Michael Blackson’s ex-fiancée Rada Cheang reacts to his apology after he admitted to Impregnating another woman

0

Ghanaian-American comedian Michael Blackson’s ex-fiancée, Rada Cheang, has responded to his recent public apology following his revelation that he fathered another child with another woman just two months after she gave birth.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Rada described Blackson’s apology as “pathetic,” adding that she refuses to engage in negativity. “I don’t normally respond, but let’s just agree that was the most pathetic post or apology ever. I’m walking in peace, guided by God’s grace.

My energy belongs to my 4-month-old son, not to negativity,” she wrote.

Rada expressed that while many found the situation embarrassing, her love once came from a place of deep understanding and compassion, saying, “When love runs that deep, you stop seeing the man and start seeing the boy who just wanted to be loved and that’s what breaks you.”

Reflecting on their relationship, Rada referred to it as a “circus,” admitting that she stayed too long despite knowing she wasn’t his type. “I take full accountability for staying in the circus too long. His type was never me because I’m a real woman,” she stated, concluding that her experience was a lesson in knowing when to walk away.

The High Court in Accra has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, for failing to appear in court without permission.

Chairman Wontumi alongside his team of lawyers were absent, and no explanation was provided to the court when the case was called at 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28.

The prosecution team, led by Chief State Attorney Stella Ohene Appiah was however present.

Presiding judge Justice Audrey Kocuvi-Tay noted that the day’s proceedings were scheduled for the filing of disclosures and subsequent case management.

She expressed concern over the absence of the accused and his legal representatives, emphasising that they had offered “no excuse of any sort to the court.”

Chairman Wontumi is standing trial with Kwame Antwi, a director of Akonta Mining Limited and the company itself. The trio has been charged with assigning mineral rights without lawful approval.

Black Queens Face Egypt In WAFCON Qualifier Today

GHANA’S SENIOR women’s national team, the Black Queens, are brimming with confidence as they prepare to take on Egypt in the second leg of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium today, October 28.

There is however, uncertainty around the team as the players are said to be agitating over unpaid bonuses – with each player said to be owed $9,500 from their 2024 WAFCON campaign in Morocco, where they finished third.

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku visited the team which is camping at the Erata Hotel, yesterday morning where he held discussions with the players amid the unpaid bonuses dispute.

The Queens head into the encounter with a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg in Cairo, where they outclassed the Egyptians with a spirited display that combined speed, skill, and teamwork.

Goals from key attackers Evelyn Badu, Doris Boaduwaa, and Grace Asantewaa sealed the convincing win and gave the team a solid platform to build on at home.

Under the guidance of new Swedish coach Kim Lars Björkegren, the Black Queens have shown renewed tactical discipline, attacking flair, and confidence. Björkegren, who took charge earlier this year, has introduced a structured, possession-based style that has brought the best out of his players, particularly the midfield and forward line.

“We respect Egypt, but we are focused on our game. The players are confident, and we want to make our home fans proud,” Coach Björkegren said ahead of the match.

The team’s resurgence comes at a time when the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is enjoying strong corporate backing, notably from telecom giant MTN, whose $2 million sponsorship package supports all four national teams — the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites, and Black Starlets.

The partnership has provided critical motivation and logistical support that have improved preparations and morale within the national teams.

The Queens will once again rely on the creativity of Asantewaa in midfield, the pace and finishing of Boaduwaa, and the leadership and vision of Badu as they aim to wrap up the tie in front of a home crowd expected to fill the Accra Sports Stadium.

With a three-goal cushion and renewed belief, the Black Queens are tipped to complete the job and advance to the next round of qualifiers for Morocco 2026. Kick-off is at 4:00 p.m. at the Accra Sports Stadium.

German Embassy sets record straight on validity of Lumba, Akosua Serwaa’s marriage

0

The family of the late Ghanaian music legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has announced that the German Embassy in Accra has confirmed the validity of his marriage to Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosu.

In a statement, the family said the Embassy had, in a letter dated October 27, 2025, verified that under German civil law, there exists a valid marriage between Charles Kwadwo Fosu and Akosua Serwah, which was celebrated on December 23, 2004, in Bornheim, Germany.

According to the family, the Embassy further clarified that the marriage “had not been dissolved by divorce but ended with the decease of the husband on 26 July 2025.”

The family stated that this official confirmation settles all speculation surrounding the marital status of the late highlife musician, describing it as “a final and authoritative validation” of Mrs. Fosu’s position as the lawful widow of the late artiste.

In the same statement, the family expressed gratitude to fans and sympathizers for their patience and continued support of Mrs. Fosu during what they described as an emotionally difficult period.

They assured the public that their aim is not conflict but clarity, justice, and the preservation of the truth and dignity of their beloved relative.

The family also disclosed that a formal investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death of the late musician, in collaboration with the Ghana Police CID.

Additionally, a new funeral committee, comprising only direct relatives of the deceased, has been formed to oversee arrangements for a befitting farewell.

Further details on the funeral date and venue are expected to be announced after consultations with relevant stakeholders.

Born in 1964, Daddy Lumba was one of Ghana’s most celebrated highlife musicians, known for a career that spanned more than four decades and produced numerous chart-topping hits.

He passed away on July 26, 2025.

Galamsey threatens Ghana’s survival — KAIPTC Commandant calls for urgent national action

0

By James Amoh Junior, GNA

Accra, Oct. 27, GNA – Air Commodore David Anetey Akrong, the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has described illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey, as an existential threat to Ghana’s survival.

He warned that the menace had evolved into a national crisis with grave implications for the country’s environment, economy, and human security.

Speaking at the “Reflections on Security Series” seminar held at the KAIPTC in Accra, Air Commodore Akrong said the widespread degradation of forests, pollution of rivers, and destruction of arable lands had placed Ghana’s water security, public health, and sustainable development at serious risk.

The seminar, on the theme: “Galamsey as an Existential Threat to Ghana: A Call for Reflection and Action,” brought together policymakers, academics, security experts, civil society organizations, and media practitioners to deliberate on the multi-dimensional challenges posed by illegal mining and explore collaborative strategies to curb it.

Air Commodore Akrong said illegal mining, once seen as a livelihood activity, had transformed into a deeply entrenched network of organized criminality involving corruption, money laundering, and the exploitation of vulnerable populations.

He cautioned that, “If left unchecked, these dynamics threaten not only the sustainability of the country’s natural resources but also the legitimacy of governance institutions and the stability of local communities.”

He cited the contamination of major water bodies such as the Pra, Ankobra, Birim, and Offin with toxic chemicals, including mercury, cyanide, and arsenic, as evidence of the alarming scale of environmental destruction.

The Commandant said, “Entire communities are at risk, while the siltation of reservoirs is jeopardizing access to potable water for several towns and cities,” emphasizing that the crisis had far-reaching public health consequences.

According to him, galamsey had triggered a “silent public health emergency,” contributing to kidney diseases, respiratory ailments, birth defects, and the spread of waterborne and vector-borne diseases across mining communities.

He noted that the threat extended beyond environmental degradation, as illegal mining was now intertwined with transnational criminal networks that facilitate illicit financial flows and smuggling of industrial equipment and weapons, potentially fueling broader insecurity.

Air Commodore Akrong commended successive governments for their various interventions, including the establishment of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, Operation Vanguard, Operation Halt, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), and the Responsible Community Mining Scheme.

However, he admitted that the persistence of illegal mining pointed to deeper governance and institutional challenges.

Participants examined how illegal small-scale mining had become a magnet for both local and foreign actors, driven by lucrative returns and weak enforcement mechanisms.

The practice continues to undermine national security and development due to its links with organized criminality, corruption, and illicit financing.

Experts at the seminar interrogate several key issues, including the true extent of illegal mining, its existential threat to the nation, the effectiveness of response mechanisms, and reasons behind the limited success of past interventions.

Discussions also focused on identifying realistic, actionable measures that could galvanize cooperation between state and non-state actors to stem the tide.

Air Commodore Akrong reiterated that as a Centre of Excellence in research, training, and policy dialogue, the KAIPTC remained committed to providing an open and trusted platform for constructive engagement on national and regional security challenges.

He expressed optimism that the deliberations would “generate actionable insights that contribute meaningfully to the fight against illegal mining.”

The seminar formed part of KAIPTC’s ongoing “Reflections on Security Series,” a platform designed to promote open and evidence-based discussions on complex national and regional security challenges.

It brought together stakeholders from academia, civil society, the media, the security services, the extractive sector, and traditional authorities.

Ghana Water Limited temporarily shuts down Teshie-Nungua desalination plant

The desalination plant has been a vital source of potable water The desalination plant has been a vital source of potable water

The Management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced the temporary shutdown of the Teshie-Nungua desalination plant, citing unresolved contractual issues and the prolonged lack of critical maintenance as the main reasons behind the decision.

According to the company, the move has become necessary to safeguard the integrity of its operations and ensure the long-term delivery of safe and quality water to consumers.

“This decision was not taken lightly. It follows extensive reviews and stakeholder consultations aimed at finding a sustainable path forward,” GWL explained in a statement.

The desalination plant has, over the years, been a vital source of potable water to several communities including Teshie, Nungua, Spintex, parts of Sakumono, La, and surrounding areas along the eastern coastal corridor of Accra.

Its shutdown is therefore expected to temporarily affect water supply to these areas.

In the interim, GWL says it has put in place alternative measures to reduce the impact on customers.

“We have begun rerouting water from other treatment plants and prioritizing essential facilities such as hospitals, schools, and health centres,” the statement added.

Stanley Martey, Chief Manager for Public Relations and Communications at GWL, expressed the company’s regret over the inconvenience caused.

“We sincerely apologise to our cherished customers for any disruption this may cause. We are working around the clock to resolve the issues and restore full operations as soon as possible,” he assured.

Martey further emphasized that management is committed to transparency and will keep the public informed at every stage of the process.

“Regular updates will be shared through our official website, social media platforms, the media, and community engagement representatives,” he noted.

GWL reaffirmed its dedication to delivering safe, reliable, and continuous water supply services nationwide, adding that management remains hopeful that the ongoing engagements will lead to a swift resolution and full restoration of operations at the Teshie-Nungua Desalination Plant.

Ghanaian singer and TV personality, Akosua Agyapong, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a strong and inspiring woman who empowered many through her work and passion for the arts.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 on October 27, 2025, Akosua Agyapong recounted her fond memories with the former First Lady.

“In 1997, we met during the inauguration of the president. I was even pregnant by then, carrying my 2nd boy, and then I trained 60 children from 7 grades. The late Ebony was part of the children I trained during the inauguration,” she said.

Akosua Agyapong expressed shock upon hearing of Nana Konadu’s death, explaining that she had hoped to meet her at a friend’s engagement just a few days earlier.

“I was surprised when I heard the news because last week Thursday, I was supposed to have met her at a friend’s engagement. She went but I couldn’t because I was in Koforidua. So I went there on Sunday and I was told that she was around and she danced. She loved dancing and she was a very strong woman” she stated.

The veteran musician praised Nana Konadu’s legacy, particularly her role in advocating for women through the 31st December Women’s Movement, which she described as a ground-breaking initiative that changed the lives of many Ghanaian women.

“We’ve lost a great woman, a woman who actually made women strong. She came up with the 31st December women’s movement and that was something else for women. We really going to miss her and may her soul rest in peace” she shared.

She also highlighted the late First Lady’s love for the creative arts, noting that she often supported entertainment events whenever she was available.

“She loved the creative arts, everything entertainment and showbiz. When she’s invited to a program and she’s available, she would always show up.”

Court rescinds arrest for Chairman Wontumi

Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP

The High Court in Accra has rescinded the arrest warrant for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, who is being prosecuted by the state for allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities (galamsey).

The warrant was issued after Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, reportedly absented himself from court proceedings without the appropriate permission on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

The sitting judge, Justice Audrey Kocuvi-Tay, adjourned the case after issuing the warrant.

According to a report by TV3, minutes after the adjournment of the case, Wontumi and his lawyer filed an application to be re-heard in the court.

His lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, told the court that they were not present in court because they were not informed of the time the trial was expected to start.

He told the court that they thought the case was going to start at 10:00am, but it started at 9:00am.

The judge stated that even though the time for Tuesday’s trial was not advertised, he expected Wontumi and his lawyer to be in court at 9:00am, because that is the time the court sitting starts.

Wontumi granted GH¢15m bail, case adjourned to October 28

The judge went on to rescind the warrant for Wontumi because his absence was due to the lack of proper communication of the time he was expected to be in court.

At an earlier sitting on October 7, 2025, Wontumi was granted bail in the sum of GH¢15 million with three sureties by the High Court in Accra.

Two of the sureties were to be justified with landed properties within the court’s jurisdiction, while the court also directed Wontumi to deposit his passport with the registrar.

His name was to be placed on a stop list at all entry points to prevent him from leaving the country.

The sureties were further required to submit copies of their Ghana Cards and digital addresses to the court registrar.

Presiding Judge Justice Audrey Kocuvi-Tay ordered that Wontumi report to the investigator on the first and third Monday of every month.

Chairman Wontumi, together with Akonta Mining Company Limited, pleaded not guilty to charges related to illegal mining, otherwise known as galamsey, in the Western Region.

The charges stem from alleged unauthorised mining operations at Samreboi in the Western Region, invoking key provisions of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), as amended by the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act, 2019 (Act 995).

According to the charge sheet, Wontumi and the other accused persons face three counts of assigning mineral rights without the necessary approval and three counts of facilitating an unlicensed mining operation.

Some NPP Ashanti youth organisers, deputies accuse Dr. Bryan Acheampong of smear campaign against Dr. Bawumia

0

A group of 62 current and 34 former Youth Organizers and their deputies of the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti region have come together to express their collective displeasure over what they claim is a deliberate attempt by Dr. Bryan Acheampong to smear the candidacy of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with lies and unfair accusations.

According to the group, Dr. Acheampong, in his campaign for the party’s flagbearership in Ashanti Region, consistently accused the former Vice President of the party’s defeat.

However, the group believes that Dr. Acheampong’s actions and inactions were major contributors to the party’s electoral misfortune, which he refuses to accept.

Speaking at a press conference, spokesperson of the group, Bright Nyampong stated that Dr. Acheampong’s attempt to purchase SSNIT Hotels and his performance as Agriculture Minister were major reasons for the party’s defeat in the 2024 General Elections.

The group further indicated that Dr. Acheampong’s utterances during the campaign period were a significant contributory factor to the party’s loss.

They claimed that the aspirant has shown undemocratic tendencies, which could affect the party’s fortunes if elected as flagbearer.

The group has further endorsed the candidature of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumiah.

Below is the press release.

Paul Afoko announces comeback bid for NPP National Chairmanship

0

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has officially declared his intention to contest for the party’s National Chairmanship position in the upcoming national officers’ election.

In a statement titled “Declaration of Intention to Contest the National Chairmanship Position of the New Patriotic Party,” Mr. Afoko said his decision follows extensive reflection and encouragement from party members and stakeholders who are calling for renewed leadership within the NPP.

“After extensive reflection and encouragement from many well-meaning members, supporters, and stakeholders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), I am honoured to formally announce my intention to contest for the position of National Chairman in the upcoming election of national officers,” he stated.

He explained that his decision was motivated by a desire to return the NPP to its founding values and democratic principles.

“This decision has not been taken lightly. It comes after careful consideration and in response to the consistent calls for renewed leadership rooted in the founding values and democratic ideals of our Party,” he said.

Mr. Afoko reaffirmed his loyalty to the NPP despite past challenges and said his focus remains on rebuilding and strengthening the party.

“While the journey has not been without its trials, I have always chosen to prioritise the unity and progress of the NPP above all else. My focus now, as it has always been, is on the future — one where our Party stands re-energised, inclusive, and better positioned to deliver on its promise to the Ghanaian people.”

He added that in the coming weeks, he will engage with party faithful and the media to outline his vision and leadership plans.

“In the coming weeks, I will engage more broadly with Party faithful and the media to share my vision, ideas, and plans to lead the NPP with integrity, transparency, and a renewed sense of purpose. Let us look ahead together.”

Paul Afoko was suspended in 2015 as the NPP’s National Chairman following a decision by the party’s National Executive Committee at an emergency meeting held at the party headquarters in Accra.

The suspension followed a recommendation from the NPP’s Disciplinary Committee after the Council of Elders, in a seven-page petition, called for disciplinary action against him.

Mr. Afoko was accused by some party members of working against the then-flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo’s chances ahead of the 2016 general elections.

He reportedly failed to honour multiple invitations from the Disciplinary Committee before the recommendation for his suspension was made.

‘The 2nd coming’: Paul Afoko declares intention to contest NPP National Chairmanship

0

Former National Chairman Awentami Paul Afoko has formally announced his intention to contest for the NPP’s top executive position for a second stint in the upcoming national officers’ election.

The declaration, delivered via a brief statement today (Tuesday, October 28), marks a significant step toward a political comeback for the veteran politician, whose tenure was dramatically cut short by a controversial suspension nearly a decade ago.

Mr. Afoko stated his decision followed “extensive reflection and encouragement from many well-meaning members, supporters, and stakeholders of the New Patriotic Party.”

The Historical Context: Tenure and Suspension

Mr. Afoko’s return to the electoral fray reintroduces one of the most turbulent periods in the NPP’s recent history into the national discourse.

  • Historic Victory (2014): Paul Afoko achieved a historic win on April 12, 2014, at a party congress in Tamale, becoming the first person of Northern Ghanaian extraction (a Builsa from the Upper East Region) to occupy the National Chairmanship post. He secured a decisive majority, polling 2,034 votes against his closest rival, Stephen Ntim, who garnered 1,503 votes, a margin of 531 votes.
  • Reformist Agenda: During his short-lived tenure, Afoko pursued a reformist agenda focused on strengthening grassroots structures. He famously implemented a financial initiative where he ‘pushed 10,000 cedis’ into every single constituency to ensure they opened and maintained bank accounts, a measure he insisted on to modernise party operations and ensure transparency, despite facing strong internal opposition.
  • Controversial Suspension (2015): His chairmanship was marred by severe factional conflicts and allegations of undermining the then-flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo. The internal conflict culminated in his indefinite suspension in 2015 by the party’s disciplinary committee. This action, alongside the suspension of General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong and Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe at the time, plunged the party into a deep constitutional crisis that was ultimately contested in court.

Afoko’s Stance and Future Vision

Afoko’s announcement is framed around the need for “renewed leadership rooted in the founding values and democratic ideals” of the NPP.

He acknowledged the personal difficulties he endured, noting that the journey “has not been without its trials,” but stressed that he has “always chosen to prioritise the unity and progress of the NPP.”

His core platform, which he promises to detail in the coming weeks, is centred on:

  1. Rebuilding and Strengthening: A commitment to re-energizing the party structure.
  2. Inclusivity: Ensuring the party is broad-based and representative of all stakeholders.
  3. Integrity and Transparency: Leading the party with accountability and a clear sense of purpose.

Political and Legal Significance

The bid for the chairmanship places Afoko in direct confrontation with the current party leadership and structure that oversaw his removal.

His return signifies a persistent belief that his suspension—which he disputed as both legally and constitutionally flawed—was unjust.

While recent reports suggested Mr. Afoko was disillusioned with active politics, having described his experience as a “thankless job” after his legal challenges against the suspension were dismissed, his declaration signals a change of heart, driven by a desire to fulfil his mandate to reform the party’s institutional framework.

Security forces storm Panbros Salt to help Chinese national claim disputed land

0

Armed national security officers and police have stormed Panbros Salt Industries Limited to assist in the seizure of a portion of the company’s salt pans.

The land in dispute is reportedly being claimed by a Chinese investor who intends to convert the area into a real estate development.

The contested portion of the salt pans is located within the Weija Ramsar site, a government-protected wetland area.

The move has sparked concerns over environmental preservation and the legality of converting the ecologically sensitive land into commercial property.

Authorities are currently on-site to ensure that the seizure is carried out without incident, while the matter remains under investigation.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, arrived in court with his lawyer, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, moments after the Accra High Court issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

In a video shared by 1957 News and seen by GhanaWeb on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Chairman Wontumi, appearing in high spirits and in a calm demeanor, was seen entering the court building.

He was also accompanied by Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA.

BREAKING: High Court issues bench warrant for Wontumi’s arrest for failing to appear in court

The warrant was issued against Wontumi for reportedly failing to appear in court without the appropriate permission.

He is facing criminal charges related to illegal mining, otherwise known as galamsey, in the Western Region.

At an earlier sitting on October 7, 2025, Wontumi was granted bail in the sum of GH¢15 million with three sureties by the High Court in Accra.

Two of the sureties were to be justified with landed properties within the court’s jurisdiction, while the court has also directed Wontumi to deposit his passport with the registrar.

My client will be dutiful and cooperative – Andy Appiah-Kubi on Akonta Mining probe

Saddick Adams shares shocking experiences from his visit to Singapore

0

Saddick Adams is a veteran sports journalist play videoSaddick Adams is a veteran sports journalist

Sports journalist Saddick Adams has shared some remarkable observations from his recent visit to Singapore.

He revealed that one of the most striking things he noticed was the presence of elderly people working in restaurants, unlike in Ghana, where such roles are typically filled by younger individuals.

The 2021 Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Sports Journalist of the Year also noted that Singapore’s airport relies heavily on technology, rather than security personnel such as immigration officers, as is common in Ghana.

$20,000 Salary: Details emerge on Albert Amoah’s lucrative move to Al Ahly Benghazi

“The restaurants had men and women over 60 years old working as waiters and waitresses. It’s part of their culture, and people find it admirable. It also gives older individuals the opportunity to stay active and fit. The average life expectancy is around 84 to 85 years, and some live beyond 90. I also observed that their fertility rate is quite low, 0.97 compared to Ghana’s 4.

“I was told this is influenced by their career focus and upbringing. Their airport is one of the largest and most efficient in the world. Passports are checked by machines, unlike in Ghana where immigration officers handle that,” he said in Twi while speaking on Angel FM.

Saddick Adams further disclosed that most residents use trains for their daily transportation, which has significantly reduced traffic congestion on the streets.

“The streets leading to the airport are empty, so there’s no traffic. I asked where all the people were, and I was told they’re underground. The entire country has a mapped-out train system beneath it. People take trains to shopping malls, schools, zoos, gardens everywhere,” he added.

South Africans stranded after scam centre escape

South Africans rescued from an infamous scam centre in Myanmar South Africans rescued from an infamous scam centre in Myanmar

South Africans rescued from an infamous scam centre in Myanmar should be brought home as soon as possible to avoid trouble, according to Willem Els of the Institute for Security Studies.

He was commenting after it transpired that about 50 South Africans, who were part of a group of people rescued from the scammers’ compounds last week, were stranded.

Some are struggling to cross the border from Myanmar to Thailand, as there is a civil war in Myanmar.

Rescued South Africans remain stranded in Myanmar-Thai border areas

It is alleged that criminal syndicates are trafficking people to use in illegal scam operations and related activities.

Last week, a group of hostages rescued by Myanmar soldiers, who later allegedly demanded ransom to release them, overpowered the soldiers and escaped.

“Some South Africans are at the border trying to cross into Thailand. Some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are trying to assist, but there’s a lot of hardship, a lot of uncertainty, a lot of fear among victims.

“Once they are back in Thailand it will be easy to get them back to South Africa.

“These people are vulnerable and they are being exploited by everyone.

“The situation is bad; there are also people from other countries being affected by this,” said Els.

‘The situation is bad’

“They lure them there with lucrative job offers and money. Then, when they reach Thailand, the passports are confiscated and they are ferried across the border or smuggled to Myanmar.

“They actually take them to the occupied areas – because there’s a civil war going on – where the Chinese triads have big compounds,” said Els.

He said South Africa’s department of international relations and cooperation was not doing enough to assist them.

One of the NGOs assisting in the area is the South African-based Brave to Love, which confirmed that 41 South African citizens have asked for emergency assistance after being trafficked to Southeast Asia under false employment promises.

“Recruited for purported job opportunities in Thailand, they were instead forcibly transported across the border into conflict-affected Myanmar and held inside the KK Park scamming compound, a location notorious for severe human trafficking operations.

“Last Wednesday, a group of four South African men, who had been isolated from the others, gathered near the compound’s main gate under the surveillance of armed Myanmar military.

Escaping scam compounds

“Their prayer gathering grew rapidly as victims from the Philippines, Kenya and other nations joined in to pray for freedom,” said Brave to Love spokesperson Emma van der Walt.

“Demonstrating immense courage, the group collectively overpowered the guards and breached the compound gate.

“About 1 000 individuals escaped into the streets during this extraordinary mass breakout.

“A smaller group of South Africans was subsequently held hostage by corrupt military officials at a residence near the compound.

“After ransom payments, with assistance from NGOs, they were released to Myanmar police and immigration authorities.”

NGOs call for urgent repatriation

Van der Walt urged the department to expedite repatriation and emergency travel arrangements for South African victims.

Department spokesperson Chrispin Phiri did not responded to questions sent to him.

Lawyers for Akosua Serwaa, Odo Broni arrive in court for day two

0

Counsels for the two widows of the late Highlife icon Daddy Lumba have been spotted arriving at the Kumasi High Court for the second day of court proceedings.

The legal dispute is between Akosua Serwaa, the legally married wife of Daddy Lumba, and Priscilla “Odo Broni” Ofori, each claiming rights to the legacy of the late highlife legend.

The parties first clashed in court on October 16, 2025, but the case was adjourned after the defence challenged Akosua Serwaa’s legal capacity.

Videos making waves across social media showed the counsel for Akosua Serwaa holding documents and speaking quietly with his client as they made their way to court. Evangelist Papa Shee and Ernestina Fosu, sister of Daddy Lumba, were also spotted arriving at the premises.

On the opposite side, counsel for Odo Broni and defendants, including Lumba’s family head, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, also made their entrance.

What’s Being Argued?

1. Legal Standing of Akosua Serwaa

The main preliminary issue before the court is whether Akosua Serwaa has the legal capacity (standing) to bring claims as the lawful wife. One of the defendants has filed a motion challenging her role, arguing that certain events may have nullified her claim.

The judge, Her Ladyship Dorinda Smith Arthur, had previously held off on ruling on that objection until all sides were heard.

2. Injunction Over Funeral Arrangements

Serwaa’s team is pressing for an injunction to restrain Odo Broni, the family head, and funeral planners from proceeding with rites or decisions that exclude her. She contends that she was sidelined in the funeral planning and asserts she is the only legally recognised spouse.

Daddy Lumba’s funeral rites are scheduled for December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, although the final plan may depend on today’s outcome.

Voices from well-wishers and colleagues had previously encouraged the parties to explore alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including settlement, as a pathway to avoid further public spectacle.

Who leads the NDC? Top 6 candidates who could retain the party in power in 2028

0

Top 6 candidates who can retain the party in power in 2028

As the National Democratic Congress (NDC) settles back into governance following its 2024 electoral victory, attention is gradually shifting to the party’s next chapter.

With President John Dramani Mahama beginning his constitutionally final term, conversations within party ranks and among analysts are increasingly focused on succession. Who will lead the NDC into the 2028 general elections?

Recent opinion polls and political analyses have identified several leading figures whose candidacy could reinforce the NDC’s electoral strength and shape the party’s post-Mahama era.

Haruna Iddrisu

Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has emerged as the clear favourite to lead the NDC into 2028. A September 2025 Global InfoAnalytics poll placed him ahead with 30% support among potential candidates, rising to 33% in October, solidifying his position as the frontrunner.

Haruna’s appeal is rooted in his regional representation and political record. As the leading contender from the northern regions, his candidacy fits the NDC’s longstanding tradition of regional balance. His years as Minority Leader before the 2024 elections demonstrated not only political skill but also his ability to unite diverse party factions and hold government accountable.

Poll data further shows Iddrisu’s strong support across swing regions, where he commands nearly 48% backing. Among younger party members, his appeal widens, with as much as 45% favouring him when other candidates are excluded. These figures suggest he is viewed as both a bridge between generations and a symbol of continuity.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah

National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, affectionately known as “General Mosquito”, occupies a unique space in the NDC succession race. He consistently ranks among the top three preferred successors, polling between 24% and 26% among party members and voters.

Asiedu Nketiah’s strength lies in his organisational skills and deep grassroots connection. Having kept the NDC united during its opposition years and masterminded the 2024 victory, he commands deep respect across the political spectrum. His decades of service have earned him recognition as one of Ghana’s most experienced political tacticians.

Coming from the Bono Region, his candidacy would also enhance the NDC’s geographical diversity. Importantly, a September 2025 Global InfoAnalytics survey found that in a hypothetical face-off with the NPP’s Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Asiedu Nketiah would win with 50% against 45%, proving his broad national appeal.

In polling scenarios excluding Haruna Iddrisu, Asiedu Nketiah often emerges as the leading candidate with about 40% support. This positions him as the party’s unifying figure and a dependable alternative should internal consensus shift.

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson

Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has steadily risen as one of the NDC’s strongest new-generation contenders. Regularly polling in third place with support ranging between 12% and 22%, Ato Forson’s growing popularity is tied to his technocratic expertise and youth appeal.

His economic credentials are his greatest asset. As the Finance Minister steering Ghana’s post-election recovery, he is well-positioned to demonstrate competence in the area voters prioritise most, which is economic management. He also enjoys remarkable support in swing regions, outperforming other contenders when Haruna Iddrisu is excluded from surveys.

Representing a younger generation of NDC leadership, Ato Forson blends technical knowledge with political experience. His tenure as both Minority Leader and Deputy Finance Minister underscores his exposure to legislative and executive governance.

In internal party polling, a tight race often emerges between Asiedu Nketiah and Ato Forson when Haruna Iddrisu is not included, reflecting his growing influence among younger delegates and policy-oriented voters.

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang made history in January 2025 as Ghana’s first female Vice President, placing her at the heart of succession conversations. Her potential candidacy would mark another groundbreaking moment in Ghana’s political evolution.

An April 2025 Global InfoAnalytics poll once had her leading the pack with between 26% and 33% support. However, her numbers have fluctuated in more recent polls, with analysts citing age considerations, as she would be 68 in 2028, and health concerns following a brief illness in 2025.

Her strengths remain formidable. A respected academic and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang combines intellectual gravitas with public service experience, having served as Education Minister between 2013 and 2017. Her long-standing visibility as a two-time running mate and now Vice President gives her unmatched national recognition.

Her role as Vice President provides an exceptional platform to demonstrate executive competence. Whether she chooses to contest or play a kingmaker role, her presence will shape the NDC’s leadership transition and gender inclusivity narrative.

Julius Debrah

Chief of Staff remains one of the most intriguing figures in the succession discussion. Though usually polling in the single digits or low teens, between 6% and 11%, his influence within the party is considerable.

Having served as Chief of Staff under President Mahama from 2014 to 2017 and again in 2025, Debrah’s deep understanding of governance and political coordination stands out. His administrative discipline and low-key leadership style make him an appealing figure for those who prioritise stability and competence over flamboyance.

In three-way polling scenarios, Debrah often attracts between 14% and 22% of support, particularly when major contenders are excluded. This suggests a loyal, if modest, base that could expand if internal divisions arise. Many within the party see him as a potential consensus candidate capable of maintaining institutional continuity.

Prof. Joshua Alabi

Vice Chairman of the NDC and 2024 Campaign Manager for President Mahama, Professor Joshua Alabi represents the party’s intellectual and managerial wing. A Russia-trained economist and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Alabi transformed the institution into one of Africa’s fastest-growing universities, earning him the Order of the Volta.

His political career is equally rich, spanning legislative and executive roles. He served as MP for Krowor from 1997 to 2001, Minister of State for both the Greater Accra and Northern Regions, and as NDC Greater Accra Regional Chairman. His role as campaign manager during the 2020 and 2024 elections highlights his enduring strategic importance.

Although polling modestly, Alabi’s organisational and governance record gives him credibility among party elders. His service on boards such as SSNIT, HFC Bank and currently Board Chairman of GCB Bank PLC also demonstrates his administrative depth, making him a figure of respect even if not currently a frontrunner.

Party Dynamics and Strategic Considerations

A recurring theme in the NDC’s internal succession debate is the balance between experience and generational renewal. Surveys indicate that about 64% of NDC supporters, including many who backed President Mahama, now favour younger candidates.

This generational shift is reflected in the rising popularity of Haruna Iddrisu, Ato Forson, and other younger leaders such as Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Together, their support accounts for roughly 65% of Mahama’s 2024 voter base, signalling a strong appetite for new leadership energy.

However, experience still matters. Figures such as Asiedu Nketiah, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and Joshua Alabi embody institutional knowledge, historical continuity, and strategic depth, which are essential traits for maintaining internal cohesion and governance stability.

Conclusion

As of late 2025, the NDC succession race remains fluid but clearly defined by three leading tiers. Haruna Iddrisu stands as the dominant frontrunner with wide cross-regional and generational appeal. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah follows as a unifying elder statesman with organisational mastery and broad national respect. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson represents the party’s new technocratic and youthful front.

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang carries historic symbolism as Ghana’s first female Vice President but faces questions of succession timing. Julius Debrah remains a competent insider with strong administrative credentials, while Prof. Joshua Alabi embodies intellectual authority and party loyalty.

The next three years will be decisive. Performance in government, grassroots engagement, and the ability to project a clear vision for Ghana’s next chapter will determine who ultimately emerges as the NDC’s standard-bearer in 2028 and possibly Ghana’s next President.

MzGee Supports Haruna’s ‘No Long Hair’ Order

0

MzGee

Entertainment Broadcaster, MzGee, known in real life as Gloria Akpene Nyarku, has applauded the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu over his comment on enforcing that all Senior High School (SHS) students keep low haircuts.

Over the week, Haruna Iddrisu weighed in on the debate about hairstyles in Senior High Schools.

According to him, students won’t be allowed to wear long hair in school, as it might distract them from learning and affect character development. Mr. Iddrisu emphasised that schools are meant for molding character, not hosting beauty contests.

He warned that if students are allowed to wear long hair, it could lead to other demands, such as changes in dress code or footwear.

Mr. Iddrisu’s comments come after a viral video showed a student crying while getting her hair cut before starting SHS, sparking a heated debate about school grooming rules and personal expression.

Excerpt of the video of the minister addressing the matter was shared by MzGee on Instagram under the caption, “Case closed!!! Simply put, if you can’t adhere to the rules of the system, find a system that adhere to yours! Thank you, Mr. Minister! We have bigger challenges with our Senior High School Education and I trust you will find ways to IMPROVE majority of them if not all, Sir!”

Social media users have been divided over Haruna Iddrisu’s comments on the SHS hairstyles. Many have expressed disagreement with his stance, arguing that, the minister’s comments are restrictive and outdated, stifling personal expression and individuality.

Some users pointed out that there are more pressing issues in Ghana’s education system that need attention, rather than focusing on hairstyles, while others questioned the minister’s priorities, highlighting the need for better infrastructure, qualified teachers, and improved learning conditions in schools.

‘I can’t publicly campaign for anyone — Afenyo-Markin

0

Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, says he will remain neutral in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary, stressing that his position requires him to act as a unifying figure rather than openly campaign for any candidate.

Speaking on Joy News on Monday, October 27, Afenyo-Markin said that while many of his colleagues have declared support for various aspirants, he believes his leadership role within the party demands restraint and impartiality.

“For me as a leader, I cannot publicly say I am going to campaign for this person,” he stated. “I don’t have to, because of where I sit… I cannot publicly—but privately, can you stay there? I cannot publicly. I have a role to play in the aftermath of January 31st.”

He explained that revealing his preference could compromise his credibility in helping to unify the party after the internal contest.

“If I would have to play that role, show my hand openly, it would be difficult to be trusted when I am doing that midnight walking. So I think it’s appropriate to stay that way,” he said.

The Effutu MP, however, commended Members of Parliament who have openly declared their support for one candidate or another, describing their conduct as decent and responsible.

“I think so far, the MPs who have declared in one way or the other have been decent. Initially, my concern was how those who will declare openly will manage themselves,” he said.

He reiterated his earlier call for neutrality among MPs to maintain harmony within the party, noting that internal contests should not create divisions.

“You remember that I came to say let’s be very neutral… To make yourself a credible referee who would be trusted by various factions, it is better for you to stay neutral—at least not openly declare,” he explained.

Afenyo-Markin added that while some colleagues disagreed with his stance, he respects their decision to express support as long as they do so respectfully.

The Minority Leader’s comments come as the NPP gears up for its presidential primary, which is expected to be a decisive moment in shaping the party’s future leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.

‘Attorney General’s place is in the court’

0

Afenyo Ayine
Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin has blasted Dr Dominic Ayine over his press briefings

The Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has slammed the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, and his deputy, Dr Justice Srem Sai, over their public pronouncements on criminal cases they are prosecuting.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on Monday, November 27, 2025, Afenyo-Markin claimed that the Attorney General has resorted to PR gimmicks to win favour for his government.

He asserted that the Attorney General should be going to court to prosecute the cases he is handling against officials of the erstwhile Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government and refrain from the press conferences he has been holding.

“When they are hot, they only come and then announce a so-called corruption they are investigating somewhere. That’s their playbook. Now, anytime the government is under pressure, the Attorney General would do a press conference. The Attorney General’s place is in the court.

“My respected friend, the MP, who is the Attorney General, and his deputy, I want them to know that their place is in the court,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, debunked the assertion that the media engagements by the Attorney General are to ensure accountability in the state’s prosecutions.

The Minority Leader also claimed that the Attorney General has resorted to PR gimmicks because, perhaps, he is waiting for the appointment of the Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, as the substantive Chief Justice.

“Perhaps, they are waiting for Baffoe-Bonnie to become Chief Justice, so that they control the court, which I wonder how they are going to achieve… Well, they’ve said so; at least we hear them saying that they want their CJ, and then they can have their preferred judges. That’s what they are saying. But we wait to see. We wait to see.

“That is why they prefer to be in the media to talk about people’s guilt, but it is not in their place to pronounce guilt. The rule of law requires that you go to court and make your case,” he reiterated.

Cabinet’s policy directive unnecessary if… – NAGRAT President

0

President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu, has criticised the recent Cabinet directive cautioning ministers against making policy announcements without prior approval.

Mr. Carbonu has described it as “irresponsible and unnecessary” if it was issued in response to remarks by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu.

The Education Minister recently instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to enforce the compulsory use of Ghanaian languages as the medium of instruction at the basic level and reiterated that long hair would not be permitted in schools, comments that have sparked mixed reactions from the public.

Following the backlash, the government issued a circular dated October 27, signed by Prof. Kwaku Danso-Boafo, Secretary to Cabinet, reminding ministers that no policy or programme should be publicly announced without Cabinet approval.

The document explained that such actions violate constitutional protocols and the principle of collective responsibility.

However, speaking on Adom FM Burning Issues, Mr. Carbonu said the Education Minister’s comments were not out of place.

He noted that if the Cabinet statement was in reference to Haruna Iddrisu’s directive, then it should not have been made public.

“If indeed the statement by the Cabinet Secretary was about what Haruna Iddrisu said, then it was needless. Cabinet could have simply passed the message privately to ministers instead of making it a public document,” Mr. Carbonu remarked.

He further noted that while the circular did not mention any particular minister, it has fuelled speculation among the public.

“What the minister said is not a new policy; he only reiterated what already exists. I see nothing wrong with his comments,” he added.

On the issue of long hair in schools, the NAGRAT President said there are more pressing concerns regarding indiscipline in the education system that deserve national attention.

He described the ongoing debate over hairstyles as “unnecessary” and urged stakeholders to focus on improving discipline and academic standards instead.

Banks Write Off GH¢1.05bn Bad Loans

0

Johnson Asiama, BoG Governor

Banks operating in the country wrote off GH¢1.05 billion as bad debt within the first eight months of 2025, representing a 46% decline compared to the GH¢1.95 billion recorded over the same period in 2024, according to the Bank of Ghana’s August 2025 Domestic Money Banks Income Statement.

The central bank attributed the improvement to a broad-based strengthening in asset quality across all economic sectors, despite lingering credit risks in the financial system.

The report noted that the decline in bad debts reflects improved loan recovery efforts and better risk management within the banking industry.

During the review period, interest expenses of domestic banks reached GH¢10.11 billion, marking a 20.9% year-on-year increase. This was largely driven by higher deposit rates and funding costs amid a competitive financial environment.

The Non-Performing Loans (NPL) ratio, a key measure of banking sector health, dropped from 24.3% in August 2024 to 20.8% in August 2025, indicating improved loan performance, the central bank said.

According to BoG, when adjusted for fully provisioned loan losses, the ratio improved further, from 10.6% to 6.8%, reflecting a lower proportion of substandard and doubtful loans.

It stated, “The improvement in asset quality was broad-based, with a decrease in non-performing loans in all economic sectors.”

The regulator added that the contraction in the NPL stock, alongside steady loan growth, contributed to the industry’s positive performance.

The total NPL stock fell by 6.1% year-on-year, from GH¢21.1 billion in August 2024 to GH¢19.8 billion by August 2025, it added.

This contraction, the report noted, was supported by increased write-offs and the appreciation of the Ghana cedi, which reduced the domestic value of foreign-currency-denominated bad loans.

Despite the overall improvement, the private sector continued to dominate the NPL portfolio, accounting for 97.4% of total bad loans in August 2025, up from 96.0% a year earlier.

In contrast, the public sector’s share declined to 2.6%, from 4.0% in August 2024.

Ghanaman Soccer Centre Medical Team hosts seminar on Hydration in Sports – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

0

The Medical Team of the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence held an educational seminar on Monday, October 27, 2025, under the theme “Hydration in Sports” for elite U-19 male football players, referees, and technical staff.

The session, which took place at the Centre’s Conference Hall from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the vital role hydration plays in performance, endurance, and recovery.

Led by Dr Derrick Ofosu Bioh and Dr Christiana Baah, with support from medical officers Augustine Obeng, Abubakari Rabiatu, and Emmanuel Nartey, the seminar stressed that proper hydration goes beyond drinking water; it is about maintaining peak performance and preventing fatigue or injury.

Dr Bioh explained that hydration supports muscle function, regulates body temperature, and enhances recovery, warning that even a two-percent fluid loss can impair concentration and stamina.

Dr Baah urged players to stay hydrated before, during, and after games, and recommended monitoring urine color as a simple guide while discouraging excessive intake of energy or caffeinated drinks.

Bryan Acheampong’s Momentum Surges – Poll

0

Dr. Bryan Acheampong

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race is heating up fast, and new regional analysis from pollster Mussa Dankwah suggests that Dr. Bryan Acheampong is rapidly emerging as the disruptive force reshaping the contest.

While Greater Accra remains a competitive zone for all three frontrunners—Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (DMB), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong (KOA), and Dr. Bryan Acheampong (DBA)—it is in Ashanti and Eastern regions that Mr. Acheampong’s influence is becoming most visible.

In Ashanti, the traditional heartbeat of NPP politics, Acheampong has made significant inroads, winning admiration for his calm leadership style and strategic clarity.

Dankwah’s analysis shows that in Ashanti, widely regarded as the political heartbeat of the NPP, Bryan Acheampong has significantly eroded Kennedy Agyapong’s support base, tilting momentum in his own favour.

His disciplined and data-driven campaign, built on the themes of unity, accountability, and service, is winning grassroots admiration and shifting long-standing loyalties.

In Eastern Region—home to Acheampong’s Abetifi Constituency—his dominance is even more pronounced. Once considered a stronghold for the Vice President, the region is now witnessing a groundswell of support for Dr. Acheampong, driven by his consistent engagement, proven track record, and reputation for results.

His blend of political experience, business acumen, and philanthropic impact is striking a chord with voters seeking substance over slogans.

Dankwah notes that while Dr. Bawumia maintains a broad national footprint, Dr. Acheampong’s focused strategy in Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Eastern is yielding tangible results. “Bryan Acheampong is hurting both DMB and KOA, especially in Ashanti and Eastern,” he stated. “His pace, precision, and grassroots connection make him the candidate to watch as the race widens.”

With his campaign tour of three key regions, analysts believe Dr. Acheampong’s next moves—especially in the remaining swing areas—could further tilt the scales and position him as a formidable contender with national appeal.

System Shutdown Triggers Frustration In Hospitals

0

Many public health facilities have been compelled to cope with the fallouts from a software shutdown.

The previous days of physical folders have returned with patients clutching exercise books which contain their medical records.

The frustration being endured by both patients and medical personnel as a result of the challenge is evident.

At the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, management has directed personnel of all departments to prepare for the adoption of an independent Information Technical system to replace the shutdown of the Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS). Until then, however, the challenges posed by the LHIMS shutdown persists.

Reports from the Ashanti Region indicate that doctors and nurses have returned to taking medical records in folders and exercise books after the electronic health platform for taking medical history shutdown for the past week, a situation which is delaying medical care delivery, thereby putting patients’ lives on the line as health workers compulsorily resort to the manual system.

The LHIMS is a web-based software platform which supports healthcare delivery and administrative functions.

Over the course of the week, major public health facilities have witnessed long, winding queues of patients seeking critical care after a digital platform for taking medical records broke down.

A visit to some health facilities in the Ashanti Region revealed many patients in frustration and anxiety as their lives hung on the thread, according to a JoyFM report.

At the Ejisu Government Hospital, patients were seen wielding folders in a queue to seek medical attention.

Their healthcare officers buried their heads in the folders to write their medical data, process which had been replaced with the information technology-enhanced system.

A disease control officer, whose task includes tracking disease trends, said that “we have not been able to do our work since the shutdown because the data is not being received. The system does not open.”

A frustrated patient said at a health facility, “I came here around 7 a.m. and after waiting in long queues, I have now been served. If I knew this was the situation, I would have gone to a private facility.”

The situation has been similar at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Suntreso Government Hospital, according to a JoyFM report.

Health officers reportedly resorted to writing in exercise books, presenting a physical discomfort to the frontline workers and a financial burden on management.

Some facilities confirm losing medical data records of patients since 2023.

Many of them are now desperately seeking alternatives to ease the burden.

Management of the Manhyia Government Hospital, after enduring a week of the discomforting situation, has found an alternative digital platform which has reportedly reduced the long queues.

Two before court for alleged GH¢45,000 visa fraud

0

Two persons have been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding a trader under the pretext of securing a Canadian visa.

Isaac Abaidoo, a social worker, and Florence Mensah, a trader, have been jointly charged with conspiracy to commit crime in 2023, while Abaidoo faces an additional charge of defrauding by false pretences.

Abaidoo and Mensah are alleged to have collected GH¢45,000 from the complainant, Mavis Tagoe, a trader from Bukom, promising to secure her a Canadian visa but failed to deliver and went into hiding.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Presiding Judge Mrs. Susana Eduful admiited each accused person to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be justified with title deed documents.

Chief Inspector Godwin Wemegah, prosecuting, told the court that Tagoe was introduced to Abaidoo and Mensah by her brother, a witness in the case, after expressing interest in travelling abroad.

The court heard that the accused initially promised to secure a New Zealand work permit visa within a month and collected GH¢30,000, which was handed to Mensah.

Three months later, Abaidoo informed Tagoe of challenges with the New Zealand arrangement and proposed a Canadian visa instead, requesting an additional GH¢15,000.

The prosecution said Mensah assured Tagoe that the Canadian visa would be ready within two months.

After receiving the total amount of GH¢45,000, Abaidoo and Mensah failed to honour their promise and went into hiding.

All efforts to locate them proved futile.

A report was subsequently lodged with the La Police, leading to their arrest.

During investigations, they admitted to the offence.

The family secretary on behalf of Akosua Serwaa and Ernestina Fosuh has confirmed that a formal investigation is underway to determine the cause of the late Highlife legend’s death.

In a statement dated October 27, 2025, and issued by the family secretary on behalf of Daddy Lumba’s wife, Akosua Serwaa, and his elder sister, Ernestina Fosuh, the family disclosed that they are working with the Ghana Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and other relevant authorities to uncover the truth behind the musician’s death.

The statement mentioned that the family’s intention is not to stir controversy but to seek clarity, justice, and the preservation of Daddy Lumba’s legacy.

We received three conflicting accounts about Lumba’s death – Akosua Serwaa alleges

“The family also wishes to reassure the public that a formal investigation is currently ongoing to determine the actual cause of death of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosuh. The family remains committed to uncovering the full truth, in cooperation with the Ghana Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and other relevant authorities.

“As Mrs Fosuh and the entire family have consistently maintained, the goal is not conflict, but clarity, justice, and the preservation of the truth and dignity of their beloved husband, brother, and icon, Daddy Lumba,” the statement read.

Previously, in a petition dated October 13, 2025, and also signed by the family secretary, the two women disclosed that they had received three conflicting accounts regarding what transpired before the legend’s death, one from an eyewitness, another from the police and coroner, and a third from Odo Broni, the woman believed to have been living with Daddy Lumba at the time.

According to them, these inconsistencies have left the family uncertain about the events that led to his passing.

They have since called for a transparent and thorough investigation to ensure that the truth is established and the memory of the late musician is honoured with integrity.
