Commit to sustainability projects and experience growth – Centre for CSR

0

John Kojo Williams, Co-founder of (CSR) West Africa John Kojo Williams, Co-founder of (CSR) West Africa

The Co-founder of the Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) West Africa, John Kojo Williams, has called on the private sector to actively partner organisations seeking support to implement sustainability projects or impactful social causes in Ghana.

Williams was speaking to a section of the media after sharing practical sustainability funding strategies as a panellist at the Ghana AIDS Commission’s 14th National HIV/AIDS Partnership Forum under the theme: “Harnessing Domestic Resources to end AIDS by 2030”.

Key partners and stakeholders of the Commission attended the event, which was held at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on October 22, 2025.

Williams explained: “Post-COVID and in many parts of the world, reports indicate that global official development assistance is waning and slowing down due to a multiplicity of factors such as political and economic challenges affecting donor countries, shifting priorities and other geopolitical considerations.

“So, countries in the Global South, like Ghana, are encouraged to look inwards, especially to their private sector, to fund social causes and sustainability projects.”

The reduction in the level of official development assistance being experienced by countries in the Global South, according to the Centre for CSR, West Africa, presents a unique and brilliant opportunity for key players in the private sector to partner organisations like the Ghana AIDS Commission to achieve its ambitious but possible objective of ending AIDS in Ghana by 2030.

“It is amazing that CSR and sustainability projects often help unlock opportunities that will contribute positively to the bottom lines of companies when they actively and strategically immerse themselves in these interventions.

A lot of businesses have become admired brands, and their fortunes and patronage have improved significantly due to their commitment to supporting social causes,” Williams revealed.

As the highest policy-making body on HIV/AIDS, Ghana AIDS Commission, operating under the Office of the President, provides effective and efficient leadership in the coordination of programs and activities to provide support, guidance and leadership for the national response to HIV and AIDS in Ghana.

Research indicates that public-private partnerships have been instrumental in enhancing healthcare initiatives across Africa, improving access to treatment, testing, and prevention services.

In Ghana, continued collaboration is critical to achieving the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets and ultimately ending AIDS by 2030.

Williams emphasised the urgent need for multi-sectoral collaboration to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic, which continues to pose a significant public health challenge in Ghana.

“The private sector plays a pivotal role in any nation’s development. Key players in the private sector should open up to collaborations, partnerships and innovative solutions to sustain and scale up Ghana’s HIV/AIDS responses,” he stated.

As Ghana moves toward a vision of an AIDS-free generation, joint efforts between the private sector and the Ghana AIDS Commission are more vital than ever to ensure sustainable, long-term impact.

Speaker Bagbin Warns Absentee MPs Risk Losing Parliamentary Seats

Speaker Alban Bagbin has warned Members of Parliament that continued absence from parliamentary proceedings without permission could result in them vacating their seats, citing poor attendance records since the House resumed.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin expressed strong displeasure on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, over the persistent absence of lawmakers from parliamentary sittings. He warned that MPs who fail to attend without proper authorization risk losing their seats under parliamentary rules.

Addressing the House, Bagbin revealed he had received attendance records for the first and second meetings since Parliament resumed but chose not to publish them. According to the Speaker, “I decided not to publish them, hoping that attendance will improve,” giving legislators an opportunity to correct their behavior before facing consequences.

The warning comes amid growing concerns about legislative effectiveness when significant numbers of MPs are absent from critical debates and votes. Parliamentary rules require members to maintain regular attendance, with provisions allowing the Speaker to declare seats vacant if members absent themselves without reasonable excuse for a specified number of consecutive sittings.

Bagbin’s statement signals increasing frustration with what he views as a lack of commitment by some lawmakers to their constitutional duties. The Speaker has previously emphasized the importance of parliamentary attendance for effective governance and representing constituents.

Ghana’s Parliament has faced periodic criticism over MP absenteeism, particularly during less controversial sessions. The issue affects quorum requirements for passing legislation and conducting parliamentary business. While some absences are authorized for official duties or legitimate reasons, unauthorized absences undermine the institution’s functioning.

The Speaker did not specify how many MPs were absent or identify particular offenders, but his public warning suggests the problem has reached a level requiring formal intervention.

ECG’s financial woes stem more from poor management than low tariffs – FABAG

The President of the Food and Beverages Association of Ghana (FABAG), John Awuni, has attributed the persistent financial challenges facing the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to weak financial management rather than low tariffs.

His remarks follow recent findings by Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which flagged widespread financial indiscipline and operational inefficiencies within ECG.

According to the PAC, the power distributor failed to account for significant public funds, engaged in unapproved expenditures, and exhibited poor internal controls, issues that continue to erode public trust.

Speaking to GhanaWeb Business on October 29, 2025, Reverend Awuni said such practices not only undermine confidence in ECG’s operations but also place an unfair burden on consumers.

“FABAG has taken keen notice of the PAC’s revelations. These findings confirm what we’ve consistently maintained: ECG’s financial woes are not primarily due to inadequate tariffs, but rather stem from poor financial management, revenue leakages, and operational inefficiencies,” he stated.

Awuni urged the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Commission to conduct immediate performance audits and introduce robust accountability measures to ensure the prudent use of public resources.

He also called for a suspension of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s (PURC) ongoing and future tariff review processes, advocating instead for an “efficiency-first” approach.

Under this model, any tariff adjustments would be tied to measurable improvements in ECG’s performance.

FABAG further recommended that ECG publish a clear roadmap outlining cost-cutting measures, strategies to reduce system losses, and reforms aimed at strengthening financial discipline and operational effectiveness.

A CCTV footage has emerged on social media showing a Ghanaian man, alleged to be a military officer in plain clothes, physically assaulting two civilians at a pharmacy.

According to GHOne TV’s report, the alleged military officer demanded a refund of about GH¢ 65.00 after rejecting medication he had sent a boy to purchase on his behalf.

The attendant reportedly informed him that drugs sold are non-refundable, which infuriated the man and led him to assault both the attendant and the woman.

In a video shared by GHOne TV on October 29, 2025, the same day the incident occurred, the visibly angry man, alleged to be a military man, stormed the pharmacy believed to be located at Burma Camp and began speaking to the male shop attendant in an angry tone.

In a sudden turn of events, the man, while exchanging words with the attendant, pushed a female customer who was also present in the shop and began physically assaulting her.

He landed several slaps on the woman’s face before proceeding to beat and slap the male attendant, who was behind the counter, as well.

Despite attempts by other people to calm down the alleged military man, he refused to stop and went after the female customer, who had by then exited the shop after the assault.

After exiting the shop to further attack the woman, the man returned and grabbed a metallic foldable ladder already in the pharmacy and appeared to threaten the shop attendant while demanding his money.

Even eyewitnesses who came to the shop were not spared from the man’s outbursts, as the video showed him angrily shoving them aside.

Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza

Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has assured Parliament that work on the Kasoa–Winneba Road is progressing steadily.

He stated that the contractor has not slowed down, contrary to complaints from some Members of Parliament and residents about delays in the project.

Responding to concerns raised in the House, Agbodza explained that the contractor remains on schedule to complete construction by 2027, adding that the project is proceeding in accordance with the agreed timelines.

He acknowledged, however, that the ongoing works have caused some inconvenience to motorists and residents.

To address this, the Ministry, he said, would work closely with the contractor to make sections of the road more motorable during the construction period to ease travel challenges.

“The Ministry is aware of the concerns of road users, and we are engaging the contractor to improve accessibility even as construction continues,” the Minister assured.

The Kasoa–Winneba Road, a critical link on the Cape Coast–Accra corridor, is expected to ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and improve trade and transportation upon completion.

Akufo-Addo Created NPP Division by Marketing Bawumia Alone” — Asante Boateng Explodes

0

A fierce storm has erupted within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following a fiery outburst by Hon. Asante Boateng, Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South, who accused the party’s leadership of sidelining loyal members while promoting what he described as “nonnative interests.”

Speaking during an interview on Adom TV on Thursday, October 30, 2025, the outspoken MP did not hold back his criticism of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, alleging that the former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo played a major role in creating internal division within the NPP by openly endorsing Bawumia ahead of other senior contenders like Kennedy Agyapong.

According to Hon. Asante Boateng, the decision by the former president to “hype and market only one candidate” ahead of the party’s flagbearer primaries sowed seeds of disunity, mistrust, and resentment among party members who felt betrayed by what he described as a “blatant act of favoritism.”

“We mafia our own people, and it has cost us dearly,” Asante Boateng fumed during the interview. “President Akufo-Addo made it seem like Bawumia was the only person worthy to lead the NPP, but that shouldn’t have been the case. As a leader, he should have given everyone an equal chance — not market one person over the others.”

The lawmaker lamented that the once-united NPP now appears sharply divided, with deep-rooted factions forming around Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong ahead of the 2028 general elections. He noted that the growing rift could severely harm the party’s chances of retaining power if internal reconciliation is not prioritized.

“There’s no peace in the party now. The divisions are real, and it all started when some people were treated as if they were better than others,” he said. “The grassroots are angry because they believe the party is no longer for everyone — it’s become selective, and that’s dangerous.

Hon. Asante Boateng, who has been a long-time critic of internal manipulation within the party, emphasized that the NPP must return to its founding principles of fairness, meritocracy, and respect for all members regardless of their background or loyalty to particular leaders.

He warned that unless the NPP leadership addresses these internal issues, the party could face an unprecedented challenge in the next elections — including voter apathy among its strongholds and disillusionment within its base.

“We can’t allow nonnatives to lead us anymore when those who suffered for the party are being sidelined,” he declared. “If this continues, we will lose not just elections, but our identity as a true democratic party that rewards hard work and sacrifice.”

Asante Boateng also expressed disappointment in what he described as “the new culture of intimidation” within the party, claiming that anyone who questions the leadership or voices dissent is quickly labeled disloyal. He called for a major internal restructuring that promotes unity, truth, and open dialogue among party members.

“You can’t build a strong political movement when you silence those who tell you the truth,” he stressed. “We need to rebuild trust before it’s too late. The NPP must heal itself or risk collapsing under its own arrogance.

The MP’s comments have since sparked intense reactions both within and outside the NPP. Some party insiders have praised him for his courage to speak out, while others accuse him of fueling factionalism and undermining party cohesion at a critical time.

Meanwhile, supporters of Dr. Bawumia have dismissed the allegations, describing them as “baseless and divisive.” According to them, the Vice President has worked tirelessly to serve both the party and the nation, and attacks like this only weaken the NPP’s focus on governance and development.

However, Hon. Asante Boateng remains unmoved. He insists that speaking the truth, no matter how uncomfortable, is necessary if the party is to survive its internal crisis and prepare for a united front in the upcoming elections.

“I’m not afraid to speak the truth. The NPP belongs to all of us, not a few privileged people. If telling the truth makes me an enemy, so be it — I will continue to speak for those who have been ignored and disrespected,” he said defiantly.

Political analysts say Boateng’s comments reflect growing frustration among a section of NPP lawmakers and grassroots supporters who feel alienated by what they perceive as elitism and selective favoritism within the party’s leadership structure.

As the NPP braces itself for a tense internal reorganization ahead of the 2028 elections, many are watching closely to see whether the leadership will heed calls for reconciliation — or continue down a path that could deepen divisions and threaten its political dominance.

Lace Styles for Mummies

0

Lace has long been a symbol of grace, femininity, and timeless beauty. For many African women—affectionately referred to as “mummies”—lace is more than just a fashion choice; it is a cultural statement and an embodiment of elegance. Whether it’s for weddings, church services, or special family events, lace fabrics hold a special place in the hearts and wardrobes of mature women across Africa and the diaspora.

Classic lace styles such as corded lace, French lace, and Swiss voile lace are top favorites among mummies. These materials are celebrated for their rich texture, durability, and sophisticated patterns. Corded lace, in particular, is known for its raised embroidery which gives it a luxurious look perfect for traditional outfits like iron and buba, wrapper and blouse, or boubous. Mummies often choose rich colors like royal blue, wine, emerald green, or champagne gold to reflect their status and style.

While traditional styles remain popular, many mummies are embracing modern cuts and tailoring in their lace fashion. Designers are now blending lace with other fabrics such as silk, velvet, or Ankara to create elegant and versatile outfits. Peplum tops with fitted skirts, cape blouses, and even flowing maxi gowns with lace detailing are becoming more common at social gatherings. These modern lace styles allow mummies to maintain modesty while still showcasing a flair for fashion.

Lace styles are often enhanced with sequins, pearls, beads, and rhinestones to add sparkle and glamour. These embellishments are particularly popular for occasion wear, where the goal is to stand out while remaining dignified. Accessories such as gele (head tie), statement jewelry, and matching handbags complete the look, giving mummies a regal and polished appearance.

In summary, lace styles for mummies are a perfect blend of tradition, elegance, and contemporary fashion. Whether opting for a classic design or a modern twist, lace remains an enduring fabric that allows mummies to express grace, confidence, and cultural pride.

NPP national executive committee will decide on Paul Afoko’s chairmanship intent — Dep Gen Secretary

0

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will meet to decide on the intent of suspended former Chairman of the party, Awentami Paul Afoko, to contest the party’s chairmanship.

The Deputy General Secretary of the party, Haruna Mohammed, told the Daily Graphic that Mr Afoko remains a member of the party, as he has not joined another or formed a new one, since his suspension as Chairman in 2015.

He explained that the party had granted amnesty to several suspended members and was confident that  NEC would also review Mr Afoko’s case.

Moreover, he said that since his suspension as party chairman, Mr Afoko has conducted himself well and has done nothing to bring the party’s name into disrepute.

“The party has no problem with him and will decide on his case when NEC looks into his case,” he stated.

Contest

On his decision to contest for the chairmanship position again, Mr Mohammed explained that every election came with its guidelines to be set by NEC.

He said NEC has yet to establish the guidelines for the contest for national executive positions, nor has it opened the nominations for them.

Afoko’s return

Mr Afoko last Tuesday announced his intention to seek re-election for the party’s top executive position for a second time.

In a statement issued in Accra last Tuesday, Mr Afoko said his decision to contest for the chairmanship followed “extensive reflection and encouragement from many well-meaning members, supporters and stakeholders of the New Patriotic Party.”

It stressed the need for “renewed leadership rooted in the founding values and democratic ideals” of the NPP.

It acknowledged the personal difficulties he (Afoko) endured, noting that the journey “has not been without its trials,” but stressed that he has “always chosen to prioritise the unity and progress of the NPP”.

Agenda

Mr Afoko’s spokesperson, Nana Yaw Osei, told the Daily Graphic that Mr Afoko would be seeking to rebuild and strengthen the party with a commitment to re-energise the party structure; promote inclusivity by ensuring the party was broad-based and representative of all stakeholders.

He said Mr Afoko would lead the party with accountability, a clear sense of purpose, integrity and transparency.

Political career

Mr Afoko first won the NPP Chairmanship position on April 12, 2014, at a party congress in Tamale, becoming the first person of northern Ghanaian extraction (a Builsa from the Upper East Region) to occupy the national chairmanship post.

His chairmanship was marred by severe factional conflicts and allegations of undermining the then-flag bearer, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

This resulted in his indefinite suspension in 2015 by the party’s disciplinary committee.

This action, alongside the suspension of General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong and Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe at the time, plunged the party into a deep constitutional crisis that was ultimately contested in court.

Mr Afoko pursued a reformist agenda to strengthen grassroots structures during his tenure.

He famously implemented a financial initiative where he ‘pushed GH₵10,000’ into every constituency to ensure they opened and maintained bank accounts, a measure he insisted was to modernise party operations and ensure transparency, despite facing strong internal opposition.

Return

Mr Afoko’s second bid for the chairmanship signifies a persistent belief that his suspension—which he disputed as both legally and constitutionally flawed—was unjust.

His declaration signals a change of heart, driven by a desire to fulfil his mandate to reform the party’s institutional framework.

Chairmanship aspirants

Aside from Mr Afoko’s declaration of intent to contest for the chairmanship position, other party stalwarts such as Boakye Ayarko, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, John Boadu and Kankam Boadu have all declared their intention to seek election as chairman of the party.

Trump directs nuclear weapons testing to resume for first time in over 30 years

0

President Donald Trump called on US military leaders to resume testing US nuclear weapons in order to keep pace with other countries such as Russia and China.

“Because of other countries’ testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis,” he wrote on social media just before meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.

The US has more nuclear weapons than any other country, Trump said, with Russia second and China a “distant third”. It has not conducted nuclear weapons testing since 1992.

It comes just days after Trump denounced Russia for testing a nuclear-powered missile, which reportedly has an unlimited range.

Trump’s post on Wednesday night acknowledges the “tremendous destructive power” of nuclear weapons, but said he had “no choice” but to update and renovate the US arsenal during his first term in office.

He also said that China’s nuclear programme “will be even within 5 years”.

Trump’s post did not include details of how the tests would occur, but wrote the “process will begin immediately”.

It marks an apparent reversal of a long-standing US policy. The last US nuclear weapons test was in 1992, before former Republican President George HW Bush issued a moratorium as the Cold War ended.

Trump’s post came just before Xi landed in South Korea for the first face-to-face meeting between the two since 2019. The post appeared as he was aboard a helicopter, Marine One, while en route to meet Xi at Gimhae International Airport.

On Air Force One after the two leaders’ meeting, Trump said the nuclear test sites would be determined later, but reiterated it was “appropriate” for the US to match other countries in testing.

Russia announced over the weekend that it had successfully tested two new weapons capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

These included a missile which the Kremlin said could penetrate US defence systems, and an underwater drone called Poseidon, capable of hitting the American west coast and triggering radioactive ocean swells.

However, those tests did not involve the detonation of nuclear weapons.

According to the US think tank Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), China has roughly doubled its nuclear arsenal in the past five years and is expected to exceed 1,000 weapons by 2030.

The US’s own nuclear stockpile sits at around 5,225 warheads, while Russia has approximately 5,580, the Arms Control Association reported.

Trump’s statement also comes around 100 days before the expiration of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New Start) in February 2026 – the last remaining nuclear arms treaty between the US and Russia.

The agreement limits each country to 1,550 warheads on deployed missiles capable of crossing continents.

The last time the US tested a nuclear bomb was 23 September 1992. The test took place at an underground facility in the western state of Nevada.

The project, code-named Divider, was the 1,054th nuclear weapons test conducted by the US, according to the Los Alamos National Laboratory, which played a central role in helping develop the world’s first atomic bomb.

The Nevada Test Site, 65 miles (105km) north of Las Vegas, is still operated by the US government.

“If deemed necessary, the site could be authorised again for nuclear weapons testing,” according to the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History, which is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.

The US first marched into the nuclear era with the Trinity test of the first atomic bomb in July 1945 in the desert at Alamogordo, New Mexico.

It later became the only country in the world to use nuclear weapons in warfare after dropping two atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima in August of the same year during World War Two.

Raila’s impact on Africa’s democracy will stand the test of time

0

Former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga

Former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo has paid glowing tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a towering figure whose role in shaping democracy across Africa will never be forgotten.

Speaking at Raila’s Kang’o Ka Jaramogi home in Siaya County on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, during his condolence visit to the Odinga family, Akufo-Addo said Raila’s legacy transcends Kenya’s borders and continues to inspire democratic governance across the continent.

“The reason for my presence here is not very far to seek. The man we are mourning is one of the great sons, not just of Kenya, but of our continent of Africa. His contribution to the growth of democracy in Kenya and in Africa can never, ever be forgotten,” he said.

Akufo-Addo noted that he travelled from Ghana to pay his last respects because he regarded Raila as a continental leader whose vision, courage, and commitment to democratic ideals defined a generation.

He recalled their last engagement when Raila was seeking the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, noting that Ghana did not hesitate to support his bid due to his proven leadership and integrity.

“I did not hesitate to commit the support of Ghana to his candidature because I knew that he was a man who would be fitting and very capable of doing the work. So I came here today to personally express to his widow, his family, and the people of Kenya my deep-seated condolences on his passing. To be able to do so on this occasion has been a great satisfaction to me,” he added.

The former Ghanaian president further said that throughout his career, he had the opportunity to work closely with several Kenyan leaders, including former Attorney General Amos Wako and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, among others.

During the visit, Akufo-Addo was accompanied by a delegation of Kenyan leaders, among them National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, KANU Chairman Gideon Moi, Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, Environment Cabinet Secretary Deborah Mulongo, and former West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio.

Despite heavy rains, mourners and dignitaries gathered at the Odinga homestead to honour a man whose political career spanned decades and whose influence remains deeply felt.

Wetang’ula described Raila as “a true giant of Kenya’s democratic journey, whose fingerprints are deeply imprinted in the nation’s fight for justice, equality and freedom.”

“The continued flow of mourners at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, even a week after Baba’s burial, speaks volumes about the love and respect Kenyans and friends from across the world had for him. He made countless sacrifices for peace, unity, and prosperity, a level of selflessness rarely seen in politics,” Wetang’ula said.

He urged leaders and citizens to uphold Raila’s vision for a peaceful, united, and prosperous nation, saying his death should unite the country around the ideals he stood for.

Entire Ukrainian Family Killed in Russian Drone Strike, Officials Say

0

Ukrainian firefighters tackled a blaze at a house destroyed in a Russian drone attack in the village of Chernechchyna.

An entire family — a married couple and their two young sons — have been killed in an overnight Russian drone attack in Ukraine’s north-eastern Sumy region, local officials have said.

Regional head Oleh Hryhorov stated that a residential building was hit in the village of Chernechchyna. The bodies of the two children, aged four and six, and their parents were later recovered from the wreckage.

Ukraine’s air force reported that its units shot down 46 out of 65 Russian drones across the country — but there were 19 direct hits in six locations. Russia’s military has not commented. In a statement, it said 81 Ukrainian drones were destroyed overnight in five Russian regions, with no casualties reported.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

In a post on Telegram on Tuesday morning, Hryhorov accused Russian forces of deliberately targeting a residential building in Chernechchyna. He said the loss of an entire family was “a tragedy that we will never forget or forgive.”

Ukraine’s State Emergencies Service (DSNS) later reported that two residential buildings were partially destroyed in the village. It also posted photos showing firefighters tackling blazes after the Russian strike.

In recent weeks, Russia has intensified its aerial assaults on Ukraine, regularly launching hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles. Ukraine has long urged its Western allies to provide it with advanced air defence systems to cope with almost daily Russian strikes.

Kyiv has also been seeking Western missiles capable of hitting major Russian cities far from the front line, arguing that such weapons would weaken Russia’s military industry and pressure President Vladimir Putin to negotiate.

Last week, US Vice-President JD Vance said Washington was considering Ukraine’s request for long-range Tomahawk missiles, which — if supplied — would put Moscow and other major Russian cities within reach of Ukraine’s military.

On Tuesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced: “We have agreed with Ukraine that a total of $2bn (£1.7bn) will be spent on drones now. This allows Ukraine to scale up and to use its full capacity. And of course, it will also allow the European Union to benefit from this technology,” she added.

US President Donald Trump and Europe have been leading efforts to end the war — but Putin has repeatedly rejected calls for a ceasefire. Kyiv and its allies accuse the Russian president of stalling tactics as his troops continue making slow progress on the battlefield, despite reports of very high combat casualties.

RNAQ Holdings Launches GH₵300 Million Fund for Growing Businesses

0

Richard Nii Armah Quaye
Richard Nii Armah Quaye

RNAQ Holdings and Quick Angels Limited launched a GH₵300 million Scale-Up Fund on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Auditorium, marking what industry observers describe as a pivotal moment in Ghana’s entrepreneurial financing landscape.

The initiative, themed “Scaling Dreams, Building Structures,” targets existing Ghanaian small and medium enterprises ready to expand sustainably and compete globally. Unlike traditional startup funding, this fund focuses exclusively on businesses that have already proven their viability and are positioned for growth.

President of RNAQ Holdings, Richard Nii Armah Quaye, stated that Ghana doesn’t lack talent or ideas but often lacks the capital and systems to scale. Speaking to entrepreneurs, investors, and government representatives at the launch event, he emphasized that scaling requires more than courage; it demands structure, discipline, and strategic capital alignment.

Quick Angels Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Lamptey described the fund as a bridge between potential and prosperity. He revealed that over 300 Ghanaian-owned enterprises across agriculture, manufacturing, technology, fashion, and renewable energy sectors have already applied, collectively requesting more than GH₵1.3 billion in growth capital.

The response demonstrates significant pent-up demand for growth financing among established businesses. Nearly 40 percent of applicants are female-led businesses, reflecting the initiative’s gender-inclusive approach and the growing presence of women entrepreneurs in Ghana’s business ecosystem.

Quick Angels’ track record provides credibility to the ambitious initiative. The firm has invested in several successful Ghanaian brands, including Pizzaman-Chickenman, which has expanded to over 100 outlets nationwide, Sankofa Natural Spices, Lynx Entertainment, Pinkberry Ghana, and Burger King franchises. These portfolio companies collectively employ thousands of Ghanaians and have redefined their respective sectors.

Lamptey emphasized that Quick Angels offers more than money. Partnership includes governance frameworks, mentoring, and operational discipline to help businesses not just rise but endure. This hands-on approach distinguishes the fund from traditional lending institutions that typically demand collateral young entrepreneurs can’t provide.

The philosophy underpinning the Scale-Up Fund challenges conventional Ghanaian business thinking. Quaye pointed to global examples where successful entrepreneurs own relatively small stakes in their companies yet achieve billionaire status. Elon Musk owns approximately 13 percent of Tesla, Jeff Bezos holds about 10 percent of Amazon, and Bill Gates retains just 1 percent of Microsoft, yet their wealth remains substantial because they focused on building greatness rather than maintaining total control.

This shared ownership model, common in advanced economies, allows companies to raise significant capital through multiple investors’ contributions. When diverse individuals own stakes, they bring unique strengths and resources, making businesses more resilient against future challenges. The approach represents a cultural shift in Ghana, where business ownership traditionally concentrates in family hands.

Quick Angels, recognized as Ghana’s first institutionalized angel investor company, has invested over GHS 500 million across more than 30 Ghanaian-owned businesses since its founding. The portfolio demonstrates breadth, spanning quick-service restaurants, natural spices manufacturing, medical facilities, creative industries, telecommunications, and cosmetics.

The Scale-Up Fund application process remains open through the RNAQ Holdings website, with selected entrepreneurs receiving opportunities to pitch directly to investment decision-makers. The fund targets Ghanaian entrepreneurs between ages 20 and 45 who operate existing businesses ready for systematic growth.

Quaye’s vision extends beyond individual success stories to institutional systems that create an enduring pipeline of business growth. He argued that Ghana’s economic story won’t be written by speeches or promises but by partnerships formed, ideas backed, and businesses built with proper structure.

The initiative arrives as Ghana pursues economic transformation through private sector development. With traditional banking often inaccessible to growing businesses without substantial collateral, equity financing fills a critical gap in the capital ecosystem. Young entrepreneurs with viable businesses but insufficient assets now have alternative pathways to expansion capital.

Both speakers at the launch event stressed that funding alone won’t guarantee success. Entrepreneurs must demonstrate clarity about their numbers, business models, and missions. They should articulate not only what they’re building but what problems they’re solving and how their businesses can endure beyond the next 12 months.

The Scale-Up Fund represents RNAQ Holdings’ commitment to removing individuals from company structures and replacing them with systems that last. This philosophy extends Quaye’s broader vision of building wealth through sustainable structures rather than personality-driven enterprises.

As Ghana navigates economic challenges, private equity initiatives like the Scale-Up Fund offer hope that local businesses can scale sustainably, create employment, and compete regionally and globally. The question now shifts from whether capital exists to support growing businesses to which entrepreneurs will demonstrate the discipline, structure, and vision to attract and effectively deploy that capital.

Mercury vapour in mining towns 150 times above safe limit – Expert warns

The report, which assessed mercury and other heavy metals in mining areas across six regions The report, which assessed mercury and other heavy metals in mining areas across six regions

Airborne mercury levels in some small-scale mining communities across Ghana have risen to alarming levels – more than 150 times higher than global safety limits, according to a new national study by Pure Earth and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The report, which assessed mercury and other heavy metals in mining areas across six regions, described the situation as an escalating environmental and public health emergency.

At Wassa Kayianko in the Western Region, mercury vapour averaged 1.84 microgrammes per cubic metre (µg/m³) – surpassing the global safety limit of 1 µg/m³ by 84 percent.

The highest reading recorded was 150.2 µg/m³, indicating extreme exposure risks for residents.

Dr Esmond Wisdom Quansah, Country Director-Pure Earth, warned that gaseous mercury poses immediate danger because it is directly inhaled into the body. “Mercury in its gaseous state is more deadly – the effects can be instantaneous,” he told B&FT.

The Mercury and Other Heavy Metals Impact Assessment, conducted between August 2024 and September 2025, covered the Ashanti, Western, Eastern, Savannah, Central and Western North Regions.

Water samples from Lake Amponsah (Western North), Asiakwa (Eastern) and Nyamebekyere (Western) contained mercury levels up to 0.01 mg/L – ten times Ghana’s national limit.

Soil samples from Konongo Zongo (Ashanti Region) contained an average of 56.4 parts per million (ppm) of mercury, exceeding the global soil guideline of 10 ppm. Other sites Prestea, Dakrupe and Konongo Odumase – also showed contamination well above permissible levels.

Food crops such as spinach and tomatoes recorded mercury levels between 0.01 mg/kg and 4 mg/kg, within WHO/FAO limits. However, Dr. Quansah cautioned that without testing for methylmercury – the most toxic form – the real dietary risk may be underestimated.

The study also found lead (Pb) and arsenic (As) contamination threatening both soil and water quality.

Water from Asiakwa contained 0.47 mg/L of lead, far exceeding Ghana’s drinking-water limit of 0.01 mg/L. Fish from Konongo Zongo and Akwaboso (Central Region) contained lead concentrations up to 2.8 mg/kg, surpassing the WHO/FAO guideline of 0.3 mg/kg.

In addition, soil arsenic levels reached 10,060 ppm in some locations – more than 40 times the international guideline of 25 ppm. Water samples from Konongo Odumase, Nyamebekyere and Ankobrah showed arsenic concentrations up to 3.3 mg/L – far above the WHO limit of 0.01 mg/L.

Dr Quansah warned that exposure to mercury, lead and arsenic can cause IQ loss in children, neurological damage, reproductive complications, kidney and liver failure and even death. He cited findings by Pure Earth and UNICEF linking chronic lead exposure to miscarriages and stillbirths.

He stressed that the report’s aim is not to create fear but rather urge authorities to act swiftly. “This is a call for urgency, not panic – we must protect Ghanaians’ health and the environment,” he said.

While acknowledging ongoing government efforts, Dr Quansah called for faster policy reforms and stronger enforcement. He also encouraged the adoption of mercury-free mining technologies already implemented successfully in Peru, Colombia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Evidence Leaks as BNI Reportedly Ordered to Storm OSP Residence for Operation, Mugabe Reveals

0

Fresh tension has erupted within Ghana’s security and anti-corruption institutions following shocking reports that the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), now known as the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), has allegedly been ordered to storm the residence of the Special Prosecutor for a secret operation. The explosive revelation was made by broadcast journalist Mugabe Maase, who claimed that new evidence had leaked, prompting the move.

According to the reports circulating across social media and political platforms, the intelligence operation is allegedly linked to sensitive documents and materials said to be in the possession of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). Sources claim the BNI was directed to retrieve certain classified evidence believed to have been concealed or withheld from ongoing corruption investigations involving high-profile figures.

In a bold revelation during his radio program, Mugabe Maase alleged that the supposed operation was triggered after insiders leaked credible intelligence indicating that some files under investigation had been hidden at the residence of the Special Prosecutor. “The BNI has been ordered to move in. Evidence has leaked, and those files cannot disappear,” Mugabe reportedly stated, stressing that the security agencies are treating the issue with urgency.

This revelation has since set off a wave of speculation and debate among political commentators, with many questioning the motive behind such an operation. Some analysts believe the move, if confirmed, could point to growing tension between the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and other state security institutions.

The OSP, currently headed by Kissi Agyebeng, has recently found itself at the center of controversy following reports of investigations into government officials, asset seizures, and conflicts with the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO). Just last week, reports surfaced that EOCO officials had clashed with the OSP over the handling of frozen assets and the release of certain case files.

Political observers say the latest development, involving the alleged BNI operation, adds to the growing perception of division and mistrust among Ghana’s key anti-corruption agencies. “It’s clear something serious is happening behind the scenes,” one political analyst commented. “If the BNI has truly been ordered to act, it means the issue has escalated to a national security level.”

Meanwhile, Mugabe Maase insists that his information is credible and came directly from reliable insider sources. He further alleged that certain top government officials were aware of the planned move, which could take place discreetly to avoid public attention. “This is not rumor. It’s happening quietly, but it’s big,” he added during his broadcast.

However, as of now, neither the BNI (NIB) nor the Office of the Special Prosecutor has issued an official statement confirming or denying the claims. The alleged development has, nonetheless, caused widespread discussion online, with many Ghanaian demanding transparency and accountability from both institutions.

Some social media users have expressed fears that the incident could signal an attempt to cover up critical evidence in ongoing corruption cases, while others believe it may be a lawful operation aimed at ensuring proper custodianship of national documents.

As the story continues to develop, Ghanaian await official clarification from both the OSP and national security agencies. For now, the nation remains on edge, as the alleged power struggle between Ghana’s anti-corruption institutions deepens with every new revelation.

How NIB can clean up public service -Dr Hene Aku Kwapong writes

0

When it comes to public accountability, Ghana still relies far too much on trust where verification is required. In modern governance, integrity cannot be assumed; it must be proven.

That is why asset declaration should no longer be a bureaucratic ritual, but a National Intelligence Bureau (NIB)–led process — one that certifies every public officeholder before they assume power.

This reform has now become urgent and non-negotiable. In recent months, Ghanaians have witnessed an alarming flood of corruption scandals — theft, embezzlement, and misuse of public funds — by officials entrusted with national resources. Practically every week brings a new revelation of misappropriation or unaccounted wealth. These incidents are not isolated; they are symptoms of a system that lacks transparency, verification, and deterrence. Without structural reform, the moral and fiscal cost of corruption will continue to erode national credibility and trust in governance.

I have seen how effective such systems can be. When I went through the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) clearance process for a public role in New York City, it was exhaustive — a full audit of my financial, professional, and personal integrity. It was not red tape. It was a firewall against corruption. Ghana — and every democracy that values public trust — deserves the same.

Beyond Paperwork: Making Integrity Verifiable

Let us be candid: Ghana’s current asset declaration regime has become largely ceremonial. Politicians fill out forms, deposit them at the Audit Service, and move on. There is little verification, minimal follow-up, and no serious deterrent.

Yet asset declaration is not about appraising how much someone is worth; it is about transparent disclosure of interests. It is not asset valuation — it is asset accountability. The goal is to establish a clear, factual baseline of what a public official owns before entering office. Without that baseline, there is no objective way to detect unexplained enrichment later.

By knowing what officials own at the start, citizens and oversight bodies can more easily track changes that suggest corruption. Asset declaration, then, is not an exercise in curiosity but a preventive instrument of integrity.

The BNI, with its investigative powers, access to financial intelligence, and authority to coordinate across agencies, is uniquely suited to own and certify this process. What Ghana needs is not more paperwork, but institutional verification.

A BNI-Certified System for Public Trust

Here is what a reformed system would look like:

  • Every public office candidate — from minister to district assembly member — must undergo NIB-led asset verification before assuming office.

• Any undisclosed, inconsistent, or unverifiable asset leads to automatic disqualification.

• Completion and certification by the NIB becomes a constitutional prerequisite for appointment, election, or swearing-in.

This approach moves Ghana from a reactive anti-corruption model — one that prosecutes after damage is done — to a preventive framework that blocks the unqualified and the compromised from public service altogether.

Other nations already do this effectively. In Singapore, public officials are required to make detailed disclosures to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), whose oversight is both confidential and uncompromising. South Korea’s Public Service Ethics Act demands annual declarations cross-checked against tax and property databases. And in the United Kingdom, ministers and senior civil servants must submit conflict-of-interest statements to independent ethics advisers, with sanctions for omissions.

The FBI model used in the United States is just one example; these systems share a simple philosophy — prevention is stronger than prosecution.

The Economics of Integrity

Corruption is not merely a moral failing; it is an economic inefficiency. It inflates project costs, distorts market competition, and deters both local and foreign investment. Investors watch governance standards the way bond traders watch inflation — with acute sensitivity.

When public officials’ wealth cannot be explained or verified, markets lose confidence in the institutions that regulate them. Conversely, a NIB-certified asset declaration system would tell citizens and investors alike that Ghana is serious about transparency.

Integrity is not an abstract virtue — it is economic capital. Clean governance reduces transaction costs, increases investor confidence, and raises the credibility of national institutions.

The Moral Imperative

There is also a deeper moral truth. Public service is not a private opportunity; it is a public trust. To hold office is to place one’s personal interests in escrow — to say, “I have nothing to hide, and I invite scrutiny.”

If heaven, as the saying goes, is for the pure in heart, then public office should be for the transparent in assets. A NIB-certified declaration process is not just the best way to clean governance — it is the only way to it.

No assets, no office. The only way to heaven.

Content of Atta Akyea’s prohibition application dismissed by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has thrown out the prohibition application filed by lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea on behalf of his client, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, in a bid to prevent Justice John Eugene Nyante Nyadu from continuing to preside over their ongoing criminal trial.

In a unanimous decision on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, a five-member panel of the apex court presided over by Justice Avril Lovelace Johnson dismissed the application on grounds that it lacked merit and failed to meet the legal threshold required to prohibit a sitting judge.

Agbeko Spotted Begging Andy Dosty For Money During Radio Appearance

Ghanaian musician Agbeko has sparked conversations online after being spotted in what appeared to be an uncomfortable situation during a radio interview with Hitz FM’s Andy Dosty. The artist, known for his once-promising career in the Ghanaian music industry, looked visibly unkempt and reportedly asked the popular media personality for financial assistance during their interaction.

According to eyewitness accounts and viral clips circulating on social media, Agbeko appeared to be in distress as he approached Andy Dosty in the studio, pleading for help to support his current condition. Many fans were taken aback by his appearance, expressing concern over the singer’s wellbeing and wondering what might have led to his apparent financial struggles.

Andy Dosty, known for his calm and compassionate nature, reportedly comforted Agbeko during the moment, assuring him of support. The emotional scene has since drawn sympathy from fans and fellow musicians, with several calling for the entertainment industry to do more in supporting struggling artistes who once contributed to Ghana’s music growth.

Agbeko, who rose to fame with several notable songs years ago, has kept a low profile in recent times. His sudden reappearance, however, has shed light on the harsh realities faced by many Ghanaian artistes after the spotlight fades.

Fans on social media have urged the musician to seek help and also encouraged others in the industry to show solidarity. Meanwhile, some have praised Andy Dosty for his kindness and humility in handling the situation with respect and empathy.

The incident serves as a wake-up call for industry stakeholders to put in place measures that ensure the welfare and sustainability of artistes beyond their peak years.

I have really learnt a lot in opposition, if we win power again, I won’t use a V8- Henry Kokofu

0

Henry Kwabena Kokofu, the former Member of Parliament for Bantama, has shared the lessons he has drawn from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) time in opposition.

In a forthright conversation, Kokofu stressed the value of sincerity in political life, pledging to adopt a more transparent and accountable leadership style should the NPP return to office.

He lamented that many politicians shy away from the truth, a habit he believes creates needless problems and undermines public confidence in governance.

His reflections came during a discussion on the contentious energy sector levy, which has been met with public criticism.

While the levy was designed to address outstanding debts in the energy sector, many have complained that it was introduced without adequate input from key stakeholders and could destabilize the petroleum market.

Speaking on United Television, Kokofu admitted that the NDC government might have reasonable grounds for the policy, but argued that the same measure would have been fiercely condemned if introduced by the NPP.

He called for honesty and consistency from political leaders when engaging citizens on national issues.

On a personal note, Kokofu disclosed that he has stopped using a government-issued V8 vehicle since his party lost power and plans to maintain that stance even if the NPP returns to government. “Being in opposition has taught me a lot. I won’t go back to using a V8 when we come back,” he remarked.

His statements have fueled public debate about integrity in leadership and how politicians’ personal decisions mirror their principles.

Good News for Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo as New Evidence Clears Her of Allegations

0

After weeks of public speculation and uncertainty, suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has received positive news that could pave the way for her reinstatement. New evidence emerging from an internal judicial review has reportedly cleared her of the key allegations that led to her suspension, marking a major turning point in one of Ghana’s most closely watched judicial controversies.

According to insiders, these developments have triggered high-level discussions within both government and judicial circles about her possible reinstatement as Chief Justice. The committee’s findings are reportedly being finalized, and a formal announcement could be made soon after procedural reviews are completed.

Justice Torkornoo’s suspension had sent shockwaves through Ghana’s legal community, sparking intense debate and criticism from civil society organizations, legal experts, and human rights advocates. Many had argued that the move was politically driven and unjustified, suggesting that it undermined the independence of the judiciary.

The news has been met with widespread celebration on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing relief and support for the embattled Chief Justice. Supporters described her as a woman of principle who remained calm and dignified despite the intense pressure surrounding her suspension.

Justice Torkornoo, known for her strong ethical stance and judicial reforms, was appointed as Ghana’s Chief Justice in 2023. Her tenure was marked by efforts to modernize court systems, enhance transparency, and improve public access to justice. Her sudden suspension earlier this year shocked many within the legal fraternity, with some viewing it as an attempt to derail reform efforts.

While the full details of the review committee’s findings have yet to be made public, sources indicate that the official report will highlight procedural lapses and questionable testimonies that led to her suspension.

As the nation awaits an official announcement, optimism is growing that Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo could soon return to her position — a move that many see as both a personal triumph and a moment of renewed hope for Ghana’s judicial integrity.

If confirmed, her reinstatement will not only mark the end of a turbulent chapter but also reinforce the principle that justice, though delayed, can indeed prevail.

During a broadcast on Peace FM, Pratt described his emotional reaction to a video showing Wontumi, expressing that the politician’s frailty moved him to tears. “It was heartbreaking. Watching him struggle to walk was difficult,” Pratt said. “Allegations aside, we must respect the health and dignity of every individual. Chairman Wontumi was detained after an interrogation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Accra over allegations including illegal mining, environmental damage, and unlawful entry into restricted forest areas. He was granted bail on strict conditions, requiring GH₵50 million and two verified sureties.

The incident has reignited public debate on how suspects are treated in custody, with Pratt emphasizing that law enforcement must maintain humane standards while conducting investigations. Guinness Ghana records strongest performance in company’s history despite economic volatility

0

Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC has reported its strongest financial performance in company history for the year ended June 30, 2025, demonstrating resilience and strategic discipline amid Ghana’s fluctuating economic climate.

The announcement was made by Board Chairman Felix Addo in the company’s annual report to shareholders.

According to Mr Addo, the year under review was one of “resilience and renewal,” as the company not only navigated macroeconomic headwinds but also achieved record growth.

Revenue rose by 52 per cent to GH₵3.59 billion, while operating profit surged by an unprecedented 448 per cent.

Net profit also grew sharply to GH₵334 million, up from GH₵34 million in 2024, underscoring strong execution and management efficiency.

A major highlight of the year was the successful sale of Diageo’s majority stake in Guinness Ghana to Boissons Nouvelles Holding, a subsidiary of the Castel Group. Mr Addo described the transaction as a “landmark transition” that ushers in a new era of growth for the company.

Under the new arrangement, Guinness Ghana retains the licensed rights to produce and distribute Guinness and other Diageo brands in Ghana under long-term agreements, while also continuing to distribute Diageo’s international premium spirits through a separate distribution deal.

Mr Addo noted that Castel brings a strong African presence, a solid track record in beverage production, and the ambition to scale Guinness Ghana into its next phase of growth.

He expressed confidence that the combination of Castel’s long-term commitment and the strength of Guinness Ghana’s brands and workforce will drive greater value creation and sustainable expansion for shareholders.

Despite inflation peaking at 23.8 per cent in December 2024 and the cedi experiencing sharp depreciation before recovering to GH₵10.35 per US dollar by June 2025, Guinness Ghana closed the year on a strong note.

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to building on this momentum, maintaining market leadership, and ensuring long-term stability and profitability under its renewed strategic direction.

The former Arsenal star admitted his love for Ghana and explained they are better than a lot of African countries during a speech he delivered at the Best of Africa awards held in London.

The striker received an award for his growing impact on community.

“Ghana has a lot of amazing people and we have some talented artists, talented football players and talented people in general. I just think they are a bit better than a lot of African countries…,” he said after receiving his award.

Nketiah remains undecided despite making an appearance for England at senior level, and recently he was reported to have shown strong interest in playing for Ghana.

According to journalist, Saddick Adams of Angel FM, he spoke to the player’s family, who revealed he was ready to switch nationalities.

“Spoke to Eddie Nketiah’s family this weekend to get clarity on the stories about his switch. The source admitted that Eddie Nketiah had previously spoken to the Ghana coach and some GFA top officials but he had not settled at his club yet so couldn’t make a decision,” he wrote on X.

“However, Nketiah is now settled and at 26, matured enough and ready to “give his very best” if Ghana calls now. Says he has Ghana blood running through him so his “identity is unquestionable”. Basically, he’s open to playing for Ghana now.”

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian FA have stated their stand against players who previously rejected an approach to play for the Black Stars, ruling out Nketiah’s desire to represent his African roots.

“Players who have not shown enough commitment to the Ghanaian flag will not be part of us,” said GFA president Kurt Okraku on 3 Sports.

Nketiah featured for Crystal Palace as they eliminated Liverpool from the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening.

Shatta Wale warmly responds to Perez Musik

Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has responded affectionately on Facebook to gospel artiste Perez Musik’s recent comments suggesting Wale could draw thousands to Christ if he switched to gospel music.

Perez Musik had made the comments in an interview on Hitz FM, where he reacted to the dancehall artiste’s recent ShattaFest concert, which saw thousands troop to an already filled Independence Square.

In his reply, Shatta Wale, stated, “Oh, my blood brother Perez, it is the same gospel I am preaching ooo. Same as what you’re doing, but mine is not for one religion but for God’s people,” he said.

He went on to explain that his music was targeted at ‘God’s people’, whom he described as “Every Living and Non-Living thing and so we are God’s people/Children/Angels🫶ETC..”

What happened at ShattaFest

Thousands of music fans filled Accra’s Independence Square on October 18, 2025, to celebrate Shatta Wale’s 41st birthday at ShattaFest.

The event, heavily promoted on social media and sponsored by MTN, saw fans arriving from various parts of the country, with vehicles and groups converging on the packed venue.

By early evening, the Square was almost full and by 10 PM, both the Square and nearby roads were overwhelmed with attendees.

The concert featured performances from several artistes, including Samini, Tinny, Kelvynboy, Jupita and Wendy Shay, with Shatta Wale delivering the headline act.

The concert ended successfully, marking one of the largest turnouts for a musical event in Ghana, with related coverage and claims suggesting upwards of 673,000 people attended ShattaFest 2025.

We Will Not Boycott Baffoe Bonnie’s Vetting – Afenyo-Markin

0

Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin has firmly stated that the Minority in Parliament will not boycott the upcoming vetting of minister-designate Baffoe Bonnie. He made this declaration in response to speculations circulating within the political sphere that the Minority was considering a walkout to protest the nomination process.

The video was posted by Joy News on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, capturing Afenyo-Markin’s strong remarks at the Parliamentary Press Briefing Room. He reaffirmed the Minority’s unwavering commitment to democratic accountability and due process, insisting that their role is to represent the people through scrutiny, not obstruction.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the Minority remains guided by principle and respect for the constitution, not partisanship or impulsive reactions. “We will not boycott. We will show up, we will ask the tough questions, and we will make sure the vetting process reflects transparency, fairness, and integrity,” he asserted. The leader noted that while the Minority may disagree with certain appointments, walking out of such a critical process would not serve the public interest.

He further explained that the vetting process is one of Parliament’s strongest instruments for ensuring accountability in governance, and abandoning it would weaken the institution’s credibility. “Our responsibility as elected representatives is to protect the Republic, not to engage in emotional politics,” he said, adding that the Minority would use the opportunity to interrogate the nominee’s record, competence, and vision for the ministry.

Afenyo-Markin also emphasized that constructive engagement is far more powerful than political protest, especially at a time when citizens are demanding responsibility from both sides of the political divide. He reminded Ghanaians that Parliament must always act as the guardian of democracy, regardless of which party holds the majority.

“We in the Minority understand our duty. We are not here to obstruct, but to guide. We are not here to shout, but to speak truth to power. The vetting process gives us that platform — and we intend to use it fully,” he said.

In a subtle rebuke to critics who accused the Minority of inconsistency, Afenyo-Markin noted that boycotts and parliamentary absences often yield no meaningful results. Instead, he urged his colleagues to focus on strengthening institutional checks and balances through engagement, dialogue, and legal oversight.

Political analysts have commended the Minority’s approach, saying it marks a maturing phase in Ghana’s parliamentary democracy. Many believe the decision not to boycott signals a shift from adversarial politics toward issue-based participation. Others, however, caution that the vetting must not become a mere formality but a genuine test of competence and integrity.

Sources within Parliament say that the vetting of Baffoe Bonnie has generated mixed reactions across party lines, with some MPs expressing optimism about his nomination while others raise concerns over his past record and policy direction. Afenyo-Markin, however, stressed that the Minority will approach the process with objectivity and evidence-based questions.

He concluded his address with a call for unity and professionalism in national politics. “This is not about NDC or NPP. It is about Ghana. Every nominee must be ready to answer for their stewardship. That is how democracy grows — through accountability, not hostility,” he stated.

As the vetting date approaches, the Minority Leader’s words have calmed rising tensions in the political space. His assurance that his caucus will fully participate has been widely welcomed by civil society groups, who see it as a commitment to preserving parliamentary integrity.

Observers say the public will now be watching closely — not just to see whether the Minority attends, but how rigorously they question the nominee. The vetting of Baffoe Bonnie is expected to be one of the most closely followed sessions in recent times, as it will test both the nominee’s competence and the Minority’s resolve to uphold the public interest through democratic accountability.

Nigerian Cult Groups Reportedly Clash In Adenta Over Alleged ‘Control’ Of Ghanaian Territory

News Hub Creator22h

Tensions reportedly flared in Adenta, a suburb of Accra, after two rival Nigerian cult groups allegedly clashed over territorial control in Ghana. Eyewitnesses describe the scene as chaotic, with members from both factions confronting each other face-to-face in broad daylight, sparking fear and concern among residents.

According to reports circulating online, the confrontation stemmed from ongoing rivalry between the groups, each seeking dominance over the other in what they described as the “rule” of Ghanaian territory. The violent altercation is said to have involved dangerous weapons, though the extent of injuries or arrests remains unclear.

Residents of Adenta have since called on the Ghana Police Service to intensify security patrols in the area, expressing worry about the growing influence of foreign cult activities within local communities. Some locals claimed that these clashes have been brewing for months but escalated recently after disagreements over illegal operations and territorial control.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, but sources indicate that investigations have begun to identify and apprehend those involved.

The situation has sparked national concern, with many Ghanaians urging strict immigration monitoring and community vigilance to prevent similar violent occurrences in the future.

Canal+’s Entry in Ghana: 7 Critical Questions Consumers & Policymakers Must Ask Despite the “Good News”

0

There is a possibility of a breath of fresh air in Ghana’s internet service provision space after Canal+ announced plans to roll out fibre broadband in the country, but an economist says Ghanaians and policymakers must move beyond the excitement.

The competition economist and the West African Regional Director of CUTS International, Appiah Kusi Adomako, says the announcement is welcoming and excitement is justified; however, it should not end there.

The move, hailed by many, including the sector minister, Samuel Nartey George, is considered a potential game-changer, could mean faster speeds and more choices.

But according to the competition economist, this good news should come with a dose of caution and critical questions.

He argues that while competition sounds great, the real question is whether it will translate into better value for consumers and fair play in the market. He believes that Competition is not a one-time event. It’s a continuous process.

Canal+’s Entry in Ghana: 7 Critical Questions Consumers & Policymakers Must Ask Despite the “Good News”

Here are seven critical questions he says both consumers and regulators must ask before celebrating.

 Will My Internet Bill Drop?

The arrival of a new internet provider usually brings hope for cheaper services, but that’s not guaranteed. Ghana’s internet prices have historically stayed high despite multiple players. The key question is whether Canal+’s entry will push prices down or whether existing providers will quietly adjust their strategies to keep rates stable.

Will My Service Be More Reliable?

Many Ghanaians know the frustration of buffering videos and dropped Zoom calls. So, it’s not just about the cost, speed and reliability are critical. Consumers should watch whether Canal+ offers consistent connectivity that reaches beyond urban centres into underserved communities.

Canal+’s Entry in Ghana: 7 Critical Questions Consumers & Policymakers Must Ask Despite the “Good News”

Will I Be Free to Switch Providers Without Penalties?

In Ghana, switching from one provider to another can sometimes mean losing money or facing penalties. Adomako challenges policymakers to ensure that consumers can freely move to better services without being tied down by hidden exit fees or restrictive contracts.

Will the Rollout Reach My Community Soon – or in Three Years?

Promises of nationwide access often sound good at launch but take years to materialize. The question, Adomako insists, is how soon Canal+ will extend its fibre network to rural and peri-urban communities that have been left behind in the digital race.

Does Canal+ Have the Capacity and Incentive to Expand?

For competition to work, new entrants must have both the resources and the motivation to challenge existing giants. Policymakers, Adomako said, should probe Canal+’s long-term plans and investment commitments to ensure it’s not just a marketing move but a real market expansion.

Can the Big Players Still Stifle Competition?

Ghana’s telecom and broadband market has seen cases where dominant players control access to infrastructure, pricing, or content, making it hard for smaller firms to thrive. Regulators must ensure incumbents don’t use their power to frustrate new entrants through subtle anti-competitive tactics.

Canal+’s Entry in Ghana: 7 Critical Questions Consumers & Policymakers Must Ask Despite the “Good News”

Do We Have Strong Enough Competition Laws?

Lawyer Adomako believes the country must strengthen its competition regime to deal with unfair market behavior like predatory pricing, abuse of dominance, and refusal to collaborate with competitors.

“This is where we need competition laws that truly protect the consumer,” he said.

The Bottomline

For the consumer protection advocate, while the Canal+ announcement brings excitement, he believes Ghanaians and policymakers should not just celebrate but must scrutinize.

Ghana’s broadband future will depend not on promises, but on how well regulators and consumers demand fairness, transparency, and real benefits.

He maintains that competition is not an event, it’s a process that must work every day for the ordinary Ghanaian.

Lawyer Martin Kpebu Petitions High Court, Submits Explosive Evidence Against Wontumi

0

Prominent Ghanaian lawyer, Martin Kpebu, has lodged a powerful petition with the High Court, presenting what he calls “credible and conclusive” evidence implicating the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), in illegal mining and abuse of public office.

Sources close to the legal proceedings revealed that Kpebu personally filed the petition on Wednesday, submitting a compilation of documents, audio clips, and signed witness statements purportedly linking Wontumi to questionable mining activities now under state investigation.

Addressing journalists after the filing, Kpebu insisted that his motivation was purely based on justice and transparency. “This has nothing to do with politics. It’s a moral duty. When public figures violate the law for personal enrichment, silence is complicity,” he asserted.

Officials at the High Court have confirmed receiving the petition and assigned it to a special review panel. Preliminary hearings are expected to commence soon, with analysts predicting that the case could reshape Ghana’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining (galamsey).

Chairman Wontumi has recently faced public criticism following reports of a police raid on one of his alleged mining sites, where firearms, gold bars, and cash were said to have been discovered. Although his legal team has yet to issue an official statement, insiders have described Kpebu’s petition as a politically driven smear campaign aimed at damaging Wontumi’s reputation.

Meanwhile, social media reactions remain intense while some Ghanaians applaud Kpebu’s courage and pursuit of justice, others warn against rushing to judgment, calling for impartiality and due process. As the court prepares to deliberate, the unfolding case underscores the growing tension between politics, influence, and the persistent menace of illegal mining in Ghana.

Bola Ray clarifies Qnet’s role in alleged fraudulent cases

Chief Executive Officer of EIB Network, Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi Chief Executive Officer of EIB Network, Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi

Chief Executive Officer of EIB Network, Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi, popularly known as Bola Ray, has dismissed claims linking Qnet, a global direct marketing company, to widespread fraudulent activities reported across the country.

Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ghana Yensom Morning show hosted by Chief Jery Forson, Bola Ray clarified that the alleged scams circulating on social media and in local communities were not perpetrated by Qnet itself, but by individuals and unauthorised groups using the company’s name for personal gain.

He emphasised that Qnet’s operations are legitimate and regulated but warned that unscrupulous persons often exploit its brand identity to deceive unsuspecting job seekers and investors, especially in rural and peri-urban areas.

“Qnet as a company has its systems and values, but there are people who take advantage of the name to defraud others.

Those actions do not represent the company,” Bola Ray stated.

He urged the public to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of recruitment or investment offers purportedly linked to Qnet before engaging with them.

Bola Ray also called on the media and relevant authorities to distinguish between genuine corporate operations and fraudulent impersonations, stressing that false narratives could harm legitimate businesses and employees.

The comments come amid renewed public concern over alleged Qnet-related scams, with several arrests reported by police in parts of Ghana and other West African countries.

Attend sittings or lose your seat

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the poor attendance of Members of Parliament (MPs) during sittings, cautioning that disciplinary measures will soon be applied against those who continuously flout the rules of the house.

Addressing the house, he emphasised the need for members to strictly adhere to the scheduled sitting hours and parliamentary procedures.

He explained that the afternoon sittings were designed to enable MPs to participate effectively in committee work, engage with public servants, and attend to issues affecting their constituents.

Bagbin further encouraged members to take advantage of evening sittings, noting that such sessions offered citizens the opportunity to observe proceedings and contribute meaningfully to parliamentary democracy.

He, however, warned that persistent absenteeism and disregard for the Standing Orders of Parliament would no longer be tolerated.

According to him, any member who continued to defy the rules risked facing disciplinary action that could eventually lead to the forfeiture of their seat.

Funding local sustainability projects will improve bottom lines for corporate Ghana – Centre for CSR West Africa

Companies in Ghana have been urged to fund or partner organisations implementing sustainability projects or social causes.

Co-founder and Chief Executive of the Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) West Africa, John Kojo Williams, made the call as a panellist at the Ghana AIDS Commission’s 14th National HIV/AIDS Partnership Forum in Accra.

The Ghana AIDS Commission, GAC, under the Office of the President, organised this year’s Forum under the theme: “Harnessing Domestic Resources to end AIDS by 2030”. Important local and international partners and stakeholders of the Commission attended the event. It was held at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on October 22, 2025.

“CSR and sustainability projects often help unlock opportunities that will contribute positively to the bottom lines of companies when they actively and strategically immerse themselves in these interventions. A lot of businesses have become admired and loved brands, and their fortunes and patronage have improved significantly due to their commitment to supporting social causes,” Mr Williams revealed.

As the highest policy-making body on HIV/AIDS, Ghana AIDS Commission provides effective and efficient leadership in the coordination of programs and activities to provide support, guidance and leadership for the national response to HIV and AIDS in Ghana.

“A creatively designed impact-focused sustainability project will improve the lives of people. Organisations associated with such a project will have a fair share of positive public goodwill. This will automatically improve how these organisations are perceived or treated by the public.

Companies should not have profit-making intentions when supporting social causes; the benefits will automatically come to them in the form of patronage or growth of consumer base in many cases,” he admonished.

Key players in the private sector should open up to collaborations, partnerships and innovative solutions to sustain and scale up Ghana’s HIV/AIDS responses,” he advised.

Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says the government has a responsibility to ensure a smooth and efficient visa process for Ghanaians travelling to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The tournament, to be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, is expected to attract thousands of fans and the Abura Asebu-Kwamankese MP says government remains committed to helping as many supporters as possible attend.

Kwakye Ofosu’s assurance follows Ghana’s qualification for the global showpiece and recent high-level meetings involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ghana Football Association, and officials from the US Embassy and Canadian High Commission.

“As a government, we have a duty to at all times look out for the interests of the people of Ghana,” he told Joy Sports. “The Foreign Ministry has acted proactively by engaging the necessary authorities in the host countries to ensure the visa process for Ghanaians is smooth.”

He also revealed that Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s discussions with the embassies had been productive and generated positive feedback.

Ablakwa later confirmed via social media that a similar meeting would be held with Mexican officials to finalise Ghana’s comprehensive visa facilitation plan ahead of the World Cup.

Your decency and humility will make you victorious – Bawumia told

File photo: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been urged to remain true to himself and steadfast in his quest to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to victory, and ultimately to serve the nation as president.

During his tour of the Western North Region as part of his nationwide campaign ahead of the NPP presidential primaries, Dr Bawumia’s character has become a central talking point, with several party executives commending his humility, decency, and leadership qualities — virtues they believe will carry him far.

“You are adored and loved because of your humility and good character,” the NPP Constituency Chairman for Bia East said on Wednesday, amid chants of approval from delegates and constituents.

The Chairman, like many others, said Dr Bawumia had remained decent and composed throughout the campaign despite persistent attacks from his opponents.

“In spite of all the attacks against you, you don’t even respond — and that is part of the reason why, here in Bia East, we are resolved to vote for you again. Others elsewhere also admire you for the same reason,” he added.

“We commend you for your decency and humility. Let them continue to say whatever they want about you; their wishes will never come to pass. Continue to be who you are, and victory will be yours.”

Air traffic safety engineers suspend planned strike

0

The Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GhATSEA) has suspended its planned nationwide strike, which was scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

In a statement signed by its President, Engr. David Annan Mensah, the association said it decided to call off the industrial action after fruitful discussions with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) governing board and management aimed at resolving long-standing grievances over poor welfare conditions and management inaction.

“Following constructive engagement with the GCAA governing board and management, we have decided to suspend our planned strike action, which was scheduled to take effect from 30th October 2025,” the statement read.

GhATSEA expressed appreciation to all stakeholders involved in the negotiations and said it remains optimistic that the ongoing engagements will lead to a lasting resolution of all outstanding issues.

“We appreciate the efforts made by all stakeholders during the discussions and remain optimistic that the ongoing engagements will lead to a lasting resolution of all outstanding issues,” the statement added.

The association had earlier threatened to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike, citing poor welfare conditions, inequitable job placements, unfair salary administration, and unresolved welfare matters dating back more than 15 years.

GhATSEA assured the public and all aviation stakeholders of its commitment to maintaining safety and professionalism in the delivery of air navigation services across the country.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and professionalism in the provision of air navigation services across the country,” it stated.

The association also commended the Acting Director-General of the GCAA, Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, and Acting Deputy Director-General (Technical), Mr. Theophilus Aryee Ago, for their dedication and leadership during the negotiations.

GhATSEA further thanked the media and the public for their patience and understanding throughout the period of industrial tension and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the continued safe and efficient operation of Ghana’s airspace.

It is you we know — Western North Region unites in support of Bawumia

0

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia appears poised to sweep the Western North Region in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries in January, following a series of strong endorsements from delegates across constituencies in the region.

On the fourth leg of his nationwide campaign tour — having already visited the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions — Dr Bawumia has witnessed rising support in the Western North Region, where his tour began on Tuesday.

On the opening day in Sefwi Akontombra, Aowin, and Suaman, the former Vice President received an enthusiastic welcome from delegates and constituency executives, who chanted his name and openly endorsed his candidature to lead the NPP in 2028.

The support grew even stronger on the second day, with endorsement messages from Bia East, Bia West, Juaboso, and Bodi, reflecting sentiments similar to those expressed earlier.

Delegates and party officers consistently cited Dr Bawumia’s decency, humility, experience, and long-standing commitment to the progress of the NPP as reasons for their unwavering support.

His enduring relationship with grassroots members across the region was also widely acknowledged.

“Here in Bia East, you are adored because of your humility. In spite of all the attacks against you, you don’t even respond — and this is one of the reasons we are resolved to vote for you again,” said the Constituency Chairman for Bia East, John Ameyaw, in a welcome address.

“We commend you for your decency and humility. Let them say whatever they want to say about you; continue to be who you are, and victory will be yours,” he added.

In Bia West, the message was equally emphatic. “As for us, the only person we know is Dr Bawumia,” declared the Constituency Chairman.

“We’ve known you for many years. You have been with us all this time, both here and in the region, so we will continue to stand by you until you lead us to victory.”

Dr Bawumia’s popularity and growing support in the Western North Region — one of the most deprived regions in the country — are also attributed to several development projects that delegates say he helped bring to the area during his tenure as Vice President.

A key example is the major road connecting the region to Kumasi, which Dr Bawumia cut the sod for a few years ago. The improved road network has transformed transportation in the area, earning him praise from residents.

In addition, the Zipline medical drone service, which delivers essential medical supplies to remote communities, has been particularly impactful in the Western North Region.

His close relationship with delegates — strengthened through multiple visits to the region, some constituencies receiving him at least six times — has also deepened loyalty among party members.

In the 2023 NPP primaries, Dr Bawumia won in seven out of the eight constituencies in the Western North Region and from all indications, his support remains strong and widespread.

Waste contractors to strike on November 7 over unpaid arrears

0

The Environmental Services Providers Association (ESPA) has threatened to withdraw its services nationwide on November 7, 2025, if arrears owed to waste management contractors are not settled.

According to the Association, the government has failed to pay outstanding arrears for several months despite repeated appeals.

Executive Secretary of ESPA, Ama Ofori Antwi, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, warned that a suspension of services could have dire consequences for the country’s sanitation situation.

“As a matter of urgency, make payment to avoid a shutdown from November 7, 2025. We therefore appeal to the government for the immediate release of our outstanding payments owed to all waste management contractors by November 7. Without these interventions, service providers may be forced to suspend operations nationwide,” she stated.

ESPA is urging the government to act swiftly to avert a potential sanitation crisis that could result from the withdrawal of waste collection and management services across the country.

Liberia replaces mines minister amid talks on US investments

0

Liberia has replaced its mining minister and top mining regulator, the office of President Joseph Boakai announced, as the West African nation and iron ore producer pursues talks with Washington on investments in its critical minerals sector.

The new minister, R. Matenokay Tingban, served as deputy mining minister under former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

The decision to appoint him in place of the previous minister, Wilmot J.M. Paye, is part of moves to improve governance and efficiency, Boakai’s office said in a statement on Monday, without elaborating.

A second statement on Tuesday named a new head for the state mining regulator.

The changes come as Liberia seeks to attract foreign investment into its mining industry, which recently identified deposits of lithium, cobalt, manganese and rare earths, minerals vital for electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti in Washington on October 17 to discuss expanding U.S. participation in mining, the State Department said.

Tingban will oversee a ministry central to Liberia’s plans to boost investor confidence under Boakai’s “ARREST Agenda”, a five-year national development strategy.

Boakai also appointed new deputies at the mines and education ministries. Some of the appointments require Senate confirmation.

Iron ore remains Liberia’s top mineral export, with ArcelorMittal its largest mine and rail network, though gold has recently become a critical foreign exchange earner.

Other players in the minerals sector include Ivanhoe, Bea Mountain (Avesoro), MNG Gold and Hummingbird Resources.

‘I am not prepared for my brother’s funeral on December 6’ – Lumba’s sister speaks

Madam Ernestina Fosu, elder sister of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, has expressed her unpreparedness for the upcoming funeral scheduled for December 6, 2025.

Her comments follow the Kumasi High Court’s dismissal of an injunction application that sought to halt the event.

Ernestina Fosu, who is known to be among those supporting Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Madam Akosua Serwaa, stated that she is unhappy with the court’s decision to throw out the injunction.

Speaking to journalists outside the Kumasi High Court on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, after the ruling, Madam Fosu said that although the court has cleared the way for the funeral to proceed, she is personally not emotionally or mentally prepared for the announced date.

When asked about her readiness for her brother’s final funeral rites, she responded firmly:

“I’m not ready. That 6th of December that has been set for the funeral of my brother I’m not ready.”

She further added that all she and others want is peace and nothing more.

Her remarks came shortly after Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur of the Kumasi High Court dismissed the interlocutory injunction application filed by Madam Akosua Serwaa.

The court ruled that under Ghanaian customary law, authority over a deceased person’s remains and funeral arrangements rests with the family, not with any individual including a surviving spouse.

Justice Smith Arthur further noted that halting the family’s preparations would not serve the interests of justice, the family or the general public.
