The Office of the Special Prosecutor has disclosed that Prof. Ransford Gyampo who leads the Shippers Authority, called and sent texts to his office when the Office of the Special Prosecutor and National Security Operatives raided the offices of SML some weeks ago.
This revelation comes on the back of Gyampo’s calls on the OSP to be careful he is not pursuing Ken Ofori-Atta out of personal vendetta or to impress the current president to keep his job.

Joseph Boakye Danquah is a former NPP parliamentary aspirant for Subin constituency
A former NPP parliamentary aspirant for Subin Constituency, Joseph Boakye Danquah, has fully endorsed the ruling NDC government’s accountability initiative dubbed Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).
Sharing his thoughts on the ongoing accountability drive under the Mahama-led NDC government, in an interview with GhanaWeb on June 21, 2025, JB Danquah declared his backing for the ORAL operation.
In his view, the country can only develop if civil servants, public officials and the ordinary Ghanaian are held accountable in their areas of operation.
“Ghanaians are calling for accountability, why do you think Ghanaians voted for Mahama they way they did? It is because he told us during the electioneering campaign that he is going to undertake ORAL. He is going to hold people accountable. That is what motivated Ghanaians to vote for him.
“Me, the honest truth is that I did not vote for President Mahama but I like what he is doing. I am for it [ORAL]. You see, if Ghana can move forward, we have to learn to hold people accountable-from the classroom teacher to the president. Everyone must be held accountable. No one is above the law,” he said.
He expressed disgust over the rot that has been uncovered at the National Service Authority (NSA) regarding ghost names in the payment system.
He also lamented the seeming exploitation of sweepers at the waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
He described the Ghc250 monthly wages of the workers at the waste management company as being “beyond inhumane”.
He subsequently, called for regular audits to expose graft which has become endemic in the country to ensure accountability is upheld at all levels.

In a display of cultural diplomacy and global solidarity, the Government of Ghana and the Indian High Commission marked the 11th International Day of Yoga with a historic joint celebration at Osu Castle—an iconic symbol of Ghana’s heritage.
The event reinforced yoga as more than an ancient wellness practice—it became a bridge of shared values, public health awareness, and bilateral friendship between Ghana and India.
The celebration, attended by high-ranking government officials, diplomats, yoga practitioners, students, and civil society actors, highlighted the convergence of two nations committed to human well-being, peace, and cross-cultural understanding.
Under the theme “Yoga for Self and Society”, the program emphasised how the ancient Indian discipline continues to offer answers to modern challenges of mental health, lifestyle diseases, and social disconnection.
Wellness as Soft Power: India’s Strategic Cultural Diplomacy
Delivering the opening remarks, India’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Manish Gupta, made a compelling case for yoga as a cornerstone of India’s cultural diplomacy and a gift to the world.
“Yoga is not confined to mats and postures—it is an evolving science of life, rooted in balance, breath, and self-awareness. It aligns the body, mind, and spirit to serve society better,” he said.
He lauded Ghana’s robust engagement with yoga over the past month through regional observances in Tamale, Kumasi, Ho, and Cape Coast, facilitated by local partners.
“Your enthusiasm reaffirms that yoga is a truly universal language—free of politics, religion, or race,” he added.
Personal Testimony, National Message
In a rare fusion of personal experience and public service, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, shared a moving reflection about her father’s devotion to yoga and how it may have contributed to his longevity of 106 years.
“Watching him stand on his head with such grace as a child taught me that wellness is discipline—and joy,” she recalled.
Her speech, though deeply personal, struck a national chord as she called for greater inclusion of yoga and wellness practices in Ghana’s national health and cultural agenda.
“Today’s celebration is not just ceremonial; it is a call to reflect on how we treat our bodies, how we manage stress, and how we live in community,” she said.
A Strategic Wellness Conversation: Health, Youth, and Development
Also present was Kofi Iddie Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, whose participation signaled government interest in integrating alternative wellness models like yoga into mainstream health promotion, sports policy, and youth development.
As lifestyle diseases rise and mental health becomes a national concern, the event provided a fresh conversation starter on preventative health and community-centered wellness.
The celebration included mass yoga sessions led by certified instructors, breathing exercises, mindfulness meditation, and a showcase of traditional Indian and Ghanaian cultural expressions—blending drumming, music, and rhythm to create a multisensory wellness experience.
A Cultural and Diplomatic Milestone
The presence of both Indian and Ghanaian symbols—flags flying side by side, drummers performing alongside sitar melodies—gave the event a symbolic weight far beyond a physical workout.
It marked a renewal of cultural cooperation, reminding both countries of their shared values: spiritual growth, discipline, communal harmony, and peacebuilding.
“This is not just about yoga. It is about how we see health as a whole person experience,” said one participant from Ho, who attended with her family.
“It shows that Ghana and India are not just trade partners—we are partners in people.”
Looking Ahead
As the sun dipped over the Atlantic behind the castle, participants dispersed not just with relaxed muscles but with renewed minds—bearing witness to a rare convergence of policy, tradition, diplomacy, and personal transformation.
With both countries looking to strengthen bilateral relations beyond trade and technology, yoga now stands as a strategic symbol of soft power, shared humanity, and visionary leadership in global wellness diplomacy.

Popular Ghanaian entertainment pundit, Ohemaa Woyeje has disclosed that hiplife musician, Okomfour Kwadee is mentally stable after months in a psychiatric hospital.
In a discussion on United Showbiz on June 21, 2025, Ohemaa Woyeje noted that the musician was put in a rehabilitation centre through the help of an unknown individual.
“Currently his condition is okay, he looks very fine. But we don’t know the person who sent him to the care home. Like I said he is fine. But you know since he is stable right now he doesn’t have to stay there.
“His mother even called me to ask me if there is any place he can stay so that he won’t go back to the drugs anymore,” she said.
She also noted that the only challenge they are currently facing is finding a conducive place the musician can stay, in other not to engage in drugs anymore.
“His mother is in Accra right now. I spoke to the MUSIGA president and the funds Kwadee received are with him. So we are looking for a place that can accommodate him. A place where people won’t get access to him. And influencing him into doing drugs again,” she added.
Okada rider survives machete attack in Boinso, suspect arrested
A commercial motorbike rider, Emmanuel, popularly known as Suro Obaa, narrowly survived a brutal machete attack on the night of June 20,2025 at Boinso in the Western North Region.
The incident reportedly occurred between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. while Emmanuel was returning home from work.
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police reports, the attack happened at a notorious stretch of rough road in Boinso where motorcyclists often reduce speed due to poor conditions.
In an adomonline.com report on June 21,2025; while cautiously navigating the area, Emmanuel was suddenly ambushed by an assailant wielding a machete.
He sustained multiple deep cuts to the head and neck and bled profusely. His life was saved by the timely arrival of another motorbike rider, whose presence forced the attacker to flee the scene.
Despite his critical condition, Emmanuel managed to name his alleged attacker as Abu, also known by the nickname Subzero, a fellow okada rider in the community.
He further identified Abu by a distinct Barcelona football jersey he was wearing during the assault an outfit police later confirmed was on the suspect at the time of his arrest.
Emmanuel is currently undergoing emergency surgery at the Samartex Hospital in Samreboi, near Enchi.
The suspect is in custody at the Enchi Municipal Police Station as investigations continue.
Though police have yet to confirm any charges beyond the assault, some community members allege that the suspect may be linked to a local syndicate believed to be involved in the trade of human body parts.
The allegations are reportedly connected to a string of unexplained disappearances involving strangers who boarded commercial motorbikes in the area.
Law enforcement authorities have assured the public that thorough investigations are underway to uncover the motive behind the attack and assess the credibility of the community’s claims.

Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson
Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has urged the government to assess the trust and loyalty of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.
While acknowledging the OSP’s independence, Koomson raised concerns about potential bias in favour of members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on Ahotor FM on Saturday, June 21, 2025, he warned that such partiality could compromise the objectivity of corruption investigations.
“Even though Kissi Agyebeng is independent-minded, his trust and loyalty must be assessed,” Koomson said.
Amid calls for the dismissal of the Special Prosecutor, the labour leader instead recommended his reassignment to ensure public confidence in ongoing investigations under the Office of Recovery of Assets and Loot (ORAL), an initiative spearheaded by President John Dramani Mahama.
“I have no personal issues with the Special Prosecutor. But loyalty is crucial, and I believe the government should find alternative ways to handle ORAL cases without involving the OSP,” he added.
Abraham Koomson further proposed the establishment of specialised courts to expedite the adjudication of ORAL cases.
He cautioned that relying solely on the traditional judicial system could delay justice and dilute the effectiveness of the President’s anti-corruption drive.
Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) is a flagship anti-corruption initiative launched by President John Dramani Mahama.
ORAL aims to investigate corruption cases, retrieve stolen resources, and prosecute offenders.
It is designed to restore public trust and ensure accountability in governance.

To leave a lasting impression at a remarkable event, the choice of gown is paramount. For women aiming to stand apart, the secret lies in selecting designs that harmoniously combine sophistication with a dash of boldness. A distinctive gown need not be ostentatious or overly theatrical; it should instead offer a novel perspective on glamour, showcasing individual style while breaking away from typical fashion conventions.
Imagine a gown made from opulent velvet or intricately woven jacquard—fabrics that elevate any ensemble with their rich texture and understated elegance. When crafted into sleek silhouettes such as a one-shoulder design or a striking asymmetrical hemline, these materials exude a brand of elegance that conveys self-assurance in a subtle manner. The key is to discover those surprising features—like an eye-catching sleeve, a tailored bodice, or an unconventional cut—that draw attention and create a memorable impression.
Color is a vital element in achieving a standout look. While many attendees may opt for traditional shades such as red, gold, or black, a woman who desires to be distinctive might choose deep hues like emerald green, royal plum, or soft champagne with a shimmering finish. These colors, though not always the obvious selections, evoke a refined boldness that feels both noble and invigorating.
Designs that effectively blend classic influences with modern trends provide another way to strike a perfect balance between uniqueness and sophistication. Picture a floor-length gown featuring a high collar and bishop sleeves, reminiscent of vintage elegance, yet paired with a daring thigh-high slit for a contemporary edge. Alternatively, envision a mermaid-style dress softened by layers of delicate tulle that float gracefully behind with each step—an ideal mix of drama and refinement.
Accessories are equally important. A gown can be transformed with the right choice of earrings or a stylish structured clutch that adds a touch of flair without overwhelming the outfit. However, the true key to making an impression lies in how one carries the gown. Confidence, poise, and comfort in one’s ensemble will always shine more brightly than any sequins or feathers.
For the woman intent on being unforgettable, the aim is not to overshadow others, but to present herself as the most elevated version of who she is. This is the essence of a fashion statement that leaves a significant impact.

The Lawra Municipal Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has raised urgent concerns over the absence of life jackets and other safety equipment for operations along the Black Volta River, days after a boat accident claimed the lives of seven students from Lawra SHS.
In an interview with Citi News, the Acting Municipal NADMO Director, Mr. Nyolee Ang-guyiri Ament, revealed that the office currently has no life jackets in stock—a situation he described as deeply troubling given the recent tragedy.
The Black Volta, a major source of transport and livelihood in the area, has now become a symbol of grief for the entire community. The loss of the seven students has cast a dark shadow over Lawra, prompting renewed scrutiny of safety measures on the river.
“We think if we get such materials, we will put mechanisms where at least we will monitor on a monthly basis to ensure that they are used for their intended purposes,” Mr. Ament said, expressing frustration over the inability to enforce safety protocols without the most basic equipment.
NADMO says it is shifting from reaction to prevention, planning to launch public education campaigns and community engagement sessions to raise awareness on safety and emergency preparedness across riverside communities.
Lawra Municipal Coordinating Director, Adongo John, disclosed that although the Disaster Management Committee had previously distributed life jackets to canoe operators, many were not used appropriately.
“We have realised that most of them are relaxed with the use of the life jackets, but we need to intensify our efforts and ensure that they adhere strictly to the use of the life jackets,” he said.
Beyond the official response, some residents are demanding more permanent solutions. Canoe operators and passengers are calling on the government not only to supply life jackets but to construct a bridge across the river to improve safety and ease transportation.
“We suffer crossing the river during the rainy season, and our challenge is when some canoe operators don’t have enough experience to paddle us across the canoe and end up capsizing. So we plead with the government to come to our aid with safety measures to ensure our safe crossing,” Kofi Addei, a passenger, told Channel One News.
“We passengers take the risk of crossing the river always without life jackets, and it’s worrying. We do not have any option but to cross because our families and farms are across the river. We plead with the government to come to our aid with life jackets and also construct the bridge,” added another passenger, Kwesi Sampson.
The tragedy has ignited calls for immediate and sustained government intervention to ensure no more lives are lost on the Black Volta.

Nigerian sprinter and 150m world record holder, Favour Ofili, has reportedly switched allegiance to Turkey, just three months before the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, PUNCH Online reports.
Ofili’s switch was first announced by Jamaica-based journalist Kayon Raynor.
“Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili has switched allegiance to Turkey as of May 31, 2025. According to impeccable TVJ News centre sources, 22-year-old Ofili has advised the Athletics Integrity Unit of her frustration with the Nigerian Athletics Federation,” Raynor posted via X.
He added that Ofili cited missing the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the failure of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the Nigeria Olympic Committee to register her for the 100m event at the last games in Paris.
“Ofili stated that the Nigerian Athletics Federation caused her to miss the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after they did not confirm her number of doping control tests, and then missed competing in the 100m at the Paris Olympics after they did not enter her for the event. She was sixth in the 200m final.
“It’s further understood that Ofili impressed upon the AIU that her switch to Turkey was not for financial reasons.”
Favour Ofili was not listed for the 100m at the Paris Olympics by AFN
PUNCH Online has contacted Ofili and the AFN, but both have yet to respond as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the World Athletics still lists Ofili as a Nigerian athlete on its profile.
The 22-year-old is one of the Nigerian athletes who have qualified for the World Championships, which will be held from September 13 to 21 in Tokyo.
She made history at the Adidas Atlanta City Games in May by setting a new world record in the 150m, clocking 15.85s to break the previous mark of 16.23s held by Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo.
The Turkish athletics body has been shopping for athletes this year, including Jamaicans, and reportedly pay as much as $500,000 to foreign athletes to switch allegiance to the European country.
Following administrative lapses, Nigeria has a rich list of athletes like Francis Obikwelu (Portugal) Gloria Alozie (Spain), Florence Ekpo-Umoh (Germany), Salwa Eid Naser (Bahrain), Femi Ogunode (Qatar), amongst several others, who dumped the country for other nations and went on to excel in their careers internationally.

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has responded to Professor Ransford Gyampo’s statements expressing hope that he (Agyebeng) is not being driven by a personal vendetta in the ongoing investigation of former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta.
In a strongly worded statement shared on the OSP’s official X account on June 22, 2025, Kissi Agyebeng cautioned the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority and other appointees to refrain from any form of inferences regarding the investigation of former Minister of Finance, Kenneth Ofori Atta.
He emphasised that the former minister is currently undergoing investigations on allegations of corruption and corruption related offences.
“The attention of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has been drawn to a comment made by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Ransford Gyampo (PhD) suggesting that the OSP’s investigation of suspect Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta is born out of a personal vendetta.
“The OSP wishes to place on record that its actions involving the former Finance Minister are based on stated allegations of corruption and corruption related offences particularly abuse of office for profit, including the multiple-year contract awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML),” the statement said.
The OSP added that though it welcomes criticism of its work, public officials should refrain from interfering whether directly or through unfounded public statements with ongoing investigations.
Afrobeats sensation Tiwa Savage has reflected on her journey to stardom, revealing that beginning her music career in her 30s turned out to be a major advantage, even though she didn’t see it that way at the time.
In a recent interview with Afrobeats Intelligence, shared on Instagram on Saturday, the singer shared that entering the industry as a more mature woman helped her stay grounded and focused on what truly mattered—building a lasting legacy rather than chasing short-term fame.
Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah a former government spokesperson and now a member of the Kennedy Agyapong team, has revealed that 187 parliamentary candidates have pledged their support to the former Assin Central lawmaker.

Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Edudzi Tamakloe
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has reassured citizens that the country is well-prepared for any disruptions in global oil supply, as tensions intensify between Israel and Iran.
Speaking to the media in a video shared by Joy News on June 21, 2025, the Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Edudzi Tamakloe, confirmed that Ghana’s petroleum reserves are currently robust.
“I can assure the good people of Ghana that currently, as we speak, we have enough stock or reserve to last us beyond two months,” he stated emphatically
According to Tamakloe, Ghana holds over 200 million litres of petrol and an additional 150 million litres of diesel, amounts he described as more than sufficient to maintain an uninterrupted supply in the event of global shocks.
“For petrol, that’s over 200 million litres of petrol in the country. When you look at diesel, we have an excess of 150 million litres. So these are enough stocks that can last the country for a long time,” he added.
He further expressed confidence that the ongoing escalation in the Middle East, particularly potential disruptions in shipping through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, would not adversely affect fuel availability in Ghana.
Tamakloe’s assurances coincide with the government’s decision to pause the implementation of the GH₵1 per litre Energy Sector Levy, citing the need for careful monitoring of international market developments before proceeding with the levy’s rollout.
Shippers Authority CEO Professor Ransford Gyampo has intensified calls for President Mahama to declare a state of emergency over illegal mining, citing worsening environmental destruction despite government efforts.
The academic and anti-galamsey campaigner revealed ongoing political interference, stating party affiliates are actively undermining the Interior Minister and police chief’s enforcement actions.
Civil society leaders echo these concerns, with Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey convenor Kenneth Ashigbey demanding immediate repeal of Legislative Instrument 2462 permitting forest reserve mining.
The calls follow warnings from One Ghana Movement’s Senyo Hosi about bipartisan political capture of the mining sector, urging citizens to protect natural resources as an existential national priority.
With water bodies and forests facing irreversible damage, environmental advocates warn Ghana’s ecological future depends on decisive executive action beyond current measures.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has revealed that Professor Ransford Gyampo, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, contacted the Office via phone and text messages during an ongoing search of the premises of Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).
The disclosure comes in response to recent remarks made by Prof Gyampo, who suggested that the OSP’s investigation into former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta may be motivated by personal vendetta rather than objective legal grounds.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Sunday, June 22, the OSP firmly rejected this claim, stressing that its actions are rooted in clearly stated allegations of corruption and corruption-related offences.
These include the alleged abuse of office for personal profit in connection with the awarding of a multi-year contract to SML.
According to the OSP, Prof Gyampo made attempts to reach the Office while officers from the OSP and the National Security Secretariat were lawfully executing a search warrant at SML’s premises.
“While the OSP welcomes criticism of its work,” the statement read, “it cautions public officials to refrain from interfering — whether directly or through unfounded public statements — with ongoing investigations.”
The Office warned that such conduct could jeopardise the fight against corruption and erode public confidence in accountability mechanisms.
Prof Gyampo called for fairness and neutrality in the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) ongoing investigation into former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
Speaking during a panel discussion on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, June 21, Prof Gyampo voiced concern over the manner in which the investigation is being conducted.
“I hope the OSP is not motivated by vendetta,” he stated.
The move has sparked criticism from some observers who argue that the OSP could have explored alternative approaches to obtain information from the former minister.
Among the options raised were virtual interrogation or dispatching investigators to meet him abroad.
Despite Mr Ofori-Atta’s legal team had requested a video conferencing session due to his health condition, however, this was turned down by the OSP, which maintained that he had not been formally charged and must comply with standard investigative procedures.
Suggestions that the OSP could send officers abroad to meet the former minister were also dismissed by the Office on grounds of cost to the public purse.
In response, Prof Gyampo emphasised the need for greater clarity regarding Ofori-Atta’s medical condition.
“It is important to find out if Mr Ofori-Atta is not sick. Because being sick is not an easy matter,” he remarked.
He further questioned the OSP’s track record in handling high-profile corruption cases, pointing to past instances where investigations launched with public fanfare failed to yield substantive outcomes.
“And the OSP, they have in the past started so dramatically but, in the end, we saw nothing. Look at the Cecilia Dapaah case,” he said.

Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned party members and supporters against injecting religious and tribal sentiments into internal discourse, describing such tactics as divisive and dangerous.
Addressing the NPP Constituency Chairmen Caucus Conference in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, June 21, 2025, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the party urged members to uphold the party’s long-standing tradition of unity and inclusiveness.
“It is very, very important that we don’t allow people to come in with explanations that are not factual, that are made up, and that divide our party,” he said.
Dr Bawumia emphasised that the NPP is a united political force composed of people from all ethnic and religious backgrounds and warned against political opportunism that seeks to exploit religion and tribe.
“We are a united party, encompassing people from all ethnic groups, all religions. We are part of the elephant family. We must not allow people, for the sake of political advantage, to tear us apart as a party. I am saying this because people are going religious and tribal. That is dangerous for the NPP and very dangerous for us,” he cautioned.
Dr Bawumia cited findings from the Oquaye Committee Report, which, according to him, confirmed that religion and tribe were not determining factors in the 2024 general elections.
“My 4.7 million votes, was it only Muslims who voted for me? It’s not possible. They were all different voters. When President Kufuor lost, did we say it was religion? When Nana Akufo-Addo lost, did we say it was religion? That is not a factor. People want to make it a factor for political reasons,” he stressed.
He added that if religion were genuinely a barrier within the party, he would not have contested the flagbearership in the first place.
“If that was the case, I wouldn’t have contested at all. I would have stepped aside because I’m not a selfish person. I value the party. I will not jeopardise the ability of the party to win the 2028 election. It’s too important. I would have stepped aside,” Dr Bawumia said.
His remarks follow recent comments made by the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, in which he reportedly claimed that Christians can never vote for a Muslim to become President of Ghana.

Artiste manager Bullgod has expressed disappointment in Ghanaians happy over the arrest of Kofi Boat
Artiste manager and entertainment pundit Bullgod has expressed disappointment in Ghanaians who are celebrating the arrest of three individuals allegedly involved in a $100 million fraud scheme.
Speaking on United Showbiz on June 21, 2025, Bullgod, who claims to have a close relationship with one of the suspects, Kofi Boat, said he finds it troubling that some netizens are rejoicing over the news of his arrest.
He emphasised that, in his view, Kofi Boat is not a fraudster, stating that it’s possible he may have been implicated in fraudulent activity without his knowledge.
“Kofi Boat is my good friend. I was in court myself to support him. My concern is about the substance of the case… The Kofi Boat I know isn’t like that. I can only say that from where I sit,” he said. Those jubilating and those disappointed over the case should give themselves time because time will vindicate those innocent and guilty,” he said.
Bullgod also expressed his support for Kofi Boat’s wife and family during this challenging time.
He further revealed that Kofi Boat’s extradition case at the magistrate court has been adjourned to July 1, 2025.
“All I will say is that my strength to Kofi Boat’s wife and family. I was there to support him and his family.
“After his lawyers and the state prosecutor argued… The judge has adjourned to July 1, 2025. The lawyers of Kofi Boat were amazing because their arguments were solid,” he added.

Former President of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), Katrina Adams
Former President of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), Katrina Adams, is thrilled to be in Ghana, where she is leading a tennis clinic alongside former ATP Top 100 player Roger Smith.
The clinic, organised by the Africa10 Foundation and the Ghana Tennis Federation, aims to inspire and energise young players and coaches through interactive training and mentorship.
Adams expressed her excitement, citing recent successes by players like Coco Gauff and Madison Keys, saying, “It’s really exciting… hopefully, our kids are getting excited about wanting to be in tennis.”
Additionally, Katrina said she is passionate about sharing her knowledge with Ghana’s youth, emphasising the importance of representation and motivation in sports.
She also stressed the need to extend this enthusiasm globally, particularly to Ghana.
“I know we are in America, and hopefully, they are getting excited in the rest of the world, and particularly here in Ghana,” she added.
Adams, who is headlining the two-day event with former Bahamian tennis star Roger Smith, noted that the goal of the clinic is to inspire and energise young players and their coaches through engagement, training, and mentorship.
Tennis players aged between seven and 17 will receive guidance from Adams and Smith at the clinic, which has been organised by the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) in partnership with the Africa10 Foundation (A10).

Beyond her success on the court, she made history as the first African-American and former professional player to lead the USTA.
Ghanaian media personality and entertainment pundit Nana Romeo has expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of support creatives receive in the entertainment industry.
Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie on June 22, 2025, during the one-week observation of the late highlife musician Dada KD, Nana Romeo stated that he does not foresee any significant development in the creative arts sector.
He attributed the stagnation of the industry to partisan politics, which he believes continues to divide stakeholders.
“I don’t foresee any progress because it has always been the same and it will always be the same. Because the problem with the industry is that it is divided because we have NPP and NDC folks.
“If the NPP is in power the NDC will not root for the success of the industry. This is the same way if NDC is in power. So we don’t even pray that we progress because why should I pray for the industry to thrive when it is not my party in power?” he said
Meanwhile, tons of notable personalities, including the Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe, Wofa 1, Nana Acheampong, Kojo Antwi, and others, were present to sympathize with the family of the late Dada KD during his one-week observation held in Accra.

Farshi shalwar design is a timeless expression of South Asian heritage, rooted in the opulence of Mughal and Nawabi culture. The word “farshi” is derived from “farsh,” meaning “floor” in Persian, and appropriately so—the garment is designed to trail along the floor in elegant, sweeping folds. Traditionally worn by royal women in the Indian subcontinent, the farshi shalwar is known for its luxurious volume, intricate embellishments, and graceful drape.
A farshi shalwar typically features a heavily flared lower portion that begins from the waist and expands dramatically past the ankles, often extending out several feet on the floor. It is paired with a long kameez (tunic) and a dupatta (scarf), forming a complete ensemble that speaks to grandeur and cultural richness. The design usually includes heavy embroidery, zardozi, gota work, or intricate threadwork—making it ideal for bridal wear, formal events, and traditional ceremonies.
Though steeped in history, the farshi shalwar has evolved to suit modern aesthetics. Designers today experiment with fabrics like chiffon, silk, jamawar, and organza to offer lighter, more wearable variations without losing the essence of its royal charm. Fashion houses in Pakistan and India have revived this classic silhouette, showcasing it on runways and wedding platforms with a modern twist—combining it with structured blouses, asymmetrical tops, or fusion drapes.
In essence, farshi shalwar design bridges the past and present. It stands as a celebration of cultural legacy while embracing contemporary fashion sensibilities, making it a treasured piece in any traditional wardrobe.
Residents of Kugbagbokope, a small farming and fishing community in the Ketu South Municipality, have been left in shock after a man allegedly set his elder brother’s house on fire without any provocation.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025. The victim, Mr. Joe Kugbagbo, a 60-year-old farmer, lost nearly all his belongings when his house—constructed with coconut fronds—was engulfed in flames.
Speaking to the media in tears, Mr. Kugbagbo recounted the terrifying moment: “I was resting in my room this afternoon when I started feeling some intense heat and smoke around my room. By the time I rushed out, the room was burning.”
He further lamented, “I lost some kentes I have woven, clothes my children bought for me, and about Gh¢1,500 I saved from working. Now, I am left with only one ‘kniker’ and a shirt, and I don’t even know where to sleep.”
According to the Assembly Member for Nogokpo-Ativuta Electoral Area, Jonas Agbagba, the suspect, Gabriel Kugbagbo—who is the younger brother of the victim—was arrested and handed over to the Agbozume Police Command.
“The suspect confessed to pouring a substance suspected to be kerosene on the house,” Agbagba revealed.
“Because the building was made of coconut fronds, the fire spread quickly and destroyed everything.”
Eyewitnesses said Gabriel had earlier in the day made a threatening remark, telling his brother he would “show him,” though no recent disagreement was known between the two.
When the fire broke out and the suspect was apprehended, angry community members nearly lynched him, but Agbagba intervened to prevent mob justice.
The suspect is currently in police custody at the Agbozume Police Station as investigations continue.

In a colorful and culturally rich ceremony held on 20th June, 2025 Her Excellency Fidelia Graand-Galon, the Suriname Ambassador to Ghana, was officially installed as the Development Queen Mother (Noryaa Manye) of Otublohum Traditional Area in Ga Mashie, Accra. by Tetebotan Nii Dodoo Nsaki II, the Paramount Chief of Otublohum,
The historic event drew dignitaries from all walks of life, including prominent traditional leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, the Jamaican community in Ghana, and representatives of the African diaspora. They gathered to witness a symbolic moment of cultural unity and reconnection between Ghana and Suriname — two nations deeply linked by heritage and history.
In her acceptance speech, Ambassador Graand-Galon expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the honor and shared reflections on the long-standing cultural ties between Ghana and Suriname, particularly with the Ga people.
“I came to Ghana in 1997 to learn about the chieftaincy system, driven by a desire to trace my roots,” she recalled. “Many of our traditions in Suriname came directly from here. After more than two decades, I am proud to see that these systems are still alive — a testament to the strength and resilience of African culture.”
She was especially struck by the cultural and linguistic parallels between the Ga people and the Surinamese. “In Suriname, we still say ‘Agoo’ to ask for permission — just like in Ghana. That’s not a coincidence; it’s our shared heritage,” she said.
Ambassador Graand-Galon also emphasized the impact of colonialism on African identity, calling for a revival of African languages and traditions. “The first thing the colonizers took from us was our language. But I know who I am — I am African, and I will never forget my roots. That’s why I am learning local Ghanaian languages and encouraging others to do the same.”
In her new role as Noryaa Manye, she vowed to channel her efforts into tangible development for the Otublohum community. “In the name of Jesus whom I serve, I pledge to give my all for the development of Otublohum. The work is great, but I believe with unity, we can accomplish much.”
She further appealed for deeper collaboration between Africans on the continent and those in the diaspora. “We are one people. We need our African brothers and sisters to listen and open their arms to us. Our unity is our power.”
The installation of Ambassador Graand-Galon by Tetebotan Nii Dodoo Nsaki II stands as a profound milestone in the broader mission of reconnecting Africa with its diaspora, laying the foundation for future partnerships built on shared identity, history, and development.

Residents and commuters using the Three Junction–Ashalaja Road continue to raise urgent concerns about the worsening condition of the stretch, calling on government authorities to intervene as lives and livelihoods remain at risk.
The deplorable road, which connects key communities in the Ga West and Ga South Municipalities, is riddled with massive potholes, uneven surfaces, and inadequate drainage—issues residents say have gone unresolved for years.
“It is terrible, the other day a tricycle subsided into a ditch because of this, so we will plead with the government to fix the roads for us. We did not realise when they did the reshaping, a little after a vehicle knocked down a school girl a few weeks ago at Ohemaa Junction,” Isaac Kyei, a resident, shared.
Drivers, too, are bearing the brunt of the poor road network. Constant breakdowns and frequent trips to mechanics have become the norm, with many avoiding the road entirely.
“The road has always been like this, but it worsens when the rains set in, and it affects both passengers and drivers alike. We keep on complaining, but nothing is being done about it, so we will plead for the government to heed our cry. We are always visiting Abossey Okai for repair works on this road. Due to the constant damage on our vehicles, most drivers refuse to even ply the road, leaving a lot of passengers frustrated and stranded,” Abed Oduro lamented.
But beyond delays and mechanical breakdowns, the road has become a serious public safety issue. One young woman, who asked to remain anonymous, recounted how she suffered a miscarriage while traveling on the road—adding that emergency services often refuse to use the stretch due to its dangerous condition.
While residents recall sporadic efforts to patch the road, those interventions have been short-lived. Poor drainage and substandard materials have eroded previous works.
Former Assembly Member for the Manhean Electoral Area, Malik Abass, revealed that a recent reshaping exercise had little impact due to the onset of the rains.
Off the record, the Member of Parliament for Amasaman, Sedem Afenyo, told Channel One News that the project’s delay is partly due to pending budget approvals.
Meanwhile, Edwin Teye, Urban Roads Engineer for the Ga West Municipal Assembly, noted that once a contract is awarded, construction could take up to 24 months because of the extensive drainage works required.
“From Obeyeyie to Ashalaja, the road is in a really bad shape. We heard the assemblies have been given equipment to fix the roads, but it is not evident in the current state of the road. We are pleading with the authorities to come and fix the roads for us because we are really struggling,” added Isaac Mensah, a driver’s mate.
Residents say they are tired of broken promises and insist that immediate and lasting action is needed to restore the road and ease the suffering of the thousands who rely on it every day.
A commercial motorbike rider, Emmanuel, popularly known as Suro Obaa in the Boinso community of the Western North Region, has narrowly survived a vicious machete attack believed to have been aimed at ending his life.
The incident occurred on the night of Thursday, June 20, between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm, as Emmanuel was returning home from work.
According to eyewitness reports and police information, the attack happened at a notorious stretch of rough road in Boinso, where motorcyclists are often forced to slow down due to poor conditions.
While maneuvering cautiously through the area, Emmanuel was suddenly ambushed by an individual wielding a cutlass. The attacker slashed him multiple times in the head and neck. Bleeding profusely, Emmanuel was only saved by the timely arrival of another motorbike rider, which scared the assailant off.
Despite his injuries, Emmanuel was able to name his attacker, one Abu, also known by the nickname Subzero, a fellow Okada rider from the same town. He identified the suspect’s distinctive outfit, a Barcelona jersey, which police later confirmed was worn by Abu at the time of his arrest.
Emmanuel is currently undergoing emergency surgery at Samartex Hospital in Samreboi, near Enchi, while the suspect remains in custody at the Enchi Municipal Police Station pending further investigation.
Though no formal charges beyond the assault have been confirmed, some residents allege that the suspect may be linked to a suspected local syndicate involved in the sale of human body parts.
These allegations, according to community sources, are tied to previous cases of unexplained disappearances of strangers who reportedly boarded commercial motorbikes operated by individuals suspected to be members of the group.
Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack and to verify community concerns.

Araghchi adds that the US has “committed a grave violation” of the UN charter as a member of the UN Security Council.

Reacting to this on the United Showbiz programme on Saturday, Ghanaian comic actor and skit maker, Dr Likee, also known as Ras Nene, congratulated the veteran actress on her appointment.
“Mama, God bless you, we thank God for this appointment. May God be with you as you take up this new role. I’m very, very happy,” Dr Likee said.
Ras Nene further suggested that he wished she was rather appointed to serve as Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, indicating that it would have been an opportunity for him to visit the country for the first time.

Ghanaian entertainment pundits congratulated Kalsoume Sinare
Also speaking on the same show, media personality Nana Frimpong Ziga said Kalsoume Sinare is qualified and well-prepared for the appointment despite her background as a movie actress.
“I have always said that Kalsoume Sinare qualifies for a ministerial position despite the fact that she’s a creative person… This woman is overly qualified for that, and today, she has been given more than a ministerial portfolio. We wish her all the best,” Ziga said.
He further commended President Mahama for giving appointments to many individuals within the Ghanaian creative space.
“President Mahama has done well. In fact, apart from President Nkrumah and Rawlings, he has done better than anybody in terms of recognising and rewarding the creatives. He has not disappointed the creative people who supported his presidential bid,” he added.

The Public Relations Officer of the Burniton Music Group, owned by Ghanaian Afro-dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, has also congratulated the actress on her appointment as Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain.
She urged Kalsoume Sinare to collaborate with the cultural attachés at Ghana’s Embassy in Spain to promote Ghanaian culture in the European country.
“We have culture desks in all our embassies abroad to help promote our music, movies and culture and all the things we do in our creative spaces, but for a very long time, I haven’t seen anyone in charge of the creative space in the embassies championing this, and so having one of us there, I know her duties transcend the cultural attachés, but we want to see collaborations. We have Accra in Paris, I want to see us having Accra in Zaragoza or any of the cities in Spain,” Vida said.

Kalsoume Sinare’s expected diplomatic role
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Kalsoume Sinare would be responsible for promoting Ghana’s interests abroad, fostering diplomatic relations between Ghana and Spain, and facilitating trade and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Her appointment was a significant development that could have implications for Ghana’s diplomatic relations with Spain, particularly in the areas of cultural exchange, given her background as a movie actress.
She would be stepping into the new role with a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from GIMPA and a Bachelor’s in Public Service and Governance.
As Ghanaians continue to process reports of high-profile individuals being arrested by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over alleged involvement in fraud-related activities, a group of flashy partygoers in Accra have made it clear they remain unfazed.
In viral footage that surfaced on social media on June 22, 2025, a popular upscale nightclub in Accra became the scene of an audacious display.
The video shows a group of revellers, dubbed “ballers”, placing a lavish order for premium drinks.
Before the expensive bottles were delivered, a waiter paraded through the crowd holding a sign that read boldly, “F* the FBI.”
The video captioned “Ballers fully active,” quickly caught fire online, not just for its extravagance but for its brazen message aimed at the U.S. federal agency.
The timing of the stunt, amid ongoing investigations and arrests, has raised eyebrows and sparked heated reactions across social media.
Unsurprisingly, netizens have criticized the move, interpreting it as a direct provocation or mockery of the FBI’s recent operations in Ghana.
“Kwasiasɛm sei aaa then they will come and pick you up,” one user said.
“It’s all fun until you’re the one in custody,” another warned.
A third added, “FBI, recruit us to root all of them out. We value our image and will gladly cooperate.”
The incident comes in the wake of major developments in May and June 2025, when reports revealed that the FBI had conducted covert operations in Accra, leading to the arrest of several individuals, including well-known businessmen Nana Kojo Boateng, also known as Dada Joe Remix, and Isaac Kofi Oduro Boateng, popularly called Kofi Boat.
Sources have indicated that these individuals had long been under investigation by U.S. authorities for their alleged roles in complex financial crimes, including romance scams and money laundering.
Extradition proceedings are reportedly underway to have them stand trial in the United States.
Political scientist Dr Joshua Zaato has described Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the most experienced, credible and marketable politician in Ghana today aside President Mahama.
Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints on June 21,2025, Dr Zaato praised Dr Bawumia for his long-standing service in government, personal integrity, and ability to evolve within Ghana’s political space without scandal.
“Take Mahama out of the picture, and there’s no Ghanaian politician more intelligent, humbler, and more experienced than Bawumia. He’s been in government for nearly two decades without a single proven corruption case against him”, he stated.
According to Dr Zaato, the Vice President’s technocratic background and leadership in key policy areas such as digitalisation and the Ghana Card project distinguish him from other politicians.
While acknowledging that not all of Dr Bawumia’s proposals have succeeded, he argued that many were innovative and ahead of their time.
Dr Zaato also dismissed concerns about Dr Bawumia’s religious and ethnic identity, noting that data shows he enjoys strong support even in Christian-majority constituencies.
“He’s beaten Christians in many Christian-majority areas. Being a Muslim or a Northerner should not be used against him. It didn’t stop the current president, who is also from the north,” he said.
He described Dr Bawumia as ‘clean, calm, educated, and strategic,’ adding that his public image remains one of his greatest political strengths.
Dr Zaato clarified that his analysis was independent and not politically motivated.
“If I fall down here, the NPP won’t even know. I’ve never held a position in the party. I’m here because TV3 invited me based on my qualifications,” he indicated.

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has urged the Ghanaian government to accelerate its participation in discussions about renewable energy and shift from fossil fuels.
Speaking on KeyPoints on TV3 on June 21, 2025, Kpebu stated that while Ghana still depends heavily on crude oil, global energy trends rapidly move toward solar, wind, and other clean alternatives.
He advised the government to pay attention to more renewable sources of energy instead of depending on fuels.
“Governments should engage the citizenry more on how we are transitioning from crude oil to non-fossil fuels,” he asserted.
His comments come as concerns have been raised about the prices of fuel products amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
Experts have warned of potentially severe economic repercussions for Ghana if the war escalates, since the country is heavily dependent on imported fuels for its subsistence.
However, Kpebu pointed to the United Kingdom’s shift toward renewable energy, particularly in the North Sea, which has led to a decline in investment in oil and gas.
“The UK government is very clear that for them, it’s renewables; solar, wind, et cetera,” he explained.
He urged Ghana to learn from the UK’s approach, not only by developing a clear-cut renewable energy policy but also by ensuring the process is transparent and inclusive.
He referenced UK initiatives led by figures like Ed Miliband to encourage widespread adoption of home solar panels.
“There is a rooftop solar revolution in the UK. That’s what we also need to do, observe their conversation and replicate it,” he suggested.
Meanwhile, in a marked escalation, President Trump said he authorised U.S. military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, on June 21–22, 2025. These strikes involved 30,000-pound “bunker-buster” bombs delivered by B‑2 stealth bombers, along with Tomahawk missiles from submarines.
Trump declared the operation a “spectacular military success,” stating it “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program while warning of potential further action unless Tehran ceased escalation.
In the aftermath, Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli sites, and potentially U.S. forces in the region, prompting heightened regional alert and demands for de-escalation.

Speaking at Channel One TV‘s AgriFair at the Efua Sutherland Park in Accra on Saturday June 21, the minister stated that food security is fundamental to Ghana’s development, stressing, “We all understand that a hungry man is not a free man.
“So for us to free our people and give them absolute freedom, we need to produce food in abundance to feed the people of Ghana.”
According to Mr. Opoku, Ghana currently spends over $2 billion annually on food imports — a figure he described as economically unsustainable and paradoxical given the country’s rich agricultural resources.
“As we speak we import a lot of food into Ghana. Our food import is estimated above $2billion annually and so every year we throw away $2 billion to the foreign market to go and buy food to supplement local production. So clearly our agricultural landscape is a paradox which must be looked at critically.”
The minister pointed out that Ghana has all the essentials for agricultural success: abundant land, water resources, affordable labour, and access to regional markets through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
These factors, he said, place Ghana in a strong position to turn agriculture into a major driver of economic growth.
“Nature has bestowed on us a lot of agricultural potential… We have what it takes to use agriculture to engender economic growth,” Mr. Opoku emphasised.

Popular actor and politician, Femi Branch, is currently embroiled in some controversies, including an alleged assault on a film set; and an unpaid debt of over 10 years.
The actor was initially accused of assaulting an Assistant Director while on set, though he was said to have apologised to both the AD and other crew members.
Apparently unsatisfied by his apology, the film crew community released a statement that went viral.
The statement read, “On 18 June 2025, during a production shoot, an actor, Femi Branch, physically assaulted the first Assistant Director on set.
“He slapped the first AD in the presence of witnesses, violating not only professional boundaries but basic human decency.
“Under pressure, an assurance of apology was given. Filming resumed under the 1st AD’s instruction, and the actor later apologised to the 1st AD. and the entire crew.
“We commend the entire production crew for standing firmly against violence and upholding respect and integrity on set.”
In a video that trended on social media, an angry Femi was blocked from leaving the scene by some crew members. The actor could then be heard asking the director if he brought him on set to embarrass him.
Meanwhile, as this was going on, an X user, Pastor Timilehin, accused Branch of owing his father the sum of N9.7m.
In his post, Timilehin alleged that Branch borrowed the sum of N1m from his father, Tolulope Komolafe, in 2011, with an interest of N50,000 per month, which he claimed had now accumulated to N9.5m.
He wrote, “Dear @femibranch you borrowed the sum of 1 million Naira from Mr Akin Tolulope Komolafe (My Dad), since 2011 with interest of 50,000 per month.
“You have refused to pay to date. The accumulated sum is now 9.7 million. My dad helped you out when you needed it most. Now that everything has worked out for you, you have refused to pay him his money, despite all the efforts he has made to recover it.
“I just want to let you know one thing, you must pay that loan. If my dad fails to get it from you, I will get it from you or your children.”
He also shared a letter allegedly written by Femi and requesting for the loan in December 2011, to fund his film, Onile.
However, when Sunday Scoop reached out to Branch, he refused to comment, saying, “Please, I do not want to comment. I would appreciate it if you could respect that.”

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has responded to remarks made by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, over its ongoing investigation into former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta.
In a public notice dated Sunday, June 22, 2025, the OSP described Prof. Gyampo’s suggestion that the investigation is driven by a personal vendetta as “unfounded” and potentially damaging to the integrity of Ghana’s anti-corruption fight.
“The OSP wishes to place on record that its actions involving the former Finance Minister are based on stated allegations of corruption and corruption-related offences, particularly abuse of office for profit, including the multi-year contract awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML),” the notice stated.
The OSP’s response comes after Prof. Gyampo, speaking on TV3 on June 21, said he hoped the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, was acting out of “patriotism” and not personal animus.
“I hope the OSP is not motivated by vendetta but out of patriotism,” Prof. Gyampo said, adding that if the motivation is anything but patriotic, it could damage the reputation of the Special Prosecutor.
The OSP, however, rejected any insinuation of bias, revealing that Prof. Gyampo had also contacted the office while a legal search of SML’s premises was being conducted with support from National Security operatives.
“Incidentally, the said CEO called and sent messages to the Office in respect of SML while officers of the OSP and National Security were still conducting a legal search of SML’s premises,” the statement added.
While welcoming constructive criticism, the Special Prosecutor cautioned public officials against interfering—whether directly or through public commentary—in ongoing investigations.
“It cautions public officials to refrain from interfering—whether directly or through unfounded public statements—with ongoing investigations. Such actions have the potential to undermine the fight against corruption,” the OSP warned.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed nine new cases of Monkeypox (Mpox), bringing the total number to 107, with no admissions and no deaths, as of June 18, 2025.
In a latest update, the GHS said it remained vigilant across all 16 regions, actively monitoring infections through its surveillance system to prevent further spread.
It was also engaging in Social Behavioural Change activities in the various communities, schools and markets across the country to curb the spread.
Mpox is a viral disease caused by an orthopox virus called monkeypox virus. It spreads mainly through close contact with someone who has the infection, causing a painful rash, enlarged lymph nodes and fever, which can make people very sick and leave scars.
The disease mainly spreads from person to person through close contact and occurs through exposure to bodily fluids; lesions on the skin or on internal mucosal surfaces, respiratory particles and contaminated objects.
The GHS advised the public to remain vigilant, practice good hygiene, and avoid close contact with people showing signs of rashes, and report symptoms like fever, rash or swollen lymph nodes early to the health facilities.
“Wash hands frequently with soap and water or resort to the use of hand sanitizer, especially before and after touching sores. Let’s also wear the nose masks,” it said.
It also urged the public to ensure strict adherence to safety protocols to help contain the disease.
“Let us not drop our guard, if you notice an unusual rashes or flu-like symptoms, seek early care,” it said.
Experts have advocated the involvement of the media in creating awareness among the public as well as debunk misinformation and disinformation about the disease as cases keep increasing.
The inability to debunk misinformation and rumour would create panic, spread of the disease, confusion and lack of trust in institutions as well as have dire consequences on the economy.
They appealed to the media to help keep the public informed, create announcements, leveraging on social media platforms, help fact check information.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared Mpox a public health emergency of international concern last August, due to a new variant spreading in Africa.
Mpox has been recorded in over 13 African countries, marking the second WHO alert in two years.
As of last year, more than 17,000 suspected cases and 517 deaths were reported across Africa, according to the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
The WHO last year approved an Mpox vaccine, aimed at timely and increased access for millions at risk in Africa, where the latest outbreak has infected more than 20,000.
