Courage Nobi exits Alan Kyerematen’s United Party

0

Director of Communications for the Movement for Change, now rebranded as the United Party, Courage Nobi, has officially resigned from the political movement.

In a statement released on Monday, November 3, Mr. Nobi explained that his decision followed “a period of reflection and a new direction for my life’s purpose and for Ghana—rooted in my unwavering commitment to faith, integrity, and patriotism.”

“I have, since the conclusion of the 2024 general elections, respectfully stepped away from the politics of the Movement for Change, now the United Party,” he stated.

He revealed that he had already communicated his decision to the party’s founder, Alan Kyerematen, affirming that he no longer holds any affiliation with the party.

“I have since personally communicated my decision to Alan Kyerematen and wish to state clearly and without ambiguity that I am not a member of the United Party,” the statement read.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve under the former Trade and Industry Minister, Mr. Nobi praised Mr. Kyerematen as a visionary leader committed to Ghana’s progress.

“I remain eternally grateful for the opportunity to have served under the brilliant leadership of Alan Kyerematen—championing his vision and cause. I hold a firm belief in his stature and continue to admire his deep love and commitment to our dear country, Ghana,” he said.

Reflecting on his political journey, he recounted his tenure as Director of Communications for the Youth Caucus during Mr. Kyerematen’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer campaign, before transitioning into senior roles within the Movement for Change.

“I had the honour of serving him as his Director of Communications for the Youth Caucus during his flagbearer campaign in the New Patriotic Party. Guided by my principles and conviction in his vision, I later served as Deputy Director of Communications and Deputy Director for Policy in his Movement for Change,” he recalled.

“This was due to my commitment to him as a leader and mentor and still as a statesman whom I deeply respect.”

Mr. Nobi also extended goodwill to the United Party as it continues its political journey.

“That said, I extend my best wishes to the leadership and members of the United Party in this new endeavour,” he added.

Reaffirming his focus on national progress, he stated that he will now concentrate on promoting ethical leadership and contributing to Ghana’s democratic discourse.

“With my unwavering patriotism and belief that Ghana can work, I remain avidly involved in the building of our nation through offering governance solutions, promoting and upholding ethical leadership, and presenting dissenting views to enhance good governance. I avail myself to every opportunity to enhance public discourse on critical national issues,” he said.

NPP Primaries: Two former Kennedy Agyapong supporters endorse Dr. Bawumia in Western Region

0

Two former supporters of NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong have declared their support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to become the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.

The two — NPP Constituency Chairman for Jomoro, Mathew Nda, and former MCE for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira, Eric Essien — announced their unflinching support for Dr. Bawumia during his campaign tour of Jomoro in the Western Region on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Both party figures paid tribute to Dr. Bawumia, praising his humility, character, and national appeal, which they said make him the right choice to lead the NPP back to power.

“His humility is remarkable. Even though he has risen to the position of Vice President, he remains so humble and accords everyone respect,” said Mathew Nda, the Jomoro Constituency Chairman.

“These are the qualities we want in someone to occupy the seat of President. So, on behalf of our delegates, as Chairman of the constituency, I declare that we are going for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he added, drawing loud cheers from delegates.

For his part, former MCE Eric Essien described Dr. Bawumia as the most marketable candidate to win power for the NPP, urging delegates to be guided by history and retain him — just as the party did with John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo before they became Presidents.

“As a former MCE, I know politics is about numbers. When someone already has the numbers, you keep the person and add up,” he said.

“Our first President, Kufuor, got 39% on his first attempt, and we didn’t replace him — we supported him, and he won power. Akufo-Addo also didn’t win the first time, but we stood by him three times until the God of Israel opened the door for him.”

“Former Vice President Bawumia got 41%, and he’s very close to the mark. Some things happened, and our own supporters didn’t vote, which affected us after eight years in power. Let’s not change our candidate — it would be a big mistake. Let’s vote for him massively and rally behind him to win the 2028 election.”

Dr. Bawumia has been campaigning in the Western Region since the weekend, and the endorsement from two respected former Kennedy Agyapong supporters is seen by political observers as a significant boost to his momentum in the region.

Growth Investment Partners, mPharma Expand Access To Affordable Healthcare

0

Growth Investment Partners (GIP) Ghana Ltd, an investment platform established by British International Investment (BII), has announced a strategic investment in mPharma Ghana Ltd, a patient-centred and technology-driven healthcare company improving access to affordable medicines across Africa.

GIP’s investment will enable mPharma to optimise inventory in its existing mutti pharmacy network across Ghana and Francophone West Africa (FWA), while also expanding its franchise model – QualityRx – to new markets in the West African region and supporting local pharmacy owners to expand access to affordable, community-based healthcare in Togo and Benin.

The expansion reflects mPharma’s focus on strengthening its footprint in Francophone West Africa, where stable operating environments and strong regional demand for quality pharmaceutical services present significant opportunities for growth.

Chief Executive and Investment Officer of GIP Ghana, Jacob Kholi, said, “Our focus remains on supporting high-impact businesses that improve essential services for everyday people. Strengthening mPharma’s footprint in Francophone West Africa will help more communities access affordable medicines while reinforcing the resilience of regional healthcare systems.”

Founded in 2013, mPharma has grown into one of Africa’s most innovative healthcare providers, addressing the persistent challenge of limited access to affordable medicines. Through its mutti pharmacy network and complementary services such as mutti Doctor, a virtual consultation and community screening service, mPharma provides timely access to licensed doctors, reduces patient wait times from hours to minutes, and promotes early detection and management of chronic conditions.

The company’s franchise model offers pharmacy owners a multi-year partnership that has enabled mPharma to build a broad pharmacy network that brings affordable care closer to communities, converting independent community pharmacies into trusted primary healthcare access points under the mutti brand.

Chief Executive Officer of mPharma, Kwesi Arhin, commented, “Access to affordable medicines remains one of the most critical healthcare challenges across the region. With GIP’s support, we can continue to strengthen our partnerships with pharmacies and healthcare providers to enhance patient care and ensure equitable access to quality medicines across Ghana, Francophone West Africa, and the wider Sub-Saharan region.”

BII Country Director, Ghana, Kwabena Asante-Poku, added, “We are proud to deepen our support for mPharma through GIP’s investment. BII has been an investor in mPharma for several years, and we have seen firsthand the company’s impact in improving access to affordable medicines and healthcare across Africa. This new partnership will help accelerate mPharma’s expansion in Francophone West Africa, strengthening health systems and delivering essential services to more communities.”

mPharma’s impact is already visible. Its mutti membership programme has grown from fewer than 10,000 members in 2019 to more than 400,000 at the end of 2024 across Africa. Over 70% of patients report lower drug prices at mutti pharmacies, while more than 75% of members report no stock outs of essential medicines.

The company’s healthcare initiatives also include targeted programmes for chronic disease management, women’s health, and children’s healthcare. Its Diabetes Test & Treat programme has achieved optimal blood sugar control in 80% of patients within six months, while partnerships with leading pharmaceutical firms such as Pfizer have provided up to 65% discounts on life-saving medications.

Through this partnership, mPharma will continue to drive innovation, improve medicine affordability, and strengthen health systems across West Africa.

Health Ministry begins fair distribution of doctors across Ghana

0

The Ministry of Health has begun a nationwide exercise to ensure doctors are fairly distributed across all regions and districts.

It explained that the initiative forms part of efforts to make quality healthcare accessible to every part of the country.

The ministry urged doctors currently going through the recruitment process to accept postings to hospitals and health facilities where their services are most needed.

It noted that the placement process is being done strictly through its official online portal, adding that no individual or group has been authorized to collect money or influence postings in any way.

The ministry cautioned newly recruited doctors not to deal with middlemen or pay anyone who promises to fast-track or change their postings.

It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fairness in the deployment of health professionals, stressing that the equitable distribution of doctors is key to achieving universal health coverage.

The ministry encouraged all qualified doctors to visit its official website and complete their registration before the deadline stated on the portal.

‘NPP can only elect a flagbearer; they can’t win 2028′ – Jirapa MP

Cletus Seidu Dapilah is the MP for Jirapa Cletus Seidu Dapilah is the MP for Jirapa

The Member of Parliament for Jirapa, Cletus Seidu Dapilah, has asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has no realistic chance of returning to power in the 2028 general elections.

According to him, the party may succeed in electing a flagbearer, but that will be the end of their progress.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, and monitored by GhanaWeb, he argued that the NPP’s electoral fortunes have diminished significantly due to what he described as the strong performance of President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC administration.

You can’t rebuild NPP from the top – Cletus Dapilah warns

“NPP can only elect a flagbearer; they are going nowhere in 2028. They can’t win the good works of President Mahama, and the NDC will make them lose,” he stated.

Dapilah insisted that the NDC’s development agenda and policy initiatives are winning the confidence of Ghanaians, particularly in areas of infrastructure, social welfare, and economic management.

He claimed that these achievements are already shaping public opinions ahead of the next election.

Dapilah also criticised the NPP for what he described as a legacy of economic mismanagement and unfulfilled promises, adding that voters will not easily forget the hardships experienced under their governance.

Consider timing for primaries to boost MP performance – Dapilah to NDC, NPP

The Jirapa MP further stated that the NDC will remain focused on delivering its mandate and strengthening governance institutions, rather than engaging in political propaganda.

He urged party supporters to remain committed and united as the party prepares for 2028.

Dr Nii Okle, who has served as Secretary to the NDC China Chapter from 2018 to date, assumes this new role with a wealth of knowledge in finance, investments, and international relations.

He holds a PhD in Finance, a Master of Science in Finance and Investment, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Statistics.

He is currently the Head of the Mathematics Department at BIBS in Beijing and is an alumnus of Mfantsipim School, 2005 year group.

In his new capacity, Dr Okle’s core mandate will be to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from China into Ghana’s productive sectors in support of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.

He is expected to actively promote investment opportunities, special economic zones such as the Ghana Free Zones, and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to Chinese companies and financial institutions.

With bilateral trade between Ghana and China reaching a record high of $11.8 billion in 2024, Dr Okle will play a pivotal role in organising and participating in investment forums, business seminars, trade fairs, and roadshows across major Chinese cities to position Ghana as a premier destination for investment.

Dzifa Gomashie refutes misuse of GH¢90,000 NLA funds

Abla Dzifa Gomashie is the MP for Ketu South and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Abla Dzifa Gomashie is the MP for Ketu South and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts

The Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has dismissed claims that she misused a GH¢90,000 support package she received from the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

According to a report by myjoyonline.com on November 3, 2025, she explained that the money was secured under the NLA’s Corporate Social Responsibility Fund to rehabilitate the Anoenu Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in her constituency.

She said the funds were used solely for the intended purpose and not for personal gain.

Dzifa Gomashie launches the ‘Ananse Heritage Project’

“That was exactly what I used the money for; not a dime was spent by me. So, it is ridiculous for anyone to say that I will take state money and spend it for myself,” Dzifa Gomashie told journalists at the premises of the facility.

She explained that the GH¢90,000 support was invested in remodeling the health post into a more functional facility that could meet the reproductive health needs of residents.

“It was a one-room facility which I inherited from my predecessor, with a shed in front of it. As we speak, I was able to use that money and more to put up extra rooms, give them equipment, and build the water closet that I indicated,” she said.

She added that the project also included the provision of sanitary pads, medical equipment, and a borehole to ensure the clinic’s access to potable water.

“Additionally, we wanted to buy a polytank for the community to store water for the clinic, but the municipal assembly engineer advised me that it would be better if we had a borehole and mechanised it. So, there is potable water in the area,” she noted.

Dzifa Gomashie reaffirmed that the entire amount provided by the NLA was spent on upgrading the health facility to improve healthcare delivery in the community.

G. Cooper Farms, FasterCapital partner to scale innovative livestock feed production model

0

G. Cooper Farms has officially collaborated with FasterCapital G. Cooper Farms has officially collaborated with FasterCapital

G. Cooper Farms, a pioneering agribusiness startup in Ghana, has officially collaborated with FasterCapital through its LaunchUp program to accelerate the scaling of its innovative livestock feed production model.

This strategic collaboration aims to meet the rapidly growing global demand for meat and dairy products projected by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to reach $2.6 billion by 2050.

By leveraging FasterCapital’s global resources and network, G. Cooper Farms plans to enhance sustainable farming practices and drive shareholder value in Ghana’s agribusiness sector.

Addressing a Growing Market Challenge

The global population surge continues to drive unprecedented demand for high-quality meat and dairy products, creating a critical need for nutrient-rich, sustainable livestock feed. Farmers across Africa face shortages of feed that is low in fiber but rich in protein, potassium, and calcium—elements essential for livestock health and productivity.

While the FAO projects this market to balloon to $2.6 billion by 2050, many producers still rely on traditional, inefficient farming methods that fail to meet quality and sustainability standards. G. Cooper Farms enters this white space with a solution tailored for modern agribusiness challenges, positioning itself to capture significant market share amid rising competition.

Innovative Solutions Driving Sustainable Growth

G. Cooper Farms delivers a scalable, environmentally responsible model for producing livestock feed using advanced commercial farming equipment and globally certified best practices.

Founded by George Cooper, the company’s proprietary approach focuses on enhancing nutrient density and sustainability, ensuring farmers access to premium feed inputs that improve livestock yields and profitability. Currently operational in Ghana, G. Cooper Farms has demonstrated strong early traction, validating its model with local farmers and stakeholders.

This differentiated positioning in a largely underserved market provides a competitive moat and establishes the company as a future leader in African agribusiness innovation.

Strategic Partnership with FasterCapital

By joining FasterCapital’s LaunchUp program, G. Cooper Farms gains access to a comprehensive suite of acceleration resources, including funding support, global mentorship, and go-to-market expertise.

FasterCapital, known for its rigorous selection process, partners exclusively with startups demonstrating high growth potential and scalable impact. The collaboration will fast track G. Cooper Farms’ expansion plans, enhance operational efficiencies, and prepare the startup for subsequent investment rounds.

As Hesham Zreik, CEO of FasterCapital, emphasizes, the program is designed to nurture startups that marry profitability with environmental and social impact — a criterion that G. Cooper Farms exemplifies.

Executive Perspectives

George Cooper, Founder & CEO of G. Cooper Farms:

“Joining FasterCapital’s LaunchUp program marks a pivotal moment in our journey. With their expertise and global network, we are poised to scale our operations effectively, meet the escalating market demand, and pioneer sustainable agribusiness practices in Ghana and beyond.

This partnership accelerates our vision of transforming livestock feed production into a high-impact, scalable industry.”

Hesham Zreik, CEO of FasterCapital:

“We are excited to welcome G. Cooper Farms to LaunchUp. Africa’s agricultural sector is crucial for global food security, and startups like G. Cooper Farms lead the charge with innovation and sustainability.

Their focus on scalable, responsible farming aligns perfectly with FasterCapital’s investment philosophy, and we look forward to supporting their growth trajectory and market leadership.”

Growth Trajectory & Future Plans

In the coming 12 months, G. Cooper Farms will prioritize upgrading its commercial farm infrastructure, expanding feed production capacity, and integrating advanced sustainable farming techniques. The company aims to broaden its market reach within West Africa while pursuing a $400,000 funding round to support these initiatives.

Long-term, G. Cooper Farms envisions becoming a key player in global agribusiness, addressing food security challenges and delivering consistent shareholder returns through sustainable innovation.

Agony for families as landslide death toll climbs in Uganda and Kenya

0

Felix Kemboi is reeling from the shock of losing six relatives Felix Kemboi is reeling from the shock of losing six relatives

More than 40 people are now known to have died after multiple landslides struck Kenya and Uganda’s mountainous border region last week.

“I lost a grandmother, a maternal aunt, an uncle, two sisters, a family friend, and a cousin. They were staying together in Kaptul village,” Felix Kemboi told the BBC on the Kenyan side.

So distressed was the 30-year-old Felix that he struggled to put the experience into words.

On both sides of the border, many people are still missing, and search and rescue teams have been sent out to find them, amid warnings that more landslides could occur.

“As heavy rainfall continues to be experienced across several parts of the country, the risk of landslides, especially along the Kerio Valley region, is heightened,” warns Kenyan Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen.

He is urging residents of affected areas to be cautious of any earth movements and says local authorities are moving those at risk to higher ground.

Fourteen schoolchildren were among the dozens of Kenyans killed when two mudslides struck the Great Rift Valley area, according to the country’s education ministry.

Survivors in eastern Uganda have shared terrifying accounts with the BBC.

“We were sleeping at night, and we heard a huge sound. The neighbours came running: ‘You wake up! The mountain is coming.’ My niece and brother died,” recalls Helda Narunga Masai.

Her home in Kween village was destroyed in the mudslide, and she is now staying with a neighbour.

About 14km (eight miles) up the road, in Kapchorwa, three children and a woman from the same household were killed.

Uganda Red Cross workers say at least 18 people have died in the country’s east, and their staff, local community volunteers, are searching for the 20 people still unaccounted for across Kapchorwa, Bukwo, and Kween districts.

Mande David Kapcheronge, a local leader, has told the BBC that the rescue teams are using rudimentary tools to dig up heaps of mud in the recovery.

Experts have warned against building homes in some of the affected areas in Uganda and Kenya, where landslides are a known problem.

In 2010, a landslide in the Ugandan town of Bududa killed about 300 people, making it one of the country’s most devastating natural disasters.

In response to this latest disaster, the Ugandan government is paying bereaved families 5 million shillings ($1,300; £1,000) and 1 million shillings to each survivor.

The Kenyan government has yet to announce compensation for survivors or the bereaved.

In Uganda, search missions have been hampered by the mudslides cutting off access to some roads.

Amansie West residents commended for active participation in clean-up exercises

By Samuel Ofori Boateng

Manso-Antoakrom (Ash), Nov. 04, GNA –   Mr. Prince Manu Morris, the Amansie West District Chief Executive (DCE), has commended the people in the area for their massive turn-out and active participation in the monthly clean-up exercises in the district.

He lauded the collective spirit displayed by the people and emphasized that keeping the environment clean was a shared duty, which should not be left in the hands of government agencies alone.

Mr. Morris was speaking after a massive clean-up exercise at Antoakrom, organised by the District Assembly.

Officers from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and hundreds of enthusiastic residents, joined the exercise to clean-up the communities.

The exercise formed part of nationwide efforts to promote environmental cleanliness, prevent disease outbreaks, and encourage civic participation in community sanitation activities.

The initiative saw a strong show of unity among local authorities, security agencies, and residents, all of whom worked hand-in-hand to improve hygiene and environmental safety within the district capital and its surrounding communities.

Participants undertook sweeping of major streets, desilting of gutters, weeding of public spaces, and clearing of refuse dumps across Manso Antoakrom and nearby communities.

Mr. Morris stressed the need for people to be very interested in environmental issues in their communities.

He said: “Cleanliness is a shared responsibility.

“We must all understand that a clean environment ensures good health and promotes development.

“Illness does not know anybody — when there is a disease outbreak, it affects everyone.

“That is why the Assembly, together with our chiefs, security services, and residents, have joined hands to keep our surroundings clean and safe for all.”

He expressed appreciation to the security agencies for their active involvement, noting that their participation reflected a strong sense of community service and social responsibility.

According to him, the police, immigration officers, and NADMO officials have shown that maintaining law and order goes together with promoting public health and safety.

The DCE further assured residents that the Assembly would continue to strengthen its sanitation programs by enforcing environmental by-laws, providing waste management support, and organizing regular community education campaigns to sustain a culture of cleanliness.

“We are determined to make Amansie West one of the cleanest districts in the Ashanti region.

The Assembly will continue to work with all stakeholders to improve sanitation, protect the environment, and promote good health among our people,” he added.

Traditional leaders, including the Chief of Manso Antoakrom, Nana Okyere Darko Ampem II, praised the government for instituting the National Sanitation Day initiative, describing it as an effective policy that encouraged community participation in environmental management.

Nana Okyere Darko Ampem II urged all residents, especially the youth, to take the exercise seriously and to cultivate the habit of cleanliness in their daily lives.

He said: “We thank the government for this noble initiative.

“Sanitation is everyone’s duty.

“When our surroundings are clean, our health improves, our image as a people is enhanced, and development follows.

“I encourage everyone to actively take part in future sanitation exercises.”

Exercise patience, footbridges will be constructed – Amasaman MP tells residents

0

The Member of Parliament for Amasaman, Sedem Afenyo, has appealed to residents of the constituency to exercise patience as plans are underway to construct footbridges in key areas.

His appeal follows a protest by residents of Sarpeiman, Pobiman, and nearby communities in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, who demonstrated over the absence of a footbridge along the main Amasaman road.

The residents say the lack of pedestrian crossings has led to several accidents, with some resulting in injuries to schoolchildren and other pedestrians.

During the protest, which took place on Tuesday, November 4, demonstrators carried placards and called on government to priorities their safety by providing a footbridge. They accused authorities of neglecting their repeated appeals for action.

Responding to his constituents on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, Mr. Afenyo acknowledged the concerns of the residents and commended them for advocating for public safety.

He, however, assured them that discussions are already underway with the relevant authorities to address the problem

“Letters have been written to the Roads Ministry for these footbridges to be included because the president said it right in front of me. He told the consultant that with what I have said, he should look at putting footbridges within a certain stretch so that kids can cross the road to the other side to go to school,” he stated.

The MP further urged the residents to remain calm as the process takes shape.

“Amasaman constituents, let’s have a bit of patience. We are in this together. I understand their frustration. I know what it takes to lose a loved one. We are in this together and we are fighting to make sure that the footbridges every community need, they have it to make movement around those communities comfortable,” he stated.

KNUST hosts ACCESS International Ideas Summer School on decent work   | Ghana News Agency

Kumasi, Nov. 04, GNA – The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has opened the 2025 International Ideas Summer School and Trainer of Trainers Workshop with participants drawn from Ghana, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Tunisia, Rwanda, Kenya and Germany.

It is under the theme: “Decent Work and Economic Growth: Exploring Solutions to Youth Unemployment, Skill Gaps, and SME Formalisation in the Global South.”

Organised by the African Centre for Career Enhancement and Skills Support (ACCESS-Ghana), the event brings together over 80 in-person participants and more than 500 virtual attendees from across Africa and Europe.

Prof. David Asamoah, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, in his opening address, welcomed participants to the campus and commended ACCESS-Ghana for spearheading initiatives that connected academia with industry to promote employability and entrepreneurship.

He stated: “At KNUST, we believe that university education must go beyond the awarding of degrees.

“It must equip learners with the competencies, mindset, and adaptability required for the world of work and indeed, for the creation of work.”

Prof Asamoah emphasised that the theme of the summer school was both timely and relevant, reflecting global concerns over high youth unemployment, widening skill gaps, and the dominance of informal enterprises across the Global South.

Prof Asamoah said: “Africa today is home to the world’s youngest population. Every year, millions of young men and women graduate full of hope, creativity, and ambition.

“Yet, too often, they encounter a labour market that is either saturated, informal, or unprepared to absorb their talents.”

The Pro Vice-Chancellor lauded the ACCESS project, coordinated by Leipzig University in Germany and funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under the Exceed Initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The project, which operates in seven African universities, seeks to enhance employability through research, digital skills development, entrepreneurship training, and career support.

He described the summer school as a “living laboratory of ideas” that would inspire collaborative solutions to one of Africa’s defining challenges – bridging the gap between skills and employment.

He said: “The challenge of youth unemployment and skill gaps cannot be solved by governments or universities alone.

It requires a collective effort, a new social compact that brings together education, industry, and communities.”

The event features keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions focusing on employable skill sets, productivity, SME formalisation, and decent work conditions, all linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8.

Experts from academia, industry, government and international organisations are expected to share insights on sustainable job creation and inclusive growth.

According to Dr. Ralph Nyadu-Addo, the Coordinator of ACCESS-Ghana, the initiative provided a platform for young scholars, researchers, and professionals to develop innovative solutions for employability and entrepreneurship.

The programme will climax with the IN4IN International Conference on November 11, 2025, bringing together additional participants and partners to further discussions on innovation and inclusion in Africa’s labour market transformation.

Mr. Robert Meyer, a Representative of Leipzig University, said the aim of ACCESS was to improve the employability of graduates from African universities.

“With this team of young people, we want to work on ideas they shared when they applied for the programme and to encourage them to put these ideas together in the form of proposals to implement as projects,” he explained.

German President honours four for promoting Ghana-Germany relations

By Edward Acquah

Accra, Nov. 4, GNA – President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany has presented the Federal Cross of Merit to four individuals, including two Ghanaians, for promoting Ghana-Germany cooperation.

The ceremony, held at the German Ambassador’s residence in Accra, recognised Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, Dr Ralph Nyadu-Addo, Mr Gerald Asamoah, and Mr Martin Wilde for their contributions in health, education, sports, and development.

Professor Frimpong-Boateng, a former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, was honoured for advancing medical exchange between the two countries.

Having trained at Hannover Medical School, he later established the National Cardiothoracic Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

President Steinmeier said Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s collaboration with German institutions had supported cardiovascular research and professional exchange.

Dr Ralph Nyadu-Addo, a Senior Lecturer at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was recognised for fostering academic cooperation.

President Steinmeier noted his role in establishing the German Centre at KNUST, which has promoted language studies and educational exchange for Ghanaian students seeking higher education in Germany.

Mr Gerald Asamoah, a former German international footballer of Ghanaian origin, received the award for humanitarian work supporting children with heart disease.

Through his foundation, German medical teams have conducted surgeries at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

President Steinmeier said the foundation’s efforts had strengthened bilateral cooperation in medical service delivery.

Mr Martin Wilde, former Resident Representative of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Ghana from 1998 to 2002, was honoured for his work in vocational training and youth development through the Don Bosco Technical Institute.

President Steinmeier said Mr Wilde’s initiatives had expanded access to technical education for Ghanaian youth.

In a post-award interview, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said, “I am very grateful for this recognition from Germany. It is, however, sad that sometimes it takes another country to value what we do for Ghana.”

“I will continue to work for the good of our country through collaboration with our German friends,” he said.

The Federal Cross of Merit, also known as the Verdienstkreuz am Bande, is one of Germany’s highest honours.

Confidence restored, Ghana’s growth accelerating

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability as the central pillars of Ghana’s economic agenda, assuring investors of a stable and credible environment for sustainable growth.

Speaking to members of the diplomatic community and a visiting German delegation led by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who is on a three-day state visit to Ghana on Tuesday, November 3, 2025, President Mahama highlighted the progress his government has made in stabilising the economy and promoting investor confidence.

He noted that the economic reforms undertaken under his leadership have created a more favourable investment climate, opening new opportunities for both local and international investors.

“At the domestic level, I am proud to report that Ghana has made significant progress in economic stabilisation and structural reforms,” President Mahama stated.

“Through sustained fiscal discipline, bold energy sector reforms, industrial modernisation, and agricultural transformation, we have restored confidence in our economy and laid a solid foundation for inclusive and sustainable growth.”

The President announced that the Ghanaian cedi has become one of the best-performing currencies globally, reflecting growing investor confidence and effective monetary management. He added that inflation has fallen sharply from 23% in December 2024 to approximately 9% as of September 2025.

“Over the same period, GDP growth has increased from 5.1% in the first half of 2025 to 7.3% in the second quarter. These indicators send a clear message to our international partners and investors that Ghana is ready and open for business again,” he said.

President Mahama reaffirmed that his administration remains focused on building a resilient, diversified, and transparent economy capable of attracting long-term investment and creating jobs for Ghanaians.

Telecel Foundation Shows Care and Compassion to Female Inmates of Akuse Prisons

0

As part of this year’s Telecel CARE Month celebrations, Telecel Ghana Foundation has dedicated a day to support female inmates at the Akuse Local Prison (women wing) in the Eastern Region.

Through generous contributions from Telecel Ghana employees, the Foundation donated essential supplies including sanitary pads, soaps, toiletries, and disinfectants to support the personal care of the inmates.

The initiative, aimed at promoting wellbeing and inclusion, featured a free breast cancer screening exercise for all female inmates and some officers, conducted in partnership with medical professionals from the Ridge Medical Centre. The medical team also provided basic breast care education and wellness advice to raise awareness and encourage early detection of the illness.

Telecel Ghana’s General Manager of Commercial Operations, Mercy Dawn Akude together with members of the telco’s frontline team and the Foundation, made the donation to the inmates. She said, “As part of our CARE Month celebrations, we are reaching out to the female inmates, who are often overlooked to donate these essential items and provide free breast cancer screening as their health matters.”

Receiving the items, the Officer-in-charge of the Akuse Female Prison, ADP Beatrice Asiedu expressed her appreciation to Telecel Ghana Foundation and Ridge Medical Center for their generosity and support, commending the initiative for prioritising the welfare of inmates through the health screening and supplies. “This kind and thoughtful gesture means a lot to the inmates and officers. It makes us feel remembered, valued, and genuinely cared for.”

Established in the 1990s as a small extension of the Akuse Local Prison, the Akuse Female Prison was created to house women in custody separately, after logistical challenges made transfers difficult. Originally built to hold just five inmates, it now accommodates over twenty and runs a range of rehabilitation programmes including baking and sewing to help reform and reintegrate inmates into society.

Beyond this outreach, Telecel Ghana has been celebrating its customers and frontline team throughout October with a variety of rewards, appreciation events, community engagements, and digital education. The annual celebration, which extends the global Customer Service Week into a full month of activities, is under the worldwide theme, Mission: Possible.

Being overconfident about an accidental merger while a strategic merger had failed; A case of Ghana’s MoCDTI

0

Images
Images

AirtelTigo has gone through real turbulence in the last few years, but to still hold and serve 3 million customers is an amazing story. What seem to have hit AirtelTigo the hardest is the recent roaming on Telecel cell sites when the towerco vendor, ATC, decided to shut down its cell sites that serve AirtelTigo.

While addressing AirtelTigo staff, the sector minister hailed the staff for the seamless job that was executed in record time to move the affected customers onto the Telecel network.

In the meeting, the Minister accidentally hinted a merger of the two entities as AirtelTigo was already roaming on Telecel. Nonetheless, a subsequent press engagement with the Minister clarified that the said merger was rather a Force Majeure, which does not explicitly make it a merger.

KPMG has since been contracted to review the entire investment and merger opportunities to advise government on the way forward.

The Telecom Industry in Ghana has seen some of the unpredictable happenings over the last 33 years when the first mobile telecommunications network, Mobitel (Now AirtelTigo) was launched.

We’ve seen several transitions of some operations, takeovers of some operations, and even a merger, which was the first of its kind in Africa. All these happenings are in attempts to serve the customer well and make good ROIs for shareholders.

We’ve seen global telecom operators like Vodafone, Airtel, and Millicom, who couldn’t survive the unique Ghanaian market, while MTN continues to thrive with a better understanding of Africa’s nuances.

“My experience in this industry tells me that you can’t just use a global strategy to attain local success. It doesn’t always work.” One gentleman said.

“For Example, while mobile money presented itself as a solution that Africans were ready to jump on, Millicom Ghana (Tigo) ignored that local nuances and rather channeled its efforts into building a music brand, TigoMusic. This was a typical global strategy that failed to gain local relevance.” He continued.

The current conversation about the telecom industry is very critical to Ghana and its citizens, especially as telecom serves over 90% of the population with connectivity (calls, Internet, money transfers).

A Merger
The country saw its first merger with Airtel and Tigo about 8 years ago. The “strategic” marriage between Bharti and Millicom, both with remarkable global presence and well-thought through plans and arrangements could not achieve its objectives and had to leave Ghana.

Today, conversations about a second merger is being entertained by the same government that was in power when the first merger conversation started.

Also, a merger brings Ghana to a duo poly which is not an industry best practice even though some countries with strong regulations are entertaining a two-player market.

Commenting on the Airtel and Tigo merger, the gentleman said, “I was very close to the first merger and I saw what happened. I can boldly say one plus one without the right investment can actually become less than one.”

“I’m not sure Telecel has the right investment, and even if they do, they must put that into their own network while AirtelTigo also uses the proposed external investments to turn its operations around.” He added.

Telecel promised $500m investment in first three years upon acquiring Vodafone, but we are yet to confirm how much of that investment has been pumped into the business after taking over two years ago.

A New Investor

AirtelTigo has seen bold attempts from two investors who are ready to make it a profitable business, regardless of how deep it has fallen. Hannam Investments signed an agreement with the previous government in 2023, while Rektron signed with the current government this year.

However, Rektron has come out to question the move by government to merge AirtelTigo with Telecel, which shows how committed they are to this agreement. This commitment is entrenched in Rektron’s initial $150m and a proposed $1b in five years, making it the biggest investment AirtelTigo has seen in the last 10 years.

“Telecom operation is capital intensive. What Ghana needs is not just a merger, but good investments that can revive AirtelTigo to become profitable.” Another gentleman added.

Opportunities and Risks

The biggest opportunity is the quality of employees that sit at AirtelTigo and the work they have done to keep the business alive regardless of all the odds that are against them. From the days of Mobitel, Buzz, Tigo, till today, Ghana has seen some of the brilliant telecom professionals emerging from the first mobile telecommunications company in Ghana, AirtelTigo.

The staff have been very instrumental in various technical telecom deployments even with its end-of-life systems, as the sector Minister puts it.

Rektron’s $1b investment over five years is a rare opportunity that can outrightly stabilise and propel AirtelTigo, considering the highly praised employees.

Even though a merger cannot be totally written off, it poses a bigger risk than the said investment from Rektron.

Guru sounds alarm over rising sexual deviance among Ghanaian youth

Guru is a popular Ghanaian rapper Guru is a popular Ghanaian rapper

Ghanaian rapper Guru Nkz has raised concerns over escalating cases of sexual deviance among youth, attributing part of the crisis to the widespread availability of pornography in the country.

In an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on November 3, 2025, Guru was asked whether sexual deviance is rampant in Ghana.

He affirmed, noting that the rates were increasing. This, he said, was the motivation behind his song “Ashawo.”

“It’s increasing. We are hearing cases of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases rising. That is why I did my song Ashawo, to warn the youth to stop. It’s not good,” he said.

Guru went on to blame easily accessible pornographic sites as a major contributor, questioning why a porn site ranks among the most visited websites in Ghana while religious and educational portals exist.

“Even in Ghana, pornography consumption is too high. I saw a list where a porn site was one of the most visited sites in the country. Meanwhile, Bible apps and many educational sites are available. Why are they watching porn?” he lamented.

We will show Ghanaians more porn – Manager of ‘porn’ TV station

He appealed to the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the relevant minister to step in and block access to such websites, pointing to countries like Dubai as examples of stringent regulation.

“I am calling on those in charge, the NCA and directors who can just block all harmful sites in the country. Other countries do that, Dubai, for example. It’s not something that requires much deliberation; our leaders can shut down all porn sites immediately if they want. They can’t pretend they aren’t seeing it. It means they don’t have the willpower,” he said.

“One thing I’ve seen in this team is unity, and when a team is united and ready to fight for each other, it’s hard to beat. We are very united, and I feel we are on the right track,” he said during an interview with Daily Graphic.

His comments come at a time when Otto Addo has faced intense public criticisms, with some sports personalities and fans calling for his dismissal.

Delhi’s lonely African elephant was killed by rare rodent-borne virus

0

Shankar endured a lonely existence in India after his companion died in 2001 Shankar endured a lonely existence in India after his companion died in 2001

A rodent-borne virus led to the death of the only African elephant at the zoo in India’s capital, Delhi, officials have told the BBC.

Shankar, a 29-year-old male, died on 17 September after spending much of his life in isolation.

The cause of his death wasn’t known at the time.

“Now, an autopsy has revealed that the elephant tested positive for encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV),” Delhi Zoo director Sanjeet Kumar said.

EMCV is known to cause fatal inflammation of the heart and sometimes brain fever in mammals.

The virus is spread through rodent faeces and urine.

Most outbreaks of EMCV have been associated with captive animals in pig farms, primate research centres, and zoos, according to the MSD veterinary manual.

The virus replicates rapidly and can attack the heart and sometimes the brain, often causing sudden death.

There is no specific antiviral cure available for EMCV so far.

According to a 2012 study in the peer-reviewed medical journal Virulence, EMCV has been documented around the world in pigs, rodents, big cats, and African elephants, among other mammals.

The virus, according to a report in Nature, was first isolated in 1945 from a gibbon in Florida.

Since the 1970s, local outbreaks have been reported in the US, South Africa, China, Australia, Canada, South America, and several countries in Europe.

The outbreaks in the US and South Africa particularly affected captive African elephants.

In India, the virus was first isolated in the late 1960s.

But Shankar’s is the first “recorded” death caused by EMCV in India, a senior official at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) told the BBC, adding that “there may have been unreported instances of mammals dying because of EMCV”.

Shankar’s autopsy was conducted at IVRI.

Mr Kumar, the zoo director, did not answer specific questions about how Shankar may have got the infection and whether there was a rodent problem at the zoo.

“It is a rare virus and I am not an expert on it,” he said.

Shankar’s death had triggered sadness among animal lovers and activists who had long sought to rehabilitate the lonely animal.

He was among two African elephants that arrived in India in 1998 as a diplomatic gift from Zimbabwe to former Indian President Shankar Dayal Sharma.

But Shankar’s companion died in 2001. He was then temporarily lodged with Asian elephants in the zoo, but the plan did not work.

In 2012, Shankar was moved to a new enclosure that left him virtually in solitary confinement – despite a 2009 federal ban on keeping elephants alone for more than six months.

He remained there until his death.

For years, activists had demanded that Shankar be removed from the zoo and rehabilitated in a wildlife sanctuary that houses other African elephants.

In 2021, a petition in Delhi’s high court sought Shankar’s relocation to a sanctuary with other African elephants.

Two years later, the court dismissed the petition, directing the petitioner to approach a committee handling transfers of wild animals by zoos.

After Shankar’s death, there is only one African elephant left in India – an adult male at Mysore Zoo in southern Karnataka state.

He has also been living alone for years.

CIMG Not For Marketers Alone – President

Michael Abbiew

President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), Michael Abbiew, has emphasised that the professional body is not solely established for marketers or salespeople, and therefore welcomes individuals from diverse professional backgrounds to join.

Speaking at the 2nd Graduation Ceremony and the 44th Induction and Conferment Ceremony of CIMG, Mr. Abbiew noted that the institute’s scope extends beyond marketing and sales, embracing professionals from various disciplines.

“CIMG is not only for marketers or salespeople. Within our ranks, we proudly count lawyers, accountants, engineers, entrepreneurs and business owners who recognise that marketing is the heartbeat of every successful organisation. We are a family of professionals united by one vision. So, if you are not yet a member of CIMG, I warmly invite you to join us. Become part of this growing community,” he said.

He further stated that a critical component of CIMG’s strategic agenda is to enhance membership engagement, explaining, “By increasing membership and deepening engagement, we strengthen the collective voice of marketing professionals across the nation. Our members benefit from continuous professional development resources, networking opportunities, recognition programmes and welfare initiatives.”

Mr. Abbiew added that CIMG is mandated to set professional marketing standards and regulate the practice of marketing in Ghana through education, professional development, research and stakeholder engagement.

“Our mission is to develop globally competitive and locally impactful marketers, focusing on professional development, qualifications, membership and the elevation of marketing excellence across all sectors,” he stated.

Mr. Abbiew also announced CIMG’s forthcoming mentorship programme, specifically designed to enable young professionals to find their feet in this dynamic industry.

The programme, he said, will create pathways for emerging marketers to connect with experienced practitioners who can offer guidance and provide the encouragement needed to navigate early career challenges.

In a speech, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, commended the graduates on the successful completion of their CIMG Professional Marketing Qualifications programme.

He noted that professional marketing education should not simply be about selling products or services, but about shaping the future of the nation.

“By investing in this, Ghana can unlock new opportunities, drive sustainable development and position itself as a competitive player on the global stage. I urge CIMG to continue engaging government in respect of public sector marketing, applying strategic marketing tools to improve public service delivery and deepen governance accountability across all government agencies and organisations,” he added.

The former Vice President and 2024 Presidential Candidate of the NPP is seeking re-election to lead the party into the 2028 general election.

The Chairman’s visit forms part of a broader nationwide mobilisation effort aimed at consolidating support for Dr Bawumia ahead of the party’s upcoming presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

His presence in Ellembelle, a constituency noted for its strategic political influence in the Western Region, was described by local executives as a strong show of unity and commitment to the Bawumia campaign.

Addressing party supporters, the National Chairman commended Dr Bawumia’s leadership, vision, and resilience, describing him as the right man to continue the NPP’s transformation agenda.

“I am very grateful for this recognition from Germany,” he said. “It is, however, sad that sometimes it takes another country to value what we do for Ghana. I will continue to work for the good of our country through collaboration with our German friends.”

Professor Frimpong-Boateng trained as a medical doctor at the University of Ghana. He pursued postgraduate studies in Germany, qualifying as a general, vascular, and cardiothoracic surgeon.

He returned to Ghana in 1989, established the National Cardiothoracic Centre in 1992, and later served as Chief Executive Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

He became a professor at the University of Ghana Medical School and also served as Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation from 2017 to 2021.

The Federal Cross of Merit, also known as Verdienstkreuz am Bande, is one of Germany’s highest honours. It is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to the country or helped advance Germany’s relations with other nations.

President Steinmeier’s visit to Ghana is focused on strengthening bilateral ties, with engagements covering economic cooperation, education, and sustainable development.

The Office of the Attorney General (AG) has withdrawn all charges against a Manager of Akonta Mining Company Limited, Edward Akuoko, who is also the fourth accused in the ongoing Akonta mining case.

According to a formal notice filed at the Accra High Court on Monday, November 3, 2025, the withdrawal was made in accordance with section 59 of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (Act 30).

The notice, signed by the Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem Sai, stated that Edward Akuoko had been discharged from prosecution in connection with all charges brought against him.

The High Court on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, withdrew a bench warrant it issued earlier for the arrest of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Wontumi, Akonta Mining, director slapped with 6 criminal charges

The decision followed his appearance in court shortly after the warrant was issued.

According to the charge sheet, Akonta Mining Company Limited, registered in 2010, is jointly owned by Bernard Antwi Boasiako (A2) and Kwame Antwi (A3), though prosecutors claim that Wontumi has exercised sole operational control since the company’s inception.

Prosecution says they are still working to verify the existence or identity of the listed co-director.

The investigation, led by the Ghana Police Service, according to the prosecution, was triggered by petitions alleging that Akonta Mining was operating unlawfully within the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve, despite lacking the necessary permits and approvals.

Afriyie Acquah’s penalty miss for All Stars rekindles memories of 2015 AFCON final

Afriyie Acquah missed a penalty during the Monday All Stars Afriyie Acquah missed a penalty during the Monday All Stars

Former Black Stars midfielder, Afriyie Acquah was at the center of attention once again after missing a penalty during the Monday All Stars match, a moment that instantly reignited painful memories of the 2015 AFCON final.

Midway through the friendly encounter, Acquah stepped up to take a penalty for his side.

His low effort to the goalkeeper’s right was well-read and parried away by the goalkeeper, before a teammate blasted the rebound high over the bar.

What should have been a lighthearted charity match quickly turned nostalgic for all the wrong reasons.

GFA to organize testimonial match for Asamoah Gyan

As clips of the miss circulated online, fans couldn’t help but recall that unforgettable night in Equatorial Guinea, when Ghana squandered a 2–0 lead in the penalty shootout to Ivory Coast, losing 9–8, with Acquah among those who failed to convert from the spot.

The reactions online were a mix of humour, frustration, and lingering heartbreak. Many fans drew a direct line between Monday’s miss and that fateful night in Bata, suggesting that Acquah still hasn’t escaped the ghosts of AFCON 2015.

Some lamented that nothing had changed after a decade, while others sarcastically called it “a reminder of why Ghana’s trophy drought continues.”

A few even joked that Afriyie Acquah must have “AFCON penalties on his mind” every time he steps up to take one.

Two former Ken supporters endorse Dr Bawumia in Western Region

0

Two former supporters of NPP Flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, have endorsed former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 election.

The two – NPP Constituency Chairman for Jomoro, Mathew Nda, and former MCE for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira, Eric Essien, announced their unflinching support for Dr Bawumia during his campaign tour of Jomoro, in the Western Region on Monday November 3, 2025.

The Jomoro Constituency Chairman and the former MCE, paid tributes to Bawumia, highlighting his humility and good character, as well as his marketability, which they said, is crucial for the NPP to reclaim power.

“His humility is remarkable. Eventhough he has risen to the position of Vice President, he is so humble and he accords everyone with respect” said Mathew Nda, the Jomoro Constituency Chairman.

“These are the qualities we want for someone to occupy the seat of President. So I want to say on behalf of our delegates, as Chairman of the Constituency, that we are going for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” the Chairman added, amidst wild cheers of approval from the delegates.

On his part, the former MCE, Essien, said Bawumia is the best among the contenders, to win power for the NPP, having already been marketed and well known across the country, and urged delegates to be guided by history and retain Bawumia, as they did with Kufuor and Akufo-Addo, before they were eventually elected president.

“What I simply want to say is that as a former MCE for this Municipality, politics is about numbers. When somebody already has the numbers, you keep the person and add up. Our first President, Kufuor got 39% and we didn’t replace him. We supported him to go again and he won us political power,” he said.

“Then came Akufo-Addo. He also didn’t win on his first attempt but we backed him 3 times before the God of Israel opened the door for him. We never changed them.”

“Former Vice President Bawumia got 41% and he’s so close to the mark. Some things happened and our own supporters didn’t vote and it affected us after being in power for 8 years.”

“So I want to appeal to all delegates that, let’s not change our candidate because it will be a big curse for us. Let us vote for him massively so we can rally behind him to win the 2028 election.”

Dr Bawumia has been campaigning in the Western Region since the weekend, and his endorsement by two former Kennedy Agyapong supporters, who command respect in the area, has been described by observers as a massive boost in the region.

Gorgeous Lace Styles for Women

0

Lace has long been regarded as a hallmark of femininity, sophistication, and timeless elegance within the realm of women’s fashion. From vintage gowns to modern streetwear, lace continues to transform while preserving its romantic allure. This exquisite fabric, frequently linked to luxury and intricacy, has firmly established its presence in the wardrobes of women across various generations and styles.

Historically, lace symbolized status, donned by royalty and the elite. In contemporary times, it has become accessible to all and is prominently featured in dresses, blouses, skirts, and accessories. One of lace’s most remarkable attributes is its versatility. Whether you are attending a formal gathering, heading to the office, or dressing casually for brunch, there exists a lace style that perfectly fits the occasion.

For formal events, lace dresses—particularly in black, white, or jewel tones—exude an aura of grace and sophistication. A long-sleeved lace gown or a cocktail dress adorned with lace accents can be both captivating and elegant without revealing too much. Designers frequently employ lace to create contrast with solid fabrics or to introduce a sheer element that enhances the design while maintaining modesty.

In everyday attire, lace is often utilized to infuse a hint of femininity into otherwise simple ensembles. A lace-trimmed blouse paired with jeans can elevate a casual appearance, while a lace skirt can soften structured pieces such as a blazer or leather jacket. Even lace accessories—like scarves, gloves, or handbags—can subtly introduce texture and style.

The contemporary lace trend has also embraced boldness. Colored lace, asymmetrical cuts, and the fusion of materials like denim or leather impart a modern edge to this classic fabric. Designers now explore oversized lace patterns and 3D lace to appeal to a younger, trend-savvy audience.

Ultimately, the lace style for women embodies a harmonious balance—melding softness with structure, elegance with everyday wearability. Whether your preference leans towards classic romance or edgy fashion, lace remains a potent and enduring element in women’s style.

I Paid Akufo-Addo Due Compliments – Sam George Tackles Snub Rumours

0

Sam Nartey George

Tensions flared on social media after a video went viral which appeared to show Communication Minister Sam Nartey George bypassing former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo without exchanging pleasantries.

Over the weekend, notable political figures, both from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) gathered to commemorate the first anniversary of the passing of the son of former Interior Minister, Henry Quartey.

The all-white event saw Sam George exchanging pleasantries with members of the New Patriotic Party, which has since become a topic for discussion on the internet.

Nonetheless, Popony_j, an NDC social media commentator, posted a 0.13 seconds video on X of the Minister bypassing the former President under the caption, “Sam George and Nana Addo beef be everlasting oo.” has since generated over 440.9k views.

This has generated varied opinions on X. Felix Ayumu, under the post wrote, “Post the whole video, I don’t think @samgeorgegh or any of the ministers understand this government will do this to Nana Addo. They may disagree with him but will not do this to him in public.”

Processor_911 wrote, “Massa why? You can’t tell me Sam saw the former president and never greeted him. This must be a coincidence. Or a deliberate cut video. You people should stop this nonsense.”

Sam George reacted to the video, calling it “unfortunate” and urging people to ignore the said post made by Popony_j.

He wrote, “This is most unfortunate. I spent over a full minute exchanging pleasantries with the former President. I may have disagreed vehemently with him as President, but even when he was President, I ALWAYS paid him due compliments and respects. My exchange with him yesterday was cordial. Whatever you seek to achieve, I leave you to your conscience and GOD.”

Carbon Credits Within The Ghanaian Business Landscape & The Laws That Govern It (1)

0

The writer

This article examines the concept of Carbon Credits within the Ghanaian business landscape and the laws that govern it.  As the Environmental, Social, and Governance principles increasingly influence sustainable business and investment decisions, it has become essential for organizations globally to assess their sustainability and ethical impact.

And Carbon Credits play a critical role in that assessment. They fall under the Environmental (“E”) principle and are particularly relevant in Ghana, where our natural ecosystems present significant opportunities for reducing emissions.

What are carbon credits?

Carbon credits are licences that allow the owner to emit a certain amount of carbon dioxide (“CO₂”) or other greenhouse gases (“GHGs”). One credit allows the emission of one ton of CO₂ or its equivalent in other GHGs. Carbon credits are also known as carbon allowances. The ultimate goal of the carbon credit system is to reduce the emission of GHGs into the atmosphere.

Why does Ghana sell its carbon credits?

As a Member of the United Nations, Ghana is allocated a specific number of carbon credits and is responsible for issuing, monitoring, and reporting its carbon credit status annually.

The Government of Ghana has therefore set limits on the amount of GHGs that companies operating in the country can emit without needing to purchase additional credits from another country.

However, if Ghana has excess carbon credits, we can sell the excess on a carbon exchange or marketplace. This system is commonly known as a cap-and-trade program.

How do carbon credits work?

Traditionally, carbon credits have been used for carbon offsetting, which means compensating for GHG emissions by either:

Avoiding emissions – preventing emissions from being released in the first place (e.g., replacing a coal power plant with solar energy), or

Enhancing removals – actively pulling CO₂ out of the atmosphere and storing it safely, such as in trees, soil, or with carbon capture technology.

In carbon markets, organizations can buy and retire carbon credits instead of reducing all their own emissions directly. Each credit represents one ton of CO₂ that was either avoided or removed elsewhere.

This approach is effective because, in terms of climate impact, it does not matter where in the world the emission is reduced or removed; the positive effect on the atmosphere is the same. Therefore, a company can either: reduce its own emissions directly, or pay for a project elsewhere to achieve the same effect.

Carbon credits are not always used to compensate for or to offset emissions. In recent years, some parties have begun using carbon credits to contribute to climate change mitigation without making any explicit compensation or offsetting claim.

What laws govern the sale and use of carbon credits in Ghana?

The Environmental Protection Agency Act 2025 (Act 1124)

The Environmental Protection Agency Act 2025 (Act 1124) regulates carbon credits in Ghana. It introduces specific regulations and guidelines for project approval, monitoring, and verification of carbon credits to ensure transparency and alignment with international standards.

These efforts support initiatives such as reforestation, sustainable land use, and clean cooking technologies that help reduce emissions while benefiting local communities.

Through the EPA and the passage of the new Environmental Protection Act, 2025, Act 1124 (“EPA Act”), which repealed the EPA 1994, Act 490, Ghana has established the Carbon Markets Office (“CMO”) within the Climate Change Unit of the EPA.

The CMO serves as the secretariat, providing administrative and technical services to the public and supporting the implementation of Ghana’s International Carbon Market and non-market approaches framework.

The CMO is responsible for implementing policies, rules, and guidance on carbon credit transactions, providing targeted support for:

Mitigation activity sourcing and matchmaking;

Activity development services;

Monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems;

Registry operations;

Creation and transfer of ITMOs; and

Reporting and corresponding adjustments

The EPA Act also establishes the Ghana Carbon Registry (“GCR”), an online database system designed for carbon market project activities within Ghana and internationally.

The GCR collects and tracks the transfer and use of ITMOs, facilitating the listing and registration of mitigation activities and voluntary carbon market projects.

This GCR, introduced in the new EPA Act, is managed by a secretariat under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. It is operated by the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation in collaboration with the EPA.

The GCR adheres to high-quality standards and protocols for quantifying and verifying greenhouse gas emissions reductions, issuing carbon credits, and tracking these credits transparently. This infrastructure supports Ghana’s participation in various carbon market mechanisms.

The Paris Agreement – An international treaty on climate change.

The Paris Agreement is an international treaty focused on combating climate change. It was adopted by 195 parties at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris, France, on December 12, 2015, and officially came into force on November 4, 2016.

The treaty is legally binding and aims to limit the increase in global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, with efforts to restrict the temperature rise to 1.5°C.

Under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, Ghana and Switzerland signed a bilateral agreement in 2020 that facilitates the international transfer of carbon credits between member states.

This agreement allows Ghana to sell units of carbon credits, known as Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs), to Switzerland.

In exchange, Switzerland provides investments, supports capacity building, and grants access to technologies that are not readily available through domestic resources. Switzerland purchases these units to help meet its own climate goals.

This bilateral agreement marks the first instance of ITMOs being issued for Nationally Determined Contribution (“NDC”) purposes for a mitigation activity implemented in Africa.

Some key initiatives under this agreement include:

The Ghana Climate-Smart Rice Project: This project aims to reduce methane emissions from rice farming and enhance water use efficiency.

The Transformative Cookstove Activity in Rural Ghana: This initiative seeks to replace traditional, inefficient stoves with improved cookstoves (“ICS”) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve household air quality.

Integrated waste recycling and composting for methane reduction in Ghana: This strategy is processing this waste into compost, the initiative not only cuts greenhouse gas emissions but also produces valuable fertilizer for agriculture.

It is important to note that Ghana stands out as one of the few African countries proactively structuring its carbon market ecosystem.

Through legislative, policy, and institutional reforms, Ghana aims to become a hub for credible and high-integrity carbon credit generation, especially through nature-based and community-driven projects.

Why do companies buy carbon credits?

Companies purchase carbon credits to legally emit more GHGs. They also acquire carbon offsets, which help them to achieve a “net-zero carbon emission” status, which means that the amount of carbon a company or country adds to the air is the same as the amount it takes out. In other words, the goal is not to increase the total carbon in the atmosphere.

As public and institutional pressure grows, many companies are making these net-zero commitments in response to the urgency of the climate crisis. These pledges are designed to reduce or offset the amount of carbon emitted through their operations.

While some companies can alter their business practices to reduce emissions, the complete elimination of emissions is not feasible for many firms.

Wontumi’s lawyer reacts to AG’s move to drop charges against 4th accused person

Andy Appiah-Kubi is the Lawyer for Chairman Wontumi Andy Appiah-Kubi is the Lawyer for Chairman Wontumi

Lawyer for Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, has expressed disappointment in the Attorney General’s decision to drop charges against the General Manager of Akonta Mining.

The AG’s decision came after Edward Akuoko, the former fourth accused person, offered to testify against the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi.

Attorney General withdraws all charges against Akonta Mining manager – Here’s why

Edward Akuoko, together with Wontumi, had been facing multiple charges, including undertaking a mining operation without a license and felling or abetting the felling of trees in a forest reserve without written authorisation.

Reacting to the development in an interview with TV3 on November 4, 2025, Appiah-Kubi said that Dr Ayine’s actions suggest an intention to undermine justice.

Appiah-Kubi questioned why the Attorney General would rely on the statement of the former accused person to prosecute others, and vowed to resist such attempts, which he described as ‘oppressors rule.’

“… If the Attorney General, with all the materials and all the resources available to him, including human personnel, is just for him to only rely on the former accused person to prosecute a matter against one of the accused persons or some of the accused persons, and he thinks that justice may not be undermined, that is his decision.

“I would have thought that his role as Minister of Justice would have persuaded him at all times to be careful that freedom and justice of the moment be served also on all the accused persons until they are proven guilty. The way that the Attorney General appears to be poaching his own accused persons suggests that there is an intent to undermine the cause of justice. We will resist the oppressor’s rule,” he said.

Appiah-Kubi, the former Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, added that they have formally been served with a notice from the AG to withdraw charges against Edward Akuoko and will act accordingly.

He maintained his clients’ innocence, insisting that they are not guilty.

‘Wontumi will be jailed for 15 years’ – Prophet Roja prophesies

“We have just been served with the notice of withdrawal of the fourth accused person, so they have come under the rules of court and have every right to do so. We are going to prepare our case when they are ready. It doesn’t change our position. We have still pleaded not guilty, and we will come to prosecute the case religiously in the best of our professional expertise,” he added.

Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has said that although the late Daddy Lumba once mentored and supported him as a young artiste, he is not doing the same for anyone in the music industry currently.

In an interview on Hitz FM on November 4, 2025, Ofori Amponsah, who rose to fame under the guidance of Daddy Lumba, said that while he once extended similar support to other musicians such as Kofi Nti and Kofi B, he currently has no protégé.

He explained that mentoring and nurturing a young artiste is a challenging task because it often requires a lot.

‘He took me in and mentored me’ – Ofori Amponsah delivers a heartfelt tribute to Daddy Lumba

According to him, some young artistes tend to develop a sense of entitlement once they are given a platform without understanding the struggles that come with success.

Ofori Amponsah said that some young musicians want to instantly enjoy the lifestyle of their mentors without having endured the process of growth.

“At the moment, no. But I did it for Kofi Nti, Kofi B and others. The reason being, it’s a difficult thing; sometimes you just lift up a person from where he is to your level, and if the person has not gone through…it would be a problem. If you have a car, they want one. If you have a girl, they want one too. Everything you have, they want the same,” he added.

Daddy Lumba served as a father figure, guiding and transforming Ofori Amponsah’s career, teaching him the values of hard work and consistency in the industry.

Ofori Amponsah rose to fame in the early 2000s after working closely with Daddy Lumba on several hit songs, such as ‘Woho Kyere’, ‘Anti Atta’, ‘Odo Mmra Fie’, among others.

Synergice Events Private Limited, under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and in partnership with CCFI France Ghana and other international stakeholders, hosted the 4th Edition of BUILDEXPO and Power Energy Ghana Exhibition from October 30–31, 2025, in Accra.

The two-day exhibition brought together key players from Ghana’s energy, construction, and industrial sectors, along with international exhibitors from India, France, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, the United States, and Egypt. The event served as a platform for innovation, knowledge exchange, and strategic business networking within the built environment and renewable energy space.

GUTA President Calls for Improved Trade Fair Standards

In his remarks, Dr. Joseph Obeng, President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), expressed concern over the current scale and impact of trade fairs in Ghana, urging the government and organizers to elevate the standards to match international benchmarks.

“I felt very uncomfortable when this fair was described as the biggest in West Africa,” Dr. Obeng said. “If we are going to do it, we must do it well. When other nations organize fairs, people travel from across the world to see innovations and new technologies, and to transact serious business. What we see here is nothing to write home about.”

Dr. Obeng emphasized the need to revitalize Ghana’s Trade Fair Centre and position it as a regional hub for industrial exhibitions.

“When we were growing up, we used to visit the Trade Fair Centre and witness groundbreaking innovations that influenced businesses. We must bring that back, especially as the President resets the national development agenda,” he added.

He also highlighted the importance of leveraging exhibitions like BUILDEXPO to explore alternative energy sources and energy-efficient technologies, given rising electricity costs.

“These fairs give traders and entrepreneurs the opportunity to explore solar, wind, and gas technologies locally rather than traveling abroad,” Dr. Obeng said, adding that such initiatives would also help strengthen Ghana’s emerging 24-hour economy and support industrialization efforts.

Government Reaffirms Commitment to Green Energy Transition

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. Richard Gyan-Mensah, Deputy Minister for Energy, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reforming the energy sector through transparency, renewable energy adoption, and private sector participation.

“Energy is the backbone of industrialization,” Dr. Gyan-Mensah stated. “Every factory that opens, every business that expands, and every home that lights up is powered by electricity and infrastructure. That is why Ghana continues to prioritize reforms, innovation, and private sector collaboration to build a

resilient, inclusive, and future-ready economy.”

He outlined several ongoing reforms within the ministry, including:

Ÿ IPP Tariff Rationalization to ensure affordable electricity while maintaining investor confidence.

Ÿ Competitive and transparent procurement frameworks for power generation.

Ÿ Strengthened Cash Waterfall Mechanism to ensure predictable payments across the energy value chain.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to maintain a firm monetary policy stance, despite recent reductions in interest rates.

The Fund emphasised the importance of anchoring inflation expectations within the single-digit range, highlighting the need for continued vigilance by the Central Bank.

Ghana has made notable progress in curbing inflation, which has fallen sharply from 24% in 2024 to 9.4% as of September 2025. Concurrently, the BoG has lowered its benchmark policy rate from a peak of 28% in March to 21.3%.

Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV on November 3, 2025, IMF Resident Representative to Ghana, Dr Adrian Alter, commended the BoG’s efforts in managing inflation but stressed the need for ongoing policy discipline.

“The BoG has kept its monetary policy consistently tight and has effectively reduced inflationary pressures through prudent measures,” Dr Alter stated.

“While the decision to cut rates from 28% to the current 21.5% reflects progress, it’s important to also consider real interest rates,” he explained.

He further noted that maintaining a cautious monetary approach, alongside sustained fiscal discipline, will be critical to consolidating Ghana’s disinflation achievements and bolstering investor confidence in the economy.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a strong warning to customers to be wary of fraudulent phone calls from individuals posing as company officials and offering to expedite the acquisition of electricity meters.

According to ECG, these impostors have been contacting customers under the pretext of assisting them to secure new meters or resolve meter-related challenges. The callers often claim that ECG has taken delivery of new meters and proceed to ask customers whether they have applied for one or are experiencing difficulties with their existing meters. They then attempt to solicit personal information or money from unsuspecting victims.

The Company noted that in some instances, these fraudsters download photographs of ECG staff from digital platforms and use them to impersonate officials in order to extort money from customers.

Speaking in an interview, Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, the General Manager for External Relations, clarified that ECG has not authorised any individual or third-party agent to privately contact customers about meter acquisition or related services.

“We are aware of people calling ECG customers pretending to be staff and asking if they have applied for a meter or are facing issues. They usually claim they can help secure a new meter quickly because new meters are available. This is false,” Dr Ayiku stressed.

He emphasised that ECG does not conduct meter distribution through private phone calls, adding that all legitimate processes for new meter applications are handled strictly at ECG offices or via official platforms.

Dr Ayiku confirmed that ECG has indeed received new meters as part of operational enhancements, but maintained that the distribution process remains transparent and strictly guided by approved applications.

He therefore urged customers to visit the nearest ECG office to apply for a meter or seek redress for any meter-related concerns. He cautioned the public against engaging individuals who promise shortcuts or demand payment to facilitate the process.

“Customers should not pay money to anyone who claims they can get them a meter outside our offices. These are fraudulent activities intended to deceive the public,” he warned.

Dr Ayiku further reminded customers that ECG does not operate any mobile money account, insisting that all financial transactions must be conducted exclusively through the ECG Power App or official channels [short code *226#].

ECG encouraged customers who receive suspicious calls to report them immediately to the nearest ECG office or contact the company, reaffirming its commitment to protecting customers from scams while ensuring ongoing transparency and improved service delivery nationwide.

Customers who encounter such fraudulent activities are also advised to report the perpetrators to the nearest police station.
