An Accra High Court has summoned the Founder and Leader of Heaven Way Church, Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, to reappear for a final ruling in an ongoing legal battle involving Prophet Emmanuel Appiah Enim, also known as Osofo Biblical.

In a video circulating on social media, Agradaa’s lawyer revealed that following a court session on July 7, 2025, the presiding judge ordered that she be brought from Nsawam Prison, where she is currently serving a 15-year sentence for charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretences.

According to the legal team, this separate case revolves around Agradaa’s alleged unlawful broadcast of a private video showing Osofo Biblical engaged in a sexual act with a married woman.

“Today was scheduled for the ruling on that particular case. However, we respectfully requested that, considering she is in lawful custody, the court adjourn proceedings to a later date,” Agradaa’s lawyer explained.

He added, “An order has been made so that she will be brought from Nsawam Prison, so on the adjourned date she will be available. This is a different case from what happened on Thursday. This is a case between Mama Pat and a complaint called Osofo Appiah.”

Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to July 30, 2025, with the court ordering that Agradaa be present in person for the final ruling.

How this case started

The case dates back to 2021, when Nana Agradaa became embroiled in a heated public dispute with Prophet Emmanuel Appiah Enim.

What started as a typical war of words on social media took a serious turn when Agradaa allegedly aired nude photos of the prophet during a broadcast on Thunder TV (now Today’s TV), a television station she owned.

She was subsequently arrested in 2022 and charged under Section 67(1) of the Cybersecurity Act (Act 1038) for the non-consensual distribution of intimate images.

The matter intensified in July 2024, when she appeared in court on additional charges of possessing and distributing indecent material.

Reports claimed that not only did she share the images during a live broadcast, but also used them to market a product, a certain type of bitters.

Agradaa was later granted bail set at GH¢200,000, with the condition of providing two justified sureties.

Every Ghanaian must contribute to nation-building

0

His Eminence Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Social Sciences, has called on Ghanaians to actively participate in the nation’s development, stressing that building a prosperous country is a collective responsibility — not one that rests solely on the shoulders of the President or government.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Monday, July 7, Cardinal Turkson underscored the importance of civic duty and urged all citizens to recognise their role in shaping Ghana’s future.

“Ghana is not the President. The nation and the country Ghana are not just the President, his ministers, the cabinet, the government, and the people who elected them. Different people are elected to different positions,” he said.

“It is just fair to recognise that nation-building is not only the task of the leadership of the nation but also the citizens and members of the nation.”

Cardinal Turkson stressed that while the state is tasked with promoting development and governance, its efforts can only bear fruit if individuals also see themselves as active contributors.

“Living in a nation or state is the relational context in which we develop everything that we have. On occasions like July 1, we must recognise that everyone has a role to play. Nation-building is not the task of only leadership and government, but everybody,” he added.

He concluded by encouraging Ghanaians to take their civic duties seriously — from daily contributions to national life to participating thoughtfully in the electoral process by choosing leaders who reflect their values and aspirations.

Cardinal Turkson’s remarks came just days after he addressed the nation during the National Day of Prayer on July 1, an initiative launched by President John Dramani Mahama to promote unity, spiritual reflection, and renewed hope amid the country’s socio-economic challenges.

The event brought together a wide cross-section of Ghanaian society, including religious leaders, political figures, civil society organisations, and the general public. It featured interfaith prayers centred on peace, economic recovery, national cohesion, and moral renewal.

While the Christian interdenominational service took place at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, the Islamic prayer session was held at the National Mosque, also in the capital.

National Day of Prayer was a collective effort – Archbishop Duncan-Williams

0

The Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has clarified that Ghana’s inaugural National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, held on July 1, 2025, though initiated by President John Dramani Mahama, was the product of extensive consultations and collaboration across religious and traditional leadership.

The maiden edition of the National Day of Prayer aimed to promote national unity, spiritual reflection, and renewed hope amid Ghana’s ongoing socio-economic challenges.

The event brought together religious leaders, political figures, civil society organisations, and citizens from all walks of life. It featured interfaith prayers focused on peace, economic recovery, moral renewal, and national cohesion.

Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV with Bernard Avle on Monday, July 7, Archbishop Duncan-Williams noted that while the initiative came from the President, its planning and execution involved broad-based input from key national stakeholders.

“I believe that this time around, looking back to then, and now, I believe that one of the initiatives of the President and the team working was to mobilise all, the religious council, from the Catholic Bishops, the Christian Council, Pentecostal Council and get all the bodies involved and even involving the Muslims, our brothers, we brought all of them,” he said.

He further emphasised that the process was not unilateral but inclusive, ensuring the participation of traditional authorities and the Muslim community.

“There were a lot of consultations that took place. They went to consult the traditional rulers and also the chief Imams and all, then the religious bodies. So it wasn’t just the decision of the President, it was his initiative. But the strategy was to get everyone involved. All stakeholders must be involved,” he added.

The National Day of Prayer was marked with a Christian interdenominational service held at the forecourt of the State House, while the Islamic prayer session took place at the National Mosque in Accra.

He was a loyal patriot – Bawumia mourns Akwatia MP Ernest Kumi

Dr Bawumia mourning the loss of Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi Dr Bawumia mourning the loss of Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi.

In a post social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter on Monday, July 7, the 2024 Flagbearer of the NPP described the late lawmaker as a faithful politician to the course of the party.

“I have received with sadness the passing of Hon. Ernest Yaw Kumi, MP Akwatia Constituency. Ernest was a loyal patriot. My condolences to the immediate family. May his soul rest in peace, Dr Bawumia wrote.

Meanwhile, a brother of the late MP, has recounted the heartbreaking events leading to the sudden death of the young legislator, describing him as a “pillar in the family” whose passing has left the entire family devastated.

According to him, Ernest had travelled and returned early this morning, but soon after began complaining of severe heart pains.

“He came this morning and complained of pains in his heart. We rushed him to the hospital, and he was given a drip, but he was unresponsive. Later, his wife was informed that he had passed,” he told journalists on Monday, July 7, 2025.

He revealed that about two weeks ago, Ernest had planned to visit Akwatia but couldn’t make the trip, asking someone to represent him instead.

“Two weeks ago, he was supposed to come to Akwatia, but he couldn’t make it, so he asked someone to come in his stead, so, it’s been a while since he came over,” he added.

The grieving brother described Ernest Kumi as more than just a politician, he was the strength of their family.

“Indeed, we have lost a gem. He was a pillar in the family. As a family, we are devastated by the loss,” he said.

The late MP, affectionately known as the “Akwatia Star Boy,” passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025.

Ernest Kumi’s tenure was overshadowed by relentless litigation – Sammi Awuku

0

Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has paid tribute to the late Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, describing his brief tenure in Parliament as one marred by relentless litigation that robbed him of the chance to serve his constituents fully.

In an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Monday, July 7, Mr. Awuku reflected on the legal turmoil that overshadowed Kumi’s time in office, describing the constant court cases as emotionally and mentally exhausting for the young legislator.

“I can tell you for a fact that the gentleman was just stressed,” he said. “Today, it is the High Court undermining his victory, and pulling him to the High Court. The next day, they are pulling him to the Supreme Court. My brother did not even enjoy the benefit of serving his people with a clean conscience and a clear mind.”

“He never had the benefit of concentrating on his people. Every day, he was being dragged to court. It was very draining for him, and I quite remember one time he said to me; Commander, I am tired,” Mr. Awuku added.

According to Awuku, the late MP had also confided plans to launch a foundation to support the people of Akwatia, but repeated legal challenges delayed its rollout.

Ernest Yaw Kumi, a first-time MP elected on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), died on Monday, July 7, 2025. His passing came just months into his tenure, following his controversial victory in the fiercely contested December 2024 general elections.

Akwatia, located in the Eastern Region, emerged as one of the major battlegrounds in the 2024 elections. Mr. Kumi’s win was immediately contested by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which alleged electoral irregularities and vote-buying.

The dispute was taken to court, with the Koforidua High Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Senyo Amedahe, issuing an interim injunction restraining Kumi from holding himself out as MP. Kumi’s subsequent defiance of the injunction led to contempt proceedings and a bench warrant for his arrest.

However, in a dramatic turn, the Supreme Court on June 11, 2025, overturned the High Court’s ruling. It quashed the contempt conviction and barred Justice Amedahe from issuing any further sentencing, marking a significant legal win for Kumi just weeks before his passing.

Ernest Kumi’s death has left a void not only within the New Patriotic Party but also in the Parliament of Ghana, where he served despite the many hurdles.

His colleagues, including Sammi Awuku, remember him as a fighter who, even under pressure, remained committed to his duties and dreams for Akwatia.

Mahama has returned with vision and determination

0

The Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has voiced strong confidence in President John Dramani Mahama’s capacity to offer credible and transformational leadership during his tenure.

Speaking during an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV with Bernard Avle on Monday, July 7, Archbishop Duncan-Williams commended President Mahama’s renewed sense of purpose, describing him as both a visionary and a selfless leader.

He emphasised that the President’s return to office is grounded in experience and a clear resolve to learn from the past and chart a more impactful course for Ghana’s development.

“When you look at some of the crises on our continent, it just doesn’t make sense. I don’t want to mention names of countries, but it just doesn’t make sense for us to retrogress with all that we have. And this country and continent have had some great leaders, and still do in certain areas,” he said.

“And there’s no reason why this continent and our country, Ghana, must not thrive and flourish. There’s no reason why our currency cannot do better. With the gold reserves we have and the oil and cocoa, we can do better.”

He continued, “We just need visionary leaders and selfless leaders. And I believe that President John Dramani is a visionary leader, a selfless leader, because he has been here before. He has learned from his past mistakes, and he has come back with a drive and passion and a determination to correct the mistakes of the past and make a difference and to go down in history as one who walked and came back with a difference.”

The Archbishop’s endorsement comes at a time when the country is focused on inclusive governance, economic stability, and renewed faith in political leadership. His comments add to the national discourse around leadership accountability and the expectations of the current administration.

Suspended CJ Torkornoo files judicial review challenging unanimous dismissal of her injunction application

The suspended Chief Justice (CJ), Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has filed for a judicial review challenging the unanimous dismissal of the application she filed to halt her suspension and the ongoing impeachment proceedings against her.

A five-member panel of the court, presided over by the Acting Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, ruled that Justice Torkornoo’s application had no merit and subsequently dismissed it.

A court document shared by The Law Platform showed that the suspended Chief had filed a judicial review challenging the judgment of the court way back in June 2025.

Justice Torkornoo, in her review application, asked the court for virtually the same reliefs as in the application that was dismissed.

She asked the court to declare all the proceedings of the five-member committee hearing three petitions for her removal, which is chaired by Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, null and void, as it violates her human rights.

She also asked the court to declare that she had not been given copies of the three petitions she is being tried on, which, according to her, makes the ongoing hearing “arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable.”

The grounds she listed for the judicial review included:

That the Respondents are not properly and legally constituted under Article 156 to conduct the quasi-judicial proceedings required of an Article 146 Committee.

That the Respondents violated the audi alteram partem rule of natural justice and Article 282 of the 1992 Constitution on 15th May 2025, and further acted arbitrarily, unreasonably and capriciously in violation of Article 23 and Article 296 of the 1992 Constitution, leading to the conduct of void proceedings on that date.

That the Respondents have, by failing to provide to the parties the Petition, Answer, and Prima Facie determination that are to form the basis for the enquiry, violated all constitutional requirements for the conduct of a full, impartial enquiry into their alleged terms of reference, thereby rendering the proceedings they are conducting null and void.

That the Respondents have, by choosing to regulate the proceedings affecting the Applicant as adversarial litigation between the parties and subject to the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2004, CI 47, without first serving on the parties authenticated pleadings that are to form the basis for the adversarial litigation, violated all requirements for the conduct of adversarial litigation, thereby rendering the proceedings they are conducting null and void.

The document also showed that the Supreme Court is yet to set a date for the application to be moved.

Kejetia petty traders appeal to government over store allocations in redevelopment project

0

The Kejetia Petty Traders Association has held a solemn memorial service to mark the 10th anniversary of the passing of over 100 of its members, many of whom reportedly died while struggling to make a living under harsh and unsafe trading conditions.

The memorial, held within the Kejetia enclave, brought together traders, bereaved families, and association leaders who used the occasion to highlight their ongoing plight.

Speaking to the media, the Chairman of the Association, Emmanuel Kwarteng, lamented the decline in their membership from 2,283 to just 793 due to the difficult circumstances many have faced over the years.

He revealed that out of the 793 current members, only 160 traders have been allocated permanent spaces in the redeveloped Kejetia Market, while the remaining 632 members continue to trade in unsafe roadside and open spaces, exposed to the elements.

“This frustration, hardship, and the lack of proper places to trade have sadly contributed to the deaths of over 100 of our members. It is painful and heartbreaking,” he said.

Kwarteng stressed that the traders are lawful and significant contributors to Kumasi’s development, consistently paying daily KMA trading fees of GH¢3.

“We have never defaulted in paying our trading tickets. We deserve better. We are appealing to the government, President John Dramani Mahama, the Ashanti Regional Minister, and the Kumasi Mayor to intervene,” he pleaded.

Some traders who spoke during the event shared emotional stories of the daily risks they face.

“We trade in the rain, under the sun, and sometimes narrowly escape accidents on the roadside. All we ask is a safe and decent place to sell our goods,” one member said.

The association is urging authorities to consider their long-standing contribution to the city and ensure they are fairly included in the allocation of stores under the Kejetia Redevelopment Phase Two Project.

“Commander!” Never knew this was a final goodbye call bro.

You sit directly behind me in Parliament.

Now, turning to watch that empty seat is a sight I will never get used to.

That chair held your presence. It shared our laughter, quiet exchanges, and memories only true colleagues and friends understand. Now I turn, and you will no longer be there to catch up on issues and to share moments.

Now, I find myself grasping for words, struggling to accept a truth my heart refuses to hold.

Death has a way of showing up uninvited, tearing through the ordinary with silence and finality.

It doesn’t wait for goodbyes. It doesn’t care for schedules or promises.

You were a brother, friend, fighter, and a force.

To think that your journey ends here feels cruel and unreal.

But maybe that’s the mystery of life, beautiful, unpredictable, and fleeting.

Rest well, my Akwatia Star Boy!

Your memory lives on in the hearts that carry your light”.

‘Made in Taadi’ will always be free despite losses – Kofi Kinaata

Ghanaian Highlife musician and songwriter Kofi Kinaata Ghanaian Highlife musician and songwriter Kofi Kinaata

Ghanaian Highlife musician and songwriter Kofi Kinaata has shed light on how he finances his annual concert, ‘Made in Taadi’.

Speaking in an interview on Starr FM on July 6, 2025, Kinaata revealed that despite often running at a loss, his motivation for organising the show is to give back to the people of Takoradi, not to make money.

“Sometimes, your focus is on the happiness of the people and the kind of entertainment vibe it brings to Takoradi, so you don’t even focus on how much it costs. It’s only after everything that you realize you’ve made a loss,” he explained.

Kinaata acknowledged that while sponsorship does come in, it often covers only a fraction of the total cost.

“Sponsorships come, but you know how event planning goes, we end up covering 80%, and the sponsorship only handles about 20%,” he said.

When asked about potentially charging attendees for the show, Kinaata was firm that ‘Made in Taadi’ will always remain a free event.

He emphasised that while he may consider hosting ticketed concerts in the future, they would be branded differently.

“We can have paid shows, but not ‘Made in Taadi.’ That name stands for something special, t’s meant to give back to the people of Takoradi.

“If we ever have to charge for it, we’d have to explain why, because it has always been free,” he said.

Kinaata also expressed hope for future government or regional sponsorship, noting that the scale and impact of the event have outgrown what he can handle alone.

“Going forward, if we could get strong support from the government or the region, if they see that this has become too big for just Kofi Kinaata, it would be great for them to come on board. That way, I wouldn’t have to charge people, which would go against the purpose of the show,” he added.

NPP MP for Akwatia Ernest Yaw Kumi was reported dead on Monday, July 7, 2025 NPP MP for Akwatia Ernest Yaw Kumi was reported dead on Monday, July 7, 2025

The death of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi, has been confirmed by some members of the party following reports of his demise on Monday, July 7, 2025.

The MP’s demise has come as a surprise to many because there have not been any reports of him being ill or involved in any form of accident.

In fact, just days before his demise, the MP had some media engagements.

A viral video has shown the MP in an interview on Adom TV just this past Friday, July 7,  2025.

In the said video, the MP is heard lambasting the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the re‑run of the parliamentary election for some polling stations in the Ablekuma South Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

Citing the trial he went through over his legitimacy to represent the people of Akwatia, Ernest Kumi said that the NPP can take all the seats in Parliament if they want to.

“What is wrong? Why are we conceding to this? Must the NDC necessarily win all the seats in Parliament?”

“If the NPP is going to listen to me—if it were up to me—just as we did in 1992, we should leave all the seats for them; all of us should leave Parliament for them to take every seat,” he said.

He added, “Look at what they are doing to the rest of us. Look at the fight I have fought to get here. Look at what they are putting these women through. A boycott could even have been better.”

‘John Mahama’s administration taking undeserved credit for oil discoveries’

0

MP for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah MP for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah

The Minority in Parliament has stated that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) cannot take credit for recent oil discoveries that, according to them, were made under the previous Akufo-Addo administration.

Collins Adomako-Mensah, Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Energy Committee says the Akoma and Eban-1X oil discoveries were made in 2019 and 2021, respectively, both during former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s tenure.

He made the remarks while addressing a press conference on behalf of the Minority caucus.

The lawmaker indicated that ENI Ghana, operator of the Cape Three Points (CTP) Block 4, issued formal notices of discovery to the then Ministry of Energy, the Petroleum Commission, and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) in accordance with the petroleum agreement.

Adomako-Mensah accused the government of deliberately taking credit for discoveries it had no role in.

“ENI, as required by the CTP Block 4 Petroleum Agreement, formally issued two separate notices of discovery to the then Ministry of Energy, the Petroleum Commission and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation. These discoveries were also announced or published by sections of the Ghanaian media.

“The Minority wonders how the Mahama administration, which had nothing to do with the drilling of the Akoma and Eban exploration wells as well as approval of the appraisal programme of the two discoveries, will all of a sudden claim that the results of an Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration-approved appraisal programme that are a result of commerciality are a credit to it.”

He added that “In Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry, it is a contract or operator that has a duty of informing the state of the outcome of any approved appraisal programme. That is what ENI did recently.”

“The Mahama administration, for self-serving purposes, has sought to covet this normal reporting to a funfair whose cause is attributable to it, even though it is barely seven months in office,” he added.

Shocking details emerge about Ernest Yaw Kumi’s death [Listen]

0

It has emerged that the late Akwatia Member of Parliament (MP), Ernest Yaw Kumi, complained of chest pains before his sudden death on Monday, July 7, 2025.

This revelation was made by his close friend and former District Chief Executive for Denkyembour, Seth Birikorang, during an interview on Asempa FM’s .

According to Mr. Birikorang, the two had travelled together to an event in Takoradi on Friday, July 4, at the invitation of Effia MP Isaac Yaw Boamah Nyarko. They returned to Accra on Sunday evening.

“After we got back to Accra on Sunday, around 6:30 pm, he dropped me off at Mallam Junction, and I took a taxi home,” he recalled.

“He even teased me to be careful and to pray no one takes a photo of me in a taxi and posts it online just six months after we lost power. We laughed, and before parting ways, he reminded me we had a meeting at 2 pm the next day and told me to call him if I didn’t hear from him.”

However, Mr. Birikorang said around 9:00 am on Monday, he received a distressing call from Mr. Kumi’s wife, informing him that the MP had taken ill and was rushed to the Lister Hospital.

“I was told he had been rushed to the hospital around 2:00 am. The doctors tried their best to stabilise him while waiting for a specialist to arrive. When I got there, I met his wife, his mother, and the doctor at the emergency ward—but everyone went silent when they saw me.”

He continued tearfully, “I was confused. Nobody said a word until the doctor asked his wife if he could speak to me. When she agreed, he told me that Yaw was no longer responding to treatment. I suggested trying another drug, but that’s when they broke the news—he was gone.”

Mr. Birikorang further narrated that the MP had told his wife between 9:00 and 10:00 am that he wanted to rest. She left him alone for a while, only to be informed moments later that he had passed.

“How can a good man die in this painful manner? Someone should tell me this is not true,” he cried.

Mr. Kumi’s sudden death has shocked Parliament and the nation. Many, including political opponents and close friends, have described him as a calm, intelligent, and promising lawmaker.

We’re streamlining the galamsey fight, too many are running helter skelter – Mahama

0

President John Mahama has expressed deep concern over the growing disorder in the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

He revealed that his office has had to urgently intervene to restore order among key stakeholders.

Speaking during a meeting with the Council of State at the Presidency on Monday, July 7, the President described the illegal mining situation as “complex” and warned that the current lack of coordination among enforcement actors was undermining the government’s efforts.

“Just this morning, I had to summon all the stakeholders in the anti-galamsey fight to my office,” he disclosed.

“Everybody is running helter-skelter and doing whatever they want. It has led to the rise of illegal task forces that are taking advantage of the situation.”

President Mahama explained that the emergency meeting was convened to “streamline their activities” and put an end to the chaos that has allowed some to exploit the system under the guise of enforcement.

“We held a very good meeting and we are streamlining things,” he said.

Galamsey remains one of Ghana’s most pressing environmental and governance challenges, contributing to deforestation, river pollution, and community displacement.

President Mahama’s comments come amid mounting public pressure for decisive leadership in addressing the menace.

The President also used the occasion to reflect on his administration’s six-month milestone since taking office in January 2025, noting that the pace of governance had been intense.

“It’s exactly six months since we were sworn into office. It looks like we’ve been in office for almost two years already because of how quickly things have been moving,” he said.

He announced that the Minister of Finance would soon present the mid-year budget review to Parliament, which would provide a clearer picture of the government’s economic performance and development priorities over the period.

President Mahama assured the Council of State that a full statutory meeting would be held after the mid-year budget presentation to assess the administration’s progress and change its focus if needed.

‘You’re not doing anyone a favour!’ – MC Yaa Yeboah criticises King Paluta’s outburst

Entertainment critic, MC Yaa Yeboah Entertainment critic, MC Yaa Yeboah

Entertainment critic MC Yaa Yeboah has expressed disappointment in rapper King Paluta following his behaviour at the All-White Boat Party held in London on June 29, 2025.

Speaking during the July 4, 2025, episode of United Showbiz, MC Yaa Yeboah stated that King Paluta appears to have “no personality” beyond his music and that his actions reflect a lack of character and professionalism.

According to Yaa Yeboah, she did some checks that revealed that the event was themed around raising funds for underprivileged children and women affected by abusive relationships.

She then criticised King Paluta for verbally abusing a woman at the event, stating that his behaviour went against the very purpose of the fundraiser.

MC Yaa Yeboah also dismissed King Paluta’s claim that he attended the event “for his fans,” labelling it as misleading.

“You were there because of your talent, and that talent is supposed to put food on your table. Guess what? If you don’t go and perform, you don’t get paid. You’re not doing anyone a favour, you’re working,” she said.

What happened?

What began as an electrifying night aboard the All White Boat Party turned awkward when Ghanaian rapper King Paluta unexpectedly paused his performance to confront a seemingly unimpressed female guest in the audience.

The incident was captured in a viral video: Paluta stopped mid-performance, visibly agitated, and delivered a harsh rebuke over her facial expressions.

Despite efforts by nearby attendees to calm him, Paluta insisted he needed to “free his mind” before resuming with his performance.

The footage sparked a wave of criticism online. Many viewers condemned his actions as unprofessional, emphasizing that artists must maintain composure, even when faced with disengaged audience members.

Others cautioned that such behavior could harm his reputation if repeated.

'From 4,400 to 50 is a joke' – Bright Simons slams revision of 5G sites target

0

Brights Simons slams government's revision of 5G sites target Brights Simons slams government’s revision of 5G sites target

The Vice President of IMANI-Africa, Bright Simons, has expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s decision to revise Next Gen Infraco (NGIC)’s target of building 4400 5G sites to 50.

The policy analyst said that awarding the sole responsibility to NGIC to handle 5G in Ghana was disingenuous, although some telcos like MTN were already planning to build over 1000 5G sites.

Last week, the Minister of Communications, Innovations and Digital Technology, Sam George, announced that NGIC had built 16 sites as of the end of June, despite the 350 target.

The policy analyst said, “Even though the previous government promised that NGIC would build 4400 cell sites by 2028 (forecast of at least 750 by end 2025; revised to a target of 350 by June 2025), we are now told that 16 have been built. 16!

“That’s not even what boggles the mind. The new ICT Minister has now revised the target to 50 5G sites by the end of 2025. 50 out of the 3-year target of 4400! What a joke!” Simons said in an X post on July 5, 2025.

The minister stated that an agreement has been reached with the Next-Generation Infrastructure Company (NGIC) after the company failed to meet its initial deadline of June 2025.

He noted that by the end of the year, NGIC is expected to have at least 50 5G sites operational across Accra and Kumasi.

“As of July 3, NGIC has deployed 16 5G-ready sites and has received full National Communications Authority approval for its core network infrastructure,” he said.

Sam George firmly emphasised that there will be no further extensions to the deadline.

“We’ve agreed with NGIC that there will be no further extension to these rollout deadlines. If the company fails to meet the Q4 2025 deadline, the ministry will immediately initiate a review and possibly renegotiate the license terms,” he stressed.

Providing a background, Bright Simons said last year, the government forced all telecom companies in Ghana deploying 5G to stop in their tracks.

According to him, even though MTN was already working on deploying 1,322 sites, it too had to stop because the government said it did not want any telco to dominate in 5G as it happened wth 4G.

“So, instead, a new entity called NGIC would build the 5G cell sites and lease them out to the telcos. This obviously made no sense, as even for 3G & 4G, there are companies leasing sites to telcos, but that has not stopped domination. Richer companies can simply lease more sites.

“Despite the incongruity of the policy, Ghana’s katanomic curse saw to it that there would be no serious pushback. The new 5G monopoly was imposed. This was even though we proved that it WAS NOT TRUE that big global companies like Reliance & Nokia were part of NGIC. Contrary to claims made by the government,” he noted.

Simons said, despite the discrepancies with the deployment of the 5G network, the current government, “the new government is reluctant to fix the clear policy mess.”

“When Kenya now has almost 2000 5G sites? And Safaricom alone has almost 1200 of that? When Togocom launched 5G in Togo as far back as 2020? Almost every corner of Dakar, Senegal now has 5G. South Africa, the continental leader, currently boasts of a 5G penetration of ~50% of the population.

“Ghana, which was forecast by GSMA to hit 20% 5G penetration this year, can only boast a total penetration of ZERO percent. Nearly a 1/3rd of African countries are now expected to overtake Ghana in 5G coverage in 2025,” he noted.

New CDD Report finds “worrying levels” of democracy capture in Africa

0

By Edward Acquah, GNA

Accra, July 7, GNA- A new report by the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has found “worrying levels” of democracy capture in Africa.

The findings of the Democracy Capture (DECAM) Index Report, disseminated at a workshop in Accra on Monday, found that 60 per cent of agencies in ten studied African countries were experiencing some level of democracy capture by a perpetrator.

The Report measured the extent of democracy capture using a standardised assessment process in 370 institutions and agencies in Botswana, Senegal, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Mozambique, Kenya, Benin, Tanzania, and DR Congo.

The DECAM Report said state capture occurred when “a few individuals or sections of a supposedly democratic polity are able to systematically appropriate to themselves the institutions and processes as well as dividends of democratic governance”

Whereas Bostwana and Senegal recorded low levels of democracy capture (between 19 and 25 per cent), South Africa and Ghana recorded medium levels (between 28 and 35 per cent), with Nigeria and Mozambique recorded high levels of capture (between 66 and 71 per cent).

Kenya, Benin, Tanzania, and DR Congo recorded very high levels of democracy capture, with the countries rated between 76 to 100 per cent.

In most of the democracies examined (Benin, Dr Congo, Senegal, and Nigeria), the Report found that the Chief Executive (president) “is the key perpetrator” of democracy capture.

The Report said “no country should be considered immune” from democracy capture and recommended the design of appropriate tools to resist the phenomenon.

Dr John Osae-Kwapong, Democracy and Development Fellow, CDD-Ghana, said perpetrators of democracy capture used the capture for five main purposes –tender limiting democracy, blocking reforms, covering up illegality, and implicating illegality.

“The democracies examined remain very vulnerable to continued or future capture by perpetrators. Even among democracies where agencies are not currently subject to capture, 56 per cent are deemed vulnerable to future and continued capture,” he said.

In the case of Ghana, Dr Osae-Kwapong said the country must explore institutions that were vulnerable to democracy capture and make policy reforms to strengthen those institutions against undue influence and control.

“Now that we are engaged in some constitutional reforms, it is an opportune time for us to see how best we can use this opportunity to address some of the things captured in this report,” he said.

Dr. Kojo Pumpuni Asante, Director, Policy Engagement and Partnerships, CDD-Ghana, said the Report represented a deliberate intervention to counter democracy decline in Africa.

He called on civil society organisations and stakeholders to build solidarity to confront authoritarian rule in Africa.

Pregnant woman beaten into coma over false ‘weed’ claim

0

A three-month pregnant woman, Hannah Tetteh, is fighting for her life at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital after she was brutally assaulted by a man claiming to be a police informant.

The incident occurred at the Kasoa Central Business District in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

According to the victim’s mother, Victoria Saah, the suspect accused Hannah of selling weed, violently attacked her, and even stripped her half-naked before she lost consciousness.

Victoria Saah alleged that after the assault, the man called in a police patrol team from the Central East Regional Police Command and falsely reported that her daughter was involved in drug peddling.

She is now demanding justice for her daughter, insisting Hannah has no ties to any illegal drug trade.

“My daughter is not a weed seller. She’s innocent and now fighting for her life because of this false accusation,” she lamented.

The family is calling on the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and hold the suspect accountable for his actions.

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA), in a coordinated multi-agency operation with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Police Cybercrime Unit, has dismantled a sophisticated cyber fraud syndicate operating from Sasaabi, a community along the Dodowa road in the Greater Accra Region.

The raid, carried out on Thursday, July 3, 2025, involved a 12-member tactical police team led jointly by the Director of Operations of the Cybercrime unit of the Ghana Police Service and some senior CSA officials. The operation resulted in the arrest of 25 Nigerian nationals, all of whom were suspected of involvement in large-scale cybercrime activities.

The joint operation team confiscated over 40 laptops and 25 mobile phones, believed to have been used in orchestrating financial fraud schemes targeting victims both in Ghana and abroad.

The operation was triggered by a distress report received by the Computer Emergency Response Team – Ghana (CERT-GH) from a Nigerian national who claimed he was being held against his will and coerced into engaging in cyber fraud.

The whistleblower provided his mother’s contact in Nigeria, through which his identity was confirmed. Subsequent checks by the CSA’s Law Enforcement Liaison Unit revealed that the individual had been officially declared missing in Nigeria. He alleged that about 20 other individuals were similarly being exploited, prompting urgent cross-border intelligence coordination.

Cyber Security Authority cracks down on cybercrime

“This operation underscores Ghana’s zero-tolerance policy on transnational cybercrime and our firm resolve to protect individuals, both Ghanaians and foreign nationals, who criminal enterprises exploit,” an official at the CSA said on condition of anonymity.

The arrested individuals are currently in police custody as authorities carry out further interrogations and digital forensics on the seized equipment. Investigators are also probing for potential links to larger international cybercrime syndicates.

Parliament mourns sudden loss of MP Ernest Yaw Kumi

0

By Elsie Appiah-Osei

Accra, 07 July, GNA – Parliament buried its order of business on Monday to pay tribute to the sudden passing of the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament ( MP) for Akwatia.

The late Kumi, a first-time MP, was confirmed dead on the Floor of the House during proceedings by Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader, in an official communication.

“Mr Speaker, one of us has been summoned to the Parliament above. This member was a young politician from the Eastern Region, in his first term in this chamber, carrying with him a promise to contribute to the discourse of our democratic enterprise,” the Minority Leader said.

He added that the late MP was known for his intellect, diligence, and vibrant personality.

According to Mr Afenyo-Markin, the late MP was reportedly in good health over the weekend, actively participating in parliamentary committee work, making his sudden demise shocking to his colleagues.

The Minority Leader recalled his vibrant personality, saying, “He was always there, happy and vibrant. No one can ever say that in his few months in this chamber he was controversial or wronged colleagues. He lived the prayer of this house—a country of righteousness where none shall wrong his neighbour,” he said.

He noted that the late MP was a rising star within the NPP who was a highly accomplished individual, boasting three postgraduate degrees: an MBA in Corporate Governance, an LLB, and an MSc in Defense and International Politics.

The Minority Leader extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the late MP, and his constituents.

On his part, Majority Leader, Mr Mahama Ayariga described the late Kumi as “a young politician from the Eastern region, in his first term in this chamber, carrying with him a promise to contribute to the discourse of the democratic enterprise.”

“Mr Speaker, he was full of promise—promise for the store of knowledge, promise for the store of energy this House needs to sustain itself. To be taken away in the prime of his life is not only a loss to Akwatia but to Ghana as a whole,” Mr Ayariga said.

The House observed a minute of silence to honour the fallen legislator, who left behind a wife and children.

The late Kumi had been in the news recently due to a court case where the Supreme Court quashed a contempt conviction handed down by the Koforidua High Court against him.

He had been convicted for contempt of court after presenting himself to be sworn in as MP despite an interim injunction.

It’s worth noting that the late MP’s legal issues stemmed from a dispute over his election, with a High Court issuing a bench warrant for his arrest after convicting him of contempt. He was accused of disobeying an interim injunction prohibiting him from being sworn in as MP-elect for Akwatia due to an ongoing legal contest over his election.

Afro‑Dancehall Debate: No one man can own it – Bullgod asserts

Bullgod is a popular artiste manager Bullgod is a popular artiste manager

Popular artiste manager Bullgod has added his voice to the debate on the Afro-Dancehall genre and who deserves credit for it.

According to him, although the sound has been labelled and popularised by Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, the credit for its creation cannot be attributed to one person.

Speaking during a recent GhanaWeb X Spaces discussion on the origins and ownership of the genre on July 4, 2025, Bullgod acknowledged that the genre existed long before any one artiste adopted it.

He cited the evolution of Afrobeats, noting that artistes like Osibisa were shaping the sound before Fela Kuti, who later became recognised as its “father” because the wider Nigerian community chose to celebrate him.

“There are lots of people who contributed to making this happen. There’s the producer and a number of artistes who brought this to life.

“So collectively, if we want to say who labelled the sound, yes, I’m sure Stonebwoy, nobody will argue with him. But who founded or originated the sound?” he questioned.

He praised artiste Molly and her hit Shake It To The Max as a collective achievement for the genre and urged stakeholders to “claim this as a collective and stop the individual conversations.”

“It’s divisive and it doesn’t help. This is the time we need to rally around it, harness it, push it, and give everybody who deserves credit their due, because no one man can do everything. No one man. It’s impossible,” he emphasised.

Bullgod warned that unless the industry unites by sharing credit, working collaboratively, and protecting the sound, it risks being taken over by others.

“If we don’t stop this and collectively claim and push it, somebody else or somewhere else will pick it up and run with it,” he cautioned.

Brother of the late MP Ernest Kumi being consoled after breaking down in tears Brother of the late MP Ernest Kumi being consoled after breaking down in tears

A brother of the late Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi, has recounted the heartbreaking events leading to the sudden death of the young legislator, describing him as a “pillar in the family” whose passing has left the entire family devastated.

Ernest Yaw Kumi was a first-time MP for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and had recently been in the news due to legal challenges surrounding his election victory.

Decentralising Zoomlion’s sanitation contracts could hurt investment – UPSA lecturer

A senior academic at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Dr Eric Boachie Yiadom, has cautioned that the government’s plan to review or decentralise sanitation contracts with Zoomlion Ghana Limited could discourage investment and destabilise the waste management sector.

Speaking at the 2025 Environmental and Sustainability Summit organised by B&FT on June 24, 2025, Dr Boachie Yiadom described the move as unfair to Zoomlion, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group.

“We need to understand the cycle of industry. An industry has been built to a certain standard. All we need to do is regulate and reduce monopoly if necessary,” he said.

“But to decentralise and allow those without capacity to enter when huge investments have already been made is simply not fair,” he added.

He noted that when Zoomlion began operations, Ghanaians dubbed it “Borla so Gyata” (Lion of the Dumps), yet over the years, it has grown into a multimillion-dollar enterprise.

“If you take away the job, what happens to the equipment and the people they’ve trained over the years?” he quizzed.

Dr Boachie Yiadom argued that the waste management sector, like the oil industry, requires specialised expertise and cannot be opened up haphazardly.

“You cannot just go into the waste sector without infrastructure or expertise. The industry has evolved. Government should support and modernise companies like Zoomlion, not weaken them.”

He further urged government to offer fiscal incentives to businesses promoting recycling and sustainable practices.

“We talk about sustainability, but are we prepared to back sustainable businesses with tax incentives? That’s what’s missing in this conversation.”

Also speaking at the summit, Dr Glenn Gyimah, General Manager of the Green Transitions Office at Jospong Group, outlined the company’s ongoing pilot project on single-use plastics and PET recycling in partnership with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), UNIDO, and the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology.

“Our plants in Accra are demonstrating how single-use plastics can be converted into pavement bricks, while PET bottles are processed into yarn and high-value fibers,” he explained.

“We’ve proven that our systems work. What we need now is government commitment and assurance of environmental integrity,” Dr Gyimah added.

Dr Gyimah emphasised that the waste sector is capital-intensive and needs long-term protection and partnerships.

“In other countries, the private sector enjoys massive government support, including funding and regulatory protection. That’s what we need here too,” he noted.

He added that Jospong is engaging local and international off-takers to strengthen Ghana’s recycling value chain.

“We are not just managing waste; we are creating value. This industry needs backing, not disruption.”

Opening the summit, Environment Minister Murtala Mohammed stressed the urgency of addressing plastic waste through sustainable urban practices and called for a national forum to unite polluters, producers, and policymakers.

According to the World Bank, Ghana produces about 1.1 million tonnes of plastic waste annually but recycles just 5 percent. The CSIR estimates that over 250,000 tonnes leak into the environment each year, causing severe flooding and pollution.

Dr Boachie Yiadom concluded with a call for coordinated national action saying:

“We must stop dumping the problem elsewhere. We need to coordinate recycling efforts and support institutions that have built expertise and infrastructure. That’s how we’ll attract more investment—not by dismantling what’s already working.”

In 2028, any party can burn pink sheets and demand a rerun – Justin Kodua

Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that in the 2028 election, any party can burn pink sheets and demand a rerun.

The NPP’s General Secretary emphasised that the Electoral Commission’s decision to rerun parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North constituency set a dangerous precedent for Ghana’s democracy.

Ministers must work in harmony with the President – Cardinal Turkson

0

The Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Social Sciences, His Eminence Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, has urged Ghanaian clergy and government appointees to foster unity and work collaboratively with President John Dramani Mahama in advancing national development.

His call came in the context of the inaugural National Day of Prayer, a new initiative designed to promote spiritual reflection, national cohesion, and renewed hope amid Ghana’s ongoing social and economic challenges.

Held on July 1, the event brought together religious leaders, political figures, civil society organisations, and members of the general public. It featured interfaith prayers focused on peace, economic recovery, moral renewal, and unity.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Monday, July 7, Cardinal Turkson reflected on the role of the clergy during the 2024 election season and stressed the need to maintain a strong and united relationship with the President.

“For me, it was important to recognise that all the team that helped the President to do all of this [National Day of Prayer], must recognise their own unity with the President,” he said.

Cardinal Turkson cautioned that both the clergy and ministers must view their responsibilities in relation to the President’s leadership to ensure coherence in governance and national direction.

“Ministers [clergy] must recognise that what they do attains meaning and significance only in relationship with the leader [Mahama]. And so, that point is important for ministers who collaborate with the President to recognise. We do this by sharing in his spirit.

“And in so doing, there must be harmony, communication, whatever adjective you want to use. That union must be there. It’s not each one going his way, otherwise it’s not a united form of governance,” he added.

The National Day of Prayer was observed through a Christian interdenominational service at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, with a Muslim prayer session held simultaneously at the National Mosque, also in the capital.

Dr Bryan Acheampong seeks Kufuor’s blessing for NPP flagbearer bid

Flagbearer aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bryan Acheampong, has paid a courtesy call on former President John Agyekum Kufuor to formally inform him of his presidential ambitions.

Dr Acheampong, explaining the reason behind his visit said it was part of his broader consultations with key personalities and leaders of the party.

He expressed his reverence and appreciation for former President Kufuor, reflecting on their relationship and the pivotal role Kufuor has played in his political journey.

According to him, it would be a disgrace not to formally inform Kufuor of his presidential ambitions in person, and for him to instead hear about it through the media.

“Your Excellency, it will be very difficult and a big disgrace that one of the children you groomed has aspirations to do something and the first time you will hear it is on Peace FM. That will prove that something is wrong somewhere so my team and I decided that no matter what, I have to inform you of my plans.

“Whatever you say is what I will accept because I am still learning from my elders. With your blessings, as a young vibrant man I will like to submit my name to run for the flagbearership position of the party for the 2028 election so that’s why we are here,” he said in a video shared online and sighted by GhanaWeb.

He added, “I have always been trying to find time to visit. A lot of people don’t know that some time back when Suhum elections got very tough, you were then the President and you summoned me to your house and told me to step down due to how chaotic the election was just for peace to reign. I listened to you and stepped down. You also said we should go on and serve the party and that it will get to a point where the party will be greater and will gain power. We have followed and served till now and still going.”

The NPP is scheduled to conduct its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.

Mahama attributes cedi stability to reforms in gold trading sector

0

President John Dramani Mahama, speaking at the launch of the 24-Hour Economy initiative

President John Mahama has credited recent gains in economic stability, particularly the strengthening of the cedi, to reforms introduced in the country’s gold trading sector as part of his administration’s reset agenda.

Speaking at a meeting with the Council of State at the Jubilee House on Monday, July 7, the President highlighted the strategic role the newly established Gold Board has played in streamlining the country’s gold export industry.

According to President Mahama, before the reforms, Ghana was losing significant value from its gold exports, receiving only about half of what it was due.

“We had left a free-for-all in the gold trading industry, and this country was hardly benefiting. In times past, we received only 50% of what we should get from our gold exports,” he said.

He explained that the introduction of the Gold Board and accompanying legal measures, making it illegal for unauthorised persons to buy and export gold, have significantly improved returns from the sector.

“Today, happily, the returns on gold exports have more than doubled. And that is responsible for part of the stability we’re seeing in the currency,” the President noted.

President Mahama added that these improvements have led to stronger foreign exchange inflows into the Bank of Ghana and boosted the country’s reserves.

“We currently have about six months of import cover—one of the highest in the last [few years],” he stated.

The President’s remarks come amid broader economic reforms under his government’s “reset agenda,” which aims to stabilise Ghana’s economy, tackle corruption, and restore investor confidence.

In addition to domestic achievements, President Mahama also spoke about his upcoming engagements on the international stage.

He said Ghana is expected to present a report on reparations at the African Union summit in Malibu, where the country currently plays a leading advocacy role.

“Ghana is a champion on reparations. And so I’ll be presenting a report on the advocacy for reparations,” he told the Council.

Boakye-Danquah clarifies old video praising Bawumia, vows support for Ken in 2028 elections

Former government spokesperson on governance and security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah Former government spokesperson on governance and security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah

There was a news report on GhanaWeb on July 7, 2025, published under the headline: “Dr. Bawumia is the best economist to turn Ghana’s economy around – Boakye-Danquah.”

The report stated that former government spokesperson on governance and security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, had lauded former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as Ghana’s most capable economist and the right man to lead the nation on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the report, Boakye-Danquah described Dr. Bawumia as “the best economist that Ghana would have, that Ghana has had, and the future of Ghana.”

He was also alleged to have commended both the media and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he described as their admiration for Dr Bawumia, adding that it reflects the NPP flagbearer’s credibility.

“I see that the media houses and even the NDC have a lot of admiration for the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party. And I’m glad,” he reportedly said.

Boakye-Danquah was further reported to have argued that President John Dramani Mahama falls short when it comes to economic leadership.

“If we need to put proper economic knowledge and a sound economic value system in place, H.E. John Dramani Mahama comes nowhere close. That’s the truth. He comes nowhere close.

“So, I’m glad that you would want to replay some of the statements that Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made. It’s a clear indication for us as a political party that Dr. Bawumia is the right person to lead this country and turn around its economic fortunes,” he stated.

However, in a rejoinder, Boakye-Danquah has clarified that the said interview is from the 2024 election period and does not reflect his current position.

He emphasised that he has now thrown his support behind former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, as the NPP’s candidate for the 2028 elections.

Below is his full statement:

“In the lead-up to the 2024 general elections, I campaigned vigorously for Dr. Bawumia (@MBawumia), highlighting his economic expertise as key to transforming Ghana’s fortunes. However, the election results favored John Mahama, reflecting the Ghanaian people’s preference for leadership grounded in practical experience over theoretical economics.

I have now shifted my unwavering support to Ken Ohene Agyapong (@realKenAgyapong) as the ideal candidate to lead the NPP forward, based on my observations and the sentiments of Ghanaians.

While the Bawumia team continues to reshare my 2024 campaign materials, a move I believe is misguided, I’m flattered they recognize my strength as a communicator.

Going forward, I am fully committed to promoting Ken Ohene Agyapong as the next leader of the NPP, confident in his ability to resonate with the people of Ghana and steer the party to success.

The International Monetary Fund’s Executive Board has approved Ghana’s Fourth Review under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Programme, unlocking a significant $370 million disbursement that signals growing international confidence in the West African nation’s economic recovery efforts.

The approval, announced by Ghana’s Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, represents the fifth tranche of funding under the ECF arrangement and comes as Ghana continues to demonstrate measurable progress in implementing comprehensive economic reforms.

“This landmark approval validates Ghana’s unwavering commitment to fiscal discipline and strategic economic transformation,”

The finance Minister stated in announcing the news. “Our comprehensive macroeconomic policies and carefully crafted structural reforms are delivering real results that the international community recognizes and supports.”

The IMF’s decision follows a thorough review of Ghana’s economic performance and adherence to program targets.

The approval demonstrates that Ghana has successfully met the Fund’s benchmarks for fiscal consolidation, debt sustainability measures, and structural reform implementation.

Ghana entered the ECF Programme as part of broader efforts to stabilize its economy and restore macroeconomic balance following significant fiscal challenges.

The program has focused on reducing the fiscal deficit, improving debt management, and implementing structural reforms to enhance economic resilience.

The $370 million disbursement will provide crucial budgetary support as Ghana continues its economic recovery trajectory.

The funds are expected to help the government maintain essential public services while continuing to implement reform measures designed to promote sustainable economic growth.

“Today marks another decisive step forward in Ghana’s economic recovery journey, demonstrating that our reform agenda is not just working – it’s exceeding expectations and rebuilding confidence in our nation’s financial future,” the Finance Minister emphasized.

The approval comes at a time when Ghana has been working to restore investor confidence and demonstrate its commitment to sound economic management.

The successful completion of the fourth review under the ECF Programme is seen as a positive indicator of the country’s reform progress and fiscal discipline.
