Shatta Wale — The ‘Rebel’ Who Defied the System and Transformed Ghanaian Music

0

In the often turbulent waters of Ghana’s entertainment industry, one name consistently sparks both fervent adoration and fierce debate: Shatta Wale.

Often portrayed as a controversial figure, a closer look reveals the story of an artist who, for years, found his brand a deliberate target of traditional media gatekeepers.

What many label as “bullying” on his part is, in reality, a powerful defense against a system designed to control and suppress, a fight that has ultimately paved the way for a more equitable future for Ghanaian musicians.

For far too long, the narrative surrounding Ghanaian music has been shaped by a select few: radio presenters, producers, and industry “kingmakers” who held immense power over artists’ careers. Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., refused to conform to this status quo. Recognizing the inherent bias and limitations of traditional outlets, he shrewdly pivoted to online avenues.

Platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and more recently, TikTok, became his primary stages. He leveraged these digital spaces to connect directly with his loyal fanbase, the “Shatta Movement,” by passing the conventional channels that sought to dictate his music and persona.

This strategic shift wasn’t merely about promotion; it was a declaration of independence. Shatta Wale actively encouraged his fans to stream his music on all available platforms, from Spotify to Apple Music, empowering them to directly support his craft and ensuring he received a fairer share of the proceeds. This move, while revolutionary, inevitably rattled the established order.

The comfortable control once wielded by gatekeepers began to erode, leading to what many inside sources have confirmed was a concerted effort to sabotage Shatta Wale’sbrand and elevate other artists at his expense. Indeed, several individuals have, over time, publicly confessed to being part of such schemes.

A Champion for Artists, Not a Bully

It is in this context of relentless opposition that Shatta Wale’soften-fiery online presence must be understood. His live Facebook and TikTok sessions, where he confronts his detractors head-on, are not acts of gratuitous aggression but rather a defense mechanism against persistent undermining. These sessions, while sometimes raw and unfiltered, are a direct response to the bullying he endured from a system that sought to silence him.

Despite these battles, it’s crucial to note Shatta Wale’s sustained relationships with a significant number of media personalities. He frequently appears on “friendly” stations, engaging in interviews that showcase his musical vision and connect with a broader audience. This nuanced approach demonstrates that his critiques are aimed at systemic issues, not a blanket animosity towards all media.

The ongoing attempt to brand Shatta Wale as simply a “bully” overlooks the fundamental triggers of his actions. His outspokenness, though at times controversial, has been instrumental in challenging the antiquated structures of the Ghanaian music industry. He has consistently championed forartists to receive their fair due, advocating for better royalties and respect for their creative endeavors. His fight has, in many ways, inspired a new generation of musicians to demand their worth and explore independent avenues for success.

Beyond the Music: A Cross-Generational Icon

Beyond the public spats, Shatta Wale’s career is a testament to remarkable success and entrepreneurial spirit. His high-profile collaboration with international icon Beyoncé on “Already” from “The Lion King: The Gift” album propelled him onto the global stage, solidifying his international appeal.

His strong “bromance” with Jamaican dancehall legend Vybz Kartel has also been a significant influence and endorsement within the global dancehall community.

What truly sets Shatta Wale apart is the breadth of his appeal. His fanbase isn’t confined to a single demographic; it spans generations and diverse social spheres. Recently, the President of Ghana himself was seen enthusiastically singing along to Shatta Wale’s hit song “Mahama Paper” during a performance at the Accra Sports Stadium—a powerful testament to his widespread acceptance.

Many high-profile Ghanaians, including respected men of God, influential politicians, and distinguished academics, openly profess their admiration for his music and impact.

This broad appeal has also made him a magnet for respectable corporate brands. Shatta Wale has enjoyed successful associations with major players like Kasapreko and prominent mobile phone companies, further underscoring his commercial viability and widespread influence. His impact isn’t just limited to Ghana; his fanbase and influence extend across Africa and beyond, making him a truly pan-African and global music force.

His ventures also extend beyond music. Shatta Wale has successfully delved into real estate, demonstrating a keen business acumen. His innovative “Shaxi” ride-hailing service, launched with a significant personal investment, provides employment opportunities for many young Ghanaians, showcasing his commitment to empowering his community.

Those who have had private interactions with Shatta Wale often describe a calm, respectful, and surprisingly humble individual, a stark contrast to his often-provocative public persona. This duality underscores the strategic nature of his public actions, which are often calculated responses aimed at challenging the status quo and securing a better deal for artists.

I end this piece by stating that Shatta Wale’s journey is not one of a simple bully, but rather a visionary who recognized the flaws in a traditional system and dared to challenge it. His “bullying” was a self-defense mechanism, a necessary disruption that has undeniably paved the way for a more artist-centric industry in Ghana.

His successes, from global collaborations and entrepreneurial ventures to his unparalleled cross-generational appeal, stand as a testament to his resilience and unwavering commitment to his craft and the welfare of his fellow musicians. He is, undeniably, a cornerstone of the modern Ghanaian music landscape.

Man Utd slash Garnacho and Sancho transfer prices as INEOS take a major hit

Manchester United are prepared to accept very low offers for Ruben Amorim’s exiled cast-offs – just to get them out of the club. Amorim has banished five players – Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrrell Malacia – from training after they all expressed their wish to leave.

While Rashford is finalising a loan move to Barcelona for the upcoming season, the futures of the remaining four are still up in the air, leaving them in a state of uncertainty. The United squad jet off to the US tomorrow (Tuesday) to kick-start their two-week pre-season tour, and Amorim has dropped all four from the travelling group, forcing them to stay behind and train. Such is United’s eagerness to offload them, the club are ready to take a significant loss on their transfer fees.

Previously their collective value was estimated at £150million at their peaks. Three years ago, Rashford was valued at £100m, but the fee Barca will need to pay to secure him permanently at the end of his loan deal in 2026 is now just £40m.

Garnacho’s highest market value was £70m a year ago, but his stock has fallen so drastically that United are willing to accept around £40m for the 20-year-old winger. It’s a similar tale with Jadon Sancho, who was signed from Borussia Dortmund for £73m in 2021.

But United are now content to let him go for £15m, just to be rid of him, although with only a year left on his contract a loan move next season is most likely. Winger Antony, who joined United for £86m in 2022, has also seen his value nosedive.

Interested clubs are now being quoted around £30m to sign him, while a fee of approximately £2m will be accepted for Malacia, who was valued at £20m just a few years ago.

United have previously included players in their tour squad who they intended to sell, such as Romelu Lukaku, who joined the 2019 tour of the Far East and Australia but did not play before his transfer to Inter Milan later that summer.

However, the United board’s support for Amorim’s tough decision to leave his outcast stars behind to train while the rest of the team embark on a profitable three-game tour of the States, highlights the strong backing for the Portuguese head coach’s vision, despite last season’s disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League.

“A good president should not be limited by term of office”

Akyem Asuom Krontihene, Nana Boadi Amponim Obodade III, has sparked national debate by calling for a constitutional referendum that would allow former President John Dramani Mahama to serve beyond the current two-term limit if re-elected.

Speaking passionately during a press engagement ahead of Mahama’s thank-you tour in the Eastern Region, the chief questioned the fairness of term limits that, in his view, prevent exceptional leaders from continuing their work. He described Mahama as a “Good Samaritan” who has returned to rescue Ghana, likening his leadership to the redemptive spirit of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

“In just six months, President Mahama has revived the economy, exposed corruption, and restored national hope,” he said, citing revelations of financial scandals such as the alleged National Service fraud and procurement irregularities. “It was God’s timely intervention that brought him back.”

Nana Boadi extended gratitude to former First Lady Lordina Mahama, whom he praised for her support of her husband’s return to politics. “If I were her, I would have said, ‘You’ve been MP, Vice President, President — what more do you want?’ But she humbly allowed him to return, and for that, we must thank her.”

The Krontihene expressed strong belief in the vision of Mahama’s proposed “Big Push” agenda, which includes a $10 billion investment in infrastructure, job creation, and national development. He argued that such a transformative plan should not be cut short by arbitrary term limits.

“The man is doing a yeoman’s job, dependable, diligent with wisdom and experience.
Can such a leader be limited by time?” he asked, revealing that many opinion leaders and citizens he has engaged support constitutional reform to allow continuity in leadership.

He also expressed confidence in key figures in Mahama’s camp, including Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, whom he described as “a strong, respectful, hardworking, humble lion, and even suggested that Chief of Staff be made the President ‘s Running Mate if the Referendum comes on.

Touching on national security, Nana Boadi warned of past political tensions and urged Ghana’s security agencies to remain vigilant ahead of the next bye elections at Akwatia .
He concluded with a plea for peaceful democratic processes as the country considers its path forward.

“If we want continuous progress,” he said, “we must rethink the structure of our democracy — not for personal gain, but for national prosperity.”

Gov’t to recruit 12,000 into Armed Forces by 2028 – Defence Minister

0

The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has announced the government’s plan to recruit 12,000 new personnel into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) over a three-and-a-half-year period, beginning in 2025.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, July 21, Dr. Boamah said the recruitment drive forms part of efforts to boost the operational capacity of the Armed Forces and support Ghana’s industrialisation and food security goals.

“I am excited to announce that, as has been communicated by the Commander-in-Chief, a
comprehensive enlistment and recruitment exercise is to be undertaken with the view to
increasing the man-power strength of the Ghana Armed Forces. Altogether, we are enlisting and
recruiting Twelve Thousand (12, 000) personnel within the next three and a half years,” he stated.

He revealed that future enlistment exercises would target individuals with specific professional qualifications, including agricultural extension officers, artisans, engineers, and biochemists, to meet the evolving needs of the GAF and contribute to national development initiatives.

The Minister also addressed concerns about over 2,000 potential recruits who were left out during the previous administration despite available vacancies at the Army Recruit Training School.

He encouraged them to reapply, provided they still meet the requirements.

“I wish to emphasize that the over 2,000 potential recruits who could not undergo training under the previous administration, even though vacancies existed at the Army Recruit Training School, are strongly encouraged to reapply. Provided they still meet all the established criteria. I urge those who will not qualify at this stage not to lose hope,” he stated.

The large-scale recruitment is expected to enhance the country’s security architecture and provide employment opportunities for the youth, while aligning military capacity with emerging national priorities.

Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS stages late comeback to book national spot

0

Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School has pulled off a stunning comeback to win their contest in the Ashanti Regional qualifiers of the 2025 NSMQ, securing a place at the national championship.

In a contest filled with tension and shifting leads, it was Juaben SHS who dominated the early rounds. They led with 21 points at the end of Round One, while Yaa Asantewaa trailed behind with 12 points, tied with Islamic SHS.

In Round Two, Juaben stayed ahead with 20 points, followed by Yaa Asantewaa and Fomena T.I. AMASS both at 15 points, and Islamic SHS at 14. After Round Three, Juaben had extended their lead with 33 points, with Yaa Asantewaa just behind on 31.

But the tide turned dramatically in the final round. Yaa Asantewaa surged ahead to finish the contest with 40 points, overtaking Juaben SHS, who remained at 33. Islamic SHS and Fomena T.I. AMASS ended with 27 and 25 points respectively.

The win marks a return for Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS, who missed qualification for the national competition in 2024. Their triumph ends that dry spell and reaffirms their place among Ashanti’s strongest contenders for the 2025 NSMQ title.

Juaben SHS, despite a strong showing and leading most of the way, will miss out on national qualification.

No need to declare Artiste of the Year – Ola Michael insists

Ola Michael is a popular media personality Ola Michael is a popular media personality

Popular media personality Ola Michael has declared he will stage a “one-man demonstration” if event organisers Charterhouse attempt to release the winner of the 2019 Vodafone (now Telecel) Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year award.

It may be recalled that after a violent altercation between the camps of Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale on the night of the awards in 2019, the winner was never announced and has been left blank in the history books.

However, in a series of interviews since that incident, Stonebwoy has been calling on CharterHouse to officially announce him as the winner, claiming that an inside source had revealed to him that he is the winner of the award.

Speaking on United Showbiz on July 19, 2025, Michael described the infamous 2019 night, which saw dancehall artistes Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy clash, including the latter brandishing a firearm on stage, as a traumatic episode for Ghana’s music industry.

“That night was a very traumatic night for the whole country. We had never seen anything like that before,” he reminded viewers.

Michael also questioned why Stonebwoy claims to be the winner of the award, stating that such claims may be disrespectful to the other nominees in the category.

“Why does he think it is he who won it? Who told him he was the winner? No one saw the winner because the envelope was never opened. What if it was someone else in the category?” he questioned.

Ola Michael added that there was no need for the official winner to be announced out of respect for those who were traumatised that night.

He further warned that should CharterHouse proceed to release the official winner, he would personally go on a protest.

“There is no need for Charterhouse to release the name. If they release the name, I will demonstrate,” he said.

Adan Official unveils soul-stirring new single ‘Faded Energy’

0

Adan Official is a Ghanaian rapper Adan Official is a Ghanaian rapper

Ghanaian rapper Adan Official has released a new single titled ‘Faded Energy’, a deeply introspective record that blends emotive lyricism with a raw, melodic soundscape.

Known for his honest storytelling and compelling delivery, Adan uses this track to share a personal journey of self-discovery, disappointment, and ultimately, quiet triumph.

Speaking on the inspiration behind Faded Energy, Adan explained, “Risen through the thoughts of a failing youth till now, I express every deep-felt emotion on a song after a long period of trying to get what I desire.

But after some years I realized that all I was looking for was by my side, never got to see and take it along with me. We fail to see the little wins in our lives, never again will I wait for my big dreams, I’m already living it in my small world.”

This poetic reflection lies at the heart of the track, which explores the emotional toll of chasing elusive dreams while missing out on the beauty of the present.

‘Faded Energy’ serves as both a confession and a breakthrough, a moment where the artist reckons with his past expectations and finds meaning in the progress he has made.

Adan Official’s delivery on the track is raw yet controlled, with poignant bars that echo the struggle of many young Africans searching for identity and purpose in a fast-paced, validation-driven world. The production is stripped down and atmospheric, allowing his words to cut through with powerful clarity.

With ‘Faded Energy,’ Adan continues to establish himself as one of Ghana’s most thoughtful and emotionally resonant rap voices, an artiste unafraid to bare his soul and speak to the inner lives of his generation.

‘Faded Energy’ is a strong reminder that sometimes the most impactful victories are not in the spotlight but in the quiet moments of personal clarity.

Maurice Ampaw slams Ken Agyapong’s call for ‘change,’ backs Bawumia for 2028 election victory

0

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has expressed his disapproval of Kennedy Agyapong’s recent gestures at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference, particularly his call for “change.”

“I was so disappointed when I saw Kennedy Agyapong giving a signal with both hands for ‘change.’ Change for what?” Ampaw questioned.

He added, “Kennedy, you know I’m not against you, but that sign for ‘change’ you made, what does it imply? Are you calling for a change in the NDC or the NPP? For what reason? You’re in opposition; it was inappropriate to signal for ‘change’ at that rally. It was wrong.”

Ampaw criticised the “change” gestures, arguing they were unnecessary.

He further stated, “What are you changing? It isn’t campaign time. You need to be consistent and support Bawumia. Anyone who intends to contest for the presidency deserves recognition; we appreciate all of you. However, Bawumia is our best choice.”

Ampaw believes Dr Bawumia is in a strong position, as noted in a post on X by Sikaofficial dated July 21, 2025.

The accompanying caption read, “Lawyer Maurice Ampaw voiced his disappointment over the ‘change’ sign gestures made by Kennedy Agyapong during the NPP’s National Delegates Conference. He argued that there was no need to call for change, as Dr Bawumia requires just 9% more votes to secure victory in the 2028 elections.”

The post elaborated, “According to Ampaw, the NDC has already exhausted its propaganda against Dr Bawumia, which in his view, makes the former Vice President the strongest candidate for the party going into the next election.”

Ampaw emphasised that Dr Bawumia needs only 9% more votes to surpass the 50% threshold necessary for victory in 2028.

He remarked, “Wherever your brother has climbed, support him further, and you’ll also rise. Bawumia has reached a stage where he needs just 9% of the votes to win. It’s not the time to start over. Whatever needed to be said about Bawumia was already said in 2024. The insults and propaganda have been exhausted.”

According to Ampaw, any attempts by the NDC to undermine Dr Bawumia have already failed, stating, “There’s nothing that the NDC or anyone else can use against Bawumia in 2028.”

BoG assures GUTA of forex availability amid concerns

GUTA recently complained over the unavailability of forex at banks to conduct business GUTA recently complained over the unavailability of forex at banks to conduct business

The Bank of Ghana has assured the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) that it is working to ensure sufficient foreign exchange (forex) is available to traders on the exchange market.

This comes in response to recent complaints by GUTA regarding the shortage of dollars on the market.

The Union expressed concern over the persistent difficulties traders face in accessing foreign exchange through the banking system.

Speaking at the Graphic Business/Stanbic Bank Breakfast Meeting in Accra on July 15, 2025, Dr Obeng highlighted how the lack of reliable forex access is severely impacting business operations, particularly for importers and small-scale traders.

He noted that the situation has forced many traders to turn to the black market, where exchange rates are significantly higher and more volatile.

“There are many reasons why traders choose to do business with particular financial institutions. As I speak, we [traders] are finding it extremely difficult to access foreign exchange at the banks. The forex simply isn’t available, and we have some bankers present at this event who, I believe, should address this situation,” he stated.

However, in a statement sighted by GhanaWeb Business and issued by the GUTA President, the Association acknowledged the Bank of Ghana’s assurance to promptly address the issue.

“Following numerous complaints by members of the business community about difficulties in accessing foreign exchange from commercial banks, a meeting was held between the Bank of Ghana and the leadership of GUTA, during which the Bank assured the business community that there is enough forex available, and that there is no cause for alarm,” the statement noted.

It further stated that the central bank is currently engaging commercial banks to determine the cause of the perceived forex shortage and urged calm in the market.

“The Bank of Ghana also intimated that it will communicate with the commercial banks to find out the cause of the perceived shortage, and will do everything necessary to resolve the problem. In light of this, the leadership of GUTA is asking members of the business community to remain calm as the Central Bank works to resolve the issue,” it added.

The statement concluded with a call for feedback from members: “However, members should report to us if the problem persists.”

Bawumia deserved special protocol at NPP Confab

0

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Divine Agorhom, has defended the party’s decision to allow its 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to address delegates during the just-ended National Delegates Conference.

His remarks come in response to complaints from some presidential hopefuls within the party who expressed dissatisfaction over being denied the opportunity to speak at the event held on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.

While they allege being sidelined, Dr. Bawumia was granted the opportunity to speak, sparking accusations of unfair treatment.

Speaking in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Monday, July 21, Mr. Agorhom dismissed the concerns and insisted that the protocol afforded Dr. Bawumia was appropriate, considering his position as a former Vice President and the NPP’s immediate past flagbearer.

He clarified that no official nominations for the party’s next presidential candidate have been opened, and as such, no individual currently holds the status of a presidential aspirant.

“We must put it on record that as we speak now, we have not opened nominations. So, we don’t have any aspirants for that matter. We’re all equals. We’re all equal party members. Except for the fact that we had a former Vice President in our mix, so we needed to give him that protocol, that respect,” he stated.

Responding to the criticism over Dr. Bawumia’s address to delegates, Agorhom stated that the former Vice President merely waved at party faithful and delivered brief remarks, which should not be seen as a breach of fairness.

“He [Bawumia] walked around to wave at the party people, some of whom had come from various regions. I don’t see anything wrong with that. The opportunity Bawumia had was to wave at the party people. Given the opportunity to wave at the people, what’s wrong with that? What is the problem with this?

“We should be careful not to take away a successful conference by looking for faults where there aren’t any. The matter should rest,” he stated.

The NPP’s National Delegates Conference was held to reaffirm party structures, mobilise support and amend its constitution ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Ghana safe despite ammunition transfer concerns

0

Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has assured the public that the country remains safe, stable, and peaceful, despite recent concerns surrounding national security.

Speaking about the current state of the nation, at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, July 21, Dr. Boamah stated:

“It is with confidence and pride that I state that to a very large extent, Ghana is SAFE, STABLE, PEACEFUL AND READY TO EXPERIENCE HER GOLDEN AGE UNDER THE RESET AGENDA.”

His remarks come amid questions about the transfer and handling of military ammunition in 2024. Dr. Boamah acknowledged the irregular transfer of thousands of rounds of ammunition from the Ghana Armed Forces to the National Security outfit, noting that the whereabouts of the transferred ammunition remain unaccounted for.

Despite this, the Defence Minister emphasised that the government has maintained national stability and order, underscoring the country’s readiness to enter what he described as a “golden age” under the Reset Agenda.

“We have kept our nation safe and stable notwithstanding the irregular transfer of thousands of rounds of military ammunition in 2024 from the Ghana Armed Forces to the National Security outfit. Ammunitions which have since not been accounted for,” he stated.

Hassan Ayariga is under scrutiny regarding the source of his crime statistics Hassan Ayariga is under scrutiny regarding the source of his crime statistics

Hassan Ayariga, leader of the All People’s Congress (APC) and former presidential candidate, is facing scrutiny over the source of his crime statistics.

He recently claimed that Nigerians are primarily responsible for various crimes in Ghana, stating, “How many Nigerians are in this country causing trouble? The crime rate in Ghana, particularly armed robbery, is predominantly linked to Nigerians.”

Ayariga claims his data is sourced from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

He also alleged that prostitution in Ghana is largely perpetrated by Nigerians.

On July 21, 2025, an X post by @Sikaofficial highlighted Ayariga’s remarks, stating, “Leader of the APC and former presidential aspirant, Hassan Ayariga, on where he got his statistics purporting to show that Nigerians rank highest as perpetrators of various crimes in Ghana.”

Black Queens players celebrating their win against Algeria Black Queens players celebrating their win against Algeria

Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, Member of Parliament for Ada and First Deputy Majority Whip, has sent a strong message of support and caution as the Black Queens gear up for a historic semifinal clash against hosts Morocco at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Black Queens advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2016 after edging past Algeria in a nerve-racking 4-2 penalty shootout following a goalless draw on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

They now face a formidable challenge against the Atlas Lionesses at the Stade Olympique de Rabat on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, with a coveted place in the final on the line.

In her message, Cudjoe-Ghansah extended warm congratulations to the team, praising the players not only for their resilience but for inspiring countless young girls across the country to believe in their sporting dreams.

“This victory doesn’t only bring glory to Ghana, but it also ignites hope of every young girl who dreams of rising through sports to represent our beloved country,” she said.

As excitement builds for the semifinal, the First Deputy Majority Whip urged the Queens to stay focused and carry the nation’s hopes with pride.

“We urge them to carry the hope and prayers of the entire nation with pride and confidence,” she added.

But alongside her praise, the Ada MP delivered a firm reminder to all political actors and Ghanaians to resist using the team’s remarkable journey for political gain.

“This is woman power, it is not political power but women power, and the women are performing so nobody should politicise them. All we need is victory,” she stressed.

A win for the Black Queens will see them play in their first WAFCON final in nearly two decades.

Usyk Stops Dubois To Cement Legacy As Undisputed Heavyweight Champion

0

Oleksandr Usyk with his titles

Oleksandr Usyk reaffirmed his status as boxing’s premier heavyweight with a clinical fifth-round stoppage of Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium, solidifying his place in history as the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the four-belt era.

The 38-year-old Ukrainian, already a former undisputed cruiserweight king and Olympic gold medallist, weathered Dubois’ early pressure before dismantling the Briton with trademark precision and timing. Usyk first floored Dubois with a sharp lead right hook during a fierce exchange, sending the Londoner to his knees.

Though Dubois beat the count, Usyk sealed the contest moments later with a perfectly timed left hook, toppling his rival onto his back. Unable to recover, Dubois was counted out as Usyk dropped to his knees in tears of triumph.

The victory extends Usyk’s dominance over Dubois, whom he previously stopped in 2023 after surviving a controversial beltline strike that Dubois’ camp insisted should have counted as a knockdown. Dubois, riding high from a stunning knockout of Anthony Joshua last year, entered the rematch with renewed belief and began confidently, pressing forward and landing heavy rights. But Usyk’s slick southpaw jab, feints, and surgical counters gradually wore him down.

With the win, Usyk remains unbeaten at heavyweight, adding another chapter to his storied career. He never lost the IBF title in the ring but was forced to vacate it ahead of this bout after prioritizing his rematch with Tyson Fury. Dubois, elevated to full champion before this fight, now sees his reign end abruptly.

“Thirty-eight is only the start,” Usyk said afterward. “This is for the people, for our world. Now I want to rest and go home to my family.”

A deflated Dubois, 27, vowed to return: “I gave everything I had. There are things I could have sharpened up on, but I’ll be back.”

Women’s Africa Cup of Nations: MPs praise Black Queens

0

By Godwill Arthur Mensah

Accra, July 21, GNA – Members of Parliament (MPs) on Monday commended the senior women’s national soccer team, the Black Queens, for their steady progress and remarkable performance at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2024) in Morocco.

The Black Queens defeated Algeria in the quarter-final stage last Saturday to qualify for the semi-final for the first time since 2016.

The House praised the players, the Ghana Football Association, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Technical Team for their hardwork, outstanding performance and resilience shown so far in the tournament.

Mr. Ernest Henry Norgbey, the Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, in a statement read on the floor of Parliament on Monday, urged Ghanaians both home and abroad, to rally behind the team to achieve more laurels and bring home the coveted trophy.

“This achievement is not only a sporting milestone, but celebration of Ghanaian resilience, unity and excellence. The Black Queens have consistently demonstrated commendable resilience, focus, and commitment throughout the tournament,” the lawmaker stated, adding,” they have, indeed, represented the nation with dignity and strength both on and off the field.”

The Ashaiman Legislator noted that at a time when the younger generation sought inspiration and leadership, the Black Queens had stood tall as an embodiment of what can be accomplished through hardwork, teamwork and belief in oneself.

The legislator said the team’s achievement aligned with the government’s broader resetting agenda across all sectors of the economy.

“The Parliament of Ghana stands firmly behind the Black Queens as they continue their quest for glory,” he assured.

He underscored the need for more investment in sports infrastructure to unearth sporting talents and enhance sports development in the country.

Mr. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo and Ranking Member on Youth and Sports Committee, joined in applauding the heroic performance of the Black Queens in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

He observed that the success of the team was anchored on the foundation laid by the previous New Patriotic Party government that invested in women’s premier league with infrastructure and logistical support.

Other members of Parliament also lauded the Black Queens and underscored the need to support the team devoid of partisan politics as the team takes on the host nation, Morocco, in the semi-final stage of the tournament on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

I pray NPP remains divided – Volta NDC Chairman

0

The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor, has sparked controversy with a bold statement following the recent National Delegates Conference of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the outspoken NDC chairman declared that he “wishes and prays” the NPP remains divided ahead of the 2028 general elections.

According to Mawutor Agbavitor, the internal cracks and power struggles observed within the NPP during their delegates conference are a “blessing in disguise” for the NDC and the people of Ghana.

He explained that a disunited NPP poses less threat to the NDC’s electoral fortunes and provides Ghanaians with a clear alternative to what he described as “years of mismanagement and hardship” under the current government.

“Hmmm… as for the NPP, they are just playing and making a mockery of themselves. The first thing I would advise them to do is learn how to live together. That is a party torn into stress. Even when it comes to doing the right thing, they can’t. I’m not here to advise them, but I wish and pray that the NPP will continue to be disunited. In fact, I pray that they remain disunited to the point where they can’t even come together to ask anyone to vote for them. That is my prayer for the NPP. I don’t wish them well, I don’t wish them to survive, and I don’t wish them success in returning to power,” he said.

When asked why he harbours such sentiments, Mr. Agbavitor replied:

“Aaah, why should I wish them well when their Ashanti Regional Chairman alone can walk into Exim Bank and take several millions of cedis to splurge on fancy cars? The same chairman goes and destroys our forests and water bodies, and you expect me to allow this party to return to power and destroy the country again? We have children, and the future of this country is critical. Look at the corruption everywhere — at COCOBOD, GNPC, and all state institutions. I don’t wish the NPP well,” he alleged.

He also responded to recent remarks by the Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference in Accra accused the NDC government of worsening the living conditions of Ghanaians.

Afenyo-Markin cited rising fuel prices, unfulfilled campaign promises, and failed efforts to curb illegal mining as evidence of “glaring betrayal” by the current administration.

“Their pledge to end galamsey has crashed into chaos. The president calls it a national emergency, yet refuses to declare a state of emergency,” Afenyo-Markin said, accusing the government of paying lip service to the fight against illegal mining.

He also condemned what he described as coordinated attacks on Ghana’s judiciary.

“They have vowed to reset our nation, but it has become a brazen assault on our judiciary, starting with the shameful vilification of our Chief Justice,” he said.

He further alleged that the NDC is scheming to divert Ghana’s mineral wealth to party cronies and accused the party of orchestrating violence in the recent Ablekuma North by-election rerun.

“Worst of all was the questionable Ablekuma North rerun, where NDC-affiliated thugs attacked our candidate Nana Akua Afriyie and former MP Hawa Koomson,” he said.

“The message is clear: the NDC is a failure, and Ghana deserves better,” Afenyo-Markin added.

In response, Mawutor Agbavitor dismissed the Effutu MP’s claims, describing him as a man “hungry for attention and popularity” within the NPP.

“Afenyo-Markin knows what he’s doing. He’s good at lies and wants to become popular — probably to be considered as a presidential candidate for their party. He knows that what he’s saying is not the truth,” Agbavitor asserted.

He further alleged: “He should go and answer questions at ECG where issues were raised during his tenure as Board Chairman. Beyond that, he is always shouting in Parliament just so people will hear his voice — and that is exactly what he is doing.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he is “100 per cent” sure the club followed the right processes when dealing with former midfielder Thomas Partey, who was under police investigation for multiple counts of rape while he was playing for the club.

The Ghana midfielder, 32, left Arsenal at the end of his contract on 30 June and four days later was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The offences are reported to have taken place in 2021 and 2022, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement on 4 July.

The charges involve three women, with two counts of rape relating to one woman, three counts of rape in connection to a second woman and one count of sexual assault linked to a third woman.

Partey denies the charges and “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name”, his lawyer has said.

Detectives started a investigation in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape.

Arsenal are in Singapore for their pre-season tour. They play AC Milan and Newcastle before travelling to Hong Kong to play Tottenham.

Arteta was asked in a news conference before they play Milan on Wednesday about the situation with Partey.

“The club was very clear in its statement,” Arteta said. “There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment on any of that.”

He was then asked: “A lot of fans have questions over the way in which the matter was handled by the club. Do you feel confident and comfortable that the club followed all the right processes in that?”

Arteta answered: “100%, yes.”

Partey is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 5 August.

He joined Arsenal for £45m from Atletico Madrid in October 2020.

He made 35 appearances in the Premier League last season and scored four goals as Arsenal finished second.

He also played 12 times in the Champions League as the Gunners reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by eventual winners Paris St-Germain.

‘Ghana movie industry and Black Stars are cursed’ – Prophet Kumchacha

0

Prophet Kumchacha (pictured) says the Ghana movie industry is cursed Prophet Kumchacha (pictured) says the Ghana movie industry is cursed

Controversial Ghanaian pastor, Prophet Kumchacha, has once again stirred social media with claims that the Ghanaian movie industry is cursed.

Speaking on United Showbiz on July 21, 2025, Kumchacha expressed support for actress Gloria Sarfo, who recently voiced concerns about the challenges faced by actors in the industry.

According to him, the sector is plagued by internal strife.

“There is a serious curse on the movie industry and the Ghana Black Stars. The curse stems from hatred and backstabbing. We were here when LilWin premiered his movie, while he was busy promoting it, others were backstabbing him. So I applaud Gloria Sarfo for calling out creatives in the industry,” he said.

Kumchacha further argued that Nigeria’s success in the creative arts is not simply due to its large population.

“It’s not just about numbers. If we can produce good quality movies, people will definitely watch them. Quality matters more than quantity,” he emphasised.

NPP’s new rules could create more chaos than solutions

Sammy Ayer has voiced concerns per the motions adopted by NPP's recent delegates conference Sammy Ayer has voiced concerns per the motions adopted by NPP’s recent delegates conference

Presidential Aide for Government Communications, Sammy Ayer, has criticised key motions adopted at the NPP’s recent Delegates Conference, warning they could create more confusion within the party than solutions.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day, Ayer said the new rules, particularly Motion 46, which requires appointees such as ministers or CEOs to resign at least 24 months before contesting for flagbearer, could be problematic.

“What happens if the person is the Vice President or even the President?” he asked.

He also raised concerns over Motion 10, which compels party executives to resign upon appointment to public office, but fails to clarify how their replacements should be selected.

Addressing Motion 35, which designates the National Chairman as party leader, Ayer questioned if this was an admission that President Akufo-Addo had weakened the party’s leadership structure.

“They’re trying to strengthen the Chairman’s role in case of another weak president,” he remarked.

Ayer supported Motion 9, which proposes electing the party’s Communication Officer rather than appointing one.

He believes this would ensure greater accountability and improve communication strategy, something he claims the NPP lacked during the 2024 elections.

“While the NDC was offering policy solutions, the NPP lacked a clear, consistent message. These reforms may help, but they also expose the party’s past failures,” he concluded.

In a TikTok clip that’s now making the rounds, the Ghanaian forward gives a rare glimpse into his impressive home and enviable fleet of cars, reminding everyone just how far football can take you.

The video starts with Tetteh strolling through the courtyard of his all-white mansion, exuding quiet confidence in a simple, laid-back outfit.

Off to the side sits a sparkling swimming pool, the perfect final touch to a home that’s both elegant and unmistakably his.

While his off-field lifestyle speaks of success, Tetteh has backed it up with his performances on the pitch.

The 28-year-old striker, who is on loan at NK Maribor from French club FC Metz, enjoyed a strong run last season.

Cathedral Board Speaks Out –

0

The Board of the National Cathedral project has expressed disappointment about President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to the Attorney General to take steps to dissolve it in spite of ongoing investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

In a release dated July 18, 2025 and signed by Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah, the Board states “the Board is disappointed to note that, despite ongoing investigations by state agencies such as the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), the President has instructed the Attorney General to take steps to dissolve the Board without any formal findings of wrongdoing.”

This, the Board finds “particularly troubling given that, acting on the President’s directive, the Board was actively engaged in discussions with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on the future of the project.”

The Board also notes that during the press conference on the subject, a full disclosure was not made, the engagement only focusing on “the Management letter and not the actual audit reports for 2020-2023. This is rather strange.”

The Press Conference, the Board observed, “was skewed towards queries in the Management letter, totally disregarding detailed responses of the Board. The queries and responses form the content of the Management letter which was in the possession of the minister.”

The Government Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has announced that President Mahama has tasked the Auditor General to audit the National Cathedral project because the auditing firm, Deloitte did not cover all aspects of the work.

Acting CJ raises alarm over rising ethical breaches among lawyers

0

The Acting Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has expressed grave concern over the increasing incidence of ethical misconduct among legal practitioners, highlighting a recent case involving a lawyer accused of stealing a colleague’s mobile phone at the Tema Court.

According to Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, the lawyer in question even participated in the search for the missing phone, feigning ignorance, until he was caught attempting to sell the stolen device.

Speaking at the commissioning of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Law School Moot Court on Monday, July 21, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie emphasized the need for stronger systems to prepare students for the ethical demands of the legal profession.

“Just as you feel disgusted by students dressing shabbily to come to school, you must be wondering how a lawyer manages to pass through the school. I happen to be the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council, and the sort of infractions and ethical breaches that appear before us make you wonder where the world is heading,” he remarked.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie urged legal education institutions to not only focus on academic excellence but also instill strong ethical values to safeguard the integrity of the profession.

Eastern Libya deports 700 Sudanese migrants Eastern Libya deports 700 Sudanese migrants

Eastern Libyan authorities have deported hundreds of Sudanese nationals to their war-stricken homeland as part of an intensified clampdown on irregular migration and human trafficking. The mass expulsion marks a troubling chapter for many Sudanese who fled violence, only to face further hardship in Libya.

According to a statement released Saturday by Libya’s Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration, approximately 700 Sudanese migrants were expelled by land on Friday after being detained in various parts of central and southeastern Libya.

The statement cited several reasons for the deportations, including infectious diseases such as hepatitis and AIDS, criminal records, and undisclosed “security reasons.”

This operation is the latest in an ongoing anti-smuggling campaign led by forces loyal to eastern military commander Khalifa Hifter. Authorities have stepped up raids across key trafficking corridors in eastern and southern Libya.

Just last week, the Libyan coast guard reportedly intercepted a vessel off the coast of Tobruk carrying 80 migrants bound for Europe. Earlier this month, a dramatic raid in the town of Ajdabiya uncovered a trafficking warehouse where 104 Sudanese migrants, including women and children, were being held captive. They were freed by local security forces.

Libya, with its long Mediterranean coastline and porous borders, has become a major route for migrants fleeing conflict and poverty across Africa and the Middle East. The country’s political instability since the 2011 NATO-backed ousting of Muammar Gaddafi has fueled a thriving illicit trade in human movement, aided by a patchwork of rival governments and armed militias.

Many of the deported Sudanese had originally sought refuge in Libya following the outbreak of conflict in Sudan in April 2023. A power struggle between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces triggered widespread violence and displacement.

“He Had the Opportunity to Read a Speech” – Joewise Denies Bawumia Got Special Treatment

0

Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Organizing Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, has refuted claims that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was unfairly favored during the party’s recent delegates conference held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, according to a report by MyNewsGH.

Speaking on Peace FM, Osei Owusu clarified that all aspirants were treated equally and no preferential treatment was extended to any individual.

He stressed that Bawumia’s opportunity to address the gathering stemmed from his status as a former Vice President, not from any manipulation by the organizing committee.

“Our former Presidents didn’t attend; we have only one former Vice President because the other is dead. He had the opportunity to read a speech… that meant he had to use the field to connect to the stage,” Osei Owusu stated, insisting the arrangement was protocol-based rather than favoritism.

His response follows criticism from Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, who accused organizers of giving Bawumia exclusive access to the inner perimeter of the stadium.

According to campaign spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng, such access allowed Bawumia to engage directly with delegates, unlike other aspirants who were confined to the outer perimeter.

Kwarteng suggested the scene was “clearly engineered” to create the impression of overwhelming support for the former Vice President, warning that similar orchestrations had contributed to past electoral setbacks.

He urged delegates to reject “stage manipulations” and instead support candidates based on genuine grassroots backing.

Despite the backlash, the committee maintains that the setup reflected Bawumia’s official role and not an attempt to influence delegate perception.

Ashanti Business Group challenges Police over fake insecticide imports

0

The Ashanti Business Owners Association has vehemently denied allegations made by the Ashanti Regional Police Command that some of its members are involved in the importation of fake insecticide products.

This comes after the police arrested three persons for allegedly dealing in fake products and subsequently organised a press conference on Friday, July 21, warning the public against the use of these products — a move the group has described as an attempt to collapse their businesses.

The police claimed the suspects were dealing in counterfeit insecticide products that do not meet the standards of the Ghana Standards Authority and are, therefore, harmful to the public.

Reacting to the allegations, the Ashanti Business Owners Association dismissed the claims, emphasising that the said products are neither fake nor inferior.

Speaking at a news conference in Kumasi on July 20, the group clarified that the insecticide products in question meet the standards of the Ghana Standards Authority and are, therefore, legitimately being sold on the market.

“How is it that the said fake product has a manufacturing date, an expiry date and a batch number, but the one Ghana police service claims is genuine has no manufacturing date, no expiry date and has no batch number?

“Kill It’ is a product that is not manufactured in Ghana. It is manufactured in the People’s Republic of China for a company that is based in England. What happened is that there is an agent for Ghana, and agents for other African countries.

“So the products the police saw within these shops were from products from Nigeria. We all know that as a country, we operate a liberal market so far as we are able to satisfy regulatory requirements. It is true that there is an agent for Ghana, but when it comes to the market.

“There are no restrictions on what kind of goods can come into our market. The products they identified within the market are genuine products from the same company, that the sole producer from China to England, distributed to other countries that Nigeria is part of. On that note, we want to tell the public to disregard such speculations; they are not fake,” said the executive secretary of the Ashanti Business Owners Association, Charles Kusi Appiah-Kubi.

They have, however, assured the public of their readiness to collaborate with the police in clearing the market of fake products, while addressing the current confusion.

“We also know that there are a lot of products that come to our market through the Nigerian market, canned malt, Indomie, popular milk, among others. With the kind of information being circulated by the police, are they then suggesting that these products are not genuine? This cannot be so. Such issues destroy businesses. We are ready to cooperate with the police to ensure the right thing is done,” Charles Kusi Appiah-Kubi added.

The chiefs have appealed to President Mahama to reconsider the decision and remove Yakubu Issifu

Some chiefs and elders of Asante Mampong have raised strong concerns over the appointment of Yakubu Issifu, a northerner, as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.

They have appealed to President John Mahama to reconsider the decision and remove the newly appointed official.

Some aggrieved supporters of the party in the constituency stormed the party’s office on Thursday, April 10, 2025, vandalising property and setting some items ablaze outside the premises.

The youth claimed they had received information that one Esther Dwomoh had been nominated for the MCE position, though there had been no official communication from the Presidency.

According to them, three individuals, the 2024 Parliamentary Candidate Yakubu Issifu, the current Constituency Chairman Mohammed Kamil, and Imoro Iddrisu, were shortlisted after the vetting, and they insist one of them must be nominated.

The elders highlighted that the past indisciplinary actions by some supporters of the NDC in the area pertaining to the appointment of an Asante person as MCE remain unresolved, emphasising that the appointment of a northerner could fuel unnecessary tension

According to the elders, the manner in which the appointment was made was disrespectful to the local community, citing that some members of the NDC have openly declared their refusal to accept an Asante as MCE in the constituency.

The elders intimated that a reconsideration of the newly appointed Mampong MCE will aid in maintaining peace in the area, citing that the indigenous people are unhappy with the appointment

Ghana to host conference on Quantum Science and Skills Development

0

Ghana will this August become the focal point of global conversations around future technologies and workforce development as it hosts a major international conference integrating quantum science, technical education, and innovation.

The Africa Regional Conference & Exhibition on Education and Skills Development (ARC-EDS 2025) will take place from 5th to 7th August 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre, drawing participants from across Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America.

This year’s conference is uniquely significant. It will host the flagship African event for the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ 2025)—a global celebration declared by UNESCO to spotlight the transformative power of quantum science and its potential to address pressing global challenges.

The Accra-based gathering, themed “Harnessing Entrepreneurship and Innovation to Tackle Youth Unemployment”, will showcase how quantum technologies, TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training), and industry collaboration can drive innovation, economic growth, and job creation across Africa.

“Quantum science has moved beyond theoretical exploration—it is rapidly emerging as a foundational pillar in advanced computing, cybersecurity, energy infrastructure, and logistics,” said Dr. Augustine Larweh Mahu, a Mathematical/Theoretical Physicist and Lecturer at the University of Ghana, and a a leading voice in Ghana’s IYQ programme.

“ARC-EDS 2025 presents a rare opportunity to bridge this frontier science with real-world training and entrepreneurship,” he added.

Bringing Industry to the Table

Organisers say this year’s ARC-EDS will offer an expanded platform for industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors to engage with the future of work and technology in Africa.

The conference will feature sector-focused innovation tracks and a dedicated IYQ Innovation Pavilion, where companies can exhibit breakthrough technologies, sponsor student-led showcases, and engage directly with policymakers, educators, and innovators.

Participating firms will also have the opportunity to identify talent from Ghana’s leading STEM and Technical universities and explore partnerships with TVET institutions to shape future-ready skills and training models.

“ARC-EDS 2025 is where Africa’s skills agenda meets its innovation future. Industry leaders have a chance to shape how we train, innovate, and compete globally,” said Sarah Osei, Chair of the Local Organising Committee and Programme Lead at ESDEV Foundation Africa.

“We are creating spaces for technology firms, manufacturers, and service providers to connect with talent and contribute meaningfully to Africa’s transformation.”

Sectors represented will include telecommunications, health, finance, manufacturing, and energy, with a strong showing expected from Ghana’s industrial and state-owned enterprises, including the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, Volta River Authority, and Ghana Grid Company.

A Global Moment for Africa

With support from UNESCO, the African Union, UNICEF, British Council Ghana and over 30 universities and scientific institutions worldwide, the event is expected to attract more than 1,000 delegates, including students, researchers, investors, educators, and development partners.

A key highlight will be the launch of the F.K.A. Allotey Lecture Series in Quantum Science and Technology, named after the celebrated Ghanaian physicist.

The inaugural keynote will be delivered by a Nobel Laureate, according to Organisers. The event will also unveil a continental Agenda for Quantum Education, a framework designed to guide curriculum innovation, workforce training, and policy collaboration for quantum technologies across Africa.

Opportunity for Participation

Private sector companies are invited to exhibit technologies, sponsor sessions, or partner with educational institutions to promote innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Africa Regional Conference & Exhibition on Education and Skills Development (ARC-EDS) is an annual convening initiated by ESDEV Foundation Africa to advance inclusive education, employability, and innovation across Africa.

This year’s edition is being co-organised with the Technical Universities and partners across the public, private, and academic sectors.

Delegates Conference: NPP’s new rules could create more chaos than solutions

‘How can you watch for someone to insult Jesus?’

OB Amponsah (pictured) has questioned Empress Gifty for allowing Bullgod to insult Jesus OB Amponsah (pictured) has questioned Empress Gifty for allowing Bullgod to insult Jesus

Ghanaian comedian, OB Amponsah has expressed disappointment in gospel musician, Empress Gifty, following some utterances made by Bullgod during a discussion on UTV’s “United Showbiz”.

Bullgod sparked social media reactions when he addressed Jesus as a “fool”.

Reacting to Bullgod’s statement, OB Amponsah questioned Empress Gifty, who serves as the host of the show, for allowing the entertainment pundit blaspheme Jesus.

According to OB Amponsah, the gospel musician could have called Bullgod to order or asked him to retract his statement but Empress Gifty refused to do so.

“How can a gospel musician who is also a host of the show allow someone to insult the messiah back and forth.

“You could have gone on a strike until he rendered an apology. However, you didn’t do so. All you could do is to wear makeup and come sit on the show without doing anything,” he said.

‘On a mere say-so the judge will just respect what the AG says’ – Atta Akyea fumes

A photo collage of Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine (L) and Adu Boahene's lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea A photo collage of Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine (L) and Adu Boahene’s lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea

Samuel Atta Akyea, lawyer of embattled former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, has accused the Attorney General of pushing to get his client convicted.

Speaking after court proceedings on July 18, 2025, Atta Akyea, who is also the lawyer for two of the other three accused persons in the case, claimed that the Office of the Attorney General was dictating to the court.

He said that the Attorney General appears to be in a hurry to jail his client, but the laws of the country must be followed to the letter.

“I’m having a sense that justice might suffer if the Attorney General is in this ambulance mood… I believe that as if we are in an ambulance mood to get these people jailed… Even where we should wait for a motion to be heard, the Attorney General is in no mood to even respect the rules, and on a mere say-so the judge will just respect what he’s saying and obey it.

“I’ve seen several things in the court which is telling me that the Attorney General is having his own way in that court and whatever he says, then the judge wants to do it for him. Since we started these matters, that’s my strong view of the matter. And I’m afraid justice, whatever you want to call it, should never be at the expense of my clients,” he said.

Atta Akyea, whose motion for the adjournment of the trial was reportedly dismissed by the court on Friday, refuted assertions that he was harbouring some fears.

He claimed that there was an attempt to deny his client access to some evidence.

“I’m not afraid of the trial at all. I keep telling people that this is not the first trial I’m conducting. It seems to me that somebody believes that let’s expedite the case, even if all exculpatory evidence are not with the accused persons. That’s my chief concern. Because at the end of the day, what are you trying to secure? Is it justice on the side of the Attorney General or justice where you hold the scales as even?

“This is the first time I’m hearing that they might want to block exculpatory evidence in contravention of Article 19 of the Constitution, which secures fair trial. So we do what is needful, but nobody should have it at the back of his mind that somebody is running away from trial,” he said.
