Real Madrid forward, Vinicius Junior has publicly apologized for his behaviour during Real Madrid’s 2-1 El Clasico victory over Barcelona on Sunday, October 26, 2025, after reacting angrily to being substituted late in the match at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Brazilian, who was withdrawn with 15 minutes remaining, appeared visibly frustrated as he made his way off the pitch at the Santiago Bernabéu.

His outburst quickly drew attention from fans and media alike, with many questioning the display of emotion during such a crucial La Liga fixture.

Three days later, Vinicius has addressed the incident directly, taking full responsibility for his reaction and expressing remorse toward the club and its supporters.

Posting on social media, he wrote: “Today I want to apologize to all the Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clasico. Just as I have already done in person during today’s training, I also want to apologize again to my teammates, the club, and the president.”

“Sometimes passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive character stems from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents. I promise to keep fighting every second for the good of Real Madrid, as I have done since the first day.”

His words reflect a clear effort to draw a line under the incident and reaffirm his commitment to the team’s ambitions.

Known for his fiery passion and relentless drive, Vinicius’ apology struck a tone, acknowledging the emotional intensity that sometimes comes with representing Real Madrid at the highest level.

The 25-year-old remains one of Los Blancos’ most vital attacking outlets this season, and his pledge to “keep fighting every second” will come as reassurance to fans who have long admired his dedication and energy on the pitch.

With the apology issued and accepted internally, Vinicius now turns his focus back to helping Real Madrid in their pursuit of the La Liga title.

Cape Verde and Malawi are set to make their first appearance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) after securing their place at next year’s tournament alongside reigning champions Nigeria.

In the lead up to their second round tie against Angola, Malawi captain Tabitha Chawinga said the expansion of Wafcon from 12 to 16 teams would offer “great exposure” to those nations yet to make their debut at the continental showpiece.

A 2-0 aggregate victory saw the Scorchers guarantee a spot at the finals in Morocco, with midfielder Faith Chinzimu the hero as her two late goals secured victory in Lilongwe following a goalless first leg.

Cape Verde triumphed 4-2 away in Bamako to overturn a first-leg deficit and win out 4-3 on aggregate against Mali.

The achievement of Cape Verde’s women will give football fans on the island nation another reason to celebrate after the men’s team qualified for the World Cup earlier this month.

Meanwhile, holders Nigeria will get the chance to defend the trophy they won in July after they saw off Benin 3-1 overall, with Ashleigh Plumptre on target as the second game between the sides ended 1-1 in Abeokuta.

Among the other teams to secure their spot at the tournament, Kenya’s 4-1 aggregate victory over The Gambia will see the Harambee Starlets make just their second appearance at the finals, following on from a group stage exit in 2016.

Likewise, Burkina Faso will make their second appearance after they beat Togo 3-0 over both legs.

Algeria, Ghana, Senegal, Tanzania and Zambia will join them – as will 2022 winners South Africa, who needed a 91st-minute goal to ward off the possibility of a shock against DR Congo as Banyana Banyana eventually won the tie 2-1 courtesy of Thembi Kgatlana’s injury-time strike in Johannesburg.

With hosts Morocco already assured of their place, 12 nations have now been chosen for the finals, meaning four spots are still up for grabs.

The 11 losing sides from the second round could therefore still have a chance of qualifying, following the decision made by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) at the start of October to expand the tournament.

Caf has also not confirmed the dates of the tournament, but world governing body Fifa has previously earmarked the 2026 Wafcon to take place between 17 March and 3 April.

Agbeko opens up on living on the streets after drug addiction

0

Ghanaian rapper Agbeko is a Ghanaian rapper Ghanaian rapper Agbeko is a Ghanaian rapper

Ghanaian rapper Agbeko has opened up about the dark period of his life when drug addiction forced him to live on the streets and struggle with severe memory loss.

Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM on October 28, 2025, Agbeko recounted how his dependence on drugs caused him to lose everything he had worked for, including his home, savings, and social connections.

“I was doing drugs. I couldn’t get myself a place anymore; I had no means to. I lost everything that was holding me up, so I found myself on the street,” he said.

He admitted that despite earning some money from his music, the income was not enough to sustain him, as most of it went into survival and studio expenses.

“I would be lying if I said I didn’t get money from music. Though at that time, it wasn’t paying much, but the few shows I played, whatever amount of money I get, I divided it into parts. I was living alone, so I paid the bills.

‘Unkempt looking’ Agbeko spotted begging Andy Dosty for money

“Some of the money went into bills, some went into music, which was studio bookings and cutting promo CDs, and the other went into feeding. That’s how I managed the little I made from music,” he stated.

To support himself further, the ‘Wototome’ hitmaker stated that he ventured into small-scale trading.

“I was into indoor boutique where I sold clothes, and I sometimes carried the things around for people to buy,” he shared.

Agbeko also disclosed that during this difficult time, he began experiencing serious memory loss, which affected his relationships and how people perceived him.

“Along the line, too, I realised I had an issue with memory loss. It’s serious, so I feel like I need medical attention too. I started forgetting people I knew.

“When people who support me see me on the street and I don’t return their energies, they think I was being arrogant, but they don’t know what I’m going through, so I don’t blame anyone,” he added.

Agbeko made headlines again recently when photos of him living on the streets popped up, drawing a lot of comments from people who knew how vibrant he was when he was actively in music.

OSP raids home of Dr Sledge; seizes luxury vehicles, jewellery, and weapons

The OSP, led by Kissi Agyebeng (L), is investigating Nana Yaw Duodu (R), also known as Dr Sledge The OSP, led by Kissi Agyebeng (L), is investigating Nana Yaw Duodu (R), also known as Dr Sledge

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has conducted high-profile searches in its ongoing investigation into the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) gold trade programme, which is alleged to have caused a loss of US$94 million to the State.

The raids took place at the Trassaco residence of Nana Yaw Duodu, also known as Dr Sledge, and at the East Legon offices of Goldridge Company Limited, under warrants issued by the High Court in Accra.

Nana Yaw Duodu is facing scrutiny for “suspected corruption and corruption-related offences linked to the MIIF gold trade programme,” the OSP confirmed.

Why prominent businessman Dr Sledge was arrested by the OSP

In a post shared via X on October 29, 2025, the OSP said its Asset Recovery and Management Team seized “luxury vehicles, jewellery, weapons, and documents relating to landed properties” during the operations.

Meanwhile, the investigation remains ongoing.

Background

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) recently arrested Nana Yaw Duodu, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Goldridge Refinery Limited, who is reportedly a suspect in one of its ongoing investigations.

Nana Yaw Duodu, popularly known as Dr Sledge, was arrested on September 30, 2025, over suspected corruption and corruption-related offences linked to the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), particularly regarding the management of its gold trade programme.

Reports indicate that the State lost over US$94 million due to Goldridge’s alleged failure to fulfil its obligations in trade transactions under the Gold-for-Forex and Gold-for-Oil initiatives.

The CEO was detained after he reportedly failed to meet bail conditions.

It can be recalled that the OSP, in its half-year report, listed the MIIF investigation as one of its high-profile cases.

The probe covers payments linked to Agyapa Royalties, small-scale mining initiatives, lithium and gold projects, board expenditures, land acquisitions, and related contracts between 2020 and 2024.

Sudan’s military expels top UN food aid officials as conflict escalates

0

The World Food Programme says it is engaging with Sudanese authorities to resolve the matter The World Food Programme says it is engaging with Sudanese authorities to resolve the matter

Sudan’s military government has ordered two senior officials at the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) to leave the country amid widespread famine sparked by a gruelling civil war that erupted in April 2023.

The WFP said directors of its Sudan operation were declared “personae non grata” and told to go within 72 hours, without explanation.

The decision comes days after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), captured the key city of el-Fasher in Darfur from the military after an 18-month siege, which included a food blockade.

The WFP said the expulsions came a “pivotal time” as humanitarian needs in Sudan had “never been greater with more than 24 million people facing acute food insecurity”.

Although the military government has not given a reason for the expulsions, it has previously accused aid groups of breaking local laws and releasing misleading reports on famine conditions.

The government said the expulsion will not affect the country’s cooperation with the WFP, state news agency Suna reported.

The WFP says it is engaging with Sudanese authorities to resolve the matter.

Two-and-a-half years of fighting between the army and the RSF escalated on Sunday, when the RSF seized el-Fasher in the western region of Darfur.

There are now fears for the fate of the estimated 250,000 people in the city, many from non-Arab communities. Reports of atrocities, including mass-killings, have been mounting since the city fell.

“The situation in el-Fasher is extremely dire and there are violations taking place on the roads, including looting and shooting, with no distinction made between young or old,” one man who managed to escape el-Fasher told the BBC Arabic’s Sudan Lifeline programme.

“We managed to reach Tawila, where humanitarian organisations are present. We are grateful that we arrived, even though we have been sleeping on the roads.”

Tawila is a town about 60km (37 miles) west of el-Fasher and already hosts around 800,000 people – many of whom escaped from the vast Zamzam camp near el-Fasher when it was attacked by the RSF in April.

Since the conflict erupted, RSF fighters and allied Arab militia in Darfur have been accused of targeting people from non-Arab ethnic groups – allegations the RSF denies.

On Tuesday, the el-Fasher Resistance Committee, a group of local activists, accused the RSF of executing wounded people receiving treatment at the city’s Saudi Hospital.

Researchers at Yale University supported this allegation, saying satellite images appear to show “clusters” of bodies within the hospital grounds.

International bodies such as the European Union and African Union have expressed alarm, while locals say the current situation is reminiscent of the region’s darkest days.

Darfur experienced one of the world’s gravest humanitarian disasters from 2003 to 2020.

The Janjaweed, a militia who were accused of genocide and ethnic cleansing during this time, morphed into what is now the RSF.

Sudanese-American poet Emtithal Mahmoud, who has family in el-Fasher and lost relatives in the previous Darfur conflict, said she felt a “genocide” was occurring once again as seen from social media footage being posted by the RSF.

“The only difference… is that now it’s live streamed and video taped and sent around because the RSF understands that they can act with impunity,” Ms Mahmoud told the BBC.

The RSF denies targeting civilians.

Building cultural bridges between Lagos and Accra

0

Over the last decade, the cultural traffic between Nigeria and Ghana has been steady and undeniable. From shared stages to cross-border airplay, the two nations have continually found ways to trade rhythm, language, and influence.

Damilola ‘Dapper Akinwunmi’

Damilola ‘Dapper Akinwunmi’

These exchanges have shaped not only the sound of West Africa but also its cultural identity, proving that borders have never been barriers where music is concerned. Long before streaming metrics began dictating reach, the two cities exchanged sounds, slang, and sensibilities that shaped the direction of African music.

From the earliest days of highlife’s migration to Nigeria to the spread of Afrobeats across Ghanaian airwaves, this back-and-forth has proven that West Africa’s most enduring strength lies in collaboration. It is into this lineage that Dapper Music & Entertainment now steps with deliberate purpose.

What makes this purpose striking is not the move itself but the manner of it. Where many expansions announce themselves with grandeur, Dapper Music & Entertainment has taken a measured path, privileging cultural impact over spectacle.

By rooting its presence in Accra, the label acknowledges something that has always been true: that music is a shared language between the two cities, one that thrives not on competition but on connection. The expansion is not framed as entry into a “new market,” but as an extension of a cultural bridge already in place.

This approach reflects Dapper’s larger philosophy. The label has consistently balanced its business ambitions with a commitment to creative meaning, championing artists whose work carries emotional and social weight.

The decision to deepen ties with Ghana is not simply logistical; it is a recognition of the power of shared identity. In an era where short-lived virality dominates much of the industry, Dapper Music & Entertainment has positioned itself differently: as a curator of sounds that endure, stories that travel, and collaborations that build.

The presence of Ghanaian talent such as Lasmid makes this philosophy tangible. His catalogue, shaped by hiplife roots and Afropop storytelling, is proof of how authenticity resonates across borders. In bringing Lasmid into its fold, Dapper Music & Entertainment is not importing Nigerian templates but investing in the textures of Ghana’s own creativity. It is a statement that innovation in African music must come from within communities, not be imposed from outside them.

Beyond the music itself lies a deeper impact. For young listeners across Lagos and Accra, collaborations of this nature affirm that their shared realities are worthy of global stages.

For the industry, it signals a future in which growth is measured not by volume alone but by purpose. By choosing a path of integration, Dapper Music & Entertainment is demonstrating that expansion can be thoughtful, that labels can act as cultural custodians rather than mere distributors, and that the next decade of African sound may well be defined by bridges, not borders.

Dapper’s silent expansion strategy: Building cultural bridges between Lagos and Accra
Damilola Akinwunmi, ceo of dapper music and entertainment (Photo: Dapper)

Damilola Akinwunmi, ceo of dapper music and entertainment (Photo: Dapper)

The promise of this strategy is still unfolding, but its intent is already clear. By embedding itself within Accra’s creative fabric, Dapper Music & Entertainment is not only widening its reach but it is also contributing to a continental model of collaboration rooted in trust and mutual recognition.

If Lagos and Accra can stand as twin anchors of West Africa’s music future, it will be because of efforts like this: quiet, deliberate, and purpose-driven. And in that silence, a far louder story is being written, one of resilience, innovation, and shared destiny. And in that intent lies a vision for an African music industry that grows not by erasing differences, but by harmonising them.

Infractions in NHIS system contract referred to Attorney General – Akandoh

0

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has disclosed that infractions identified in the Lightwave Health Information Management System contract signed by the previous government have been referred to the Attorney General for advice and further action.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 29, Mr. Akandoh said the ministry’s investigations revealed significant irregularities in the execution of the contract with Lightwave Health Information Management System.

According to him, the contractor delivered less than half of the planned health facility connections but still received more than 77 million dollars, representing over 70% of the total contract sum.

The Minister explained that the government has since procured a new platform — the Ghana Healthcare Information Management System (GHIMS) — to replace the malfunctioning system and ensure continuity in healthcare delivery across the country.

“Since we began this journey, all stakeholders have been on board. From the CEO’s of the teaching hospitals, the medical superintendent, EOCO, the Attorney Generla, Minister for Communication, everybody has been on board. So the issue of legality and security issues has been referred to the Attorney General for advice and appropriate action.”

Mr. Akandoh further revealed that the Lightwave contract was never brought before Parliament.

“It was never a contract considered by Parliament,” he revealed.

He added that the vendor failed to act in good faith, making any effort to renegotiate the agreement difficult.

“They acted in bad faith,” he said.

The Minister also disclosed that the government had requested Lightwave to hand over control of the system and its infrastructure to the state, as required by the contract. However, complications emerged because the system was hosted on a cloud infrastructure in India, limiting Ghana’s control over the platform.

Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba is a former CEO of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has initiated criminal proceedings against the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, and four others over alleged offences involving stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.

Court documents filed at the High Court in Accra list the accused as Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, Faiza Seidu Wuni, Richard Sam-Asante (currently at large), The Aludiba Foundation, and Energy Partners Limited.

Together, they face 21 counts of various offences, including stealing, conspiracy, defrauding by false pretences, and the willful dissipation of public funds, in violation of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).

According to the charge sheet, made available to GhanaWeb, Abdul-Wahab, during his tenure as NAFCO CEO from February 2017 to February 2025, allegedly diverted over GH¢50.8 million of company funds under the pretext of payments to a supplier, Sawtina Enterprise.

He is also accused of transferring an additional GH¢5.49 million to his own company, Aludiba Enterprise, purportedly for the supply of food items to NAFCO.

Co-accused Faiza Seidu Wuni is alleged to have laundered more than GH¢13.2 million through her firm, Fa-Hausa Ventures, and caused a further GH¢4.4 million loss to the state through transactions with NAFCO in the name of Alqarni Enterprise.

The Aludiba Foundation and Energy Partners Limited, both reportedly linked to Abdul-Wahab, have also been charged for their alleged roles in receiving and laundering proceeds from the unlawful transactions.

The Attorney General’s Office maintains that the actions of the accused led to substantial financial losses to the Republic.

The case has been filed at the High Court in Accra, with proceedings expected to begin shortly.

Belief in witchcraft, poor access delay breast cancer detection in Paakro

0

Limited access to screening services and lingering beliefs that breast cancer is caused by witchcraft are delaying early detection and treatment among women in Paakro, a rural community in the Eastern Region.

This concern came to light during a community health and mentorship outreach organised by the Muslimah Mentorship Network on Saturday, October 24, 2025. The event brought together women from the Fante Town, Abaase, and Adjinase Piem electoral areas for free breast screening and education sessions.

The initiative, part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month, combined medical outreach for women with mentorship sessions for teenage girls focused on education, reproductive health, and personal growth.

Founder of the Muslimah Mentorship Network, Bilkis Nuhu Kokroko, said the programme was designed to support women and girls in underserved communities who often lacked access to health services and mentorship.

“Our goal is to reach communities where women rarely go for medical checks and where girls also need direction and mentorship,” she said. “We see this as a mother-daughter approach — mothers benefit from medical care and health education, while the girls learn about responsibility and the importance of staying focused on their education.”

She added that the Network would continue to organise similar community programmes to promote preventive health and empower young women to make informed choices.

“We want to build communities where women take charge of their health and girls take charge of their future,” she said.

Leading the screening exercise, Dr. Abdul Wadud Mohammed, a medical doctor who volunteered for the outreach, said misconceptions and limited access to healthcare were major obstacles to early breast cancer detection in rural areas.

“Many women delay seeking medical help because they believe breast cancer is spiritual or caused by witchcraft,” he explained. “Others prefer herbal remedies until it’s too late. These beliefs are dangerous because early detection is what saves lives.”

He said the medical team educated participants on how to perform self-breast examinations and urged them to seek professional help whenever they noticed unusual changes.

“We taught them to check for lumps, nipple discharge, or changes in the breast skin,” he said. “We also encouraged regular hospital visits for screening and advised families to support women to do so.”

Samira Mastura Sulleman, a senior public health nurse from Manna Mission Hospital who conducted most of the breast examinations, revealed that six women were referred for further tests after suspicious signs were detected.

“Some of the women had lumps or nipple discharges that required further checks,” she said. “They were referred for mammograms and biopsies to rule out cancer.”

She expressed concern that many women still preferred herbal treatments or spiritual explanations for breast conditions instead of seeking medical care.

“We heard several say they would rather try herbs first,” she said. “That mindset is dangerous. When women delay hospital visits, the disease often advances before they get medical help.”

The Assembly Member for Fante Town Electoral Area, Abdul Lateef Saeed, commended the Muslimah Mentorship Network for bringing health professionals to the community, describing the event as the first major breast cancer screening exercise in the area.

“Women from Fante Town, Abaase, and Adjinase Piem all gathered here for this exercise,” he said. “It has helped dispel some of the long-held myths that breast cancer is spiritual. Now people know it’s a medical issue.”

He called for stronger collaboration between health authorities and community leaders to sustain public education and screening efforts.

“We need more of these initiatives to reach people who rarely visit hospitals,” he said. “It’s the only way to change attitudes and save lives.”

As part of the day’s activities, mentors from the Network also held interactive sessions with teenage girls on issues affecting their wellbeing, including teenage pregnancy, menstrual hygiene, peer pressure, drug use, and early relationships.

The girls were encouraged to prioritise their education, make responsible choices, and seek guidance from mentors and trusted adults when facing challenges.

EPA bans fabrication, importation, and use of “Changfan” machines

0

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has announced an immediate ban on the fabrication, importation, sale, and use of “Changfan” machines in Ghana, citing severe environmental destruction caused by their use in illegal mining operations.

In a statement issued by the Authority, the EPA noted that the fabrication of Chanfan machines is being carried out without the necessary environmental permits or authorisation, in violation of the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124) and the Environmental Protection (Environmental Assessment) Regulations, 2025 (L.I. 2504).

According to the EPA, while the fabrication and sale of the machines have provided income for some individuals, their use in river mining has led to widespread pollution of water bodies, siltation of riverbeds, and destruction of aquatic life.

“In exercise of the powers conferred on the Environmental Protection Authority under sections 3(2)(b) and 35 of the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124)… the following directive is hereby issued,” the statement said.

The directive prohibits the fabrication, importation, and use of Chanfan machines without an EPA permit. It further warns that “any workshops or shops found producing or selling these machines will be shut down, and all existing equipment will be seized and dismantled.”

The EPA has also ordered all individuals, workshops, and establishments involved in the fabrication, importation, sale, or distribution of Chanfan machines to cease operations immediately.

The Authority issued a final warning to individuals and companies engaged in mining within water bodies to stop such illegal activities, emphasizing that these acts constitute serious violations of national environmental and mining laws.

The EPA stated that enforcement operations, in collaboration with security agencies, will be carried out to ensure full compliance through monitoring, seizure, and prosecution where necessary.

For further information, the public is advised to contact the Environmental Protection Authority via email at [email protected] or telephone numbers 0506694760 / 0507227726, or visit www.epa.gov.gh.

Media personalities should stop insulting me

Lumba's Abusuapanyin expressed disappointment over the lack of respect from the media Lumba’s Abusuapanyin expressed disappointment over the lack of respect from the media

With emotions high over Daddy Lumba’s funeral dispute, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu Banahene, the late musician’s family head, has cautioned journalists, bloggers, and media personalities to stop insulting him in their reports.

Speaking to the media after the Kumasi High Court on October 28, 2025, dismissed an injunction application that sought to halt the final funeral rites, he expressed disappointment over the lack of respect from some sections of the media.

Abusuapanyin will decide who performs Lumba’s widowhood rite – Lawyer

“I’m not happy at all. Some of these young media people insult me every day because of this funeral matter. I can give birth to some of them, yet they speak without respect. They should stop insulting an old man who is a head of a family,” he said.

The head of the Fosu family also declared that the family will go ahead with their plans for the Highlife legend’s funeral, insisting that no individual has the authority to override the funeral.

Owusu Banahene said the Kumasi High Court’s ruling had cleared the path for the family to proceed with their arrangements.

“The court has given us the go-ahead to organise the funeral. I will be going home to have a meeting with my family. We will do whatever we want to do. Nobody has any authority over the funeral apart from what the family head will say,” he stated.

His comments followed a Kumasi High Court’s dismissal of an injunction application filed by Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, who had sought to halt the funeral.

The injunction, filed against the late singer’s partner, Odo Broni, family head Kofi Owusu Banahene, and Transitions Funeral Home, alleged that Akosua Serwaa had been sidelined from the funeral planning and only learned about the scheduled date through social media.

Samira in Central as Bawumia storms Western North region

The campaign to secure the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential nomination for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has launched a synchronized, two-front offensive, with the candidate and his wife, Samira Bawumia, campaigning simultaneously in two critical regions to maximize reach and delegate impact.

In a powerful display of strategic coordination, the former Second Lady is currently courting delegates in the Central Region, while Dr Bawumia himself is leading a major campaign blitz through the Western North Region.

The parallel tours underscore a well-orchestrated effort to cover more ground and solidify support across the party’s strongholds and battlegrounds ahead of the January 31, 2026, primaries.

The Central Region, is the focus of Samira Bawumia’s persuasive charm. There, she is engaging party executives and delegates, leveraging her renowned eloquence and grassroots connection to make a compelling case for her husband.

Her message is centered on Dr Bawumia’s vision for Jobs for the Youth, economic transformation, and unifying the party to win election 2028.

“We are building a movement of hope and competence,” she told a gathering of women organizers. “Mahamudu is the leader who can consolidate our gains and lead us to a victorious future.”

Meanwhile, over 300 kilometers away, Dr Bawumia is bringing his own message directly to the people of Western North. His tour of the resource-rich region involves town hall meetings, interactions with traditional leaders, and intense delegate engagements.

He is emphasizing his track record and detailed plans for job creation, infrastructure development, and leveraging technology to transform key sectors of the economy.

‘72% of voters say, ‘it’s still Bawumia!’ – Global InfoAnalytics

A source within the Bawumia campaign described the dual-track strategy as a “masterstroke of political logistics.”

“While the Vice President is on the ground in the Western North, demonstrating his direct commitment and detailed policy grasp, Hajia Samira is simultaneously softening the ground and winning hearts in a crucial battleground,” the source stated. “It’s a force-multiplier effect; we are effectively fighting on two major fronts at once, with both campaigns reinforcing the same central message of unity and vision.”

Political analysts see this coordinated effort as a sign of a sophisticated and well-resourced campaign. “Running two high-profile, effective campaign tours simultaneously is no small feat,” commented political scientist Dr Forson Gyan. “It demonstrates organizational strength and a deep understanding of the electoral map.

Samira’s appeal in the Central Region complements the Vice President’s direct engagement in the Western North. They are not just a political couple; they are a strategic partnership executing a unified plan with one clear goal: victory on January 31.”

With the primaries drawing nearer, the Bawumia campaign’s two-front strategy signals an aggressive and comprehensive push to leave no delegate behind, proving that the race for the flagbearership is being fought with relentless energy and meticulous planning.

Nvidia becomes the world’s first $5 trillion company

Nvidia just became the world’s first $5 trillion company Nvidia just became the world’s first $5 trillion company

Nvidia just became the world’s first $5 trillion company.

Unprecedented demand for the company’s AI chips have propelled the company’s market valuation into the stratosphere. The milestone, which Nvidia reached at Wednesday’s open, comes just three months after the company crossed the $4 trillion mark. It took Nvidia about 13 months to go from $3 trillion to $4 trillion in valuation.

The company’s shares (NVDA) rose 3% after the market opened on Wednesday. Nvidia stock has gained about 50% in 2025 and has been near or at the top of the S&P 500’s best-performing stocks for years as investment in artificial intelligence continues to fuel the chipmaker’s meteoric rise.

Boosting Nvidia’s stock Wednesday: hopes for discussions between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping that open up China’s market to Nvidia’s high-end AI chips. On Tuesday, Nvidia’s stock rose after CEO Jensen Huang presented a vision of Nvidia’s future in which the company’s chips would be placed in everything from cell phone towers to robotic factories to self-driving cars. Huang, in his first-ever keynote address at the company’s GTC AI conference in Washington on Tuesday was effusive in his praise for Trump.

Nvidia’s AI chips are essential to powering the data centers that run the technology. The company is central to the AI boom not just because of those chips that are making it tons of money, but also because of the investments it’s pouring into other major players.

On Tuesday, another tech giant — Apple — breached the $4 trillion benchmark. It’s a sign that that the iPhone is still enough to excite consumers and Wall Street, even as the company has fallen behind in the AI race.

Meanwhile, Nvidia and AI leader OpenAI recently announced a major new tie-up, which will have the ChatGPT maker purchase billions of dollars’ worth of chips in exchange for a $100 billion investment from Nvidia that will be made over time. Nvidia also announced a $5 billion investment in beleaguered chipmaker Intel.

But the circular spending spree, paired with the industry’s eye-popping growth rates and the lack of clarity around the return on AI investments, has raised concerns that the AI market may be a bubble waiting to burst.

Still, Nvidia executives said during the company’s August earnings call that it estimates it will benefit from as much as $4 trillion in AI infrastructure spending by the end of the decade. In the most recent quarter, Nvidia raked in nearly $26 billion in net income.

Police fire tear gas as protests erupt during Tanzania election

0

The opposition has accused the government of undermining democracy, which it denies The opposition has accused the government of undermining democracy, which it denies

Police in Tanzania’s main city Dar es Salaam have fired tear gas to disperse opposition supporters protesting against the general election taking place in the East African state.

The election is expected to be a shoo-in for President Samia Suluhu and her ruling party, as the main opposition leader is in in jail on treason charges, which he denies, and his party has boycotted the vote.

Several people have been injured in the confrontation after groups of protesters gathered along major highways to demand electoral reforms, and free political activity.

Protesters lit fires on roads, vandalised buses, and caused extensive damage to bus terminals and other public infrastructure.

“We are tired… We want an independent electoral commission so that every Tanzanian can choose the leader they want,” a protester told the BBC.

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Alfred Chalamila warned that the government would take strong action against those disrupting peace in the city.

Internet watchdog NetBlocks reported a “nationwide disruption to internet connectivity” in a statement on X.

Reports say that voter turnout in Dar es Salaam was low when polls opened on Wednesday, with many hesitant to show up amid safety concerns.

A police spokesperson assured the public there was no threat to their safety, saying “people should come out and vote”, according to a message posted on social media.

More than 37 million registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the presidential and parliamentary election.

Sixteen fringe parties, none of whom have historically had significant public support, have been cleared to contest against President Samia, who is seeking a second term.

The only other serious contender, Luhaga Mpina of the ACT-Wazalendo party, was disqualified on legal technicalities.

Samia’s ruling party, CCM, has dominated the country’s politics and has never lost an election since independence.

Ahead of the election, rights groups condemned government repression, with Amnesty International citing a “wave of terror” involving enforced disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial killings of opposition figures.

The government rejected the claims, and officials said the election would be free and fair.

Samia came into office in 2021 as Tanzania’s first female president following the death of President John Magufuli.

She was initially praised for easing political repression under her predecessor, but the political space has since narrowed, with her government accused of targeting critics through arrests and a wave of abductions.

The electoral body is expected to announce results in three days after voting ends.

The 16 Years hitmaker has harboured some resentment towards the counsellor since 2023 when her son, Okomfo Black, made some controversial remarks about religion.

In an interview, Mzbel’s son stated that he did not believe in the existence of God because it was his mother who took care of and catered for him throughout his life.

The then 10-year-old boy also noted that it was his mother who gave birth to him and that God did not create him.

Okomfo Black received massive backlash from Ghanaians, including Counsellor Charlotte Oduro, who vowed that she and other Christians would stand against anyone who spoke negatively about God.

The video of Okomfo Black speaking about the non-existence of God is below:

The singer vowed that she would strongly criticise the counsellor whenever she finds herself in the middle of controversy.

Mzbel stated that she previously did not speak about Charlotte Oduro’s divorce drama due to the busy schedule she had at the time.

She noted that she would forever speak about the issue due to the counsellor’s past actions towards her son.

She said:

“If you tell people to rise up against my son, they will do it. So, my son had to quit school. He is now a school dropout. I will speak whenever she is involved in a controversial issue. When her issue was trending, I didn’t speak because I was busy.”

“I have told myself that even if it takes 10 years for me to get free time, I will speak about her.”

The veteran singer said she decided to withdraw her son from school to protect him from people she claimed Charlotte Oduro incited against the boy.

Mzbel also called out the counsellor for currently indulging in some acts she previously preached against after her divorce from her husband, Apostle Solomon Oduro.

AG Seeks Time To Respond To Torkornoo Removal Writ

0

Dr. Dominic Ayine

The Office of the Attorney General (AG) has filed an application asking the Supreme Court to grant it leave to file out of time, a response to a writ filed by Member of Parliament (MP) for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, challenging the processes regarding the petitions that resulted in the removal of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo as Chief Justice.

The MP had sued the government through the Attorney General in April 2025, arguing that upon a true and proper interpretation of articles 146(1), (2), (4), (6) and (7), 23, 57(3) and 296 of the Constitution, the President is mandated to notify the Chief Justice as well as obtain a response from her before referring the petition to the Council of State or commencing the consultation process.

He contends that a failure by the President to furnish the Chief Justice with copies of the petition seeking her removal, and she responding to the allegations made against her before the initiation of the consultation process with the Council of State violates Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution.

In spite of the writ being filed in April 2025, the Attorney General has not filed a statement of defence, six months after his office had been served with the writ.

While the Attorney General was waiting to file a defence, a five-member committee chaired by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, a Justice of the Supreme Court, heard one of the petitions and recommended that Justice Torkornoo be removed from office.

The President, on September 1, 2025, enforced the recommendation and removed Justice Torkornoo from office as Chief Justice as well as a Justice of the Supreme Court.

The Attorney General has now filed an application asking for leave to file a defence out of time, indicating that the delay was due to “administrative procedures and arrangements attendant to the 2025 presidential transition and the subsequent compulsory retirement of the Solicitor-General.”

The application further indicates that the delay in preparing and filing the statement of defence was neither deliberate nor in bad faith.

Economic stability is earned through discipline

Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is Ghana's Vice President play videoProfessor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is Ghana’s Vice President

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has stated that economic stability is not a gift but a reflection of collective discipline by both government and citizens.

Speaking at the 14th Ghana Economic Forum (GEF), she emphasised that Ghana’s recent signs of economic recovery will not be sustained unless the country resists short-term fixes and embraces long-term value creation.

She advocated for value addition as a key pathway to cedi stability and economic resilience.

“Ladies and gentlemen, stability is not a gift. It is a sign of discipline. It is built on habits, such as paying taxes regularly and honestly, producing more than we consume, demanding accountability from all citizens, working together for the common good, and investing in our own capacity to add value,” she said.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang warned that Ghana’s overdependence on raw commodity exports and excessive reliance on imports continue to weaken the fundamentals of the cedi and expose the economy to external shocks.

“When we depend too heavily on raw exports and excessively on imports, and when we fail to discipline our fiscal habits, the cedi pays the price,” she noted.

“Cocoa must not leave our shores as beans, bauxite must not leave as ore, and gold must not leave as dust,” she added.

Touching on the recent appreciation of the cedi, the Vice President attributed it to the hard work and trust built by institutions and individuals committed to Ghana’s economic progress.

She said the gains are the outcome of fiscal prudence, tighter expenditure controls, and disciplined financial management, which continue to anchor Ghana’s path to recovery.

Deputy Finance Minister urges shift from donor aid to co-investment in education

0

Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko has urged development partners and the private sector to move away from donor-led interventions toward strategic co-investments that align with Africa’s educational and economic priorities.

Speaking at the AdEA Triennale 2025 on Wednesday, October 29, Nyarko called for stronger collaboration between African governments, investors, and innovators to drive sustainable transformation in the education sector.

“I extend a sincere call for transformation to our development and private sector partners. Let’s move from donor-led interventions to strategic co-investments. Let us align capital, expertise, and innovation with our homegrown priorities, from STEM education and digital infrastructure to technical and vocational training.

“So that our investments directly empower the next generation of African thinkers, innovators and leaders,” he said.

He emphasised that reimagining education financing across Africa goes beyond ensuring access to learning, noting that it represents a fundamental step toward building a self-sustaining and prosperous continent.

“In reimagining education financing in Africa, we’re doing more than fulfilling a right. We’re building the economic engine for the continent we desire, ” he stated.

The AdEA Triennale 2025 convened education leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from across Africa to explore transformative strategies for the continent’s education future under the theme: “Strengthening the Resilience of Africa’s Educational Systems.”

All 14 victims recovering, some discharged – GNFS

0

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that all 14 people rescued from Tuesday’s building collapse at Roman Ridge in Accra are recovering well, with some already discharged from the hospital.

Head of Public Relations at GNFS, DO2 Desmond Ackah, told Adom News that those who sustained serious injuries are in stable condition and receiving medical care, while victims with minor injuries have been released.

“All 14 people who were trapped have been rescued and are doing well. Those who suffered minor injuries were discharged yesterday, and the others are out of danger but still under medical observation,” he said.

The incident occurred when part of a building under construction gave way, trapping workers under the debris. Emergency response teams, including GNFS personnel, quickly intervened to rescue everyone affected.

DO2 Ackah noted that investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the collapse.

“We have directed the engineer and the contractor to halt all activities on the site while we, together with other experts, conduct a thorough investigation,” he stated.

He also cautioned developers and contractors to adhere strictly to building codes and safety regulations. “Builders must engage certified professionals, provide proper safety equipment, and secure all necessary permits to protect lives,” he advised.

The GNFS says it will update the public once the investigation is concluded.

LHIMS system disruption caused by vendor ‘sabotage’

0

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health

The Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has alleged that the recent disruption of the Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS) was an act of blackmail by the vendor, intended to pressure the government into removing key clauses from a new agreement.

According to him, the new maintenance agreement between the government and the LHIMS vendor required the company to hand over data and grant the state full administrative access to the system.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the minister noted, however, that the vendor objected to these provisions.

“To avoid this disruption and the shutdown we are experiencing, although we didn’t have any contract with the vendor at the time we took over, we indicated to them that the Ministry was ready to sign a service maintenance agreement covering the 450 health facilities,” the sector minister said.

“Don’t forget that the software is and was not for the state, that is why it is called LHIMS. In the agreement, we indicated that before we sign such an agreement with you, you have to hand over the data to the state and you must give us administrative access to the service. The vendor insisted that those clauses must be removed from the agreement,” he added.

Akandoh further noted that the government’s refusal to remove the clauses prompted the vendor to intentionally disrupt the system.

“We cannot expunge those clauses from the agreement because it is the state that must take charge of this data. So the vendor decided to switch the system off as and when he desired, and demanded what he wanted. This has gone on for more than two months, and for the past two weeks or so, the system has been completely down. If this is not blackmail, I don’t know what it is,” he stated.

What your NHIS card can do for you

The Health Minister mentioned that the government is developing a new state-owned platform, the Ghana Healthcare Information Management System (GHIMS), which will replace LHIMS and ensure national control over medical data.

Meanwhile, the breakdown of the LHIMS system has caused widespread delays in record-keeping and patient processing, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where many hospitals have reverted to manual operations.

This comes after patients expressed frustration over prolonged waiting times and slower service delivery.

Ghana’s fiscal gains reflect discipline, not miracles — Vice President

0

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang says Ghana’s economic recovery is not a miracle but the result of deliberate policy actions aimed at restoring stability and rebuilding confidence.

She explained that the country’s recent gains are the outcome of fiscal prudence, tighter expenditure controls, and disciplined financial management, which continue to anchor Ghana’s path to recovery.

Speaking at the 14th Ghana Economic Forum organized by the Business and Financial Times in Accra, the Vice President cautioned against short-term policies that undermine long-term growth, stressing the need to consolidate recent progress.

“Short term comfort should never come at the cost of long term stability. The same lesson applies to our currency and our economy. It is the very reason that we are resetting our economy,” she said.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang underscored the importance of macroeconomic stability, warning that the effects of a weak cedi extend far beyond the financial sector.

“When the cedi weakens, it is not only economists who feel the pain. Every household suffers the consequences. This is why macroeconomic stability must not be dismissed as a simple abstract achievement,” she stated.

She added that Ghana’s fiscal reforms are now beginning to deliver results, but urged caution against complacency.

“The fiscal reforms are beginning to bear fruit. These are not miracles. However, ladies and gentlemen, this is not the time for complacency. It is a time for consolidation.”

Supreme Court dismisses Adu-Boahene’s request for trial judge’s removal

Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng have been slapped with 11 charges Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng have been slapped with 11 charges

The Supreme Court of Ghana has dismissed an application for the judge presiding over the GH¢49 million National Security case involving the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene; and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, to be taken off the case.

The Adu-Boahenes, through their lawyer, filed an application asking the apex court of the land to prohibit the High Court judge from hearing the case, accusing him of bias.

But the Supreme Court, in a 5-0 unanimous decision, dismissed the application, according to multiple reports.

Adu-Boahene, Adjei-Boateng, and their company have been slapped with 11 charges for allegedly transferring GH¢49 million (approximately $7 million) from the bureau’s account to their personal account.

Addressing the press on Monday, March 24, 2025, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, stated that Adu-Boahene was implicated in the unauthorised transfer of $7 million, originally allocated for cybersecurity infrastructure, into his private accounts.

GH¢49m National Security Case: NSB staff, ‘errand boy’ file witness statement against Adu-Boahene

“In his capacity as Director of the National Signals Bureau, Mr Adu-Boahene, on January 30, 2020, signed a contract on behalf of the Government of Ghana and the National Security on the one hand, and on the other hand, an Israeli company named RLC Holdings Limited. The contract was for the purchase of a cyber defence system software at a price of $7 million,” the Attorney General said.

Providing further details, Dr Ayine disclosed that just days after signing the agreement, Adu-Boahene initiated a suspicious transaction.

“On February 6, 2020, he then transferred an initial amount of GH¢27,100,000 from the National Signals Bureau account at Fidelity Bank to a private BNC account at UMB. Official documentation on the transfer reveals that the amount was for the payment of cyber defence system software. He transferred the money to his private company,” he told the media.

According to Dr Ayine, investigations further uncovered that the former NSB boss allegedly channelled the funds not only into his personal account, but also into accounts belonging to his wife.

Social media reacts to Bola Ray and Joselyn Dumas becoming GoldBod ambassadors

Bola Ray and Joselyn Dumas were unveiled as GoldBod Jewellery ambassadors Bola Ray and Joselyn Dumas were unveiled as GoldBod Jewellery ambassadors

Following the appointments of Bola Ray and Joselyn Dumas as brand ambassadors for GoldBod Jewellery, a subsidiary of the Ghana Gold Board, social media has been buzzing, with many questioning the need for such roles in a state-linked entity.

GoldBod Jewellery announced the two creative personalities as its new faces in a bid to promote Ghana’s gold heritage and showcase the craftsmanship in jewellery production.

According to the institution, the move is part of an effort to project Ghanaian artistry and ethical gold sourcing to the global market.

GoldBod Taskforce arrests American, Moroccan and Ghanaians for illegal gold buying

At the unveiling ceremony held at the company’s head office on October 28, 2025, the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod Jewellery, Sammy Gyamfi, described the partnership as a “landmark initiative aimed at projecting Ghanaian innovation and craftsmanship in jewellery design for both domestic and international markets.”

However, many Ghanaians on social media are questioning the logic behind the decision.

One X user asked, “Why does a regulator need Brand Ambassadors? What ‘Brand’ are they marketing?”

Another user linked the appointment to the broader issue of government size and efficiency, writing, “This is why narratives of a lean government, if made too formalistic about the number of ministers and deputies appointed, overlook the broader perspective.”

The same user continued, “If we intend reducing the size of government for a more effective system of governance without duplicate or needless roles, it needs to be reflected in the government’s overall policy. If you appoint 18 ministers yet staff state agencies with 600 employees, we’ve not progressed. It is the same problem being replicated in a different way.”

Others questioned the relevance of Bola Ray and Joselyn Dumas’s roles, arguing that such appointments seem unnecessary.

“What will they be doing as brand ambassadors? Very needless appointment,” another user commented.

Standard Chartered and First National Bank (FNB) Zambia have entered into an agreement for the sale of Standard Chartered Zambia’s Wealth and Retail Banking (WRB) business portfolio in Zambia.

This follows Standard Chartered’s 27 November 2024 announcement of its intention to explore a potential sale, in line with the Bank’s global strategy to concentrate resources where it offers the most distinctive client proposition. Standard Chartered’s Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) business within Zambia is unaffected.

Under the agreement, all Standard Chartered Zambia WRB clients will transfer to FNB Zambia and, all WRB employees will be offered employment with FNB Zambia. The two banks will work closely together in the coming months to ensure a seamless transition for all stakeholders. Rand Merchant Bank (RMB), a subsidiary of FirstRand Limited, served as the sole transaction advisor to FNB Zambia.

The announcement was made today at Standard Chartered’s Head Office in Zambia where Acting Board Chairperson of Standard Chartered Zambia, Madam Irene Lombe Chibesakunda and Mr. Richard Mazombwe, Board Chair, FNB Zambia led the event. The signing ceremony was attended by Bongiwe Gangeni, Head, Wealth & Retail Banking, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Standard Chartered and Bydon Longwe, FirstRand CEO of Broader Africa. Sonny Zulu, CEO and Managing Director, Standard Chartered Zambia, signed the agreement alongside Kapumpe Chola, CEO, FNB Zambia.

The signatories later had a meeting with staff of Standard Chartered in Zambia, including Standard Chartered Zambia’s Acting Board Chairperson, Madam Lombe Chibesakunda.

Kariuki Ngari, Managing Director & CEO, Standard Chartered Kenya & Africa said: “In November last year, we set out how the Bank is doubling down on our affluent and cross-border strategy. The sale of our Wealth and Retail banking business to FNB Zambia marks an important milestone as we continue to accelerate income growth and returns. We look forward to working closely with FNB’s team over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition while safeguarding the interests of our valued clients and prioritising our employees.”

Commenting on the agreement, Kapumpe Chola, CEO of FNB Zambia stated, “Today represents a significant milestone as FNB Zambia and Standard Chartered Bank formalise an agreement for the transfer of the Wealth and Retail Banking business. This moment underscores the strength, credibility, and evolution of Zambia’s financial landscape. This strategic move also signals a new chapter of growth, unlocking greater opportunities to expand services and deepen customer value in Zambia and across the region.”

Sonny Zulu, Managing Director of Standard Chartered Zambia, noted: “This agreement marks a pivotal moment in executing our global strategy – focusing on areas where we are most differentiated and can create the greatest impact. We remain fully committed to Zambia, and our Corporate and Investment Banking clients will continue to receive the high-quality service, trusted partnership, and innovative solutions they expect from Standard Chartered. We are confident that our WRB clients and colleagues will be in excellent hands with FNB Zambia.”

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals.

NHIS system breakdown due to sabotage from vendor

0

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has alleged that the recent disruption of the Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS) was an act of blackmail by the vendor to pressure the government into removing key clauses from a new agreement.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 29, the Minister revealed that the new maintenance agreement between the government and the LHIMS vendor required the company to hand over data and grant the state full administrative access to the system.

However, he said the vendor objected to those provisions.

“To avoid this disruption and the shutdown we are experiencing — although we didn’t have any contract with the vendor at the time we took over — we indicated to them that the Ministry was ready to sign a service maintenance agreement covering the 450 health facilities,” he explained.

“Don’t forget that the software is and was not for the state — that is why it is called LHIMS. In the agreement, we indicated that before we sign such an agreement with you, you have to hand over the data to the state and you must give us administrative access to the service. The vendor insisted that those clauses must be removed from the agreement,” he said.

According to the Minister, the government’s refusal to delete those clauses prompted the vendor to intentionally disrupt the system.

Mr. Akandoh added that the government is developing a new state-owned platform — the Ghana Healthcare Information Management System (GHIMS) — to replace LHIMS and ensure national control over medical data.

The system breakdown has caused widespread delays in record-keeping and patient processing, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where many hospitals have reverted to manual operations. Patients have since expressed frustration over prolonged waiting times and slower service delivery.

The Health Minister assured the public that the government remains committed to restoring and strengthening the nation’s digital health infrastructure.

Auditor-General exposes how Gifty Oware illegally enrolled herself as NSS personnel

0

Mrs Gifty Oware-Mensah, former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA)

The latest report by the Auditor-General has revealed that Mrs Gifty Oware-Mensah, former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), was unlawfully enrolled as a National Service Person (NSP) while simultaneously serving as a full-time salaried public officer, a direct breach of the Scheme’s regulations.

According to the technical and forensic audit on the CSMP and Metric App of the National Service Authority, covering the 2021/2022 service year, Mrs Oware-Mensah (formerly known as Gifty Oware-Aboagye) was manually added to the NSS payroll despite holding an executive position at the institution.

Her enrolment, which was based on a Master of Public Administration degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), violated both the National Service Act and internal regulations that prohibit public officers from receiving national service allowances.

The audit revealed that Mrs Oware-Mensah was posted to the Koblimahagu Sobriya Primary School in Tamale but failed to report to her assigned post. Further checks showed that she was manually uploaded into the NSS system by Adjei Robert Nii Laryea Kumah, an officer of the National Service Authority (NSA).

Additionally, the audit found that her Personal Identification Number (PIN) was approved on 22 April 2021 by Mustapha Ussif, who had been appointed Minister for Youth and Sports on 12 January 2021 and therefore lacked the requisite authority to authorise the PIN approval.

Mustapha Ussif

She also did not complete any of the fourteen (14) mandatory biometric and physical validations required for all personnel. Despite this, she received allowances totalling GH¢6,708.48, which were automatically deducted and paid to a vendor through the NSS “MarketPlace” platform for a purported credit facility.

Further investigations indicated that this case formed part of a wider pattern of system abuse. On 16 March 2021, an NSS officer manually uploaded 4,557 names of postgraduate students from KNUST, of which only nineteen (19) were regionally approved. Nevertheless, 2,802 individuals were paid a combined GH¢899,349.67 in allowances without adequate verification or evidence of actual service.

Auditors attributed these irregularities to manual overrides of enrolment systems, weak internal controls, and the failure to enforce automated verification checks designed to prevent dual enrolment. They also identified misuse of the MarketPlace platform to divert funds without proof of goods or services delivered.

Describing the development as a grave breach of the NSS’s statutory and procedural framework, the Auditor-General warned that such lapses expose the scheme to “unauthorised payments, ghost enrolments, and significant financial losses.”

Recommendations by the Auditor-General

The Auditor-General has recommended a series of corrective actions, including:

  • Full recovery of unearned allowances from Mrs Oware-Mensah and other implicated individuals.

  • Retrieval of outstanding payments from two officials, Osei Assibey Antwi and Eric Nyarko, who authorised and processed the irregular transactions.

  • Surcharging Oware-Mensah, Antwi, and Nyarko with GH¢899,349.67 at the prevailing Bank of Ghana interest rate.

  • Termination of the NSS “MarketPlace” hire-purchase scheme, which auditors said falls outside the Scheme’s core mandate.

  • Implementation of automated controls to prevent dual enrolment by public officers.

  • Disciplinary sanctions against officials who bypassed verification and approval procedures.

The report also urged the National Service Authority to strengthen oversight and enhance digital verification systems to ensure that only duly accepted and regionally approved personnel are deployed and paid.

Let’s make Ho shine as we welcome Ghana to Volta Region

James Gunu is the Volta Regional Minister James Gunu is the Volta Regional Minister

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has called on the people of the Volta Region, home and abroad, to join hands as the region is set to host this year’s National Farmers Day celebration.

The Volta Region has been selected to host the 41st National Farmers Day celebration, scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025, under the theme: “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future”.

The Volta Regional Minister, in a press briefing in Ho with the media ahead of the celebration, described the selection as both an honour and an opportunity for the region to showcase its agricultural potential and cultural heritage to attract investors and foreign partners.

Gunu emphasised that the farmers’ day celebration provided a key and essential platform to celebrate and honour the contributions of farmers and fishermen to Ghana’s food security, economic development, and sustainability.

Alongside the national event, the Volta Trade and Investment Fair will showcase the region’s rich agricultural potential, business opportunities, culture, and hospitality.

“It will also create a vibrant platform for investors, entrepreneurs, and our hardworking farmers to connect and grow together,” he observed.

“Hosting these two major national programmes is both an honour and a great opportunity to boost our local economy, promote tourism, and attract meaningful investment into our region.”

He added, “We are blessed with fertile lands and hardworking farmers, and hosting this year’s celebration allows us to display our agricultural strength to the rest of the country.”

Gunu revealed that district and municipal assemblies in the region will hold their farmers’ day activities a week before the national celebration to recognise local farmers and fishermen at the community level.

This, he said, would enable the districts to fully participate in the national celebration and showcase their potential.

This year’s celebration is expected to draw dignitaries, policymakers, agricultural experts, and exhibitors from across Ghana and beyond to the region.

“I call on all stakeholders, traditional authorities, the private sector, development partners, and our media friends to join hands with us to make these events truly historic. Together, we will showcase the best of the Volta spirit, unity, hard work, and excellence,” he exhorted.

The Volta Regional Minister expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for selecting the Volta Region as host and assured that the chiefs, elders, and people of the region were fully prepared to make the 41st National Farmers Day celebration a memorable and successful event.

Eschew Acts That Undermine Cedi’s Value – Finance Minister

0

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has called on Ghanaians to refrain from actions that undermine the value of the Cedi.

The Minister who made the call during the launch of the Cedi@ 60 anniversary celebration in Accra yesterday, said it is important for the cedi to be protected as a nation’s currency.

He said the Cedi remains a vital symbol of economic independence and national pride adding that it does not only  serves as a store of value and a medium of exchange that connects citizens and facilitates trade but also serves as a representation of the  country’s sovereignty and heritage.

“From the days of our first republic through to 33 years of uninterrupted democracy, the Cedi has remained resilient,” he said. “Through periods of inflation, devaluation, redenomination, and recovery, the Cedi stands as a symbol of our national sovereignty.”

The Finance Minister emphasised that as the country celebrates 60 years of the Cedi, people must renew their commitment to safeguarding its stability while urging the public to avoid pricing goods and services in foreign currencies such as the US Dollar, warning that such practices weaken the local currency and harm the broader economy.

“Let me remind everyone that the Ghana Cedi is our only legal tender,” Dr. Forson stated firmly. “The US Dollar is not our currency. Continuous pricing of goods and services in Dollars only hurts us. Let’s stop it and protect what is ours,” he stated.

Dr. Forson also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline and ensuring a strong and stable Cedi. He said the Ministry of Finance remains dedicated to policies that strengthen the currency and promote economic growth.

“As managers of the economy, we have remained steadfast in ensuring a stable Cedi. Our commitment to fiscal responsibility has helped strengthen the currency, and we intend to sustain those gains,” he noted.

Dr. Forson further encouraged citizens to view the Cedi not as a burden but also as a badge of national pride and economic independence.

“Let us protect it, trade with it, and defend it with all that we have. The Ghana Cedi is more than just money, it is our heritage,” he added.

The anniversary launch, which brought together players in the banking industry, some past governors of the Central Bank, heads of commercial banks, ministers of state, some members of the diplomatic corps, members of the academia and several dignitaries, was held under the theme, “Cedi @ 60: A symbol of Sovereignty, Stability, and Economic Resilience.”

Stakeholders renew call for transparency as Ghana slips on corruption index

0

Ghana’s slip on the 2024 Corruption Perception Index, from 70th to 80th position, has reignited urgent calls for tougher anti-corruption measures.

Stakeholders are demanding stronger systems and stricter regulations on campaign financing to stem the rising tide of corruption.

At the National Commission for Civic Education’s (NCCE) national dialogue on Empowering Citizens and Promoting Accountability, supported by GIZ, the European Union, and other partners, Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Mary Addah, stressed the need for transparency in political funding.

Mary Addah interacting with Journalists

“Without full disclosure of who funds our politics, citizens can never truly know whose interests are being served in government,” she said.

She called for a shorter active campaign period, arguing that it would cut costs and reduce the incentive for corruption once parties assume power.

“When campaigns drag on for too long, parties overspend and then spend the next four years trying to recover those costs. A shorter campaign window can help curb that,” she added.

Deputy Chairman in charge of General Services at the NCCE, Victor Brobbey, attributed the rising levels of corruption to a breakdown in societal moral values.

Victor Brobbey

“We can’t fight corruption only with laws, it starts with values. Until we rebuild integrity at home, in schools, and in our public institutions, corruption will remain part of our culture,” he noted.

Former Dean of the University of Ghana Business School, Professor Justice Bawole, also underscored the need to reward citizens who uphold integrity, emphasizing that positive incentives are crucial to sustaining the fight against corruption.

Professor Justice Bawole

“We often punish wrongdoing but rarely celebrate integrity. If we start rewarding honest public servants, we’ll inspire a new culture where doing the right thing actually pays off,” he suggested.

The NCCE maintains that with sustained public education and civic engagement, corruption can be reduced to its barest minimum.

22 years after: Kay Smooth remembers Terry Bonchaka

0

Young star Terrence Nii Okan Mensah Adjetey, widely known as Terry Bonchaka, continues to be celebrated for his impact on Ghana’s music scene.

Ghanaian musician Kay Smooth has taken this time to reflect on the life and legacy of the legend who forever changed the rhythm of Ghana’s music.

In an emotional conversation on GTV’s Memorable Breakfast Show, Kay Smooth spoke with deep admiration about Terry’s creative energy and wild stagecraft that lit up every crowd. He described Terry as “a fearless performer who made the stage his playground and turned every show into a festival.”

Kay Smooth, born Isaac Nii Adotey Pappoe, is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and performer known for his silky-smooth vocals and emotionally rich songs. As a fellow artist, his tribute carried extra weight. He said Terry’s originality and confidence inspired a wave of young performers to step up their craft.

Terry Bonchaka, born Terry Nii Addo Mensah Adjetey, burst onto the scene in the early 2000s with his energetic fusion of hiplife beats and street charisma. With hits like “Pulele” and “Lomna Va,” he brought a new flavor to Ghanaian music—one that celebrated local culture with youthful energy.

Sadly, on October 29, 2003, after performing at the University of Ghana’s Akuafo Hall Week celebration, Terry’s life was cut short in a car accident. He was only 21.

Kay Smooth’s reflection focused not on the loss but the impact. “Terry opened the door for stage performance in Ghana,” he said. “Before him, most artists just sang; after him, performance became art—energy, fashion, movement, and spirit.”

He urged fans to keep Terry’s memory alive through music, video clips, and stories. For Kay Smooth, Terry’s influence still shapes the sound and passion of today’s performers, proof that true artistry never dies.

While honoring Terry Bonchaka’s legacy, Kay Smooth is also keeping his own fire burning. His latest single, “Seaman Jorley,” is out now on all major platforms—a vibrant, danceable track that blends Afrobeat grooves with smooth vocals and catchy Ghanaian street energy.

The song shows Kay Smooth’s versatility and reminds fans that he’s not just a voice of remembrance, but a creator still pushing boundaries in Ghana’s modern music scene.

Terry Bonchaka’s flame continues to burn through artists like Kay Smooth—proof that legends don’t fade, they pass the torch.

Rada Cheang (L) calls Michael Blackson’s apology pathetic Rada Cheang (L) calls Michael Blackson’s apology pathetic

Following Michael Blackson’s apology for fathering another child just two months after his ex-fiancée gave birth, Rada Cheang has responded to his apology.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Rada labelled Michael Blackson’s apology as pathetic, adding that she would not allow herself to be drawn into negativity.

“I don’t normally respond, but let’s just agree that was the most pathetic post or apology ever. I’m walking in peace, guided by God’s grace. My energy belongs to my 4-month-old son, not to negativity,” she wrote.

Rada went on to share that although many people saw the situation as embarrassing, her love for Blackson came from a place of understanding and compassion.

“When love runs that deep, you stop seeing the man and start seeing the boy who just wanted to be loved and that’s what breaks you,” she said.

Rada, looking back on their relationship, admitted that she stayed longer than she should have, describing their time together as a “circus.”

“I take full accountability for staying in the circus too long. His type was never me because I’m a real woman,” she said.

Background

Michael Blackson, on October 27, 2025, issued an apology to Rada Cheang. In his post on Instagram, he admitted that he had welcomed another baby with a different woman just two months after the birth of his son with Rada.

The comedian revealed that his two sons were born close together: little Mikey on June 17, 2025, and King Kweku on August 6, 2025.
