Minister of State for Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has disclosed that her office is working closely with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to address accessibility challenges faced by contributors and pensioners, particularly in districts without banking services.
She explained that the lack of banks in some districts makes it difficult for pensioners—especially the elderly—to access SSNIT benefits, as many are unable to travel long distances to areas where banks operate.
Speaking to Citi News during a courtesy visit to SSNIT to discuss public sector reforms and service delivery, Mrs. Akanvariba acknowledged the difficulties but said collaborative efforts are underway to provide innovative, technology-driven solutions.
“Because in every organisation, there are challenges. Challenges of receivers, challenges of their operations, challenges of districts where there are no banks — what do they do? But in all that, they are trying to create a digital platform where people without banks can still access the services in their contributions and in their payments.
Because currently we have a lot of pensioners who need to collect their payment, and they are so old that going to the bank is another issue,” she said.
She also highlighted plans to introduce tele-health services to improve healthcare access for SSNIT contributors and pensioners, describing it as a forward-looking innovation.
“And again, what is more striking is the tele-health. Tele-health is where they are going to provide health services to people through normal digital platform communication.
I think I had the opportunity of seeing such a thing in Ethiopia. It is being done in Kenya, actually; they have rolled it out. And I think that is an innovation that will go a long way to help their service delivery,” she added.
Director-General of SSNIT, Kwasi Afreh Biney, outlined additional initiatives aimed at improving accessibility. He said SSNIT will soon establish service desks within district assemblies to bring its services closer to residents in underserved areas.
“Our strategy was to grow using the banks as the first point of that expansion drive with a co-location strategy. We’re not just limiting ourselves to the banks. So we would get into spaces where probably even the District Assembly can become a point of contact for SSNIT, where we station our people to provide our services to the people in those communities,” he explained.
Mr. Biney further noted that SSNIT is enhancing its virtual infrastructure to allow clients to access services remotely from their homes, improving convenience and efficiency.
“Additionally, we are setting up our virtual infrastructure and improving it each day, such that people can engage with us without necessarily leaving the comfort of their homes. So those are initiatives meant to improve accessibility and convenience for the people,” he stated.
He added that as part of efforts to enhance returns on investment, SSNIT is planning major expansion projects at the Labadi Beach Hotel and La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, both of which are fully owned by the Trust.
“We have begun conversations to undertake major expansion works at the Labadi Beach Hotel and La Palm Hotel, where we hold 100% shares,” he said.
The Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) has appealed to government to immediately pay all outstanding arrears owed to waste management contractors by November 7, 2025, or risk a total shutdown of sanitation services across the country.
The Association in a presser warned that if the government fails to release the funds by the deadline, its members may be forced to suspend operations nationwide.
According to ESPA, such an action could lead to a national sanitation and health crisis, with possible outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and malaria.
The group explained that the non-payment of arrears has left many waste management companies struggling to operate, making it difficult to pay workers, maintain equipment, or sustain daily waste collection activities.
ESPA equally called on the Ministry of Finance to urgently release all pending payments to its members to prevent a breakdown in sanitation services.
The Association also wants government to review the current policy on the national sanitation and pollution levy.
According to ESPA, the levy should be restructured into a dedicated fund to support and sustain waste management operations across the country.
The Association noted that for years, the sector has operated without a clear and consistent budgetary allocation, leaving its financial sustainability at risk.
ESPA warned that if these issues were not addressed immediately, service disruptions could occur, endangering public health and the environment.
Following the ongoing debates about the use of black magic (juju) practices in the country’s movie industry, a resurfaced video of Ghanaian actor Yaw Dabo adding his voice to the discussion has been making waves on social media.
In an interview on Oyerepa TV, he labelled those who resort to juju in the film business as “shallow-minded.”
Asked if he has been a victim of spiritual attacks, Dabo stated that although such practices exist, his faith in Christ gives him peace of mind.
“As for me, I have surrendered my life to Christ. I know He would not allow anything to work against me. I believe no one has sent me to juju; even if you do that, it won’t work.
“If you’re a star and you want to destroy me with juju, then you’re shallow-minded,” he said.

He noted that he poses no threat to others in the industry and thus sees no motive for spiritual attacks.
“The kind of roles I do are different from the kind of roles other actors do. I pose no threat to anyone. Why would they attempt to sabotage me with juju?” he quizzed.
On whether he has ever used juju himself, the actor stated, “I have not, and I do not have the time to do so. What would I gain from that? I have no problem with anyone.”

Opposition MPs call for swift probe into alleged illegal mining activities involving officials in Oda
The Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed deep concern and outrage over revelations that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Mr. Solomon Kusi Brako, allegedly imposed and collected fines from illegal miners operating in Akyem Oda, only to release them to continue their activities.
Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, has called on the African Union (AU) and sub-regional bodies to take a stronger stance against leaders who undermine democratic processes on the continent.
His comments come amidst the controversial elections across three African nations this month. In Tanzania, President Samia Suluhu Hassan and her ruling party, the Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM), is maintaining dominance amid reports of opposition suppression. Cameroon’s 92-year-old President Paul Biya secured another term in a disputed election marked by unrest, while Côte d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara won a fourth term in a poll criticised for excluding major opposition candidates.
Dr. Asah-Asante warned that unless continental and regional institutions act decisively to enforce democratic standards, Africa risks entrenching a culture of impunity and electoral manipulation.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday October 29, Dr. Asah-Asante said the AU and regional organisations must ensure African leaders adhere to electoral rules and principles that guarantee free, fair, and credible elections.
“AU has a role to play by making sure that they talk to leaders of Africa so that they go according to those rules and regulations that guide the conduct of elections in Africa,” he said. “The sub-regional bodies must be up and doing and be able to take leaders on and hold their feet to political accountability and respect for the rules of the game.”
Dr. Asah-Asante criticised what he described as the tendency of African leaders to “pamper democratic lunatics” who manipulate electoral systems and disregard democratic norms without consequence.
He stressed that such leniency emboldens leaders to act with impunity, eroding confidence in governance and weakening the continent’s democratic development.
“The third one is the people,” he added, saying “We must be vigilant and put pressure on the government in order to ensure that we establish a system we call our own — a system that provides the dividends of democracy, improvement in our lives, freedom, and liberty.”

Former Health Minister Dr. Bernard OkoeBoye has dismissed claims that Ghana’s health data under the Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS) is hosted in India, describing the statement as “an absolute falsehood.”
The former minister’s remarks come amid tensions over the LHIMS system, which the current Health Minister has described as being intentionally disrupted by the vendor over disagreements on a new maintenance agreement.
According to Minister Akandoh, the government insisted that the vendor hand over the data and grant full administrative access to the state before signing the new service agreement. The vendor reportedly refused, prompting the system shutdown that has affected hospitals across the country.
Speaking in response to recent remarks by the Health Minister, Dr. OkoeBoye expressed disappointment over what he described as “serious misrepresentations” about the location and security of the country’s health data.
“I have listened to the minister, and I am very sad with the way he has handled this matter. The minister has made a lot of statements that are outrightly false. I would not want to suggest these were intended to malign the company, but the statements are inaccurate,” Dr. OkoeBoye said.
He clarified that all health data in Ghana, including records of approximately 25 million clients, are stored on servers located on the first floor of the Ministry of Health building.
He also emphasised that individual hospitals maintain their own local servers, with the ministry’s centralised server acting as a backup hub.
“So that India comment is another misrepresentation and falsehood. The Ministry of Health server is the centralized hub which serves as a remote backup for all the data,” he stated.
Dr. OkoeBoye stressed that Ghana’s health data has always been under the control of the Ministry of Health and accessible locally, countering claims that the information resides outside the country.
He described the public statements suggesting otherwise as misleading and inaccurate.

Police have arrested a self-proclaimed pastor, Major Wisdom Nutsugah, at Gomoa Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region for allegedly conducting rituals involving six men.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly lured the victims to his home under the pretext of a meeting and forced them, all of whom he had previously gifted motorbikes, to strip naked and perform rituals.
Sources indicate that the pastor, along with three junior pastors, allegedly gave the victims a suspicious substance and compelled them to eat toffees taken from a pot containing blood.
The victims claimed the pastor threatened to harm them if they refused to comply.
One of the victims managed to escape and reported the incident to the Buduburam Police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The suspect is currently in police custody at the Kasoa Divisional Command to assist with ongoing investigations.
Speaking to Adom News, the Assemblyman for the Buduburam Electoral Area, Emmanuel Dogbe, condemned the act and urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served if the suspect is found guilty.
Ayisha Zakaria, a 24-year-old guardian, has allegedly inflicted burns on the private part and inner thighs of a seven-year-old girl for bedwetting.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect, a resident of Mamobi in the Ayawaso North Municipality, allegedly heated a metal object, suspected to be a spoon, and applied it to the victim’s private part as punishment.
The injuries drew the attention of school authorities, who followed up on the matter, which had initially been kept discreet.
Following community concern, the case was reported to the Nima Division of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), leading to the suspect’s arrest last Thursday.
However, the complainant, Sarki Musah Umar, a youth leader, withdrew the case on Monday after what he described as intense pressure from the victim’s family and community leaders.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, he said, “Financially I was incapable because I was the only one spending money from going to the hospital to the police station.”
Imam Abdul Razak Iddriss of the Hamburg Mosque in Mamobi, during a lecture on Monday, called on well-meaning Ghanaians to intervene and demanded justice for the child.
He criticised the police and community leaders for failing to protect the victim, stating, “No matter how poor you are, it is better to have your children closer to you and cater for them. Only a few children who grow up with guardians excel in life.”
The Imam disclosed that GH¢2,000 had been raised to support the victim’s medical care at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
When contacted, DOVVSU at the Nima Division confirmed the case had been withdrawn but said they were monitoring the situation to ensure the child’s welfare.

An old Facebook post of the late Daddy Lumba celebrating Odo Broni and his mother, Ama Saah, has resurfaced on social media
In a Mother’s Day post shared a few months before his passing, Lumba referred to Odo Broni as his wife
Reemerging amid the tussle over his marriage, the old post has triggered massive reactions from Ghanaians
A throwback social media post from the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba has reignited online discussions about the identity of his legal wife, with many now concluding that Odo Broni holds that position.
The post, originally shared on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2025, on the musician’s official Facebook page, featured heartfelt tributes to two significant women in his life.

One was his late mother, Ama Saah a.k.a. Comfort Gyamfi, and Odo Broni, a.k.a. Priscilla Ofori Atta, whom some had previously considered to be his partner outside of marriage.
Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, as Lumba was known in real life, shared a photo of both, with his mother wearing a gown and a hat to match, while Odo Broni wore a black sweater over blue jeans.
In his caption to the photos, Daddy Lumba acknowledged both women’s profound impact on his life, explicitly referring to Odo Broni as his wife. He not only called Odo Broni his wife, but also added his surname to Broni’s official name.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all our amazing mothers. Especially to my hero in heaven, Comfort Gyamfi (Ama Saah), and my beautiful wife, Priscilla Ofori Fosuh, Odo Broni. I love you so much,” the post read.
See Daddy Lumba’s Mother’s Day post below:
While the post, made barely three months before he passed away, might not have meant so much then, it has resurfaced at a time when there is a tussle over who is his legal wife.
Brouhaha over Daddy Lumba’s marital life
Daddy Lumba’s Germany-based wife, Akosua Serwaa, has filed a suit seeking to be recognised as the late musician’s only surviving spouse and included the funeral preparations for her husband.
In her statement of claims, Akosua Serwaa accused Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu of sidelining her to the point that she only learned of the announced funeral date through social media.
She also dismissed the claim of Priscilla Ofori Atta, aka Odo Broni, who is known to have six children with the deceased, of being Daddy Lumba’s spouse, emphasising that she [Serwaa] remains the only woman legally married to the musician under German law.
The highlife legend’s family, in a letter signed by Fati Ali-Yallah of Baba Jamal & Associates, responded to Akosua Serwaa, stating that she had no authority to tell the family how to conduct the funeral.

Claiming that the first wife had returned her head drink, and thus traditionally dissolved her marriage with Daddy Lumba in 2018, the family declared Odo Broni as the only legitimate widow to undergo the widowhood rites.
The court dismissed an injunction application accompanying Akosua Serwaa’s suit and has resolved to give a ruling on the substantive case by November 25, 2025, before Lumba’s funeral, which is slated for December 6.
On the back of the legal tussle, the resurfaced post has been reposted online by many people, including UK-based Chris Vincent Agyapong, who shared it to mock Akosua Serwaa and her supporters.
Reactions to Daddy Lumba’s Mother’s Day message
Daddy Lumba’s Mother’s message has sparked mixed reactions online. While the original post gathered a lot of well-wishes, with a few asking questions, the repost has triggered a big debate online.
Nana Yaw Somua
“But there used to be one Serwaa Brakatu, whom you mentioned in your songs. Are u guys no longer married?”
Prince Acheampong said:
“Nana Yaw Somua, he has posted his wife here, wishing her a happy Mother’s Day, and you here asking unnecessary questions.”
Kofi Ofosu Nkansah wondered if Lumba wrote the message:
“Posted by Roman Fada or Daddy Lumba? If Lumba recognised Odo Broni as his wife, he should have formalised the relationship by divorcing Akosua Serwaa and marrying her. We don’t marry people by mouth.”
BigGodwin Martey said:
“So it means Lumba, in substance and not form, truly recognised Odo Broni as the wife. Why would he conspicuously omit Akosua from a post like this? And he was emphatic, calling her WIFE.”

Daddy Lumba’s sister not ready for his funeral
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Fosu, had shared her unpreparedness for her brother’s funeral.
Ernestina, who is based in Germany, said she was not ready for the date of December 6, set by their Abusuapanin.
She shared this after her joint application with Akosua Serwaa for an injunction on the funerals was dismissed.
A forensic audit by the Auditor-General has revealed that the former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Gifty Oware-Mensah (also known as Gifty Oware-Aboagye), was irregularly enrolled as a national service person while she was already a full-time, salaried public official.
According to the audit findings, Mrs Oware-Aboagye was manually added to the National Service Scheme (NSS) database on March 16, 2021, based on her Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Despite her ineligibility under the NSA’s statutory regulations, she was placed on the national service payroll and assigned a post at Koblimahagu Sobriya Primary School in Tamale. However, the report states that she never reported for duty and did not undergo biometric validation—yet continued to receive monthly allowances.
The audit uncovered that Mrs Oware-Aboagye’s full annual allowance of GH¢6,708.48 (GH¢559.04 per month for 12 months) was deducted in full and paid to a vendor via the “MarketPlace” platform under the guise of a credit facility.
Her registration, approved by then-Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, on April 22, 2021, was part of a broader irregular enrolment exercise that affected 4,556 individuals. The report estimates the total financial loss from these improper enlistments at GH¢899,349.67.
Of those enlisted, only 19 individuals met the required criteria for validation and approval as service personnel.
The Auditor-General described the incident as a breach of the service’s eligibility rules and a misuse of public funds, recommending stronger verification controls to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Ama Ofori Antwi is the Executive Secretary of ESPA
The Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) has sounded the alarm on the impending collapse of Ghana’s waste management system, warning that immediate government intervention is necessary to avoid a national sanitation and public health emergency.
Speaking at a conference on October 29, 2025, the Executive Secretary of ESPA, Ama Ofori Antwi, emphasised that service providers were on the verge of shutdown due to mounting financial pressure.
She noted that service providers who have borrowed from banks, creditors, suppliers, and other partners to sustain operations over the years now find themselves in positions where such support has ceased, and in many cases, they are being threatened with court action.
“If immediate government attention and intervention are not provided, these compounded challenges could cripple Ghana’s waste management system in a few days’ time, reversing years of progress made in keeping our cities clean and protecting public health and the environment,” she warned.
Ofori Antwi stressed that these efforts have yielded little progress and implored the government to urgently make payment to avoid shutdown by November 7, 2025.
In light of the above, Ofori Antwi called on the government to expedite the release of all pending payments to ESPA members through the Ministry of Finance by the stipulated deadline.
She also urged a policy review of the Sanitation and Pollution Levy as a dedicated fund to support and sustain the existing waste management infrastructure.
“There has been an absence of a dedicated budgetary allocation for waste management over the years. The sector’s financial sustainability, therefore, remains at risk, with the possibility of service disruptions if urgent attention is not given,” she stressed.
Furthermore, she asked that Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) review the current fixed cost recovery rates paid to waste collectors, transporters, and transfer station operators.
She explained that this stems from the fact that the existing rates have become economically unsustainable, rendering operations unprofitable for many members.
“A fair and realistic adjustment is essential to ensure business viability and the continued provision of effective sanitation services across the country,” she pointed out.
While urging the government to act on their concerns with a sense of urgency, Ofori Antwi emphasised that ESPA fully supported President John Dramani Mahama’s re-launch of the National Sanitation Day.
ESPA is a coalition of private waste management companies in Ghana, working in partnership with government and local authorities to promote efficient, sustainable, and inclusive environmental services for all.

The leadership of Ghana’s major farmer groups and agribusiness associations have declared a nationwide boycott of the 2025 Farmers’ Day celebrations, citing government inaction and worsening conditions in the country’s food production sector.
The decision, announced in a joint press release on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, involves rice producers and millers, maize farmers, mechanisation service providers, input dealers, and apex farmer associations, together with key players in the agribusiness value chain. The boycott will affect Farmers’ Day events at the district, regional, and national levels.
According to the statement, the action stems from what the farmers describe as deep frustration over the government’s failure to address mounting challenges, particularly those affecting rice, maize, and soya producers.
The groups accuse the government of neglecting its promise to purchase locally produced rice and maize through the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), as assured by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in a public statement issued on September 23, 2025.
“Despite repeated government assurances, farmers are still waiting. No action has been taken, and the situation has left many producers unable to sell their harvests,” the statement read.
The farmers also raised concerns over the influx of cheap, expired, and smuggled rice into local markets, which they say are often backed by politically connected importers. These imported products, they allege, are repackaged and sold without proper regulation or tax compliance, severely undermining local farmers and millers.
As of last week, the groups noted, more than 200,000 metric tons of paddy rice from the 2024 harvest remain unsold across the Upper East, Northern, and North East regions. With Ghana’s 2025 rice output projected at 1.5 million metric tons, farmers fear a worsening glut that could drive many out of business.
In their list of demands, the farmers called for:
* A six-month suspension of all foreign rice imports beginning November 2025, alongside tighter border controls. * A long-term import management strategy based on national production capacity. * A directive mandating public institutions — including schools, hospitals, prisons, and security agencies — to source rice and maize exclusively from local farmers. * Immediate release of funds by the Ministry of Finance to NAFCO to buy surplus produce. * The introduction of a guaranteed minimum price for rice and maize to protect farmers from exploitation.
The farmers emphasised that the boycott is not meant to undermine the importance of Farmers’ Day but to demand urgent government action to safeguard local agriculture.
“This action is not an attack on the idea of honoring farmers,” the statement said. “It is a firm and united statement that policies and practices which undermine farmers cannot be celebrated while our livelihoods collapse.”
The boycott has been endorsed by the Association of Rice Producers and Millers, Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana, Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF), General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU), Ghana Rice Inter-Professional Body (GRIB), and several others.
The Committee for the Promotion of Local Rice and Other Commodities, which issued the statement, said the boycott will stand until the government meets the outlined demands.

The Ghana Medical and Health Awards has opened nominations for its third edition, offering healthcare professionals across the country a chance to be recognized for their contributions to a sector that’s fighting to deliver quality care despite chronic underfunding. The nomination window, which runs from October 5 through December 10, comes as Ghana’s health system grapples with significant challenges that make celebrating excellence more important than ever.
Organized by Apex Africa Concept, the 2026 awards ceremony will honor individuals, institutions, and initiatives that have made exceptional contributions to healthcare delivery and public health advancement. Categories span doctors, nurses, pharmacists, midwives, laboratory scientists, health administrators, public health advocates, and community health initiatives, recognizing the breadth of talent keeping Ghana’s health system functioning.
The public and healthcare stakeholders can submit nominations through apexafricaconcept.com before the December deadline. Winners will be selected through what organizers describe as a comprehensive, merit-based process, with the awards ceremony scheduled for 2026.
It’s worth putting this recognition effort into context. Ghana’s healthcare sector faces serious structural challenges that make honoring excellence particularly meaningful right now. The 2025 national budget allocates only 6.32 percent of total spending to health, falling far short of the Abuja Declaration’s 15 percent commitment that African Union member states pledged in 2001.
Compensation for health workers consumes 74 percent of Ghana’s health budget, leaving only 6 percent for capital expenditure, which means limited investment in infrastructure improvements. The government announced a recruitment freeze in the 2025 budget, a decision with serious implications for human resources in a sector already struggling to meet recommended nurse-to-patient and doctor-to-patient ratios.
Ghana has approximately 4,300 doctors and 68,000 nurses serving a population of over 30 million, numbers that highlight the workload healthcare professionals carry. The country’s health infrastructure includes over 91 public hospitals and more than 200 private facilities, but distribution remains heavily skewed toward urban areas.
Healthcare worker migration presents another challenge. The nurse-to-population ratio has declined primarily due to migration abroad in search of better opportunities, along with a backlog of trained nurses yet to be employed despite increasing demand. These aren’t just statistics but real people whose absence affects service delivery, particularly in rural communities.
Patient safety challenges in Ghana include inadequate healthcare infrastructure, workforce shortages, medication errors, hospital-acquired infections, and poor reporting and monitoring systems, according to recent research. Limited public awareness and weak regulatory enforcement exacerbate these risks, making the work of exceptional healthcare professionals all the more vital.
Yet there are bright spots. Ghana achieved a 97 percent reduction in malaria deaths over the past decade, demonstrating what’s possible when programs receive sustained attention and resources. The country has made strides in expanding access to health services, even if quality concerns persist.
About 69 percent of Ghana’s population is covered by either the National Health Insurance Scheme or private health insurance, with higher coverage for females at 73 percent compared to males at 65 percent. Coverage varies significantly by region, from a low of 52 percent in Oti Region to a high of 86 percent in the Upper East Region.
The National Health Insurance Scheme, introduced in 2003, provides coverage for limited health issues, primarily treatment against the most prevalent diseases like malaria. However, an estimated 36 percent of healthcare expenditures are wasted due to inefficiencies and financial misappropriation, according to research on Ghana’s health system. With appropriate financial management, the government could theoretically save enough to employ approximately 23,000 nurses.
Ghana relies on imports for approximately 85 percent of its total healthcare consumption, with very limited local production of pharmaceuticals and even less manufacturing of medical equipment and devices. This dependency makes the health system vulnerable to global supply chain disruptions and currency fluctuations.
The awards organizers say the initiative seeks to acknowledge “the everyday heroes of Ghana’s health sector whose service, innovation, and commitment have positively transformed lives and strengthened healthcare delivery systems.” That language might sound promotional, but it reflects genuine appreciation in a sector where recognition often comes second to firefighting crises.
Ghana’s healthcare system operates as a decentralized, mixed delivery model comprising public, private, and faith-based providers. The Ministry of Health oversees policy while the Ghana Health Service implements programs through a three-tiered system: primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. Community-based health planning and services compounds, district hospitals, and teaching hospitals form the backbone of service delivery.
Urban centers are well served, hosting most hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies in the country. Rural areas often have limited modern healthcare services, forcing patients to rely on traditional African medicine or travel significant distances for care. This geographic disparity means healthcare professionals working in underserved areas face particularly challenging conditions.
There’s growing middle-class preference for private health facilities, which clients value for quality and convenience. Ghana’s medical device market is projected to reach $111 million by 2026, reflecting increasing private sector participation. The most dynamic growth and exciting opportunities are found in privately funded hospitals and clinics, though this creates a two-tier system where ability to pay determines care quality.
The SafeCare Quality Improvement programme, launched in 2009 by PharmAccess Foundation, has enrolled over 600 private and public healthcare facilities and is being adopted for nationwide rollout. The government recognized SafeCare’s contribution to healthcare financing in the 2024 budget statement, highlighting how partnerships can support system improvements.
Mental health remains critically underfunded, with no concrete budgetary commitment for expanding services beyond the three major psychiatric facilities in Accra and the central region. This gap affects vulnerable populations who often have nowhere to turn for specialized care.
For healthcare professionals considering whether to submit nominations or recommend colleagues, the awards represent more than just recognition. They’re an opportunity to shine a light on innovation and dedication that often goes unnoticed. In a sector facing brain drain, limited resources, and infrastructure challenges, celebrating those who stay and excel sends an important message.
Interested parties can reach organizers at 059 822 5556 or through the awards’ social media pages at @GhanaMedicalAndHealthAwards. The comprehensive selection process promises fairness and merit-based recognition, though specifics about judging criteria haven’t been publicly detailed.
The Ghana Medical and Health Awards joins other recognition initiatives like the Ghana Wellness and Healthcare Awards, scheduled for August 2025, in trying to boost morale and motivation within the health sector. Whether awards alone can address systemic challenges like funding gaps, workforce shortages, and infrastructure deficits remains questionable, but they at least acknowledge that excellence persists despite obstacles.
As Ghana works toward universal health coverage and improved health outcomes, recognizing the individuals and institutions driving progress becomes part of building a culture of excellence. The awards ceremony in 2026 will celebrate those who’ve made exceptional contributions, reminding everyone that behind the statistics and challenges are dedicated professionals transforming lives daily.
Culture Management Group has unveiled the lineup for AfroFuture Ghana 2025, bringing Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Asake to El Wak Stadium on December 28 and 29. The announcement, made on October 23, marks another chapter in what’s become Accra’s most influential year-end cultural celebration, powered by Afreximbank and Martell.
Asake headlines a roster that includes South African duo TxC, Ghana’s rising star Moliy, rapper King Paluta, and Afrobeat innovator Mavo. The festival will also feature DJ sets from Obi’s House, ADDJ, DJ Loft, and the duo K-Dawg & EZPass, each promising to keep crowds moving deep into the night.
This year’s theme, “African Nostalgia,” explores the collective memory that connects Africans across generations and borders through food, music, fashion, art, and community. It’s about honoring traditions that have endured despite migration and separation, transforming them into a global cultural force.
“African Nostalgia is the heartbeat of AfroFuture 2025,” says Abdul Karim Abdullah, CEO and Co-Founder of Culture Management Group. The theme celebrates what shaped African identity yesterday while fueling the African Dream of tomorrow, he adds.
For Asake, whose real name is Ahmed Ololade, the Accra performance comes amid an extraordinary year. The 30-year-old artist recently launched his independent label, Giran Republic, after departing YBNL Nation in February 2025. His debut album “Mr. Money with the Vibe” broke Apple Music records for African albums in 2022, while his follow-up “Work of Art” matched its Billboard 200 success, debuting at number 66.
The festival has evolved significantly since its inception as Afrochella. Previous editions have featured heavyweight performers including Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Burna Boy, Black Sherif, and Ayra Starr. Ghana’s tourism ministry named the AfroFuture team goodwill ambassadors in 2019 after the festival was credited with fueling 16 percent of the country’s visitors that year.
Beyond the two-day main event, AfroFuture will host a series of immersive experiences designed to celebrate African creativity and innovation. The Battle of Jollof Basketball Game on December 27 at Bukom Arena, produced in collaboration with the Basketball Africa League, merges sports, entertainment, and community impact in what’s become an anticipated annual tradition.
Fashion takes center stage on December 30 at the Nubuke Museum for Fashion Night Out, a curated day-to-night journey highlighting African designers. Guests will enjoy interactive installations, runway shows, panel discussions, a multi-brand trunk show, and live performances.
The celebration continues on New Year’s Eve at La Palm with AfroFuture’s eighth annual party featuring Positive Vibes Only, offering music, food, fashion, and high-energy fun to ring in 2026.
Perhaps most ambitious is Afro Expo, running December 18 through 31 across various Accra locations. The month-long initiative will spotlight African innovation and creativity through master classes, wellness experiences, book talks, film screenings, and networking mixers. It’s designed to bridge culture and commerce while amplifying visionaries shaping Africa’s future.
“Every AfroFuture Festival is a reminder that the future of Black culture is being written right here, in Africa,” says Akosua Ayim, Director of Operations at Culture Management Group. She emphasizes that the 2025 edition builds on that vision by bringing together artists, innovators, and dreamers shaping what’s next for the continent and the diaspora.
The festival’s impact extends beyond entertainment. It’s become a cornerstone of Ghana’s cultural diplomacy, driving tourism dollars and positioning Accra as a creative hub on par with Lagos and Johannesburg. Forbes reported that attendance has ballooned from 2,500 guests to more than 15,000 annually, with almost half of tickets purchased by visitors from North America.
The success also demonstrates the global appetite for African pop culture. Afrobeats has gone mainstream, and Western promoters now actively court African talent for international stages. By combining music, heritage tours, and business networking, AfroFuture helps build bridges between continental artists and diaspora audiences, aligning with broader Pan-African movements to reclaim narratives and cultural ownership.
For Asake specifically, the Accra performance comes between major international dates. He’s already performed at AfroFuture’s Detroit debut in August 2025, and has a Nairobi concert scheduled for December 20. His ability to sell out venues like London’s O2 Arena and New York’s Barclays Center highlights his growing influence on the global music scene.
The artist’s journey from releasing freestyles on social media while studying Theatre and Performing Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University to becoming one of Afrobeats’ leading voices resonates with AfroFuture’s broader narrative. His story embodies the festival’s mission: celebrating African creativity while inspiring the next generation.
Asake’s recent Grammy nomination for Best African Music Performance, his fusion of Afrobeats, amapiano, and Fuji influences, and his fashion-forward persona make him an ideal headliner for a festival centered on African Nostalgia. His music doesn’t just look backward but transforms cultural heritage into contemporary innovation.
Tickets for AfroFuture Ghana 2025 are available at afrofuture.com, with early-bird passes traditionally selling out quickly. Media accreditation applications close on December 1, with space limited and early submissions encouraged.
The festival represents more than just another concert series. It’s a homecoming for Africans and the diaspora, a space to connect, collaborate, and celebrate the continent’s creative excellence. As Culture Management Group continues expanding the AfroFuture brand internationally, the Accra edition remains its cultural heartbeat, reminding everyone that Africa isn’t just consuming global culture but actively shaping it.

Wales football star Aaron Ramsey has increased a reward for information about his dog Halo, who has gone missing in Mexico, to $20,000 (£15,000).
The former Arsenal and Cardiff midfielder, who now plays for Pumas UNAM in Mexico City, said Halo was last seen in San Miguel de Allende, in Mexico’s Guanajuato region.
The beagle, who went missing on 9 October, was wearing a dog tracker collar and Ramsey shared a Google maps location of where she was last seen.
“Any news about our Halo please contact us. Big reward for finding her. We are all praying she’s ok and can be back with us soon,” Ramsey posted on Instagram.
The footballer first announced Halo had gone missing two weeks ago and has since posted several photos of the beloved pet on Instagram.
A $10,000 reward was initially offered but with no news of Halo’s whereabouts after a week Ramsey and his family doubled the amount.
“We just want our girl back,” he said in another plea on social media after the 10-year-old dog went missing.
The most recent photograph post is a black and white image of Halo snoozing, her head resting in the crook of Ramsey’s arm, with the caption: “What I’d do to hold you one last time Halo.”
Ramsey has also shared a message from his wife Colleen on social media saying they have some “serious questions” surrounding the disappearance and worry the family “may never get answers”.
“We still haven’t found Halo. I don’t think we ever will,” his wife’s post read.

In a trending video, the scammer grew increasingly angry after his potential victim refused to “mention the code” he needed to access her money.
The woman, having noticed from the start that the caller was a fraudster, decided to play along, pretending to be naïve while deliberately wasting his time.
The frustrated scammer kept urging her to read out the supposed MTN message, shouting;
“Madam, read the number! Why are you doing that?”
His tone turned desperate as he demanded she reveal her details, but she calmly ignored him until he eventually lost his temper.
Realising he had been exposed, the man resorted to insults, ending the call in defeat.
The video has since gone viral, sparking laughter and strong lessons across social media about the tactics of scammers.
Many have taken the incident as a warning not to share personal details with unknown callers claiming to be from MTN.

Over 400,000 MoMo scam messages blocked daily
Mobile money fraud has long plagued Ghana’s fintech space, eroding public trust and causing major financial losses.
In May 2025, Mobile Money Limited intensified its efforts, blocking more than 400,000 scam SMS messages daily.
According to Chief Risk and Compliance Officer Godwin Tamakloe, the company’s new system automatically detects and blocks suspicious messages before they reach customers.
“The system can block over 400,000 SMSs in a day that would have reached customers for them to now call up and defraud,” he said on Channel One TV.
MTN deploys blockchain to fight MoMo fraud
In October 2025, MTN Ghana announced plans to deploy blockchain technology to strengthen fraud prevention.
The move aims to enhance transparency and make every transaction traceable from origin to destination.
“Every transaction can be traced,” MTN said.
“When fraud occurs, tracing it in real time can be difficult. Blockchain will change that by allowing full traceability, even down to the agent level.”
How to avoid becoming a MoMo fraud victim
The Ghana Cyber Security Authority has joined the fight against mobile money (MoMo) fraud.
Below are key guidelines compiled to help you avoid becoming a victim of MoMo fraud.
1. Never give your mobile money PIN to anyone:
Never share your Personal Identification Number (PIN) or any secret code with anyone, not even mobile money agents, telecom workers, or friends.
Mobile money agents and telecom staff are not allowed to ask for your PIN to perform transactions on your behalf. Remember: your PIN is your personal secret.
2. Make your PIN hard to guess:
Create a PIN that is difficult for others to figure out. Avoid using easy combinations such as your birth year, birthday, repetitive numbers (e.g., 1111, 2222), or simple patterns like 1234 or 2018.
Choose a PIN that is unique yet easy for you to remember. If you suspect your current PIN is weak, change it immediately.
3. Don’t give your phone to mobile money agents:
Never hand over your phone to an agent to perform a transaction for you. Doing so exposes you to potential fraud, as the agent may access sensitive information on your device.
4. Wait for confirmation:
After depositing at any MoMo merchant shop, always wait to receive a confirmation message before leaving.
Ensure that the text message is sent by your telecom provider, not from a suspicious number. Verify transaction details before withdrawing or transferring money.
5. Beware of fraudulent text messages and calls:
Be cautious of suspicious text messages or phone calls concerning your MoMo account. Do not follow any instructions from unknown numbers asking for your details or money transfers.
Ignore calls claiming you’ve won a prize or requesting your account information. When in doubt, contact your telecom provider’s official customer care for assistance.

Not long ago, Ridge hospital was asked by the court to pay 3 million cedis in a case of a young woman dying in the Obstetric and Gynaecology Department and you will think that lessons have been learnt.
Information gathered by this reporter indicates that a certain Mary Coffie, 34 years with abnormal bleeding from the uterus on the 29th of September 2025 was sent to theatre for elective gynaecology surgery and did not return to the ward but rather ended up in the mortuary.
The management of Ridge Hospital and staff involved. have a few questions to answer for accountability sake 1. What was the “ Anaesthesia issue” and the alleged argument in theatre? 2. Did the Anaesthesia issue lead to the death? 3. Was there an in- theatre delay? 4. What is the post mortem cause of death? 5. Are there theatre and incident reports ?
There should be accountability for actions and inactions leading this this painful exit.

Nkawie (Ash) Oct 29, GNA – Ms Shirley Kyei, a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, has called on district, municipal and metropolitan assemblies to work towards reducing the financial infractions captured in the report of the Auditor General.
He said it was important for the assemblies to initiate and implement strategies that would help them to recover the financial infractions and position them well to implement development projects and programmes that would improve the living conditions of their people.
Ms Kyei, who is also the Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya South, made the call at the second ordinary meeting of the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal assembly at Nkawie.
The management of the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Assembly and four other district assemblies, were captured on page 25 of the 2024 Auditor-General’s report for not collecting rent dues totaling GHC 681,122, from 357 tenants of government bungalows and other properties of their respective Assemblies, which was laid before the PAC recently.
The other four districts were Ahafo-Ano North and Ahafo Ano South-West District, Ejura-Sekyedumasi Municipal and Kumasi Metropolitan Assemblies.
Ms Kyei described the development of the area and the welfare of the people as her priority and interest, instead of political affiliation, and called on the members to continue to work together to speed up the growth of the area.
The meeting, which was on the theme: “An Agenda for Improved and Quality Livelihoods,” was attended by all the assembly members and heads of departments, and it was aimed at reading, assessing and adopting the Assembly’s 2026 action plan.
The action plan included revenue mobilization, expenditure management, governance, accountability, environmental protection, infrastructure, human settlements, social protection, health, agriculture, education, among others.
Mr Wisdom Osei Boamah, the Municipal Chief Executive, commended the Member of Parliament for sharing a common goal of development and people’s interests in the area.He appealed for continuous collaboration and cooperation, development driven local governance to help leave a positive legacy for the future generation of people in the area.
Former Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has addressed recent claims regarding alleged financial irregularities in the Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS) contract, stating that all payments made under the agreement corresponded to the work completed by the time his administration left office.
His clarification comes after Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh revealed that significant irregularities were discovered in the execution of the LHIMS contract.
Mr. Akandoh disclosed that the matter had been referred to the Attorney General for advice and possible action, following findings that suggested the contractor had received over $77 million despite completing less than half of the expected installations.
Dr. Okoe Boye confirmed that the total value of the Lightwave project was $100 million, explaining that about $76 million had been paid to the contractor in line with the progress of work completed.
“The whole work which they are doing is worth 100 million dollars. They have not been paid more than 100 million dollars. At the time we exited, our reconciliation with them showed that the amount of invoices they had raised and the amount of money they had received was equivalent to 76 million dollars,” he said.
According to the former minister, by the time approximately 450 facilities had been connected, the reconciliation indicated that the value of work executed amounted to about $66 million. This left a surplus of $10 million, which was treated as an advance payment in accordance with the contract terms.
“We sat down with them when we were there, and it was agreed that 10 million dollars would be treated as an advance certificate. In the contract, an advance certificate means money you have ahead of the job,” Dr. Okoe Boye stated.
The LHIMS platform was introduced to digitise and streamline healthcare information across facilities nationwide. The government has since announced plans to replace it with the Ghana Healthcare Information Management System (GHIMS) to enhance efficiency and ensure better data security.

While the Papa Shee wedding videos have been present on social media for about three years already, they have resurfaced amid the brouhaha surrounding Daddy Lumba’s marital life.
Since Lumba’s passing on July 26, 2025, there has been a tussle over who is supposed to perform the widowhood rites at his funeral, scheduled for December 6, 2025.
Akosua Serwaa’s suit against Daddy Lumba’s family
Daddy Lumba’s wife Germany-based wife, Akosua Serwaa, filed a suit seeking to be recognised as the late musician’s only surviving spouse and included the funeral preparations for her husband.

Papa Shee supports Akosua Serwaa in dispute
Since the court proceedings started on October 16, 2025, Papa Shee has been one of the leading figures supporting Akosua Serwaa.
A close associate and family friend of Lumba, Papa Shee has maintained that Serwaa is the only wife of the late Highlife legend, adding that even though he had children with Odo Broni, they were never married.
In their latest appearance in court on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Papa Shee displayed what he described as the marriage documents of Daddy Lumba and Akosua Serwaa to the press to buttress his point.

The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly has constituted a seven member independent committee to investigate Tuesday’s construction incident at “The Address” project site in Roman Ridge.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday October 29, the Ayawaso West Municipal Chief Executive, Dr Michael Mensah said the decision followed an emergency meeting with key stakeholders after the incident.
“We have set up a seven-member independent investigative committee made up of experts from the Engineering Council, Architects Registration Council, NADMO, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly,” he said.
“Their mandate is to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to determine the root cause of the failure and make recommendations to prevent future occurrences.”
The Assembly clarified that the event, which occurred at about 12:15 pm on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, did not involve a total building collapse as earlier reported. Instead, part of a first-floor podium concrete slab being cast gave way.
Fourteen workers sustained injuries and were rushed to the 37 Military and Ridge Hospitals following the incident. Twelve have since been treated and discharged, while two remain in stable condition.
The project is owned by Devtraco Plus Limited, and the Assembly confirmed that the developers possess a valid building permit.
“We want to assure the public that the site owners, Devtraco Limited, have a building permit. However, all work remains suspended pending the outcome of the investigation,” the MCE added.
The committee’s findings are expected to be concluded within two weeks and will be made public.
“The final report will guide stronger enforcement and compliance mechanisms across the municipality,” the MCE emphasised.
Authorities are urging the public and media to rely on official updates for accurate information as the Assembly works to ensure safety and accountability in the built environment.

Ghana will host the inaugural Talking Drums Festival in December, a major hip-hop event featuring over 40 international artists that promises significant economic benefits for Accra.
The 48-hour festival scheduled for December 29-30 is expected to draw tens of thousands of local and international visitors, generating substantial revenue for hotels, restaurants, transport services and local vendors.
The event positions Ghana as a hub for the global Afro-diasporic creative economy and aligns with the national Black Star Initiative connecting the global Black diaspora with Ghana.
Rex Owusu Marfo, Presidential Coordinator for the Black Star Experience, emphasized Ghana’s cultural leadership, stating, “Ghana’s esteemed reputation as the Culture Capital of Africa positions it as the ideal host.”
Beyond immediate economic gains, the festival could stimulate lasting investment in Ghana’s entertainment sector and create opportunities for local entrepreneurs in music production, event management and digital media.
If successful, the event may become an annual fixture with ongoing benefits for tourism and creative industries.
Cardinal Wilfred Fox Napier (L) and Prof Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang (R)
Cardinal Wilfred Fox Napier, OFM, the Special Envoy of Pope Leo XIV, has praised Ghana for its vibrant church and progressive national development.
The Cardinal, who is on an official visit to Ghana as part of his mission from the Holy See, paid a courtesy call on the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang as part of activities marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Roman Catholic hierarchy in Ghana.
Speaking during the visit, the Archbishop Emeritus of Durban, South Africa, Cardinal Napier, lauded Ghana’s commitment to faith, integrity and national progress.
“Ghana should continue doing the wonderful things it is doing. The Church here is vibrant a true sign of how much the country is moving forward,” he remarked.
“Ghana stands out as a leader in Africa. It must continue to show the continent how to run a nation devoid of corruption and filled with purpose,” he added, extending the Holy Father’s blessings to the Government and people of Ghana.
The Vice President, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, in return, expressed appreciation to the Catholic Church for its enduring contributions to Ghana’s human development.
“We thank the Catholic Church for its immense role in shaping education, health, and moral development in Ghana,” she said.
“The Government remains determined to play its part and leave a lasting legacy for future generations,” she affirmed.
The courtesy call underscores the Vatican’s goodwill toward the Government and people of Ghana and reflects the Church’s long-standing collaboration with the State in promoting faith, education, peace and national development.
The 75th anniversary marks a historic milestone, recalling April 18, 1950, when Pope Pius XII elevated Cape Coast to the rank of an Archdiocese and created the Dioceses of Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Keta, thereby formally organizing the Catholic Church’s hierarchy in Ghana.
Adding his voice, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Bodies, commended the strong bond between the Church and the State, describing it as “a model for faith-based collaboration in Africa.”
“This visit by the Papal Envoy is not only symbolic but deeply spiritual. It reaffirms the Church’s historic role in nation-building and social transformation,” Afriyie Ankrah stated.
“Ghana’s example of religious tolerance and unity continues to inspire hope across the continent. We shall continue to deepen this relationship in the spirit of mutual respect and shared service to humanity,” he added.
The event forms part of a series of national and ecclesiastical activities celebrating the diamond jubilee of the Catholic Church’s hierarchical establishment in Ghana, reaffirming the enduring partnership between faith and governance in shaping the nation’s destiny.

Jerome Powell, Chair of the Federal Reserve of the United States
The Federal Reserve on Wednesday lowered interest rates for the second time this year in a continued bid to prevent unemployment from surging.
Fed officials voted for another quarter-point rate cut, lowering their benchmark lending rate to a range between 3.75% and 4%, the lowest in three years.
It is the first time since the Fed’s rate-setting committee was established in the 1930s that officials have set monetary policy while lacking an entire month of crucial government employment data due to a government shutdown.
While most Federal Reserve officials converged around a quarter-point cut at this month’s monetary policy meeting, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Wednesday that officials are already beefing about what to do at the next monetary policy.
“There were strongly differing views about how to proceed in December,” he said at his post-meeting press conference, while stressing that no decisions have been made.
“I always say that. It is a fact that we don’t make (advanced) decisions, but I am saying something in addition here: That it is not to be seen as a foregone conclusion. In fact, far from it.”
The Dow and S&P 500 dipped into the red after Powell’s comment. The Dow fell by more than 200 points, or 0.45%. The broader S&P 500 fell 0.5%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 0.2%.
The Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GhATSEA) will commence an indefinite industrial action from October 30, 2025.
This was contained in a statement issued by the association yesterday and signed by Ing. David Annan Mensah. The action, the association stated, is “in accordance with Section 160 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).
The action will only be called off when all outstanding matters are satisfactorily resolved, one of which is the removal from office of two top executives.
This action, according to the statement, “though regrettable, is the direct consequence of management’s neglect and lack of good faith engagement.” The association has nonetheless apologised to all local and international airline operators, passengers, and the travelling public for any inconvenience this may cause.
The responsibility for any disruptions must be placed squarely on those who have ignored the legitimate cries of the technical professionals who ensure the continuous safety and reliability of Ghana’s air navigation systems, according to the association.
Continuing, the association expressed special worry about what it regards as “the regimental and brazen posture adopted by the Ag. Director-General, Rev. Stephen Arthur, and the Ag. Deputy Director-General (Technical), Mr. Theophilus Ago. The latter, the association noted, “shockingly conveyed a ‘Do your worse’ stance.”
This level of insensitivity towards a body of highly skilled professionals whose daily work underpins the safety and reliability of Ghana’s airspace is both unacceptable and intolerable, the association pointed out.
The association has called for a reset in management’s approach to labour relations and staff welfare.
“We therefore demand the immediate removal of Mr. Ebenezer Sagoe from his position and a comprehensive review and resolution of all outstanding issues that have lingered for far too long. The integrity of the Human Resource office must be restored to preserve industrial harmony and ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of the aviation system,” demands the association.
The association has endured, the statement noted, “a prolonged mishandling of our legitimate grievances by the management of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
“Our patience has been stretched beyond measure, and the silence and inaction on issues that directly affect the morale, motivation, and welfare of key technical professionals, the Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP), have left us deeply disgruntled, demoralised, and feeling neglected and disrespected.”
For years, GhATSEA, according to the statement, “has peacefully petitioned and engaged Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) Management on longstanding matters relating to unfair salary administration, inequitable job placement, and unresolved welfare challenges that have persisted for over fifteen (15) years.” These concerns have been consistently mishandled, with the Director of Human Resource, Mr. Ebenezer Sagoe, at the centre of the mismanagement that has eroded confidence in that office, according to the statement.
The appeals of the association for fair treatment and structural correction have fallen on deaf ears, leaving ATSEPs across all regional airports feeling betrayed and unappreciated for their critical role in maintaining aviation safety.
The industrial action means that the Availability, Accuracy, Serviceability, Reliability, and Integrity of Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS/ATM) systems and services which provide the backbone of air traffic safety cannot be guaranteed, rendering all airports unsafe for local and international airlines to be cleared to take off and land countrywide.
Deputy Ranking Member of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli
The Minority in Parliament has questioned the government’s urgency in proceeding with the vetting to appoint a new Chief Justice while legal proceedings over the removal of Justice Gertrude Torkonoo remain unresolved.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday, Member of Parliament for Gushegu, Alhassan Tampuli Sulemana, said the Minority’s concern is rooted in constitutional propriety and respect for judicial processes, not politics.
He questioned the rationale behind moving to fill the office of the Chief Justice while the legality of Justice Torkonoo’s removal is still before the courts.
“If you haven’t completed the process of reviewing the propriety and legality of her removal, how do you fill the office?” he asked.
He added, “It is very possible that the court may rule that the procedures leading to her removal were flawed, meaning she would have to be reinstated. So, what happens then?”
Mr. Tampuli stated that the country currently has an Acting Chief Justice, ensuring there is no vacuum or paralysis within the judiciary’s operations.
“Since Justice Torkonoo’s suspension in April 2025, the judiciary has continued to function. So we are saying, what is the haste? Whose wishes are we in a hurry to fulfill when there are pending cases before the same judiciary?” he questioned.
The Minority has since filed a motion urging the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to suspend the vetting of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, who has been nominated as the new Chief Justice.
They argue that proceeding with the vetting process while the matter is before the courts could breach due process and prejudice ongoing legal proceedings, potentially undermining public confidence in the judiciary and Parliament’s constitutional oversight role.
The Minority insists that the appropriate course of action is to allow the court process to conclude before any permanent appointment is made, in order to safeguard the integrity of both the judiciary and Parliament.

The Bono Regional Police Command has interdicted several police officers captured in a viral video allegedly accepting money from motorists.
The decision follows the emergence of a social media video showing the officers engaging in what appears to be acts of bribery while on duty.
According to a statement issued by the Command and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer for the Bono Region, the officers involved have been identified and placed under interdiction to pave the way for a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.
The Command emphasised its determination to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and accountability within the Ghana Police Service.
It assured the public that any officers found culpable after the investigations would face appropriate disciplinary and legal actions.
“The Command assures the public of its commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability among its personnel,” the statement read.

The former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company Limited (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has been charged with allegedly stealing and causing financial loss of more than GH¢61 million meant for the purchase and supply of food items for the national school feeding component of the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.
According to the charge sheet filed by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, Aludiba and the Head of Finance, Richard Sam-Asante, who were signatories to NAFCO’s account, allegedly caused a financial loss of GH¢50,879,210 to the state by transferring GH¢69,616,226.29 to Sawtina Enterprise, a company in which a Regional Manager of NAFCO, James Tieku-Apawu, is a shareholder.
Sawtina Enterprise was expected to purchase and supply food items to NAFCO. However, the Attorney-General alleged that only 20 per cent of the money was actually used by Tieku-Apawu for legitimate supplies, while Abdul-Wahab personally received more than GH¢50 million, leading to a significant financial loss to the state.
In addition to this, Aludiba is accused of stealing an extra GH¢10 million from NAFCO, which he allegedly transferred to companies belonging to himself and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni.
In total, Aludiba, his wife, Wuni, Sam-Asante, and two corporate entities — Aludiba Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, and Energy Partners Limited, in which Aludiba owns an 80 per cent stake — have been charged with 24 counts. These include stealing, causing financial loss, money laundering, using public office for personal gain, and the intentional dissipation of public funds.
The Finance Director of NAFCO, Sam-Asante, is currently on the run. The accused persons are expected to be arraigned before the High Court later this week.
Prosecution’s case
The Attorney-General’s facts indicate that, aside from the GH¢50 million, investigations revealed that between February 2017 and February 2019, a total of GH¢5,495,748.36 was paid from NAFCO’s funds to Aludiba Enterprise, a business owned by the former CEO.
The investigation established that Aludiba Enterprise was not a licensed NAFCO buying company and had never traded or dealt with the organisation. In July 2022, NAFCO also transferred GH¢251,050 into the bank account of Energy Partners Limited, even though the company had not rendered any services or supplied goods to NAFCO.
Additionally, the Attorney-General stated that Aludiba caused GH¢4,401,831.58 of NAFCO funds to be paid to one of his wife’s businesses, Alqarni Enterprise, under the pretext that the unregistered company had supplied food items to NAFCO, which was later found to be false.
Between February 2020 and November 2022, Aludiba is alleged to have made several deposits totalling GH¢13,213,501.52 into the bank account of Fa-Hausa Ventures, a business solely owned by his wife.
The prosecution said, “In fact, Fa-Hausa Ventures is the name and style under which Wuni trades. Investigations into the bank transactions of the business reveal that Aludiba, though not formally a partner in Fa-Hausa Ventures, is a signatory to the business’s bank account at the Republic Bank, Labone branch.”
“Further investigations into these deposits have established that the source of the monies was NAFCO, through the bank account of Sawtina Enterprise. Subsequent investigations revealed that the funds deposited into the Fa-Hausa Ventures account were used to purchase properties in prime areas of Accra, Tamale, and elsewhere,” the Attorney-General said.
The Attorney-General added that investigations had also shown that a significant portion of the funds in the Fa-Hausa Ventures bank account — in excess of GH¢161,459,987.27 — had been invested by Aludiba and his wife in financial instruments, securities, and other investment products for their personal benefit.
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh is a former energy minister
The former energy minister and 2024 presidential running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has charged the youth of the party to remain united and committed to the NPP’s ideals as it positions itself for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking as the keynote speaker at the NPP UK Mega Manchester Youth Conference held on October 4, 2025, Dr Opoku Prempeh popularly known as Napo underscored the critical role of the youth in sustaining the party’s legacy and ensuring continued political success.

The conference, which brought together young members and supporters of the party from across the United Kingdom, sought to energize the youth base and inspire leadership rooted in service and patriotism.
Dr Prempeh further reminded attendees that the future of the NPP rests in their hands, urging them to uphold the party’s core values of hard work, integrity, and unity as the surest path to victory in 2028 and beyond.

Short hair won’t stop double-salary scandals’ – Ras Mubarak fires back at Haruna Iddrisu
Sustaining Ghana’s recent macroeconomic gains will depend on tightly linking currency stability with increased domestic production and innovation, the Bank of Ghana has stated.
This was stressed in a speech delivered on behalf of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Johnson Asiama, by his advisor, John Kwakye, at the 14th Ghana Economic Forum in Accra organized by the Business and Financial Times.
According to the central bank, the progress made in consolidating macroeconomic stability must now be translated into structural competitiveness.
“Stability without production is unsustainable, and production without innovation stagnates,” Kwakye stressed.
He noted that recent improvements in sentiment, tighter monetary discipline, and recovery in key sectors demonstrate that Ghana’s macro framework has strengthened. However, he cautioned that stability on its own is not an end, and must now serve as a platform for productive transformation.
He said the value of a currency cannot be defended forever by intervention. It must be earned by what the economy produces.
The Bank of Ghana said its next phase of policy direction is to deepen the link between the real sector and macro stability by promoting value addition and supporting industrial growth. The Governor’s representative cited the emerging reforms in gold trading and reserves management under the new Gold Board Act as one example of how natural resources are being converted into strategic national assets rather than mere export commodities.
He added that innovation, particularly digital financial infrastructure and regulatory frameworks for fintechs, will be a core driver of competitiveness, lower transaction costs, and inclusion. These efforts amplify trust, transparency, and efficiency and when paired with a stable currency and a productive base, turn resilience into sustained growth, he said.
Beyond internal policy actions, the Bank also underscored the need for collaboration with government, financial institutions, and the private sector, especially in long term credit provision to manufacturing and agri processing.
Kwakye also warned that as Ghana approaches an election year, discipline must remain the guiding principle of economic management, observing that fiscal loosening or policy reversals could undermine recent gains. The gains achieved are not trophies to display but responsibilities to defend, he said.
The Bank of Ghana stressed that the continued expansion of productive capacity, supported by reliable energy, consistent regulation, and innovation adoption, will ultimately determine whether the cedi’s stability is durable. When stability, production, and innovation reinforce each other, growth becomes self sustaining, he emphasized.
Ghanaian artiste, Darlington Agyekum, popularly known as D Cryme, has disclosed that several of today’s artistes who boast massive followings on social media still respect and acknowledge the contribution of pioneers like him in the music industry.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on October 28, 2025, the ‘Kill Me Shy’ hitmaker mentioned that while many fans often compare artistes from different generations, the reality behind the scenes tells a different story.
“I don’t compare myself to anyone. Even those we are being compared to most of the time, they doff their hat and give us our flowers when they see us,” he said.
According to him, just because certain moments are not captured on camera does not mean current artistes do not appreciate or respect the crafts of earlier musicians.
“The fact that cameras are not on doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate our crafts. The ones that we revere respect us when we meet one-on-one. Most of them even admit that they’re inspired by us, but people don’t see that part because those moments are not captured,” he stated.
I can fill up Heaven if I am to perform there – D Cryme
D Cryme advised against letting social media narratives distort reality, noting that online attention often misrepresents genuine artistic influences and legacies.
“When you allow social media to deceive you, you will end up where you’re not supposed to be. I appreciate the number of followers I have, and they are organic,” he shared.
He also reflected on his early days in the music industry, pointing out that he achieved massive success at a time when social media was not as dominant as it is today.
“During my era, there was no social media but my songs went global. We are in the social media era but yet some artistes’ songs don’t trend despite the fact that they have the opportunity to make good use of social media. So, it won’t be fair to compare me to current artistes. People still jam to my music, so I can’t compare myself with any artistes,” he added.

Hamza Suhuyini is a member of the NDC Communications Team
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Hamza Suhuyini, has defended the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, amid criticisms over his recent media engagements on ongoing investigations.
The Minority in Parliament has accused Dr Ayine of incompetence and of breaching the constitutional rights of suspects by making prejudicial public comments before their trials.
They cited comments in which Dr Ayine allegedly described the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, Abdul Wahab Hanan, and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), as “lawless looters involved in criminal enterprise.”
AG formally files criminal charges against former NAFCO CEO, 4 others
According to a citinewsroom.com report on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Suhuyini insisted that the Attorney General’s briefings are consistent with democratic governance and accountability.
“If he organises press conferences and makes the facts available to Ghanaians, there’s nothing illegal about it. Perhaps people are confused about the presumption of innocence. It only comes into play when a charge sheet comes before the court,” he explained.
He added that Dr Ayine has been careful not to comment on matters before the courts, arguing that his public briefings help keep citizens informed.
“The presumption of innocence is effective when you have a charge sheet before the court; that is why he’s refraining from running commentary. These press conferences are in line with democratic accountability,” he added.
Suhuyini maintained that the Attorney General’s approach enhances public trust in governance and ensures transparency in the administration of justice.
Here are the 24 charges AG has filed against former NAFCO CEO and his wife
“This government will not run away from letting the people know the case it intends to present to the court. There’s nothing wrong with that. It happens in all serious democracies,” he stressed, the report said.

Apple’s new record comes in a blockbuster year for tech stocks
Apple has just joined an exclusive club: It just became one of the few publicly traded companies to surpass $4 trillion in market value, joining fellow tech giants Nvidia and Microsoft, both of which reached that milestone earlier this year.
Shares of Apple (AAPL) rose 0.1% Tuesday, continuing a sharp rebound, buoyed by strong iPhone 17 sales, including in China, a key market where the company has previously underperformed.
The trend is a reversal of Apple’s fortunes from earlier this year, when the company’s stock tumbled as it navigated a myriad of challenges, from President Donald Trump’s tariffs to AI product delays and pressure to build its smartphones domestically. It lost over $310 billion in market value in one trading day in April.
But the tech juggernaut’s rebound can be taken as a sign that the iPhone is still enough to excite consumers and Wall Street, even as the company falls behind in the AI race. Still, Apple shares are up just over 7% this year, a far cry from the 30.7% gain it saw in 2024, and less than the 17% broader-market gain.
Apple’s new record comes in a blockbuster year for tech stocks, as the AI frenzy has sent tech giants soaring to new heights.
That Nvidia, a critical AI chip provider, and Microsoft, a major player in the cloud market, beat Apple to $4 trillion underscores just how important AI has become to Wall Street. Record-breaking valuations have historically been Apple’s territory.
The company in August 2018 became the first publicly traded company to reach a $1 trillion valuation.
In August 2020, it became the first $2 trillion company, then crossed the $3 trillion threshold in January 2022 – but didn’t close at that level until June 2023.
Wall Street has been eager to cash in on the technology that some believe could be as foundational as the smartphone or the internet, with AI playing a bigger role in everything from office work to health care and education.
For now, however, the iPhone continues to propel Apple to new heights.
“It’s clear to us that (CEO Tim) Cook & Co. has finally found success with iPhone 17, and now the Street awaits for the grand strategic AI roadmap to be unveiled,” Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives wrote in an Oct. 20 note.

In a recent interview on Wontumi TV, Maurice Ampaw claimed that Ibrahim Mahama and GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi would face severe sanctions by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if they returned to power after the 2028 general elections.
He said President John Dramani Mahama’s younger brother would be subjected to the same fate as the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi, has suffered under the NDC government over his alleged involvement in illegal mining activities.
He said:
“Ibrahim Mahama and Sammy Gyamfi will be hot if this current government changes. When we make allegations against you, we won’t need evidence. We will make you report to the security agencies every day,” he said.
“Mahama is going to struggle to protect the legacy of his brother [Ibrahim Mahama] if he destroys Chairman Wontumi,”
The controversial lawyer also called out some Ashantis for allegedly being subservient to Ibrahim Mahama because of his vast wealth.
