With this addition, ALPi now operates in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Namibia, Mauritius and Côte d’Ivoire, making it one of Africa’s most geographically diverse and AfCFTA-focused law networks.

Welcoming the firm into the ALPi network, Mr. Olasupo Shasore (SAN), Senior Partner of ALP Nigeria, said: “Getting one of the most highly regarded lawyers in Francophone Africa, Serge Effi, and his firm, Effi & Associès to join the ALPi Practice Group is fantastic news for us and for our clients, including those across the ten African Union member states where we now operate.

“Serge’s cross-border experience and the bilingual strength of Effi & Associés deepen our capacity to serve clients in both civil and common law systems. This step advances our commitment to building a truly Pan-African legal services platform designed for the AfCFTA era, and for truly opening up African business.”

Adding his voice, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, Senior Partner of Africa Legal Associates (ALP Ghana) stated: “Africa is becoming increasingly a single market, where we see our clients, from multinationals to SMEs, expanding across borders. That’s why we are deliberate about ensuring that ALPi has a presence across the continent for our clients and potential partners both within Africa and globally.

“Having Effi & Associés as part of the family perfectly aligns with our vision to build a one-stop, high-quality advisory firm for clients seeking to do or expand their business in Africa.”

In his response, Dr. Serge Effi, Managing Partner of Effi & Associés, expressed enthusiasm about joining the network:

“We are very happy to be part of this Pan-African-focused law family. This partnership is greatly welcomed by our clients, and it enhances our ability to offer seamless legal services across both civil law and common law jurisdictions.

“This is exactly where Africa is going, which is toward deeper integration and cooperation among its professionals and markets. We are excited to represent ALPi in Côte d’Ivoire.”

Uyi Giwa-Osagie, Partner at ALP Nigeria, also welcomed the new member, noting that Effi & Associés’ entry would further strengthen business and trade relations between Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, two of West Africa’s fastest-growing economies.

Musician Cardi B surprised her social media followers with a candid confession about her personal hair care routine. In a recent Instagram Live session, the rapper stated she has not washed her hair for several months.

The artist later shared the video on the platform X, where she amended her initial statement. “Matter of fact I am lying, probably like three months, I do not know,” she said. She joked that her scalp might host “all types of roach eggs, mosquito eggs, everything.”

During the broadcast, the 33 year old also outlined her plans to address the situation. She explained she would first oil her scalp, then wash her hair, and finally have it braided later in the week. The graphic admission drew a range of reactions from users on social media, with some expressing horror at the disclosure.

CRS empowers youth in Bolgatanga to prevent violent extremism

0

By Anthony Adongo Apubeo

Bolgatanga, Oct. 30, GNA – Forty young men and women from various youth groups in the Bolgatanga Municipality and its environs have undergone a two-day capacity-building training to equip them with conflict resolution and peacebuilding skills to help prevent violent extremism in their communities.

The training formed part of phase two of the Prevention of Violent Extremism through Social Accountability (PoVETSA II) project being implemented by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in partnership with the National Peace Council (NPC) and the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), with funding support from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The PoVETSA II project, which began in October 2022, operates in five regions namely Upper West, Upper East, North East, Northern, and Greater Accra and seeks to improve civilian-security relations and strengthen community resilience against violent extremism.

Ms Adelaide Yiriyelleh, Project Manager for CRS Ghana, speaking at the opening ceremony in Bolgatanga said the workshop was designed to empower the youth to become peace ambassadors within their communities.

“We are bringing together 40 carefully selected youth to build their capacities in conflict resolution, mediation, dialogue, and early warning response systems,” she said.

“At the end of this training, we expect them to serve as agents of peacebuilding within their homes, communities, and organisations.”

Ms Yiriyelleh noted that CRS and its partners had developed a robust monitoring and evaluation system to track the progress of participants after the training and urged the participants to replicate the training in their various communities to achieve maximum impact.

“We will conduct quarterly monitoring and field visits to document success stories, identify challenges, and support participants to strengthen their interventions,” she explained.

She said the session followed an earlier one held in March 2025 in Tamale, which trained 40 women in preventing violent extremism and promoting community dialogue.

“You cannot talk about peace without inclusion, that’s why we ensure diversity by involving women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other marginalised groups. Every voice matters in building peace.”

Mr Ali Anankpieng, a Peacebuilding Expert and Trainer, said youth engagement was critical in preventing violent extremism, adding that young people were both “agents of peace and potential perpetrators of violence.

“If young people are trained to understand peace and conflict, they can channel their energy positively. Projects like this are vital because they empower youth to take leadership roles in peacebuilding.”

He emphasised that youth programmes should be demand-driven, based on the actual needs of young people saying, “when the youth themselves define what they need and you provide it, they take ownership. That’s when peacebuilding becomes meaningful.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joseph Darison Wusi, Deputy Upper East Regional Police Commander, commended the initiative, adding that the goal of the project aligned perfectly with their efforts of the Ghana Police Service to improve trust and collaboration between civilians and security agencies.”

He said the Police Service was open to partnerships with community groups through mechanisms such as Neighbourhood Watch Committees, which help gather information and support law enforcement in preventing crime and insecurity.

Ms Darlington Anadem, one of the participants said the training was timely as the country continued to be threatened by activities of terrorists in the Sahel, adding that the training had empowered him to help prevent infiltration of violent extremists into the country.

Mr Nelson Apasnaba, another participant expressed gratitude to CRS and its partners and called for more of such training to empower more of the youth to lead peace efforts in their communities.

PAC grills Registrar of Companies over registration of Atta-Mills Institute

0

Samuel Atta-Mills, Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and brother of the late President John Evans Atta-Mills, has criticised the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) over the registration of the Atta-Mills Institute, which has since been renamed The Mills Institute.

The matter came up during a PAC sitting in Accra on Friday, October 31, where members questioned the process that led to the registration of the organisation, founded by the late former President’s former aide, Koku Anyidoho.

Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Gakpey, raised concerns about how the Institute was allowed to use the name of the late President without approval.

“This is a known former president. If I am not related to him, can I just come to your office and register a company in his name?” he asked.

Responding to the committee, Acting Registrar of Companies, Maame Samma Peprah, explained that her office follows laid-down procedures in registering business names.

“Respectfully, Honourable Chair, the law has certain rules regarding the registration of business names. We have to ensure that there is no conflict with other names on our register and that it is in the public interest that such names exist,” she said.

“There are a number of steps that we go through to conduct the search and ensure it is in line with Act 992 before we do the registration. Under the law, misleading names are not allowed in our register, so we would look at it and have it rectified,” she added.

When asked why the Atta-Mills Institute was registered then, the Acting Registrar said, “Respectfully, Honourable Chair, I am not aware of it. I will look at our system and revert on that.”

Mr Atta-Mills then expressed his disappointment, saying the registration process did not follow due procedure.

“Unfortunately, I have all the documents from your office. Nothing was followed. No rule, rhyme, or reason was followed,” he stated.

Adding “I just don’t want to go into it because it may be a conflict of interest.”

Ghanaian Women tend nation’s restoration movement through coffee and forest

0

By Albert Oppong-Ansah

Accra, Oct. 30, GNA – Betty Adza’s earnings from her coffee farm have increased more than a thousand-fold over the past five years.

Once making barely GHS 500 (about US$47.66) per season, the single mother and her group members now earn upwards of GHS 17,000 (about US$1,620), thanks to farm expansion, access to ready markets, and alternative income opportunities.

“Coffee farming was bequeathed to me by my mother years back. And I’m proud to have taken it to another level with support from One Tree Planted through Kawa Moka.” Betty says with pride.

Betty is just one of many women transforming their livelihoods, and landscapes, through climate-smart agriculture and ecosystem restoration, a nature-based solution to climate change and environmental degradation, also a national priority.

For Sylvia, another member, learning the craft of coffee-making at Kawa Moka opened new doors. She now runs a small business, baking coffee-flavoured cakes and training young girls who, like her, grew up orphaned or in poverty.

In the lush highlands of Leklebi, Sylvia and her cooperative of women farmers bend over rich, dark soil, pressing coffee seedlings into the earth beneath a canopy of young shade trees.

They sing as they work, songs of renewal and purpose. They reuse coffee husks for mulching, practice organic techniques, and participate in every step of the value chain, from nursery to harvest.

Restoring Land, Rebuilding Lives

The initiative is part of a broader project by One Tree Planted in Ghana, focused on restoring degraded lands, protecting biodiversity, and empowering women.

Since 2021, One Tree Planted and its partners have planted more than four million trees across the Volta, Western, and Eastern Regions of Ghana.

Women make up over 60 per cent of the workforce, contributing to nursery management, planting, monitoring, and environmental education.

Their roles extend far beyond labour; they are changemakers and guardians of Ghana’s forests.

“When women are empowered, nine out of ten returns, go back into the home. They invest in their children’s education, family nutrition, and healthcare,” says Emi-Beth Quantson, Founder of Kawa Moka Coffee.

“Empowerment also creates more income opportunities for young women, reducing early and multiple pregnancies and protection against domestic violence.

Our partnership with One Tree Planted helps us grow not just trees, but futures.”

At Leklebi, one of their favourite songs, sung in Ewe, “Coffee is good, coffee will send our children to school,” echoes into a future of hope and comfort.

From the Highlands to the Coast

What began in the Volta highlands is now spreading westward. Across Ghana, a women-led environmental movement is gaining strength, from forest farms to coastal wetlands.

In the Western Region, women in rubber wellington boots wade through brackish wetlands, planting mangrove saplings to stabilise shorelines and support fisheries, says Eunice Adofo Boanya, One Tree Planted’s Africa Project Manager.

“These wetlands are nurseries for fish and natural buffers against erosion,” she explains. “The women’s work here is protecting both livelihoods and marine life.”

Moving inland to the Eastern Region, others are restoring farmlands with native timber and fruit trees, reversing years of deforestation and land degradation.

“These women, farmers, mothers, traders, are the unsung heroes of a bold movement to reforest degraded lands and protect livelihoods.” Boanya adds.

Women, as primary caregivers and economic drivers, are often hardest hit by biodiversity loss and environmental degradation.

Yet, they are also the most responsive, forming savings groups, managing nurseries, and diversifying income sources to build resilience.

Beyond Trees: Social and Economic Impact

The restoration work goes beyond tree planting. It tackles deep-rooted social challenges, offering alternative livelihoods in communities where deforestation was once driven by charcoal burning and illegal mining.

“Restoration reduces pressure on women, improves food security, and deters youth from migrating or engaging in harmful activities.” Boanya says.

Madam Lydia Opoku, Acting Executive Director of the Ghana’s Forest Services Division, praised One Tree Planted’s efforts as a major contribution to Ghana’s Tree for Life Initiative, which aims to plant 30 million trees nationwide.

“We cannot do this alone,” she notes. “Partners like One Tree Planted are helping us to raise awareness about the value of forests and the role each Ghanaian must play in protecting them.”

Mr Samuel Appiah Ofori, One Tree Planted’s Africa Project Manager, emphasises that lasting change requires deep community integration.

“It is not just about trees, it is about trust, livelihoods, and sustainability,” he says.

Ofori cites the work of Ghoshen Global with cocoa farmers in the Western Region, where shade trees have improved yields and restored biodiversity.

“When farmers see the benefits, better crops, new income, they are more committed. That is how restoration becomes truly sustainable.”

Ghana and Africa Leading by Example

Across Africa, One Tree Planted has supported more than 215 projects, planted over 36 million trees, and created more than 100,000 green jobs.

These efforts show that the continent, often on the frontlines of climate change, is also a global leader in community-driven conservation.

“Locally-led restoration works, and collaboration is the backbone of every successful effort,” says Mr John Ngahu, Interim Africa Regional Director of One Tree Planted, who visited Ghana from Kenya.

“When I see what’s happening in Ghana, and compare it to our work in the Mau Forest Complex back home, the message is clear: communities can regenerate landscapes.”

At a forest planted in 2020, trees now stand 20 metres high. Once a barren patch of land, it now teems with life, birds chirp, butterflies flutter, and insects thrive.

“It offers hope that all is not lost, and that concerted efforts toward restoration can work miracles,” says Mr Matthew Jeffery, Chief Programme Officer at One Tree Planted, after visiting project sites in Ghana.

“These forests are genetic banks. We do not yet know all the medicinal value or biodiversity they hold.” Jeffery notes.

“Restoration projects, whether in cocoa farms or wetlands, help protect this heritage while addressing climate change.”

Jeffery says One Tree Planted is committed to working with governments, nonprofits, and local leaders to ensure the trees survive, not just sprout.

“They do not just plant,” he adds. “They nurture, they teach, they protect. And the results are real, improved microclimates, increased biodiversity, restored fisheries, and new income.”

Sowing Resilience and Hope

Perhaps the most powerful outcome of all is that these women are transforming their relationship with the land, from exploitation to regeneration.

Their hands plant seeds, but their actions sow resilience, equity, and their minds sow hope for generations to come.

SML insists payments were verified, dismisses OSP claims of political ties

Revenue assurance firm Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) has stated that it is a wholly Ghanaian-owned private company with no ties to former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta or any members of the previous Akufo-Addo administration.

In a press statement sighted by GhanaWeb Business, SML dismissed suggestions of political influence in its operations, describing such assertions as unfounded and inconsistent with official corporate records.

“SML is a wholly Ghanaian-owned private company duly incorporated under the laws of the Republic of Ghana. Its directors, shareholders, and beneficial owners are publicly registered with the Registrar of Companies. No current or former public official owns, controls, or patronises SML,” the statement read.

The company defended its performance under contracts awarded by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), stating that all payments received were tied to verified deliverables and subject to rigorous oversight.

“SML has efficiently executed its Transaction Audit, External Price Verification, and Downstream Petroleum Audit contracts under continuous GRA supervision. Payments were made only after technical validation, data reconciliation, and documentary confirmation,” it said.

‘There was no genuine need for contracting SML’ – Kissi Agyebeng

SML further noted that its scope was expanded by the GRA and the Ministry of Finance to include upstream petroleum and minerals revenue audits based on its proven capacity and technical expertise.

The statement comes in response to comments made by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, who at a press conference on Thursday, October 30, 2025, reaffirmed his office’s intention to recover GH¢125 million from SML, describing the amount as unjust enrichment through automatic payments not backed by performance.

SML, however, challenged the basis of the recovery claim, insisting that the state owes the company.

“SML questions the basis of the purported GH¢125 million ‘to be recovered’ by the state, as the evidence on record clearly indicates otherwise. Official statements on verified performance data and financial reconciliations are available directly from the GRA,” the company stated.

Addressing concerns about duplication of roles, SML clarified that its work in the downstream petroleum sector complements, rather than replaces, existing state functions.

“Our systems introduced continuous digital monitoring to address longstanding weaknesses in manual measurements and fragmented data. SML’s role is to enhance transparency and accountability, not to substitute government oversight,” it added.

President Mahama orders termination of SML contract

John Dramani Mahama is the President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama is the President of Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, to terminate all existing contracts between the Government of Ghana and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).

The directive follows the conclusion of investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which found no justifiable basis for the government’s engagement with SML.

A letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, instructed the Minister of Finance to take immediate steps to end all contractual arrangements involving the revenue assurance firm.

‘There was no genuine need for contracting SML’ – Kissi Agyebeng

At a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, October 30, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng disclosed that the investigation revealed no genuine need for the services SML was contracted to perform, raising concerns about value for money and procurement justification.

“The failure to obtain mandatory prior approvals for such a high-value contract represents a serious breach of the legal framework designed to protect state assets,” Agyebeng stated.

The contracts, which aimed to provide revenue assurance services in the petroleum, mining, and liquid bulk distribution (LBD) sectors, were found to lack legitimate operational requirements.

The investigation also revealed that key regulations under the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) and the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) were allegedly bypassed.

SML insists payments were verified, dismisses OSP claims of political ties

The OSP is set to press charges by the end of November 2025 against several individuals implicated in the SML-GRA contracts. Those expected to face prosecution include former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta; current and former Commissioner-Generals of the GRA, Rev Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah and Emmanuel Kofi Nti; GRA officials Isaac Crentsil and Kwadwo Damoa; and former Ministry of Finance Technical Advisor Ernest Akore.

According to Agyebeng, evidence gathered points to criminal conduct during the negotiation, approval, and implementation of the contracts.

The OSP is expected to formally announce specific charges and commence legal proceedings in the coming weeks.

‘Dadesen’ pots linked to cancer, kidney diseases

FDA has raised an alarm over widespread use of locally made pots FDA has raised an alarm over widespread use of locally made pots

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has warned the public over the widespread use of locally-made cooking pots, popularly known as “Dadesen,” after detecting dangerously high levels of lead in them.

According to a report by 3news.com, the Eastern Regional Manager of the FDA, Anita Owusu-Kuffour, made this known during a stakeholder engagement at Somanya.

She revealed that FDA surveillance uncovered a troubling practice among some local manufacturers who deliberately add lead during production.

“When they are making the pots, the metal becomes hard, so they add lead to soften it. The sad part is that most local manufacturers have no idea about the health implications.

“We are advising the public to stop using ‘Dadesen’ that contains lead,” he noted.

FDA urges vigilance, warns of arrests for unsafe food sales

Anita Owusu-Kuffour further cautioned against the use of worn-out nonstick cookware, explaining that once the protective coating erodes, it can release harmful heavy metals and toxic chemicals into food.

“If the coating wears off, you are exposing yourself to serious health risks, including cancer, because some of these coatings contain heavy metals.

Chronic Kidney Disease in Ghana: Treatment challenges and prevention tips

“As science and technology improve, it is important for all of us to move away from harmful practices and embrace safer alternatives,” she emphasised.

The FDA said lead, a highly toxic heavy metal, makes the metal easier to mould but exposes users to severe health conditions such as cancer, kidney failure, and Parkinson’s disease.

Remembering the bizarre 149-0 match that shocked world football

0

AS Adema defeated SO de l’Emyrne 149-0 AS Adema defeated SO de l’Emyrne 149-0

On this day 23 years ago, world football witnessed one of the most extraordinary scorelines ever recorded, AS Adema defeated SO de l’Emyrne 149-0.

It wasn’t a display of dominance or attacking brilliance, but a full-scale protest that turned a domestic Malagasy league game into global football folklore.

The incredible match took place on October 31, 2002, during the final round of Madagascar’s national championship playoff in the city of Toamasina.

SO de l’Emyrne (SOE), the reigning champions at the time, had already lost their title hopes due to what they believed were biased refereeing decisions in a previous game against DSA Antananarivo.

Benjamin Azamati proposes to Italian girlfriend on a yacht

Frustrated and feeling cheated, the players decided to make their anger known, in the most dramatic way possible.

From the opening whistle, SOE players began deliberately scoring own goals, one after another, for the full 90 minutes.

Their opponents, AS Adema, stood stunned as the ball repeatedly found its way into the SOE net. Fans in the stands watched in disbelief as the scoreboard ticked higher and higher, 10, 20, 50, 100, before finally settling at an unimaginable 149-0.

The bizarre act wasn’t about humiliation, but a protest against the system. SOE wanted to send a message to the football authorities, but their actions instead drew global ridicule and heavy sanctions.

The Malagasy Football Federation swiftly intervened, banning SOE’s coach, Zaka Be, for three years, and suspending several players until the end of the season.

The match has since lived on as one of football’s strangest and most unforgettable moments, a bizarre blend of rebellion, frustration, and farce.

On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the Kumasi High Court dismissed Daddy Lumba’s first wife Akosua Serwaa’s injunction application after she filed a suit against family head, Victor Kofi Owusu Banahene, co-wife, Odo Broni, and Transition Funeral Homes.

Her Ladyship Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur ruled in favour of the late musician’s Abusuapanin, who has been given the green light to proceed with the funeral arrangements as originally planned.

The Kumasi High Court also ordered both parties to file all necessary legal processes by Friday, October 31, for a Case Management Conference scheduled for November 14, regarding Akosua Serwaa’s bid to be declared the only surviving wife of the late musician.

Ernestina Fosu confronts Abusuapanin in court

Following their latest appearance in court on October 31, tensions arose between Ernestina Fosu and the family head at the premises.

In a video seen by YEN.com.gh, Daddy Lumba’s elder sister angrily confronted Kofi Owusu as he exited from the courtroom. The family head’s lawyer was seen gesturing to her client to remain silent as the singer’s sister verbally attacked him.

Security personnel, including the bodyguards of the family head, intervened to prevent Ernestina from getting direct contact with him, as she made several allegations concerning his conduct after her brother’s demise.

The family head was later accompanied to his vehicle by his security detail as Daddy Lumba’s elder sister continued to lash out at him.

The video of Ernestina Fosu confronting Abusuapanin at the court premises is below:

She stated that she still did not know the cause of her brother’s demise and was not ready to allow members of her family to hurriedly hold his burial service.

Ernestina Fosu claimed that Daddy Lumba’s funeral would only be held if she received the information about the cause of her brother’s death.

The late singer’s sister stated that she did not trust the autopsy report of his brother’s death since some individuals could have forged it.

She noted that she represented her siblings as the eldest child of her family to reject the plans of their Abusuapanin and other members of the funeral committee to hold the funeral.

Daddy Lumba’s elder sister alleged that some individuals had used her brother’s demise to secure secret deals with brands and claim significant amounts of money for themselves.

The video of Ernestina Fosu speaking about Daddy Lumba’s funeral is below:

Kofi Owusu noted that he had been bestowed with the authority to organise the late singer’s burial service by the judge.

Daddy Lumba’s Abusuapanin also cautioned the media over the insults he had received from many netizens.

Eric Agyemang, a man purported to be the Deputy Campaign Secretary for Kennedy Agyapong, has defected to join Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s team as the flagbearer race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) draws closer.

In a video circulating on social media, Mr Agyemang openly declared his support for Dr Bawumia’s candidacy.

He also expressed regret for his previous actions and statements made against Dr Bawumia, the immediate past Vice President of Ghana, during the party’s internal campaign period.

The young politician said that he had taken time to reflect and verify some claims and came to the realisation that most of the things said about the former Vice President were lies.

“I came to all of you to campaign for Kennedy Agyapong in the past, but I have come to realise that the things we said about Dr Bawumia were lies and falsehood. I regret it deeply and I am withdrawing everything I told you about him. Let us all come together and support Dr Bawumia,” he said.

NPP Presidential Primaries: Asante Akim MP likens Bawumia to a low-class labourer who doesn’t deserve to lead the party

0

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akim, Asante Boateng, has questioned the status of former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and slammed him for being an outsider in the party.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Badwam programme, the MP launched a shocking personal attack on the Vice President, and likened him to a serving slave who must not be allowed to lead the party.

“When there is a vacant seat in the family to be filled, you don’t give it to an outsider who was brought into the family to serve.

“You don’t elevate an outsider or a slave who was brought in to serve to the highest seat,” the Asante Akim MP said.

“We brought Bawumia and made him Vice President, and that should be enough. You don’t elevate such an outsider to the main seat.

“He has been honoured with the Vice President and that should be enough. He was an outsider who just served us,” he added.

The MP, who has been campaigning for the former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, in the NPP Presidential Primaries, likened Dr Bawumia to a slave who has been brought by a royal family to serve.

“I want to liken him to a slave of the olden days, where the slave is brought into a royal family to serve. You can honour such a slave or a servant with some chieftaincy seat, but you can’t elevate him to the main seat as we are doing for Bawumia.

“He should just leave and allow peace to prevail. Because of Bawumia, Alan has left the party and first formed the butterfly movement and now the UP party. We cannot allow him to lead us.”

Legal Aid Commission to complete registration of all lands by June 2026

0

The Legal Aid Commission says it will complete the registration of all its outstanding non-current assets, particularly lands across the country, by the end of June 2026.

Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Accra on Friday, October 31, Edmund Amarkwei Foley, the Executive Director of the Commission, noted that these lands had been surveyed.

He noted that while some properties, such as the 0.72-acre land in Takoradi and the property in Kumasi, have been registered and documented, other sites, including Tamale and Koforidua, are still in the process of registration.

“Since last year, we have surveyed the lands, and our next step is to ensure the necessary payments are made so that registration can be completed,” Foley said.

He added that the Tamale property, located on the premises of the Judicial Service, has not yet been finalised, while documentation for Kumasi is complete.

Foley emphasised that the Commission aims to avoid litigation and is actively engaging with the Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission to expedite the process.

“We are committed to ensuring that by the end of the second quarter of next year, June 30, 2026, all these lands will be registered and have proper titles,” he stated.

I bought six printers for EOCO with my own funds – Attorney General

0

Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has confirmed that he personally funded the purchase of six printers for the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

His clarification follows concerns raised by members of the Public Accounts Committee, who questioned whether EOCO may have received grants or donations from unapproved sources.

Dr. Ayine explained that EOCO does not receive financial support or grants from private individuals, stressing that his gesture was a personal donation and does not amount to a conflict of interest.

“If you look at the listed entities, for instance, Bank of Ghana, it’s government; it’s part of the apparatus of state. EOCO does not receive such donations from private persons because of issues of conflict of interest.

“So, for instance, when I assumed office in February, one of the things that they came to brief me on was the fact that they did not have printers.

He added, “We looked everywhere. We couldn’t find the money to buy the printers. So I bought printers out of my own funds for them. So there were six heavy-duty printers that I bought for them out of my own funds. There is no conflict in this because I wanted the entity to work efficiently, and that is why I had to make that donation.”

Government tables L.I. to revoke mining in forest reserves

0

The Government has laid before Parliament the Environmental Protection (Mining in Forest Reserves) Revocation Instrument, 2025.

The legislative instrument, which is expected to mature into law in the next 21 sitting days, seeks to revoke L.I 2501, which limited the President’s power to authorise mining in forest reserves and completely revoke L.I 2462.

The move forms part of the government’s renewed efforts towards the fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.

The Ministry for Environment, Science and Technology said the repeal forms part of a broader national strategy to combat illegal mining, including initiatives such as the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) and the work of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

L.I. 2462, which allows mining activities in forest reserves, has faced fierce criticism from environmental activists and the public for its role in exacerbating the damaging effects of illegal mining, also known as galamsey.

Many environmental and civil-society groups argue that L.I. 2462 opens up forest reserves to industrial mining in a way that undermines forest protection.

Critics say the legal basis is weak and that the Regulations grant too much power to the Minister/President to authorise mining in protected zones, thereby bypassing stronger safeguards.

Ghana to host Beauty Cosmetics & Wellness West Africa Expo in April 2026

0

The 10th edition of the Beauty Cosmetics & Wellness West Africa – Ghana Expo 2026 has been launched and is set to take place from April 16 to 18, 2026, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The announcement was made during the 2025 Ghana Beauty Awards held in Accra, which celebrated excellence and innovation in the beauty, cosmetics, and wellness industries.

The event was attended by the Minister of Youth and Development, George Apparels Adda, and the Minister for Tourism, Abla Dzifa Gomsashie, along with key industry stakeholders and professionals.

The upcoming Expo will be organized by Ace Group and Astrovision, in collaboration with Makeup Ghana as the local organizing partner.

The three-day event will host 145 invited buyers from 10 countries, including importers, distributors, and retail chains.

Over 400 business-to-business meetings are planned between exhibitors and buyers, many of which are expected to result in trade deals and long-term partnerships.

Ace Group and Astrovision explained that the decision to host the Expo in Ghana follows the country’s fast-growing beauty and personal care market.

“Market data shows that Ghana’s beauty industry was valued at US$29.3 million in 2023 and is expected to reach US$46.2 million by 2027, growing at over 12 percent annually”

“The personal care market is projected to rise from US$70 million in 2023 to US$109 million by 2027, while the cosmetics market is estimated to generate US$226 million in 2024” the organisers said.

Both Ace Group and Astrovision noted that the increasing demand for natural and organic products was shaping the future of Ghana’s beauty sector, as more consumers seek sustainable and health-conscious options.

The Expo is expected to become one of the most influential gatherings for professionals in the beauty, cosmetics, haircare, and wellness industries, serving as a platform for innovation, business growth, and international collaboration.

Ace Group, Astrovision, and Makeup Ghana invited the media, partners, and beauty industry stakeholders to take part in the event, which is expected to strengthen Ghana’s position as a leading beauty and wellness hub in West Africa.

The recurring military brutality in Ghana: A lingering colonial mindset?

0

The Ghana Armed Forces is one of the most respected institutions in the country built on discipline, honor, and sacrifice.

Many of our officers are outstanding professionals, diligently serving the nation with pride and integrity. That must be acknowledged. But alongside the dedicated men and women in uniform exists a darker, troubling trend: the recurring pattern of abuse and brutality by some officers, acts that continue to stain the reputation of the institution and torment the very citizens they swore to protect.

The Viral Assault – Burma Camp

A recent viral video showed a soldier brutally assaulting a female customer and a pharmacist inside a pharmacy; slapping, kicking, and manhandling them over what appeared to be a misunderstanding about service. The video sparked public outrage and renewed the national conversation about military abuse of civilians; the footage was horrifying: a man trained to defend life turning that training against unarmed civilians. What began as a misunderstanding turned into a full display of power without control, discipline without purpose.

This isn’t an isolated act. Ghanaians still remember Ashaiman (2023), when soldiers stormed the town at dawn, beating residents after the death of a colleague. In Wa (2021), men in uniform were filmed flogging civilians over a missing phone. From Takoradi to Kumasi, stories of soldiers assaulting civilians have become too frequent, too familiar and too tolerated.

No matter the reason, assault is a crime under Ghana’s Criminal Code, 1960 (Act 29), classified as a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment. Uniform or not, no citizen is above the law It’s that simple. Being in uniform doesn’t make it legal, justified, or noble. It makes it worse because the uniform represents the law itself.

The Law Enforcer Who Breaks the Law

The uniform is meant to symbolize service and responsibility, not superiority or intimidation. An officer of the law does not break the law, he upholds it. When men in uniform turn their strength against unarmed civilians, they undermine the very moral code that gives their service meaning. An officer of the law breaking the law is the ultimate contradiction. The badge or uniform does not elevate a person above others; it burdens them with responsibility.

Why do we still see these acts? Is it a lingering colonial mindset, where power was enforced through fear and physical domination? Do some still believe that to be respected, they must first be feared? Being in uniform should not turn one into a demigod. The civilians being brutalized are also nation-builders: lawyers, teachers, nurses, traders, scientists and students: people whose work sustains the very peace the military exists to protect, people whose taxes sustain the very institutions that arm and feed the military

When you Train the Body, Train the Mind Too

We must ask ourselves honestly: what kind of training are our officers receiving? Are they being taught human rights, civil engagement, and the ethics of restraint or only obedience and dominance?

Military training should build discipline, not desensitize humanity, it should not strip away humanity. It should produce disciplined professionals capable of restraint under provocation. When a few officers behave like bullies rather than protectors, the institution must introspect A few officers display behaviors that belong to battlefields, not communities. How do we produce men trained to protect society, but some end up behaving as though they were trained for an animal farm?

The problem may not just be the curriculum, but also the culture of impunity that allows such acts to go unpunished. Until consequences are real, lessons remain empty.

Recording the Truth Should Not Be a Crime

Another recurring issue in Ghana is the attack on civilians for recording brutality. Citizens have been beaten or arrested merely for capturing soldiers on video. But globally, the right to record public officers performing their duties is protected. In the United States, UK, and South Africa, the law recognizes the public’s right to record as long as it does not obstruct operations. In Ghana, no law forbids a civilian from recording an officer committing a crime. So, why should anyone be beaten for documenting abuse? If the uniformed man’s actions are just, what is there to hide? A professional officer should not fear a camera; only the lawless do. A professional should not dread evidence only the guilty do. Trying to destroy recordings or punish citizens for filming is simply a way to erase accountability. A professional should not dread evidence only the guilty do. Trying to destroy recordings or punish citizens for filming is simply a way to erase accountability.

Justice for the Connected & Powerful, Silence for the Poor

The officer caught assaulting the pharmacist has been arrested and that is commendable. But one cannot help but wonder: Would this have happened if the victims were ordinary Ghanaians without influence or connections? We must admit: such swift action only happens when the victims have influence or visibility. If that woman had been a market vendor, a mason, or a poor student, would we still be talking about this?

For too long, poor civilians have suffered abuse with no justice. Many don’t know where to turn, and institutions often ignore them. Leadership routinely overlooks these “small issues,” forgetting that unchecked brutality corrodes public trust in security agencies. The true measure of justice is not how the powerful are treated, but whether the powerless are protected.

We are Better than these Archaic Practices

Ghana has reached a level of democratic maturity where citizens can no longer be treated as subordinates to state power. The days of “fear the soldier” must give way to “respect the soldier for his service.

It’s time for the Ghana Armed Forces to match its discipline with transparency and self-policing. Public trust is built not by words, but by actions. Soldiers who brutalize civilians must face visible justice, not quiet transfers, training must emphasize human rights and ethical conduct, not blind aggression. The institution must protect its image by purging its ranks of those who stain the uniform.

We must move past the days when the uniform inspired fear. In modern Ghana, the soldier should inspire respect, safety, and confidence. Being a soldier is not a license to brutalize; it is a duty to serve with discipline, not dominance.

NHIA Prioritising Expanded Dialysis Coverage – Dr. Bampoe

0

Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe

Chief Executive Officer of National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, has announced that his outfit is working assiduously with stakeholders to provide a comprehensive coverage for kidney dialysis.

He said the comprehensive coverage aims to alleviate the financial burden on patients and their families, who previously struggled with the high cost of life-saving dialysis procedures.

Speaking at the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) conference themed, “Consolidating strategic partnership for a resilient and the inclusive health insurance scheme,” Dr. Bampoe added that kidney disease remains a significant health concern in Ghana, with many patients struggling to access life-saving treatment.

He said, “Its public knowledge that a tender was floated by the Ministry of Health, and we’ve discussed coverage of dialysis. The country is actually being divided into sectors to ensure that no one is left behind. It’s a very important and comprehensive policy of the Mahama administration.”

He explained that the country is moving towards comprehensive dialysis coverage, with plans to cover the entire nation.

Dr. Bampoe reiterated that a recent meeting with the Minister of Health and nephrologists was held to discuss additional requirements for improved coverage. “Currently, patients pay around GH¢499 or GH¢500 per session, but this will change soon with more comprehensive coverage being implemented,” he disclosed.

Director of Strategic Health Purchasing, Dr. Mrs. Ruby Aileen Mensah, explained that the review of dialysis tariffs considers the overall cost of care, including initial shunting sessions for ward patients.

She indicated that the new tariff structure will cover a specified number of sessions, providing comprehensive care from stabilisation to discharge and beyond.

“The amount for the two dialysis sessions has also been requested. This coverage will include routine labs, as well as medications, such as erythropoietin, which is currently under discussion due to its high cost. Once implemented, these changes will make the coverage for kidney disease more comprehensive,” she added.

Mahama terminates SML contract

0

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate termination of all contracts between the Government of Ghana and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) following the conclusion of an investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

This directive was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, and addressed to the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. The letter instructed the Finance Minister to take immediate steps to end all existing agreements involving SML.

The OSP recently concluded its investigation into the revenue assurance contracts between SML and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), which examined issues related to alleged procurement irregularities, contractual overreach, and value for money concerns.

According to findings shared by the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, at a presser in Accra on Thursday, October 30, the investigation revealed that there was no genuine need for engaging SML for the services it purported to perform.

The contracts, he said, were secured through “self-serving official patronage, sponsorship, and promotion based on false and unverified claims.”

Meanwhile, the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that its operations were lawful, transparent, and beneficial to the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 31, 2025, SML said it had “fully cooperated with all lawful investigations” and called for public discussions to be grounded in verified facts rather than speculation.

“We will present all relevant documents before the appropriate authorities. We remain proud of the work done, the controls that governed it, and the measurable value created for Ghana,” said the company’s Lead Counsel.

SML maintained that it is a wholly Ghanaian-owned company with no political affiliations and that its contracts with the GRA were structured under a “risk-and-reward” framework to enhance national revenue mobilisation through measurable results.

According to the company, its services — including transaction audits, external price verification, and downstream petroleum measurement — were performed under GRA supervision, with payments made only after results were independently verified.

‘I will make sure the law is clear on who a true wife is’

William Kusi (L) is confident on winning the legal tussle for his client Akosua Serwaa William Kusi (L) is confident on winning the legal tussle for his client Akosua Serwaa

William Kusi, the lawyer representing the late Daddy Lumba’s wife, Akosua Serwaa, has stated that he will ensure the law is reinforced if any court rules that a woman with a marriage certificate is not recognised as a legitimate wife.

In an interview on Top FM, William Kusi expressed confidence in winning the legal battle over who the true wife of the late Highlife legend is, between Akosua Serwaa, who holds a marriage certificate, or Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, who is also claiming to be Lumba’s wife.

According to him, even if the court’s final ruling does not favour his client, he will not be disturbed by the outcome because such a ruling would ultimately serve as a legal precedent for future cases involving marriage legitimacy.

Odo Broni has filed a counterclaim in court – Lawyer claims

He explained that the case, which is currently before the High Court in Kumasi, could be appealed to higher courts if necessary.

The lawyer stressed that he would challenge any ruling that recognises a woman who allegedly cohabited with a man as a legitimate wife over another who holds a valid marriage certificate.

“As for the case, I’m not even going to lose it. Even if I lose it, it won’t bother me at all because it is a case that will eventually become the law. If any court says that someone who has a marriage certificate is not a wife, and instead the person who allegedly lived with the man is the wife, I will go up and make sure I strengthen the law,” he said.

The legal tussle follows a ruling by a Kumasi High Court, which dismissed an injunction application filed by Akosua Serwaa seeking to halt the funeral rites of her late husband, Daddy Lumba.

The court held that under Asante tradition, the authority over the late musician’s remains rests with his extended family, and not his first wife.

With the injunction dismissed, the court’s attention has now moved to the substantive issue, determining who the surviving spouse of the late singer is.

The court has directed all parties to file the necessary legal documents by October 31, 2025. A Case Management Conference has been scheduled for November 14, 2025, paving the way for the main hearing to begin on November 17, 2025.

The hearing is expected to conclude by November 21, 2025, with the final judgment on the case set for November 25, 2025.

President Mahama directs termination of all existing SML contracts

0

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

Nvidia strikes bumper AI deals with Asia tech giants

0

US chip giant Nvidia will supply more than 260,000 of its most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) chips to South Korea’s government, as well as Samsung, LG, and Hyundai.

The companies will all deploy the AI chips in factories to make everything from semiconductors and robots to autonomous vehicles and meant that South Korea can “now produce intelligence as a new export,” chief executive Jensen Huang said.

Mr Huang did not disclose the value of the South Korean deals.

It caps off a busy week for Nvidia, which on Wednesday became the first company to be valued at $5 trillion and on Thursday saw signs of a thaw in US-China trade relations that may mean it can export more of its chips to China .

Speaking at a CEO summit on the sidelines of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) in Gyeongju, South Korea, Mr Huang added that with the chips, companies would be able to create “digital twins” with other factories around the world.

These deals form part of Nvidia’s latest effort to expand AI infrastructure globally, to further integrate AI into products and services.

Nvidia has been striking international partnerships which helped it become the first company ever to be valued at $5tn (£3.8tn) on Wednesday.

Caught in the middle

The South Korea deals come as Nvidia grapples with the fallout of the China-US trade war.

China made up more than a tenth of Nvidia’s revenue last year, but the extent of China’s access to Nvidia’s chips has been a point of friction with Washington.

“We used to have 95% share of the AI business in China. Now we’re at 0% share. And I’m disappointed by that,” Huang said in Gyeongju on Friday.

Trump said after his meeting with Xi on Thursday that Beijing will hold talks with Nvidia to discuss sales of its chips in China.

Trump said the talks remained between China and the US company, but that the US government will play the role of a “referee” of sorts.

On Friday, Huang said he would like to sell Nvidia’s state-of-the-art Blackwell chips to China, although the decision needed to be made by the US President.

The US imposes export controls on sales to China of Nvidia’s most-advanced AI chips.

The tech boss had no news on China sales, or the talks between the two leaders but that he hopes they’ll find a way to have new policies that allow chips back into China.

“It’s in the best interest of America to have the China market and it’s in China’s interest to have an American company bring technology to the country,” Huang said.

“We’d like to see American technology be the global standard.”

AI power

South Korea – which is already home to major semiconductor companies and vehicle manufacturers – wants to become a regional AI hub.

The country is the ideal place to expand AI infrastructure, according to the Nvidia CEO, because of its access to energy and land, and its ability to construct factories.

President Lee Jae Myung said he would prioritise AI investment after coming into office in the face of US tariffs.

With the Nvidia deal, the South Korean government plans to build computing infrastructure that it will control, a term known as “sovereign AI”.

More than 50,000 Nvidia chips will power data centres at the National AI Computing Center and facilities owned by South Korean companies like Kakao and Naver.

The chip giant is dependent on the tightly-knit supply chains that run through the Asia Pacific region.

Nvidia is primarily a chip designer, and so outsources most of its physical production to manufacturers like Samsung, SK Hynix and TSMC.

TSMC has been a critical partner for Nvidia, making the company’s most advanced AI chips, including its flagship Blackwell series.

Samsung makes parts for Nvidia’s H20 chips, a scaled-down processor made for the Chinese market under US export rules.

National security experts and some politicians have long voiced concerns about the US selling AI chips to China, saying that Beijing could use them to gain an advantage in AI, as well as in military applications.

Analysts say that US efforts to block China’s access to advanced computer chips have fostered innovation within China.

Both Huawei and Alibaba have unveiled their own chips that they say can rival Nvidia’s products for the Chinese market.

Beijing has also reportedly prohibited local firms from buying from Nvidia, urging them to buy from Chinese chipmakers to give its domestic tech industry a boost.

“We respect deeply the capabilities of China,” Nvidia’s Jensen Huang said on Friday.

Nvidia’s share price was this week further boosted by a wave of new deals, including partnerships with the US Department of Energy, Nokia, Uber, and Stellantis – moves aimed at reassuring investors that AI investments will deliver returns.

Hopes of a revival in China sales, following trade talks between Presidents Trump and Xi, also lifted its share price.

Yvonne Nelson’s daughter celebrated her eighth birthday on October 29, 2025. The handlers of her personal Instagram page shared a photo of the little girl bonding with her grandmother on Thursday, October 30.

In the photo, Ryn, whom the actress welcomed on October 29, 2017, with her British baby daddy and former photographer Jamie Roberts, beamed with a smile as Madam Margaret held her in her arms at the premises of a plush residence.

Yvonne Nelson’s daughter looked cute in her short-sleeved shirt and appeared to enjoy her private moment with her grandmother, who watched her with happiness and pride.

The photo of Ryn with Madam Margaret marked a rare public appearance by the latter, with whom Yvonne has had a strained relationship over the years regarding questions about the identity of her biological father.

In her 2023 memoir titled ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,’ which touched on her life story, including her career and personal struggles, the actress detailed that she had not had an encounter with her mother since her birthday in 2022.

She recounted a heated confrontation she had with her mother before cutting off personal communication with her and detailed how their strained relationship had emotionally impacted her life.

Botwe boys crush Prempeh and Adisco to secure NSMQ semi-final spot

After a postponed contest that left fans eagerly waiting, Mfantsipim School proved its intellectual dominance by defeating rivals Prempeh College and Adisadel College in the rescheduled quarter-final stage of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), booking a spot in the semi-finals.

They amassed 64 points, 24 points ahead of the two other contestants, Adisadel College and Prempeh College, who both finished with 40 points.

The much-anticipated contest, originally scheduled for Thursday, October 30, had to be postponed after an uncontrollable crowd breached security and overwhelmed the venue, the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Auditorium at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

When the competition finally took place, the atmosphere was charged with excitement as the three science giants battled fiercely for supremacy across five thrilling rounds.

The Mfantsipim contestants, showing composure and focus, took an early lead in the first round, the Fundamentals Round, earning 25 points, while Prempeh followed with 20 points and Adisadel secured 15 points.

In the second round, the Speed Race, Mfantsipim maintained their momentum, stretching their score to 41 points. Prempeh trailed with 22 points, while Adisadel remained at 15 points, struggling to catch up.

The Problem of the Day, the third round worth ten points, tested the contestants’ ability to solve complex scientific problems under pressure.

Mfantsipim secured four out of ten, moving to 45 points, while Prempeh managed two, increasing their tally to 24 points. Adisadel, however, gained momentum, earning six out of ten to reach 21 points.

By the fourth round, which focused on True or False questions, Mfantsipim widened their lead with 61 points, followed by Prempeh with 40, and Adisadel with 31 points.

In the final round, the Riddle Round, Mfantsipim solved one out of the four riddles, finishing at 64 points. Prempeh failed to solve any, maintaining 40 points, while Adisadel made a strong finish by solving three riddles to also reach 40 points.

The victory secured Mfantsipim’s place in the semi-final stage as they continue their quest to defend the title they won in 2024, aiming for back-to-back triumphs in the prestigious national competition.

The Quiz Mistress, Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, commended all three schools for their impressive performances, particularly in the opening rounds where contestants displayed remarkable accuracy and confidence in answering questions.

Fans and alumni of Mfantsipim School celebrated joyously, chanting their school anthem as the “Botwe boys” reaffirmed their reputation as one of the most formidable teams in NSMQ history.

Ghanaians blast DKB over comment on Charles Taylor’s stadium snub

DKB is a Ghanaian comedian DKB is a Ghanaian comedian

Comedian DKB has found himself at the center of backlash on social media following a remark he made about Ghanaian football legend Charles Taylor, after the ex-footballer revealed he was disrespected at the 2025 President’s Cup.

Taylor, who starred for both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, in an interview, recounted how he was denied parking access at the Accra Sports Stadium, only to watch Felix Afena-Gyan, arriving moments later in a luxury Range Rover, being escorted inside.

The former Black Stars forward described the experience as humiliating, questioning why he, despite his contribution to Ghanaian football, was treated with such disregard.

While many sympathized with Taylor, DKB’s reaction rubbed fans the wrong way. In a post on X, the comedian appeared to suggest that Taylor’s decision to stay in Ghana rather than pursue a career abroad was partly to blame for his current situation.

Charles Taylor cries over snub at President’s Cup

“You proved yourself in Ghana, go abrokyi go make money, you refused, you even changed phone line so many times so the deals couldn’t go thru.”

His comment, however, sparked outrage among fans who accused him of being insensitive and disrespectful to a player they consider a legend of the local game.

Many argued that Taylor’s influence in Ghanaian football, playing for the two biggest clubs and representing the national team, should earn him lasting respect, regardless of whether he played abroad or not.

Others defended Taylor’s choice to stay in Ghana. Some also pointed fingers at Ghanaian football administrators, accusing them of failing to properly honor former stars who helped to build the local game.

By Iddi Yire, GNA

Accra, Oct 31, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama arrived in Cairo on Friday at the invitation of the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, for the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), slated for Saturday, November 1.

Overlooking the Giza Pyramids, the GEM is the world’s largest archaeological museum, celebrating over 5,000 years of Egyptian civilization.

The $1 billion project, two decades in the making, houses thousands of artifacts, including 4,500 treasures from King Tutankhamun’s tomb.

President al-Sisi has hailed the museum as a “symbol of Egypt’s leadership in global culture.”

Originally set to open in July, the event was postponed due to regional tensions but is now expected to be one of the most significant cultural gatherings of the year.

The project was made possible through Egypt and Japan cooperation, with Japan providing ¥84.2 billion ($800 million) in soft loans via JICA and JBIC, alongside Egyptian and international contributions. Japanese experts also trained hundreds of Egyptians in conservation and museum management.

The opening comes amid a tourism revival in Egypt, with revenues reaching $14.4 billion in 2023–2024 and 15 million visitors recorded in the first nine months of 2025.

For Ghana, President Mahama’s participation underscores Africa’s growing voice in global cultural diplomacy.

Members of President Mahama’s Delegation include Dr Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President, Mr Stanislav Dogbe, a Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency in-charge of Operations; Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Foreign Affairs Minister; Madam Ablah Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, and Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye (Rtd).

‘Come back and defend yourself if you’re innocent’ – Security analyst to Ofori-Atta

Emmanuel Kotin (L) has sent a message to Ken Ofori-Atta (R) Emmanuel Kotin (L) has sent a message to Ken Ofori-Atta (R)

The Executive Director of the African Centre for Security and Counterterrorism, Emmanuel Kotin, has questioned why former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has refused to return to face prosecution and address allegations surrounding his tenure if he is not guilty.

According to a 3news.com report on October 31, 2025, he said the former finance minister owes Ghanaians an explanation regarding several unresolved matters linked to his management of the economy and financial agreements during his time in office.

“If I were the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, I would have come back to defend myself if I had not done anything wrong. It’s as simple as ABC. If you have not done anything wrong, why are you running away? Ghanaians want to know, and you owe them that,” he said.

You must pay dearly for sitting down and allowing Ofori-Atta to ‘flee’ – Kpebu slams OSP

The security analyst again explained that the continued delay by the former finance minister can tarnish his family’s reputation and image.

“He (Ken Ofori-Atta) is creating a certain path that would damage his image and his children. And if you look at what is ahead in the future, it might not look good for the family. We had a former finance minister who had been declared a fugitive from justice and was not willing to turn himself in,” he stated.

Emmanuel Kotin also accused the Office of the Special Prosecutor of underperforming as the country’s second occupant of the office.

“I think the OSP has not performed well at all. If you look at the office and the number of resources allocated to the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the level of prosecution so far, I think that we need to have a rethink about the Act altogether,” he added.

Kotin’s comments come in response to the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, who disclosed at a press conference on Thursday, October 30, 2025, that his office is collaborating with the Attorney General’s Department to extradite the former Minister of Finance as part of ongoing investigations into the controversial Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) contracts.

‘Ken Ofori-Atta is not afraid of prosecution’ – Frank Davies hits back at OSP

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has indicated that it will prosecute six former senior public officials, including the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, for their alleged roles in what it describes as the unlawful and wasteful engagement of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) in revenue assurance contracts with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The prosecutions are expected to start before the end of November 2025, following what the OSP described as ‘overwhelming evidence’ of procurement irregularities, poor value-for-money outcomes, and undeserved payments to the company.

Ghana Premier Leaague continues this weekend; Hohoe United welcomes Medeama at home

0

Newly-promoted Hohoe United will be eager to return to winning ways when they welcome table-toppers Medeama SC to the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Saturday, November 1, 2025, in a highly anticipated Premier League match.

The Hohoe-based side endured a tough end to October, suffering consecutive 2–0 defeats to Aduana FC at home and FC Samartex 1996 away. Despite those setbacks, Hohoe United remain 10th on the league table with 8 points, having scored 7 goals and conceded 8.

As debutants in the top flight, they have shown promise, particularly at home, where they’ve been a tough opponent to beat. In four home matches so far, they’ve recorded two wins, one draw and one defeat, failing to score in just one of those outings. Ranked as the ninth-best home side this season, Hohoe United will look to capitalize on their home advantage as they seek a morale-boosting victory to halt their two-game losing streak.

Standing in their way, however, are league leaders Medeama SC, who travel in top form under the guidance of Coach Ibrahim Tanko. The 2022/23 champions have made a blistering start to the season, winning five of their seven league matches (W5, D1, L1) to amass 16 points, the highest tally in the league.

Medeama’s impressive run includes three wins and a draw in their last four games, extending their longest unbeaten streak since October 2024. All three victories in that period were narrow 1–0 triumphs, reflecting the team’s defensive solidity and efficiency in front of goal. Their latest success came last weekend, a 1–0 home win over newly promoted Swedru All Blacks.

The Mauve and Yellow have also been among the league’s most balanced sides this season, boasting both the best attack (12 goals) and one of the strongest defenses (4 goals conceded). However, their away form remains a concern, they’ve managed just one win from two away matches this season and have struggled on the road historically, with only one victory in their last 13 away league games (W1, D1, L11) since November 2024.

With contrasting home and away fortunes at play, Saturday’s clash sets up an intriguing battle. Hohoe United will be desperate to make a statement against the league leaders, while Medeama will aim to maintain their position at the summit and finally put their away troubles to rest.

‘Be careful the kind of women you take home!’ – Piesie Esther cautions men

Piesie Esther is a gospel musician Piesie Esther is a gospel musician

Ghanaian gospel musician Piesie Esther has cautioned men against the risky habit of taking home women they barely know, warning that such actions can have serious spiritual and legal consequences.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on October 30, 2025, the award-winning gospel singer expressed concern over how some men pick up strangers from clubs, streets, or events for one-night encounters without considering the potential dangers.

“Some men have a habit of engaging in dangerous situations. A man can meet a lady he doesn’t know from anywhere, at a club or on the street, and take her to his house that very night. That is very daring,” she said.

Piesie Esther noted that beyond the physical risks, there are also spiritual implications to such behavior.

“You wouldn’t know if that person is a witch, a ghost, a snake, or even a marine spirit. Not every woman has good energy. When such people come close to you, things can start going wrong, you may lose everything,” she cautioned.

I used to think social media was for ‘maame water’ – Piesie Esther

She further warned that such reckless actions could also have legal repercussions.

“What if you pick up a lady you know nothing about, and she dies in your bed? How would you explain yourself?” she questioned.

The award-winning gospel musician advised men to exercise discretion and self-control in their interactions, stressing that “not every woman is meant to be taken home.”

‘Low attendance is the fault of committee chairpersons’

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor is the Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor is the Majority Chief Whip

The Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has blamed certain Committee Chairpersons for the persistent low attendance of Members of Parliament (MPs) during plenary sessions.

According to an adomonline.com report dated October 31, 2025, Dafeamekpor said some Chairpersons deliberately schedule committee meetings at the same time as plenary sittings, making it difficult for the House to form a quorum and conduct business.

His comments follow the release of a parliamentary attendance report covering 43 sittings between January and March 2025, which disclosed that several MPs missed sittings for more than 20 days without official permission.

Full list of 34 MPs who recorded perfect attendances in first 2025 parliamentary session

Addressing the issue on the floor of Parliament, Dafeamekpor said repeated calls to review committee schedules have been ignored.

“The records will bear me out that I drew the attention of the leadership of the committees to this matter. Mr Speaker, we have discovered that some leaders of committees are arranging committee business in the afternoon when we have all agreed that committee business should be arranged in the morning, so that at 2 p.m., we will be ready to conduct business in the House,” he stated.

He also noted that the day’s Order Paper listed several committee meetings for the afternoon, contrary to the agreed arrangement.

“Today’s Order Paper shows that there are advertised meetings of committees for the afternoon when we had encouraged them to shift those sittings to the morning so that we have adequate numbers in the afternoon to conduct business,” he indicated.

SML insists payments were verified, dismisses OSP claims of political ties

0

A photo of Strategic Mobilisation Limited building A photo of Strategic Mobilisation Limited building

“SML questions the basis of the purported GH₵125 million ‘to be recovered’ by the state, as the evidence on record clearly indicates otherwise.

Legendary Ghanaian footballer, Charles Taylor has revealed that he was denied parking access inside the Accra Sports Stadium during the 2025 President’s Cup match.

According to Taylor, he arrived at the stadium early in his Daewoo Matiz, hoping to secure a parking space, but was told there was no space available.

However, former AS Roma forward Felix Afena-Gyan arrived moments later in a Range Rover and was escorted by security personnel to park inside the stadium.

Ghana star Antoine Semenyo tipped for Real Madrid after explosive Premier League start

The former Asante Kotoko player expressed sadness over the incident, saying he shed tears due to the disrespect he felt despite his achievements in Ghanaian football history.

“During the President’s Cup, when I got to the venue with my car, they told me there was no space to park inside. Do you know what happened? It pained me, and I sat in my car crying. Afena-Gyan came with a Range Rover, and they opened the gate for him to park inside where GBC had stationed their vehicle.

“So it means they looked at my car and made that decision. These days, people judge you by the brand of your car and give you respect accordingly. Afena-Gyan, can he even match my left leg? Yet they escorted him to park inside, and I didn’t know where to park…” he lamented in Twi while speaking on Angel TV.

Taylor is now a sports pundit on Angel TV following his retirement from football.

Over 77,000 Cross- Border Same-Day Trips Recorded In 2023 – GSS

0

Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu

Ghana recorded a total of 77,501 outbound same-day trips in 2023, which according to Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, highlighted the growing importance of short cross-border travel for business, trade, and social purposes.

This was disclosed during the presentation of key findings from a national mobility report detailing travel trends among Ghanaians who leave the country and return on the same day by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

Dr. Iddrisu explained that men accounted for about 52% of same-day outbound travellers, while women made up 48%, reflecting a relatively balanced participation in cross-border movement. The largest age group of travellers was between 25 and 44 years, indicating that most same-day trips are undertaken by economically active individuals.

“Men accounted for a slightly higher share, about 52% of the outbound travellers, compared to women who accounted for about 48%. Among young travellers aged between 25 and 44 years, who formed the largest group overall, we see that both men and women participated actively in cross border trips, showing a growing balance in mobility for work and family purposes,” he pointed out.

The findings also revealed that business and professional trips were the leading reasons for travel, representing about 34% of all same-day journeys. This was followed closely by funeral-related travel at 23%, emphasising that such trips are not only motivated by trade but also by strong family, cultural, and social connections.

In terms of transportation, nearly all travellers used road transport, underscoring the importance of Ghana’s land borders for regional movement.

The report further indicated that self-arranged tours dominated travel activity, with 94.4% of trips being personally organised rather than booked through agencies. Only 4.6% of trips were packaged through tour operators.

Regionally, the Ashanti Region recorded the highest number of same-day travellers across all four quarters, with between 3,000 and 5,000 trips each period. This trend, according to analysts, reflects the region’s strong commercial and social linkages with neighbouring countries, particularly within the middle belt and West African sub-region.

Among destination countries, Togo consistently attracted the highest number of Ghanaian travellers, accounting for 54% of trips in the second quarter and an even higher 71.2% in the third quarter of 2023.

On expenditure, the report estimated that same-day travellers spent a total of about GH¢60 million throughout 2023, with the majority approximately 95% spent during the trip itself.

Experts say these findings underscore the critical role of short cross-border travel in Ghana’s socio-economic fabric, linking trade, culture, and regional mobility in ways that support both livelihoods and cross-border cooperation.

We have made progress in modernizing Ghana’s payment infrastructure – First Deputy Governor

0

First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Zakari Mumuni, has highlighted the significant progress made in modernizing Ghana’s payment infrastructure to aid financial inclusion and facilitate transactions across the country.

Dr Mumuni noted that under the National Payment Systems Strategy (2019–2024), “We have witnessed the expansion of digital payment channels, deepened interoperability across platforms, and strengthened regulatory frameworks that foster trust and innovation.”

According to him, these collective efforts “have enhanced access, empowered consumers, and positioned Ghana as one of Africa’s leaders in payment systems development.”

The First Deputy Governor made these remarks at the 2025 National Payment Systems Workshop.

The Bank of Ghana is organizing this stakeholder workshop on the Draft National Payment Systems Strategy (2025–2029) to help shape the future of Ghana’s payments and fintech ecosystem.

According to Dr Mumuni, the workshop provides a platform for open dialogue on the draft strategy, “which has been designed as a living document that must draw on the collective wisdom, experiences, and aspirations of all stakeholders present.”

He added that, “The insights shared today will help refine its priorities, strengthen its relevance, and ensure it remains responsive to the fast-evolving payments environment over the next five years.”

Safeguarding Progress

The First Deputy Governor also revealed that the Bank of Ghana has observed a surge in cybersecurity threats and online fraud as the adoption of digital financial services accelerates.

“That is why we must not allow these risks, though formidable, to erode the considerable progress we have made,” Dr Mumuni emphasized.

He noted that payment platforms have revolutionized commerce and spurred innovation in financial services, serving as a critical network of the digital economy that enables seamless and real-time transactions.

Addressing concerns about the emergence of dominant digital platforms and their impact on competition, the First Deputy Governor explained that policymakers and regulators are implementing forward-looking strategies that preserve innovation while safeguarding stability.

“These include promoting data interoperability, often referred to as open banking, and developing public digital infrastructures that lower entry barriers for market participants,”
he said.

Dr Mumuni added that initiatives such as electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) frameworks and trusted digital identity systems have made it easier and more cost-effective for non-bank entities to participate in the payments ecosystem, thereby expanding financial inclusion in new and meaningful ways.

BoG raises alarm over rising cyber threats amid digital finance expansion

The Bank of Ghana has expressed concern over the growing incidence of cyberattacks and online fraud as the country’s financial sector becomes increasingly digital.

According to the central bank, the rapid rise in digital financial transactions has been accompanied by a surge in cybersecurity threats, posing new risks to both financial institutions and consumers.

Speaking at the National Payment Systems Workshop 2025 on October 29, 2025, the First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Zakari Mumuni, said that while these threats are significant, they must not undermine the progress Ghana has made in expanding and modernizing its financial system.

“We have observed a surge in cybersecurity threats and online fraud as the adoption of digital financial services accelerates, almost mirroring the pace of growth in digital transactions. We must not allow these risks, though formidable, to erode the considerable progress we have made,” he said.

Dr Mumuni emphasised that ensuring the safety and resilience of the digital financial ecosystem requires collective action from all stakeholders.

“Our collective resolve, spanning regulators, innovators, and industry stakeholders, is stronger than the challenges confronting us. Together, we possess the capability and resilience to safeguard trust and integrity within the digital financial ecosystem,” he added.

Trump caps refugee admissions at record low

The Trump administration will limit the number of refugees admitted to the US to 7,500 over the next year, and give priority to white South Africans.

The move, announced in a notice published on Thursday, marks a dramatic cut from the previous limit of 125,000 set by former President Joe Biden and will bring the cap to a record low.

No reason was given for the cut, but the notice said it was “justified by humanitarian concerns or is otherwise in the national interest”.

In January, Trump signed an executive order suspending the US Refugee Admissions Programme, or USRAP, which he said would allow US authorities to prioritise national security and public safety.

The previous lowest refugee admissions cap was set by the first Trump administration in 2020, when it allocated 15,000 spots for fiscal year 2021.

The notice posted to the website of the Federal Register said the 7,500 admissions would “primarily” be allocated to Afrikaner South Africans and “other victims of illegal or unjust discrimination in their respective homelands”.

In February, the US president announced the suspension of critical aid to South Africa and offered to allow members of the Afrikaner community – who are mostly white descendants of early Dutch and French settlers – to settle in the US as refugees.

South Africa’s ambassador to Washington, Ebrahim Rasool, was later expelled after accusing Trump of “mobilising a supremacism” and trying to “project white victimhood as a dog whistle”.

In the Oval Office in May, Trump confronted South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa and claimed white farmers in his nation were being killed and “persecuted”.

The White House also played a video which they said showed burial sites for murdered white farmers. It later emerged that the videos were scenes from a 2020 protest in which the crosses represented farmers killed over multiple years.

The tense meeting came just days after the US granted asylum to 60 Afrikaners.

The South African government has vehemently denied that Afrikaners and other White South Africans are being persecuted.

On his first day in office on 20 January, Trump said the US would suspend USRAP to reflect the US’s lack of “ability to absorb large numbers of migrants, and in particular, refugees, into its communities in a manner that does not compromise the availability of resources for Americans” and “protects their safety and security”.

The US policy of accepting white South Africans has already prompted accusations of unfair treatment from refugee advocacy groups.

Some have argued the US is now effectively shut to other persecuted groups or people facing potential harm in their home country, and even former allies that helped US forces in Afghanistan or the Middle East.

“This decision doesn’t just lower the refugee admissions ceiling,” Global Refuge CEO and president Krish O’Mara Vignarajah said on Thursday. “It lowers our moral standing.”

“At a time of crisis in countries ranging from Afghanistan to Venezuela to Sudan and beyond, concentrating the vast majority of admissions on one group undermines the programme’s purpose as well as its credibility,” she added.

Refugees International also slammed the move, saying it “makes a mockery of refugee protection and of American values”.

“Let us be frank: whatever hardships some Afrikaners may face, this population has no plausible claim on refugee status – they are not fleeing systematic persecution,” Refugees International said in its statement.

The South African government has yet to respond to the latest announcement.

During the Oval Office meeting, President Ramaphosa said only that he hoped that Trump officials would listen to South Africans about the issue, and later said he believed there is “doubt and disbelief about all this in [Trump’s] head”.

Earlier this year, Ramaphosa signed a controversial law allowing the government to seize privately-owned land without compensation in some circumstances.

While the country does not release race-based crime figured, figures published earlier this year showed that 7,000 people were murdered in South African between October and December 2024.

Of these, 12 were killed in farm attacks and only one of the 12 was a farmer. Five others were farm dwellers and four were employees, who are likely to have been black.

Bagbin Can’t Hold His Laughter as MP Asks Minister to Reveal Number of Shrines in Ghana

News Hub Creator2h

According to a report by The 1957 News On Friday October 31, 2025, Parliament experienced a rare moment of humor when the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Professor Kingsley Nyarko, asked a surprising question during a parliamentary session. The legislator directed his question to the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, seeking to know the number of shrines in Ghana.

The question immediately drew attention in the chamber. Speaker Alban Bagbin’s reaction to the inquiry became the highlight of the session. His facial expression, a mix of surprise and amusement, sent laughter across the House. Some MPs could not hide their smiles, while others whispered among themselves, amused by the unexpected nature of the question.

Although the question sounded unusual to many, it raised a valid issue about the documentation and regulation of traditional religious practices in Ghana. In response, Minister Ahmed Ibrahim admitted that it would be difficult to determine the exact number of shrines in the country. He explained that many of these places of worship exist informally in various communities, making it hard to have a precise count.

The video of Speaker Bagbin’s reaction quickly went viral on social media, attracting widespread attention. Many Ghanaians shared their amusement, while others commended the MP for raising a question that touched on Ghana’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Some social media users praised the Speaker for maintaining decorum despite the comic moment.

This incident offered a lighter moment in Parliament and reminded citizens that even serious national discussions can carry a sense of humor. It also brought to light the importance of acknowledging Ghana’s diverse religious landscape.

NOBISCO bursar arrested for allegedly diverting food supplies meant for students

0

Fedelia Kudaariwo, a bursar at the Northern School of Business, Nobisco, has been caught for allegedly transferring food supplies meant for students to her house.

Two drivers of the school, Alhassan Sulemana and Osman Asma, were accosted by some volunteers on Thursday, October 30, when nine bags of maize were found in the school’s minibus, suspected to have been taken from the school’s store, according to a report

The volunteers who accosted the drivers explained that they were informed by some students that some people have been taking food from the school’s store at night, which made them monitor the activity, leading to the arrest.

The volunteers added that the driver,  named the bursar of the school as the one who had allegedly asked him to cart the items to her house.

They then went to the bursar’s house, where more food items were allegedly found.

They added that the bursar had absconded before the team got to her house, but later turned herself in to the police.
