Interior Minister orders implementation of election violence report

0

By Gifty Amofa, GNA

Accra, Nov. 4, GNA – Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister of Interior, has directed the full implementation of recommendations from the Special Investigation Taskforce on election violence to ensure justice prevails.

Addressing the media in Accra, he said the report, which was submitted to the President, covered incidents from the 2020 and 2024 general elections, including the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

He disclosed that four cases were currently pending in court, three were under investigation, and two had been resolved by the parties involved.

Quoting the report, Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarak said military involvement in crowd control should cease to prevent deaths resulting from excessive force.

“There were instances of clear breaches of discipline, violations of legal requirements and total neglects by officers who were either present or responsible for situations that required prompt and responsive actions,” he said.

In some cases, the Minister noted, security personnel used live ammunition, leading to fatalities and injuries.

The report documented 12 cases of electoral violence across both elections, resulting in 15 deaths and 39 injuries.

According to the Minister, the 2020 elections recorded six cases, eight deaths, and 30 injuries, while the 2024 elections saw six cases, seven deaths, and nine injuries.

The report recommended improved coordination of election security management to determine appropriate use of force during crowd control.

Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarak assured Ghanaians of government’s commitment to ending electoral violence.

“Perpetrators of the violence would be prosecuted, families of deceased would be compensated whilst those injured would also be given the due compensation,” he said.

The Minister named the affected constituencies as Ablekuma Central, Ahafo Ano West, Awutu Senya, Ayawaso West Wuogon, Banda Ahenkro, Damango, Nkoransa South, Odododiodio, Savelugu, and Techiman South.

He called for the empowerment of all security personnel to prevent future occurrences.

Kennedy Agyapong exposed

In Kennedy Agyapong’s bid to make political mincemeat using his own regional balance ignorantly classified all five regions in the Northern part of Ghana as the North.

A move that has consistently been criticized by various stakeholders and policymakers.

In what appears to be a campaign in the Eastern region, the NPP firebrand is heard telling party delegates that Ghanaians will not vote for another person from the Eastern Region, as well as a candidate from the North.

Latest data from the Bank of Ghana shows that the Central Bank’s total gold reserves as of the end of October 2025 reached 38.04 tonnes.

This was disclosed in the bank’s market data released on November 5, 2025.

This represents an increase of more than 35% compared to the 28.1 tonnes recorded in October 2024.

According to the BoG, total gold holdings stood at 30.53 tonnes in December 2024, indicating that approximately 7.51 tonnes were added between January and October 2025.

Ghana’s gold reserves hit record 37.06 tonnes – Bank of Ghana

The BoG attributed the growth in its gold reserves to its Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

Launched in 2011, the initiative aims to strengthen Ghana’s reserve position by diversifying the bank’s holdings through direct purchases of gold from locally licensed mining companies.

Additionally, the move forms part of broader measures by the Bank of Ghana to reduce over-reliance on the US dollar.

‘We’re going to do things to Nigeria’

President Donald Trump says the US military would go into Nigeria President Donald Trump says the US military would go into Nigeria

The President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, has doubled down on his threat of military action in Nigeria, over what he has described as the killing of Christians by Islamic extremists.

Speaking at the White House on November 5, 2025, the US president asserted that his country would not sit by as Christians are slaughtered in the West African country.

He went on to order the Department of War to ready themselves for action in Nigeria, adding that the US military, if need be, would descend on Nigeria to kill all the terrorists.

“We’re going to do things to Nigeria that Nigeria is not going to be happy about. And we may very well go into that now-graced country, guns blazing, to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible, horrible atrocities.

“I’m hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it would be fast, vicious, and sweet, just as the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians,” Trump warned.

The US president stated that something must be done in Nigeria because the Christian population of the country is likely to be wiped out.

Nigeria pushes back on Trump’s claims over Christian killings

“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands and thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a country of particular concern; that’s a legal definition. When Christians or any such group are slaughtered, as is happening in Nigeria — 3,100 versus 4,476 worldwide — what horrible numbers. Something has to be done,” he said.

The president also asked the US Congress to look into the issue in Nigeria and get back to him “immediately.”

“I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter and to report back to me. And I mean, like, immediately. The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries.

“It’s not only Nigeria, it’s all over. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world. This is not going to happen. The killing of Christians is not going to happen,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government has dismissed the earlier claims made by US President Donald Trump about the persecution of Christians in the West African nation, insisting that religious freedom is fully protected under the country’s constitution.

Responding to a reporter’s question at a news conference in Berlin on Tuesday, Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar held up a document whose cover read ‘Nigeria’s Constitutional Commitment to Religious Freedom and Rule of Law.’

“All the answers are in there. This is what guides us,” Tuggar said, speaking alongside Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

“It’s impossible for there to be religious persecution that can be supported in any way, shape, or form by the government of Nigeria at any level.”

Peasant Farmers Association calls for immediate action to resolve grain glut crisis in the country

0

According to PFAG, farmers now face threats from bird invasions and bushfires According to PFAG, farmers now face threats from bird invasions and bushfires

The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has expressed deep concern over the ongoing grain glut, which is causing severe hardship for farmers across the country.

In a press release issued by the executives of the association, PFAG revealed that over 200,000 metric tonnes of unsold paddy rice and maize remain from the last farming season, while many rice farms are still unharvested.

Farmers now face threats from bird invasions, bushfires and limited harvesting capacity challenges that could jeopardize all their investments if drastic action is not taken.

According to the association, this situation has the potential to derail the government’s Feed Ghana Programme, as it could demotivate many farmers, especially the youth, from engaging in productive farming activities during the next planting season.

“Earlier, the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) announced the release of GHS 100 million to purchase excess produce and set minimum guaranteed prices for maize, rice, and gari.

“Though these prices were not ideal, it was seen as a positive step, representing a better alternative to those offered by middlemen. Sadly, farmers are yet to witness the purchase of their grains by approved buying companies. To date, there is no information or data on which districts have benefited, raising concerns about accountability and transparency,” the association stated.

While commending the Ministry for swiftly releasing the GH¢100 million to address the crisis, PFAG urged greater transparency and efficiency in the process.

To restore farmers’ confidence in the government, PFAG is demanding:

The immediate publication of companies, locations, and quantities of grains procured with the initial GH¢100 million.

Clear timelines for the commencement of grain purchases under the new GHS 100 million allocation.

A published list of all approved Licensed Buying Companies, Millers, and Aggregators, along with their assigned locations, for direct farmer engagement.

PFAG emphasized that these measures should be implemented and announced immediately to protect farmers’ investments.

The association also reiterated its earlier recommendations, including:

Legislation mandating all state institutions—such as schools, hospitals, and security services—to procure only locally produced rice and maize.

Strengthened border controls to prevent the smuggling of inferior rice and a temporary ban on rice imports until the situation stabilizes.

Coordinated public campaigns by relevant ministries and stakeholders to promote local rice consumption.

PFAG believes that the immediate implementation of these measures will alleviate farmers’ distress and safeguard national food security. Failure to act, it warned, could result in reduced rice production and undermine Ghana’s goal of achieving rice self-sufficiency.

The association further called on the government and stakeholders to develop a long-term national strategy to address marketing challenges across all crops — including vegetables, cereals and legumes to prevent future crises.

Aburi Girls’ Senior High School has received a new multipurpose basketball court, unveiled and handed over by alumna Madam Aurora Commodore-Toppar, Treasurer of the Ghana Basketball Federation (GBF).

Funded through the support of her family, children, and friends, the project—dubbed the Aurora Legacy Project—is located on the school’s Upper Court.

The facility features a fibreglass surface, breakaway basketball rims, and a durable acrylic coating suited for multiple sports, including basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton, and handball. Construction was undertaken by PAK Sports Consult.

The unveiling ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Madam Commodore-Toppar’s father and former Hearts of Oak Board Chairman, Emmanuel Martey Commodore-Mensah, former headmistress Alice Prempeh-Fordjour, and AOGA 2000 Year Group President, Madam Akua Boahemah Owusu Sekyere.

Speaking at the event, Madam Commodore-Toppar—captain of the school’s basketball team that won the Eastern Region Schools’ Basketball Championship in 2000—shared that the project fulfilled a personal pledge she made to God upon completing school.

“The dream was born in 2000… I stood on the staircase to the Lower Court and promised God that if He saw me through my exams, I would honour Him with a pledge,” she recalled.

She began saving towards the project in 2012, accumulating GH¢100,000 before construction commenced. She also announced a Phase Two of the Aurora Legacy Project, which will feature tiered bleacher seats for spectators.

Madam Commodore-Toppar expressed gratitude to all donors and supporters, including Samuel Vasmark, Ben Nunoo Mensah, Madam Naa Kuorkor Nikoi, Kobby Woyome Mensah, Coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko (UDS), Col. Samuel Ahmedu (Rtd.), TT Brothers Limited, and customers of ADB, Kaneshie branch.

Alex Kukula, Vice President of the GBF, commended the project, describing it as one of the best courts in the country.

In remarks read on her behalf, Headmistress Madam Wilhelmina Obuobisa-Atakora lauded the facility as a tool to promote fitness, discipline, resilience, and leadership among students.

The event concluded with exhibition matches, where the school’s basketball team triumphed 13–0 over their predecessors, and Team A of the volleyball squad edged Team B by 15–13.

Sudanese Ambassador seeks Ghana’s support for peace efforts in Sudan

0

The Sudanese Ambassador to Ghana, Gariballa Khidir Ali, has called on the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to seek Ghana’s support in restoring peace and stability in Sudan amid the country’s ongoing conflict.

During a courtesy visit to Parliament on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Ambassador Khidir Ali commended Ghana for its long-standing reputation as a beacon of democracy and peace on the African continent.

He noted that in times of crisis, Ghana continues to stand out as a trusted ally and a reliable partner.

“We are open to African-led initiatives and solutions, and we believe Ghana can play a pivotal role in this process,” he said, expressing optimism that with the collective efforts of African nations, Sudan could overcome its current challenges and rebuild stability.

Alban Bagbin, in his remarks, thanked the Sudanese delegation for their confidence in Ghana’s leadership and reaffirmed the country’s solidarity with the people of Sudan.

“Sudan remains a strategic partner in Africa’s development, and instability in Sudan affects the continent as a whole,” the Speaker said. “It will take a collective African resolve to bring lasting peace to the region.”

He pledged Ghana’s continued commitment to supporting Sudan through peacebuilding initiatives, technical cooperation, advocacy, training, and parliamentary diplomacy aimed at fostering unity and long-term stability.

Mustapha Hamid’s lawyers dismiss OSP’s asset seizure claims

0

Lawyers representing Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), have dismissed claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that assets valued at over GH₵100 million linked to their client have been seized.

In a statement issued by Hay & Partners at Law and signed by Hanifa Yahaya Esq., the legal team described the OSP’s assertions as “false, misleading, and damaging.”

They stressed that no properties or businesses belonging to or associated with Dr. Abdul-Hamid have been identified, traced, or confiscated by the OSP.

“Our client has no such assets, directly or indirectly, and no property valued at the amount mentioned exists in connection with him,” the statement clarified.

The lawyers further noted that the OSP’s amended charge sheet, filed on October 17, 2025—which outlines five counts of alleged offences—makes no mention of any seized assets or businesses linked to Dr. Abdul-Hamid.

They accused the OSP of engaging in “public theatrics and misinformation,” arguing that such conduct undermines the integrity of the prosecutorial body.

“As a public body created by law, the OSP is expected to act with fairness, integrity, and respect for the rights and dignity of all individuals. Misrepresenting facts before the court contradicts these obligations,” the statement read.

The legal team added that Dr. Abdul-Hamid has fully cooperated with the OSP throughout the investigation, attending all hearings and honouring every invitation.

They maintained that he has shown and reminded the public that he remains innocent until proven guilty under the 1992 Constitution.

“It is unfortunate that instead of adhering to due process, the OSP has chosen media sensationalism,” the lawyers added, warning that spreading misinformation or prejudicing public opinion erodes trust in Ghana’s justice system.

NEIP lost its focus and became MASLOC – Former Director admonishes new NEIP Management.

Joseph Osei Oppong Brenya , former director of corporate affairs at the National Entrepreneurship Innovations Programme (NEIP), has cautioned the new administration against repeating the mistakes of the previous NPP government.

He specifically highlighted the ineffectiveness of providing small stipends to entrepreneurs, citing that amounts like GHC 10,000 to GHC 20,000 are insufficient for establishing or investing in the businesses of entrepreneurs

Oppong Brenya suggested that the new administration should instead focus on investing in a smaller number of entrepreneurs with more substantial funding, such as GHC 200,000 to GHC 500,000, to enable them to establish viable businesses that can create employment opportunities for others.
The practice whereby huge numbers are selected and paraded to show working must be avoided.

Mr. Oppong Brenya who was speaking on the theme; Youth Entrepreneurship, the role of the Government”
Organised by the Entrepreneurs and Innovators Network Ghana, emphasized that small grants are often misused and wasted, and that entrepreneurs seeking such amounts should be directed to institutions like Microfinance and Small Loans Centre(MASLOC), which provides microloans for petty traders and small-scale businesses.

The former director also expressed concern that NEIP lost focus and was duplicating efforts similar to MASLOC. He urged the new administration, particularly the Chief Executive Officer of NEIP, Eric Adjei and the leadership of NEIP, to adopt a more impactful approach by selecting and investing in a few promising entrepreneurs rather than spreading resources thinly.

This approach, he argued, would help the program achieve its mandate of establishing and supporting successful entrepreneurs.

The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) is a flagship initiative of the Government of Ghana designed to support and nurture entrepreneurship and innovation across the country. NEIP focuses on providing business development services, funding, training, and mentorship to startups and small businesses to drive economic growth and job creation

Poor decisions under Akufo-Addo cost Ghana $190m MCC funding – Energy Ministry

0

The Ministry of Energy has attributed Ghana’s loss of $190 million in Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) funding to what it calls poor decisions taken under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the failed Power Distribution Services (PDS) concession arrangement.

The Ministry’s comments follow a ruling by an international arbitration tribunal in London, which dismissed all claims filed by PDS against the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The decision brings to an end a three-year legal battle over the controversial termination of the concession agreement.

Reacting to the ruling in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Richmond Rockson, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy, said the controversy surrounding PDS could have been avoided if proper due diligence and transparent decision-making had guided the selection of the concessionaire.

“The government has taken note of the tribunal’s decision in the PDS–ECG arbitration. This situation should never have arisen in the first place,” Mr. Rockson stated.

“The poor decisions made during the selection of the concessionaire, which led to the formation of Power Distribution Services (PDS) under the Akufo-Addo administration, brought us here,” he added.

According to Mr. Rockson, the mismanagement of the PDS concession not only cost Ghana $190 million in compact funding from the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation in 2019 but also denied the country a critical opportunity to reform and strengthen the operations of the ECG.

He further assured that the government would take the necessary steps to recover any funds owed to the state following the tribunal’s ruling.

“The government assures the public that all necessary steps will be taken to recover every amount due to ECG and the Government of Ghana,” he said.

The PDS concession, signed in 2019, was meant to improve efficiency and financial sustainability in Ghana’s power distribution sector. However, it was terminated months later after government investigations uncovered alleged irregularities in the company’s financial guarantees.

Fake Gold Agent Defrauds Ghanaian-American Investor of $83,000

0

A suspected fraud syndicate operating under the name Jay & Sons Enterprise has allegedly defrauded a Ghanaian-American businessman of $83,000 in a fake gold transaction in Accra.

The group, believed to operate from Dzorwulu, Nii Noi Street, near Yaakks Lodge, reportedly posed as accredited agents of the Ghana Gold Board, luring investors with forged documents and fake identification cards.

A police source told The Ghanaian Times that investigations revealed the syndicate, led by Mohammed Ali, a fair-complexioned Burkinabe national who has since been arrested, presented himself as an official partner of the President’s newly established Ghana Gold Board.

The businessman was persuaded to pay various sums under the guise of customs duties, export levies, Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) taxes, and Gold Board certification fees.

According to the source, the Ghanaian-American investor transferred $83,000 to the group for gold purchase and processing but received no gold in return.

“After collecting the funds, the suspects went into hiding,” the source disclosed.

The Nima Divisional Command confirmed that investigations were underway to trace other members of the syndicate from their hideout and bring them to justice. Other members of the network, known by the aliases ‘Pepsi,’ ‘Dollar,’ and ‘Ben,’ are currently on the run.

The Ghana Gold Board has denied authorising any private individual or company to operate on its behalf, urging the public to verify credentials directly with the institution before engaging in any gold-related transactions.

Meanwhile, the Police have cautioned businesspeople to remain vigilant and report any suspicious dealings involving purported Gold Board representatives to the nearest police station.

Abronye descends on Dr Richard Anane over remarks about disrespecting former President Kufuor

0

Dr Richard Anane (L) and Kwame Baffoe Abronye (R) Dr Richard Anane (L) and Kwame Baffoe Abronye (R)

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, popularly known as Abronye DC, has descended heavily on Dr Richard Anane, a leading member of the party, over comments the latter made about him.

Dr Anane, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nhyiaeso and Minister of Health, had accused Abronye in a recent interview of disrespecting former President John Agyekum Kufuor during a meeting involving NPP executives.

According to Dr Anane, Abronye allegedly challenged or disrespected a submission made by former President Kufuor at the said meeting, prompting the NPP executives present to intervene and apologize to the statesman.

Dr Anane also questioned Abronye’s longevity and contributions to the party, suggesting that he lacked the impetus to make such “unwarranted” attacks on senior members and party elders.

In response to Dr Anane’s comments, Abronye launched a rebuttal, accusing the former Health Minister of corruption and incompetence during his time in public office.

According to Abronye, Dr Anane is not part of the NPP’s National Council because he lacks the requisite knowledge and credibility to serve at that level.

“Dr Richard Anane is not a member of the Executive Council or the National Council because those are places where only knowledgeable people meet and he doesn’t qualify to be there,” Abronye stated.

He further accused Dr Anane of corruption during his days as a medical doctor and alleged that the former minister stole from the state during his tenure in government.

“Apart from becoming a minister and making more money than I have, he doesn’t have anything I don’t have. He hasn’t gone to school more than me, the only thing he did was to steal from the state when he was a minister,” Abronye alleged.

He added that Dr Anane’s claim of having served longer in the NPP should be a matter for debate between the two of them.

“So, for his claim that he has been in the party longer than I have that should be debated between the two of us,” Abronye said.

KNUST dominates 28th GUSA Cross Country and 2nd Minor Games hosted by UESD

0

The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) successfully hosted the 28th Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Cross Country and the second Minor Games from October 27 to November 1, 2025.

The event, held under the theme, “Harnessing the Lesser-Known Sports: The Key to Developing the 21st Century Sportsman,” brought together 16 public universities from across the country for an exciting showcase of athletic talent and camaraderie.

Delivering the welcome address at the opening ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of UESD, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, warmly received the athletes, officials, and guests. He said hosting the event was an indication of UESD’s growing contribution to the national higher education and sports development agenda.

The President of GUSA, Mr. Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, who is also the Director of Sports at UDS, thanked the Management of UESD and urged participants to abide by the rules of the games and compete in unity. The week-long competition featured traditional and emerging sports disciplines, including Ampe, Chess, 10km Cross Country, 10km Cross Country Mixed Relay, Scrabble, and Tug of War. The games provided a platform for Ghanaian university athletes to compete, collaborate, and demonstrate excellence beyond the country’s dominant sports, such as football and athletics.

KNUST Emerges Overall Champion

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) emerged as the overall winner, sweeping gold medals across multiple disciplines, including Chess, Scrabble, and Tug of War. Their dominance underscored the university’s sustained commitment to nurturing holistic student-athletes.

In a thrilling display of endurance and teamwork, the 10km Cross Country Mixed Relay event saw the KNUST clinch the top spot after a commanding performance from start to finish. The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) followed closely in second place, showcasing remarkable determination and coordination. At the same time, the University for Development Studies (UDS) secured third position with an impressive effort that earned applause from spectators.

In the Ampe competition, the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) claimed gold. At the same time, the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) took silver, and host institution UESD proudly secured bronze.

KNUST triumphed in both the men’s and women’s Chess events, with the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) claiming silver in their respective categories. The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) each picked up bronze medals.

The Tug of War competition saw KNUST clinch gold, the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) take silver, and the University for Development Studies (UDS) grab bronze. In Scrabble, KNUST once again led the charge, winning both the men’s and women’s events.

UESD and GCTU won silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s category, while UCC and GIMPA followed behind KNUST in the women’s division. The events, which tested both stamina and strategic pacing, highlighted the growing competitiveness among Ghana’s tertiary institutions in athletics.

UESD’s Growing Reputation as a Young Host Institution

Hosting the games marked a significant milestone for UESD, one of Ghana’s youngest public universities. Speaking at the closing ceremony, GUSA President Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko praised the host institution for its exceptional organization and enthusiasm.

“We want the young universities to grow. UESD is just five years old, and in that short time, look at the mileage they’ve achieved. Hosting GUSA is no small feat, and they have managed everything to everyone’s satisfaction,” he said. Mr. Tanko also highlighted the broader importance of the GUSA Games in nurturing national sporting talent.

“Most of Ghana’s national athletes are products of the GUSA Games. We want sponsors to take note that GUSA is a breeding ground for excellence. When UDS won the World University Cup, it showed that Ghanaian universities can compete on the global stage,” he added.

A Platform for Exposure and Development

Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Kwame Poku, reflected on the challenges and rewards of hosting the event. “Our facilities are not yet adequate to host the big GUSA Games, so we decided to start with the Mini GUSA for exposure. Many participants didn’t know about our university before this event, and they were impressed by what they saw,” he explained.

“This event has given UESD immense visibility and will help attract more students, donors, and partnerships.” Mr. Poku extended gratitude to UESD management, staff, and the GUSA executive for their support in making the games a success.

Government Support and Encouragement

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, visited the games as part of her official tour of the University. Accompanied by the Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive, Francis Addo Akumatey, she commended the athletes for their spirit of sportsmanship and urged them to continue balancing academic pursuits with athletic excellence.

The Future of Lesser-Known Sports

The 28th GUSA Cross Country and Minor Games underscored the growing importance of alternative sports in Ghana’s tertiary institutions. By investing in lesser-known disciplines, GUSA and its member universities aim to build a new generation of versatile athletes equipped for both national and international competitions.

As the dust settles in Somanya, one message resonates clearly — Ghana’s universities are not just nurturing future professionals in classrooms, but also shaping the next generation of world-class athletes.

They Know Something About Lumba’s Death? Roman Fadda Shock Ghanaian, Odo Broni Is In Trouble

0

Accra, Ghana – Social media has been buzzing after entertainment pundit and radio personality Roman Fadda made comments that many interpreted as questioning the well-being of legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba. The statement, made during a live TikTok discussion, quickly went viral and left thousands of fans alarmed before the rumor was clarified.

According to clips circulating online, Roman Fadda suggested that “some people close to Lumba know more than they are saying,” sparking a wave of speculation about the singer’s health and whereabouts. Within minutes, “Lumba” trended on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook as fans demanded official confirmation of his condition.

Music lovers flooded the comments section expressing shock and disbelief. Some accused Roman Fadda of spreading unnecessary panic, while others urged Daddy Lumba’s management to address the issue immediately.

A few hours later, a source close to the musician confirmed that Daddy Lumba is alive and in good health, currently working on new projects and rehearsing for upcoming performances. The source described the online chatter as “baseless and exaggerated.”

The misunderstanding also dragged social-media influencer Odo Broni into the spotlight after she was mentioned in connection with earlier online controversies involving Lumba’s associates. Critics now say her recent posts added fuel to the confusion, while others defended her, insisting she had no role in the rumor’s spread.

Roman Fadda later took to his own page to clarify that his words had been “taken out of context,” explaining that he was referring to private issues within the entertainment industry, not to the artiste’s death. “I never said Daddy Lumba is dead,” he posted. “People need to watch the full video before drawing conclusions.”

Media analysts have used the incident to call for more responsible use of social media by influencers and presenters, noting how easily misinformation can go viral and cause unnecessary distress to the public.

As of this report, Daddy Lumba’s management team has not announced any legal action but has urged fans to remain calm and ignore unfounded rumors.

The episode once again highlights the dangers of online speculation in Ghana’s fast-growing digital entertainment space, where one misinterpreted comment can ignite nationwide panic within minutes.

NPP Sends Cautious Message to Former CJ Torkornoo

News Hub Creator13h

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has conveyed a measured yet pointed message to former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo amid ongoing debates about her removal from office. The message comes as the nation watches the unfolding situation with concern for judicial independence.

In a recent television interview, NPP stalwart Matthew Opoku Prempeh expressed deep misgivings about the process that led to Justice Torkornoo’s suspension. He described the matter as “sad, disappointing, and dangerous for Ghana’s democracy,” stressing that removing a Chief Justice under such circumstances would “erode the security of tenure for Supreme Court judges.”

The NPP’s communiqué, while not directly aggressive, appears designed to caution both the executive arm and the judicial system about the implications of the case. It underscores the party’s concern over precedent, emphasising that no one should be above the rule of law, and that removal processes must reflect transparency and fairness.

Observers note the tone as part support for Torkornoo, part warning to stakeholders: the NPP is signalling that any perceived politicisation of judicial processes could have ramifications for the party’s support among voters who value good governance.

Cedi still selling at GH¢10.92 to $1

Ghana’s cedi showed signs of marginal stability on the interbank market on Thursday, November 6, 2025, maintaining its value at GH¢10.92 to the US dollar, the same rate recorded at the end of October.

While the rate’s consistency suggests temporary calm, some business analysts caution that the currency’s inability to appreciate reflects underlying pressure from major foreign currencies.

They warn that without a meaningful rebound, the cedi remains vulnerable to external shocks and fiscal headwinds as the year draws to a close.

With the impending 2026 national budget presentation, market watchers are closely monitoring how the government’s fiscal measures will influence the cedi’s outlook, particularly in relation to the US dollar.

Here’s how the cedi is faring on the Bank of Ghana interbank market:

Paul Adom-Otchere describes Akufo-Addo as the “most impactful politician” of Ghana’s Fourth Republic

0

Broadcast Journalist and political commentator, Paul Adom-Otchere, has described former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the “most impactful politician” of Ghana’s Fourth Republic, citing his lifelong contributions to democracy, press freedom, and political mobilisation.

Speaking in a one-on-one interview on the AM Show, Paul Adom-Otchere said that although President Akufo-Addo may have made mistakes during his tenure, his overall impact on Ghana’s political evolution remains unmatched.

“He may have made some mistakes, but after you look at it, I call him the most impactful politician of the Fourth Republic,” he said.

“He was the politician who gave the biggest mobilisation, fought the most for press freedom, and defended parliamentary processes at critical moments in our democratic history.”

Paul Adom-Otchere pointed to Akufo-Addo’s early political career and advocacy for constitutionalism, including his opposition to attempts to alter the 1992 Constitution during his time as Chair of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee.

He also credited him with playing a major role in shaping Ghana’s multiparty democracy and media landscape.

According to him, Akufo-Addo’s 2016 electoral victory — which saw him defeat then-President John Mahama by the largest margin in Ghana’s Fourth Republic — cemented his place in political history.

“He still holds the record of having won the largest margin as an opposition candidate coming into the ballot,” Mr. Adom-Otchere noted, adding that the former President’s legacy will be remembered for both his political resilience and his contribution to democratic freedoms.

Ahafo Minister launches free NHIS registration for needy residents in Asutifi North

0

The Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, has launched a free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration exercise for underprivileged residents in the Asutifi North District to improve access to healthcare services.

Speaking to Adom News during a monitoring visit to Ntotroso, where she was accompanied by the District Chief Executive, the Minister said the initiative seeks to register about 10,000 people as active NHIS members under the MahamaCares programme.

According to her, the exercise targets individuals who have never been enrolled on the scheme as well as those whose cards have become inactive due to financial challenges.

She emphasized that the registration drive will cover all communities within the district.

“We want everyone, regardless of financial status, to have access to quality healthcare. This initiative will make that possible,” said Charity Gardiner, Ahafo Regional Minister.

The District Chief Executive, Hafiz Dauda, and the Asutifi District NHIS Manager, Joseph Sarkodie, commended the Minister’s initiative and encouraged residents to take advantage of the free registration.

They confirmed that the exercise will be extended to all 68 communities in the district, with a target of enrolling 10,000 new members by the end of 2025.

“This is a commendable effort to ensure no one is left out of healthcare coverage,” Hafiz Dauda and Joseph Sarkodie stated.

Ten Ghanaian university students have benefited from the 2025 edition of Huawei’s flagship global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, “Seeds for the Future,” in China.

This year’s program, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, brought together students from the University of Professional Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ho Technical University, Ghana Communications Technology University, Data Link Institute of Business and Technology and Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development.

The program, held in Dongguan and Shenzhen from October 20-26, 2025, brought together over 150 students from across the globe to experience advanced technologies and equip them with hands-on training in 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and Smart City technologies.

During the program, students had the opportunity to tour smart photovoltaic sites, explore Huawei’s Sanyapo and Xicun campuses in Dongguan, and visit the company’s state-of-the-art labs and exhibition halls.

They also visited other technology companies in Shenzhen to explore drone and gaming technologies and gain first-hand experience of the country’s evolving digital ecosystem.

In addition to the corporate tours, the students visited the Shenzhen Museum to explore China’s rich culture and participated in a Global Village project where students from 10 countries, including Ghana, showcased their diverse cultures.

The event fostered global friendships and cultural understanding, aligning with Huawei’s mission to build bridges across nations through technology and collaboration.

Through the “Seeds for the Future” program, the students gained technical knowledge and a global perspective on innovation, cultural diversity, and sustainable development.

Since its inception in Ghana in 2015, the Huawei “Seeds for the Future” program has benefited more than 300 students from various tertiary institutions nationwide.

The program aims to bridge the gap between industry and academia while fostering global collaboration in science and technology.

It seeks to reinforce beneficiaries’ determination to contribute to the growing ICT ecosystem and to inspire other young talents to pursue careers in the sector.

Ashawo Man And Odo Broni Expose Daddy Lumba’s Billionaire Friend Over Alleged Scandal

News Hub Creator9h

Social media has been buzzing after two popular online personalities, Ashawo Man and Odo Broni, made shocking claims involving a close associate of legendary musician Daddy Lumba.

According to a viral video making rounds online, the pair alleged that one of Lumba’s billionaire friends had attempted to make inappropriate advances toward Odo Broni. The incident has since stirred widespread debate, with many questioning the motives behind the alleged approach and the reasons for bringing the matter to the public.

In the live broadcast, Ashawo Man claimed that the businessman, known for his close ties with several top entertainers, had promised luxury gifts and money in exchange for companionship. Odo Broni supported the claims, saying she decided to speak out to expose individuals who exploit their influence for personal gain.

Fans of Daddy Lumba have been quick to distance the musician from the controversy, noting that the allegations target his friend and not the artist himself. The businessman in question has not yet issued an official response to the viral accusations.

Observers say the issue once again highlights the growing culture of online exposés involving public figures in Ghana’s entertainment industry, where private matters often become public scandals.

Dear Comrades, Stop Asking President to Appoint Me, God Will Prevail at Right Time — Chief Biney

0

Former Deputy National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Nixon Biney, has advised his supporters to stop lobbying on his behalf for a government appointment. He made this appeal in a Facebook post on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, urging his followers to allow God’s will to prevail rather than exerting pressure on political leaders through social media campaigns.

In his post, Chief Biney wrote, “Dear Comrades, respectfully stop tagging the President and others for me to be appointed. There’s no need. At the right time, God will prevail.” His message appears to be a response to ongoing efforts by some of his supporters, who have been tagging President Mahama and other government officials online, calling for him to be given a position in the current administration.

The public appeal follows growing frustration among a section of NDC loyalists who believe Chief Biney has served the party with dedication and deserves formal recognition for his contributions. Many within the party argue that his consistent commitment, especially during challenging political periods, should earn him a place in government.

Nonetheless, Chief Biney’s remarks have generated widespread discussion on social media, with some observers interpreting them as an act of humility, while others suspect an element of subtle political messaging. Critics suggest that although he is publicly discouraging lobbying, his statement could be a strategic way of reminding the leadership of his availability for service.

Chief Biney has not addressed these interpretations directly, maintaining a calm and respectful tone in his communication. His post, however, has drawn praise from supporters who admire his faith and patience, viewing it as a sign of maturity and deep loyalty to the NDC’s ideals.

The family of the late Joana Yabani has called for the swift legal proceedings after her death The family of the late Joana Yabani has called for the swift legal proceedings after her death

The family of the late Joana Yabani, a final-year Biological Science student at KNUST who was allegedly murdered on campus, has called for the swift continuation of legal proceedings following her death.

In a video shared on X on November 5, 2025, the sisters of the late Joana appealed to the Attorney General, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and other relevant authorities to ensure that those involved in her death are brought to justice.

They explained that it has been eight months since their sister’s sudden demise, yet despite their constant appearances in court, justice has not been served.

KNUST Student Murder: Police retrieve laptop, phones of deceased hidden behind hostel

“We have attended several court hearings after the initial appearance, but constant adjournments have characterised this process. This raises serious concerns. What exactly is happening with our judicial system regarding this case?

“Is there not sufficient evidence to secure a conviction for the accused, Daniel Tuffuor, after nearly a year? A swift resolution is imperative, as justice delayed is justice denied,” she said.

The family also noted that the late Joana Yabani would have celebrated her 22nd birthday on November 5, 2025. They appealed to the IGP and the judges handling her case to ensure that her death does not go in vain.

“Today, November 5, 2025, is supposed to be Joana’s 22nd birthday. Instead of celebrating the future that was stolen, we are mourning our innocent sister.

“We are sending this video as an appeal to the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General, the judges handling my sister’s case and all concerned authorities. Cases of this nature, the shedding of innocent blood and the cutting short of a bright future, must be treated with the utmost urgency.”

Background

The case involves 21-year-old final-year student Joana Yabani and Daniel Tuffuor, who stands accused of murdering his girlfriend. The case was last adjourned to September 15, 2025.

Police investigations revealed that the deceased and the suspect were in a romantic relationship.

Tuffuor was arrested on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after Joana’s lifeless body was discovered on campus earlier that morning. The university’s security service, upon being alerted to the incident, promptly reported it to the police.

CCTV footage reportedly captured a man, believed to be Tuffuor, strangling Joana to death following an altercation.

Kumasi, Ghana – Police in the Ashanti Region have launched investigations into an alleged road accident said to have involved a vehicle reportedly belonging to the convoy of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred late Tuesday evening along a busy stretch near Asafo, Kumasi, where a young girl was reportedly struck and fatally injured by a speeding vehicle believed to be part of the convoy.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the vehicle in question was directly attached to the Vice President’s official escort. The Vice President’s Office has also not issued a formal statement as of press time.

Eyewitnesses told local reporters that a black V8 vehicle moving at high speed hit the girl as she attempted to cross the road. Regional police authorities have appealed to the public for calm and urged eyewitnesses to cooperate with investigators by providing accurate information to help clarify the incident.

The tragic development has sparked mixed reactions across social media, with some users calling for transparency and others warning against politicizing the issue until verified details are made public.

Members of Parliament from both the Majority and Minority sides have sparked discussions online after they were seen shifting blame onto each other following the government’s latest crackdown on illegal mining.

During proceedings on November 5, 2025, the MP for Madina Constituency, Francis-Xavier Sosu, speaking on the floor of parliament, recommended the government for the steps taken so far to combat illegal mining.

According to him, although the government is doing its best, more can still be done.

“I want to commend the government for the effort made so far, even though I believe more must be done to bring this under control. For instance, the introduction of the Blue Water Guard is a critical intervention,” he said.

After his statement, the MP for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah, accused the opposition NDC of hypocrisy and propaganda in the fight against illegal mining.

“We had hope, Ghanaians had faith, and they believed in our brothers in opposition, thinking that within the shortest possible time, galamsey would be a thing of the past. But what do we see today? It is even aggravating.

I will never blame the NDC government. I want to be a good citizen. I’m asking them first to apologise to us and to Ghanaians for lying to us, for the deception, the propaganda, and the lies they told Ghanaians.”

Another NDC MP was also seen blaming the Akufo-Addo administration for fueling illegal mining despite the president’s promise to put his presidency on the line to fight galamsey.

Each year, his fans eagerly anticipate his reflective New Year songs, dissecting every line as poetry. To many, Kinaata’s success is not just personal, it’s cultural. His dominance as a Fante artist has made him a beacon for the Central Region, with fans defending him as both a musician and cultural custodian.

5.Wendy Shay

Wendy Shay’s Shay Gang is built on solidarity and defiance. When critics questioned her talent or compared her unfairly to predecessors, her fans fought back.

This protective energy comes largely from young women who see her as a symbol of empowerment in a male-dominated industry. Through her openness and constant online engagement, Wendy Shay has turned her fans into allies who see her victories as theirs.

“They didn’t believe in me, but I believed in myself,” she often reminds them—a message that strengthens the bond between star and supporters.

6.Fancy Gadam

Through frequent releases and a personable social media presence, Eugene keeps his fans constantly engaged. His youthful base identifies with his rise, seeing in him proof that talent and discipline still matter in the music business.

8.Black Sherif

Black Sherif, affectionately called Blacko, leads perhaps the most emotionally connected fan base of modern Ghanaian music. His Blacko Tribe emerged during the streaming era, where his raw authenticity resonated deeply with Gen Z listeners.

11.King Promise

King Promise’s Promise Land fan base thrives on emotional connection. His romantic anthems and smooth delivery have earned him a loyal following that spans genders and borders.

His concerts, especially the Promise Land Festival, are celebrations of love, style, and good energy. Fans appreciate his consistency, calm personality, and effortless charm, qualities that inspire quiet but enduring devotion.

12.Efya

Efya’s supporters are a class apart, mature, musically literate, and unwavering in their admiration for her vocal prowess. Her fans don’t need a name; their loyalty is measured in longevity.

From her early days as one-half of Irene and Jane to her solo acclaim, Efya’s consistent excellence has earned respect across generations. Her concerts are gatherings of true music lovers, audiences who appreciate artistry over hype.

13.R2Bees

R2Bees’ legacy is defined by endurance. For nearly two decades, their fans have stood by them, forming one of Ghana’s most stable fan communities. Their music, grounded in everyday Ghanaian life, resonates deeply, especially with those who grew up in their era.

The duo’s refusal to chase trends has strengthened this bond. Their fans, much like the artists themselves, value authenticity and longevity over fleeting fame.

Fan loyalty has reshaped Ghana’s music economy. Devoted supporters guarantee packed shows, fuel merchandise sales, and sway awards through voting power. In many ways, fan bases have democratised success, allowing artists to thrive independently of mainstream industry structures.

Yet, this devotion has a double edge. The tribal nature of fan rivalries, especially online, sometimes overshadows healthy music appreciation. The challenge for the next generation of artists will be channelling this passion positively, using it to build culture rather than conflict.

Behind every great Ghanaian artist stands an army of believers. These fan communities are not just spectators—they’re collaborators, defenders, and custodians of legacies. In a music industry that changes by the season, loyalty remains the most powerful rhythm of all.

The NAIMOS-Hwidzem galamsey battle has taken an unexpected turn as anti-illegal mining campaigner and esteemed writer Erastus Asare Donkor has uncovered disturbing details regarding the involvement of the Member of Parliament, Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo.

Erastus asserts that the lawmaker did not only “pass by” the site as was previously stated; rather, he showed up with approximately twenty men and spent hours at the illicit mining site, refusing to comply with the actions of the NAIMOS task group.

Honourable Ebenezer Addo spent hours, not minutes, at the spot, as revealed by Erastus Asare Donkor in an interview; he arrived with approximately twenty men. “It was not an accident—what transpired was planned, purposeful, and terrifying.”

Field police were allegedly impeded during an anti-galamsey operation at Hwidzem, where the MP’s team and NAIMOS operatives violently clashed. The disclosure has heightened emotions around the ongoing probe into this incident.

The presence of the MP, according to sources close to the task force, encouraged the local miners to reject the team’s orders, leading to a tense confrontation that almost resulted in bloodshed.

On the other hand, the lawmaker has vehemently denied any misconduct, stating that his sole intention was to “intervene peacefully” in response to constituent complaints.

Erastus Asare Donkor, on the other hand, presents a totally different image, accusing political meddling, intimidation, and power abuse as the causes that have hampered the country’s efforts to combat unlawful galamsey mining. Critics see this as a further challenge to the government’s dedication to the rule of law and the autonomy of the anti-galamsey task force, and they are calling for an extensive probe of the MP’s actions.

A defiant activist stated, “We have no fight left” if politicians can bring armed supporters onto illicit mining sites and impede national operations. Despite the lack of an official statement from the NAIMOS secretariat, rumours have it that the Attorney General’s office has been informed and could call in important witnesses, such as Erastus Asare Donkor, whose reportage from the scene has stoked popular anger again.

The Hwidzem conflict is clearly becoming more than a regional issue as the topic continues to heat up. All eyes are on it now, as a symbol of the political corruption that is threatening Ghana’s fight against galamsey. The people are waiting to see if justice will win out in the end.

Ghana Reference Rate inches up to 17.93% for November

0

The Ghana Reference Rate (GRR), the benchmark used by commercial banks to determine lending rates has recorded a slight increase for November 2025.

Fresh data from the Ghana Association of Banks shows the GRR rose marginally from 17.86% in October to 17.93% in November, influenced by small movements in key market indicators.

Treasury bill rates increased from 10.50% to 10.67%, while interbank lending rates rose from 20.93% to 21%.

This comes after a sharp 2% decline in October, when the GRR fell from 19.86% in September, extending the easing trend seen through most of the year.

The rate, which began 2025 at 29.72%, has gradually declined to its current level, reflecting broader improvements in inflation and monetary conditions.

Industry analysts say the slight uptick in November reflects recent pressures in the money market, even as the overall rate environment remains significantly lower than at the start of the year.

They attribute October’s decline to reductions in inflation, falling Treasury bill yields, and the Bank of Ghana’s aggressive monetary easing, which has seen the policy rate cut by more than 600 basis points to 21.5%.

The marginal rise in the GRR is expected to influence banks’ lending rates for the month.
Commercial banks may adjust loan pricing slightly upward, especially for customers on variable-rate facilities.

Borrowers with fixed-rate loans will not be affected by the adjustment, but those with variable-rate agreements may experience a small increase in repayments.

The development comes at a time when businesses continue to face tight credit conditions amid a liquidity squeeze, despite the Bank of Ghana’s efforts to stabilise inflation and the broader economy.

According to the latest Monetary Policy Report, average lending rates have declined from 26.6% to 24.2%, reflecting an overall loosening trend. Yields on money market instruments have also eased, with the 91-day Treasury bill rate dropping from 13.4% in July to 10.3% in August.

Introduced in 2017, the GRR replaced the old base rate model to offer a more transparent benchmark for pricing loans.

The maiden rate, set in April 2017, was 16.82%.

Since then, it has served as a key tool in guiding interest rate decisions across Ghana’s financial sector, helping ensure consistency in how banks price credit.

The November adjustment, although marginal, will be closely watched by businesses and consumers navigating Ghana’s gradually easing but still sensitive interest rate environment.

NSA to lift suspension on professional boxing

0

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has announced that it will lift the suspension of professional boxing in Ghana on Thursday, November 6, 2025.

Back in September 2025, the NSA suspended all boxing activities  following the death of young boxer Ernest Akushey, often known as “Bahubali”.

According to a recent NSA statement, their decision to lift the ban follows successful consultations between the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and the Interim Management Committee (IMC) responsible for boxing’s normalisation process.

The IMC has reported significant advancements in addressing the issues that prompted the suspension, particularly in enhancing medical and safety protocols alongside improvements in governance and administrative frameworks.

“The NSA commends the IMC, athletes, boxing stakeholders, and the entire sporting community for their patience, diligence, and cooperation during this period of reform.

“The Authority looks forward to a vibrant return of professional boxing and also encourages local as well as foreign promoters and investors to bring international bouts and collaborations to Ghana under these enhanced standards.

“In the coming days and weeks, there will be education and regular engagements to roll out new exciting partnerships aimed at uplifting the general well-being of Ghanaian boxers and the sports brand,” the statement said.

Some of the key implementation measures include the publication of medical and safety manuals, the establishment of a functional interim medical commission, the creation of a centralised medical database, the approval of an insurance framework, and a commitment to sustainable medical support systems.

The NSA further affirmed its dedication to working alongside partners to ensure a professional and sustainable future for boxing in Ghana, thus restoring confidence in the sport while prioritising athlete welfare and institutional integrity.

Have you been where Kufuor has been? – Dr Anane blasts Abronye over disrespect to the former president

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor (L) Kwame Baffoe Abronye (R) Former President John Agyekum Kufuor (L) Kwame Baffoe Abronye (R)

Dr Richard Winfred Anane, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has alleged that the Bono Regional Chairman of the party, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, popularly known as Abronye DC, disrespected former President John Agyekum Kufuor during a recent meeting with party executives.

Speaking in an interview on Kasapa FM, which has since circulated on social media, Dr Anane expressed his disappointment over the incident, describing Abronye’s conduct as unbecoming of a party leader.

According to Dr Anane, the meeting, which took place about a week ago, was attended by senior party officials, including former President Kufuor.

During the discussions, Kufuor reportedly advised against the party’s “top-bottom approach,” arguing that such a strategy was not beneficial to the NPP’s unity and effectiveness.

“Normally, we don’t bring party matters outside, but I will say this, about a week ago, the party had a meeting and President Kufuor attended. He told them about the top-bottom approach, asserting that it is not a good idea.”

Abronye DC rearrested, granted GH¢1 million bail

He explained that the former President emphasised the need for unity among the various regional chairmen, noting that the party’s national chairman had not been very active for certain reasons.

Kufuor, he said, urged the leadership to foster collaboration among all chairpersons to strengthen the party’s structure.

However, Dr Anane alleged that Abronye DC reacted disrespectfully to the former President’s comments during the meeting.

“Do you know who reacted? The Bono Chairman, Abronye. Where was Abronye when we formed the party?”

“He said Kufuor had mentioned Paul Afoko’s name and that… what does he mean…the acting chairman had to apologize and several people present condemned Abronye’s utterances. Where the man has reached, has Abronye been there before?”

GRA targets eight million new taxpayers to boost domestic revenue

0

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is embarking on an ambitious plan to bring eight million new taxpayers into the national tax net as part of a major drive to widen the country’s revenue base and strengthen domestic mobilisation efforts.

The initiative aims to expand Ghana’s current taxpayer population estimated at 19 million through two flagship programmes: the Sustained Tax Education Programme and the Modified Taxation Scheme (MTS).

The GRA projects that successfully onboarding the additional taxpayers could yield up to GH¢40 billion in extra domestic revenue over the next few years.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, described the new measures as one of the Authority’s most significant revenue expansion strategies in recent times.

He emphasised that the reforms are designed to simplify tax compliance, particularly for informal sector operators, and ensure long-term fiscal stability.

“The Modified Tax Scheme has huge potential. Our analysis shows that if we are able to bring at least two million new taxpayers into the net each year, we can significantly increase domestic revenue and support national development,” Mr. Sarpong said.

He added that the informal sector estimated to include about eight million economically active individuals and businesses presents the largest opportunity for expanding the tax base.

Under the first phase of the rollout, the GRA plans to enrol two million new taxpayers annually over the next three years, before scaling up further in the second phase.

The Authority believes the combination of simplified tax processes, improved education, and digital tools will encourage voluntary compliance and reduce revenue leakages.

Mr. Sarpong noted that the expected revenue boost will be crucial for funding priority government programmes and reducing Ghana’s reliance on external borrowing.

The GRA has urged the public, private sector partners, and civil society groups to support the effort to modernise the tax system and build a more sustainable domestic revenue framework

Former Germany striker Gerald Asamoah has paid a courtesy visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Asamoah has been in Ghana in the past few days, where he was awarded by the German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, with the Federal Cross of Merit at an event in Accra.

Described as the ‘bridge builder’ between Ghana and Germany, the Ghana-born ex-footballer has championed a life-saving heart surgery programme for children in the African nation.

Asamoah funds the trip and work of German surgeons through the Gerald Asamoah Foundation every year to correct heart defects in young Ghanaians.

His visit to Otumfuo is reportedly part of his decision to extend the programme from Accra to Kumasi, where he will fund the travel of doctors to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for the annual activity.

Asamoah and his team were warmly welcomed by the King, who encouraged the former Schalke player to continue his worthy course.

Confusion In Ghana As Ajagurajah Finally Attacks Diana Asamoah, Reveals He Really Hates Her

0

Ghanaian social media has been set ablaze following a shocking confrontation between Prophet Kwabena Boakye Asiamah, popularly known as Ajagurajah, and gospel musician Evangelist Diana Asamoah. The controversial spiritual leader, known for his outspoken nature and unconventional beliefs, launched a fiery verbal attack on the gospel star, claiming he truly “hates her” and can no longer tolerate her behavior.

In a recent interview that has since gone viral online, Ajagurajah expressed his deep resentment toward Diana Asamoah, accusing her of hypocrisy and disrespecting traditional spirituality while portraying herself as holy. According to him, Diana Asamoah has consistently looked down on people who practice African traditional beliefs, branding them as evil, yet fails to live by the Christian values she preaches.

Ajagurajah did not mince words as he described her attitude as arrogant and judgmental, saying, “She thinks she’s better than everyone just because she sings gospel music. I don’t like her, and I’ve said it without shame. I really hate hypocrisy, and she represents that.”

This statement has sparked intense debate among Ghanaians, with social media divided over the prophet’s comments. While some believe Ajagurajah went too far by publicly declaring hatred toward a fellow believer, others supported his boldness, claiming that Diana Asamoah has often mocked and condemned people who do not share her faith views.

Diana Asamoah, known for her outspoken personality and strong Christian convictions, has yet to officially respond to Ajagurajah’s attack. However, close sources suggest that she is “unbothered” and focusing on her ministry work.

The rivalry between the two public figures has been ongoing for years, fueled by their differing spiritual ideologies—Ajagurajah representing the traditionalist and mystical side, while Diana Asamoah stands for staunch Pentecostal Christianity.

As the confrontation trends across social media platforms, fans of both camps continue to exchange heated arguments. Many observers fear that if not addressed, the growing animosity between the two could further deepen divisions within Ghana’s religious community.

Authorities from the Christian Council of Ghana and other religious groups have been urged to intervene and promote peace between the two influential personalities before matters escalate further.

NDC MP To Face 3 Years Jail, Ayɛdɛ As Hawa Wins Court Ruling — Full Details

0

A major political development has shaken Ghana’s political scene as an opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament is reportedly facing a three-year jail sentence following a court ruling that favored former Minister Hawa Koomson. The decision has sparked intense debate across the country, with supporters of both political figures expressing mixed reactions.

According to sources close to the case, the NDC MP was charged with misconduct and defamation after allegedly making false public claims against Hawa Koomson during a heated political dispute. The court, after reviewing evidence and testimonies, found the MP guilty of making unsubstantiated allegations that damaged the reputation of the former minister.

Delivering the judgment, the presiding judge stated that public figures must be held accountable for their words, emphasizing that spreading false information under the guise of politics cannot be tolerated. The MP was sentenced to three years imprisonment, though his legal team has already filed a notice of appeal, arguing that the ruling was politically motivated and that due process was not fully observed.

Following the ruling, Hawa Koomson expressed relief, stating that justice had finally been served after enduring months of public humiliation and character attacks. She also urged other politicians to engage in issue-based politics rather than resorting to personal attacks and defamation.

The ruling has triggered strong reactions from both the NDC and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). While members of the NPP have praised the verdict as a victory for truth and accountability, NDC supporters have condemned it, describing the sentence as an attempt to silence opposition voices ahead of the 2024 elections.

Legal experts believe the case could set a new precedent for how defamation and misconduct cases involving public officials are handled in Ghana. The NDC MP remains out on bail pending the outcome of the appeal, but the ruling has already become one of the most talked-about political developments of the year.
