Triple Ghanaian Olympian, Reverend Osei Kofi, has voiced his frustration over the lack of recognition despite his immense contributions to the country.
A pivotal figure in Ghanaian football, Osei Kofi played a crucial role in the Black Stars’ success, securing the AFCON title three times in 1963, 1965, and 1982.
In an interview, the three-time Ghana Premier League champion pointed to how Real Madrid honoured their legendary player, Alfredo Di Stefano, by naming one of their stadiums after him, giving him global recognition.
Osei Kofi expressed his desire for a similar tribute to be made in Ghana for former footballers who have greatly contributed to the Black Stars’ success on the international stage.
Osei Kofi, who was the joint-top scorer of the 1965 Africa Cup of Nations held in Tunisia, and the third-highest scorer in the 1968 edition, hopes such acknowledgement will inspire future generations.
The Ghanaian government has announced plans to urgently engage the United States over the newly imposed 10 per cent universal tariff on imports, including goods from Ghana, which took effect on April 5, 2025.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry, the government assured exporters and investors of its commitment to resolving the issue to avoid trade disruptions. “The Ministry as a matter of urgency, is also engaging relevant stakeholders to determine the extent of the effect and assess the full impact of the US tariffs on the country’s economy,” the statement read.
The high-level meeting, scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, will involve the Ministers of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry, Finance, and Foreign Affairs, who will discuss the implications of the tariffs with the US Ambassador to Ghana.
The tariffs, announced by the US on April 2, 2025, under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 (IEEPA), cite economic and national security concerns linked to global trade deficits. While the 10 per cent levy applies broadly, certain products—such as copper, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and critical minerals—are exempt.
Ghana’s export sector, particularly under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), stands to be significantly affected. AGOA provides duty-free, quota-free access to the US market for key Ghanaian products like apparel, cocoa derivatives, shea butter, and horticultural goods. The government is exploring strategies to mitigate the immediate impact on these exports.
The Ministry emphasized its dedication to keeping the private sector informed, stating, “The Government is committed to ensuring that the private sector is well informed on the details of the imposition to avoid trade disruption as well as ensure predictability of investment decisions in the country.”
A 30-year-old pregnant woman, Susana Fosuaa Agyeman, has tragically died after an articulated truck with the registration number AS 636-14, carrying wood, struck and killed her.
The incident occurred around 4:30 PM on Friday, April 4, 2025, in Noberkow, in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region.
Her body was torn into pieces, with intestines, liver, and the unborn baby exposed, and blood oozing. Her remains were conveyed with a shovel and deposited at the morgue.
Williams Asare, an eyewitness at the scene, recounted, “We were seated at the Indomie vendor’s stall when we heard a loud noise. A speeding articulated truck came down the road and blew its horn once. At the same time, the pregnant woman got out of a taxi, and we shouted to her to move. She tried to step back but fell to the ground. The truck couldn’t stop and ran over her, causing a terrible accident.”
Her mother, Afia Fremah, medically unfit, is broken, shattered, and torn apart. She said, “The truck crushed onto my pregnant daughter, causing severe injuries. Her internal organs and unborn baby were exposed.
“Unfortunately, she died on the spot. She had gone to the market to sell goods when the accident occurred. The driver, responsible for her death, fled the scene. I hold him accountable and leave his actions to God.”
“My late daughter’s three young children are still in school, and their future is uncertain. As their grandmother, I’m struggling to care for them due to my poor health and financial difficulties. I’m humbly appealing to kind-hearted individuals and charitable organizations for support to help raise these children.”
Mr. Kofi Agyeman, Susuna’s father, is speechless. He also said, “We were deeply disturbed, stunned, and grief-stricken when we heard that our relative, a dedicated single mother who worked tirelessly to provide for her children, had been fatally struck by a vehicle.
“By the time we arrived at the scene, the police had already taken her body to the morgue. When we saw her lifeless body at the mortuary, it was a heart-wrenching moment that was hard to accept.”
Although the driver and his mate are on the run, Kwame Agala demands justice for his cousin.
“The owner and driver of the truck involved in the accident have not contacted us, and they appear to have fled the scene. It’s unclear whether they’ve surrendered to the police. We intend to take all necessary steps to seek justice for our deceased loved one and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”
The NDC has denied any involvement in drug trafficking and money laundering, while accusing the NPP of making baseless claims to destabilize the government.
The allegations of drug trafficking and money laundering in the country, raised by Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have sparked intense debate and speculation about the motivations behind these claims.
Residents of the Eastern Region witnessed a significant public health intervention as the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) safely disposed of approximately 2.5 tons of unwholesome products.
The exercise was conducted with the consent of product owners and under strict supervision.
The items destroyed included a wide range of products, drugs, cosmetics, canned foods, beverages, and medical equipment confiscated from information centres, supermarkets, over-the-counter medicine sellers, food retail joints, and pubs across the region.
The disposal exercise took place at the Akwadum dumping site near Koforidua, under tight security and expert monitoring to ensure public safety.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Anita Owusu-Kuffour, the Eastern Regional Head of the FDA, emphasized the Authority’s mandate to ensure the safety of all products under its regulatory scope. She noted that while the FDA actively monitors market products, manufacturers and vendors also have the responsibility to report unsafe or expired goods for safe disposal.
“The FDA seeks the services of the management of the landfill site and uses appropriate equipment to burn, bury, crush, or churn the non-conforming products to prevent the activities of scavengers,” she explained.
Specialized equipment, including excavators and bulldozers, was deployed during the destruction process to ensure thorough and environmentally safe disposal.
Owusu-Kuffour reiterated the FDA’s broader role in protecting public health by ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of human and veterinary medicines, vaccines, medical devices, and biological products. The Authority also regulates the safety of Ghana’s food supply, cosmetics, dietary supplements, radiation-emitting electronic products, and tobacco products.
The FDA’s latest operation underscores its ongoing commitment to ridding the market of harmful goods and ensuring consumer safety across the country.
Amid the ongoing legal disputes between Davido and Sophia Momodu over their daughter, Imade Adeleke, the young girl is capturing attention for an entirely different reason; her brilliance.
Imade, the daughter of Nigerian music superstar Davido and fashion entrepreneur Sophia Momodu, recently made headlines for an impressive academic achievement by winning a spelling bee competition at school.
Her proud mother shared the moment on her Snapchat, expressing her joy, “My spelling bee champion, I thank God for you every day. I was so super proud of you today, baby.”
Born in 2015, Imade has often found herself in the public eye due to her famous parents, with her father, Davido, being a global Afrobeats icon, and her mother, Sophia, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s fashion and social scenes.
While their co-parenting relationship has faced challenges, with Davido seeking joint custody and Sophia making serious allegations, Imade has consistently reminded us that childhood achievements deserve to be celebrated.
A recent poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that 57% of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters prefer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party in the 2028 presidential elections.
Dr Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, emerges as the clear front-runner should the party’s delegates select a flagbearer for the next election cycle.
According to the poll, the former vice president commands 48% of the overall vote in the prospective 2028 NPP leadership race.
His closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, garners 25%, while Dr Osei Adutwum follows with 13%. The remaining candidates collectively secure 14% of the votes.
Among NPP supporters specifically, Dr Bawumia’s lead is even more pronounced, with 57% backing him, compared to 22% for Kennedy Agyapong and 11% for Dr Osei Adutwum.
These findings highlight Dr Bawumia’s strong influence within the party and suggest a continuity of support beyond the 2024 elections.
His leadership as vice president and current flagbearer appears to have solidified his position as the preferred choice among party members looking ahead to the next election cycle.
The Director of the Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Dr Kwasi Aning has criticised the handling of recent drug trafficking allegations raised by Reverend Ntim Fordjour, urging Parliament to use its constitutional powers rather than holding press briefings.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Newsfile programme on Saturday, April 5, 2025, Dr Aning said Parliament possesses the authority, capacity, and mechanisms to scrutinise national security matters without resorting to public accusations based on suspicion.
He described such press conferences as premature and warned they could undermine public confidence in state institutions.
“The way forward… is about rebuilding trust, respect, and collegiality centred on what makes Ghana work best,” he told host Samson Lardy Anyenini. “This is a conversation that takes place in all parliamentary democracies, where the opposition may receive credible intelligence, but that intelligence is not first made public.”
Dr Aning outlined at least seven parliamentary procedures available to MPs for raising security-related concerns.
These include inviting ministers to answer questions on the floor, filing motions, delivering statements, reviewing quarterly expenditure reports, and visiting relevant institutions such as airports and security agencies.
He noted that Reverend Fordjour and his committee could have exercised these options rather than going public.
“Security oversight is serious business,” he said. “If the committee had concerns, they could have conducted in-camera hearings or used their powers to subpoena documents like flight manifests.”
Dr Aning emphasised that national security issues should be approached in a bipartisan manner.
“If resistance is met, then escalation may be necessary, but public accusations without evidence damage institutional trust,” he added.
He also referenced Ghana’s past involvement in the global narcotics trade, saying:
“About 13 percent of Europe’s cocaine once passed through Ghana. That is not something to take lightly, but allegations must be investigated properly and not made loosely.”
Dr Aning urged Parliament to approach its oversight responsibilities with gravity and professionalism.
“Parliament must act with authority, ability, and the right attitude,” he stated. “Oversight isn’t a child’s play.”
His comments follow recent claims by Reverend Ntim Fordjour, who alleged that suspicious flights linked to possible drug trafficking were landing at Ghana’s airports under the pretext of technical stops.
The government has since rejected the claims, describing them as baseless.
Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has clarified aircraft incidents at Kotoka Airport, dismisses drug trafficking claims, and shares video footage of Cavok flight inspection.
The Government of Ghana has strongly denied allegations of drug trafficking and money laundering linked to two aircraft that recently landed at Kotoka International Airport, providing technical explanations and releasing video evidence to support its stance.
President John Dramani Mahama has come under intense criticism from aggrieved Kusasi youth over the escalating tensions in the Bawku area.
According to the youth, they voted overwhelmingly for Mr Mahama in the belief that his administration would resolve the longstanding Bawku conflict— a promise he made during his campaign. However, they now accuse the President of abandoning their plight, with violence worsening and lives lost since he assumed office three months ago.
“Mr President, when we heard your promise to bring a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict, we were overwhelmed with hope and thought the NDC was our saviour. That is why Kusaug gave the NPP zero and voted massively for the NDC,” the group stated at a press briefing.
They added, “Mr President, you yourself acknowledged that the Overlord, Naana Asigri Azorka II, is the legitimate chief of Kusaug—and everyone knows that. So what has changed, Mr President? We never expected that it would take you so long to resolve the Bawku issue after we voted you into power.”
The group lamented the worsening security situation in the area, stating that rather than the promised peace, the region has seen increased bloodshed under President Mahama’s tenure.
“Your Excellency, did you know that since you assumed office as President, more than 18 people, including women and children, have been killed in this Bawku conflict? Is that what you intended, Mr President?”
Expressing deep disappointment, the youth accused President Mahama of using their support for political gain, criticising the tendency of politicians to exploit the Bawku conflict for votes without delivering genuine solutions.
“We now realise that politicians have been using the Bawku conflict for their own selfish political advantage. They keep deceiving us with false promises of peace just to win our votes.”
In a stark warning, the group hinted at possible electoral apathy in future polls.
“It will shock politicians to see empty ballot boxes in 2028 with not a single vote cast. We are tired of the lies and broken promises of politicians,” they concluded.
The sub-divisional chief of Mepe Gbavie-Dekume, Togbe Kwasi Amedor III, has expressed concern over a communicable skin disease outbreak affecting many children and adults in Avetakpo enclave, a farming community in Ghana’s Volta Region.
According to the chief, the infected residents are experiencing sleep deprivation, acute, and prolonged bodily pains.
Despite the severity of the outbreak, he indicated that affected individuals are unable to access medical treatment due to a lack of funds.
Based on the request by the Queen Mother of the area, Mama Aku Seme II, officials from the Ho East District Health Directorate of Ghana Health Service (GHS) visited the area, but a budget of GH₵ 6,642.50 was set for the community to pay before treatment could begin.
Unfortunately, the community couldn’t raise the funds.
“We are pleading with the government to come to our aid because we are not able to raise the total of GH₵ 6,642.50 estimated budget,” Chief Togbe Amedor III stated.
He disclised that the disease has spread to neighboring communities, with over 46 people affected so far.
Togbe Amedor III is calling for immediate government intervention to support the community with funds for mass medical treatment.
He emphasized the need for contingency measures to prevent infections and maintain residents’ well-being.
The chief expressed frustration that health officials didn’t provide the actual name of the disease or its source, leaving the community uncertain about the situation.
The lack of access to clean drinking water, with residents sharing sources with cattle and animals, may be contributing to the outbreak.
The chief’s appeal highlights the need for government support to address the skin disease outbreak in Mepe-Avetakpi.
With the situation becoming increasingly serious, urgent action is required to provide medical treatment and prevent further spread of the disease.

Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev John Ntim Fordjour
The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, was captured walking out of a live TV interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, April 6, 2025.
The MP, after the incident, took to social media to criticise the host of Newsfile, Samson Ayenini, for accusing him of lying about him walking out of the programme and also acting unprofessionally.
He said that the organisers of the programme were ‘fabricating messages’ against him.
“Samson Ayenini, your producer has denied sending you those ‘fabricated messages’. So inform Ghanaians where you manufactured those smear messages you derogatorily read on your show.
“Where lies professionalism and ethics in journalism? Samson, these are the messages viewers sent onto #Newsfile. Where from the deliberately fabricated smear messages you read? None can be found in your feed,“ he wrote on X on April 6, 2025.
Meanwhile, a video of the Assin South legislator walking off the programme has gone viral.
In the said video, an animated Rev Ntim Fordjour could be fuming and issuing threats.
“We are raising matters and you are (sic)… I’m waiting for them to commit themselves… when I release the bombshells (sics),” he fumed.
The host of the programme, Samson Ayenini, could also be heard saying, “Producers, why did you give him the messages? Shouldn’t you give them to me?”
One man is heard saying in the video, “Reverend this is a national issue, it is not a partisan issue.”
Background:
The MP for Assin South and the Minority’s Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee claimed at a press conference on April 1, 2025, that two flights, an air ambulance and a private jet, might have been involved in drug trafficking or money laundering.
He alleged that one of the aircraft, Air MED flight L823 AM, landed in Ghana on March 20 and stayed for five days without any record of transporting a patient.
These allegations led President John Mahama to order security agencies to “immediately and fully collaborate with the honourable Member of Parliament so he provides all necessary information to investigate the allegations and take all action necessary to expose any drug dealing.”
President Mahama also directed all security agencies to work with Rev Ntim Fordjour to investigate the drug trafficking and money laundering claims involving the two suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
He emphasised that Ghana has a zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking and will not allow the country to be used as a transit or final destination for illicit drugs.
As a result, all security agencies must act urgently to address the issue.
Ghanaian musician Olivetheboy has revealed that his father was unhappy with his decision to defer from university to pursue a music career.
According to his account, he was studying Business Administration at the University of Ghana, Legon, until he reached level 300, when he developed a strong interest in pursuing music.
The ‘GoodSin’ hitmaker explained that, in order to prevent his studies from being negatively affected, he made the bold decision to defer from the university. However, his father rejected the idea.
Speaking on The Delay Show on April 5, 2025, Olivetheboy stated that he disregarded his father’s advice to quit school and focus solely on music.
“I was at the University of Ghana Business School, studying Business Administration at level 300. I had to defer because there were many things I needed to do for my music career. To avoid disrupting my studies, I decided to defer and focus on other things. My father, who is a pastor, was not happy with my decision, but I didn’t care,” he told Deloris Frimpong Manso, also known as Delay.
The musician further shared that he intends to establish himself in the music industry before returning to complete his studies at the university.
“I will definitely go back to finish it. Probably within the next two years, I should be able to complete it. It’s because I want to solidify my brand before taking any break,” he added.

The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has announced plans to implement a 24-hour shift system in its terminal operations.
The introduction of this system, as highlighted in the March 2025 edition of TOR’s newsletter, aims to enhance and streamline the refinery’s operations.
This move is part of a broader strategy to maximize the utilization of TOR’s assets and improve overall efficiency.
It is believed that the systematic roll-out of the three-shift system will initially focus on the loading gantry, a key area of the Refinery Terminal Operations.
The loading gantry plays a critical role in the refinery’s operations, where refined petroleum products are loaded onto tankers for distribution.
With the implementation of the 24-hour system, TOR’s management hopes to significantly enhance the terminal’s operations, increase productivity, and ensure a continuous supply of refined products to meet domestic demand.
The 24-hour system will be divided into three shifts, allowing staff to work in rotations around the clock. This will not only help TOR to operate more efficiently but also create employment opportunities by increasing the number of shifts and staff required to manage the operations.
The shift system forms part of a broader initiative by the government of President John Dramani Mahama to foster a 24-hour economic system in Ghana.
The government aims to encourage businesses and state institutions across the country to adopt shift systems, thereby increasing productivity and contributing to a more dynamic economy.
The Tema Oil Refinery is Ghana’s premier oil refinery. With an ideal refinery configuration and sufficient storage tank capacity, it ranks among the best refineries in Africa and plays a critical role in supporting the country’s economic growth and investment initiatives.
However, despite its strategic importance, operational risks and managerial challenges have left the refinery in disarray in recent years.
Issues such as outdated infrastructure, inconsistent maintenance, and financial mismanagement have hindered its full potential and led to fluctuating performance, thereby impacting its ability to meet the increasing demand for refined products.

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare and Ga Mantse (in white)
Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has paid a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the king of the Ga Traditional Area.
The visit was an expression of appreciation for the king’s support following Asare’s recent call-up to the Black Stars.
In a Facebook post by Accra-based radio station Hot FM, Asare also sought the king’s blessings for the remainder of the football season.
Asare is currently the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper for the Black Stars, following an impressive debut with the national team in March 2024.
He kept two clean sheets in two matches against Chad and Madagascar during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, earning the trust of head coach Otto Addo, who has since named him the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.
After missing Hearts of Oak’s last two games, Asare has been named in the squad and is set to make his return in the upcoming match against Medeama on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

Marriage has long been regarded as one of the most significant life events, a cultural cornerstone that brings two individuals together. However, the notion that marriage is somehow a favour to women has been a point of contention for many.
While some see marriage as an opportunity for women to settle into a more stable and fulfilling life, others question whether it perpetuates outdated societal expectations.

President John Dramani Mahama has named Dr Alhassan Iddrisu as the Acting Government Statistician, pending consultations with the Council of State.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in-charge of Government Communications.
Dr Iddrisu is an economist with a background in economic strategy, research, and public sector leadership. He currently serves as the Director of the Economic Strategy and Research Division at the Ministry of Finance, where he oversees national macroeconomic analysis, forecasting, and coordination of both real and external sector assessments.
In his current role, he plays a critical part in producing the Ghana Macroeconomic Outlook Report and contributes significantly to the preparation of the National Budget and Economic Policy.
Beyond his core duties, Dr Iddrisu represents the Ministry on several governing boards, public councils, and inter-ministerial technical committees—platforms where his expertise has informed high-level decisions on economic governance and development strategies.
Over the years, he has held key leadership positions within the Ministry, including Director of the Economic Research and Forecasting Division (2013–2019), where he led national macroeconomic modelling and long-term projections. He also served as Acting Director of the Real Sector Division (2010–2013), leading research on sectoral growth and productivity.
Dr Iddrisu is also active in academia, serving as a part-time lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra. He has previously worked as a consultant for Oxfam GB and the World Bank.
His academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds a PhD in International Development Studies from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, Japan; a Master of Public Administration (Public and Economic Policy) from the London School of Economics; an MPhil in Economics; and a BA in Economics with French from the University of Ghana.
Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan Mensah, has called on the public to assist with information regarding the disappearance of several containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), which are currently at the center of an ongoing investigation.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, April 5, Gyan Mensah addressed growing public concern over the loss of the containers, which were designated for ECG’s operations.
His appeal follows the establishment of an investigative committee tasked with probing the circumstances surrounding the missing containers. The committee’s preliminary report has sparked serious questions about ECG’s management of its logistics chain.
According to the findings, out of 2,491 containers expected to be cleared and distributed, 1,357 remain unaccounted for. These containers are said to contain critical equipment intended for ECG’s nationwide operations, but were reportedly left at the port for an extended period without clearance.
“Currently, the security agency has not given us a report within the last three days. I am very hopeful that when we start the new week, we will take a brief, and they will also be able to relay it back to the media,” Gyan Mensah stated, indicating the ministry had not yet received updates from security agencies.
He confirmed that arrests had been made in connection with the case, and those involved were cooperating with investigators.
“The arrested people have been handed over to the police and are currently under investigation. They have also disclosed where they bought [the equipment] from, and we are investigating everyone,” he said.
The Deputy Minister also suggested that more individuals may be brought in to assist with the probe and encouraged public cooperation.
“Even as Manager Dubik says he wasn’t involved, I hope the security agency will also engage him, because once the report comes up, anyone who has information—we are calling on the public to come up with any information that you know about the issue to the media, to help with the investigation,” he added.
Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, recently embarked on a media tour during which she expressed criticisms against some key figures within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection claims she harbors deep resentment against individuals she accuses of sabotage, betrayal, and undermining both her political career and her family’s business interests.
In a hard-hitting statement, the Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has warned that Ghana risks being labelled a “Cocaine Coast” if allegations surrounding suspicious international flights are not addressed swiftly and thoroughly.
CDM cautioned that lax oversight or the appearance of it could result in increased scrutiny of Ghanaian travellers and exports, a potential drop in investor confidence, and reputational damage on the international stage.
“Ghana must not become a permissive corridor for narcotic trafficking,” the group asserted.
“We advise the government to act decisively to protect the nation’s integrity.”
The CDM reiterated its call for full disclosure from the Civil Aviation Authority and National Security Secretariat, and for Parliament to conduct a transparent inquiry with support from international partners if necessary.
Also, CDM criticised the conduct of Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, describing his recent derogatory remarks towards Rev. Ntim Fordjour as “a stain on the dignity of the presidency.”
Mr. Ofosu had referred to Rev. Fordjour as a “clown” in a social media post, a move CDM says violates both Parliamentary ethics and public expectations.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that the ministry allocates US$15 million annually to cover rent for Foreign Service Officers, a financial burden that has significantly strained the ministry’s budget over the years.
In addressing this challenge, Okudzeto Ablakwa announced a strategic plan to purchase two properties each year.
This initiative is aimed at reducing long-term rental costs while enhancing investments in the welfare of the ministry’s staff.
However, he raised concerns about the deteriorating state of several state-owned properties abroad, attributing the issue to poor maintenance practices.
These conditions, he noted, pose serious safety and welfare concerns for staff.
Ablakwa further disclosed that Foreign Service Officers stationed in challenging environments will be reassigned every two years, ensuring their well-being while maintaining efficiency.
During his engagement with staff at the Ghana High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, the Minister reassured them that their welfare remains a top priority.
He emphasised his commitment to addressing their concerns and improving their working conditions.
The Minister’s visit to Nigeria is part of a broader working tour of Benin, Nigeria, and Togo, an initiative aimed at fostering connections with Ghanaians living abroad.
First impressions are crucial in professional settings, and your attire plays a pivotal role in how your message is received during a presentation. Dressing appropriately not only boosts your confidence but also commands respect and attention from your audience. Here’s how to curate inspired official wear that aligns with your goals and leaves a lasting impact.
Embrace Tailored Precision
Ill-fitting clothing can distract from your message. Invest in well-tailored pieces—a structured blazer, fitted trousers, or a sleek dress—that enhance your silhouette without restricting movement. Tailoring conveys professionalism and attention to detail, signaling preparedness to your audience.
Leverage Colour Psychology
Colors evoke emotions. Opt for navy or charcoal to project trust and authority, while soft blues or greens can foster calm and approachability. Add pops of color with a burgundy tie or a pastel blouse to inject personality without overwhelming your audience. Avoid overly bright hues that may divert attention.
Prioritize Comfort and Fabric Quality
Choose breathable, wrinkle-resistant fabrics like wool blends, cotton, or technical fibers that maintain polish throughout your presentation. Comfort is key—stiff or itchy materials can hinder your focus. Ensure layers adapt to room temperatures (e.g., a lightweight blazer over a blouse).
Accessorize Strategically
Subtle accessories elevate your look. A classic watch, minimalist jewelry, or a leather portfolio adds sophistication. Avoid excessive embellishments that jingle or distract. Footwear should blend professionalism and comfort—opt for polished loafers, pumps, or ankle boots with cushioned soles.
Respect Cultural Contex
Research your audience’s norms. In conservative industries or regions, modest cuts and neutral tones are safest. For creative fields, experiment with bold patterns or statement pieces. Align your attire with organizational culture while retaining individuality.
Final Touch: Confidence
Your outfit should reflect your personal brand—whether minimalist, innovative, or traditional. Rehearse in your chosen attire to ensure ease of movement and eliminate last-minute adjustments.
Ultimately, inspired official wear is about balancing professionalism with authenticity. By thoughtfully selecting each element, you’ll project competence, connect with your audience, and deliver your message with unwavering confidence. Plan your ensemble in advance, and step into the spotlight ready to inspire.
The CEO of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Dr. Tony Aubynn, has reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that the people of Jomoro benefit significantly from the multi-billion-dollar petroleum hub project.
Responding to concerns about the lack of Nzema representation in PHDC’s new leadership, Dr. Aubynn dismissed suggestions that it reflects a diminished focus on the region.
He said he had received direct instructions from President Mahama to prioritize local participation across all levels of the Corporation’s operations.
Dr. Aubynn also assured that compensation for landowners affected by the project would be fair and transparent.
“President Mahama is determined to ensure that landowners are duly compensated so that the project’s foundation is secure. He is also committed to ensuring that the people of Jomoro start benefiting from this initiative immediately. One of his key directives is to begin training the youth in skills that will be essential when the hub becomes operational,” Dr. Aubynn stated.
He also called on chiefs and residents of the Western Region to disregard misconceptions that the administration would sideline their interests.
Dr. Aubynn stressed that under his leadership, PHDC is committed to engaging local stakeholders at every stage of the project’s implementation.
“The President wants us to empower the people of Jomoro. They should look forward to the immense benefits this hub will bring. This project will be a game-changer for Ghana—its impact will surpass that of mining, oil, and other sectors,” he added.
Dr. Aubynn expressed confidence in the project’s success, highlighting the strong backing from the government and the promising prospects it holds for both the Nzema people and the entire nation.
About PHDC
The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) is envisioned as a world-class integrated petroleum complex aimed at adding value across Africa’s upstream and downstream oil and gas value chains.
Spanning over 20,000 acres, the hub will feature a sophisticated network of onshore and offshore infrastructure, including refineries, petrochemical plants, and storage facilities, set to redefine Africa’s petrochemical industry.
The project is projected to create 780,000 jobs throughout its development and operational phases, significantly boosting Ghana’s economy. By 2030, it is expected to generate $1.56 billion in export tax revenue, contribute to an estimated 70% GDP growth, and drive large-scale industrialization across the country.

In a move reflecting heightened diplomatic tensions, the United States has imposed a sweeping ban on romantic and sexual relationships between its government personnel in China and Chinese nationals.
According to an AP report, the directive, introduced in January 2025 by then-U.S. Ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns, extends to American diplomats, their family members, and contractors with security clearances stationed across mainland China and Hong Kong.
It prohibits any intimate involvement with Chinese citizens — a stark departure from previous protocols.
Previously, U.S. staff were only required to report romantic contact with Chinese nationals or avoid relationships with specific individuals, such as embassy guards. Under the new guidelines, however, such associations are outright forbidden unless formally exempted.
“This is a Cold War-era level of restriction,” said one diplomatic analyst, commenting on the policy’s breadth. “American diplomats commonly date or even marry locals in host countries, but this new rule makes clear the U.S. sees China as a unique threat.”
The policy stems from growing concerns about espionage, particularly China’s alleged use of “honeypots” — romantic traps designed to extract intelligence from foreign officials. Peter Mattis, a former CIA analyst, said, “Chinese state security agents have been known to seduce American diplomats, and even ordinary Chinese citizens who date them could be vulnerable to coercion.”
According to reports, personnel with pre-existing relationships may apply for exemptions. If denied, they must either end the relationship or vacate their post. Violation of the policy would lead to immediate expulsion from China.
The rule applies to U.S. government personnel stationed at the embassy in Beijing and consulates in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenyang, Wuhan, and Hong Kong. It does not, however, affect diplomats based outside of China.
The Chinese government has remained tight-lipped about the move. When asked for comment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it would be “more appropriate to ask the U.S. about this question.”
Ironically, China already maintains stringent controls over the private lives of its own officials. Civil servants with foreign spouses are barred from senior appointments, while diplomats are not permitted to remain in any one country for extended periods. Chinese government staff are similarly forbidden from engaging in romantic relationships with foreign nationals.
The new U.S. directive comes amid rising tensions between Washington and Beijing over trade, technology, security, and global influence — a geopolitical rivalry that continues to reshape foreign policy on both sides.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Government Spokesperson, has once again addressed allegations surrounding recent aircraft landings at Kotoka International Airport, dismissing claims of drug trafficking and emphasising technical reasons for the incidents.
This follows the insistence of the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour that the flights allegedly carried drugs and cash.
In a Facebook post on Sunday April 6, Ofosu explained that the Air Med Aircraft landed due to damaged tyres on its landing gear.
Engineers were flown in on a separate aircraft to repair the damage, which accounted for the three-day stay at the airport.
“These pictures show engineers fixing damaged tyres on the landing gear of the Air Med Aircraft at the Kotoka International Airport. The damaged parts and engineers were brought in by a different aircraft, reason why it stayed here for three days. Don’t let anyone lie to you,” he stated.
He also provided clarity on the Cavok flight, noting that security officials inspected the aircraft upon arrival and confirmed its cargo consisted of oil drills and oil stored in jerrycans.
“This is actual footage of the inspection of the Cavok flight by security officials at the Kotoka International Airport on arrival which shows it carried a cargo of oil drills and oil in jerrycans. Don’t let anyone lie to you and shift the goal post when pressed for evidence,” Kwakye Ofosu added.
The spokesperson urged the public to disregard misinformation and assured transparency in addressing concerns related to the airport’s operations.

Koforidua, April 06, GNA – The Eastern Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has carried out a massive disposal of about 2.5 tonnage unwholesome products from some places with the consent of their owners.
The disposed products which included drugs, cosmetics, canned foods, drinks, and medical equipment, were seized from places such as the information centers, supermarkets, Over the counter, food retail joints, and pubs.
The items were safely disposed of at the Akwadum dumping site near Koforidua amid tight security and expert watch.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency Mrs. Anita Owusu-Kuffour, Eastern Regional Head of the Food and Drugs Authority, said that the authority was mandated to check on the safety of products under their regulatory control.
But the manufacturers and producers too had the right to report the unsafety status of their products to the FDA for proper disposal.
“The FDA seeks the services of the Management of the Landfill Site and uses the appropriate equipment to burn, bury, crash or churn for safer and successful disposal of the non-conforming products to prevent the activities of scavengers,” she said.
The equipment used for the destruction exercise included an excavator and bulldozers.
The FDA protects public health by assuring the safety, effectiveness, and security of human and veterinary drugs, vaccines and other biological products for human use, and medical devices.
It is also responsible for the safety and security of Ghana’s food supply, cosmetics, dietary supplements, radiation-emitting electronic products, and regulating tobacco products.
The Public Relations Officer of Burniton Music Group, Vida Adutwumwaa, has stated that Reggae Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy will win the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year accolade.
She explained that the artiste released several hit songs and performed at various concerts, including Tidal Rave, the 3FM All White Party, and other reputable events across the nation.
The entertainment pundit also noted that the BHIM concert, which featured high-profile artistes like Davido and Spice, helped project Ghanaian music and bridge the gap with the international music industry.
“Apart from King Promise, Stonebwoy has the most category nominations. He has eight nominations, with multiple nominations in some categories. We have a host of shows lined up on our record, including the African Games and other events across the country. Stonebwoy has performed live in Denkyira, at the 3FM All White Party, Tidal Rave, and the BHIM Festival, which featured Davido, Spice, and other top-class international artists.”
“We will not succumb to pressure; we are very optimistic about breaking and setting that record – winning Artiste of the Year back-to-back,” she said while speaking on United Showbiz aired on UTV on April 5, 2025.
Adutwumwaa also shut down claims that musicians who have already won awards should make way for up-and-coming artistes, arguing that such views undermine the spirit of consistency.
“The assertion that musicians who have won awards should allow others to win is something that needs to stop, as it undermines the spirit of consistency,” she added.
The TGMA main awards event is scheduled to take place on May 3, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The awards night will be preceded by a pre-party on May 2, 2025, bringing together nominees and industry stakeholders for networking and discussions.
The nominees’ jam, commonly referred to as the TGMA Xperience, was held on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

L-R: President Mahama, Sammy Gyamfi, Ofosu Kwakye and Rev Fordjour
The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Interior and Defence Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has come under scrutiny following his allegations of drug trafficking in the country.
The Assin South MP had earlier demanded a security briefing regarding two aircraft, AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B, which he alleged carried cocaine and cash into the country.
This article details how some prominent government figures responded to the allegations:
President John Dramani Mahama
President Mahama, upon hearing the allegations, ordered security agencies to collaborate with the MP to ascertain the facts in the matter.
Responding to the allegations in a social media post on April 1, 2025, President Mahama stated:
“My attention has been drawn to allegations made at a press conference by Rev Fordjour regarding two suspicious flights arriving at Kotoka International Airport, suspected to be involved in drug trafficking and money laundering. The government takes all allegations seriously.
“To ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, I have directed all relevant investigative agencies – including the Narcotics Control Commission, the Police CID, the National Investigations Bureau, and the National Security Coordinator – to immediately and fully collaborate with the MP. He must provide all necessary information to facilitate the investigation and take all necessary actions to expose any drug-related activities.”
Felix Kwakye Ofosu
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, warned that Rev Fordjour would be arrested if he did not accept an invitation from the NIB to conduct an investigation into the claims of suspicious flights in Ghana.
He refuted the MP’s assertion that he was never invited during an appearance on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Friday, April 4, 2025.
“If he says he was not invited, it is not true. The NIB has written to the Speaker and asked for his release for investigation. He will definitely go. If he doesn’t, they will arrest him, and when he does, he should present the stories he is telling.
“The last thing an MP should be doing is peddling such childish lies. They are not just lies; they are childish. How do you claim such things without providing a shred of evidence?” he questioned.
Sammy Gyamfi
The Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Sammy Gyamfi, accused Rev Fordjour of lying about the drug trafficking claims and challenged him to provide proof or face prosecution.
“You don’t hold a press conference based on suspicion. That is reckless and irresponsible. You exercise oversight as an MP based on facts. You alleged that an aircraft arrived in Ghana and was used to smuggle illicit substances like cocaine and cash related to money laundering, yet you didn’t share any intelligence with the security agencies.
“He is lying because his press conference did not call on state agencies to investigate the case. Reverend, why do you lie like that? I will call for your arrest and prosecution if you don’t prove your claims,” he said during the Newsfile program aired on JoyNews on April 5, 2025.
Edward Omane Boamah
The Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, condemned the Assin South MP, accusing him of spreading misinformation about the alleged suspicious aircraft landing at Kotoka International Airport.
In a Facebook post on Friday, April 4, 2025, Dr Boamah called on Rev Fordjour to “repent,” describing his claims as baseless and politically motivated.
“Rev Ntim Fordjour must desist from reckless allegations founded on untruths. You know you’ve lied! You also know vivid video evidence has exposed your lies about the said aircraft. Ntim Fordjour, repent!” he wrote.
The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) recorded its highest monthly revenue in the last three years following major changes implemented by the new management.
According to the TOR Guide, the refinery’s monthly newsletter, TOR generated $2.5 million in revenue in March, marking its highest figure in the last three years.
By generating $2.5 million, TOR exceeded its revenue target for the month of March by an impressive 125%.
This achievement, according to TOR, was made possible by the sacrifice and hard work of the staff, who have shown unwavering commitment to the strategies and plans being implemented by the new management, led by Dr. Yusif Sulemana.
Special credit was also given to the Commerce, Maintenance, Finance, and Safety divisions for their crucial roles in attaining this remarkable feat.
This positive news signals TOR’s preparedness to embrace the reset agenda being pursued by the government of President John Dramani Mahama.
It is expected that TOR will witness a dramatic turnaround in its fortunes as the refinery is set to embark on the much-discussed 24-hour shift system within the loading gantry.
Issues such as outdated infrastructure, inconsistent maintenance, and financial mismanagement have hindered its full potential and led to fluctuating performance and have impacted its ability to meet the increasing demand for refined products.

I Will Expose NPP With The Receipts If They Fail To Tell Us The Truth – Saddick Adams speaks
News Hub Creator1h
Prominent Ghanaian journalist Saddick Adams has weighed in on the ongoing controversy surrounding the implementation of the betting tax in Ghana. The issue has sparked heated debate over whether the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was responsible for introducing the tax.
During the presentation of the 2025 budget by Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, it was announced that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government intends to abolish the betting tax that had been put in place by the previous administration.
In response, former Finance Minister Hon. Amin Adams, who served under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, denied that the NPP government had implemented any such tax. However, Saddick Adams challenged that claim during an appearance on Angel TV on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
Adams revealed that he had received numerous receipts from individuals across Ghana showing that their betting earnings had been taxed. He explained that he had sparked the conversation on his X (formerly Twitter) account, prompting many users to share evidence supporting the claim that the NPP government did, in fact, enforce the betting tax.
“I have collected receipts from various people proving that the NPP government imposed a tax on betting earnings,” Adams said. “If the NPP administration did not implement this policy, they should be honest with Ghanaians and say so. But the evidence clearly shows that individuals who placed bets had their winnings taxed.”
His remarks have added fuel to the debate as more Ghanaians demand clarity on the origin and enforcement of the controversial betting tax.
The Commerce Division of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Ltd. has kicked off 2025 with exceeding its February revenue target.
The division generated an USD 2,919,515.27—more than double the initial target of USD 1,166,820.00—marking the highest monthly revenue in the refinery’s last three years
This extraordinary milestone, according to internal sources, is the result of strategic planning, increased inflows, and improved product storage capabilities.
The leadership attributes the success to the unwavering dedication of the Commerce, Maintenance, Finance, and Safety teams, who have remained focused on optimizing TOR’s assets and maximising profit opportunities.
Officials say the achievement not only strengthens TOR’s financial standing but also sets a new benchmark for performance in the months ahead.
The Commerce Division is now poised to build on this momentum to sustain growth and drive future successes in the refinery’s terminal business.
Management has lauded the efforts of all departments involved and emphasized that this milestone underscores TOR’s long-term commitment to operational excellence and financial resilience.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has criticised the government for allegedly intimidating the minority over their concerns regarding the unexplained presence of two foreign aircraft in Ghana—AirMed flight N823AM and the Cavok Air Antonov An-12B.
The party has demanded transparency and accountability, calling for a satisfactory explanation of the aircrafts’ missions in the country.
In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah on April 6, the NPP expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s response, led by Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
The party described the explanation as inadequate and defensive, which they believe has only deepened public suspicion.
The NPP highlighted the unusual circumstances surrounding the aircraft, noting that both reportedly developed faults while in Ghana.
They argued that the government’s reluctance to provide clarity reinforces suspicions of a contrived narrative.
The NPP also pointed to the involvement of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, which has urged the Ghanaian government to investigate the flights’ missions.
The party called for a detailed and professional response from the appropriate security agencies regarding the cargo and purpose of the aircraft.
Additionally, the NPP demanded updates on two major drug trafficking cases—the $350 million cocaine bust in Cape Coast and the $150 million cocaine seizure in Sekondi, allegedly linked to a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The party criticised the government’s silence on these cases, stating that it undermines public trust, particularly given the alleged involvement of a senior NDC member.
The statement cautioned the government against trivialising issues related to drug trafficking and money laundering, emphasizing that these are matters of international interest.
The NPP warned that Ghana’s credibility and compliance with international obligations are at stake, and the perception of complicity or institutional failure could have serious consequences.
The NPP reaffirmed its commitment to holding the government accountable, asserting that Ghana deserves better leadership and transparency in addressing these critical issues.
The Ministers of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry, Finance, and Foreign Affairs are set to engage the United States Ambassador to Ghana on Monday, April 7, 2025.
This high-level meeting comes in response to the recent imposition of a 10% universal tariff by the United States on imports from Ghana and other countries.
The tariffs, which took effect on April 5, 2025, have sparked concerns over potential disruptions to trade and investments in Ghana. The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry has assured the Ghanaian private sector, particularly major exporters and investors, of the government’s commitment to resolving the issue. Efforts are underway to mitigate the impact of the tariffs and ensure stability in trade relations.
According to the ministry, the government is also consulting with relevant stakeholders to assess the economic implications of the tariffs. Various strategies are being explored to minimize the immediate effects on Ghana’s export market, which heavily relies on duty-free and quota-free access to the US under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
Notably, the US Executive Order imposing the tariffs cites economic and national security concerns related to global trade deficits. While the tariffs broadly affect imports, certain products, including copper, pharmaceuticals, and critical minerals, are exempt.
The Ghanaian government has emphasized its commitment to keeping the private sector informed about the situation.
The upcoming engagement with the US Ambassador reflects the government’s proactive stance in addressing this critical issue to safeguard Ghana’s trade and economic interests.

President John Dramani Mahama has come under sharp criticism from aggrieved Kusasi youth over the worsening security situation in the Bawku area.
According to the youth, they voted overwhelmingly for Mr Mahama based on his campaign promise to resolve the longstanding Bawku conflict.
However, they now accuse the President of neglecting their plight, noting that violence in the area has escalated, with multiple fatalities recorded since he assumed office three months ago.
“Mr President, when we heard your promise to bring a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict, we were filled with hope and believed the NDC would be our saviour. That is why Kusaug gave the NPP zero votes and supported the NDC massively,” the group said during a press briefing.
They continued, “Mr President, you openly acknowledged that the Overlord, Naana Asigri Azorka II, is the legitimate chief of Kusaug — and that is common knowledge. So, what has changed? We did not expect it would take this long to address the Bawku issue after we voted you into power.”
The group expressed frustration that instead of peace, the region has experienced an upsurge in violence, with reports indicating that over 18 people — including women and children — have lost their lives since President Mahama assumed office.
“Your Excellency, are you aware that more than 18 lives have been lost to this conflict since you became President? Is that the outcome you envisioned, Mr President?” they asked.
The youth also voiced disappointment over what they described as political exploitation of the conflict, accusing the President of using them for electoral gain without fulfilling his promises.
“We have now come to the painful realisation that politicians have been using the Bawku conflict for their own selfish political interests. They continue to deceive us with empty promises of peace simply to win votes.”
Issuing a stern warning ahead of the next general elections, the group suggested that political parties should expect voter apathy if tangible progress is not made.
“It will come as a surprise to politicians when they see empty ballot boxes in 2028, with not a single vote cast. We are tired of the lies and broken promises,” they concluded.

Jerrycans, car tyres and other equipments spotted in the Cavok filght
The Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has shared video footage of the inspection conducted on an aircraft accused of carrying illicit substances upon its arrival in Ghana.
According to him, a Cavok flight arrived at Kotoka International Airport carrying equipment. The footage shows a cargo of oil drills and oil jerrycans imported into the country for specific purposes.
The minister emphasised that allegations of the flight carrying illicit drugs and cash for money laundering are untrue and should be disregarded by the public.
“This is actual footage of the inspection of the Cavok flight by security officials at Kotoka International Airport upon arrival, showing it carried a cargo of oil drills and oil in jerrycans. Don’t let anyone deceive you or shift the goalposts when pressed for evidence,” he wrote on X, alongside the video footage released on April 6, 2025.
This development follows Assin South Member of Parliament Reverend John Ntim Fordjour’s demand for a security briefing regarding two aircraft, AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B, which he alleged carried cocaine and cash into the country.
Rev Fordjour has yet to provide public evidence substantiating his claims but promised to do so when meeting security agencies.
However, prominent government figures have warned the MP that he may face prosecution if he does not provide evidence supporting his claims of drug trafficking.

Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare
The government, through the ministries of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry, Finance, and Foreign Affairs, will hold talks with the US Ambassador to Ghana on Monday, April 7, 2025, regarding the recent 10% tariff restriction imposed on Ghana by the US government.
The US announced on April 2, 2025, that a 10% tariff would be applied universally on imports from all nations, including Ghana, effective April 5, 2025.
However, goods already in transit before the effective date will be exempt.
In addition to the universal tariffs, reciprocal tariffs ranging from 11% to 50% will take effect on April 9, 2025, targeting over 50 countries.
In a statement issued on Saturday, April 5, 2025, and sighted by GhanaWeb Business, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the recently imposed 10% universal tariffs by the US on imports from Ghana and other countries, assuring the private sector, especially exporters and investors, of the government’s swift response to the situation.
“The Ministry, as a matter of urgency, is also engaging relevant stakeholders to determine the extent of the effect and assess the full impact of the US tariffs on the country’s economy. Furthermore, various strategies are under consideration to mitigate the immediate impact on Ghana’s trade,” the statement said.
Under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a preferential trade agreement between the United States and eligible African nations like Ghana, most Ghanaian exports have traditionally enjoyed duty-free, quota-free access to the US market.
However, on April 2, 2025, the United States announced a significant shift in trade policy, imposing a universal 10% tariff on imports from all countries, including Ghana, effective April 5, 2025. Notably, goods already in transit before the tariff’s imposition will be exempt from these new charges.
For Ghana, the US remains a key market for critical exports such as apparel, cocoa derivatives, gold jewelry, shea butter, and horticultural products like yams, fruits, vegetables, and cashews.
“With these exports at stake, the government is committed to keeping the private sector informed and prepared, ensuring there are no disruptions to trade and that investment in Ghana continues with predictability and confidence,” the Ministry said.

Ghana’s U-15 national team clinched the 2025 Mondialito Promise tournament title with a convincing 4-1 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the final.
After securing two solid wins on the opening day, Coach Yaw Preko’s boys maintained their dominance on Day Two, defeating Maccabi Petah Tikva 2-0 and thrashing Hapoel Tel Aviv 4-0 to seal a spot in the final.
In a rematch of the tournament opener, Ghana once again faced Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Goals from Robinho Gavi, James Ofori, Ebenezer Adjei and Abdulai Aziz Issah gave Ghana a comfortable lead before Maccabi pulled one back in the final minute.
Winger John Andor was named Best Player of the tournament, capping off a brilliant campaign for the young Ghanaians.
Social media went frenzy yesterday after Manasseh Azure posted that Sekondi/Takoradi is the music city of Ghana and that Volta is the music region of Ghana.
Many people saw no reason the Volta should be mentioned as a music powerhouse in the country. Some comments just named Edem and wondered why a region without big names in the contemporary entertainment industry should be given that accolade.
“Is it by chance that the composers of Ghana’s national anthem and the “unofficial” national anthem, “Yɛn Ara Asase Ni,” were both from the Volta Region? (Philip Gbeho, composer of the national anthem, was from Keta; while Dr. Ephraim Amu, who composed Yɛn Ara Asase Ni,” hailed from Peki.)” he asked
Is it accidental that on national occasions, some of the most popular patriotic songs played by the military and police bands are songs from the Volta Region?
How about the fact that Ewe songs, as casual as a lullaby, are international classics in the music world? Heard about “Tutu Gbovi” and “Toboli”?
In modern choral and church music, there is a rhythm called “Agbadza,” which does not necessarily need Agbada drums.
And borborbor remains the most popular traditional Ghanaian music and dance that transcends regional and ethnic barriers and the borders of our country.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Volta Region has a very rich musical tradition. I grew up in the Volta Region, and I can attest to this.
Besides the great gospel musical compositions from that region, I enjoy traditional Volta music such as borborbor, agbadza and zigi. Aside from their great rhythms, the depth of compositions in Ewe folk music is breathtaking.
Why, then, is Ewe or Volta music not as popular in the entertainment industry as music in, say, Akan? It is more of an issue of economics and marketing. When I produced a documentary on borborbor music about a decade ago, Volta-based musicians such as Joseph Akpalu and Israel Maweta told me they struggled to get producers for their music because of the language barrier. Ewe is not as widely spoken as Akan.
The richness of Volta’s musical tradition transcends known and contemporary big names like Celestine Donkor Music), Denning Edem Hotor (Edem), Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda (Mzvee), and Livingstone Etse Satekla (Stonebwoy).
In an unexpected twist to the ongoing scandal, Centra for Democratic Movement(CDM) has criticised the conduct of Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, describing his recent derogatory remarks towards Rev. Ntim Fordjour, New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region as “a stain on the dignity of the presidency.”
Max TV has apologised to Ghanaian actress and singer Cina Soul for disparaging comments made about her craft during the Max Morning Show on March 31, 2025.
The remarks, made by guest actor Big Akwes and echoed by the show’s entertainment segment host, followed the airing of a video excerpt from Cina Soul’s recently released album.
In an official statement, Ricky K.A. Anokye, General Manager of IMax Media Group, expressed the station’s deep regret for the incident, acknowledging the distress caused by the comments.
“Max TV unequivocally regrets the incident and apologizes immensely. This does not reflect our values or standards as a station,” the statement read.
The station emphasised its commitment to addressing the situation and restoring its reputation.
“Necessary steps have been taken to remedy the situation,” the statement assured.
Max TV also acknowledged the mixed reactions from the public and took full responsibility for fostering a platform of respect and positivity.
“To Cina Soul, we extend our heartfelt apologies and admiration for your talent and contributions to Ghana’s music industry. We are committed to making amends and endeavor to highlight your works in a manner that celebrates your artistry positively.”
The station expressed gratitude for public feedback and pledged to maintain higher standards in the future.
This apology follows growing public concern about the incident and reflects Max TV’s efforts to uphold professionalism and support for the creative arts.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs has stated that the growth of every Ghanaian-owned business remains paramount to the Mahama administration.
Speaking to Nigerians, Ghanaians, and other nationals in Abuja, Nigeria, the Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, stated that Ghanaian—and by extension, African—businesses need to benefit from the support of their respective governments.
“No business will be shut down under the Mahama-led administration,” he stated emphatically.
According to the Minister, political inclination or ideological beliefs do not matter.
“When we talk about investors, we should not always be looking outside the continent. We can have African investors, and we can open our countries to each other. Nigerians can come into Ghana, invest, create jobs, transform our country, and it should be possible for Ghanaians to come into Nigeria, create jobs, and transform the landscape.”
He further added, “Interestingly, we’re speaking at a time we mark 50 years of ECOWAS. Many have said the dream of sub-regional integration has not yet been achieved as envisioned by our founding fathers.”
“The opportunity we create for our people may be the real progress Africa needs,” he said.
The Minister was at the River Park Estate, owned by Ghanaian business mogul Sam Jonah.
The estate spans over 5,000 hectares of land, which Sam Jonah received at the invitation of the then President of Nigeria in 1997.
According to the CEO of the estate, Kojo Mensah Ansah, the company has faced significant struggles in Nigeria. He, however, applauded the Minister for visiting to show support.

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has assured the Ghana Union of Traders Association, GUTA, of its commitment to sustaining a stable macroeconomic environment despite the challenges facing the economy.
This was said at a crucial meeting with the Union at the Bank Square to deliberate on matters of mutual interest and discuss the impact of recent monetary policy decisions on businesses.
The engagement forms part of the central bank’s broader stakeholder outreach efforts following its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meetings.
Acknowledging concerns raised by the business community, over the effects of rising borrowing costs and broader economic challenges, officials of the Central Bank noted that inflationary pressures both locally and globally have necessitated a proactive policy stance.
Recent adjustments to the policy rate, it explained, were based on rigorous analysis of inflation trends, exchange rate developments, and global financial conditions.
While conceding that higher interest rates could pose short-term difficulties for businesses, the Bank maintained that such measures are essential to anchor inflation expectations and protect the purchasing power of households and enterprises over the long term.
During the meeting, the BoG made a special presentation to GUTA’s executive team, emphasizing that price stability is vital to restoring investor confidence and maintaining economic equilibrium. It also stressed that collaboration with key business stakeholders remains central to shaping effective monetary policy.
In a notable move to promote transparency and accountability, the BoG announced that, for the first time since the inception of its inflation-targeting monetary policy framework, it had published the individual voting decisions of MPC members. This step, the Bank said, aligns with international best practices and is aimed at strengthening public confidence in the policy-making process.
The meeting was attended by key officials of the Bank including Dr. Philip Abradu-Otoo, Director of Research; Mr. Bernard Otabil, Director of Communications; Mr. Ismail Adam, Acting Head of the Banking Supervision Department; and Mr. Ernest Nii Sowah Ahulu, Officer-in-Charge of the Financial Markets Department.
GUTA was represented by its President, Dr. Joseph Obeng, along with key executives.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Talensi district of the Upper East Region has debunked assertions that the fire outbreak at their party office was connected to a protest relating to the DCE nomination.
Speaking to Citi News in an interview on Sunday April 6, the Talensi constituency NDC communication officer, Michael Nangena, stated that the party has called for an investigation into the fire outbreak because there’s no indication that the fire at the party office was caused by any protestor.
On 5th April 2025, the office of the NDC in the Talensi constituency caught fire at around 2 a.m. Residents in the area rushed to the scene, and with assistance from the Ghana National Fire Service, the fire was brought under control. This was widely reported as a protest by party members over the DCE nomination.
However, the NDC leadership in the area has indicated it is not related to the DCE nomination.
“This cannot represent the facts on the ground because I personally picked the release from the regional communications bureau’s platform onto the constituency platform where almost every polling station is represented. From last night to now, it has been wins or congratulations to the honourable John on the nomination and appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic, for the nomination.
“So we have no indication whatsoever that people are protesting his nomination to the extent that they have burnt the party office to register their displeasure. It is not true. As we speak, I was there by 6 a.m., and when I got there, I had only two of our guys who were also there to see for themselves what was going on. People who are protesting will not go and burn down a party office under the cover of darkness.
“At least you protest for others to know that you, so and so, are dissatisfied with the decision so made. But to the extent that this event took place at 2:30 a.m. thereabout cannot be attributed to the nomination of our chairman,” he stated.
Ghanaian legal practitioner and media personality, Maurice Ampaw, has broken his silence over viral rumours claiming he had passed away.
The false news spread across social media on Friday evening, sparking panic and concern among fans and followers.
However, in an interview on Adom FM’s Entertainment Hall hosted by Mike Two, the outspoken lawyer dismissed the claims with confidence and spiritual insight.
“I’m not dead,” he said firmly. “As a legal prophet, I am aware of my impending demise and i know when i will die but before I leave this world, I will say goodbye to Ghanaians.”
Maurice Ampaw went on to explain that he has a covenant with God, which gives him insight into the timing of his own death.
“When the time is near, I will announce it. I will use one week to say goodbye, and when it finally happens, people will say, ‘he even predicted his own death.’”
He added that he lives with purpose, knowing that his work is part of a divine assignment.
According to him, people often misunderstand him because they don’t recognize his calling.
“Everyone has their brand and what it stands for. Some people won’t like what you’re doing, simply because they don’t understand your calling,” he explained.
“I am working for God, and when I am done, it is only God who can judge me,” he added. “What I am doing is a calling. That’s all.”
The lawyer concluded the interview by reassuring Ghanaians that he remains active and will continue to appear on air and in public life.
“I am here. I am not going anywhere yet. When it’s time, you will all know.”
Maurice Ampaw is widely known for his bold personality and often controversial commentary on legal and national issues.
Despite the swirling rumours, he remains unfazed and as outspoken as ever.
The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry says various strategies are under consideration to mitigate the immediate impact of newly imposed U.S. tariffs on Ghana’s trade and exports.
In a statement, the Ministry assured the Ghanaian private sector, particularly exporters and investors, of government’s readiness to engage the U.S. to avoid disruptions to trade and investment.
The Ministry added that stakeholders are currently being engaged to assess the full economic impact of the tariffs while government explores practical measures to protect Ghanaian interests.
This comes after the United States announced a 10% universal tariff on all imports, including those from Ghana, effective April 5, 2025.
Under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), Ghanaian products previously enjoyed duty-free access to the U.S. market.
However, the new tariff policy—announced under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA)—threatens to undermine that advantage.
The Ministry noted that while some products, including pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, energy products, and certain minerals, are exempt, many of Ghana’s priority exports such as apparel, cocoa derivatives, gold jewellery, shea butter, cashew, yam, and horticultural products could be affected.
As an immediate step, a high-level government delegation comprising the Ministers for Trade, Finance, and Foreign Affairs will meet with the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana on April 7 to begin diplomatic engagements.
Government has reaffirmed its commitment to keeping the private sector informed to ensure predictability in trade and investment decisions.
