His appointment was announced through a Facebook post by the GES on Monday, January 27.

Professor Davis brings to the role a wealth of academic expertise and professional experience.

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mathematics Education from Monash University in Australia.

His impressive academic career includes serving as a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow, a prestigious recognition awarded to scholars who contribute to the advancement of education and research in Africa.

He is also a prominent member of the Ghana Mathematics Association, an organisation dedicated to promoting excellence in mathematics education across Ghana.

In addition to his academic credentials, Professor Davis has held leadership roles in education research.

Professor Davis succeeds Dr. Eric Nkansah, who was appointed as Director-General of GES on October 19, 2022, by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Dr. Nkansah’s tenure, though relatively brief, was marked by efforts to address key challenges within the education sector, including teacher welfare, curriculum development, and infrastructure improvements.

As the new Director-General, Professor Davis is expected to build on the foundations laid by his predecessor while introducing his vision and strategies to further enhance Ghana’s educational landscape.

Ghanaians believe they are not taxed fairly – Isaac Adongo

Isaac Adongo is the MP for Bolgatanga Central Isaac Adongo is the MP for Bolgatanga Central

Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central and Chairman of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Isaac Adongo, has expressed concern over the widespread public mistrust in Ghana’s tax system, stating that many citizens feel the system is unfair and does not serve their interests.

Speaking on GHOne TV following recent initiatives announced by President John Dramani Mahama, Adongo emphasised that public perception plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of tax collection.

According to him, Ghanaians are more likely to resist taxation when they believe the process is inequitable or that public funds are being mismanaged.

“Confidence and trust are very key in the management of an economy. One of the challenges Ghanaians face when it comes to paying taxes is that they don’t believe they are being taxed fairly, nor do they trust that their money will be spent wisely,” he stated.

Adongo praised the shift in fiscal priorities seen in the current budget, noting that, for the first time in many years, the focus appears to be on taxing the wealthy to support the vulnerable.

“There has been a paradigm shift where, in this budget, the Minister for Finance, together with the Cabinet of Ghana, made a clear decision to take more from the rich to fund programs that benefit the poor and the implications are already visible,” he explained.

He also referenced the launch of two major social programs spearheaded by the President; MahamaCares, a healthcare trust fund aimed at supporting Ghanaians battling chronic illnesses, and the National Apprenticeship Programme, which targets over 10,000 unemployed youth.

“Recently, His Excellency launched a program to support over 10,000 unemployed Ghanaian youth through the National Apprenticeship Programme. He’s thinking about healthcare, and also about giving back to the people of Ghana who pay taxes but find themselves in difficult health situations. That’s MahamaCares,” he pointed out.

Who Is Mary Malone, a.k.a Aqua from ‘Missing You’ on Netflix?

0

For several years, Netflix has welcomed the new year with a propulsive thriller courtesy of bestselling author Harlan Coben. After last year’s offering, Fool Me Once, became one of Netflix’s most-watched shows of 2024, the streaming giant is back with Missing You, a gripping crime series about a detective whose world is shifted when she finds her ex-fiancé on a dating app. Based on Coben’s 2014 novel of the same name, the mystery thriller follows DI Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar) as she investigates both the re-appearance of her ex and the truth behind her father’s mysterious death 11 years ago.

The new series features a talented cast of familiar faces, including Eleazar, Jessica Plummer, Richard Armitage, and Ashley Walters. In the days since Missing You‘s premiere, viewers have been particularly raving about rising actress Mary Malone for her heartbreaking performance as Aqua, one of Kat’s best friends with a devastating secret. Read on to learn more about the breakout star.

Mary Malone is a trans actress who hails from Suffolk, England.

Mary Malone is a television and theater actress in her mid-20s, who has mostly appeared in plays and musicals in the U.K. Per her Spotlight profile, she graduated from the University of Essex in 2020 and began acting in short films that year, making her TV debut in an episode of STARZ’s The Girlfriend Experience. Some of her standout theater productions include a 2022 West End production of As You Like It, the award-winning play The Prince, and the cult-favorite musical Fangirls.

Before Missing You, Malone appeared in Doctor Who‘s 2023 Christmas special as Trudy, a friend and bandmate of Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson). Missing You is Malone’s first major TV role.

Her artistic background includes singing, dancing, piano, and painting.

In addition to acting, Malone mentions several performing arts among her skills, from singing and dancing (per her musical theater background) to piano and puppetry. She has also shared her affinity for fine art on Instagram, including some images of her previous work.

She describes her character Aqua as an integral part of the mystery of ‘Missing You.’

Speaking to PinkNews, Malone described her Missing You character Aqua as a “Gemini witchy queen” who has always been there for her best friend Kat, and vice versa. She added that Aqua is an integral part of the season’s mystery.

“She is intertwined in the complex spider web that is Missing You,” Malone said of Aqua. “She’s woven in. She’s not this trans side character. She’s an essential part of the narrative. I got to do some stunts, which is really exciting, really fun, something I’ve not done before, and I really enjoyed it.”

Stacey (Jessica Plummer) and Aqua (Mary Malone) in Missing You.

Malone also told PinkNews that she was able to flesh out her character for the show and add a “rich complexity,” after Aqua received less nuanced treatment in the source novel.

“I think I’ve added myself to it, and been able to really ground her in a real-life trans human,” she said.
“[Aqua’s] not all good, and she’s not all bad, and I think she’s a real human with a lot going on, which is really a joy to play…The narrative really does not surround her gender identity, so I think that’s great representation, and accurate representation that we actually are just living our lives.”

Her dream role is a bit surprising.

In an interview with Country & Town House, Malone opened up about the roles she’s wishing for most in the future. She revealed that she’d most love to work with her idol, filmmaker/author Miranda July, and that her ultimate dream role is surprisingly aquatic.

“I know it’s mad but I always dreamed of playing a mermaid,” she told the outlet. “I love films like Splash, Lady in the Water, The Lure. I’ve been drawn to mermaids and the ocean since I was little. So I’m waiting to be AV-checked for a badass queer mermaid film…anytime now.”

‘I reject the assertion that I am treating MPs like students’

0

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has dismissed accusations that he is treating Members of Parliament (MPs) like students, following his decision to suspend four MPs due to misconduct during the vetting of some ministerial nominees, on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, Bagbin emphasised the importance of maintaining discipline within Parliament.

He rejected claims that his actions resembled those of a headmaster and pointed out the necessity of a structured environment in Parliament.

“Some members of the House have referred to me as a headmaster, treating Honourable Members like students. I reject that assertion. Where there are students, there must be a headmaster. If you don’t have a headmaster, you know what is going to happen to the school,” he remarked.

The Speaker also reminded MPs of the high expectations placed upon them, urging them to uphold decorum.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. You are not called Honourable for nothing. They expect so much from you. And don’t forget that there is life after Parliament,” he stated.

Alban Bagbin had earlier lifted the suspension of four MPs who were suspended for unparliamentary conducts, following heated altercations during the vetting session.

The suspended MPs were Frank Annoh-Dompreh (NPP, Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor (NDC, South Dayi), Alhassan Tampuli (NPP, Gushegu), and Jerry Ahmed Shaib (NPP, Weija-Gbawe).

Minority boycott MPs weekend orientation retreat in Ho

0

Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority in Parliament has boycotted a three-day orientation program being organised for members of the 9th Parliament.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the ongoing retreat at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, described the Minority’s reasons—cost concerns and lack of engagement in the venue selection process—as unacceptable.

“We lost a great opportunity because the turbulence of Parliament has once again shown itself. I only saw a WhatsApp message stating that our colleagues, our brothers and sisters of the New Patriotic Party, have opted out, giving a reason that is completely unacceptable,” he stated.

While the NPP Caucus has also cited political motivation as the reason for the venue selection, the Speaker denied any partisanship in the selection process.

“There is good reason why we choose venues for this; it is not partisan. There is always a search party, and they go around, discuss with various hospitality providers, look at the cost component, the facilities, their suitability, and the convenience of your movement—because there is pressure on you—and they score marks before we decide where to go.

“There is no partisanship at all. This time around, the Parliamentary Service followed the same process, and the final results were brought to the Speaker. Unless I have a very good reason why it shouldn’t be at that place, I simply give my approval,” he stated.

The Speaker stressed the importance of the workshop as a significant capacity-building program for MPs and Parliament staff to help them meet their demands.

Ahead of the adjournment of Parliament on Friday, February 28, 2025, the Minority raised concerns over the lack of consultation in the selection of the retreat venue, as well as cost-related issues.

“Our position is a very principled one. We are saying that the clerk and the management should consult leadership. That has been the practice. So, until that consultation is done, we cannot be part of this weekend retreat and let nobody take it with malice.

“It is a very principled stance, and that should be respected. Besides that point, we have also said—and it is important that our colleagues stay consistent with their earlier argument—that we all want to reduce costs. The last time, the argument was to reduce costs by having the event here. Mr. Speaker, what has changed?” the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, stated on the floor.

Meanwhile, the Second Deputy Speaker and Member of Parliament for Fomena, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, was sighted during the opening ceremony despite the boycott by his caucus.

January 2026 flagbearer election breaches NPP constitution – Addai-Nimoh

0

Former Asante Mampong MP of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Francis Addai-Nimoh, has accused the party’s leadership of breaching its constitution with the decision to hold presidential primaries in January 2026.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Upfront programme on Wednesday, Mr Addai-Nimoh argued that the party’s constitution clearly stipulates that, when in opposition, the NPP must elect its presidential candidate no later than 24 months before the next general election.

“The constitution of the party says the national executive committee will determine the date and the time, and not later than 24 months before the general election, when the party is in opposition; this is the provision in the constitution.”

He noted that holding the primaries in January is not only unconstitutional but also strategically unwise.

Mr Addai-Nimoh also suggested that the decision by the party’s National Council appeared to be influenced by internal political considerations, alleging that it did not serve the collective interest of the party or reflect the views of all members of the Council.

“For me, they say opinions are divided, but the division of the opinions is tilted more to the side of those who are in opposition or against the decision of the national council. Many, I am pretty sure, some of the national council members themselves are not in favour; they are not happy with what happened last month (the decision to hold the primaries in January 2026).”

He explained that “Per the constitution, we have all the way up to November or the first week of December 2026 to elect the flagbearer. So if you look at it, we shouldn’t exceed it per the constitution, so we have the whole of next year.”

Real Madrid to offer Rodrygo plus cash in bid to sign Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez

Spanish giants Real Madrid are plotting to sign Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez to bolster their midfield following their struggles last season.

According to RM Confidencial, Los Blancos view Fernandez as the ideal player to fit their midfield profile, box-to-box ability, and incredible aggressive pressing skills.

It was indicated that the club plans to offer Brazilian attacker Rodrygo and add some funds to bankroll the move in their attempt to snatch the World Cup winner from the Blues.

Despite the rumours, Real Madrid are yet to submit an official bid to commence negotiations as they look for midfield options after Luka Modric announced his departure from the club at the end of the 2024/2025 season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are understood to sanction any sale of the Argentine midfielder, whom they bought for over €100 million from Benfica.

Real Madrid have been active in the transfer window, having signed Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and Bournemouth youngster Dean Huijsen.

Madrid’s trophyless season after 2024/2025 has prompted the club to sign players to augment the squad, especially to fill the void left by German player Toni Kroos in midfield following his retirement from football.

NDC Chairman And 2 Others Confirmed Dead, Hon. Dorcas And Joyce Bawah Break Down In Tears

0

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is reeling from the devastating loss of Joseph Ade Coker, former Greater Accra Regional Chairman, who passed away on 31 May 2025 at the Bank Hospital after a brief illness. Alongside this tragedy, two other prominent NDC figures, whose identities remain unconfirmed, have reportedly died, plunging the party into deep sorrow. The news has left key party members, including Jomoro MP Dorcas Affo-Toffey and Special Aide Joyce Bawah Mogtari, visibly heartbroken, as they mourn the irreplaceable contributions of these leaders.

Ade Coker, a respected figure in Ghanaian politics, was celebrated for his dedication to strengthening the NDC in Greater Accra. Edudzi Tameklo, Head of the NDC Legal Department, described him as a “father figure” who taught resilience and focus, shaping the party’s youth wing during his tenure. Tameklo’s emotional tribute on social media highlighted Coker’s mantra: “You can’t stop people from talking, but learn how to react.” Eric Edem Agbana, Ketu North MP, credited Coker with mentoring him in the Ga language and facilitating key opportunities, underscoring his profound influence.

Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who worked closely with Coker, broke down in tears, recalling his unifying leadership in Jomoro. Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a close ally of President John Mahama, was equally devastated, praising Coker’s role in the NDC’s recent electoral success. The additional loss of two party members has intensified the grief, though details remain scarce pending official statements.

Ghanaians have flooded social media with condolences, reflecting on Coker’s legacy of service and patriotism. The NDC plans a memorial to honour the deceased, with calls for unity to uphold their vision. As the party navigates this painful period, President Mahama is expected to address the nation, reinforcing the NDC’s commitment to stability and progress despite the tragic setbacks.

GH¢1 fuel levy eight times worse than scrapped E-Levy – Bawumia

0

Former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has sharply criticised the NDC government for introducing what he calls a “Dumsor Levy” on fuel, describing it as a betrayal of campaign promises and far more punitive than the now-scrapped E-Levy.

Addressing party supporters in Cape Coast during the final leg of his nationwide “Thank You Tour” of the Central Region, Dr Bawumia accused the governing NDC of hypocrisy and deception.

Ghana chief justice Gertrude Torkornoo suspended by president

0

Ghanaian President John Mahama has suspended the country’s Supreme Court chief justice – a move that marks a first in the country’s history.

Three undisclosed petitions have been filed against Gertrude Torkornoo calling for her removal while an investigation is launched.

Chief justices in Ghana enjoy security of tenure – meaning they can only be removed from office on a few grounds, which include incompetence and misbehaviour.

The content of the petitions has not been made public and she is yet to comment, while Ghana’s former attorney general has claimed her suspension is an attempt to undermine the judiciary.

“I think it is a complete charade,” Godfred Yeboah Dame told the BBC.

“It’s the biggest assault on the [judiciary] in the nation’s history, the greatest assault on the independence of the judiciary under the constitutional dispensation of this country.”

Ms Torkornoo is Ghana’s third female chief justice and was nominated in 2023 by former president Nana Akufo-Addo.

It is her responsibility to oversee the administration of justice in Ghana.

According to news agency Reuters, Ms Torkornoo survived a removal request earlier this year when former President Akufo-Addo said a petition to have her dismissed had “several deficiencies”.

Copies of the three recently filed petitions against Ms Torkornoo were not initially made available to her.

But some lawyers argued that withholding the documents was a violation of Ms Torkornoo’s right to a fair hearing.

Copies of the petition were subsequently made available to the chief justice, allowing her to respond to the allegations privately and in writing.

Ms Torkornoo will be invited by the five-member committee to respond again to the petitions before a final decision is reached as to whether she should be removed from office or not.

It is difficult to contain Afenyo-Markin's excesses – First Deputy Speaker

0

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, has expressed concerns over the conduct of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, describing his approach to parliamentary business as unpredictable and sometimes excessive.

Speaking on PM Express on Monday, February 3, the Akatsi South MP noted that while he has a cordial working relationship with the Effutu legislator, he often struggles to deal with his shifting positions on committee matters.

Africa’s hope crushed at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

0

William Ezah, GNA Special Correspondent, USA

New York, June 26, GNA – It’s the end of the road for the four contenders at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on going in the United States of America (USA).

Not even African giants and big spenders Al Ahly of Egypt could afford a round of 16 berth, despite having an enviable record in the competition where they place third on four occasions since the competition started.

Al Ahly could only afford two draws and a loss in a group that also featured Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, and that was not enough to grant them passage to the next round of the competition.

For a moment, expectations were high as South African side Mamelodi Sundowns, Africa’s last remaining hope at the revamped 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, were going to make it to the next stage but a draw game against Flumenense made their four points not enough for passage into the round of 16.

They fell to German side Borrusia Dortmund 4-3 in a thrilling encounter, having won their opener against Ulsan HD from South Korea.

Esperance of Tunisia on the other hand managed only a win and two defeats that saw them exit a group stages of the competition.

Esperance had to contend with tough customers like Chelsea and Brasilian Flamengo in the championships.

Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca have also exited the competition, are the poorest in the competition with no points after three matches.

With just a match in their group, Wydad would not make any progress if they win. It would be all about pride as they take on Al Ain in a dead rubber.

The competition would enter the next phase on Saturday, with some mouth-watering pairings.

Market Fires: Tighten security at markets

0

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the security agencies to tighten security around major markets nationwide in the face of recent market fires.

Revealing that he had asked his security heads to draw a plan to enhance security in the markets, President Mahama underscored the urgency of the situation and tasked his security chiefs to act fast.

“We held a meeting with the security heads [on Monday] to discuss how we can tighten security around all major markets to prevent such occurrences,” he stated.

Mahama stated that, “Just this morning, we heard about a fire at the Techiman Market, which indicates that this trend may continue unless we take immediate steps.”

“I’ve asked the security to arrange with the various security services to tighten security around major markets. We are also asking them to explore installing CCTV cameras at all vantage points of every market,” he added.

President Mahama made the disclosure in Accra on Monday when a delegation from the Katamanto market called on him.

The market in days past was razed to the ground by an inferno, rendering thousands who trade in the market facing a life without a source of livelihood. As part of the security measures, the President noted that the Fire Service had been directed to deploy fire tenders to major markets across the country, especially at night.

Market fires, the President emphasized, might not only be a result of faulty electrical installations but also suspected acts of arson.

“These fires take place at night, and that is what gives us room for suspicion that there are people who are deliberately doing this. In the daytime, you don’t hear that there is a fire [outbreak] anywhere. How the fire can decide that it is only at night that it ignites and burns is beyond anybody’s imagination,” he stated.

This suspicion, the President said, was found in a 2013 investigation his then government commissioned into market fires, which established arson.

“I remember it has happened before, in 2013 when I was newly sworn in as president. There were fires in almost every market, which was quite unusual, and in many cases, the investigations showed that people deliberately set the markets on fire in order to cause chaos and confusion,” he said.

He gave assurance of his government’s resolve to assist the affected traders back into business but said the market should be built into a strong facility.

“[The] Government is determined that nobody should be displaced because of this fire…but we must design it better and make sure that we build it in a better way,” the President indicated.

Ghana is not broke, it is bleeding- UPSA’s Prof. Boadi calls for bold action on tax leakages

0

Associate Professor Isaac Boadi, Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Finance at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has painted a sobering picture of Ghana’s fiscal landscape, characterising the nation’s financial troubles not as a state of bankruptcy but as the result of massive systemic losses.

Speaking at a Tackling Tax Revenue Leakages in Ghana Forum organised by his faculty, Prof. Boadi argued strongly that the risks are dire if immediate yet bold actions are not taken to tackle tax revenue leakages in Ghana.

“Ghana is not broke. Ghana is bleeding,” he declared, pointing out that “This is not a political matter. It is not NDC versus NPP. It is Ghana versus corruption.”

According to Prof. Boadi, Ghana loses about GH₵9 billion annually due to a combination of corruption, tax evasion, and systemic smuggling across various sectors of the economy.

He stressed that these are not abstract figures but stark indicators of missed opportunities and human suffering.

“These figures are not just numbers,” he said. “They represent classrooms unbuilt, machines and medicines unavailable, and dreams deferred.”

Sector-by-Sector breakdown of fiscal leakages

Prof. Boadi outlined detailed estimates of losses across several critical sectors, citing credible sources:

  • Tax Administration: An estimated GH₵3 billion is lost annually to illicit financial flows, largely through high-net-worth individuals and foreign companies exploiting legal loopholes (GRA estimates).
  • Customs and Trade: The World Bank’s 2023 report highlights import-related corruption costing Ghana over GH₵550 million annually due to under-invoicing, especially in machinery and textiles.
  • Gold Mining: Losses in 2022 alone were pegged at GH₵2 billion, with about 60% of small-scale mining operations evading taxes entirely.
  • Oil and Gas: An estimated GH₵1.5 billion in unaccounted revenues linked to production-sharing agreements, as reported by OPEC.
  • Cocoa Smuggling: Approximately GH₵150 million lost annually due to cross-border smuggling activities.
  • Forestry: Illegal logging is estimated to cost GH₵250 million annually in unpaid timber royalties (Forestry Commission).
  • Public Procurement: The Auditor-General’s reports indicate a loss of over GH₵170 million due to procurement inefficiencies and waste.
  • Fertiliser Subsidy Programme: Roughly GH₵100 million is lost yearly to fertiliser smuggling under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
  • Port and Harbours: Corruption at Ghana’s ports results in an estimated GH₵250 million loss annually through unpaid import duties.
  • Informal Sector: With an estimated 80% of the workforce operating informally, Ghana loses an additional GH₵15.6 million annually in untapped tax revenue.

Root causes and consequences

Prof. Boadi identified four root causes fuelling the leakages: weak enforcement, outdated systems, institutionalised collusion, and lack of transparency.

He warned that if these are not addressed, Ghana risks deeper social and economic consequences, including deteriorating public services, rising youth unemployment, and a worsening debt crisis.

“The loopholes are being exploited, not just by petty criminals, but by powerful corporations and even officials benefiting from a broken system,” he said.

The way forward

In his closing remarks, Prof. Boadi urged all stakeholders—government, private sector, and citizens—to rise to the occasion.

He outlined four urgent interventions:

  1. Digitalisation of revenue collection systems – “We cannot tackle 21st-century challenges with 20th-century tools.”
  2. Strict sanctions for offenders – “Without consequences, corruption becomes profitable.”
  3. Transparency in public finance – “Every Ghanaian must be able to track how every cedi is raised and spent.”
  4. Formalisation of the informal sector – “Bringing more economic actors into the tax net is essential for inclusive development.”

He warned: “The data is clear. The victims are real. And the solutions demand courage—from all of us.”

Fair cocoa pricing can stop illegal farm sales – John Dumelo

Cocoa is a key export commodity for Ghana Cocoa is a key export commodity for Ghana

Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo has emphasized the need for fair pricing of cocoa to prevent farmers from selling their lands for illegal mining.

Ghana’s cocoa industry is increasingly under threat from illegal mining, locally referred to as ‘galamsey,’ which has resulted in the destruction of large cocoa farms. It is believed that some cocoa farmers sell their land to illegal small-scale miners, who then convert it into mining sites.

Speaking during his vetting, Dumelo stressed that ensuring cocoa farmers receive competitive prices for their produce would serve as a strong incentive for them to retain and cultivate their farms.

He further highlighted the need for structural reforms in the mining industry to ensure responsible practices that do not negatively impact cocoa farms.

“Giving cocoa farmers the right price will deter them from selling their cocoa farms. The second one is also to restructure or structure the whole mining industry well so that wherever they mine, it wouldn’t be able to affect these cocoa farms. But I think that the main one is about pricing.”

Let’s collaborate to make the Petroleum Hub dream a reality

The Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Dr Toni Aubynn, has called on all relevant stakeholders to work together to ensure the success of Ghana’s Petroleum Hub project.

Addressing representatives from various agencies at the inaugural PHDC Inter-Agency Dialogue on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Dr Aubynn urged stakeholders to collaborate effectively to eliminate bureaucratic delays and inefficiencies that deter potential investors.

“We are here because we recognize that the success of Ghana’s Petroleum Hub vision is interconnected, not with one agency, one ministry, or one entity alone, but with the harmonised efforts of many institutions, both public and private,” he stated.

“Each of us in this room represents a cog in the wheel of national progress. And when that wheel turns smoothly, through collaboration, shared information, clear mandates, and mutual respect, our nation moves forward,” Dr Aubynn emphasised.

He continued, “Too often, however, our efforts have been siloed. We’ve had good intentions but fragmented actions. The result? Delays in policy execution, missed investment opportunities, and a general perception of bureaucracy that deters the very partners we are trying to attract.”

Dr Aubynn stressed that for progress to be made, inter-agency coordination must become a culture, not an afterthought.

“We must streamline processes, align timelines, reduce duplication, and ensure that our communications are consistent and timely. Investors are watching. Citizens are watching. And they are looking to us for leadership, not just in vision, but in execution,” he said.

He reaffirmed PHDC’s commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment that not only attracts but also retains investment in the Petroleum Hub.

According to Dr Aubynn, the hub will generate numerous job opportunities, contributing significantly to the growth and resilience of the local economy.

Parliament Boosts Security To Block Suspended MPs

0

Security around Parliament has been significantly increased to prevent the entry of suspended Members of Parliament (MPs).

The move follows the suspension of four lawmakers by Speaker Alban S. K. Bagbin for their involvement in a violent confrontation during the vetting of ministerial nominees on Thursday, January 30, at the Appointments Committee sitting.

The four MPs were suspended for two weeks after being accused of causing chaos during the vetting process, which resulted in a physical altercation.

To enforce the suspension, security has been strengthened within Parliament, including the foyer of the chamber.

This added layer of protection is intended to block the suspended MPs from attempting to regain access to the parliamentary chambers during today’s sitting.

Daily Guide Network gathered that these actions have been taken to ensure the safety and smooth functioning of Parliament.

While Minority members have expressed frustration over the decision, claiming the action is illegal, the suspension has sparked a broader debate on the balance between maintaining decorum and protecting the legal rights of MPs.

The heightened security measures are expected to remain in place until the end of the suspension period.

The Minority is also contemplating exploring legal options to challenge the suspension of their colleagues, allowing them to return to active participation in legislative proceedings.

Defence Minister highlights economic challenges left behind by NPP

0

Defence minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah Defence minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah

Defence minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has stated that Ghana’s economic condition does not reflect an economy that has “turned the corner,” but rather one in severe distress, weighed down by debt repayment burdens, mismanagement, and a lack of accountability.

Speaking on the state of the economy in a Facebook post after Finance Minister Dr Casiel Ato Forson presented his maiden budget to Parliament, Dr. Boamah emphasized that the 2025 budget aims to set Ghana on a path of fiscal responsibility, debt sustainability, macroeconomic stability, and job creation.

He noted that the government, under President John Dramani Mahama, is focused on resetting the economy and restoring hope for Ghanaians.

Dr. Boamah criticized the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, accusing them of awarding contracts outside the expenditure framework and borrowing beyond Ghana’s capacity to repay.

He assured Ghanaians that President Mahama’s administration would exercise fiscal discipline while delivering efficient public services.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to meeting the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme targets while restoring Ghana’s creditworthiness.

He also acknowledged the progress made so far, stating that while a lot has been achieved within a short time, this is only the beginning of the administration’s reform efforts.

Dr. Boamah highlighted several key promises that the Mahama administration has fulfilled since assuming office:

Reduced Government Size: A commitment to running a lean and efficient government with 60 ministers has been delivered. Tax Reforms: The government has scrapped the E-Levy and the betting tax on winnings.

Education Reforms: Academic fees for first-year public tertiary students have been eliminated, and free tertiary education has been introduced for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). A dedicated source of funding has also been secured for Free SHS, while free textbooks are being distributed to schoolchildren.

Healthcare Initiatives: The administration is delivering Free Primary Healthcare and implementing the MahamaCares programme to finance the treatment of non-communicable diseases.

Social Interventions: The government has commenced the distribution of sanitary pads to schoolgirls and uncapped the GETFund, NHIL, and Road Fund.

Policy and Infrastructure Development: The $10 billion Big Push Programme for accelerated infrastructure development is underway, along with constitutional review processes and national forums on education and the economy.

Anti-Corruption Efforts: The government has launched Operation Recover All Looted State Funds, reaffirming its commitment to accountability.

Dr. Boamah reiterated that the government is determined to navigate Ghana through these turbulent times and emerge stronger.

He urged Ghanaians to support the administration’s reform agenda, emphasizing that the people of Ghana “will no longer tolerate ineffective governance.”

“We committed to Reset Ghana, and we are delivering,” he concluded.

Nanton NPP youth lock up party office over suspension of 34 members

Ibrahim Abdul Fatawu is the Secretary of the coalition Ibrahim Abdul Fatawu is the Secretary of the coalition

Correspondence from Northern Region

A coalition of New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth groups in the Nanton Constituency of the Northern Region has locked up the constituency office of the party in protest against the suspension of 34 NPP members in the area.

The youth groups argue that the suspensions are not in the best interest of the party and could harm its future in the constituency.

Tensions have been brewing within the party’s ranks in Nanton after Constituency Chairman Abukari Inusah announced the suspension of the 34 members, including businessman and NPP financier Mohammed Saha Naa, on Monday.

The party accused the suspended members—including polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and constituency executives—of supporting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate instead of the NPP’s candidate.

However, the angry youth groups, who stormed the constituency office a day after the announcement and locked it up, told journalists that the suspensions were unnecessary.

Ibrahim Abdul Fatawu, Secretary of the coalition, stated that what the party needed now was to rebuild and unite its base instead of issuing suspensions.

“The NPP lost both the general and parliamentary elections in the Nanton Constituency during the 2024 elections. At this critical time, the party’s focus should be on rebuilding, uniting its members, and strategizing to recapture power in 2028. Suspending dedicated party members, especially without due process, only deepens divisions and weakens the party’s strength in the constituency,” he said.

He accused the Constituency Executive Committee, led by the Chairman, of not giving the suspended members a fair hearing before making the decision.

“As a democratic party that upholds the rule of law and justice, it is unacceptable to suspend members without allowing them to defend themselves against the allegations made against them,” Abdul Fatawu noted.

The Secretary also questioned why the party would suspend its financier, who, he claimed, had provided immense financial and logistical support during last year’s campaign season.

“We, therefore, demand that the suspension letter be revoked immediately and without further delay,” the youth groups demanded.

Minority condemns constitutional breach over absence of President, Veep and Speaker

0

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has strongly condemned what it calls a blatant violation of the 1992 Constitution, following the simultaneous absence of the President, Vice President, and Speaker of Parliament from the country—without the swearing-in of an Acting President.

In a press statement issued on Monday, May 12, 2025, the Minority revealed that all three top officials were out of the country at the same time, a situation they argue contravenes Article 60 of the Constitution.

The provision requires that when both the President and Vice President are unavailable, the Speaker of Parliament must be sworn in to act as President.

At the time of the statement, President John Dramani Mahama was in Togo attending the African Union Debt Conference, while Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman was in the United Kingdom receiving medical treatment.

The Minority also noted that the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin—who should have stepped in—was likewise outside the country.

According to the Constitution, if all three are unavailable, the Chief Justice is expected to assume presidential duties. However, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo is currently under suspension.

Describing the situation as a “deliberate and calculated” act, the Minority accused the government of treating the Constitution as “an inconvenience rather than a binding framework.”

Signed by the Minority’s legal counsel, John Darko, the statement warned that such constitutional infractions pose a serious threat to Ghana’s democratic foundation and governance.

“We will hold the President and his Vice accountable to their oath of office, which demands fidelity to the Constitution. Where necessary, we shall invoke the relevant provisions of law to ensure that constitutional breaches do not go unpunished,” the statement concluded.

China, EU strengthen economic ties amid global trade uncertainties

0

Chinese President Xi Jinping Chinese President Xi Jinping

Chinese President Xi Jinping has reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with the European Union (EU) amid global trade uncertainties.

“Both China and the EU are major economies in the world and staunch supporters of economic globalisation and free trade,” he stated, stressing the importance of collaboration to protect the international trade environment and oppose unilateral, coercive actions.

President Xi, during a meeting in Beijing with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, highlighted the strong economic relationship between China and the EU, noting their combined economic output exceeded one-third of the global total.

“The two sides have already formed a strong economic symbiotic relationship,” he said.

Xi reiterated China’s support for the EU’s unity, development, and growth.

“In the current context, it is of great practical significance to strengthen the China-EU partnerships of peace, growth, reform, and civilisation. China and the EU should see each other as partners and embrace open cooperation,” he added.

The meeting occurred against the backdrop of rising tensions in global trade, following the United States’ tariff policies under President Donald Trump’s administration.

The White House recently announced a 10 per cent tariff on imports from all foreign countries, prompting retaliatory measures from China and the EU.

President Trump defended the policy as a move to bolster the US manufacturing and industrial base.

In response, the Chinese Government stated: “As the second largest economy and second largest market for consumer goods, China is committed to opening ever wider to the world, no matter how the international situation changes.”

President Xi remarked in the meeting with Prime Minister Sanchez, “There are no winners in tariff wars. Going against the world will only lead to self-isolation.”

On China-Spain relations, President Xi stressed the importance of mutual support and respect, particularly on issues of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Prime Minister Sánchez acknowledged the steady growth of China-Spain ties over the past 20 years and praised China’s contributions to global prosperity and stability.

“Spain values its relationship with China, and firmly upholds the one-China policy,” he said.

Prime Minister Sánchez expressed Spain’s readiness to deepen cooperation with China in trade, investment, innovation, green energy, education, culture, and tourism.

“The Spanish side stands ready to maintain high-level exchanges with China, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, investment, scientific and technological innovation, green energy and other sectors, and strengthen exchanges in education, culture, and tourism to elevate bilateral relations to new heights,” he assured.

The two leaders also discussed the Ukraine crisis during their meeting.

‘No woman can make me go hungry’ – Fred Amugi on his culinary skills

Veteran Ghanaian actor Fred Amugi Veteran Ghanaian actor Fred Amugi

Veteran Ghanaian actor Fred Amugi has confidently declared that no woman can ever make him go hungry, thanks to his exceptional cooking skills.

In a recent interview on GTV’s Breakfast Show, Amugi revealed that growing up as the only boy among seven siblings instilled in him a strong sense of independence, particularly in the kitchen.

He recounted that his father ensured he learnt to cook just like his sisters, creating a household where gender roles did not limit responsibilities.

“My daddy never treated me with kid gloves. What the girls can do, you must be able to do. And for the girls, what the boy does, you must be able to do that. So I learnt how to cook.

“All the cooking is around you. You know how soup is being prepared; you are around to see how it goes,” he recounted.

According to him, no woman can “make me go hungry.”

When asked about his favourite dish, he mentioned okro stew, prepared using coconut oil instead of palm oil, often served with rice.

He also added that he could prepare traditional meals like fufu, stating, “I can pound fufu with my left and turn it with my right.”

Peter Otokunor appointed as Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness

0

Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor has received an appointment from the president Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor has received an appointment from the president

The former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, has been appointed by President John Dramani Mahama as the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness at the Office of the President.

In an appreciation post to the president, Dr. Otokunor announced the news of his appointment, expressing his gratitude. He described the opportunity to serve under the government as a ‘rare’ one and pledged to dedicate himself fully to executing his mandate and delivering on the job.

“I want to express my deepest heartfelt gratitude to H.E John Dramani Mahama for this rare opportunity to serve in his government as the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness at the Presidency.

“I promise to commit every bit of my knowledge, skills, experience and energy to this new role to deliver on his vision. And thanks to all the Comrades, party folks and well-wishers for the best wishes. Akpe kaka! ‘Ny3yi Waladon’!! Medaase!!” he posted on his Facebook page on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

His appointment comes amid differing sentiments from many, particularly experts, who believe he would have been better suited for the role of Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture.

One such person is governance expert Professor Enoch Antwi, who opined that Otokunor’s expertise and his involvement within the party should have been rewarded with the role.

“I thought Otokunor, who has been involved in party structures, would have taken the position, but instead it went to John Dumelo, which has raised some questions,” he said in a TV3 interview on February 14, 2025.

Dr. Otokunor, an agriculture and financial economist, is expected to bring his expertise in the agriculture sector to help grow and improve the Ministry of Agriculture. He will work closely with the ministers in that department to drive progress and development.

Kejetia traders plead with Otumfuo for complete board overhaul, citing past failures

0

In a bid to revitalize trading conditions and improve the welfare of traders at the Kumasi City Market (Kejetia Market), a pressure group is urging the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to appoint a completely new board of directors, believing a fresh perspective is crucial for success.

The group, known as the Alliance for Change, is poised to formally petition Otumfuo, expressing their concerns based on observations and evaluations of the performance of previous management and boards. According to the group, the direction and management of the past board are directly responsible for the current challenges facing the market.

“As far as the board is equally culpable of the mess, our expectation is to get new and fresh minds to fix the rot, as has happened to the management echelon,” stated Anastasia Bonsu, spokesperson for the Alliance for Change. She indicated that the group will remain steadfast in pursuing this objective.

Bonsu further noted that most members of the dissolved board are unlikely to be reappointed, with the exception of Amoamahene Nana Agyenim Boateng, who represented the Asantehene. However, the group has voiced strong reservations about his potential return, stating he “couldn’t live up to expectation.” The Alliance for Change is urging Amoamahene to publicly highlight his achievements, if any, to justify his renomination.

The group firmly believes that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II possesses a wealth of talented and experienced chiefs and administrative staff capable of turning the market’s fortunes around. They also advocate for the principle of transfer, arguing that it promotes dynamism and the application of diverse perspectives.

“The market needs creative leaders who can think outside the box to fulfil the potential benefits of commercializing the facility and mobilizing revenue, rather than those whose legacy is accumulated debt and mess inspite of the available numerous revenue streams,” the traders stated.

During a recent interview, Hackman Owusu Agyemang addressed Adwoa Safo’s recent statements, asserting that her actions are causing significant damage and that she must be prepared to face the consequences. “I really didn’t want to discuss this issue, but I feel I must because staying quiet might be misinterpreted. Adwoa Safo has been making appearances on various media platforms, making several statements about the New Patriotic Party (NPP). While I don’t have an issue with her granting interviews, I am deeply concerned about the falsehoods she is spreading. That’s why I felt the need to address this before the situation gets out of hand.”

“To be fair, some of what she is saying is accurate, but a significant portion of her claims about the NPP is completely misleading.”

“I want to make it clear—Adwoa Safo’s behavior is unacceptable. She is causing serious harm, and she will have to deal with the consequences. She has every right to speak, but using her platform to attack the NPP in this manner is entirely unacceptable,” Hackman Owusu Agyemang said. “I really didn’t want to discuss this issue, but I feel I must because staying quiet might be misinterpreted.

Ghana paired with France, Netherlands for Tokyo World Championships ticket

0

Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team will have a final opportunity to qualify for the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships as they return to the track on Day 2 of the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou.

On the opening day of the competition, the Ghanaian quartet of Barnabas Aggerh, Sean Safo-Antwi, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Ibrahim Fuseini posted a season best time of 38.49 seconds. However, their third-place finish behind Great Britain & Northern Ireland and Poland was not enough to secure one of the two automatic qualification spots from their heat.

As qualification now hinges on time rankings across heats, Ghana must produce a faster performance in their second race, where they face a strong field including France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Korea, and Chinese Taipei in Heat 1.

The race starts at 12:32 Ghana Time.

France and the Netherlands pose significant competition, having both registered national records under 38 seconds—37.79 and 37.91 seconds, respectively. Switzerland and Korea have seasonal bests closely aligned with Ghana’s, while Chinese Taipei trails slightly behind.

Ghana’s national record of 38.07 seconds remains within reach, and improving upon their Day 1 performance could place them among the top teams qualifying by time.

Elsewhere in the competition, other qualification hopefuls include Jamaica, Brazil, Australia, China, and Belgium, all of whom are scheduled to compete in other heats. Notably, Jamaica and Brazil bring world-class pedigree, with national records of 36.84 and 37.72 seconds, respectively.

With only a limited number of remaining slots available for Tokyo, Ghana’s performance on Day 2 will be critical in determining whether they will be part of the 4x100m relay line-up at the World Championships later this year.

Supreme Court to hear NDC case on parliamentary collation order on January 23

0

The Supreme Court will on Thursday, January 23, hear the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) case  seeking to quash the High Court’s order directing the Electoral Commission (EC) to collate outstanding parliamentary results.

On Saturday, January 4, the High Court, presided over by Justice Forson Baah Agyapong, granted a mandamus application filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), directing the EC to complete the collation exercise for Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Techiman South and Ablekuma North and declare the winners.

In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, stated that the NDC’s earlier suit to stay the execution of the collation exercise was adjourned indefinitely after the NPP was not properly served.

“We went to court on Monday, and the judge indicated that the NPP candidates had not been properly served, so our lawyers must find a way to serve them before the matter can be properly heard. As a result, the case was adjourned indefinitely until they are properly served,” he explained.

Dr. Tanko-Computer added; “however, the certiorari we filed at the Supreme Court is scheduled for January 23, where we will ask the Court to quash the decision made by the trial judge, which allowed the EC to proceed with what we consider an illegal activity. We will be in the Supreme Court on the 23rd to argue our case.”

Chance for Childhood donates to 55 public schools

0

Patience Gbeze

Accra, May 16, GNA – Chance for Childhood (CfC), a child-centred non-governmental organisation, has donated teaching and learning resources to public schools in Accra.

In all, 35 public schools in five districts in the Greater Accra Region, including Accra Metro, Ablekuma West, Korle Klottey, La Dade-Kotopon and Adentan Municipalities benefitted.

The tactile materials worth over GHC 196,000 is to improve teaching and learning and inclusive play-base practices in Kindergarten One and Kindergarten Two Classrooms.

The items include block alphabet and numbers; sandpaper letters and numbers; abacus; building blocks; learning clocks; colour towers; animal puzzle; toddler puzzle, and alphabet memory.

Dr Clement Apaak, the Deputy Minister for Education, commended CfC for playing an active role in bridging gaps in the delivery of quality inclusive education in the country.

He noted that CfC’s holistic interventions aligned with the Ministry’s efforts to improve inclusive education by ensuring that all children, including those with disabilities at all levels of education, had equitable access to quality education, participate fully in classroom activities, and achieve learning outcomes.

Dr Apaak said CfC’s major interventions of screening and assessment for learners at Early Childhood Education level, would ensure early detection and intervention for children with disabilities.

“…In line with implementing the Inclusive Education Policy in Ghana, the Ministry is increasing its efforts to improve equitable access for quality inclusive education for learners with disabilities and other special educational needs.

“However, we acknowledge that promoting inclusive education requires strong collaboration from key stakeholders, and this regard, we commend CfC for its roles,” he added.

Mr Abdul-Ghaffar Adam, CfC Country Representative, announced that similar donations would be made next week to 20 public schools in four districts in the Northern Region.

He said aside from impacting teaching and learning in their target districts, the CfC also worked with the GES to build the capacity of teachers and parents with children with disabilities to pay particular attention to their wards’ learning needs.

He urged institutions and stakeholders to come on board to enable them achieve their common goals.

Mr Richard O. Opoku, the CfC’s Inclusion and Safeguarding Lead/ Senior Programmes Manager, also called on the private sector, corporate bodies and all partners to join them in enhancing inclusive practices within mainstream education.

“Your partnership can help us create a more equitable learning environment for all children, especially those with disabilities and other special educational needs,” he added.

Gifty Oware-Mensah’s return saves us embarrassment and hassle – Martin Kpebu

0

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has described the return of former Deputy Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware-Mensah, as a major step forward in the ongoing investigation into the NSS corruption scandal.

Speaking on her arrival in Ghana, Mr. Kpebu noted that there had been concerns about whether authorities would have to initiate extradition proceedings, as reports suggested she was in the United States.

“It’s a big step forward in the investigation because until her return, I was wondering if we were going to do extradition.

“At a point, we heard she was in the USA, so for her to have come back by herself, it’s a huge step forward. It’s saved us a lot of embarrassment and stress and hassle of trying to get her back from wherever she was,” he stated on JoyNews PM Express on Tuesday, March 3.

He further suggested that Ms. Oware-Mensah’s voluntary return could indicate a willingness to prove her innocence.

“It tells you that perhaps she is willing to come and show that she is innocent, though lawyers will tell you that she doesn’t have an obligation to prove her innocence,” he added.

Mr. Kpebu also weighed in on the severity of the NSS scandal, highlighting the large scale of alleged fraud.

“The NSS case is easily opened. The reason is that the numbers involved are huge—that’s the ghost names. About 81,000 names disappeared suddenly, and with such a drastic change, it certainly was pointing to a case that should be easy to crack and also save us lots of money,” he said.

Mr. Kpebu added that the case is now in the hands of the Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, who has found merit in pursuing it further.

I may be in this alone, but its effects ripple far beyond me – Suspended Chief Justice on her ‘trial’

0

Suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, has issued a rare public address, warning that the process to remove her from office sets a dangerous precedent for the country’s democracy and judiciary.

In a televised statement on Wednesday, Chief Justice Torkornoo described the ongoing proceedings against her as deeply flawed, unlawful, and unprecedented, asserting that although she may be the only one under investigation, the implications extend far beyond her.

“Though I am in the process alone, its effects ripple far beyond me as a person,” she said. “It affects how all judges and heads of independent constitutional bodies may be removed in the future.”

The Chief Justice is currently the subject of an Article 146 removal process— which she said is something that has never before happened in Ghana’s 68-year history.

She described the procedure as unconstitutional, lacking transparency, and “designed to intimidate,” citing a catalogue of irregularities and violations of natural justice.

Among the breaches she pointed out were the committee’s refusal to share copies of the petitions and evidence with her legal team, the denial of her right to cross-examine petitioners, and the decision to hold the hearings in secret at a high-security zone she described as symbolically threatening.

“I am being tried behind high walls at Adu Lodge, a site associated with the planning of the murder of judges in 1981,” she said. “Was it chosen to make me feel insecure? I think so.”

She also raised concerns about conflict of interest in the composition of the committee, noting that Justice Gabriel Pwamang—who chairs the committee—once ruled in favour of a key petitioner, Mr Daniel Ofori, in a Supreme Court case in which she dissented.

She questioned the fairness of allowing a judge involved in that matter to preside over her removal proceedings.

Chief Justice Torkornoo revealed that she had taken legal steps to have the hearings opened to the public and to challenge the committee’s procedure.

However, her requests were dismissed by the Supreme Court, and her supplementary affidavit on human rights violations was struck out at the Attorney-General’s request.

Despite growing calls for her resignation, the Chief Justice stood firm, saying she would not be coerced into stepping down.

“Resigning or retiring while Article 146 proceedings are ongoing is not even an option available to a judge or public officer under the Constitution,” she stated. “If I resign under these circumstances, I would be saying this flawed process is acceptable. It is not.”

She added that efforts to frustrate her into resignation would only allow the architects of the process to claim her silence or departure as validation of the charges—charges she insists are false, unfounded, and politically motivated.

The Chief Justice further explained that she responded fully to the three petitions filed against her, including allegations from Mr Ofori, which she described as either factually wrong, misinformed, or grounded in personal dissatisfaction with legitimate judicial processes.

“If this model of removal can be tried on the Chief Justice, it can be repeated with anyone,” she said. “I sounded the warning. The nation must now decide whether to act or ignore it.”

If You Want To Change The Name Of Kotoka Airport, Do So And Stop These Theatrics

0

P.K. Sarpong, a popular writer for the opposition NPP, has told President John Mahama to go ahead and change the name of Kotoka International Airport and stop the theatrics.

P.K. Sarpong made this comments in a post shared on his Facebook page on 24th February, 2025. He wrote:

“Dear President John Dramani Mahama!

End this cantata show. We are not kids here. Stop hiding behind DemocracyHub, a group that is affiliated to your party to do this hatchet job for you.

The CPP of Nkrumah of blessed memory is an extinct creature. It died with Nkrumah. In fact, the NDC which you lead, was the beneficiary of the death of the CPP. Don’t we all know that the NDC is peopled mostly by CPP elements? Even you and your family members were CPP.

Mr. President, if you want to change the name of Kotoka International Airport, do so and stop these theatrics.”

According to P.K. Sarpong, It is the intention of John Mahama to remove the name of Kotoka from the Kotoka International Airport and replace it with Kwame Nkrumah’s name. He asked him to go ahead and do it and let us have our peace of mind.

“Stop sponsoring these your party elements on this needless issue. What would the name change do for us as a country? Would it bring your promised 24-hour economy into fruition?

Instead of concentrating on the numerous pledges you made to us prior to the 2024 elections, you are rather embarking on this needless name changing campaign.

Kotoka is from the Volta Region, and the airport was named after him for pretty good reasons. If you find those reasons to be baseless, Sir, scrap them and do what flipping well pleases you and your party members. ” P.K. Sarpong added.

He asked John Mahama not to play with our intelligence. He added that Ghanaians can read between the lines. Change the name right away to appease your desires.

“If the Ga and Dangbe people have no issues with the name change from a foreigner to another foreigner, who are we to oppose it?

Sir, the comedy must end. No need sponsoring these people to go to the Supreme Court over this. You are the president and can do whatever you want with the power you have, please. We are simply tired of these populist agenda from your stables!” P.K. Sarpong concluded.
