The 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed disappointment after efforts to meet the bail conditions of GH¢50 million for the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, proved unsuccessful. Wontumi is currently in custody at the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation.
Addressing the press on Friday, May 30, 2025, Dr Bawumia revealed that arrangements to visit Chairman Wontumi had failed.
“We had made arrangements to come and see our Chairman Wontumi, who was arrested and has been held in custody by EOCO. We wanted to check on him and see how he was doing. All necessary preparations were made,” he stated.
Dr Bawumia also criticised the bail conditions imposed on Wontumi.
“I must put on record that the bail conditions set for Chairman Wontumi, GH¢50 million, are very onerous. I don’t know how many people in Ghana own property worth that amount. It appears designed to delay his release,” he remarked.
He further expressed dissatisfaction over being denied access to Wontumi despite prior notice.
“We are very disappointed in our inability to see him, especially after making the necessary arrangements. We’ve communicated our disappointment and will continue efforts to ensure we get to see him,” he added.
The former Vice President also appealed for calm among party supporters.
“I want to plead with all of you to remain calm as we work behind the scenes to ensure his release. I believe we will succeed, but we must remain peaceful and not take the law into our own hands. It’s important that we follow due process and ensure Chairman Wontumi is released safe and sound,” he urged.
Chairman Wontumi was taken into custody by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after undergoing interrogation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
He is currently under investigation for alleged involvement in multiple criminal offences, including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, has disclosed that a second phase of the investigation reportedly links Wontumi to a broader international organised crime syndicate.
Although EOCO granted him bail of GH¢50 million, his legal team has yet to meet the conditions required for his release.

The Dormaahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Dr. Fredua Agyemang Badu II, has taken a light-hearted jab at Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin over his dramatic protest at the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra.
Reacting to the sit-in staged by Minority MPs demanding the release of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako—popularly known as Chairman Wontumi—the Dormaahene expressed his disapproval of Afenyo-Markin’s conduct during the protest.
“I’m not saying Ghanaians shouldn’t support him, but the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, going to EOCO and sitting on the floor—I wasn’t happy with it. He’s an honourable man. He should let me know next time he wants to go to such a place so I can send someone to follow him with a seat,” the Dormaahene quipped, lacing his critique with humour.
While expressing admiration for Chairman Wontumi, the chief stressed that no one is above the law and that due process must take its course.
“Chairman Wontumi—I really like him. But even though I like him, I’m not saying the law should not take its course. If I’ve done something wrong, I must be investigated. That’s what the law says,” he stated.
His remarks came in the aftermath of a highly publicised protest on Thursday, May 29, when Minority MPs marched from Parliament to EOCO’s offices to protest what they called the political persecution of Wontumi and the misuse of state institutions.
The demonstration caused a major disruption, blocking traffic and attracting a heavy police presence.
Wontumi was arrested on May 27 in connection with alleged financial misconduct involving the Ghana Export-Import Bank (EXIM BANK). Though he was granted bail by EOCO, the conditions—set at GH₵50 million with two sureties to be justified—had not yet been met at the time of the protest.
The Eastern North Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the transportation of 5,950 parcels of compressed and non-compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp across the Volta Lake at Asuboni, near Kwahu Adawso in the Eastern Region.
The suspects — Abraham Agonu, Michael Akuaku, and Confidence Amenuveve — were apprehended on Tuesday, May 28, 2025, while ferrying the suspected narcotics by boat.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the three are part of a broader smuggling network allegedly led by a man identified only as Felix, who is believed to have boarded a separate boat en route to the Akate area.
Police retrieved a pump-action shotgun, eighty-five maxi sacks containing 5,950 parcels of suspected Indian hemp, two outboard motors, and one large engine boat from the suspects.
A manhunt has been launched for Felix and other accomplices linked to the operation.
Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine
Ghana’s Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, took center stage at the 34th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), held in Vienna, Austria, from May 19–23, 2025.
Other members of Ghana’s delegation included Matilda Alomatu Osei-Agyeman, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Austria and the United Nations, alongside officials from the Office of the Attorney General, Ministry of Justice, and the Embassy of Ghana in Vienna.
In a pivotal address under the theme, “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind,” Dr Ayine reaffirmed Ghana’s dedication to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the principle of “leaving no one behind.”
He detailed how Ghana is mainstreaming the SDGs into national policy, prioritising energy and education, and focusing on marginalised groups, including youth, persons with disabilities, and those in the northern regions.
Dr Ayine highlighted flagship initiatives such as the “Adwumawura,” a national apprenticeship program, and the “One Million Coders” project, both designed to equip youth with digital skills and foster entrepreneurship. These efforts, he emphasised, not only promote economic inclusion but also serve as preventive strategies against youth involvement in crime.
Regarding women, he projected the creation of the Women’s Development Bank and dedicated funding in the 2025 budget aimed at empowering female entrepreneurs.
Dr Ayine also emphasised Ghana’s increasing focus on environmental protection, calling for stronger international cooperation to combat environmental crimes.
Thematic discussions focused on addressing new, emerging, and evolving forms of crime, including crimes that affect the environment, smuggling of commercial goods, trafficking in cultural property, and other crimes targeting cultural property.
In a statement delivered on behalf of the Vienna-based African Group, Ambassador Matilda Alomatu Osei-Agyeman reaffirmed the continent’s commitment to the full implementation of the Kyoto Declaration and preparations for the 15th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. She stressed the need to address both the effects and root causes of transnational organized crime, linking crime prevention to sustainable development in line with Agenda 2030 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
On the margins of the CCPCJ, Dr Ayine held a meeting with the UNODC Executive Director, Ghada Waly. They focused on enhancing collaboration to combat corruption and strengthen criminal justice systems, discussing strategies such as leveraging technology, improving cross-border cooperation, and building capacity through partnerships, in line with UNODC’s priorities to address corruption, organized crime, and promote accountability and robust legal frameworks, particularly within African contexts.
Other bilateral meetings included those with officials from strategic countries and groups, such as Japan, the UK, the European Union, South Africa, and the USA, to enhance collaboration in the areas of crime prevention and criminal justice.
Ghana co-organised a strategic side event with the UNODC on enhancing good governance and the use of evidence in policymaking, presenting the evaluation of the Ghana National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP). Dr Ayine and Ambassador Osei-Agyeman shed light on Ghana’s experience in the fight against corruption.
Other side events that Ghana’s delegation actively participated in focused on the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime, torture investigations and oversight, the Bangkok and Nelson Mandela Rules, and operational networks against links.
Ghana’s active participation, led by Attorney General and Minister for Justice Dr Ayine and the collective efforts of the African Group, underscored the importance of inclusive, evidence-based, and technology-driven approaches to crime prevention. As preparations begin for the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the outcomes of this session set the stage for deeper cooperation and stronger institutions worldwide.
Ghana remains steadfast in its commitment to peace, justice, and the rule of law, working hand-in-hand with the United Nations and the international community to build a safer, more just world for all.
The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, established by the United Nations Economic and Social Council, serves as the UN’s principal policymaking body on crime prevention and criminal justice. Its annual sessions foster dialogue, policy formulation, and the exchange of best practices among member states.
Josephine Oppong-Yeboah is a gender advocate and media personality
Media personality and gender advocate, Josephine Oppong-Yeboah, has urged female appointees in the Mahama government to exhibit exemplary leadership and demonstrate that women are equally capable of holding high public offices in Ghana.
She said the appointment of women into significant government positions was a positive step towards gender inclusivity, but noted that these appointments must be backed by competence, integrity, and a commitment to national development.
Oppong-Yeboah, who has long championed women’s empowerment and good governance, called on the female appointees to shun all forms of corrupt practices and focus on delivering on their mandates to the benefit of all Ghanaians.
“This is a great opportunity for women to prove that we are not only capable but also ethical and competent leaders,” she said, adding “let this be a moment of pride for all Ghanaian women, and let the performance of our sisters in government inspire many more to aim high.”
Oppong-Yeboah encouraged the appointees to remain focused, work diligently, and uphold the trust reposed in them by the President and the people of Ghana.
According to her, the growing number of women in key leadership roles across Africa signals a gradual shift in traditional gender roles and expectations.
She stressed, however, that such progress must be consolidated by positive results and not be marred by scandals and underperformance.
“Leadership is about service. It’s about putting the needs of the people above personal interests. I urge our women in leadership to be the difference Ghana needs,” Oppong-Yeboah added.
She also appealed to the general public, especially the media, to support female leaders with constructive criticism and encouragement, noting that inclusive governance requires collective effort.
The National Project Manager of the ILO’s Productivity Ecosystems for Decent Work initiative, David Macos, has emphasised the need to ensure proper remuneration for work as a key driver of productivity.
He noted that better working conditions and increased productivity are interconnected and often reinforce each other.
Speaking on the sidelines of a roundtable discussion on Productivity, Jobs, and Growth, held under the theme Productivity Ecosystems for Decent Work Project, Macos highlighted the shared understanding among stakeholders, Organised Labour, the Government, and the Ghana Employers’ Association, regarding the link between decent work and productivity.
“I think the solution lies in making our sectors more productive, but at the same time, more decent,” Macos stated.
“The conversation is about how social partners are trying to find a nexus between productivity and decent work. Unions and employers concluded that while productivity leads to better working conditions, improved working conditions are equally necessary to achieve higher productivity.”
Macos also disclosed that the ILO is collaborating with government agencies to develop policies aimed at creating systems that enhance productivity.
“We are working with the Ghana Statistical Service to generate productivity data for different sectors. This will support the government in crafting policies aligned with sectors that show high potential for productivity growth, such as extractives.
“However, sectors like manufacturing and agro-processing also stand out, not only for their productivity potential but also for their capacity to create decent jobs and foster linkages across the economy,” he added.
Mr. Ogbamie argued that if the MPs believed the GH₵50 million bail bond imposed on Wontumi was excessive, they should have promptly organized legal representation to seek a revision of the bail conditions.
Veteran Ghanaian Journalist, Alfred Ogbamie has launched a scathing critique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership, particularly targeting Members of Parliament from the Ashanti Region, over their perceived lack of support for the embattled Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Former Vice President and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called for calm among party supporters following the continued detention of the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi.
Dr Bawumia made the appeal during a visit to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) premises, where he and other senior party figures were denied access to the detained party official.
Despite what he described as prior arrangements, the delegation was unable to see Wontumi, a development that has drawn sharp criticism from the NPP leader.
“We are very, very disappointed in our inability to see him. We had made prior arrangements, and we’ve expressed our disappointment,” Dr Bawumia told journalists.
He also criticised the bail terms set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), describing the GH¢50 million requirement—backed by two justified sureties—as unnecessarily harsh and deliberately obstructive.
“I must put on record that the bail conditions set for Chairman Wontumi are very onerous. I don’t know how many people in Ghana have property worth GH¢50 million. I believe this was just set to prevent his timely release,” he stated.
Despite his frustration, Dr Bawumia reaffirmed the party’s commitment to due process, promising to pursue all legal avenues to secure the Chairman’s release.
“We are going to follow the due process, the legal process, to make sure that he is released as early as possible,” he said.
He concluded with a strong appeal to NPP supporters to exercise restraint and avoid any form of unlawful behaviour in response to the situation.
“I want to plead with all of you to remain calm as we work behind the scenes to ensure that he is out. I believe he will be successful. We must be calm and not take the law into our own hands.”
The continued detention of Chairman Wontumi has sparked political tension and drawn widespread attention.

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has appealed for calm among party supporters following confusion over the whereabouts of the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Dr. Bawumia, alongside other senior NPP figures including Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, had visited the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in Accra on Friday, May 30, in an attempt to meet the bail conditions set for Wontumi.
However, officials at the NIB reportedly told the delegation that Wontumi was not in their custody but rather in the custody of the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO).
The development has fueled tension among party supporters, particularly after reports that Wontumi had been transferred to the NIB earlier in the day.
Addressing journalists on Friday, May 30, Dr. Bawumia urged supporters to remain peaceful and allow the legal process to take its course.
“I believe this was just set to prevent his release. We’re going to follow the legal process to make sure he’s released as soon as possible. I want to plead with all of you to remain calm as we work behind the scenes to make sure he’s out.

The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Austria, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, hosted a lively afternoon gathering for the Ghanaian community in Vienna, highlighted by the participation of Ghana’s Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Akuritinga Ayine.
Ayine’s presence provided a unique opportunity for attendees to engage directly with a key figure in Ghana’s legal and justice system. He shared insights into ongoing efforts by his office to combat corruption, notably the “Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL)” initiative, aimed at prosecuting high-profile financial misconduct and recovering misappropriated public funds.
The event, organized under the leadership of Matilda Alomatu Osei-Agyeman, Ambassador and Permanent Representative, was designed to strengthen community ties and foster dialogue between the Embassy and Ghanaians living in Austria.
Attendees enjoyed a warm atmosphere enriched by Ghanaian music, traditional cuisine, and cultural exchanges, all set within the Embassy’s official residence.
Beyond socializing, the gathering served as a platform for the community to discuss consular services, share experiences, and provide feedback to Embassy officials.
Families and children were warmly welcomed, creating an inclusive environment that celebrated Ghanaian heritage while supporting integration into Austrian society.
Participants expressed deep appreciation for the event, highlighting the Ambassador’s accessibility and the meaningful conversations with Ayine and other Embassy staff. Many noted that such initiatives are vital for maintaining cultural identity and building supportive networks abroad.
The Embassy of Ghana in Austria plans to continue these community-focused events, encouraging all Ghanaians in Austria to stay connected and involved through upcoming activities and official communication channels.
The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, has stated that only President John Mahama and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, can secure bail for the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Yandoh emphasised that the bail amount is excessive and expressed doubt that anyone else can afford it.
He therefore appealed to the two brothers to assist in securing the sureties required for Chairman Wontumi’s release.
“Only John Dramani Mahama and his brother Ibrahim Mahama have that kind of money. We are on our knees begging Ibrahim Mahama and his brother to make the money available for Wontumi’s bail,” he stated.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday, shortly after leaving the CID headquarters in Accra. His arrest has drawn widespread criticism from within the NPP.
He remains in custody after failing to meet his bail conditions of GH₵50 million with two justified sureties on Wednesday, amid reports of ill health.
On Thursday, the Minority in Parliament and some members of the NPP stormed EOCO’s headquarters to protest the bail conditions, describing them as excessive and unreasonable.
His lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, in an earlier interview, disclosed that some individuals who initially agreed to help later became hesitant after their names were made public.
However, Mr. Yandoh asserted that NPP members are living in fear, and given the intense scrutiny anyone who offers to bail Chairman Wontumi will face, no one is willing to provide sureties—even if they can.
Former Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin were unsuccessful in their attempt to have access to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, at the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) headquarters in Accra.
Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was reportedly transferred to the NIB following his detention by the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO) as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
Despite being granted permission to enter the NIB premises at Ridge on Friday, May 30, Dr. Bawumia confirmed after exiting the facility that he and Afenyo-Markin were unable to meet with Wontumi.
“We heard that Wontumi was arrested and has been held in custody by EOCO and so we wanted to see him and see how he was doing. We have made those arrangements. Unfortunately, we are here, but the NIB and EOCO feel that the crowd is such that they are unable to bring him here at the moment and that they would have to make proper arrangement to bring him so that we can see him and we are going to continue to make those arrangement.
“We are very disappointed in our inability to see him because we had made prior arrangement and so we have expressed our disappointment and we want to continue and make sure that we can see him.
Dr. Bawumia is said to be leading efforts to meet the GHS50 million bail conditions imposed by EOCO, which require two justified sureties. However, those conditions have yet to be met, leaving Wontumi in continued detention.
In a show of solidarity, several NPP MPs, senior party officials, and supporters gathered at the NIB premises.
Wontumi was first arrested on Tuesday, May 27, by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service. He was later picked up by EOCO, which granted him bail on Wednesday, May 28.
The case has ignited political controversy. On Thursday, May 29, Minority MPs staged a protest march from Parliament to EOCO headquarters, demanding Wontumi’s immediate release. The demonstration disrupted traffic in Accra and drew a heavy police response. However, the MPs returned to Parliament the following day, ending their brief boycott.
Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Justice Srem-Sai, has confirmed that Wontumi is under investigation for serious crimes.
“Suspect BERNARD ANTWI BOASIAKO, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi, is under investigation for various criminal offences (including fraud, causing financial loss to the State, and money laundering),” he stated in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
He further noted that EOCO is leading the investigation, with asset recovery measures already underway to secure suspected proceeds of crime.

The Dunkwa-On-Offin community in the Central Region has been was thrown into shock and mourning after a domestic altercation turned deadly, claiming the life of a pregnant woman and leaving another woman in critical condition.
The incident, which occurred in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality, involved a young man identified as Emmanuel Baisie, believed to be in his 20s. He is alleged to have stabbed and killed 28-year-old Achiaa Francisca, who was several months pregnant, and seriously injured her younger sister, Georgina Aubyn.
According to eyewitness accounts, the tragic event unfolded when Francisca attempted to intervene in a heated argument between Baisie and Georgina, his partner and mother of their four-year-old daughter. Baisie, who reportedly does not support the child, is said to have become enraged during the confrontation.
In a fit of violence, Baisie allegedly slashed Francisca’s throat with a knife, causing fatal injuries. He then turned on Georgina, stabbing her multiple times in the lower abdomen. Eyewitnesses claim Baisie accused Georgina of infidelity in the heat of the altercation.
Both victims were rushed to the Dunkwa Government Hospital. Tragically, Francisca and her unborn child were pronounced dead on arrival. Georgina remains in critical condition at the hospital’s emergency unit, battling for her life.
Police in Dunkwa-On-Offin have launched a manhunt for Emmanuel Baisie, who reportedly fled the scene after the attack. The community has been left reeling from the gruesome nature of the crime, with calls growing louder for justice and greater protections for women facing domestic abuse.
Authorities have urged anyone with information on Baisie’s whereabouts to come forward. Meanwhile, social workers and local leaders are rallying to support the surviving family members and ensure Georgina receives the medical and emotional care she needs.
This devastating incident has reignited concerns about the rise in domestic violence and gender-based attacks across the country, with advocates calling for stronger legal action and community intervention strategies.
Ghana is set to become a major player in artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies through a landmark partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The two countries have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the Ghana-UAE Innovations and Technology Hub—a transformative project aimed at accelerating digital transformation and positioning Ghana as a tech powerhouse on the continent.
The ambitious initiative, spearheaded by the UAE’s Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), will see the development of a 25 square kilometre innovation district in Ningo-Prampram, serving as a regional base for AI engineering, business process outsourcing (BPO), knowledge process outsourcing (KPO), and machine learning tailored to Africa’s unique data needs.
Expected to draw more than 11,000 global companies under the PCFC umbrella—including Microsoft, Meta, Oracle, IBM, and Alphabet—the project will act as a launchpad for multinational tech giants looking to expand their footprint in Ghana and across Africa.
The first phase of the $1 billion project will be fully financed by the PCFC, with the Government of Ghana providing the land. The initiative is supported by top AI developers from Dubai’s own tech transformation and is expected to be a catalyst for local innovation and job creation.
The MoU was officially signed in Accra on Thursday, May 29, 2025, by Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, and PCFC Chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem. The ceremony was witnessed by officials from Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, agencies under the digital ministry, and representatives from the UAE’s diplomatic mission.
Describing the agreement as “a bold ambition grounded in mutual respect,” Mr. George said the initiative reflects the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to make innovation a key driver of sustainable and inclusive development.
“This hub will create a space where investment meets ingenuity, where the creativity of Ghana’s youth is matched with opportunities to try, and where advanced technologies are developed, deployed and exported,” George said.
“It is about building a nation where our brightest minds no longer look outwards for opportunity, but see it in their own backyards.”
The Minister, who also represents Ningo-Prampram in Parliament, added that the project aligns with the government’s flagship One Million Coders Programme, which seeks to equip Ghanaian youth with skills in AI, cybersecurity, data protection, and digital governance.
“To Ghana’s vibrant community of tech entrepreneurs, innovators, and digital talents, this is your platform,” he said.
“We are creating the conditions for a digital renaissance, led by Ghanaians for Ghanaians. Our goal is not to catch up with the digital age, but to help shape it.”
On his part, PCFC Chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, who also chairs global logistics giant DP World, underscored the importance of innovation in shaping national wealth.
“Today, wealth is not measured by gold or oil but by the ability to generate, implement, and scale ideas,” he said.
“Look at Apple—they transformed a simple concept into a multi-billion-dollar enterprise. This is the power of ideas, engineering, and innovation.”
Using DP World’s automated port in Rotterdam as an example, he explained that while automation and AI are changing the nature of work, they are not eliminating jobs. Instead, roles are shifting toward design, strategy, and customer engagement.
“Jobs aren’t disappearing—they’re evolving. Our people are moving from manual tasks to managing smart processes,” he said.
With global supply chains increasingly localized, Bin Sulayem said Ghana is well-positioned to become a key production and distribution hub for West Africa, offering companies a strategic location to manufacture and ship goods closer to market.
Ghanaian urban gospel musician Scott Evans has revealed that his music is not directed at Christians.
According to him, his aim is to use his songs to win people who do not yet know Christ, especially those in the secular world.
In an interview on Hitz FM, the gospel singer was asked whether he believes that performing at secular events helps gospel musicians win souls for Christ, or if he agrees with those who say gospel artistes should only perform at Christian events.
In response, Scott Evans noted that his music is not even meant for people who already know Christ.
“The kind of songs that I do, they are not even for Christians. The aim is to win people to come on the side of Christ,” he explained.
He went on to use an example to make his point more relatable. He said that just as God created the soil and gives people seeds to plant, the results depend on where the seed is planted.
According to him, if someone plants okro seeds on rocky soil, they may still get okro, but in small amounts. However, if they plant the same seeds in good soil, they will get okro in its full potential.
“Now there is a way God has done things, God said He created the soil. He’s giving you the seed. All you need to do is to sow. If you sow the seed of okro on rocky soil, you get okro, but you get okro in small quantities. But if you sow it in good soil, you can get the okra in its full potential,” Scott Evans shared.
Former Vice President and 2024 of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin were unsuccessful in their attempt to visit Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, at the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) headquarters on Friday, May 30, 2025.
Although Bawumia was granted permission to enter the premises of the NIB, he was unable to see Chairman Wontumi.
“We heard that Wontumi was arrested and has been held in custody by EOCO, so we wanted to see him and check on his well-being. We made those arrangements. Unfortunately, we are here, but the NIB and EOCO feel that the crowd is such that they are unable to bring him here at the moment, and they would have to make proper arrangements to bring him so that we can see him. We are going to continue to make those arrangements.
“We are very disappointed in our inability to see him because we had made prior arrangements, and so we have expressed our disappointment. We want to continue and make sure that we can see him,” he stated.
The former Vice President assured NPP supporters that the party would pursue all legal avenues to challenge Wontumi’s detention and the contested bail terms.
“We are going to follow due process, the legal process, to ensure that he is released as soon as possible,” he added.
Wontumi is currently under investigation for alleged involvement in multiple criminal offenses, including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, has disclosed that a second phase of the investigation reportedly links Wontumi to a wider international organized crime syndicate.
Despite being granted bail in the amount of GH¢50 million, his legal team has not been able to satisfy the conditions required for his release, leaving Wontumi in continued detention.

Dr Kwabena Nyako is the Deputy Secretary General of TUC
The Deputy Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress, Dr Kwabena Nyako Otoo, has noted that despite the current appreciation of the cedi, what the economy needs most is long-term currency stability.
According to him, the recent performance of the cedi is encouraging and signals signs of economic recovery.
He made these remarks during a roundtable discussion on Productivity, Jobs, and Growth, held under the theme Productivity Ecosystems for Decent Work Project, and attended by Organised Labour, the Government, and the Ghana Employers’ Association.
“If you look at how much the cedi depreciated previously, it’s understandable that we are now jubilant about its appreciation. However, just like inflation and other macroeconomic indicators, extreme volatility in the exchange rate can be risky and harmful to certain sectors. What we really need is a stable exchange rate that allows businesses to plan both in the short and long term,” Dr. Nyako Otoo said.
He emphasised that extreme fluctuations are not ideal for the cedi and urged the government to continue working to stabilise the currency.
“But for now, given how far we’ve come, we should allow ourselves to celebrate a little, commend the government, and encourage further efforts to help the cedi regain some of its lost value and credibility. From an economic standpoint, what we need moving forward is not just appreciation, but a stable exchange rate, one that doesn’t fluctuate sharply,” he added.

The high melanin levels in the skin are well-adapted to the region’s sunny climate, providing natural protection and playing a significant role in Senegalese cultural identity.
1. South Sudan
South Sudanese people often have some of the darkest skin tones in Africa. This is attributed to the region’s high levels of melanin, which provides protection against intense UV radiation. The country’s diverse ethnic groups, including the Dinka, Nuer, and Shilluk, each contribute to this characteristic. In South Sudan, dark skin is not only a biological trait but also a celebrated aspect of beauty and cultural pride.
This ranking highlights the profound connection between skin pigmentation, environmental factors, and cultural identity. The prevalence of dark skin tones in these countries is a testament to human adaptation and the rich diversity found within the African continent.
Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has accused the government of deliberately setting an impossible GH₵50 million bail condition to prevent the timely release of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Speaking to journalists after emerging from a tense meeting at the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) building, where chaotic scenes had earlier unfolded, Dr Bawumia expressed frustration over what he described as a politically motivated obstruction of justice.
Dr Bawumia stated that the exorbitant bail sum was intentionally imposed to keep Wontumi in custody indefinitely.
“I must put on record that the bail conditions that have been set for Chairman Wontumi’s bail, 50 million Ghana cedis, is very onerous. I don’t know how many people in Ghana can have property worth 50 million Ghana cedis.”
“I believe that this was just set to prevent his timely release,” he added.
The former Vice President revealed that his efforts to visit Wontumi at the NIB headquarters were thwarted due to security concerns caused by the agitated crowd outside.
While condemning the bail conditions, Dr Bawumia urged NPP supporters to remain calm.
He assured supporters that the NPP would pursue all legal avenues to challenge Wontumi’s detention and the contested bail terms.
“We are going to follow the due process, the legal process, to make sure that he is released as soon as possible.”

Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has taken a jab at his colleagues on the Minority side for returning to Parliament after staging a protest at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
In a light-hearted but pointed submission on the floor of Parliament, Adongo criticised the Minority for what he described as a lack of consistency in their protest over the detention of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi.
“I think Wontumi will be very, very sad that you are here talking. He was expecting you to sleep at EOCO with him,” Mr. Adongo said.
“You abandoned him to sleep there. And today, you promised the people of Ghana that you have abandoned this chamber but you are here making a lot of arguments.”
He continued, “You people should tell Wontumi that his people are deceiving him. He is sleeping there alone and you are here arguing for more holidays.”
Mr. Adongo also ridiculed the manner in which the Minority conducted their protest.
“We were surprised when they were sitting on the floor in front of EOCO yesterday, but when we went there at 7pm, they had disappeared,” he said.
The Minority in Parliament had on Thursday, May 29, boycotted parliamentary proceedings and held a sit-in protest at EOCO to demand the release of Chairman Wontumi, who had been detained for questioning.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been transferred to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) following his detention at the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO).
The transfer comes amid heightened public and political interest in Wontumi’s case. The 2024 NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is reported to have spearheaded efforts to meet the bail conditions set by EOCO.
Several Members of Parliament and senior party officials have also shown up at the NIB, alongside a crowd of supporters. As of now, there is a heavy security presence at the NIB premises.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested on Tuesday, May 27, by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service. He was subsequently picked up by EOCO after his release by the CID.
Although EOCO granted him GHS50 million bail on Wednesday, May 28, he has yet to meet the conditions, which require two justified sureties.
In protest of his detention, Minority MPs marched from Parliament to EOCO’s headquarters on Thursday, May 29, demanding his immediate release. Their demonstration caused significant traffic disruption and prompted a strong police response.
However, the protest was short-lived. The Minority MPs returned to Parliament on Friday, May 30, effectively ending their boycott.
On Thursday, May 29, Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Justice Srem-Sai, confirmed that Chairman Wontumi, is currently under investigation for a series of serious criminal offences, including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Justice Srem-Sai disclosed that the ongoing investigation is being handled by the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO), with asset recovery efforts already underway to secure suspected proceeds of crime.
“Suspect BERNARD ANTWI BOASIAKO, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi, is under investigation for various criminal offences (including fraud, causing financial loss to the State, and money laundering),” the Deputy Attorney General stated.

Former MP for Nsuta-Kwamang-Beposo in the Ashanti Region, Kwame Asafu-Adjei has bemoaned the pace at which the Mahama administration is prosecuting NPP officials who looted the state under the previous Akufo-Addo government.
Reacting to the detention of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the former legislator commended the state security officials for going after persons who broke the law under the previous regime.
Obuasi (Ash), May 30, GNA-AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, in partnership with Underground Mining Alliance (UMA), AGA Malaria Control, Pamicor, and JACHRIS, has supported 5,000 public basic school girls in Obuasi with 15,000 disposable sanitary pads and 2,100 reusable pads.
This impactful donation was preceded by a comprehensive public health education campaign in public basic schools and a durbar held to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day.
Nana Afia Twumwaa Tia, Obaapanin of Nkamprom, a suburb of Obuasi praised the programme, highlighting the profound impact menstruation-related challenges have on the confidence, self-esteem, and school attendance of young girls.
She said these challenges demand a holistic approach like the one adopted by AngloGold Ashanti and its partners, adding that menstruation was a normal physiological process that every woman experiences.
According to her, it should never be a barrier to academic success, and she encouraged girls not to feel ashamed and attend school confidently during their periods.
Ms Mavis Nana Yaa Kyei, Social Development and Gender Superintendent at AngloGold Ashanti, representing the Community Relations Manager, emphasised the urgent need to combat the stigma and misconceptions associated with menstruation.
She said the time had come for a collaborative and informed response to menstrual poverty.
Ms. Kyei also revealed that, beyond the donation of sanitary pads and sensitisation efforts, the Obuasi Mine has facilitated the training of over 100 girl-child coordinators in adolescent reproductive health.
These coordinators are now equipped with both technical knowledge and soft skills to guide and educate adolescent girls on sexual and reproductive health, boosting their confidence and reducing anxiety during this critical stage of their development.
Ms. Andrea Hall, a Board Member of Perenti (UMA), underscored the importance of demystifying menstrual health and hygiene.
She called for more inclusive education for both girls and boys to foster greater understanding and normalise menstruation as a natural part of life.
Contemporary gospel artiste Scott Evans has revealed that he invested approximately GH¢200,000 in the production of his music video for the song “100 Percent.”
In an interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz on May 30, 2025, Evans detailed the extensive efforts and resources involved in creating the high-quality video, including shooting in Cape Coast and assembling over 100 dancers.
“We had to shoot in Cape Coast. We had to get over 100 dancers. The locations, the set we built—everything was from scratch. There was a crane. We had to rent a crane to capture certain shots,” he disclosed.
One of the most significant expenses was color grading. After two attempts with local professionals in Ghana failed to deliver the desired results, Evans sought the expertise of a colorist based in Estonia.
“We initially tried two guys in Ghana, but that didn’t work because of what we wanted to achieve with the quality of our footage. So we found someone online, but he was in Estonia, and we couldn’t send dollars to him,” he explained.
Due to challenges with international payments, the team resorted to using cryptocurrency to complete the transaction.
“So we asked him, and he said he could accept bitcoin. One of my team members who’s into crypto made the payment on our behalf,” he added.
Evans emphasised that the substantial investment was aimed at ensuring top-tier production quality for the video, stating, “Everything was from scratch.”
This claim aligns with Evans’ previous assertions about his dedication to high production standards in his music projects.
He has previously claimed to be one of the most invested artists in terms of production quality, remaining focused on delivering exceptional content to his audience.

Dormaahene Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II (L) has told President Mahama to probe the Nat’l Cathedral hole
The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II, has made a passionate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to investigate the National Cathedral project.
Speaking at an engagement as part of the president’s Thank You Tour of the Bono Region, the Dormaahene said that the people responsible for the National Cathedral project must be held accountable because so much money has been spent on the project with nothing to show for it.
He asserted that all the people involved in the National Cathedral project, including the clergy, must be investigated.
“I know you are continuing to do your work… His Excellency, $58 million was spent on the National Cathedral with nothing to show for it. Whether those involved are pastors, chiefs, whoever they are, I don’t understand that. Him, investigate it.
“Don’t let any person deceive you from investigating it. Ghanaians will be disappointed in you if you don’t. His Excellency, investigate it (the National Cathedral project),” the paramount chief said.
He went on to say that if the Ashanti Regional Chairman of his party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi or Chairman One, who is currently in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), can be arrested and investigated, no person should be exempt.
“If my friend, Chairman One, has been arrested and the law is taking its course, pastors are not greater than Chairman One, and chiefs are not better than Chairman. The law must be applied equally,” he reiterated.

The Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Edward Ato Sarpong, has called on manufacturing companies in Ghana to take full advantage of the current conducive economic landscape to drive innovation, competitiveness, and growth in the sector.
Commenting on the 9th Ghana Manufacturing Awards recently held at the Labadi Beach Hotel, Edward Ato Sarpong highlighted the critical role of manufacturing in achieving inclusive and export-led economic transformation.
“The current economic environment presents unique opportunities for local manufacturers to innovate, expand into export markets, and deepen their value chains,” the MD noted. He added that ADB stands ready to partner with the sector through targeted financing and technical support.
“At ADB, we view manufacturing as an essential partner. The bank has long supported diverse areas within the manufacturing industry, including apparel manufacturing. The agricultural value chain is another key area that is so dear to us as a bank,” he said.
“As a bank with a mandate to promote agribusiness, we are committed to supporting viable manufacturing ventures that drive export potential, empower SMEs, and adopt sustainable production practices. Our tailored financing solutions, technical partnerships, and sector-specific products are designed to help local industries grow beyond borders,” he added.
“We believe that supporting agro-processing and industrial innovation is key to reducing post-harvest losses, increasing export earnings, and strengthening food security,” he further stated.
Edward Ato Sarpong also called for effective collaborations with government, policymakers, and other key stakeholders and consistent investment in skills development, infrastructure, and technology to fully unlock Ghana’s manufacturing potential.
The country has witnessed significant appreciation of its currency (the Cedi) recently, with other government policies such as the Big Push expected to serve as a catalyst to facilitate national development.
ADB plays a key financial intermediation role in the economic development of Ghana.
From L-R: Michael Essien, Otto Addo and Stephen Appiah
Former Chelsea and Ghana midfield star Michael Essien paid a surprise visit to the Black Stars camp in London ahead of their third-place playoff match against Trinidad and Tobago in the 2025 Unity Cup.
The encounter, set for Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Gtech Community Stadium, comes after Ghana’s narrow 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in a thrilling semi-final on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
Essien was spotted at the team hotel, sharing a warm reunion with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo and former captain Stephen Appiah.
The trio, iconic figures in Ghanaian football history, were key members of the nation’s historic maiden World Cup appearance in Germany in 2006.
Now walking the path of coaching, Essien is currently on the technical staff at Danish club FC Nordsjælland, while Otto Addo continues to oversee a new generation of Black Stars talents.
Stephen Appiah, meanwhile, plays a key administrative role as vice president of the Black Stars management committee.
Essien’s presence brought an emotional boost to the camp, particularly for the younger players seeking inspiration and guidance from Ghana’s golden generation.
His visit is seen as timely, as the Black Stars aim to bounce back from the disappointment of missing out on a place in the Unity Cup final.
Ghana’s hopes of winning the revived tournament were dashed by a strong Nigerian side in West London.
In a semi-final that lived up to its billing, the Black Stars showed promise but fell short against their fiercest rivals.
Nigeria’s victory sets up a final clash against Jamaica, who edged Trinidad and Tobago 3-2 in their semi-final thanks to a dramatic last-minute penalty from Richard King.
With the title out of reach, Ghana now shifts focus to Saturday’s bronze medal match.
The Unity Cup has served as a platform for Otto Addo to test a younger, experimental squad, and the game against Trinidad and Tobago offers one last chance for fringe players to make a case for future national team selection.

Dormaahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Dr. Fredua Agyemang Badu II, has taken a swipe—albeit humourously—at Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin over his dramatic protest at the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO) in Accra.
Speaking on the sit-in staged by Minority MPs to demand the release of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi at the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO), the Dormaahene said he was not pleased with Afenyo-Markin’s conduct during the demonstration.
“I’m not saying Ghanaians should not support him, but Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin going to EOCO and sitting on the floor—I wasn’t happy with it. He is [an] honourable. He should let me know when he wants to go to such a place so I can send one of my people to follow him with a seat,” the Dormaahene said with a touch of sarcasm.
The Dormaahene made it clear that while he holds personal admiration for Chairman Wontumi, his support does not extend to bypassing legal processes.
“Chairman Wontumi—I really like him, but even though I like him, I am not saying due process shouldn’t work. If I have done something wrong, the law allows me to be investigated.”
The chief’s comments follow the Minority Caucus’s high-profile sit-in protest on Thursday, May 29, in front of EOCO headquarters. The MPs marched from Parliament to the EOCO offices, blocking traffic and drawing a strong police presence, as they decried what they described as the political persecution of Wontumi and the weaponisation of state institutions.
Chairman Wontumi had been arrested on May 27 in connection with alleged financial irregularities involving the Ghana Export-Import Bank (EXIM BANK). Though EOCO granted him bail, the conditions—including GH₵50 million with two sureties to be justified—had not yet been met at the time of the protest.

Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, has issued a strong warning that if the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is not released by 6pm on Friday, it could lead to serious unrest in the country.
“If by 6pm Friday, they fail to release Chairman Wontumi, you will see what will happen in this country—things will escalate and create problems,” he said in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show.
He stressed the importance of state agencies operating within the constitution and the rule of law.
“We have laws in this country that guide what to do when a suspect is arrested. The person must be taken to court and due process followed. We cannot allow anyone to take the law into their own hands.”
When asked about the seriousness of his statement and its consequences, Mr. Baafi said,
“We are ready to die for this country. If the security services want to pick me up for saying this, so be it. We want them to kill all of us if that’s what it takes to protect the democracy of this country. And that is what we will do.”
Mr. Baafi also suggested that some people within the NPP and the country are prepared to make serious sacrifices to protect democracy.
He indicated that they have made thorough preparations and are ready for any eventuality if Wontumi’s detention continues unjustly.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday, shortly after leaving the CID headquarters in Accra. His arrest has sparked widespread criticism from within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He remains in custody after failing to meet the bail conditions set at GH₵50 million with two justified sureties on Wednesday, amid reports of ill health.
On Thursday, members of the Minority in Parliament and some NPP supporters staged a protest at EOCO’s headquarters, describing the bail conditions as excessive and unreasonable.
His lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, revealed earlier that some individuals who initially agreed to act as sureties later backed out after their names were made public.
President John Dramani Mahama has criticised what he described as the deceptive elevation of the Sunyani Regional Hospital to Teaching Hospital status under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Speaking during his Thank-you tour of the Bono Region on Friday, May 30, the President stated that the facility lacked the infrastructure and legal backing to merit the designation.
He further announced his government’s move to legally upgrade the hospital with immediate effect.
“The previous government announcement on the upgrade of the Sunyani Teaching Hospital into a teaching hospital was not backed by any legal legislation. We have corrected that. The Council of State has approved the board, and collaboration with UENR is underway to begin the training of health professionals to serve the Bono, East, Ahafo, and beyond.”
The President also announced the establishment of a medical school at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
“UENR has suffered stagnation due to inadequate investment. The new NDC administration is going to change that. One of the first steps taken by my administration has been to uncap the GETFund. This will release more resources to the fund to undertake critical infrastructure projects in all our educational institutions.
“The GETFund has recently conducted an infrastructure audit of the UENR university and will soon commence construction of additional facilities to support the establishment of a fully-fledged medical school.”

Dr Daniel McKorley, founder of Electrochem Ghana Limited
The Senior Vice President of policy think tank Imani Africa, Kofi Bentil, has urged the Mahama-led government to invest in Electrochem Ghana Limited, a fully Ghanaian-owned salt production company founded by business mogul Daniel McKorley.
In a statement published on his website, Bentil underscored Electrochem’s significant contribution to Ghana’s GDP and its impact on job creation for the youth in Ada.
He commended Electrochem for its transformation of the Songhor Lagoon into a multi-million-dollar salt production hub – the largest of its kind in the Greater Accra Region.
“With an investment exceeding $88 million, the project currently produces 650,000 metric tonnes of salt annually, with plans to scale up to one million metric tonnes by 2024 and two million by 2027.
“Under the leadership of Mr. Daniel McKorley, Electrochem has not only rejuvenated the lagoon but has also generated over 3,000 jobs for the local community,” the statement noted.
Bentil has appealed to the government to invest in this wholly Ghanaian enterprise to accelerate industrialisation, optimise local resource utilisation, and expand employment opportunities for the youth.
“Electrochem’s Salt Revolution: A Ghanaian Triumph That Deserves National Support”
By Kofi Bentil, Imani.
After hearing numerous accounts about the Electrochem project, my colleagues and I at Imani took the initiative to personally engage with the management of Electrochem Ghana Limited. We visited the facilities and the surrounding area to assess the situation firsthand. What we discovered was nothing short of impressive.
Electrochem, a wholly Ghanaian-owned company under the McDan Group, has transformed the Songhor Lagoon into Africa’s largest industrial salt production site. With an investment exceeding $88 million, the project currently produces 650,000 metric tons of salt annually, with plans to increase this to one million metric tons by 2024 and two million by 2027.
This achievement is particularly remarkable considering the historical challenges faced in harnessing the potential of the Songhor Lagoon. Previous governments had attempted to develop the area for over five decades without success. Under the leadership of Mr. Daniel McKorley, Electrochem has not only revitalized the lagoon but also created over 3,000 jobs for the local community.
Furthermore, Electrochem has launched a 1,000-acre out-grower scheme, involving seven community groups, to promote sustainable salt mining practices and provide additional employment opportunities . The company has also constructed over 70 community salt pans at its own expense, facilitating traditional mining activities for local residents .
Despite these commendable efforts, Electrochem has faced unwarranted criticism and opposition. However, a recent investigation by The Fourth Estate revealed that many of the negative narratives were unfounded, with local miners regaining access to the lagoon and resuming their traditional activities without hindrance .
This project exemplifies the potential of indigenous entrepreneurship to drive national development. If this were a foreign investment, it would undoubtedly receive widespread acclaim. Instead, it is a testament to the vision and determination of a Ghanaian businessman who has not only revitalized a vital resource but also uplifted an entire community.
It is imperative that the government, local leaders, and all Ghanaians rally behind Electrochem and Mr. Dan McKorley. Their success is our success. Supporting this initiative will not only bolster our economy but also position Ghana as a leader in sustainable industrial salt production.
Let us unite in support of this remarkable project and ensure its continued success for the benefit of all Ghanaians.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has dismissed reports suggesting that new individuals have been recruited to work at Ghana’s embassy in Washington D.C., USA.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Ablakwa commended the newly reconstituted diplomatic team for their outstanding performance as the embassy resumed full operations.
“From the briefing I have received, our reopened embassy in Washington D.C. issued over 800 visas on the first day of resumption,” he revealed. “I expect this level of efficiency, professionalism, and integrity to continue.”
He described the team as a “fresh group of seasoned diplomats,” crediting them with spearheading a successful systems overhaul and implementing institutional reforms to restore the embassy’s credibility and service delivery.
“This is a testament to the fact that Ghanaian diplomats excel when provided with the right ecosystem and leadership,” Ablakwa noted.
He firmly rejected claims that the restructuring involved the hiring of new staff to replace previous personnel.
“Contrary to false and baseless claims, there have been no new recruitments to replace lost jobs in our Washington embassy — we have an adequate stock of distinguished and astute diplomats to lead ongoing reforms,” he clarified.
Ablakwa emphasized that the restructuring is part of a broader national agenda aimed at restoring integrity and improving service delivery across Ghana’s foreign missions.
“This cannot be reduced to ‘jobs for the boys,’” he stressed. “It is part of a patriotic, consequential reset agenda.”
The peaceful town of Tadzewu has been rocked by a brutal killing that has left the community in mourning.
Carson Fogah Ladzekpo, a retired seafarer turned cattle farmer, was found dead and buried in his own cattle kraal, with a Fulani herdsman he had employed emerging as the prime suspect.
According to local sources, Mr. Ladzekpo, who returned to his hometown a decade ago after a successful maritime career, was last seen on Thursday, 22nd May 2025, in the company of cattle dealers who had come to purchase three bulls.
Concern grew over his whereabouts in the days that followed. A search party comprising local youth and elders made a grim discovery early Friday morning, his body was buried in the kraal where his livestock were kept.
Police have confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who was found hiding nearby. While an investigation is underway, the incident has sparked outrage and deep sorrow within the community.
Local leaders and the victim’s family are calling for swift and decisive action. Their demands include a full and transparent investigation, the maximum sentence for the perpetrator, and the involvement of National Security and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to probe potential broader motives behind the killing.
“Tadzewu is in tears. We need answers—we need justice,” said Torgbui Eya Agblohu II, Dufia of Tadzewu.
Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served as investigations continue.

Dancehall musician Stonebwoy has expressed his displeasure with the way some Ghanaians habitually criticise entertainment personalities in a negative manner.
In a video shared on Instagram on May 30, 2025, Stonebwoy urged Ghanaians to stop celebrating mediocrity, warning that it is having a detrimental impact on the creative arts industry.
“In the Ghanaian industry, there is a need for a mindset shift. We need that mental shift because celebrating mediocrity is one of the things hurting our industry.
“If we want to progress, then we have to do progressive things—but we’re not mentally embracing the changes that would make such progress possible,” he stated.
Using Nigerians as an example, the Jejereje hitmaker urged Ghanaians to support creatives rather than sabotage them.
“There is a need for us to speak positively about the strides we make toward progress, rather than immediately comparing or downplaying them. Before any Nigerian artiste in my time would win a Grammy, they were already doing the groundwork.
“You’d hear a narrative like, ‘If it wasn’t for Davido, Chris Brown wouldn’t have won a Grammy.’ I love that kind of narrative. But here in Ghana, I humbly say we often create narratives that pull us backward. We have a P.H.D. syndrome—Pull Him Down. But what if we change that to ‘Pull Him There?’” he added.
