Group describes 1V1D policy as drain on public purse, calls for accountability
‘Only the court can restrict our routes’
Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah (M) among other members of the protest group
Popular Ghanaian media personality and activist, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, has stated that their planned three-day demonstration, scheduled for April 28–30, 2025, and dubbed #GalamseyMustFall, #SaveOurGhana, and #GhanaDeservesBetter, can only be restricted or cancelled by a court of law.
Leading representatives from the Generational Rights Protection Society on Thursday, April 17, 2025, to officially notify the Ghana Police Service of the upcoming demonstration, Afrifa-Mensah explained that there was a standoff with the police over the proposed protest route—particularly the final destination at the Presidency.
He stated that the police disagreed with their chosen route and advised them to seek legal redress if they believed the demonstration should be limited or could not proceed as planned.
“Disagreements arose concerning the demonstration’s final destination; however, according to the Public Order Act, only a court of law—not the police—can make that determination,” he said.
“The only place where such issues can be resolved is in court. So, we made our intentions clear: if they think we cannot hold the demonstration or use the route we’ve chosen, then they should go to court. Whatever the court decides, we will respect it,” he told journalists on Friday, April 18, 2025.
The planned protest seeks to challenge the Mahama-led government’s alleged failure to combat the illegal mining menace, popularly known as galamsey.
Under the rallying cry “Ghana’s Future Is Worth Fighting For,” Afrifa-Mensah has called on citizens from all walks of life to rise and speak out against what he described as a national crisis threatening the country’s environment, natural resources, and future prosperity.
The protest is gaining momentum on social media, with hashtags such as #GalamseyMustFall, #SaveOurGhana, and #GhanaDeservesBetter.
The movement aims to put pressure on the government to take decisive action against illegal mining operations that continue to destroy water bodies, farmlands, and forest reserves across the country.
“Our water, our air, our land, our future! Let’s come together to protect Ghana’s environment from the devastating effects of galamsey,” Afrifa urged in a public message.

Criss Waddle Fires Shots at Alabaster Box Amid GHC 15 Million Court Drama Involving Medikal and Sark
The Ghanaian music industry has recently been abuzz with controversy following Criss Waddle’s public criticism of Alabaster Box, a gospel music group, over a purported GHC 15 million court case involving rapper Medikal and artist Sarkodie. This development has intensified existing tensions within the music community, particularly concerning the dynamics between Criss Waddle and Medikal.
Medikal, whose real name is Samuel Adu Frimpong, has had a longstanding association with Criss Waddle’s AMG Business label. Despite their close relationship, Medikal recently announced his departure from AMG Business, citing disrespect from the label and its affiliates. This decision was influenced by an incident involving Sam Sarfo Jnr, also known as Showboy, who allegedly assaulted AMG affiliate David Deuces. Medikal expressed his frustration over the lack of accountability within the label, stating that he could no longer remain silent about the ongoing issues.
The situation was further complicated by Criss Waddle’s previous statements regarding his relationship with Medikal. In a 2022 interview, Waddle revealed that a public dispute between him and Medikal was orchestrated as a publicity stunt to promote his single “Take Me Back” featuring Stonebwoy. However, the recent developments suggest that underlying tensions may have persisted beyond the staged altercation.
Adding to the complexity, Criss Waddle has publicly addressed Medikal’s expressions of gratitude, suggesting that the rapper has shown enough appreciation and should move forward. This stance contrasts with Medikal’s consistent acknowledgment of Waddle’s role in his career, where he has referred to him as his mentor and godfather.
The involvement of Alabaster Box in the alleged GHC 15 million court case remains unclear, as no official statements have been released by the group. The lack of transparency has fueled speculation and debate within the music community.
As the situation unfolds, it underscores the intricate relationships and challenges within the Ghanaian music industry. The public fallout between Criss Waddle and Medikal serves as a reminder of the importance of clear communication and accountability among artists and their affiliates.

‘We will kill them all’ Kremlin sends chilling nuclear threat to UK over ‘coalition of the willing’
Vladimir Solovyov, one of the most prominent mouthpieces of Russian President Vladimir Putin, issued a chilling warning to the UK over its support for Ukraine and a coalition of the willing
Vladimir Putin’s mouthpiece has chillingly threatened Sir Keir Starmer and his “coalition of the willing” with nuclear war.
Vladimir Solovyov, a notorious echo of Putin’s views and a fervent commentator on Russia’s War on Ukraine, issued the grave threat as a counter to Western media stories and support coming from European nations to Ukraine.
On his television show ‘Sunday Evening With Vladimir Solovyov’, the Kremlin’s spokesperson stated that the UK and coalition of the willing “are directly waging war against us”.
Directly addressing the Western leaders, he ominously warned that they would “feel their consequences” just like soldiers in combat.
He proclaimed: “You don’t understand the main thing. We see right through your coalition of peacemakers, who are not peacemakers but basically interventionists, will be destroyed.
“You have to realise that not only the frontline units you’re planning to deploy on the territory of Ukraine will be destroyed, but since we can’t perceive it in any other way other than the direct participation of your countries, you will feel the consequences, the likes of which you have never seen.”
His menacing message to Britain, France, Germany, and the Baltic states was clear: “All of your howling will not help you.”
He concluded with a sombre warning: “Your fate will be sad.”
Fellow broadcaster Margarita Simonyan took swipes at the West, citing a recent article in The Times as proof of wavering commitment: “The article basically says, ‘Should we keep going? If we go on that means we have to send our troops. Is the British public ready for this? Because our people may perish.'”
She bluntly added her chilling take: “It’s not that they may perish. They will certainly perish. We will kill them all.”
Russian Media Monitor provided the alarming translation.
As Russia continues its assault, Ukrainian cities and civilian structures bear the brunt. A deadly missile attack struck Sumy on Sunday, causing 35 fatalities and injuring 117 people.
President Trump weighed in on the “terrible” event, branding it an accident by Russian forces but stopped short of elaborating, even though Russia said it was not an accident.
The strike prompted a response from UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ spokesperson, who voiced grave concern and incredulity: “Attacks against civilians and civilian objects are prohibited under international humanitarian law, and that any such attacks, wherever they occur, must end immediately.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has used the attack as evidence of Russia’s true intentions regarding peace talks, contradicting their apparent diplomatic gestures. Despite Russia’s assertion of targeting a concentration of Ukrainian troops within the city, it has yet to substantiate its claim with evidence.
In another twist on Tuesday, Zelensky is said to have fired Sumy’s regional chief over claims of holding a medal presentation ceremony, according to local press reports.

Ghana is a failing state – Senyo Hosi
Convener of the One Ghana Movement, Senyo Hosi has said that Ghana is a failing state following the increasing rate of illegal small-scale mining (Galamsey).
He noted that galamsey must be dealt with very ruthlessly because armed galamseyers shoot at security officers.
He further called for an investigation into the circumstances where foreign nationals who are engaged in illegal small-scale mining created their own community.
Senyo Hosi says this is a national security threat that must be taken seriously.
Speaking on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, April 19, he said “It is a national security issue, are we really safe as a country that we actually have foreign nationals create their own communities? This is a very established community, totally unmapped, it is very scary. I think Ghanaians should be very concerned about what is going on.
“It is very scary that foreigners can infiltrate our country, create a community and their own community, and it is a disgrace. Investigate why national security allowed this to happen.
“Galamsey must be dealt with very ruthlessly because you have armed galamseyers shooting at security officers. We are a failing state, and the president must take this matter hold the bull by the horns, and not fail us.”
A joint team from the Forestry Commission in the Western Region and the Armed Forces stormed Abrewa Ninkrane, a notorious galamsey enclave across the Subri Forest Reserve.
The raid which occurred on Tuesday, April 15 dawn saw the task force set ablaze several makeshift camps used by illegal miners, many of whom are believed to be foreign nationals from Nigeria, Guinea, Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.
The move forms part of the effort to protect the Subri Forest Reserves from further destruction.
The Subri Forest Reserve had recently become a hotspot for illegal mining activities, rendering hundreds hectors of vegetation cover destroyed.
Nana Kwabena Bosompim, Western Regional Forestry Manager, in an interview after the operation, stated that the illegal miners had constructed fully functional hubs, including wooden brothels and makeshift shelters that served both as living spaces and business centres.
He cautioned illegal miners to desist from engaging in mining in reserved areas and water bodies or face the law.
He said the task force will be based in the community for the next two weeks to ensure that illegal miners do not return to the site.
“We are told young girls nowadays do not even want to go to school; they want to be here to make money from the prostitution business, and that is very bad. When we were coming, we estimated to meet 2000 miners, but today when we came here in the morning, we estimated more than 10,000 and we could not affect arrest because the number of people we are going to arrest will not even fit in our vehicle.
“We just had to raid the community and burn down the equipment and make sure everybody is flushed out. We are going to be here for the next two weeks and will make sure every illegal miner is raided from this community.
“I sent a warning to all the miners to get out of this community, forest reserves and the water bodies. If you want to mine, do that legally, and we will have no issues with you,” he revealed.

Ghana’s Chief Justice Faces Suspension After Council of State Ruling
Ghana’s judicial independence faces a critical test as the Council of State confirmed a prima facie case against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, clearing the path for her potential suspension and trial.
The development, unprecedented since Ghana’s Fourth Republic began in 1993, signals a pivotal moment for the nation’s governance, balancing judicial accountability against perceptions of political interference.
Constitutional provisions mandate that once a tribunal is established to investigate a sitting Chief Justice, the likelihood of removal rises significantly. Analysts cite historical precedents to estimate a 70% chance of Torkornoo’s ouster, though the specifics of the allegations remain undisclosed. The process, unfolding amid heightened political tensions, has drawn scrutiny over its implications for Ghana’s reputation as a stable democracy.
Investor confidence hangs in the balance, with observers warning that perceived politicization of the judiciary could deter foreign capital. Ghana, already navigating economic challenges, risks unsettling markets if the proceedings are viewed as undermining institutional integrity. Yet the silence of civil society groups, typically vocal in defending judicial autonomy, has fueled speculation. Some interpret their restraint as tacit approval, suggesting broader dissatisfaction with recent court rulings.
Controversial decisions under Torkornoo and her predecessor, including a 2022 ruling that rejected birth certificates as proof of citizenship, have strained public trust. Critics argue such judgments exacerbate barriers to civic rights, while supporters frame them as strict adherence to legal statutes. The current government links Torkornoo’s potential removal to its flagship anti-corruption initiative, codenamed ORAL, which has garnered cautious support from reform advocates.
The ruling administration faces a delicate balancing act. Framing the tribunal as a necessary step to restore judicial credibility could strengthen governance reforms. Conversely, perceptions of executive overreach might erode democratic norms, particularly if the process appears rushed or lacking transparency. Regional allies and international partners are monitoring closely, aware that Ghana’s handling of this crisis could influence broader African narratives about judicial independence.
As Ghana approaches a decisive phase, the outcome will hinge on public perception. A transparent, legally rigorous process may reinforce accountability mechanisms. However, any whiff of political vendetta could deepen divisions, challenging the nation’s hard-earned democratic credentials. The Chief Justice’s fate now intertwines with Ghana’s broader quest to reconcile the rule of law with evolving societal expectations.

No Fees Stress: Students will no longer receive direct funds; money will be used to pay second-year fees
Dr Clement Apaak, Deputy Minister for Education
Deputy Education Minister Dr Clement Apaak has revealed that first-year university students will no longer receive direct refunds under the government’s no-fee stress policy.
He explained that the funds would be credited toward their second-year tuition fees.
The Builsa South MP noted that the move is aimed at preventing logistical challenges and any potential impropriety.
During his vetting, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu announced that students who had already paid for the 2025 academic year would receive refunds.
However, Dr Apaak has revealed that after an assessment, it was decided that the money should no longer be given to the students directly, but rather used to pay their second-year fees.
He told Joy News that “Rather than the physical reimbursement, going forward, as they go into their second year, what should have come to them to defer their academic fee for the first year will become a credit, which will then mean that as they go to the second year, they won’t have to pay because they have already paid for their first year.”
He added, “This approach helps us avoid logistical challenges and any potential impropriety.”
The government in the 2025 budget statement allocated GH¢499.8 million for the No-Academic-Fee policy for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions under the ‘No-Fees-Stress’ initiative.
This was announced by the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, during his presentation of the 2025 Budget in Accra on Tuesday, March 11.
“Mr Speaker, an amount of GH¢499.8 million has been allocated for the No-Academic-Fee policy for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions under the ‘No-Fees-Stress’ initiative,” Dr Forson said.
The “No-Fees-Stress” is an initiative promised by President John Dramani Mahama with the objective of easing the financial burden on parents and guardians in Ghana, particularly in relation to the payment of school fees.
You Can’t Leave Your Wife and Come Here to Insult Me – Jennifer Queen Explodes on Live TV
A dramatic on-air altercation erupted on UTV’s Adekye Nsroma morning show on April 17, 2025, when Jennifer Queen, Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, clashed fiercely with Hopeson Adorye, former Deputy National Security Coordinator and now a leading voice in the Movement for Change.
The heated exchange unfolded after Hopeson repeatedly interrupted Jennifer during her submission. She snapped, promising to repay the constant interjections: “Since I’m being interrupted, I’ll interrupt you too when it’s your turn.”
In the middle of the fracas, Hopeson claimed he had trained her in communications—a remark that ignited further outrage.
“You trained who?” Jennifer fired back. “You’ve told all your people that you trained me, and they are mocking me… If God repaid evil, you wouldn’t be alive by now.”
The tension climaxed when Hopeson angrily asked, “Are you mad?” prompting Jennifer to deliver a fiery rebuke: “Am I mad? Like how? You can’t leave your wife there and come here to insult me.”
The NPP issued a strongly worded statement condemning Hopeson’s conduct, describing it as “unprogressive, undemocratic, and primitive.” Signed by Communications Director Richard Ahiagbah, the party emphasized that “threats of assault on women for expressing political views must not be tolerated.”
Ghanaians are now debating not only the ethics of political discourse but also how women in politics are treated—especially when they speak with conviction.

What country are we building when Chief Justice’s daughter receive 10K dollars as per diem? Vormawor
FixTheCountry convener Oliver Barker-Vormawor has expressed worry about the system of democracy the country practices, stating that it appears to favour those in high offices at the expense of the ordinary Ghanaian.
He claimed that the Chief justice’s daughter travels on state funds and receive a whopping 10, 000 dollars as per diem. He stated that such actions are worrying and should not be given a space in our country if we want to move forward as a people.
According to him, we can not a build a country when there is a wide inequality between those at the top and the ordinary Ghanaian.
Taking to his Facebook page, Oliver Barker-Vormawor wrote “If the Chief Justice’s daughter can travel on state funds and receive 10,000 dollars as per diem.
For being the chief justice’s daughter. What kind of Republic have we built? Where is the Justice in the chief?”
His comments are in reaction to the petitions calling for the removal of the Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo.
President John Mahama has begun consultations with the Council of State following the submission of three petitions seeking the removal of the Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo.
A statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications, confirmed that the President had forwarded the petitions to the Council of State in line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the process for removing a Chief Justice.
Although details of the petitions remain undisclosed, this development marks the beginning of a formal constitutional process that could potentially lead to significant changes within Ghana’s judiciary.

Sleeping Around With Married Women–Prof. Oquaye Report Says Moral Scandals Crippled NPP Base
Sleeping Around With Married Women–Prof. Oquaye Report Says Moral Scandals Crippled NPP Base
News Hub Creator13h
When your own party report admits your candidates were sleeping around with married women, you know the damage was deep.
According to page 27 of the Prof. Mike Oquaye post-election report, shared by Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo, moral scandals among parliamentary candidates and appointees had a devastating effect on party morale.
“70% of 42 female NPP members under 35 polled… viewed the parliamentary candidate as ‘sleeping around with married women.’”
One case in the Western Region involved a candidate having an affair with a constituency executive’s wife.
“It repeatedly came up as a factor that drove apathy within the party.”
The report warns that while some may dismiss such issues as gossip, they had real electoral consequences — weakening regional support and alienating core organizers, especially women.
“The committee was drawn to at least six high-profile appointees… implicated in scandals involving extramarital affairs… and misuse of campaign funds to finance romantic liaisons.”
In short, the NPP’s defeat wasn’t just policy failure, it was a failure of character.

At the wedding, Priscilla experienced love from close family friends who ensured that everything was in order. Actress, Toyin Abraham, was on standby to make sure that things were well organised. Beyond that, she took on roles such as giving guests tags, ushering them in, and attending to the bridesmaids’ needs.
Entrepreneur, Chioma Ikwoku, was also on hand to perform “big sister” duties while Priscilla’s best friend and social media influencer, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, catered to the bride’s needs.
Describing the moment as a dream come true, the groom stated, “I feel great. It is like a dream come true. I have been waiting for this day for so long.”
He added that he knew Priscilla was going to be his wife from the moment he saw her.
On her part, Priscilla revealed that they met in Rwanda. She also stated that she knew he would be her husband from the day she met him, saying, “It was a very different night. We instantly felt a connection.”
For their second outfits the bride wore a green and wine-colored dress while the groom sported a wine agbada to match. The couple cut their grand cake in style, sharing heartfelt kisses afterwards.
At the wedding, the couple was treated to a performance by the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke. Priscilla later introduced her husband to the governor. Her husband greeted the governor like a proper Yoruba man, which was not surprising as he has been learning the language and infusing it into his songs.
The ceremony was rounded off with an after-party where the couple celebrated with their friends.
Prior to the wedding, a mother’s night ceremony had held. Clips that went viral on the Internet showed the moment Iyabo Ojo attended the event. The ceremony was filled with prayers and songs of praise on behalf of the bride.
Priscilla’s bridesmaids also organised a surprise Tanzanian-themed bridal shower where the bridesmaids were dressed in a Tanzanian local fabric called “khanga”.
Meanwhile, the couple released a series of photos in five different outfits for their pre-wedding shoot. Further affirming their love, Juma Jux produced a seven-track EP titled, ‘God Design’, which he dedicated to his wife.
On February 7, 2025, the couple had tied the knot in a Tanzanian traditional wedding. Shortly after, they had their civil wedding, also in Tanzania.

Apologize To Me and He Will Walk Again in 14 Days – Hopeson Adorye Dares Akufo-Addo’s Family
News Hub Creator9h
Former government appointee Hopeson Adorye has made a controversial statement involving a relative of President Akufo-Addo. According to Adorye, a certain individual in the President’s family who is currently unable to walk will regain full mobility—on one condition.
“If you want your brother to walk, just come and apologize to me within fourteen days, and he will walk,” Adorye declared boldly in a video that has since gone viral.
He dismissed any possibility of spiritual or supernatural intervention, insisting that only an apology could lead to the individual’s recovery. “There’s no juju in the world that will make him walk. The only solution is to come and say, ‘What we were going to do to you, we are sorry,’” he stressed.
Adorye went on to make a dramatic promise: “Within fourteen days, he will be able to walk to the Accra Stadium and play football.”
His statement has sparked debate on social media, with many questioning the nature of the issue between him and the family in question. Others are watching closely to see if the prediction will come true.
You don’t need much prayer to get healing – Dr Otabil
DDr. Mensah Otabil, Founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), stated that Jesus Christ bore the pain of sickness through the stripes He received on Good Friday. Therefore, one does not need to pray extensively to receive healing.
He explained that healing comes as a result of one’s demonstration of trust in that sacrificial act.
Dr. Otabil made these remarks during the Good Friday service of ICGC Christ Temple, held at East Teshie in Accra.
The service was themed “By His Stripes We Are Healed”, with the key scripture taken from Isaiah 53:4-5.
“When something goes wrong in our bodies, we can ask Him for healing. It has nothing to do with how well we pray,” he said.
“But by trusting in what He has done for us, we receive the benefits of His sacrifice,” Dr. Otabil told the congregation.
Referencing the biblical account of Jesus healing Peter’s mother-in-law with little effort, Dr. Otabil encouraged the congregation to adopt the same mindset.
He noted that Jesus did not offer a long prayer but simply touched the woman’s hand, and she was healed.
“You don’t need someone to scream over you to get well. Just know that Jesus is here, and just as He touched Peter’s mother-in-law, He will heal you. You don’t need too much prayer to be healed.”
Dr. Otabil emphasized that Jesus bore humanity’s sickness and pain when He died and urged the congregation to demonstrate faith in order to receive healing.
Plans underway to relocate Kumasi Central Prisons
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has disclosed that serious conversations are underway regarding the possible relocation of the Kumasi Central Prisons, a move aimed at addressing long-standing congestion issues and improving living conditions for both inmates and officers.
“Thankfully, before today, the Interior minister was here. We held an extensive discussion on some of the challenges faced by inmates and prison officers here at the Kumasi Central Prisons and also as a region,” Dr Amoakohene shared, speaking to journalists after a recent inspection.
He further revealed that decongesting the prison was central to the discussions: “We discussed, among others, plans to be able to decongest the prison, which is key in making sure that you provide a very conducive environment for your work.”
As part of the efforts to achieve that goal, the regional minister hinted at a more transformative solution — the relocation of the entire facility.
“Additional things that have come up are a possible relocation of the central prisons so that we can have adequate land space and be able to, as it were, free the city and be able to, as it were, decongest the central prisons.”
The talks, he said, are still at the consultation stage but are receiving attention at the highest levels of leadership.
“These discussions are ongoing, and President Mahama definitely would have a say on that, and we’ll be sure what we want to do so far as the central prisons are concerned.”
‘There is progress’ – Mikel Arteta opens up on Thomas Partey’s contract talks
Thomas Partey [L] in a hug with Coach, Mikel Aterta
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says there’s progress on contract talks with several players at the club, including Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey.
The 31-year-old’s deal with the Gunners expires in June, but the club is yet to offer him a new contract, leaving the door open for the player to speak with other teams.
There are reports that Barcelona and his former club, Atletico Madrid, are both interested in signing the midfield stalwart.
However, ahead of the Premier League game against Ipswich Town, Arteta hinted that discussions between the player and the club are ongoing.
“Yes, there’s progress with all the players. I’ll leave that to Edu and the club to decide and to talk about,” said Arteta during the pre-match press conference.
Partey has been a key cog in the Arsenal team this season, delivering an inspiring performance in midweek as the Gunners stunned European champions Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The former Atletico Madrid star has played 46 games for Arsenal in the current campaign, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

Deadly blaze at Madina Redco wipes out 150 structures, claims one life
A fierce fire tore through Madina Redco Flats late last night, destroying over 150 structures and claiming the life of a young woman.
The blaze, which started at 11:15 p.m., engulfed 140 wooden structures and 20 metal containers used for both residential and commercial purposes.
Firefighters from Madina Fire Station arrived within two minutes, supported by backup from Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and the Headquarters.
Despite their rapid response, the fire was already at an advanced stage. The teams managed to confine the flames by 12:02 a.m. and fully extinguished them by 2:22 a.m.
Tragically, a Nigerian woman known as Beauty, believed to be in her early twenties, was trapped in the inferno and lost her life. Her charred remains have been handed over to the Madina Police for preservation and further investigation.
Authorities are assessing the extent of the destruction and investigating the cause of the fire, as affected residents and business owners count their losses.

Key NPP Members Who Have Joined Dr. Amoakoh Baah’s New Political Movement
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is currently facing internal upheaval as political scientist and former party stalwart Dr. Richard Amoako Baah confirms his resignation—and reveals that he is not alone in taking this bold step. In a recent interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Dr. Baah disclosed that over 30 influential NPP members have pledged their support to his newly formed political group, the New Patriotic Front.
“Even if someone tried to convince me to abandon the idea, I couldn’t, because this breakaway goes beyond just one individual,” he emphasized.
Dr. Baah noted that the movement is gaining momentum not only within Ghana but also among NPP members abroad, especially in the United States, who have reached out to express their disillusionment with the current state of the party.
His criticisms were blunt and far-reaching. He accused the NPP leadership of ignoring grassroots concerns and concentrating power among a small inner circle. According to him, this refusal to listen to dissenting voices and address internal grievances contributed significantly to the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
“Even after the 2024 defeat, the same people still want to maintain control. I’ve reached my limit — I can’t even speak freely anymore,” Dr. Baah added.
This new political front, if sustained, could weaken the NPP’s base and attract disenchanted members who feel neglected and voiceless within the party’s current structure. Dr. Baah’s comments highlight a growing divide between the leadership and the broader membership—a rift that could reshape the country’s political landscape in the months ahead.
The NPP now faces a critical choice: respond to the rising calls for reform or risk further fragmentation that could threaten its political future.

Klopp demands three big signings before agreeing Real Madrid deal
Jurgen Klopp will ask for guarantees over three big signings before agreeing to manage Real Madrid amid strong reports Carlo Ancelotti will be sacked later this month.
Real Madrid were humbled in the Champions League, bowing out to Arsenal via an eye-opening 5-1 aggregate scoreline. Los Blancos have fared little better on the domestic scene either, with the club trailing bitter rivals Barcelona by four points in LaLiga.
Real Madrid have advanced to the final of the Copa del Rey, though the imposing figure of Barcelona – who’ve beaten Real Madrid by an aggregate scoreline of 9-2 in their two matches this season – awaits.
And according to Sky Sports, the Copa del Rey final will be the final stand for manager Carlo Ancelotti who’ll be relieved of his duties shortly after.
Ancelotti isn’t expected to be out of work for long, with the Brazilian national team job already lined up. Back at the Bernabeu, the expectation was Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen would replace Ancelotti when the time came.
However, reports from UOL and then Sport claimed Real Madrid are pivoting to Jurgen Klopp.
The legendary former Liverpool boss is currently unhappy in his role as Head of Global Soccer with Red Bull and weighing up a return to management.
Klopp would reportedly only return to the stresses and strains of management for two jobs – Brazil or Real Madrid.
And with Sport stating Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is cooling on Alonso, along with Klopp reportedly being ‘willing’ to negotiate, the 57-year-old could be back in the dugout at the Bernabeu before the season is out.
Now, a fresh update from Defensa Central has shed new light on Klopp to Real Madrid.
They state Klopp’s name is ‘gaining momentum’ in the Spanish capital, though ‘he would come with a series of conditions that would need to be accepted.’
The report then claimed the conditions relate entirely to transfers and regard Real Madrid’s leaky defence specifically.
Defensa Central continued: ‘He would ask Florentino Perez for the arrival of a right-back, who will be [Trent] Alexander-Arnold, a left-back, and a centre-back.’
Demanding a triple coup will NOT be a deal-breaker for Real Madrid and his requests are said to ‘align with what the sports management proposes’ anyway.
What about Xabi Alonso?
It was only a few weeks ago that Alonso – who starred for Real Madrid during his playing days between 2009-14 – looked a shoo-in to replace Ancelotti.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano declared: “The top target remains absolutely only Xabi Alonso. For Real Madrid it is going to be Xabi Alonso when they part ways with Ancelotti.”
Alonso is by no means out of the equation, though a handful of factors do appear to be working against the Spaniard.
Sport claimed the scale of Real Madrid’s implosion this season is prompting Perez to seek a more experienced campaigner.
Alonso is widely regarded as one of the best young managers in world football, but he’s exactly that: young.
Klopp, meanwhile, has overseen well over 1,000 games in senior management and proved at Liverpool he can lift the game’s biggest honours.
His record in the Champions League – three finals with Liverpool and one with Borussia Dortmund – is also stellar.
Furthermore, BILD state Leverkusen will demand a substantial payment of around €10m before letting Alonso leave. Alonso is under contract with Leverkusen until 2026.

Watch as Asiedu Nketia deals with false claims of him owning a fuel station
National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah
National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has shared an interest story of how he dealt with fake news about him owning a fuel station in Sunyani in the Bono Region.
According to experienced politician, soon after President Kufour exited office, rumours went viral that he owned a chain of fuel stations across the country and about 200 fuel tankers, an allegation that came to him as a surprise.
He said the now opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) made a lot of noise about that allegation so well that many Ghanaians including some NDC party members believed in that lie.
Asiedu Nketia in an interview with Class FM, narrated that he became aware of the rumour only after a party member who was working at a fuel station got sacked by his employer and a call was made to him [Asiedu Nketia] to employ the dismissed employee in his supposed fuel station.
….So that senior person called saying, General, this is a problem we have to solve. This our serial caller he has just been sacked, so we are begging you, can take him at your filling station? Then I saked, which filling station? then she responded: ‘this one near Ohene Gyan’s house.’ “Then I said who owns it, I have no idea.” Then she responded: As for Sunyani everyone knows, so, even me, you want to hide it from me.”
According to the political strategist, following this encounter, he did his own checks and realised that indeed somebody was using his name to run the fuel station.
He added that, he then decided to map out a strategy to deal with the rumour once and for all.
Asiedu Nketiah explained further how he went about it.
“We did our manifesto launch in Sunyani in 2015. So the party people came from all over the country to participate. So, I told the group that came from Tamale with their buses. I told Azorka, go to this particular fuel station. Go and fuel all the buses and tell them that the owner had asked you to come and fuel. So they went and did that. When the people at the filling station demanded asked money, Azorka told them that General Mosquito is the one who asked us to come and fuel the buses. You cannot destroy my name and not have any consequences.”
Asked by the host, why he deliberately let the fuel company incur debt, and how the money was paid, Asiedu Nketiah responded:
“They said they were not paing, the filling station belongs to General Mosquito and he asked them to come and fuel the buses. The owner knew it did not belong to me and he was making all those noises. They even manhandled the attendants and drove off. So, that owner eventually had to emerge and address the press that, that filling station doesn’t belong to Asiedu Nketiah.”

In the second leg at the Emirates, Partey produced a highlight-reel moment that has lit up social media.
Under pressure from Jude Bellingham in midfield, the Ghanaian nonchalantly lifted the ball over the Real Madrid star, leaving him rooted to the spot.

The audacity and ease of the move drew widespread praise, as Partey’s composure and flair epitomised Arsenal’s dominance on the night.
That play served as a metaphor for the tie itself — Arsenal were simply a level above. They won 3-0 at home before capping it off with a 2-1 win at the Bernabéu on April 16, sealing a semi-final spot in emphatic fashion.
Midfield Masterclass Against Europe’s Best
Up against one of the most formidable midfields in Europe — Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, and Jude Bellingham — the Black Stars midfielder did not just hold his own, he bossed the centre of the park.
His positional awareness, strength on the ball, and ability to dictate tempo gave Arsenal a foundation to control both legs of the tie.
The Ghanaian was a calming influence, linking defence and attack seamlessly while breaking up Madrid’s rhythm.

When quizzed about the midfielder’s future, Arteta delivered a cryptic response, saying:
“Yes, there is progress with all the players. I’ll leave that to Andrea [Berta] and the club to decide and to talk about. The intention is very clear. I’ll leave that to Andrea and the club to take a step forward.” Arteta said.
The lack of clarity has left fans divided — some believe Arsenal should cash in and look to younger options, while others now see Partey as a vital piece in Arsenal’s title and European ambitions, especially if he can stay fit and consistent.

Powerful chiefs, pastors push to drop charges against former ‘corrupt’ NSB and NSS officials – Asani Tano
National Organiser of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Yaw Asani Tano
National Organiser of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Yaw Asani Tano, has alleged that some powerful and influential individuals are frantically pushing to have the criminal charges against the embattled former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, dropped.
Boahene was arrested at the airport upon his arrival in the country in March 2025 for allegedly embezzling state funds amounting to over GHC 30 million during his tenure as head of the NSB from 2017 to 2025.
His wife, Angela Boateng, was also arrested by detectives when she went to visit him, and both have since been formally charged.
Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has revealed that the couple acquired numerous high-end properties in Ghana and abroad using funds from questionable sources.
The investigation has uncovered a trail of luxurious properties, including:
No. 2 Stream Part Drive, Mayfair Estates, LA, Accra: A staggering $1,000,000 deposit was made for this estate, with relevant deposit slips and receipts traced.
No. 6 Edith Avenue, Mayfair Estates, LA, Accra: A deposit of $500,000 was recorded.
No. 7 Edith Avenue, Mayfair Estates, LA: $200,000 was deposited.
No. 8 Edith Avenue, Mayfair Estates, LA: An initial deposit of $97,815 was made, with authorities suspecting additional cash payments.
No. 9 Edith Avenue, Mayfair Estates, LA, Accra: A deposit of $270,000 was recorded.
No. 10 Edith Avenue, Mayfair Estates, LA, Accra: The deposit amount for this property stands at $150,000.
Speaking on a panel discussion during UTV’s Breakfast Show, the outspoken politician Yaw Asani Tano alleged that some powerful chiefs and pastors are doing everything possible to get Adu Boahene and other officials implicated in the National Service Secretariat (NSS) scandal released.
Asani Tano warned that Ghanaians would not allow allegedly corrupt former public officials to escape prosecution for their alleged crimes.”
“There are allegations that some powerful chiefs are trying to intervene in Kwabena Adu Boahene’s case. This is a test case for this government. We have heard and seen the presentation by the Attorney General on this matter. We will not allow any situation that enables these people—NSB and NSS officials—to go scot-free.
I also have intel related to National Security. I’m informed that certain individuals are trying to manipulate and suppress it.
In Adu Boahene’s case, powerful men of God and chiefs have been making frantic calls to have the case dropped. Meanwhile, people struggle to receive healthcare in our hospitals due to lack of equipment and resources. We must not allow corrupt officials to get away with their crimes. We will expose them.” Asani Tano stated.

Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has strongly criticised the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for its silence on an incident in which a microphone belonging to TV3 was pushed to the floor by the 3rd Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) during a recent public event.
The outspoken politician, during a press conference held by the Minority in Parliament on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, was captured on camera pushing the TV3 microphone to the ground—an action that appeared to surprise both the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, and the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who were seated beside him.
Alhaji Osman Masawudu, who has since spoken on the matter, stated that his action was deliberate and meant to signal the party’s disinterest in engaging with the media house.
The largest opposition party, in January 2025, announced its withdrawal from all Media General platforms—including TV3, 3 FM, and Onua FM—citing months of failed attempts to address what it described as biased and unprofessional conduct by the network’s hosts and management.
The conduct of the NPP Vice Chairman has been widely condemned by the public, with many describing his behavior as inappropriate and unprofessional.
Commenting on the issue during a panel discussion on TV3, Nana Yaa Jantuah expressed surprise at the GJA’s continued silence on the matter, several days after the incident.
“Why is the GJA quiet? We are all journalists, and there should be solidarity. When we were growing up as young journalists, we stood up for one another. So what is the GJA doing? The NPP almost collapsed this programme, they boycotted it, and you people went to do some community what-what, and it didn’t work. They are after you, and you people are quiet. The GJA should come and speak out.”
Nana Yaa Jantuah further stated that the NPP suffered a heavy defeat during the 2024 general election because they allowed arrogance to take over and ignored wise counsel from Ghanaians.
“The way these people behave—even on set—is the arrogance of power. They forgot that they were voted for, that Ghanaians put them where they were. Ghanaians were so angry—just look at how they voted against them.”

How Oyarifa traffickers used ‘promises of lucrative jobs’ to lure victims into Ghana
Some victims who had been forced into labour rescued after EOCO’s joint operation at Oyarifa
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has provided a detailed account of its recent crackdown and the subsequent arrest of individuals involved in a human trafficking operation in Oyarifa, a suburb of Accra.
Speaking to the media following the operation, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of EOCO, Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah, revealed that the suspects lured their victims into the country under false pretenses, promising them well-paying jobs.
“The victims were lured into the country by the suspects ostensibly to give them lucrative jobs in Ghana,” he said.
Dapilah further disclosed that the victims, who are all foreign nationals from neighboring countries, were tricked into abandoning their livelihoods and families in search of better living conditions in Ghana.
However, upon arrival and realizing they had been deceived, the victims were unlawfully confined and held against their will.
He added that they were later forced by their captors to engage in various criminal activities, including cybercrime.
“Unfortunately, since there were no lucrative jobs, the suspects took the victims hostage, confined them at the Oyarifa estates, and forced them into cybercrime and related activities,” he explained.
In a joint special operation carried out by EOCO, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), and National Security, 35 individuals suspected of human trafficking were arrested.
The operation also led to the rescue of 219 persons who had been subjected to forced labor and other inhumane conditions.

Feature: Chinese language gains popularity among Ghanaian students as bilateral ties deepen
A contestant sings a Chinese song during a competition to mark the Chinese Language Day in Accra, Ghana, on April 17, 2025. As the bilateral ties between Ghana and China deepen, Ghana has seen a growing number of Chinese learners who aspire to make a difference in their lives. (Xinhua/Seth)
ACCRA, April 18 (Xinhua) — Afua Ampaw, 13, a second-year junior high school student at the Cornerstone International Academy in Accra, the Ghanaian capital, has been learning Chinese for years.
Her interest was first ignited while watching Chinese movies and dramas. “As I started watching the dramas, I realized how beautiful Chinese culture and language are, and I took an interest in them,” Ampaw told Xinhua on Thursday during a competition to mark the Chinese Language Day at the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana (CIUG).
“When I found out about the Confucius Institutes, I decided to take my first step, to come here and learn Chinese,” she said.
After enrolling in the course, Ampaw quickly proved to be a fast language learner. “I was able to write 50 characters after learning them within one month.”
She said the Chinese language has bolstered her understanding of Chinese culture, including the values of diligence, honesty, and discipline, which have benefited her immensely in life.
Moreover, she is eyeing more opportunities. “You can have the chance to go and study in China. There are many business opportunities as China-Africa relations continue to grow and strengthen,” she said.
Ampaw is one of numerous Chinese language enthusiasts in Ghana who have benefited from the expansion of language education programs provided by three Confucius Institutes across the country. As the bilateral ties between Ghana and China deepen, Ghana has seen a growing number of Chinese learners who aspire to make a difference in their lives.
Nyameba Akuoko-Acheampong, a 10-year-old learner from the Rising Sun Montessori School, won the first prize in her category.
“I was overjoyed when my name came up as the winner. I urge all my peers to encourage themselves and get involved with learning Chinese, because it can take them far in life,” she said.
Jonathan Atandzi, headteacher of the Rising Sun Montessori School, said the school has seen year-on-year improvement in learners’ assimilation of the language due to the dedication of the educators and the perseverance of the learners.
According to him, this marks the second consecutive year the school has won an award in the same category. “These awards show how serious we are with the language and the curriculum that we run in our schools.”
“For logistics, we don’t have much of a problem. Since we collaborate with the Confucius Institute, they always support us with qualified teachers to teach the language at our school,” Atandzi added.
Clement Appah, Ghanaian director of the Confucius Institute at the CIUG, expressed optimism about the growing enthusiasm for Chinese language learning in Ghana.
“The fact that more and more people are getting interested in learning Chinese means that we have more people potentially able to communicate in Chinese and able to represent Ghana when it is needed,” he said. “I expect that the Ghana-China relationship will continue to improve, and more and more people will get to understand the Chinese culture.”

100 Days of President Mahama: The faces behind the early gains
Ghana’s new President, H E John Dramani Mahama has marked his first 100 days (on Wednesday, April 16, 2025) in office with a wave of commendable achievements.
The pace has been swift, the direction clear, and the results – at least so far – reassuring to many Ghanaians. But behind every successful leader is a team, and several ministers have emerged as key drivers of this early success.
From bold digital reforms to economic relief, environmental protection to legal accountability, these individuals have begun shaping a presidency that seems ready to deliver.

One name that stands tall in this early chapter is Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation.
He is, notably, the only minister to have held a comprehensive press briefing outlining his vision and roadmap. And true to his word, he has already launched the ambitious One Million Coders Program — an initiative designed to equip one million Ghanaian youth with relevant digital skills.
Recognizing the burden of high data costs on citizens, he has also inaugurated a committee to find sustainable solutions to reduce the cost of data in Ghana.
His in-depth understanding of the telecom space, digital ecosystem, and tech landscape has strongly vindicated the president’s choice.
As the administration hits this symbolic 100-day milestone, Samuel Nartey George stands out as a true pacesetter.

Equally impactful has been Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister for Finance. One might call him one of the president’s “mighty men” — and rightly so. He has introduced what is now dubbed the Relief Budget of the Fourth Republic, removing taxes that had become Equally impactful has been Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister for Finance.
One might call him one of the president’s “mighty men” — and rightly so.
He has introduced what is now dubbed the Relief Budget of the Fourth Republic, removing taxes that had become thorns in the flesh of businesses and the general public, including the COVID-19 levy, betting tax, E-levy, and the emissions tax.
In addition to that, he’s ensured the payment of accumulated arrears owed to nursing trainees and secured a permanent funding for the Free SHS program — a cornerstone of educational equity in the country.
His international recognition was cemented when he was recently elected as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development.
Dr Forson has proven his mettle and continues to hold the fort with integrity and competence.

In the natural resources sector, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has taken a firm stand against illegal mining, or galamsey.
His proactive interventions have led to the retrieval of some forest reserves, and he has unveiled the Blue Water Guards — a youth-led taskforce mobilized to defend Ghana’s water bodies.
While Ghanaians wish for faster results in curbing illegal mining, there is no doubt that Armah Kofi Buah is working with dedication and tact, and his impact is beginning to show.

The pursuit of justice and accountability has also been central to the administration’s agenda, and Dr Dominic Ayine, Minister for Attorney General and Justice, has taken clear steps to walk that talk.
Following the president’s promise to hold former government officials accountable for misappropriation of funds, Dr. Ayine has held a press briefing to update the nation on ongoing investigations and legal actions.
His calm demeanor, deep understanding of legal intricacies, and swift responses are earning him praise both within legal circles and among ordinary Ghanaians. He is fast becoming a symbol of the president’s commitment to good governance and rule of law.

In the defense ministry, Dr Edward Omane Boamah has been steadily working to reposition the military in the fight against illegal mining.
His consistent updates on military operations, especially via his social media platforms, have given the public a rare window into the role the armed forces are playing in the national effort to reclaim our lands and rivers.
His swift move to procure food supplies for the military and his openness about the inherited food debt left by the previous administration have also been well received.
His transparency and timely communication have brought a new level of public engagement to the ministry.

And then there is Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a standout in Foreign Affairs and International cooperation. As the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the first 100 days of the Government have seen a dynamic shift in Ghana’s diplomatic posture.
He has strengthened bilateral ties, and restored a level of pride and energy in Ghana’s Foreign Missions. His engagements have been strategic, people-centred, and rooted in Ghana’s broader development goals.
Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa has also become a voice for ethical leadership, advocating for accountability, and ensuring that Ghana’s image abroad reflects the discipline and progress happening at home.
Together, these ministers have formed the backbone of the president’s early success. Their actions show a government not just committed to power, but to purpose — one that understands the urgency of the moment and the expectations of the people.
The first 100 days are only the beginning. But if this pace is maintained, and the vision remains clear, Ghanaians may well be witnessing the birth of a transformative era.

‘Your silence over Mahama’s dismissal of workers will come back to bite you’
NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua
The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has taken a swipe at the leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) for remaining silent following the dismissal of some public sector workers by the new government.
According to reports, several public sector workers whose employment had been confirmed by the Public Services Commission have had their contracts terminated by the administration of President John Mahama, which took office on January 7, 2025.
The decision has sparked public outcry, with critics arguing that such terminations set a troubling precedent.
Speaking in an interview on Asaasepa Radio, Justin Frimpong Kodua expressed disappointment in the TUC and PSWU for failing to defend the affected workers.
“TUC should be very careful, and the Public Services Workers Union should also be careful,” Kodua warned. “The NDC, by this precedent, wants us to believe that no public sector worker has job security. It is a dangerous trend, and the silence of the TUC and PSWU is alarming. Some of those affected were recruited as far back as 2018, confirmed by the Public Services Commission, and have been serving diligently—even as members of the PSWU. Yet, following the change in government, their employment has been terminated, and the union remains silent.”
He further posed a question to the union leaders:
“If the government changes in 2028 and you, as Secretary General of the TUC or Chairman of the PSWU, have your own employment terminated, will you then have the moral authority to speak out?”
Kodua stressed that political affiliation should not influence what is right or wrong:
“When something is wrong, it doesn’t matter whether it’s done by the NPP or NDC—it must be called out. The current path being charted by the NDC is dangerous and will adversely affect the country’s future. We expect the TUC to show leadership by laying down tools, declaring a strike, and demanding the reinstatement of the dismissed workers. That is the kind of leadership we want to see.”

Ghana National Fire Service intensifies measures to curb market fires

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is ramping up its efforts to prevent fires in markets across the country, acknowledging that some incidents are the result of deliberate actions.
According to the Divisional Officer II and Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Desmond Ackah the Service is collaborating with market authorities to strengthen fire safety, particularly in areas with wooden infrastructure, which are more susceptible to fire outbreaks.
In an interview on JoyNews on Friday, DO II Ackah highlighted the need for modern fire prevention measures, including the installation of early warning systems and the construction of adequate escape routes to ease evacuation in the event of a fire.
He noted that congestion in many markets significantly hampers emergency response efforts.
One of the persistent challenges facing the GNFS, he added, is limited access to water due to an insufficient number of fire hydrants—a responsibility managed by the Ghana Water Company.
“We are in discussions with Ghana Water to ensure the provision of more hydrants,” he said.
He mentioned that the GNFS is also stepping up public education efforts. Officers are conducting outreach visits to educate traders on the safe handling of flammable materials and other fire prevention practices.
DO II Ackah called on the public to cooperate with fire service personnel during these visits.
Through enhanced partnerships, education, and infrastructure improvements, the GNFS aims to significantly reduce the frequency and impact of market fires nationwide.
