‘Responsibilities can cause a man to be unromantic towards his wife’ – Prophet Opoku-Sarkodie

Prophet Nanasei Opoku-Sarkodie is the General Overseer of Potter's City Prophet Nanasei Opoku-Sarkodie is the General Overseer of Potter’s City

The General Overseer of Potter’s City, Prophet Nanasei Opoku-Sarkodie, has stated that the numerous responsibilities that come with marriage can influence a man to become unromantic towards his wife.

According to him, many married men become preoccupied with fulfilling their responsibilities at home, such as paying for their children’s school fees and covering daily financial expenses, which can weigh heavily on them.

As a result, some men may not have the time or energy to engage in romantic activities like kissing, hugging, or other gestures that their wives may desire.

Prophet Opoku-Sarkodie advised against choosing a partner based solely on physical appearance, stressing the importance of patience and mutual tolerance in sustaining a marriage.

“Responsibilities can cause your husband not to be romantic, but that doesn’t mean he’s not in love. He’s focused on paying bills and meeting other obligations. There are things I used to do that I no longer do consciously, like saying, ‘Oh, give me a kiss, give me a hug.’ There’s a time for everything under the sun. All this ‘I love you, honey, sugar’… it won’t always be permanent,” he explained to his congregation.

“A time will come when your husband might not have that time. Don’t say, ‘Now he doesn’t have time for me.’ Who should have time for whom? You came to help me; you should rather make time for me. If you don’t change your mindset, you may destroy what God is preparing for your future,” he warned.

Anas to release exposé on Kennedy Agyapong if elected NPP flagbearer

Kennedy Agyapong and Anas Aremeyaw Anas Kennedy Agyapong and Anas Aremeyaw Anas

Private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw claims that investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has a second exposé about former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong.

He noted that information gathered from credible sources indicates Anas has conducted another probe into the former MP but is yet to be released.

The outspoken legal practitioner hinted that the exposé will be released if Agyapong is elected as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer for the 2028 elections.

Speaking on Wontumi TV, Ampaw alleged that some National Democratic Congress (NDC) members are backing this move to derail the NPP’s chances of winning the 2028 elections and remain in government.

“NDC wishes Kennedy Agyapong was the NPP’s flagbearer so they can easily trample upon him. Even in the Anas case, they’re waiting for the party to choose Agyapong as leader so they can bring another exposé. I’m telling you, Anas has another exposé on Kennedy; I know what I’m talking about,” he said.

About Anas’ legal battle with Kennedy Agyapong

A US court ruled in favor of Anas, awarding him $18 million in damages after finding that Kennedy Agyapong defamed him.

The dispute originated from Agyapong’s remarks following Anas’s 2018 BBC investigation into football corruption in Ghana.

In 2021, Kennedy Agyapong accused Anas of being a “criminal” and falsely linked him to the murder of journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale, killed in 2019.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, an eight-member jury in Essex County Superior Court upheld an earlier verdict, holding Agyapong liable for defamation.

IMF raises concerns over U.S. tariff measures amid fragile global economic outlook

0

IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed significant concerns over newly introduced U.S. tariff measures, warning that they could jeopardise an already fragile global economic outlook.

This comes at a time when global economies are grappling with sluggish growth, post-pandemic recovery challenges, and increasing inflationary pressures.

In a statement issued Thursday April 3, 2025, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva highlighted that the institution is still evaluating the full macroeconomic impact of the tariffs, which were revealed by the U.S. government on Wednesday April 3, 2025.

Though the exact details of the tariffs remain under scrutiny, the IMF’s initial concerns stem from the potential for these measures to exacerbate global trade tensions, especially amidst ongoing challenges in international supply chains.

“It is important to avoid steps that could further harm the world economy,” Georgieva cautioned.

She emphasised the need for cooperation among nations to mitigate the effects of these new tariffs, urging both the United States and its trading partners to work toward a constructive resolution to the escalating trade disputes.

“We appeal to the United States and its trading partners to work constructively to resolve trade tensions and reduce uncertainty,” she added.

The IMF’s warning comes in the wake of rising global protectionism, which has already started to disrupt global supply chains.

The economic institution is particularly concerned about the impact of tariffs on inflation, trade volume, and emerging markets, which have yet to fully recover from the economic setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Georgieva further noted that the IMF’s comprehensive assessment of the tariffs’ impact will be presented in the upcoming World Economic Outlook, which is set to be released during the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings later this month.

This assessment is expected to offer deeper insights into the potential repercussions of the tariff measures and how they could affect global trade flows and economic recovery.

Meanwhile, economists are increasingly worried that such policies could stifle global growth, increase costs for consumers, and further strain international relations in the trade arena.

Member of Parliament for Assin South Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has strongly criticised President John Dramani Mahama following a wave of termination letters issued to senior officials at the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA).

His comments come in the wake of the termination of a Director of Finance at the Authority, as indicated in an official letter signed by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President. “After failing to create jobs for Ghanaians, President Mahama is personally terminating the appointments of technocrats who have been duly appointed by Public Services Commission several years ago in Ghana Maritme Authority.

Chic Outfits for Sunday Service

0

Sunday service is a time for reflection, community, and connection. It’s also an opportunity to dress in a way that is both respectful and stylish. The right outfit can set the tone for the day while maintaining an appropriate level of sophistication. Whether attending a traditional service or a more contemporary gathering, here are some chic outfit ideas that balance style, comfort, and reverence.

A classic dress is always a go-to choice for Sunday service. Opt for knee-length or midi dresses that have a refined silhouette and offer a modest yet fashionable look. Dresses with structured lines, such as A-line or sheath styles, provide elegance while being comfortable. Add a modern twist with subtle prints, soft florals, or pastel hues for a light and fresh appearance. Pair with a lightweight cardigan or blazer for extra polish, especially if the church environment tends to be cooler.

For a more versatile look, consider pairing a tailored skirt with a sophisticated blouse. A high-waisted pencil skirt or an A-line option offers both modesty and flattering lines. Pair it with a soft blouse in solid colors like white, beige, or light blue, or go for a blouse with subtle patterns like stripes or dots. Add a touch of refinement with delicate accessories like pearl earrings, a slim watch, or a leather handbag.

Jumpsuits are a great alternative to dresses and skirts. A well-fitted midi-length jumpsuit in a solid color or a subtle print can be just as chic and appropriate for Sunday service. Look for options with a cinched waist or structured bodice to maintain an elegant shape. Pair it with a cardigan or lightweight jacket, and complement the outfit with a pair of ballet flats or low heels for comfort.

For those who prefer pants over dresses, a sleek pantsuit offers a chic and sophisticated option. A tailored blazer paired with a matching pair of trousers creates a polished and modern look. Stick to neutral tones like navy, black, or soft grey, and pair with a silk blouse or knit top to add texture. Finish the look with classic accessories, such as a structured bag and low heels or flats.

Accessories can take your Sunday service look to the next level without overpowering it. A simple clutch, minimal jewelry, and a light scarf can all enhance your outfit. Keep your accessories understated, choosing pieces that are elegant yet not too flashy.

In conclusion, dressing for Sunday service is about finding the perfect balance between respect, style, and comfort. Whether you choose a classic dress, a tailored skirt, or a chic pantsuit, your outfit should reflect the grace and reverence of the occasion. Keep your look timeless, comfortable, and modest to make a lasting impression without compromising on style.

Jaguar Land Rover to pause shipments to US in April

0

British luxury car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced a temporary halt in shipments to the United States beginning in April, as it navigates the impact of new tariffs imposed by the administration of former President Donald Trump.

The company said it is taking “short-term actions” while evaluating how to adapt to the recently introduced trade measures targeting foreign auto exports.

“As we work to address the new trading terms with our business partners, we are taking some short-term actions, including a shipment pause in April, as we develop our mid- to longer-term plans,” JLR stated in an email response to the BBC.

The confirmation follows a report by The Times newspaper, which first revealed the carmaker’s plan to suspend exports.

The Trump administration’s 10% tariff, introduced earlier this month, is part of a broader set of reciprocal trade policies that have sparked concern among global auto manufacturers with significant US market exposure.

JLR has not yet indicated when shipments will resume or how the move might affect its operations in other regions.

Full privatisation of ECG not the way to go – Sagnarigu MP

0

The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Issah Attah, has expressed strong reservations regarding what he refers to as the complete privatisation of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

This comes in response to growing discussions about privatising ECG, with proponents arguing that such a move would lead to increased efficiency in the power distribution company.

The issue of privatisating ECG has been a recurring topic of debate in Ghana over the years.

Successive governments have grappled with the challenges facing ECG, particularly in terms of its operational inefficiencies, financial struggles, and the growing demand for a more reliable electricity supply.

While some believe that privatisation could inject new management practices and capital into the company, others, like Issah Attah, have voiced concerns about the long-term implications of such a move, especially considering the strategic importance of the electricity sector to the country’s development.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, Attah stated that while the privatisation of ECG has been discussed for decades, he does not believe it is the right course of action.

“The issue of the privatisation of the Electricity Company of Ghana is not a new phenomenon. It has been in our discourse over the decades and governments upon governments have tried to improve its efficiency but I have reservations with the full privatisation of the Electricity Company of Ghana.

“I don’t think that is the way forward. I think that we should be nationalistic in mind. We must confront the issue and the issue is that ECG is not profitable and people may argue that it is not a profit making entity but it must at least break even.”

Ablakwa congratulates Ayorkor Botchwey on assumption as commonwealth Secretary-General

0

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has extended his congratulations to Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey following her assumption of office as the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth on April 3.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, April 5, Ablakwa described the appointment as a proud moment for Ghana and the African continent.

He affirmed his trust in her, stating, “Being the first African woman to occupy this prestigious office, we know she will continue to make Ghana and Africa proud.”

His remarks come as Madam Botchwey officially assumed office as the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Nations, marking a historic moment for both Ghana and the African continent.

Her election to this prestigious role makes her the first African woman to lead the 56-member intergovernmental body, which is dedicated to fostering international cooperation, democracy, and development among member states.

Ayorkor Botchwey took over from Baroness Patricia Scotland, whose tenure ended in March 2025.

Before her appointment as Commonwealth Secretary-General, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey had a distinguished political and diplomatic career.

Don’t celebrate yet, declined T-bill yields artificial – IPPA to Finance Minister

0

The Institute of Public Policy and Accountability (IPPA) has urged the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson not to celebrate over the recent sharp fall in treasury bills, saying the decline in the interest rates is artificial.

In a statement, it said the lower treasury bill yields would have a rippling effect on the cedi as investors seek investments in high-yielding assets such as the dollar.

“The Institute of Public Policy and Accountability advise the finance minister not to rush to celebrate what we describe as not the true state of the interest rates regime despite seeking to score a political point. Ghana’s main fiscal problem is a lack of adequate revenue collection and borrowing for consumption.  We want to caution against excessive pressure on the Ghana cedi due to anticipated demand for the US dollar, thus reducing the gains achieved in bringing inflation down”.

“This assertion is supported by the Managing Director of Stanbic Bank and President of the Ghana Association of Banks, Kwamina Asomaning, who notes that the drop in the T-bill rates is a good move and should be encouraged by players in the banking industry, however, the development has brought some sudden pressure on the cedi as investors consider the American greenback as a safe haven to get returns on their investments”, the institute explained.

As a public policy organisation, it said a sustained fiscal discipline is crucial to ensuring that lower borrowing costs translate into economic expansion rather than excessive government spending and artificial reduction in yields.

Again, it mentioned that foreign exchange stability is a key factor in assessing the sustainability of lower domestic yields, adding, “However, we do not think so as the local currency is far from achieving a relative stability compared to the periods of 2018 and 2019. Historically, the sharp declines in interest rates have raised concerns about capital flight and exchange rate pressures”.

The institute urged the finance minister to work closely with the Bank of Ghana to gradually improve the interest rate environment.

“He should always factor in the downside risks when pursuing a policy. We want the reduction in the T-bill rates to correspond with a sharp decline in lending rates. This will significantly ease the cost of doing business. Therefore, we want to see a fiscal policy that drives revenue mobilisation but is also business-friendly”, it continued.

Since January 2025, T-bill yields have fallen by more than 10%, but lending rates have remained high.

However, in the last two auctions, demand for the short-term instruments has waned because of the lower yields as investors seek other options to generate adequate return.

Sabrina Elba partners World Vision to champion ethical sourcing and sustainability in Northern Ghana

0

Sabrina Dhowre Elba, actress, entrepreneur, and Goodwill Ambassador for the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), has championed ethical sourcing and women’s empowerment in the Shea industry following her recent visit to Northern Ghana.

This is on the back of her partnership with World Vision International, where she visited several women-led shea butter processing groups in the Northern Region to learn firsthand about sustainable practices and the challenges these communities face.

The visit is part of a broader initiative with S’ABLE Labs, the skincare company she co-founded, aimed at promoting wellness and responsible sourcing.

“We believe in the power of communities. Through our partnership with World Vision and Fairtrade, we can create a space where people not only benefit from ethical sourcing but where their work and culture are uplifted on a global stage. We are committed to supporting the incredible women who are the backbone of agricultural production in this region.” Elba said during her visit.

In Gbumgbum Yemo, Sabrina observed traditional shea butter production, a time-intensive process carried out largely by women. Sabrina engaged with the women involved in the process, learning about their challenges and, at the same time, ways to preserve the indigenous method of shea production.

In nearby Malishegu, she met with cooperatives benefiting from Fairtrade certification, which ensures producers receive fair compensation and reinvest in their communities.

“Fairtrade is not just about profit. It’s about ensuring dignity, fairness, and sustainable livelihoods for the people who grow the ingredients we all love to use. By supporting ethical sourcing, we help create opportunities that lead to lasting change,” said Sabrina.

She also visited Bugulung, where mechanized shea processing is improving productivity and income for local women. World Vision, active in Ghana for 45 years, has played a key role in providing the necessary training and equipment to support these transitions.

The partnership between S’ABLE Labs and World Vision focuses not only on sustainable product development but also on raising awareness about the importance of supporting fair trade practices. “Sabrina’s advocacy aligns with World Vision’s mission to tackle poverty at its root. Together, we’re helping create systems that value both people and the planet,” a spokesperson for the organization. “

As Sabrina concluded her trip, she called for greater accountability in sourcing and consumption. “Ethical sourcing is not a trend; it’s a responsibility we all share. Through partnerships like this, we can create a more sustainable, just, and inclusive world.”

This collaboration underscores the power of community-led solutions and highlights the role of ethical business practices in creating a more sustainable future. Through such initiatives, the potential for positive global impact is limitless.

Finance ministers to face censure for breaching rules under amended PFM Act

0

Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson

Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that under the amended Public Financial Management (PFM) Act, 2025, any finance minister who violates fiscal rules will face censure.

Furthermore, ministers and heads of covered state entities could face imprisonment if found responsible for fiscal slippages.

According to the Finance Ministry, these measures are part of broader reforms aimed at ensuring strict adherence to fiscal discipline and promoting sustainable economic management.

Key fiscal reforms

The PFM Act, 2025 introduces two major fiscal rules to strengthen financial governance:

1. Non-interest spending must be less than revenue

• The government must ensure that non-interest expenditure does not exceed revenue.

• At least 1.5% of GDP must remain as extra revenue after covering all expenditures, excluding interest payments.

• This ensures that even after settling operational expenses, a fiscal surplus remains to support economic stability.

2. Debt limit to prevent unsustainable borrowing

• A cap will be placed on the country’s total debt accumulation.

• By 2034, Ghana’s total debt must not exceed 45% of GDP to maintain financial stability.

This restriction aims to prevent excessive borrowing and ensure the country remains capable of servicing its debt without placing undue pressure on public finances.

Additionally, the Minister of Finance must obtain Parliamentary or Cabinet approval before suspending fiscal rules in the event of force majeure or economic shocks.

These reforms represent a significant step toward fiscal consolidation and are expected to bolster investor confidence while ensuring long-term economic sustainability.

The Public Financial Management (PFM) Act is a law enacted to regulate financial management in the public sector within a macroeconomic and fiscal framework. It defines the responsibilities of stakeholders, and provides for the accounting and auditing of public funds, as well as related matters.

Elegant Dresses for Women: A Timeless Style Choice

0

Elegant dresses for women are timeless wardrobe staples that embody sophistication and grace. Whether for a formal event, a gala, or a special dinner, the right dress can elevate a woman’s appearance and leave a lasting impression. Elegance in a dress is often characterized by its simplicity, refinement, and attention to detail, rather than by extravagant designs or embellishments.

One of the most iconic styles of elegant dresses is the little black dress (LBD). Originally popularized by Coco Chanel in the 1920s, this dress remains a symbol of understated elegance. The LBD’s versatility allows it to transition from day to night, making it a must-have in every woman’s closet. Paired with heels and minimal accessories, it exudes sophistication and grace.

For more formal occasions, evening gowns are the epitome of elegance. These long, flowing dresses often feature luxurious fabrics such as silk, satin, or velvet, which create a rich and glamorous look. Evening gowns can be simple or adorned with subtle embellishments like lace, sequins, or beads, but they always prioritize a refined and timeless aesthetic. Classic colors like navy, black, and emerald green are popular choices for evening wear, as they exude both elegance and versatility.

Another popular choice for elegant occasions is the A-line dress, which flatters a wide range of body types. This silhouette, which cinches at the waist and gently flares out, creates a graceful and feminine appearance. When paired with a delicate pair of earrings or a statement clutch, an A-line dress can be the perfect choice for a wedding or a cocktail party.

Lastly, wrap dresses are another excellent option for women who want to exude sophistication while remaining comfortable. With their ability to accentuate curves while providing support, wrap dresses are perfect for both professional and social settings.

In conclusion, elegant dresses for women come in many styles, cuts, and fabrics, but their defining feature is a refined and polished look that never goes out of style. By choosing the right dress for the occasion, any woman can showcase her personal style while embodying the timeless beauty of elegance.

“During my time as a Fulbright Specialist at HTU, I saw the immense potential for collaboration. We are thrilled to see this vision come to life, fostering student exchanges, faculty collaborations, and global learning experiences.”

The Vice-Chancellor of HTU, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, welcomed the delegation and emphasized the university’s commitment to attracting U.S. students, particularly those of African descent interested in pursuing bachelor’s degree programmes in Ghana.

“HTU offers a unique opportunity for students from the African diaspora seeking an immersive Ghanaian education while benefiting from our globally competitive programmes,” he said.

Prof. Honyenuga also noted that HTU’s wide range of programmes aligns with those of U.S. community colleges, creating a strong foundation for cooperation in skills training, joint research, and faculty development.

He stressed that the partnerships will promote economic mobility, workforce development, and deeper cultural exchanges.

The visiting U.S. community college leaders expressed enthusiasm for potential collaborations, recognizing the mutual benefits of fostering international engagement.

Dr. Shanna Jackson stated, “We share similar missions, and this visit confirms the alignment of our programmes and institutional goals.”

Dr. Larry Anthony Wise Jr. underscored the opportunities in student exchange programmes, virtual learning initiatives, and faculty training, noting, “This is an opportunity to create meaningful, long-term engagement between our institutions.”

For Dr. Michael Boyd, the visit was particularly meaningful, marking his first experience on the African continent. “I feel very encouraged about the potential partnerships we can build here. The experience has been incredibly inspiring,” he remarked.

This initiative marks a major step toward strengthening U.S.-Africa academic ties, with HTU and the visiting community colleges now poised to develop formal agreements that will expand student mobility, faculty exchanges, and collaborative research opportunities.

‘Osofo Moko’ – Kwakye Ofosu, Ntim Fordjour spar on social media over drug trafficking saga

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour (L) and Felix Kwakye Ofosu Rev. John Ntim Fordjour (L) and Felix Kwakye Ofosu

The spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, took shots at each other on social media on Saturday, April 5, 2025, over the former’s allegations of money laundering and the smuggling of cocaine into the country.

In a post shared on X, Kwakye Ofosu, who is also the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, took aim at Rev. Ntim Fordjour, describing him as “Osofo Moko” and a “clown.”

“Osofo Moko” is an Akan phrase used to describe undeserving men of God.

“Osofo Moko @NtimFordjour. What a clown!” the minister wrote.

In a swift response, Rev Ntim Fordjour, a former Deputy Minister of Education under the Akufo-Addo government, said that the presidential spokesperson had resorted to insults because he was on the wrong side of the issue.

He indicated that Kwakye Ofosu was acting this way because cocaine and money laundering activities under the current government had been exposed.

“When cocaine and money laundering activities are exposed and questioned, you expose your emotional connections to these transnational crimes, shield cocaine cartels and money launderers from prosecution, and resort to insults!

“My good friend @FelixKwakyeOfo1, I can appreciate your frustration!” the former deputy minister wrote.

Background:

The MP for Assin South and the Minority’s Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee claimed at a press conference on April 1, 2025, that two flights, an air ambulance and a private jet, might have been involved in drug trafficking or money laundering.

He alleged that one of the aircraft, Air MED flight L823 AM, landed in Ghana on March 20 and stayed for five days without any record of transporting a patient.

These allegations led President John Mahama to order security agencies to “immediately and fully collaborate with the honourable Member of Parliament so he provides all necessary information to investigate the allegations and take all action necessary to expose any drug dealing.”

President Mahama also directed all security agencies to work with Rev. Ntim Fordjour to investigate the drug trafficking and money laundering claims involving the two suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

He emphasised that Ghana has a zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking and will not allow the country to be used as a transit or final destination for illicit drugs.

As a result, all security agencies must act urgently to address the issue.

Informal economy dominates as 70% of businesses earn below GHS10K annually – Report

0

About 70 percent of businesses in Ghana generate less than GHS10,000 annually, with just 0.01 percent earning over GHS1 million, according to the latest Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES) released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

The report reveals both significant growth in the number of businesses and persistent structural challenges in the economy.

It shows that Ghana’s business landscape remains overwhelmingly informal, with 92.3 percent of enterprises operating outside the formal sector.

The number of business establishments has more than tripled over the past decade, increasing from 640,000 in 2014 to 1.87 million in 2024. However, employment growth has not kept pace, with the workforce rising modestly from 3.28 million to 6.90 million over the same period.

According to the report, the economy is dominated by micro-sized enterprises—typically employing between one and five people. Micro enterprises now account for a staggering 90.4 percent of all businesses, up from just 16.6 percent in 2014.

Sector-wise, the services industry continues to lead, comprising 76.7 percent of all businesses, although its share has declined slightly over the decade. The industrial sector follows with 21.1 percent, while agriculture accounts for just 2.2 percent.

Commenting on the findings, tax analyst Francis Timore Boi called on the government to implement a comprehensive strategy to improve revenue mobilisation from the informal sector.

“So for me, I think we need a clear and holistic approach—a very simplified approach—to see how we can tax the informal sector,” he said. “Identifying 2 million taxpayers in the informal sector may not be enough. After identification, what next? How do we assess their income?”, Timore Boi noted.

He proposed exploring simplified systems such as the vehicle income tax model used for commercial drivers, though he noted even that system does not cover all.

Rev Ntim Fordjour Angrily Walks Out On Newsfile Show Over Cocaine Allegation Reactions

News Hub Creator1h

Rev John Ntim Fordjour, a Member of Parliament and a key member of the Defence and Interior Committee, walked out of the Joy News Newsfile show after receiving heavy criticism from viewers during a live discussion on the recent cocaine allegations at Kotoka International Airport.

The Newsfile program on Saturday, 6th April, 2025, hosted by Samson Lardy Anyenini, featured a panel that included Rev Ntim Fordjour, NDC National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi, and other experts. They were discussing Rev Fordjour’s earlier claims that two suspicious flights had landed at the Kotoka International Airport and could be linked to drug trafficking and money laundering.

During the show, Rev Fordjour stood by his statements and called for deeper investigations. He said his comments were meant to protect Ghana’s international image and ensure that the country does not become a safe haven for drug traffickers. However, Sammy Gyamfi and others on the panel challenged him, demanding solid evidence to back his claims.

The situation got more tense when it was time for the host to read out messages from viewers. Almost all the messages criticized Rev Ntim Fordjour for making what many believed were unproven and damaging statements. Viewers accused him of making Ghana look bad without presenting facts. Some even suggested that he was playing politics with a sensitive national security issue.

Looking visibly upset by the negative feedback, Rev Ntim Fordjour responded briefly but angrily. He said he would not sit in a studio where public opinion was being used to silence his truth. Moments later, he took off his microphone and walked out of the live TV studio.

Suspicious flights: Ntim Fordjour’s claims reckless, unnecessary

0

Sanarigu Member of Parliament (MP), Issah Atta, has criticised the ranking member on the defence and interior committee of parliament Rev John Ntim Fordjour for his comments regarding some flights at the Kotoka International Airport, describing them as reckless and unnecessary.

Speaking on Channel One TV‘s The Big Issue on Saturday April 5, he noted that “There was nothing about this. He just wasted everybody’s time,” dismissing the claims as baseless.

He emphasised that flights land in Ghana regularly, and oversight responsibilities should not be accompanied by actions that incite fear or tarnish the government’s image.

Atta further stated, “If you are performing your oversight responsibilities, it doesn’t mean you should add recklessness, causing fear, anxiety, and tarnishing the image of the government.”

He labeled Fordjour’s statement as irresponsible and counterproductive.

What stops government from disclosing aircraft details to Fordjour? – Kofi Bentil asks

Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil

The Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has called on the government to provide clarity on allegations made by the Ranking Member of Parliament on the Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, regarding alleged drug trafficking in the country.

Bentil believes that although the MP is basing his claims on suspicion, it would be in the nation’s best interest for both Minority and Majority Members of Parliament to collaborate and investigate the allegations fairly.

He argued that the government should furnish Rev Fordjour and the public with details concerning the movement of the accused aircraft to bring clarity to the matter.

“This is a national issue; I’m not saying he acted wrongly. What I’m advocating for is a nationalistic approach to the situation. He claims to have suspicions and credible evidence, let’s investigate. If there’s information that proves otherwise, then we can dismiss the claims. I rely on facts from the state.”

“But I am concerned because the system itself is being accused. That’s why I suggested that if our environment wasn’t so polarised along partisan lines, we could include the Minority side of Parliament and allow security agencies to carry out the investigation. Aircraft movement records are historical and detailed. Let’s disclose the data to satisfy all parties and ensure transparency,” he said while speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Earlier, the Assin South MP demanded a security briefing regarding two aircraft, AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B, which he alleged carried cocaine and cash into the country.

This prompted President John Dramani Mahama to order a probe into the matter.

Dr. Rashid Pelpuo and Malik Basintale Dr. Rashid Pelpuo and Malik Basintale

The Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment (MLJE), in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has inaugurated the Inter-Ministerial Steering and Technical Committees to oversee the implementation of the government’s new Work Abroad Programme.

The event, held yesterday at the MLJE conference room, brought together representatives from key state institutions and international organisations who will serve on the two committees.

In her welcome remarks, the Acting Chief Director of the Ministry, Madam Gloria Bortele Noi, extended appreciation to all participants for their commitment to supporting the programme.

The Chief Executive Officer of YEA, Malik Basintale, provided an overview of the initiative, emphasizing that the programme is designed to create opportunities for skilled Ghanaian youth to gain international employment—contrary to common public misconceptions.

He highlighted the importance of building a pool of well-trained individuals ready to take up these roles.

The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling youth unemployment through strategic international partnerships.

He noted that the Work Abroad Programme, jointly led by MLJE and YEA, aims to facilitate temporary, seasonal, contract, and permanent employment for Ghanaian youth in partner countries.

Dr. Pelpuo outlined the programme’s objectives, which include promoting safe and orderly migration, enhancing youth employability, addressing unemployment, supporting national economic growth, and ensuring the sustainable reintegration of returnees.

He added that the initiative is intended to create a “win-win” situation for Ghanaian youth, the national economy, and international labour markets.

Importantly, during his address, the Minister officially announced the cancellation of the migration of domestic workers, citing the need to protect vulnerable groups from exploitation and to align Ghana’s labour migration strategy with international standards.

This marks a significant policy shift, prioritizing skilled and semi-skilled employment opportunities abroad.

The Minister also announced the composition of the newly formed committees and elaborated on their roles in ensuring the successful rollout of the initiative.

The YEA will serve as the programme’s secretariat and play a key operational role.

In officially inaugurating the committees, Dr. Pelpuo thanked members for their willingness to serve and wished them success in their work ahead.

The Work Abroad Programme is one of the government’s key interventions aimed at addressing youth unemployment through global partnerships and job creation.

‘Missing’ ECG containers at Tema Port were moved legitimately

0

Security consultant Richard Kumadoe has suggested that some 1300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) missing at the Tema Port were moved through legitimate channels.

Explaining the procedural integrity at the port on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, April 5, Kumadoe remarked, “If you are aware of the way the port operates, there is no way anybody could walk there and go with a container.”

He emphasised that the parties involved, whether individuals or groups of companies, acted within the framework of legitimate access, even if their actions might raise concerns of legality.

“From an investigation point of view, these were individuals or groups of companies who acted legitimately, even though what they were involved in might be criminal.

“But they acted legitimately on behalf of ECG or whoever was given instructions, and it was based on that the port authorities granted them access to the containers,” Kumadoe clarified.

Dismissing suggestions that the containers could have been removed without authorisation, he insisted, “If anybody tells you [that] you can walk in there and move ECG containers, then the port security will not legitimate it. It is not right; it is not true.”

Kumadoe further highlighted that a standard procedure exists for moving containers from the port, and that this process was followed in this instance.

He pointed out that someone familiar with the procedure had knowledge of how these containers were moved, explaining their current absence from the port.

“There is a standard procedure by which ECG containers have been moved from the port and somebody is aware of that procedure and they followed same and that is how come these containers are out of there,” Kumadoe said.

Punish persons culpable in missing ECG containers saga – Theo Acheampong

0

Economist and Political Risk Analyst, Dr. Theo Acheampong, has called for the prosecution of those found responsible for the disappearance of containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) from the Tema Port.

This call comes after it was revealed that ECG had claimed to have 2,491 uncleared containers filled with vital cables and equipment necessary for the country’s energy infrastructure.

However, an independent audit conducted at the port discovered a significant discrepancy—only 1,134 containers were found, leaving 1,357 containers unaccounted for.

The financial value of the missing items is staggering, and the public is eager for answers as to how such a large quantity of crucial materials could simply disappear without being noticed.

Dr. Theo Acheampong, speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, underscored the importance of thoroughly investigating the situation and holding accountable those responsible for the missing containers.

“I think we have to get to the bottom of the matter and I am all for criminal prosecution if people are found to have done things that go against the laws of the country. The report is shocking and it is absolutely shocking.”

Adding another layer of complexity to the matter, the former Managing Director of ECG, Samuel Dubik Mahama, claimed that he was not consulted by the investigative committee that looked into the missing containers.

However, Dr. Acheampong emphasized that while it would have been ideal for the committee to consult Mahama and hear his side of the story, it should not affect the accountability of those responsible for the missing containers.

“Maybe the investigative committee should have consulted the former ECG boss to hear his side of the story but at the end of the day, the ECG is also an institution and there are paperwork and employers that I believe the committee consulted.”

Unilever Ghana launches affordable ‘Comfort’ sachet fabric conditioner

0

Unilever Ghana has unveiled a game-changer in home-care with the launch of its new ‘Comfort’ fabric conditioner, now available in sachet form.

Known for delivering top-quality household products, Unilever is stepping up its commitment to affordability and everyday convenience with a product designed to keep clothes smelling fresh for up to 100 hours.

‘Comfort’ is meant for use on all kinds of fabrics after washing and rinsing, and it offers a scent that lingers for nearly five days. This fabric conditioner isn’t just about fragrance, it also softens and protects your clothes, making laundry day a more refreshing experience.

Category Manager for HomeCare at Unilever Ghana, Theodora Kasu Owusu, explained that although ‘Comfort’ has been available in bottles, it has not always been accessible to the average Ghanaian due to its price point.

She stressed that people already use ‘Comfort’ fabric conditioner, but it comes in bottles and is not affordable to everyone.

The new GH₵2 sachet fabric conditioner offers the same quality in a more accessible size and price, making it available to a wider range of consumers. The sachet comes in two captivating fragrances, Blue Ultra and Royal Magic.

“One key motivation behind launching Comfort in sachet form is that everyone deserves to smell good,” Theodora added.

She also emphasised the multi-functional benefits of the product.

“Comfort has a special property that enables it to preserve the quality of your clothes. In this instance, it’s giving you more value for money. Some clothes fade or weaken after washing, but with Comfort, you can wash multiple times and the fabric will remain the same,” she said.

The product is also easily accessible, as Theodora noted it’s available at local shops, supermarkets, and hypermarkets across the country.

Brand Manager for Comfort at Unilever Ghana, Senam Arthur Yartel, highlighted what sets the product apart in an already competitive market.

“The Comfort sachet makes your clothes smell really good for 100 hours, even after the 100 hours, you can still perceive the scent on your clothes,” she said.

“It’s not only a fragrance, it’s a softener too. It gives your clothes that nice texture they should have. This Comfort sachet doesn’t just wet your clothes. It revives the quality of the fabric and gives it the best look it should have”.

With this sachet launch, Unilever Ghana is proving that a premium level of freshness doesn’t have to come at a luxury price.

The GH₵2 Comfort fabric conditioner now brings fragrance, softness, and long-lasting fabric care into every home whether in urban cities or rural towns.

Ashanti Regional Police Command probe shooting incident at Adventist SHS

0

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation following a shooting incident at the Adventist Senior High School, Kumasi, on Friday, April 4, 2025, around 12:00 pm.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 16-year-old second-year student, whose identity is being withheld, brought a locally manufactured pistol loaded with one BB ammunition to the school.

The student reportedly attempted to display the firearm to a classmate when it accidentally discharged, injuring another student. The names of those involved remain confidential.

The injured student received treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is currently in stable condition. Meanwhile, the juvenile suspect has been taken into police custody, and the empty cartridge has been recovered as evidence.

During questioning, the suspect revealed that the firearm was taken from his father’s bedroom without his father’s consent. Authorities are now working to locate and arrest the father to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Godwin Ahianyo, who serves as the Public Affairs Officer for the Ashanti Regional Police, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on April 5, 2025. The police have reassured the public of their commitment to thoroughly investigating the matter.

Bank of Ghana engages GUTA on monetary policy, business concerns

0

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) on Friday April 5, 2025 held a high-level meeting with the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) at the Bank Square to discuss issues of mutual interest, particularly the impact of recent monetary policy decisions on the business community.

The engagement forms part of the Bank’s broader post-Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) stakeholder consultations aimed at fostering transparency and strengthening collaboration with key economic actors.

During the meeting, the central bank acknowledged growing concerns among traders over rising borrowing costs and the broader implications of monetary policy decisions on business operations and economic activity.

In a presentation to GUTA executives, the BoG explained that inflationary pressures, both domestic and external, had necessitated a more proactive monetary policy stance.

This, the Bank noted, is crucial to anchoring inflation expectations and safeguarding the purchasing power of businesses and households.

The recent policy rate adjustments, the Bank emphasised, were based on rigorous economic analysis, taking into account factors such as inflation trends, exchange rate volatility, and global financial market conditions.

While acknowledging that higher interest rates could pose short-term challenges for businesses, the Bank underscored their importance in curbing inflation and preserving economic stability over the medium to long term.

The meeting also allowed both parties to exchange views on the evolving economic landscape and explore ways to enhance collaboration between the central bank and the business sector.

In a significant move toward transparency, the BoG announced that, for the first time since adopting the inflation-targeting monetary policy framework, the MPC had made public the voting decisions of its members.

The Bank said the initiative aligns with international best practices and aims to enhance public understanding of monetary policy decisions while building confidence in the policy-making process.

“Transparency in our decision-making fosters credibility, enabling businesses and investors to make informed decisions,” a BoG official stated.

Representing the Bank of Ghana were key officials including Dr. Philip Abradu-Otoo, Director of Research; Mr. Bernard Otabil, Director of Communications; Mr. Ismail Adam, Acting Head of the Banking Supervision Department; and Mr. Ernest Nii Sowah Ahulu, Officer-in-Charge of the Financial Markets Department.

GUTA was led by its President, Dr. Joseph Obeng, and supported by First Vice President Clement Boateng, Second Vice President Charles Gyan, and other senior executives.

2 minutes read

Ghana Athletics (GA) has announced the suspension with effect, coaches Wisdom Loh and Jeffrey Nkrumah over alleged abuse of athletes.

The two have also been barred from representing the GA in any capacity at any athletics-related both in Ghana or at the International level.

In a statement released by the GA, it said the decision is in reaction to allegations of sexual abuse, including an abuse of minors, which is a criminal offence and strongly frowned upon by World Athletics and the Confederation of African Athletics.

The suspension is to enable the GA investigate the allegations and get to the bottom of the issue which the GA describes as “shocking and embarrassing.”

Investigation

In launching the investigation, the GA said the action is in line with the robust principles outlined in the World Athletics Safeguarding Policy which emphasises the protection of athletes from exploitation, abuse and coercion.

It said one of the cases borders on criminality and has thus, referred it to World Athletics for advise.

“Ghana Athletics is launching a comprehensive investigation into allegations of abuse of athletes, including sexual abuse of minors which is a criminal offence under the laws of Ghana, by some local coaches and so-called managers.

“Indeed, one of such case is being referred by the GA to World Athletics for the necessary guidance.

“These alleged Safeguarding violations represent a breach of both national and international laws and standards, as well as the human rights of the affected athletes and are therefore, bring thoroughly investigated,” the statement explained.

Politicised institutions to blame for Ghana’s economic woes – Dr. Forkuo Kwarteng

0

A senior lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Solomon Forkuo Kwarteng, has attributed Ghana’s ongoing economic challenges to the proliferation of politically infested institutions.

According to Dr. Kwarteng, key institutions that should be driven by professionalism and expertise are instead dominated by political appointees, who prioritize wealth accumulation for political gain over efficiency and effectiveness.

His comments came in response to the National Disaster Management Organization’s (NADMO) recent donation of food items to victims of the devastating fire at Kumasi’s Adum Blue Light Arena.

The affected traders rejected the aid, emphasizing that their immediate need was for the reconstruction of their shops rather than food supplies.

This incident has sparked public scrutiny of NADMO’s competency and decision-making processes.

The fire, which occurred on March 21, 2025, destroyed several shops, properties, and large sums of cash, leaving over 2,900 traders without a source of income.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Otec FM’s morning show “Nyansapo,” hosted by Isaac Osei Akoto on Friday, Dr. Kwarteng argued that “a competent NADMO would have conducted feasibility studies to understand the victims’ needs.”

He further alleged that successive governments have consistently appointed loyalists without the requisite qualifications to key positions, perpetuating inefficiency and corruption.

“Instead of appointing qualified and competent personnel, successive governments continue to place their own people, often unqualified, into various roles at NADMO, all in the name of amassing wealth to fund political campaigns and win elections,” he emphasised.

Despite elimination of USAID contracts . . . US commits to life-saving programmes in Ghana – Ambassador assures

0

The United States (US) government will maintain all the life-saving programmes under the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the US Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia E. Palmer, has stated.

The life-saving programmes include the infant and child mortality, maternal health, the malaria elimination, HIV/AIDS prevention and interventions, as well as the essential medicines and vaccines programmes.

Ms Palmer said although the support for those life-saving programmes would continue, many of them had been reviewed and changed.

Trump administration

Shortly after coming to power, the Trump administration announced the elimination of more than 90 per cent of USAID’s foreign aid contracts and $60 billion in overall US assistance around the world, putting numbers on its plans to eliminate the majority of US development and humanitarian help abroad.

In her first media engagement since the political transitions in the US and Ghana, Ambassador Palmer reaffirmed that Ghana’s longstanding relationship with America had secured its place as a vital partner.

“No matter what the change in language, how we express it, or the change in focus, Ghana is a really important partner of the United States and will continue to be so.

The United States is behind Ghana’s economic recovery through institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as well as American business interests,” she said.

Deeply-rooted relationship

The Ambassador further explained that the United States and Ghana had a deeply rooted relationship, founded on many fronts: historical and cultural ties, as well as bilateral trade relations, which currently amounted to approximately $3 billion.

Ms Palmer said Ghana had actually done better than many in a number of areas, especially, “your conflict resolution structures are stronger as a result of hard work, and this has enabled you to move to another phase of partnership with the United States”.

She, however, said the US had not continued with a lot of the economic growth programmes, but had a lot of programmes to spur agricultural growth and would be able to maintain the cash transfer programmes to the people that were affected by the drought in the north.

“But some of the programmes to stimulate more agricultural change, they’ve had to terminate and I feel sad about that,” Ms Palmer admitted.

Ghana’s budget

Ambassador Palmer stressed that the US was not leaving a big hole in Ghana’s budget because most of the assistance they provided, of about 95 per cent, was to civil society organisations (CSOs) rather than the government.

“The US and Ghana have a very warm, close relationship that is founded on four pillars, historical and cultural ties, trade and investment, goods and services — gold coming from here, gas coming from here and we have automobiles and pharmaceuticals coming from the United States, and cooperation in key industries,” Ms Palmer stated.

“So, it is something that builds prosperity in all the countries. It is all to say that no matter the changes in language and no matter the change in focus, Ghana remains an important part of the United States, and will continue to be so,” she added.

New tariffs

Ms Palmer downplayed concerns over the future of US-Ghana trade relations following the 10 per cent baseline tax on imports from Ghana, as part of their ambitious and controversial set of tariffs on imports from around the world into the US.

Speaking from the Rose Garden, President Trump defended the tariffs as part of a national economic emergency, arguing that they were necessary to protect domestic manufacturing and counter decades of what he described as “unfair economic practices”.

In spite of growing concerns, Ambassador Palmer reassured Ghanaians about the resilience of the US-Ghana trade relationship, which currently exceeded $3 billion in bilateral trade and investment.

She expressed confidence that Ghana’s key exports, such as gold and gas, would remain vital to global trade and would not be significantly affected by US policy shifts.

“So, it is something that builds prosperity in all the countries.

It is all to say that no matter the changes in language and no matter the change in focus, Ghana remains an important part of the United States, and will continue to be so,” Ms Palmer stated.

E-Levy was unpopular tax – Law lecturer

The Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) was introduced by the New Patriotic Party The Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) was introduced by the New Patriotic Party

A senior lecturer at the UPSA Law School and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication team, Ishaq Ibrahim Esq., has described the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) introduced by the previous Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government as an unpopular decision.

According to him, the levy was not even supported by some members of the party.

The comment comes after the Ghana Revenue Authority announced the abolition of the controversial 1% Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), effective midnight, April 2, 2025.

The abolition follows the president’s assent to the Electronic Transfer Levy Act, 2022 (Act 1075) and its Amendment Act, 2022 (Act 1089).

Financial institutions and payment platforms have been instructed to cease applying the levy and process refunds for any deductions made beyond the abolition date. Entities that fail to comply will face sanctions.

During a panel discussion on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Ibrahim Esq. noted that the E-Levy was introduced due to difficult economic circumstances.

However, he acknowledged that, in hindsight, it was a wrong decision.

While welcoming the repeal, the NPP communicator stressed that this change should not be credited to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said, “E-levy was an unpopular task, even within the NPP. There was no need for this task because production had not taken place. It’s when production takes place that you can say that let me also have a share of it as a legitimate government. But having said that, Ghanaians will understand that we were in a difficult situation and when you are in a difficult situation, sometimes you take measures that after a second look, you realise that it was a wrong decision.

“It was this reason why when the former Vice President had the opportunity to become the flagbearer, he said the first thing he would do was to remove this particular task…Whilst we welcome it, this is not a change that we have to congratulate the NDC for,” he added.

The Ghana Premier League match week 26 fixture between Accra Hearts of Oak and Medeama SC will now be played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

This follows a security briefing with key stakeholders on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Earlier in the week, the National Sports Authority (NSA) had withheld clearance for Hearts of Oak to use the stadium.

This led to the club being denied access for their match week 21 fixture, which was instead played at the Tuba Astro Turf against Nations FC, with the Phobians losing 1-0.

With the security assessment now completed and clearance granted, Hearts of Oak will return to their traditional home ground. They will face Medeama SC in a crucial match as they seek a first win in five games.

The match is important for both teams as they continue their push for a strong finish in the league.

Fans of Hearts of Oak will be excited to see their team back at the Accra Sports Stadium for the first time in over six months.

News coming in inidcates that Adwenepahene, a social media personality known for his strong criticism of the Asante Kingdom and its people, has died at the age of 38. The man behind the Adwenepa TV platform, popularly known as “Adwenepahene,” is said to have passed away in a hospital in Germany.

Reports online claim that an audio recording is circulating, explaining how he died in the hospital. Although the details are not confirmed yet, many people are reacting with shock and disbelief. Some social media users have shared the audio, hoping that the news is not true.

Adwenepahene became well known on social media for constantly attacking Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and the Asante people in general. He referred to the Asantehene as “small boy” and used harsh words that many Ghanaians, especially those from the Ashanti Region, found offensive. His videos often caused anger and debates online, with many calling for him to be reported or blocked.

Now, the same people he offended are the ones reacting to the news of his death. While some have expressed sympathy and wished him a peaceful rest, others say his passing is a warning to people who use social media to insult respected leaders and tribes.

As of now, no official statement has been made by his family or any hospital in Germany to confirm the news. Many people are still waiting for clear information before accepting the news as true. May he rest in peace, if the reports are indeed true.

Paul Adom-Otchere Raises Alarm Over Alleged Financial Incentives to Sway NDC MPs’ Support

0

According to Ghana Web report, Media personality and political commentator Paul Adom-Otchere has raised serious concerns regarding alleged financial incentives provided to Members of Parliament (MPs) from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to secure their support for government policies. The reports, which surfaced through Ghana Web, suggest that these arrangements are designed to appease disgruntled MPs who feel sidelined after being overlooked for key government positions.

Adom-Otchere referenced the recent approval by Parliament of a GH¢250,000 allocation for each MP to fund education-related projects, alongside an additional GH¢150,000 earmarked for monitoring these projects. He pointed out that these allocations appeared to be part of an effort to placate MPs from the NDC who had not been appointed to ministerial or deputy ministerial roles, thus leaving them without executive influence.

There’s concern from the 188 NDC MPs who did not secure ministerial positions… they do not have any executive authority, and they feel pressure from their constituents,” Adom-Otchere explained, suggesting that this lack of high-profile appointments is causing discontent within the party ranks.

The media personality went on to claim that some of these MPs fear their absence from key government roles could diminish their chances in the upcoming 2028 party primaries, which has led to dissatisfaction and unrest within the NDC. Adom-Otchere alleged that to manage this discontent, the Ministry of Finance has offered a quarterly payment of GH¢400,000 to these MPs to ensure their support for the government’s legislative agenda.

This payment is supposedly aimed at ensuring support for bills, with the NDC reportedly telling MPs to vote in favor of government business,” Adom-Otchere said, raising the possibility of financial arrangements being used to secure votes. While he expressed hope that the claims are untrue, Adom-Otchere cautioned that if these reports were accurate, it could signal deeper issues within the NDC parliamentary group.

The allegations, if true, could paint a troubling picture of the political climate in Ghana, where financial incentives may be seen as a means to influence lawmakers’ decisions. The claims have yet to be verified, but they have already sparked a wider conversation about the potential for corruption and the ethical implications of such arrangements in Ghana’s political landscape.

As the story continues to develop, many are watching closely to see how the NDC will respond to these claims and whether any further revelations will emerge about the inner workings of the party.

One person has reportedly lost her life, and two others sustained serious injuries following violent protests by some youth in Zabzugu, located in the Northern Region.

The unrest was sparked by opposition to the President’s nomination of Municipal and District Chief Executives.

The protesting youth expressed their disapproval of the nomination of Daniel Lakob Tanei. In response, they blocked roads and issued threats to destroy party properties and other government institutions.

Security personnel quickly intervened, but the situation escalated when the youth regrouped on the outskirts of the town, firing gunshots and harassing passersby.

During the chaos, a man riding a motorbike with two women — one of whom was seven to eight months pregnant — was stopped by the youth. When he refused to comply, they opened fire, killing the pregnant woman and injuring both the rider and the other woman.

The body of the deceased has been transported to the Yendi Hospital morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at the Zabzugu Hospital.

Tensions remain high in the area, and security forces are on high alert to prevent further violence or possible reprisals.
