92.3% of businesses in Ghana remain informal – GSS

0

92.3% of businesses in Ghana remain informal with just 7.7% in the formal sector.

This is according to the Ghana 2024 Integrated Business Establishment Survey by the Ghana Statistical Service.

Government Statistician Professor Samuel Kobina Anim said these informal businesses fail to keep any formal accounts.

“So based on the total number of establishments that we counted, about 92.3% of them are in the informal sector. The definition of informal sector, chair, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, they are not registered and they do not keep any formal accounts. You cannot track them, you cannot follow through them, you cannot give them interventions.”

“Our registrar general department doesn’t have information on them. Even if you have information on them, they do not have the capacity to keep any formal accounts. Chair, the striking message here is that in as much as we know the economy is informal, we have consolidated our informal position”, he said.

The report further revealed that over 1.2 million businesses were established between 2014-2024, with most recording low revenues annually.

Also, one tenth (10.7%) privately-owned establishment in the services sector are formal, which is more than 6.0 percentage points higher than the shares of industry and Agriculture sectors

The Ghana Statistical Service report also shows that at least 55.0% of large-sized and medium-sized privately owned establishments are formal

However, more than three-quarters of privately-owned establishments are in the services sector, with those owned by non-Ghanaians having the highest proportion (86.9%)

Greater Accra has the highest proportion of privately owned establishments operating as formal, about 12.8%.

A review of ‘Where Dem Boyz’; the much-talked-about ‘diss’ song off Black Sherif’s ‘Iron Boy’ album

0

Ghanaian musician Black Sherif Ghanaian musician Black Sherif

Black Sherif’s ‘Where Dem Boyz’ off his 15-track ‘Iron Boy’ album released on April 3, 2025, has been garnering massive attention on social media, with netizens dissecting every detail.

Beyond his artistry and creativity, the song has topped social media trends due to its bold lyrics, which many are interpreting as a jab at certain industry figures.

The song is also seen as a reflection of Black Sherif’s thoughts and a response to various controversies he has been involved in over time.

Analysis of the song:

In the opening verse, which also serves as the hook, Black Sherif calls out industry players who blab, offer suggestions, set standards, and constantly give advice on how they think the industry should thrive, yet fail to live up to the very counsel they preach.

“Where dem boyz, counterfeiting boys, the wannabees and the talking toys, standard raising boyz. Tell’em make them make some noise. Industry employees, I say wassup. Everybody get something. Something to say, suggestions to make. But nobody wanna practice. Practice none of the things they say and preach, I mean it’s easy that way,” he stated in Pidgin and English.

Then he talks about receiving a message from a certain industry figure whom he once respected, inquiring about his well-being.

He expresses regret for initially showing love to this person, calling him a “mess” and accusing him of causing conflict in the industry.

Black Sherif goes on to say he would never aspire to be like the unnamed individual, implying a strong disdain for his behaviour.

“Texti me s3 me ho tes3n? Years ago, I’d be so impressed cause I gave man love and enough respect. But that boy is a mess, he is ganging up and tagging teams. Talking beans and talking on me, with the cowboy from AliExpress. Man to man, you’re standing in stress.

“Tell your boy to keep that verse because we are doing splendid, and not a day in my life was I begging… Dreaming to be like you. God forbid,” Black Sherif raps on.

Black Sherif, in his final verse, touches on how some group of individuals are fond of preaching peace and fairness yet hide to stir up conflict in the industry.

He challenges these group of individuals to “save themselves”.

“Talk is free, it’s sweet and cheaper, than to be a believer. Anka Messiah fa he b3y3 peter. Woakyele wiase wo y3 teacher. They cry over gatekeeping, then grow and do the same. Interview ose unity nso hide behind boys and spread hate. All you spread I heard. Somebody find that boy inhaler,” he stated

“Brother you are well-known master funfooler. We nuh rate your validation if you claim you da saviour save yourself. And it took you so long to take off your santa face,” he switches to patois.

I have not been treated fairly – Former ECG boss laments

0

Samuel Dubik Mahama is a former Managing Director of ECG Samuel Dubik Mahama is a former Managing Director of ECG

Samuel Dubik Mahama, a former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has accused the committee investigating the disappearance of ECG containers at the Tema Port of treating him unfairly.

He condemned the committee for citing him in their report without prior consultation.

Mahama argued that he deserved the right to respond to the allegations leveled against him in the document before any conclusions were drawn.

“I am here primarily to ensure that I am not unfairly judged by the public regarding the issue of the supposedly missing containers. Though I will not speak directly to the claims in the report because I was not consulted by the committee in the first place, I want to declare my innocence in this matter. The committee has not treated me fairly by indicting me in portions of the report without contacting me for my explanation regarding some of the allegations,” he said on TV3’s Ghana Tonight on April 2, 2025.

However, he maintained that he would not immediately respond to the claims made in the document, as he had not been consulted.

Additionally, he urged the Minister of Energy to proceed cautiously in reaching a logical conclusion regarding the alleged missing containers at the Tema Port.

He insisted that the containers could not be missing, as every single one could be traced with due diligence.

“I do not subscribe to the claim that the containers are missing because every container that passes through the port has a unique number. A container can only be cleared after all requirements and documentation have been fulfilled.

“In the case of these ECG containers, there are three possibilities: they could have been misplaced at a terminal, lost at sea, or auctioned. A thorough investigation will lead us to their whereabouts,” he stated.

Mahama also expressed his willingness to cooperate and assist in efforts to locate the missing containers.

“I have not gone anywhere. I am willing and ready to help the minister conduct a forensic audit to locate the containers. They should take their time to reconcile the number of containers imported with those that were either auctioned or cleared,” he said.

21 under 30 join Forbes 2025 list

0

Wealth rating firm Forbes states that most billionaires worldwide fall within the age range of 50 to 79. However, 12% of billionaires are younger than this range, achieving billionaire status by the age of 30.

According to Forbes, 21 individuals made the list of young billionaires in 2025, with 15 of them hailing from Europe.

In this year’s ranking, all but two of these young billionaires inherited their wealth.

The world’s youngest billionaire, Johannes von Baumbach (age 19), is the heir to Germany’s Boehringer Ingelheim, the world’s largest privately owned pharmaceutical company.

Here are the 21 youngest members of the World’s Billionaires list, all aged 30 and under, ranked from youngest to oldest according to Forbes’ 2025 billionaire list.

1. 19-year-old German Johannes von Baumbach with a net worth of $5.4 billion

Johannes is the youngest heir to the German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim. The family is notoriously publicity-shy, and it’s unknown whether he or his three siblings have any role at the company.

The drugmaker has been led by a family member—Johannes’s uncle, Hubertus von Baumbach—since 2015. Johannes skis competitively in Austria.

2. 20-year-old Brazilian Lívia Voigt de Assis with a net worth of $1.2 billion with the source of wealth from Industrial machinery

Voigt is the youngest billionaire heir of WEG cofounder Werner Ricardo Voigt and owns a 3.1% stake in the company, like her sister. She is currently studying psychology at university.

After Forbes named her the world’s youngest billionaire last year, she shared on social media that she wished to avoid attention and would keep a low profile online.

3. 20-year-old Italian Clemente Del Vecchio, who has a net worth of $6.6 billion

Like his siblings, he owes his wealth to his 12.5% ownership of the holding company Delfin, which has a stake in EssilorLuxottica, the eyeglass company behind shade offerers like Arnette, Ray-Ban and Persol.

He has no role at EssilorLuxottica. He and his brother Luca (above) are the two children his late father had with the company’s former head of investor relations, Sabina Grossi.

4. 21-year-old South Korean Kim Jung-youn is in fourth place with a source of wealth from online gaming and a net worth of $1.3 billion

Though she doesn’t have a role in the company, she and her sister hold approximately 9% stakes in the game developer Nexon inherited through their late father. Gamers across 190-plus countries operate Nexon’s slate of over 80 live games, including hits like MapleStory, KartRider and Dungeon & Fighter.

5. 22-year-old German Kevin David Lehmann with a net worth of $3.6 billion with a source of wealth from drugstores

Lehmann inherited his fortune after his father quietly passed him a 50% stake in dm-drogerie markt, Germany’s leading drugstore chain, in 2017, when Lehmann was only 14. His dad first invested in the brand in 1974, shortly after it was founded in 1973; it’s since grown to own some 4,120 stores across Europe. Neither father nor son is involved with the company’s operations.

6.German Franz von Baumbach, 23 years of age, with a net worth of $5.4 billion

Franz is the second-youngest heir to the Ingelheim-based German drugmaker Boehringer Ingelheim. Little is known about him or his siblings.

7. 23-year-old Frenchman Remi Dassault, with a net worth of $2.8 billion

Dassault’s great-grandfather was a Holocaust survivor who invented a propeller used by the French Air Service in World War I and founded the company that would go on to become the aerospace giant Dassault Aviation. Remi owns an estimated 4.1% stake in that business, which he inherited upon his father’s death in 2021, as well as an estimated 2.5% stake in the software firm Dassault Systèmes.

8. 23-year-old South Korean, Kim Jung-min, with a net worth of $1.3 billion

She and her sister inherited approximately 9% stakes in Nexon, a South Korean-Japanese online gaming company, after the 2022 death of their father, company founder Kim Jung-ju. Nexon was a pioneer of the free-to-play gaming model and is also an industry leader of massively multiplayer online role-playing games, or MMORPGs.

9. 23-year-old Italian Luca Del Vecchio with a net worth of $6.6 billion

He and his brother and half-brother are the richest of the 30-and-unders, thanks to their minority stakes in the eyeglasses behemoth EssilorLuxottica. Their family holding entity Delfin also owns stakes in a variety of other companies based in Italy and France, including the bank UniCredit and the insurer Generali. He is not operationally involved with EssilorLuxottica or Delfin.

10. Maxim Tebar of Germany, with a net worth of $1.1 billion, is next on the list

The 24-year-old owes his fortune to a stake in Stihl, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of chainsaws and other handheld power equipment. The company was founded in 1926 by Andreas Stihl, who built the first two-person electric chainsaw. Now, it’s grown to have a presence in over 160 countries, though it remains entirely family-owned.

11. Katharina von Baumbach from Germany with a net worth of $5.4 billion

The 25-year-old Katharina is the third-youngest inheritor of the German drugmaker Boehringer Ingelheim fortune. With three brothers, she’s the only woman among its young heirs.

12. 26-year-old Zahan Mistry from Ireland with a net worth of $4 billion

Mistry’s father’s death left him and his brother (Firoz) with 4.6% stakes in Tata Sons. Now he and Firoz are helping to refinance the debts of the construction company Shapoorji Pallonji Group, in which they inherited 25% ownership.

In March, they secured $3.3 billion in credit for the SP Group from a slate of five private funds, including Ares Management Corp and Davidson Kempner Capital Management.

13. 27 year old German Maximilian von Baumbach is next with a net worth of $5.4 billion

While its heirs rank among the world’s youngest billionaires, the German drugmaker Boehringer Ingelheim is rather ancient—it was founded in 1885, and its entrepreneurial roots stretch back even further, to 1817. The company is behind four of the 30-and-under fortunes on this list; Maximilian is the oldest among them.

14. 27-year-old Brazilian Dora Voigt de Assis with a net worth of $1.2 billion

She and her sister own 3.1% of the Brazilian electrical motor producer WEG, which their late grandfather, Werner Ricardo Voigt, cofounded in 1961. The siblings have no roles at the company, which produces more than 21 million electric motors every year and exports them to more than 135 countries.

15. 28 year old American Alexandr Wang with a net worth of $2 billion

Wang is the world’s youngest self-made billionaire thanks to his artificial intelligence unicorn Scale AI, which raised $1 billion at a $13.8 billion valuation in May. Forbes estimates that he has a 14% stake in the company, which labels the data used to train the AI for large language models (including ChatGPT) and self-driving cars. He cofounded Scale, which now counts Microsoft, General Motors and Meta among its customers, with Lucy Guo in 2016, after dropping out of MIT following his freshman year.

16. 28-year-old Firoz Mistry from Ireland

He and his brother inherited 4.6% stakes in the $165 billion (revenue) Mumbai-based multinational conglomerate, Tata Sons, after their father died in a car accident in 2022. The group, which owns 30 companies spanning everything from cars to jewelry, was founded in 1868 and currently has a presence across six continents and over 100 countries.

17. 28-year-old Alexandra Andresen from Norway with a net worth of $1.9 billion

Andresen sits with her sister on the board of the investment company Ferd, which is based in the Oslo suburb of Bærum, and also owns a 42% stake. She is a three-time junior Norwegian champion in dressage horse riding but no longer competes due to spinal health problems. She’s still heavily involved with horses and both owns and runs the Oslo horse-breeding stable Andresen Dressage.

18. 29-year-old Italian Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio with a net worth of $6.6 billion.

After his father’s death in 2022, Del Vecchio—and each of his six half-siblings and his mother—inherited a 12.5% stake in the family holding company that owns nearly a third of EssilorLuxottica, the world’s largest eyeglasses business. Del Vecchio is EssilorLuxottica’s chief strategy officer as well as the president of the iconic brand Ray-Ban.

19. 29-year-old Ed Craven from Australia with a net worth of $2.8 billion

Craven and Bijan Tehrani cofounded the online casino Stake.com, which managed to generate $4.7 billion last year even though crypto gambling is generally unavailable in the UK, U.S. and parts of Europe. Stake’s popularity has blown up since the pandemic, thanks in part to livestreamers filming themselves gambling on it. Now, the company says it’s involved in some 2% to 4% of all Bitcoin transactions.

20. 29-year-old Katharina Andresen from Norway with a net worth of $2 billion

Andresen’s fortune originally stems from the 150-year-old cigarette empire her father sold in 2005. After the sale, the family refocused on its investment firm, Ferd, which has portfolios in real estate, finance and a variety of private Nordic companies. Like her sister, she owns a 42% stake in Ferd and sits on the board. She’s also a strong supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and is an advisor for Oslo Pride.

21. 30-year-old German Sophie Luise Fielmann with a net worth of $2.8 billion

Sophie and her older brother Marc inherited much of their late father Günther Fielmann’s fortune when he died last year. Fielmann founded Fielmann AG in 1972 with the goal of bringing affordable eyeglasses to Germany. Marc co-led the company with his dad starting in 2018 and fully took over the following year. Sophie owns a third of its stock but has no role at the firm.

The Nigerian firm that sent Rev Osei Kofi to 2010 World Cup

Rev Osei Kofi is a former player of the Black Stars Rev Osei Kofi is a former player of the Black Stars

Two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner and one of Ghana’s legendary footballers, Rev Osei Kofi, led the Black Stars to two AFCON titles during his playing days.

After an illustrious professional career, during which he won multiple accolades and participated in tournaments such as the Olympics, Osei Kofi has been widely celebrated for his achievements.

However, Osei Kofi still harbors disappointment over being overlooked by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) when selecting individuals to attend the Black Stars’ matches at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

It took the intervention of a Nigerian company for him to finally have the opportunity to watch the team he proudly represented.

In an interview with Sporty FM, Osei Kofi shared how he was initially shunned by the GFA but later received an invitation to attend the World Cup after assisting an unknown lady with the history of Ghana-Nigeria football matches.

“Ghana sent a lot of people, but I wasn’t part of it. I was sent to that World Cup in South Africa by a sports management company from Nigeria. A lady came to Ghana, went to the FA, and said she wanted a short history of Ghana and Nigeria football matches. Nyantakyi told her to come to me, and I provided everything the lady asked for,” he explained.

Unbeknownst to Osei Kofi, the woman had already arranged for his trip to the World Cup. He further revealed how the lady had initially kept her plans a secret.

“She said I’d hear from her after three weeks. One morning, she called to congratulate me for being nominated as one of the legends of African football and told me I was going to South Africa to watch the World Cup free of charge,” he added.

Osei Kofi had the privilege of witnessing the Black Stars make history by reaching the World Cup quarter-finals.

However, his joy turned to heartbreak as Ghana suffered a devastating loss to Uruguay, falling just one kick short of becoming the first African team to reach the tournament’s semi-finals.

Ntim Fordjour desperate for political relevance – Larry Dogbe

0

Managing Editor of The Herald newspaper, Larry Dogbey, has slammed the Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, accusing him of making unsubstantiated claims to gain political relevance.

Dogbey’s criticism follows Fordjour’s recent press conference, where he called for full disclosure on an alleged National Security operation involving two suspicious aircraft that landed at Kotoka International Airport in March 2025.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV, Dogbey questioned Fordjour’s credibility and accused him of making reckless statements without verifying facts.

“What I make of Rev Ntim Fordjour in the last few weeks of him becoming the ranking member is somebody who is struggling to be noticed, someone who is struggling to establish himself politically.

“Some of the things he says are very, very outrageous, without cross-checking his facts before putting people on the spot,” Dogbey stated.

Fordjour, alongside the Minority Caucus, has been leading calls for transparency regarding reports of a National Security raid on a warehouse in Sapeiman. The operation allegedly uncovered twelve 20-foot containers filled with gold bars and an unspecified amount of cash.

Additionally, he has demanded an urgent briefing on the cargo carried by two aircraft—AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B—suspected of transporting cocaine and cash into the country.

Despite these claims, Dogbey remains skeptical of Fordjour’s approach, suggesting his recent outbursts are more about political positioning than genuine accountability.

While National Security has yet to respond to the allegations, the reported raid and aircraft continue to spark controversy.

10% tariff on Ghana won’t impact bilateral ties

0

The United States Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Evelyn Palmer, has downplayed concerns over the potential impact of the recently announced 10% tariff on Ghanaian exports, following a broader shift in U.S. trade policy.

The tariff is part of a sweeping set of measures introduced by President Donald Trump, which include a 34% levy on Chinese imports and a 20% tax on goods from the European Union.

These policies have heightened global trade tensions and drawn mixed reactions from world leaders.

Speaking from the Rose Garden, President Trump justified the tariffs as part of a national economic emergency, asserting that they were necessary to protect domestic manufacturing and address what he described as years of unfair economic exploitation.

Despite the growing concerns, Ambassador Palmer sought to reassure Ghanaians about the resilience of the U.S.-Ghana trade relationship, which exceeds $3 billion in bilateral trade and investment.

She expressed confidence that Ghana’s key exports, such as gold and gas, would remain integral to global trade and would not be significantly affected by the new tariffs.

“The life-saving programmes are all to be continued. The new face partnership will maintain all of the life-saving programmes. The US and Ghana have a very warm, close relationship, as you all know, and that is founded on four pillars.

“We have the historical and cultural. Also, more than $3 billion in bilateral trade investment is one of the key pillars. There are also goods and services; gold coming from here, gas coming from here, and we have automobiles and pharmaceuticals coming from the United States.

“So, it is something that builds prosperity in all the countries. It is all to say that no matter what the changes in language and no matter the change in focus, Ghana is really an important part of the United States and we will continue to be so,” she stated.

Palmer’s remarks aim to reinforce the enduring nature of the U.S.-Ghana partnership amid ongoing shifts in global trade policies.

Supreme Court grants NDC, candidates time to respond to EC in election case

0

The Supreme Court has granted leave to the National Democratic Congress (NDC)  and its candidates for Okaikwei North, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South to file a response to the Electoral Commission (EC).

The case stems from a Certiorari application filed by the NDC and its four parliamentary candidates, challenging the EC’s handling of the election results in these constituencies.

Following their application, the High Court in Accra ordered the EC to collate and declare the results.

Since the ruling, the EC has declared results in three of the four constituencies, leaving Ablekuma North as the only one yet to be announced.

Initially, the applicants faced difficulties serving the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates in the case. The Supreme Court later intervened, ordering substituted service to ensure due process.

When the case was called on Thursday, April 3, lawyers for the applicants requested additional time to respond to the EC’s reply to their application.

Representing the EC, lawyer Justin Amenuvor opposed the request, arguing that the legal timeframe for responding seven days after being served had already expired.

Despite the objection, the Supreme Court granted the applicants an additional seven days to file their response, allowing the legal proceedings to continue.

ASEPA petitions President Mahama for removal of Auditor General from office

0

The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to activate the constitutional process under Article 187(13) of the 1992 Constitution for the immediate removal of the Auditor General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, from office.

The petition was filed on the morning of Thursday, April 3, at the Jubilee House in Accra, accusing the Auditor General of high crimes, misconduct, abuse of office, and breaching the constitution.

In a statement accompanying the petition, ASEPA outlined several charges against Mr Asiedu, supported it with what it calls evidence tand submittedhe same to the presidency.

ASEPA stated, “We have presented the evidence that clearly points to these grave accusations against the Auditor General.”

The charges include:

  1. Failing to comply with the directives of the Supreme Court, which constitutes high crime under Article 2(4) of the 1992 Constitution. ASEPA remarked, “His failure to comply with the directives of the Supreme Court cannot be ignored; it is a breach of the Constitution.”
  2. Conniving with the Audit Service Board to usurp the powers of Parliament, in violation of Article 187(15) of the Constitution. ASEPA asserted, “This action directly undermines the authority of Parliament and violates the provisions of the Constitution.”
  3. Unlawful retention of public funds, in contravention of Section 17(2) of the Audit Service Act. ASEPA said, “This unlawful retention of funds is not just a breach of the law, but a betrayal of public trust.”
  4. Abuse of discretionary powers and cover-up, in contravention of Article 296 of the Constitution. ASEPA stressed, “Such abuse of office is unacceptable and cannot go unchecked.”

ASEPA also pointed out that the constitutional process for the removal of the Auditor General under Article 187(13) mirrors the process for the removal of the Chief Justice under Article 146 of the Constitution.

“The same constitutional procedures should apply here to ensure accountability,” ASEPA emphasised.

This petition marks the formal initiation of the removal process, as outlined under Article 187(13) in relation to Article 146.

The petition was signed by ASEPA’s Executive Director, Mr Mensah Thompson, who expressed confidence that the process would be conducted transparently and following the Constitution.

Mr Thompson stated, “We are confident that this process will be handled in a transparent and constitutional manner, ensuring that justice is served.”

Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu had his contract extended by former President Akufo-Addo in June 2024, just when he was due for statutory retirement on August 1, 2024.

He was first appointed to the position by Nana Akufo-Addo in September 2021 as the substantive Auditor-General after he had acted following the controversial retirement of the then Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Yaw Domelevo.

The move follows President John Dramani Mahama’s signing of a new tax bill into law on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, which also scrapped the betting tax and emission tax.

E-Levy abolished, but implementation followed due process

The removal of the E-Levy sparked public inquiries about the implementation timeline. Addressing concerns at MTN House in Accra on April 2, MTN Ghana’s CEO, Stephen Blewett, emphasized that while the government had approved the repeal, telecom operators had to adhere to regulatory procedures before stopping deductions.

“I can’t abolish E-Levy until I’m told to do it. If I do it ahead of time, the Bank of Ghana will catch me. So we have a process that has to be followed, and we will follow that process,” Blewett explained.

He further highlighted that the removal of the E-Levy is expected to revitalize the mobile money sector, which had experienced a slowdown due to the tax. “The reason for the abolishment of E-Levy is to encourage momentum in mobile money,” he noted, adding that digital transactions are likely to increase as a result.

GRA directs charging entities to stop deductions

Following the presidential assent to the Electronic Transfer Levy (Repeal) Bill, 2025, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) issued a directive to all charging entities, instructing them to immediately stop deducting the one per cent levy.

The directive, which took effect on April 2, 2025, ensures that all mobile money transactions are now exempt from the levy. In a statement, the Office of the Commissioner of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division clarified that the Electronic Transfer Levy Management and Assurance System (ELMAS) had been updated to reflect the new policy.

“All charging entities must cease applying the 1% E-Levy from midnight on all their channels,” the statement read.

Additionally, the GRA has instructed all entities to process refunds for any deductions made after the levy was officially abolished. Charging entities must also maintain detailed records of all reimbursements and submit them to the GRA for accountability purposes.

Mahama fulfils campaign pledge to scrap E-Levy

The abolition of the E-Levy, Betting Tax, and Emission Tax marks a major policy shift by President John Dramani Mahama, fulfilling a key campaign promise of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The tax repeal follows the presentation of eight tax-related bills to Parliament by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on March 13, 2025.

Since its introduction in 2022, the E-Levy had been widely criticized for disproportionately affecting ordinary citizens and small businesses. Its removal is expected to ease financial burdens on Ghanaians and stimulate digital transactions, particularly within the mobile money sector.

President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to reducing financial strain on Ghanaians, stating, “This is a commitment we made to the people of Ghana, and today, we have honoured it.”

As the new tax policies take effect, experts predict increased mobile money transactions, improved financial inclusion, and a potential boost in digital commerce across the country.

Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, popularly known as D Black, has credited Reggie Rockstone for influencing his transition from rapping in hardcore English to incorporating local languages in his music.

D Black revealed that he adopted the English style of hip-hop rap before heeding Reggie’s advice.

“Reggie Rockstone inspired me to switch from rapping in English to using a local language. Before this, I couldn’t rap in Twi at all” D Black shared in an interview on Adom TV.

According to the ‘Enjoyment Minister,’ the legendary musician, at a point, even offered to write lyrics for him in Twi or find someone else who could.

D Black also disclosed an instance where Reggie encouraged him to try rapping in Pidgin, which led to one of his biggest songs, ‘Vera’.

“Reggie offered to write it for me or find someone else to do so. He also asked if I could rap in Pidgin, which led to my first Pidgin song, ‘Vera,’ based on his advice,” he added.

D Black acknowledged how Rockstone’s guidance shaped his career, leading to multiple hit songs and collaborations with artistes who made music in local languages.

“The song turned out well. Also, I would occasionally collaborate with musicians who were creating music in the local language. The advice helped me a lot; I got big hits like ‘Seihor’ and ‘Personal Person,’” he said.

Beyond music, D Black also revealed that he shares a close relationship with Reggie Rockstone.

He revealed that he served as Reggie Rockstone’s road manager for about two to three years, travelling with him before starting his career.

“I have a very good relationship with Reggie, as I was his road manager for about two to three years before becoming an artist myself,” he revealed.

Trump slaps Ghana with 10% tariff imposition to US market amid global trade wars

0

Ghana’s duty-free access to the US market under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) has been abruptly terminated with a 10% tariff imposition on exports to the US market, marking a significant blow to the country’s export sector.

This follows an announcement by President Donald Trump on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, imposing far-reaching new tariffs on nearly all US trading partners.

China has been slapped with a 34% tax on imports, 20% on the European Union, among others that threaten to dismantle much of the architecture of the global economy and trigger broader trade wars.

Trump, in an announcement, said he was placing elevated tariff rates on dozens of nations that run meaningful trade surpluses with the United States, while imposing a 10% baseline tax on imports from all countries in response to what he called an economic emergency.

Trump said he was acting this way to bring in hundreds of billions in new revenue to the US government and restore fairness to global trade.

“Taxpayers have been ripped off for more than 50 years. But it is not going to happen anymore,” he said.

Trump declared a national economic emergency to levy the tariffs. He has promised that factory jobs will return to the United States as a result of the taxes, but his policies risk a sudden economic slowdown as consumers and businesses could face sharp price hikes.

The White House says the tariffs and other trade imbalances led to an $1.2 trillion imbalance in 2024. Administration officials suggested it could take an extended set of actions by other countries to bring down the new tariffs their imports now face, and retaliatory tariffs by those countries could make the situation worse.

Implications for Ghana’s export strategy

The removal of AGOA privileges represents a major setback for Ghana’s Accelerated Export Strategy, which relies heavily on access to US markets for processed cocoa, textiles, and agricultural products.

The decision could lead to a sharp decline in export revenues, increased costs for Ghanaian exporters, and potential job losses across key industries.

Trade analysts warn that Ghana’s exports could struggle to remain competitive without preferential tariff treatment.

While African economies had hoped for an AGOA renewal, the latest decision suggests a shift towards reciprocal trade agreements, potentially forcing Ghana into a bilateral trade negotiation with the US.

He stuck with Salah the most in his picks, choosing him over Hazard, Mane, and Heung-Min Son.

However, the 21-year-old chose Cristiano Ronaldo over the Egyptian in his final-round pick.

Seven people have been confirmed dead and 32 others injured after a bus belonging to Mvungi Company overturned early Thursday morning at Mamba Village, Msangeni Ward, Ugweno Division, Mwanga District.

The victims were travelling from Ugweno to Dar es Salaam.

Kilimanjaro Regional Fire and Rescue Commander, Jeremiah Mkomagi, confirmed the fatalities, stating that the accident occurred at approximately 7:30 AM.

Among the deceased are three women, including a young child, and four men.

Mkomagi said that the incident took place in a hilly area, adding that the bus veered off the road while attempting to overtake another vehicle, and eventually slipped in the mud caused by the rain.

“The bus fell into a ravine after it lost control. The deceased included three women and four men,” Mkomagi said.

Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Nurdin Babu, also weighed in on the cause of the accident, attributing it to the driver’s attempt to overtake a broken-down vehicle in the wet, slippery conditions.

“The driver tried to overtake the other vehicle, but due to the ongoing rain, the road became slippery. The bus lost control and overturned,” said Babu.

The injured passengers have been rushed to KCMC, Mawenzi, and Usangi hospitals for treatment. Local authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. A full report will be provided in due course.

This tragic accident comes just days after a similar incident in Same District on March 30, 2025, in which seven people were killed, including six members of a choir from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania.

ACCA Orbit 2025 Explores Artificial Intelligence In Shaping Accountancy

0

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has reinforced its commitment to equipping finance professionals with future-ready skills by hosting ACCA Orbit 2025, a summit focused on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping the accountancy profession.

The event, held at the UPSA Auditorium under the theme ‘AI and the Future of Work’, brought together industry experts, business leaders, and technology professionals to discuss AI’s impact on finance and the evolving responsibilities of accountants.

In his opening remarks, Col. Nobel Carl Doe Dei-Alose, Chairperson of ACCA Ghana, emphasised the urgency for accountants to develop AI competencies to remain relevant. He warned that those who fail to adapt risk being left behind as AI becomes increasingly integrated into financial processes.

“We need to support understanding towards engagements in functions that we should be prepared to handle. As we move forward, you will notice that you cannot avoid them,” he stated.

He further cautioned that professionals who do not grasp the fundamentals of the evolving business environment may struggle to reconcile traditional knowledge with modern industry demands.

A panel discussion on ‘Will AI Take My Job?’ addressed concerns about automation replacing accountants. Panelists highlighted AI’s role as an enabler rather than a disruptor, stating that the profession is shifting from data processing to advisory functions.

Akwasi Adu Boahene, CEO of Fidelity Securities, underscored the need for accountants to embrace this transformation, stating, “The future of accountancy is no longer about just reporting numbers but about deriving strategic value from them. Those who can interpret financial data to inform business decisions will remain indispensable.”

While he reasoned that AI would lead to enhanced accuracy and consequently trust in output of professionals, he, however, cautioned against the potential biases. “Trust and accuracy are the foundations of accounting. AI, when properly implemented, can enhance trust by improving data analysis and reducing human error but there must be governance structures in place to ensure AI is used responsibly. Without proper oversight, AI could be misused, eroding the very trust it seeks to build,” he explained.

Winifred Opoku-Baffour, Assistant Vice President, Rewards and Governance Lead at Absa Bank highlighted AI’s potential to enhance efficiency while cautioning against fears of job losses.

“It is normal for people to be afraid, but that fear comes from a misunderstanding of AI’s capabilities. AI cannot replace fundamental accounting skills. Instead, it will help us be more efficient. The key is to embrace it as an enabler, not a threat,” she argued.

Six NPP Candidates Take Legal Action Against Electoral Commission in Ghana

News Hub Creator4h

The political tension in Ghana is rising as six parliamentary candidates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have filed a lawsuit against the Electoral Commission (EC), accusing the body of causing delays in the collation and announcement of results from the December 2024 parliamentary elections. The candidates, from different constituencies, are seeking legal intervention to hasten the process, citing major disruptions that have prevented the timely release of the results.

The candidates, represented by lawyer Gary Nimako Marfo, include Martin Kweku Adjei-Mensah Korsah (Techiman South), Nana Akua Owusu Afriye (Ablekuma North), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Patrick Yaw Boamah (Okaikwei Central), Charles Forson (Tema Central), and Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh (Ahafo Ano North). They have approached the High Court with a request for a mandamus order to compel the EC to complete the results, particularly in the contested Tema Central constituency.

The candidates argue that violent incidents at collation centers severely disrupted the electoral process. They claim that groups of young men stormed the centers, causing delays in the collation process and forcing the EC to move operations several times. Furthermore, the petitioners contend that the EC did not provide adequate security to ensure the integrity of the process.

Initially, the collation process was moved to regional centers on December 9 to address the disruptions, but this did little to resolve the delays. Ultimately, the process was transferred to the Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, but the delays persisted.

What Kufuor said to Bawumia after 2024 Election defeat

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and John Agyekum Kufuor Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and John Agyekum Kufuor

The 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has recounted the words of encouragement he received from former President John Agyekum Kufuor after his defeat in the 2024 general elections.

According to a report by 3news.com.gh, he made this known during an engagement with the New Patriotic Party Caucus in Parliament on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

Dr Bawumia recounted, “Sometimes, I hear people ask, ‘Where do we start from?’ The words of Pres Kufuor always ring in my mind. He told me after the defeat that in 1996, when he had 39%, he too wondered where to start from. But with unity behind him and hard work in just 4 years, we crossed 50%. In the last election, we got 41%.”

He expressed confidence that with unity and a common purpose, Ghanaians will take a decision to vote the NPP back into power.

Dr Bawumia also expressed gratitude to the NPP MPs for their work in the 9th Parliament.

“Many have likened you to the Minority of the 2nd Parliament led by our father, J.H Mensah. The party will be forever grateful to you. Let me take this opportunity also to commend the back benchers/first timers, who have sent shocks throughout the waves with their sterling performances. You have qualitatively proven your inclusion. I also appreciate the leadership and continuing MPs for giving the back benchers the platform to shine. This is the kind of unity of purpose and understanding that we need to win elections once again.

“I call you The Mighty Minority of 88 Infantry Battalion, commanded by Hon Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin. My first reason for coming here is to say a big thank you to you directly. And through you, say thank you to the many in your constituencies who worked for us in various ways,” he added.

Bawumia Gives Bags Of Rice To Needy At Eid-ul-Fitr

0

The presentation being made on behalf of the former Vice President at one of the reception centres

Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia last weekend donated over 3,300 bags of rice across the country to support needy Muslims towards the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The gesture covered all the regions in the country through regional representatives who identified the needy for whom the rice was meant for.

Eid-ul-Fitr refers to the feast at the end of the month-long period of fasting during the Islamic calendar of Ramadan.

Muslims are required to assist the needy during the occasion so that nobody from the faith goes hungry on this special day of feasting.

Every Muslim in good financial standing must as a matter of necessity donate specified quantity of staple food such as rice or maize to the needy on their behalf and their dependents.

Bawumia’s timely donation was a welcome relief to many families, who might have struggled to buy even rice on such a joyous day.

The former Vice President’s distribution summed up to 3,320, with the Ashanti Region, known for its huge Muslim population, receiving the highest bags of 480 bags, followed by Greater Accra and Eastern with 350 and 340 respectively.

Dr. Bawumia also presented bags of rice to the National Chief Imam, for the same reason of supporting the needy among the Muslim community.

68% of voters say Akufo-Addo caused NPP defeat – Global InfoAnalytics

0

A post-election poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics reveals that 68% of respondents hold former President Nana Akufo-Addo responsible for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections.

The poll sheds light on public sentiment following the party’s loss, with significant portions of voters also attributing blame to key figures within the government.

Among those surveyed, 40% blame former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for the defeat, while 37% attribute it to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate and former Vice President.

Additionally, 33% hold Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh responsible, while 32% point to other government appointees. Members of Parliament are also seen as part of the blame, with 25% of voters assigning responsibility to them.

The poll suggests that many voters viewed the performance of the Akufo-Addo-led government as a key factor in the NPP’s electoral loss. Issues like economic challenges, governance concerns, and public dissatisfaction may have contributed to the perception that the former President’s leadership played a pivotal role.

Interestingly, only 9% of respondents blame Kennedy Agyapong, who contested in the NPP’s primaries but did not lead the party into the elections. This indicates that, despite intra-party competition, most of the blame was directed at those directly associated with the government’s administration.

These findings highlight the complexities of voter sentiment and the significant challenges the NPP faces in rebuilding after its electoral defeat.

Ghana GoldBod: The journey so far

The Ghana Gold Board bill has been signed into law by President Mahama play videoThe Ghana Gold Board bill has been signed into law by President Mahama

The Ghana Gold Board, popularly known as GoldBod, has officially been signed into law by President John Dramani Mahama, marking a historic moment for the country’s gold industry.

The bill, passed by Parliament on March 29, 2025, is the result of years of planning, consultations, and collaboration aimed at transforming Ghana’s gold sector.

The GoldBod initiative, first introduced as a campaign promise by President Mahama, is part of his administration’s broader economic revitalization agenda. It seeks to regulate the gold sector, streamline the buying and selling processes, and ensure that Ghana’s gold resources benefit the nation as a whole.

A Long Journey from Concept to Law

The journey toward GoldBod’s creation began with a vision to establish a structured and formalized framework for gold trading in Ghana. To lead this effort, President Mahama appointed Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC Communications Officer, as the acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC). His task was to operationalize GoldBod under the oversight of the Minister of Finance.

A broad, consultative approach was key to GoldBod’s development. Sammy Gyamfi held staff durbars and engaged with key stakeholders, including the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners, Ghana Association of Forex Bureau, and the State Interest and Governance Authority. These consultations helped shape the policies and strategies that would govern the initiative.

Stakeholder Involvement and the Technical Committee

To ensure that all voices in the gold sector were heard, a Technical Committee was formed by the Minister of Finance, including representatives from various organizations such as the Chamber of Bullion Traders, the Bank of Ghana, the Minerals Commission, and the Minerals Income Investment Fund. This committee engaged in extensive discussions with stakeholders across the industry, including large-scale miners, small-scale miners, gold dealers, jewelers, and Civil Society Organisations.

The committee’s work culminated in the submission of a draft legislative framework and policy paper to the Minister for Finance. After further review, the draft bill was forwarded to the Attorney-General for legal drafting, before being presented to the President for Executive Approval.

Subsequently, the Minister of Finance laid the Bill before Parliament for consideration and approval.

This bill, which improves conditions for small-scale miners by making the board the sole buyer of gold from licensed miners, ensures fair pricing and enhanced market access. It was signed into law by President John Dramani Mahama on April 2, 2025, signaling a transformation in the gold sector.

Ghana’s business landscape expands, but growth remains uneven – 2024 IBES Report

0

The number of business establishments in Ghana has tripled over the past decade, reaching 1.87 million in 2024, up from 638,235 in 2014, according to the latest findings from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

However, employment growth has lagged behind, raising concerns about the structure and sustainability of the country’s business environment.

The 2024 Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES I), released on April 3, provides an in-depth analysis of Ghana’s business ecosystem, covering sectoral distribution, employment trends, and formalization.

While the surge in businesses is a positive development, the report highlights key challenges such as informality, financial constraints, and sluggish employment expansion.

Micro businesses on the rise

One of the most striking findings is the dominance of micro-sized businesses, which now account for 90.4 per cent of all establishments—a significant rise from 16.6 per cent in 2014.

These enterprises, typically engaging between one and five persons, have driven the overall increase in business numbers. However, their expansion has not translated into proportionate employment growth, with the number of persons engaged increasing from 3.28 million in 2014 to 6.90 million in 2024—a considerably slower pace compared to the tripling of business establishments.

The share of medium-sized enterprises has declined sharply, while small businesses make up 8.5 per cent of the total. Large enterprises remain rare, constituting only 0.3 per cent of all businesses. Despite their small scale, micro-enterprises are the largest employers, providing jobs for 2.89 million people, nearly double the workforce of large companies.

Financial struggles and informality persist

Financial sustainability remains a significant hurdle for Ghanaian businesses. The report reveals that 70 per cent of establishments generate less than GHS 10,000 annually, while only 0.01 per cent surpass the GHS 1 million revenue mark.

This disparity underscores the economic vulnerability of the majority of businesses, particularly in the informal sector.

Informality remains a dominant feature of Ghana’s business landscape, with 92.3% of enterprises operating outside the formal regulatory framework. Notably, older businesses—those over 50 years old—are more likely to be informal, and recent trends indicate that more businesses are moving into informality rather than formalizing.

While Greater Accra, Upper East, and Upper West have experienced a rise in informal businesses, Central and Northern regions have seen a gradual shift towards formalization.

Digital and green practices gaining ground

Despite these challenges, some positive trends are emerging. The adoption of digital financial services is on the rise, with 37.2 per cent of businesses integrating digital payment solutions. The highest adoption rates are recorded in Greater Accra (50.9 per cent), while the lowest are in Savannah (18.9 per cent).

Additionally, businesses are increasingly embracing environmentally sustainable practices. According to the IBES I report, 28.5 per cent of agricultural businesses and 20.6 per cent of industrial firms have adopted green practices, signaling a gradual shift towards sustainability in the business sector.

Policy implications and the way forward

Speaking at the launch of the report, the Treasurer of the Association of Ghana Industries, Raphael Ayitey emphasized the importance of data-driven policymaking.

He noted, “There is a growing demand for reliable and timely business data, frequently requested by policymakers and development partners. The lack of such data can lead to underestimating the informal sector’s contribution to GDP and distort the structure of manufacturing and productivity over time. With insights from the IBES report, planners and policymakers now have a clearer understanding of both the formal and informal sectors, paving the way for better-structured business operations in the future.”

The event also featured presentations from Prof. Samuel Kobina Annim, Government Statistician, and Dr. Faustina Frempong-Ainguah, Deputy Government Statistician. They emphasized the need for strategic investments in infrastructure, digital financial systems, and business formalization to address the challenges highlighted in the report.

AirMed International has refuted claims of illegalities AirMed International has refuted claims of illegalities

AirMed International, an air ambulance and medical transport company at the center of allegations made by the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has clarified that its stop at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) was due to maintenance issues, refuting any links to drug trafficking.

The global medical company stated that it made multiple fuel stops, including one at Kotoka International Airport, where it encountered maintenance problems, GHOne TV reports.

It was also reported that a second aircraft, carrying replacement parts, supplies, and technicians, was dispatched and later arrived at KIA.

“Upon landing in Ghana, the aircraft experienced maintenance issues, and a second aircraft was dispatched with replacement parts, supplies, and technicians.

“AirMed International aircraft N823AM made multiple stops for fuel, including a stop at Kotoka International Airport,” GHOne TV quoted in a series of posts on April 3, 2025.

AirMed expressed confidence that their flights did not engage in any illegal activities, as speculated.

The company further stated that it has documentation and flight details to support its claims, emphasising its certainty in being vindicated.

“We are confident that flight documentation and details will demonstrate that the AirMed aircraft was not engaged in any illegal activities,” GHOne TV quoted the company as saying.

The controversy surrounding AirMed flights began when Assin South MP, Ntim Fordjour, raised concerns over two suspicious flights: AirMed flight NH23AM and the Cavok Air private jet Antonov AN-12B, both of which landed in Ghana in March.

According to the Minority caucus, the two flights, suspected of carrying cocaine and an undisclosed amount of cash, landed in Ghana between March 20 and March 25, 2025.

Addressing a press conference on April 1, 2025, Rev John Ntim Fordjour stated that the Minority caucus had intercepted intelligence indicating that an air ambulance landed in Ghana without any referral of patients.

Punish Mourinho for pinching our coach’s nose – Galatasaray urges Fenerbahçe

The Vice President of Galatasaray Football Club, Metin Öztürk, has called on Fenerbahçe to take punitive action against their head coach, Jose Mourinho, for physically and verbally attacking Galatasaray’s manager, Okan Buruk.

Öztürk stated that Buruk did not provoke the former Chelsea boss in any way, yet he was attacked after congratulating the officiating officials.

He urged Fenerbahçe to sanction Mourinho before the Turkish Football Federation takes action.

“Our manager, Okan, and Mourinho both congratulated the referees. After that, while Okan was continuing, Mourinho first verbally and then physically attacked him. Where else in the world can this happen? What does he think of Turkey? I believe Fenerbahçe’s management will impose the necessary sanctions before the federation does,” Öztürk said, as reported by BBC Sports.

Buruk, who played for Galatasaray for two seasons before returning as manager in 2022, criticised Mourinho for his behavior.

“There was nothing between me and Mourinho. He pinched my nose from behind. There was a slight scratch. Of course, it wasn’t a very nice or elegant thing to do. We expect managers to behave more appropriately in such situations. I won’t exaggerate this issue, but it wasn’t a classy move,” Buruk said.

Mourinho clashed with Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk after Fenerbahçe lost 2-1 in the Turkish Cup quarter-finals on April 2, 2025.

After the match, the Portuguese manager, upset with the officiating, approached the referees to shake their hands.

Subsequently, Mourinho went on to pinch Buruk’s nose, causing the Galatasaray coach to immediately fall to the floor.

Short jumpsuits, often referred to as rompers, are a wardrobe staple for women who want to combine style and comfort. These one-piece wonders are versatile and can be dressed up or down, making them perfect for a wide range of occasions, from casual brunches to evening parties. With the right styling, short jumpsuits can easily become a go-to outfit for any season. Here are some trendy ways to rock short jumpsuits for women.

1. Casual Daywear

Short jumpsuits are ideal for laid-back, everyday wear. Opt for a simple cotton or linen romper in neutral colors like white, beige, or navy. Pair with sneakers or flat sandals for ultimate comfort while running errands or grabbing coffee with friends. A basic short jumpsuit with a drawstring waist or belt can help accentuate your figure without compromising on comfort. Add a sun hat or a crossbody bag for extra flair on sunny days.

2. Chic and Polished Looks

For a more put-together look, consider a tailored short jumpsuit. Choose one in a solid color, such as black, blush, or deep green, with structured details like a belt, pleats, or sharp lines. These jumpsuits work well for a day at the office, a lunch date, or even a cocktail party when paired with heels and statement jewelry. A blazer or a chic cardigan can add sophistication and make the outfit more versatile for different settings.

3. Floral Prints for a Feminine Touch

Floral short jumpsuits are perfect for adding a playful, feminine element to your wardrobe. Whether you’re attending a garden party, a wedding, or enjoying a day at the beach, a floral romper exudes charm and lightheartedness. Pair it with sandals or wedges, and accessorize with dainty jewelry to complete the look. Floral patterns in bright colors like coral, yellow, or pastel hues are especially popular during spring and summer.

4. Boho Vibes with a Belted Romper

For those who love bohemian style, a short jumpsuit with relaxed, flowy fabric and a belt at the waist is an excellent choice. This style exudes carefree elegance and is perfect for festivals, beach vacations, or an outdoor brunch. You can add a wide-brimmed hat, oversized sunglasses, and gladiator sandals to complete the boho-chic vibe. Look for rompers with unique details like crochet or lace for an added touch of texture.

5. Sporty and Active Outfits

Sporty short jumpsuits are gaining popularity, especially for women who want a comfortable yet fashionable option for outdoor activities. These jumpsuits often feature breathable fabrics like jersey or cotton and include sporty elements such as zippers, pockets, or stripes. Pair with sneakers or sporty sandals for an active yet stylish look, whether you’re hiking, cycling, or heading to a casual day out.

6. Elegant Evening Wear

Short jumpsuits aren’t just for casual wear—they can also be a stylish alternative to dresses for an evening out. Opt for a romper in luxurious fabrics such as satin, silk, or velvet, which can elevate the outfit for a more glamorous look. A romper with sequins, intricate details, or a deep V-neck can be perfect for a night at a club, a fancy dinner, or even a formal event. Pair with heels, bold jewelry, and a sleek clutch for an elegant ensemble.

Conclusion

Short jumpsuits for women are a versatile and stylish addition to any wardrobe. Whether you’re looking for something casual, chic, bohemian, or even formal, there’s a short jumpsuit to suit every occasion. By pairing the right accessories and shoes, you can effortlessly transition your romper from day to night, making it a go-to option for any season. From floral prints to sleek, tailored designs, short jumpsuits offer a fashion-forward way to showcase your style and personality.

In a revealing interview on Max TV, Ahoufe Patri, who gained popularity through the Boys Kasa skits with Kalybos, recounted the unsettling experience.

While she did not disclose the producer’s identity, she shared that he showed interest in her acting talent but insisted on getting to know her “in a more personal way.”

“The issue of sex for roles is not just limited to the movie industry; it happens everywhere,” Ahoufe Patri said. “I was around 19 years old when I met this producer, who was interested in working with me but demanded something in return.”

At the time, the actress was new to the industry, eager to secure roles, but stood firm in her values and refused to comply with the producer’s demands.

“I had a boyfriend I was deeply in love with, and I couldn’t imagine compromising myself with another man. The producer became angry when I rejected his request,” she revealed.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has donated over 800 bags of rice to Muslim communities across the country in commemoration of Eid-ul-Fitr, the festivities at the end of the Ramadan month-long period of fasting.

The food items which comprised 336 bags of 50kg and 500 bags of 5kg rice were presented to youth groups, families from both urban and village centres; the coordination was done through Muslim leaders in the communities.

The elders from the beneficiary communities, who expressed their gratitude for the donation,   also prayed and asked for divine protection, strength, and wisdom for the former Member of Parliament (MP) and businessman.

“As the crescent of the moon signals the end of Ramadan, may this act remind us that love unites us all, let’s all embrace peace, respect, and togetherness. I want my fellow brothers and sisters to celebrate with joy. The donations are more than acts of charity, they represent a deep-seated commitment to inclusivity and social responsibility,” he added.

This annual tradition of donating to Muslims underscores the former MP’s dedication to supporting faith-based communities and fostering national unity.

I was targeted by MOMO fraudsters

MTN Ghana’s CEO, Stephen Blewett, has recounted a personal experience in which he was targeted by a mobile money scam, shedding light on the growing threat of fraud in the country.

Speaking on his first anniversary as CEO, Blewett revealed that the incident occurred during his first month at MTN Ghana when he received a call from a fraudster attempting to deceive him.

“In my first month here, I received a call from a fraudster. He claimed I had made a transfer and tried to manipulate me into believing it. I decided to keep him on the phone for about 15 minutes, hoping that by doing so, he wouldn’t scam someone else.

“Eventually, I told him I was the CEO of MTN, and he didn’t believe me. He got upset and hung up. But this experience serves as a reminder of how important it is to stay vigilant.”

Blewett assured customers that MTN remains committed to combating mobile money fraud and is actively working on solutions to protect users.

“We are constantly asking ourselves how we can improve. We are applying the same customer-first mentality to tackle these issues and are exploring better solutions for our users.”

World Autism Day: Parents asked to seek early treatment for signs of autism

0

Parents have been advised to seek early treatment when their children begin to exhibit signs of autism such as delayed communication and repetitive behaviour.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain and affects communication, social interactions, and behaviour.

Seeking early treatment, according to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bright Steps International School, Mrs Grace A. Nkrumah, would help make a change in the lives of children living with such a health condition.

Mrs Nkrumah was speaking to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, as part of the school’s activities to mark this year’s World Autism Awareness Day.

“On this special day, we want to create awareness on autism. What we want to create awareness on is the red flags of autism so that parents who have babies do not sit and wait for too long before they bring them in. Some of the red flags of autism are repetitive behaviours and delay in communication. We, therefore, urge parents to quickly seek medical support to identify what the issue is. And even while the diagnosis is still pending, we recommend that they seek early intervention,” Mrs Nkrumah advised.

Furthermore, Mrs Nkrumah said it was important for educational institutions to be equipped with the needed resources to enable them to take care of children with autism.

“If the government or right support is given to these educational institutions, they will all help to support these students wherever they are,” she said.

As an inclusive educational institution in the country, Mrs Nkrumah said Bright Steps International School was committed to creating a supportive learning environment where children with autism and their neurological peers could thrive together.

Additionally, she noted that through its specialised programmes such as early intervention, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy, the school ensured that every child received the necessary support to help develop their full potential.

Dark-skinned actors faced pressure to bleach – Martha Ankomah recounts ‘skin-tone stigma’ on set

0

Ghanaian actress, Martha Ankomah Ghanaian actress, Martha Ankomah

Ghanaian actress Martha Ankomah has revealed the daunting challenges dark-skinned actors faced during her prime in the industry.

Speaking at the PCH Hangouts 2025 Edition, an event organised by the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) and streamed live on Graphic Online’s website, she shared her personal experiences with discrimination based on her skin tone.

Martha Ankomah said she was once told by a movie producer that her complexion was a disadvantage on set.

“Martha, you are too black… The lights we use in filmmaking won’t make you stand out” she recalled being told.

She noted that such biases led some actors to resort to skin bleaching in order to fit into beauty standards.

“If you’ve been following Ghanaian films for years, you’ll notice that some actors who were once dark-skinned are now much lighter because they felt the need to maintain that appearance” she added.

Martha Ankomah further emphasised that her upbringing and strong Christian background helped her stay true to herself.

She went on to credit her late father, an Adventist, and her mother, a devout Pentecost member, for instilling values that guided her decisions.

“The Bible teaches that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom” she added.

‘He makes no sense’ – Kumchacha blasts Maurice Ampaw over Prof Naana Jane’s health comments

0

Maurice Ampaw and Kumchacha Maurice Ampaw and Kumchacha

Founder and leader of Heaven’s Gate Ministries, Prophet Nicholas Osei, popularly known as Prophet Kumchacha, has criticized lawyer Maurice Ampaw over his comments regarding Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s health.

According to Prophet Kumchacha, Maurice Ampaw is playing politics with the health status of the Vice President by accusing members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating her health issues.

“Lawyer Maurice Ampaw claims that the Vice President’s illness was orchestrated by someone. He is a big liar! When he misbehaves on social media and is called out, he threatens court action,” Kumchacha stated.

“The Vice President is unwell, and Maurice Ampaw says her sickness has been orchestrated by someone who wants her position. This makes no sense! When Bawumia fell ill and was taken to the UK for treatment, was that also orchestrated?” he questioned.

He continued, “Death has nothing to do with political affiliations, so what Maurice Ampaw is saying makes no sense. He should stop this behaviour because health issues should not be politicized,” he cautioned.

Speaking in a viral video shared on YouTube, Prophet Kumchacha further questioned the basis of Maurice Ampaw’s accusations, labeling them baseless and unfounded.

Meanwhile, a former Deputy Spokesperson for Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang during the 2024 election campaign, Eric Adjei, has provided an update on the Vice President’s health.

In a social media post, Adjei, who is now the Acting Chief Executive Officer of NEIP, assured the public that the Vice President is in good health, easing concerns among Ghanaians.

According to him, he has been in constant communication with Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s team, who confirmed that she is recovering well.

“Our mother, the Vice President, is in good health, thanks to God’s grace. I’ve received updates from the team, and Mum is doing very well by His grace,” he posted on Facebook on March 30, 2025.

His update has helped dispel lingering concerns among many Ghanaians regarding the Vice President’s condition.

This follows an official communiqué from the presidency confirming that the Vice President had fallen ill and received medical treatment on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, stated that the Vice President experienced a sudden illness after work hours on Friday.

“The Vice President, Her Excellency Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, received treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre on Saturday due to a sudden illness that occurred after work on Friday, March 28, 2025,” the statement read.

The communiqué further stated that although she had received treatment at UGMC, she would seek further medical attention abroad based on expert recommendations.

“Based on expert medical opinion, she will seek further care abroad,” it added.
