be on providing relief to the affected traders.”
Authorities have yet to officially confirm the cause of the fire, but investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, traders and business owners in the affected area continue to count their losses, calling for immediate government intervention to prevent future occurrences.

Media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has expressed shock at the police’s silence following Kofi Adomah’s eye shooting incident during a festival in Dormaa.
Speaking on the ‘United Showbiz’ on UTV, she questioned why the police has since remained inactive, with no arrests made.
She also questioned why the individual who fired the musket at the festival, leading to Kofi Adomah’s eye being injured, is walking freely despite clear laws on the use of muskets, while the victim (Kofi) is left to suffer.
MC Yaa Yeboah compared this case to other incidents, such as the remand of a man who shot a female chief and the prosecution of actor LilWin after a fatal car crash.
She analysed the events and demanded to know why Kofi Adomah’s case is being treated differently.
“It is so strange that at an event meant to celebrate a festival, someone would take a gun and shoot another person, and they would say it was an accident. What is going on? Is someone holding them back?” she asked.
She further questioned whether the inactivity by the police was due to higher powers preventing them from doing their job, stating, “Why is it that the police are yet to act on a matter where there are clearly laws on musket usage? Did someone tell them not to do anything? What is going on? Is someone holding them back?”
What happened?
On December 21, 2024, broadcaster Kofi Adomah was accidentally shot in both eyes by a musket during a traditional ceremony in Dormaa Ahenkro, requiring emergency treatment in Ghana before being flown to Dubai and later the UK for specialised care.
While some public support poured in through donations, Kofi Adomah and his wife later accused his employer, Angel FM CEO Vincent Opare, and the Dormaa chiefs of neglect.

The Communications Director for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of breaking his campaign promise to revoke Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462, warning that failure to do so will lead to the destruction of Ghana’s forest reserves.
He explained that during the 2024 election campaign, Mahama pledged to repeal L.I. 2462 and impose a total ban on mining in forest reserves.
In a post shared on X on March 24, 2025, Ahiagbah stated, “President John Dramani Mahama’s refusal to revoke L.I. 2462, as he promised, will result in the total destruction of our forest reserves. During the 2024 campaign, Mahama promised to revoke Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462 and ban mining in forest reserves altogether.”
According to Ahiagbah, since assuming office, President Mahama has only proposed a bill to remove the president’s power to approve mining leases, an amendment that, in Ahiagbah’s view, is inadequate.
“However, as president, Mahama has sent a bill to Parliament merely to remove the president’s power to approve mining leases,” he stated.
“Fellow Ghanaians, this amendment will not stop mining in forest reserves; it will effectively reaffirm President Mahama’s support for mining’s devastation of our forests,” he added.
He further questioned why President Mahama, who previously criticized former President Akufo-Addo for allowing the law, is now hesitant to revoke it.
“President Akufo-Addo faced widespread criticism for allowing this law, and President Mahama pledged to revoke it. So, why is Mahama refusing to honor his promise to repeal L.I. 2462?”
Ahiagbah called on Mahama to fulfill his promise and ensure the full repeal of L.I. 2462 to protect Ghana’s forests.
“We need the complete revocation or repeal of L.I. 2462. Therefore, President Mahama must honor his promise to Ghanaians.”

Players of South Sudan stranded at the airport in Libya
The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has reported that its delegation was stranded for three hours at a Libyan airport on Sunday, March 23, 2025, due to the absence of representatives from the Sudanese Football Association, who were expected to oversee their reception.
The Bright Stars are set to face Sudan in Round 6 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. However, since Sudan lacks a standard stadium, they have adopted a venue in Libya for the match.
According to a post by the SSFA on their official X account, Libyan immigration authorities seized the team’s passports, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and unable to proceed with preparations for the crucial fixture.
In response to the incident, the SSFA expressed outrage, emphasizing that the treatment of the players was unacceptable. They also called on FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to hold those responsible accountable.
