Avoid outright sale of ECG

0

The Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union of Ghana (ICU-Ghana) has urged government to exercise caution in its approach to private sector participation in the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), warning against any move that could lead to the outright sale of the state-power distributor.

In a statement issued on January 1, 2026, the General Secretary of the union, Morgan Ayawine indicated that ECG remains a critical national asset whose operations directly affect households, businesses and industrial growth across the country.

He noted that while productivity and efficiency are essential for economic recovery, reforms within ECG must be handled carefully, given its strategic role in national development.

“Of particular concern is the issue of private sector participation in the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). As an essential public entity serving a wide spectrum of the Ghanaian populace, Government must exercise caution and avoid outright sale of ECG, while maintaining it as one of the nation’s most vital and indispensable assets.”

Meanwhile, ICU Ghana has also acknowledged ongoing efforts by government to stabilise the economy and create a positive recovery atmosphere but insisted that such gains must be supported by sound and practical socio-economic policies.

It further called on government to prioritise workable economic interventions that promote industrial expansion, warning that rising unemployment could undermine national progress if left unchecked.

“The positive atmosphere Government has created through its economic recovery efforts under the reset agenda must be sustained through the practical demonstration and application of sound socio-economic policies that will lead to an improved standard of living for the generality of Ghanaians.”

The union also urged employers to foster employee-friendly working environments that promote industrial peace and harmony.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a man called Stephen Kwakye on December 30, 2025, for conspiring to commit robbery against a gold miner at Manso Abrense near Manso Nsiana in the Ashanti Region.

Police said they received intelligence that Kwakye and other accomplices were planning to attack a victim who routinely transports gold to Kumasi for sale.

In a press release dated January 1, 2026, authorities said preliminary investigations revealed that Kwakye played a key role in organizing the robbery, including monitoring the victim’s movements and coordinating with accomplices to ambush him while in transit.

Fire sweeps through Tudu structures, GNFS contains blaze

0

A fire that engulfed several makeshift commercial and residential structures near SoccerBet at Tudu in Accra has been brought under control, authorities have confirmed.

The blaze, which broke out earlier on Wednesday, prompted a rapid response from the Ghana National Fire Service, with four fire engines dispatched from the Accra City, Ministries, Industrial Area fire stations and the Service’s National Headquarters to tackle the inferno.

Firefighters battled the flames for several hours, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures. Officials say no injuries were reported.

Following containment, personnel are conducting overhauling operations to extinguish lingering hotspots and fully secure the area.

The Ghana National Fire Service described the incident as an early warning of an anticipated active fire season in 2026, urging the public to remain vigilant and strictly observe fire safety protocols.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, and further updates are expected.

Enzo Maresca leaves Chelsea after just 18 months as manager | Football News

Maresca exits the club midway through a turbulent season with the team winning just one Premier League game in December.

Chelsea have parted ways with ‌Enzo Maresca, a dramatic fall from grace for the Italian who was named ‍Manager of the Month ‍for November before the club won just one of their last seven league games, causing them to fall out of the Premier League title race.

“Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have parted company,” the club said in a statement on Thursday.

Maresca, who joined Chelsea in 2024 after steering Leicester City to Premier League promotion, leaves 18 months to the day since he was tasked with reviving the club’s fortunes after two years of failing to qualify for the Champions League.

He eventually guided the London side to UEFA Champions League qualification with a fourth-placed finish, the Conference ‍League trophy and the Club World Cup title in his first season with a young but expensively built squad.

Poor run of form

However, a poor run of form in December and an uncharacteristic outburst from the Italian prompted the club hierarchy to take ‍action and part ways with the 45-year-old manager.

“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track,” the Chelsea statement said.

Chelsea were as high as third in November and were among the title contenders, high on confidence after they had also crushed Barcelona 3-0 in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge.

But they have since slipped to fifth in ‌the league to sit 15 points behind leaders Arsenal at the halfway stage of the season.

‘Worst 48 hours’

Last month, Maresca voiced frustration over issues behind the scenes, saying he felt he had a lack of support from the club, describing a period ‌after a 2-0 win over Everton as “the worst 48 hours” of his tenure.

The Italian did not clarify what he meant by the comment, but the damage ‌seemed to have been done as Chelsea’s league form nosedived.

Although Chelsea beat Cardiff City to reach the League Cup semifinals, they picked up only two points in their last three Premier League games.

Off the pitch, there was also the unwelcome distraction of rubbishing links to the Manchester City job as Maresca pointed out that he was committed ‌to Chelsea, where he had a contract until 2029.

But Tuesday’s 2-2 home draw with Bournemouth – where fans chanted, “You don’t know what you’re doing” when he substituted playmaker Cole Palmer while they also booed at the final whistle – proved to be his final match in charge.

The club did not say who would take charge before Sunday’s match against second-placed Manchester City.

Media personality Roselyn Felli has heaped praise on Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay, describing 2025 as one of the best years of the singer’s career and commending her resilience in the music industry.

Speaking on a show on Joy Prime on December 31, 2025, Roselyn stated that Wendy Shay stood out among female secular artistes in the year under review, proving her consistency and staying power, despite early criticisms.

“Truthfully, Wendy Shay has outdone herself in 2025. That girl stood tall among all the female secular artistes we’ve had this year. She’s proven herself that she is here to stay,” she said.

Roselyn recalled the challenges Wendy Shay faced when she first entered the music scene, including comparisons with the late Ebony Reigns and intense backlash from critics and social media users.

“I remember when she came on the scene, people felt she was going to fade off. The comparison between herself and Ebony, the backlash and trolls, she still stood tall,” she noted.

According to her, Wendy Shay’s perseverance and hard work have paid off, making 2025 a standout year in the artiste’s career.

“This year has been one of her best years ever. I will be happy to see her win Artiste of the Year even though it’s going to be tough,” she shared.

She further pledged her support for the singer, saying she would actively campaign for Wendy Shay because of the inspiration she has given to women.

“I will campaign for her any day and anytime. I will do that because I think she’s made women proud, she hasn’t given up and that’s the spirit that we want to see and she’s worked hard,” Roselyn added.

Ghanaians urged to strengthen Godly walk in 2026 for renewal

0

By Edward Acquah

Accra, Jan. 1, GNA – The Accra Ridge Church has urged Ghanaians to build and sustain a strong relationship with God in 2026, linking spiritual commitment to personal stability and national renewal.

Very Rev. Dr. Abraham Boateng, Youth Pastor of Accra Ridge Church made the call during the Church’s 31st Watch Night Service on Wednesday night to usher in the New Year.

Preaching from Numbers 6:22–27, he said God’s blessings, protection and peace were tied to a deliberate and consistent relationship with Him, rather than occasional religious observance.

“This declaration was for the people of Israel who had a relationship with God. You only have a one-in-a-year relationship, and you want this type of protection? Get serious with Christ. Get serious with God in 2026 and see what God will do in your life,” he said.

Very Rev. Dr Boateng explained that the biblical benediction – “The Lord bless you and keep you” – carried a personal and relational meaning, stressing that God’s intervention was directed at individuals who walked closely with Him.

“When we say blessing, it means God will come through for you at the time you need Him the most. That is our sure hope for 2026, he noted.

Very Rev. Dr Boateng noted that national prosperity, peace and resilience depended not only on economic policies and governance, but also on moral discipline, faithfulness and obedience to God.

He urged Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to avoid social vices and commit to upright living, drawing lessons from the Nazirite vow in the Bible, which demanded dedication and restraint.

“Have a vow with the Lord this year. Be intentional about your walk with God, and then you are assured of these blessings,” he said.

The Youth Pastor assured worshippers that God’s protection was constant and dependable, unlike human security systems.

“God’s protection is spiritual. It is 24/7. It does not change,” he said.

Very Rev. Dr Boateng encouraged Ghanaians not to be overwhelmed by fear, uncertainty or negative prophecies about the New Year, but to move forward with confidence anchored in faith.

“We know whom we have believed. If God’s name is upon you, you will not be afraid of what lies ahead,” he added.

The Watch Night Service concluded with prayers for Ghana’s peace, prosperity and stability in 2026, with the Church asking God to guide national leadership, protect citizens, and help the nation eschew social vices and moral decline.

‎Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, she joined party members and citizens at the event, which was held under the theme “Consolidating the Reset Agenda: Reflections on the Gains of the 31st December Revolution.”

‎The vice president stated that the revolution, led by Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, was born out of a determination to confront injustice, restore accountability, and uphold the dignity of ordinary Ghanaians.

‎She noted that the movement reshaped Ghana’s political consciousness and laid the foundation for the revolutionary tradition that later gave rise to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Rev. Dr. Bruce Endorses Five-Year Presidential Tenure Proposal

0

By Christopher Tetteh, GNA

Sunyani, Bono, Jan. 1, GNA – Very Rev. Dr. Solomon Bruce, the Superintendent Minister of the Sunyani Wesley Methodist Cathedral, has endorsed the proposal for a five-year presidential tenure, as recommended by the Constitutional Review Committee.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani at the church’s 31st all-night service of the Wesley Cathedral, Rev. Dr. Bruce expressed his support for the proposal, citing the need for a longer tenure to enable the president and government to execute their mandates effectively.

“For me, the five-year presidential tenure is good, because the four years is not enough for a particular office to execute all what is expected to do,” he said.

Rev. Dr. Bruce, however, urged the committee to ensure that the implementation of the five-year tenure is left to the next president, rather than the current one, to avoid any potential controversy.

“For posterity’s sake, President Mahama should leave the implementation of the five-year execution to whoever comes after him,” he said.

The reverend minister also commended the Constitutional Review Committee for its recommendations, amendments, and proposals, which, he believes, will facilitate accelerated national development.

He, however, expressed concern over the disparity in the remuneration of Article 71 office holders, describing it as “unacceptable” and a hindrance to national development.

Pastor Jerry Ohene-Acquah of the Church of Pentecost, Abetifi Worship Center, Sunyani, has called on Ghanaians to change their ways and desist from corruption in the year 2026 and   assured Ghanaians that God has better plans for the country, urging them to be disciplined and change their ways.

Pastor Ohene-Acquah also emphasized the need for processing factories across agricultural regions to add value to Ghana’s raw materials and agricultural products, boosting the economy, and creating employment opportunities for the populace.

The. church service was attended by several dignitaries, including traditional leaders and government officials.

Accra, Jan. 1, GNA – Several families across Accra welcomed joy in the New Year as the first babies of 2026 were delivered in hospitals in the Greater Accra Region.

At the Oduman Polyclinic in Accra, Georgina and Kweku Amankwaa of Ablekuma welcomed a baby girl, Yaa, born at 0021 hours and weighing 3.1 kilogrammes, making her one of the earliest recorded births in the capital.

The Greater Accra Regional Hospital recorded the delivery of four babies to three mothers within the first minutes of the New Year.

Midwives at the facility told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the births included a set of twins- a boy and a girl- born at 0015 hours to Mrs. Brown, as well as two baby girls delivered to two other mothers.

They said the deliveries were conducted through a combination of Caesarean section and vaginal births.

At the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, seven babies were delivered to five mothers in the early hours of the New Year.

Among them were Mr and Mrs Asamoah, who welcomed twins and described the birth as a special New Year gift.

“We have lost over five babies through miscarriages in the last four years. God has lightened up our 2026 and wiped away all our tears with these little bundles of joy,” Mr Asamoah said.

Another new mother, Miss Janet Mensah, aged 22, also expressed gratitude following a safe delivery.

“My Expected Delivery Date (EDD) was January 5, but when I attended antenatal yesterday, the doctors said I was due. I thank God for a safe delivery,” she said.

Founder of Believers Worship Centre, Prophet Adom Kyei Duah, has sparked discussions online following a statement he made to his congregation at the recently concluded crossover church service.

In a video shared on Instagram on January 1, 2026, which has received widespread criticisms, the popular pastor was heard advising his church members to sell all their properties and follow him.

He explained that those who take the bold step to sell their properties would be blessed.

“Listen to me; sell all your properties and come and buy Adom Nyame, because that is what I am offering tonight. After buying Adom Nyame, people around you will witness what the Lord will do through you. You will also prosper,” he said.

Pastorship is no license to beg for money – Kyei-Duah

Prophet Adom Kyei further emphasized that he does not fabricate lies or extort money from his congregation.

“Considering all the testimonies being shared in this house, if I were to take your offerings and tithes, it would imply that the God I am following isn’t able to provide. So, sell your properties and buy Adom Nyame.

“I won’t plan to extort money from you, and I will never beg to eat. I won’t create fear or panic to take your money. This is the Adom Nyame I have possessed,” he added.

Why are some African countries banning US citizens from entry?

0

ali and Burkina Faso have announced they are imposing full visa bans on United States citizens in retaliation for US President Donald Trump’s ban on US visas for their citizens this month.

The two West African countries, which are both governed by the military, on Tuesday became the latest African nations to issue “tit-for-tat” visa bans on the US. These follow Trump’s new visa restrictions, which now apply to 39 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The White House said they were imposed on “national security” grounds.

“In accordance with the principle of reciprocity, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation informs the national and international community that, with immediate effect, the Government of the Republic of Mali will apply the same conditions and requirements to US nationals as those imposed on Malian citizens,” the Malian ministry said in a statement.

Burkina Faso’s foreign minister, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traore, in a separate statement similarly cited a reciprocity rule for his country’s visa ban.

Which countries have issued bans on visas for US citizens?

The US directive issued on December 16 expanded full US visa bans to citizens of five nations other than Mali and Burkina Faso: Laos, Niger, Sierra Leone, South Sudan and Syria.

Travellers holding travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority were also banned from entering the US under the order.

The US cited the countries’ poor screening and vetting capabilities, information-sharing policies, visa overstay rates and refusal to take back their deported nationals for the ban.

Trump’s order also noted countries were additionally assessed based on whether they had a “significant terrorist presence”.

The US ban takes effect on Thursday.

Mali, Burkina Faso and neighbouring Niger have been plagued by violence from armed groups linked to al-Qaeda and ISIL (ISIS) for years. The violence in those countries has displaced millions of civilians.

On Friday, Niger banned entry for US citizens, also citing the US ban on its citizens. The country is also military-led like its neighbours Mali and Burkina Faso. All three formed the Alliance of Sahel States in July 2024 to tackle security problems and improve trade relations.

In its own reciprocal move, Chad stopped issuing visas to US citizens on June 6 with an exception for US officials. Only US citizens who were issued visas before June 9 are now allowed entry into Chad.

The country was on an initial list of 12 nations whose citizens the Trump administration issued a full visa ban on from June 9.

Which countries are affected by the US visa bans?

Citizens of 39 countries are now under full or partial entry restrictions to the US, according to the US-based Council on Foreign Relations think tank.

Those fully banned are:

Afghanistan

Burkina Faso

Chad

Equatorial Guinea

Eritrea

Haiti

Iran

Laos

Libya

Mali

Myanmar

Niger

Republic of Congo

Sierra Leone

Somalia

South Sudan

Sudan

Syria

Yemen

Holders of travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority are also fully banned.

Those partially restricted are:

Angola

Antigua and Barbuda

Benin

Burundi

Cuba

Dominica

Gabon

The Gambia

Ivory Coast

Malawi

Mauritania

Nigeria

Senegal

Tanzania

Togo

Tonga

Turkmenistan

Venezuela

Zambia

Zimbabwe

Is Trump specifically targeting African countries with visa bans?

Trump’s approach to Africa regarding visa entries in his second term as US president is similar to that of his first administration when he issued a “Muslim ban”, which included citizens of three African nations – Somalia, Sudan and Libya – as well as Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Iran.

In later updates to the ban, Sudan was removed while Chad was added.

Most countries under US entry restrictions since Trump took office on January 20 are in Africa. Of the 39 affected countries, 26 are African nations.

How have US-Africa trade relations fared under Trump?

Tradewise, the US has shifted away from its preferential African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) trade programme to a tariff-based regime that has also been applied to most other countries around the world under Trump’s tariffs policy.

From 2000, AGOA provided African nations with duty-free access to US markets, bolstering African exports to the US of a wide range of goods, from wine to cars.

AGOA created an estimated 300,000 jobs in African countries and indirectly sustained another 1.2 million jobs, according to the US-based Center for Strategic International Studies.

However, AGOA expired in September after the US Congress failed to renew it. Although the Trump administration said it supported a one-year extension, no steps have been announced to revive the programme.

Instead, African countries now face often steep tariffs as the US sometimes justifies them on political grounds.

South Africa, Africa’s richest country, for example, was slapped with a 30 percent tariff after Trump made debunked allegations of a “genocide” on the country’s white Afrikaner minority. The US government has since prioritised resettling Afrikaners as refugees in the US.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa met with Trump at the White House in May and explained that crime in the country targets the population at large – not just its white citizens – but was unable to persuade Trump.

Trump’s administration is also prioritising its access to critical rare earth minerals, used to develop high-tech devices, in a bid to remain competitive with China, which mines about 60 percent of the world’s rare earth metals and processes 90 percent of them.

Trump took up a mediator role in the conflict between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and neighbouring Rwanda this year after the DRC government proposed a minerals deal with the US. The US and United Nations accuse Rwanda of backing a rebellion by the M23 armed group in the eastern DRC.

Trump did not commit to US military intervention in the DRC but successfully secured a peace pact between the two countries on December 4 after applying diplomatic pressure on Rwanda.

Attacks on civilians by M23 have nonetheless continued despite the peace deal.

A clause in the pact granted US firms priority access to both the DRC’s and Rwanda’s mineral reserves, which include cobalt, copper, lithium and gold.

How about aid and security cooperation?

In early 2025, the Trump administration shut down the US Agency for International Development and cut billions of dollars of US foreign aid, affecting many African countries that greatly depended on the world’s largest funder of health and humanitarian aid.

Aid groups have since reported rising hunger in northern Nigeria, Somalia and northeastern Kenya.

Health observers and analysts have also raised the alarm about the risk of undoing work to prevent and contain the spread of HIV in Lesotho and South Africa.

In northern Cameroon, officials have reported a spike in malaria deaths as drug supplies fall. This month, the US unilaterally pledged $400m in health funding to the country over the next five years on the condition that Cameroon raises its own annual health spending from $22m to $450m.

African nations were also most affected when Trump recalled 30 career diplomats appointed by former President Joe Biden from 29 countries last week.

Fifteen of them had been stationed in African nations: Algeria, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia and Uganda.

Meanwhile, the US has continued to intensify strikes against armed groups linked to ISIL and al-Qaeda, similar to those during Trump’s first term as president from 2017 to 2021.

In Somalia, the US launched strikes in September targeting al-Shabab and the ISIL affiliate in Somalia Province, according to the US-based New America Foundation think tank.

The US also targeted ISIL- and al-Qaeda-linked groups in northwestern Nigeria for the first time on Thursday.

While those strikes were carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian government, a war of narratives prevailed between the two countries.

The US claims to be “saving” Nigerian Christians, who it alleges are experiencing a genocide.

Nigerian authorities, on the other hand, deny claims of genocide and say people of all religions have been badly affected by armed groups operating in the country.

‎According to him, he had only shared the vision with one person in his church prior to the 31st night service.

Life begins at 40: A reflection on experience and leadership

0

The adage “life begins at 40” has often been a subject of debate. Many have questioned the notion that one’s life only truly commences at this milestone age. However, upon reflection, it becomes clear that this phrase is not about the accumulation of wealth or material possessions, but rather about the acquisition of experience and the wisdom that comes with it.

As individuals navigate their lives, they encounter various challenges and setbacks that shape them into who they are today. It is through these experiences that one develops the capacity for introspection, recognising past mistakes and learning from them. This process of growth enables individuals to make better decisions and chart a more informed path forward.

As someone who began my corporate leadership journey in my 30s, I can attest that this period can be a powerful time for leadership. My experience suggests that leaders in their 30s can indeed make a significant impact, but often benefit from navigating various roles and challenges – going through the “mill” – to build their skills and perspective.

The Debate on Presidential Age Eligibility

In Ghana, a proposal has been put forth to lower the minimum age requirement for presidential candidates from 40 to 30 years old. While this may be seen as a progressive move, aligning with the increasing presence of young leaders in various spheres, it is pertinent to consider the value of experience in leadership roles.

A leader in their 30s may possess enthusiasm and innovative ideas, but they may also lack the depth of experience required to navigate complex situations and make informed decisions. This is not to undermine the capabilities of younger individuals, but rather to emphasize the importance of experience in effective leadership. A gradual ascent to leadership, starting from grassroots levels, can provide invaluable experience and preparation for higher office.

In Parliament, new entrants undergo rigorous training to understand the rudiments of parliamentary business, helping them contribute effectively to national discourse. Similarly, youth leading government agencies can gain critical experience that can be a stepping stone to higher leadership roles, including the presidency.

The Role of Experience in Leadership

Experience is indeed a great teacher, imparting wisdom and shaping one’s perspective. However, it’s also true that older leaders are not immune to mistakes. Sometimes, experience can lead to overconfidence or being guided by flawed counsel. The key is balancing experience with humility and strong institutions.

As former US President Barack Obama noted during his 2009 visit to Ghana, strong institutions, not just individual leaders, are the key to progress and prosperity. He emphasized the need for Africa, and by extension Ghana, to build robust institutions that promote accountability, transparency, and good governance. This underscores the importance of Ghana’s continued efforts to strengthen its institutions.

Ghana’s Progress under Effective Leadership

The current administration, led by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has demonstrated a commendable commitment to prudent decision-making, yielding positive outcomes for the nation. The economy is showing signs of stabilisation, with inflation rates decreasing and the cedi performing well against major currencies. Interest rates are also declining, creating a more favourable environment for businesses to thrive. The deliberate efforts of the government are gradually yielding results, and it is likely that the president’s experience and lessons learned have contributed significantly to this success.

In conclusion, while it is essential to recognise and nurture the potential of younger leaders, it is equally important to acknowledge the value of experience in leadership. As Ghana continues to develop, the emphasis should be on building strong, transparent institutions that promote accountability and good governance.

Recommendations

  1. Institutional Strengthening: Continue to prioritise the development of robust institutions that ensure accountability and transparency in governance.
  2. Youth Leadership Development: Encourage and provide opportunities for young leaders to develop their skills and gain experience at the grassroots level, in Parliament, and in government agencies.
  3. Experience-based Leadership: Recognise the value of experience in leadership and provide opportunities for seasoned leaders to mentor and guide younger leaders.
  4. Mentorship Programs: Establish formal mentorship programs that pair experienced leaders with younger leaders to facilitate knowledge transfer and skills development.

By adopting a balanced approach that values experience and nurtures young talent, Ghana can continue to make progress towards prosperity and stability.

Embrace Article 41 to achieve personal and national goals – Dr Mortoti to Ghanaians

0

Dr Prince Nelson Mortoti is the CEO of PIWAK Natural Health Dr Prince Nelson Mortoti is the CEO of PIWAK Natural Health

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PIWAK Natural Health, producers of the 3P Garlic Mixture, Dr Prince Nelson Mortoti, has called on Ghanaians to go beyond setting New Year resolutions and focus on consistency, discipline, and civic responsibility as key drivers of success and national development.

In a press release to mark the New Year, Dr Mortoti noted that while many people begin each year with enthusiasm and determination, that zeal often wanes as the months progress, leading to abandoned or poorly pursued goals.

He stressed that the difference between setting goals and achieving them lies in sustained commitment.

According to him, individuals, particularly those who serve as the backbone of their families, must strive for success through hard work, discipline, and by God’s grace and Allah’s guidance.

Bloody NPP Primaries, Deaths and More: 2026 prophecies by Owusu-Bempah

He identified Article 41 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution as a powerful yet underutilised tool that can help shape character, guide behaviour, and promote both personal and national progress.

Dr Mortoti explained that Article 41 outlines the fundamental duties and obligations of every Ghanaian citizen, emphasising that rights come with responsibilities.

These duties include promoting national unity, respecting and defending the constitution, working conscientiously, protecting public properties, paying taxes, safeguarding the environment, and contributing to community development.

He, therefore, urged tutors and educators to deliberately teach and explain Article 41 to students, so that by the time they complete their education and enter society, they are already grounded in their civic responsibilities.

He also appealed to religious leaders to incorporate the teaching of Article 41 into sermons and lessons in churches, mosques, and traditional homes, adding that homes and workplaces must equally play their part.

“Such a collective effort will help build the Ghana we all desire,” he stated.

Agradaa’s Release, Bawumia’s Win, Postponement of World Cup: 2026 prophecies by Nigel Gaisie

Touching on national cohesion, Dr Mortoti noted that Ghana is made up of people from diverse religious, ethnic, political, and ideological backgrounds.

Despite these differences, he said, the constitution demands unity and peaceful coexistence among citizens.

He referenced Romans 12:18, which says, ‘If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone,’ to reinforce the call for harmony and mutual respect.

“As a concerned citizen of Ghana, I urge all Ghanaians to put aside our differences and come together with love, skills, knowledge, strength, and the power endowed within us to work as one nation. United we stand; divided we fall,” he indicated.

Dr Mortoti stressed that hard work always yields rewards.

He expressed confidence that if citizens perform their duties diligently, Ghana would witness significant improvement across all sectors.

In such a nation, he added, citizens would no longer feel compelled to travel abroad in search of livelihoods but would instead choose to remain and thrive in the abundant opportunities available at home.

British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital in Nigeria days after a fatal car accident that killed two of his close friends.

The former world champion was deemed fit to recuperate at home, the Ogun and Lagos states said in a joint statement, describing him as “heavy hearted” over the loss of his friends.

The 36-year-old was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck on a major expressway in Ogun State, near Lagos, on Monday.

The two men who died were Joshua’s close friends and team members Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

After leaving the hospital on Wednesday, the Briton visited the funeral home where the bodies of his friends were “being prepared for repatriation”, the joint statement added.

Earlier, Eddie Hearn, who has promoted Joshua since he turned professional after winning gold at the 2012 Olympics, paid tribute to Joshua’s close friends and team members.

“Rest in peace Latz and Sina,” Hearn posted on Instagram.

“Your energy and loyalty among so many other great qualities will be deeply missed. Praying for strength and guidance for all their family, friends and of course AJ during this very difficult time.”

Ghami was Joshua’s full-time sport and exercise rehabilitation coach and worked with him for more than 10 years.

Speaking to the BBC on Wednesday, Ogun State police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi said “investigations are still ongoing” and described the process as “still discreet”.

The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) in Ogun state, where the accident occurred, has said preliminary investigations showed the vehicle had burst a tyre before crashing into the truck.

Joshua, who was born in Watford to Nigerian parents, was on holiday in Nigeria after his win over Jake Paul in Miami on 19 December.

Earlier, Tony Bellew, the retired cruiserweight world champion, posted on X: “Thoughts and prayers to the families of these men. Tragic losses in horrific circumstances!

“I hope he (Joshua) is able to process this with time because there is no pain in life worse than grief.”

Two-time undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and British former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury also posted Instagram stories to offer condolences.

Living Nostradamus shares his celebrity predictions for 2026

A man dubbed ‘Living Nostradamus’ has predicted that Sydney Sweeney will be able to dramatically salvage her reputation in 2026 despite her recent controversies, and that Gayle King will officially step back from CBS Mornings.

Athos Salomé earned his title after he accurately predicted dozens of world events including the Microsoft global outage and the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, he has laid bare his prophecies for the year ahead for some of the most contentious celebrities of 2025.

Sharing his forecasts exclusively with the Daily Mail, the 39-year-old Brazilian is adamant that Sweeney will change public perception and enter into a different league altogether next year following a very tumultuous few months.

He also turned his attention to King, Katy Perry and Blake Lively – all of whom have caused a media swirl of late – foreseeing career changes and image overhauls.

Here are all of his celebrity predictions for 2026.

Sydney Sweeney will repair her public persona after a disastrous end to 2025

After a troublesome end to the year, Salomé predicted that Sweeney will be able to salvage her reputation over the course of the next 12 months.

The 28-year-old Euphoria actress’s public persona began to implode in July when she took center stage in a controversial American Eagle jeans campaign.

The ad, which poked fun at her ‘good genes,’ was accused of promoting white supremacy.

Sweeney kept silent on the campaign until November, when she refused to apologize for it during a conversation with GQ, sparking even more backlash in the process.

Adding insult to injury, her recent biopic Christy, in which she played professional boxer Christy Martin, tanked at the box office – although her performance was praised by critics.

While Sweeney has been clinging onto her reputation in recent weeks, Salomé said he believes a U-turn is coming for her in 2026 as a result of her acting performances in the final season of Euphoria and in the upcoming live action Gundam.

‘Euphoria’s return guarantees distinction,’ he said. ‘The reunion of actress and character provides increased opportunities to win television accolades.’

The live-action take on Gundam will also be hugely beneficial for Sweeney, Salomé said.

‘Being in a huge franchise catapults Sweeney into a different league altogether,’ he predicted.

‘She evolves, flourishing from an emerging talent to a player. This evolution significantly alters her reputation, value and also creates fresh opportunities. Positions like these typically shape an actress career over years.’

Gayle King will reimagine her role in US media and step back from being a main co-host on CBS Mornings

After months of swirling rumors about her future at CBS Mornings, Salomé said that King will step back from being a main co-host in 2026.

Speculation about the co-host leaving the network has been rife over the last few months and reached a fever pitch in November when Variety reported that she could be handed a new role amid Paramount’s $8 billion merger with Skydance Media.

King, 70, downplayed any hearsay when asked about the report by the Daily Mail.

‘I’m still there, I’m planning to be there,’ she said, suggesting that she has no plans to leave anytime soon.

Salomé, however, predicted that the new year will see King reevaluate her role in US media and pivot her focus to more ‘flexible’ work.

He added that King will enjoy ‘less live exposure’ which will allow her ‘more room to approach bigger, more thoughtful projects.’

Gayle King will be re-evaluating her role within the media over the next year, Salomé has predicted

Salomé said the first main transition will occur within CBS and forecasted that Gayle will begin to move away from daily presenting duties by mid-2026.

Despite her predicted withdrawal, he does not believe King is ready to leave the network entirely.

‘CBS is about to restructure her role in a bid to keep her as a big name,’ he said, adding that ‘high-impact specials and big interviews’ will take center stage.

He suggested that King will grow increasingly detached from studio-based appearances, favoring field reporting and international travel.

‘I anticipate she will to be transitioned to a lower fixed salary to more project-based compensation, with more clout as an executive producer,’ said Salomé.

‘It gives her creative control and is also a powerful entity outside of traditional broadcasting.’

Katy Perry will reinvent her brand in 2026 as her relationship with Justin Trudeau grows

Salomé predicted that pop star Katy Perry will spend the next 12 months working on refining her brand as she continues to make strides with her new boyfriend Justin Trudeau.

The Firework hitmaker, 41, confirmed her romance with former Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, 53, at the end of October, months after they were first romantically linked – and months after she split from Orlando Bloom after nine years.

Salomé said he believes their romance will go from strong to stronger in 2026 and that they will establish themselves as a power couple.

He also predicted that Perry’s public persona will ‘enter a new phase of refinement’ next year.

‘After her prominent involvement in the 2024 US election, she is likely to reduce her engagement with politically charged topics,’ he added.

‘In 2026, her focus should shift towards consensus-building causes such as childhood, education, mental health and technology initiatives with social impact.

‘The larger perspective of 2026 is that of an artist now fully in development, one who balances the global public profile, individual reinvention and strategic choices that will define not only the course of her career, but also the way she will be seen in the next five or ten years.’

Blake Lively will undergo a transformation of her Hollywood career following the It Ends With Us drama

While the past 12 months have largely been dominated by back and forth court filings, Salomé predicted that Blake Lively, 38, is headed for a huge career change in 2026.
While the past 12 months have largely been dominated by back and forth court filings, Salomé predicted that Blake Lively, 38, is headed for a huge career change in 2026.

It’s been a messy year for Blake Lively, who has been embroiled in a bitter ongoing legal battle with her former It Ends with Us co-star Justin Baldoni.

While the past 12 months have largely been dominated by back and forth court filings, Salomé predicted that Lively, 38, is headed for a huge career change in 2026.

For the most part, the Gossip Girl alum has largely been in front of the camera, but Salomé reckoned that she will thrive behind it over the course of the next 12 months.

Salomé said he also believes Lively will focus her efforts on having larger behind-the-scenes involvement in her upcoming projects.

He said this move is in part driven by her role as a co-producer on the upcoming romantic comedy film The Survival List, in which she will also star.

‘She will be taking on less acting roles,’ he said. ‘Instead, she will focus her attention on producing as well as curating and shaping creative projects.’

Salomé also believes that fans will see fewer public appearances from Lively this year.

Instead, he predicts that she will favor events ‘synchronized with important legal and career milestones.’

Owusu Bempah Warns of NPP Tensions, Coup Threats and Difficult Times Ahead in 2026

Prophet Owusu Bempah, founder of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry, has shared a series of prophecies he says are expected to occur in 2026, touching on Ghana’s political landscape and national stability.

According to the prophet, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could experience intense internal competition, particularly during its primaries.

Why has Gabon government sacked its national football team?

0

Gabon’s government has announced the suspension of the national team and the ‍sacking of its coach before proceeding to kick Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang off the squad in the wake of three defeats ‌at the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Gabon’s Minister of Sports announced on television the suspension of the national team after it finished last in its group and was eliminated from the tournament in Morocco.

“Given the Panthers’ disgraceful performance at the Africa Cup of Nations, the government has decided to dissolve the coaching staff, suspend the national team until further notice, and exclude players Bruno Ecuele Manga and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,” said acting sports minister Simplice-Desire Mamboula after Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to the Ivory Coast in Marrakech.

Gabon, coached by former defender Thierry Mouyouma, had already been eliminated after losing its opening pair of Group F fixtures ‌to Cameroon and Mozambique, but in its ‌final outing, it was 2-0 up over the defending champion before conceding three goals and ‍going down to a second-string Ivorian lineup.

READ: Premier League: Maresca on the verge of leaving Chelsea – reports

Neither Aubameyang nor veteran defender Ecuele Manga played on Wednesday, ‍with the former having returned to his French club Olympique de Marseille for treatment on a thigh injury.

The former African Footballer of the Year responded on X, saying: “I think the team’s problems are much deeper than the individual I am.”

Aubameyang, at 36, had likely played his last game for Gabon in the side’s defeat by Mozambique, as was also likely the case with the 37-year-old former Cardiff City defender Ecuele Manga.

Disbanding the national team used to be a common reaction in Africa to disappointing results, but since world football’s governing body, FIFA, has taken a hard stance against government interference in the running of football associations, it has been a rare occurrence.

Doomsday ‘scammer’ Ebo Noah arrested

Ebo Noah claimed that the world will end on December 25 Ebo Noah claimed that the world will end on December 25

The Ghana Police Service has reportedly arrested self-acclaimed prophet Evans Eshun, who gained public attention after claiming to have received a divine vision predicting a global flood on December 25, 2025.

According to multiple reports, Prophet Ebo Noah, who is popularly known as Ebo Noah, was picked up by the GPS Special Cyber Vetting Team on December 31, 2025.

A photo of the arrest, which has gone viral, shows Ebo Noah in handcuffs at what looks like a police facility.

The self-proclaimed Ghanaian prophet made headlines, especially on social media, for constructing a modern-day Noah’s ark.

Explaining his motive for building the ark, Ebo Noah claimed that God had warned him that the world would end on December 25, 2025, coinciding with Christmas Day.

In describing his vision, he stated that God would bring about great destruction, with heavy rains and floods devastating the earth.

He further explained that he had been instructed by God to build the ark to rescue souls who wished to be saved, just as described in the biblical story of Noah and the flood.

In many of his clips, Ebo is seen showing off the boats or building materials, claiming that he has built ten arks.

Who is Ebo Noah and why is he building an ark like the biblical Noah?

In a video titled “What Will Happen and How It Will Happen,” posted on YouTube in August, Ebo claimed to have received a divine vision from God, who said it would rain for three years beginning on December 25.

He planned to live on the ark for three years during this predicted mass flooding.

Ebo’s construction of the ark has generated both local and global attention, with his videos garnering millions of views and engagements on social media.

It, however, turned out that the supposed ark, which were actually boats, did not belong to him, and on December 25, 2025, there was no flood.

VAT cut to 20%, COVID Levy gone as as new tax act takes effect January 2026

The new reforms take effect January 1, 2026 The new reforms take effect January 1, 2026

Following the passage of the Value Added Tax Act, 2025 (Act 1151), which takes effect from January 1, 2026, the VAT rate has been cut to 20% from its previous rate of 21.9%.

This comes after the abolition of the COVID-19 Health Recovery Levy, marking an end to the pandemic-era tax measure.

GRA to implement new VAT reforms from January 1, 2026

In a public notice issued on its official website, the GRA said the new law introduces far-reaching changes aimed at simplifying VAT administration, improving efficiency, and promoting voluntary tax compliance.

Among the key reforms is an increase in the VAT registration threshold for businesses dealing in goods, which has been revised upward from GH₵200,000 to GH₵750,000.

Additionally, the Act provides for the recoupling of the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) levies, allowing taxpayers to claim input tax credits on these levies.

Under the new arrangement, both NHIL and GETFund levies will be treated as input tax deductions.

“The VAT rate remains at 15% while the NHIL and GETFund levies stay at 2.5% each, bringing the total effective VAT rate to 20%,” the statement read.

“This approach is designed to ease the tax burden on households and businesses while still supporting essential national programmes,” the statement explained.

The authority further announced the abolition of the VAT Flat Rate Scheme (VFRS), replacing it with a unified and more transparent VAT structure.

The GRA urged VAT-registered taxpayers, employers, accountants, auditors, importers, exporters, clearing agents, and tax consultants to take note of the reforms, stressing that the changes are designed to promote equity, enhance administrative efficiency, and strengthen compliance across the tax system.

Ghana Bowls Federation introduces sport to Police Service ahead of Commonwealth Games push

0

The Ghana Bowls Federation has intensified efforts to expand and institutionalise the sport within Ghana’s security services, formally introducing bowls to the Ghana Police Service as part of a broader strategy to prepare athletes for international competition, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The introduction and inauguration ceremony was held at the Ghana Police Headquarters in Accra and featured a practical demonstration of the sport led by the President of the Ghana Bowls Federation, Charles Amofa, alongside para-athletes.

Members of the Police Service, including athletes and coaches, took part in the exercise, which formed part of a wider sports exhibition involving several national federations.

Speaking in an interview at the event, Mr Amofa said the programme marked the first time bowls was being officially introduced to the Ghana Police Service, describing it as a significant step in the federation’s development agenda.

“We were invited to be part of this sports exhibition day. As you can see, we have other federations also exhibiting their silverware and what they have in terms of skills and all that. So for us as a federation, Ghana Bowls, this is our first time of introducing the sport to the Ghana Police Service,” he said.

He explained that the Police Service becomes the fourth security institution to embrace bowls, following earlier engagements with the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Prisons Service and the Ghana Armed Forces.

“We’ve done that for the Ghana National Fire Service. We’ve done that for the Prison Service and the Ghana Armed Forces. So the Ghana Police Service is our fourth security service that we are trying to introduce the Bowls Federation to,” Mr Amofa stated.

He indicated that the demonstration would be followed by structured training sessions for interested police personnel, with a long-term objective of organising national security games in bowls.

“The ultimate goal is to have a national security games, you know, in preparation towards the 2026 Commonwealth Games, if we are lucky to be given a slot to go to the Commonwealth Games after,” he said.

Mr Amofa disclosed that the federation has also written to other security agencies, including the Ghana Immigration Service and the Customs Division, to extend the programme nationwide.

“We’ve already written to the Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Customs Service and we are yet to get the feedback from them, but we hope we’ll be getting a positive feedback, just like the others have done,” he noted.

He described bowls as a discipline that aligns well with the professional demands of security work, emphasising its focus on mental strength and precision.

“Bowls is a discipline game. It’s a game of precision. It’s a game that prepares your mind towards any target that you really want to achieve,” he said.

According to him, the federation is deliberately focusing on the security services before expanding aggressively into civilian participation, although para-bowls activities are already underway.

“What we are doing for now is to concentrate on only the security services. Once we get it right with the security services, we’ll move on to the civilian clubs as well. But we already have the para club which trains every Mondays and Tuesdays at the Accra Sports Stadium,” Mr Amofa added.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Ghana Bowls Federation President said the sport would remain visible and active as part of its growth strategy.

“We are not resting on our oars. What we’re doing is to make sure we are active, we are visible. Wherever there is any serious sporting event, we’ll be present to showcase what we have as a federation,” he said.

‎NPP flagbearer hopeful Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) remains aggrieved over his self-styled campaign in 2016, which he believes contributed to the New Patriotic Party’s victory.

‎According to him, this resentment has led the NDC to dislike him and resort to insults whenever his name is mentioned.

‎Speaking during a campaign event in the Okaikwei South constituency and shared on X, Dr Bawumia noted that although such attacks persist, he has chosen not to be distracted by them.

‎“The 2016 campaign was a heated one, and that is why the NDC does not like me. Whenever they hear my name, they resort to insults, but I will not be bothered,” he said.

Another major surprise that shook the music industry was the announcement of Kuami Eugene’s departure from Lynx Entertainment.

Having risen to stardom under the label with multiple award-winning hits, Kuami Eugene’s association with Lynx was seen as one of the most successful artiste-label partnerships in Ghana.

His exit, therefore, came as a shock to fans and industry watchers alike.

While some expressed concerns about the future of the partnership model, others viewed the move as a bold step toward independence for the artiste.

Black Sherif’s unexpected global strides

Black Sherif continued to surprise Ghanaians with the scale and speed of his international growth.

Although already successful, the artiste exceeded expectations with strategic collaborations, major international performances, and growing recognition beyond Africa.

Many industry players described his trajectory as unprecedented, sparking renewed conversations about Ghanaian music’s global potential.

His rise served as motivation for emerging artistes aiming to break into the global market.

Veteran artistes staging strong comebacks

Another pleasant surprise was the resurgence of several veteran artistes who returned to the spotlight with hit songs, sold-out shows, and renewed relevance.

Their comebacks challenged the notion that the Ghanaian music industry is only favourable to younger artistes and demonstrated the value of experience, reinvention, and consistency.

Kwaw Kese is one of the artistes who returned to the spotlight with hit songs.

He adapted to the Gen Z music era, maintaining relevance while blending contemporary sounds with his signature style.

The surprises of the year reflected a Ghanaian society that is constantly evolving, one where public figures continue to break stereotypes, redefine success, and take control of their personal narratives.

Tariff reversal could destabilise power, water

0

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has warned that reversing its 2026–2030 Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) could have serious consequences for the stability of Ghana’s energy and water sectors, as well as the broader economy.

The commission reaffirmed this position in a communiqué issued after joint meetings with the Trades Union Congress (TUC) held on December 11 and 30, 2025, during which the new tariff schedule—set to take effect on January 1, 2026—was discussed.

The discussions focused on the potential impact of the tariffs on workers’ living conditions and the need for electricity and water sector stability.

While PURC reaffirmed the importance of maintaining the tariff, the Commission also acknowledged concerns raised by TUC and promised to address them in the next tariff review.

TUC said it will monitor the effect of the tariffs on salaries and wages and engage the government on wage levels in relation to the rising cost of living.

Both parties emphasised the importance of ongoing dialogue to ensure tariff decisions balance economic stability, affordability, and service delivery while protecting the interests of Ghanaian workers.

Let us keep our eyes on the prize; we must win 2028 for Ghana – Bawumia urges NPP members

0

Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party members to prioritise Ghana’s national interest over internal disagreements as the party prepares to elect its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

In a New Year message to NPP members, Dr. Bawumia stressed that the party’s ultimate goal must be victory in 2028, noting that the stakes go beyond individual ambitions or internal competition.

He called on supporters to remain focused despite distractions, rumours, and perceived divisions within the party.

“To every NPP member listening to me, let us keep our eyes fixed on the prize. We must win 2028 for the sake of Ghana,” he said.

The former Vice President cautioned that escalating internal tensions could weaken the party’s chances of regaining power, emphasising that disunity serves only the interests of political opponents. He therefore urged members to avoid actions or rhetoric that could further fracture the party.

Dr. Bawumia also highlighted that the ongoing flagbearership contest should be guided by ideas, vision, and policy direction rather than personal attacks, warning that negative campaigning within the party provides ammunition to opponents ahead of the 2028 polls.

According to him, a disciplined and issue-based contest would not only strengthen internal cohesion but also enhance the NPP’s appeal to the Ghanaian electorate as it positions itself for a return to government.

“We should not be distracted by the storms around us, the rumours, or the perceived divisions. Let us set aside anything that has the potential to divide our party further. This flagbearership contest should be about ideas and vision—not personal attacks. Engaging in anti-party acts only hands ammunition to our opponents,” he added.

Let’s continue to hope and trust God in 2026 – Pastor

Godfred Aaneamenga Polkuu

Sandema (U/E), Jan. 01, GNA – Pastor Andrew Kwame Mensah, the Head Pastor of the Church of Pentecost in Sandema, has called on Christians to continue to have hope and trust in God for His blessings and favour in 2026.

“I want to admonish all Christians that we should continue to have hope and trust in the Lord. For 2026, the Lord is going to do something great in our lives. We should expect the grace and glory of God, and prosperity in all aspects of our lives,” he said.

Pastor Mensah said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sandema, prior to delivering his sermon at the December 31st night church service to usher in the New Year.

Christians, most of whom were dressed in white apparels, thronged various church auditoriums at about 2000 hours GMT in the Sandema township, to thank God for seeing them through 2025.

At the Church of Pentecost, amidst singing, dancing and praises to God, Pastor Mensah said even though 2026 may come with challenges, he was assuring Christians across the country that God would not abandon them.

“In spite of all challenges that may come in 2026, I want to assure Christians and the entire nation that we should expect something wonderful from our God,” he said.

He further called for honesty, faithfulness, diligence and hard work among Ghanaians both in the government and private sectors, and stressed the need for Christians to focus on God’s plan for them.

Touching on deviant behaviours, especially substance abuse among the youth, Pastor Mensah advised the youth against the use of illicit drugs.

He warned that such drugs were dangerous to their health, emotions and physical life, adding that there was no way anyone could survive or succeed in life with substance abuse.

The Pastor also expressed concern about the misuse of social media among the youth, and noted that some youth created bad contents on social media just to attract viewers irrespective of the consequences.

He noted that social media does not forget, and that one day, such bad contents could be used against them in their future endeavours saying, “I advise the youth to use social media wisely.

“Make sure you post good and life-transforming contents that will bring you promotion in life,” the cleric admonished the youth.

Some church members in separate interviews with the GNA, expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life and for blessing them with good health throughout 2025, and prayed for His guidance, protection, grace, prosperity and good health for themselves, their families and friends in 2026.

Relieve Ato Forson of defence minister role – Franklin Cudjoe to Mahama

Franklin Cudjoe is the Chief Executive Officer of the IMANI Centre for Policy and Education Franklin Cudjoe is the Chief Executive Officer of the IMANI Centre for Policy and Education

The Chief Executive Officer of the IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Franklin Cudjoe, has cautioned President John Dramani Mahama that 2026 will be a decisive year for his administration, urging him to restructure ministerial responsibilities to safeguard fiscal discipline and effective projects delivery.

Cudjoe specifically appealed to the president to relieve Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson of his additional duties as Minister of Defence, arguing that the scale of upcoming government projects requires the finance minister’s undivided attention.

In a Facebook post on January 1, 2026, the policy analyst acknowledged what he described as a promising start by President Mahama but stressed that the period of goodwill was over, with tougher governance tests ahead.

New poll shows Ato Forson overtaking Asiedu Nketiah in 2028 NDC succession

“Now, though the honeymoon is truly over. 2026 is a crucial year for the rollout of some of your Big Push projects with significant budgets. Please free Finance Minister Ato Forson from the additional duty as Defence Minister so he can focus and continue being fiscally disciplined,” Cudjoe indicated.

He further proposed the establishment of an Administrator or Assessor-General within the civil service to supervise government projects, conduct risk analysis and ensure value for money, while closing loopholes that often enable corruption.

Cudjoe also called for a stronger and more empowered Cabinet Office to improve coordination, oversight and accountability among ministries, departments, and agencies.

Reflecting on governance challenges under the previous administration, he warned against reactive anti-corruption measures, arguing instead for preventive systems.

Constitutional Review Committee proposes five-year Presidential term

“We do not want to spend time and money setting up another ORAL after your tenure. We are already suffocating from the organised loot and heist under the last guy,” he cautioned.

Despite the warning, he expressed confidence in the calibre of many of President Mahama’s appointees, noting that with the right institutional safeguards, losses through waste and corruption could be significantly reduced.

Cudjoe also singled out the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, for praise, describing him as efficient and urging that similar standards be entrenched across the Presidency.

He assured the president that Civil Society Organisations and citizens would remain vigilant, monitoring the execution of government projects to prevent a repeat of inefficiencies and financial losses experienced in the past.

  • Prophet Fire Oja’s prophecy about Sammy Gyamfi has triggered mixed reactions from Ghanaians online

Controversial Ghanaian prophet Jedidia Henry Kore, popularly known as Fire Oja, shared a 2026 prophecy about the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GoldBod, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, during a church event on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

Preaching before his congregation at a crossover night service at the Zion Prayer International Ministry Church, the prophet claimed to have seen Sammy Gyamfi being moved into a dilapidated building in the spiritual realms.

He claimed that the renowned politician remained silent inside the building, with many passersby noticing his presence without acknowledging him.

He said:

“This is a prophecy for the NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi. I saw a dilapidated building. I have never seen such a hideous building like that. In the spiritual realms, I saw you being moved from a beautiful house to the dilapidated building.”

“Sammy was sitting in the room and did not utter a word. Everyone was passing by the house. He spent a long time in the house without speaking. People saw him in the building without checking up on him.”

Fire Oja claimed that the dilapidated building later transformed into a beautiful house, which attracted the attention of many people, who wanted to inquire about Sammy Gyamfi.

The prophet prophesied that the GoldBod CEO would face numerous public humiliations and much disgrace in 2026. He claimed that the politician’s close friends and colleagues would plot to sabotage and bring his downfall throughout the year.

He said:

“In 2026, you will face a lot of disgrace. They will plot against you. Your friends and colleagues will sabotage you.”

Fire Oja, who has previously received backlash for failed prophecies, claimed that Sammy Gyamfi would eventually overcome the various adversities and be celebrated nationally by Ghanaians.

The controversial prophet claimed that the NDC Communications Officer would earn national recognition as long as he was alive and healthy.

Maresca leaves Chelsea after turbulent end to 2025

0

Enzo Maresca has left his role as Chelsea manager with the club sitting fifth in the Premier League.

The Italian, 45, departs less than six months after winning the Club World Cupat the end of his first season at Stamford Bridge.

“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track,” Chelsea said.

The Blues have won just one of their past seven league matches and took only six points from six games in December to fall 15 points behind leaders Arsenal.

But results are only a small part of the story.

Maresca, who had a contract due to run to 2029, delighted key figures at Stamford Bridge – including sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, and influential co-owner Behdad Eghbali – by steering Chelsea to a top-four finish and winning the Uefa Conference League and Club World Cup last year.

Yet success soon turned to sourness in his relationship with the hierarchy.

Maresca stunned even members of his own staff when – after beating Everton 2-0 for Chelsea’s solitary Premier League win in December – he said “many people” had made it his “worst 48 hours” since joining the club.

Those comments came without any warning to club staff or senior management, who would have preferred any discussions to remain private.

But friction had been brewing in the months before that.

Maresca had hoped to raise his profile following the Blues’ successes through opportunities outside the club. He was planning to publish a book before being blocked, and spoke at Il Festival dello Sport – an event in Italy organised by La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper – without the club’s permission.

He also made public that he disagreed with the club not signing a central defender after Levi Colwill injured his anterior cruciate ligament in pre-season. The club’s hierarchy explained that doing so could prompt academy prospect Josh Acheampong to request a transfer, which ultimately led Maresca to back down.

The former Leicester manager has also switched agents – from the Wasserman agency to Jorge Mendes – and has been talked of as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, which Maresca has dismissed.

In addition, he has increasingly avoided wearing club tracksuits – opting instead for his own clothing.

Following his last game with Chelsea – a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on 30 December – assistant manager Willy Caballero said Maresca felt too unwell to do his post-match media duties, but it is understood his absence was more due to his disillusionment at the club.

And it was noticeable that when Chelseaposted a 52-second video on social media on New Year’s Eve summarising their year, there was no trace of Maresca.

The Italian, for his part, believed the pressure on him was unfair given what he felt were difficult working conditions, and that a line had been crossed in terms of attempts to influence his team selection.

While he was not angry about overseeing a young squad, he felt supporters’ expectations needed to be managed regarding what was achievable – especially given key injuries to Colwill and attacker Cole Palmer.

Chelsea initially intended to assess his position at the end of the season if results improved, but Maresca’s unhappiness was a factor in them parting ways sooner.

The Blues’ next match is against second-placed Manchester City on Sunday – starting a difficult month that also includes games against Arsenal and Napoli.

NPP still hurting after 2024 loss – Justin Kodua

0

The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has admitted that the party is still grappling with the disappointment of its defeat in the December 7, 2024, general elections.

In a New Year message to party supporters, Mr Kodua said the experience of the past year had been difficult, noting that the loss remains painful for many within the party. However, he stressed that the setback does not define the NPP’s future.

According to him, the party’s strength lies in its long-standing values, resilience, and commitment to national development, rather than the outcome of a single election.

“The past year has tested us deeply,” he said, adding that the NPP has faced challenging moments before and has always found a way to bounce back through unity and determination.

Mr Kodua disclosed that the party has already begun addressing weaknesses exposed by the defeat. He said several internal reforms are underway to reposition the NPP for future contests.

These include proposed constitutional amendments, the establishment of a training and research centre known as the Patriotic Institute, and the reactivation of the party’s membership dues payment system.

He explained that the reforms are aimed at strengthening party structures and improving organisation at all levels.

Looking ahead, the General Secretary said the party has lined up major activities for the year, including the presidential primary, the election of party officers nationwide, and a reconciliation and unity campaign.

He assured members that all internal elections will be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

Mr Kodua also warned against internal divisions as the party prepares for a competitive presidential race, urging members to avoid factionalism and focus on rebuilding trust and cohesion.

He praised the Minority in Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, for what he described as a firm and principled opposition role.

He also commended party executives and grassroots supporters for remaining loyal despite the loss of political power.

Mr Kodua called on party faithful not to lose confidence, saying the NPP would rebuild and return stronger through reflection, resilience, and collective effort.

Enzo Maresca led Chelsea to win the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Enzo Maresca led Chelsea to win the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is reportedly considering resigning from his role, following growing tensions at the club due to a poor run of results.

Chelsea have been struggling recently, winning just one of their last seven matches and dropping points in both the Champions League and the Premier League.

According to reports from England, Maresca has a tense relationship with the Chelsea board and is mulling over the idea of stepping down in a bid to resolve the situation.

Chief reporter for British media outlet Sky Sports, Kaveh Solhekol, gave more insight into the rumours:

Anthony Joshua’s coach and close friend among accident fatalities – Reports

“Enzo Maresca is considering his position as Chelsea head coach. Maresca may decide to resign after a breakdown in relations with key figures at the club. He has stood by the comments he made on December 13, 2025, that many people at the club were not supporting him or the team. He described the days leading up to the 2–0 victory over Everton as the worst 48 hours of his time at the club,” he posted on his X page.

The veteran football reporter also hinted that Maresca could tender his resignation before Chelsea face Manchester City in the Premier League due to growing frustrations.

“There is no guarantee Enzo Maresca will be in charge for Chelsea’s game at Man City on Sunday. Missing the post‑match press conference on Tuesday was another sign of problems behind the scenes. Relations have been strained for some time. Maresca feels a red line has been crossed. Developments are expected today,” he added.

Maresca signed a five‑year contract when he joined Chelsea in the summer of 2024, with the club holding an option to extend it by a further year.

Chelsea won the Conference League and the Club World Cup in 2025 under his leadership, and he guided them back into the Champions League.

NPP cautions presidential hopefuls against factional politics, urges unity

0

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned its presidential hopefuls against engaging in factional politics, stressing that unity, rather than internal rivalry, will be key to the party’s recovery following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

In a New Year message to party members on January 1, 2026, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said that although the upcoming presidential contest is expected to be keenly contested, aspirants must avoid actions that could deepen divisions within the party.

He emphasised that the NPP’s strength has always been built on solidarity and collective purpose, not factional dominance.

Mr. Kodua acknowledged that the December 7, 2024 electoral loss remains painful, but insisted the party is far from broken. He noted that the NPP has weathered difficult moments in the past and emerged stronger through unity, discipline, and commitment.

He disclosed that the party has already commenced a structured rebuilding process, including constitutional reforms, the establishment of the Patriotic Institute for training and research, and preparations for key internal elections, including the presidential primary.

Mr. Kodua assured members that the party’s leadership is committed to conducting free, fair, and transparent internal elections, with reconciliation and unity at the heart of the rebuilding agenda.

He also commended the Minority in Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, for standing firm in opposition and praised the party’s legal team for defending the NPP’s interests during what he described as challenging times.

The General Secretary urged grassroots members to remain hopeful and steadfast, cautioning against despair despite the loss of political power. He stressed that rebuilding the party will require humility, sacrifice, and collective effort, rather than factional loyalty.

He reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to Ghana and called on party members and the general public to embrace peace, unity, and renewal as the party charts its path forward.

Enzo Maresca leaves Chelsea after dramatic breakdown in relations | Chelsea

Enzo Maresca has left his job as Chelsea’s head coach. Maresca’s relationship with the club’s board has broken down and the split has led to a parting of the ways.

It had seemed Chelsea would give the Italian time to turn around his side’s form but events have moved quickly during the past 24 hours. There was deep dissatisfaction with the 45-year-old’s decisions during games but the bigger issue was his conduct away from the pitch. The situation has been volatile ever since Maresca made cryptic comments about experiencing his “worst 48 hours” at the club after the win over Everton on 13 December.

“Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have parted company,” read a statement. “During his time at the club, Enzo led the team to success in the Uefa Conference League and the Fifa Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the club.

Chelsea, who are fifth in the Premier League after one win in seven games, visit Manchester City on Sunday. Ghanaian prophets predict attacks, Black Stars excellence

0

Eric Boahen and Nigel Giasie have prophesied about the World Cup Eric Boahen and Nigel Giasie have prophesied about the World Cup

Some Ghanaian prophets have prophesied that the Black Stars will thrive at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, while delivering their prophecies on December 31, 2025.

The Founder of Prophetic Hill Church, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, revealed that the Black Stars will reach the final of the Mundial but did not confirm whether they will win it.

He further warned that some countries are planning to attack the US during the World Cup and urged the public to pray against it to avert any misfortune.

Ghana drawn in Group L for 2026 FIFA World Cup

“I saw a lot of jets in America. If we don’t pray, the World Cup may not come on, or it will be postponed, or there will be a problem with the American one… We will pray and avert it because prayer can do it. The Black Stars, I prophesied about their qualification and they will do extremely well in the final,” he told his congregants.

Also, the leader of Reign House Chapel, Prophet Eric Boahen Uche, also urged the US to strengthen security at the various stadia, warning of planned attacks during the 2026 World Cup.

He noted that three countries are plotting to damage the US’s reputation during the World Cup by launching attacks to cause mayhem at stadiums.

The prophet further predicted that European champions Spain will clinch the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as the winner will shift from South America to Europe.

“Three countries are having a meeting against the World Cup. American security should tighten their stadiums. There is going to be an attack on stadiums in America during the World Cup. This year the winner will go to Europe. I see a country called Spain carrying the World Cup,” Prophet Boahen said.

The Black Stars have been placed in Group L and will battle England, Croatia, and Panama for a place in the knockout phase.

Ghana will play two matches in the US and one in Canada.

According to a police statement, investigations showed that Kwakye played a leading role in the plan by tracking the miner’s movements and coordinating with accomplices to carry out the attack during the journey to Kumasi.

The statement said police officers placed the suspects under surveillance after picking up information about the planned robbery. Kwakye was arrested when he went to collect his share of the proceeds after being informed by his accomplices that the robbery had been successful.

During interrogation, Kwakye admitted organising the robbery, the Ghana Police Service said in a statement posted on its Facebook page on Thursday, January, 1, 2026.

The suspect is in police custody, assisting with investigations. Police said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the other persons involved so they can be taken through the legal process.

The Bank of Ghana (BoG), in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Ghana and the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), has held a joint Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) sensitisation workshop for Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs).

According to a statement released by the Bank of Ghana, the workshop, held on December 22, 2025, forms part of efforts to ensure the effective implementation of Ghana’s newly enacted Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) Act.

The engagement brought together more than 90 participants from the virtual asset ecosystem and focused on strengthening AML/CFT compliance across the sector.

“It featured discussions on Ghana’s AML/CFT legal and regulatory frameworks, including the AML Act, 2020 (Act 1044), the AML/CFT Guidelines (2022), and the VASP Act. Emphasis was placed on the designation of VASPs as Accountable Institutions under the AML/CFT Guidelines (2022) and the attendant compliance obligations,” the statement read.

Participants were also taken through key provisions of the VASP Act, including proposed licensing and registration requirements and transitional arrangements for existing operators.

“Virtual asset services without the requisite licence or registration after the transitional period will attract stringent sanctions in accordance with the law,” participants were warned, according to the statement.

The initiative underscores a coordinated regulatory approach by the BoG, SEC and FIC to promote market stability and protect investors, with the authorities reaffirming that implementation of the VASP Act will remain a major focus of Ghana’s financial regulatory agenda in 2026.

Maresca Faces Imminent Chelsea Exit Amid Relationship Breakdown

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is on the brink of leaving Stamford Bridge after a complete breakdown in his relationship with the club’s hierarchy, according to multiple reports. Emergency talks are expected to be held Thursday to determine the Italian’s future, with a parting of ways considered highly likely.

The 45 year old manager, who was booed by supporters during Tuesday’s disappointing 2-2 Premier League draw with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, is not expected to be in charge for Sunday’s trip to Manchester City. Sources indicate Maresca wants to leave the club, although it remains unclear whether he is willing to walk away without a financial settlement. His contract runs until 2029 with an option for an additional year.

Chelsea have won just one of their last seven Premier League matches, dropping 15 points off leaders Arsenal. The Blues currently sit fifth in the table and have fallen out of title contention after briefly flirting with challenging for the championship earlier this season. The club has suffered defeats against Leeds United and Atalanta while drawing with Newcastle United and twice with Bournemouth in December alone.

Maresca is ending 2025 as Chelsea head coach, but multiple sources suggest he is unlikely to make it to the end of January unless results improve quickly. This marks the second successive season Chelsea have lost their way over the winter months under Maresca, with last season seeing the team win only two league games between mid December and the final week of February.

The relationship between Maresca and Chelsea’s ownership began to fracture publicly after the Italian made controversial comments following a 2-0 victory over Everton on December 13. He described the preceding 48 hours as “the worst 48 hours” since joining the club because “many people didn’t support us.” When pressed to clarify, Maresca simply repeated his statement and added that he loved the fans, leading many to speculate he was criticising club co owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

The situation escalated when Maresca did not attend the post match press conference following Tuesday’s draw with Bournemouth. Assistant manager Willy Caballero initially stated Maresca was unwell and had been suffering from a temperature for two days. However, journalist Ben Jacobs reported Wednesday that Maresca was not actually sick and chose not to attend because he is in the middle of making a decision as he considers his options at the club.

Maresca is reportedly frustrated by aspects of the Chelsea project affecting his independence to make decisions, with strategic elements not always aligning with how he wants to manage the team. The manager has been linked with a desire for more power and a bigger say over signings at Chelsea, but the club is unwilling to alter a structure that has built an extensive recruitment team focused on signing young talent.

Chelsea have not fielded a player over the age of 30 during Maresca’s entire reign, reflecting the club’s commitment to developing and eventually selling young players for profit. Maresca’s frustrations may stem from the club’s approach, particularly after his public request for a center back during the summer transfer window was reportedly ignored. Reports also suggest the hierarchy has repeatedly questioned his tactical decisions.

If Maresca departs, Chelsea will be searching for their fifth permanent manager since being purchased by Boehly and Clearlake Capital in 2022. The current ownership previously sacked Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter during the season, while Frank Lampard served as an interim manager and Mauricio Pochettino was dismissed at the end of his first full campaign.

One potential solution would be to turn to Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior, who has long been viewed as a potential successor to Maresca. Strasbourg operates as Chelsea’s partner club under the same BlueCo parent company, and Rosenior has impressed in Ligue 1. However, any appointment would depend on whether Strasbourg could recruit a quality replacement.

Maresca has also been linked as a potential candidate for Manchester City should Pep Guardiola leave at the end of the season, though the Chelsea boss has played down such speculation. The former Leicester City manager arrived at Chelsea in June 2024 after leading the Foxes to the Championship title. In his first season, he guided Chelsea to both the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup titles while finishing fourth in the Premier League to secure Champions League qualification.

The pace of developments has been extraordinary, with Chelsea facing a crucial January that includes nine fixtures across four competitions. The schedule features five league games, an FA Cup third round tie against Charlton Athletic, the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi final against Arsenal, and Champions League group stage matches against Pafos and Napoli. Chelsea’s hierarchy has shown reluctance to make mid season managerial changes, though the memory of their chaotic first season under current ownership remains prominent.

Why Ghana Must Break the Cycle

Breaking the Cycle of Patronage Politics

In Ghana, the expectation that voting for a political party entitles citizens to personal rewards—jobs, contracts, or favors—has become disturbingly routine. This culture of transactional politics, rooted in patronage, distorts the very essence of democracy. It weakens institutions, fuels corruption, and undermines public trust.

But democracy is not a reward system. In advanced democracies, voters demand policies, not paybacks. They hold leaders accountable through institutions, not loyalty. Ghana must rise to this standard.

Ghana’s democracy is being quietly eroded—not by coups or censorship, but by the everyday expectation that votes must be rewarded with favors. This exposé challenges the normalization of patronage politics and calls for a civic awakening. It offers a roadmap for reform—civil service integrity, issue-based campaigns, and a citizenry that demands accountability over favoritism. If you believe democracy should serve all—not just the loyal few—this is your must-read.

In Ghana’s political landscape, it has become common for citizens to claim that voting for a party entitles them to jobs, contracts, or personal favors. This expectation—rooted in patronage politics—has become normalized, but it is neither sustainable nor democratic. In advanced democracies, voters demand policies, not personal rewards. Ghana must confront this culture of transactional politics if it is to strengthen institutions, reduce corruption, and build a democracy that truly serves the people.

The Problem: Patronage as a Democratic Distortion

  • Transactional voting: Citizens often view elections as opportunities to secure personal benefits rather than collective progress.
  • Elite impunity: Political leaders exploit this expectation, distributing state resources to loyalists instead of investing in public goods.
  • Weak institutions: Civil service recruitment and public contracts are politicized, eroding trust in governance.
  • Economic insecurity: High unemployment and poverty make patronage attractive, but it perpetuates dependency instead of empowerment.

This cycle undermines accountability. Parties are rewarded for favors, not policies, and citizens lose the leverage to demand systemic reforms.

Lessons from Advanced Democracies

In countries with stronger democratic traditions, patronage has been largely dismantled:

  • Merit-based civil service: Jobs are awarded through transparent exams and qualifications, not party loyalty.
  • Policy-driven campaigns: Parties compete on healthcare, education, infrastructure, and taxation—not promises of contracts.
  • Independent institutions: Watchdogs, media, and courts expose corruption and enforce accountability.
  • Civic culture: Citizens expect collective benefits, not personal favors, from their vote.

While clientelism has existed historically in places like the US or Japan, reforms and modernization shifted politics toward programmatic competition.

What Ghana Must Do
1. Civil Service Reform: Enforce merit-based recruitment and insulate public institutions from political interference.

2. Civic Education: Reframe voting as a collective responsibility, not a transactional exchange.

3. Strengthen Watchdogs: Empower anti-corruption agencies, media, and civil society to expose patronage practices.

4. Campaign Finance Transparency: Reduce the influence of money and patronage in elections.

5. Promote Issue-Based Politics: Encourage parties to compete on policies that address unemployment, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Democracy Beyond Rewards
Democracy is not about who gets rewarded after elections—it is about building institutions that serve all citizens equally. Ghana must move beyond the politics of favors and embrace accountability, transparency, and issue-based governance. Only then can democracy fulfill its promise of collective progress and national renewal.

Advocacy Note for Readers:
Every Ghanaian has a role to play. Reject the culture of “I voted, so I must be rewarded.” Demand policies, demand accountability, and demand institutions that work for everyone. That is the true meaning of democracy.

Corporations, Startups, SMEs, Regional Expansion, and M&A Shaping the Future

Introduction: A Defining Moment for Ghana’s Business Economy

Ghana’s business environment in 2026 represents a turning point in the country’s economic evolution. Across corporate boardrooms, startup hubs, SME clusters, and regional trade corridors, Ghanaian enterprises are repositioning themselves for scale, resilience, and long-term competitiveness. This transformation is not driven by a single sector or policy, but by the convergence of five powerful forces: strong domestic corporations, fast-growing startups, profit-focused SMEs, regional expansion into West Africa, and an accelerating wave of mergers and acquisitions.

Together, these forces are reshaping how business is done in Ghana — from capital formation and innovation to employment creation and regional integration. This editorial by Accra Business News brings these five themes into one cohesive narrative, offering a clear picture of Ghana’s modern business economy and its direction.

Ghanaian Corporations Setting the Pace

Large Ghanaian corporations remain the anchors of the national economy. In 2026, companies operating in finance, telecommunications, energy, logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, and consumer goods are making headlines for expansion, restructuring, digital investment, and market leadership.

Banks and financial institutions continue to deepen financial inclusion through digital banking, SME lending, and improved risk management. Telecoms and technology firms are expanding data infrastructure and digital services, enabling e-commerce, mobile payments, and enterprise solutions. Energy companies are investing in efficiency and renewable alternatives, aligning commercial goals with sustainability priorities.

These corporations are not only profit-driven entities; they are system builders. Their scale allows them to influence supply chains, employment, regulation, and investor confidence. In many ways, they form the backbone upon which startups and SMEs build.

Startups Driving Innovation and Market Disruption

Alongside established corporations, Ghana’s startup ecosystem has matured into a significant economic force. In 2026, startups in fintech, agritech, logistics, clean energy, health-tech, and software services are gaining traction, funding, and visibility.

These startups are solving real problems — access to finance, inefficient logistics, post-harvest losses, healthcare affordability, and data-driven business management. What distinguishes Ghana’s startup wave is its strong focus on practical solutions rather than abstract innovation. Products are designed for mass adoption, affordability, and scalability across African markets.

Startups are also influencing how traditional businesses operate. Banks partner with fintechs, agribusinesses integrate digital platforms, and logistics startups support e-commerce growth. This interaction between startups and corporates is accelerating innovation across the entire economy.

SMEs Scaling Profitably and Sustainably

Small and Medium Enterprises remain the most important contributors to employment and grassroots economic activity in Ghana. In 2026, the most successful SMEs are not necessarily the biggest — they are the most disciplined, adaptive, and strategically focused.

Profitably scaling SMEs share common traits:

  • Strong financial management and cost control
  • Digital adoption across sales, payments, and operations
  • Customer-centric product and service design
  • Strategic partnerships and supplier relationships
  • Gradual, data-driven expansion rather than uncontrolled growth

From agribusiness processors and manufacturers to retail brands and professional service firms, SMEs are learning to grow without sacrificing margins. Their success demonstrates that scale in Ghana does not require excessive leverage, but clarity of purpose and operational efficiency.

These SMEs also form critical supply and distribution links for both large corporations and startups, making them essential to the overall business ecosystem.

Ghanaian Businesses Expanding Across West Africa

One of the most significant trends shaping Ghana’s business future is regional expansion. Ghanaian companies are increasingly entering markets across West Africa, leveraging shared trade frameworks, cultural familiarity, and rising regional demand.

Expansion into ECOWAS markets allows Ghanaian firms to:

  • Diversify revenue sources
  • Reduce reliance on a single domestic market
  • Achieve scale more rapidly
  • Compete effectively with multinational firms

Sectors leading regional expansion include renewable energy, healthcare, logistics, professional services, manufacturing, and digital services. These businesses are not only exporting products but exporting operating models, managerial expertise, and Ghanaian business culture.

Regional expansion strengthens Ghana’s position as a commercial gateway and reinforces its role in continental trade under frameworks such as AfCFTA.

Mergers and Acquisitions Reshaping Corporate Ghana

Mergers and acquisitions have become a strategic tool for growth, consolidation, and survival in Ghana’s competitive environment. In 2026, M&A activity reflects deeper structural changes in the economy.

Companies pursue M&A to:

  • Achieve economies of scale
  • Strengthen balance sheets
  • Acquire technology and talent
  • Enter new markets quickly
  • Comply with regulatory and capital requirements

Financial services, telecoms, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, and technology are among the most active sectors. While some deals involve foreign investors, many are driven by local and regional players seeking long-term strategic advantage.

M&A activity signals maturity in Ghana’s corporate sector. It reflects a shift from fragmented competition to structured growth and consolidation — essential for building globally competitive enterprises.

How These Five Forces Interconnect

These five themes — corporations, startups, SMEs, regional expansion, and M&A — do not operate in isolation. They reinforce one another:

  • Startups supply innovation to corporates and SMEs
  • Corporations provide markets, capital, and infrastructure
  • SMEs anchor supply chains and employment
  • Regional expansion creates scale opportunities
  • M&A aligns resources and accelerates growth

Together, they form a dynamic business ecosystem capable of withstanding shocks and capturing new opportunities.

Implications for Ghana’s Economy

The combined impact of these trends is profound:

  • Job creation across formal and informal sectors
  • Increased productivity through technology adoption
  • Higher investment confidence from local and foreign investors
  • Improved regional competitiveness
  • Greater economic resilience through diversification

Ghana’s economy in 2026 is less dependent on a single sector and more driven by private-sector innovation and enterprise.

.

Challenges That Remain

Despite progress, challenges persist:

  • Access to affordable long-term financing
  • Infrastructure gaps
  • Regulatory complexity
  • Currency volatility
  • Skills development needs

However, the growing sophistication of Ghanaian businesses suggests an increasing ability to adapt and innovate around these constraints.

.

Ghana’s Business Future Is Being Built Now

Ghana’s business transformation in 2026 is not theoretical — it is happening in real time. Corporations are scaling, startups are innovating, SMEs are growing profitably, businesses are expanding regionally, and mergers and acquisitions are reshaping markets.

For Modern Ghana readers, this moment represents more than headlines. It reflects a country building an economy driven by enterprise, strategy, and regional relevance. The foundations being laid today will determine Ghana’s competitiveness for decades to come.
