‘React in two weeks’ – Supreme Court orders AG in suit over US deportation to Ghana

0

The Supreme Court of Ghana The Supreme Court of Ghana

The Supreme Court of Ghana has reportedly ordered the Office of the Attorney General (AG) to respond to a suit filed against the state over its deal to receive West African deportees from the United States (US).

According to a report by thelawplatform.online, the Supreme Court panel that heard the case, chaired by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, ordered the AG’s office to respond to the application for discoveries and the interlocutory injunction application filed by the Democracy Hub on behalf of the deportees.

The report indicated that the panel, which had Justices Adjei Frimpong, Gaewu, Dzamefe and Ameloboba, after a conference for about five minutes, ruled that the state must react to the suit because of the significant public interest in the case.

The justices went on to order the AG’s office to “react within two weeks to the application for discoveries” filed by lawyers of the Democracy Hub, led by Oliver Barker-Vormawor.

The president of the panel, Justice Pwamang, is reported to have expressed his displeasure over the failure of the Attorney General to be present in court.

The court went on to adjourn the case to November 12, 2025.

Government of Ghana sued over US deportee deal

About the case:

The government of Ghana has reportedly been sued over its deal to receive West African deportees from the United States (US).

According to several reports by major US outlets, including AP News, the government was sued by a Ghanaian human rights group, Democracy Hub, which is representing the latest 14 US migrants deported to Ghana.

The report by AP News indicated that renowned Ghanaian human rights activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who is the lawyer for the 14 deportees, described the government’s move as illegal.

He argued that the deportation of the US migrants to Ghana was unlawful because it lacks the approval of the country’s Parliament.

He, therefore, asked the court to stop the deportation of the US migrants to Ghana.

“His group, Democracy Hub, filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Ghana’s government, alleging that the agreement with Washington is unconstitutional because it wasn’t approved by the Ghanaian Parliament and that it may violate conventions that forbid sending people to countries where they could face persecution,” part of the report read.

Barker-Vormawor is reported to have said that the 14 West African nationals who arrived on Monday, October 13, 2025, bring the total number of US deportees accepted by the government of Ghana to 42.

The report also indicated that Ghana’s Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who also serves as the Spokesperson to the President, has said that the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, will be defending the state in court.

The Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Canada Branch, Samuel Yaw Asirifi, has petitioned the Chairman of the NPP 2026 Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, alleging a fraudulent inclusion of unqualified names in the branch’s voter register for the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries.

In a petition dated September 30, 2025, he raised concerns about the Chairperson’s alleged unilateral actions in registering individuals who are not legitimate members of the NPP Canada Branch.

NPP elders call for decorum in 2028 flagbearer campaign

“I wish to bring your attention to the inclusion of past Chapter Executives and other individuals occupying no Branch positions in the registration of additional delegates for the upcoming NPP Presidential Primaries, orchestrated by the Chairperson of the NPP Canada Branch, executed by the appointed Officer in Charge of Research and Elections directed by the Chairperson to enter the data on the Party’s platform earmarked for this registration exercise,” part of the petition said.

The secretary explained that on September 9, 2025, the Branch Chairperson announced the formation of a four-member committee to compile a list of former branch executives without consulting the elected steering committee.

The petition noted that the committee consisted of individuals openly supporting one presidential aspirant, a matter that was challenged by some executives but not addressed.

Following an emergency executive meeting held on September 13, 2025, the list presented contained 34 names.

After verification, only 14 were found to be legitimate past branch executives who served between 2014 and 2022, and they were unanimously approved.

Flagbearer Race: NPP’s final five slug it out for the top spot

However, the Secretary revealed that 20 other names, identified as past executives of the Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver Chapters, were also added to the register.

These individuals, he said, served before the official establishment of the NPP Canada Branch in 2014 and therefore do not qualify under the current constitutional provisions.

He argued that their inclusion “Contravenes Article 13 (1)(11) of the NPP Constitution and the motion on transitional provisions recently adopted at the National Annual Delegates Conference held in Accra on July 19, 2025.”

The petition further mentioned the addition of two individual, Vanessa Otuo-Acheampong and Mohammed Tofik Issah, listed as Deputy Youth Organisers and Deputy Nasara Coordinator, respectively.

According to the Secretary, these positions do not exist within the branch structure.

“It is therefore fraudulent to see such positions being filled with individuals who have not been appointed to occupy such positions,” he wrote.

The Secretary emphasised that, according to guidelines issued by the NPP’s Director of IT on September 6, 2025, all delegate inclusion forms must be endorsed by both the Branch Chairperson and Secretary before being uploaded to the registration platform.

He confirmed that only 14 forms were duly signed, questioning how the additional names were approved without authorization.

He also disclosed being denied access to the registration portal until September 26, 2025, “After the intervention of our Party General Secretary, Justin Frimpong-Kodua and William Yamoah, Secretary to the Presidential Election Committee.”

“As the Branch Administrator and the Custodian of the Branch Records, it is my considered opinion that there is a deliberate orchestration by some Executives to rig the process by including former Chapter Executives and other illegitimate individuals who do not occupy any current positions in the Branch,” the petition noted.

The NPP Canada Branch Secretary appealed to the Presidential Elections Committee to delete the names of the 20 past chapter executives and the two unrecognized individuals from the voter register.

“I hereby pray your esteemed Presidential Election Committee to resolve this by removing the names of past Chapter Executives as captured in item (4) as well as Vanessa Otuo-Acheampong and Mohammed Tofik Issah in item (9), who have been fraudulently captured as Deputy Youth Organizer and Deputy Nasara Coordinators respectively. This I believe will ensure the compilation of free, fair and credible electoral register for the upcoming NPP Presidential Primaries.”

I go on my knees and pray before a kissing scene

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim‑Effiong Nollywood actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim‑Effiong

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim‑Effiong has revealed that he prays before shooting romantic scenes, saying this spiritual discipline helps him stay grounded in his faith and values.

The former engineer-turned actor described his work as a “form of worship,” adding that his faith, family and focus remain guiding principles on and off set.

“I get all my inspiration from God. I go on my knees and pray before I go to set and kiss. My family is my garden, then my work,” he said.

Etim-Effiong said the prevalence of kissing and intimate scenes in some films is driven by market demand but he challenged filmmakers to explore alternative expressions of affection.

“The fact that I play a lot of romantic roles means I get to have kissing scenes sometimes. But the question should go to the producers, why are they expressing affection only one way? There are other ways to show intimacy,” he said.

At 37 years old, Etim-Effiong says he accepts romantic roles as part of storytelling but insists handling them with purpose and professionalism is key.

“It becomes a purpose to me and that’s why I had the courage to quit engineering, a well-paying job, to go into storytelling. It felt like a calling,” he said.

Alex Animah, the Second-in-Command for the Blue Water Guards in the Wassa Amenfi East District, has issued a firm notice: the unit will not cease its efforts to clamp down on illegal miners responsible for the destruction of land and natural reserves within the district.

Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Animah confirmed that the Guards have conducted several successful swoops, leading to the apprehension of multiple suspected illegal miners.

He detailed their most recent operation, which targeted an illegal mining site along the highway from Tarkwa to Kumasi. This area, he noted, was being mined despite numerous prior warnings.

Animah emphasised the immediate threat these activities pose, referencing a recent accident directly caused by the illegal mining.

“We, therefore, had no option but to conduct a swoop,” he stated. “Through that operation, we arrested four individuals who are now in police custody, while approximately 36 others managed to escape. We successfully seized seven pumping machines, shovels, and other equipment used for the illegal activities.”

Animah, popularly known as “Peace,” underscored that illegal mining remains a significant threat, affirming the Blue Water Guards’ dedication to their core objective. “So far, we have achieved positive outcomes since our deployment in Amenfi East,” he noted.

“Specifically, in the Ankobrah area, we have successfully managed to dislodge several illegal miners.”

The Blue Water River Guard is a key module operating under the Blue Water Initiative.

This initiative is one of the two core pillars the government is deploying to resolve the persistent challenge of illegal mining in water bodies and the resultant environmental degradation. The second pillar is the Tree for Life initiative.

Ghana forward Bernard Tekpetey registered his name on the scoresheet in Ludogorets thrilling encounter with league leaders CSKA 1948 Sofia.

The 28-year-old netted in the tenth minute to level an early strike from the hosts in the match which ended 5-4 in favour of CSKA Sofia.

Mamadou Diallo had opened the scoring for CSKA in the 3rd minute with a composed finish but the Ghana international equalized seven minutes later.

However, the Reds stepped up their gears, restoring the lead through Elias Correa Franco before Brian Sobrero added the third five minutes to half time.

After the break, CSKA extended the advantage after Olivier Verdon scored an own goal, and Branislav Tsonev put the game beyond Ludogorets with his side’s fifth.

Ludogorets produced a stunning fightback in the last ten minutes with Andre Hoffmann scoring an own goal to add to Ivaylo Chochev’s brace.

Chochev had the opportunity to level for the visitors but missed from the spot.

Tekptey has been in fine form for the Green Eagles since returning from a long-term injury.

King Charles heckled over Prince Andrew and Epstein

0

King Charles was heckled by a protester asking him about Prince Andrew’s relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during a visit to a cathedral on Monday.

The man asked how long the King had known about his brother and Epstein, and questioned whether he had asked the police to “cover up” for Andrew.

His protest was met by vocal support for the King, including one woman who told him to “shut up”. There were also loud chants of “three cheers for the King”.

Prince Andrew’s links with Epstein have been under intense scrutiny in recent weeks. The prince, who relinquished his titles earlier this month, has strongly denied any wrongdoing.

Throngs of fans had waited to meet the King, who was visiting Staffordshire for an engagement at Lichfield Cathedral.

In video footage from the event, the single protester said: “How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein? Have you asked the police to cover up for Andrew?

“Should MPs be allowed to debate the royals in the House of Commons?”

The King did not respond to the questions but carried on greeting fans, some of whom chanted “God Save The King”. One fan can be heard asking him for a hug.

Several people outside the cathedral looked visibly annoyed by the protester, with a woman telling him to “go away and leave him alone”.

The scandal over Prince Andrew’s connections to Epstein has been reignited by sexual abuse allegations repeated in Virginia Giuffre’s posthumously published memoir.

In the memoir, Ms Giuffre says she had sex with the prince on three separate occasions, including once with Epstein and “eight other young girls”.

Andrew, who reached a financial settlement with Ms Giuffre in 2022, has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. In 2019, he told BBC Newsnight he did not remember meeting Ms Giuffre “at all” and that they “never had any sort of sexual contact”.

Recently, fresh questions have been asked about how he is able to fund his lifestyle despite not being a working royal.

The revelation that he has only ever paid a token annual rent on his Windsor mansion, Royal Lodge, has intensified the scrutiny over his living arrangements – even though he made large payments up front, including for renovations.

The Liberal Democrats said he should be called in front of MPs to give evidence about his lease of his lodge.

But last Thursday, the government refused to give MPs time to debate the prince’s titles or his home, despite growing pressure for scrutiny.

Buckingham Palace has not commented on whether Prince Andrew might move out of his home – or where he might go.

The 2025 edition is expected to consolidate its legacy as a bridge between generations and a symbol of Ghana’s cultural strength.

‘If Shatta Wale turns to gospel music, thousands will come to Christ’

Perez Musik (L) and Shatta Wale (R) Perez Musik (L) and Shatta Wale (R)

Ghanaian gospel artiste Perez Musik has sparked conversation after stating that dancehall icon Shatta Wale could lead countless people to Christ if he fully commits to gospel music.

In an interview on Hitz FM on October 27, 2025, Perez Musik, commenting on the recently held ShattaFest event, which saw tens of thousands of people fill Independence Square, praised Shatta Wale’s influence and reach.

He expressed excitement over seeing Shatta Wale pray publicly at the event and noted that, should the dancehall artiste decide to switch to gospel, he would win massive souls for Christ due to his anointing.

“I think he has a gift and an anointing that is very different and unique. We need to accept that. Sometimes as Christians, anything that doesn’t look like what we know, we tend to shun it. But God works in different ways; He can choose anybody and use anybody.

“I was excited when I realised it was the Church of Pentecost that actually did the opening for the event. And at one point, I saw a video where Shatta was praying with the people. See, if Shatta declares fully that, you know what, I’m not going to be secular again, I want to be a gospel artist. Do you know how many people that will come to Christ? All for one man,” he said.

Give Shatta Wale a diplomatic passport immediately! – Ablakwa told

Perez Musik also recalled how, years ago, Shatta Wale was among the first Ghanaian musicians to harness social media as a promotional tool and already had a loyal fanbase.

“This is about over 20 years of work that you see, that you saw, about 25 years of work that she saw. I knew Shatta from the background. Do you know Shatta was one of the people to start using it, one of the first artistes to properly use social media in this country? The very first artiste to take advantage of Facebook. He built his community when nobody was watching.

“I used to have boys, back then, when you went to their room, they had a Shatta Wale collection. I’m talking about 10, 15 years ago. I don’t know how he distributes the songs. You can go to their house, and from morning to evening, they’ll be playing Shatta Wale songs back-to-back. No repeats. They’ll be playing the songs back-to-back-to-back. They will sing every song,” he said.

Mahama is not a clearing agent like Akufo-Addo – Beatrice Annan defends gov’t’s integrity

0

Presidential Staffer, Beatrice Annan Presidential Staffer, Beatrice Annan

Presidential Staffer, Beatrice Annan, has strongly refuted claims that President John Dramani Mahama shields corrupt officials, stressing that he is not a “clearing agent” as alleged by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to her, President Mahama is not a leader who tolerates wrongdoing or protects appointees found culpable of corrupt practices.

Speaking on Angel FM in an interview with Sports Obama on Friday morning, she noted that, unlike the previous government, which she said only paid lip service to the fight against illegal mining, the current administration has demonstrated clear commitment and action.

She argued that it was never true that the NPP was committed to ending galamsey, adding that some of its flagship campaigns, such as Agenda 111, largely “existed only on paper.”

Beatrice Annan revealed that the NDC government has already repossessed all nine forest reserves that were taken over by illegal miners under the Akufo-Addo administration.

She added that no government official or appointee under the current regime is permitted to engage in any form of mining, stressing that leadership by example is essential if the illegal mining menace is to be defeated.

She further dismissed suggestions for a state of emergency as a solution to galamsey, stating that such a move is merely populist and does not address the root of the problem.

She also disclosed that the NDC government remains hopeful of revoking the controversial Legislative Instrument (LI) that gave legal cover to certain mining activities by the end of the year.

On matters of public accountability, Beatrice Annan explained that the government has taken concrete steps to halt financial leakages and irregularities captured in the recent ORAL report, insisting that “we have stopped the bleeding in the system in terms of corruption,” and that the government is “not sleeping on issues captured in the ORAL findings.”

Touching on the economy, she revealed that the 24-hour economy policy is already operational in several institutions across the country, demonstrating the practicality and seriousness of the initiative.

She maintained that President Mahama and the NDC administration remain deeply committed to environmental protection, accountability in public office, and responsible governance.

Transport Operators demand arrest, prosecution of former minister Amoako-Atta over road toll suspension

Former Roads and Highways Minister, Kwesi Amoako-Atta Former Roads and Highways Minister, Kwesi Amoako-Atta

The Commercial Transport Operators Association has called for the arrest and prosecution of former Roads and Highways Minister, Kwesi Amoako-Atta.

According to the Acting Chairman of the Association, Asonaba Nana Wiredu, the former Minister’s decision to suspend the collection of road tolls caused a financial loss to the state.

Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Wiredu stated that the former Minister took the decision despite ignoring sound advice.

He explained that at the time, the minister used the E-Levy as an excuse, insisting it would solve the country’s problems, even though many Ghanaians opposed the policy.

Asonaba Nana Wiredu maintained that the road toll was a reliable source of revenue generation, noting that foreign drivers entering the country with heavy loads paid tolls.

However, he said, the suspension of toll collection deprived the nation of a vital revenue stream.

“For instance, a Sprinter bus paid not less than GH¢20 per day, depending on the number of trips made. In a year or two, such a vehicle could pay more than GH¢7,200. When you multiply this by the number of buses that used the toll booths, it means the country lost several millions of Ghana cedis,” he stated.

Ghana Accelerates Implementation of Energy Transition Plan

0

  • Ghana targets carbon neutrality by 2070 under a $550 billion transition plan.
  • Renewables represent less than 2% of the energy mix while fossil fuels exceed 60%.
  • The plan expects to create about 400,000 jobs by 2060.

Ghana advances its path toward carbon neutrality by 2070 under the National Energy Transition Plan (2022–2070). The government aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the national mix. Electricity access reached 86% in 2023.

Authorities accelerate the implementation of the Energy Transition and Investment Plan (ETIP), launched in September 2023 by former President Nana Akufo-Addo during the United Nations General Assembly. Government officials confirmed the progress on Friday, October 24, in reports published by the Ghana News Agency.

The Ministry of Energy developed the plan in partnership with Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL). The initial phase prioritizes electricity, transportation and clean cooking.

The Ministry of Energy, led by Matthew Opoku Prempeh, coordinated regional consultations with private sector players, local governments and civil society. The plan outlines key actions such as rural solar electrification, the use of natural gas as a transition fuel and the phased deployment of electric buses in public transport.

ActionAid Ghana reports that fossil fuels still account for more than 60% of the national energy mix, while renewables contribute less than 2%. Authorities commit to raising the share of clean energy. Prempeh said during the launch in September 2023 that the plan represents “a transformative opportunity to build a low-carbon economy that creates jobs and sustainable industrial growth.”

Ghana aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by 200 million tonnes by 2060 under its Paris Agreement commitments. The country has a solar potential of 35,000 MW, according to the National Energy Transition Framework published in 2023 by the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Commission of Ghana.

The $550 billion plan expects to create around 400,000 jobs by developing local value chains in solar energy, low-carbon hydrogen, clean cooking technologies and electric mobility. The World Bank and SEforALL support these efforts.

Authorities acknowledge that financing remains the main obstacle. They expect most capital to come from private and international investors because public fiscal space remains limited.

The plan also calls for modernization of the national grid and a just transition for workers and communities dependent on fossil fuel industries. Experts cite in a November 2023 GasOutlook analysis the need for clearer tax incentives and more inclusive governance.

Culture is Ghana’s untapped goldmine for investment and global branding – Afenyo-Markin

0

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has made a passionate case for Ghana to use culture and language as strategic tools for attracting investment and strengthening national branding.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on October 27, the Effutu MP argued that promoting Ghanaian languages, traditions, and identity is as critical to economic growth as any fiscal or industrial policy.

His remarks come on the back of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu’s directive to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to strictly enforce the use of mother tongue instruction in all Ghanaian schools — part of new efforts to reform the education sector and promote local languages in teaching and learning.

Afenyo-Markin said he first raised this issue in Parliament in 2018 but lamented that it did not receive the attention it deserved.

“All the international schools in Ghana, we have diplomats coming in, they want to take something away from Ghana. None of the international schools has as part of its teaching curriculum a Ghanaian language,” he said.

He noted that while international schools enjoy academic independence, they should still be encouraged to include Ghanaian culture and language in their systems.

“They have to factor in our culture and say, look, pick a Ghanaian language so that the child would learn,” he said, adding that it would be a source of pride for foreign students who live in Ghana for several years to be able to speak a local language.

According to him, this simple cultural integration could become a powerful branding tool for the country. “It’s how to sell the country. So we should not look at it differently, and I pray that the respected Minister of Tourism will take this up seriously. It’s something that we can do,” he urged.

He explained that investment decisions are not driven solely by policy documents or financial incentives, but also by the way of life of the people, their culture, and their openness to visitors.

“When we say investment, bringing investment to Ghana, it’s not all about just waiting for a policy document and saying, bring your money here.

“People consider all manner of things before they decide that, okay, I’m taking my money to this particular destination,” he said.

He added that the cultural identity of a nation can influence investor confidence and promote goodwill. “It’s the way of life, the people, how they live, and the level of acceptability.

“All those things come to play that encourage people to say, Okay, this is the right investment destination,” he stated.

Afenyo-Markin also reflected on how Ghana is viewed in the region.

“Today, the Ugandan opposition visited me, and the way they were talking about Ghana, I don’t think we Ghanaians even talk about our country the way they see us. They are so happy to say, look, you guys have achieved so much for yourselves, and they are so proud of us,” he said.

He described Ghana as “a heaven within our subregion” and stressed that the country could achieve much more by getting the “little variables that can sell the country” right.

“If we get them right and rally around it, we’ll create jobs through that and create opportunities for our people,” he concluded.

Viewers of The Delay Show were treated to an unexpected moment when Ghanaian Hiplife music legend Reggie Rockstone came face-to-face with his first girlfriend during the taping of the interview.

While sharing stories about his upbringing and the women who shaped his life, Reggie was suddenly interrupted by voices off-camera. The brief pause caught the host, Delay, and Reggie Rockstone by surprise.

Turning to see who had walked in, Reggie was visibly shocked as he exclaimed, “Jesus! Is this Becky?

“She’s one of my first girlfriends,” he exclaimed, smiling.

Viewers then watched as Reggie stood up, walked toward the woman, and embraced her warmly.

“Come here. I know you’re filming this. She’s one of my first girlfriends,” he repeated as the crew looked on.

The veteran musician then gently kissed the back of her hand.

“Becky is the first woman I ever kissed. We both went to the same school. We carried on being friends. I had a crush on another woman, Lina,” he said fondly.

The unexpected reunion added a twist to an already revealing interview, where Reggie had been discussing his childhood, his parents’ separation, and the three women, including former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, who helped raise him.

‘The Keep Your Eyes on the Road’ hitmaker, known affectionately as the Grandpapa of Hiplife, appeared genuinely moved by Becky’s appearance, describing her with the same charm and warmth that have made him one of Ghana’s most beloved cultural icons.

Gov’t considers NCSALW-proposed gun amnesty to control rampant illicit firearms

0

Government has hinted at “a gun amnesty in the coming days or weeks,” which will allow possessors of illegal firearms to hand them over to the authorities without consequences.

The move has been necessitated because government “is deeply concerned about the increasing proliferatior of illicit firearms and the high incidence of gun related violence in the country,” and in view of “a number of policy actions proposed by the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons”.

This was communicated via a National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons statement dated Monday, October 27, 2025, and signed by Dr Adam A.A. Bonaa, Executive Secretary of the commission.

“For some time now, illicit firearms have crept quietly into our homes, markets, streets, social gatherings and traditional celebrations.

“They have turned small quarrels into funerals, land disputes into wars, misunderstandings into gun fights, and traditional celebrations into mourning. These illicit firearms are gradually writing stories of fear, death, crime, sorrow and regret in our societies. It is, therefore, time for our collective action to end these sad stories,” the statement noted.

In June, Ghanaian social media influencer Hayford ‘GH Kobby’ Boateng was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend who was widely known as Philipa Yaa Baby or Shuga. GH Kobby is said to have taken a firearm from his luxury car while they were in Seker, a suburb of Yeji, Pru East District, Bono East Region, intending to fire celebratory shots into the air. When the firearm went off, however, it struck Philipa in her left arm. The incident was widely reported as an accidential shooting.

See the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons statement in its entirety below:

GUN AMNESTY IS COMING

The Government of Ghana and the Minister for the Interior is deeply concerned about the increasing proliferatior of illicit firearms and the high incidence of gun related violence in the country.

To fight this growing canker, the Minister for the Interior is considering a number of policy actions proposed by the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons which includes the declaration of a gun amnesty in the coming days or weeks.

For some time now, illicit firearms have crept quietly into our homes, markets, streets, social gatherings and traditional celebrations. They have turned small quarrels into funerals, land disputes into wars, misunderstandings into gun fights, and traditional celebrations into mourning. These illicit firearms are gradually writing stories of fear, death, crime, sorrow and regret in our societies. It is, therefore, time for our collective action to end these sad stories.

Under the Ileadership of the Hon. Minister for the Interior, and with support from the Ghana Police Service, the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons as well as the allied Security Agencies, the Governmens of Ghana will soon declare a Gun Amnesty Programme for any person in possession of an unregistered or illicit firearm to surrender it without facing arrest, interrogation, or prosecution. No que stions vill be asked, no charges will be pressed during the period; just freedom and peace offered to all,

This w ill be a chance for every citizen in possession of an unregistered or illicit firearm to surrender it, walk free and help make Ghana safer for all. This is not a witch hunt, neither is it focused on prosecution. It is simply about saving lives, preventing tragedy, and giving every Ghanaian the chance to choose peace over violence.

We are, therefore, caling on all Ghanaians who have illicit firearms whether hidden at home, buried on a farm, or kept “just in case” to prepare now. Get ready to hand it in when the time comes. Each weapon surrendered will bes one less instrument of fear, one less threat to our children’s safety, and one more step toward a peaceful Ghana.

When you surrender your gun, you are not giving up power: you are reclaiming peace. You are protecting lives, including your own. You are saying “No” to gun crime, “No to gun violence”, and “Yes” to Ghana,

Talk to your families, talk to your neighbours and tell your ftiends that a Gun Amnesty is coming. Let’s act together when the amnesty is finally declared. Let’s show the world that Ghana chooses peace, freedom, unity and hope over gun violence.

Gun amnesty is coming, so get ready to surrender your firearm to secure your own future!

Former Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew has visited the Black Queens’ camp in Accra as the players continue their boycott of their 2026 WAFCON qualifier second leg against Egypt over unpaid bonuses.

The senior women’s national team has refused to train ahead of Tuesday’s clash at the Accra Sports Stadium, insisting they will not play unless their outstanding bonuses from the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco are paid.

Each player is reportedly owed $9,500 from that campaign, which ended in July.

Ayew arrived at the team’s hotel on Monday, October 27, 2025, to speak directly with the players and appeal for calm.

Kofi Adams shares details of meeting with Black Queens over bonus dispute

In a viral video, the former Ghana captain was seen entering the team hotel while talking to some players in a bid to urge them to stay united and consider honoring the fixture while discussions with authorities continue.

Earlier in the day, GFA president Kurt Okraku and the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, also visited the team to resolve the impasse, but their efforts proved unsuccessful.

By Hafsa Obeng/Munira Akweley Issah

Accra, Oct. 27, GNA – The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, on behalf of the President and Government, Monday led a high-powered delegation to pay a courtesy call on the family of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, to offer their condolences.

Senior government officials, ministers and deputy ministers of state went with the Vice President.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said she received news of the passing of Nana Kunadu while out of the country and deemed it important to join the family to mourn Ghana,’ longest serving First Lady.

“On behalf of His Excellency the President and the entire Government, we are here to express our deepest condolences to the family. We have been well briefed on everything that has transpired and we console the family, especially the children, on the loss of their mother,” she said.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assured the family of government’s continuous support in this difficult time.

“Let us all remain calm so we can give our mother the befitting burial she deserves. We all can attest to the kind of life she lived, and we pray that God grants her eternal rest. Let us also continue the good works she was known for,” she said.

The Vice President explained that the President could have personally led the delegation, but an emergency had taken him outside the country.

“So, he asked that we come and engage with the family on his behalf. When he returns, he will continue from there,” she noted.

Briefing the delegation on the circumstances surrounding the passing of the former First Lady, Oheneba Akwesi Abeyie, the family head, said Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings had been in good health until Thursday morning when she suddenly fell ill.

“She was rushed to the Ridge Hospital, where she, unfortunately, took her last breath,” he said.

Oheneba Prempeh added that the family had officially informed the Presidency of her passing and subsequently held a press conference to announce her death.

“Since then, we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and the caliber of people and groups who have trooped in to express their condolences,” he said.

Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle and daughter of the former First Lady, expressed profound gratitude to the government for its show of support and solidarity.

“On behalf of my family and siblings, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for your love and support today. This came as a shock to all of us, but as we say, God knows best,” she said.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings reflected on her mother’s life and legacy, describing her as a dedicated servant of the nation who lived with dignity and purpose.

“She lived a good, long life and served her country with diligence, dignity, and dedication. The outpouring of love from across the nation, the continent, and the world has been overwhelming. We feel privileged to have been part of her story,” she said.

Many Ghanaians, she noted, had shared personal stories about her mother, highlighting the profound impact she had on their lives.

“As you rightly said, perhaps this is not the place to tell all these stories, but one day Ghana will hear more about the woman she truly was. We are honored by your presence and deeply touched by your words of comfort. May God richly bless you.”

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the widow of former President Jerry John Rawlings, served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001. She was a prominent advocate for women’s empowerment and the founder of the 31stDecember Women’s Movement.

Manifesting God’s Love in Action

0

The essence of Christianity lies not in mere words, ritual observance, or denominational identity, but in the visible and active demonstration of love, kindness, and unity, all rooted in the Fatherhood of God. To be a Christian is to be a living reflection of Christ, who is the embodiment of divine love and the perfect expression of God’s compassion to humanity.

At the heart of the Christian faith is the command to love. Jesus Christ summarised all the law and the prophets into two great commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,” and “Love your neighbour as yourself” (Matthew 22:37–39).

These commandments reveal that love is not an optional virtue but the defining mark of every believer. A Christian must not only speak of love but must live it, in word, in deed, and in spirit.

The Love That Reflects God

The love a Christian is called to manifest is not the fleeting affection of emotion or preference, but the selfless, sacrificial love that mirrors God’s own nature. Scripture tells us plainly: “God is love” (1 John 4:8). If God is love, then anyone who claims to belong to Him must bear that same nature in their daily life.

To preach love, therefore, is to proclaim the very character of God. When Jesus walked among men, His message was inseparable from His actions. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, comforted the broken-hearted, and forgave those who wronged Him (all as expressions of divine love in motion).

In a world increasingly marked by selfishness, division, and hostility, Christians are called to be beacons of this same love. Jesus Himself declared, “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35). Our love for one another is not a private virtue; it is the public evidence of our faith.

The Kindness That Flows From Grace

Kindness is love in practical expression. It is love wearing work clothes, love with hands and feet. The Apostle Paul urged believers to “be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:32). This form of kindness transcends human fairness; it mirrors the grace that God has shown to us in Christ.

True kindness is not measured by the size of a gift but by the spirit in which it is given. A kind word, a patient response, or a small act of mercy can transform another person’s day or even their life. Christians who practice kindness make visible the invisible love of God.

Jesus gave us a striking picture of this in the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37). While religious figures passed by a wounded man, it was the Samaritan, considered an outsider, who stopped to show compassion. Christ concluded with a simple instruction: “Go, and do thou likewise.” To follow Jesus means to live as that Samaritan lived (seeing the needs of others and responding with mercy, not indifference).

The Oneness of All in Christ

Equally vital to the Christian message is the oneness of all believers and the recognition of the universal Fatherhood of God. The Apostle Paul reminds us, “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all” (Ephesians 4:4–6).

This truth calls for the breaking down of every barrier: thus racial, cultural, social, or denominational, that divides the children of God. In Christ, there is no room for prejudice or exclusion.

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28).

The oneness of believers reflects the unity of the Trinity itself – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When Christians walk in harmony, they reveal to the world the nature of the God they serve. Disunity, on the other hand, distorts the image of God and weakens the witness of the Church.

In His final prayer before the cross, Jesus prayed earnestly for this unity: “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me” (John 17:21). The unity of the Church, therefore, is not a mere human ideal. It is the divine strategy for revealing Christ to the world.

The Fatherhood of God

Recognizing the Fatherhood of God transforms how we see ourselves and others. God is not a distant ruler but a loving Father who cares for all His children. Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Our Father which art in heaven” (Matthew 6:9), reminding them that God’s love embraces the entire human family.

If God is the Father of all, then every person we meet is, in a sense, our brother or sister. This awareness should govern our attitudes and actions. It should move us to treat every human being with dignity, compassion, and respect, not because of what they have done, but because of who their Father is.

The Apostle John wrote, “Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God” (1 John 3:1). That divine love does not stop at the boundaries of the Church. It reaches into every corner of the world, calling all to reconciliation and peace.

Living the Message

To preach love, kindness, unity, and the Fatherhood of God is to live the gospel in its fullest sense. Words alone are not enough. Our lives must echo our message. The Christian who forgives when wronged, who shares when others hoard, who prays for those who persecute, and who seeks peace rather than conflict, that Christian is a living sermon.

In a world hungering for hope and healing, the most powerful message the Church can give is not found in eloquent sermons or impressive cathedrals, but in simple acts of love that mirror the heart of Christ. As the Apostle Paul wrote, “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal” (1 Corinthians 13:1).

Love is the proof of faith, the language of heaven, and the power that can renew the world.

Let every Christian, therefore, strive daily to embody that love; to be kind, to seek unity, and to honour the Fatherhood of God. For when love is manifested in our lives, we do more than preach the gospel; we become the gospel in flesh and blood, living witnesses to the truth that “God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:16).

Akosua Serwaa is Daddy Lumba’s only legal wife

0

Akosua Serwaa has been affirmed as Daddy Lumba's only legal wife Akosua Serwaa has been affirmed as Daddy Lumba’s only legal wife

It has emerged that Akosua Serwaa is the only legitimate wife of the late Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

This came up at a meeting where the family secretary disclosed that the Nkosuohene of Asanteman, Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, ruled that Akosua Serwaa remains the only recognised and lawful wife of the late musician.

In a statement dated October 26, 2025, issued on behalf of Akosua Serwaa and the singer’s elder sister, Ernestina Fosu, the family secretary explained that a meeting was held on October 24, 2025, at Asawasehenefie in Kumasi.

The meeting, chaired by Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, was convened to clarify the marital status of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

Both Akosua Serwaa and Priscilla Ofori Atta, also known as Odo Broni, have claimed to be the musician’s spouse.

Akosua Serwaa denies claims that she will perform widowhood rites with Odo Broni

According to the statement, during the meeting, representatives of Odo Broni and the late singer’s family head, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, were asked to present legal documents or any form of evidence to prove a valid marriage between Odo Broni and Daddy Lumba.

However, neither Odo Broni’s lawyer nor the family head could produce any marriage certificate or legal proof to support her claim.

The statement indicated that, based on the lack of evidence, Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie ruled that, in the absence of any legal documentation, the only recognised and lawful widow of the late musician remains Akosua Serwaa.

He added that Akosua Serwaa’s marriage to the late singer was conducted under the Marriage Ordinance and is valid under both Ghanaian and German law.

The statement further said that while the traditional authority’s ruling recognises Akosua Serwaa as the legitimate widow, the final legal determination will come from the Kumasi High Court, where the issue of Daddy Lumba’s marital status is being heard.

“A meeting was held on Friday, 24 October 2025, at Asawasehenefie, chaired by Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, Nkosuohene for Asanteman, where the issue of marital status was raised for clarification. At this meeting, a representative of Ms Priscilla Ofori Atta, who has publicly claimed to be a widow, was asked to produce a marriage certificate or any legal documentation proving her marriage to the late Mr Charles Kwadwo Fosuh.

“Neither Ms Ofori Atta’s lawyer nor Abusuapainin Kofi Owusu could present any evidence or marriage certificate to substantiate her claim. Following this, Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie ruled that, in the absence of any legal proof of marriage, the only recognized and lawful widow remains Mrs Akosua Serwah Fosuh, who was married to the deceased under the Marriage Ordinance and is recognized under both Ghanaian and German law. He, however, noted that since the matter is before the court, the final determination will be made judicially,” the statement read.

Akosua Serwaa filed a lawsuit at the Kumasi High Court on October 2, 2025, against Abusua Panyin Kofi Owusu, Priscilla Ofori, and Transitions Funeral Home (Enterprise Funeral Services).

The case challenges actions that allegedly downplay her legal capacity as the musician’s lawful wife.

Both parties appeared in court on October 17, 2025, but the Kumasi High Court Five, presided over by Dorinda Arthur, adjourned proceedings to October 28, 2025.

The adjournment followed a motion filed by the first defendant, Abusua Panin Kofi Owusu, who challenged Akosua Serwaa’s legal capacity as the widow of the deceased musician.

Three people, including two children, were shot and killed on Sunday, October 27, 2025, during an attack in Sakpari, a community in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

According to a report by graphic.com.gh, the incident also left George Bukari, Manager of Maxx Empire FM, a local radio station in Binduri, injured in the hand.

Recounting the incident, residents said the gunmen invaded Bukari’s family compound and opened fire on those inside.

“George had gone with the children to the bathhouse but returned briefly to pick up his sandals. It was at that moment that the gunmen began shooting, killing his uncle and the two children,” a resident said.

He explained that Bukari narrowly escaped death after a bullet aimed at him struck a cow instead, killing the animal and causing his hand injury.

The deceased were identified as an adult male and two children, one about 14 years old and the other, about five, who was the son of the radio station manager.

Salam added that the assailants, believed to be from a rival community, were two men on foot.

“They were not in any vehicle, and the people nearby could not retaliate because they were unarmed,” he recounted.

The report noted that, in what appeared to be a retaliatory act, a house belonging to the Member of Parliament for Binduri, Issifu Mahmoud, at Aniisim, was torched at dawn on Monday, October 27, 2025.

“This morning, we discovered that the MP’s house had been set ablaze. It may not have been the same people who carried out the shooting, but rather others who were angered by the attack,” Salam explained.

No casualties were recorded in the fire incident, though the property suffered significant damage.

“I came here today to tell my players that I am really proud of every one of them. What they did today was a great effort. They are following my structure 100%. I hope in the next games we will do well. Actually, maybe the problem is me. I have to solve my programs.

“Thank you, and I’m very sorry to the fans for this result. I hope they always come and support us because they are the spirit of this team. Without them, we cannot move forward. I hope our team will bounce back after this game and win again at home. We have to prepare ourselves, solve our problems, and move on,” Fathi said.

A coronation not a contest

0

With no heavyweight opposition candidates cleared to compete in Wednesday’s election, many Tanzanians feel the vote is less like a contest and more like a coronation for President Samia Suluhu Hassan, as she faces her first presidential election.

The 65-year-old became the East African nation’s first female head of state after the death in 2021 of sitting President John Magufuli. He was admired on the one hand for his no-nonsense drive to stamp out corruption but criticised on the other for his authoritarian clampdown on dissent and controversial attitude towards the Covid pandemic.

President Samia, who had been vice-president, seemed like a breath of fresh air – and with her warmer and friendlier style, she initiated reforms that seemed to represent a radical departure from her predecessor’s policies.

Her four Rs policy – “reconciliation, resilience, reform and rebuilding” – reopened Tanzania to foreign investors, restored donor relations and mollified the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank.

“She made a difference, the lost relationship between Tanzania and international organisations such as World Bank was restored,” political analyst Mohammed Issa told the BBC.

But over the last two years or so, the political space has drastically shrunk – and the targeting of government critics and opposition voices is said to be more ruthless now than it ever was under Magufuli, with regular abductions and killings now reported.

“Samia came in with a conciliatory tone, but now she has become bold and makes tough decisions that many did not expect from her,” said Mr Issa.

“She is now widely blamed for some things like abductions, killings, repression of opposition and other issues on security.”

This is reflected in reports by Freedom House, a US-based democracy and human rights advocacy group, which ranked Tanzania as “partly free” in 2020 and “not free” last year.

The government has not commented on the allegations.

Samia’s CCM has won every election since the reintroduction of multi-party democracy in 1992, but the campaigns are usually vibrant with robust debate between the rival parties.

While the electoral commission has cleared 17 presidential candidates to stand this time, the main opposition party, Chadema, is barred with its leader, Tundu Lissu, currently on trial for treason.

He had been calling for electoral reforms before his arrest in April – and the party is now urging its supporters to boycott the poll.

His deputy, John Heche, was also arrested last week – and told the BBC just before his detention that President Samia’s so-called reforms were hollow: “Yes, rallies were allowed again, but today Chadema can’t do its mandate because the promises were fake.”

Meanwhile, presidential hopeful Luhana Mpina, from the second largest opposition party, ACT Wazalendo, has also been disqualified – twice.

He had managed to get his candidacy reinstated by the High Court after he was barred over a procedural issue – but when the Attorney General appealed last month, the electoral commission decided to uphold the disqualification.

This leaves smaller opposition parties like Chaumma and CUF in the race, but in reality there is no chance of them stopping Samia winning her first personal mandate.

“The ruling party’s control, exclusion of the opposition and institutional bias undermine electoral credibility. Limited civic space and low voter engagement further weaken inclusiveness,” said political analyst Nicodemus Minde in a recent report for the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) think-tank.

This has left some would-be voters, like Dar es Salaam resident Godfrey Lusana, despondent.

“We do not have an election without a strong opposition. The electoral system is not independent. We already know who will win. I can’t waste time to vote,” he told the BBC. “If the electoral commission was really independent, I would have voted.”

This is in stark contrast to the buzzing campaign on Tanzania’s semi-autonomous archipelago of Zanzibar – from where President Samia originally hails.

The islanders elect their own regional president and incumbent Hussein Mwinyi of the CCM is seeking another term, but faces stiff competition from ACT-Wazalendo’s Othman Masoud – who has been serving as his deputy in a unity administration.

On the campaign trail on the mainland, President Samia has capitalised on the initial praise she received for her motherly approach – seeking to govern through dialogue rather than decree.

This earned her the nickname “Mama Samia” – and at her rallies she has been promising to bring widespread development through better infrastructure, health and education.

Many women, especially those in rural communities, see her as a stabilising force.

“She brings dignity, we young women look up to her. We feel her presence as the president and that gives us confidence that we can be reliable to our communities now and in the future,” first-time voter Queen Castoric from the northern city of Tanga told the BBC.

But some women in urban areas, like Celina Ponsiana, who will also be casting her ballot for the first time in Dar es Salaam, are more equivocal: “Leadership isn’t only about tone.

“I believe the president has a task to do, first on unemployment. She has been supporting some but many still need help,” she said.

Another young woman in Morogoro, near Dar es Salaam, said she supported the president but refused to give her name to the BBC in case she faced a backlash from her contemporaries.

“Samia made us believe women can lead. I would love to say more, but many youth don’t talk positively about her,” she said.

Young people make up the majority of Tanzania’s 37.7 million people registered voters – and there is anger from some over the president’s silence on issues like the shocking abductions.

And while some give credit to President Samia for stabilising the economy, in some quarters there is even nostalgia for Magufuli given the rising reports of corruption.

Her tougher approach of late may come down to several issues.

In a traditionally male-dominated society, she has faced problems asserting her authority. At recent rallies she has been reminding voters who is boss: “Don’t forget I am chief of the defence forces.”

She may also feel undermined by colleagues. Within the CCM, there was some opposition to the fact that she became the party’s presidential candidate unchallenged.

One senior party member who criticised her automatic candidacy – Humphrey Polepole – has since been abducted in mysterious circumstances.

There is also a suggestion that she has in fact become the pawn of a powerful network of business tycoons and other influential CCM backers, known colloquially as Mtandao, according to Mr Minde in his ISS report.

“Internal [CCM] party democracy has been stifled through an orchestrated move to make President Samia the sole candidate. While this has deepened divisions within the party, a façade of unity is being presented to the public,” he said.

It is believed that Magufuli refused to take orders from the Mtandao, preferring to stick to his own anti-corruption agenda.

Mr Minde warns that this has all contributed to a prevailing sense of fear in the East African nation. With the self-censorship of the media and the shrinking of political discourse, public debate has retreated to private conversations and social media.

Analysts warn that such detachment, especially among young people, could hollow out Tanzania’s democracy further – and create problems down the road for President Samia should there not be a big turnout and if protests kick off.

For Tito Magoti, a lawyer and young political activist, the demands remain simple.

“We want a free Tanzania where anyone has the freedom to speak,” he told the BBC.

“The freedom of movement and the freedom to do anything they wish.”

THE GHANA Football Association (GFA) on Friday, October 24, 2025, held a special thanksgiving service at the Imam Malik Hamburg Mosque in Maamobi, Accra, to express gratitude to Allah for the Black Stars’ qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The solemn service brought together key figures from Ghana’s football fraternity, including GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, Chief of Staff Michael Osekre, Executive Council Member Eugene Noel Nobel, Deputy General Secretary Ama Brobey-Williams, Director of Marketing Jamil Maraby, and Head of PR and Strategy Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe.

Also present were prominent football administrators such as GHALCA Chairman John Ansah, Accra Hearts of Oak Director Alhaji Brimah Akanbi, Tudu Mighty Jets President Abdullah Waheed (popularly known as Abu Sondonko), Dreams FC President Jiji Mohammed Alifoe and Vice President Prince Abdul Hamid.

The event also drew several FA staff and members of the Ghana Supporters Union led by their president, Moro Issaka Polo.

The GFA delegation was warmly received by the mosque’s leadership, led by Sheikh Zakariah Addo, Malam Abdul Razak Iddriss, and Alhaji Iddriss Yusif (Cliff).

The clerics commended the Association for its efforts in reviving Ghanaian football and offered prayers for continued success for the Black Stars and all national teams.

In his address, GFA President Kurt Okraku expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Muslim community for their unwavering prayers and support during Ghana’s World Cup qualification campaign.

He called for their continued intercession as the Black Stars prepare for the global tournament in 2026.

The mosque’s leadership, in turn, assured the FA of their continuous spiritual support and praised the Association’s recent achievements — including the Black Starlets’ qualification for the U-17 AFCON, the impressive performances of the Black Queens, and President Okraku’s elevation as CAF 2nd Vice President.

The Maamobi thanksgiving service forms part of the GFA’s interfaith celebration of Ghana’s World Cup qualification, which will continue with a Christian service on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the Christ the King Anglican Church in Sakumono.

Diddy Prison Release Date Set for May 2028

0

Sean Diddy Combs File Se A E
Sean Diddy Combs File Se A E

Sean “Diddy” Combs will walk free from federal prison in roughly three years after the Bureau of Prisons confirmed his release date as May 8, 2028. The announcement comes several weeks after the music mogul received a 50-month sentence on prostitution-related charges that marked a dramatic fall from grace for one of hip-hop’s most influential figures.

The 55-year-old rapper is projected to be released several months earlier than his full sentence would suggest, benefiting from good conduct time credits that federal inmates can earn. He’s been locked up at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024, and that time counts toward his overall sentence.

Combs was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution following a two-month trial that ended with a mixed verdict. While jurors found him guilty on those charges, they acquitted him of far more serious allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering that could have landed him behind bars for life. It’s a distinction his defense team emphasized throughout the proceedings, though the judge made clear the crimes he committed were anything but minor.

The trial painted a disturbing picture of abuse and control. Former girlfriend Cassie Ventura served as the star witness, testifying that she was repeatedly abused and forced to take drugs and have sex with other men against her will throughout their decade-long relationship. Prosecutors presented bank records showing Combs paid for sex workers to travel across state lines for what were described as drug-fueled encounters, commonly referred to as “freak-offs.”

At sentencing, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian told Combs directly that he had abused the power and control he held over women he professed to love, adding that the abuse was physical, emotional and psychological. The judge also acknowledged Combs’ role as an inspiration to many, particularly in marginalized communities, urging him to make the most of his second chance.

During the hearing, Combs spoke for about 12 minutes, saying he takes full accountability and responsibility for his actions, admitting his domestic violence would be a heavy burden to carry. He claimed he was sick on drugs and out of control, though he insisted he knew better and made no excuses for his behavior.

Prosecutors had pushed for an 11-year sentence, arguing that anything less would send the wrong message about years of domestic violence. They got far less than what they sought, but the judge made clear that a substantial sentence was needed for deterrence. Combs was also ordered to pay a $500,000 fine and will face five years of supervised release after completing his prison term, with requirements including drug testing and regular meetings with a probation officer.

His legal team has already filed a notice of appeal, signaling they’ll challenge both the conviction and the sentence. They’ve also requested that Combs be transferred to the Federal Correctional Institution at Fort Dix in New Jersey, a low-security facility with a drug treatment program they say would benefit their client’s recovery from addiction.

The case has drawn significant attention not just because of Combs’ celebrity status but also because it represents a rare instance of a powerful entertainment figure facing criminal accountability for alleged abuse. Multiple civil lawsuits remain pending against him, though some have been dismissed. He’s denied all civil claims.

There’s even been talk of a presidential pardon. Former President Donald Trump confirmed in October that Combs had requested clemency, though Trump suggested it would be difficult to grant given that Combs had been hostile to him during his campaign. Still, with Trump back in office, the possibility remains on the table, however unlikely.

For now, Combs remains behind bars in Brooklyn, where he’ll likely stay until the Bureau of Prisons decides on his transfer request. His May 2028 release date assumes good behavior and no successful appeal that could either reduce or extend his time. It’s a far cry from the lavish lifestyle and untouchable status he once enjoyed as one of the music industry’s most powerful executives.

MTN Ghana is making several efforts to help deal with digital fraud and other cybercrimes.

The telecommunication company has therefore stepped up its cybersecurity awareness efforts by training its staff nationwide.

The aim is to help strengthen workers’ ability to combat digital fraud as part of activities marking Cybersecurity Awareness month.

The training was on the theme, ‘Be Cyber Smart, Be Cyber Safe’’.

It sought to equip the MTN employees with the knowledge and tools needed to protect themselves, customers, and the company’s digital infrastructure from rising online threats.

Speaking at the Takoradi session, Regional Senior Manager for MTN Ghana’s South-West Business District, Prince Owusu-Nyarko, urged the participants to remain vigilant and mindful of their online behavior.

He emphasised that some actions, though seemingly harmless, could have negative implications for the company.

“This sensitisation is crucial because it helps staff avoid becoming victims of online fraud’.

“Security starts with us and to protect our customers, we must first empower ourselves,” he indicated.

Mr. Owusu-Nyarko further encouraged employees to adhere strictly to MTN’s cybersecurity policies to ensure safe digital practices and safeguard both corporate and personal data.

Acting Technical Manager for the Western Region, Maxwell Acquah, also described cybersecurity as a shared responsibility, adding “As digital activity grows, so does the risk of cybercrime”.

“Cybersecurity is not an individual problem-it requires a collective effort. That is why MTN continues to build awareness among its staff,” he stated.

He advised participants to be wary of downloading free applications from untrusted sources.

Some participants expressed satisfaction with the training, saying it had opened their eyes to online safety measures and the importance of being cautious about the information they share on the internet.

Nigerian rapper Ice Prince, who transformed from a potbelly to a fit physique, has clarified that his drastic weight loss had nothing to do with illness.

The rapper explained that he had gained significant belly fat over the years due to an unhealthy lifestyle and poor choices, which became a concern for his close friends and family.

After hearing their concerns, he decided it was time to make a change and began working on his fitness.

On October 27, 2025, Ice Prince shared before-and-after photos on Instagram, revealing his slimmer look. He noted that his colleague, Chopstix, played a major role in his transformation.

The Omanhene of Amanokrom and Akuapem Gyasehene, Okofrobuor Oyeeman Osim Kwatia II, has outlined a bold, forward-looking development vision to transform Amanokrom into a model modern community anchored on education, enterprise, and sustainability.

Addressing a grand durbar during the 2025 Gyaseman Odwira Festival, held under the theme “Gyaseman, a model of a modern community through education, enterprise, traditional governance and sustainability for progress and prosperity,” the chief unveiled a series of projects aimed at improving education, empowering the youth, and enhancing sanitation in the community.

At the centre of his agenda is the commissioning of the Amanokrom Youth Centre, designed to equip young people with employable skills in areas such as tailoring, hair braiding, technology, and robotics. “Every young person deserves not just literacy but livelihoods,” the chief noted, emphasizing his commitment to empowering the next generation.

He also announced the refurbishment of the Amanokrom Junior High School and its library through collaboration between the palace and development partners, alongside plans to construct a new four-unit classroom block for the Presbyterian Primary School and the Nana Amankwaa Legacy Project, a multipurpose JHS block in honour of a revered matriarch.

On public health and sanitation, the Amanokromhene revealed that a modern toilet facility had been completed to serve residents, with another planned for next year to improve access to decent sanitation. He also disclosed plans for a Land Secretariat to manage land use and ensure orderly community development.

“Odwira is more than a festival it is our renewal and covenant as a people,” Nana Osim Kwatia II declared. “Our greatest investment is in the empowerment of our youth. True greatness is measured not in monuments but in minds nurtured and opportunities created.”

The chief reaffirmed Amanokrom’s loyalty to the Okuapehene, Obrempongkese Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, pledging to align the community’s development vision with a unified and progressive Okuapeman.

Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey commended the Amanokromhene’s vision, describing it as “a model of balance between tradition and progress,” and pledged government support for educational and sanitation initiatives. Member of Parliament for Akuapem-North, Sammy Awuku, also praised the chief’s leadership, promising to complement his efforts through youth training and scholarship programmes.

Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammy Awuku, reaffirmed his commitment to driving inclusive development across the constituency, highlighting ongoing and upcoming projects aimed at improving education, health, and livelihoods.

He recounted the success of the Ofie Market initiative, which he introduced to tackle post-harvest losses by providing farmers with a ready platform to sell their produce a project that, he said, received strong support from traditional leaders and the community.

Awuku also noted his contributions toward the renovation of the Presbyterian School’s library and toilet facilities, as well as the construction of other sanitation projects within the area.

Outlining his 2026 development agenda, the MP announced several initiatives focused on youth empowerment, education, and entrepreneurship. He revealed that over 200 students have already benefited from his scholarship scheme, with plans to expand the program to reach 1,000 young people through skills training in various vocational centers next year.

In collaboration with the Akuapem Rural Bank, Awuku said arrangements are underway to create a business support fund that would cushion local entrepreneurs, with his office absorbing 25% of the 30% loan interest to ease repayment burdens.

In the health sector, he disclosed plans to launch a Health Fund and a Teachers Support Fund, each seeded with GHS 200,000, to assist nurses and teachers in meeting basic household needs.

As part of efforts to enhance employability among the youth, 32 young people from each electoral area will be sponsored to Europe for specialized skills training, after which they will be supported to establish sustainable livelihoods upon their return.

The Gyaseman Odwira, Amanokrom’s observance of the Odwira season, unfolded over a week of rich cultural and spiritual activities. It began with path-clearing and purification rites, followed by the transfer of the sacred Odwira from the ancestral forest to the palace as well as stool and shrine cleansing ceremonies, Nsoreemu procession of drumming, dancing, and homage-paying to the streets.

The festival climaxed on Saturday with the grand durbar of chiefs and people, showcasing royal pageantry and cultural pride.

The celebration ended over the weekend with a thanksgiving service, communal feasting, and farewell rituals a fitting close to a spiritually fulfilling and unifying Odwira week that underscored Amanokrom’s resolve to build a sustainable, self-reliant future.

Ghana losing hundreds of millions weekly to smuggling

0

John Awuni is the Executive Chairman of FABAG John Awuni is the Executive Chairman of FABAG

The Food and Beverages Association of Ghana (FABAG) has warned that the country is losing hundreds of millions of cedis every week due to unmonitored and unchecked illicit trade.

According to FABAG President John Awuni, while legitimate businesses struggle under high taxes and rising operational costs, smugglers continue to flood the market with untaxed and often substandard goods.

“This undermines local industries and drains government revenue,” he said.

In a press release sighted by GhanaWeb Business, FABAG revealed that essential commodities such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, alcoholic beverages, and textiles are being smuggled into Ghana through both official and unofficial entry points.

“Recent intelligence from our partners in border communities and industry stakeholders paints a dire picture: essential commodities such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, alcoholic beverages, and textiles are being extensively smuggled into the country,” the statement read.

“FABAG estimates that Ghana is losing hundreds of millions of cedis every week due to unmonitored smuggling activities. This massive revenue drain threatens the stability of our economy, diminishes investor confidence, erodes the Ghanaian cedi, and jeopardizes employment within our manufacturing and distribution sectors,” it added.

From GH¢800 to GH¢2,000: BoG increases license renewal fees for foreign bureaux

The Association stressed that illicit trade not only deprives the government of vital tax revenue but also weakens the competitiveness of local producers, ultimately stalling national development.

FABAG called on the government and relevant agencies, including the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, to intensify enforcement efforts.

They urged the deployment of advanced surveillance technologies and stronger collaboration with border communities to curb the menace.

The group also appealed for a review of Ghana’s import tax regime, arguing that high duties are a major driver of smuggling, as traders seek cheaper alternatives outside formal channels.

RSF rebels claim to capture an army base in Sudan, raising fears of a national split

0

Sudanese residents gather to receive free meals in El Fasher Sudanese residents gather to receive free meals in El Fasher

Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces say they have captured the army headquarters in the city of El Fasher, the Sudanese army’s last stronghold in the Darfur region in the west of the country.

Two videos shared by the RSF on Sunday showed its soldiers cheering in front of signs for the army’s Sixth Infantry base.

Reuters was able to verify the location but not the date. The army did not immediately state its current position.

Capture of El Fasher would be a significant victory for the RSF that could hasten a physical split of the country, by enabling the paramilitary group to consolidate its control over the vast Darfur region, which it has claimed as the base for a parallel government established this summer.

It comes after the RSF on Saturday captured the city of Bara in North Kordofan, the state that forms a barrier between Darfur and the Sudanese capital and the army-controlled eastern half of the country.

RSF besieged city for 18 months

The RSF had besieged the city, the capital of North Darfur state, for the past 18 months as it fights the army and allied former rebels and local fighters.

It has targeted civilians in frequent drone and artillery strikes, while the siege has led to starvation among the 250,000 people who remain in the west of the city.

Some activists have long warned that an RSF takeover of the city would lead to ethnic revenge attacks, as seen after the capture of the Zamzam camp for displaced people to the south.

Reuters was unable to reach residents of El Fasher, who rely on Starlink terminals to access the internet, given a long-term telecom blackout.

UN-mandated mission says RSF commits crimes against humanity

Last week, the RSF said it was facilitating the exit of civilians and surrendered fighters from El Fasher, but those who have left have reported robberies, kidnappings, sexual assault, and killings by RSF soldiers on the road.

In a video posted by a senior official in the RSF-led Tasis government, RSF soldiers say they are protecting a long convoy of mostly men leaving El Fasher, who they say are mainly soldiers. Reuters was not immediately able to verify the date or location of the footage.

A U.N.-mandated mission said last month the RSF had committed multiple crimes against humanity in the al-Fashir siege.

The army has also been accused of war crimes.

The El Fasher Resistance Committees, a local activist group, said in a statement that the fight for the city was ongoing, blaming the army leadership for leaving the fighters in the city to fight on their own.

Drone footage shared by the RSF, from which Reuters verified the location as being over the western side of El Fasher, showed cars and individuals on foot leaving the city. It was unclear whether these were civilians or soldiers.

Footage seen on social media that Reuters was unable to verify showed scores of alleged fighters in RSF custody.

War displaces millions and leads to hunger

The war between the Sudanese army and the RSF began in April 2023, when the two forces, previously sharing power, fell out over plans to integrate their forces during a transition towards democracy.

The fighting has displaced millions, plunged half of Sudan into hunger, and spread disease throughout the country.

Over the weekend, the United States convened Emirati, Egyptian, and Saudi Arabian officials to discuss a possible peace plan.

Sudan’s foreign ministry said officials were in Washington for bilateral talks.

However, the army-led Sovereign Council denied reports that representatives of both forces were engaging in indirect talks.

Ashanti Region Stages Comeback To Beat Volta 3–1 In MTN Elite U-19 Opener

0

Team Ashanit celebrating their victory

Ashanti Region produced a spirited second-half performance to rally from behind and secure a 3–1 victory over Volta Region in their opening Group B fixture at the ongoing MTN Elite U-19 Championship at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Volta Region started brightly and broke the deadlock in the 9th minute through captain Nathaniel Adanu, whose early strike gave his side the lead and set the tone for an exciting encounter.

After the break, Ashanti Region regrouped strongly and restored parity in the 47th minute. Their sustained pressure throughout the second half eventually paid off when Julios Owusu confidently converted a penalty in the 86th minute to put Ashanti ahead.

Substitute Sarfo King then sealed victory deep into stoppage time, finishing off a well-rehearsed training-ground move to complete a memorable comeback.

The win gives Ashanti Region the perfect start to their campaign and positions them as early contenders in what promises to be a fiercely competitive tournament.

In other Group B fixtures scheduled for later in the day, Northern Region were set to take on Western Region, while Greater Accra faced Upper East to wrap up Saturday’s matches at the Technical Centre.

The 11-day tournament, running from October 23 to November 2, 2025, features ten Regional Football Association (RFA) U-19 teams from across Ghana.

It serves as a vital platform for the nation’s most promising young talents to showcase their skills, gain experience, and attract the attention of national youth team selectors and professional scouts.

Proudly sponsored by MTN Ghana, the Elite U-19 Championship forms a key part of the GFA’s “Power to the Youth” initiative — a development programme aimed at identifying, nurturing, and promoting young footballers.

Beyond competition, the tournament emphasises values such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, reflecting Ghana’s long-term vision of building a strong foundation for future football excellence.

Tolon MP invokes RTI law, seeks update from Mahama – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

The Member of Parliament for Tolon and First Deputy Minority Whip, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, has formally written to President John Dramani Mahama requesting an update on investigations into the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight senior government officials and military personnel.

In his letter dated October 27, 2025, the MP invoked Article 21(1)(f) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 18 of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), which guarantee citizens the right to access information of public interest.

The tragic accident, which occurred two months ago, resulted in the deaths of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Environment Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafimi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo.

Following the incident, the government announced on August 25 that a committee of inquiry had been set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, with a promise that findings would be made public within 30 days.

However, Iddrisu noted that no report or update has since been released, despite widespread public concern.

“In light of the time that has passed and the significant public interest in this matter, I respectfully request a copy of the investigative report or update,” the MP stated in his letter. “The public deserves to know what led to this tragic loss of such prominent figures and dedicated public servants.”

He further requested that if the full report is not yet complete, an interim update should be provided to demonstrate transparency and accountability.

“This would not only keep the public informed but also reflect the government’s commitment to transparency during this difficult time,” he added.

Iddrisu concluded his letter by expressing hope for a prompt response in accordance with the timelines stipulated by law.

Kpebu Martin tackles NPP MP over ORAL claims

Martin Kpebu has responded to Baffour Awuah’s claim that the work of the ORAL committee was a waste Martin Kpebu has responded to Baffour Awuah’s claim that the work of the ORAL committee was a waste

Renowned private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu has reacted to criticisms of the work of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) preparatory committee, which he was a part of, by the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 on October 25, 2025, Kpebu asserted that President John Dramani Mahama took the right decision to form the committee.

He indicated that the committee helped the president satisfy the desire of Ghanaians for the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government to be held accountable, adding that the committee did not use any resources from the government.

“As for the decision of the president to create ORAL, it is a high-water mark. We filled in a vacuum at that time. Remember, when citizens are supporting you, it is only for a while. If they find out you are tone-deaf, they withdraw, and then you find it difficult to get them to rally behind you.

“So, that was a stellar decision by the president to carry the citizens along, even though I don’t have an office,” he said.

He added, “Baffour said it (ORAL) was a waste of state resources — an MP and lawyer… We didn’t take GH¢1 of government money, not even fuel, not even water from the government.”

The private legal practitioner said that he would never take money for such jobs, saying, “I’m a bit smarter than that… small money, you won’t get me; I won’t take it because you would pay a high price.”

Manhyia South MP blasts Kpebu, Domelevo for ‘feeding AG with garbage’ in ORAL report

What the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South said:

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah launched an attack on members of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, accusing them of submitting what he described as a poorly executed and “garbage-filled” report to the Attorney General.

According to the lawmaker, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been vindicated in its long-held position that the ORAL initiative was a complete waste of time and national resources.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on October 22, 2025, Baffour Awuah questioned the competence and diligence of the committee members, including former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo, lawyer Martin Kpebu, and retired Commissioner of Police Kofi Boakye.

“What was the utility of the ORAL? When you look at the persons forming the committee — Domelevo, Kpebu and Boakye — these are all experienced people. Yet, all they did was receive documents and hand over a report to the president filled with garbage. What was the use of that?” he quizzed.

Mzbel is a veteran Ghanaian singer Mzbel is a veteran Ghanaian singer

Veteran Ghanaian singer, Mzbel, has recounted how the late former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings once embarrassed her in public, calling it the most humiliating moment of her life.

Speaking in an interview with media personality, Emmanuel Agyemang, the “16 Years” hitmaker recounted how she was snubbed by the late First Lady at a public event years ago.

According to Mzbel, the incident happened during the birthday celebration of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings at the National Theatre.

She recalled being filled with excitement at the opportunity to meet the former president and take pictures with him.

However, she said her enthusiasm turned into humiliation when Nana Konadu pushed her aside in front of others.

Heartbreak and Fraud: Mzbel recounts how she lost GH¢2 million

“It was JJ Rawlings’ birthday and we were all invited. I was excited when I saw JJ Rawlings and decided to hug and take pictures with him. When I got there, Nana Konadu pushed me aside. This was at the National Theatre. That was the biggest embarrassment of my life,” Mzbel recalled.

She went on to explain that she was later informed the late First Lady was upset with her over comments she had made years earlier during the 2016 general election campaign.

Mzbel mentioned that at the time, she was politically inexperienced and had made “reckless” remarks while campaigning for John Dramani Mahama in 2016.

“She did something that really pained me. I don’t know what I did, but during the 2016 election campaign, I was reckless. I didn’t know anything about politics, so I was talking anyhow, and I think she didn’t like it. She was annoyed with me,” she said.

The former First Lady, Founder of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, passed away on October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra, aged 76.

According to Oheneba Akwasi Abeyie, head of her family, and Akomfuohene of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Nana Konadu was rushed to the hospital after falling ill in the morning but passed away later that day.

She had attended the funeral service of Lucy Abena Konadu Effah at Christ the King Church just a day before her death.

Following her passing, President John Dramani Mahama declared three days of national mourning.

A recent comment by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has stirred public discussion and concern over the rights of students in Senior High Schools (SHS).

The minister reportedly stated that “we will not tolerate long hair in schools today or tomorrow,” in response to growing debate about whether new female students should be required to cut their hair upon admission.

The remark has been met with criticism from educators, parents and religious leaders, who argue that such a policy infringes on personal freedoms and fails to respect Ghana’s religious and cultural diversity.

In a detailed response, Dr Abdul- Muhsin Baafi, an Islamic scholar, has described the minister’s statement as “unfortunate and troubling,” questioning the educational relevance of hair-cutting policies.

“What educational significance does cutting a student’s hair truly have? How does keeping one’s natural hair hinder learning or academic performance?” Dr Baafi asked.

He noted that Ghana’s constitution guarantees freedom of religion and expression, emphasising that any school rule which disregards religious or cultural values risks marginalizing certain groups.

According to Dr Baafi, the requirement for girls, particularly Muslim students to shave their hair directly contradicts Islamic teachings.

He cited religious texts and scholarly opinions which deem it ḥarām (forbidden) for women to shave their heads except for valid medical reasons.

“In Islam, women are honored and their identities are protected. Muslim girls cover their hair as a symbol of modesty and faith,” he explained, adding that compelling them to shave contradicts their religious obligations.

He referenced several hadiths (Prophetic traditions) and rulings from classical scholars and contemporary fatwa committees that prohibit women from shaving their heads except in cases of illness or necessity.

Dr Baafi also called for broader consultation with key stakeholders, including religious leaders, education experts, and parents before policies or pronouncements affecting students’ identity and faith are made.

“In many countries, schoolgirls attend classes with their natural hair, and this has never affected their discipline or academic performance,” he said.

“Education should focus on knowledge, discipline, and character not on enforcing uniformity that contradicts faith and identity.”

The issue of students’ hair has long been a subject of contention in Ghana’s education system, often highlighting the tension between institutional discipline and personal or religious expression.

Observers say the controversy underscores the need for policy reviews that promote inclusivity, respect for diversity, and sensitivity to Ghana’s multicultural and multi-faith society.

Dangote unveils ambitious refinery expansion

Nigerian billionaire and industrial giant Aliko Dangote has announced an ambitious plan to more than double the capacity of his oil refinery, positioning the facility among the largest in the world.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos on Sunday October 26, 2025, Dangote revealed that the refinery’s output will be expanded to 1.4 million barrels per day, up from its current 650,000 barrels per day.

He described the move as both a strategic response to growing regional fuel demand and a strong vote of confidence in Nigeria’s economy.

“When it is completed, this will be the largest refinery ever built at a single site, surpassing India’s Jamnagar refinery,” he said while referencing the current global leader in refinery capacity.

Dangote emphasised that external financing will support the expansion project, enabling the privately managed refinery to better serve markets across Africa and beyond.

Although Nigeria remains one of the continent’s top crude oil producers, its reliance on imported petroleum products continues due to years of underperforming state-owned refineries hampered by chronic maintenance issues.

Since it began operations in January 2024, the Dangote refinery has been seen as a turning point for the sector which aims to ease pressure on both domestic consumption and export markets.

Hearts fans talked to Asare while he was in his car Hearts fans talked to Asare while he was in his car

Tensions ran high at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 26, 2025, after Hearts of Oak’s 2-2 draw with Bibiani GoldStars, and passionate fans seized the opportunity to share their frustrations directly with goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.

Asare, who had gone five league games without conceding prior to the fixture, was approached by supporters while leaving the stadium in his car.

One fan, speaking respectfully but with emotion, engaged him in a brief one-on-one conversation that reflected the deep passion surrounding the club’s recent performances.

The supporter acknowledged Asare’s efforts and commitment but urged him to show stronger leadership on the pitch, especially as the team captain.

Depth and Rotation: How the Black Stars used 46 players on the road to the 2026 World Cup

He pointed out that while the goalkeeper had done his best, the defenders needed more guidance and coordination, emphasizing that as captain, Asare had a responsibility to demand more from his teammates.

“We support you, and you have also done your best for us. The defenders have to help you. If you look at the goals we conceded, as the captain, you should talk to the players. If you help Hearts, Hearts will help you. You know we love you; we don’t want any problems, or else your record will be tainted,” he said.

In a calm and humble response, Asare accepted the feedback, noting that such moments are part of football.

He assured the fans that there are many games ahead and promised that the team would continue to give their best.

“What you are saying is true, but it’s part of football. There are more matches left, and we will do our best,” Asare said.

The draw leaves Hearts of Oak in sixth place with 13 points, three points behind leaders Medeama.

Cameroon’s President Paul Biya has been re-elected for an eighth term that could keep him in office until he is nearly 100, according to official results announced on Monday by the Central African country’s Constitutional Council.

“Hereby proclaimed President-elect: the candidate Biya Paul,” said Clement Atangana, president of the Constitutional Council.

Biya, 92, took office in 1982 and has held a tight grip on power ever since, doing away with the presidential term limit in 2008 and winning reelection by comfortable margins.

This year, his strongest challenge came from Issa Tchiroma Bakary, a former government spokesperson and employment minister in his late 70s who broke ranks with Biya earlier this year and mounted a campaign that drew large crowds and endorsements from a coalition of opposition parties and civic groups.

Minority warns of return to Cash-and-Carry amid NHIS breakdown – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

The Minority in Parliament has raised concerns over what it describes as a gradual return to the cash-and-carry system in Ghana’s healthcare delivery, blaming it on the recent inactivity of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

According to the caucus, the NHIS has been largely non-functional for nearly two months, compelling patients to pay out of pocket for medical services that should be covered under the scheme.

Raising the issue on the floor of Parliament, the Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, said the situation is worsening the financial burden on citizens and limiting access to essential healthcare.

“As we speak today, the NHIS for close to about two months has not been working. People have to pay before they are provided services. As we speak, the links are also not working; they have been deactivated. So, we have now reverted to the cash-and-carry system,” he lamented.

Meanwhile, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has confirmed a temporary technical disruption affecting some electronic hospital management systems across the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 26, the NHIA assured the public that it is working with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to restore full system functionality as soon as possible.

The Authority further directed all NHIS-accredited healthcare providers to continue serving patients without interruption, urging them to use the mobile phone–based platform to generate Claims Check Codes (CCC) to facilitate service delivery.

NDPC publishes first Annual Progress Report in 30 years – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has, for the first time in three decades, published the government’s Annual Progress Report to provide the public with an accurate picture of national performance across key sectors.

Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday, October 27, the Chairman of the NDPC, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, said the report is an important accountability tool that allows citizens to assess how well government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) are meeting their development targets.

“We had to finish the annual progress report, and for the first time in 30 years, we published it so that the public knows how the government performs,” Dr. Thompson said. “I have always told journalists that if you really want to know how the government of the day performs, look at the annual progress report. Unfortunately, most people don’t pay attention.”

He revealed that 13 MDAs failed to submit their reports for the 2024 review period, describing the situation as a serious breach of accountability.

“About 13 different ministries, departments and agencies did not submit their reports for 2024, which is a serious infraction,” he disclosed. “And the Finance Minister, Ato Forson, is actually cracking the whip on that.”

Dr. Thompson expressed particular concern that two of the country’s largest spending ministries—the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health—were among those that failed to comply.

“What is even more disturbing is that two of the number are two of the biggest spenders in the country—the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health. Between the two of them they account for over 51% of government spending, and yet when it came time to submit their annual progress reports, they simply didn’t do that,” he said.

The NDPC chairman stressed that the publication of the report marks an important milestone in promoting transparency and evidence-based decision-making in government.

He urged journalists, civil society organisations, and the general public to use the document as a basis for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring better delivery of national development goals.

Black Queens Set to Finish Off Egypt in Accra Clash

Black Queens

Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, are brimming with confidence as they prepare to take on Egypt in the second leg of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 27.

The Queens head into the encounter with a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg in Cairo, where they outclassed the Egyptians with a spirited display that combined speed, skill, and teamwork. Goals from key attackers Evelyn Badu, Doris Boaduwaa, and Grace Asantewaa sealed the convincing win and gave the team a solid platform to build on at home.

Under the guidance of new Swedish coach Kim Lars Björkegren, the Black Queens have shown renewed tactical discipline, attacking flair, and confidence. Björkegren, who took charge earlier this year, has introduced a structured, possession-based style that has brought the best out of his players, particularly the midfield and forward line.

“We respect Egypt, but we are focused on our game. The players are confident, and we want to make our home fans proud,” Coach Björkegren said ahead of the match.

The team’s resurgence comes at a time when the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is enjoying strong corporate backing, notably from telecom giant MTN, whose $2 million sponsorship package supports all four national teams — the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites, and Black Starlets. The partnership has provided critical motivation and logistical support that have improved preparations and morale within the national teams.

The Queens will once again rely on the creativity of Asantewaa in midfield, the pace and finishing of Boaduwaa, and the leadership and vision of Badu as they aim to wrap up the tie in front of a home crowd expected to fill the Accra Sports Stadium.

With a three-goal cushion and renewed belief, the Black Queens are tipped to complete the job and advance to the next round of qualifiers for Morocco 2026.

Kick-off is at 4:00 p.m. at the Accra Sports Stadium.

GH¢19m lost to cybercrime in nine months – CSA – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has reported a significant increase in cybercrime cases, with financial losses exceeding GH¢19 million between January and September 2025.

Speaking at the International Conference on Information Systems and Emerging Technologies on Monday, October 27, the Head of Cyber Security Technology Standards, Jake France, disclosed that incidents of online fraud have surged sharply this year.

“The rising connectivity has been accompanied by increasing cyber threats. Between January and March 2025, CSA recorded 305 cases of online fraud, up from 194 in the same period last year. The financial losses in that span grew from about 2.4 million to 4.4 million Ghana cedis,” he said.

Mr. France further revealed that cases of online blackmail and sexual extortion have also seen a worrying increase.

“Losses from online blackmail and sextortion have also surged, 155 incidents in the first four months of 2025, with financial damage approaching 500,000 Ghana cedis, nearly five times the amount recorded during the same period in 2024. From January to September 2025, the CSA recorded a total cybercrime-related financial loss of 19,313,000,” he stated.

He cautioned that while emerging technologies such as robotics, blockchain, and cloud computing continue to drive innovation and opportunity, they also heighten exposure to cyber risks—making it essential to promote secure and ethical technology adoption.

The conference, hosted by the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) in collaboration with the Namibia University of Science and Technology, was themed “Emerging Technologies and Industrial Revolution for Sustainable Development.”

Kennedy Agyapong’s Asian-Miracle Proposal: Vision or Pipe Dream?

0

Former MP and NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has pledged to model Ghana’s economic transformation on the so-called Asian Miracle, citing examples from Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan. Speaking at the 2025 National Emerging Leaders Economic Forum, he argued that government-led industrial support, combined with strict accountability, could drive rapid development if implemented with discipline and performance-based incentives. His vision echoes past development models but also raises questions about whether Ghana’s institutions can deliver the same balance of control and competence.

Agyapong’s proposal, if implemented successfully, would present a fleeting opportunity to transform Ghana’s economic fortunes. His proposal, however, is not alien to rhetoric and policy surrounding economic governance in Ghana. The Asian miracle was characterized not only by government-led industrial support, as argued by Mr. Agyapong, but also by a highly interventionist state role. Kwame Nkrumah’s experiment with such a model in Ghana during the late 1950s and 1960s represented an equally ambitious attempt to rapidly industrialize and modernize the newly independent nation through extensive government involvement in the economy. His vision, influenced by socialist principles and pan-African ideology, aimed to break Ghana’s dependence on cocoa exports and colonial economic structures by utilizing state revenues to develop a diversified, self-sufficient economy. However, the program suffered from mismanagement, corruption, and cost overruns, leading to mounting debt, inflation, and economic stagnation. By 1966, when Nkrumah was overthrown in a military coup, Ghana’s economy was in crisis, with many state enterprises operating at a loss and the country burdened with debt. This served as a cautionary tale of overambitious state planning, which nonetheless left a complex legacy of infrastructure development alongside economic dysfunction.

Over the years, we have learned that mismanagement and perpetual subsidization have become endemic features of Ghana’s public enterprises, with profitability and operational efficiency taking a distant backseat. These state-owned entities have proven particularly vulnerable to political patronage, a pattern that persists despite occasional reform efforts. Even the Akufo-Addo administration’s restructuring initiatives under SIGA, which initially kindled some optimism, could be said to have disappointed due to the continued appointment of party loyalists to key management positions of public enterprises. As corruption and mismanagement have characterized successive administrations, the political will to prioritize meritocracy over patronage in public enterprises remains conspicuously absent.

The calculus is stark: when substantial private capital finances political campaigns, the subsequent plundering of state resources becomes almost inevitable. Once elected, candidates reward their benefactors’ loyalty by granting them control of public enterprises. Agyapong, through his recent rhetoric, has demonstrated a clear understanding of the developmental challenges confronting Ghana. However, his capacity to transform public enterprises from a patronage-based system to a merit-driven one faces significant structural constraints, chief among them being the imperative to reward party loyalty and satisfy campaign financiers. Herein lies the fundamental disconnect: while mounting losses at state enterprises have become increasingly intolerable to Ghanaian civil society, the political class has developed an apparent comfort with this status quo. This divergence between public expectation and political accountability represents perhaps the most formidable obstacle to meaningful reform.

The ideal form of the Asian model may not thrive in Ghana’s current socio-political setup. Look closer, and you’ll realize that the state-owned enterprises left untouched by the sweeping privatization drive in the late 1990s have not been significantly profitable in the last three decades, and their operations still suffer from mismanagement, corruption, and cost overruns. The core features of the “East Asian Development Model” which engendered the so-called Asian miracle, include government control of finance, state-backed support for public enterprises, import substitution industrialization, a strong reliance on export markets, and elevated domestic savings rates. While in theory, the government of Ghana could expand its oversight or control over finance to emulate the Asian model, unfortunately, the list of institutional and structural challenges far surpasses the channels of feasibility and effective implementation.

Unlike East Asian states, such as Taiwan and Singapore, which implemented strong, technocratic bureaucracies to guide credit and investment, Ghana’s financial institutions operate within a liberalized framework shaped by IMF and World Bank reforms since the 1980s. This limits direct state intervention. As of October 2025, Ghana remains under an IMF arrangement, and a continuation of this arrangement before or during a potential 2028 administration could significantly hinder any attempt by the state to exert extensive control over finance. We must ask the uncomfortable questions: Could a Kennedy Agyapong administration maintain disciplined fiscal management? Probably not! The constraining fiscal deficits and debt servicing obligations on Ghana, coupled with the apparent need to reward political loyalists, limit the viability and practicality of state industrial financing.

A modern-day import substitution industrialization strategy may require reintroducing tariffs or restrictive trade policies to protect infant or mature domestic industries. This may likely increase production costs, raise consumer prices, and strain relations with key trading partners and multilateral institutions such as the IMF and the World Bank. Additionally, energy and logistics costs remain high, and state agencies often lack the technical and managerial capacity to coordinate long-term industrial policy effectively. This has been evident across administrations under the Fourth Republic.

Agyapong’s vision may be implementable during a potential two terms, but the long-term continuity of the policy remains subject to debate. Our electoral cycles, unlike those of East Asian countries when they embarked on their development agendas, are prone to policy discontinuity, and understandably so, when subsequent administrations deviate from Agyapong’s industrial strategy for reasons ranging from an unsupportive economic environment to contrasting ideologies. In the absence of a binding bipartisan industrial strategy, Ghana would merely scratch the surface of problems that demand a comprehensive and fundamental transformation.

A realistic path forward could involve strengthening the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), providing direct but conditional financial assistance to local industries, prioritizing national development over political patronage, and empowering the Special Prosecutor’s Office and relevant agencies to aggressively prosecute financial crimes. Mr. Agyapong argued that “Beneficiaries of soft loans and incentives must deliver results. If they fail, the support—and in some cases the entire enterprise—should be taken away and handed to more competent managers.” To strengthen accountability, repercussions would need to extend beyond mere manager replacements. State investigations would have to be commissioned to determine whether failures stem from corruption, negligence, or malfeasance, and the necessary stringent measures would be applied accordingly. Imposing stringent penalties for willful financial loss to the state is not unprecedented; similar measures were observed during the transformation of East Asian economies, particularly in Taiwan under Chiang Kai-shek and Singapore under Lee Kuan Yew.

Hiplife pioneer Reggie Rockstone has disclosed that former Chief Justice of Ghana, Sophia Akuffo, was one of three women who helped raise him.

In a conversation with media personality Deloris Frimpong-Manso on “The Delay Show,” the Grandpapa of Hiplife shared details about his upbringing and how different women played maternal roles in his life at various stages.

According to Reggie, Sophia Akuffo, whom he calls “Mum Sophia,” was once his father’s companion and a figure in his early years.

He explained that although his father never married her, she was involved in his upbringing.

Music was never my career – Reggie Rockstone

“My dad didn’t marry her, though. He never married anyone except my biological mother. From Milly, I was raised by Mum Sophia (Sophia Akuffo, former Chief Justice of Ghana), who was also my father’s companion. We still have a relationship,” he said.

Reggie Rockstone explained that his parents had a troubled marriage that eventually ended in separation. Afterward, his father lived with different women at different times, and those women became part of his family, helping to raise him.

“I was born in the UK and raised by three beautiful, strong women. My biological mum Anna, of course, the African American side, Milly, who was my father’s companion. Before my dad and biological mother separated, I had another mum who raised me, and that’s Milly,” he recounted.

The “Keep Your Eyes on the Road” hitmaker also looked back on his parents’ separation and how it affected his childhood, including his movement between the UK, Ghana, and the United States.

“My mother and father broke up when I was very young. I was a child. I was with my mum for maybe seven years. I was their only child for many years. Even my oldest child is older than my siblings,” he said.

He recounted how his mother, a certified nurse in the UK, brought him to Ghana under the pretense of a holiday. At the time, her marriage was struggling, and she decided to stay in Ghana with her son.

“My mum told me we were coming for holidays and that’s how I came to Ghana. Around that time, they hadn’t broken up, but the marriage wasn’t as good as expected. Based on how my father’s life was at the time, she advised herself and brought me to Ghana,” he explained.

Reggie also spoke fondly of his late father, the legendary Saint Osei, popularly known as Ricky, who was a fashion designer abroad.

“My dad is the legendary Saint Osei (Ricky). He was a fashion designer, a very successful one at that. I was born into an artistic family. Ricky made money when my mum left with me to Ghana because he moved to America. And later, when he made it, he came for me. He came for me because he had made it, and I was his first son,” Reggie shared.

Blow-by-blow account of Kasoa Tollbooth accident that claimed 8 lives

0

The accident occurred between the Ghana Broadcasting area and the Kasoa Tollbooth The accident occurred between the Ghana Broadcasting area and the Kasoa Tollbooth

A reporter with Accra-based United Television (UTV) Ghana has narrated the events leading to a gory accident near the Kasoa Tollbooth in the Greater Accra Region on Sunday, October 26, 2025, resulting in multiple casualties.

According to him, the accident occurred between the Ghana Broadcasting area and the Kasoa Tollbooth and involved a Jeep and a Sprinter bus.

Eyewitnesses, according to him, say the Jeep, believed to have suffered brake failure, was reversing on the highway near the ECG transformers when a Sprinter bus carrying 23 passengers from Madina collided with it at top speed.

“There was heavy traffic between the Ghana Broadcasting area and the Kasoa Tollbooth, so our driver manoeuvred through until we reached the usual police checkpoint. That was when we saw the aftermath of a gory accident; some people were dead, others severely injured, and several had already been transported to the hospital.

“According to eyewitnesses living nearby, they heard a loud crash from a vehicle that appeared to have suffered brake failure. They identified the vehicle as a Jeep heading toward Kasoa. Upon reaching the ECG transformers near the tollbooth close to the Ghana Broadcasting area, the Jeep reportedly began reversing on the highway. At the same time, a Sprinter bus carrying 23 passengers from Madina and heading toward Kasoa was speeding down the same lane. Unable to swerve or stop in time due to the Jeep reversing on the highway, the Sprinter crashed into the Jeep,” he reported.

He added that the crash caused the Sprinter bus to lift into the air, ejecting some passengers onto the ground. The bus then landed on those individuals, killing them instantly.

“The impact caused the Sprinter bus to lift into the air, ejecting some passengers who landed on the road. Tragically, the Sprinter then landed on three of those individuals, killing them instantly. Others inside the bus were also severely injured,” he added.

The reporter added that eyewitnesses claimed they waited for the police for several hours to rescue those trapped in the bus. Unfortunately, the delay may have contributed to more fatalities, he added.

The reporter also indicated that due to the severity of the accident, the Ngleshie-Amanfrom Health Facility was unable to manage the number and conditions of the casualties. Medical staff advised that the victims be transferred to larger government hospitals, such as the Winneba Hospital or the Police Hospital in Accra.

He recounted that they waited nearly 30 minutes for an ambulance to arrive.

During that time, one more person died at the accident scene and was later taken to the St Gregory Morgue. Another victim passed away at the Ngleshie-Amanfro Health Facility before he left the area.

“The casualties who were initially taken to the Ngleshie-Amanfro Health Facility had to be transferred to a government hospital because the staff said the situation was too severe for them to handle. So, the victims were either to be sent to the Winneba Hospital or the Police Hospital in Accra. We waited for nearly 30 minutes for an ambulance to arrive and transport them.

“Sadly, during that time, one more person died at the scene and was taken to the St Gregory Morgue. Another person passed away at the Ngleshie-Amanfro Hospital before I left. So, if I add everything up, eight people lost their lives in this accident,” he said.

Sir Sam Jonah questions source of funding behind Accra’s ‘luxury’ real estate boom

Ghanaian business magnate, Sir Sam Jonah play videoGhanaian business magnate, Sir Sam Jonah

Ghanaian business magnate and Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Sir Sam Jonah, has raised alarm about the rapid rise of luxury real estate developments in Accra.

Speaking during an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray posted via YouTube on October 26, 2025, Sir Jonah suggested that many of these developments are being financed with funds from dubious or untraceable sources.

He questioned how such high-cost projects across affluent neighbourhoods such as Airport Residential, Cantonments and Labone are being funded in a country where securing large-scale development capital remains extremely challenging.

BoG crackdown targets dollar-use in real estate, education sectors

“If you walk around my area, Airport Residential, Cantonments or Labone, [look at] all the high-rise buildings going up. Everywhere in the world, developers go to the bank to take loans for those developments,” he observed.

“Some of these apartments are all empty. Do you think that if money were collected from banks, banks would not have moved in? What I’m saying is that they are being funded through sources which are not honest. Go around and ask, ‘Why are apartments empty’? If you had borrowed money, if you had gone to the bank to borrow money to build, you would ensure that those apartments are fully occupied,” he explained.

Sir Jonah noted that if legitimate financing were involved, developers would be under pressure to rent or sell units quickly. Instead, he said, there is no evidence of foreclosures, auctions or banks demanding repayment.

Government moves to restore integrity in real estate

According to him, this absence of financial accountability strongly suggests that the booming luxury real estate sector is not being fueled by traditional lending.

He further emphasised that the financial health of Ghana’s banks makes their involvement even more unlikely.

“Ghanaian banks are not that well, and the balance sheets are not strong enough to give you patent [huge capital]. The interest rates are just astronomical. You can hardly make it as a developer,” he expressed.

Sir Sam Jonah also argued that no credible developer could survive constructing multimillion-dollar apartments and leaving them vacant for years.

Meanwhile, commercial lending rates in Ghana are estimated to range between 25 and 35 percent.

Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that his efforts to convince the Black Queens to prepare for their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying game have proven futile.

Ahead of Ghana’s second-leg match against Egypt in the 2026 WAFCON, the players have demanded that their unpaid bonuses of $9,500 be paid in full before they play.

According to the Minister, he and Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, along with other officials visited the team to explain the circumstances leading to the debt.

“I was out of the country, so when I arrived, the GFA President briefed me about the situation with the Black Queens. After several failed attempts, he suggested we go and meet them. I told them it’s true we owe them, and the government is going through the necessary processes to secure approvals. The debt arose because, in presenting the estimate for that tournament, a significant portion of their accommodation costs was scrapped.

“In the end, we had to use part of the bonus allocation to cover accommodation expenses, and this was communicated to them. We assured them that the bonuses would be paid, including all their per diems for the tournament. Personally, I gave them GH¢10,000 to support them, so if we’ve done all this, it shows our commitment to settling the debt,” he said in Twi on Asempa FM.

However, Kofi Adams noted that his pleas went unheeded, as the players insisted on receiving their bonuses or they may boycott the match.

He expressed disappointment in the stance taken by the Black Queens, stating that the government has shown enough commitment to resolving their grievances.

“We promised that once the finance ministry and the Controller and Accountant General give clearance, we will pay them. We said everything and pleaded with them, though we didn’t want to give a specific date for payment. Their refusal to play could lead to the nation being banned. But they looked us in the face and said they will not play until payment is made,” he added.
